Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schreeger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's off, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Schreger. I'm Peter Schreger, your host.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It is a hot and steamy Thursday. As we record this.
- 0:33Speaker 1: It is August first, and I have no idea where
- 0:36Speaker 1: I am. I have no idea what time it is.
- 0:40Speaker 1: I am freaking exhausted, and I want to give you
- 0:42Speaker 1: a recap of what's been going down the last few weeks,
- 0:46Speaker 1: which includes football, includes a lot of travel, it includes
- 0:50Speaker 1: getting up to speed with the NFL. I welcome in
- 0:53Speaker 1: my beautiful producer slash co host on this sucker, mister
- 0:57Speaker 1: Aaron Wong Kaufman, who is beaming in from what looks
- 1:00Speaker 1: to be a cabin in the woods Ted Kazinski style.
- 1:02Speaker 1: What's going on, dude.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I don't know about take Azinsky style, but yes, I
- 1:05Speaker 2: am with you from the woods of Maine. I'm in
- 1:08Speaker 2: a barn.
- 1:09Speaker 1: Barn it's badass. Take your time in Maine. I'm hitting
- 1:12Speaker 1: the ground running. I was away for quite a bit.
- 1:16Speaker 1: We didn't do two weeks of these podcasts, and we
- 1:18Speaker 1: were like, let's just hold off until we're back on
- 1:22Speaker 1: Good Morning Football, and then we'll get going. Let me
- 1:24Speaker 1: explain what my last twenty four hours had been, and
- 1:28Speaker 1: then we're gonna go backwards and I'll give you some nuggets,
- 1:30Speaker 1: some stories, and we can talk a little NFL. But
- 1:32Speaker 1: Aaron I was up at two forty five in the
- 1:36Speaker 1: morning in a hotel room in Manhattan Beach yesterday. Manhattan Beach,
- 1:42Speaker 1: not being the beaches of Manhattan, New York, Manhattan Beach, California.
- 1:46Speaker 1: Woke up at two forty five in the morning, which
- 1:48Speaker 1: is the alarm clock time for what I'll be getting
- 1:51Speaker 1: up when I do Good Morning Football out in LA.
- 1:54Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:54Speaker 1: If you've not read the news or seen Good Morning
- 1:57Speaker 1: Football is back and I am in a bi coastal
- 2:01Speaker 1: slash hybrid New York LA schedule. I did not I
- 2:06Speaker 1: want to move my family out there. I still wanted
- 2:08Speaker 1: to do the show, so we came to an agreement
- 2:10Speaker 1: where many episodes I'll be doing from LA, living in
- 2:14Speaker 1: a hotel, waking up at two forty five in the morning,
- 2:17Speaker 1: doing four hours of television that starts at five am Pacific,
- 2:22Speaker 1: but also eight am Eastern Time, and doing that from
- 2:25Speaker 1: the awesome LA Sofi Stadium NFL Network Studios, which is
- 2:32Speaker 1: maybe the coolest studio I've ever been in, but is
- 2:34Speaker 1: also on the West Coast when it's dark out, so
- 2:37Speaker 1: I've got to get used to that body clock. Then
- 2:40Speaker 1: I got done with the show, race to the airport,
- 2:44Speaker 1: flew home, got in and around ten ten point fifteen Eastern,
- 2:49Speaker 1: and then was up at five point thirty in the
- 2:51Speaker 1: morning New York time to prepare for a show, which
- 2:54Speaker 1: we are doing from a studio in downtown Manhattan. I
- 2:58Speaker 1: would say more Spring Street, so I guess like the village,
- 3:02Speaker 1: but all the way on the west side, which is
- 3:04Speaker 1: if you watched Thursday's Good Morning Football, you saw I
- 3:08Speaker 1: was in a box. That's how I'm gonna be doing
- 3:10Speaker 1: the episodes from New York. So getting used to the schedule.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But as we were doing this podcast, which is midday Thursday,
- 3:17Speaker 1: before the Hall of Fame game, before we get what's
- 3:21Speaker 1: going on in the Olympics on Thursday, with Simone Biles
- 3:24Speaker 1: about to take the beam this this is a man
- 3:28Speaker 1: who is on fumes and it is August first, and
- 3:31Speaker 1: we're gonna have to figure out the balance of traveling, sleeping,
- 3:36Speaker 1: resting because Aaron I do the weekly LA and it's
- 3:40Speaker 1: like I stay on East Coast time. But I'm telling you, dude,
- 3:43Speaker 1: it was so nice out there. The weather was insane
- 3:46Speaker 1: that like at six o'clock on the West Coast, which
- 3:49Speaker 1: would be nine o'clock in the East coaches, what a
- 3:52Speaker 1: prudent Peter Schugger should be getting in bed under the covers,
- 3:54Speaker 1: like it wasn't happening. I wanted to be outside. I
- 3:57Speaker 1: was staying in Manhattan Beach. I wanted to see the water,
- 4:00Speaker 1: and like I didn't go to bed until you know,
- 4:03Speaker 1: ten o'clock Pacific, which is like one o'clock am. So
- 4:05Speaker 1: I've got to get that down. But Aaron, as I
- 4:09Speaker 1: tell you this right now, we're on day four of
- 4:11Speaker 1: Good Morning Football from the cross country flights. I'm having
- 4:14Speaker 1: a blast. The show has been awesome. I'm gonna have
- 4:16Speaker 1: to get adjusted on these travel days because as I'm
- 4:19Speaker 1: spitting fire right now, I feel like I have been
- 4:23Speaker 1: talking for four days straight and there's been very little
- 4:25Speaker 1: sleeping going on. Have you done cross country cross international travel? Like,
- 4:30Speaker 1: because I might need a little guidance, And Taylor Swift
- 4:32Speaker 1: says like power through the jet lag, like I'm figuring
- 4:35Speaker 1: it out, dude, But like, I've got to get a
- 4:37Speaker 1: hold of this thing.
- 4:38Speaker 2: I mean, I think the more you do it, you know,
- 4:41Speaker 2: then your your evenings will start to feel more like
- 4:44Speaker 2: a regular evening hopefully, and at some point. You know.
- 4:48Speaker 2: The great thing about California, I think, is there not
- 4:50Speaker 2: much going on, So you know, after a couple of weeks,
- 4:53Speaker 2: you'll have nothing to do out there, You'll go to
- 4:55Speaker 2: bed early. It'll be easy.
- 4:57Speaker 1: We go back a couple of weeks. Can I kick
- 4:59Speaker 1: you through some of my travel journeys and we only
- 5:01Speaker 1: do this. This is not self centered. I do this
- 5:03Speaker 1: because my Travis Kelcey Kansas City Weekend cast got more
- 5:07Speaker 1: listens than anything that we did in interviewing Coordinator X
- 5:11Speaker 1: or Special Teams Coach B over the last few weeks.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Although those are some of my favorites. But let's start
- 5:18Speaker 1: July seventeenth and eighteenth, So let's go back two weeks.
- 5:23Speaker 1: I get on a plane on a Wednesday, and I
- 5:27Speaker 1: travel out to La to the glorious Terranea Resort which
- 5:31Speaker 1: is in Palace ver Days, California, and it's on the
- 5:34Speaker 1: cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean and it's one of my
- 5:37Speaker 1: favorite hotels and I get the honor to be there
- 5:40Speaker 1: for two days every year. And that's with Fox Sports,
- 5:44Speaker 1: my weekend employers and my longtime employers who I've written
- 5:47Speaker 1: for Fox Sports dot com and appeared on Fox Sports
- 5:50Speaker 1: one since two thousand and seven, So you go back
- 5:53Speaker 1: all those years. I am now entering I think year
- 5:56Speaker 1: seventeen with Fox and every year they invite anybody on
- 6:00Speaker 1: air who works on their NFL coverage to this terran
- 6:03Speaker 1: Air resort, which is beautiful and it's an off site
- 6:06Speaker 1: get away, and we're told no social media, which I respect,
- 6:10Speaker 1: no selpies, and nothing recorded from what goes on inside
- 6:14Speaker 1: the room. But now that we're a couple of weeks removed,
- 6:17Speaker 1: I think I can give the highlights of that weekend
- 6:19Speaker 1: and I can share that I arrived and you get
- 6:23Speaker 1: settled in your hotel room, and I immediately I'm like,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I'm going to walk these grounds a little bit, and
- 6:27Speaker 1: I'm like, you know what, I'm on East Coast time.
- 6:29Speaker 1: I've been working out a little bit. I'm going to
- 6:30Speaker 1: go to the gym. I go to the gym and
- 6:32Speaker 1: the first person I see is Michael Strahan in a
- 6:34Speaker 1: full lather, and I pulled stray aside, and it's like
- 6:37Speaker 1: the last thing he wants to do is with me.
