- 0:05Speaker 1: NFL Now is a production of the NFL in partnership
- 0:08Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. Big Day. We got a big show. Welcome
- 0:19Speaker 1: to a Thursday edition of NFL Now on NFL Network.
- 0:23Speaker 1: My name is andrews Ceciliano. This right here is my
- 0:25Speaker 1: good friend Brian Balding. Do you know what today is? Baldy? Yes?
- 0:30Speaker 1: What else? I know? It's March thirtieth? What else? It is?
- 0:34Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson's Pro Day? It is. I thought you were
- 0:37Speaker 1: going to say it's opening day in baseball, but yes,
- 0:40Speaker 1: it is Anthony Richardson's Pro Day. You know what it
- 0:43Speaker 1: also is and in Hooker's Pro Day, Hendon Hooker's Pro Day.
- 0:47Speaker 1: It's exactly one month draft, twenty eight days, four weeks
- 0:51Speaker 1: from today. Baldy didn't know there was going to be
- 0:53Speaker 1: a quiz. That's not on him. Rock Gardless, We've got
- 0:56Speaker 1: a big show, and we're going to show you not
- 0:59Speaker 1: only Anthony Richardson, but Hendon Hooker on the football field
- 1:02Speaker 1: as well. Richardson Pro Day video coming up shortly from Gainesville. First, however,
- 1:07Speaker 1: Mike Garafolo was here with info because this is always
- 1:10Speaker 1: big Garafolo Info. As I go out of order here,
- 1:15Speaker 1: we just show the vo of the coaches. That's on me,
- 1:17Speaker 1: not on anyone else. Pete Carroll and there's Anthony Richardson,
- 1:21Speaker 1: Frank Reich was there, Doug Peterson was there, all there
- 1:25Speaker 1: to see Mike Garafolo's information, obviously because they were watching
- 1:29Speaker 1: NFL Now on their mobile devices. Hi there, Mike, Yeah,
- 1:31Speaker 1: here we are. It's important how he throws. It's also
- 1:34Speaker 1: important with whom he meets the night before the night
- 1:37Speaker 1: before the pro day dinner list was who the Carolina Panthers,
- 1:43Speaker 1: but also a meeting with the Las Vegas Raiders. And
- 1:45Speaker 1: if this sounds familiar, this is exactly how it went
- 1:48Speaker 1: for Bryce Young and c J. Strout. Young. I know
- 1:51Speaker 1: for sure because I was there covering the Alabama Pro Day.
- 1:54Speaker 1: He met with the Raiders after he was done dining
- 1:56Speaker 1: with the Carolina Panthers. So clearly the Raiders definitely in
- 2:00Speaker 1: the mix for these quarterbacks, depending on how things fall
- 2:02Speaker 1: and whether they're going to be able to slide up.
- 2:04Speaker 1: This is something and that they have explored previously. Richardson's
- 2:09Speaker 1: certainly showing the ability. Now. If you watch the protay
- 2:11Speaker 1: on NFL Plus, you saw you heard Steve Smith during
- 2:14Speaker 1: the workout talk about Yeah, the skill set is there,
- 2:17Speaker 1: but some of the finer details are missing in Richardson's game,
- 2:21Speaker 1: and that's why this guy is more of a developmental prospect.
- 2:24Speaker 1: So there has been buzzed and Thomas Davis was one
- 2:27Speaker 1: of the ones that started with this when he mentioned
- 2:29Speaker 1: it on Total Access a couple of weeks ago that
- 2:31Speaker 1: maybe the Panthers wind up taking Anthony Richardson with that
- 2:34Speaker 1: first overall pick. I don't know if I'm necessarily buying that,
- 2:38Speaker 1: because again, it's an incomplete prospect that we're looking at here,
- 2:41Speaker 1: a guy that's going to take a while to hone
- 2:44Speaker 1: the finer details of his game, whereas maybe Bryce Young CJ.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Stroud more ready to play right away. But it is
- 2:51Speaker 1: certainly in the conversation and something that's been buzzed about.
- 2:53Speaker 1: And if you're looking for the ability, if you're looking
- 2:56Speaker 1: for the ceiling, it was certainly on display today. Yeah. Also,
- 2:59Speaker 1: by the way, before I before, Yeah, he did hit
- 3:02Speaker 1: the ceiling. Way to go, Andrew, Also you missed que earlier,
- 3:05Speaker 1: I missed Mike and this one. Osiris Tarrence, the offensive
- 3:08Speaker 1: lineman for the Florida Gators. As Tom report, if he
- 3:10Speaker 1: had dinner with the Tennessee Titans. He also has meetings
- 3:13Speaker 1: coming up with the Falcons, the New Orleans Saints, and
- 3:16Speaker 1: the Los Angeles Rams, another gator that's got a shot
- 3:19Speaker 1: to go in Round one. Again. That was for Tom
- 3:22Speaker 1: Palaceo reporting that earlier. So a lot of interest in
- 3:25Speaker 1: Osiris Tarrance, who you could see did some workouts today,
- 3:29Speaker 1: who looked very good at the Senior Bowl when he
- 3:31Speaker 1: had him working in the middle of that line down
- 3:32Speaker 1: inomobile real quick, doubling back to the dinners for the quarterback.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Do we know were they in the same restaurant, because
- 3:38Speaker 1: in Tuscaloosa it's been reported they were at the Raiders
- 3:41Speaker 1: and Panthers defense or dinners were in opposite sides of
- 3:45Speaker 1: the same restaurant. Yeah, Bryce Young, Yeah, of course it's
- 3:49Speaker 1: been reported. I told you that that day he got
- 3:51Speaker 1: up from the Panthers table and he just walked right
- 3:53Speaker 1: over to the Raiders table forgot and he sat down
- 3:55Speaker 1: with him. It wasn't a dinner with the Raiders, Like
- 3:57Speaker 1: it's up. If a guy doubles up on meals, you know,
- 4:02Speaker 1: that's that's a bad you know. Yeah, So it was
- 4:04Speaker 1: like he had his knee here and then note all
- 4:06Speaker 1: the thanks, I ate already. I'm good. I ate right
- 4:07Speaker 1: over there. That's the way it went. Okay, it's reported.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Could mean you, you know, we're off and running. Thank you.
