- 0:03This is a bramble jam podcast this week on your gabbl gavel. If you
- 0:14pay all of the security deposit but only half the rent, does your landlord
- 0:18owe you anything back? And you own a pig? Judge Judy's getting in
- 0:22the sky. And if you're a chef and you bring Shetlands to a romantic
- 0:27to a romantic night, is that bad? Judge Steve Harvey telles it's real
- 0:30people in cases take justice. This is your gabble gabble, April fools Ninjas.
- 0:39There's a gavel, April fools ninjas. You thought there wasn't gonna be
- 0:43a gavel. There is one. It's just late music softer than normal?
- 0:47Or is that just where we are? No, it was loud at the
- 0:49beginning, and then we cut it down down a little bit. It was
- 0:52a different production. I think, No, it's the same. I always
- 0:55say it goes by atle bit so I can hear it. I wasn't wearing
- 1:02my headphones, so it's possible was definitely less than But I feel like I
- 1:04brought to read normal spot. We will not hear about it. I promise,
- 1:08hello, everybody, what's up? Man? Best April Fools joke you've
- 1:12ever had late gavel great, April, No, I got, I really
- 1:17did this. I've told you this story, right, I had to teach
- 1:19you. I don't know the details. Elementary school, Pee and I told
- 1:23a group of fourth grade kids that the principal had approved a swimming unit and
- 1:27I was gonna get to take them in. It was like it was starting
- 1:30to get hot in Columbia and the principal had approved a bus for us to
- 1:34go to the local pool and swim every day for a week in May.
- 1:41And they went. They were so excited, And I said, April,
- 1:47I was only twenty years old and they were nine. And one of the
- 1:51kids in there is been Christmas younger brother, and he's still What would have
- 1:55been great remembers it. What would have been great is if you did it
- 1:57the day before and he said bring your some trunks tomorrow, you make them
- 2:00all get dressed, and you say, all right, boys, it's time
- 2:02for dodgeball and you're swimmy man, I'm thinking about doing it pulling a prank
- 2:07to day to an ape assistant, tell me if this is mean spirited.
- 2:10The kids in that class next year they're supposed to take ap U rou and
- 2:15they've asked me if I would teach it. They likes I know right,
- 2:20it's it's crazy, and they're like, can you please teach it? Next
- 2:23year? You're gonna tell them that you're teaching it, And I think I'm
- 2:24going to do it? Yes or no? Well, isn't there still a
- 2:30chance that you will? There there is a very very very very small chance
- 2:35that I would, But I don't. I've never done it and have no
- 2:39real desire to do it, aside from the fact that it's a really good
- 2:42group of kids. But I'm thinking about doing it. Yeah, do it?
- 2:45You think so? Fine, go for it. They're they're resilient.
- 2:49All right, great talk. I love it. I have Judge Steve Harvey
- 2:52today. Who do you have? I got Judge Judy? Why do you
- 2:55keep going back to her? You hate Judge? Ten months and you hate
- 2:59it? Then I feel like it's like we got to go back to the
- 3:00og. Did you go to IMDWTV? No? Okay, no, no,
- 3:05I didn't do that. She's wearing a pink robe now. So this
- 3:07one has a little bit of intrigue towards the end of it, and I
- 3:12still don't understand the math of it. But the end of it really should
- 3:15have been the whole thing. Okay, but you know Steve Harvey's is going
- 3:20to be better. Chitling's are involved. Yeah all you want to lead us
- 3:23off, you want to go second and back? Clean up? Let me
- 3:28go first, Okay, do it? So, I want to introduce you
- 3:31to Ken Galette. He's suing Michelle Sanders for thirteen hundred dollars for a ruined
- 3:38romantic evening. Michelle Sanders is countersuing for six hundred dollars for the meal and
- 3:44travel cost. Are you ready? I'm ready? Ken says that he is.
- 3:49Oh, you know, Judge Steve Harvey. He gives a quick thirty
- 3:51second thirty second broaddowns. So Ken says that he's suing her for thirte hundred
- 3:55dollars. He was dating a girl, new relationship, wanted to show her
- 4:00a good time, so he paid Michelle to be a chef that night.
