- 0:00Speaker 1: And now Move the Sticks with Daniel, Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks.
- 0:07Speaker 2: What's up everybody?
- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome to move the Sticks on a recap Monday, Djay, Bucky,
- 0:12Speaker 1: Rhett with.
- 0:13Speaker 2: You, Buck.
- 0:14Speaker 1: Where's your location right now? By the way, because I
- 0:17Speaker 1: know what your house looks like, and I know what
- 0:18Speaker 1: you're set up in Jacksonville looks like, and that is neither.
- 0:22Speaker 3: I am in Philadelphia because the game was flex not
- 0:26Speaker 3: a Sunday night game, but it was moved up. But
- 0:28Speaker 3: I couldn't get it out, so I had to stay
- 0:30Speaker 3: the night, and so I'm leaving momentarily.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Are you in the airport right now?
- 0:36Speaker 4: I'm in Airport Maria.
- 0:38Speaker 1: Oh no, oh, that's that's where I stayed for I've stayed.
- 0:42Speaker 2: I've logged a lot of time in that airport. Airport.
- 0:45Speaker 1: A very nice lounge, by the way, I want to say,
- 0:48Speaker 1: it's up up top, it's not down below top. You
- 0:51Speaker 1: get a great lounge. Good spot. Rett, Good to see you, buddy.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Let's let's jump into the news here. I don't want
- 0:57Speaker 1: to talk about it. The who's anymore? They wont Yeah, yeah,
- 0:59Speaker 1: that's fine, all right, It's just not even fun anymore.
- 1:02Speaker 1: There's the news I want to get to before we
- 1:04Speaker 1: get to the games. Yeah, Dennis Allen, let go with
- 1:08Speaker 1: the Saints. They decide they've lost seven games in a
- 1:11Speaker 1: row and this isn't working, and this is a team
- 1:14Speaker 1: that has a whole host of issues. We can talk
- 1:16Speaker 1: about salary cap, we can talk about situation there at
- 1:18Speaker 1: the quarterback position. Buck a lot of different directions. You
- 1:21Speaker 1: can go here, but you lose to the Carolina Panthers
- 1:25Speaker 1: by one point. But a Carolina Panther team that is
- 1:28Speaker 1: very much in the rebuild mode and you're a veteran
- 1:32Speaker 1: team with a lot of financial commitments. I think that
- 1:34Speaker 1: was the final straw.
- 1:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it was the final story. It's interesting hearing.
- 1:38Speaker 3: The reports coming out of there about how Gaio Benson
- 1:41Speaker 3: had kind of been doing some research the last couple
- 1:44Speaker 3: of weeks, talking to players, talking to people around the building,
- 1:46Speaker 3: trying to figure out what was going on with the team,
- 1:49Speaker 3: and then it kind of culminates in the Saints losing
- 1:52Speaker 3: to the Panthers and then he's fired shortly thereafter. Obviously, look,
- 1:57Speaker 3: the Saints were bound to have a regression based on
- 2:00Speaker 3: the way that they were using the credit card, you know,
- 2:02Speaker 3: the way that they were using salary caps and pushing
- 2:05Speaker 3: everything down into the future.
- 2:06Speaker 4: They never really did a full reset. And look, some
- 2:10Speaker 4: of this.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Is Dennis Allen, some of this is their organizational philosophy,
- 2:13Speaker 3: but they never took the time after all of those
- 2:16Speaker 3: years of kind of gunning for a super Bowl in.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Drew Brees's twilight, they never did a reset.
- 2:21Speaker 3: They never fully restocked the cupboard with young players that
- 2:24Speaker 3: eventually became their blue chip players that led them out
- 2:27Speaker 3: of kind of that salary cap purgatory.
- 2:31Speaker 5: Boy, I just felt like this was flawed from the start,
- 2:34Speaker 5: Like I just don't know that I get it for
- 2:38Speaker 5: continuity's sake, and that maybe the timing of when Sean
- 2:41Speaker 5: Payton stepped away, that this just kind of made the
- 2:43Speaker 5: most sense at the time to try to get the
- 2:46Speaker 5: most out of this roster and out of, you know,
- 2:48Speaker 5: some of the progress that you had made, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 5: with the tail end of the Sean Payton era, and
- 2:53Speaker 5: to kind of keep that continuity.
- 2:55Speaker 6: But I just never.
- 2:57Speaker 5: Felt like this team played with that same type of
- 2:59Speaker 5: entner that you saw when Sean Payton was there, that
- 3:02Speaker 5: they played the same type of togetherness, the same type
- 3:05Speaker 5: of connectedness and inspiration you know, was there ever a
- 3:10Speaker 5: great command of this team and of this franchise from
- 3:13Speaker 5: Dennis Allen, and I get it. It's hard to step
- 3:15Speaker 5: in and replace a guy that is the most beloved
- 3:18Speaker 5: head coach in your franchise's history, and it brought your
- 3:22Speaker 5: TV the only Super Bowl in your franchise's history. And
- 3:26Speaker 5: I just felt like, you know, watching some of the
- 3:29Speaker 5: players right, watching some of the development of some of
- 3:31Speaker 5: the players, watching some of the fall off from some
- 3:33Speaker 5: of these players, probably more important to note. And then
- 3:36Speaker 5: that kind of the last straw watching Camp Jordan was
- 3:37Speaker 5: so frustrated, I even want to go into the locker
- 3:39Speaker 5: room at the end of the game. Was essentially walking
- 3:41Speaker 5: out of the stadium. I think, go be you know,
- 3:43Speaker 5: the most veteran guy on that team, like the guy
- 3:46Speaker 5: that's most synonymous with the Saints, Camp Jordan. I couldn't
- 3:49Speaker 5: even bear it at the end of that game against
- 3:51Speaker 5: the Carolina Panthers. So certainly understand where the Saints felt
- 3:55Speaker 5: like they had to make a move, But like when
- 3:56Speaker 5: you look at the Saints at the bottom of the
- 3:58Speaker 5: NFC and you look at the top of the NFC
- 4:01Speaker 5: with the Detroit Lions, I don't know that you could
- 4:05Speaker 5: have a bigger gap or be on more opposite sides
- 4:09Speaker 5: of the spectrum in terms of connectedness with team, with
- 4:12Speaker 5: players and with head coach, right, And I think that
- 4:16Speaker 5: kind of puts it in perspective a little bit, considering
- 4:18Speaker 5: where the Lions came from and considering where the Saints
- 4:21Speaker 5: came from. And I just just don't feel like there
- 4:24Speaker 5: was there was enough juice with this team over the
- 4:26Speaker 5: last couple of years, and the move had to be made.
- 4:31Speaker 1: So rhtt you know this team very well, haven't grown
- 4:34Speaker 1: up there, I want to say, And Campbell spent some
- 4:38Speaker 1: time in New Orleans. I want to say, by the
- 4:41Speaker 1: name Aaron Glenn, who's with dand Campbell and Detroit pretty
- 4:45Speaker 1: well thought of, pretty well beloved. And I'll swing this
- 4:49Speaker 1: over to Buck on this. If we're if we're looking
- 4:51Speaker 1: forward and looking at what this is going to be,
- 4:53Speaker 1: let's call it what it is. This is going to
- 4:56Speaker 1: be two years of a swamp. To put in a
- 5:01Speaker 1: word that would resonate there, it's it's going to be
- 5:05Speaker 1: a swamp for a couple of years.
- 5:06Speaker 2: They're going to be bad.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And unfortunately, the way this league is right now, there's
- 5:11Speaker 1: not you know, it's not just company of one or
- 5:13Speaker 1: two teams that are in this boat. There's seven, eight,
- 5:16Speaker 1: nine teams right now that are just as bad as
- 5:19Speaker 1: the Saints are. So you've got to find out somebody
- 5:21Speaker 1: who can be the best of the bad.
- 5:23Speaker 2: We'll worry about championships down the road.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I know they've won a super Bowl in the pass,
- 5:26Speaker 1: but we got to get we gotta we got to
- 5:28Speaker 1: take this time here where we're going to have assets
- 5:30Speaker 1: in terms of the draft, and we have to nail
- 5:32Speaker 1: this and I I think that is going to be huge,
- 5:35Speaker 1: and it's not just a drafting and I actually like
- 5:37Speaker 1: that a lot of pieces they haven't placed in their
- 5:39Speaker 1: personnel department led by Jeff Ireland in terms of going
- 5:41Speaker 1: out and finding players. They need to get people in
- 5:43Speaker 1: there that can develop these players. And that's why Aaron
- 5:45Speaker 1: Glenn is a name that makes a lot of sense
- 5:48Speaker 1: to me. And be patient with them. No, this is
- 5:50Speaker 1: going to be a few years before this gets back
- 5:51Speaker 1: to where you want it to be.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:53Speaker 3: No, I think this is interesting because there're gonna be
- 5:56Speaker 3: a lot of teams that look at a Detroit rebuild
- 5:59Speaker 3: and how this team function and try and go there.
- 6:01Speaker 3: And also because of the experience that those guys had
- 6:03Speaker 3: to go through.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Uh did Dan Campbell start at zero to ten? Uh?
- 6:07Speaker 4: To start as Detroit tenyre one one?
- 6:08Speaker 2: Yeah, it was a bunch.
- 6:11Speaker 3: Yeah, it wasn't pretty, but yet they dug themselves out
- 6:13Speaker 3: of there. And then in terms of Aaron Glenn, the
- 6:17Speaker 3: struggles that they had defensively early, but Dan Campbell stuck
- 6:20Speaker 3: with him. He was able to kind of figure it out.
- 6:22Speaker 3: He went from being a man heavy guy to his
- 6:24Speaker 3: own guy to back to a man guy. So he's
- 6:26Speaker 3: shown some adaptability. We know he has the edge and
- 6:29Speaker 3: the fire. It will be interesting to see if they
- 6:33Speaker 3: do it because he does know the building, He understands
- 6:36Speaker 3: the lay of the land, and I think where they
- 6:39Speaker 3: are typically you go completely different than that. But I
- 6:43Speaker 3: will say this, Aaron Glenn and Dennis Allen, where teammates
- 6:46Speaker 3: at Texas A and M, is a friendship there.
- 6:49Speaker 1: It'll just be a little not dicey, but it just
- 6:52Speaker 1: be a little yeah, that's happening to take over those
- 6:55Speaker 1: It's a smile.