- 4:15Speaker 1: Mine watching the show that day you were hosting it.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I was hosting because I mean I was watching. I
- 4:20Speaker 1: mean two very different things. Bryce Young. One according to
- 4:25Speaker 1: Daniel Jeremiah's mock draft three point oh Anthony Richardson. Four
- 4:31Speaker 1: There interesting is he in a conversation Mark Ross? And
- 4:36Speaker 1: four could be in the conversation with what he did.
- 4:38Speaker 1: Potentially at three somebody wants to get up and trade
- 4:41Speaker 1: to where Arizona is, Mark Ross, you were taking notes?
- 4:45Speaker 1: Would you see today in Gainesville? Man? After ten years
- 4:49Speaker 1: of star proteins, I probably saw something today. I haven't
- 4:51Speaker 1: seen it in in a quarterback pro day. He did backflips
- 4:54Speaker 1: after the workout was over with, So I haven't seen
- 4:57Speaker 1: that one before. But hey, look at this point with
- 4:59Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, you already know that the guy can work out.
- 5:02Speaker 1: He crushed it at the combine and the physical test
- 5:05Speaker 1: portion of it. You know he has a live arm.
- 5:08Speaker 1: You know he can move around. So when you saw
- 5:10Speaker 1: him today at this throwing session, you saw those things.
- 5:13Speaker 1: You saw the live arm, you saw the movement. But again,
- 5:16Speaker 1: as we keep talking about with these throwing sessions, how
- 5:19Speaker 1: much does that really translate to how they play on
- 5:22Speaker 1: the field. If people like Anthony Richardson and they want
- 5:24Speaker 1: to sell Anthony Richardson, it's all about what you saw
- 5:27Speaker 1: today and all the physical attributes that you think you
- 5:30Speaker 1: can develop, and you'll have to sort of talk your
- 5:33Speaker 1: way through the film and say the inconsistencies I see
- 5:36Speaker 1: on film, the lack of vision, the sort of the production,
- 5:39Speaker 1: the lack of wins. You'll have to talk yourself into
- 5:41Speaker 1: that and keep selling yourself on this physical specimen that
- 5:46Speaker 1: we have here. We can develop that into a quarterback.
- 5:49Speaker 1: So at this point, there it is. There's a black
- 5:51Speaker 1: backflips right there. Have never seen a So Anthony Richardson,
- 5:53Speaker 1: you've got that vote. But Baldie, it's really about reconciling
- 5:57Speaker 1: the physical attributes. Can he be the Josh Allen, the
- 6:00Speaker 1: next Josh Allen, because he's going to be the measuring
- 6:02Speaker 1: stick of not great film, but the physical attributes, or
- 6:05Speaker 1: will he be another guy that really didn't perform well,
- 6:08Speaker 1: just has vitical traits that doesn't develop. That's what you
- 6:11Speaker 1: really have to reconcile where you take Anthony Richardson. You
- 6:14Speaker 1: have to look at the resume here, Mark, I mean
- 6:16Speaker 1: the resume says back red shirt in twenty twenty, back
- 6:20Speaker 1: up in twenty twenty one, a fifty three percent completion,
- 6:24Speaker 1: quarterback in twenty twenty two as a starter, thirteen starts.
- 6:28Speaker 1: I mean, if we just look at what happened this
- 6:29Speaker 1: past season in the NFL, I mean Kenny Pickett started
- 6:33Speaker 1: at Pittsburgh forty nine starts at the University of Pittsburgh,
- 6:36Speaker 1: Black Purdy forty seven starts, with his time at Iowa State.
- 6:41Speaker 1: I mean, playing matters and what we're what you're seeing
- 6:44Speaker 1: what a lot of us are saying, Yes, back flips
- 6:47Speaker 1: and crushing a combine and pro days, it's great. But
- 6:52Speaker 1: the experience of playing the position and just everything from
- 6:56Speaker 1: recognition of defenses too, where to go in the progression,
- 6:59Speaker 1: all that stuff is what quarterbacking is all about. And
- 7:03Speaker 1: he lacks in the expi arian's department. How do you
- 7:06Speaker 1: make that up with just physical traits? You better go
- 7:10Speaker 1: to a place, I believe Mark, where he can sit
- 7:12Speaker 1: and watch and learn while he maybe gets you know,
- 7:16Speaker 1: a series here, series they're a package here package there
- 7:20Speaker 1: unless you just want to go back and run Barry
- 7:22Speaker 1: Switzer's you know, wishbone with him, and you could probably
- 7:25Speaker 1: plug him in if you did something like that. I
- 7:27Speaker 1: want to show the video two here of him hitting
- 7:30Speaker 1: the roof. As Michael Jordan once said, the ceiling is
- 7:33Speaker 1: the roof, and the ceiling is quite high for him.
