- 14:25Speaker 7: More but, hey that's just. Me NOW.
- 14:33Speaker 1: I have this story about people who think all. Animals
- 14:42Speaker 1: wild animals should be their. PETS a man was trying
- 14:50Speaker 1: to drive an injured raccoon to a nature, center but
- 14:54Speaker 1: it bit him on the face and. HANDS a man
- 14:59Speaker 1: In georgia came a an injured raccoon on the side
- 15:02Speaker 1: of the. Road let me ask you. This you guys
- 15:05Speaker 1: are driving down a. Highway how many of you have
- 15:09Speaker 1: stopped if you've seen like a animal that looks a little?
- 15:12Speaker 7: Wonky zero one of.
- 15:17Speaker 1: You so this, guy apparently a raccoon, hugger decided to
- 15:25Speaker 1: give the animal a lift to a nature. Center he
- 15:28Speaker 1: wrapped the raccoon in his coat and held it against
- 15:32Speaker 1: his chest while driving for over an. Hour the raccoon
- 15:40Speaker 1: bit the man on his face and. Hands so what
- 15:44Speaker 1: does this guy? Do throw him out the? Truck oh, no, no, no, no.
- 15:50Speaker 1: No you wrap it in a blanket with duct tape
- 15:54Speaker 1: and continue. Driving once he got to the nature, center
- 15:59Speaker 1: the staff put the raccoon in a, kennel send it
- 16:03Speaker 1: to a, vet and force the man to go to the.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Hospital turns, out and this is going to be a
- 16:11Speaker 1: shock to all of you who follow, animals the raccoon had,
- 16:15Speaker 1: rabies so it was euthanized and the man had to
- 16:23Speaker 1: go through Those rabi. Shots the Nature sinner said that
- 16:28Speaker 1: while the guy's heart was in the right, place his
- 16:31Speaker 1: brain was. Empty i'll put that part. In no one
- 16:35Speaker 1: should ever do this because he put everyone he came
- 16:39Speaker 1: in contact with at. Risk there were children at the
- 16:44Speaker 1: nature center at the. Time my, gosh won't somebody please
- 16:48Speaker 1: think of the. Children they also note that they are
- 16:52Speaker 1: not licensed for raccoon rehabilitation and only accept, raptors, reptiles and,
- 17:00Speaker 1: Amphibians so he's not sure why the guy brought it
- 17:02Speaker 1: there to begin.
- 17:03Speaker 7: WITH i GUESS i guess the.
- 17:10Speaker 1: Moral of our story here is don't pick up injured
- 17:17Speaker 1: raccoons on the side of the. Road you, know these
- 17:25Speaker 1: people that do stuff like, that they vote and they have.
- 17:28Speaker 7: Children very. Scary. NOW i know many of you saw
- 17:37Speaker 7: this story because many of you sent me this. STORY
- 17:40Speaker 7: i had already seen, it but thank.
- 17:41Speaker 1: You as, always when you see stories that you THINK
- 17:44Speaker 1: i might, use by all, means send them to. Me
- 17:50Speaker 1: this was a raccoon that broke into A virginia liquor
- 17:54Speaker 1: store Early saturday and went after the scotch and the
- 17:59Speaker 1: whiskey at the on the bottom shelf bottles were smashed
- 18:04Speaker 1: a ceiling, tile collapsed alcohol all over the. Floor saturday,
- 18:12Speaker 1: morning an employee at The ashland area liquor store found
- 18:17Speaker 1: the trash panneda passed out on the bathroom floor.
- 18:21Speaker 7: At the end of his drunken.
- 18:22Speaker 1: Escapade, NOW i had said he is trying to get
- 18:27Speaker 1: to the toilet to throw, up but apparently he didn't make.
- 18:30Speaker 1: IT i personally like, raccoon Says Samantha, martin an officer
- 18:35Speaker 1: who works at a local animal Control they're funny little.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Critters i'm going to tell you they're vicious little. Critters
- 18:42Speaker 1: they may look, cute but if given half a, chance
- 18:46Speaker 1: they will kill. You so get them before they get.
- 18:50Speaker 1: You he fell through one of the ceiling tiles and
- 18:54Speaker 1: went on a full blown, rampage drinking. Everything in other,
- 18:59Speaker 1: words like a college. Student martin said she took the
- 19:03Speaker 1: raccoon back to the animal. Shelter another day in the
- 19:08Speaker 1: life of an animal control. OFFICER i guess, raccoons of,
- 19:13Speaker 1: course found all Over. Virginia they're found all over. Here
- 19:18Speaker 1: if you own a liquor store by the way, HERE
- 19:20Speaker 1: i hope you have those bars and locks on, there
- 19:23Speaker 1: and you've double proofed your. Ceiling so raccoons can't dig
- 19:28Speaker 1: through the hole in your ceiling and drop into your liquor,
- 19:31Speaker 1: store because they. Will The Hanover County Animal protection And
- 19:35Speaker 1: shelter Commended martin for handling the break in and did confirm.