- 6:39Speaker 1: But guess what you see, Schrager and Straighthan. You're seeing
- 6:42Speaker 1: two morning show hosts. We're going to talk about life,
- 6:44Speaker 1: but we're also going to talk about the incredible recovery
- 6:47Speaker 1: that is his daughter is making from what was a
- 6:50Speaker 1: very grave diagnosis earlier in the year. And I just
- 6:53Speaker 1: gave stray a hugg the first time I seen him
- 6:55Speaker 1: since the news came out that she's in recovery mode
- 6:58Speaker 1: right now. So it was cool to see him and
- 7:00Speaker 1: we talked a little bit, and I love Strahan, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: I think this is a key thing for any of
- 7:06Speaker 1: us in my side of the camera or any of
- 7:08Speaker 1: us behind the cameras. Like, I don't think Strayhan is
- 7:11Speaker 1: a single person in this world who has a negative
- 7:13Speaker 1: thing to say about him, and that might be the
- 7:15Speaker 1: goal for everybody. And I can tell you this, the
- 7:17Speaker 1: reason that Strahan is such a stud is, Yes, he's
- 7:20Speaker 1: great on air, and he's awesome on Good Morning America,
- 7:22Speaker 1: and he's fantastic on the Fox Sundays, But like, Strahan's
- 7:25Speaker 1: also great to everybody in the hair and makeup department.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Straight Han's also great to everybody that he deals with
- 7:32Speaker 1: who like books the travel straight Han's also great to
- 7:35Speaker 1: everyone at the top of the ORG chart to the
- 7:37Speaker 1: bottom of the ORG chart, and I think that's just
- 7:38Speaker 1: how he is. And I had a really cool opportunity
- 7:41Speaker 1: to be with Strahan in June. The Giants were celebrating
- 7:45Speaker 1: celebrating their one hundredth years a franchise, and I was
- 7:48Speaker 1: really honored and blessed to be asked to be a
- 7:51Speaker 1: part of the group that was going to mc the event.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So it was Bob Poppa, who's the voice of the Giants,
- 7:56Speaker 1: it was Sean O'Hara, who does a lot of the
- 7:58Speaker 1: in house stuff for the Giants and is a Giants legend,
- 8:00Speaker 1: and it was me and a lot of that was
- 8:03Speaker 1: on stage, and I got to interview day Bowl and
- 8:05Speaker 1: Joe Shane, which is it's in my wheelhouse. And I
- 8:07Speaker 1: got to speak to Pete Gogolak, who is the eighty
- 8:11Speaker 1: year old former kicker of the Giants. He spent nine
- 8:14Speaker 1: years at New York in the sixties and seventies. And
- 8:17Speaker 1: then I got a lot of time on set on
- 8:19Speaker 1: the stage there at the massive Square Garden Theater, interviewing
- 8:24Speaker 1: Keavon Thibodeau and Bobby Ocareki, who are two of their
- 8:27Speaker 1: defensive leaders. That's all cool. That's what you probably saw
- 8:29Speaker 1: if you ever saw it on YouTube or you're watched
- 8:31Speaker 1: any of the stuff online. The best part that was backstage,
- 8:35Speaker 1: and I got to witness some of the coolest interactions
- 8:39Speaker 1: between Lawrence Taylor and Michael Strahan, Strahan and Keevon Thibodeau,
- 8:44Speaker 1: Tiki Barber talking with you know, the current guys, and
- 8:47Speaker 1: then you of course you go back to the Legends
- 8:49Speaker 1: and it's Harry Carson and it's Carl Banks and everybody's backstage.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But I also liked watching how these guys interacted with
- 8:55Speaker 1: the fans because there was a lot of fan interaction
- 8:57Speaker 1: and of course Strahan, who doesn't need to do any
- 8:59Speaker 1: of this stuff, doesn't need the money and certainly doesn't
- 9:02Speaker 1: need the fame. It's taking selfies with every single person
- 9:04Speaker 1: out there. So Strahan and I were recap and all that.
- 9:07Speaker 1: But the big attraction at this Fox event was going
- 9:11Speaker 1: to be the unveiling of Tom Brady and how that
- 9:14Speaker 1: was going to go down straight. Hen and Brady obviously
- 9:17Speaker 1: have a great relationship going back to years and years
- 9:19Speaker 1: in the NFL, but also production projects that they've done together.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And I've seen straight Han interview Brady on Fox but
- 9:26Speaker 1: also for Good Morning America. I remember there was an
- 9:28Speaker 1: Eagles Patriots joint practice going on back when like Mark
- 9:34Speaker 1: Sanchez and Tim Tebow were on the Eagle. So you
- 9:36Speaker 1: do the math. And straight Hen came down and I
- 9:39Speaker 1: was down there for Fox Sports one long before Good
- 9:42Speaker 1: Morning Football. Straight Han came down all the way to
- 9:44Speaker 1: Philly and he did like a seven minute sit down
- 9:46Speaker 1: with Brady and I was like, I was like, all right,
- 9:48Speaker 1: these guys, these guys are boys. I think they do
- 9:50Speaker 1: a lot of work together with a Chopro's production company,
- 9:55Speaker 1: the two of them. I think it's called Revolution of Sport.
- 9:58Speaker 1: They have done a lot of stuff together. So I'm like,
- 10:00Speaker 1: these guys know each other. So I asked straight Han
- 10:02Speaker 1: that Saturday. That Wednesday, when I first got there, I'm like,
- 10:05Speaker 1: do you think he's going to be good? And he
- 10:07Speaker 1: looked at me and he's like, has Brady ever not
- 10:09Speaker 1: been good? Of Like, you're right, you're right, you're right.
- 10:11Speaker 1: But I didn't know if he was going to be
- 10:13Speaker 1: good at broadcasting. So Wednesday night there's this open cocktails
- 10:17Speaker 1: type deal. And again no social media, no posting, no tweeting.
- 10:23Speaker 1: I respect the hell out of it. That's the Fox way.
- 10:25Speaker 1: It's like, we don't need everyone else. This is what
- 10:27Speaker 1: we do. So I get in the little table and
- 10:30Speaker 1: I talk to Edelman and I talked to Gronk, and
- 10:33Speaker 1: then I'm off on the corner and I'm talking to
- 10:35Speaker 1: a guy named Jeff Miller. If you don't know Jeff Miller,
- 10:37Speaker 1: I think he's the man. He's also like the voice
- 10:41Speaker 1: of like health and safety for the NFL. He works
- 10:43Speaker 1: at the league office. He's been there for about eight
- 10:45Speaker 1: nine years, maybe longer than that. And Jeff comes on
- 10:48Speaker 1: Good Morning Football the time when there's a new rule
- 10:50Speaker 1: and he wants to talk about it or there's a
- 10:51Speaker 1: new helmet being introduced or something around the league's help
- 10:54Speaker 1: and safety. And a lot of times you would think
- 10:56Speaker 1: a segment like that is like ough, here's a league
- 10:59Speaker 1: employee coming on to the league network to talk about
- 11:02Speaker 1: new helmets, and it's like, you know, can you can
- 11:05Speaker 1: you write the message? And then Jeff comes on and
- 11:07Speaker 1: he's like normal and he's rational, and he's cool and
- 11:10Speaker 1: it's comfortable and the conversation's always really good. So I'm
- 11:14Speaker 1: just talking to Jeff because I'm fascinated about this new
- 11:17Speaker 1: you know, kickoff rule. And I was like, I spoke
- 11:19Speaker 1: to Bubba Ventrone on my podcast, who's a defensive coach,
- 11:23Speaker 1: you know, he's a special teams coordinator or the Browns,
- 11:25Speaker 1: and he said it's gonna and Jeff and I were
- 11:27Speaker 1: talking about it, and what Jeff was saying was like,
- 11:29Speaker 1: you know, beyond the health and safety of the kickoff rule,
- 11:32Speaker 1: like only twenty two percent of the kickoffs last year
- 11:36Speaker 1: were even returned, and in the Super Bowl there were
- 11:39Speaker 1: thirteen kickoffs, all of them went for touchback. So he's like,
- 11:43Speaker 1: based on like the XFL we saw forty five percent
- 11:47Speaker 1: of kicks returned, or the UFL, whatever the league was
- 11:50Speaker 1: where they saw this thing. And he's like, at that,
- 11:52Speaker 1: at the very least, if you don't want to think
- 11:53Speaker 1: it's a help and safety thing, you think it's ruining
- 11:55Speaker 1: the game. We're gonna get kickoffs again, and in a
- 11:57Speaker 1: year where Devin Hester is being honored to go to
- 11:59Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame, like, it's cool that was a
- 12:01Speaker 1: new kickoff rule that maybe we'll get kickoffs. So we're
- 12:03Speaker 1: knee deep in this thing, and then I feel this
- 12:05Speaker 1: presence like coming over. I'm like, holy, that's Tom Brady.
- 12:11Speaker 1: And Tom Brady isn't coming over because he's walking back.
- 12:13Speaker 1: Tom Brady's coming over to say hello to me. I'm like,
- 12:15Speaker 1: all right, So I get up shake Brady's hand, like
- 12:18Speaker 1: I give him his rest bag or whatever. And then
- 12:20Speaker 1: Jeff is there and I'm like, this is Jeff Miller
- 12:21Speaker 1: from the league, and Brady just like starts and he's like,
- 12:25Speaker 1: can you explain the hip hop the hip drop tackle,
- 12:27Speaker 1: and like how you're going to enforce that and why
- 12:30Speaker 1: we're enforcing that, And all of a sudden we were
- 12:33Speaker 1: in a twenty five minute conversation myself, the league's office
- 12:38Speaker 1: representative who discusses health and safety and who is going
- 12:41Speaker 1: to speak the next day at the Fox seminar to
- 12:43Speaker 1: explain some of the new rules and some of the
- 12:45Speaker 1: statistics behind it, and why we're changing the hip drop
- 12:48Speaker 1: tackle and how the hip drop tackle has led to
- 12:50Speaker 1: a twenty or twenty times increase over the last couple
- 12:54Speaker 1: of years of injury because of it, and Tom Brady,
- 12:59Speaker 1: who's the goat, who had thoughts and I said it
- 13:02Speaker 1: on Good Morning football, and I'll say it anywhere, like
- 13:05Speaker 1: based on this conversation that we were having, just three
- 13:07Speaker 1: of us, Like Brady's speaking his mind, and whereas the league,
- 13:12Speaker 1: you know, is often accused of like muzzling people or like,
- 13:16Speaker 1: I don't know if this is going to be unfiltered
- 13:18Speaker 1: and completely, like Brady has thoughts on the rules. Brady
- 13:21Speaker 1: has thoughts on some of the ways that the quarterbacks
- 13:24Speaker 1: are protected in this era and doesn't think they were
- 13:26Speaker 1: protecting maybe in his early years. And Brady has thoughts,
- 13:30Speaker 1: So I was blown away twenty five minutes like this
- 13:32Speaker 1: guy has takes. The next night, Brady's up there on
- 13:36Speaker 1: a panel and he's talking with straight hand, and Brady's
- 13:39Speaker 1: like amazing talking and straight Hand's asking, and Brady's like
- 13:43Speaker 1: unfiltered talking about some of the ways that like his
- 13:46Speaker 1: team played in the toughness and how Belichick prepared them
- 13:48Speaker 1: and toughness was the key, and how in this day
- 13:51Speaker 1: and age, like he's not sure necessarily toughness his first
- 13:54Speaker 1: and foremost for these days one of these teams, maybe
- 13:56Speaker 1: it's finesse, and like I want to go back to
- 13:58Speaker 1: those days. So long story short, Aaron Brady, first of all,
- 14:04Speaker 1: dedicated to this, like has been put in the hours.