- 7:36Speaker 1: It's kind of like a lottery ticket, Mark, isn't it?
- 7:39Speaker 1: And I hear everything both of you guys are saying
- 7:41Speaker 1: about the lack of experiencing inconsistency and how raw he is.
- 7:46Speaker 1: But you know, DJ and Bucky this morning almost comparing
- 7:48Speaker 1: it to like Tesla or Amazon. You have the chance
- 7:50Speaker 1: to buy this stock and the stock Mi Crater, but
- 7:52Speaker 1: there's a chance that you are getting rich on this stock.
- 7:57Speaker 1: And someone is going to sit here, Mark, aren't they
- 7:59Speaker 1: gonna go? I can't pass this up, no question, Someone's
- 8:03Speaker 1: going to take the guy, take them high. You know,
- 8:05Speaker 1: it just takes one team, no matter what we're talking about.
- 8:08Speaker 1: And listen, in four teams and in draft rooms, you're
- 8:11Speaker 1: going through all this with your area scout might not
- 8:14Speaker 1: like Anthey Richardson at all. Your quarterback coach might love him,
- 8:17Speaker 1: your GM might love him. Your head coach Martin might
- 8:20Speaker 1: not like. So this is the issue that you have
- 8:23Speaker 1: in draft rooms of you're having these same conversations. It's
- 8:26Speaker 1: not as if whoever takes him, everybody is on board
- 8:29Speaker 1: with this. You have these discussions for months with Anthey Richardson,
- 8:32Speaker 1: with all these scouting staffs. But the issue is when
- 8:36Speaker 1: I look at who are the great players in the
- 8:39Speaker 1: NFL right now at the quarterback position, they were great
- 8:41Speaker 1: players in college except Josh Allen. He's the only exception
- 8:45Speaker 1: that we keep going back to. But the boroughs Jalen Hurts.
- 8:47Speaker 1: We talked about Jalen Hursts development, well, that young man
- 8:50Speaker 1: was a dominant player at two different high profile schools.
- 8:54Speaker 1: It wasn't as if he came out of nowhere and
- 8:55Speaker 1: had these tools. So he really is an outlier as well.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Great players were great players. That's the concern. But draft
- 9:02Speaker 1: rooms right now, scouting departments, coaching staffs, they're through all
- 9:05Speaker 1: this as well. Well. I mean, you bring up Josh Allen,
- 9:08Speaker 1: who was a fifty six completion quarterback at Wyoming, and
- 9:10Speaker 1: you look at what Jalen Hurts has done. Both those
- 9:13Speaker 1: guys have taken their games to next level and really,
- 9:16Speaker 1: what it comes down to with both those players is
- 9:18Speaker 1: just their absolute love and devotion to the game, in
- 9:21Speaker 1: addition to the maturity the leadership being loving and being
- 9:26Speaker 1: the face of the organization facing the press every day,
- 9:29Speaker 1: giving them those answers that they give them, Like if
- 9:32Speaker 1: they believe Anthony Richardson has the maturity and the love
- 9:35Speaker 1: and devotion of the game, it's going to help springboard
- 9:39Speaker 1: these teams to take in that risk with him. And
- 9:42Speaker 1: because risk comes reward and if he has that inside
- 9:46Speaker 1: of them, and I don't know how you discover that, Mark,
- 9:49Speaker 1: I mean you've you've been in those battles yourself, you
- 9:52Speaker 1: know as a guy that was personnel director that if
- 9:55Speaker 1: I knew that, I'd feel a lot better about, you know,
- 9:59Speaker 1: taking them high in this draft, Trey Lance, or rather
- 10:02Speaker 1: I beg your part in Anthony Richardson one on one
- 10:04Speaker 1: coming up with Tom Palisero and Steve Smith. Momentarily, guys
- 10:08Speaker 1: will hear from the quarterback himself at Trey Lance out
- 10:11Speaker 1: the head, Thank you, Mark, Thank you bald to here
- 10:12Speaker 1: on the brain because we are going to talk now
- 10:15Speaker 1: about the third overall pick in the twenty twenty one
- 10:18Speaker 1: draft who has barely played all of eight games and
- 10:22Speaker 1: four starts the forty nine ers, or two and two
- 10:25Speaker 1: in those starts. Jed Yard, Niners owner was asked at
- 10:29Speaker 1: the annual meeting if he has any regrets with trade
- 10:32Speaker 1: and up given away so much and taking Trey Lance.
- 10:36Speaker 1: I wouldn't change anything that we've made about the decision
- 10:39Speaker 1: with Trey. I think Trey has a chance to be great.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But it's a bonus when you get somebody at the
- 10:45Speaker 1: end of the seventh round that ends up coming in
- 10:48Speaker 1: and being very impactful for your team. And I mean,
- 10:51Speaker 1: I've said it multiple times with the quarterbacks, whether it
- 10:55Speaker 1: was Alex and Capp, you know, I mean watching Jimmy
- 10:58Speaker 1: and Jimmy and Trey and now you know Brock and
- 11:01Speaker 1: Trey and Sam, you can't have enough good quarterbacks. Like
- 11:05Speaker 1: I wish that we can go back in time and
- 11:07Speaker 1: Steve Bono could be my third string quarterback behind two
- 11:10Speaker 1: future Hall of famers, Like that's fantastic. That gives you
- 11:13Speaker 1: a chance to win and be very, very successful in
- 11:15Speaker 1: this league. Again, you can't worry about well, you know,
- 11:19Speaker 1: Trey hasn't played as many games as we would have liked.