- 6:56Speaker 4: I'm just saying. It's one of those things that you
- 7:00Speaker 4: have to talk about.
- 7:02Speaker 1: Yeah, No, it's interesting, but it'll be just to see
- 7:04Speaker 1: which direction they do go. Hats off to the same
- 7:07Speaker 1: to the Panthers. By the way, I want to give
- 7:09Speaker 1: them their love. It's a good win for them. Bryce
- 7:11Speaker 1: Young gets some nice things. Actually, watch this game back
- 7:13Speaker 1: to back and we'll get to the Miami game here
- 7:16Speaker 1: a little bit later on. But I watched those games
- 7:18Speaker 1: back to back and I just remember thinking, Okay, if
- 7:19Speaker 1: Caroline is going to move on, I do think that
- 7:21Speaker 1: Miami would be a great spot for Bryce to go
- 7:24Speaker 1: because toua Obviously, he has had injuries, he's missed time,
- 7:27Speaker 1: and he's just that, that's who the type of quarterback
- 7:30Speaker 1: that he is. If you're you know, if you're hoping
- 7:32Speaker 1: he can be something, that's the offense, that's the system,
- 7:35Speaker 1: that's putting the track team around him. That that's the
- 7:39Speaker 1: that's the blueprint for the Carolina Panthers if they are
- 7:41Speaker 1: going to keep Bryce Young. If not, I'd love to
- 7:43Speaker 1: see Bryce Young go to Miami and be kind of
- 7:45Speaker 1: their insurance policy there, tua insurance down the road. But
- 7:48Speaker 1: a good win there for a Carolina Panthers team that
- 7:51Speaker 1: really had a rough go of it. All right, let's
- 7:53Speaker 1: get to the second piece of news on the coaching front.
- 7:55Speaker 1: We'll get to all these games, but I thought we
- 7:58Speaker 1: should start here. We talked about Dennis Allen going, how
- 8:00Speaker 1: about the Raiders rat the Raiders day jettison, Lukeasi the
- 8:05Speaker 1: offensive coordinator, offensive line coach gone, quarterback coach gone. That
- 8:08Speaker 1: is a lot to replace within a season. But the
- 8:11Speaker 1: other side of it is you can't get worse, so
- 8:15Speaker 1: you know, let's try something else.
- 8:17Speaker 5: Yeah, Look, I think there was a lot about, you know,
- 8:21Speaker 5: the way that the offense was constructed at the top
- 8:24Speaker 5: that left you know, some things to be desired, right.
- 8:27Speaker 5: I think there was a lot of talk about, you know,
- 8:29Speaker 5: the way in which you know, Luke Getsy utilized justin
- 8:32Speaker 5: fields there in Chicago, was it all fields? Was it
- 8:35Speaker 5: gets He was a combination of both. And he comes
- 8:37Speaker 5: in in a you know, a really tough spot like
- 8:39Speaker 5: where you've got two quarterbacks that you know, I'm not
- 8:42Speaker 5: sure would find you know, starting quarterback. You know, jobs
- 8:46Speaker 5: to lead a franchise anywhere else with with Gardner Minshew
- 8:50Speaker 5: and with Aidan O'Connell. And as much as you know,
- 8:52Speaker 5: I love watching Gardner Minshew play like it just it
- 8:55Speaker 5: has that fit has not worked.
- 8:57Speaker 6: He's had some.
- 8:57Speaker 5: Flashes, certainly where they've had some competent play there, but
- 9:00Speaker 5: not not on the whole enough to have winning football
- 9:03Speaker 5: on a consistent basis. So this was an unenviable situation.
- 9:09Speaker 5: I feel like offensively, really for anyone quarterback coordinator, I
- 9:12Speaker 5: just feel like that roster on the offensive side had flaws.
- 9:16Speaker 5: But here's here's one thing, Bucky, here's what I'm doing
- 9:19Speaker 5: as I'm stepping in, you know, to the play caller role.
- 9:22Speaker 5: Now for the Las Vegas Raiders, Priorty one, Get brock
- 9:26Speaker 5: Bowers involved, Priority two, Get brock Powers involved, Priority three.
- 9:31Speaker 5: Use brock Bowers in some way, shape or form to
- 9:34Speaker 5: help ignite your run game, and then let's see where
- 9:36Speaker 5: we go from there. Because I think the more you
- 9:38Speaker 5: take the ball out of the air, out of the ball,
- 9:40Speaker 5: the more you try to you know, shorten games, the
- 9:43Speaker 5: more competitive you're gonna be able to be in some
- 9:45Speaker 5: of these games.
- 9:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think the frustration for the Raiders, now,
- 9:49Speaker 3: I wouldn't have suggested like a mid season firing not
- 9:52Speaker 3: only of the coordinator.
- 9:53Speaker 4: But the quarterback coach, the old line coach or whatever.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Lost a lot. That's a lot at one time. And
- 9:58Speaker 4: I'll say this like half the season.
- 10:00Speaker 3: I don't know if it's enough time to do a
- 10:01Speaker 3: full evaluation on whether somebody is a good play caller
- 10:04Speaker 3: or not.
- 10:05Speaker 4: But here we are.
- 10:06Speaker 3: And so if you're the Raiders, the one thing that
- 10:08Speaker 3: Antonioppierce has talked about is they want to run the football.
- 10:10Speaker 3: They want to play tough and physical and has to
- 10:12Speaker 3: look right. They recognize and appreciate what they have in
- 10:15Speaker 3: brock Powers, and so in order raett it would be, Hey,
- 10:18Speaker 3: it's the brock Bowers show. And if it's not going
- 10:21Speaker 3: to brock Bowers, then it's going in the belly of
- 10:22Speaker 3: a running back.
- 10:23Speaker 4: And that's how we're going to operate.
- 10:24Speaker 3: We're gonna run it and run it and run it,
- 10:26Speaker 3: and we we throw it were throwing the brock Bowers
- 10:28Speaker 3: and then we're.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Gonna reset, let me and do it all over again.
- 10:31Speaker 4: Like that's what it has to.
- 10:33Speaker 3: Be because when you look at the players that they have,
- 10:35Speaker 3: if we talk about players, not players, brock Bowers and
- 10:38Speaker 3: I would say maybe the other tied end Michaelmarer.
- 10:41Speaker 4: The are two best players. So the ball has to
- 10:43Speaker 4: go to them first and then figure out who to
- 10:45Speaker 4: get it who else needs a touch, But it has
- 10:47Speaker 4: to be about a tight end centric offense.
- 10:50Speaker 1: I don't know what the conversation was when the decisions
- 10:53Speaker 1: were made. But after watching the tape this morning, I
- 10:56Speaker 1: wouldn't be surprised if it was all right who in
- 11:00Speaker 1: the room coaches want a razor hand thought it would
- 11:03Speaker 1: be a good idea for their Munford to be left
- 11:04Speaker 1: alone with Trey hendrickson. Any hands, and maybe those are
- 11:07Speaker 1: the three hands that went up. I don't know, but
- 11:09Speaker 1: that was Holy Moly, that was that was painful. That
- 11:12Speaker 1: was X rated watching that matchup from that game. But
- 11:16Speaker 1: they have offensive line issues, they have some receiver issues,
- 11:21Speaker 1: but the elephant in the room is they've got a
- 11:22Speaker 1: quarterback issue. And until they can kind of figure that out,
- 11:26Speaker 1: they're never going to be a good offense. And I'm
- 11:28Speaker 1: just watching some of those throws from that game and
- 11:30Speaker 1: watching that tape, and I'm early on in the process
- 11:33Speaker 1: of watching guys, but I've never seen and Bucky, you
- 11:37Speaker 1: hit this quick and we'll move on. But I've never
- 11:40Speaker 1: seen Shador Sanders throw a ball as bad as some
- 11:44Speaker 1: of those throws in that game. I mean, I can
- 11:46Speaker 1: tell you right now, point blank. He upgrades what they're
- 11:48Speaker 1: working with in a big way, in a major way.
- 11:51Speaker 1: And that was that was always the entire risk when
- 11:53Speaker 1: they made the move.
- 11:54Speaker 3: One the money that they gave Gorn to Minshew, who
- 11:56Speaker 3: has been a journeyman player throughout his time in this league,
- 12:00Speaker 3: to think that he was going to be something different
- 12:02Speaker 3: as a starter for the Raiders is a little baffling.
- 12:05Speaker 3: And then Aidan O'Connell great story, loved what he was
- 12:07Speaker 3: able to do to close it out, but he's not
- 12:09Speaker 3: an upgrade. He's not a high end quarterback prospect, and
- 12:12Speaker 3: so they kind of stuck in. So that's why it
- 12:16Speaker 3: never made sense for them to let Josh Jacobs out
- 12:18Speaker 3: the building. Like if you have a running back, an
- 12:22Speaker 3: elite running back and mass some of your flaws at quarterback,
- 12:26Speaker 3: but because you let him walk, and now you don't.
- 12:29Speaker 4: Have an elite running back, you don't have an elite quarterback.
- 12:31Speaker 4: It's hard to play good football in this league without
- 12:34Speaker 4: a blue chip player at either position.
- 12:37Speaker 1: DJ all the way, I'll agree with you. I'll agree
- 12:39Speaker 1: with you, And I've got a saucy dug in the holster.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I've got a saucy dug in the holster. But you
- 12:43Speaker 1: go ahead, just let it.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Just let it marinate a little bit, right, Just let
- 12:46Speaker 5: that one get a little bit Crispier right there in
- 12:48Speaker 5: the friar. So sheen Steichen did get the most out
- 12:52Speaker 5: of Gardner Minshew last year, right, I mean like they
- 12:55Speaker 5: had that team within, you know, a fourth down drop
- 12:58Speaker 5: of going to the playoffs, and obviously it didn't work out.
- 13:02Speaker 5: So we've seen better Gardner Minshew, and so it does
- 13:06Speaker 5: make you wonder again when he comes back to fit,
- 13:07Speaker 5: comes back to playmaker, comes back to scheme, comes back
- 13:10Speaker 5: to people around that just kind of help bring out
- 13:16Speaker 5: the bad side of what we've seen from Gardner as well.
- 13:18Speaker 2: You talked about it, Josh Jacobs.
