- 0:03[SPEAKER_00]: Hello, hello, hello.
- 0:04[SPEAKER_00]: And welcome to another edition of the nine or nois podcast, parts of the fancited podcast network.
- 0:08[SPEAKER_00]: My name is Robert Morrison, a contributor and nine or nois.com.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_00]: And here with me, fellow contributor, Mr. Oksha's Devadula, Oksha's.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: It is the post Thanksgiving holiday.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: We're back in the swing for the next couple of weeks.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: But how are you doing on this, this fine day?
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: I was pleasantly surprised, but what happened on the Sunday, and I have to say through the powers of, I believe, the transit of property, the 49ers are better than the Rams.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, I think that's correct.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's how it works, but doing good was a good game.
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was an interesting NFL week, lots of them, interesting results, but I think the 49ers,
- 1:01[SPEAKER_01]: adding it to their bio to feel pretty good about where they are.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, 100%.
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: It was a kind of a weird game in a lot of ways.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Like, and we'll talk about it in more detail, but the Niners get a 26 to 8 win over the Cleveland Browns.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: It is their second three game win streak of the season.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So far, I have a little bit of a little bit of a little bit.
- 1:26[SPEAKER_00]: three game win streak to start the season, a bunch of up and down stuff in the middle and then three, you know, since that, starting with the Cardinals game, hopefully it will run a little bit longer, but the other part of this of course is that as you alluded to the Rams lost to the
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: weirdly, and this feels very strange to say, the NFC West's division title is far from decided.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think the consensus would be still that the Rams are going to win it in the end, but, you know, it's not as much a foregone conclusion as I think other people, because that loss really opens things up for the 49ers who obviously have already played the Rams twice, but
- 2:23[SPEAKER_00]: they still have Seattle coming up in this who is not who is technically tied with with the rams at the top of the division.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: So things are about to get really interesting here in the last six weeks of the season and they'll be really interesting to see how that how that plays out.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_00]: But an unexpected outcome that I think the 49ers and their fans would be quite thrilled about.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: I think I was taking a look at it basically what you want to have happened I think.
- 2:50[SPEAKER_01]: is if the Niners went out and the Seahawks beat the the Rams.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 2:57[SPEAKER_01]: The Rams, the 49ers will win.
- 2:59[SPEAKER_01]: Let us see West.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yep, which is, which is, you know, crazy.
- 3:04[SPEAKER_01]: It's pretty crazy.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_01]: Given the way, the season is gone.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: And generally speaking, right, the Niners are a gameback, but
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: they will.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, all of this requires them beating the seahawks, so.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_01]: Assuming they beat the seahawks, the Rams just need to drop, I think, one game.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: And ostensibly, the 49ers will won't be the ones taking, taking the NFC West.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_01]: So long as like the Niners match wins with the seahawks.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_01]: So it's hard.
- 3:39[SPEAKER_01]: But it's definitely doable, which I think given the way the season is gone is impressive a testament to the coaching, to the players and just like there's a seventh seed right now yet somehow I feel like there's such a good place to keep out the playoffs, which is great to it's a great thing given the way the season looked like as you said like three weeks ago
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, and it's hard to make an argument.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think the rams are still, you know, pretty much, I mean, because even in the loss, they played pretty well, their offense was their offense, Matthew Safford just kind of had a bad day.
- 4:27[SPEAKER_00]: You know, two interceptions lost the fumble at the end of the game.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: Panthers really got aggressive, you know, when they needed to,
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: 30 plus yard touchdown passes on fourth down So they did the things that a team that is less talented than the other team needs to do in order to pull off a game like that But you know, that's what that's the job done, but like you look and I think it's just a kind of testament to Like the whole league is kind of messy this year, right?
- 4:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like there's no team they're like, oh, they're just gonna run through this whole thing like
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you'd say the Rams are in that conversation to be really close there, but obviously they have their flaws.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: The Niners are good team, but they're really injured, the Seahawks, you don't really know what to make at them, sometimes they have their good things about them, but they also struggle with in certain things and then you go across the AFC and you're like, well there's no team like the the cults for the number one scene the AFC for a bunch of for like the first what eight weeks the season and now they might not even win that division like it's just it's just kind of wild like how
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: wide open in some ways, the NFL is right now.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: And I think we said this a couple of weeks ago, like it makes it all the more frustrating the Niners are not fully healthy because you kind of look at the season and go, man, if like Fred Warner and Nick Boes over here, like this team could certainly make a run and go to the Super Bowl.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: And when the thing, because there's not like a team that's makes you go, oh, they can't, they can't take this team on.
- 6:01[SPEAKER_00]: It makes it more difficult, but gosh, it's starting to get real fun, huh?
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, in just to like indulge myself and also hopefully all of us collectively, the defense is the defense, right?
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: And it's, it just doesn't have the high end talent that like you would hope, but there's nothing about the 49ers that like says screams to me, oh, they're like,
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like I think they can put up a fight against every team in the NFL and like you put them on What is technically?
- 6:40[SPEAKER_01]: Technically in like a like an even field, but it wouldn't be what actually be their own field against any team in the air sea and I would not feel uncomfortable picking the nanners to win that game
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I think, as you said, that's in part because the NFL is so topsy-turvy and in part because the 49ers have sort of just proven that they can take care of business.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_01]: Obviously, like, they've played some bad teams.
