- 0:02Hey, welcome to the City Point Church podcast.
- 0:04Thanks for joining us. Every day is an opportunity to
- 0:07take hold of. So we hope this message inspires
- 0:10you and build your faith, but it helps you have more of a God
- 0:13perspective for your day. Enjoy.
- 0:17I know what you are feeling because I'm feeling it too.
- 0:21There's been multiple opportunities in this service
- 0:23already to respond, am I right? This is a service of activation.
- 0:28Maybe just tell the person beside you, Are you ready to
- 0:30respond? Justine, when she let out in
- 0:40that beautiful song of consecration a moment where we
- 0:45got real with the Lord and said, I'm desperate for you and you
- 0:49are the only thing I'm seeking could have said at that moment,
- 0:53come on everybody, shoes off. This place is holy ground
- 0:57because the Spirit of the Lord is here.
- 1:01And when Pastor Rach came and LED, she could have literally
- 1:06finished the meeting there for it warranted a response from us
- 1:14that each and every one of us are called to serve all of us.
- 1:21There are no spectators in this building today, I promise you,
- 1:26although they're wonderful to attend, today is not a
- 1:29basketball game. I as a church do not want to be
- 1:37deemed as a sport because we're only as good as our last game.
- 1:45We as a church are participants and partners with God with what
- 1:51He wants to do. And I can tell you now that God
- 1:55is not finished with us yet. He is not finished with our
- 2:00great nation of Australia. For it is a prophetic
- 2:04declaration over us that we are the great Southland of the Holy
- 2:07Spirit. And so Pastor Nicole could have
- 2:10also literally had us respond and say I will commit.
- 2:17But I promise you, if you had any of those moments this
- 2:20morning and you were like, I wish they would have just called
- 2:22us forward, there will be an opportunity yet because you and
- 2:30I were not supposed to sit down. I am tempted to leave you there.
- 2:35Tempted. But I too have also got a little
- 2:38bit of a thing happening on the side of my back right here.
- 2:42So I have grace because that is the Lord grace and truth
- 2:45together. So you may take your seats this
- 2:48morning, but don't get comfortable.
- 2:53Don't get comfortable this morning.
- 2:56Because I can tell you this morning warrants a response.
- 3:01It warrants a response not just from me, not just from the team,
- 3:07not just those who have passed it before their name, not just
- 3:11for the young people because they've got energy and maybe
- 3:15time, but it warrants a response for each and every one of us.
- 3:21You were born for such a time as this.
- 3:24You are not an accident. And somebody needs to hear that
- 3:27this morning. You were never an accident.
- 3:31You were formed and planned by God for this moment in history.
- 3:38You are here for a purpose. I am here for a purpose.
- 3:45And what I want this morning for you to catch, as I share this
- 3:49morning, just for a few minutes, what God is about to do in our
- 3:54region through this church. I want you to think for a
- 3:59moment, is there a possibility he's going to use me, not just
- 4:07me, but you. I wonder if even before we start
- 4:13this, this morning, if you'd be brave enough, whether it be out
- 4:18loud or under your breath to say, God, are you seriously
- 4:23calling me? Are you commissioning me?
- 4:30Is there a purpose for me in this plan?
- 4:35Would you right now, just right where you are, Why don't you
- 4:37close your eyes? I want you to put the challenge
- 4:42out. If you're brave this morning and
- 4:45ask the question of the Lord, have you called me?
- 4:51Lord, have you called me? Am IA part of this plan?
- 5:07I could answer this for you this morning with a simple yes,
- 5:12because every single person on planet earth has been created
- 5:16for a purpose and not just to exist, but to leave a mark on
- 5:23this world for Jesus to leave a legacy of people who follow in
- 5:30the faith because of your faith. But I wanted to create a moment
- 5:36this morning before I started to allow you to ask the Holy Spirit
- 5:40because I trust the Holy Spirit speaks and He can speak to you.
- 5:46And way better than hearing words from me this morning that
- 5:49might lift your spirit or put a fire in your belly.