- 4:03He says, I wanted a romantic evening and she failed. Michelle says,
- 4:09thirteen hundred dollars. Forget it. You didn't pay me the full amount.
- 4:13You made me travel from Arkansas to Atlanta, and I had to leave equipment
- 4:16behind. It's on you Wow, are you ready? I'm ready? So
- 4:20now it's so useless. So now to the case. So Ken is originally
- 4:26from Little Rock, which is in Arkansas. Up great keeping up and she
- 4:31he knew Michelle from you know, his time there. He knows that she's
- 4:36a great cook. She has an Instagram which she posts alive for great you
- 4:42know, looking plates and whatnot. And he says that no one does soul
- 4:46food like her. So if I'm gonna do something, I'm gonna bring bring
- 4:49her into it. So I call her up, I say I need to
- 4:51caterer for this event. He wants to do soul food for a sulmate is
- 4:57what he says. Oh, I want to do soalt food for a sol
- 5:00mate. It is at this point that Steve Harvey loves this. He says
- 5:03that he would put this in chapter ten of the Player's Manual, Player's Manual.
- 5:09The crowd loves that, they cheer. I don't really get it.
- 5:12Why is it chapter ten? Who knows? But Steve wants to let everybody
- 5:15know that that if he's writing a player's manual, that's soule food for his
- 5:19soul mads. In chapter ten, Ah, So he says that he comes
- 5:23up with him. They come up with a menu together. Steve asked for
- 5:26the menu, the bailiff goes to get it, and it's at this point
- 5:30in time that Steve decides to joke about how the bailiff is shot seven people.
- 5:33The crowd cheers, Yeah, I don't classic, that's a classic Harvey
- 5:36move. The crowd is wild. They're wild at Steve Harvey Show. They're
- 5:41down to cloud, he says the crowd the bailiff, who's in a police
- 5:46uniform, has shot seven people, and they go nuts. They're loving it.
- 5:51But Michelle says, my hands are up here. It's a whole bit.
- 5:54Wow. Yeah, it's it's tough. I don't know, guys,
- 5:57I don't know. It's Steve Harvey though. So we see the menu.
- 6:00She's charging him five hundred and one dollars seventy three cents for the food.
- 6:06There's an appetizer, there's a little something else. There's an entree, there's
- 6:10a dessert, there's a soup. It's a whole thing five and one just
- 6:13for the food. That's exactly right. The soup, you know, it's
- 6:15all like fancy words, and you know, Steve Harvey's reading it and he
- 6:18gets to the soup and he's like, this is just chicken soup. I
- 6:21don't care how many fancy words you do. It's just chicken slass. Everybody's
- 6:26classic. So Ken says that he rents a place for this. It's gonna
- 6:30be a romantic weekend. It's three nights, it's seven hundred dollars. It's
- 6:33July second to the fourth. He says he wanted to create his own fireworks.
- 6:40Steve says, when was the dinner supposed to take place? And he
- 6:42says it was gonna take place on the first night. Steve says, I
- 6:45know what you're doing here. If the dinner goes well, you're gonna be
- 6:47making your own dinner the rest of the week, and if you know what
- 6:49I mean, And Ken pops his collar and says, you know what it
- 6:54is. He actually pops his collar, so he like does this thing like
- 6:57with his collar. It's like a quick pops situation. He says, you
- 7:00know what it was? So I love that crowd, loves that they're live.
- 7:04It's just one thing after another. So he says that he gets to
- 7:08the room, he gets it looking good and smelling good. He's playing tank,
- 7:13which I don't know what tank is either. But Steve is loving this.
- 7:17He literally has his tongue out of his mouth with a big smell on
- 7:21his face. He's loving checks this and he he says that she's supposed to
- 7:27show up at seven. She says, I showed up at eight forty five.
- 7:31He says, you must have set your clock back. You showed up
- 7:34at ten pm. The crowd the meal, No to with the meal?