- 14:07Speaker 1: What's the Malcolm Gladwell thing, ten thousand hours? He ain't
- 14:09Speaker 1: there yet, it might take a while, but he is committed.
- 14:12Speaker 1: This is not Tom Brady flying in doing games, flying out.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Like Brady has been putting in the work. And I've
- 14:17Speaker 1: spoken to Kevin Burkhart, spoken to Aaron Andrews, I spoke
- 14:20Speaker 1: to Tom Rinaldi, I spoke to rich russo Ch Richie Science.
- 14:22Speaker 1: He's the guys who are going to work with them
- 14:24Speaker 1: every week. Brady's putting the work in. So what's that mean?
- 14:27Speaker 1: I and Burkhart have done a ton of games together,
- 14:31Speaker 1: practice games, and they've come into the studio to do
- 14:34Speaker 1: it together. They've done it from a room where the
- 14:36Speaker 1: two of them are doing it, and like they're watching games.
- 14:38Speaker 1: And what I love, what I've been told is that
- 14:40Speaker 1: it's not like they had a chance to prep these
- 14:41Speaker 1: games beforehand, so they're watching games blindly. Yes, they've been
- 14:45Speaker 1: games that have already been played, and they might have
- 14:46Speaker 1: been broadcasted already, but like, all right, pretend like it's
- 14:50Speaker 1: fresh go and it's Brady and Burkhart. So we're about
- 14:55Speaker 1: a month away from the regular season opener, which is
- 14:59Speaker 1: gonna be Brown's versus Cowboys. But I believe we're gonna
- 15:05Speaker 1: see Brady on the CA with Burkehart in a preseason
- 15:08Speaker 1: game in a couple of weeks. And I think, and
- 15:11Speaker 1: I'm not trying to set the bar too high, and
- 15:13Speaker 1: this isn't like you know, he needs to hear this
- 15:16Speaker 1: or that Fox needs to hear this. I think he's
- 15:18Speaker 1: gonna be really good. And I think that when he talks,
- 15:20Speaker 1: people want to listen. And for all the praise and
- 15:24Speaker 1: awards and love that we have for Greg Olsen, greg
- 15:26Speaker 1: Olsen's still in the Fox family. He's gonna be doing
- 15:28Speaker 1: games with Joe Davis, and if you're watching the NFC
- 15:31Speaker 1: the second best game of the week, it's gonna be
- 15:33Speaker 1: Greg Olsen on it. Like you're still make get your
- 15:35Speaker 1: Greg Olsen, who we love hearing this podcast, and it's
- 15:37Speaker 1: gonna be awesome at whatever he does. But I think
- 15:39Speaker 1: Brady's gonna be different. And I think Brady's gonna be
- 15:41Speaker 1: good too. As we're less than you know, six weeks away.
- 15:53Speaker 1: When I tell you all that, like, what's your thoughts
- 15:55Speaker 1: on Brady the broadcast? They're going in as just a
- 15:57Speaker 1: fan who has no insight going into this thing.
- 16:00Speaker 2: I guess like kind of like straight hand said, would
- 16:04Speaker 2: I expect any less from Brady? I I do love
- 16:07Speaker 2: the idea that he took this opportunity of like here's
- 16:10Speaker 2: this opening cocktail hour, no one's taking photos, be yourself,
- 16:14Speaker 2: you can get as sloppy as you want. And Brady
- 16:16Speaker 2: walks in is like, sit down, give me twenty five
- 16:18Speaker 2: minutes for going through this role, Like I don't know
- 16:20Speaker 2: enough about this. I want to hear your thoughts and
- 16:23Speaker 2: like tell me so that I can talk about this
- 16:25Speaker 2: tomorrow night, or I can talk about this three months
- 16:27Speaker 2: down the line. I love that. I mean, I you know,
- 16:32Speaker 2: I also love Olsen. He's been great on this show.
- 16:35Speaker 2: It's been great watching him on games, and it'll be
- 16:37Speaker 2: great that now there are two games with great announcers
- 16:41Speaker 2: going like you know, the more the merrier. I think
- 16:43Speaker 2: it's awesome. And I also, you know, it'll be so
- 16:48Speaker 2: cool to have Brady talking about teams he's played, players
- 16:51Speaker 2: he's played against, Like I can't wait for him to call,
- 16:54Speaker 2: you know, Mike Evans touchdown, like.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, they're getting that number one game, but week seven,
- 17:05Speaker 1: it's nine ers cheap on Fox and Brady's on the call.
- 17:08Speaker 1: I mean, that's pretty badass, you know, that's really cool.
- 17:12Speaker 1: So that was the Brady part of it. At this thing,
- 17:16Speaker 1: I had a long conversation with Alex Rodriguez. He was
- 17:18Speaker 1: invited because he's boxed great also in attendance where of
- 17:26Speaker 1: course all the different NFL guys and Gronk and I
- 17:30Speaker 1: have a really interesting relationship going on right now. It
- 17:34Speaker 1: is expanding beyond our football work, where we text all
- 17:38Speaker 1: day about life, about New York. And Gronk embarrassed me Aaron,
- 17:44Speaker 1: and he did so in a way that I'm gonna
- 17:46Speaker 1: hear about this for a bit and I want to
- 17:49Speaker 1: put my foot down and correct it on my podcast.
- 17:52Speaker 1: So I texted Gronk after the White Party, I said,
- 17:56Speaker 1: give me all the gossip, give me all the juice.
- 17:58Speaker 1: I see you in all these pictures, like what do
- 17:59Speaker 1: you got harmless? He thought that was the thirstiest, most
- 18:07Speaker 1: pathetic thing in the world. And then he wrote back
- 18:10Speaker 1: to me, He's like, really, question Mark. I'm like, yes,
- 18:12Speaker 1: He goes, what type of quote unquote gossip are you
- 18:16Speaker 1: looking for? And I'm like, I don't know, give me anything,
- 18:18Speaker 1: Like who is there? What celebrities. He goes, really what celebrities.
- 18:25Speaker 1: So then we get to this thing and the table
- 18:28Speaker 1: is as decorated a table with football accolades as you
- 18:31Speaker 1: could imagine we're talking about, just like imagine a round table.
- 18:35Speaker 1: And it's Tom Brady, Michael Strahan, Howie Long, Julian Edelman,
- 18:44Speaker 1: Michael Vick, Arles Woodson was at the table. Yes, Mark
- 18:51Speaker 1: Sanchez is at the table, and Greg Olsen is at
- 18:54Speaker 1: the table. And there was one more luminary that I'm like, oh, oh,
- 18:57Speaker 1: Jonathan Vilma, who's like badass of all badasses. They're all
- 19:00Speaker 1: at this table and we're all just like off the
- 19:02Speaker 1: buffet line, hanging out on a giant like resort, you know,
- 19:06Speaker 1: table well, and Gronk comes over and in front of
- 19:09Speaker 1: all of them is like trigger, has anyone wanted anything
- 19:15Speaker 1: more than you want that invite to Michael Rubens White Party?
- 19:19Speaker 1: And I'm like, stop it, stop it right now now.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Three members at that table straight hand, Brady Gronk, We're
- 19:27Speaker 1: at the party. Edelman chimes in and says, I've been
- 19:30Speaker 1: invited three times. I've never had the opportunity to go.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Vic says he's been invited. Whinson says he's been invited,
- 19:37Speaker 1: and now Gronk is like, oh, it would be Sregger
- 19:40Speaker 1: would retire, and like it would be his dream. All
- 19:42Speaker 1: he wants to talk about is the White Party. And
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm like, this obsession with the White Party, it is
- 19:46Speaker 1: not true. I don't want to be at the White Party.
- 19:49Speaker 1: I've said it on my podcast. I've said I promise
- 19:52Speaker 1: you I am not begging to go. The question is
- 19:55Speaker 1: would I go if I was invited? So I'm denial
- 19:58Speaker 1: on it, and then you know, Straighthand just pops in
- 20:01Speaker 1: and is like if I got you an invite, would
- 20:04Speaker 1: you go? And I was like no, and then they're
- 20:07Speaker 1: all like yeah, and I was like, I probably would go.
- 20:09Speaker 1: I think I would go, Aaron, would you go?
- 20:12Speaker 2: I think if you if someone invites you to a party, uh,
- 20:18Speaker 2: you know, like if the host invites you and it's
- 20:21Speaker 2: a normal thing, you can say no. But if a
- 20:24Speaker 2: legend invites you to come with them, I kind of
- 20:27Speaker 2: thank you, got it?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Like if Straighthn's like Sreggar, you're my plus one?
- 20:30Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah that you don't want to disappoint straight hand,
- 20:33Speaker 2: you know, yeah.
- 20:34Speaker 1: Or like Gronk like leaves his his sports illustrated swimsuit
- 20:37Speaker 1: girlfriend Camille Costeck behind and says, shregar, you're my plus one?
- 20:41Speaker 1: Then I and and then do I get to pose
- 20:43Speaker 1: in the photos with Drake and and with a little
- 20:46Speaker 1: with and with who else? Kevin Hart and all the
- 20:50Speaker 1: NFL like look as a post with c J. Stroud
- 20:51Speaker 1: and Joe Burrow.