- 5:53One word from the Lord and you'd be unstoppable.
- 6:00So I wonder if for those of you who take notes, if right at the
- 6:05beginning, your notes before my title comes out, would you ask
- 6:10that question in your notes? God, what part of this plan is
- 6:14for me? Would you put it up there and
- 6:18seek the Lord over that this week?
- 6:21Because there is something for us to do as a church and I can
- 6:25tell you now we've all got to be part of it for us to see it come
- 6:29to pass. Church, we are not here by
- 6:33accident. God has positioned this church,
- 6:37City Point, Caboolture and the churches that we have impact
- 6:42over City Point Bribie. He has placed us here in this
- 6:46city for a 'cause that is greater than comfort.
- 6:51You and I have been called to bring spiritual and social
- 6:56transformation to this city. Not someday, not in a few years
- 7:03time, not just for the young ones when they grow up and they
- 7:07rise up and they do something. But right now, say right now,
- 7:13right now is our time in our city.
- 7:16And God has given us a cause and it that's in this time that we
- 7:22the church say we the church are to partner with him to see it
- 7:29become a reality. There is a cause burning in the
- 7:34heart of God for this city. Does anybody else here this
- 7:38morning believe that God is for our city?
- 7:43Does anybody else here believe that God has a plan for this
- 7:47city? Now, here's a really honest
- 7:50question. Do you think we are living in
- 7:53the reality of it today or is there still work to do?
- 8:00There is still work to do. We are not called to be
- 8:04spectators. In his story that he is writing
- 8:07for this city. We, you and I say I, I have been
- 8:13called to pass Patna in the mission that God has entrusted,
- 8:18say entrusted me, say entrusted me, He's entrusted you with for
- 8:25this sitting. And God today is asking you and
- 8:30I, every single one of us, if you, if I would put skin in the
- 8:36game for his purpose, for this sitting skin in the game.
- 8:44I'm going to read this morning or I'm going to share this
- 8:46morning from a passage of scripture in one Samuel 17.
- 8:52And in this chapter, it is a story about a young boy called
- 8:57David. He's just a youth.
- 8:59In actual fact, he's a shepherd. I was pondering on this this
- 9:02morning because I like to put myself actually into the Bible
- 9:05story and either create an additional character called Mel,
- 9:08Mel and David, or sometimes try to picture what it would be
- 9:12like. But that's a bit awkward because
- 9:13I am not a David. But I do have a fairly good and
- 9:18vivid imagination. And so I was thinking about
- 9:20this, and I'm wondering today why we don't have Staffs,
- 9:25shepherd Staffs. Do you know when Joshua said,
- 9:28like Pastor Rachel said today, As for me, in my house, we will
- 9:32serve the Lord. He would have had a staff.
- 9:35So when he drew a line in the sand, he could literally draw a
- 9:38line in the sand. I love this literal stuff.
- 9:42I would be a shepherd and have a shepherd's staff just so that I
- 9:46could go here and no father to the enemy.
- 9:52Does anybody else feel like that sometimes where you go, there it
- 9:55is. Don't try and cross it.
- 9:58This land, this space, this thing that we have been called
- 10:03to possess, we are going to do spiritual warfare in and we're
- 10:07going to see victory. And the enemy can come this far
- 10:11and no father. Come on, Who else wants a staff?
- 10:14Staffs for everybody in church next week now this young man
- 10:20David, he, he's just a shepherd. His job, his day job is not at
- 10:28the KFC drive through. It's looking after the animals
- 10:32before they get there. But it's an important job
- 10:40because the quality of the meat is important.
- 10:43We care about this today, right? So his job is to look after
- 10:49this. And of course, in this space,
- 10:52nobody would have called him a warrior.
- 10:54Nobody would have called him a soldier, right?
- 10:57But in this particular chapter, in chapter 17 in Juan Samuel,
- 11:03David's father sends him to the battle lines where the rest of
- 11:06the brothers are now. Daniel is the runt of the
- 11:09family. He's the youngest.