- 7:06[SPEAKER_01]: Now, one of those bad teams did feed the Rams.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, who's good, who's bad who knows exactly.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_01]: But, like, it's not exactly as the
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: but they like, walk through murderers row and came out, like undefeated.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_01]: They might have to do that if they need to win the NFC West as we've sort of mentioned with them, probably having to win out where at the very least matching pace with the Rams and the Seahawks.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't know what, they haven't enough talent on the roster to where, in the playoffs, you put them against any team
- 7:43[SPEAKER_01]: I like, I'm not walking away convinced that they're going to lose that game, especially if they like, and fingers crossed, not done wood, whatever, like whatever superstitious thing we need to do.
- 7:58[SPEAKER_01]: So long as the injury situation trends upwards and not downward, I think they might like they're doing this with the third string line back here, you know, like,
- 8:10[SPEAKER_01]: middle line back here, basically no defensive line, even by their already like depleted standards.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they're just like, they're chunking the line.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_01]: So if they can keep on, if they can get some of those pieces back, and the defense can inch closer to like, middle of the road, then I really do think they might have a shot.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: I like it.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: I love you.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: I appreciate your optimism.
- 8:33[SPEAKER_00]: It's great.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's fantastic.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_00]: Keep it up.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: Long may continue.
- 8:36[SPEAKER_00]: I guess we'll go ahead and since you mentioned the injury thing, we'll just go ahead and skip ahead to that part because it needs to be mentioned.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: Three players come out of this one with injury concerns.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_00]: Nick Barton will be in the concussion protocol.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if there's a time to be in the question protocol, I guess this is the this is the time right because he's got two weeks until the next game with the by week coming up next week.
- 9:00[SPEAKER_00]: He's I think acquitted himself well as a as a special teams player so it'll be good to.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully, you see him get healthy.
- 9:09[SPEAKER_00]: Kyle, you check left the game with a rib injury.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: It didn't seem like, I think the tests were negative for any break or anything like that, which would be the real concern there.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: Frankly, I'm not really sure how most, how like football players don't break their ribs like constantly, like putting them in a contact that in the sport, but you'd think like the ribs would be a easy shot, but who knows?
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: So hopefully he'll just be like,
- 9:35[SPEAKER_00]: a management thing just rest up and he'll be able to go the one sort of relatively major injury Ben Bartch and this just and was announced relatively recently he left the game with a foot injury and is apparently a lens-fract lens-frenk injury and so he's going to miss the rest of the season with that
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: kind of pretty tough break for Bartsch, who just seems to play decently when he's on the field, but the problem is he just can't seem to stay on the field and Spencer Burford.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: I think acquitted himself pretty well in the left guard position on Sunday when he was when he was at tasked with taking over the position and it's maybe a thing where Bartsch just can't stay healthy and that's going to end up costing him his opportunity to to be a dependable starter in this league,
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: not a, not a terrible injury position coming out of that game, I think.
- 10:32[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I mean, and because they're heading it to the buy, I think, sort of the benefit is all of these and all of the lingering things that maybe aren't like popping up on the engine reporter, but are still there.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_01]: Everything gets extra time to heal, which is really, really important for this team because like, they are.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_01]: You know, not to look ahead too much, but after this game against the Titans like it's cut out to the metal for the rest of the season.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_01]: And giving the way the NFL sort of shaping up like that's going to matter, right?
- 11:08[SPEAKER_01]: You should one of those games is in a way a defective play off getting for them.
- 11:13[SPEAKER_01]: And like that's high stakes, but they've done this before, right?
- 11:17[SPEAKER_01]: The lots of players were different, but in 2021.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: They were playing playoff games basically the whole way through and yeah they won all of them except the final one they lost but we're not going to talk about that because we're happy and we're excited and we're going to work to the rest of the season so we're not going to mention that game but uh going is like it's going to be high stress and like you know the culture kind of formed a little bit they're still a good team the bears are the number one seeding the NFC so that comment not
- 11:52[SPEAKER_01]: I'm sure there was someone who was convinced Ben Johnson was like the secret set.
- 11:58[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe it's maybe it's maybe it's but So those guys are That's gonna be a challenge and then of course Seattle, so like and I'm sure there's someone I'm missing and I'm missing someone that's it that's it's just Titan Titan's gold spares See hox that's it
- 12:15[SPEAKER_01]: And Titans, you know, they played the Seahawks close at the end.
- 12:18[SPEAKER_01]: So, not a gimme, got to get up and get ready for that one.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_01]: Just like, four games, lots of variation for what can happen.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_01]: But, and it will be great if like everyone in the NFC West lost this week.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_01]: They'll just be ideal, not probably not gonna happen.
- 12:34[SPEAKER_01]: But, you got to, like, it's go time.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_01]: A lot of the things have sort of gel together really well.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_01]: And I read this like article and athletic from Victor for who I thought made like use like sort of like
- 12:56[SPEAKER_01]: of race that I really liked was like the 49ers are blissfully like ignorant and then he wrote blissfully arrogant that and I like it.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: I think that encapsulates this team very well right now.
- 13:10[SPEAKER_01]: They're ignorant of the fact that they're not supposed to be here and get no other injuries and they're arrogant because they are.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_01]: they think they can do it regardless of what's going on and I think that's the mentality they need to have and it's really good to see them sort of like take that mantle as the as we're getting closer to the end of the season.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_00]: A great, a great um all right couple of notes about this win over the Browns
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: I'm not sure if you're aware of this, but this is the first time they've won in Cleveland since November of 1984.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: As I said, in the 90's Slack during the game, I was six months old when that happened.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: Now, here's the small caveat there, I'm sure.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: They haven't won there since 1984, and that's all cool and everything.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: But the problem is,
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: do you know the number of times they've been to Cleveland since 1984?
