- 1:52Speaker 1: Special guests. Man, the Homie Waino is here. Brother, Welcome, Welcome. Man.
- 1:55Speaker 1: We've been trying to make it happen for a while
- 1:57Speaker 1: for a while, and I gotta I gotta go on
- 1:59Speaker 1: record and apologize for my lateness today. Oh you're good man.
- 2:02Speaker 1: I mean it's cool, but at the same time, it's like, bro,
- 2:04Speaker 1: like I'm the person that, like everybody in my family knows,
- 2:07Speaker 1: I don't play with time and I don't play with
- 2:08Speaker 1: people time. So it's like I just have to stress
- 2:10Speaker 1: that it's all good, man, it's all good. Congrats on
- 2:13Speaker 1: the new podcast. I checked out the first episode and
- 2:18Speaker 1: then I checked out some of the third episode that
- 2:20Speaker 1: just dropped yesterday. What give me like kind of the cause?
- 2:24Speaker 1: You could have went a few different ways with like
- 2:26Speaker 1: coming out of uh doing every day Struggle. I like
- 2:31Speaker 1: the direction you took, but like kind of you know,
- 2:34Speaker 1: introspective conversations. I think that what's dope is like there's
- 2:38Speaker 1: so many gems in these early episodes already just based
- 2:42Speaker 1: on your background and like how you've lived your life
- 2:44Speaker 1: and stuff, But like what made you go that direction?
- 2:46Speaker 1: Not and not kind of go something similar to what
- 2:48Speaker 1: you just came out of, because like, all right, so
- 2:51Speaker 1: every day Struggle. I'm not trying to minimize nobody who's
- 2:54Speaker 1: been a journalist that they haven't like that never was
- 2:56Speaker 1: my dream, right, It never was my dream to be
- 2:59Speaker 1: on a sh show. I never wanted to be on camera,
- 3:01Speaker 1: none of that. It's just like it kind of was
- 3:03Speaker 1: the luck of the draw. I mean, it came at
- 3:05Speaker 1: the right time and once I got into doing Once
- 3:08Speaker 1: I got into doing content, a lot of people don't
- 3:11Speaker 1: know that, Like, Bro, I'm the person that stays at
- 3:13Speaker 1: the barbershop for two hours because we're gonna talk about basketball, right,
- 3:16Speaker 1: We're gonna talk about family. We just that's what we
- 3:18Speaker 1: do in the barbershop. So I was like, I want
- 3:21Speaker 1: to bring my perspective or the things that I'm into
- 3:23Speaker 1: and the things I care about as opposed to just
- 3:25Speaker 1: talking about music all day. Music is my life. It
- 3:27Speaker 1: will never go anywhere, right, And for the people who
- 3:30Speaker 1: are fans of my music commentary, I got shit coming
- 3:33Speaker 1: for that. But for what I wanted to do with
- 3:35Speaker 1: Wayno's with hear Me at Waaenno was basically talk about
- 3:40Speaker 1: what's going on in the world, share my perspective and
- 3:43Speaker 1: share my stories so that people don't people think I
- 3:46Speaker 1: dropped on the earth like when I did every day strougle. Right.
- 3:49Speaker 1: For people who didn't know, like who you were, Like,
- 3:51Speaker 1: they were like, who is this guy? Yeah, But even
- 3:54Speaker 1: even with saying that who is this Guy's like, it's
- 3:57Speaker 1: a story to who this guy? It's not just mut
- 4:00Speaker 1: it just like you know, me being a parent, me
- 4:02Speaker 1: being a husband, me being a father, me being my
- 4:05Speaker 1: mother's son. It's all these different things. That I wanted
- 4:08Speaker 1: to talk to with people so that they could realize
- 4:10Speaker 1: like who I am and feel like look at me
- 4:13Speaker 1: and say, oh shit, like if he did it, I
- 4:15Speaker 1: could do it, or if he did it, like shit,
- 4:18Speaker 1: his story might inspire me where I'm at and make
- 4:21Speaker 1: me want to go on my path and do what
- 4:22Speaker 1: I want to do. So that's why I did it. Yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 1: because I had known you, because we had conversations about
- 4:28Speaker 1: Davies when you were working with Dave, and then I
- 4:31Speaker 1: saw you on There was that weird stretch after Joe
- 4:34Speaker 1: Budden left Every Day Struggle when they had Star on there,
- 4:37Speaker 1: and that shit was whack because it was almost like
- 4:40Speaker 1: they're kind of both the same dude. There was like
- 4:42Speaker 1: no voice or reason in the room. I'll say about
- 4:44Speaker 1: star Bro. A lot of you know, the thing was Start.
- 4:46Speaker 1: A lot of people get Star fla Bro. I when
- 4:48Speaker 1: I was in high school, I used to wake up
- 4:49Speaker 1: early in the morning his Star No. I mean he's
- 4:51Speaker 1: a radio legend. Yeah, But I think the thing is
- 4:53Speaker 1: is that like because even me, I didn't know nothing
- 4:55Speaker 1: about what I'm doing now right I started, But like
- 4:59Speaker 1: Star I love Start for who he is. I loved
- 5:01Speaker 1: him talk crazy but it's not the same platform. It's
- 5:03Speaker 1: not the same platform. And I think when you have
- 5:05Speaker 1: him and academics, it's almost like there's no like waste
- 5:09Speaker 1: of reason in the room. That's really your academics. He
- 5:13Speaker 1: does have voice of reason, but everybody wants to combat it.
- 5:15Speaker 1: I think the thing is is, like, you know, we
- 5:18Speaker 1: accept the message depending on the messaging, and like some
- 5:23Speaker 1: of the messages that he may have, if you be
- 5:25Speaker 1: around him and you sit with him and you know him,
- 5:27Speaker 1: it makes sense. But if you don't know him, you're like,
- 5:30Speaker 1: who the fuck is he to say something? Why should
- 5:32Speaker 1: he have the right to It should be me, or
- 5:34Speaker 1: it should be somebody else, So it should be And
- 5:36Speaker 1: he says a lot of shit. That means he said
- 5:38Speaker 1: a lot of shit that don't make sense to me.
- 5:39Speaker 1: That's my brother, though I'll fuck with no matter what. Yeah,
- 5:42Speaker 1: I think for me, like the academics thing, I think
- 5:45Speaker 1: that I've always had a lot of respect for somebody
- 5:48Speaker 1: who literally built up a platform from their bedroom, right, right,
- 5:51Speaker 1: you know what I mean? And you're right, Like he's
- 5:55Speaker 1: had some wild shit that he'll say, Like, but you
- 5:58Speaker 1: know what I learned from about the wild ship that
- 6:01Speaker 1: he says, you gotta remember, Bro. It's like I always
- 6:03Speaker 1: look at life as like life is a movie and
- 6:06Speaker 1: everybody's playing roles in different roles. A lot of people
- 6:08Speaker 1: don't know the roles that they're playing. He's fully aware
- 6:12Speaker 1: of the role he's playing, and he knows how to
- 6:14Speaker 1: leans into it. He leans into it. He knows how
- 6:16Speaker 1: to entertain within that role. See when I got Bro,
- 6:19Speaker 1: when I got on every day struggle, I never entertained
- 6:21Speaker 1: nobody in my life. Like I come from the hood.
- 6:24Speaker 1: Like I don't say that as a mindset. It's not
- 6:26Speaker 1: place I come from the hood. I come from like
- 6:28Speaker 1: a certain type of background. So I don't understand. I
- 6:31Speaker 1: understand being entertained, but I understand how to entertain. And
- 6:34Speaker 1: that's what I learned from academics, Like you know what
- 6:35Speaker 1: I mean. Like a lot of the silly shit he does,
- 6:38Speaker 1: he'll he'll wrap that around a message. But you you
- 6:40Speaker 1: looking at all the other ship and you by the
- 6:43Speaker 1: time you get to it, you're like, h he kind
- 6:44Speaker 1: of got a point, But fuck him because we don't
- 6:46Speaker 1: like him. That's all it really is. Bro. People just
- 6:48Speaker 1: don't like him, but they don't know him. Yeah, I
- 6:50Speaker 1: think that you know with him. I think there's just
- 6:55Speaker 1: a few things that happened. I think that Freddi Gibbs thing,
- 6:58Speaker 1: Gibbs the foot he should have about to give ship. Bro.
- 7:01Speaker 1: It's like we was a we did Complex con and
- 7:05Speaker 1: we went to a party, me and him, and this
- 7:07Speaker 1: is the first time we had ever been outside altogether
- 7:09Speaker 1: because act don't go nowhere like people I'm gonna run
- 7:11Speaker 1: that You're not running down him, no, because he don't
- 7:13Speaker 1: go anywhere. So we went to this party it was
- 7:16Speaker 1: on sunset and gives us this way he was there
- 7:19Speaker 1: and gives us really cool like it wasn't no no bullshit.
- 7:22Speaker 1: But this is prior to prior, prior to the crazes, craziness,
- 7:26Speaker 1: prior to the craziness. But I feel like Gibbs is
- 7:29Speaker 1: smart in that space too, because he knows how to initate.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Like he leaned into it, Bro into it. Man. He
- 7:34Speaker 1: made the T shirts and he did the game of
- 7:37Speaker 1: thrown ship. He put my face and that's like the
- 7:39Speaker 1: memes was funny, Like it just was funny, you know
- 7:41Speaker 1: what I mean? But act like you gotta remember, Bro,
- 7:44Speaker 1: it's you take a dude who Yeah, he he built
- 7:48Speaker 1: his you want to call it the empire. You want
- 7:50Speaker 1: to call it some fun shit, whatever, you got to
- 7:52Speaker 1: call it the empire. Man, you got to give that
- 7:53Speaker 1: man his respect. Everybody got a different definition, right. But
- 7:57Speaker 1: whatever he built, he built it himself. And not only
- 8:01Speaker 1: The thing that I respect about academics is before he
- 8:04Speaker 1: went and bought himself this big old crazy house, he
- 8:06Speaker 1: bought his mother house, right, you know what I mean.
- 8:09Speaker 1: They came here from Jamaica. You know what I'm saying,
- 8:11Speaker 1: Like he got good family. Like if you meet his
- 8:13Speaker 1: I never met his mom, but his brother is my guy,
- 8:16Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You meet people around him,
- 8:18Speaker 1: you'd be like, how the funk he turned? Like that?
- 8:19Speaker 1: He just wanted to be entertainer. But he's like a wrestler. Bro.
- 8:22Speaker 1: I was gonna say, he's like the Paul Hayman of
- 8:24Speaker 1: hip hop, Like he just got that. You know, he's
- 8:27Speaker 1: talking all that ship. But you know what's crazy about
- 8:29Speaker 1: that conversation. You know how people always say rap is
- 8:31Speaker 1: wrestling because they call it fake. Wrestling is more than
- 8:33Speaker 1: realing rap than me. It's way more real and rap.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Because I don't disagree, because because I'm a big wrestling fan,
- 8:38Speaker 1: So it is wrestlers. You actually get fucked up in
- 8:41Speaker 1: wrestling breaker Lane, I went, I took my son. I
- 8:45Speaker 1: was surprised my son at Monday Monday Night Raw like
- 8:48Speaker 1: five years ago. The most entertaining shit IVE ever been
- 8:50Speaker 1: in bad especially for sitting like like the but it
- 8:54Speaker 1: was nobody. It's amazing. But the reason why I said,
- 8:57Speaker 1: because like the problem with a lot of artists is
- 8:59Speaker 1: that they don't know that they're playing a role, you
- 9:02Speaker 1: know what I mean, Like they you think that you're
- 9:04Speaker 1: doing all this real ship when you're really trying to
- 9:06Speaker 1: sell a product. Did you see Joe Rogan talking with
- 9:09Speaker 1: Undertaker about I watched that whole podcast that ship was
- 9:13Speaker 1: because you couldn't tell me when I was a kid
- 9:15Speaker 1: that Undertaker wasn't a demon possessing Paul Barrow was controlling
- 9:18Speaker 1: them with the earth of course, like I really believed that.
- 9:20Speaker 1: But think about like well he was talking about like
- 9:23Speaker 1: when he he purposely when he would leave and like
- 9:25Speaker 1: be in hotel rooms, he would purposely wear all black. Yeah,
- 9:29Speaker 1: he leaned into the no matter what. So probably the
- 9:32Speaker 1: thing I had. The reason why I'm saying that is
- 9:33Speaker 1: because it's like if a rapper, if an altercation happens
- 9:36Speaker 1: and a rapper who raps a certain way doesn't react
- 9:38Speaker 1: a certain way. Ayboy, all he faked he is, and
- 9:40Speaker 1: he that if we was across the street and shots
- 9:44Speaker 1: started flying and I seen on Schwarz Nigga, I'm not
- 9:46Speaker 1: looking for him to pull out the Desert Eagle and
- 9:47Speaker 1: start clapping, you know what I'm saying. Yeah, he played,
- 9:50Speaker 1: He plays his role, and I feel like not enough
- 9:52Speaker 1: artists they don't have the freedom to just play their role. Well,
- 9:55Speaker 1: that's that's that's an interesting conversation about that, right. I
- 9:58Speaker 1: just we just released the interview with two eleven who
- 10:02Speaker 1: used to be even from c Yeah. So he just
- 10:05Speaker 1: actually put out a whole project, was like Gibbs on
- 10:07Speaker 1: like nine records. It's like a little key like a
- 10:09Speaker 1: Freddie Gibbs collap album. But we were talking about the
- 10:12Speaker 1: g Z Gucci versus battle and and he's got his
- 10:16Speaker 1: problems with g Z, and he was saying essentially that
- 10:20Speaker 1: GZ played himself, and I was like, well, look on
- 10:22Speaker 1: the other side of the coin, Jez. You know, g
- 10:26Speaker 1: Z kind of showed a whole generation that you know,
- 10:30Speaker 1: it's it's not very touchy, it's very touchy because someone died,
- 10:35Speaker 1: somebody See that's the thing, right, Like everybody talks about
- 10:39Speaker 1: what they would do in that situation, until in that situation,
- 10:42Speaker 1: I've never My first friend that I ever had in
- 10:46Speaker 1: life is tatted on my on my arm he got murdered.
- 10:48Speaker 1: I don't know how I would feel if I saw
- 10:50Speaker 1: his killer, right, I don't. I know that. I know
- 10:53Speaker 1: for a fact, I'm not trying to go to jail
- 10:55Speaker 1: just to just to just to think that I'm making
- 10:57Speaker 1: people happier, to give myself some satisfaction by taking his life.
- 11:00Speaker 1: You got kids to worry about. I got a lot
- 11:02Speaker 1: of shit. You got, you got your livelihood, your career, everything.
- 11:05Speaker 1: So I'm not like I can't speak That's one thing
- 11:07Speaker 1: I can't do. I can't speak for why, jeez, he
- 11:08Speaker 1: felt like he should have did that. But I know
- 11:10Speaker 1: why Gucci did it. You know what I'm saying. I
- 11:12Speaker 1: understand why he did it because if I'm on the
- 11:14Speaker 1: other side of the coin, I probably would have did
- 11:16Speaker 1: the same shit he did. Yeah, I think that, Like
- 11:20Speaker 1: you said, like, there's there's like especially with these there's
- 11:24Speaker 1: you know a lot of these kids in these younger generations,
- 11:26Speaker 1: like you look like what's going on in Jacksonville with
- 11:28Speaker 1: the hip hop ship right now so insane, Kep. I
- 11:32Speaker 1: just say it as a black man, this shit this
- 11:34Speaker 1: heartens me to see. Like like when I was growing
- 11:37Speaker 1: up listening to music, we grew up on the same music.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I never heard nobody like like when it was when
- 11:42Speaker 1: artists with this each other. They might have had a
- 11:44Speaker 1: problem backstage or something, but it was more centered around
- 11:47Speaker 1: you can it was more centered around the hip hop,
- 11:49Speaker 1: the bar. It's just like and sometimes there'd be some
- 11:52Speaker 1: personal shit involved me, but it was never like I'm
- 11:55Speaker 1: a But the thing about it is is what I
- 11:58Speaker 1: be finding out with a lot of these stories is like,
- 12:00Speaker 1: all right, these kids be getting into a lot of
- 12:02Speaker 1: this shit. When I was fourteen, I got into a
- 12:04Speaker 1: lot of stupid shit, but like these kids, it'd be
- 12:08Speaker 1: like y'all played basketball together, y'all used to sleep at
- 12:11Speaker 1: each other's house or his hont is your mom best friend,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and y'all had and then y'all now y'all just super murderers,
- 12:18Speaker 1: like you know what I mean. And the thing about
- 12:20Speaker 1: it is like nobody don't talk about like the post
- 12:23Speaker 1: trauma with these kids go through. No everybody sit here
- 12:28Speaker 1: act like they just just murdering killer. They not talking
- 12:31Speaker 1: about like the piece of theirself they lose when they
- 12:33Speaker 1: might have did some shit like that, you know what
- 12:35Speaker 1: I mean, they're waking up. Then I think about like
- 12:38Speaker 1: the young and age kid who put out the record, Bro,
- 12:43Speaker 1: it's so crazy, but I've met him in interview him
- 12:46Speaker 1: and he seems like a nice, genuinely like sweet kid.
- 12:49Speaker 1: And then he puts out and then the other kid
- 12:51Speaker 1: puts out a record on the graveyard of hit Like
- 12:54Speaker 1: it's like, it's crazy, like where the hell don't know?
