- 0:00Speaker 1: Come on.
- 0:00Speaker 2: Do your thing, Big Daddy. I said, uh-huh. I sure will.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Good morning, everybody. You all listening to The Voice. Come on,
- 0:09Speaker 1: dig me now. One and only, Steve Harvey. Got a
- 0:12Speaker 1: radio show. I feel it's necessary to explain what I
- 0:15Speaker 1: say in the morning because somebody asked me, what do
- 0:18Speaker 1: you mean by that when you say that in the morning?
- 0:21Speaker 1: When I say, uh-huh, it's in response to David Hollister
- 0:26Speaker 1: opening the song by saying, go ahead, Big Daddy.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Go ahead.
- 0:30Speaker 1: I said, uh-huh, I sure will. Then I say, good morning, everybody,
- 0:35Speaker 1: because I was raised that way. You're supposed to speak
- 0:37Speaker 1: when you come in the room. I'm coming in y'all's room,
- 0:41Speaker 1: whether it's your bedroom, the room in your house, your car,
- 0:45Speaker 1: your office, you know, wherever you're at. I come in
- 0:47Speaker 1: the room, I got to speak. So I say, good morning, everybody.
- 0:51Speaker 1: You are listening to the voice. And then I got
- 0:54Speaker 1: to introduce myself because as a performer, I always felt
- 0:58Speaker 1: my best when I was introduced. Why would you walk
- 1:01Speaker 1: out on stage and nobody introduce you? You can't get
- 1:04Speaker 1: a round of applause. It's just, it's horrible. So I say,
- 1:07Speaker 1: you are listening to the voice. One and only Steve Harvey.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Come on, dig me now. Now that's old school. I
- 1:15Speaker 1: got that. But that's, I was, once again, dig me
- 1:18Speaker 1: now is I want you to feel what I'm about
- 1:21Speaker 1: to say. That's all I'm saying. That's not a bragging thing.
- 1:26Speaker 1: You know, Y'all listening to the voice, one and only
- 1:29Speaker 1: Steve Harvey. Come on, dig me now. I'm just asking
- 1:32Speaker 1: you to feel what I'm saying in the morning because
- 1:35Speaker 1: it's part of a promise that I made to God. See,
- 1:38Speaker 1: a long time ago, I told God if he allowed
- 1:41Speaker 1: me to make it, that when I got there, I
- 1:44Speaker 1: would tell everybody I know how I did it. And
- 1:48Speaker 1: I wasn't going to shortcut it or shade him on it.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I said, if you allow me to make it, if
- 1:53Speaker 1: you give me the strength, the courage, the wisdom, You
- 1:57Speaker 1: gave me a gift. If you let me apply it,
- 2:00Speaker 1: don't destroy myself in the process. Forgive me for my
- 2:04Speaker 1: sins along the way. Continue to hold and rock me
- 2:07Speaker 1: when I need it. When I make it, I promise you, Lord,
- 2:12Speaker 1: when I get there, I will tell everybody how I
- 2:15Speaker 1: made it. Well, this started back in L.A. when I
- 2:21Speaker 1: got on the radio and I was making it OK.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I was doing OK. But I had to keep my
- 2:28Speaker 1: promise to God. My promise was, if you allow me
- 2:31Speaker 1: to make it, I'll tell everybody how I got there.
- 2:36Speaker 1: I have to tell you that every day, because if
- 2:40Speaker 1: it was not for that grace and mercy, I wouldn't
- 2:43Speaker 1: even be here able to fulfill my promise because I've
- 2:46Speaker 1: done enough dirt in my life, man, to not be worthy.
- 2:51Speaker 1: He could have easily walked away from me a long
- 2:53Speaker 1: time ago. Because I had sure walked away from him. See,
- 2:58Speaker 1: and I didn't walk away from him once. I walked
- 3:01Speaker 1: away from him a bunch of times. But guess what?
- 3:05Speaker 2: He forgave me a bunch of times.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I'm a living example of hundreds of chances. His forgiveness
- 3:15Speaker 1: and his mercy is available for everybody. It's the only
- 3:19Speaker 1: reason I get on this show every day. It's the
- 3:21Speaker 1: only reason I have the blessings that's coming my way.
- 3:24Speaker 1: It's the only way that things that keep happening in
- 3:27Speaker 1: my life, man, that I have no explanation for. It's
- 3:32Speaker 1: because of his grace and mercy. See, anytime something good
- 3:36Speaker 1: happens in my life and I can't explain it, that's
- 3:39Speaker 1: usually him. He exhibits to me. Remember, I'm a forgiving God, man.
- 3:46Speaker 2: Remember. So when you fall, Steve, don't lay down there.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Don't you lay down there.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Don't you let the devil fool you that because you
- 3:53Speaker 1: did made some mistakes that you ain't that you can't
- 3:56Speaker 1: do it because everybody going to make them.
- 3:59Speaker 2: There's none perfect. No, not one. So get up. Keep moving.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Keep pushing. Step on.
- 4:06Speaker 1: What you laying there for? Your daddy didn't raise you
- 4:09Speaker 1: that way. Look, man, my father was just about manhood.
- 4:13Speaker 1: I'm going to just tell you. My daddy never had
- 4:15Speaker 1: a conversation with me about church. He beat me for
- 4:18Speaker 1: not going, but, you know, a couple times, but He
- 4:22Speaker 1: wasn't about that.
- 4:22Speaker 2: It wasn't his message. That was my mama's job.