- 13:20Speaker 1: Buck how about during the free agency last year, people, oh,
- 13:24Speaker 1: you know, we got all these running backs and it
- 13:26Speaker 1: kind of shows all these guys are free agents with
- 13:28Speaker 1: the value and nobody wants these guys even though they're
- 13:30Speaker 1: high picks and good football players. Leading rusher in the NFL,
- 13:34Speaker 1: Derek Henry was a free agent last year, signed for
- 13:36Speaker 1: a reasonable deal. Number two Sakuon Barkley goes to Philadelphia.
- 13:40Speaker 1: He's having an unbelievable year, and number.
- 13:41Speaker 2: Three Josh Jacobs.
- 13:42Speaker 1: All three of those free agents last year that the
- 13:44Speaker 1: best three running backs in the NFL through the halfway
- 13:46Speaker 1: point of the season, So it worked out quite well
- 13:49Speaker 1: for those teams making an investment, which is going to
- 13:52Speaker 1: get me to the next game here, because this is
- 13:54Speaker 1: really kind of the game of the day was Detroit
- 13:56Speaker 1: Green Bay and if you look at this game, I
- 13:59Speaker 1: was thinking about this from Detroit standpoint, and they won
- 14:03Speaker 1: this ball game twenty four to fourteen. And I want
- 14:05Speaker 1: to get to some other thoughts on it as well,
- 14:07Speaker 1: but the first thing I was thinking of was the NFC.
- 14:11Speaker 1: The Philadelphi Eagles, who've been right there right chasing a
- 14:14Speaker 1: championship right there, missed lost in a Super Bowl. They
- 14:17Speaker 1: go out and get Saquon Barkley as that piece. The
- 14:20Speaker 1: Detroit Lions, who are knocking on the door in the
- 14:22Speaker 1: championship game last year. They've they invest a first round
- 14:26Speaker 1: pick in Jamior Gibbs, who's a big time difference maker
- 14:29Speaker 1: for their offense. And then you have San Francisco and
- 14:32Speaker 1: they're going to get McCaffrey back. And we saw what
- 14:34Speaker 1: they look like with McCaffrey in their offense and the
- 14:38Speaker 1: jolt that he gave them when he came via a
- 14:40Speaker 1: trade which.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Was not cheap, in a contract that is not cheap.
- 14:43Speaker 1: I just find it fascinating that these teams that have
- 14:46Speaker 1: good offensive coaches, respected offensive minds have decided, you know,
- 14:52Speaker 1: and teams that are super Bowl caliber teams have decided
- 14:54Speaker 1: to invest some resources in premier running backs.
- 14:57Speaker 2: Buck.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Yeah, that is not a surprise.
- 15:00Speaker 3: It's one of those things where we went through this
- 15:01Speaker 3: phase where everyone was talking about the devaluation of a
- 15:04Speaker 3: running back.
- 15:04Speaker 4: You don't need one, and I think you need one.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I think it's about finding the right fit for your
- 15:10Speaker 3: offense based on the level of quarterback play that you have.
- 15:13Speaker 3: And to me, whenever you have an MVP and Lamar
- 15:17Speaker 3: Jackson and then you back it up with a guy
- 15:19Speaker 3: who's been a two time rushing champ, it says you
- 15:21Speaker 3: all you need about how some teams view the importance
- 15:25Speaker 3: of the position. And with Josh Jacobs having the success
- 15:27Speaker 3: that he's having to go with Derrick Henry Sakwon borak
- 15:30Speaker 3: through who I saw a real time and let me
- 15:32Speaker 3: say this, DJ, to see him do a backwards hurdle.
- 15:36Speaker 2: And you were you I need to know, tell me
- 15:38Speaker 2: where you were when that happened.
- 15:41Speaker 3: At this I'm right across the sideline, so I'm on
- 15:44Speaker 3: the it's on the other side of the field. But
- 15:46Speaker 3: I'm looking and I'm seeing it, and I'm like, did
- 15:49Speaker 3: he just backwards jump over a defender like I? And
- 15:55Speaker 3: and so everyone, even on the Jaguars sideline, was like,
- 16:02Speaker 3: so it is one of the more remarkable things that
- 16:06Speaker 3: I've ever seen, because that's not something that you can
- 16:10Speaker 3: think out plan and say, oh, you know what I'm doing.
- 16:12Speaker 4: I'm gonna turn around. Oh and when I get here,
- 16:14Speaker 4: I'm just gonna pop up the instincts and the reaction
- 16:17Speaker 4: that he has. Man. But you know what I feel
- 16:20Speaker 4: bad for. I feel bad for all these high school
- 16:22Speaker 4: coaches around the country that it's gonna split around and
- 16:29Speaker 4: just jump up, and so many of them are gonna
- 16:32Speaker 4: have little timeouse penny. It's gonna get hit in the
- 16:36Speaker 4: little in the little yeah, oh yeah. Because that's not
- 16:39Speaker 4: for everybody. That's not for everybody.
- 16:43Speaker 5: You know what I thought of when I saw that,
- 16:45Speaker 5: I was like, I immediately thought Michael Jordan, right the signature,
- 16:50Speaker 5: you know, that's on the signature, imagerying imagery from you know,
- 16:54Speaker 5: the Jumpman collection, and with the leg like he did,
- 16:57Speaker 5: like the reverse Jordan, Like if if that Jordan dunk
- 17:01Speaker 5: had been from behind jumping that way with the legs
- 17:04Speaker 5: going up and over, Like I just I've never seen
- 17:08Speaker 5: someone with such incredible instinct have the athleticism to make
- 17:14Speaker 5: that kind of play on the fly, Like how does
- 17:17Speaker 5: that even register in your muscle memory? That just come
- 17:21Speaker 5: out like oh yeah, this is this is the best
- 17:23Speaker 5: path getting by this next guy. That just tells you
- 17:26Speaker 5: what kind of special player that is.
- 17:29Speaker 2: No doubt.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I want to go circle back real quick though on
- 17:33Speaker 1: on Detroit Green Bay. If we had an nd season
- 17:36Speaker 1: tournament like the NBA Buck, I mean, would anybody not
- 17:39Speaker 1: pick the Detroit Lions. I know the Chiefs are undefeated,
- 17:42Speaker 1: but I mean we're going to say if the Super
- 17:43Speaker 1: Bowl was tomorrow, is as the teams are currently constructed
- 17:45Speaker 1: and health wise, I mean, everybody would pick the Lions.
- 17:49Speaker 4: I mean you got to because their team that can
- 17:51Speaker 4: win any style, anyway, any place, however you want to
- 17:56Speaker 4: do it. They can do it. They can run it,
- 17:58Speaker 4: they can throw it, they can play defense. They have
- 17:59Speaker 4: an explosive offense. They want to play ball control.
- 18:02Speaker 3: Jerry Golf is effective, He's efficient, he is not putting
- 18:05Speaker 3: the ball in harm's way. I mean, this is just
- 18:07Speaker 3: a well constructed team. And to just think about all
- 18:11Speaker 3: the laughs and jokes that the Lions have endured throughout
- 18:14Speaker 3: the years, and to look at them right now as
- 18:17Speaker 3: the class of the league. They don't have any chips
- 18:20Speaker 3: to go with it, but to think about how they
- 18:22Speaker 3: played the roster they play.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Everybody's talking about their culture, their team building methods. This
- 18:28Speaker 4: team right now is kind of like the model of
- 18:30Speaker 4: how you want to build your team going forward.
- 18:33Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm happy for the yeah, go ahead, go ahead, good. Yeah.
- 18:37Speaker 5: I was just looking at this like, you know, thinking
- 18:40Speaker 5: back to when my dad was with the Lions and
- 18:42Speaker 5: going to some of those games and as hard as
- 18:44Speaker 5: it was and as bad as it had gotten, you
- 18:47Speaker 5: know that eight year before Matthew Stafford came, you know,
- 18:50Speaker 5: watching them oil and struggle through you know, a bottom
- 18:54Speaker 5: of the barrel type of roster and just not hitting
- 18:56Speaker 5: on top draft picks. And now seeing the way all
- 18:59Speaker 5: of that is has been so cool. And I think
- 19:01Speaker 5: Jared Goff's renaissance here with Detroit is one of the
- 19:04Speaker 5: best stories, you know, I think the league has to
- 19:07Speaker 5: offer over the course of the last couple of years.
- 19:09Speaker 6: We talk about the success he's had, you.
- 19:11Speaker 5: Know, this year in terms of just not throwing in completions,
- 19:16Speaker 5: I guess is his fourth game of the season with
- 19:18Speaker 5: an eighty plus completetion percentage with a passing touchdown, tied
- 19:22Speaker 5: for the most such games in a single season since
- 19:24Speaker 5: nineteen fifty. Now, I went back and looked at all
- 19:26Speaker 5: these throws, like this is not a dink and dunk
- 19:29Speaker 5: throw type of offense. Like he's pushing the ball down
- 19:32Speaker 5: the field to Sam Blaporta twenty yards on an indcut.
- 19:34Speaker 5: That throw to a Mona Saint Brown that back shoulder
- 19:36Speaker 5: down there in the red zone.
- 19:38Speaker 6: These are not like.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Low degree of difficulty throws that he's piling up here.
- 19:42Speaker 5: Sure there's some here and there, And then you think
- 19:44Speaker 5: about it, like, yeah, they got a really good offensive line, but.
- 19:47Speaker 6: He still gets hit in pressure at a pretty good rate.
- 19:50Speaker 5: Like they are not one of the top outfits in
- 19:52Speaker 5: terms of limiting pressure on the quarterback and limiting hits
- 19:55Speaker 5: on the quarterback. And just one more saucy nug here
- 19:57Speaker 5: for you, by the way, which I discovered in I'm
- 20:00Speaker 5: to study in the lines. This way, the Tampa Bay
- 20:02Speaker 5: Buccaneers have only allowed Baker Mayfield to get touched ten
- 20:07Speaker 5: times this year, seven sacks, three hits, he's only been
- 20:12Speaker 5: touched ten times, So just a little bonus saucy nug.
- 20:15Speaker 6: I'll let you finish though, DJ, which you got with
- 20:16Speaker 6: the Lions.
- 20:18Speaker 2: That's really socid. That is a good saucy nug. Look.