- 11:21Speaker 1: It's not his fault. I mean he got injured in
- 11:25Speaker 1: Mike erfoliback with us it is not his fault, but
- 11:27Speaker 1: still interesting comments. Here's the forty nine ers going to
- 11:30Speaker 1: a off season full of quarterback questions, brock Purty coming
- 11:33Speaker 1: back from the injury, Kyle Shanahan intimate in a couple
- 11:36Speaker 1: of days ago that maybe it's a little longer than expected,
- 11:39Speaker 1: but still very much up in the air, and John
- 11:41Speaker 1: Lynch Mike saying, yeah, sure, we'll listen to trade calls
- 11:44Speaker 1: and anyone. Well, but what do you just say about
- 11:47Speaker 1: brock Purty and his recovery time frame? Right, even if
- 11:49Speaker 1: it's the best possible scenario, it's six months, it's right
- 11:53Speaker 1: up against week one before he is fully cleared. Now,
- 11:55Speaker 1: he's gonna be throwing at three months, that's the hope,
- 11:58Speaker 1: But you're not going to see him taking the full
- 12:01Speaker 1: compliment of reps. It doesn't seem in training camp or
- 12:03Speaker 1: the preseason. So they're still an opportunity here for Trey Lance.
- 12:06Speaker 1: So it's not a surprise that the team all the
- 12:09Speaker 1: way up to ownership is talking positively about Trey Lance
- 12:13Speaker 1: and saying the things that have happened to him are
- 12:15Speaker 1: sort of out of his control. Look I can't give
- 12:17Speaker 1: him a complete grade, and nobody can. His grade is incomplete.
- 12:21Speaker 1: And guess what his statement as to whether or not
- 12:25Speaker 1: he can be a starting quarterback in this league, whether
- 12:26Speaker 1: it's for the forty nine ers or anybody else, that's
- 12:29Speaker 1: incomplete as well. So there's a great opportunity in front
- 12:32Speaker 1: of Trey Lance here. Yes, as the depth chart stands
- 12:35Speaker 1: right now, and as the forty nine ers have laid
- 12:37Speaker 1: it out, brock Purty is a topic, but he's just
- 12:39Speaker 1: not going to be ready to be a full go
- 12:41Speaker 1: for this spring, which is the first opportunity, which is
- 12:44Speaker 1: OTA's into mini camp, into training camp, into the preseason.
- 12:48Speaker 1: It's all there for you, Trey Lance. You could still
- 12:49Speaker 1: make a statement about being this team's quarterback, or at
- 12:52Speaker 1: least somebody else's teams. He's still twenty two years old.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Some other teams that got you. He doesn't turn twenty
- 12:58Speaker 1: three until that. He's thrown one hundred and two career
- 13:01Speaker 1: NFL passes in the regular season, Mike meantime, So I'll
- 13:04Speaker 1: have some free agents out there getting jobs. How about
- 13:06Speaker 1: Marvin Jones going home? This is cool. Marvin Jones, the
- 13:10Speaker 1: veteran wide receiver going back to Detroit, where he spent
- 13:13Speaker 1: five seasons. I believe twenty sixteen to twenty twenty still
- 13:17Speaker 1: got some good football left on the other side of
- 13:19Speaker 1: thirty two. There's that deal right there, one year, three
- 13:21Speaker 1: million dollar contract. Now there's incentives that can take it
- 13:24Speaker 1: up to five million. It's a pretty good deal for
- 13:27Speaker 1: a veteran wide receiver at this stage of his career,
- 13:29Speaker 1: especially given what we've seen of the free agent market
- 13:32Speaker 1: right now and now you look at a Lions team period,
- 13:35Speaker 1: but a Lions receiver room looks pretty good to me, right,
- 13:39Speaker 1: especially if Jamison Williams can make that jump in his
- 13:42Speaker 1: second year, another year removed from his knee injury. I'm
- 13:45Speaker 1: in Ross Saint Brown. I mean, it's a good, good
- 13:49Speaker 1: group of wide receivers for Jared goff to throw two
- 13:52Speaker 1: up there in Detroit. Jared Goffway literally ran into yesterday.
- 13:56Speaker 1: I wasn't looking up on the sidewalk and actually ran
- 13:59Speaker 1: into That is terrible pocket awareness, terrible I'm gonna pocket away. Yeah,
- 14:05Speaker 1: thank you. Well, he looks for bigger guys that he
- 14:08Speaker 1: come at him in it, far bigger than me. Yep,
- 14:11Speaker 1: thank you. Mike coming up next, spiking a big, good
- 14:14Speaker 1: size On Endon Hooker as well, and he could be
- 14:16Speaker 1: climbing up draft boards or maybe he was going to
- 14:19Speaker 1: be a first round pick, regardless who cares about the
- 14:21Speaker 1: day injury. The Tennessee Pro Day in the spotlight coming
- 14:25Speaker 1: up next, as we talked about the first round quarterbacks,
- 14:34Speaker 1: we would be totally remiss if we did not mention
- 14:38Speaker 1: Hendon Hooker because he is showing up in more and
- 14:40Speaker 1: mock more and more mock drafts. On night number one,
- 14:43Speaker 1: he should when you turn on the tape, regardless of
- 14:47Speaker 1: the injury. Let's get to know the Tennessee quarterback. Hook
- 14:55Speaker 1: a round with the shot John John's for the hands.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Let's gets coming from family of quarterbacks. My father played
- 15:06Speaker 1: quarterback in North Carolina ANTI. They recently just took his
- 15:09Speaker 1: number out of retirements to give it to my little brother,
- 15:11Speaker 1: who was now the quarterback in North Carolina ANTI. I've
- 15:15Speaker 1: learned a lot from my father, who put the ball
- 15:17Speaker 1: in my hands at a young age, and all the
- 15:21Speaker 1: things that he taught me I talked to my brother
- 15:23Speaker 1: was perfect, Stay confident, and I do the things that
- 15:26Speaker 1: we've been taught to do with a whole lot going.