- 14:02[SPEAKER_01]: It's like four.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, four times.
- 14:05[SPEAKER_00]: And two of them, the well, there was the 2023 game that they lost.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: That was that stupid game.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think that was the Jake Moody field goal miss.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: Uh, shoot.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: I was just, I was just, I just heard the list.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_00]: So it was like 95.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: So they didn't even go back between 1984 and like 1995.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_00]: So there was a, like,
- 14:31[SPEAKER_00]: 11 year gap there and then they didn't go back good 11 year gap.
- 14:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, and then they didn't even go back again until like the 2000s.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: So like it's a 41 year period.
- 14:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, but it's also before it's four losses, but that said it's still good.
- 14:50[SPEAKER_00]: I think specifically given the nature of the fact that we, you know, we didn't do a preview, but I'm sure if we'd done a preview episode, we would have talked a lot about, you know, Jim Schwartz and that defense.
- 15:01[SPEAKER_00]: not not Jim Schwartz himself, but like the that whole that that that tree right of of defense, like they just give, it just gives Kyle Shanahan fits for some reason.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: I like there's just some of these defenses and it's you know, Stephanski and what's
- 15:30[SPEAKER_00]: Kevin Spansky, the, the, the, the, the roundscope.
- 15:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, when they were, I think that's, I think that's right.
- 15:38[SPEAKER_00]: And the same kind of problem, like they went, that defense was really good and they gave Shanahan fits and, you know, over a couple of seasons when they played them a couple of years in a row.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_00]: And it's just like, like this, for just, for some reason, this, this defense just makes it difficult for Shanahan.
- 15:53[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm sure we would've talked about, like, how that's gonna be a problem and all that kind of stuff.
- 15:57[SPEAKER_00]: It's only their first, their first win there in 41 years, but it's only four times, but it is very interesting to see that.
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: This is also the most points that the Browns have given up at home this season, the 26th, so pretty important thing to note there.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_00]: One thing I was thinking about during the game is it's really funny, and you don't see this very frequently.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: that an organization gets one side of the ball so very right all the time and yet just seems completely inept on the other side of the ball.
- 16:38[SPEAKER_00]: But it's very funny.
- 16:39[SPEAKER_00]: Like for as bad as the Browns have been really since they came back.
- 16:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like going back to whenever that was the, you know, late 90s or early 2000s when when they when they came back to the NFL,
- 16:55[SPEAKER_00]: For some reason I just generally think of them as being just completely bad or they have like this really good defense, but can't score points, and it's just very funny.
- 17:05[SPEAKER_00]: I just can't think of another example of an organization that's just like, oh, we're like super good on one side of the ball, but absolutely can't accomplish anything on the other side, and it's just this total imbalance that is bizarre to me and I don't understand how they get it so badly.
- 17:25[SPEAKER_00]: or it's so bad all the time.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like, it's been, it's so odd because their defense has been like, there are teams in the NFL, basically, every team I think in the NFL, most of the team would like.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_01]: give up everything to have that defense for like that defense could what that defense is good enough to win a Super Bowl right if like there was just like competency not even like good like I'm thinking like Super Bowl 50 Broncos or or the Ravens when when Jennifer was there yeah like it's that good and they just
- 18:10[SPEAKER_01]: For whatever reason, it absolutely has never like, it clicked maybe like twice once so far, would Baker may feel a little bit and then they like cut babe and just like organizational malpractice.
- 18:28[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Miles Garrett is gonna, yeah.
- 18:31[SPEAKER_01]: He might be the greatest past Russia in NFL history at the end of his career and have played in like one playoff game.
- 18:39[SPEAKER_01]: It's insane, just negligence, with every bad, just bad, that's all the words I have.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's just bad.
- 18:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and it is crazy like how they get it so right on defense and so wrong on offense at the same exact time.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_00]: And you know, you could sort of like squint and see
- 19:04[SPEAKER_00]: some pieces on this offense.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, we'll talk.
- 19:07[SPEAKER_00]: I'm sure we'll talk about some of their some of their offensive successes in air quotes when we get into the game.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: But it's clearly holding the, I mean, it's holding the whole organization back.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_00]: The fact that they've, I mean, the running joke of that, that store and Cleveland had all the, that had the jersey with all the, the names of their quarterbacks that they've had.
- 19:31[SPEAKER_00]: since they've been back and it's just like, just, you know, reaching the floor, it's so long.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: Just like they haven't been able to even get like outside of that one, maybe that one season with Baker.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_01]: It's been in the world of Flacco.
- 19:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, but that one, and even that, it's just like, okay.
- 19:51[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the fact that they got
- 19:57[SPEAKER_00]: Like one good one pretty good season out of the number one pick that they they took out of the number of times that they've had the opportunity to do it as a quarterback and then at the other one was just like a journeyman an old guy journeyman who was nobody else wanted anymore and they were like, well, I guess we'll use them.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: These will be good, um, it's kind of interesting to me how they how they managed to do that.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Kevin's defense is one two and I felt coach of the year awards because they he's made the playoffs with a team that is so bad, that like, with like, with an offense that is so bad, the, like, electors have been like, oh, like, they he must win because how could they have made the playoffs?
- 20:44[SPEAKER_01]: Well, that's how, like,
- 20:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's, it's not to rag on the browns.