- 11:10Anybody any other runts in the family here?
- 11:13I'm not. I'm the eldest.
- 11:14So I am about to be heard in the Bible as the bossy older
- 11:18brother. All right.
- 11:20In this particular passage, he gets sent to the battle lines
- 11:25with food just to give them food because the battle has been
- 11:30going on a long time, 40 days, in fact, right now.
- 11:34I think it's interesting that the Bible calls it a battle
- 11:37because in reality it's a camp and quite an uneventful game.
- 11:42It doesn't look like youth camp. There are no young men and women
- 11:48with a fire in their belly who say we can take this city in
- 11:53this camp. There is a lot of people sitting
- 11:56around campfires having a whinge about the other camp and about
- 12:03the terrible things that are happening in the life of that
- 12:05camp. And they are in actual fact,
- 12:08being influenced and impacted by the other camp.
- 12:13It's a significant story. But we come down to this
- 12:17particular part of the story where David gets into camp.
- 12:20He actually hears this big dude. His name is Goliath.
- 12:24If you were here in our Christmas season, you would have
- 12:26seen our epically amazing Christmas trees on the edge of
- 12:30the stage. They were Goliath sized
- 12:32Christmas trees. Gives you a little bit of
- 12:36context with his helmet and all, he would have got pretty close
- 12:39to the top. But he wasn't just triangle
- 12:42shaped. He was built like a brick.
- 12:44All right. When the when you read this
- 12:46passage, it describes what his armor had to be like, what his
- 12:50spear had to be like, the weight of them.
- 12:52It was significant. And so the Israelites, the camp
- 12:57that David is going to, because his brothers are part of this
- 13:00army, are listening to the taunts of this giant and are
- 13:07sitting around the camp immobilized.
- 13:13They are afraid. And David rolls into camp, and I
- 13:16love this because he's just such a great young punk.
- 13:19He says things like, has anybody heard what he's saying?
- 13:26Who's is anybody going to do something about it, send
- 13:29somebody out who's going to do something about this and his Big
- 13:34Brother. So this would have been my role.
- 13:36OK. His Big Brother comes out and
- 13:38goes, would you shut up? Who are you?
- 13:42I know exactly who you are and where you should be.
- 13:47Go back and look after your little sheep.
- 13:50That's all you're good for. All right, Go back.
- 13:54You have no business getting involved in this.
- 13:59And David says this statement, well, I'd love, I actually love
- 14:02it because it is not a complete statement by just saying, is
- 14:05there not a 'cause he actually says, what have I done now?
- 14:11Typical little brother statement.
- 14:13What have I done now to the Big Brother?
- 14:15And then then he goes like a receiving interaction with the
- 14:20brother and then a beautiful big spiritual slap.
- 14:23Is there not a cause? What David is actually saying
- 14:28is, is there not a man who can see what is before us and whom
- 14:33we stand with? Is there not something greater
- 14:38than this thing that is taunting?
- 14:41Is there not ground and land to possess over here?
- 14:46Has the Lord not said this is the great S land of the Holy
- 14:50Spirit? Then why do we sit here and go,
- 14:53SH, I know exactly who you are, Go back to KFC, serve your
- 15:00chicken. This, you're out of place.
- 15:07You're not a warrior, you're a shepherd.
- 15:11But David asks this poignant question.
- 15:14He says, is there not a 'cause now I need to tell you, church,
- 15:21that this scenario we don't see often, that I, I haven't
- 15:26actually witnessed a David and Goliath slingshot moment in my
- 15:30life in the last 44 years, but I see the scenario every day over
- 15:36and over and over and over and over.
- 15:39There are modern day Goliaths that you encounter, that I
- 15:43encounter, maybe you even experience every single day of
- 15:47the week. And it echoes this same story.
- 15:52They are circumstances that taunt God's people today, and
- 15:59they leave us immobilized and they have us sitting around in
- 16:05circles in the cafe or at camp talking about consumed by these
- 16:14Goliaths. Can I just give you a few?