- 7:40Okay, got it. The crowd audibly gasps at the ten pm. They
- 7:44couldn't believe it. She says, I show up and I start to get
- 7:49the food out, and he starts like diving into the appetizers like I'm not
- 7:54even getting it, Like I can't even get starving. He's starving, and
- 7:57he's like, well, at this point, sees Sabbath tag my whole date.
- 8:01Steve says, why would you say sabotaged your date? He says she's
- 8:05jealous Steve. Steve says, I can't this is a humble brag, I
- 8:11guess. He says, I can't count the number of caterers. I've had
- 8:16hundreds upon hundreds, but never have I ever had the term sabotage or jealous
- 8:22come up when it comes to a caterer, checks out, yeah, hundreds
- 8:26of hundred. He's had more than that, oh for sure. So why
- 8:30why do you think that she's out the sabotage this? And he says,
- 8:33well, she's jealous because I broke up with her. He's using his ex
- 8:39girlfriend as a caterer. The crowd freaks out. They love this. Steve
- 8:43starts to bang his tiny little gable. Which did he see Oliver when he
- 8:50brought did he played a clip of Steve Harvey this a couple of weeks ago.
- 8:52He brings his own little gavel. It's a tiny gal so, uh,
- 8:58Steve says, did you day and she says we did happen to go
- 9:01on a couple of dates? Yes, And he says no, we dated
- 9:05on and off for five years. She says no, it was a few
- 9:09months. We were dating for a few months and Steve says, what is
- 9:13dating? And she says, you know, we would go to chain restaurants
- 9:16and we'd go back to his place and have him one in a good night
- 9:18And she says, oh, and you'd wake up there the next day and
- 9:22she says no, there was none of that. And Steve says, I
- 9:24guess he was busy the whole time. Huh. I don't know chain restaurants.
- 9:31Why chain restaurants? Chain restaurants, you know. I think she's trying
- 9:33to say it wasn't like super romantic. Okay, yeah, just Applebee's.
- 9:39This is like a difference between Applebee's and bringing in a caterer, you know
- 9:41what I mean. So Steve says, why can would you hire your ex
- 9:50to come from Arkansas to Atlanta to cater an event for a new girl?
- 9:54So dumb? Uh? You know, she's driving that whole time thinking that
- 9:58he never got me in Airbnb, he never hired me a chef. She's
- 10:01mad that whole time. Of all the people in the world, Ken,
- 10:05why would you think this is a good idea? And Ken says, I
- 10:07just have so much respect for her. I know her family, I'm good
- 10:11friends with her brother. I got love for her, you know. And
- 10:16she says, he's been a good friend to me too. I got no
- 10:18reason to sabotage this night. I got love for him too. So Steve
- 10:22says, what did she actually do to sabotage the evening? And he says,
- 10:28I expected the food to look like what you see on the screen,
- 10:31and we're seeing pictures from her Instagram. They're very nice pictures of the food.
- 10:35But what I got was this. And he pulls out from underneath a
- 10:39tray of food that he says is comparable to the food that she brought.
- 10:46He didn't take an actual picture. No, no, no, okay,
- 10:48it is a tray full of food. And Steve comes down and he's like,
- 10:54wait, shitlands weren't on the menu. And she says, yes,
- 10:58they were the main entree. We see the menu and the main entree is
- 11:05uh and uel glaze and a dewey in a bourbon reduction. What's in dewey
- 11:11and dewey sausage? Okay, okay. Steve says, if you dip some
- 11:15chitlands in a bourbon glaze, you cannot call it that you made chitlands.
- 11:20Why would you make him chitlands? And he and she says, he asks
- 11:26for southern soul cuisine. Yeah, you know what chitlands are. We're getting
- 11:30to it. Steve says, Uh, it's a romantic night. You can't
- 11:33be smelling chitlands. Steve says, for all the white folk out that they
- 11:39don't know what chitlands are. Chitlands are hog intestines fried typically though, so
- 11:46Steve says, I now finally understand why there is an argument why you're upset.