- 19:41Speaker 7: The raccoon had sobered up but had a heck of a.
- 19:44Speaker 7: HEADACHE i put that part.
- 19:46Speaker 1: In after a few hours of sleep and zero signs of,
- 19:51Speaker 1: injury he was safely released back into the, wild hopefully
- 19:57Speaker 1: having learned that breaking and entering is not the. Answer
- 20:04Speaker 1: not the first time a raccoon was found in a
- 20:06Speaker 1: place where it shouldn't have. Been In, may In, ohio
- 20:09Speaker 1: a raccoon was found with a glass meth amphetipine a
- 20:13Speaker 1: meth amphetamine pipe in its mouth and was sitting in
- 20:18Speaker 1: the driver's seat of a. Car he was smoking. Meth
- 20:25Speaker 1: the vehicle was pulled Over license And registration. Police the
- 20:34Speaker 1: vehicle was pulled over because it's a registered, owner had
- 20:37Speaker 1: an active warrant and a suspended driver's.
- 20:40Speaker 7: License so this trash panda got.
- 20:43Speaker 1: The owner of the car in, trouble. Right they've been
- 20:46Speaker 1: looking for, this so you, KNOW i find this hard
- 20:51Speaker 1: to believe. Too this poor guy who had an active
- 20:57Speaker 1: warrant and suspended driver's license was apparently a meth.
- 21:01Speaker 7: HEAD i, mean who saw that?
- 21:03Speaker 8: Coming?
- 21:04Speaker 7: Seriously but we have, ESTABLISHED i.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Think in these two stories this is how we go
- 21:15Speaker 1: about science, here that trash pandas love alcohol and they love,
- 21:20Speaker 1: meth and you want to keep them away from. Both
- 21:25Speaker 1: and how do you do? That will you carry guns with?
- 21:28Speaker 1: You we're allowed to do that In. Texas and then
- 21:31Speaker 1: you shoot them and you tell the animal control officer
- 21:35Speaker 1: he was attacking, me or at least he had that
- 21:39Speaker 1: look in his eye.
- 21:40Speaker 7: That he was about to attack. Me Now i've said
- 21:42Speaker 7: this before we went. Up we went to.
- 21:47Speaker 1: Was It? Glacier was The National park In colorado AND
- 21:51Speaker 1: i mean In. California and we stayed at this hotel
- 21:55Speaker 1: right outside the park and you sign in and they
- 21:58Speaker 1: have pictures of raccoon's, going these are our, friends blah,
- 22:02Speaker 1: Blah and this Is, california of, course you, know don't you?
- 22:06Speaker 1: Know let the raccoons be, well the raccoons are, everywhere
- 22:10Speaker 1: and they weigh about one hundred pounds because people have
- 22:14Speaker 1: been feeding them and they're digging into. Garbage and we're
- 22:17Speaker 1: on the second. FLOOR i get to my, room there's
- 22:19Speaker 1: a like six of them surrounding me staring at me
- 22:25Speaker 1: after they've been rummaging through the trash, kid.
- 22:30Speaker 4: And i'm going there may be some people around here
- 22:32Speaker 4: that think this is, cute But i'm not one of.
- 22:34Speaker 7: THEM i don't want.
- 22:36Speaker 1: These big fat trash can that pandas with the sharp
- 22:39Speaker 1: teeth coming after. Me but, no the owners of this,
- 22:43Speaker 1: motel they just thought that was the cutest. Thing and they,
- 22:49Speaker 1: THOUGHT i guess, That, hey have you been to the
- 22:54Speaker 1: motel and it wasn't a? Hotel have you been to
- 22:56Speaker 1: the motel with the by the, way almost never seen motels?
- 23:01Speaker 1: Anymore do you you have motel, six but you don't
- 23:04Speaker 1: have much else they were used To there were always,
- 23:07Speaker 1: motels and now whether they're motels or, hotels they call
- 23:10Speaker 1: themselves hotels because the connotation of motel is not.
- 23:13Speaker 7: Great BUT i.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Digress they, THINK i guess by having lots of trash bands,
- 23:22Speaker 1: around people are gonna, go, hey you need to go
- 23:25Speaker 1: to this motel because they got raccoons everywhere and they're so.
- 23:32Speaker 1: CUTE i, mean why do these people do stuff like? This,

- 28:08Speaker 1: an outdoor podcast from The southeast. TEXAS region i don't
- 28:12Speaker 1: know what the biggest redfish you've ever, caught Is but
- 28:16Speaker 1: chester has this story about one that you'll never get.