- 12:57Speaker 1: But you know what's crazy most of the artists that
- 12:59Speaker 1: I meet, because this is the thing. I've been in
- 13:01Speaker 1: this ship, bro, I was I was really brought up
- 13:04Speaker 1: in this ship around state property. I'm saying. So it's like,
- 13:07Speaker 1: which we'll get to, yeah, but I would just say
- 13:09Speaker 1: this before we get to that. Beanie Seagull might be
- 13:11Speaker 1: the toughest person I ever met my life, you know
- 13:13Speaker 1: what I mean. When he when he was at that time,
- 13:15Speaker 1: but who he was to everybody when we came out
- 13:18Speaker 1: the house, because I lived with Beanie Siegua when he
- 13:20Speaker 1: was in the house arrest, who he was we came
- 13:22Speaker 1: out the house was a different person. Than when I
- 13:24Speaker 1: knew him, how I knew him, how his mother knew him,
- 13:26Speaker 1: how his kid knew him. So I understand that, like
- 13:29Speaker 1: a lot in hip hop, we got this fucking this
- 13:33Speaker 1: wall built up that we don't want to break down,
- 13:35Speaker 1: that we ain't got no feelings, we ain't got no remorse,
- 13:38Speaker 1: we ain't got none of that, and that shit ain't
- 13:40Speaker 1: the case. And I feel like a lot of that
- 13:41Speaker 1: ship as me being a black man, is at the
- 13:43Speaker 1: detriment of the black man, you know what I mean,
- 13:45Speaker 1: Because it's like I would hate to see younger age
- 13:47Speaker 1: sort of whoever the other kid he's beefing with, Yeah,
- 13:52Speaker 1: you're right, yeah, so I would confuse him, my yankee,
- 13:56Speaker 1: But I would hate to see one of them go
- 13:58Speaker 1: down for some crazy because at the end is bro,
- 14:01Speaker 1: you're hurting, your mom's like you, and an opportunity. You
- 14:03Speaker 1: got an opportunity where you can build some shit. Music
- 14:06Speaker 1: has changed so many people on this planet's lives where
- 14:11Speaker 1: it's like you got the opportunity to like really change
- 14:14Speaker 1: your life for generations. I don't know if they care
- 14:17Speaker 1: about that, orenough, because it's hard to tell a young
- 14:19Speaker 1: brother to see that. For I didn't see that far
- 14:20Speaker 1: when I was like young, but I'll just be like,
- 14:22Speaker 1: let's move your mic in the middle of you. Okay,
- 14:25Speaker 1: boom there we go. All right, okay better, But like
- 14:29Speaker 1: I'm just like, yo, bro, y'all gotta start noticing that
- 14:32Speaker 1: you have value when these record labels sign you and
- 14:35Speaker 1: give you all that money, which ain't no money to
- 14:37Speaker 1: them all. That's cute, right, but you have value. That's
- 14:40Speaker 1: the only reason why they fucking with you. Because you
- 14:42Speaker 1: have value. Now, that value that they see in you,
- 14:44Speaker 1: you need to take that and build on that and
- 14:46Speaker 1: filter that into your family. Because bro, nothing's realid and
- 14:50Speaker 1: putting your loved ones in a box, right, nothing's REALI
- 14:52Speaker 1: than that shit. And if you leaning towards that type
- 14:55Speaker 1: of shit, you ain't for nothing but destruction. Yeah. I
- 14:58Speaker 1: just saw a clip of Master He on the Breakfast
- 15:00Speaker 1: Club that I thought was dope, and he was kind
- 15:02Speaker 1: of talking about how there was a lot of people
- 15:06Speaker 1: who were saying, like, you know, did he had some
- 15:09Speaker 1: responsibility for Black rob like you know, ship like that.
- 15:11Speaker 1: But then he kind of took that into the conversation
- 15:14Speaker 1: of like, you know, the bigger labels, the you know,
- 15:18Speaker 1: the Jimmy I Beans or the machines that are behind
- 15:21Speaker 1: a lot of these artists, like they're not stepping in
- 15:25Speaker 1: and like, you know, think about someone like NBA young
- 15:27Speaker 1: boy who's who? Like like who? Like? You know what
- 15:29Speaker 1: I mean? Like son, you know what I used to
- 15:32Speaker 1: give and be a young boy a lot of flak
- 15:33Speaker 1: until I watched that interview he did with injury they
- 15:36Speaker 1: and with hearing about that. That kid's story. He don't
- 15:38Speaker 1: know his father right, he don't got the best relationship
- 15:41Speaker 1: with his mother. He's raised by his grandmother. Can't he help?
- 15:44Speaker 1: And I when I say help, he need to show
- 15:46Speaker 1: to the lean on he needed. And it ain't just
- 15:48Speaker 1: about the big homies everybody who it's like some yeah,
- 15:52Speaker 1: it don't first of all, like everybody was a big
- 15:54Speaker 1: homie and a gangster or something like that. Like you
- 15:56Speaker 1: just need a voice of reason around you and you
- 15:58Speaker 1: don't need to it don'ts need a person that need
- 16:01Speaker 1: to have money. The problem with artists is they don't
- 16:03Speaker 1: a lot of them don't want to. They don't want
- 16:04Speaker 1: to be helped, you know what I mean. A lot
- 16:06Speaker 1: of them feel like they don't need to help. And
- 16:08Speaker 1: I'm not speaking for NBAM. I don't know what he
- 16:10Speaker 1: of course brace that hasn't But like the ship with
- 16:14Speaker 1: with Black Rob and all that and everybody holding, how
- 16:17Speaker 1: can you hold did he responsible for somebody he gave
- 16:21Speaker 1: an opportunity to years ago? Yeah right he twenty one
- 16:26Speaker 1: years ago is when Life Story came out, right, Yeah,
- 16:28Speaker 1: so I was a teenager at that time. I remember
- 16:30Speaker 1: buying that album. Man, So he gave this guy opportunity.
- 16:34Speaker 1: And I again I can't speak for specifically with his
- 16:37Speaker 1: because I don't know Black Rob story. Of course. All
- 16:39Speaker 1: I'm saying is that you can't be held like just
- 16:42Speaker 1: because you the guy with that's the problem. Everybody can
- 16:45Speaker 1: look at his money and be like out in his pocket.
- 16:46Speaker 1: Well you should have put him in rehab, or you
- 16:48Speaker 1: should have put him in this, or you should put
- 16:49Speaker 1: him in that, or you should have gave him this
- 16:51Speaker 1: or gave him That's like brow, how much do you
- 16:53Speaker 1: want for yourself? Yeah? Also like if like everybody who
- 16:57Speaker 1: did He's ever worked with ends up having like some
- 16:59Speaker 1: real issues in life, like you can't like like that's
- 17:02Speaker 1: so canarity? Charity can put you in poverty? Well that's
- 17:05Speaker 1: just a crazy thing to expect from anybody, let alone
- 17:08Speaker 1: Like did he or anybody like, yo, just be you know,
- 17:10Speaker 1: like how many artists did he ever worked with? You
- 17:12Speaker 1: know what I'm saying, Like, I mean, it's been a lot,
- 17:14Speaker 1: but I'm saying, but like if it's if he's responsible
- 17:17Speaker 1: for you can't be held to the standard of everything
- 17:19Speaker 1: that did not work. Cannot bros. It's no different than
- 17:22Speaker 1: a basketball team, right, It's like okay, like like all right,
- 17:26Speaker 1: who's the Delonte West? Mark Cuban, Shout out to him.
- 17:29Speaker 1: Shout out to Mark. You didn't need to do that.
- 17:31Speaker 1: He didn't need to do that, but he did it.
- 17:32Speaker 1: He did it. But everybody like, why don't Lebron go
- 17:35Speaker 1: get him? Why don't this person go get him? Why
- 17:37Speaker 1: don't that? First of all, you don't know if he's
- 17:39Speaker 1: tried to or not, right. Secondly, that's not his responsibility.
- 17:45Speaker 1: But thirdly, if Lebron's mom slept with Delonte West, that's
- 17:48Speaker 1: the whole numb that's off the table. I don't hypothetically
- 17:51Speaker 1: hypothetically hypothetically, but everybody that doesn't have it always talks
- 17:57Speaker 1: about what they would do it. They lie. But I
- 17:59Speaker 1: even go call you a liar. You don't know what
- 18:01Speaker 1: you would do unless you have out there people be like, yo,
- 18:03Speaker 1: if I had ten million out, yeah right, If you
- 18:05Speaker 1: got ten million, you got five million in taxes, yep,
- 18:08Speaker 1: you got five million dollars, you got five million, then
- 18:10Speaker 1: you got to figure. So we think of these because
- 18:12Speaker 1: we traink to believe that these numbers are so large
- 18:15Speaker 1: and it's so much. But when you get to those levels,
- 18:16Speaker 1: the level responsibility heightens, so it's like, yeah, you want
- 18:20Speaker 1: to live like this, you want to keep maintaining living
- 18:22Speaker 1: like this. You can't be helping everybody because you're trying
- 18:24Speaker 1: to maintain you on yours. I think that's the biggest
- 18:26Speaker 1: downfall of most artists that we see is that you'll
- 18:30Speaker 1: see them. I'll see them come up to the radio
- 18:31Speaker 1: station and they'll have twenty motherfuckers with them and they're
- 18:34Speaker 1: from like down South, So you know, that's twenty plane tickets,
- 18:38Speaker 1: that's Lord knows how many hotel rooms, how much is
- 18:40Speaker 1: the airbnb? How much is everyone's food? You know all
- 18:43Speaker 1: that up. Only people I keep around me is people
- 18:48Speaker 1: that I work with and when I'm working right right,
- 18:51Speaker 1: because like a lot of my friends don't do it.
- 18:53Speaker 1: I like my real friends that I grew up with
- 18:55Speaker 1: don't do what I do. But it's like, I'm not
- 18:58Speaker 1: just going to keep you with me for shitting. Like
- 19:00Speaker 1: if you if you're around me, you gotta be working
- 19:03Speaker 1: on something. You can't just be sitting around. And I'm
- 19:05Speaker 1: just saying, well, what you're gonna do, man, what you
- 19:08Speaker 1: want to know? I'll take care of course, if it's
- 19:12Speaker 1: something that we all are working to us. But I'm
- 19:14Speaker 1: not just doing that. I'm also not a rapper, that's fair.
- 19:17Speaker 1: I'm also not a rapper, that's fair. You know, now
- 19:21Speaker 1: that you're on the executive side, you're doing the A
- 19:23Speaker 1: and R thing for for Asylum, which is under Warner Brothers.
- 19:27Speaker 1: Asylum just got revamped last year because I remember you
- 19:30Speaker 1: years ago, a couple of years okay, okay, okay, because
- 19:32Speaker 1: before it was like I remember, it's like bun b
- 19:34Speaker 1: and Mike Jones and Mike Jones Webby, Yeah, Boosy was
- 19:37Speaker 1: dead diplomats at point, That's right. Cam was over there,
- 19:42Speaker 1: was it? K Killless season was on there? Season over there.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I think the diplomatic community too, is on it. What
- 19:50Speaker 1: is your kind of thought process of like, because Asylum
- 19:54Speaker 1: is kind of like there's some independent ish vibes over there,
- 19:58Speaker 1: even though it's under a major, but you've been in
- 20:01Speaker 1: the industry for so long. I always tell artists like,
- 20:05Speaker 1: whenever you're gonna sign, like you know, don't worry about
- 20:08Speaker 1: the advance as much because I think a lot of
- 20:10Speaker 1: times people will rush to whoever's got the biggest upfront bag. Yeah,
- 20:14Speaker 1: so the thing what my fun I was gonna say, Well,
- 20:17Speaker 1: like to me, like, that's most of the time, it's
- 20:19Speaker 1: a mistake because if you if you take that back
- 20:22Speaker 1: too early, the deal is probably really shitty and you
- 20:25Speaker 1: gotta be you gotta pay that money back. But you
- 20:27Speaker 1: got to pay all money back, like like, it depends
- 20:29Speaker 1: where you're at in life. It depends on where you're
- 20:31Speaker 1: in life, because I can't tell I can't tell a
- 20:34Speaker 1: young brother that assisted that's from Harlem, where I'm from,
- 20:37Speaker 1: or from Louisiana, or from Orlando or Chicago, in any
- 20:42Speaker 1: place where it's poverty at don't take no money because
- 20:45Speaker 1: I don't know what your circumstances is. And when somebody
- 20:47Speaker 1: waving that in front of you, it's like, shit, what
- 20:50Speaker 1: am I to do? So I learned this from my
- 20:52Speaker 1: good friend Steve Carlos STEVEO. Yeah, when you do a deal,
- 20:57Speaker 1: you got to do a deal, like right now, I'm
- 20:58Speaker 1: trying to buy a house, right, so good luck. Oh
- 21:02Speaker 1: it's crazy, it's crazy. You should wait. I'm waiting. Fucked
- 21:07Speaker 1: up right now? Is fucked up? You gotta you gotta,
- 21:09Speaker 1: you gotta, you gotta. The thing is, while it might
- 21:11Speaker 1: be fucked up for others, I don't have the same
- 21:13Speaker 1: situation everybody fair enough, So certain things work for me
- 21:16Speaker 1: that might not work for everybody. You gotta get in
- 21:19Speaker 1: where you fit in. You got to figure out what
- 21:20Speaker 1: works for you best. When you do a deal, you
- 21:22Speaker 1: have to do You got to understand first and foremost,
- 21:24Speaker 1: when you sign a deal, it's not just a deal
- 21:25Speaker 1: for you. That's a lot of artists think that, like
- 21:28Speaker 1: when they sign a deal, it's my deal. No, it's
- 21:31Speaker 1: both parties. It's for both parties. So when you're when
- 21:34Speaker 1: you when you sign for that bread and you you
- 21:37Speaker 1: all right, you got you got your your check, you
- 21:40Speaker 1: could go get your nice car, you watch you have
- 21:42Speaker 1: a nice night at the club. You can do whatever
- 21:44Speaker 1: whatever you want to do, move your mom, whatever the
- 21:46Speaker 1: case may be. You have to You have to immediately
- 21:49Speaker 1: put yourself in a position or put people around you.
- 21:51Speaker 1: That's learned that know business or teaching you business, because
- 21:55Speaker 1: if not, you're gonna get fucked over. It's like if I,
- 21:58Speaker 1: like were talking about the house. I've been trying to
- 22:02Speaker 1: buy one for a long time now. But if I
- 22:06Speaker 1: go sign a bad deal for a house, right, you
- 22:08Speaker 1: think the bank gives a fuck. They're gonna get this back,
- 22:11Speaker 1: regardless whether they put my shit in foreclosure. If I
- 22:14Speaker 1: can't afford it one day and they put my shit
- 22:16Speaker 1: in foreclosure and somebody buys it out and gets it
- 22:18Speaker 1: or I pay it off, they gonna get there's the
- 22:20Speaker 1: big corporation is gonna get this. But you got to
- 22:22Speaker 1: learn how to work within the system. So I always
- 22:24Speaker 1: tell people that, like, if you're gonna do a deal,
- 22:27Speaker 1: it's not about that events, it's about the terms. About
- 22:30Speaker 1: the terms, it's about what's on paper. If I tell you, keV,
- 22:33Speaker 1: I'm moving out to La kind of fucked up, but
- 22:35Speaker 1: I need a place to stay, You're like, you know, wainit. No,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I got you you come stay. We got this room,
- 22:39Speaker 1: but you like it ain't no all right? If you ain't,
- 22:41Speaker 1: if you ain't gonna pay no bills in here. I
- 22:43Speaker 1: need you to pick my kids from school. I need
- 22:45Speaker 1: you to wash my cars. I need you to do
- 22:48Speaker 1: launching on Sundays when I want to go to the
- 22:49Speaker 1: game and watch the game and shit, And I'm like no,
- 22:53Speaker 1: I'm like, now, I ain't doing all that shit. And you,
- 22:54Speaker 1: like you the one that you need the fucking place
- 22:56Speaker 1: to stay, not me. So a lot of people don't
- 22:59Speaker 1: approach it with a certain type of mindset. Also, I
- 23:01Speaker 1: think it's like based on the leverage, Like you said,
- 23:04Speaker 1: it's it depends on who you are on your leverage.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So it's like, I know we've been talking about Gibbs, right,
- 23:09Speaker 1: So it was like when Gibbs did his deal, I
- 23:12Speaker 1: don't know none of his business, but I knew that
- 23:15Speaker 1: when he did a deal with Warner, he had done
- 23:18Speaker 1: so much groundwork and he puts so much work in
- 23:20Speaker 1: that he knew that the deal. Like me from the
- 23:22Speaker 1: outside looking at him, like, oh nah, he gonna be good.
- 23:24Speaker 1: You know, he's not taking the deal because he's turned
- 23:27Speaker 1: out somebody, right, he's taking sense. It makes sense business
- 23:30Speaker 1: wise for the business he's trying to run. And then
- 23:33Speaker 1: it's like I can't tell you the amount of kids
- 23:35Speaker 1: brought I've tried to sign and the deal might not
- 23:38Speaker 1: be as much money, but it's better on the term side.
- 23:41Speaker 1: And then they go across the street and sign this
- 23:42Speaker 1: crazy fucking deal for all his money and nothing ever happens.
- 23:46Speaker 1: The problem with these artists that they don't know is that,
- 23:49Speaker 1: like the these are Fortune five hundred companies. They fucking
- 23:53Speaker 1: When you think of Warner, don't think of Cardi B's
- 23:56Speaker 1: at Atlantic, think about the intellectual property of Batman in Greenland? Right?
- 24:01Speaker 1: You think they give a fuck about you streaming? You
- 24:03Speaker 1: just said you're not even a branch on the tree.
- 24:06Speaker 1: You a leaf on the tree. Now, if if they
- 24:08Speaker 1: could keep this business model running and going based on
- 24:10Speaker 1: how good you do. The thing about it is they
- 24:12Speaker 1: give you a million dollar deal. Guess what big big
- 24:16Speaker 1: labels could lose thirty million dollars in the lights ain't
- 24:18Speaker 1: gonna cut off. The water is still gonna run, It's
- 24:20Speaker 1: still gonna flush. But you feel special about that million.
- 24:23Speaker 1: If you get a million dollar deal, I tell all
- 24:25Speaker 1: of you go, if you fortunate enough to have somebody
- 24:28Speaker 1: give you a million, which is not a million, they're
- 24:30Speaker 1: probably gonna put five hundred thousand in your pocket. You
- 24:33Speaker 1: got to pay everybody that's in your business. And then
- 24:34Speaker 1: the other five hundred gonna go to making your project.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Figure out how to make that five hundred that's working
- 24:40Speaker 1: towards your project work for you. Get some producers, sign them,
- 24:43Speaker 1: get a studio, build it. That's what I tell everybody.