- 16:18Maybe you have seen these in our city.
- 16:21Maybe you're experiencing them. I want to tell you this morning
- 16:25what God says about them and your part to play in it.
- 16:29Here are some of the modern Goliaths, the Goliath of fear.
- 16:34Fear that whispers you are not enough, you cannot overcome, you
- 16:40cannot win, and God will not come through.
- 16:44We see the Goliath of anxiety and mental health and exhaustion
- 16:49in this region, and it says that the constant mental war thou
- 16:55shouts louder than God's peace. This is a lie.
- 17:00It is a false lie, but it stands in our region like a Goliath.
- 17:07We have the Goliath of family breakdown that says the enemy is
- 17:11taunting people with generational patterns.
- 17:16It's taunting that division in a family unit is OK and that
- 17:22hopelessness in homes is normal. Another modern Goliath is the
- 17:29Goliath of addiction, that substances and screens and
- 17:34habits and cycles that say you will never be free.
- 17:40Come on this morning, let's get real.
- 17:44These Goliaths are not just found in our city.
- 17:47They're often found in our lives and many of you this morning as
- 17:51I am even saying them out might go.
- 17:53That's my Goliath has been taught in me for long enough.
- 17:59I wonder if you were this morning as I go through them
- 18:02would have the courage to say is there not a cause, A cause great
- 18:08enough to face Goliath? The Goliath of financial
- 18:13pressure, bills, debt, rising costs, yelling God cannot
- 18:19provide, you must provide. The Goliath of isolation and
- 18:25loneliness, the lie that says no one sees you, no one cares, you
- 18:33are on your own. The Goliath of identity
- 18:37confusion that has a generation hearing daily you are whatever
- 18:43culture says you are. God doesn't define you.
- 18:49The Goliath of cultural pressure, a world that mocks
- 18:53holiness, purity, conviction, taunting believers, saying why
- 19:00stand for God? Just blend in.
- 19:06The Goliath of broken dreams, the ache of disappointment,
- 19:11saying it's too late, nothing will ever change.
- 19:17And the Goliath of sickness, oh, this is a one that loves to be
- 19:21glorified. And it taunts and it shouts.
- 19:24It says diagnosis and uncertainty shout louder than
- 19:29the promises of God. Come on.
- 19:33The Goliath of shame and past mistakes.
- 19:36The voice that says you can't be used, God can't redeem that.
- 19:42The Goliath of spiritual apathy, the subtle taunt that says just
- 19:46stay comfortable, don't give, don't serve, don't grow, don't
- 19:55change, stay comfortable. 13 The Goliath attacking our children
- 20:02and our young people. This huge.
- 20:05Dark influences, peer pressure, screens and confusion.
- 20:09Mocking God's plan for the next generation to carry the Spirit
- 20:15of God across this nation #14 the the Goliath of division.
- 20:22This one loves to taunt the church.
- 20:24Conflict, offense, church hurt and relational fractures.
- 20:30Saying God's people can never walk in unity.
- 20:35It's a lie. I wonder if you believe that
- 20:40this morning. It's a lie.
- 20:43God's people can can we can, we can walk in unity.
- 20:51The Goliath over our city, the brokenness, addiction, violence
- 20:56and poverty and spiritual darkness that taunts us.
- 21:01And here's what this Goliath shouts.
- 21:04The church can't change anything.
- 21:07The city is too far gone. I can tell you now, church, that
- 21:12our God is greater than any Goliath.
- 21:16And you know, he partners with us like he partnered with a
- 21:22teenage boy to deal with Goliaths.
- 21:26That means he partners with you and I.
- 21:29He didn't partner with a seasoned soldier.
- 21:32He partnered with a boy who was willing and out of fire in his
- 21:37belly in the faith to go, my God is bigger than this giant.
- 21:40He didn't not see the giant. He didn't not hear the taunt,
- 21:47but he had the fire in his belly enough to say, Is there not a
- 21:51cause like Goliath? These situations mock God's
- 21:56power, imitate God's people, paralyze believers, defy God's
- 22:01promises, and challenge the identity of the church.