- 20:52Speaker 2: You can hang out with Hard and he gets so
- 20:54Speaker 2: you know, and then you can text Gronk all the
- 20:56Speaker 2: gossip afterwards, although he'll be there too, but he'll be there.
- 21:01Speaker 1: The rest of the evening was great. Roger Goodell was there,
- 21:04Speaker 1: had a really good conversation with him. But my MVP
- 21:08Speaker 1: of the weekend, my MVP of the weekend, the guy
- 21:12Speaker 1: who I had the most fun with and who I
- 21:14Speaker 1: see myself being lifelong friends with and I think we'll
- 21:16Speaker 1: have him on the podcast soon once the college football
- 21:18Speaker 1: season starts is Cooper Manning. Cooper Manning was hilarious, awesome
- 21:26Speaker 1: to talk ball with. And it is one of these
- 21:28Speaker 1: guys that's like in a way Forrest Gump, like you
- 21:30Speaker 1: could take a conversation anywhere and he has a touch
- 21:33Speaker 1: point for it. A he's the oldest Manning brother. He's
- 21:39Speaker 1: older than Peyton any Lie and has all of that
- 21:41Speaker 1: insight be his son Arch is the number one high
- 21:44Speaker 1: school recruit in the country and is going into another
- 21:47Speaker 1: year at Texas where he'll be a quarterback and hopefully
- 21:49Speaker 1: we'll see the field, or hopefully not if that's not
- 21:52Speaker 1: what they're looking for and they want quinn Ewers to
- 21:54Speaker 1: go the whole way, and next year it'll be the guy.
- 21:57Speaker 1: But also a very very very funny human being, like
- 22:02Speaker 1: accomplishing his own right from the business sense, was in
- 22:04Speaker 1: insurance for years, might still be, but also is one
- 22:08Speaker 1: of the key members of people who puts together the
- 22:12Speaker 1: graduate hotels which are now popping up on campuses everywhere,
- 22:15Speaker 1: basically an upscale hotel at like major college campus. So
- 22:20Speaker 1: for years you would travel to Ole Miss and it's
- 22:24Speaker 1: either get have to rent a house or you stay
- 22:26Speaker 1: in a courtyard by Marriott or like a holiday inn.
- 22:29Speaker 1: And Cooper and his investor's thoughts was like, why don't
- 22:31Speaker 1: we put up a nice hotel that families who want
- 22:34Speaker 1: to put stay in a nicer hotel, Like it's nothing crazy,
- 22:37Speaker 1: but it's a different version than the hotels that have
- 22:40Speaker 1: always been available. So there's a least an option to do,
- 22:42Speaker 1: so they've thirty seven of them right now. Hilton is
- 22:45Speaker 1: buying in on it like a massive find it Anyway,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I say all this because Cooper and I got put
- 22:53Speaker 1: together and we were just cracking each other up. I
- 22:55Speaker 1: think he's amazing, and I have so much insight on
- 22:59Speaker 1: a his son and the Texas stuff, but also what's
- 23:03Speaker 1: going on in the overall Manning world old from Cooper Manning.
- 23:07Speaker 1: One thing I did not realize is that like Eli
- 23:12Speaker 1: still lives in Jersey, Peyton lives in Denver, Cooper lives
- 23:15Speaker 1: in New Orleans, and these three guys are still in
- 23:18Speaker 1: like a text chain and talk every single day. I
- 23:20Speaker 1: feel like they need a reality show. If we haven't
- 23:22Speaker 1: had enough Manning brothers yet, I feel like Cooper needs
- 23:25Speaker 1: to be thrown in it because he is the eldest brother,
- 23:28Speaker 1: the funniest of the three, and in my eye, it's
- 23:31Speaker 1: like maybe the most interesting because we haven't gotten the
- 23:34Speaker 1: most out of Cooper Manning and he has this incredible
- 23:36Speaker 1: decorated life as always being like the other Manning brother,
- 23:39Speaker 1: but like in his own right is absolutely incredible. Do
- 23:42Speaker 1: you have a feel for Cooper Manning yet? I feel like.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Only there's I forget what commercials they were, but the
- 23:47Speaker 2: Mannings were doing a set of commercials for a casino
- 23:50Speaker 2: or a betting app or something, and Cooper was in
- 23:53Speaker 2: them and was the funniest part of it as far like,
- 23:57Speaker 2: he played it up very very well. And despite like
- 24:01Speaker 2: having these two star studded brothers, Cooper was like he
- 24:05Speaker 2: was he was the best joke in the and that
- 24:07Speaker 2: that sounds like he's a joke. He was providing the
- 24:10Speaker 2: most hilarious moment in the pot in the in the commercial,
- 24:13Speaker 2: for sure.
- 24:14Speaker 1: It's tremendous. And he's great. And I'll tell you he
- 24:16Speaker 1: does these weekly things for Fox NFL Kickoff, So you'll
- 24:19Speaker 1: see Cooper Manning on Fox NFL Kickoff. And they're little bits,
- 24:24Speaker 1: but I'll put them up against any of the stuff
- 24:26Speaker 1: that like we used to do with uh Calliendo or
- 24:29Speaker 1: Wriggle or what you see with Marshall, and I'm like,
- 24:30Speaker 1: they're good. So Cooper Manning and I we're having a
- 24:33Speaker 1: great time. We also we're part of a crazy travel
- 24:38Speaker 1: situation because that Friday, what's it called cyber World or
- 24:42Speaker 1: cyber strike or whatever.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, what what was that thing?
- 24:46Speaker 1: Yeah? Strike World? I don't know. So the we get
- 24:52Speaker 1: on a plane, Cooper Manning and eyes. We're both flying
- 24:55Speaker 1: back to New York. He's got business to take care of.
- 24:58Speaker 1: I'm going back to New York to my family. And
- 25:00Speaker 1: we get on the plane and we get all messled
- 25:01Speaker 1: in and we're taking a red Eye and it's Thursday
- 25:05Speaker 1: night or whatever it is, and the pilot comes on
- 25:08Speaker 1: and is like, folks, we're gonna be delayed a little
- 25:12Speaker 1: bit here, we're actually going to dplane. I'm like, oh,
- 25:15Speaker 1: that's not good. That's not good. You get off of
- 25:18Speaker 1: red Eye and you look and you didn't even get
- 25:21Speaker 1: off the runway, and you look at the Lax gate
- 25:24Speaker 1: and you see people starting to lay out their sweatshirts
- 25:27Speaker 1: as pillows because you might get rescheduled, you might not.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Cooper and I, fortunately enough, we're like, let's let's just
- 25:35Speaker 1: get out of here. We went back to the hotel.
- 25:37Speaker 1: We got on a different flight the next day, not
- 25:40Speaker 1: on the airline that was affected, and we escaped. And
- 25:42Speaker 1: I feel like he and I it was like escape
- 25:44Speaker 1: from La Cooper Manning and I always in coordination, taking
- 25:48Speaker 1: ubers at like two in the morning from Lax back
- 25:52Speaker 1: to Palas Verdes and another uber at like five am
- 25:54Speaker 1: from talis So Cooper Manning and I are forever length.
- 26:06Speaker 1: One of the key things that came out of that
- 26:08Speaker 1: whole Fox you know we call it a seminar, is
- 26:13Speaker 1: that the rules are changing and I you're gonna this
- 26:17Speaker 1: is gonna be dated because I think Thursday night at
- 26:19Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame game, you're gonna see the dynamic
- 26:21Speaker 1: kickoff rule. And I tried getting ahead of this with
- 26:23Speaker 1: having Bubba Vitron a couple of weeks ago, and if
- 26:25Speaker 1: you're listening to this podcast, go find that he explains
- 26:27Speaker 1: it all like it is going to be wild. The
- 26:31Speaker 1: response is and I think teams are gonna handle differently.
- 26:34Speaker 1: Some times are just gonna boot it out of the
- 26:36Speaker 1: end zone and say, you know what, touchback. I know
- 26:38Speaker 1: it's the thirty, but like we're gonna do a touchback
- 26:40Speaker 1: because I don't know how to defend this thing. Other
- 26:41Speaker 1: teams are gonna get super creative with it. I'm fascinating
- 26:45Speaker 1: to see the reaction. I think it will. It'll be
- 26:47Speaker 1: nuts tonight as they do the Hall of Fame game
- 26:49Speaker 1: because it's really different and I can go through all
- 26:52Speaker 1: the rules, but you'll fall asleep. But like just when
- 26:54Speaker 1: you visualize it in your head, know that there's not
- 26:56Speaker 1: a ton of footage of this thing. So teams have
- 27:00Speaker 1: been trying everything in practice, and special teams coaches have
- 27:03Speaker 1: been going, you know, hog wild. I talk to one
- 27:06Speaker 1: this week who's like, I've been up all night and
- 27:08Speaker 1: I've got about eight hundred ways to attack this kickoff.
- 27:11Speaker 1: Mike Tomlin said in a feature that we ran on
- 27:15Speaker 1: Good Morning Football that he contacted the guys at Madden
- 27:21Speaker 1: Electronic Arts and asked them to simulate a few different
- 27:26Speaker 1: schematics that he might have with the dynamic kicking rule,
- 27:31Speaker 1: and they came back with all this footage of like
- 27:33Speaker 1: Madden simulations of it. So I say all that, I
- 27:37Speaker 1: just think the kickoff rolls be crazy. And Walda Anderson,
- 27:39Speaker 1: who's kind of like the old Mike Pereira, Dean Blendino,
- 27:43Speaker 1: Al river On now doing that for the NFL. He
- 27:45Speaker 1: sit up there and answered a million questions at the
- 27:47Speaker 1: Fox thing from all the announcers, because the announcers with
- 27:50Speaker 1: an open Q and A are like, all right, can this happen?
- 27:52Speaker 1: Like are we gonna see this happen? It's just possible,
- 27:54Speaker 1: And he had all the answers. But like if guys
- 27:56Speaker 1: who call the games had a million questions, just wait
- 27:59Speaker 1: for the fans.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Uh.