- 11:50kN says that I asked her why she brought chitlands, and he says
- 11:56that she says, you played meat cheap, so I played uchi Mmmm,
- 12:01and Steve says, I'm ready to make my verdict. Ummm. Knowing this
- 12:07is Steve and knowing it's not going to be a straightforward go go. You
- 12:11shouldn't hire your ex girlfriend. She shouldn't have shown up late, but she
- 12:15had the right to. I think in this case, he's gonna rule that,
- 12:18like he has to cook her a meal and it has to be worth
- 12:26five hundred dollars. What do you think the at Like, if you were
- 12:30making the vertage, what would you do? I probably would give neither side
- 12:33anything. Okay, that's what I would do because you shouldn't have hired her.
- 12:37But also she didn't follow through. But there was no written contract or
- 12:41play like, there's no evidence, so I give no one nothing. I
- 12:43would give no one anything. Steve's with you, really, yeah, Steve
- 12:46says, I'm not giving either one of you anything. You both went into
- 12:50this for the wrong reason, ken you didn't hire her to help her catering
- 12:54business. You wanted to show her what she's missing. Michelle, you wanted
- 12:58to get him back for breaking up with you. You all need to take
- 13:01a look at your relationship and bury the hatch because Ken, you won't find
- 13:05a finer woman than Michelle. Michelle, you won't find a kinder man than
- 13:09Ken. I don't know what you're looking for, but I have a feeling
- 13:15it's in this room. You can't stand to see each other happy with anyone
- 13:20else. Steve bangs his gavel. He says, that's my verdict because that's
- 13:24the way I see it. That's the way I see it. He always
- 13:26says, that's I don't know why that's his tagline at the end, but
- 13:28that's the way he sees it. If they shop through to get to that,
- 13:31because that's not great. No, that's my verdict, because that's the
- 13:33way I see it. Yeah, And he then gets up and he walks
- 13:37off stage, and he pauses. So at this point in time, a
- 13:41spotlight comes from in front of him, but it looks you know what I'm
- 13:46saying, it's a bat back likes him. And these doors close slowly close
- 13:50on cinematic, and we then see like an after interview and Ken's just like,
- 13:54you know, she's great, blah blah blah. And Michelle says,
- 13:58he's a nice guy and I'm down to see where this goes. But he's
- 14:03got to come to Arkansas. I'm not going to Atlanta. Yeah, and
- 14:05that's where we leave the Oel Breaker. Wow. Michelle not interested it.
- 14:09She's not interested in leaving Little Rock, Arkansas would for I don't know.
- 14:16Both both sound kind of miserable. So there you go, we did it.
- 14:20Lands you ready to Judy. Here's the thing. Man he was with
- 14:22Steve was was with Michelle. It felt like until the chitlans came out and
- 14:28he said this is unacceptable. Wow, interesting soul food. You could make
- 14:33that work. I disagree with Steve. There you can't before a romantic evening.
- 14:37You're ready to Judy? Juliet All right, Julie Bellick is suing Jung
- 14:41Lee for the return of her security deposit. Now, which is she This
- 14:48is weird she wants it ends up being three thousand and seventy dollars, but
- 14:56security deposit. I'll we'll break it down. Okay, I'm sorry. These
- 14:58are clearly like, it's a pretty big apartment and it's in a big city.
- 15:01I think, okay, great. So she shared the apartment, she
- 15:05says, with a friend of hers. Oh, And Judy says, not
- 15:09your boyfriend. And she goes, he was my boyfriend at the time.
- 15:13And she goes, oh, so you shared it with your boyfriend And when
- 15:16did you guys move in? Why does that matter? Well, Judy's getting
- 15:20to it, Judy. The problem with Judge Judy is she's read it and
- 15:22already kind of made her decision and she just wants to interrogate both of them.
- 15:26That's her problem. And so she has a feeling it's the boyfriend and
- 15:31wants to hear this, and so she asked all these leading questions. So
- 15:33she goes, Julie says, we both signed the lease, we broke up
- 15:37a few months in we moved in, but we still stay in the apartment
- 15:41together and remained amicable through the term of the least. Wow. And she
- 15:46said how much did he pay the lease? And she said, well,
- 15:48he paid roughly fifteen hundred dollars a month. And Judy says, don't give
- 15:52me roughly tell me what he paid and she says it varied at times,
- 15:56and Judy's done with her, and Judy turns to jump and goes, how
- 16:00much did they pay? What were their checks for? And Junk says,
- 16:03they didn't send a check. They sent me money separately for Venmo through Venmo.