- 28:21Speaker 7: Close to.
- 28:23Speaker 16: The last program about mysterious speckled trout hybrids did, incredibly
- 28:28Speaker 16: well got just a huge number, of downloads lots of
- 28:32Speaker 16: shares out on social media for this, particular episode but
- 28:35Speaker 16: a different.
- 28:36Speaker 10: SPECIES redfish i.
- 28:39Speaker 16: Got to look them through the chronicles of redfish through
- 28:41Speaker 16: out there range In the Gulf of mexico In, the
- 28:43Speaker 16: ATLANTIC and i came across the world record redfish now
- 28:48Speaker 16: On The. Gulf coast this fish doesn't get a whole
- 28:51Speaker 16: lot of play because it's not From The. Gulf coast
- 28:53Speaker 16: it's From. The atlantic but you have to check. This
- 28:56Speaker 16: out the world record redfish was ninety four pounds.
- 29:02Speaker 10: Two ounces it.
- 29:04Speaker 16: Was caught in nineteen eighty four from the Shore In
- 29:08Speaker 16: north carolina by a Man Named david dule who worked
- 29:13Speaker 16: For The National Marine, fishery service who's fishing a chunk
- 29:16Speaker 16: of cut mullet and caught this massive fish after an hour. Long,
- 29:22Speaker 16: Battle now i've caught lots of redfish in like thirty
- 29:25Speaker 16: five to forty. POUND category i mean hundreds, of them
- 29:29Speaker 16: and they're. Huge fish imagine a fish more than. Double
- 29:34Speaker 16: that it's a very very impressive fish, for anything but for,
- 29:39Speaker 16: a redfish it's. Just UNBELIEVABLE and i think people should
- 29:43Speaker 16: probably start thinking more, about that, you know potential size,
- 29:48Speaker 16: of Redfish because i'm going to show you some stuff
- 29:50Speaker 16: in the numbers that has some promise for.
- 29:53Speaker 5: The.
- 29:53Speaker 16: Future, here now what was most impressive about this fish
- 29:57Speaker 16: was the girth thirty. EIGHT inches a thirty eight inch
- 30:03Speaker 16: round redfish that measured fifty seven inches caught in nineteen
- 30:08Speaker 16: eighty four and that is the world record for the
- 30:12Speaker 16: last thirty. Nine, years now if you start looking at
- 30:16Speaker 16: state records On the, gulf coast you're gonna see some pretty. Interesting,
- 30:20Speaker 16: stuff okay Go at. Texas first this fish was caught
- 30:24Speaker 16: By already longeran in two thousand and, you know it's
- 30:28Speaker 16: a very. Impressive fish fifty nine point five pounds caught
- 30:32Speaker 16: In the Gulf of mexico out Of The sabine. Pass
- 30:35Speaker 16: area now Go. To alabama you see a fish caught in.
- 30:39Speaker 16: Twenty thirteen this fish weighed forty five pounds. Nine Ounces,
- 30:45Speaker 16: in florida the fish was caught right around that same
- 30:49Speaker 16: time period and weighed sixty point seventy. Five pounds louisiana
- 30:53Speaker 16: has a long standing record nineteen ninety two sixty. One
- 30:57Speaker 16: pounds now go Back to mississippi and you see a
- 31:03Speaker 16: record fish caught in twenty sixteen to weg fifty. Two
- 31:06Speaker 16: pounds and go all the way up Along the atlantic
- 31:09Speaker 16: coast and you see multiple records flipped over the last. Twenty,
- 31:13Speaker 16: years now does that mean we're going to catch a
- 31:16Speaker 16: world record redfish atop the ninety four? Pounder tomorrow very.
- 31:20Speaker 16: Highly unlikely but what it does show is there has
- 31:23Speaker 16: been a trend toward some bigger redfish. Being, caught now
- 31:27Speaker 16: this one that was caught was absolutely, a mutant, a
- 31:30Speaker 16: monster but it's possible fish could get that. Big, again
- 31:35Speaker 16: now when scientists start looking at the age of, a
- 31:38Speaker 16: fish they take their odolith the, earbone essentially and they're
- 31:42Speaker 16: able to age a fish by The odolith I've dug.
- 31:45Speaker 16: I'VE called i can't find information on the age Of
- 31:48Speaker 16: The david duel ninety four pounds, Two Os, north carolina
- 31:52Speaker 16: nineteen eighty four, World record BUT what i did find
- 31:56Speaker 16: was some interesting data on redfish age From The North
- 31:59Speaker 16: carolina Department Of. Environmental quality they said regisroom the long
- 32:03Speaker 16: lived species commonly reaching ages in excess of, forty YEARS which.