- 24:46Speaker 1: I'm like, yo, do not let like, like, the biggest
- 24:48Speaker 1: mistake I see artists doing is like getting into like
- 24:51Speaker 1: one of the like pair amount and they're in there
- 24:54Speaker 1: for twelve hours, and half of that time is fucking
- 24:56Speaker 1: off eating food, smoking, And it's like, yo, like you
- 24:59Speaker 1: could just you got that budget, take your money and
- 25:02Speaker 1: make your own spot. Whatever they're paying for, they're paying
- 25:05Speaker 1: for the brand. It's like it's like I buy, I like,
- 25:09Speaker 1: I buy. I'm not a big fan of like design
- 25:11Speaker 1: and shiit, but like every now and like, I like,
- 25:14Speaker 1: I love Louis Waton trainers, right Joints, that virgies just
- 25:16Speaker 1: that I love it. It's like one of my favorite
- 25:18Speaker 1: sneakers right now. But I would never buy a pair
- 25:20Speaker 1: of Louis Vaitton socks. I don't never buy the socks
- 25:23Speaker 1: right because I feel like, man, socks ain't that important
- 25:26Speaker 1: for me to spend eight hundred dollars on right now,
- 25:28Speaker 1: Sneakers is all subjected I'm not a sneakerhead. I have
- 25:31Speaker 1: a love for sneakers, two different things different. I'm not
- 25:35Speaker 1: spending that on but it's people who will buy that
- 25:38Speaker 1: just so that can show them because they rep in
- 25:39Speaker 1: a brand. You care so much about the brand and
- 25:42Speaker 1: brand and brand and brand and brand as opposed to
- 25:44Speaker 1: getting the work done. And that's the difference in the studio. Shit,
- 25:46Speaker 1: you can you can record in the same mics as
- 25:48Speaker 1: the smaller studio as you can in a large studio.
- 25:50Speaker 1: Now the person Noel you can bring in, that's a
- 25:52Speaker 1: whole different conversation, right, And that's when you start working
- 25:54Speaker 1: with a major label or not, or you know what
- 25:57Speaker 1: I mean, a production company that comes in and grabs
- 26:00Speaker 1: a guy or not. Like you gotta you gotta do
- 26:02Speaker 1: what works best for you. Nobody deals is like social
- 26:04Speaker 1: Security numbers. Everybody got them. They all different. Yep, that's fair, man,
- 26:07Speaker 1: that's fair. So let's talk about for people who don't know. Obviously,
- 26:11Speaker 1: you came into well, you were working in the mail
- 26:14Speaker 1: room at at the Deaf Jam building originally, right, you
- 26:17Speaker 1: got fired, got fire, and then you ended up chasing
- 26:21Speaker 1: down Beanie's mom. You had her number, No, you had
- 26:23Speaker 1: her number. That's not how I got in though, but okay,
- 26:25Speaker 1: but you you would, Okay, So how'd you get into
- 26:27Speaker 1: to Rockefeller? The way I got in the Rockefeller was Onmia.
- 26:32Speaker 1: I always say this, and I never worked with her
- 26:34Speaker 1: per se, but omy Ellie McIntosh, she ran Jay Z's
- 26:38Speaker 1: fan club fan fan Her sister Darren McIntosh worked at Rockefeller.
- 26:42Speaker 1: They from Brooklyn. They all came up with Jay and
- 26:44Speaker 1: all of them. What I did was is like I
- 26:47Speaker 1: was the youngest person in the mill room. So I
- 26:49Speaker 1: was like, I think seventeen or eighteen at the time.
- 26:51Speaker 1: I was seventeen going on eighteen when I got a
- 26:53Speaker 1: mill room. So the rest of the milling room is like,
- 26:56Speaker 1: we got a few rappers in there, you know what
- 26:57Speaker 1: I'm saying. We got to everybody's like twenty five and older.
- 27:00Speaker 1: But I'm the young guy. So when I come upstairs,
- 27:02Speaker 1: like I'm I'm I'm always I've always had a personality
- 27:04Speaker 1: to help, and it's been at it's been at my
- 27:06Speaker 1: my uh, at my advantage and of my detriot. Yeah
- 27:09Speaker 1: me too. But like so I'm the I'm the kid
- 27:12Speaker 1: who's like, I'm so inquisitive because I seen a movie
- 27:15Speaker 1: backstage and now like when I've seen Backstade, I'm seeing
- 27:19Speaker 1: I'm in the build, I see Tai walking in one
- 27:20Speaker 1: they I see Leney, I've seeing these people. Part of
- 27:22Speaker 1: that movie was shot in my hometown in Phoenix, and
- 27:24Speaker 1: I was at that show when I was like wow,
- 27:26Speaker 1: So I was like I was at that con right, right, right,
- 27:28Speaker 1: So I went to see it with my friends in
- 27:29Speaker 1: the movies. But like I'm like, I'm asking everybody like
- 27:33Speaker 1: how can I like, how can I help? And AMI's like, yo,
- 27:35Speaker 1: you know, it's a fan club. So they shipping our
- 27:37Speaker 1: t shirts, they shipping out CDs whatever that people will
- 27:40Speaker 1: shout out to the days of fan clubs, to the
- 27:41Speaker 1: fan clubs, the real fan right, you know what I mean,
- 27:44Speaker 1: you re real dope ship. You know what I'm saying.
- 27:47Speaker 1: You got to write a letter to get in the
- 27:48Speaker 1: fan club. So I would help with shipping. So I
- 27:51Speaker 1: would help with shipping. Omie used to give me tickets
- 27:53Speaker 1: to go to like Jay concerts and shit like that.
- 27:55Speaker 1: And then I built the rapport with like I was
- 27:57Speaker 1: on the floors that I had was the Royalty Department
- 28:00Speaker 1: and murdered Ink was on that floor because there was
- 28:02Speaker 1: a Universal building. And then you had what was the
- 28:06Speaker 1: other floors. I had to bring a lot of in
- 28:09Speaker 1: the office because people wasn't using the email like that.
- 28:11Speaker 1: So it's in an office mail so it'd be like
- 28:13Speaker 1: only be like, yo, take the second floor. Yeah, take
- 28:15Speaker 1: this to my sister at Rockefeller right now. So I
- 28:17Speaker 1: go up the Rockefeller go up there. And I had
- 28:20Speaker 1: built a rapport with them to where I had after
- 28:22Speaker 1: I got fired from the mail room and I was
- 28:24Speaker 1: trying to figure out my next steps. I was working
- 28:26Speaker 1: at a little sneaker store on my hood and all
- 28:27Speaker 1: that shit, and I quit that after I try I'm like, yo,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I need to do this music shit. I just hit
- 28:31Speaker 1: people up, like yo, can I. I didn't know what
- 28:33Speaker 1: the internship was. Ro dropped out high school in ninth grade,
- 28:35Speaker 1: so I didn't know. I didn't know what career even meant.
- 28:37Speaker 1: So I was just like, yo, can I help. I
- 28:39Speaker 1: just helped, and I just sat around in the mill room.
- 28:41Speaker 1: He was like the intern without even knowing he was
- 28:42Speaker 1: the intern I was. I was just sitting in the office.
- 28:44Speaker 1: And then I was sitting in the office, just sitting
- 28:46Speaker 1: there doing whatever. Go get the food, Go get the sneakers,
- 28:49Speaker 1: go get whatever, and then I got an internship, and
- 28:52Speaker 1: then the internship ran a little bit. The beanie calling
- 28:55Speaker 1: his mom shit that happened within that, and then I
- 28:58Speaker 1: ended up getting assistant in office. I was working on
- 29:01Speaker 1: my man they face Gary Wow, who he just started
- 29:03Speaker 1: the podcast, but he was what a damon bigs homies
- 29:07Speaker 1: that he grew up with from down Sam Manhattan Ship.
- 29:10Speaker 1: The days of interning and like really like really just
- 29:14Speaker 1: like looking down and work, because that's how I got
- 29:16Speaker 1: into it. I worked for free for two years of
- 29:18Speaker 1: the radio station before I got like actually on the radio.
- 29:20Speaker 1: Oh yeah, absolutely, you gotta put your work in. But
- 29:22Speaker 1: that shit is gone. Man. You know these kids because
- 29:25Speaker 1: we're like entitlement generation is in full effect, no super entitlement.
- 29:29Speaker 1: And I mean everybody needs to get money or they
- 29:31Speaker 1: got to see immediate payoff or they're not. They're like yoah,
- 29:33Speaker 1: that shit is crazy. That's why I don't be like,
- 29:35Speaker 1: like my kids ship they get shipped. But then I'd
- 29:39Speaker 1: be like, man, I ain't giving y'all like that, gotta
- 29:41Speaker 1: work for that. Like this ship is an incentivized and
- 29:45Speaker 1: your allowance is an incentivized business. Allowance is a business.
- 29:49Speaker 1: For me. What I'm saying like, my business manager has
- 29:51Speaker 1: to cut my kids allowance. So it's like, oh, you
- 29:53Speaker 1: you're not cleaning up. You're not cleaning up, you ain't
- 29:56Speaker 1: cleaning your room, or you didn't take out the garbage,
- 29:58Speaker 1: and now your allowance is not enough of you to
- 30:00Speaker 1: get them piers of sneakers. So now you want me
- 30:02Speaker 1: to go buy your pier sneakers. Now I ain't doing
- 30:03Speaker 1: that ship fun that fuck that you got work for
- 30:06Speaker 1: yours all day. Man. So once you got into the
- 30:11Speaker 1: A and R position, I know you said, you know,
- 30:13Speaker 1: I think state property. I always. I got to interview
- 30:15Speaker 1: being a couple of years ago, and that was like
- 30:17Speaker 1: a real highlight for me because he was kind of
- 30:19Speaker 1: exactly who I thought he was going to be. One
- 30:20Speaker 1: of did not disappoint. And then even like I just
- 30:26Speaker 1: had Young Chris on the show last My Dog. Yeah,
- 30:29Speaker 1: he came in freestyle called a body. He's you know,
- 30:31Speaker 1: he's one of the best that ever do that. Bro.
- 30:33Speaker 1: He came while while they came up to the station, Yeah,
- 30:35Speaker 1: Young Chris with him, and I was like, while, he's
- 30:37Speaker 1: my guy, but I was like, yo, fucking young Chris.
- 30:41Speaker 1: Low Key so influential is mixtape run so underrated, Like
- 30:45Speaker 1: those mixtapes that he put out, like kind of post
- 30:48Speaker 1: the Rockefeller Error were so underrated. That was that was.
- 30:51Speaker 1: That was me and him, man, because I was telling them,
- 30:53Speaker 1: I was telling them about you, brother. I was telling
- 30:54Speaker 1: them about the mixtape ship. Nobody listening. Fifty Cent came
- 30:57Speaker 1: and did all the ship. Then I was telling him
- 30:59Speaker 1: about the internet shit I was on. I was on
- 31:01Speaker 1: all hip hop. I was on sohh. I was in
- 31:03Speaker 1: the forums, you know what I mean. I used to be.
- 31:05Speaker 1: I learned forum shit by forum days. I was on
- 31:09Speaker 1: the first while I learned forums before I got into
- 31:10Speaker 1: music was being on Nike Talk, Yeah, Nike to. I
- 31:13Speaker 1: used to be in there talking about sneakers and ship.
- 31:15Speaker 1: Do you remember the forum of Realist nwords dot com. Yeah,
- 31:18Speaker 1: oh my god. I got all my mixtapes and albums
- 31:20Speaker 1: off of there. That like when I started bootlegging mixtapes
- 31:23Speaker 1: and CDs when I was like sixteen at the swap meet,
- 31:25Speaker 1: I got everything off of there. Yeah yeah, yeah, bro.
- 31:27Speaker 1: The admin's name was Porky. He had all the ship. Yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I know. I learned a lot of but that ship
- 31:32Speaker 1: was like I was always I was like the real
- 31:34Speaker 1: early hip hop Internet day, Okay, player chat rooms and
- 31:37Speaker 1: shit all that shit. Bro, man, Yo, they because they
- 31:40Speaker 1: had forums on Black Planet day like people would be
- 31:42Speaker 1: on social media, but they didn't know that they had
- 31:44Speaker 1: forums for shit. So you go on. I used to
- 31:45Speaker 1: be in the Yahoo when I'm fifteen. I was in
- 31:47Speaker 1: Yahoo those chat rooms. I was buying Jordan's online when
- 31:51Speaker 1: I was like fourteen years old. Bro, there was like
- 31:53Speaker 1: a whole chat room era of just like my childhood.
- 31:56Speaker 1: Like my older cousin was like nineteen and he was
- 31:58Speaker 1: getting pussy off of chat rooms. It got wow wow bro.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And you can't even send pictures check to mill you
- 32:06Speaker 1: a picture? Yeah, that ship is crazy. Nah. But your
- 32:11Speaker 1: run with Rockefeller, you were kind of what year did
- 32:15Speaker 1: you officially start, Like, were you like actually started to
- 32:18Speaker 1: get a check from Rockefeller? What year was that? Two
- 32:20Speaker 1: thousand and two? Like the end of two thousand and two,
- 32:23Speaker 1: but I was there like two thousand, I think, like
- 32:27Speaker 1: around the end of two thousand and one. And also
- 32:29Speaker 1: I got a credit Shary Bryant, she's the president of
- 32:32Speaker 1: the Rock Nation right now. But me and Shary is
- 32:35Speaker 1: close to age, you know what I mean. She is
- 32:37Speaker 1: like a year or two younger than me, but not
- 32:39Speaker 1: at but but but Shary Bro Shary was she was
- 32:45Speaker 1: like an assistant to Carlen who was Dame j and
- 32:48Speaker 1: Biggs assistant and she was a kid and she was
- 32:50Speaker 1: running ship bro and like that was the person I called.
- 32:53Speaker 1: But Shary is from Harlem, so that was the person
- 32:56Speaker 1: I called. And Axek just come in to to the office
- 32:58Speaker 1: and help. And she gave me she opened up that
- 33:00Speaker 1: door for me. Wow. I mean she told me like, yeah,
- 33:02Speaker 1: come in. I pissed off mad times though because I
- 33:04Speaker 1: was doing it I was supposed to be doing but
- 33:06Speaker 1: it worked out in it. I feel like you were
- 33:08Speaker 1: kind of around the era of when like there was
- 33:11Speaker 1: probably some background issues maybe starting to fester because I
- 33:17Speaker 1: mean Fellers, But we didn't, Bro, We really found that
- 33:21Speaker 1: shit out like in the media. We didn't. Like, we
- 33:24Speaker 1: didn't we had no idea. Like because I tell you
- 33:26Speaker 1: one thing, Bro, like one thing about Rockefeller. That shit
- 33:28Speaker 1: was like it really was like a family if you
- 33:30Speaker 1: was really because you had the people that worked there,
- 33:32Speaker 1: and then you had the people who was like not
- 33:35Speaker 1: too much like family, and you had the people that
- 33:36Speaker 1: was really like family. Family, Like we was really tight
- 33:39Speaker 1: knit and like I would be around Dame and Beans
- 33:43Speaker 1: because we had were doing when we shooting Stay Property too.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I'm with Beans every single day, you know what I mean,
- 33:48Speaker 1: because I ended up becoming from being an an R
- 33:51Speaker 1: being like his personal assistant slash and R. So I'm
- 33:54Speaker 1: around him all day and Dame is there and Bigs
- 33:57Speaker 1: and we laughing, joking, and then later on that night,
- 33:59Speaker 1: I might have got to go Toline and I see
- 34:01Speaker 1: Jay and bleaking them and it's the same type of love.
- 34:04Speaker 1: And I'm a kid, so I'm green. I'm just like
- 34:07Speaker 1: I'm in heaven, bro, Like these are dudes that I
- 34:08Speaker 1: watched growing up and now I'm working with them. So
- 34:11Speaker 1: it's like you never think it's gonna end, you know
- 34:13Speaker 1: what I mean. So did you see that obviously? I
- 34:15Speaker 1: mean the Drink Champs interview with Cam was pretty legendary
- 34:17Speaker 1: to Yeah, Cam, that's another Cam was a person that
- 34:20Speaker 1: gave me an opportunity to bro. Oh really, yeah, I
- 34:22Speaker 1: don't think I was, but Cam, like one day I
- 34:24Speaker 1: was in the office and Cam he walked in the
- 34:28Speaker 1: office and like him and Jim walked in the office
- 34:29Speaker 1: at the same time, and they look like they just
- 34:31Speaker 1: arguing and some shit. Yeah, and then he was like.
- 34:34Speaker 1: He was like, yo, shorty, can't turn to me. He's like, yo, shorty,
- 34:36Speaker 1: how much money you make at Rockefeller a week? I
- 34:39Speaker 1: said two hundred dollars. He's like, come to diplomats like
- 34:42Speaker 1: you four hundred. I was like all right, like immedia.
- 34:44Speaker 1: I was like, all right, bro. So I get back
- 34:47Speaker 1: to my block that night, I'm telling everybody, yo, this
- 34:49Speaker 1: one come home with me is out and I'm from Harlem. Yeah.
- 34:52Speaker 1: So I got this tattoo on my hand because Kim
- 34:53Speaker 1: had diplomat on his hand, just keeping it full disclosed,
- 34:55Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like I was influenced by
- 34:56Speaker 1: these court So I get to the hood and I'm
- 34:59Speaker 1: telling everybody old Ca and gave me his number that
- 35:01Speaker 1: I'm calling him a hundred times and he ain't answered.
- 35:03Speaker 1: But what had got me this ship with Cam was
- 35:06Speaker 1: my mom was a job developer. So she worked at
- 35:08Speaker 1: this company in the hood that like helped people in
- 35:12Speaker 1: the hood get skills to go on job interviews. So
- 35:16Speaker 1: you you come into this program, you don't know how
- 35:18Speaker 1: to talk, you know, know, how I look a person
- 35:19Speaker 1: in their eyes, shake their hand. They teach you all
- 35:21Speaker 1: of that. They teaching you like skills like word word, uh,
- 35:25Speaker 1: whatever that ship is. I don't even know Microsoft word
- 35:27Speaker 1: all that ship. And this dude that he had helped
- 35:29Speaker 1: with he had came home from from jail, was like
- 35:32Speaker 1: an older dude from Cam Block, so he would always
- 35:35Speaker 1: he knew me because I used to come come after,
- 35:37Speaker 1: you know, after school, go see my mom, get some
- 35:39Speaker 1: money for lunch, shit like that. And one day he
- 35:41Speaker 1: asked me, like what I'm doing and I told him
- 35:43Speaker 1: and he's like, Kim told you, how are you. I'm
- 35:45Speaker 1: like yeah. He called Caim and he called and Kim
- 35:49Speaker 1: answered because I was calling him a hundred times, and
- 35:52Speaker 1: he called Kim and Kim answered, and he was like, Yo,
- 35:55Speaker 1: you know that kid that you met up at Rockefeller's
- 35:57Speaker 1: name ain't no. I had braids at the time he
- 35:58Speaker 1: got the Brais's like yeah, yeah, He's like yo, he
- 36:00Speaker 1: like look out for him. His mom looked out for me.