- 15:28Speaker 1: Man's there got it, Hendon Hooker Tennessee quarterback. I'm from Greensboro,
- 15:36Speaker 1: North Carolina, the Hoop State as we call it. Played
- 15:39Speaker 1: a lot of basketball growing up, really family oriented. At
- 15:43Speaker 1: any time we had a family vacation, it was usually
- 15:46Speaker 1: evolving around sports, So a huge sports background there. Roll
- 15:51Speaker 1: there was no Hutch drive to the say. Me and
- 15:55Speaker 1: my brother came up with a scripture athletic comic book,
- 15:58Speaker 1: the ABC Scripture for Athletes, and it has a lot
- 16:00Speaker 1: of cool attributes in it, a lot of cool pictures
- 16:03Speaker 1: that's attracting to the eye for kids to help them
- 16:06Speaker 1: build their faith as well as you know, kind of
- 16:08Speaker 1: be a little bit more sports oriented as world. An
- 16:14Speaker 1: NFL team should draft me because of my leadership, how
- 16:17Speaker 1: I connect with others in my football IQ. I'm extremely cerebral,
- 16:22Speaker 1: and my love for the game and my competitive nature
- 16:24Speaker 1: and how I want to dominate every time I step
- 16:26Speaker 1: on the field and play every play like it's my
- 16:28Speaker 1: leg I steps into the end zone draft night, I'll
- 16:33Speaker 1: try to be a tough guy, kind of hold back
- 16:35Speaker 1: to tears, but I don't see it happening. I think
- 16:36Speaker 1: everybody around me knows how hard I worked in all
- 16:39Speaker 1: the dedication that I put into my craft and who
- 16:42Speaker 1: I do it for my family and friends and my
- 16:46Speaker 1: community as well, because it's gonna be a lot of
- 16:48Speaker 1: joy and a lot of tears. I guess hey, handed
- 16:53Speaker 1: Hooker can play man. Look at Bucky Brooks list of
- 16:57Speaker 1: his top five quarterbacks, Handed Hooker is sitting there at
- 17:00Speaker 1: number three, behind c. J. Strada, Bryce Young, the guys
- 17:02Speaker 1: that everyone thinks are going one and two in some order,
- 17:05Speaker 1: and ahead of Anthony Richardson and Will Levis. Hendon Hooker
- 17:08Speaker 1: Tennessee pro Day a little bit later today. Granted he's
- 17:11Speaker 1: still coming back from a knee injury. I'm not going
- 17:14Speaker 1: to do that much November nineteen, was that knee injury? Yeah,
- 17:17Speaker 1: that's one concern. Also age a concern. He's twenty five
- 17:20Speaker 1: years old, obviously a transfer student, Baldi. When you put
- 17:23Speaker 1: on the table, what do you see, Well, you see
- 17:26Speaker 1: a guy mark that has a lot of experience. He
- 17:29Speaker 1: starts at Virginia Tech, wins the job there, transfers all right,
- 17:33Speaker 1: goes to Tennessee, which is a more been franchise in
- 17:37Speaker 1: Knoxville at this point with Josh Hypel doesn't start right
- 17:41Speaker 1: away in twenty twenty one, but takes over puts Tennessee
- 17:44Speaker 1: on the map Whip's Alabama this year with his five
- 17:47Speaker 1: touchdown performance. Watching his run right here getting away from
- 17:51Speaker 1: will Anders City Company, he had one legitimate target in
- 17:55Speaker 1: Jalen Hyatt to throw the ball to Outbeit the offense
- 17:58Speaker 1: is classic spread offense, a lot like what Baylor used
- 18:02Speaker 1: to run half field reads all that, but Mark He's
- 18:05Speaker 1: got a big frame, He makes good deliveries, he can
- 18:08Speaker 1: extend plays. He's a hard guy to get down to
- 18:11Speaker 1: the ground, and you watch him just throw the football.
- 18:14Speaker 1: He looks like a natural to me throwing the football.
- 18:16Speaker 1: I just think there's a lot to like. You have
- 18:18Speaker 1: to get over the ACL injury. You have to get
- 18:21Speaker 1: over the age you'll be twenty six years old, or
- 18:23Speaker 1: the season next year. But if you're just looking at
- 18:26Speaker 1: a guy that can go and throw the football and
- 18:28Speaker 1: knows what he's looking at, Hendon Hooker gets you excited.
- 18:32Speaker 1: I think, by one, I love Hennon Hooker. I mean
- 18:36Speaker 1: when he's my third guy and he's closer to me.
- 18:39Speaker 1: The CJ stroud is that CJ is to Bryce Young.
- 18:42Speaker 1: But that's a whole other conversation that we have and
- 18:44Speaker 1: the attributes you talked about there when you just watch
- 18:47Speaker 1: him play. He looks like he knows what he's doing.