- 20:22Speaker 1: I had a chance to bump into Brad Holmes and
- 20:24Speaker 1: talk with him on the field. I was at the
- 20:26Speaker 1: Michigan Oregon game and talking to him before that game.
- 20:29Speaker 1: I said, exactly what you guys were just talking about,
- 20:31Speaker 1: which is, man, I have so much respect for how
- 20:33Speaker 1: you built this team like this. This is a blueprint
- 20:35Speaker 1: for how you build a football team at the line
- 20:37Speaker 1: of scrimmage both sides, an identity of physicality, It travels well,
- 20:42Speaker 1: it works in the postseason. He's just done a phenomenal job.
- 20:46Speaker 1: And one of those players that I want to give
- 20:48Speaker 1: him credit for is Kirby Joseph, who's got six picks now.
- 20:51Speaker 1: I was going back through my notes on him in
- 20:54Speaker 1: the twenty two class senior bowler five interceptions is last
- 20:58Speaker 1: year at Illinois. Mid field range, excellent anticipation, flashes, some
- 21:03Speaker 1: big hits will he does take some charges in the
- 21:06Speaker 1: run game.
- 21:06Speaker 2: It had a hamstring no.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Forty, so you don't have a forty time on him,
- 21:10Speaker 1: but six one two and three pounds, But buck to.
- 21:14Speaker 2: Put a bow on it.
- 21:14Speaker 1: Last thought, these guys that get their hands on the football,
- 21:19Speaker 1: these quarterbacks that rack up sacks. You know, we can
- 21:22Speaker 1: talk about highweight, speed and length and all this stuff.
- 21:25Speaker 1: It's a production business man like this, this guy. These
- 21:27Speaker 1: guys that are ball magets in college end up being
- 21:29Speaker 1: ball magnets in the NFL.
- 21:31Speaker 4: Man, the production is everything and so much of what
- 21:34Speaker 4: we do with scouts.
- 21:35Speaker 3: We talk about the measurables in those things, but we
- 21:37Speaker 3: have to account for the production. It's hard to expect
- 21:40Speaker 3: someone to do something that they've never done previously. So
- 21:44Speaker 3: how can you expect someone to be a guy that
- 21:45Speaker 3: is an interception king if they weren't getting a bunch
- 21:48Speaker 3: of interceptions in college or in high school. There's something
- 21:51Speaker 3: about that, and Kirby Joseph is a nice example of
- 21:53Speaker 3: This dude is always around the ball. Particularly when every
- 21:56Speaker 3: this dude plays the Green Bay Packers.
- 21:58Speaker 4: He finds a way to make a play. It's just
- 22:00Speaker 4: something that is in his DNA. He does it year
- 22:04Speaker 4: in year out when he takes when he lies up
- 22:07Speaker 4: against the green and goal.
- 22:09Speaker 1: We'll see if these teams end up meeting down the
- 22:10Speaker 1: road in the playoffs as well. This feels like this
- 22:13Speaker 1: could be a there would be a three meeting affair
- 22:15Speaker 1: here between these teams.
- 22:16Speaker 2: But right now, Detroit Lions, they're better.
- 22:19Speaker 1: They're better in a lot of areas and it showed
- 22:21Speaker 1: on the field on the road in Lambeau. So big
- 22:24Speaker 1: win for the Detroit Lions. It's a big matchup in
- 22:32Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest with the Seattle Seahawks bringing in the
- 22:36Speaker 1: Los Angeles Rams and all all bat leadoff on this one.
- 22:38Speaker 1: This is a game that the Rams won, big win
- 22:41Speaker 1: for them, twenty six to twenty. It is all bunched
- 22:43Speaker 1: up together there in the NFC West. Tough loss for
- 22:46Speaker 1: the Seattle Seahawks. But my takeaway and Buck, I'll get
- 22:50Speaker 1: over to you on this is this defensive line. Jared
- 22:53Speaker 1: Verse I tweeted out, like this guy has a disdain
- 22:56Speaker 1: for anyone who attempts to block him. Like he plays
- 22:59Speaker 1: so violent and so angry, and I know he I
- 23:02Speaker 1: guess the reason he slipped was because he was a
- 23:04Speaker 1: little older in the draft. I didn't make sense to
- 23:07Speaker 1: me for what I thought he was and for where
- 23:09Speaker 1: he went. I thought they got tremendous value for the Rams,
- 23:13Speaker 1: but he knows how to rush. Fisk has been just
- 23:16Speaker 1: hell on wheels inside with what he's doing. And they've
- 23:20Speaker 1: got all first second year players on this defensive front
- 23:22Speaker 1: and they're just they're athletic, they're just nasty. Like that's
- 23:26Speaker 1: the biggest takeaway for me watching this group is there's
- 23:29Speaker 1: a violence to their pass rush plan, which I absolutely
- 23:33Speaker 1: love watching.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 23:35Speaker 3: No, they have a blueprint in terms of what they're
- 23:38Speaker 3: looking for as a player and how it messages with
- 23:40Speaker 3: this game. And the Rams have done a really good
- 23:43Speaker 3: job of drafting over the last couple of years, particularly
- 23:45Speaker 3: when it comes to the middle to late stages of
- 23:48Speaker 3: the draft. But then when you talk about Jerry Buris
- 23:50Speaker 3: and Brendan Fist, like they've been able to know it
- 23:51Speaker 3: at the top and they have a clear picture of
- 23:54Speaker 3: what they want.
- 23:54Speaker 4: They put those guys in a position that is very
- 23:57Speaker 4: similar to.
- 23:58Speaker 3: The way that they were asked to play in college,
- 24:00Speaker 3: and you're seeing the same kind of production, the same
- 24:02Speaker 3: kind of results. This is an hardened team, a team
- 24:06Speaker 3: that is physical, and even though we don't expect them
- 24:09Speaker 3: to be a team that is going to be in
- 24:11Speaker 3: the postseason, they find their way out of a one
- 24:14Speaker 3: and four start to be right back in the conversation
- 24:17Speaker 3: as one of the top teams in that division.
- 24:19Speaker 5: And then on the flip side, by the way, I
- 24:21Speaker 5: love what they're doing. I love that is a tough
- 24:24Speaker 5: group there with la Man, like that is a gritty group.
- 24:27Speaker 5: I love what that defense is doing with Creshula, and
- 24:30Speaker 5: like they've grown this season, kind of grown together, first
- 24:32Speaker 5: year coordinator, a bunch of young players. Love that that's
- 24:35Speaker 5: all kind of moving together in the right direction now.
- 24:37Speaker 5: But I looked at Seattle here, looked at Jackson Smith
- 24:40Speaker 5: and Jigba in particular, who I think you know would
- 24:44Speaker 5: be now is going to be at some point best
- 24:46Speaker 5: slot player in the league with his explosiveness and ability
- 24:50Speaker 5: to make game changing plays. But there was a two
- 24:53Speaker 5: play sequence early in the game here for the Seahawks
- 24:55Speaker 5: that has kind of been a microcosm of this game
- 24:58Speaker 5: and of their season. So it's a seecond thirty one
- 25:01Speaker 5: great play design from Ryan Grubb. Okay, you got Jackson
- 25:04Speaker 5: Smith and jig but in motion back and forth across
- 25:07Speaker 5: the formation, dB McCulla ends up following him the whole way,
- 25:11Speaker 5: and once he settles in on the tight end side.
- 25:14Speaker 5: The tight end widens off the ball immediately, which grabs McCullough.
- 25:17Speaker 5: So there's like a switch off right, And so then
- 25:19Speaker 5: you've got JSN working on rose Boom. The linebacker JSN
- 25:23Speaker 5: also widens, is starting to run and set up a screen, right,
- 25:26Speaker 5: so he set up a wide receiver screen. They get
- 25:29Speaker 5: a couple of blockers in front because JSN and Widen
- 25:33Speaker 5: gives great leverage to get the block from the offensive
- 25:35Speaker 5: lineman on rose Boom, and then he turns into a
- 25:38Speaker 5: running back. The other two offensive linemen working on the
- 25:40Speaker 5: screen totally with don't block a soul. And you've got
- 25:44Speaker 5: JASN who breaks three tackles on his way to a
- 25:47Speaker 5: twenty yard game, including Kobe Turner, the defensive tackle who
- 25:51Speaker 5: Jaysn is able to shake off and continue running. It
- 25:54Speaker 5: shows his ability to you know, to kind of get
- 25:57Speaker 5: open and then make plays with the ball in his hand.
- 26:00Speaker 5: But then on the very next play he's open in
- 26:02Speaker 5: the middle of the field on third and nine and
- 26:05Speaker 5: is coming back towards the quarterback. Geno fires one to
- 26:07Speaker 5: him and he goes up with it like this to
- 26:10Speaker 5: try to catch it, as opposed to like this and
- 26:13Speaker 5: ball bounces out of his hands and right into the
- 26:16Speaker 5: hands of McCullough for one of his two interceptions on
- 26:18Speaker 5: the day. And it's like, you go for making a
- 26:21Speaker 5: great play and just don't quite put it all together.
- 26:24Speaker 5: On the next one, which kind of again encapsulates the
- 26:26Speaker 5: day for Seattle. Gino throws two red zone interceptions. They
- 26:30Speaker 5: have every opportunity to win the game and can't.
- 26:31Speaker 1: Get Yeah, and let's before we move on to the
- 26:35Speaker 1: next game here, let's give Cam Kitchens some love as well.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Think about all the rookies on the back end. Two
- 26:39Speaker 1: picks for Cam Kitchens coming out of Miami. A good
- 26:43Speaker 1: value pick there for Less Snead, who's just I mean,
- 26:46Speaker 1: he's done a phenomenal job of finding these young defensive
- 26:50Speaker 1: players over the last couple of years. Give him his
- 26:52Speaker 1: love there, give him his flowers. You see the pick
- 26:55Speaker 1: six there, you get two picks, one hundred and three
- 26:56Speaker 1: yards on the return, including the touchdown. Not a bad
- 26:59Speaker 1: day there for Cam Kitchens. So give him some love.
- 27:02Speaker 1: You talked about the Saquon run. What are the rest
- 27:03Speaker 1: of the game. Give me something else from that game.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Okay, So I'm gonna say this, and I'm gonna say
- 27:07Speaker 3: this as respectful as I can to the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 27:11Speaker 4: The Philadelphia Eagles have a roster that is super Bowl caliber.