- 36:02Speaker 1: He was like I got you, I got you. And
- 36:04Speaker 1: that's how like Caim he ended up calling me. I
- 36:06Speaker 1: was working for diplomats for like two months wow, and
- 36:09Speaker 1: went back to Rockefeller. It was like I was doing well.
- 36:11Speaker 1: He had told like Cam had told the story in
- 36:13Speaker 1: the drink Champs that there might have been some sort
- 36:16Speaker 1: of animosity between him and Beanie. It was like, bro,
- 36:20Speaker 1: is that something you being so close to being? Like,
- 36:22Speaker 1: was that something that was real? Hell yeah, bro, they was, Yo,
- 36:25Speaker 1: let me tell you something all right. Look, so you
- 36:28Speaker 1: see how like right now, like Drake is the best,
- 36:31Speaker 1: like he great at subs, like he great at like
- 36:33Speaker 1: underlying ship. Yeah he might him and Hope might be
- 36:36Speaker 1: the two best. Yes, like you got to study that, bro,
- 36:40Speaker 1: Jay was the best. It's ship that I could tell
- 36:42Speaker 1: you that Jay talking about people that you would never
- 36:44Speaker 1: know because he used to tell like Chris Young. Chris
- 36:47Speaker 1: was really close to Ja, so he would hear some
- 36:50Speaker 1: people might say Jay got some flow, but listen, everybody
- 36:54Speaker 1: get me of course, of course, of course, but look
- 36:58Speaker 1: he would Chris would be like yo, like we'd being
- 37:00Speaker 1: in the in the room and J player ship and
- 37:02Speaker 1: then he'd go tell Chris some and chrisy be like, yo,
- 37:05Speaker 1: Jay said that line is about such and such a
- 37:08Speaker 1: So they was always throwing shots and ship, you know
- 37:10Speaker 1: what I mean, like little subtle shit. But yeah, it
- 37:12Speaker 1: ended up coming to a head, bro, because like, like no,
- 37:16Speaker 1: they didn't really know that like a lot of people
- 37:18Speaker 1: at Rockefeller didn't know. Jay didn't know I was from
- 37:20Speaker 1: Harlem until I got the tached on my hand because
- 37:22Speaker 1: I used to be a christ of them all the time.
- 37:23Speaker 1: He's like, I thought you was from Philly. So my
- 37:24Speaker 1: nickname was Hall in Philly. Yeah, they used to call
- 37:27Speaker 1: they didn't give me that nickname. It was Hall in
- 37:28Speaker 1: Philly because I used to be with the Philly dudes
- 37:29Speaker 1: all the time. But like it got a little when
- 37:32Speaker 1: he was Cam's right when it when it came to
- 37:35Speaker 1: that that executive position. Yeah, Beans wasn't jagging a ship.
- 37:40Speaker 1: I mean it was, but yeah, because it seemed as
- 37:42Speaker 1: if nobody, like like Cam be in the getting that
- 37:46Speaker 1: position at Rockefeller kind of hit everybody out of it.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I mean it would, yeah, it definitely would. Like you think,
- 37:52Speaker 1: all right, Bean's been here since ninety eight. Yeah, bleak
- 37:55Speaker 1: been there since before they had the logo. You know
- 37:58Speaker 1: what I'm saying. And here cut Kim. He been here
- 38:01Speaker 1: for two years. But Camp, I ain't gonna lie, and
- 38:03Speaker 1: Cam turned that ship up. Cam took full advantage of
- 38:06Speaker 1: his opportunity, you know what I mean. He took that
- 38:09Speaker 1: shit he was saying about how they made the office.
- 38:11Speaker 1: He made his own office, Like even even down to
- 38:14Speaker 1: coming in the office and ask me how much I
- 38:16Speaker 1: may get paid and he's like, I give you four
- 38:17Speaker 1: hundred dollars. And then I was in his I would
- 38:19Speaker 1: come to his crib. He had a crib in Jersey.
- 38:21Speaker 1: I was gonna go to like this condo he had
- 38:22Speaker 1: in Jersey and just burn CDs all day. Wow, you
- 38:25Speaker 1: know I mean mixtape, Yeah, the Diplomat mixtapes. I was burnt.
- 38:28Speaker 1: If you had a Diplomat mix tape, I probably burned
- 38:30Speaker 1: at least five thousand. You have the Tower, Yeah, the Tower, Yeah, Duke.
- 38:33Speaker 1: The guy had all them shits, like five of them
- 38:35Speaker 1: ships and they burning five at a time. And I'm
- 38:37Speaker 1: just but they got boring for me. I wanted to
- 38:39Speaker 1: be in the studio. So that's why I kind of
- 38:40Speaker 1: gave up on that ship. But you know, yeah, like
- 38:43Speaker 1: Cam turn that shit up for two years, and now
- 38:45Speaker 1: that makes sense. Somebody come. They put the work in
- 38:48Speaker 1: on the executive side where you break. Cam put Joel's
- 38:50Speaker 1: on his first single, his first two singles like if
- 38:53Speaker 1: you Wasn't from Harlem, listening to the DJ clue in
- 38:55Speaker 1: case Lay and Fucking who Else. Around that time, I
- 38:58Speaker 1: can't remember with DJ Envy, you didn't know who Jewell's
- 39:00Speaker 1: was like that, you know what I mean. But he
- 39:01Speaker 1: put him because Juel's Jewels was known for rapping in
- 39:04Speaker 1: the hood, you know what I mean. But he put
- 39:06Speaker 1: duels on on and broke him as an artist before
- 39:08Speaker 1: he had his first single. So he's doing the executive
- 39:11Speaker 1: side of things. So yeah, he deserved that position. But
- 39:13Speaker 1: that's a hard phillis well when you're Beans and yeah,
- 39:18Speaker 1: yeah you said that you were roommates when you live
- 39:21Speaker 1: with Beanie when he was on house arrest, and I
- 39:24Speaker 1: always have the shots and I got DJ Damagees from Philly.
- 39:28Speaker 1: We'll always butt heads on the Greatest of All Time
- 39:31Speaker 1: talks and he'll always put Beanie like in his top
- 39:33Speaker 1: ten and I'm like, bro, You're from Philly, so I
- 39:35Speaker 1: respect it and listen and listen like Beanie's got classics,
- 39:40Speaker 1: and I think he's historically underrated. In that conversation, absolutely,
- 39:44Speaker 1: Derek Angeletti said the really ship about Beans one time.
- 39:46Speaker 1: He's like, yo, he like a real life dinosaur. He
- 39:49Speaker 1: like you know how like you hear about it like
- 39:50Speaker 1: you hear his stories about the dinosaur. But if that
- 39:52Speaker 1: ship if a Raptor walked in his room right now,
- 39:54Speaker 1: everybody be like, oh shit, that's that's it. He's like
- 39:57Speaker 1: that's who he is. He like he a really like
- 39:59Speaker 1: not that and so you know how the Balancer of
- 40:01Speaker 1: he was like he old and not nothing like that.
- 40:02Speaker 1: He just was like it's like a myth until you
- 40:06Speaker 1: meet him. And I bro the what's that the Public
- 40:10Speaker 1: Enemy mixtape? I remember that Green Lantern was the DJ,
- 40:13Speaker 1: right yeah, I got yeah, I did that mixtape. I
- 40:16Speaker 1: learned I saw I saw that mixtape with the Swami.
- 40:19Speaker 1: I learned how to how I got my name bout
- 40:21Speaker 1: leg and everybody. We was in a crib. That's we
- 40:25Speaker 1: was in a crib and we was like I had
- 40:27Speaker 1: learned how to record, right like I learned pro tow.
- 40:29Speaker 1: Its just the basics of it. And he had this
- 40:32Speaker 1: freestyle of a Public Enemy beat. And then I was
- 40:34Speaker 1: just sitting in the crib one day and I was like, Yo,
- 40:36Speaker 1: you should call your ship like public Enemy. I said,
- 40:38Speaker 1: we should make like the It was a picture that
- 40:40Speaker 1: he we did for like a state property photo shoot,
- 40:43Speaker 1: and it was like it almost mimicked like the what
- 40:46Speaker 1: was that the Public Enemy logo? I was like, we
- 40:47Speaker 1: should make it like the logo, but just have you
- 40:50Speaker 1: in the joint. And he was like, all right, we're
- 40:51Speaker 1: gonna do it. And then the reason why we did
- 40:53Speaker 1: the ship with green Land is because we was listening
- 40:55Speaker 1: to champions Hit every day Green Lanterns mixtape, but him
- 40:58Speaker 1: and him and Kiss had in rec side. But Bro,
- 41:00Speaker 1: we was listening Beans. We just listening that shit every day.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Beings like, yah, I gotta, I gotta, I'll do kiss
- 41:05Speaker 1: Bro Like He's like, Yo, this kisshit is crazy. We gotta.
- 41:08Speaker 1: So we did. We did that, and I an artist,
- 41:10Speaker 1: you know I have a great make me and the crib.
- 41:12Speaker 1: You me and him in the crib? Bro? What because
- 41:14Speaker 1: that was uh, you know, I don't know what it
- 41:17Speaker 1: what it was about Beans? You know, I know he
- 41:19Speaker 1: had some issues with his voice later on, but like
- 41:22Speaker 1: you know, he had his legal problems, but it seems
- 41:24Speaker 1: like shit just kind of hit a wall for Beanie.
- 41:29Speaker 1: What do you think happened to like his career. I
- 41:32Speaker 1: think that the Rockefeller split up. I think well, I'll
- 41:36Speaker 1: say I'll say honestly, Bro, and Beans like he'll respect
- 41:41Speaker 1: this because like I love him, bro, like I'm Muslim.
- 41:43Speaker 1: I took my ship hot to his living room, Like
- 41:45Speaker 1: that's how close we are. We might not see each
- 41:46Speaker 1: other the time, but that's my brother life. I say,
- 41:49Speaker 1: from my perspective is that he never really took the
- 41:53Speaker 1: time to learn the business. Now, he was a great
- 41:56Speaker 1: asset to the business, but as far as like, I
- 41:59Speaker 1: always had this thing in my mind where I felt
- 42:01Speaker 1: like when Jay said he got rid of was gonna
- 42:03Speaker 1: get rid of Rockefeller, he would have gave all the
- 42:05Speaker 1: Philly he loved him bro Like, I seen Jay show
- 42:08Speaker 1: more favoritism to the Philly dudes than the Brooklyn dudes sometimes,
- 42:11Speaker 1: you know what I mean, through like bleak Lives, I
- 42:13Speaker 1: have felt that way. Though from a fan's perspective, I
- 42:16Speaker 1: think Jay was just he really loved like the grittiness
- 42:19Speaker 1: of their rap style and how real it was and
- 42:21Speaker 1: their perspective. But think about it, everyone, I mean, young
- 42:23Speaker 1: young guns dropped out, Freeway dropped out, like you know,
- 42:27Speaker 1: I think I just think that beans and then not.
- 42:29Speaker 1: I don't want to just say he didn't learn it.
- 42:31Speaker 1: I felt like, you know, he didn't have I can't
- 42:33Speaker 1: say he didn't have the right personnel because it's people
- 42:35Speaker 1: that I know that was around him. But again, I
- 42:38Speaker 1: was a kid at that time. I can't speak for
- 42:40Speaker 1: how they was handling business because I just when I
- 42:43Speaker 1: wasn't supposed to be in the room, I walk out.
- 42:45Speaker 1: Still to this day, Bro, if I if I came
- 42:47Speaker 1: into your studio and you was having a conversation, I
- 42:48Speaker 1: don't even walk in the room. I know, like if
- 42:50Speaker 1: you tell, if you give me the if I if
- 42:52Speaker 1: it's permissible for me to be there, I'll be there.
- 42:54Speaker 1: But I stayed at my place. So a lot of
- 42:57Speaker 1: shit that was going on. When certain conversations be had,
- 43:00Speaker 1: I walk out because it ain't my place to be
- 43:02Speaker 1: in there. So I yeah, I think with beans, at
- 43:04Speaker 1: least from a fan's perspective perspective, it just kind of
- 43:07Speaker 1: felt like he didn't leave the streets all the way alone.
- 43:11Speaker 1: And that's another to his detriment. Possibly this is why
- 43:15Speaker 1: I be saying about the streets. Man, it's like we
- 43:20Speaker 1: you love the streets when you've growing up, well when
- 43:22Speaker 1: you when you're young, and like if you live in
- 43:23Speaker 1: that life, but when you get older. But I guarantee
- 43:27Speaker 1: everybody and I got you. I got homies that like
- 43:29Speaker 1: did fifteen years in prison, biggest gangster in the jail,
- 43:33Speaker 1: biggest gangster in the street and they like, man, I'm
- 43:36Speaker 1: not doing no like I made a mistake. What I mean,
- 43:39Speaker 1: I can't change it. But that shit is a mistake, Bro,
- 43:41Speaker 1: and I and the marketing aspect of music that involves
- 43:46Speaker 1: the streets is it looks it looks cool, it looks
- 43:49Speaker 1: cool to you facing and and also it helps sell records.
- 43:53Speaker 1: It does, but it does. But I don't know, Man,
- 43:56Speaker 1: that shit is. Music is a hard thing for me
- 43:59Speaker 1: to deal with sometimes cause I be feeling like sometimes
- 44:01Speaker 1: that I'm I'm a part of the shit that I
- 44:04Speaker 1: don't agree with a lot. Because as much as I'm
- 44:06Speaker 1: saying all of this like righteous sound and shit, I
- 44:09Speaker 1: still love songs about people killing people, of course, you
- 44:11Speaker 1: know what I mean. Like, I just I don't know.
- 44:14Speaker 1: It's like, you know when people say, oh you, what's
- 44:17Speaker 1: the word contradicting? Being contradicted and being a hypocrite, hypocritical shit,
- 44:24Speaker 1: being a hypocrite. I feel like that's almost a part
- 44:26Speaker 1: of being human, because like you feel different times, you
- 44:28Speaker 1: feel different ways of different times. You don't always Sometimes, Bro,
- 44:31Speaker 1: I wake up and I want the world to end,
- 44:32Speaker 1: and sometimes I want to save the world, you know
- 44:34Speaker 1: what I mean? But it's just how I deal with it,
- 44:36Speaker 1: especially being in the music industry. Like it said, you
- 44:38Speaker 1: could totally feel that, like man, like you know, I
- 44:42Speaker 1: don't like the way this shit is going, but still
- 44:44Speaker 1: enjoy a record that like the Pop Smoke shit bro
- 44:48Speaker 1: That shit made me not want to sign no gang
- 44:51Speaker 1: banger ever again. I never I mean I didn't sign
- 44:53Speaker 1: Pop Smoke, but the guys that he was signed to,
- 44:56Speaker 1: like Rico Beats, that's one of my closest in music,
- 45:00Speaker 1: like and beyond music. That's my man. Like he a producer,
- 45:02Speaker 1: but me and Rico we met at a time before
- 45:05Speaker 1: I even met East, and we was trying to like
- 45:07Speaker 1: we just befriended each other and we was trying to
- 45:09Speaker 1: figure out what I thing was gonna be. And then
- 45:11Speaker 1: I had got East. He still was producing, he had
- 45:14Speaker 1: got his job at Death Gym. We signed a few acts,
- 45:17Speaker 1: they didn't work. Shit was And then when he found Pop,
- 45:21Speaker 1: it felt like a win for me because seeing him
- 45:23Speaker 1: so happy and seeing him now he's buying jewelry every week.
- 45:27Speaker 1: It was such a celebration. And then like I only
- 45:30Speaker 1: met Pop one time, but like I had a conversation
- 45:32Speaker 1: with him in a DM one time, and like just
- 45:36Speaker 1: seeing the trajectory he was on, and he saluted me
- 45:38Speaker 1: forgetting the job at Asylumn. He like, yo, big bro,
- 45:40Speaker 1: Like that's amazing because he told me he was to
- 45:41Speaker 1: watch every day struggle. He's like, that's dope. And it's
- 45:44Speaker 1: that third when that shit happened with him. I didn't
- 45:46Speaker 1: even know the kid personally, but that shit happened, I
- 45:47Speaker 1: was like, all right, what are we doing with And
- 45:50Speaker 1: to be fair, he didn't even get killed over no
- 45:53Speaker 1: gang shit, no, but he got killed from that lifestyle lifestyle.
- 45:57Speaker 1: So it's just like, what the fuck are we What
- 46:00Speaker 1: are your yeah, I mean, what are your thoughts about?
- 46:02Speaker 1: You know? Because right now I just I just spent
- 46:04Speaker 1: the whole week out New York and I was shooting
- 46:05Speaker 1: with Dusty Locine, Ross Wish and Ron Suno. But the
- 46:10Speaker 1: whole Brooklyn gang ship is crazy, bro. I mean, I'll
- 46:14Speaker 1: tell you this. When it comes to gangs, Brooklyn always
- 46:16Speaker 1: been crazy because like when when Blood, like when Blood
- 46:19Speaker 1: popped off in New York and Cribbman popped off in
- 46:21Speaker 1: New York, like first of all in New York. But
- 46:24Speaker 1: these guys are getting like like if you listen to
- 46:26Speaker 1: these records like between the the woo's and the and
- 46:31Speaker 1: all that shit. I don't know. So look, I'm just
- 46:32Speaker 1: speaking like from when I was when I was a teenager, bro,
- 46:35Speaker 1: Like if you was a crip in New York, it
- 46:37Speaker 1: was tough because New York is a blood like you know, Yeah,
- 46:40Speaker 1: I always think of New York as like wrong. I
- 46:41Speaker 1: just think of Jim Jones like l A. L A
- 46:45Speaker 1: is a cryp for sure, city New York. But the
- 46:48Speaker 1: thing about the ship in New York is in prison,
- 46:50Speaker 1: bloods run everything. Crips ain't the same with the crip.