- 20:51[SPEAKER_01]: It's a little too though.
- 20:54[SPEAKER_01]: A little too.
- 20:55[SPEAKER_01]: I, it's so disappointing because there's a football fan right like.
- 21:01[SPEAKER_01]: That defense is fun.
- 21:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's a fun defense, right?
- 21:05[SPEAKER_01]: It sucks when your team's playing again, but I would love to see that defense be like supported by an offense.
- 21:11[SPEAKER_01]: And like let those players like play on the big stage, right?
- 21:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it's just, it's not gonna happen.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's just not gonna happen.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: And I think that there is,
- 21:24[SPEAKER_01]: They're like doing that youth movement on offense, and as we'll talk about, there were ups and downs and you know, they got a little bit going on some elements of like their offense, but thick
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: They're they're defense like just like to bring it back to like the game that happened on Sunday I thought their defense played well enough to win the football game the score obviously is a little Wopsided and we'll get into why that's the case.
- 21:54[SPEAKER_01]: That was a winning effort by their defense But their offense and special teams was just a bismal in basically after the
- 22:07[SPEAKER_01]: After oh 17 eight, I had there was an absolutely no worry in my mind that the 49ers were going to like lose that the only concern I think that possibly came to my mind was that, um, oh, like it brought pretty throws it like kicks.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_01]: Like it was literally the deep the defense was going to have to do something for them.
- 22:35[SPEAKER_01]: It was just not even, not even a concern whatsoever.
- 22:39[SPEAKER_01]: So I mean, it's just an interesting, it's such an interesting team to play when that sort of the perspective you have is just, yeah, like, as long as you don't mess up, but just as long as time is ticking on the clock, you have no worries about what their offense is gonna do.
- 22:55[SPEAKER_01]: And that's a little, that's crazy.
- 22:57[SPEAKER_01]: That's like, that is crazy.
- 22:59[SPEAKER_01]: And it's disappointing, I think.
- 23:01[SPEAKER_01]: Your Browns fan, and if you're a football fan,
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I mean, I would say the only time that I felt a little concerned was when they scored their touchdown.
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: And suddenly, you know, it was really weird and ugly kind of first half and, you know, the first half was kind of like, this is what we expect what I expected the game to be like, it was going to be difficult for the Niners to do anything.
- 23:25[SPEAKER_00]: I also figured it was going to be difficult for the Browns to do anything like offensively.
- 23:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I was expecting a pretty low scoring defensive struggle kind of game.
- 23:36[SPEAKER_00]: And at time, like, I don't know, in the back of my head, I was like, I don't know, can they win this game seven or nothing?
- 23:41[SPEAKER_00]: Is that possible?
- 23:42[SPEAKER_00]: I guess it could be, right?
- 23:44[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you know, you're thinking that in your head, like, are they gonna be able to score again if they do?
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: Like, that kind of, like, I don't know if the Browns are gonna score, like, up to that point out that's kind of what I was thinking.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: And then they did score and now I'm like, okay, well, now I'm a little concerned, because now I'm worried that even if the Browns don't score again,
- 24:02[SPEAKER_00]: that given what the way that the first half had gone up to that point, I'm a little worried, like, okay, well, the Niners are not are gonna have trouble scoring again, right?
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: So to me, and this we can use this as kind of like the main, the launching point into the conversation about the game, specifically, like that drive.
- 24:25[SPEAKER_00]: at the end of the first half to get that field goal was the absolute turning point of the game.
- 24:31[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like that built the Niners offense confidence wise.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_00]: It was like probably the most comfortable that Brock Perri looks, you know, in a game of half, and
- 24:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, the field goal was kind of ugly, but, you know, it was kicking into the wind and all that kind of stuff.
- 24:51[SPEAKER_00]: But as soon as they took that lead, I was like, oh, okay, we're good.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_00]: And that was the last time I thought about whether or not the Browns had a chance to win.
- 25:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think the stop coming out of, yeah, coming get cause, cause they drive down there like, okay, like maybe this defense is sort of starting to finally fall apart, you know.
- 25:11[SPEAKER_01]: But that stop afterwards, I was like, okay, like,
- 25:16[SPEAKER_01]: They're fine.
- 25:17[SPEAKER_01]: And they were just, it just won't bring that.
- 25:19[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, like.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, probably of the game.
- 25:22[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we'll talk about it.
- 25:24[SPEAKER_01]: But that drive was beautiful.
- 25:27[SPEAKER_01]: It was perfect.
- 25:28[SPEAKER_01]: That's exactly what like 42nd drill should look like or like minute drill.
- 25:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it was like 36 seconds or some like that.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_00]: If it had been 40 seconds, they could have made a tie.
- 25:39[SPEAKER_00]: They could have tried to try to
- 25:44[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I was just glad to see that level of aggression from Kyle Shanahan.
- 25:49[SPEAKER_00]: I was like 36 seconds.
- 25:51[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, so did you see in the post game?
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: He was like, yeah, I didn't even want to really do it.
- 25:55[SPEAKER_01]: But I figured we'll just, like, we'll see what happens.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: And then that that feels right.
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: Well, and then they threw two incompletions.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_00]: And I was like, gosh, like, good.
- 26:04[SPEAKER_00]: That's what we're doing.
- 26:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like in my head, I'm taking, they're going to give the ball back to the, to the Browns with like a little bit of time left.
- 26:12[SPEAKER_00]: Not like they would have done anything with it.