- 27:16Speaker 4: I worry if their coach can get them over the threshold.
- 27:19Speaker 3: The game that I watched yesterday, the Philadelphia Eagles should
- 27:23Speaker 3: the Molly Watch to Jacksonville Jaguars based on the way
- 27:25Speaker 3: they had control of the game. You had through coaching
- 27:28Speaker 3: gaps and misgues and errors. They allowed the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- 27:32Speaker 4: To hang in the game and almost win the game.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Because Nick Sirianne is not like taking points when points
- 27:38Speaker 3: are available. He doesn't like field goals, he doesn't like
- 27:41Speaker 3: extra points, he doesn't like the gimmes.
- 27:44Speaker 4: That are there. And in a game where you feel
- 27:46Speaker 4: very early that you have controlled over the other team,
- 27:49Speaker 4: all they needed to do was stack points and the
- 27:52Speaker 4: Jacksonville Jaguars would not have been able to close the
- 27:55Speaker 4: gap nor made the game competitive. But because you won't
- 27:59Speaker 4: play by I was a conventional rules, he makes every
- 28:03Speaker 4: game more difficult for the Eagles than it needs to be.
- 28:06Speaker 4: What I worry about is not that the Eagles won't
- 28:08Speaker 4: get to the postseason, but I worry about a team
- 28:11Speaker 4: it has a potential to be able to be a
- 28:13Speaker 4: super Bowl team will not accomplish those goals because their
- 28:16Speaker 4: head coach will get in the way with his decision made.
- 28:19Speaker 6: Yeah, you know I I I think again, you saw.
- 28:24Speaker 4: A little harsh. I was a little harsh.
- 28:25Speaker 6: Sorry, no, let it sink.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I mean it's been said a lot. A lot of
- 28:30Speaker 2: people have had that.
- 28:31Speaker 1: I haven't had a chance to I've seen some the
- 28:33Speaker 1: tape of the game, but i haven't seen the You know,
- 28:36Speaker 1: when you're not watching the TV copy, you don't get
- 28:38Speaker 1: the context of the decisions that are taking place.
- 28:42Speaker 6: That's true.
- 28:43Speaker 5: And you know, I think again, this offense slowed down
- 28:46Speaker 5: a little bit as AJ Brown went out, Just as
- 28:48Speaker 5: we talked about last week. They really found rhythm again
- 28:51Speaker 5: when he was back in the lineup and then he
- 28:53Speaker 5: goes down and you know, he kind of becomes you know, Thankfully,
- 28:56Speaker 5: they had DeVante Smith make one of the most incredible
- 28:58Speaker 5: I mean, like the Eagles made two of the most
- 28:59Speaker 5: incredible plays offensively we've seen all season in this game
- 29:02Speaker 5: with the Saquon run and then that DeVante Smith catch
- 29:05Speaker 5: at the end was so powerful. But the AJ Brown
- 29:10Speaker 5: absence and how long he's going to be out again?
- 29:11Speaker 5: I think is something that you got to watch for
- 29:13Speaker 5: long term viability of offensive success here for Billy.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Yeah, I would just say a couple of things. Number One,
- 29:20Speaker 1: there's a run I watched all Saquon's explosives, which are
- 29:23Speaker 1: incredible watching.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Him run the ball.
- 29:25Speaker 1: But Davante Smith's in there digging out second level defenders
- 29:28Speaker 1: in the run game. So that's usually that's a good
- 29:31Speaker 1: sign for kind of the culture of your offense that
- 29:33Speaker 1: you've got your receivers doing that type of dirty work
- 29:35Speaker 1: and not the biggest receiver in the world. And Devonte
- 29:38Speaker 1: Smith so that was good to see. And Josh Sweat
- 29:40Speaker 1: had a good game, couple of sacks, he rushed well.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And you know, if we're going to go through buck
- 29:47Speaker 1: and if we assume there's such thing as a roster realtor,
- 29:51Speaker 1: should we put a forced sales sign on the roster
- 29:55Speaker 1: of the Jags right now and say, come on, bring
- 29:57Speaker 1: you best and final offers here For some of these guys, I.
- 30:00Speaker 3: Just don't know what you would sell off. I don't
- 30:03Speaker 3: know who you would sell off, because the guys that
- 30:05Speaker 3: you would sell off are already either gone or they're hurt.
- 30:08Speaker 3: Jam Robinson was traded away Christian Kirk is hurt, like,
- 30:12Speaker 3: I don't know who you would go and you would
- 30:14Speaker 3: go and get I would say the thing that will
- 30:17Speaker 3: hurt the jacksonanth Jaguars when they go back and they
- 30:19Speaker 3: look at this season, it would just be a season.
- 30:21Speaker 4: Of lost opportunities.
- 30:23Speaker 3: Five games where you've lost by five points or fewer
- 30:26Speaker 3: games in which you've had the ball in the hands
- 30:28Speaker 3: of your best player, Trevor Lawrence, and the ball has
- 30:31Speaker 3: not gone the way that it's supposed to go in
- 30:34Speaker 3: terms of like getting the ball to the right playmaker,
- 30:37Speaker 3: making the play that you want to see. We just
- 30:39Speaker 3: haven't seen those things from him. And it's not from
- 30:43Speaker 3: like a fire of trying. Just hasn't been able to
- 30:46Speaker 3: execute in those moments. And you would like to see
- 30:49Speaker 3: that from your franchise quarterback. But it's not just him,
- 30:51Speaker 3: it's a defense. They gave up two touchdowns on third
- 30:54Speaker 3: and forever situations. Taekwon Barkley scores on a third and
- 30:58Speaker 3: nineteen on a run, and then the cass that we
- 31:01Speaker 3: saw Devanci Smith make a great catch. That was another
- 31:04Speaker 3: third and seventeen situation where they let the ball go
- 31:07Speaker 3: over the top. You know, it's just a combination of everything,
- 31:11Speaker 3: like his players, coaching, his execution is everybody, and so
- 31:16Speaker 3: everybody takes a hand in it when your team is
- 31:17Speaker 3: two and seven.
- 31:18Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's a fair point there with Jags. We'll
- 31:22Speaker 1: see what happens. Here is the deadline is less twenty
- 31:24Speaker 1: four hours away. Here, let's get through a couple more
- 31:27Speaker 1: games here quickly. Miami Buffalo. I watched to a Rhett
- 31:31Speaker 1: and I thought he looked like to him, I didn't
- 31:32Speaker 1: see any rust with him coming back twenty seven points.
- 31:36Speaker 1: It looks completely different, you know, over the last few
- 31:38Speaker 1: weeks with him back in the lineup. So I was
- 31:42Speaker 1: I was honed in on that one. I want to say, Okay,
- 31:43Speaker 1: he's going upgainst Buffalo is playing really really well to
- 31:46Speaker 1: him make a difference, And I thought he did, and
- 31:48Speaker 1: they're right there to the end and took a ridiculous
- 31:50Speaker 1: field goal to beat him.
- 31:52Speaker 6: I agree.
- 31:52Speaker 5: The sixty yarder there from Bass after he had missed
- 31:56Speaker 5: a little bit in that game, I think was important.
- 31:57Speaker 5: But again I think it comes down to me like
- 31:59Speaker 5: they are so much more effective in the run game
- 32:02Speaker 5: right with two tungue of I looa, which makes you
- 32:04Speaker 5: think DJ about all and Bucky about all that goes
- 32:07Speaker 5: through to a in this Like, it's not just trying
- 32:09Speaker 5: to activate Tyreek Hill explosively down the field, They're Jalen
- 32:12Speaker 5: Waddle down the field.
- 32:13Speaker 4: Like.
- 32:13Speaker 5: That's not the only impact that Tua has on this offense.
- 32:16Speaker 5: It's the way in which they can operate the run
- 32:19Speaker 5: game with him in there as well, with the you know,
- 32:21Speaker 5: his ability to be cerebral in this Mike McDaniels system.
- 32:24Speaker 5: So I think, I think you're going to see some
- 32:27Speaker 5: good ball here from the Miami Dolphins down the stretch,
- 32:30Speaker 5: and yeah, maybe they end up making a run at
- 32:32Speaker 5: this thing in a wildcard race. Because Buck, the Buffalo
- 32:35Speaker 5: Bills are winning this thing and the AFC is going
- 32:37Speaker 5: away right now with a four game lead.
- 32:39Speaker 3: I think they are. And I'll say this with the
- 32:41Speaker 3: Buffalo Bills. When I look at the Buffalo Bills, and
- 32:44Speaker 3: this last game was an exception to the rule. They've
- 32:47Speaker 3: been pounding people to sleep in terms of like beating
- 32:50Speaker 3: them by significant margins.
- 32:51Speaker 4: This game was much tighter than we expected. But the
- 32:54Speaker 4: Bills keep winning.
- 32:56Speaker 3: And you look up and the Bills are it's in
- 32:58Speaker 3: the seven to two, and they a team that has
- 33:00Speaker 3: a superhero quarterback. They play really good defense, and they're
- 33:04Speaker 3: running the football, and those things are a recipe that
- 33:07Speaker 3: you need to make a deep run in the postseason.
- 33:10Speaker 3: Might not get them there, but depending on the superhero
- 33:13Speaker 3: powers of Josh Allen, it might.
- 33:15Speaker 4: Be able to do it. This is a team that
- 33:18Speaker 4: subtracted some of their pieces in the offseason and they
- 33:21Speaker 4: are a much better team because of it. Addition by
- 33:23Speaker 4: subtraction has worked for the Buffalo Bills.
- 33:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I know you said you got to take it
- 33:27Speaker 1: one game at a time, but if I'm in the
- 33:29Speaker 1: Buffalo Bills personnel department, We're already breaking down Kansas City, Baltimore.
- 33:34Speaker 2: Let's start.
- 33:34Speaker 1: Let's start worrying about the teams we're gonna have to
- 33:36Speaker 1: deal with in the postseason. Pittsburgh, whoever else wants to
- 33:39Speaker 1: come to that party, but let's start doing some of
- 33:41Speaker 1: that work because you are going to roll through your
- 33:43Speaker 1: division and be a playoff team. And this is a
- 33:46Speaker 1: game with the Baltimore Ravens the Denver Broncos. Baltimore Ravens
- 33:50Speaker 1: defense is not what it's been the last few years,
- 33:52Speaker 1: but some encouraging signs in this one, holding bon Knicks
- 33:55Speaker 1: in that Denver offense to ten points and offensively for
- 33:59Speaker 1: the Baltimore Ravens buck not a surprise. Usual suspects here.