- 18:50Speaker 1: He's got a quick mind, he's got quick eyes. He's
- 18:53Speaker 1: in command, he's a playmaker. He has poised in the pocket,
- 18:58Speaker 1: he's got vision. I just love the way he plays
- 19:01Speaker 1: the game and the way he elevated the program was
- 19:04Speaker 1: productive and one. And then you talk about the pedigree. Look,
- 19:07Speaker 1: that's something that his dad was a quarterback, his younger
- 19:10Speaker 1: brothers a quarterback. This guy's mature. I think the age
- 19:13Speaker 1: actually works in his favor. You just look at the
- 19:16Speaker 1: way he handled himself in that interview. Guys will gravitate
- 19:19Speaker 1: towards him. He has natural leadership ability. The kneed obviously
- 19:23Speaker 1: will have to be worked out. But I'm sure the
- 19:25Speaker 1: team's in the first round. Everybody has prided and pulled
- 19:28Speaker 1: it that had him in the facility. So I just
- 19:30Speaker 1: love what Henn and Hooker has to offer there. A
- 19:33Speaker 1: team is going to get a steal. This guy can
- 19:34Speaker 1: step in right away. The maturity's going to help him
- 19:37Speaker 1: to handle all those situations he's going to get. He's
- 19:40Speaker 1: the sleeper for me. You know, we're talking about him now,
- 19:42Speaker 1: but when we're highlighting Richardson and Levice yeah, they're younger,
- 19:46Speaker 1: but they might take two or three years. Actually, if
- 19:48Speaker 1: there ever anything, this guy's ready made and ready to go.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Andrew assuming that knee is ready by September and he's
- 19:54Speaker 1: getting there. Not expected really to do anything today at
- 19:57Speaker 1: that Pro day, but he's going to talk to teams.
- 19:58Speaker 1: And he was out of the field at the combine
- 20:00Speaker 1: while the other quarterbacks were throwing. He has been present
- 20:03Speaker 1: all along the way year in this process. Coming back
- 20:06Speaker 1: to Tennessee Pro Day today, also TCU Pro Day today.
- 20:12Speaker 1: A lot of first round talent on this field here.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I love it, including for Bigga pardon us. Quintin Johnston,
- 20:21Speaker 1: the wide receiver who last year as the Horned Frogs
- 20:24Speaker 1: blew up and went to the National Championship Game, also
- 20:26Speaker 1: did the same with over a thousand yards receiving. He
- 20:30Speaker 1: is a big body, Baldi, what do you see, Well,
- 20:33Speaker 1: he's your classic X receiver. I mean, you know he's
- 20:36Speaker 1: he's sixty three and change, he's two hundred and fifteen pounds,
- 20:38Speaker 1: he can fly, he wins jump balls. He's your go
- 20:41Speaker 1: route guy. I mean he's your classic big X. You know,
- 20:44Speaker 1: the guy opposite ty end the line of scrimmage. A J. Brown,
- 20:48Speaker 1: DK Metcalf, he's that guy. I remember Mark, when DK
- 20:52Speaker 1: Metcalf came out of Old miss they said, oh, he
- 20:54Speaker 1: can just run go routes, And that's what they're kind
- 20:57Speaker 1: of saying about Quentin Johnston right now. He's kind of
- 20:59Speaker 1: a you know, one trick pony, that kind of thing.
- 21:02Speaker 1: But I just think this guy has a chance to
- 21:04Speaker 1: develop because he's got explosive speed. He's a game breaker.
- 21:09Speaker 1: He can work the sidelines with all the back shoulder
- 21:12Speaker 1: stuff that you got to be able to do the
- 21:14Speaker 1: go routes where you're bisecting the numbers the sideline. I
- 21:17Speaker 1: just think he's a special talent. And while there's a
- 21:21Speaker 1: lot of receivers in this draft, I don't see a
- 21:23Speaker 1: lot of just big exes. Mark like Quinton Johnston in
- 21:27Speaker 1: this draft. You're right, that's his biggest selling point. Baldie,
- 21:30Speaker 1: all the other top guys, A Flower, Jordan Addison, High
- 21:34Speaker 1: there little guys. So when you're in a draft room,
- 21:36Speaker 1: you're talking like, here's the big guy we want, And
- 21:38Speaker 1: some teams aren't crazy about drafting smaller receivers. So Quinton
- 21:42Speaker 1: Johnson already has an advantage. When you start stacking these
- 21:45Speaker 1: guys and you mentioned his skill sets sort of a
- 21:48Speaker 1: you know, go route slants. They run a lot of
- 21:51Speaker 1: overs with him, So draft him and do that with him.
- 21:54Speaker 1: Don't draft him and try to have run curls and
- 21:56Speaker 1: comebacks and double move routes. That's the onus on where
- 22:00Speaker 1: you're coaching staff and your scouting staff have to be
- 22:03Speaker 1: on one accord and say this is what this guy
- 22:04Speaker 1: does really well and what we bring him in here.
- 22:07Speaker 1: Let's have him do that run those routes. The one
- 22:11Speaker 1: of the concerns I do have with him is the hand.