- 22:06But today, with my hypothetical staff, I draw a line in the
- 22:11sand. And I say for us, As for me and
- 22:14my house, we're going to do something different.
- 22:19We're going to serve the Lord, say we're going to serve the
- 22:24Lord. And when we do, it's going to
- 22:30actually have an impact. And we're going to see things in
- 22:33our city that is not happening in other cities around
- 22:37Australia. Does anybody here have the faith
- 22:42to believe that we could be the epicenter for revival in this
- 22:47nation? Not so that we hit the news, but
- 22:52that so our city comes to Jesus and our discipled and have an
- 22:57impact all over this world. I've got the faith for it.
- 23:04I live for it. It's the reason I get up in the
- 23:07morning. It's the reasons you came in to
- 23:09open doors today. I know you thought it was air
- 23:13con in relief of the heat, but I promise you there is a fire in
- 23:18here that is greater than the heat outside and I pray this
- 23:25morning that it touches you, even if just a little bit sets
- 23:30you on fire. I can't sit still, I can't
- 23:35remain comfortable because there are Goliaths who are taunting,
- 23:42taunting the next generation, taunting our city, taunting your
- 23:46workmates, taunting the people in your schools.
- 23:52And all it takes is a young man who says, is there not a cause?
- 23:55Or a young woman, a man or a woman who says, is there not a
- 23:59cause? Do you know the same spirit that
- 24:02empowered David dwells in us, in the church today.
- 24:05He dwells in you. That is what His Word says.
- 24:09And these Goliaths only fall when God's people stop standing
- 24:14on the sidelines and they ask the same question asked.
- 24:18Is there not a 'cause this question by David was on a
- 24:24battlefield long before he ever became a king?
- 24:28This. This wasn't poetic, it wasn't
- 24:31reflective, and it wasn't gentle.
- 24:35This was confrontational. It's confrontational.
- 24:38If you go away after the service today and read through that
- 24:41chapter so that you get the fullness to what is happening in
- 24:44this book, you will see it as a confrontation to the people
- 24:49sitting around him. David doesn't just say it once.
- 24:54He leaves the conversation with his brother and he goes and
- 24:56continues to have the conversation with others in the
- 24:59camp. And I believe the Holy Spirit is
- 25:01asking the same question of us in this church today.
- 25:06Is there not a cause? Because God has placed us in
- 25:09this region not by accident, but for a reason, for a purpose.
- 25:14He has a plan and that plan, that purpose is to see spiritual
- 25:21and social transformation for this whole region.
- 25:25That it would be unrecognizable in the statistics when you do
- 25:30your senses that it will not have the same statistics.
- 25:34I am tired of watching and reading the same statistics.
- 25:39I am tired of watching some of the infrastructure in our area
- 25:43have to grow larger and larger and larger to support Goliaths.
- 25:51And so church, I ask you today, would you get ready to respond?
- 25:56Because we're going to respond because God is calling each and
- 26:01everyone of us to be part of this.
- 26:03Is there not a 'cause it's not a slogan.
- 26:06This is a mandate for you and I. It is our mission walking
- 26:10forward from today. And it is a cause worth living
- 26:14for. That is the the the title of my
- 26:18message this morning for those of you who love to take notes is
- 26:21skin in the game. This is our part to play in this
- 26:26'cause that God has for us at his skin in the game.
- 26:29Why does it require skin in the game from you and I?
- 26:33Number one, it's very simple. God never moves without
- 26:39partnership. He never moves without your eye.
- 26:45He moves with us. From the beginning, God has
- 26:48invited His people into mission. He could have saved Noah and his
- 26:54family, but he asked him to build an ark.
- 26:59He could have delivered Israel without Moses.
- 27:02Truthfully, he could have just smited it.
- 27:06Wait, right? But he didn't.
- 27:09He asked Moses to confront Pharaoh.