- 32:07Speaker 16: I knew the oldest one recorded was Taken In north
- 32:11Speaker 16: carolina and was sixty two. Years old and this shows
- 32:17Speaker 16: that these fish growing the older.
- 32:20Speaker 10: They get and, YOU.
- 32:22Speaker 16: Know i fish at sixty two years old and survived lots.
- 32:26Speaker 16: Of stuff and it makes me think about even more
- 32:29Speaker 16: of the importance of putting back. Bull redfish, You know
- 32:32Speaker 16: i've kept a couple of bullreds over the YEARS that i.
- 32:35Speaker 16: DEEP pooped i was fishing for, other species and they
- 32:38Speaker 16: were bleeding. Like CRAZY when i, CAUGHT it i knew they.
- 32:40Speaker 16: Would die but other, Than that i've released every single
- 32:44Speaker 16: Bull redfish i've ever Caught, in texas and the reason
- 32:47Speaker 16: for that is they are. Spawning machines there are the mature,
- 32:51Speaker 16: breeding fish And although i'm allowed to keep two a
- 32:54Speaker 16: year per, A tag i've kept like three since they
- 32:58Speaker 16: had the tags because they were so deep hooked and
- 33:01Speaker 16: it was a bad situation that we're gonna, die ANYWAY.
- 33:03Speaker 10: And i didn't want the crabs that. EAT them i
- 33:05Speaker 10: might as well enjoy.
- 33:05Speaker 16: The MEAT but i am a big proponent of putting
- 33:08Speaker 16: back bull, red fish and it makes me want to
- 33:11Speaker 16: do it even MORE when i realize these fish can
- 33:14Speaker 16: live up to sixty, something.
- 33:16Speaker 10: Years And maybe i'm sure.
- 33:17Speaker 16: Even older so as redfish numbers are protected as conservation
- 33:23Speaker 16: ethics of catchuring release have increased over the last. Thirty
- 33:26Speaker 16: years is it possible we will see a fish eclipse
- 33:31Speaker 16: that ninety four.
- 33:31Speaker 10: Pound record it probably won't happen On the.
- 33:34Speaker 16: Gulf coast it will probably happen On the, atlantic coast
- 33:38Speaker 16: maybe In A. North Carolina now i'm doubtful that record
- 33:42Speaker 16: will ever.
- 33:43Speaker 10: BE toppled.
- 33:45Speaker 16: I just i have suspicions over some of these old records.
- 33:48Speaker 16: Being TOPPLED but i do think we're entering an era
- 33:51Speaker 16: when we're gonna start, seeing more, you know these sixty
- 33:54Speaker 16: pound plus. Red fish if we could have other Like
- 33:57Speaker 16: the texas record could, easily Fall the louisiana record could.
- 34:01Speaker 16: Easily fall and it's a. Positive thing because we see,
- 34:05Speaker 16: records fall that means positive things happening for. The FISHERY
- 34:09Speaker 16: and i have a particular interest in redfish because it's
- 34:12Speaker 16: something that happened to me in the early. TWO thousands
- 34:15Speaker 16: i was actually tagging sharks For The Moat marine laboratory
- 34:18Speaker 16: and doing a little stark Tagging, for seagrant And the
- 34:20Speaker 16: seagrant people asked ME if i would tag any bowl redfish,
- 34:24Speaker 16: we caught and we were Fishing.
- 34:26Speaker 10: IN may i believe.
- 34:28Speaker 16: It was it's, cloudy now but two thousand and two thousand,
- 34:32Speaker 16: and one we were fishing one of the old rigs
- 34:34Speaker 16: about three and a half miles Off the louisiana coast
- 34:37Speaker 16: and also about probably three miles away From The, sabine
- 34:40Speaker 16: jetties and My Friend bill killyan caught about a forty
- 34:44Speaker 16: one forty two inch, red FISH and i measured it
- 34:47Speaker 16: and tagged it and, released it put the tag, in
- 34:50Speaker 16: it the, whole bit. Released it two, Weeks later i'm
- 34:55Speaker 16: fishing se Me and Jeties With bill KILLIAN and i
- 34:57Speaker 16: end up catching, that fish THE fish, i had and
- 35:01Speaker 16: the guy who caught it the first, time after, you
- 35:03Speaker 16: know we were out there grinding it out in some pretty,
- 35:06Speaker 16: nasty seas he was the one who needded. The fish
- 35:09Speaker 16: it was an, incredible experience. You know two, weeks later
- 35:12Speaker 16: three miles away In the Gulf, of mexico my. Own
- 35:14Speaker 16: tagfish that just even made me more interested in red
- 35:17Speaker 16: fish movements and things. Like that and something that's gotten
- 35:20Speaker 16: media attention over the last couple of years. Involving redfish
- 35:24Speaker 16: it's redfish black. Drum hybrids every once in a while
- 35:28Speaker 16: someone will catch a drum looking fish that is bronze
- 35:33Speaker 16: or a redfish looking fish a little bit of striping.