- 34:02Speaker 1: Lamar Jackson outstanding. Jay Flowers continues to have an impressive
- 34:07Speaker 1: sophomore campaign as well.
- 34:09Speaker 4: Yeah, no, this is this is this is something they
- 34:11Speaker 4: gets you, right.
- 34:12Speaker 3: So Derrick Henry goes over a thousand yards. We're looking
- 34:15Speaker 3: at the combination of Derrick Henry and Lamar Jackson.
- 34:18Speaker 4: They can run the ball. They can do whatever they
- 34:19Speaker 4: want to do in the.
- 34:20Speaker 3: Run game, whether it's straight traditional downhill runs, whether it's
- 34:24Speaker 3: Reid option stuff with Lamar Jackson pulling, they can do
- 34:26Speaker 3: all of that. Now, they've a similar cast on the
- 34:29Speaker 3: outside that makes you pay for trying to over commit
- 34:33Speaker 3: to the run. We talk about Zay Flowers and what
- 34:35Speaker 3: he is able to do. We can talk about what
- 34:37Speaker 3: Deante Johnson will give them, Isaiah Likely and Mark Andrews offensively.
- 34:43Speaker 3: This team is a juggernaut that no one wants to face.
- 34:46Speaker 3: It's the defense that will determine how far this team
- 34:49Speaker 3: goes in the postseason.
- 34:51Speaker 5: Yeah, and they were better certainly this week than they've
- 34:53Speaker 5: been previously. You know, they've been giving up some points,
- 34:56Speaker 5: you know, for sure, comparatively speaking to what we've expected
- 34:58Speaker 5: from them over the course of the line couple of years.
- 35:00Speaker 5: But like, I couldn't watch this game and not just
- 35:02Speaker 5: be enamored with the juice that Jay Flowers gives his team,
- 35:06Speaker 5: his explosiveness, and like the as fast as he looks
- 35:11Speaker 5: on the field, it's like he's in a different league
- 35:13Speaker 5: with the ball in his hands. It's it's been really
- 35:17Speaker 5: really kind of special to see because there was a
- 35:18Speaker 5: time like early on in the year, you know, I
- 35:21Speaker 5: wasn't getting as much targets his way. You know, Rashad
- 35:25Speaker 5: Bateman has become a bigger piece of the offense. Issadia
- 35:27Speaker 5: likely was really getting a ton of targets early on.
- 35:30Speaker 5: With Zay has really kind of come on here as
- 35:32Speaker 5: of late, and I'm fired up to see what he's
- 35:34Speaker 5: going to bring to this thing as the Ravens really
- 35:36Speaker 5: make this playoff push here, I'll.
- 35:38Speaker 2: Tell you what.
- 35:38Speaker 1: We are only a few weeks away, guys from the Harbowl.
- 35:42Speaker 1: It is around Thanksgiving time. I believe it's a Monday
- 35:45Speaker 1: nighter at sofi In. They both are kind of both
- 35:49Speaker 1: teams playing well right now. I'm looking forward to that
- 35:52Speaker 1: one that is going to be a big time clash
- 35:54Speaker 1: as the Baltimore Ravens with a big win over the
- 35:57Speaker 1: Denver Broncos forty one to ten. All right, this is
- 36:05Speaker 1: a this is a game that I would say, maybe
- 36:08Speaker 1: before the season started, we think we'd be talking about
- 36:11Speaker 1: right at the very top of the broadcast. You'd have
- 36:13Speaker 1: the Dallas Cowboys coming off all these twelve win seasons,
- 36:16Speaker 1: all the excitement brewing. You've got Kirk Cousins and Atlanta,
- 36:19Speaker 1: a team that was just a quarterback away, and here
- 36:22Speaker 1: we are in a game the Falcons, one where the
- 36:25Speaker 1: Falcons are still kind of what we hope they would be,
- 36:28Speaker 1: and the Dallas Cowboys they're a wreck.
- 36:30Speaker 2: They're absolutely a wreck. And now have an injured quarterback.
- 36:34Speaker 6: Yeah, and now sounds like he's gonna miss multiple weeks.
- 36:37Speaker 5: So just kind of I mean, this feels like the
- 36:41Speaker 5: thing that's going to make the pot boil over for Dallas.
- 36:44Speaker 5: Like you could sense the frustration building to a fever pitch,
- 36:48Speaker 5: you know in this game.
- 36:49Speaker 6: I mean Mike McCarthy went, you.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Know, absolutely haywire on a surface tablet on the sideline.
- 36:55Speaker 5: You know, you got Ceedee Lambs banged up on you know,
- 36:58Speaker 5: in a couple of times, but stays in the game,
- 37:00Speaker 5: tries to make it a game late. I mean, there's
- 37:02Speaker 5: just too many times really on both sides of the ball,
- 37:05Speaker 5: especially on defense though in this game where you just
- 37:07Speaker 5: felt like they didn't know exactly what they were supposed
- 37:10Speaker 5: to be doing with what they wanted to be doing.
- 37:13Speaker 5: On a couple of those plays where the Falcons got
- 37:15Speaker 5: to the edge, especially late, it was that one with
- 37:18Speaker 5: Treymond Diggs kind of trailing the play. Looks like he's
- 37:20Speaker 5: talking back and forth, you know, I get it, like
- 37:23Speaker 5: there's some wrinkles the teams are gonna throw in at
- 37:25Speaker 5: you each and every week that are gonna make you
- 37:26Speaker 5: kind of have to sip through the mess to figure
- 37:28Speaker 5: things out. But man, overall, this just this just feels
- 37:32Speaker 5: like a team that's disjointed in a lot of different ways. Obviously,
- 37:35Speaker 5: the run game is still an issue. Obviously there's still
- 37:38Speaker 5: a deficiency you know, on the interior stopping the run.
- 37:41Speaker 6: On the defensive side of the ball.
- 37:42Speaker 5: I just this just kind of more and more feels
- 37:46Speaker 5: like a lost season here in Dallas, especially now with
- 37:49Speaker 5: the DAC news.
- 37:51Speaker 1: I was going to try and be positive on the Cowboys,
- 37:53Speaker 1: I'm like, you know, what I'm gonna I didn't obviously
- 37:55Speaker 1: didn't see the game on TV doing the charge game,
- 37:58Speaker 1: but I'm look at this box score. I'm going to
- 38:00Speaker 1: find a positive nugget in there, and then not a
- 38:02Speaker 1: saucy nug just a positive nug and then I'm gonna
- 38:05Speaker 1: go watch that art portion of the game, watch a cutup,
- 38:08Speaker 1: and I'm gonna bring some positivity. So I looked at it, said, man,
- 38:10Speaker 1: the Cowboys actually ran the ball, okay in this game.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I've been very critical about their run game and the
- 38:15Speaker 1: lack of investment back. So let's watch these runs. What
- 38:18Speaker 1: do I see in the runs? I say, well, the
- 38:19Speaker 1: first two that popped were actually swing passes that were
- 38:22Speaker 1: behind the line of scrimmage.
- 38:23Speaker 2: That get cast, and.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Then it was a Dak Prescott scramble. Then it was
- 38:29Speaker 1: a Ceedee Lamb jet suite. So I'm like, no, they
- 38:31Speaker 1: still have no traditional run game. So I tried Cowboy
- 38:34Speaker 1: fans to be positive. I was looking for positivity and
- 38:37Speaker 1: even that did not work. But a good win for
- 38:40Speaker 1: the Atlanta Falcons. Let's get on to the next game here.
- 38:43Speaker 1: It was the night game, Sunday Night or Indy and Minnesota.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Anything jump out to you in that one run.
- 38:49Speaker 5: Well, the Minnesota Vikings defense is back to being disruptive.
- 38:52Speaker 5: I think is one of the one of the biggest
- 38:53Speaker 5: things you can say. I mean, like Joe Flacco made
- 38:55Speaker 5: the Colts offense competent right when he was in there
- 38:58Speaker 5: for those couple of games. While Anthony Richardson was heard,
- 39:00Speaker 5: he comes back in and man, they just they struggled.
- 39:04Speaker 6: They struggled up front dealing with the rush.
- 39:06Speaker 5: Jonathan Garnard a couple of sacks. I mean, that's the
- 39:09Speaker 5: other thing, like, you know, a quarterback center exchange. I
- 39:12Speaker 5: don't even know if you could put that on the
- 39:13Speaker 5: quarterback DJ you could probably be the expert on that
- 39:16Speaker 5: one there. It just looked like Jonathan Taylor just kind
- 39:18Speaker 5: of let that one go and this is obviously a
- 39:20Speaker 5: throw you can't have. Look at Josh Doallins's frustration after that.
- 39:23Speaker 5: I just think everything went wrong for this offense and
- 39:25Speaker 5: they found zero rhythm and there was a lot that
- 39:28Speaker 5: Minnesota is thrown at you on any given play in
- 39:31Speaker 5: any given series. And then when you've got elite pass
- 39:33Speaker 5: rushers like they do in Jonathan Garnard and company, get
- 39:36Speaker 5: Dallas Turner involved a little bit there, to their first
- 39:38Speaker 5: round draft pick, and man, you're really difficult to deal with.
- 39:42Speaker 1: Back there, I was thinking of this connection, kind of
- 39:44Speaker 1: a random connection with Sam Darnold, and I was thinking of, Okay, look,
- 39:48Speaker 1: he's very accurate, you know from that standpoint in this
- 39:50Speaker 1: ballgame has a bunch of touchdowns, but then also as
- 39:53Speaker 1: the turnovers to go along with it, and I thought,
- 39:55Speaker 1: you know, this kind of reminds me of like young
- 39:56Speaker 1: Matthew Stafford, Like when Stafford in those early years with
- 39:59Speaker 1: Detroit where you'd see games like this one and you know,
- 40:03Speaker 1: maybe win, maybe lose, but you're like, man, he's so accurate.
- 40:06Speaker 1: He's got excellent arm talent, he's a good athlete, he
- 40:08Speaker 1: can make big time, big time throws.