- 28:00Speaker 1: That is going to be something to keep an eye on.
- 28:02Speaker 1: All right, So we fast forward. It's you know, a
- 28:06Speaker 1: couple days I have off say, all right, Football's coming back.
- 28:11Speaker 1: Good Morning Football's returning. Now I've never formally announced this.
- 28:15Speaker 1: I don't like doing formal announcements, but I am back
- 28:17Speaker 1: with Good Morning Football. And that was up in the
- 28:19Speaker 1: air for a bit whether or how we're going to
- 28:20Speaker 1: make this work. I said from the very beginning, I
- 28:22Speaker 1: don't plan on moving my family, but I want to
- 28:24Speaker 1: be a part of Good Morning Football. So we came
- 28:26Speaker 1: to an agreement the NFL Network and I that I
- 28:30Speaker 1: am going to do a bunch of shows in LA,
- 28:33Speaker 1: many of them being Mondays because I'm out there already
- 28:37Speaker 1: for Fox, and then I'm gonna do a bunch of
- 28:40Speaker 1: shows in New York. And the New York ones are
- 28:43Speaker 1: going to be from a studio, not from my house,
- 28:45Speaker 1: not from my basement, not from my garage, not from
- 28:47Speaker 1: a bed. And we're going to see how this works.
- 28:50Speaker 1: But Good Morning Football is a little different now, so
- 28:52Speaker 1: it starts instead of at seven am, It starts at
- 28:54Speaker 1: eight am Eastern. It's two hours on NFL Network. Then
- 28:58Speaker 1: it's going to reair on NFL Network. But then we
- 29:00Speaker 1: have this whole other thing going on, which I'm trying
- 29:02Speaker 1: to get used to, no break in between a fresh
- 29:07Speaker 1: two hours air and of a whole other show called
- 29:10Speaker 1: GMFB Overtime, which airs on Roku, not the NFL network, Roku,
- 29:17Speaker 1: which I'm getting the hang of because I don't. I
- 29:19Speaker 1: didn't know Roku before this deal happened, And now I'm
- 29:21Speaker 1: realizing I'm gonna be on the faces of Broku, which
- 29:23Speaker 1: is neat. But then starting with Week one of the
- 29:27Speaker 1: NFL season, it's gonna be on syndication in Fox local
- 29:32Speaker 1: markets across the country. This second two hours called GMFB Overtime.
- 29:37Speaker 1: All right, so we do two hours for NFL Network.
- 29:40Speaker 1: That's your usual meat and potatoes football show in house,
- 29:43Speaker 1: everyone knows it. Then the next two hours are going
- 29:45Speaker 1: to be a little looser, a little more I don't know,
- 29:49Speaker 1: what can I say, slice of life pop culture more,
- 29:56Speaker 1: let's say, less talking about the backup tight ends on
- 29:59Speaker 1: the Saints, and more talking about Joe Burrow's haircut, if
- 30:03Speaker 1: that makes sense, and our reactions to that, and that's
- 30:05Speaker 1: gonna air on like one hundred and nineteen different local markets.
- 30:10Speaker 1: Apparently that are any Fox marks like Fox Topeka, Fox Albuquerque,
- 30:15Speaker 1: all throughout the day in those local markets, and that
- 30:18Speaker 1: either airs for one hour or two hours, spending what
- 30:20Speaker 1: they want and you're saying, well, who's gonna watch that?
- 30:23Speaker 1: Apparently everyone bought this thing, and also apparently.
- 30:28Speaker 3: Football wins like football sales, like people would rather watch
- 30:32Speaker 3: highlights of football, people talking about football and have the
- 30:35Speaker 3: NFL in the middle of the day than maybe a
- 30:37Speaker 3: daytime talk show or a court drama or.
- 30:41Speaker 1: One of those judge shows. So I don't know, we'll see,
- 30:45Speaker 1: but that was what it was. So my deal is
- 30:47Speaker 1: I'm gonna be back and forth. It's gonna be interesting
- 30:51Speaker 1: to see how I hold up with it, but I
- 30:52Speaker 1: think I'm gonna be all right. And it's four hours,
- 30:55Speaker 1: not three, but you'll probably only see it for two
- 30:59Speaker 1: unless you're gonna watch two hours NFL Network and then
- 31:02Speaker 1: jump over to the ROKU or the syndication. So that's
- 31:05Speaker 1: my public service announcement. Oh and McCarty's no longer with us.
- 31:09Speaker 1: McCarty his contract was up and he was like, I'm
- 31:12Speaker 1: not moving my family out to LA for a show
- 31:15Speaker 1: that is at those hours. It just doesn't gel with
- 31:17Speaker 1: what we have. He's got everything out in New Jersey
- 31:19Speaker 1: and he's set and he's got other opportunities. So I
- 31:22Speaker 1: love Jason mccordy. I'm gonna him on the podcast because
- 31:24Speaker 1: that's my dog. He was incredible filling in for Nate.
- 31:27Speaker 1: But just as Jason filled in for Nate, we have
- 31:29Speaker 1: a new host, and it's Akbar who comes from American
- 31:34Speaker 1: Ninja Warrior and was with the NFL Network beforehand. And
- 31:37Speaker 1: then Jamie Erdall did make the move, so she's out there.
- 31:40Speaker 1: She's with her three kids and her husband. They're living
- 31:42Speaker 1: out in Manhattan Beach, so seems like it's kind of stable.
- 31:45Speaker 1: We're four episodes in. It's going really well. I'm really
- 31:49Speaker 1: pretty happy with how it all worked out. We'll see
- 31:51Speaker 1: where it goes all right, But now we had to
- 31:54Speaker 1: actually launch the show, so I, like Walter Jones, who
- 31:58Speaker 1: used to play for the Seattle Seahawks, said you'll see
- 32:00Speaker 1: me day one, Like, I don't need to be out
- 32:01Speaker 1: there for a week of rehearsals. Kyle went out there
- 32:04Speaker 1: for rehearsals. I didn't. I'm a cantankeris. I'm like, no,
- 32:07Speaker 1: I'll be in New York rehearsals and I'll get there
- 32:08Speaker 1: day one, which I did. But Sunday I arrived and
- 32:12Speaker 1: I'm like, do I go to sleep at five o'clock?
- 32:16Speaker 1: Do I go to sleep at six o'clock? Let's try
- 32:18Speaker 1: seven o'clock Sunday night. Well, I'm sitting there in my
- 32:22Speaker 1: hotel room and I'm staring at the ceiling, and I've
- 32:25Speaker 1: got all the nerves for the first day of school,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and I just stared at the ceiling till ten o'clock,
- 32:29Speaker 1: went to bed at one am Eastern, and woke up
- 32:30Speaker 1: at two forty five am for the show. We go,
- 32:33Speaker 1: We do the show. The show is tremendous, it's awesome.
- 32:36Speaker 1: I'm absolutely exhausted. Afterwards, we do a commercial shoot afterwards
- 32:42Speaker 1: Aaron where I don't even remember it. I don't even
- 32:45Speaker 1: remember it. It was like it felt like it was
- 32:47Speaker 1: just a blur, like we're all like posing and smiling
- 32:49Speaker 1: and fake laughing and doing all that stuff and that's
- 32:51Speaker 1: going to air on a commercial. And it was great.
- 32:53Speaker 1: But like, I'm so fried, So I go back to
- 32:56Speaker 1: the hotel room like I'm gonna work out I put
- 32:58Speaker 1: on my shorts, my T shirt, my gym sneakers, and
- 33:02Speaker 1: I fall asleep in my sneakers on the hotel bed
- 33:08Speaker 1: with like my legs dangling off. I crash for like
- 33:10Speaker 1: a forty five minute nap. But I wake up. I'm like,
- 33:12Speaker 1: where am I? What time is it? It's right out,
- 33:15Speaker 1: but I'm now like getting a second wind. And that's
- 33:18Speaker 1: when Andrew Whitworth texts me and says, you're in town.
- 33:23Speaker 1: You want to grab dinner? That's all I ever need? Yes,
- 33:27Speaker 1: I do. Where do you want to go? Whitworth says,
- 33:32Speaker 1: I'll pick you up. I'm like, what a gentleman. He's like,
- 33:35Speaker 1: where are you? I'm like Manhattan Beach. He says, that's
- 33:39Speaker 1: nowhere near where I am. I'm like, so, Whitworth, to
- 33:46Speaker 1: his credit, says, all right, I'm gonna change my day around.
- 33:50Speaker 1: He had two kids at camp, so he's like solo wall.
- 33:52Speaker 1: So he's like, I'm gonna go drop by rams camp
- 33:55Speaker 1: and then I'll come scoop you up afterwards and I'll
- 33:57Speaker 1: take you to one of my favorite spots. Like great
- 34:02Speaker 1: car pulls up. Andrew Whitworth in the car, opens up
- 34:05Speaker 1: the door. He is wearing shorts and a T shirt.
- 34:09Speaker 1: I'm wearing like a nice shirt, like a button down
- 34:13Speaker 1: and jeans because I don't know where we're going. And
- 34:15Speaker 1: he's like, have you been to the Soho House in Malibu?
- 34:19Speaker 1: I'm like, no, I put it into my phone out
- 34:22Speaker 1: of curiosity. Hour away. Great, just what I need to
- 34:27Speaker 1: know that I'm gonna have to be coming back an
- 34:28Speaker 1: hour from somewhere as I have to be up tomorrow
- 34:31Speaker 1: at two forty five am. We start driving out there
- 34:34Speaker 1: no traffic. He and I are chat and it's great.
- 34:36Speaker 1: I love this guy. We go to the Soho House
- 34:38Speaker 1: in Malibu. We meet up with his friend Tony, who
- 34:41Speaker 1: I've become friendly with over the years through Andrew. And
- 34:44Speaker 1: Tony knows McVeigh and mcveay his friends with him, and
- 34:47Speaker 1: Tony was at the McVeigh wedding, so we haven't Aaron.