- 46:53Speaker 1: So the thing is is like for me on the
- 46:55Speaker 1: outside looking in, I see what I seen in the
- 47:00Speaker 1: nineties now, like in the nineties when game ship popped
- 47:03Speaker 1: off in New York because it was coming from out
- 47:04Speaker 1: of jails. Bloods came from out of jail. When it
- 47:07Speaker 1: came to the streets, it was bad because the people
- 47:10Speaker 1: was adapting a jail mentality before going to jail, so
- 47:14Speaker 1: and and how they acted militant all that shit. And
- 47:17Speaker 1: then like seeing these kids now, I just be like, yo, bro,
- 47:21Speaker 1: even when I think about these like when when I
- 47:24Speaker 1: be talking to dudes from from La Yeah, and like
- 47:26Speaker 1: some of them like they they gangsters respect gangsters around glow,
- 47:30Speaker 1: but like they a lot of them that don't jack,
- 47:33Speaker 1: like you know, bloods or crips over there. I'd be like, Yo,
- 47:36Speaker 1: that's y'all fault. Like that's your kids, bro, Like that's
- 47:39Speaker 1: that's offspring of you. So it's like seeing this ship, bro,
- 47:43Speaker 1: it just a lot of it rubs me the wrong way.
- 47:44Speaker 1: In Brooklyn, you got little kids getting hit with strays
- 47:47Speaker 1: and ship. That shit just happened while we were out there.
- 47:49Speaker 1: We were just in uh where where did it happen at? No, No,
- 47:54Speaker 1: I was in Brooklyn. There was some some some kid
- 47:57Speaker 1: got hit. There was a shootout and some I think
- 47:59Speaker 1: little girl in the chest, yeah right, little boys something Yeah,
- 48:03Speaker 1: right outside of a liquor store. Oh no, bro. But
- 48:05Speaker 1: that's the thing. It's like I don't know because you know,
- 48:08Speaker 1: I don't. I don't sit on like I'm born in
- 48:10Speaker 1: eighty two. My generation be acting like we sit on
- 48:13Speaker 1: this this pedestal where we had everything right when we didn't.
- 48:16Speaker 1: You know, of course there was just not social media.
- 48:19Speaker 1: It was not social media. But it's like even the
- 48:20Speaker 1: rationalization of like why things were done, it's still don't
- 48:23Speaker 1: make no sense. But it's like now, it's like it's
- 48:26Speaker 1: even I think it's even worse now because it's like
- 48:29Speaker 1: the name recognition amongst your peers. I got a fourteen
- 48:34Speaker 1: I got a ninety year old daughter. I got a
- 48:35Speaker 1: fourteen year old son. So it's like I be telling
- 48:37Speaker 1: my son all the time, bro, like like our a
- 48:40Speaker 1: friend that went to jail for attempting murder and he
- 48:42Speaker 1: just was telling me, he like, owayne, I belonged to
- 48:44Speaker 1: myself for the first time. He just got off of
- 48:46Speaker 1: papers and he like, I just I belong to myself
- 48:48Speaker 1: for the first three years. How crazy is that? And
- 48:51Speaker 1: I'm telling my son, I'm like, Yo, do you hear it?
- 48:52Speaker 1: I say, Bro, I tell my son, like, yo, he
- 48:55Speaker 1: shot somebody when he was eighteen and he's just forty
- 48:57Speaker 1: and he's now finally free of the system. He's forty. Bro.
- 49:01Speaker 1: I'm like, you don't, that's not a path you see
- 49:03Speaker 1: because his friend, Yo, Bro, my son certain kids that
- 49:06Speaker 1: was on his basketball au team. I didn't see any
- 49:08Speaker 1: instagrams they be carrying him as this shit. I'm be like,
- 49:10Speaker 1: this is crazy fuck And I don't even know why,
- 49:13Speaker 1: but I know that a lot It plays into the
- 49:15Speaker 1: music and the lifestyle. And it's a lot of misinformation
- 49:18Speaker 1: that that spread. I mean, it's a lot of misinformation.
- 49:21Speaker 1: I just be trying to do my part because I
- 49:22Speaker 1: feel like you change the world by changing one person's perspective.
- 49:26Speaker 1: Is that something that you still kind of carry with
- 49:27Speaker 1: you as far as like the type of artists you
- 49:29Speaker 1: look to look to sign because you said, like after
- 49:31Speaker 1: Pop had died, you kind of were like, I don't
- 49:33Speaker 1: want to but I love authenticity. You also want to
- 49:36Speaker 1: do your job. I want to do my job, but
- 49:39Speaker 1: that's the tough thing about being in the music. You
- 49:40Speaker 1: gotta do it all. Yeah, you got it. Like now.
- 49:44Speaker 1: At the same time, like from a business standpoint, the
- 49:48Speaker 1: problem with businessman. Business ain't got nothing to do with
- 49:51Speaker 1: feelings or morals. There's nothing to do with morals, has
- 49:54Speaker 1: nothing to do with feelings because the same like, that's
- 49:57Speaker 1: why people that be vegan be tweaking out about chickens,
- 50:00Speaker 1: you feel me like, because they feelings and their morals
- 50:03Speaker 1: is in it when they're talking about life. Some people
- 50:05Speaker 1: don't think like that, but I feel like rap is
- 50:08Speaker 1: almost like a fucking slaughter house. Yeah, it's crazy, it is,
- 50:11Speaker 1: bro it is because it's like I'll just be on
- 50:14Speaker 1: some ship like this, Like I'll be trying to tell
- 50:16Speaker 1: every young artist that I know be in the street.
- 50:17Speaker 1: I'll be like, yo, listen, bro, Like you don't want
- 50:19Speaker 1: to go down that path. Bro. Like even with beans
- 50:22Speaker 1: when he got the shot that he took that he
- 50:26Speaker 1: lost his voice, it wasn't even intended for him. Were
- 50:29Speaker 1: you around at that time? I wasn't around him at
- 50:31Speaker 1: that time. I mean we always, I always, I always
- 50:33Speaker 1: speak to him. I speak to him once a year
- 50:35Speaker 1: at least, But like, I wasn't around him at that time.
- 50:39Speaker 1: I'm also like younger than him, so like I mean
- 50:41Speaker 1: he did. I didn't really have too much influence on
- 50:43Speaker 1: telling him what to do, of course, But at the
- 50:45Speaker 1: same time, it's like that wasn't even intended for him.
- 50:47Speaker 1: But you see how shit happens just being around that ship.
- 50:51Speaker 1: You never know. You can wake up to you can
- 50:52Speaker 1: wake up today and it could be you gotta you
- 50:54Speaker 1: gotta watch, you gotta watch the You gotta watch what
- 50:56Speaker 1: you put out in his world. Bro, you gotta watch
- 50:58Speaker 1: what you put out in his world. That's a fact.
- 51:01Speaker 1: Were you around during the Kiss Beanie ship? Yeah, you
- 51:04Speaker 1: know the craziest shit is I always, I mean, listen,
- 51:07Speaker 1: oh wow, I always. I've talked to Kiss about it.
- 51:09Speaker 1: I've talked to Beanie about it, and I always say
- 51:11Speaker 1: that that's probably the closest back and forth because I
- 51:16Speaker 1: depending on where someone's from or who you ask or
- 51:18Speaker 1: who they're I thought both of them one. I thought
- 51:21Speaker 1: that we was going to die or we was gonna
- 51:23Speaker 1: kill one of them. I switched because at the end,
- 51:25Speaker 1: because because at that time, nobody was realer than Beanie Siegull.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Let me on the Locks and Yonkers. Beans. I love Beans.
- 51:32Speaker 1: Beans had us train us the Young Guns like I was.
- 51:36Speaker 1: You could basically say the Young Guns was a gang
- 51:37Speaker 1: within state property bro because they was from their own
- 51:40Speaker 1: part of town in Philly. They had us train Bro
- 51:43Speaker 1: like like Beans had us trained and I. I used
- 51:46Speaker 1: to really sit here, like, oh, Jade, Kiss is one
- 51:49Speaker 1: of my favorite reps, Like the Locks broke. I don't
- 51:51Speaker 1: know the man I would be without the Locks. Real
- 51:54Speaker 1: ship I'm talking about we all the streets is like
- 51:57Speaker 1: the words is in my DNA and who I am
- 51:58Speaker 1: as a person, So like I used to be sitting
- 52:01Speaker 1: here like we had a we had a we had
- 52:02Speaker 1: a situation one time with them though happened. We was
- 52:06Speaker 1: in you remember Sonny, she used to be on ninety seven.
- 52:10Speaker 1: She's Sunday like h G TV show food and all that.
- 52:13Speaker 1: But Sonny had a birthday party in Brooklyn and and
- 52:18Speaker 1: she had this birthday party in Brooklyn and Jada was
- 52:20Speaker 1: hosting it. But she wanted the young guys at the time,
- 52:23Speaker 1: we had can Start, Won't Stop, so we they was
- 52:25Speaker 1: hot that everybody was booking them, so she wanted to
- 52:27Speaker 1: do Can't Start, Won't Stop. So we we had a
- 52:30Speaker 1: show in v A, and they was like, by the
- 52:33Speaker 1: time we get there, maybe kissing them and be out
- 52:34Speaker 1: of there. So we get up to we get the VA.
- 52:38Speaker 1: I mean, we get to Brooklyn from va and some
- 52:42Speaker 1: Philly dudes came and all that ship or whatever and
- 52:45Speaker 1: pauls and uh that was crazy. But we get there
- 52:53Speaker 1: and kissing. Somebody from Sunny's team came to our car
- 52:56Speaker 1: and was like, hey, jad kiss is still here. Kuja
- 53:00Speaker 1: wait until he leaves to come in like and they
- 53:03Speaker 1: was like, yo, we don't want no problems. So Chris
- 53:05Speaker 1: was like yeah right, and then Chris sat there and
- 53:07Speaker 1: while we're sitting there, like all these cars pull up
- 53:11Speaker 1: and we see like jay Hood get out. Fucking Styles
- 53:14Speaker 1: was locked up at the time, but jay Hood was there,
- 53:17Speaker 1: a fucking chic and a bunch of dudes, right, So
- 53:21Speaker 1: Chris was like, fuck that, we're going in there, right.
- 53:24Speaker 1: So they they go into the they going to the club.
- 53:30Speaker 1: They're all walking out with kiss and uh Chris, Chris
- 53:34Speaker 1: and Eve manager was like, yo, don't say nothing, Like,
- 53:36Speaker 1: don't say nothing of them. Let them get ahead, yo.
- 53:38Speaker 1: They came outside and we on the line way to
- 53:40Speaker 1: get searched. I don't know who it was, but one
- 53:43Speaker 1: of them was like, man, fuck all that deep block nigga.
- 53:45Speaker 1: What your niggas will do? Right? So then we get
- 53:47Speaker 1: into this spat going back and forth and then like
- 53:50Speaker 1: Chris is standing there, he getting searched in the like
- 53:52Speaker 1: jay Hood, him, him and jay Hood is like saying
- 53:55Speaker 1: shit through each other and all that, like this ain't
- 53:57Speaker 1: no social media. Nobody's seen this happen. We get in
- 53:59Speaker 1: the room, we get into the studio and were getting there.
- 54:04Speaker 1: I don't know what to this dude from Philly who
- 54:06Speaker 1: he was. I seen him one time that day. I
- 54:08Speaker 1: never seen him again. It was all of us in
- 54:10Speaker 1: the room. He said. It was like fifteen of us
- 54:12Speaker 1: in the room. He said, yo, who and he ain't
- 54:13Speaker 1: bring a burner? Like four or five people raise their hand.
- 54:16Speaker 1: He said, I got burner for everybody who ain't bring one.
- 54:19Speaker 1: He bro, I swear, I thought we was gonna die
- 54:22Speaker 1: that night. Man. He like, Yo, when we come outside,
- 54:25Speaker 1: we're not letting nothing. We're going all the way right.
- 54:28Speaker 1: I'm like what, I'm like the fuck? I'm like, all right,
- 54:32Speaker 1: did he give you a burner? I'm not gonna say
- 54:34Speaker 1: if what he gave me or he didn't. Okay, okay,
- 54:36Speaker 1: But we walk outside. I think by that time they
- 54:42Speaker 1: had left, and then we go to baseline. We had fun.
- 54:45Speaker 1: That was it. But like, damn, bro, I thought like
- 54:48Speaker 1: we had a couple. Yeah, we had a couple, like little.
- 54:51Speaker 1: The crazy thing about that is like I didn't know.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I didn't know Jada kiss at the time. Jada kiss
- 54:54Speaker 1: my man. I love kiss his son j One, that's
- 54:57Speaker 1: my man. I love him, chic all of them bro
- 54:58Speaker 1: like Styles. Ironically, when Styles and Styles came home, who
- 55:04Speaker 1: called my phone? I think Green Lantin called my phone
- 55:08Speaker 1: and Styles on the phone. He's like, y'all got Styles
- 55:11Speaker 1: be on the phone, and he like he won't to
- 55:14Speaker 1: talk to Mac, and I put them on the phone.
- 55:16Speaker 1: They spoke on my phone, you know what I mean.
- 55:17Speaker 1: And then from there, years later, me and Styles we
- 55:21Speaker 1: built our brotherhood. I love Styles, I love his wife,
- 55:24Speaker 1: his son. Yeah, you know what I mean. Like it's
- 55:26Speaker 1: just crazy how life works out. But yeah, it's a
- 55:28Speaker 1: few times, bro. But I always think back to that
- 55:30Speaker 1: time that Jada went to the power show in Philly,
- 55:33Speaker 1: like the big Summer Jam or whatever. Yeah, yeah, we
- 55:36Speaker 1: did that. We did that before Jay and I's did
- 55:39Speaker 1: they ship Nobody the same thing at ninety seven Summer
- 55:42Speaker 1: Jam in New York. We did it at Powerhouse. Okay,
- 55:45Speaker 1: so the thing was we did kiss, was doing Powerhouse
- 55:49Speaker 1: in Philly. In Philly, Yeah, nobody knew Beans was dead.
- 55:53Speaker 1: Beans put on a Halloween mass and he walked out
- 55:55Speaker 1: on the stage and when he was just at the
- 55:58Speaker 1: same show, not not the one you talking about when
- 56:01Speaker 1: he dissed them. This is years later. That happened in
- 56:04Speaker 1: like two. This happened in like five, when five, when
- 56:08Speaker 1: Beans came home, we do Powerhouse and Kiss. This is
- 56:11Speaker 1: what I'm saying. People be thinking that Jay took everything
- 56:15Speaker 1: from them, But like Jay did, I declare war. After
- 56:17Speaker 1: that when he brought out nas So when Beans, it
- 56:20Speaker 1: was on Halloween, we came out Beans. He opened up
- 56:24Speaker 1: his jacket and everybody's in the aspe chain and he
- 56:26Speaker 1: took the mask off and then they did reservoir dogs.
- 56:28Speaker 1: That's the first time that they had done something together.
- 56:31Speaker 1: This is before Jay and Nis reconciled they ship. So
- 56:33Speaker 1: that was when they reconciled their ship. That's when they
- 56:36Speaker 1: reconciled they ship. But they had talked prior they reconciled
- 56:38Speaker 1: their ship. When when when Beans had came home, do
- 56:42Speaker 1: you remember, like uh man, just that back and forth
- 56:47Speaker 1: just bars wise was so crazy, like two freestyles were
- 56:50Speaker 1: so crazy, Like no, but you don't remember all the
- 56:52Speaker 1: ones in between. Nah, I just remember the two big
- 56:55Speaker 1: ones because I mean, as I was on Naster download
- 56:57Speaker 1: D when he said when Beans is like he's said,
- 57:00Speaker 1: this cat still live in his mother house and my
- 57:03Speaker 1: basement bigger than his mother house. And I ain't talking
- 57:06Speaker 1: about my mother house on my brother house. I'm talking
- 57:09Speaker 1: about the other house. You ain't never hear that, nah, bro. Now,
- 57:14Speaker 1: they was going crazy. They was going my favorite this
- 57:18Speaker 1: and all of that was styles on Wait a minute, yeah,
- 57:21Speaker 1: I feel like like at that time, unless MP had
- 57:25Speaker 1: gotten into a bee for somebody, it was like probably
- 57:27Speaker 1: the too craziest like people you would think were someone
- 57:30Speaker 1: someone's gonna die. Yeah, I know, I really, Bro, I was.
- 57:33Speaker 1: It's like it's like it's like being on a battlefield
- 57:37Speaker 1: almost like I don't know what it is to be
- 57:39Speaker 1: on a battlefield in war, but I know, Bro, Like
- 57:41Speaker 1: we came into a lot of clothes, Like I love
- 57:45Speaker 1: state property all y'all because y'all put my life in
- 57:47Speaker 1: danger mad times. I love all of them though, but Bro,
- 57:50Speaker 1: working with them was dangerous. Bro, what was the original
- 57:54Speaker 1: like origin of their issue? Who stay property of? Yeah?
- 57:57Speaker 1: Of kissing Beanie? I don't know. I don't fucking know.
- 58:01Speaker 1: I have no idea, Bro, I have no idea. I
- 58:03Speaker 1: just knew that whatever whatever when I worked at when
- 58:07Speaker 1: I worked with beans in them, whatever they was with,
- 58:09Speaker 1: you better be with that. Whatever he on, you better
- 58:11Speaker 1: be on that too. You ain't you can't be around
- 58:13Speaker 1: us if you ain't so crazy too, because talking to
- 58:15Speaker 1: damn it, she was always like, dude, everyone's favorite rapper
- 58:17Speaker 1: that is not being Seagull from Philly and that era
- 58:19Speaker 1: was the kiss Absolutely he was like he was like
- 58:21Speaker 1: the biggest dude in Philly, like people love kiss is
- 58:27Speaker 1: like fucking. I would not call him a guy. I
- 58:30Speaker 1: don't use that term with people with men. But like
- 58:32Speaker 1: he was, like yeah, Bro, he was. I would just
- 58:37Speaker 1: say everybody that come from that error, Bro, Jada kissed
- 58:39Speaker 1: me is a lot to us if you was born
- 58:40Speaker 1: in the eighties and you grew up in the nineties. Bro.