- 27:13Jesus could have fed 5000 people without anybody's help.
- 27:20But he asked the disciples, what do you have?
- 27:25What do you have, Dan? What do you have, Wayne?
- 27:28That's what he asked. Now I have a full confidence.
- 27:31I know how many people I can feed on my own.
- 27:34That's pretty good. But he didn't do it alone.
- 27:40He literally said to his disciples, what do you have?
- 27:46Elijah said to the woman with the jars.
- 27:48How many jars do you have? Now go and get them from others.
- 27:53He partners with us. Why?
- 27:56Because relationship always requires partnership.
- 28:01We use the church. We love God's promises.
- 28:03We love to stand on them, We love to clean them.
- 28:05But we often hesitate at God's processes, but the Kingdom of
- 28:12God advances through people who say God whatever you ask I'm in.
- 28:20I wonder if that could be the cry of your spirit even right
- 28:23now in this message. OK go on.
- 28:26I'm in and Church of our vision is truly to bring social and
- 28:33spiritual transformation to our city.
- 28:36It's not going to be fulfilled by good ideas, good ideals, or
- 28:42good intentions. It's also not going to be
- 28:49completed by gathering in this beautiful place and sitting.
- 28:54It's going to require an active and alive a serving,
- 28:59participating with God group of people who decide this is the
- 29:05cause. And He's called me to it.
- 29:08It will be fulfilled by people who carry the weight, who show
- 29:12up, who serve, who sacrifice, who say God, you can use me.
- 29:18That's skin in the game. And if God always invites us
- 29:23into partnership, then what he, what does he have if that's what
- 29:29he always does first? Why does He do this before he
- 29:33sends us? What does he do before he sends
- 29:38us? Has anybody figured it out?
- 29:42Who's done anything at all significant for the Lord?
- 29:45Who has witnessed to somebody and seen them come to Christ?
- 29:52Incredible. Who has had the opportunity to
- 29:55lay hands on somebody and see them recover from sickness?
- 30:00Come on, these things that we do when God partners with us
- 30:06require something to happen first.
- 30:10Say first, God is a God of order.
- 30:13He's not a God of chaos. I promise you that.
- 30:17When we say we just want to invite the Holy Spirit to come
- 30:19and do exactly what He's going to do, I promise you He's going
- 30:21to do exactly what He wants to do because he's not me.
- 30:27If we really want the Holy Spirit to come and do exactly
- 30:30what He wants to do, it starts at a place.
- 30:33It starts at a place of consecration.
- 30:37And so if God always invites us into partnership, then what He
- 30:43does before he sends us, before advancement, before we take
- 30:51ground, before there is a breakthrough, He brings each and
- 30:55every one of us to a place of consecration.
- 31:01And I want to talk about this a little bit this morning because
- 31:04if we are truly going to have an impact in our region, and if
- 31:09we're going to grab a hold of the cause, don't be surprised if
- 31:13God calls you first to consecrate your life to Him, not
- 31:20just in salvation, but a laying down of everything.
- 31:24Because before advancement comes consecration.
- 31:27I want to talk a minute, just for a minute, about one of the
- 31:29strongest partnership moments in Scripture.
- 31:32It's in Joshua 5. It's quite a wild story, right?
- 31:38Joshua and the Israelite camp have travelled their distance,
- 31:43their 40 years in the in the desert, and they have finally
- 31:47crossed and they are standing in the promised land.
- 31:51But before them stands Jericho, a fortified city, another
- 31:58external expression of Goliath. All right.
- 32:03And they're standing right here in Joshua 5, right?
- 32:08Israel's crossed the door, and they're standing in their
- 32:10promise, but they don't have full access to it.
- 32:15There is a fortified giant in front of them.
- 32:18Jericho is ahead. Victory is close, And God says
- 32:22something completely unexpected to Joshua.
- 32:27You ready? It's not charge and it happens
- 32:33before. Walk around the city and I'll
- 32:36cause it to fall. A faith journey, he says.
- 32:43It's a skin in the game moment. You ready?