- 34:50Speaker 1: This sounds really like social media, like elitists and all
- 34:53Speaker 1: this thing. Apparently this Hope, this no Noo Soho House
- 35:01Speaker 1: Malibu is like the most exclusive club in the world.
- 35:05Speaker 1: So you heard of the sow Whole House, which is
- 35:07Speaker 1: like an exclusive members only club which you have to
- 35:09Speaker 1: interview for and you can't even walk foot step foot
- 35:12Speaker 1: in unless you're a member. And they have that in
- 35:14Speaker 1: cities across the world, and it's like in Barcelona, and
- 35:18Speaker 1: it's in Miami, and there's multiple ones in New York,
- 35:20Speaker 1: and it's like it's this private members club, Like what
- 35:23Speaker 1: goes on? You have no idea. You're not allowed to
- 35:25Speaker 1: have cell phones in there either. Well you can get
- 35:29Speaker 1: into that, but that doesn't grant you access to this
- 35:31Speaker 1: Malible one. This Malibu one is like you have to
- 35:34Speaker 1: be a member of the Solo House, but then you
- 35:35Speaker 1: need to interview separately to be a part of the
- 35:38Speaker 1: Malibu One. So I don't know any of this. We
- 35:42Speaker 1: show up and I don't think I'm allowed to say
- 35:45Speaker 1: the celebrity, but every single table had a famous actor
- 35:48Speaker 1: or actress at it. And it just overlooks the Pacific Ocean.
- 35:51Speaker 1: And to like five hundred yards to your left is
- 35:54Speaker 1: the Nobu in Malibu, which is apparently like the hottest
- 35:59Speaker 1: restaurant in the world. And I was looking my nose,
- 36:02Speaker 1: like my nose was like looking down on the Nobu
- 36:05Speaker 1: because anyone off the street can walk in there, but
- 36:08Speaker 1: only we can walk in this thing. I say, all
- 36:10Speaker 1: this Whitworth is in there with like a T shirt
- 36:13Speaker 1: and shorts and is the most comfortable guy in the building.
- 36:16Speaker 1: He's six foot eighty, walks in. He's the man. He
- 36:18Speaker 1: knows everybody, And I'm like, what the hell is going
- 36:21Speaker 1: on right here? A minute ago, I was in my shoes,
- 36:24Speaker 1: asleep on a courtyard Marriott bed, looking at the stars
- 36:28Speaker 1: in the ceiling. Not only what time it was. I
- 36:31Speaker 1: didn't drink alcohol, just drank iced tea, but like an
- 36:35Speaker 1: hour into this amazing meal, I'm fading. So it's one
- 36:38Speaker 1: of those aeron where it's like, do you raise your
- 36:40Speaker 1: hand and leave or do you wait to see who's next?
- 36:43Speaker 1: Because Matt Damon or Clooney or Sidney Sweeney is gonna
- 36:47Speaker 1: walk into this restaurant next. And though I can't talk
- 36:50Speaker 1: to them, take a photo of them, or interact with them,
- 36:52Speaker 1: or even share that they were there, I'd like to
- 36:54Speaker 1: get my eyes on them and at least say I
- 36:56Speaker 1: saw them. I did the responsible thing exactly at seven
- 37:02Speaker 1: fifty nine pm, which was ten fifty nine pm on
- 37:06Speaker 1: the E. I've been up NonStop wire to wire. I
- 37:10Speaker 1: just called an uber and I said, if I get
- 37:12Speaker 1: an uber, it's gonna show up, and I'm gonna go
- 37:16Speaker 1: get the uber. I get in this uber, I say
- 37:18Speaker 1: goodbye to like the party of the century at this
- 37:21Speaker 1: Soho house, which again I don't even know if I'll
- 37:24Speaker 1: ever be able to set foot in again, because me
- 37:26Speaker 1: to not only know a member, but this member has
- 37:27Speaker 1: to also pass the test to be in the Malibu one.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I get in the uber, Aaron, I'm not kidding. The
- 37:33Speaker 1: uber said forty five minutes. I slept for forty four
- 37:35Speaker 1: minutes of those just was fast asleep. Get to the hotel,
- 37:40Speaker 1: go to the room. Alarm starts, boom two forty five
- 37:44Speaker 1: up to another show of Good Morning Football. And that's
- 37:47Speaker 1: when McVeigh texts me and is like, I see you're
- 37:50Speaker 1: in town. Why don't you come to rams practice again?
- 37:55Speaker 1: It's what do they say when you walk in a restaurant,
- 37:56Speaker 1: you order everything, your stomach is, your eyes are bigger
- 37:58Speaker 1: than your Yeah, this is me in La Dude. I'm like, yeah,
- 38:02Speaker 1: no doubt. When he's like, we don't start till four
- 38:05Speaker 1: forty so you have all day, I'm like, yeah, no, great,
- 38:08Speaker 1: sure enough. Midway through the day, I'm fading. I meet
- 38:13Speaker 1: a friend for lunch, okay, and I go to a
- 38:16Speaker 1: place called the Strand House in Manhattan Beach, which again
- 38:20Speaker 1: sick on the water, insane views great, but I'm fading early.
- 38:26Speaker 1: I haven't worked out once in these three days. I
- 38:27Speaker 1: plan on working out all three days. I haven't slept
- 38:30Speaker 1: at all. I planned on staying on these coast hours.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I didn't do that at all. Through that out the
- 38:33Speaker 1: window and then I planned. I'm like, if I'm going
- 38:36Speaker 1: to eat, I want to eat good. Well. We had
- 38:38Speaker 1: pizza and nachos and savice at this thing, and then
- 38:42Speaker 1: the night before I had some Maybe it is terrible,
- 38:46Speaker 1: just just just just just crushing my body, terrible stuff.
- 38:49Speaker 1: No Podell, I wanted to play Podell. No putdel. We
- 38:54Speaker 1: finished lunch. I get back. I'm like fading hard. I
- 38:58Speaker 1: go to Starbucks. I get a giant iced coffee, the Trent,
- 39:02Speaker 1: the size. I suck it down. I call an uber
- 39:04Speaker 1: and we're off to Loyola Marrymount University, home of Bo
- 39:07Speaker 1: Kimball and Hank Gathers many years ago. Rams have camp.
- 39:10Speaker 1: I get out the door of the Uber. I have
- 39:12Speaker 1: no idea where I'm walking. This guy with a RAMS
- 39:15Speaker 1: lanyard is there, and I'm like, dude, you know where
- 39:17Speaker 1: to go for practice? And he's like, sregger, good morning football.
- 39:20Speaker 1: I'm like, yes, celebrity famous, show me the way and
- 39:23Speaker 1: he's like, yeah, it's over there, So like just you
- 39:26Speaker 1: take a right, like whatever you gotta walk about to me,
- 39:28Speaker 1: I'm like, okay, no, that's not the guy. Find another guy,
- 39:30Speaker 1: another guy whose name I'm gonna shout out, Patrick Esposito,
- 39:35Speaker 1: who works in the marketing group, and he's like, I
- 39:37Speaker 1: got you. Patrick takes me on this long walk all
- 39:39Speaker 1: the way to the field, get to the field, and
- 39:42Speaker 1: Aaron I was like a kid in a candy store.
- 39:45Speaker 1: The coolest day. The Rams treated me amazing. But the
- 39:49Speaker 1: fact of the matter is, even if you're a fan
- 39:50Speaker 1: going to Rams camp, it's at this like smaller, quainter
- 39:55Speaker 1: like setup where you have to like get there. But
- 39:57Speaker 1: once you get to Loyola Marymount, they built this field
- 40:00Speaker 1: off the soccer field from what the what the soccer
- 40:04Speaker 1: teams is. They made a football field out of it,
- 40:05Speaker 1: and like the fans are right up there, right up
- 40:08Speaker 1: on it, and it's like it's not an eighty thousand
- 40:11Speaker 1: fan extravaganza. It's like I don't even want to give
- 40:14Speaker 1: a number, but I would say it's closer to like
- 40:15Speaker 1: five thousand to ten thousand fans there, and it's every
- 40:19Speaker 1: seat's a good one. The players are right there. I'm
- 40:22Speaker 1: watching Stafford sign of autographs. I'm watching Nakua sign autographs.
- 40:25Speaker 1: I get there, the first person I see is my guy,
- 40:29Speaker 1: Les Sneid, the GM who we had in the podcast.
- 40:31Speaker 1: He and I are talking for thirty minutes. We go
- 40:33Speaker 1: down the entire roster. We talk about everything we get.
- 40:36Speaker 1: I get my info from the rams and Less is
- 40:39Speaker 1: honest and brutally honest about all of it. I get
- 40:42Speaker 1: his thoughts on hard knocks about you know how it
- 40:44Speaker 1: went with Joe Shane, what his thoughts are. He didn't
- 40:45Speaker 1: watch it, he said, but he's like, if I were
- 40:47Speaker 1: to do it, and this is interesting, like I would
- 40:49Speaker 1: go all in also, and I think Joe was the
- 40:50Speaker 1: same way. Like if we're going to have the camera,
- 40:52Speaker 1: it's like, I'm not going to hide away and try
- 40:53Speaker 1: to not be myself. I'm gonna be my authentic self.
- 40:56Speaker 1: But this is when it gets cool. McVeigh comes up
- 40:58Speaker 1: and I'm like, all right, he's got practice to go.
- 41:00Speaker 1: They start. Mcvay's talking to me and practice is about
- 41:02Speaker 1: to start, and I'm like, no, you go do your job.
- 41:04Speaker 1: But he's asking me about how how Melon Betty you're doing.
- 41:06Speaker 1: I'm asking him now he's doing he was in the
- 41:08Speaker 1: French riviera for ten days. He's telling me about that.