- 58:43Speaker 1: The whole locks though, Bro, like the Locks man, Like,
- 58:46Speaker 1: like my tattoo on my neck, it stands for respect
- 58:49Speaker 1: over money. Style said that shit in a freestyle. That's
- 58:51Speaker 1: why I tattooed that shit on my neck. I live
- 58:54Speaker 1: by their words, bro, because you know it was the
- 58:55Speaker 1: Locks for me was this It's like I'm coming outside,
- 58:59Speaker 1: I don't have the relate ship with my father that
- 59:01Speaker 1: I should have, and I'm going to school and coming
- 59:05Speaker 1: home and trying to navigate life as a teenager in
- 59:08Speaker 1: the nineties when the streets is crazy. I listened to
- 59:10Speaker 1: the Locks all day. They teaching me about honoring cold
- 59:13Speaker 1: and all that shit. Aside from what I'm learning with
- 59:16Speaker 1: my homies, you know what I'm saying, Like they taught
- 59:18Speaker 1: me honoring Cold like their music, so they mean everything
- 59:21Speaker 1: to us, Like, however, Houston people feel for fucking one
- 59:26Speaker 1: being PIMPSI for U GK. Yeah, that's how New York
- 59:29Speaker 1: if you was born at that time, that's how we
- 59:30Speaker 1: feel about the Locks. Locks is an so that's the
- 59:34Speaker 1: highest And I love Wutin Clan to death, but they're
- 59:37Speaker 1: not the same for me as the Locks. And yeah,
- 59:40Speaker 1: I love the Loes. Yeah, the Locks definitely had more
- 59:44Speaker 1: I feel like practical life lessons absolutely bro absolutely in
- 59:48Speaker 1: their music. We were talking earlier. We were talking about
- 59:51Speaker 1: our love for Loupe. I was talking about like my
- 59:53Speaker 1: favorite rappers, which is different than the greatest Rappers list. Yeah,
- 59:56Speaker 1: and my favorite rapper list always pisses people off. But
- 59:58Speaker 1: you were like, yo, I had Loupe in my top
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: five for a minutes at some point in time, Like
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: who else is in your top five? It always changes,
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: Like right now, who's your top five favorite rappers? Right
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: all time favorite? Right now? This is it, right now,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: the best, right now, just right now, like that you
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: actually fuck with, not not like that I actually fun
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: with all right, So look I'll be taking like I
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: ain't on front, bro. I never met Drinke and we
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: we ain't the best of friends. Drake that might not
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: like me too much, but whatever, Drake the best. He
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: the best right now, Rapper, that's fair? After that ship, Rapper,
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: I gotta put I put a little baby in there.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: Gotta give a little baby in there. And this is
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: the first time I've ever done like a current drink
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: because my top five is always my top five all
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: the time. But I put like, hmmm, rapper. See, I
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: don't know where to put him at, but I gotta
- 1:00:58Speaker 1: put Conway in there. Conway is my favorite guy in Grisella,
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: and I love all three, yeah, but not Conway. There's
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: something about Knyway's ability to convey pain on songs that like,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: it's Conway. You know what I love about Conway? Conway
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: he knows how to flow, he knows how to like,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: he got punch lines, he gott he got got it all, man,
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: he got it all. But Benny. But I feel like
- 1:01:20Speaker 1: right there, it's certain versus that Benny got thats just
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: like guys don't bleed. That's that verse on that Benny
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: is is like god level MC as well. They're both Jedi. Yeah,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: they're both Jedi. See, I don't so I don't have
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: like like what I'm saying like, I don't have a
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: ranking of like rappers right now because it's like, all right,
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: what about the all time list? Do you say that
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: that's pro consistent? Yeah? This is your favorite? Yeah, not
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: like Jay all the time. Biggie uh J biggie nas
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Wayne and Kendrick, thank you, thank you for the Kendrick love.
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: But I ain't gonna lie. I'm I'm I'm boycott and
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: Kendrick because he hasn't put out. Let me tell you
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: something you can't You can't imagine that aunt of fun
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: would I do with academics, bro? That amount of arguments
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I have people Kendrick. I have screaming matches about Kendrick
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Lamar and Lebron James all the time. But Kendrick, but like,
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: I just love especially you being in New York. I
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: bet you got heads with hell people about Kendrick. I
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: feel like, not really, just because the thing about New
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: York is, see you got Wayne over Kendrick Hell. Yeah?
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: Really yeah, bro, Wayne, Yo, this is the thing, man,
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: It's like, and I'm my thing is Kendrick's never missed.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Wayne's missed a lot. Missing is all subjective, right, not really?
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: But Wayne's got some black eyes on this. He does,
- 1:02:47Speaker 1: but he's got classes, but so do Tupac. I got
- 1:02:50Speaker 1: a lot of a lot of misses. Yeah, yeah, there's
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: a lot, which is why, which is why Tupac's not
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: in my top he's in my top tennis. But but
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: like I got, I to put Wayne in Tupac in
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: the same tier, nahn. Wayne is a better, way better
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: rapper than Tupac. He's a way better rapper. I don't.
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: It's people that's probably sent me death threats for that.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck. Yo, listen, I've someone threat
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: I said Tupac was overrated as an MC. I didn't
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: say his music was overrated. I'm a huge POC fan,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: huge had posters of them on my walls. Did but
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: I said that ship. I forget what interview was. And
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: motherfuckers was dming my wife threatening to kill her dog.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: She had to make her page private. So so so look,
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: so people don't play about Tupac. Now, people don't play
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: about Tupac. But I love Tupac too. But at the
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: same time, it's like I stack people getting their feelings
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: about Pac in their fit. It's two people, Pac and Kobe.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: You can't say nothing about because people I love Kobe's
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: one of my favorite I love Kobe too. But I'm
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: just saying, like, you know, Kobe fans don't people I
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: don't know they not because I'm one of them people people,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: I'm one of them. I'm definitely not problem. I'm definitely
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: I'm definitely one of them people that was buying Kobe's
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: when they was on sale and nobody was wearing for
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: nobody was wearing them. Yeah I was. I actually got
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: a pair of elite Kobe's like that because the dude
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: that a house of who was like, Yo, you're the
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: only person I ever seen body shits and wearing you
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: can get him? And it was only like ten peers.
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: But yeah, the Tupac Tupac fans are very emotional. They are,
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: but like I feel like, but Pak is a great artist.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: But see all time. It's hard to do all time
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: because I gotta put Kanye. I don't know if he
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: ain't Kanye is, But Kanye is in a class of
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: Michael Jackson. I don't think that Tupac's in the class Mark.
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: I think Kanye is in classic Let me ask you
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: if you agree this. I think Kanye has the best
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: discography in hip hop history? Fuck, who's got a better
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: disco history? Yes? Who's got a better discography? I think
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: the only miss was Jesus Is King, And I mean yeah,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: he had some Jesus trash as juice for sure that
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: he could have went. He could have went like O
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: D Traps, like trapped soul meets gospel, and it would
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: have been hard. I ran through that album once and
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: never touched it again. Kanye fan, how you mess up
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: with clips on? We ain't gonna go there, all right?
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: So look so yeah, I ain't gonna front. He might
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: got it? Bro? Who else got I mean? I think
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: I think close. I think the closest is Kendrick because
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: Kendrick has no but Kendrick don't have the amount. Bro. Listen,
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: Kendrick don't have the amount. Take Out Classics, take away Classics,
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: and ghost Faces up there too. Take Out Classics, take
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: out the classic word. Games got a nice discography. Game
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: is one of the best rappers ever. If I wanted
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: somebody to rap for twenty four hours straight because I
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: was trying to win a prize, I'll go the game.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Game rapper all day about anything but a right. I
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: love it, bro and I can't run away from it. Bro,
- 1:05:44Speaker 1: gott stop playing with Drake. Bro see nah, Bro, I'm
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: gonna keep it. Listen, And it's hard for me. It
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: took me a long time because it's hard to listen.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: It's hard to put As a jay Z fan, it's
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: hard to put anybody on the same level as Drake's
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: up there. I equate Drake to the jay Z shit
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: like this, Mike, to me, Michael Joan the greatest player
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: person ever touches basketball, right, But Steph Stephen Stephen Curry
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: is the greatest person to ever shoot a basketball. Right.
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: That's how I equate the Drake whole ship, because it's
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: like and not that I'm Drake's the greatest hit maker ever,
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: but this is what I'm saying. But but, but at
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: the same time, I don't think anyone can perform more
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: hits in a row than Drake. You know, it's the
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: realist ship. You haven't been with a joke show. Of course,
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: I only been the one, And I'm kind of a
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Drake hater low key like historically, I've never been a hater.
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: I may not agree with his actions, I'll say that
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: I don't hate him. I wouldn't say a hater, but
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: I have of him as an artist. I don't know him.
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: I just don't. But Bro, I went to the Summer
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: sixteen ship. I went to the Summer sixteen ship with
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: him and him the future yep, I remember that Bro
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: in Madison Square guard like floating, Yeah, because that wasn't
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: the Ferrari, it was m Bro. I was dead. I
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: was in in the Rise of right. Everybody's and everybody
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: industry is in the Riser. I was standing next to
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: Charlomagne and me, and Charlomagne was like, damn right. Then
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: he did this ship like you know you've been you
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: know how Jay used to do this shit where he
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: used to be like he plays songs and cut him off,
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: play songs, cut them off. Bro. So I was waiting
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: for Drake to do worst Behavior. I'm like, well, now,
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: oh you remember he did that during that show where
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: he's like it was like I couldn't believe it. No,
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: I couldn't believe it. I s would have got you know,
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: he did, And that was I was waiting for worst behavior. Yo.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: He put on worst Behavior, and I'm and the great
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: thing about being in the rises you can see everything right.
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: And I was looking he played that ship for fifteen second.
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: He's like, not fucking turn that shit off. I was
- 1:07:35Speaker 1: like what And I can't remember what song he played
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: after that, but I was like, nah, bro, like, well
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: that's like on the tour he did with Migos where
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: he was running across the fucking basketball basketball he was
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: just run quick. He just did quick features like tan
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: in a row and like was like, I just want
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: to remind y'all like, oh yeah, it was all, but
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: this is what I'm saying. I think like the thing
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: is like all right, look yeah, if you a Jay
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: fan and you I'm a Biggie fan J fan. We
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: also didn't mention Jay's best just discography and hip hop history,
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: which is crazy. He's no but he he's him and
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: Kanye for being fair or Drake, but I put Kanye
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: gets a slight edge just because of producing. He gets
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: a slight edge, right, I agree? But yeah, J right, Like,
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: because I was having this debate with academics and he
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: was talking about hits and he was like, where I'm
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: from is not a hit? I'm like, how's it not
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: a hit? Right? I'm like, because bro, see you, I
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: understand how he could say that But the reason why
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: he says that is because you in the era with
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: fifty cent have fucked up everything with the sales shit,
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: where y'all equate how you interpret music based on what
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: it sells. So when well, I didn't know what gold
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: of platinum even meant at all. I didn't know that
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: it meant selling a million when I was a kid,
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Like think about fucking dark and hell is hot, bro,
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: I didn't know, you know, dark, Flesh of my Flesh,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: Blood on my Blood. So three hundred and eighty seven
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: thousand records the first week and did not have a
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: single or a video that was both in the same year,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: both in this is what I'm saying. It's like, so
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: I didn't know nothing about the sale shit, But people
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: like X ship was like Billboard. I'm like, so you
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: let these people have no face, their system determined what's
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: the best ship? Ever? Nah? Like you know what I mean,
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: because I'm like, yo, Like, if Jay had to go
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: hit for hit with somebody, he could go all day.
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: But but one thing, I say, separate drink. But Drake,
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: nobody can go hit for him with Drake. The problem
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: with Drake is Drake gonna start pulling them ships from
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: half court, like Steph, you're gonna start pulling that shit
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: from half court. And I still put I still have
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: in my book Jay over Drake. Of course, of course
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: he's I think with Drake, I think I think Drake
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: is kind of like you said, how Steph Curry kind
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: of came through and it's just like not fair with
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: the change he changed the way the game's played, to
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: change with the games. I think Drake has some things
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: you could say about him. Obviously the writing ship, you know, yeah.
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: I also look at the way he responded to that
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: and kind of like low Ki had me his career
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: in a little chocol for a while, you know, like
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: and but then I look at Drake and the push
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: a thing, and how I was so disappointed that Drake
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: never replied to push his fucking freestyles. Bro I ain't
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: gonna lie though. It's like it was like he was
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: in a very tough position. But I always used to say,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: you know what I always just say about Drake. I
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: used to before him and push you at his issues.
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: I used to always say, like he needed to do
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: a takeover, just attack everybody, he needed to just make
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: a record. I always wanted Drake to make kind of
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: like Kendrick's controllers, but he didn't. Kendrick then attack people, right,
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: but he definitely he caught everybody. He was being nice. Yeah,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: it was. It was a polite Hey guys, I'm better
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: than y'all. But I really feel like I don't know Kendrick,
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: but I really feel like Kendrick believed that nobody could
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: fuck with him. I think that's still nobody. I don't
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: I feel like rapping, but at the same time, that's
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: what I'm saying. It's like when you start getting in
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: the bars and quotables and hip hop is not just
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: based on that. It's based on everything. It's based on everything.
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: It's based on your presence and all that. And like
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: it's like, now, bro, it's like the NBA. I'd be like, yo,
- 1:10:59Speaker 1: they might as well just make the NBA the Christmas Game,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: the All Star Game in the playoffs because nobody plays
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: no more. I know, y'all got injuries and ship, but
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: nobody don't fucking play this ship is crazy. And it's
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: like that's how feeling about hip hop now. It's like
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: people don't play as much as they used to. It's like, uh,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: we're growing up after we get a Woo Tang album,
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: and then we get all these albums in between, and
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: then another woos Sang album and more albums in between,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: and then another Wooing album. They still holding his face locks.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: They did the same ship Locks album, Jadakiss Styles Chic,
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: then d Block compilation, Jada Kiss again, and Styles and Chic.
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: They kept doing They kept doing it all our favorite
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: sucking the dog paumd Bro snooping them like snoop after
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: he brought the dog Panty brought I had. I bought
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: that east side of his album Aum was fired, Eastide
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: I Sleeping Goldie Logan Trading. They had dress on it,
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. But I bought that east
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: side of the album. Like they kept it consistent consistent.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: Now it's like the incause you want to be like
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: you consistent when you drop, but you dropped. It's like
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: a solar clips, you know what I mean. Now, it's
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: like we gotta wait so long and yeah, but that's
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: the only thing with Like, I hope this next Kendrick
- 1:12:08Speaker 1: album is crazy, I think. But that's the though. It's
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: it's a gifting occurs because it's like for me, I
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: don't I'm not expecting, like, I don't think that Kendrick
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: can outdo himself. I just think that every time he
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: does something that hasn't been done, he doesn't out Like
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: I don't feel like good Caad Mass City, Good Kid Mass.
- 1:12:24Speaker 1: He is one of the greatest albums of all time,
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: facts or in any genre. I agree, but like when
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: you get to to Pimple Butterfly, I can't compare it
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: to because there he was doing something totally different Butterfly
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: the way he did it on a high level. Yeah,
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: then damn, damn a classic album. I'm give a fuck
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: with nobody saying I think. I mean, I think all
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: three Kendrick albums are classics. And let's not in Section eighty.
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: Let's not like that was sweet. Section eighty was officially
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: an album as well, so you couldn't get that. You
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: had to buy that on iTunes. And like I said,
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: like I don't with these artists, it's like we want
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: to be entertained, so we don't know, like them sitting
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: in stool one hundred hours like oh fuck, trying a
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: bunch of shit and saying, I don't know if I'm
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: a like Lauren Hill bro it was a reason why
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: she on even made one album. She can never do
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: that shit again. You could never do it again. And
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: that piece of art, though, is one of the greatest
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: of all time. But if that's the art that we
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: have to accept for and that's what we have, I'm
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: cool with that. Do you think Drake? I think everyone
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: would say that Take Care is a classic? Not everyone,
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: because I personally don't think he's got an undeniable classic. Yeah,
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: take his not take his undeniable classic, bro, I'm saying
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: just I feel like it's a undeniable I think that
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: no, no no, but listen, but listen, Like, I think that
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: there's not a consensus amongst everyone that that's a classic.
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: I think that I think that I would say it's
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: a classic personally, but I don't think it's a consensus, right,
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: Like I feel like there's albums like nobody's ever gonna
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: tell you Get richard Ie Trent isn't a classic, Like
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: anybody who you respecting hip hop would never ever say,
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: but they're not tell you why it's our standard. We're
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: from the same I'm only a couple years older than you,
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: but we're from the same era of when we learned
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: this idea of what the classic was, and then we
- 1:14:09Speaker 1: think about our classics. I used to think like, if
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: you can't make something the same as the infamous, it's
- 1:14:14Speaker 1: not classic. If you can't make the same as reasonable doubt,
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: it's not classic. And that's content is the subject matter
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: is the singles and all of that only built for
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Cuban links. Music has changed, but I think since since
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: Drakes come out, there's been classic albums that have came out.
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: So even though it's like two records on there, it's like,
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: what my beautiful dark twist of fantasy good can mad say?
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: I mean, we just talked about Kendricks, right, So it's
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: other people records on there, like freestyles, but so Far
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: Gone Bro So Far Gone is a classic body of work.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: I mean undeniable, that's undeniable. I think that when Drake
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: came out with the singing shit, everybody was like, oh
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: he saw for he is so he that So they
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: was because hip hop was in a weird ass space.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: So it's like they say he not hip hop. Like
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: people consider Drake like you still got an army of
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: like a fucking organization or army of people that still say, well,
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: Drake's not hip hop because he sings right, and I
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: just look at it. I didn't wasn't in that crowd,
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: but I used to look at it like, well, he
- 1:15:18Speaker 1: need to just make a whole album rapping, but he
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: doesn't because it'd be nice though. Why though, but because
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: look we rusted that chompipe and I was like, this
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: is great. He's shutting people up. Yeah, but I feel
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: like Russ got more to proved than Drake. Definitely, Yeah,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: thats bro. Anybody who meet Russ, if you never knew
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: who was, Like if I took rest of my hood,
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: somebody I wouldn't say, like, they'd be like, yo, cool guy.