- 22:13Speaker 1: So today at his pro day, he'll have to show
- 22:16Speaker 1: if he catches the ball clean. That'll alleviate a lot
- 22:18Speaker 1: of concerns with him. He didn't run the forty. Looks
- 22:21Speaker 1: like he's fast, so on tape that you didn't run
- 22:22Speaker 1: the forty at the combine, so that'll be important as
- 22:24Speaker 1: well to determine some teams how fast he actually is.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And he didn't do the shuttles, so that'll also kind
- 22:31Speaker 1: of alleviate. Well, if he does great in the shuttles,
- 22:33Speaker 1: people will match that up and say, you know what,
- 22:35Speaker 1: he doesn't look like he's got great change of direction
- 22:37Speaker 1: on film, but he ran the Shuttle as well. So
- 22:39Speaker 1: big day here for Quentin Johnson. A lot of positive
- 22:42Speaker 1: attributes that teams will try to sell, can alleviate a
- 22:44Speaker 1: lot of concerns today at his pro day. Andrew big
- 22:46Speaker 1: day for the top big receiver in this draft obviously
- 22:49Speaker 1: in Waco. Not love it as I messed up my
- 22:51Speaker 1: Texas geography a little bit earlier. Don't forgive you. Yeah,
- 22:55Speaker 1: I hope So second in eight Dalton get it to
- 23:01Speaker 1: the factor. He's got room around twenty five fifty ten Shahed,
- 23:08Speaker 1: Welcome to the NFL. Play action for Dulton, looking to
- 23:13Speaker 1: throw dust. Throw deep, He's looking for Shahid. Shahid will
- 23:16Speaker 1: make the catch and he will score the touchdown beautifully
- 23:20Speaker 1: brought down by Shahid. He's like, this game is easy.
- 23:23Speaker 1: Touchdown Week one, touchdown Week two. Snap back to throwers,
- 23:26Speaker 1: Tason looks throws deep, frostamental is wide open, and that's
- 23:29Speaker 1: gonna be shah Rusheed just speed. The guy was electric
- 23:38Speaker 1: last year as a rookie, and the PF people are
- 23:41Speaker 1: naming Rashid Shahid as their breakout wide receiver potentially next
- 23:47Speaker 1: season as he enters year number two with the New
- 23:49Speaker 1: Orleans Saints as he's back here in southern California in
- 23:52Speaker 1: the off season Enlive with Us on set. Good to
- 23:55Speaker 1: see Rashid. Thank you for having me. What do you
- 23:56Speaker 1: think of that breakout player your second season? That's an honor.
- 23:59Speaker 1: It means a lot to get the eyes of you know,
- 24:03Speaker 1: Pro Football Focus and you know, the the honor to
- 24:06Speaker 1: have my name out there, it means means the world.
- 24:07Speaker 1: I mean, think of think of where you've come in
- 24:09Speaker 1: a year. A year ago. You're recovering from that ACL injury, right,
- 24:13Speaker 1: you're getting ready for the draft. You're getting ready obviously
- 24:14Speaker 1: you're trying to rehab that injury. You didn't get drafted, Rashids,
- 24:17Speaker 1: you didn't even sign with the Saints until May. And
- 24:21Speaker 1: here you are after scoring touchdowns last year and doing
- 24:24Speaker 1: all those great things as a rookie. Man. It's beautiful. Um,
- 24:27Speaker 1: the journey, it's meant a lot. I've had a lot
- 24:31Speaker 1: of people, good people in my circle to keep me
- 24:33Speaker 1: grounded throughout that process. M You know, it was a
- 24:35Speaker 1: tough time back back then, not knowing the uncertainty of
- 24:39Speaker 1: what team. You know, if a team is going to
- 24:41Speaker 1: give me a shot after the ACL injury, and you know,
- 24:44Speaker 1: the Saints did, and I kind of I'm thankful for
- 24:46Speaker 1: it and everything is has turned out very still blows
- 24:49Speaker 1: my mind that you didn't sign immediately after the draft. Here,
- 24:53Speaker 1: it didn't sign until May second. Rashid set the FCS record,
- 24:57Speaker 1: the all time record with seven career kickoff returns. Then
- 25:02Speaker 1: you get to the NFL. You don't play till week six.
- 25:05Speaker 1: That's okay. Let's put on the screen here. The very
- 25:07Speaker 1: first time Rashid touched the football, you did this. Take
- 25:12Speaker 1: me through it. So as you see a five sleep
- 25:15Speaker 1: to the right to the boundary, you know, I was
- 25:18Speaker 1: kind of, you know, hoping my receiver out there, I
- 25:20Speaker 1: can just get a block. He did his job perfectly,
- 25:22Speaker 1: and I got the ball. I didn't see anybody out there,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and I just you know, used my speed and made
- 25:26Speaker 1: a cut, a couple of cuts, and I was able
- 25:28Speaker 1: to get an end open field and you're gone, forty
- 25:30Speaker 1: four yard touchdown run. The second time you touched the
- 25:35Speaker 1: ball was next week, week seven, Rashid, look what you did, man,
- 25:41Speaker 1: so beautiful pass, beautiful ball. Can't complain And I was
- 25:46Speaker 1: able to capitalize on the play. Great play call. I
- 25:49Speaker 1: was early on the game and I was able to
- 25:51Speaker 1: take the top off. Get going to score board for
- 25:53Speaker 1: a fifty three yard touchdown. The very first two times
- 25:57Speaker 1: you got the ball in the NFL, you scored touchdowns. Rashid.