- 35:37Speaker 16: On it and Recently in florida there were two fish
- 35:41Speaker 16: Caught by anglands on the, same day on the. Same
- 35:42Speaker 16: trip there were absolutely red drum black. Drum hybrids it
- 35:47Speaker 16: was like a it was like someone painted a black
- 35:50Speaker 16: drum bronze and It was it, was unbelievable really really
- 35:53Speaker 16: cool at the stripes, and EVERYTHING and i got to
- 35:56Speaker 16: DIGGING after i did the story. Last week by, the
- 35:58Speaker 16: way you got to check out the last up episode
- 36:01Speaker 16: the speckled hybrids that grew up to twenty Pounds. In
- 36:04Speaker 16: texas no one really knew about this for. Many years
- 36:07Speaker 16: cool story checkout in the archives of. The program but did,
- 36:11Speaker 16: you KNOW because, i Didn't That texas Parks and wildlife
- 36:14Speaker 16: actually stalked red black. Drum, hybrids yes in nineteen. Eighty
- 36:20Speaker 16: three in nineteen, Eighty Four texas.
- 36:23Speaker 10: Parks and wildlife stocked red and black.
- 36:26Speaker 16: Drum hybrids they stocked It In Victor Brownig Lake brounie
- 36:30Speaker 16: lake is In The san. Antonio area in nineteen, eighty
- 36:33Speaker 16: three they stalked, five thousand nine hundred and ninety five
- 36:37Speaker 16: of these really interesting black red, Drum hybrids and in
- 36:42Speaker 16: nineteen eighty four they stalked fifty thousand of, these fish
- 36:48Speaker 16: which was pretty Impressive. In bronnig in nineteen, eighty three,
- 36:53Speaker 16: five thousand nine hundred and ninety five juvenile black red
- 36:58Speaker 16: drum hybrid were Stocked In victor broniglake Outside Of.
- 37:01Speaker 10: San antonio in nineteen.
- 37:03Speaker 16: Eighty four forty seven thousand and thirty five juveniles.
- 37:07Speaker 10: Were stocked and check. This out, three thousand three.
- 37:10Speaker 16: Hundred and sixteen adult black drum red drum hybrids were
- 37:16Speaker 16: stocked in nineteen eighty Four In. VICTOR broniglake i can't
- 37:21Speaker 16: find any information on records of any one catching one
- 37:25Speaker 16: of these or. Old photos but if you have information

- 37:30Speaker 16: did or your father, or grandfather email Me at chester
- 37:33Speaker 16: at chestermar, dot com chesteratchestermore.
- 37:37Speaker 10: Dot, com intriguing.
- 37:39Speaker 16: Intriguing stuff his journey on looking about these hybridizations and
- 37:43Speaker 16: unique stockings have been fascinating and also explained some of
- 37:47Speaker 16: the things that people tells people have told in, the
- 37:50Speaker 16: past and people talk about they caught this or they saw,
- 37:54Speaker 16: this fish and others, are, like.
- 37:56Speaker 10: Nah, that's crazy that.
- 37:57Speaker 16: Never, happened well some of the research have been doing
- 37:59Speaker 16: shows may maybe some of these sightings, Were real maybe
- 38:01Speaker 16: some of these catches.
- 38:02Speaker 10: Were real so this week going to bring you a
- 38:05Speaker 10: tale of a ninety four pound.
- 38:07Speaker 16: Red FISH why i think we're on a trend to
- 38:10Speaker 16: see redfish numbers toppled in terms of. State records all
- 38:14Speaker 16: On the Gulf And. Atlantic coast now that we're conserving,
- 38:16Speaker 16: more fish there's no commercial fish reform as there was in.
- 38:19Speaker 16: The past and the strange but true story of not
- 38:24Speaker 16: only juvenile black and red drum hybrid stock in A,
- 38:27Speaker 16: Freshwater lincoln texas in nineteen eighty three and nineteen, eighty
- 38:30Speaker 16: four but three three hundred and. Sixteen adults, weird stuff.

- 38:56Speaker 1: more Interesting interviews i've done in terms of what goes
- 39:02Speaker 1: on outdoors. And hunters, This Guy ken johnson is Up
- 39:11Speaker 1: in maine and he has. A company and this isn't
- 39:17Speaker 1: the name of, the company but the website is predatorp.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Dot com and you will understand completely when you hear
- 39:27Speaker 1: this Interview With. Ken Johnson, all right we're going to

- 39:36Speaker 1: now and visit with the Founder Of Maine, Outdoor Solutions Ken.