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: But you know, I just mean like, if no one
- 1:15:43Speaker 1: knew who he was, they'd be like, why you got
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: this white boy with long hair? Yeah? But then you
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: hear he grap his ass off. But that's what I'm saying.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: It's like he got more approved than Drake. You're saying
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: Drake doesn't have to do that because he's already got.
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: I feel like, I feel like for the people who
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: feel like he had, he's never gonna make them happy.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: They're never go yeah, because like honestly, even with me,
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: because me and academics have had a lot of Drake debates,
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: especially with the whole ship and all of that, and like,
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: I had to start looking. I took a lot of
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: my Like I love Drake as an artist, Like I've
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: listened to every one of his albums, all of them, Like,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: I mean, the only one I don't like is What's
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: the first one? Thank Me Later? I don't like that album.
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: It had like four joints on it. I wasn't crazy
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: about more Life. I always crazy about life neither. But like,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: but I hate I hate the fact that, if you're
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: reading this too late, is oh no, that's a mixtape.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: No it's not. It's a fucking album. I can't enjoy
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: that album the way everyone else does because, Bro, but
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: but that album is like some of his best, especially
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: just rapping. We just don't know who wrote it, you
- 1:16:49Speaker 1: know what I'm saying. I know, but I ain't on
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: front nowadays the people that everybody writing for them, I don't.
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: I got over that, Bro, I had to get over it.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: It's tough. I had to get over it, because Bro,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: it's a different era when you being come on, bro,
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: you be in these studios. Well also you know how
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: it is because you you're in studio sessions, and you
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: realize everyone gets help, everybody, whether it's the homie in
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: the corner who's like feed you in line. Because but
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: but we come from that era of like if you
- 1:17:13Speaker 1: was in the if you was in the lunch room,
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: and you think Kendrick's getting help, I don't know. I
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: don't know, man, I don't think. I don't know. Bro,
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: I'm gonna keep it a hundred. I'm not I would.
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: I wouldn't say he is. Probably I would probably shut
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: the thugs in on the inside, like you know what
- 1:17:26Speaker 1: I mean. Yeah, my argument because I'm glad you say
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: Kendrick's in your top five because I always tell people
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: who have Biggie in their top five as well. I'm like, look,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Biggie deserves to be in that conversation. But while he
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: we got two albums from him, and they were both classics,
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: Kendrick we've got if I can argue section eighty's a classic,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: but let's say take it section eighty three. He's got
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: three undenials not missed. He hasn't missed. So if you're
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: gonna put Biggie in that conversation off a two albums,
- 1:17:52Speaker 1: you gotta put Kendrick in that conversation with the greatest
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: all time. Yeah. Absolutely, But I see the thing is
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: is like, bro, we all realized how great people are
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: when they're gone. You know what I'm saying, Like, we
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: all realized how great people are when they're going. It's like,
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: you look at DMX, right, and I wouldn't be mad
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: if somebody had DMX's they number one on they Top five.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: Of course, when I was a kid for two years
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: as a child, probably three years, DMX was my favorite
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: rapper in the world. I'm not even gonna lie and
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: admit this to you. The Hard Knocked Life Tour, that
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: Backstage movie when I was there, we probably stayed for
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: two of jay Z's songs and then went home. Bro,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: we were there to see DMX. I did not understand
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: for the life of me why DMX was going on
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: before jay Z, and at that time that was volume two.
- 1:18:38Speaker 1: Hold yeah, that he had had them records. It was
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: it was they toil and he had them records, right.
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: That's like I remember jay came out, he had the
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: car on stage, and I was like my cousin was like, hey,
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: you want to go home and beat the traffic? And
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: I was like we already saw DMX, metha Man and
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: Redmond were just flying through the fucking sky. Let's go home.
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: That's like, bro, like, who I like, what's this? That's like,
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: I don't give nobody say like Future in my top ten.
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: I don't even know my top this Future in it. Really,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: I swear to guy, Bro, I don't care what nobody say.
- 1:19:04Speaker 1: Ain't no Dick Ryan and none of that. I love Future,
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: I know, I love I love Future, but I want
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: to put I mean, I think for what he does,
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: he's the greatest of all time. I don't know if
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: there's a better club like club rapper you just want.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: But see this the thing. I don't even want to
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: put him in club rapper because that's people always equate Future.
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: That's just a club rapper Future. His music is street ship.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: So he got some bro I know, but I'm talking
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: about he got songs with like one of my favorite
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: songs from Futures made myself like Streets Calling that mixtape,
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: Streets Calling got mad Future shit on it where he rapping,
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: and people never got onto that because they just got
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: on the fucking at the same damn time and it
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: was just held on it that and never listen to shit.
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: If you got the tolerance or the time to listen
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: to future, canny fuck with Kendrick as a rapper. No,
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: not saying that by no means, but if you listen
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: to what he's saying and you like rap, you'd be like, oh,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: he got some ship in there, same as Thug. I
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: feel the same way about Thug. I put low key
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: put Thug above future. No, no, no, no, I'll take
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: futures catalog. I just think that. I just think young
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: Thug has I mean, futures are very versus how artists,
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: but I feel like I've heard Thug like some of
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: his inflections and ship. I just don't know if anyone
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: else can pull off some of the ship young Thug does.
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: They can't. People can do it. People can do a
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: cheap future impersonation. It's to me, no, they can't. Bro
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: they can't. To me, Thug is like so the way
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: he changes the beats for real, don't that's fair? Future
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: like listening to Gangland, and like I said, I'm not saying,
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: listen to Gangland and say this verse is not better
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: than conways. I've been waiting for someone to put future
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: up in the verses too. I'm like, man, who play
- 1:20:45Speaker 1: with him? I don't know who. I don't know who
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: could bro. People don't even You see when he was
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: making that room about Travis Scott and then the meme start,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: Oh yeah, Travis to get washed and I love Travis,
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: but not against future future Brow Travis and young Thug
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: would be good. That would be a good one. Travis, Travis, Travis,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: but future Bro they can't follow the future. So you
- 1:21:06Speaker 1: got them top ten all time? Hell yeah, I got
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: because my ratchet. But that's what I'm saying, your personal favorites.
- 1:21:13Speaker 1: That's your favorite, like like in your favorites, it's not
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: necessarily like who you think is the greatest of all time. Yeah,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: it's not what I think is just your favorite. Yeah,
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: he's my He's one of my favorite artists ever. But
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: so is Ludacris. So is t I Man, Ludacris, so
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: is Young Buck would have loved album Young Bucks first
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: two second album, The World was one of the most
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: slept on albums ever made. The World is fucking was
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: that they had the prices on my head record was
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: that on the first the first Yeah, but the second
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: album had some ships and that no one no one
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: ever talks about Buck the world, Bro, Buck the World
- 1:21:46Speaker 1: is hard. That was one that's probably one of the
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: saddest things in hip hop for me was that young
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: Buck never really kind of like he should have kept going.
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: Man Luda was that dude though. I'm so glad to
- 1:21:57Speaker 1: hear Luda on that new record with Conway and that
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: ship was yeah, and he held his own Nah, absolutely absolutely.
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: I mean Luda, Bro. I think Luda is a mask.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: Like people don't be knowing. It's like I equate Lula
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: like ice cube. Bro, He's the same thing as ice cube.
- 1:22:12Speaker 1: Like when my when my son seeing straight out of Compton,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: he was like, that's ice cube, Like he couldn't believe it.
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: He was like, that's how you got it from Yeah,
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: from Friday. We did that Friday all. I'm like, yeah,
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: all about the Benjamin Like, yeah, that's ice Cube. Like
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: they don't but I would have. I would have took
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: the same route Lula, did you know what I mean?
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: But Luda? People act like man Luda when he did
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: What's the Ship that Ron Browns did for him? Blow
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: it out your ass like dumb joints LU the first album,
- 1:22:41Speaker 1: the first than Red Light DISTRICTT. What's the drink? Chicken? Yeah, chicken, beer,
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: chicken and beer. Luda had bro he hits, hits, hits, hits,
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: any corrap with you? What's so this new podcast is
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: just one of the new things that you have coming.
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: It's just one new things. I don't I don't really
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: talk about like inkas dry on certain shit. But I
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: don't let I let the work speak for itself. You know,
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: I do got some shit coming. I'm just I'm I'm
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: still learning, bro, Like you know, the media career is
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: giving me a new life and I'm only three years in.
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: I'm set, I'm on my music. Shit, I'm twenty in, right,
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: I mean I started at shit eighteen, so I'm twenty in.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: I'm thirty eight. Not consistent, but I'm still like making
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: up for the lost time I had. So I'm learning
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: new shit. I'm working with new people. I got different perspectives.
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: I'm building new things, new ideas. I'm building a merch
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: line for my company, Try and Go Offense, which was
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: you know, my label, That's what Dave was signed to
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: as a a management client, but I changed it to
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: not just management and production company, to an aspirational inspirational
- 1:23:53Speaker 1: lifestyle brand because like I want to inspire, you know,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: I mean I want to aspire to inspire, Like it's
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: my duty for me to make people feel like they can.
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: That's why I started my podcast. I look at I think,
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: what's about your podcast is it's kind of needed in
- 1:24:07Speaker 1: this space. I think we get a lot of that
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: from like Wallow's Instagram. Yeah, I love it. Real quick,
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: I tell you about that, you know what I mean.
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: Times Wallow cursed me out about doing the podcast. BROA
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Wallow was on my ass. Bro, I'll tell you one
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: time Wallow And of course I met him through social media,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: but we got a lot of mutual friends in Philly,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: a lot of mutual friends. And Wallow called me one
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: day and was like, wait, no, I'm telling you right now, Bro,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: you're leaving so much money on the table. And he like,
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: not just the money, but bro, he like, it's all
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: these different things that you could do once you start.
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: And he was telling me, but Willow talk fast, and
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: he he gave me one call like every couple months,
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: and he left me with that, and I was like,
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: how do I do it? And I was scared to
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: do it. I'm not gonna lie, bro, I'm not gonna
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: act like I was, like, I'm just this invincible person
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: that has no flaws and has no what's that insecurities about? Shit?
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: Like are they gonna like it? Do they like me?
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: Does everybody just like academics on the show and don't
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: fuck with me at all? I know he has his
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: fan base, but I never built mine. And then I
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: was like, you know what, fuck it, I'm gonna just
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: jump off this diving board to see what happens. And
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: we've been doing. You know, hear Me Out with Wayne
- 1:25:05Speaker 1: O is every Thursday. I'm saying Instagram is hear me
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: out with Wayne O? It's the twitters hear me out?
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: I mean, hear me wayno. And we're just gonna go,
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: you know what I mean. We're gonna go and I'm
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: gonna have like I will have. I would love to
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: have you on a on a podcast, but we do.
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: It's not gonna be so much centered around you. I
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: might just bro you a father like, you know what
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: I mean, we might just talk and talk about the
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: things that our kids is into. How you feel about
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: this issue versus me. What I'm saying, I think it's
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: that's missing like and I think that, Like I said,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: we get a lot of that from Wallow and from Billy,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: and from Gilly and and and and I wish they
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: would do they. I used to love the podcast with
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: No Interviews, and I've been killing the interview us because
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: they make people so comfortable. Bro there, I tell them
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: this all the time, Like their interviews are my favorite.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: I mean, obviously, drink Champs is on a crazy run.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: I love bro Like the cam and the Pharrell interview
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: are like two of my favorite interviews ever. I hope
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: I get to do a drink and I don't even
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: drink like that, but I hope I get to do
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: a drink Champs one day, because like when Noori came
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: to the the Rockefeller, remember he was signed the Rockefeller. Yo.
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: Norri was one of the funniest people I've ever met
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: in my life. Though, Oh, because that was like that
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: was like when it was like Rockefeller, like reggaetone, like no,
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: that was before that. That was before that he signed
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: to Regular. That was when Dame Dame has signed them,
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: Games Chain and all that, and then he was already there.
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: Basically he was signed to Death Jim and Death Jim
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: wasn't really moving so and Rockefeller we had distro through
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: death jam. So it's just like all right, we could
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: take it on and you know what I mean, do
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: whatever with him and put the Rockefeller brand around and
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: all that. And it's just like I was when I
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: was around norriy. I was twenty one, So I don't
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: forget nothing that happened because these are like the this
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: is fucking Nori, you know what I mean. It's the
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: greatest time of my life being around his guys. It's
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: mad stories I got would be being around Norry that
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: he might not remember. Norri's Yeah. Norri is uh like
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: the sweetest dude. But he's also like when you think
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: of like some of the stories he's been involved with,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: you're like, we want to Like I always say him,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: him and Fat Joe are like some of the biggest
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: goons to ever fucking vat. Yeah, Fat Joe. Fat Joe
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: was went to kindergarten with my sister. Yeah, I just
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: all I've heard so many like vocal stories about Fat Joe.
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: I used to work with DJ DJ christ John when
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: I was when I was on the radio on Tampa.
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: He used to tell me the craziest Forest projects. Bro
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: Fat Joe's story how they would move was like some
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: real terrorists the name but the name called terrorst Squad,
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: Like Jesus, like, we don't take these brands serious until
- 1:27:31Speaker 1: it say smacks mighty head off. Yeah, man state property
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: that that that's property of the state. Beans was calling
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: the ship criminal records. But I'm just saying, look what
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: you manifest when you do that. Feel fortunately, fortunately d
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: block you know, d block cell block like it's it's
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: I get why because it was authentic to the to
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: the artist and a person. But at the same time,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: it's like, now we're getting older, we're not looking at
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: it like that. Hey, what was the biggest time you
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: ever kind of disagreed with some academic state where you
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: kind of had to like, you know nine the six
- 1:28:02Speaker 1: nine thing. Yeah, did you guys have off of the
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: record conversations about it? We had mad conversations about it,
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: but we had we had one conversation. We had one
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: conversation that got a little crazy. They had to take
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: a lot of it out. I was wild on video.
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: But that's only the reason why is because it's like
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: it's certain brothers and sisters that like, you know, they
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: attached theyself to that. You know that that brotherhood and
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: I know them and we're tight, and like seeing seeing
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: how he was treating that whole thing, seeing how sixnin
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: was treating that whole ship, I always felt that six
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: nine could have been like the most successful artists without
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: doing that. But also he was around a bunch of
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: dudes that didn't know business. You know what I'm saying,
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: Like these dudes is they they they serious people in
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: the street that never been in They've been around music,
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: but never had the ball in their hand. So it's
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: like I felt like, yeah, he used them, they used them,
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: but he used them like it ain't it ain't one
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: side like yeah, And the thing about it is, bro
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: it ain't even about I don't agree when it comes
- 1:29:05Speaker 1: to like, you know, I ain't in the street right now.
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: I don't give a fuck about who snitching on who
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: know why? Because I ain't in the street. That ain't
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: my lifestyle. But like I've been in situations where I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: had to stop talking to friends I grew up with
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: because they chose a certain life when I was trying
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: to live a certain life. So that rubs me a
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: certain way. I got friends that did fifteen some years
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: because somebody told on them. You know what I mean,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: It's not even about just that, it's about the prevention.
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: It's about not putting yourself in a situation to do that.
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: So I would never I'm not gonna tell no kid
- 1:29:33Speaker 1: if he get locked up, where he or she should do.
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: That's for them to decide. What I'm gonna tell you is,
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: how about we get you more focused on things that
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: will not put you in a position to get locked up.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: That's what I'm about, being proactive, not reactive. Because once
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: once a kid goes to jail or a kid passes,
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: everybody's all sad and everybody got all this that and
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: the third we need more prevention. And I felt like
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: with dudes, you know, was doing whatever was like just perpetual,
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: like you was. Yeah, a lot of a lot of
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: people turned up on the gang ship because when they
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: did it, they heightened it on a mainstream level, and
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: a lot of kids is looking at it like he
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: ain't like that, and I don't really like that, So
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I'm really going to do it, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: And now they they catching indictments and all of that,
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: So what does it bring for real, Like you know
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: what I mean, That shit don't bring nothing but pain facts.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah. I always thought that, like because because
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: because just kind of who you are and and and
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: and you know, even just watching the show on a
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: regular basis, like you can kind of tell like the
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: morals you stand on. Yeah. I just I just thought
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: that there was some some academic ship and again it
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: was it was got a number of respect for academics. Yeah,
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: outside of the Freddie Gibs shit happened and him him
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: bringing up Fred's kids and not so well when we
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: get friends my brother, but I respect like the career
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: he's built up. But I just figured that there was
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: a had to be a few things where you was like, bro,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: like what is it? Well, no, it's well hmmm, let
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: me think it's different. I can't think of everything, Bro,
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: we did? You know? You and I did probably three
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: hundred something. I was on Everyday Struggle longer than Joe
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Bud was and that's facts. So so I did three
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: hundred something episodes of that shit. So I can't remember everything. Bro.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: I'm talking Monday through Thursday, every morning at seven in
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: the morning. A lot of that shit is a blur
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: and and some shit you can see and some shit
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: you want. But the thing about me is is like
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: it's a lot of shit that we didn't agree on, Bro,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: But but at the same time, it's like we knew
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: that we came there to do a job. We came
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: there to entertain. I felt like, you know, for me,
- 1:31:24Speaker 1: I was on that show for three years. You know
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: what I'm saying for me to I'm grateful to Complex.