- 40:10Speaker 2: But there's just a couple you'd like to have back.
- 40:13Speaker 2: And I thought, okay, well, Sam, you know, he's been
- 40:14Speaker 2: in the league for a while.
- 40:16Speaker 1: Stafford. I'm compared him to a young Stafford. But really
- 40:19Speaker 1: do we you know, if we look at just Sam
- 40:21Speaker 1: being around competency in terms of everything around in play caller,
- 40:25Speaker 1: the players, the whole setup, the organization, all those things
- 40:29Speaker 1: that we should grade Sam as a young starter, we
- 40:33Speaker 1: shouldn't grade him as this veteran who's you know, on
- 40:37Speaker 1: is what is his third team? Now it should be
- 40:40Speaker 1: more of, hey, this is there's a lot of good
- 40:43Speaker 1: to take out of what Sam Donold's doing every week.
- 40:46Speaker 6: It's a great point.
- 40:47Speaker 5: And I mean, if you're really just counting the seasons
- 40:50Speaker 5: for the you know, the teams that he's actually just
- 40:52Speaker 5: started for, this is kind of like the rookie year
- 40:55Speaker 5: right in terms of if you want to judge on competency,
- 40:57Speaker 5: right on players around him, on playmakers around him, having
- 41:00Speaker 5: the whole foundation. When we talk about with the three p's,
- 41:02Speaker 5: I don't know you can say that with the Jets.
- 41:04Speaker 5: I certainly don't think you could have said that with
- 41:06Speaker 5: his time with the Carolina Panthers, and then now you know,
- 41:08Speaker 5: he didn't really play at all with the San Francisco
- 41:11Speaker 5: forty nine ers. He kind of throw that out there,
- 41:13Speaker 5: and this is the most consistent time period in which
- 41:17Speaker 5: he's had that kind of support system around him. So
- 41:20Speaker 5: we're still just looking, you know, at eight games here
- 41:23Speaker 5: and how he's performing those eight games have been pretty
- 41:25Speaker 5: dang good.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Yeah, no, no question, all positive for me as well
- 41:30Speaker 1: on what Sam Donald was doing and if I can
- 41:31Speaker 1: sitting there at six and two next game, as we
- 41:34Speaker 1: ripped through him here Chicago and Arizona Chicago. Man, as
- 41:40Speaker 1: there's a lot of negativity coming out after that game.
- 41:42Speaker 1: Caleb has not played well a couple of weeks in
- 41:44Speaker 1: a row. If we were going to spin it to
- 41:46Speaker 1: the positive side of the thing of things, I mean,
- 41:49Speaker 1: I was there in Arizona just a few weeks ago,
- 41:51Speaker 1: and this team there was I would say, anks in
- 41:53Speaker 1: the building a little bit of like.
- 41:55Speaker 2: Oh man, you know, what is this year going to
- 41:57Speaker 2: look like? And who are we? What are we searching for?
- 41:59Speaker 2: Your idea entity?
- 42:00Speaker 1: And now all of a sudden you look up and
- 42:02Speaker 1: the Cardinals are five and four, sitting right at the
- 42:04Speaker 1: top of the division, filing really good about things.
- 42:08Speaker 5: Yeah, and you know, one of the things that I
- 42:10Speaker 5: didn't necessarily have on the old Bingo card was the
- 42:13Speaker 5: presence of a three headed monster at running back. That's
- 42:16Speaker 5: starting to come to fruition here. Obviously, Trey Benson. We expected,
- 42:19Speaker 5: you know, as the first running back off the board,
- 42:20Speaker 5: to be one of those guys to contribute. He's been
- 42:22Speaker 5: really kind of slow to find his role, but he Man,
- 42:25Speaker 5: it got us some flashes. Now in addition to what
- 42:28Speaker 5: James Connor is already giving you is that physical kind
- 42:31Speaker 5: of workhorse back and then they get like the little
- 42:33Speaker 5: spark plug and Amari de Mercado every now and then
- 42:36Speaker 5: who rips off the end of half touchdown?
- 42:39Speaker 6: And again, I guess, you know, credit to.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Matt Eberfluss for taking the blame on that said he
- 42:42Speaker 5: was calling a you know, a pass pressure, didn't expect
- 42:44Speaker 5: to run and had his defense in a bad spot.
- 42:47Speaker 5: But talking about two weeks in a row now where
- 42:49Speaker 5: that Chicago Bears defense is given up an end of
- 42:51Speaker 5: half or end of game touchdown on you know something
- 42:54Speaker 5: where they should just be going to the half, going
- 42:55Speaker 5: to the break, you know, with no harm, no foul.
- 42:58Speaker 5: And again it's a big time mom minim shift and
- 43:00Speaker 5: you can almost sense it, you know for that team,
- 43:03Speaker 5: you're like you were going into the half as this again,
- 43:06Speaker 5: here we go again, that sort of thing. And you know,
- 43:09Speaker 5: I'm sure you've seen DJ the DJ more play that
- 43:12Speaker 5: everyone's talking about. Yeah, a couple of things on that right,
- 43:18Speaker 5: you'd like to stay in bounce, right, you like to
- 43:20Speaker 5: not just run out of bounds on the screen eleven
- 43:22Speaker 5: guys on the field, I mean, yes, he does in
- 43:27Speaker 5: fact finish, the play is still happening, and he is
- 43:29Speaker 5: already sitting down on the bench, on the bench which is.
- 43:34Speaker 6: Never seen anything like that before. But two things. He
- 43:36Speaker 6: did kind of look like he got.
- 43:38Speaker 5: A little nicked up on the play, like he kind
- 43:39Speaker 5: of round rolled his ankle a little bit. Plus he
- 43:44Speaker 5: was out of bounds and could not have rejoined the
- 43:47Speaker 5: play effectively. Right, once you're already out of bound, you
- 43:50Speaker 5: can come back and be the first guy in unless
- 43:52Speaker 5: you totally re establish right, but.
- 43:56Speaker 1: Real quick on that, let me put a bow on that.
- 43:58Speaker 1: The only thing is yes, could he tell the ball? No,
- 44:00Speaker 1: he'ld be the first touch the ball. But if I'm
- 44:02Speaker 1: a defensive back and he and there's another human being
- 44:05Speaker 1: with another team's jersey on standing on the field, I
- 44:08Speaker 1: have to cover him.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Like that's just now.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I'm not gonna did he step on the line as yet,
- 44:12Speaker 1: but I have to account for him. That's at least
- 44:14Speaker 1: one defender that you take away just by merely standing.
- 44:18Speaker 1: Even if you were sitting on the field, within the
- 44:21Speaker 1: field to play, you would have a defender. Right, I've
- 44:23Speaker 1: yet to see a defender who will go sit next
- 44:25Speaker 1: to somebody on the bench. That's not going to happen.
- 44:27Speaker 1: They are not going to respect you. It's the target
- 44:29Speaker 1: life and you're sitting on the bench. So that's where
- 44:32Speaker 1: that's that's it on that. When I've I've been critical
- 44:34Speaker 1: Dj Moore in the Houston game. I thought his body
- 44:36Speaker 1: language was terrible in that game. Earlier this year, I
- 44:39Speaker 1: didn't like the way he showed up his quarterback. So
- 44:41Speaker 1: this is not something that's new, and I think that's
- 44:43Speaker 1: probably why it's a bigger deal.
- 44:45Speaker 2: Hoham.
- 44:45Speaker 1: Jayden Daniels, just another consistent performance for Washington as they
- 44:50Speaker 1: take care of the New York Giants fifteen to twenty two,
- 44:53Speaker 1: a couple of touchdowns. It's it's just the game seems slow.
- 44:57Speaker 1: I don't know how else to say it. That's that's
- 44:59Speaker 1: the my takeaway there.
- 45:01Speaker 5: I wouldn't disagree. I mean it just everything comes to
- 45:04Speaker 5: him very naturally, like you know in this throw. I
- 45:07Speaker 5: just I love the Terry McLaurin again, is a big
- 45:09Speaker 5: piece of this offense. I felt like he's disappeared for
- 45:11Speaker 5: the last couple of years, probably not all of his doing,
- 45:15Speaker 5: with some of the quarterback inconsistencies that they've had there.
- 45:18Speaker 6: You know, they do this without Brian Robinson too.
- 45:20Speaker 5: You're able to sit him and get him an extra
- 45:22Speaker 5: week to kind of continue to get healthy. Is that
- 45:24Speaker 5: run game, you know, has been a big piece of
- 45:26Speaker 5: it too, and not just you know, Daniels on the ground,
- 45:28Speaker 5: but having that physical presence with Brian Robinson and then
- 45:31Speaker 5: you know, being able to take care of business without it,
- 45:34Speaker 5: you know, defensively, I think they're playing well. This just
- 45:37Speaker 5: become you know, you want to talk about organizational shifts
- 45:41Speaker 5: like this is this is the biggest turnaround that we've
- 45:45Speaker 5: seen in the NFL from top to bottom, right, ownership change,
- 45:49Speaker 5: personnel change, right. Adam Peters has come in and done
- 45:52Speaker 5: a phenomenal job, better than I think we even thought,
- 45:54Speaker 5: you know, coming out of the draft.
- 45:56Speaker 6: And we're like, man, this offensive line is still going
- 45:58Speaker 6: to be a little but they figured out a way
- 46:00Speaker 6: to get some good play out of that group.
- 46:01Speaker 5: Dan Quinn has done a phenomenal job at the head
- 46:03Speaker 5: coaching spot. Like just all around, top to bottom, this
- 46:06Speaker 5: has become a well run organization.
- 46:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's different than a lot of these turnover
- 46:12Speaker 1: turnarounds because I think of one of the Browns were
- 46:15Speaker 1: just terrible forever and then that that when Baker kind
- 46:18Speaker 1: of got him back into the playoffs that first time.
