  The SAVE Act stands for Safeguard American Voter

  Eligibility Act. In essence, it requires everyone

  who registers to vote in a federal election to provide
• 2:30
  proof of American citizenship. Right now, you can register with

  nothing more than a driver's license and a tick in a box that
• 2:37
  says I'm American. That, according to a lot of
• 2:41
  conservatives, is a gaping hole. If the ACT passes, you'd need
• 2:45
  things like a passport, birth certificate or Real ID that
• 2:49
  shows you're not just alive, you're American.
• 2:52
  Supporters say it'll shut the door on illegal voting, no
• 2:55
  matter how rare it is. Critics, they say it'll
• 2:58
  disenfranchise millions, people who've lived here for 40 years,

  voted 20 times, but don't have paperwork on hand.

  It's a classic culture war battle.

  Identity versus convenience. Well my wife and I, we seem to,
• 3:15
  at least in our area, we know that all we got to do is go down
• 3:19
  the road and we just get our I DS made.
• 3:22
  It's that simple. In fact, whenever we're told
• 3:25
  that we're out of date or the date is expired on it, we just
• 3:29
  simply get it. So who seems to have the mental
• 3:33
  problems or disability or non functioning brain that they
• 3:37
  don't know how to get an ID? Well, that's the thing.

  It's not that they don't know, it's that they simply cannot
• 3:44
  afford it. You see, in some states, you pay
• 3:47
  40-50 bucks to get your ID renewed.

  Now, if you're dirt poor, barely scraping by on food stamps, and

  you've got three kids to feed, that's two weeks worth of
• 3:57
  groceries you're going to burn just to vote.

  And in most places, that ID is valid only for six years.

  So every six years you're expected to cough up that money.

  Now let's talk about folks who've just migrated from

  war-torn countries. Don't speak the language, Got

  nobody to help them fill out forms?

  How do they stand in line at the DMV with no wheels?

  If your car broke down, you're not renewing anything.

  It's less about laziness, more about poverty.

  I live in Missouri, I live in a rural area, and hell, it's

  always been hardcore around here.

  I mean, I've been doing a lot better nowadays, but all

  throughout my life it's been difficult and I can still get a

  justification for illegals to be able to vote.

  That's dumb. If that's seriously a problem,

  then the government can use taxpayer money to make sure that

  legal people have legal ID. That's fine.

  If they're willing to waste money on fucking transgender

  never made it national and automatic.

  So in blue states it's still a fee plus a trek to the DMV that

  half the working poor can't swing without missing a shift.

  They're just getting told jump through hoops or lose your voice

  while the same government mails out stimulus checks like candy.

  Fix the damn funding, mail the IDs, Problem solved.

  Trump keeps on babbling on and coherently about sending out

  stimulus checks to the poor in the middle class.

  You can't say we don't have money to issue IDs when you're

  handing out two grand to every living soul.

  So why are the conservatives dragging this shit on for?