- 32:45He says. Circumcise the men again.
- 32:52I'm not trying to be crass. I promise you there is something
- 32:58significant to be found here for you and I.
- 33:00This is, it's not just the weird gore and the stuff in the Bible
- 33:04that we go, oh, that's not for me.
- 33:06Everything is there for a reason and it teaches you and I
- 33:09something. He says.
- 33:11God says to Joshua, circumcise the men again.
- 33:15They are standing in front of a fortified city that literally is
- 33:20a threat to the nation. God says, circumcise the men
- 33:23again. This was painful.
- 33:25This was vulnerable and it was costly.
- 33:31Now this had been done. The reason why it says again,
- 33:34this had been done many, many years before.
- 33:38This command was given to Moses in the desert and the men who
- 33:41had left Egypt. This had taken place.
- 33:44But for those who had been born along the way, those who had
- 33:50come upon come into the journey and had learnt from the men
- 33:54before them, this had not been done.
- 33:58And so God asked for consecration to deal with what
- 34:02had come before, before He advanced them forward.
- 34:07Some of you today are wondering why that door is not swung wide
- 34:13open before you and ground has not been able to put been
- 34:16possessed. But He's been calling you to
- 34:18consecration. First, allow me to deal with
- 34:22what has come before. I know that you love me, and I
- 34:26know that you've accepted me, and I know that I am your Lord
- 34:29and Savior, but I actually want to do in you a work that will
- 34:32deal with you, deal in you what has come before, so that when
- 34:37you take on the promises, you don't take the old man with you.
- 34:42And so he brings us to this place of consecration.
- 34:46This particular thing would have put them at great risk, for they
- 34:49could not fight or defend themselves for a series of time.
- 34:53It's a vulnerable place, and yet it is a journey God takes each
- 34:57and every one of us on if we're going to possess what He wants
- 35:02for us in the future, if we're going to take that ground, why
- 35:07would God do that? Why?
- 35:09Because God refuses to advance a people who are not consecrated
- 35:13to Him. He didn't want warriors with
- 35:18swords in that moment. He wanted followers with
- 35:21surrender. Circumcision in Scripture is so
- 35:27significant for you and I today. Circumcision in Scripture is so
- 35:34significant because it actually represents covenant.
- 35:38It is a marking, a setting apart and a declaration that I fully
- 35:44belong to the Lord. We fully belong to the Lord in
- 35:49this passage. That's exactly what these men
- 35:51were declaring. We fully belong to the Lord.
- 35:57No covenant, no conquest, no consecration, no Jericho, no
- 36:04skin in the game, no promised Land.
- 36:08It's significant. God calls each and every one of
- 36:12us into this consecration time, this consecrated space, this
- 36:18consecrated attitude in covenant with Him so that we are poised
- 36:25and ready to possess all that He has for US.
- 36:29Church. If we want to see spiritual and
- 36:31social transformation in our city, if we want to see soul
- 36:35saved, families restored and together, if we want to see
- 36:40young people disciple, addiction broken, and the name of Jesus
- 36:45Christ lifted up in this city all over this region, then it
- 36:50starts with us and it starts in a place of consecration.
- 36:53And God is asking us today, will you be consecrated?
- 36:58Will you be marked by me? Will you let me prepare you
- 37:04before I send you? If consecration comes before
- 37:11conquest, then what does ownership look like for us
- 37:17facing a giant or a fortified city in front of us?
- 37:23David exhibited this in the passage where he says, is this
- 37:26not a cause? David owned the situation and he
- 37:30made it his own. He made it his responsibility.
- 37:35I believe for the last number of years, God has been calling men
- 37:39and women all over this house and in this region and been
- 37:44asking them to take responsibility for this region.