- 46:20Speaker 1: You looked around and it was, you know, number one
- 46:22Speaker 1: overall picks, first round picks all over the field like
- 46:25Speaker 1: Miles Garrett and the run game with Chubb and all
- 46:28Speaker 1: these you know, all these different stars. I feel like,
- 46:31Speaker 1: talent wise, they're not anywhere near where they're going to
- 46:35Speaker 1: be two three years from now in Washington. They're only
- 46:37Speaker 1: going to get better with what they put around Jayden Daniels,
- 46:40Speaker 1: and they've proven themselves to be excellent coaches. Can I
- 46:43Speaker 1: give you one another saucing nug hare real quick? I
- 46:46Speaker 1: did see a saucing nug and the research packet, but
- 46:49Speaker 1: it was talking about the coaches of all the new
- 46:52Speaker 1: coaches from this last cycle. Uh, the ones that had
- 46:55Speaker 1: previous head coaching experience, not not interim head coaches, but
- 46:59Speaker 1: previous head coaching experience are the ones who are finding
- 47:02Speaker 1: a lot of success. And that is where dan Quinn
- 47:05Speaker 1: would find himself. Jim Harbaugh obviously another one who's found
- 47:08Speaker 1: tremendous success in his second stop, in his yeah, second
- 47:12Speaker 1: NFL stop.
- 47:13Speaker 2: What there was one other one? You remember who it is.
- 47:15Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to go to the research packet on
- 47:16Speaker 1: that if you're gonna use a saucy nug, you.
- 47:18Speaker 4: Have to know it is.
- 47:21Speaker 2: Morris. Raheem. Morris is the third one.
- 47:22Speaker 6: Thank you Flkins.
- 47:23Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, so yeah, there you go. It's a still
- 47:27Speaker 2: a saucy nug. Though I like that nug it is,
- 47:30Speaker 2: it is not as much.
- 47:31Speaker 5: You can't say as much for the Dallas Cowboys and
- 47:34Speaker 5: Mike McCarthy on head coaching stop number two and perhaps.
- 47:38Speaker 1: So he wasn't hired in this last cycle. So that's
- 47:40Speaker 1: why not in a lot of cycle. It's still a
- 47:42Speaker 1: saucy nug. You tried to You tried to sauce that
- 47:45Speaker 1: nug and you couldn't do it. Let's go to the
- 47:46Speaker 1: next one here, New England, Tennessee.
- 47:50Speaker 4: Uh.
- 47:51Speaker 5: Look, I mean the play that Drake made, made to
- 47:54Speaker 5: send that thing to overtime is what again gives you
- 47:57Speaker 5: hope and optimism moving forward. But then you still get
- 48:02Speaker 5: the realization that this is a player that's still got
- 48:04Speaker 5: a long way to go, right with the unfortunate decision
- 48:06Speaker 5: he makes to throw the interception, you know, following that,
- 48:09Speaker 5: So I think again I come away still feeling encouraged
- 48:14Speaker 5: with what the Patriots can find with Drake May, there's
- 48:17Speaker 5: still a lot more work to be done to continue
- 48:21Speaker 5: to bolster that roster around him, especially those guys in
- 48:24Speaker 5: front of him. You know, the the New England Patriots
- 48:27Speaker 5: quarterbacks are one of the most frequently hit and pressured
- 48:31Speaker 5: in the league, and obviously the guys in front are
- 48:34Speaker 5: a big piece of that. Getting the ball out is
- 48:36Speaker 5: another piece too that we can get into. But overall,
- 48:39Speaker 5: congratulations to the Titans are finding a way to win
- 48:41Speaker 5: a game. But I think both these both these franchises
- 48:43Speaker 5: still have a long way to go.
- 48:45Speaker 1: I will say, talking about Drake May and New England,
- 48:49Speaker 1: if this was you know, a mile, which is four
- 48:51Speaker 1: trips around the track, I would say Drake May is
- 48:55Speaker 1: a lot closer to getting to the finish line than
- 48:58Speaker 1: the New England.
- 48:59Speaker 2: Patriots supporting group is.
- 49:00Speaker 1: To get into the finish line, they need to catch
- 49:03Speaker 1: up on the lead lap I think he is. I
- 49:05Speaker 1: think I think he is far exceeding what's around him,
- 49:08Speaker 1: you know, where whereas a lot of times you're like, okay,
- 49:10Speaker 1: we got we got a lot of pieces in here,
- 49:12Speaker 1: and it's just we got to be patient with the
- 49:13Speaker 1: quarterbacks so he can catch up to the team forget
- 49:15Speaker 1: that New England. The rest of the team's got to
- 49:16Speaker 1: catch up to him. He's I think his development is
- 49:19Speaker 1: off to a really strong start. He had two scrambles
- 49:22Speaker 1: third and sixteen, third and six that he converted over
- 49:25Speaker 1: nine yards rushing. I mean, he was He was excellent
- 49:27Speaker 1: with his legs making plays and made some big time
- 49:29Speaker 1: throws and you're gonna have to live with some of
- 49:31Speaker 1: the you know, some of the rookie mistakes that come
- 49:33Speaker 1: along with that. But I think he's ahead of schedule.
- 49:36Speaker 1: I think the rest of the group around him is
- 49:38Speaker 1: behind schedule, so that'll be something to keep an eye on.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Jeffrey Simmons, by the way, I'm excited to see him
- 49:43Speaker 1: in person again next week. He's one of my favorite
- 49:45Speaker 1: players to watch. He was awesome in this game. He
- 49:47Speaker 1: had nine pressures. All right, let's let's get to the game.
- 49:50Speaker 1: Game I was at, which is the Chargers and the Browns.
- 49:54Speaker 1: First thought on that one, gosh, you know, as someone
- 49:57Speaker 1: who calls the games, I hope the Chargers can hold
- 49:59Speaker 1: on to Jesse Minner as long as they can.
- 50:01Speaker 2: I don't know if they're going to be able to.
- 50:03Speaker 2: He is a good football coach.
- 50:05Speaker 1: And people keep asking me, like, this is number one
- 50:08Speaker 1: scoring defense in the NFL.
- 50:10Speaker 2: What is it about it?
- 50:10Speaker 4: Why is it so great?
- 50:11Speaker 1: And I'm like, well, it's pretty simple. They don't bust
- 50:14Speaker 1: coverages and they don't miss tackles, and they play hard
- 50:17Speaker 1: and that's that's kind of it. They're playing with two
- 50:20Speaker 1: fifth round rookie corners. Tar Heek Still had an interception
- 50:23Speaker 1: and a tip that led to another interception. Cam Hart
- 50:27Speaker 1: is playing great on the other side. These guys have
- 50:29Speaker 1: been forced into action due to injuries. Tu Ley Twoy
- 50:32Speaker 1: Polo two. You know as a young player, he had
- 50:35Speaker 1: the two and a half sacks in this game. He
- 50:37Speaker 1: was excellent. The defense is very well coached and is
- 50:41Speaker 1: a good unit. And then offensively RTT we've talked about
- 50:45Speaker 1: who's going to kind of emerge as Herbert's guy all
- 50:47Speaker 1: these new pieces. Quentin Johnston year two, don't give up
- 50:50Speaker 1: on him. He has one hundred yard game, a big
- 50:53Speaker 1: sixty six yard touchdown on a blown coverage by Denzel Award.
- 50:56Speaker 1: And then McConkey is just getting better and better every
- 50:59Speaker 1: week and tried to find another comp form because I
- 51:02Speaker 1: know what the criticism is coming with it.
- 51:04Speaker 2: He looks just like Julian Edelman. I don't know how.
- 51:07Speaker 1: I don't know how to not say it. I can't
- 51:09Speaker 1: unsee it when I see him out there, just how
- 51:11Speaker 1: quick he is and his transition once he catches the
- 51:14Speaker 1: ball to get up the field, something that Edelman was
- 51:16Speaker 1: so good at. And Herbert's got a lot of confidence
- 51:19Speaker 1: in that young dude, you know, just.
- 51:21Speaker 5: Not quite as thick as Edelman was, right, Like, that's
- 51:24Speaker 5: the only.
- 51:25Speaker 6: Like just to know.
- 51:25Speaker 2: But when you stand next to him, he's he's not heiny,
- 51:29Speaker 2: He's not.
- 51:30Speaker 4: He's not.
- 51:30Speaker 6: I agree with you on that.
- 51:31Speaker 5: Yeah, But Edelman was so compact, and I mean, yeah,
- 51:37Speaker 5: I think he I think that's a great comp I
- 51:39Speaker 5: mean the way that he works in the in you know,
- 51:41Speaker 5: in some of those you know, those option routes and
- 51:43Speaker 5: finding finding spots to get open. I think Lad McConkie's
- 51:45Speaker 5: going to be a terrific player, certainly in this league.
- 51:48Speaker 5: And then yeah, I to go back to your point
- 51:50Speaker 5: on Jesse Mentor. I remember meeting him, you know, at
- 51:52Speaker 5: the Rose Bowl last year and just talked to him
- 51:54Speaker 5: about his defense and just had such a clarity of thought,
- 51:58Speaker 5: right and a clarity of you know, of how he
- 52:00Speaker 5: wanted his guys to execute, Like there was just such
- 52:03Speaker 5: a confidence in the scheme and they're so well coached, right,
- 52:06Speaker 5: and he's got wrinkles, sure, but I mean you you
- 52:09Speaker 5: nailed it right. They know where they're supposed to be
- 52:11Speaker 5: and they make the plays that are there for them
- 52:13Speaker 5: to make, and that I guess more than half.
- 52:16Speaker 1: The battle at this point. You don't miss a ton
- 52:19Speaker 1: of tackles. There no guys running on and off the field.
- 52:22Speaker 1: There's no I didn't get the call like, it's just
- 52:24Speaker 1: very calm, and I think that's a coaching thing.
- 52:27Speaker 5: I also feel like with the Chargers that this was
- 52:30Speaker 5: a defense we talked about a lot. DJ is having
- 52:32Speaker 5: star power right with Joey Bosa, with Khalil Mack, with
- 52:35Speaker 5: Derwam James when Matt Yeah, and now it's like they're
- 52:40Speaker 5: more valuable as to some of all the parts than
- 52:42Speaker 5: just star power here and star power there.
- 52:44Speaker 6: And I think that says a lot too.
- 52:46Speaker 1: Yep, plan as one, no question, all right, this was
- 52:49Speaker 1: a fun episode today covered a lot of ground. Had
- 52:52Speaker 1: some shake up there in the coaching department. Glad we
- 52:54Speaker 1: got to hit on that as well as cover a
- 52:56Speaker 1: bunch of these games. We'll be back tomorrow. Rookie Draft
- 52:59Speaker 1: coming your way. We appreciate you, we'll see you next time.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Right here on, move the sticks, m