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: I'm working for the Deska because the desker's who got
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: me on that show and a co signed it, and
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: that's what spit ahead of my media career. And I've
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: and like you, it worked. It ain't like they brought
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: you on like and well. The thing is, Bro, is
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: that I'm a sponge. Like if you could hear you
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: hear me talk about my Rockefeller days. I got in
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: the room, I learned, I sat around, I played my part,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: I sat in the corner, I was the person. Yeah,
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: So I looked at it from the perspective of this,
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: it's like I got in there for all the shit,
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: even with the bullshit that me It's a lot of
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: conversations that I had with act with act told me
- 1:32:02Speaker 1: how to handle business in the media. Space. So when
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: I did my deals, He's like, YO, make sure it's
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: make sure you he told me, Bro, he instilled summing
- 1:32:10Speaker 1: for me. I'm grateful for me that, you know what
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: I'm saying. And him and me, you know, it's like
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: it's like almost like the same shit you're saying what
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: you was like, like, meet Bro, I've know Meek since
- 1:32:17Speaker 1: he was sixteen, and I fuck woul Act, but Meet
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: I got real genuine love for me because I knew
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: him when he caught this, when he caught the troup
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: before you. I'm kind of glad the clubhouse thing happened
- 1:32:26Speaker 1: because it kind of I hate clubhouse. Bro. I haven't
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: had clubhouse on my phone for a while. I haven't.
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: I haven't used it in like five months. That's a wrap. Yeah,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: it's over for me for that, but but like it's
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: just I love balance. I feel like, you can't we
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: can't have all the things. I can't have the morals
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: that I stand on and this, that and the third
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: and teach and educate if I don't have examples of
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: other people and not specifically Act, but other people that
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: be out here shocking the fucking food. You know what
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: I'm saying, so I could be able to show examples
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: like yo, listen, I ain't gonna tell you what to do,
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: but if you want to do it, just make sure
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: you do it your way. Don't feel a pressure, feeling
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: like you got to be this person in that What
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: was the Was there ever a crazy moment where you
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: guys had interviews at complex and things kind of got weird,
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: weird with the artists with artists and act YG YG
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: came in because that was right after like like six
- 1:33:16Speaker 1: nine was going crazy and I remember that. And the
- 1:33:19Speaker 1: thing is is like I I gotta rapport with them,
- 1:33:21Speaker 1: with YG and them, you know what I mean, Like
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: I funk would be more, you know what I mean. Yeah,
- 1:33:24Speaker 1: he's my guy. Push push your rod, like I funck
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: with a lot of his dudes, you know what I'm saying.
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: And like when I when I every every room, I
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: walk into him being myself saying. So when I come
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: in there, I speak to everybody. I ain't just speak
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: to YG. I came in there, I said, but up
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: to his homies before I saw him something. It's early
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: in the morning. That brother's doing y'all good. Flight was cool,
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: all right, cool? They came in so ACT came in,
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Usually the artists that like
- 1:33:49Speaker 1: don't funk with act, they usually sit next to me.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: It's they usually sit next to me. So why G?
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: You know he said with me? You know what I mean?
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: It was cool, but like why was waiting to see
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: if he was going to play with him? You know
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: what I mean? But ultimately, like, why G? He's a
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: real good guy, bro, Like I went to one of
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: his his brother, his brother's birthday party one time, met
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: as his mom, his pops and up. People be looking
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: at these artists and they just think that they these
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: reckless dudes because he chose a certain way of life.
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: He's a good brother, feel me. Like, so I wanted
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: to ask you because you've worked with you worked with
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: Dave early on, and Dave's one of my favorite artists.
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: In saying MC, women love him right right killing it
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: on the acting. He's kind of like the full package.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: But for some reason, he's never kind of gone over
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: the hump at being like a commercial success. Why do
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: you think that is, like in your opinion for being
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: someone wh's been so close to him. I mean, this
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: is a record business. You gotta make records, you know
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: what I mean, I feel like like Dave has he
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: has all the qualities to make him be over that.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: But like I just feel like because I still, you know,
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: I tune into this shiit like me and Dave don't
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: first and all, like me and Dave don't have a
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: bad report, right, I mean, like it was a point
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: in time where we weren't speaking. But regardless of that,
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: Dave had reached out to me when I lost my
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: father because him and my father had their own relationship
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: and he was he was very sincere his approach, and
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: I took Dave to become Muslim. He's gonna be my
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: brother forever. He's my brother here in and in after life.
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: So I loved it. But I always felt like Dave
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: I always for me. My vision for him was to
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: always be bigger. I don't know what the vision that
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: he had for himself once I stopped working with him,
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying. So I don't know what
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: transpired after that. We went on separate ways. But like
- 1:35:29Speaker 1: I just felt like Dave has an insane ability. He's
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: he's a dope rapper. That's why I was fucking with him,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Yeah, I mean looking like
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: I just I feel like he checks all the boxes,
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: checks all the boxes. But I mean, you gotta remember, bro,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: everybody's not like everybody's not meant to be what we
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: want them to be. And you see that in sports
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: before you see the music, you know what I mean,
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: Like all the time, Bro, you know how many number
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: one picks I was living and dying, buying and then
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: like they end up not being mohammed. But you know
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: they reclassified him because he was older, he was lying
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: by his age and all that shit. Yeah, but like
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: but but yeah, even him, like when he's at UCLA,
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: Andrew Wiggins, Andrew Andrew Wiggan Yo, I swech I wanted
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: the Sons to tank for Wiggins. Bro Dante ExHAM hex
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: him from He's from Australia. He's from Australia. But let
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: me tell you something, bro, it wasn't a person I
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: want a hundred dollar bet off of off of Andrew
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: Wiggins when he came to the league because I was
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: betting one of the East homies. He said that he
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: went average fourteen points. I was like, I said, he's
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: gonna get his fourteen points off of fast? I said's
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: gonna get eight points off of Fast Break the Kids
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: a freak athlete, Like, you can't fuck that package up.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: But I feel like he still has the ability. Some
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: people unlock it later on lebron Shoe was instant. Mellows instant,
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: Zach Lavine's unlocked it. Later on, Yeah, Zach Lavine unlocked
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: it later on you know what I'm saying, like like
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell, like, are you are you a Nick fan? No,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: I'm a Lakers fan. No really, that's interesting, that's convenient. No,
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: no, no no it's not. I mean, second greatest franchise of
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: all time. But I sucked through the tough time. See
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: anybody was like I was watching when it was void
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: and Eddie Jones, Nick van X absolutely bro listen. I
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: used to tape the memories kids. But I used to
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: take the NBA draft. We couldn't go on Instagram and
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: just re see it. Used to take that ship. I
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: used to remember when when NBA Live and have the
- 1:37:07Speaker 1: rookies ris to write down every single rookie and look
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: at all their attributes and create them on live and ship. Bro.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: I was a fun I'm a basketball fan. I love
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: My love for the for the Lakers came not just
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: from they didn't come from the convenience of Shaq and Kobe.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: It came from Phil Jackson. That's why I name my
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: company Triangle Offense, because I started that. You were kind
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: of a later Laker fan, man, I was, but I was,
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: I said, was a kid before you were a Laker fan.
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: Were you a Nick fan? No? I was a Bulls fan. Yeah,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: I was. I mean, but I was. I'm a Suns fan.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: I'm from Phoenix. But why use a Oh that's tough. No, no,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: because as a kid, it was just Michael Jeordan's Michael Jordan.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: But that's why I be telling people. So it's like
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: when you meet a kid that's eight years old, you'd
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: be like, who's your favorite team? It's the Golden State
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: Wars when they was seventy three and nine, because they
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: the best. It's marketing, it's the best thing. But like,
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: I'm a Laker fan. Laker fan, do you think like, like,
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: you know, I'm so much of a Lagka fan. I
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: was against Lebron coming to the Lagas at first. You're
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: one of those Kobe guys. Man, you have your side
- 1:38:06Speaker 1: of the of the war and it's Kobe. I had
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: a lot of Lebron Kobe arguments. Bro, Well you've had
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: that Lebron argue. I had almost fist fight arguments about
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: Lebron Kobe Bro. So it's like when you had Kobe's
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: better than Lebron. Huh, you're saying Kobe's better than Lebron.
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: I don't think he's a better athlete. I'm talking about that,
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: just better all time, all time. Great conversation. You're putting
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: Kobe over Lebron all time? Okay, all right, do you
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: see at least you're reasonable. You're reasonable. I'm not because
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: Lebron bro. Like Steve Kurt said the relationship about Lebron
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: one time, he's like, yo, you know how hard it
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: is to get to the finals? He like even if
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: he's lost, Like like, even if he's lost, you know
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: how hard it is to get It's people that seeing
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: the finals on the bench one time and didn't have
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: a career after that. I always tell people, like the
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: year he went, it was at five and then they
- 1:38:51Speaker 1: had him was seven when Eric Snow was the point going.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: But that's the second worst team to a AIS team
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: as team was rough by the way, both both teams
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: had Eric and Aaron McK I think probably yeah, and Aaron,
- 1:39:05Speaker 1: but like so, and he went through the Pistons in
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: the Eastern Conference finals. They wasn't they were still the Pistons, though,
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: come on, we're not gonna do to Michael Jordan. And
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: it was the Pistons he went to. Know it was
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: the Pistons that beat the Lakers, who had Karl Malone
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: and Gary Payton. It was I know, but as a
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: rookie was as a lot of factors why that championship
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: the way that today? The thing I will say about
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: Lebron is Lebron has the greatest championship. I agree twenty
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: sixteen that was the greatest. And I could have went
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: to that ship, bro, Really, I could have went to
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: a game. We was on tour. Fred, you remember that
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: we was on tour. I've known Rich Paul since like
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: two thousand and two, two thousand and three. I've known, right,
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: I've never met Lebron in my life though, that's the
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: crazy thing. But I've known Respaul for maya. So some
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: little girl. We end up we on we I'm managing
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: Dave we on tour and we're in we in Cleveland
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: and we got a show in Columbus the next day.
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: And this little girl. She keeps looking or whatever, and
- 1:40:01Speaker 1: then Rich Paul walks in. I'm like, oh shit, Rich
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: was good. Nobody knew what Rich looked like at that time,
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: like that unless you really really right. So I chop
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: it up a Rich you know. He's like, Yo, that's
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: my daughter. He's like, yo, could she take a picture
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: with Dave. I'm like, yeah, they take a picture. So
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: he like, Yo, what y'all doing tonight? I'm like, yeah,
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: we about to go to Columbus. We got a show.
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: He like, man, come to the game. I think I
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: think they might have been down one. I think it was.
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: I think they was down though. Was they down? Was
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: it three? It wasn't three to one? I can't I
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: can't remember what the series was at. But they was
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: at home. And he's like, yo, come to the game
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: to night. I'm like, nah, because the show that we
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: had he was getting some bread. I'm not missing that
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: the show. I needed that show. So he's like, all right,
- 1:40:34Speaker 1: but that we could have went to that fucking we
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: could have went to that that ship, bro. But also
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: it's like, we had like how many peoples with us,
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: like fifteen people. I don't think anyone's ever faced harder
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: competition in the finals than Lebron. Yes and no, so well,
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: yes and no, because you know what people people always like, Oh,
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: Michael jord play against Jeff Wrna Sack, you know what
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: I mean. It's like, but John Stocked the one of
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: the toughest white boys in touch a basket. I just
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: but I just think of like Lebron had to go
- 1:40:59Speaker 1: against the first era of the peak Spurs in seven, right,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: then he had to go against Kawhi Spurs. This is
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: what the heat. Then then against the Warriors. They wasn't
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: Kawhi Spurs when they won. Yeah, but Kawhi was that
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: motherfucker it was, But they wasn't. They wasn't like we
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: nobody even thought that Kawhi. So he played the Spurs
- 1:41:21Speaker 1: three times in the finals, he played the thunder that
- 1:41:25Speaker 1: had three future MVPs. OKC is the worst basketball organization
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: of all time. The fact they never got a ring
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: is crazy. Not even that, bro not even that. The
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: fact that they paid Sergey Bakab but instead of James
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: James for two million dollars, James Harden went sixty sixty
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: five and they offered him sixty three. And they said
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: that they didn't want a decision in Oklahoma City and
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: they let him go. But think about it. So he
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: played that team, which in retrospect is one of the
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: most talented rosters ever. Now they had Reggie Jackson on
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: that It was mad people in that team, the Warriors
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: four straight years three No, it was four, right, it
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: was four. It was four. Yeah, so four lost and
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: then they won and then they lost again twice. Mind you.
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: The first year that he lost, Kyrie and Love weren't playing.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: He had Matthew him the m v P. Anyway, and
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: Andrea Goodala you got the m v P because Steph
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: was kind of whatever. And look, step that's the one
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: think about Steph too, Yo, Steph doesn't have never I
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: just had this argument with this motherfucker. Only does he
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: not but listen, but I love Steph Curry. That only
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: does he never got a finals MVP. Only does he
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: have done? I have a finals MVP. He doesn't. He
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: has a lot of clutch shots in the season, he
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: don't have those in the finals. Just was yelling at
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: this motherfucker about them. He's not the goat. He's not.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: He's changed the worst. He's the most influent. I think
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: Steph Curry, And I'm not talking about culture. He's the greatest.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: I don't know if anyone's ever influenced the way basketball's
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: played like he has. Yes, who Michael Jordan, Bro, But
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: but think about the last eight years. No, the whole
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: game has changed with the way people should get analyst,
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: you play me in the way people played play ball
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: when he was a kid. Yeah, Bro, do you remember
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: the trouble you would get in if you shot a
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: fucking three? You would get your coach on your head. Yo,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: not even on a fast break, because nobody shot threes
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: on fast breaks. But I'm talking about I remember when
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: General as a bad shot and I shot a three
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: from the corner. I did, and it was in the
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: first quarter. I didn't play again the whole game now,
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: and I almost made it. I almost made the ship.
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: He's just created a whole He's changed basketball. He has,
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: I think more than anyone as far as just how
- 1:43:28Speaker 1: it's lell how it's played. Yes, I'm gonna tell you
- 1:43:33Speaker 1: how because because of Lebron James and Lebron's Lebron's my
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: personal favorite player ever. Because of Lebron James being the height,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: he's the size of Carmelone. He's a monster. He's the
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: size of car malone, and he runs as fast as
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: Allen Iverson. It's crazy. So that's what I'm saying. So
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: after I feel like after Lebron is when AAU, because
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: you know, the ship is a ground up business. Where
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: AAU started looking at kids because when we were kids,
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: if he was the tallest kid or you was tall,
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: is standing in and do this jump up and down
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: catch re bounds. You can't even take a shot for real,
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: right facts Now the big man has to know how
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: to dribble down, the big man has to know how
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: to pass. They train the kids to know everything. And
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: I think that that's because Lebron. That's fair, that's fair.
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: That's because Lebron. I always say, if I ask somebody
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: who's the greatest of all time and their answer isn't
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: either Michael Jordan or Lebron James, then they don't know
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: what the fuck they're talking about, right, because who else
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: is a Kareem maybe? And I don't give a fuck
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: what people think about the feelings of this situation. Kevin
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: Durant might go down as the greatest scorer. I think
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: him or James Harden James Harden too, but Kevin. The
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: thing about Kevin Durant is I think the only edge
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: he has on on James is his height because at
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: his height, he's another one that changed the game too,
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: where Au started looking at kids like, oh now, we
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: gotta start telling these kids. You know what I mean,
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: it's crazy to think that we're like alive to watch
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: both of them play at the same time. Hard like
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: probably the two they're gonna probably go down to two
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: to scorn. But that's why Braun is like people, well, Kobe,
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: That's why I always quate Wayne to Kobe because Wayne,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: I mean, Broun has played in so Broun Drake Yeah, okay, absolutely,
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: j Jordan, yeah yeah, but Bron Wayne is definitely Kobe
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: because Wayne Wayne got a song that's enough. Nobody can
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: do a verses against Wayne. Bro, It's impossible. You can't know.
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: Don't tell me, no, Bro. I was at the Drake
- 1:45:29Speaker 1: versus Wayne to it and I was like, Damn, Drake
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: got wayboard just joints. But Bro, I don't know who
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: selected his records, but Bro, but Wayne has a record,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: and think about basketball, No, he's got a record in
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: every real quick real quick think about basketball. Think about
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: Wayne's music in every basketball era. No, you're right, hit
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: record He's had. He's had records in every era, in
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: every era. I do not disagree every era. Bro I
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: don't like Drake is gonna be the evol version of
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: Wayne I mean as an artist, is what I mean?
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: Who do you think fully healthy? You think the Lakers
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: are are taking it this year? If they're fully al
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: absolutely kd my Man, but dragging that book and ship
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: and it ain't got J James And there's no defense.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: There's no defense in the NBA period, No but but
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: but except for on the Lakers because they're fucking top
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: five defensive team without a D and Lebron since since
- 1:46:15Speaker 1: they've been out. Yo, Frank Vogel, low key, listen, Frank Fogel,
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: I was like, but but but nah, he was firing Indiana.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: But but That's what I was about to say. If.
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: I hate the word if, but because there was a
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: point in time where poor George bro I love Poor
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: George is my fair play? Not no more Lucat Luca
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: the down lucas me and you are fucking I always
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: tell everybody Luca might go down as the greatest of
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: all time. Lucas definitely gonna be the greatest white man
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: to play basketball ever, Like it's year three. But but
- 1:46:50Speaker 1: but he gotta win some though he always got he will.
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: But but but that Pacers team, Bro, they had to
- 1:46:57Speaker 1: go up against Miami, they gave him hell. Bro, I
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: get upset when I'm playing too K online and somebody
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: picks Miami and I got I get it up set, bro,
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: because I hate that. But that Indiana team was that
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: top to bottom. That's when Danny Granger wasn't sweet. Granger
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: was nice. This was Roy Roy Hibbert was decent before
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: the big Man was extinct. And and and then remember
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: when Roy Hibbert found his groove for Lance Stevenson was
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: a nice all around hill. Georgia was given the people help, No, no,
- 1:47:26Speaker 1: the Pacers I remember, I remember I was like legit
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: scared for Lebron one of those years. I think when
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: they met in the Eastern Conference finals, I was like
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: that ship went with David West. David they fight everybody.
- 1:47:37Speaker 1: I would like to see David West and uh celebrity
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: and and and uh what's the ol g on the
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: fucking heat it's been on? There hasling. That would be
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: a fight that would be a real like I paid
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: money to see HASLM versus. Yeah, because that David West
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: is like a black belter, So I already got like
- 1:47:51Speaker 1: serious might be saying it, but I ain't see no action.
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: That's fair man. Well look, man, I appreciate you coming through.