- 26:15[SPEAKER_00]: And then Ricky catches the ball and I'm like, oh, okay, now we're got, now we got something and then John got it and it's like, oh, okay, now we're moving.
- 26:22[SPEAKER_00]: And then George gets his catch and I'm like, oh, okay, there we go.
- 26:26[SPEAKER_00]: But yeah, I think that was the moment that sort of like set the game and at that point between getting that field goal and taking the lead back and then like you said like stopping them when they made the decision to take the ball to start the game.
- 26:42[SPEAKER_00]: the the nine or state that making in that regard they didn't give themselves the opportunity to like double up at the end at the end of the half in the beginning of the next half, but they kind of essentially did because they you know made that early stop and and it turned out to be you know there was a lot of having you know a lot of hand-wringing and stuff about that that brown stripe or you know they just ran it down their throats and you know
- 27:05[SPEAKER_00]: It turned out to be more of a blip, but we'll talk about that more in just a minute as we get into the game in more detail.
- 27:13[SPEAKER_00]: So let's go ahead and get deeper into the game then that this important win over the Browns and we'll do that with our one-up one-down segments and our as per usual that is brought to you by our friends over at Underdog Fantasy.

- 29:15[SPEAKER_00]: Take a breath.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's okay.
- 29:17[SPEAKER_00]: Well done.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 29:20[SPEAKER_00]: Do you feel ready to take on the up section to start us up?
- 29:24[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, because I'm very all you talk about this up because it's an up I said last week I think and I cannot believe I'm seeing get again, but I think it's more true now.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I did not believe in any point in my life.
- 29:36[SPEAKER_01]: I would say this two weeks in a row.
- 29:39[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, I mean, it is true.
- 29:40[SPEAKER_01]: Special teams won the game for the 49ers and like
- 29:45[SPEAKER_01]: That is crazy to say, out loud on this podcast.
- 29:49[SPEAKER_01]: I cannot believe I'm saying that.
- 29:51[SPEAKER_01]: But really, like, you can quibble about like, was it the nine or special teams being really good?
- 29:57[SPEAKER_01]: Was it the Brown special teams being kind of bad?
- 30:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, I guess, exactly.
- 30:04[SPEAKER_01]: Bit of both, I mean, like, look, the weather was weird.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_01]: The wind was really bad.
- 30:08[SPEAKER_01]: That's what the broadcast was saying.
- 30:10[SPEAKER_01]: And one team took care of it and one team didn't.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: for basically the history of me being a 49er's fan, the team that is not taking care of it, has always been the 49ers.
- 30:23[SPEAKER_01]: So it's super cool to see beyond the other side.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Skymore has really turned it on as a returner, which I love to see.
- 30:32[SPEAKER_01]: It would be great if he had just, I don't know, like two more seconds in his head.
- 30:37[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I know.
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: He's so close.
- 30:40[SPEAKER_00]: You could see it on his face at the end of that.
- 30:42[SPEAKER_00]: He's like, cool boy.
- 30:45[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, but like he's doing it this minute, he's going to like one of these is going going to the house and I mean, like These are big deal plays like in a game like that against a defense like that Those plays matter map game making that ugly looking field goal with the wind it all over swirling around really important just like
- 31:10[SPEAKER_01]: Doing the fundamentals well, and then adding the splash police, right?
- 31:14[SPEAKER_01]: The partner trans flash play, but they're like coverage on the brand's kickoffs really good.
- 31:20[SPEAKER_01]: Getting that muffed pun, splash play, like that was in something the 49ers just like did really well.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: But there's plenty of times they've not been in positions to take advantage of that and I if I remember correctly, I think they forced to fumble on a kick off and weren't unable to recover it so yes they did yes so.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_01]: your boy.
- 31:53[SPEAKER_01]: But that's like, I mean, special teams did really well.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: And I think so much of how the 49 is able to win this game is because of short fields and so much of that was because of their special teams play.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: And their defense too, which I'm sure you'll probably mention.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: But um,
- 32:12[SPEAKER_01]: I like, I was very impressed with special teams.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think this is the edge, a team like this, that because of the injuries, just fundamentally cannot compete at the same level, right talent was that it used to be able to.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_01]: This is how teams, there's slightly less talent to make up that edge, just through like the third phase of the game, and it's been like two weeks of really encouraged and played for the 90s special teams.
- 32:38[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 32:40[SPEAKER_00]: I think I saw somewhere, they're literally like the most impactful.
- 32:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think it was by like points added or something like EPA or something like that.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: They're the the the best special teams in the NFL.
- 32:55[SPEAKER_00]: It's just like this is the same like the same unit that we spent the last two years talking about like gosh, if they could just be league,
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: League average, they'd be great, that'd be great.
- 33:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like this, this special teams was on the 20, 23, 49ers.
- 33:15[SPEAKER_00]: They win the Superb team.
- 33:16[SPEAKER_01]: We'll be talking about a Super Bowl champ, 100%.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 33:19[SPEAKER_01]: So that sucks.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry, Brian, I apologize.
- 33:23[SPEAKER_01]: But it's really oppressive and it's so different than what we see in just to like reiterate your point.
- 33:29[SPEAKER_01]: But yes, it's so good.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's like a worst of first situation.
- 33:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's just weird.
- 33:35[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, there we go.
- 33:39[SPEAKER_00]: All right, totally agree with all that.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_00]: I have a couple of things to to point out some, I'm doing the cheating thing.