- 39:41Speaker 1: JOHNSON ken i ran. ACROSS this I think i was
- 39:46Speaker 1: reading an article in an. Outdoor magazine i'm not. EXACTLY
- 39:50Speaker 1: sure i have certainly been aware of smells and skunk
- 39:57Speaker 1: urine and, dough urine having been in the outdoor for
- 40:00Speaker 1: as LONG as. I have, but man, you go you
- 40:03Speaker 1: guys go well, beyond that do?
- 40:05Speaker 8: You, not yes, we do and we've we've got an
- 40:09Speaker 8: interesting story of how it all. Came about to let
- 40:13Speaker 8: me hear it. All, right well back in, THE eighties
- 40:19Speaker 8: i was had a marketing company and one of my
- 40:22Speaker 8: Clients Was, wayne bossowitz and he was a very well
- 40:28Speaker 8: known bear. Hunting guide his guide service Was Called Foggy
- 40:34Speaker 8: Mountain guide service Here, in maine and he had a
- 40:37Speaker 8: Camp in ontario. As well he was well known in.
- 40:42Speaker 8: The industry he Was Named North american guide Out for
- 40:46Speaker 8: outfitter Of the Year By North american hunter during, that
- 40:49Speaker 8: period and he was he was a real force in the.
- 40:54Speaker 8: Hunting world he had, very interesting very interesting mix, of
- 41:01Speaker 8: Clients Including ted Nugent And. Williams Junior wayne lapierre had
- 41:08Speaker 8: AN n ra and a bunch of, other people and
- 41:12Speaker 8: He was that was my introduction to the. Hunting world at,
- 41:18Speaker 8: the time and he had come up with a couple
- 41:21Speaker 8: of products that he was just giving to his hunters
- 41:26Speaker 8: when they came because, bear hunting bears have an incredible
- 41:33Speaker 8: sense of smell and the biggest challenge for a hunter
- 41:38Speaker 8: was to be able to get close. Enough Undetected and
- 41:44Speaker 8: wayne had developed this product called that he Called, pro
- 41:47Speaker 8: cover and he mixed it up in his barn and
- 41:51Speaker 8: he was just giving it out to. His hunters and,
- 41:56Speaker 8: you know one thing led, to another and the hunters
- 41:58Speaker 8: were asking him from work to, send them to send them,
- 42:01Speaker 8: to THEM and i was doing the marketing for his,
- 42:05Speaker 8: guide service and so we started talking about putting this
- 42:08Speaker 8: product on, the market and then. We did and then
- 42:12Speaker 8: several YEARS later i bought the product line from him
- 42:16Speaker 8: and expanded it with his help over the years to
- 42:21Speaker 8: the kind of product line we.
- 42:23Speaker 7: Have now were you, A, CHEMIST no.
- 42:27Speaker 8: I was a.
- 42:27Speaker 1: Marketing guy so how did you end up coming up
- 42:32Speaker 1: with all these sense that you have on the?
- 42:34Speaker 8: Market, now well part, of it Again was wayne's knowledge
- 42:39Speaker 8: of working with the animals, for many, many years and,
- 42:44Speaker 8: you know he just we played around with, different things.
- 42:50Speaker 8: Environmental ones, you know, for example, the idea the basic
- 42:54Speaker 8: idea is that you either attract, the, game yes or
- 42:57Speaker 8: you retalize your human sense ye to get. Closer ye
- 43:02Speaker 8: and as we say in, our slogan you're, only human
- 43:06Speaker 8: but you don't have to smell. Like one.
- 43:09Speaker 1: So you did not obviously come from an outdoors, background, Necessarily,
- 43:14Speaker 1: RIGHT no.
- 43:15Speaker 8: I didn't wayne introduced me, to that AND then i
- 43:18Speaker 8: got more involved obviously over. The years but and again
- 43:23Speaker 8: most of, our, products oh i'd say all. Of them,
- 43:27Speaker 8: you know you're you've got somebody who who's in that life, every,
- 43:32Speaker 8: day yan and he's able to do the testing and,
- 43:36Speaker 8: then uh you know the. Customer feedback, you know people
- 43:40Speaker 8: don't buy it if it, don't work, You know.
- 43:43Speaker 1: So how do you how do you capture coyote set
- 43:47Speaker 1: or mountain lion set or a?
- 43:50Speaker 7: Wolf set how does?
- 43:51Speaker 17: That?