- 4:25Speaker 1: My mama taught me about being saved, about loving the Lord,
- 4:28Speaker 1: about giving your life, about the teachings of Jesus Christ.
- 4:32Speaker 1: My mama was a Sunday school teacher. So I got
- 4:35Speaker 1: all of that from her. My old man ain't had
- 4:37Speaker 1: none of that for me. My old man talked to
- 4:39Speaker 1: me about one thing all day long, hardworking manhood. And
- 4:43Speaker 1: you're going to get that if you don't get nothing
- 4:44Speaker 1: else from me. He gave that to me. So I
- 4:47Speaker 1: got it. See, so my father used to say, excuse
- 4:51Speaker 1: my language, but you ain't going to sit there like
- 4:52Speaker 1: no little punk up in here. You ain't doing what
- 4:54Speaker 1: you finna do. You finna get up and go do
- 4:56Speaker 1: what you supposed to do. Now stop all that whining
- 4:59Speaker 1: like some little punk and go on and get to moving.
- 5:01Speaker 1: That's how my father talked to me. Now I'm just
- 5:02Speaker 1: telling you real. It worked for me, though. And before
- 5:06Speaker 1: you start emailing me, that had nothing to do with
- 5:08Speaker 1: homosexuality at all. It's just that was his term for
- 5:12Speaker 1: a man not acting like a man.
- 5:15Speaker 2: That's all it was.
- 5:16Speaker 1: It was not a gay reference at all. I want
- 5:18Speaker 1: you to understand that before you start emailing me. So
- 5:21Speaker 1: my daddy wasn't calling. That was not a sexual reference
- 5:23Speaker 1: for him. My father talked to us. That's what he meant.
- 5:26Speaker 1: I knew exactly what he meant. He couldn't have meant
- 5:28Speaker 1: nothing else. He didn't even know nothing about that. My
- 5:30Speaker 1: old man clueless when it comes to that right there.
- 5:34Speaker 1: When I was getting down and feeling bad about myself,
- 5:37Speaker 1: my old man, he.
- 5:38Speaker 2: Taught me this toughness, man. He gave me this grit,
- 5:41Speaker 2: this doggedness, this go to work and work hard.
- 5:44Speaker 1: That's why today when God does bless me with something,
- 5:47Speaker 1: he ain't got to worry about me not working hard.
- 5:51Speaker 1: Cause that's in me. And when I get tired, I
- 5:55Speaker 1: ask that same God for strength to keep on doing
- 5:58Speaker 1: so I can do the blessings he got for me.
- 6:01Speaker 1: So when you ask me, how are you going to
- 6:03Speaker 1: do all this, Steve Harvey?
- 6:04Speaker 2: I don't know. I ain't got to figure that out.
- 6:08Speaker 1: All I got to do is show up with the
- 6:10Speaker 1: same amount of faith I've been showing up with. God
- 6:12Speaker 1: handled the rest of it. See, y'all, let me tell
- 6:16Speaker 1: you something. I don't see how you do it.
- 6:18Speaker 2: I don't either. Can I get you? Hey, man, newsflash.
- 6:21Speaker 2: Let me hear.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I don't see how you doing all SD.
- 6:24Speaker 2: You doing this. You doing that. You know, can I
- 6:26Speaker 2: tell you something? I don't either.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I just wake up with the faith, man, and trusting
- 6:31Speaker 1: that if he going to bless me with it, he
- 6:33Speaker 1: must be going to show me a way how to
- 6:34Speaker 1: get it done.
- 6:35Speaker 2: See, I ain't tripping on that part.
- 6:37Speaker 1: See, once you take yourself out the how to business,
- 6:41Speaker 1: you can go on and get with it. But see,
- 6:44Speaker 1: if you're going to trip yourself out with the how to,
- 6:46Speaker 1: you can't think like God can think. You can't figure
- 6:48Speaker 1: like God can figure. So now you sitting up in
- 6:51Speaker 1: here going, Lord, I want this to happen for me.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Then I don't know how I'm going to.
- 6:55Speaker 2: Do all that. Well, guess what?
- 6:57Speaker 1: You in the way now. See, now you in the way.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Because see, God ain't ask you to figure out how to.
- 7:03Speaker 1: He said, ask and believe. Then he said, faith without
- 7:08Speaker 1: works is dead. That's my solution. That's the concoction that
- 7:13Speaker 1: I'm functioning on. All I got to do is accept
- 7:17Speaker 1: the blessing, keep the faith, be willing to work and believe.
- 7:22Speaker 1: God can do anything but fail. Why would God bring
- 7:26Speaker 1: me this far to leave me? Why would he bring
- 7:30Speaker 1: you this far to leave you? So why I get
- 7:35Speaker 1: up every morning? I have no choice. I gots to
- 7:39Speaker 1: get up in here and rap. When I'm running late, man,
- 7:41Speaker 1: I try to plow through here. Sometimes I don't make it, man.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I got to do a rerun. But I plow through here. Because, man, Steve,
- 7:47Speaker 1: you're going to run out of something to say. No,
- 7:49Speaker 1: I'm going to just keep thanking him. Now, you can't
- 7:51Speaker 1: run out of that, can you? Because you owe him that.
- 7:53Speaker 1: Matter of fact, when I get through talking, I really
- 7:56Speaker 1: ain't thanked him enough.
- 7:57Speaker 2: You're listening to the Steve Harvey Morning Show.