- 33:47[SPEAKER_00]: First two names I don't want to mention, Cleo and Farrell and Keon White.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they were both excellent on Sunday against the Browns now.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_00]: That's not great.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're a little bit more a little less bad with Chudier Sanders at quarterback.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_00]: but it's still a low bar.
- 34:15[SPEAKER_00]: I include them, Farrell, nine total tackles, including two for loss on Sunday, two sacks, and Kean White, three total tackles, including one for loss, and one sack, they each also had two additional quarterback hits.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, like, in general, the past rush looked more impactful than it has,
- 34:39[SPEAKER_00]: in a while, but it was nice to see them get home, especially in the situations where they both did, where it was like, all right, you know, 30, 30, 30 down plays, like you can't let them get away, kind of things, like you got to keep a talented athlete, like Sanders in the pocket, and not let them get away.
- 34:57[SPEAKER_00]: and I thought they did a good job of kind of containing him in the pocket so on at a point those guys out specifically.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: But really I thought as we noted the defense in general was pretty good across the board.
- 35:10[SPEAKER_00]: The other thing in just sort of a
- 35:14[SPEAKER_00]: Like, this was not Brock Hardy's like best statistical game, but I thought it was a good and smart game from him.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think the, I'm sure you've seen this kind of rolling around.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_00]: He had six throwaways on Sunday, now he only had,
- 35:32[SPEAKER_00]: What's that?
- 35:34[SPEAKER_00]: He had 13 total in completions, six of which, so roughly half of them were worth just like there's nothing there.
- 35:42[SPEAKER_00]: I'm just going to throw the ball away, which I think over his previous four starts he had had seven total in those starts and he had six on Sunday.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_00]: So I think probably a concerted effort, you know, during the week to say,
- 35:56[SPEAKER_00]: hey like if you put the ball in harm's way this defense is going to take advantage of you in a way that like even we'll make the panthers look like like an easy walk in the fart kind of afternoon and so if it's not there like a throw away is not a bad outcome um you know getting the ball put in the ball in harm's way potentially is a bad outcome and that was
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: as we talked about that was the way that this, those about the only way the Browns are going to win, right?
- 36:22[SPEAKER_00]: Is if you gave them extra opportunities to score, or if you let the defense score, because you give the ball away, and I thought, you know, in a rather unlikely scenario, Brock Perty bounced back from a rough game here.
- 36:35[SPEAKER_00]: The Panthers and the D play is best game.
- 36:37[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm not saying that, but the fact that he was smart with ball, and he took care of it.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_00]: was good.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_00]: And so in that regard too, especially given the conditions and all the other things that were, you know, in the Browns defense.
- 36:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so I want to pair that a lot along with just saying like,
- 36:55[SPEAKER_00]: I thought, this kind of lines up with your special teams point, I thought the coaching staff did a really good job in all three phases of like getting this team prepared.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_00]: And I thought Kyle Shainan was particularly good on on on his side with the offense and just like, how do we make sure Miles Garrett doesn't ruin this game for us?
- 37:15[SPEAKER_00]: And, you know, he got his one sack and he was
- 37:18[SPEAKER_00]: But, you know, he caused some havoc in his own way, but he was certainly quieter than I think he's been in other games.
- 37:24[SPEAKER_00]: And I think Cheneyans pretty good at that.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_00]: Like we saw him do that a lot with Aaron Donald, where it's just like, hey, there's the guy that can really, like, just destroy this game if we let him.
- 37:35[SPEAKER_00]: So we're not gonna let him.
- 37:37[SPEAKER_00]: Um, now the Browns, as we've talked about, had players on all three levels that can do that for you, but Miles Garrett is the guy.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_00]: And so,
- 37:44[SPEAKER_00]: You know, Kudos to coaching staff in general, that really looked like they had a good game plan.
- 37:49[SPEAKER_00]: And there were certainly parts of it that didn't work at times.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I thought, all in all, they, they looked ready to take on this, this team.
- 37:59[SPEAKER_01]: Totally agree with everything you said.
- 38:01[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was, uh, it was a team win, which,
- 38:10[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think we've really seen the 49ers have this year.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: No, no, no, I'm thinking about that today.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_00]: It's like there's been, we've talked about this a little bit.
- 38:18[SPEAKER_00]: It's like the offense has had games or it's taken over.
- 38:20[SPEAKER_00]: The defense has had games or it's taken over.
- 38:23[SPEAKER_00]: Special teams hasn't necessarily had games that it's taken over, but this is the first time I think we're all three phases have been in some way a part of the game being one, I think.
- 38:36[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I totally agree and I think that
- 38:39[SPEAKER_01]: That boats really well for this team, just moving forward is the fact that they were able to have like everything firing and all cylinders that like that's just that's going to make the difference for this team so that was really exciting.
- 39:09[SPEAKER_01]: You got a good looking football game and a pretty good win, so that was really exciting to see.
- 39:14[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, yeah, like you said, would you have liked to have seen them run this team over like this is a bad team overall?
- 39:24[SPEAKER_00]: because even though their defense is really good, the other two phases are not good.
- 39:29[SPEAKER_00]: And there's some, there's some things that are a little deceptive.
- 39:33[SPEAKER_00]: Like the Browns had one more total yard than the 49ers did on offense.
- 39:37[SPEAKER_00]: But some of that is because, what they show, at one point they showed this in the game, I don't know if you saw this on the broadcast, like the average starting field position was 20 yards difference.
- 39:48[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm like, well, there goes the difference in like total yards right there.
- 39:54[SPEAKER_00]: why the Niners didn't, why the Niners only had 252 yards and still scored 26 points.