- 43:52Speaker 8: Happen, okay well the transition from the hunting market to
- 43:59Speaker 8: the lawn and guard and market was a pretty, significant
- 44:02Speaker 8: one and it happened in nineteen, eighty six and we
- 44:07Speaker 8: were exclusively selling, hunting products primarily, through dealers and that
- 44:13Speaker 8: was Before. The internet and one spring outside of hunting and,
- 44:19Speaker 8: trapping season we get an order for fox sharing From
- 44:23Speaker 8: an aghway Store In new HAMPSHIRE, and i, you know
- 44:27Speaker 8: kind of curious. About THAT so i call them up, and,
- 44:30Speaker 8: say well it's kind. Of interesting why are you buying
- 44:32Speaker 8: it this time? Of year and, he, says well everybody
- 44:36Speaker 8: around here uses it to keep the rabbits out of.
- 44:38Speaker 8: Their garden and it was a kind of a light
- 44:42Speaker 8: bulb moment, for me thinking from a. Marketing, guy again
- 44:46Speaker 8: that lawn and garden market, was, perhaps well it is
- 44:50Speaker 8: significantly larger than the, hunting market so it was something
- 44:54Speaker 8: that we decided to. Move into, and again it's a,
- 44:58Speaker 8: fascinating thing and you're working with urines because you're really
- 45:03Speaker 8: just taking what the way things work in nature and changing,
- 45:09Speaker 8: the purpose. You know so this idea of being able
- 45:14Speaker 8: to use, a urine the urine of, a predator in
- 45:18Speaker 8: order to send a message to another animal that would
- 45:22Speaker 8: be a prey of, those predators it's it's fascinating because,
- 45:28Speaker 8: you know you can you can. Picture it, you say
- 45:31Speaker 8: a deer comes into your yard and he sees that
- 45:35Speaker 8: beautiful arbor vity edge that you've got and he starts moving,
- 45:39Speaker 8: towards it and all of a sudden he catches a
- 45:43Speaker 8: whiff of. A coyote he's got a decision, to make
- 45:48Speaker 8: and instinct tells him what that decision.
- 45:50Speaker 1: Will be you have something to repel. Faral, hogs yes the.
- 45:56Speaker 8: Faral hogs mountain lion urine is the one for.
- 46:00Speaker 1: Faral hogs that's is that the only one that works
- 46:03Speaker 1: or are just the one that works.
- 46:04Speaker 8: The best it's the one that works. The best some,
- 46:07Speaker 8: use it some use it for used. Wolf heurin, in
- 46:12Speaker 8: fact one of our we sell worldwide and our Distributor
- 46:17Speaker 8: in japan. Buys it buys wolf urine pretty much exclusively
- 46:23Speaker 8: to keep the wild boar out of the Rice pal.
- 46:27Speaker 1: So how much of the product does it take and
- 46:30Speaker 1: over how long a period of time will?
- 46:32Speaker 8: It, last well it's again it's a. Natural product so
- 46:38Speaker 8: that the fresher or the fresher is, the application the stronger. The,
- 46:42Speaker 8: message yes so we we have. A dispenser we call
- 46:48Speaker 8: it a thirty three day dispenser because it's it's a
- 46:53Speaker 8: little vial that holds about an ounce or so of
- 46:56Speaker 8: urine that you hang on a stake every ten feet
- 47:00Speaker 8: around the area you want. To protect and you know
- 47:04Speaker 8: that we say freshen it up once a month and. That.
- 47:08Speaker 7: Works fun what is your best?
- 47:10Speaker 4: Selling product, ken well that.
- 47:13Speaker 8: Again is interesting because when we first started, doing it
- 47:17Speaker 8: coyote urine was our, biggest seller and it was it
- 47:21Speaker 8: was used primarily for the. Deer, problem yes but over
- 47:27Speaker 8: time we've been doing this almost forty years now is
- 47:30Speaker 8: over time another urine has caught up, to it and it's.
- 47:35Speaker 8: Wolf urine and that's because of the the what's now
- 47:41Speaker 8: a huge problem across, the country even, in cities is a. Coyote,
- 47:45Speaker 8: problem yes so the wolf uron. Repels coyotes they don't,
- 47:50Speaker 8: their territories don't.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Mix YOU and i told my daughter about this because
- 47:56Speaker 1: she had a fox getting her. Chicken coop And so
- 48:00Speaker 1: i'm guessing you sell a lot of protection for chickens
- 48:05Speaker 1: and people who raise chickens.
- 48:07Speaker 8: As, well yeah the chicken market. Has grown and again
- 48:12Speaker 8: it's interesting because in all of these product category products
- 48:17Speaker 8: in our predatory, urine line they so many of them
- 48:21Speaker 8: have been developed from customer feedback or. Customer questions and
- 48:26Speaker 8: the chicken market is an interesting one because obviously foxes
- 48:31Speaker 8: and other raccoons and things are a problem that the
- 48:35Speaker 8: urines can, deal with but another major problem for chicken people.