- 37:50And it's not just leaders and it's not just people in ministry
- 37:53right now. I honestly believe that that
- 37:56call has been going out by the Holy Spirit for about 5 years
- 37:59now and that seeds have been planting and been planted in
- 38:03people's spirit. And he's been fanning that flame
- 38:06and saying, come on, come on, I'm inviting you to partner with
- 38:08this. You're going to see something so
- 38:10extraordinary in your lifetime. But would you come be
- 38:13consecrated before me and then take responsibility for what
- 38:19I've entrusted you with? Don't sit on your hands any
- 38:22longer, but rise up and take responsibility.
- 38:26Because the difference in David's statement compared to
- 38:31the rest of the camp was ownership.
- 38:34When David arrived at the battlefield, he saw the same
- 38:37giant that Israel saw, but he had something different than
- 38:41what they had. He had ownership.
- 38:44Israel said someone else should deal with this, soul should deal
- 38:49with this. David said this is my battle and
- 38:52there is a cause. Israel saw danger, David saw
- 38:56responsibility. Israel said it's not my problem,
- 39:00it's not my season, I'm not equipped.
- 39:04The leaders should handle it, the next generation should
- 39:07handle it. And David says this.
- 39:10Who was this uncircumcised Philistine who defies the armies
- 39:16of the living God? He speaks out who ultimately he
- 39:25stands with, Who is partnered with him, who he is consecrated
- 39:30to? Who's this uncircumcised
- 39:34Philistine? Who is this Goliath that taunts?
- 39:39I am in covenant with the Lord. I am in partnership with the
- 39:44Lord and he will go with me. David invoked covenant, the mark
- 39:51of ownership. He understood God is with me, so
- 39:54I'm stepping in. And so David when moved.
- 39:58So when David moved, heaven moved.
- 40:01When David stepped forward, God stepped in in the most unlikely
- 40:05ways, but that's exactly how God does it so that he gets the
- 40:08glory church. The difference between passive
- 40:11Christianity. And a transformer.
- 40:14Transformer can't even say it. Transformational Christianity is
- 40:19very, very simple. It's ownership.
- 40:24We say, I will take responsibility.
- 40:29When we, the church, carry ownership, revival can break
- 40:33out. When we, the church, carry
- 40:36ownership, this city gets transformed.
- 40:40When we, the church, carry ownership, giants in this region
- 40:45get slain. Come on, church.
- 40:48When we, the church, carry ownership, the enemy is defeated
- 40:53here. This is why our vision cannot be
- 40:58something that we admire. It must be something that we
- 41:02carry. We exist to bring spiritual and
- 41:08social transformation to the city.
- 41:12I wonder if you would say it with me this this morning.
- 41:14I exist to bring spiritual and social transformation to the
- 41:24city. Let's say it again, I exist to
- 41:28bring spiritual and social transformation to the city.
- 41:36If you are taking responsibility and have ownership for this,
- 41:40this morning, I wonder if you would stand to your feet in this
- 41:42moment and say with me, I exist to bring spiritual and social
- 41:51transformation to this city because church, it requires a
- 41:57response. It requires a response from you
- 42:04and I. It requires a movement, an army
- 42:09of people that exist to bring. That means to serve, that means
- 42:15to be involved in. That means not to sit around and
- 42:18talk about, but engage in and say where do you need me?
- 42:26What do you want of me, Lord? How can I help?
- 42:30Here I am, Lord. Send me in this moment right
- 42:36now. I believe it elicits a response.
- 42:39Not just the standing 2 feet, but before God sends us, before
- 42:45there is ground taken, there is a moment of consecration.
- 42:50And so in this beautiful atmosphere and presence of the
- 42:52Holy Spirit, I wonder if if you truly are saying this morning, I
- 42:59exist. This is my purpose.
- 43:02This is why God has got me here for such a time as this.
- 43:07I will not stand by or sit by and watch my region be torunted
- 43:12by Goliath anymore. I exist to partner with the Lord
- 43:20and just marvel at what He does when in a place of consecration.
- 43:25I give my life to Him wholeheartedly, fully
- 43:30sacrificially and say here I am. Use me.
- 43:34I'm not going to leave this earth and have not partnered
- 43:38with you and seen transformation all over the city, if that is.