- 39:59[SPEAKER_00]: Because they didn't need to go that far to score.
- 40:01[SPEAKER_00]: Most of the time, where's the Browns?
- 40:03[SPEAKER_00]: One touchdown drive was what, 90, it was a long drive.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_00]: It was like, 89 something, well, let's see.
- 40:16[SPEAKER_00]: It was,
- 40:19[SPEAKER_00]: They started on their own 10 so 90 yards and that accounts for you know a good chunk of their total yardage on the day.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_01]: So there you go Just wow, man, just a weird game.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_01]: It was weird.
- 40:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think because all three phases played so well and only one phase from the Browns played well So just sort of like
- 40:46[SPEAKER_01]: It felt, it looked worse than it was.
- 40:49[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if you had this feeling wrong.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_01]: It looked a lot worse than it was.
- 40:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_00]: Like the, you mean like the final score indicates, like it looks like a bigger blow out than it was.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and also just like when I was watching the game, I was never worried, but it didn't really look like the Niners play it super well on offense or like, they're ended up looking like they played fine on, it looked like they played fine on defense, it just felt like they played a team that was not very good, and they were like, it almost felt like they're own.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_00]: And there's a little bit of like a sliding scale to some of these things, right?
- 41:30[SPEAKER_00]: It's like, well, the offense didn't play very well, but relative to the defense they were playing.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_00]: Like I said, the Browns have not given up this many points at home this season.
- 41:41[SPEAKER_00]: That's pretty good, right?
- 41:43[SPEAKER_00]: The defense, if the Browns were better on offense with the defense, have gotten a little bit more.
- 41:52[SPEAKER_00]: And so you have to take into account the fact that they played pretty well and like outside of that one drive the Brownson really do anything and never really looked like scoring and That was pretty much it right so it's like once that worry was out of there you're like okay it's fine like this defense is good enough when the when the when the offense when the opposing offense isn't very good this defense is good enough to kind of hold them down.
- 42:19[SPEAKER_00]: And that will not be good across the board.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it probably be good enough against like the titans in two weeks.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, probably will it make life against the bears and the cults and the seahawks a little bit more difficult than you'd like it, absolutely.
- 42:37[SPEAKER_00]: But that's kind of where we are with this team at this point, I think.
- 42:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's a very good point, like it's just gonna be weird.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be,
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna be a struggle, but they're proven that they can be in the fight, which is the thing is what I just all you want to see, really.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_00]: All right, so let's talk about the down.
- 42:58[SPEAKER_00]: We kind of already have alluded to some of these things, but I think there's some specific things we can get into about, yes, particular game.
- 43:05[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so, like, kind of as we were just saying, they looked fine.
- 43:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, so the offense was bad.
- 43:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I think you can account for the weather and you can account for the Browns defense, but it was still bad.
- 43:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, they average, they're averages probably higher because of some like, but they're at a somewhere around like three to maybe like, like 3.5 yards per carry.
- 43:37[SPEAKER_01]: Brock Perty threw for less than 200 yards, like 13 and completion slots at throw was not really explosive down to feel except for kiddles or to catch, just fine.
- 43:50[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, they didn't pretty good job mitigating the pressure, but there was still a lot of pressure.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like the Browns were getting after Perty a little bit.
- 43:57[SPEAKER_01]: They're offensively outside of that fuel goal at the end of the half.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_01]: They did not really move the ball down the field very well either.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_01]: They kind of got really good fuel position and then, like, cashed in, which is really important, right?
- 44:14[SPEAKER_01]: Like, Redstone was a big struggle for them last year.
- 44:16[SPEAKER_01]: And it's like, there you go.
- 44:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're taking advantage of the opportunities you get.
- 44:21[SPEAKER_01]: Don't knock, I'm not going to knock a team for, like, scoring when, like, get the ball at the end.
- 44:27[SPEAKER_00]: A dare you score from sort of, sort of, short fields, like, but like, I thought,
- 44:34[SPEAKER_01]: Look, the brands are, I think, by far, the best defense that they've played so far this year.
- 44:41[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if they're the best team, they will, the best defense, they will have to play this year.
- 44:48[SPEAKER_01]: Seattle's defense has played really well.
- 44:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I mean, if you like project out even further and think about the playoffs, right?
- 44:58[SPEAKER_01]: The ramps defense is really good, the eagle's defense is like pretty good, the wind's cuffing a little bit, they're still a good defense.
- 45:04[SPEAKER_01]: And then you get, and if you think about like reaching it all the way to the Super Bowl, right, the Broncos defense is like an exception of it.
- 45:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like,
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: The weather was not as bad as I think everyone thought it was going to be.
- 45:19[SPEAKER_01]: No, how that sort of changes the game plans, whatever.
- 45:21[SPEAKER_01]: So, but I think a lot of this really was defense, like the Browns defense, just playing really well against the 49ers.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: And it's fine, they won, but they won in large part because the Browns, like we've been saying for this entire episode, kind of suck everywhere else.