- 16:10And Judy doesn't want to hear about the Venmo. She's from one hundred
- 16:11thousand years ago, and she's like, how much was it? And he
- 16:15said their rent every month was twenty six fifty and Julie is like, no,
- 16:21it wasn't. It was twenty six ninety five, That's what it was.
- 16:23It was twenty six ninety five, and Jung is like, you're right,
- 16:26another forty five, yeah, twenty six whatever. So so, but
- 16:32they would send money sepeparately and it would be always equal two thousand, six
- 16:36hundred ninety five dollars a month, so they were always paying their rent every
- 16:38month, but it would never be this like some months his would be lessons.
- 16:41Maybe they were like doing something with the bill, with the power bill
- 16:45and stuff. So basically, Judy says, so he was paying his portion,
- 16:51which would be thirteen hundred and twenty five dollars, and then they were
- 16:53like, no, thirteen hundred and whatever he's paying his money every month,
- 16:57and they said yes. And then Jung says, the last month he doesn't
- 17:02pay his half. Oh, he doesn't pay his half. She pays her
- 17:04half and that's it. So last month he doesn't pay us half. So
- 17:10Jung says, the security deposit is twenty four to ninety five. It is
- 17:14two thousand, four ninety five dollars. There's a pet deposit for five hundred
- 17:17dollars. Judy says, how much of that deposit did you return? He
- 17:19says, I didn't return any of it. She says for a missed half
- 17:23rent. She says, did you deduct the rent? Do you receive from
- 17:27the other tenants? And he says no, because the security deposit was paid
- 17:32separately, and I didn't think they deserved to get their security deposit back.
- 17:36Judy said, who paid for the deposit. Julie says, I wrote the
- 17:38check for the whole deposit. The entire deposit is in my name, even
- 17:41though the apartments in both names. Entire deposits in my name, not not
- 17:48my boyfriend. We have proof of this, we do. We have all
- 17:49the paperwork. Judy says, why didn't you pay her deposit back? Jung
- 17:55says, well, she painted the common area of the house of the apartment
- 17:59blew and I had to paint it back white. And Judy says, did
- 18:03you put what's the common area? And Julie says the living room. Judy's
- 18:07like, did you paint the living room? And Julie said yeah. She
- 18:11said did you have permission to do that? She said I had verbal permission
- 18:14during the walkthrough. Well, this gets a full rant from eight hundred year
- 18:18old Judy about verbal permission and that doesn't mean anything. We have a written
- 18:22contract. It's not in the contract. I'm sorry, can't help you.
- 18:26Judy says, show me the receipt for the painted room. Yeah. Either
- 18:27way, though, shouldn't it just be minus the paint? Yeah, in
- 18:30the labor so Jung says, only the living room and Judy says yes.
- 18:34He says, I don't have a receipt for just the living room because I
- 18:38repainted the entire apartment. Why did you do that? And he said there
- 18:42were tenants moving in. I had him coming in. Anyway, just the
- 18:45whole apartment needed to be white. There was some other stuff in the apartment,
- 18:48but I just painted the whole apartment. That's all. He says,
- 18:52and Judy said, that's nice of you to do that, but she's not
- 18:56paying you for the whole apartment. She's a paying you for the uh,
- 19:00you know, for the paint for the living room. How much did you
- 19:03charge her for painting the union And he says twelve hundred dollars and he's like,
- 19:08She's like, okay, well you can't do that judgment for the She's
- 19:11about to just say judgment for the planeff and before she can get for the
- 19:15plane iff out of her mouth. Julie pipes up and says, your on
- 19:19her. We're that's not all of it. And she's like, don't interrupt
- 19:26me. There's a whole thing. Don't interrupt me. I'm giving you twelve
- 19:27hundred dollars. She goes, you're on her. I want twenty four to
- 19:30ninety five, and I have two other deposits. He's not paying me.