- 48:40Speaker 17: Is.
- 48:41Speaker 8: Hawks, fox now hawks don't respond to a sense. Of
- 48:46Speaker 8: smell their defense is their Eyesight correct and so working
- 48:52Speaker 8: with them SOMEBODY that i knew From the University of
- 48:55Speaker 8: maine who was a, raptor specialist we came up with
- 49:01Speaker 8: a product that we Call, hawk stopper which is a
- 49:04Speaker 8: very fine monofilment netting that you hang over the over
- 49:09Speaker 8: the chicken coops of the runs now to a hawk
- 49:13Speaker 8: that their eyesight is so keen they can see that grid,
- 49:17Speaker 8: from high high up and it looks like steel bars. To.
- 49:21Speaker 8: Them amazing so it's a visual deflection and that's become
- 49:26Speaker 8: a very big seller for Us to so.
- 49:28Speaker 1: What what percentage now of your business IS just i
- 49:33Speaker 1: would call it more urban in terms of gardens and
- 49:37Speaker 1: things like that versus hunters who are still running.
- 49:41Speaker 8: Your, PRODUCT yes i mean, the, garden lawn garden market
- 49:46Speaker 8: is is the major part Of.
- 49:47Speaker 4: Our wow now wow what what what do?
- 49:51Speaker 1: Hunters? Usually what what's your biggest selling item? To outdoorsman the.
- 49:57Speaker 8: Two biggest selling items are the the original pro Cover
- 50:02Speaker 8: that wayne developed As a camo scent and are our
- 50:06Speaker 8: hot dough which is a dough and.
- 50:08Speaker 1: Heat urine so the first one it neutralizes, human scent
- 50:14Speaker 1: is that what?
- 50:14Speaker 8: It? Does Yeah, and actually it's kind of a. Confusion
- 50:19Speaker 8: element it's it camouflages the scent so that it's not
- 50:23Speaker 8: something that's frightening to.
- 50:25Speaker 1: The, animals, Yes uh and and that comes in, Spray
- 50:29Speaker 1: bottles i'm guessing.
- 50:30Speaker 8: It does it comes in two four and eight ounce
- 50:33Speaker 8: bottles and, they're squeeze squeeze or spray whichever one.
- 50:36Speaker 1: Can get and so how how how many of these
- 50:40Speaker 1: products are are come in? Liquid form how many of
- 50:44Speaker 1: them in? Spray form or or do you? Combine them
- 50:47Speaker 1: are can you?
- 50:48Speaker 8: Get? Both, yeah well they're they're all in liquids, with
- 50:52Speaker 8: it and most of them have a spray attachment so
- 50:55Speaker 8: that you can you can use it either way as
- 50:58Speaker 8: a straight liquid.
- 51:00Speaker 1: Or spread you mentioned that already you have Clients, in
- 51:05Speaker 1: japan your your your business? Goes Worldwide, kN yes.
- 51:09Speaker 7: It does and who.
- 51:12Speaker 4: Who outside Of The united states is your? Best client.
- 51:16Speaker 8: Well That the japan is our biggest team really.
- 51:20Speaker 7: And because of?
- 51:21Speaker 4: Wild boars are there many other things that you that you're?
- 51:24Speaker 8: Selling there it's primarily it's used for an in, commercial application. Agriculture,
- 51:31Speaker 8: applications okay we it's it's hard, to imagine but we
- 51:37Speaker 8: they buy so much that we have to Ship At.
- 51:39Speaker 8: Ocean freight oh, my.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Gosh unbelievable that that. Is incredible i'm my thinking is
- 51:47Speaker 1: there are so many wild pigs around all Over The
- 51:52Speaker 1: united states now that that that part of the business,
- 51:54Speaker 1: has grown has?
- 51:55Speaker 8: It? Not yes, It, has yes.
- 51:57Speaker 1: It is and and primarily you're looking at at coyote
- 52:02Speaker 1: or do you use wolf urine for hogs as well or.
- 52:05Speaker 4: As coyote the main.
- 52:06Speaker 8: It's the it's a. Mountain lion you're a mountain lion.
- 52:09Speaker 8: And wolf those two.
- 52:10Speaker 4: Mount mountain lion. And wolf and so what do you
- 52:15Speaker 4: have to keep mountain lions away.
- 52:22Speaker 8: When you get up that high on the. Food, chain yeah. That's,
- 52:24Speaker 8: challenging yeah yeah. We do we do sell barri urine