- 41:11Speaker 1: But Sean, I got it. I gotta tell you, Like,
- 41:14Speaker 1: I think people are gonna like this sounds. So he's jacked,
- 41:18Speaker 1: like he spent the off season just like getting any
- 41:22Speaker 1: ridiculous shape and not losing weight. I'm talking putting on
- 41:24Speaker 1: muscle where he's absolutely like he looks like he's Dan
- 41:28Speaker 1: Campbell now, like he's completely jacked. So I think that's
- 41:31Speaker 1: gonna be something. Jimmy Garoppolo's on the team. I forgot that.
- 41:35Speaker 1: Jimmy Garoppolo comes running over, talk to him. Cooper Cup
- 41:38Speaker 1: is like the man. He comes over and talks to me.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Nakua and I speak. I spoke to Jared Verst, a
- 41:42Speaker 1: rookie who I'm really excited about. But then after practice,
- 41:45Speaker 1: after they had a really good practice, Stafford comes over
- 41:47Speaker 1: and like Stafford had time for me, Like I'm not
- 41:50Speaker 1: with a camera, I'm not with a recording device, like
- 41:53Speaker 1: he could have been like, oh what's up, dude.
- 41:54Speaker 2: Hey.
- 41:55Speaker 1: We talked for like fifteen minutes and he looks like
- 41:58Speaker 1: he's in really good shape. But here's the thing. He
- 42:00Speaker 1: looks like slim and trim and like mobile. I'm excited
- 42:05Speaker 1: for Stafford because what they did this offseason the Rams,
- 42:07Speaker 1: and this was by design. They signed Jonah Jackson, who's
- 42:10Speaker 1: gonna be out for a little bit. They signed Dots
- 42:13Speaker 1: in the Big Boy, and then they also drafted guys
- 42:15Speaker 1: on the offensive line, so like they're really big upfront
- 42:19Speaker 1: to protect Matthew Stafford, and I think they're really excited
- 42:22Speaker 1: about the run game. And now you get a healthy
- 42:25Speaker 1: Cooper Cup, a healthy Houka Nakua, and then like that
- 42:29Speaker 1: third wide receiver spot could be anyone from to two
- 42:32Speaker 1: at well to DeMarcus Robinson to this rookie Jordan Whittington,
- 42:36Speaker 1: who they're super excited about. Like this sounds me being hyperbolic,
- 42:41Speaker 1: and it's one of those where like you go to
- 42:42Speaker 1: one camp, you come out and you have a million takes,
- 42:44Speaker 1: like and I'll the Rams offense it's gonna be awesome
- 42:47Speaker 1: this year. Can the defense stop anym That's going to
- 42:50Speaker 1: be the key. But like my early pick for a
- 42:52Speaker 1: team that might score the most points in the league,
- 42:54Speaker 1: like mcvay's got to dialed in Stafford and Nicola really clicked.
- 42:58Speaker 1: Cup is healthy. They've got the run game. I love this,
- 43:00Speaker 1: kyn Williams, like, I think the Rams might have the
- 43:03Speaker 1: number one offense in the entire league this year. And
- 43:06Speaker 1: it's not just because I was a participant at practice
- 43:08Speaker 1: and got to meet the guys and talk to the coach.
- 43:11Speaker 1: I watched it. It's humming and it's August first, so
- 43:15Speaker 1: I'm super excited about the Rams. We went back to
- 43:18Speaker 1: the hotel afterwards. I had like I think, I got like,
- 43:22Speaker 1: you know, what's the right there. There's a little I
- 43:26Speaker 1: wish I knew the fast food place. I got like
- 43:28Speaker 1: fast food. I got like a grilled chicken sandwich. It
- 43:29Speaker 1: was delicious. I went to bed, woke up the next day,
- 43:34Speaker 1: and that brings us to here where I did the
- 43:36Speaker 1: show at two forty five am, wake up, took a flight,
- 43:38Speaker 1: came back, did the show this morning, and then we're
- 43:40Speaker 1: here Thursday, and I just was rambling on for forty
- 43:43Speaker 1: five minutes. But like those are like the whereabouts of
- 43:46Speaker 1: Peter Schreger. Why this podcast is what it is and
- 43:49Speaker 1: it's the season with Peter Schregar. But my Rams takeaways,
- 43:52Speaker 1: Nakula Cup healthy, Stafford looking in great shape. The offense
- 43:58Speaker 1: is going to be fire this year. If the defense
- 44:01Speaker 1: can stop anyone, they're going to be fine. And like
- 44:04Speaker 1: no one's talking about the Rams. Was about the Niners
- 44:07Speaker 1: and the Lions. But like the Rams, I don't know.
- 44:10Speaker 1: They were a surprise team last year. They bring everybody
- 44:13Speaker 1: basically back except for Aaron Donald, and I think the
- 44:16Speaker 1: offense is going to be haunted. I had a couple
- 44:26Speaker 1: other thoughts if I can give them, just to wrap
- 44:29Speaker 1: up the podcast. If you want three rapid fire thoughts,
- 44:31Speaker 1: you want to hear them.
- 44:32Speaker 2: Boom, let's go.
- 44:34Speaker 1: First off, Giants Hard Knocks. I did the podcast with them,
- 44:38Speaker 1: with those guys the NFL asked if I wanted to
- 44:40Speaker 1: do a podcast just like recap, like I thought it
- 44:43Speaker 1: was awesome. Did you watch the Giants five episodes of
- 44:46Speaker 1: Giants Hard Knocks off season? Yeah?
- 44:48Speaker 2: Loved it, loved it. Probably my favorite off season content
- 44:55Speaker 2: maybe ever, Like.
- 44:56Speaker 1: Honestly, I do my favorite Hard Knocks season. Yes, hunperbolic
- 45:01Speaker 1: because NFL Films takes such pride, and HUA takes such
- 45:03Speaker 1: pride and then we're like going in. I thought for
- 45:07Speaker 1: sure this was gonna be just roses and rainbows and
- 45:10Speaker 1: there'll be no conflict and we're not gonna learn anything.
- 45:12Speaker 1: It's just gonna be Look how great the Giants are,
- 45:14Speaker 1: and look how smart this draft pick was right out
- 45:17Speaker 1: of the gates. We have contentious stuff with Sakuan, which
- 45:19Speaker 1: I loved, and I think that's gonna be film that
- 45:22Speaker 1: we go back on for the entire season if he
- 45:24Speaker 1: blows up and is awesome. In Philly, they go through
- 45:27Speaker 1: their free agent process and it's like Robert Hunt is
- 45:29Speaker 1: one of our top free agents, and like we're really
- 45:31Speaker 1: targeting Robert Hunt and Christian Wilkins is one of our
- 45:33Speaker 1: top free agents, and like they didn't get those guys.
- 45:36Speaker 1: They went for him and did not get them. I
- 45:37Speaker 1: love that they actually showed it. And then they had
- 45:40Speaker 1: the three wide receivers in at the same time, and
- 45:43Speaker 1: it's like, we're gonna say on camera that like might
- 45:46Speaker 1: grow them wide receivers carded like Neighbors above Harrison, which
- 45:50Speaker 1: I don't know anybody else who had that, and then
- 45:52Speaker 1: you know, Shannon Dable pretty much back them up like
- 45:54Speaker 1: Neighbors before Harrison. That didn't end up being a Neighbor's
- 45:57Speaker 1: pick over Harrison. But if Harrison was still on the
- 45:59Speaker 1: board and Neighbors still the board, it looks like they
- 46:01Speaker 1: still were taking Neighbors. And the last part about it,
- 46:04Speaker 1: for all the talk we had of JJ mccarr going
- 46:06Speaker 1: to the Giants, and I had them there going in
- 46:08Speaker 1: my mock draft, the first mock draft I had changed
- 46:10Speaker 1: and I had mended in relative for all that talk,
- 46:14Speaker 1: he was never really a part of the equation. It
- 46:16Speaker 1: was they would trade up for Jaden Daniels, they would
- 46:19Speaker 1: trade up for Drake May. No one wanted to trade down,
- 46:22Speaker 1: or they would take Neighbors or Harrison and or brock Bowers,
- 46:25Speaker 1: which seemed to be a possibility if it came that way,
- 46:28Speaker 1: or a doone's day.
- 46:29Speaker 2: So but that was close. That was my favorite part
- 46:32Speaker 2: where they were like, if one, two three goes this day,
- 46:35Speaker 2: we will go these choices, and if Neighbors is gone,
- 46:38Speaker 2: we will consider trading down to take Rome or Bowers.
- 46:43Speaker 2: But like I loved hearing them break down those first
- 46:46Speaker 2: ten picks because we all in the audience and the
- 46:49Speaker 2: media had gone through that ourselves of what's going to
- 46:51Speaker 2: happen one through ten, nobody goes and so it was
- 46:54Speaker 2: so enlightening to watch that. That was one of my
- 46:58Speaker 2: one of the highlights of the show for sure.
- 47:00Speaker 1: And Aaron, what was cruel about it is we know
- 47:02Speaker 1: the result, Like we know they end up with neighbors,
- 47:06Speaker 1: but I would think going in like I don't really
- 47:09Speaker 1: care that much about like you know how they got there,
- 47:11Speaker 1: Yes they were, but along the way, you're like still
- 47:14Speaker 1: in your head, like whoo they might trade up for
- 47:16Speaker 1: Drake May Like you still are like in your head
- 47:18Speaker 1: like this might happen. So I thought it was great.
- 47:20Speaker 1: And they're going flipping the script and they're going right
- 47:23Speaker 1: to the Bears. And from what I'm told, there's someone
- 47:25Speaker 1: with Jonathan Owens right now as he's watching someone Biles
- 47:28Speaker 1: in Paris, and we've got the Hall of Fame game
- 47:30Speaker 1: and we got Caleb like I'm excited for hard knocks.
- 47:33Speaker 1: All right, move that to the side. That's one thing.