- 26:00Speaker 1: I'm not going to pull the tape up, but what
- 26:02Speaker 1: happened on the third time he touched the ball? Why
- 26:04Speaker 1: couldn't you score? Um? Disappointing. I know, I was just
- 26:07Speaker 1: so disappointing. I got a lot of got a lot
- 26:09Speaker 1: of craft for that. But it's okay, you really you
- 26:11Speaker 1: really did? Yeah, yeah, of course what they say, um right,
- 26:15Speaker 1: entry Scar literally well, I mean you automatically became a
- 26:19Speaker 1: piece of that offense, as did fellow rookie wide receiver
- 26:22Speaker 1: Chris Alave, a guy that you knew from growing up
- 26:25Speaker 1: a little bit, competed against obviously in San Diego. How
- 26:28Speaker 1: cool was that to be playing together on the scene,
- 26:30Speaker 1: man and men everything. It was awesome. Um, the impact
- 26:33Speaker 1: that he had, you know, as a rookie. Um, he's
- 26:36Speaker 1: obviously one of the best rookies in the league. I
- 26:38Speaker 1: felt like he should have been Rookie of the Year.
- 26:40Speaker 1: That's just my biased opinion. But the kid's a star.
- 26:42Speaker 1: It's going to be a star for a long time.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Works hard. Um, as you can see by the highlights,
- 26:46Speaker 1: he's he's a difference maker and he's going to be
- 26:48Speaker 1: for a long time. I said, growing up here in
- 26:49Speaker 1: southern California and San Diego, you obviously saw a lot
- 26:52Speaker 1: of the Raiders on TV. Now you're getting Derek Carr
- 26:55Speaker 1: as you're a quarterback. Big smile there, what do you yeah?
- 26:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so excited, great dude, been watching for a
- 27:00Speaker 1: long time. Um, he's gonna come in and he's gonna
- 27:03Speaker 1: compete and be a leader that the team needs. And
- 27:06Speaker 1: so excited to work with him and you know, get
- 27:08Speaker 1: get some chemistry down and you know he's going to
- 27:11Speaker 1: throw a lot of deep balls and planning to be
- 27:14Speaker 1: on the opposite side of that and you know catching
- 27:16Speaker 1: for him. And I'm super excited. Great guy, I'm going
- 27:19Speaker 1: to be a great teammate and I'm excited to work
- 27:21Speaker 1: with Have you guys made plans yet as he got
- 27:23Speaker 1: in the group together or figured out a day when
- 27:25Speaker 1: when he's going to throw with you guys, Not quite yet.
- 27:28Speaker 1: We will have a bunch of opportunities in the near future. Um,
- 27:31Speaker 1: you know Ota is coming up and everything, and I'm
- 27:33Speaker 1: sure after that we'll have plenty of time, and we'll
- 27:36Speaker 1: take a receiver trip and I'm sure we'll have a
- 27:39Speaker 1: lot of a lot of workouts to do. You have
- 27:41Speaker 1: any any advice here for the guys we're one month
- 27:43Speaker 1: from the draft who have no idea where their next
- 27:46Speaker 1: step on this for a whole journey is going to
- 27:48Speaker 1: take them. Well, would you tell those guys? I would
- 27:51Speaker 1: tell him to enjoy the process. Um, you never get
- 27:53Speaker 1: it again. Um, you know, take it day by day,
- 27:56Speaker 1: continue to find things to get better at. And um,
- 27:59Speaker 1: you know it's the same game that you've been playing
- 28:01Speaker 1: since since you're a little kid. And Um, like I said,
- 28:04Speaker 1: enjoyed the process. It's journey, but it's a fun journey.
- 28:07Speaker 1: And like I said, you want to get it again.
- 28:08Speaker 1: So take a day by day and just enjoy it.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Your process this offseason much different than the last season.
- 28:14Speaker 1: Coming back for the injury, but trying to stay healthy,
- 28:16Speaker 1: trying to get in the best shape. Tell me about
- 28:17Speaker 1: where you're working out, Yes, right here on the shirt
- 28:20Speaker 1: EBS Fitness saying clost to Mesa, California. I've been working
- 28:24Speaker 1: out with Crief Byrd and Marcus Steps. You guys had
- 28:27Speaker 1: on the show A couple of weeks ago, loving it,
- 28:31Speaker 1: having a great time out there. It's a beautiful place
- 28:32Speaker 1: to work out at. Can beat so Kyle, but Ebs
- 28:36Speaker 1: as well, where I've been training at and loving it
- 28:39Speaker 1: and trying to keep my body in shape, you know,
- 28:42Speaker 1: stay staying physical, physical, good shape. And it's been going
- 28:45Speaker 1: well so far. Very big year number two in New Orleans,
- 28:48Speaker 1: Weber States, Rashid Shihi, good luck man, thanks for coming,
- 28:53Speaker 1: Thank you so much, appreciate it and if we'll now
- 28:55Speaker 1: continues here coming up next back to Florida. More on
- 28:58Speaker 1: Anthony Richardson, how he looked, where he thinks he's going. Tom, Hello, Sarah,
- 29:05Speaker 1: how to go? Anthony Richardson threw about forty five passes
- 29:10Speaker 1: during his pro day throwing session on Thursday here in Gainesville.
- 29:14Speaker 1: He closed it out with a deep shot and then
- 29:16Speaker 1: a back handspring as he ran down the field with teammates,
- 29:19Speaker 1: once again putting that rare athletic ability on display. Several
- 29:24Speaker 1: head coaches were on hand, including the Panthers Frank Reich
- 29:27Speaker 1: and the Seahawks Pete Carroll, who both have been attending
- 29:30Speaker 1: all the quarterback pro days as they ponder what to
- 29:33Speaker 1: do with their top five picks. Also were general managers
- 29:36Speaker 1: on hand from the Titans and the Raiders. The Raiders
- 29:40Speaker 1: took Richardson out to dinner on Wednesday night. They're also
- 29:43Speaker 1: bringing him in for a visit next week. NFL Now