- 19:33She's like, okay, well, don't interrupt me. But what do you
- 19:36mean? What do you mean don't interrupt me? Yeah, if you haven't
- 19:40heard the whole case, see, what do you expect something to do?
- 19:44Judy? It's ridiculous. Don't interrupt me. But okay, here we go.
- 19:47So Judy's like, uh, okay, what else she needs. She
- 19:51goes, well, there's a seventy five dollars remote deposit. It's remote to
- 19:53remote open the gate. I paid the seventy five dollars. I returned the
- 19:56remote. He didn't pay me that back either. She looks did you give
- 20:00the seventy five dollars? Did she return the remote? Yes? Did you
- 20:03give the seventy five dollars? No? Why didn't you give it back?
- 20:06And then he says, well, she put up a gate in front of
- 20:11the gate. He has a picture of it, in front of this giant
- 20:15white gate. She put up a little like two foot tall black fence and
- 20:23she felt it for just to put it up in front of it. And
- 20:29Judy said, well, why did she do that? And Jung says it
- 20:32was to keep her pig from getting out. She has a pig. She's
- 20:37a pig. We find this out with two minutes left in the case.
- 20:41Wow, she's a pig. Jesuys, how big is your pig? Julie
- 20:44says, it's take forty five to fifty pound. She's a forty five to
- 20:47fifty pound pig living in the apartment. Jung says, I thought it was
- 20:52a guinea pig when they moved in, and Julie says, why would you
- 20:56charge me a pet deposit for a guinea pig? You knew it was a
- 21:00full pick. So Judy's like, so wait, even what was that have
- 21:02to do with the gate? He says, I didn't return the remote deposit
- 21:04because her gate was in front and her gate broke and it caused my gate
- 21:07to break. Judy says, is the remote deposit about the gate working or
- 21:12is it for a remote control? He says, it's for remote control.
- 21:15She goes, He goes, okay, we're tacking that on. We're tacking
- 21:18that on. Then she's like, she talks about the pet deposit, and
- 21:22she asked him about the pig. Ask her a couple questions about that,
- 21:25and then she's ready to rule. Okay, Julie wants to three thousand,
- 21:33seven hundred dollars set three thousand and seventy dollars. Jung wants to give nothing.
- 21:37She's ready to rule down. So the three thousand, what is it,
- 21:41three thousand and seventy seventy dollars is for twenty four to ninety five for
- 21:45the security deposit last month, half of the rent was not paid, but
- 21:51she whole deposits her name, five hundred pet deposits, twenty nine ninety five,
- 21:57seventy five dollars remote. I mean, it sounds like she's gonna give
- 22:02her all of it, but I mean maybe if she won't because she interrupted
- 22:04her like just out of spite. No, I'm not gonna give you everything,
- 22:08but it sounds like at least she's getting her deposit and the seventy five
- 22:11dollars back. So here's what she says. You're very close. She says,
- 22:17Hey, the last half, the half of the rent she didn't pay
- 22:18because of COVID renters have twelve months to pay that. You have to go
- 22:22chase him down for that money. That's not her problem. She wrote the
- 22:26whole check. She gets the whole check back, the pet deposit. You
- 22:29weren't up front about having a pig. Your pet did some damage. You're
- 22:30not getting that pet deposit back. It's gone. I'm gonna award you the
- 22:34pet, she says. I'm gonna award you the security deposit plus the remote
- 22:38deposit, which is twenty six twenty and for the life of me, twenty
- 22:44four ninety five plus seventy five equals twenty five to seventy, not twenty six
- 22:48twenty. But she continues to say twenty six twenty, and she awards her
- 22:52twenty six twenty. That's what she awards because Judy's crazy. Never again,
- 22:56don't let me do it again, brand, don't do it again. Don't
- 22:59do it again. Just eye. Judy is my homegirl. Yeah, she's
- 23:03the most popular. She's just not fun anymore. She's not fun. That's
- 23:08action. We gabled, and that's what's important. We did get today.
- 23:11We did gabble at the end of the day, and that's all that matters.
- 23:15Thank you guys, so much, so much fun doing this. We'll
- 23:18be back next week with a bay side and until then, Rise Yo.