- 47:36Speaker 1: Second thing, all right, the second part of it. In
- 47:40Speaker 1: New York Giants are obviously a topic Jets, Jets Mania, Jets.
- 47:47Speaker 1: I will be at Jets camp on Monday, and I
- 47:51Speaker 1: will be at Giants camp on Tuesday, So we'll record
- 47:55Speaker 1: a pod maybe Wednesday or Tuesday afternoon, and I think
- 47:58Speaker 1: we'll recap my two days with those guys. My last
- 48:02Speaker 1: thing that I wanted to bring up, my last point
- 48:04Speaker 1: before we wrap for this week as we can all
- 48:07Speaker 1: of my personal travels out of the way. Is this
- 48:11Speaker 1: ongoing thing about the Cowboys and their fans not showing
- 48:16Speaker 1: up to ox nerd California. Now this is a small
- 48:19Speaker 1: sports media thing, but I saw McAfee talking about it
- 48:21Speaker 1: with Lombardi, I saw Jane Slater way and so the
- 48:24Speaker 1: Cowboys have always practiced out in Oxnard, California for training camp,
- 48:29Speaker 1: and this year attendance numbers have been sparse, and a
- 48:32Speaker 1: lot of the initial reaction is that it's, you know,
- 48:35Speaker 1: people are over the Cowboys. They lost to Green Bay.
- 48:38Speaker 1: They don't have Dak resign, they don't have CD Lamb resigned,
- 48:41Speaker 1: they don't have Micah Parsons resign, and like people are
- 48:44Speaker 1: over it, and Cowboys fans are like, unless you sign
- 48:46Speaker 1: those guys, We're not going to go and spend all
- 48:49Speaker 1: this money to go travel out to training camp. That's
- 48:51Speaker 1: been the media take, and I respect it, and a
- 48:53Speaker 1: lot of that might be true. I'm just gonna give
- 48:56Speaker 1: you an alternative take on this, and it might be
- 48:59Speaker 1: a little bit more Pro League or pro you know
- 49:02Speaker 1: the other teams, and maybe I'm just drinking that California
- 49:05Speaker 1: swee sweet California water. The Rams had a really, really
- 49:10Speaker 1: good season last year. They have a really good team.
- 49:13Speaker 1: They have gone to the playoffs in five the last
- 49:16Speaker 1: six years. Their fan experience at training camp was freaking
- 49:21Speaker 1: awesome when I went, and it's in Manhattan Beach, not Oxnard.
- 49:26Speaker 1: If you're in Los Angeles and you need a football
- 49:28Speaker 1: fix and you're not one of these Cowboys crazies, like
- 49:31Speaker 1: I think you might want to just support the home team,
- 49:34Speaker 1: like yes back in the day, going to Oxtar to
- 49:37Speaker 1: the thing because there wasn't football in LA, and there
- 49:39Speaker 1: wasn't a good team in LA, and it was like,
- 49:42Speaker 1: here's our one glimpse of NFL football. It's the Cowboys
- 49:45Speaker 1: out in Oxnar, which has been an hour away from LA,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and it's like, I'm gonna go and sit in one
- 49:49Speaker 1: hundred degree heat because I want to see Terrell Owens
- 49:51Speaker 1: or I want to see Tony Romo and it's like
- 49:53Speaker 1: my one opportunity to see football this year. Not only
- 49:57Speaker 1: are the Rams a relevant team, You've got Harbaugh and
- 50:00Speaker 1: the Chargers now who are having practices right there in
- 50:04Speaker 1: like Manhattan Beach at the Bolt, which their new facility,
- 50:07Speaker 1: which is supposed to be insane. My colleige Kyle Brandt went.
- 50:10Speaker 1: And then the Saints are also in La there at
- 50:15Speaker 1: you see Irvine, I believe, and they're practicing at where
- 50:18Speaker 1: the Rams used to do their training camp. So you
- 50:19Speaker 1: have three other options than the Cowboys. And yeah, maybe
- 50:23Speaker 1: the lusters off the Cowboys a little bit, but they're
- 50:25Speaker 1: still going to be a favorite in the NFC East.
- 50:28Speaker 1: They're still gonna be a Super Bowl pick for a
- 50:30Speaker 1: lot of teams, a lot of people in the media.
- 50:33Speaker 1: But like it used to be the only show in
- 50:34Speaker 1: town out in LA. My argument is that maybe the
- 50:37Speaker 1: numbers are down because A it's not as convenient as
- 50:40Speaker 1: these other places. B. The Rams and Chargers are like
- 50:43Speaker 1: really relevant teams. And see the Saints are there too,
- 50:46Speaker 1: so I can't get as worked up about the Cowboys
- 50:49Speaker 1: not having the attendance numbers they used to. Is the
- 50:53Speaker 1: luster off the Star, I don't know. We'll see in
- 50:55Speaker 1: the regular season. I'm pretty sure they're gonna be the
- 50:57Speaker 1: hottest team and the team that we're talking about the most.
- 51:00Speaker 2: All right, So later the season, We're gonna do an
- 51:03Speaker 2: episode live from Soho House mal with Cooper Manning and uh,
- 51:09Speaker 2: we'll debate whether or not cowboys are are still in
- 51:12Speaker 2: it or not.
- 51:13Speaker 1: Quick note, as I'm at that Soho House Malibu, which
- 51:16Speaker 1: I don't know geography of LA. It's far from everything,
- 51:19Speaker 1: but it's up the Pacific Coast Highway also known as
- 51:21Speaker 1: the p H. There was a giant cowboys bus parked
- 51:28Speaker 1: in front of Nobu in Malibu, and that's where Stephen
- 51:32Speaker 1: and Jerry Jones are having dinner. And that's where the
- 51:34Speaker 1: cowboys brass. That's how they travel. They drive in a
- 51:36Speaker 1: huge bus and they just parked it in front of Nobu,
- 51:38Speaker 1: which is like the hottest restaurant. So the cowboys were there.
- 51:41Speaker 1: Don't worry.
- 51:44Speaker 2: How did you get in? So as long as someone you're.
- 51:47Speaker 1: With is.
- 51:51Speaker 2: Yeah, we we just got to get you a membership
- 51:56Speaker 2: and then I can come in with you. That's absolutely
- 51:58Speaker 2: That's something LA like. I'm going to be there a lot.
- 52:01Speaker 2: Do I go for it all? Do I try to
- 52:03Speaker 2: be a member of a golf club? Do I try
- 52:05Speaker 2: to be a member of Soho House?
- 52:06Speaker 1: I start hanging around at all these fancy restaurants, So
- 52:09Speaker 1: I have to have lunch. Do you want to do
- 52:11Speaker 1: lunch at the Ivy? Do I say, that's still the place,
- 52:13Speaker 1: the Ivy, that was the place forever. But like I
- 52:15Speaker 1: don't know, do I go all in and lean in
- 52:16Speaker 1: on the la or do I roll with like you know,
- 52:19Speaker 1: the collect the marryout points and be smart and be
- 52:22Speaker 1: frugal and just get in and get out. What would
- 52:24Speaker 1: you say? What's more entertaining for the podcast?
- 52:26Speaker 2: Does Soho House have a padel court?
- 52:28Speaker 1: No, but they should, Like the lack of padel in
- 52:31Speaker 1: La is actually criminal. There's one in Silver Lake, which
- 52:34Speaker 1: is probably where you would live because it's the hipster
- 52:36Speaker 1: part of of California and it's more like Mark Marin Roles,
- 52:39Speaker 1: But there's no padel in like La Proper, which is
- 52:43Speaker 1: like just ridiculous. One atrocity.
- 52:47Speaker 2: Maybe you get in like you're the business partner to
- 52:49Speaker 2: start padel at Soho House. You start bringing it up there.
- 52:54Speaker 2: I know places in San Diego, like I said with
- 52:56Speaker 2: my friend Chris, but yeah, I haven't played it in
- 52:59Speaker 2: La at all. You might be this might be the
- 53:01Speaker 2: side gig. You know, you have plenty of time for us.
- 53:04Speaker 1: We're gonna play in Brooklyn. I wonder if we can
- 53:05Speaker 1: do pod from Padel House in Brooklyn. We bring the
- 53:09Speaker 1: equipment and just have like the snacking of the ball
- 53:11Speaker 1: against the wall in the background, and I was.
- 53:12Speaker 2: Just like, I played tennis with my mom this morning.
- 53:15Speaker 2: How do you do that?
- 53:16Speaker 1: Oh?
- 53:16Speaker 2: I got my ass kicks?
- 53:17Speaker 1: Yeah? Is good? So good?
- 53:19Speaker 2: Yeah yeah yeah.
- 53:20Speaker 1: When you say you're your ass kick, we're talking like
- 53:21Speaker 1: six two, six to one. Like what are we talking?
- 53:23Speaker 2: She just ram me all over the court.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:27Speaker 2: She was like yeah. She's like, uh, you got to
- 53:30Speaker 2: be a little more consistent and you'll get better.
- 53:32Speaker 1: And I was like, thank thanks for the tip. I
- 53:33Speaker 1: don't get to play every day at work. All right,
- 53:37Speaker 1: that's the pod tonight. There's gonna be a Hall of
- 53:39Speaker 1: Fame game. You're going to react. I think there's football
- 53:42Speaker 1: over the weekend. There might not be. There's practices for sure,
- 53:45Speaker 1: and then next week we'll have recaps from Jets and Giants.
- 53:47Speaker 1: If you're not in New York, you could just skip
- 53:49Speaker 1: that podcast. That's probably what the topic is going to
- 53:51Speaker 1: be for Aaron wand Kaufman, for all the folks in LA,
- 53:55Speaker 1: for all the folks in New York, for the ioheart team,
- 53:59Speaker 1: for for everybody involved. Thank you for listening, and I'll
- 54:02Speaker 1: have more fun, fabulous stories from my travels and the
- 54:05Speaker 1: months that come. The Season with Peter Schrager is a