- 45:37[SPEAKER_01]: But like, yeah.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_01]: when those other parts are like okay or even good or like in the case of the rams like probably better than you like you run into problems if this is sort of the performance you're putting up so you know you take the win I think they did some good things but you I would kind of
- 46:04[SPEAKER_01]: carry the ball more figuratively and like literally like it would have been nice that they were better on the ground, but just the sort of past that I'm giving them for playing the Browns doesn't really like matters for this game and the fact that they beat that team but doesn't carry over to the fact that they're going to have to play good defenses and they're going to have to play better than they did against this
- 46:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 46:36[SPEAKER_00]: And on top of that, like the fact that all those other teams that you're talking about have at least competent to above average to really good other parts of their team, that I think will make their defenses even more problematic because
- 46:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, if you think about the rams or you think about Seattle or you think about the Broncos, if you want to think that far into the future or whatever, um, I don't know, um, like not only is playing those teams difficult because their defenses make it difficult on your offense, but
- 47:16[SPEAKER_00]: their offense is also going to put pressure on your defense to to like stay in stay you know stay on on course right to keep the game in manageable position whereas like we said but this game there was never really any concern that the browns off and just gonna put enough pressure on the 49ers to to
- 47:39[SPEAKER_00]: to make the only way the browns are going to win this game is if one of their defenders went out and said you know I'm just going to get the ball on the score like outside of that it felt unlikely that they were going to score enough points to keep up.
- 47:57[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, whereas that won't be the case with the Rams or even like Denver who's Denver's offense is fine, like, but it's certainly like heads like way better than than the Browns defense at this particular point.
- 48:12[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah, 100%.
- 48:13[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, you, they were gifted a lot because the Browns couldn't make the 49ers defense pay anyway, like I like we're saying.
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: That's just not going to be the case moving forward.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like, they're going to be teams that are able to take advantage of those situations.
- 48:35[SPEAKER_01]: So that wins a win, wins a win, positive.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so my down was like the run defense, but really only really only like mostly the run defense on the one drive on on the, you know, the touchdown drive that the the Browns had at the end of the half, like I said,
- 49:07[SPEAKER_00]: was was running so quick math suggests what what's that that's a six 50 hold on no 60 60 66 yards on the ground right there right yeah that sounds right So 66 yards on that one drive
- 49:26[SPEAKER_00]: But in total, the Browns round for 138 yards on 31 carries, which is a lot, it's 4.5 yards per carry.
- 49:38[SPEAKER_00]: However, if you take out that 66 yards from the one drive, it's really only 72 yards over the rest of those carries.
- 49:49[SPEAKER_00]: So it's less problematic.
- 49:51[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, I think there were certainly some concerns about the run defense, but I think it's bolstered, mostly by that.
- 50:01[SPEAKER_00]: By that one drive, as that's, it's not the majority of it, but it was a good chunk of their rushing yards was on that one drive.
- 50:09[SPEAKER_00]: And then for the rest of the game, they had some success, but they also,
- 50:14[SPEAKER_00]: Gosh, like, two of the worst fourth down short and short rushing attempts that I've seen in a while.
- 50:24[SPEAKER_00]: Just like, they, I don't know.
- 50:27[SPEAKER_00]: Did they not know what they were, what the plan, and it was just very weird.
- 50:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like, the first one was very passive.
- 50:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it didn't seem like they were actually trying, and then the other one was like,
- 50:35[SPEAKER_00]: the attempt to do the use check thing that they fumbled and it just didn't look like they were prepared to do that.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_00]: So again, some of this is a comes down to like what we're talking about with everything else.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_00]: This third, their offense has sort of a baseline of low competency and they have a couple of guys, you know, who are who are capable on the on the team, you know, obviously quenchon.
- 51:00[SPEAKER_00]: Judgins had a had a good
- 51:06[SPEAKER_00]: you know, but but outside of that there wasn't a whole lot to pay attention to.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_00]: So I don't know if this is indicative of a major concern with the run defense, which has been kind of up and down throughout the season, but it certainly was the one thing that maybe go.
- 51:23[SPEAKER_00]: I don't like how that went for the most part.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 51:27[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I agree.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_01]: It was also demoralizing given like the situation.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: Right.
- 51:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 51:33[SPEAKER_01]: Planet, you're at the 10 that punt is in large part because you're expecting your team to be able to take care of like take care of the difference to care of the Brown's offense.
- 51:43[SPEAKER_01]: They march it down, they're running the ball, they take the lead and it was just every sort of concern of like, oh boy, are they really not going to be able to like take care of business against this
- 51:56[SPEAKER_01]: Now, they managed to take care of it, which is great.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_01]: But like, I think that was the moment of fear.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like we mentioned earlier.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, that's when you're like, oh boy, are they like, can they handle this team right now?
- 52:12[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry.
- 52:14[SPEAKER_00]: What a thing to say.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_00]: Um, well, I mean, I think you and I had that exact same thought at the exact same time, or it's just like,
- 52:24[SPEAKER_00]: Seriously, like really this team, like this is the way this is gonna go and I think probably scarred by the last time they were in Cleveland where again another great Cleveland defense with a not so great Cleveland offense and the the defense was a big part of why the Browns won that game at that year in spite also not being a very good team.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_00]: And so I was getting a little bit of like, we're gonna do this again, but you know, they didn't, and that's put a team that wants to, that's good and wants to go to the playoffs and make noise in the playoffs.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_00]: That's what they're gonna need to do.
- 53:03[SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, for all the ups and downs and the things we liked and whatnot, I think ultimately, that's the biggest point.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_00]: So, that's my main takeaway.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think I agree.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: I agree.
- 53:19[SPEAKER_00]: And now they get to to rest up, um, which as she said is really important to get the guys who are alien, which probably means pretty much everybody at this point, um, the other thing we forgot to mention, no real word on the, well.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_00]: the status in, you know, as it relates to Brandon Aayuk, who knows who fill out our play for this team again, it remains to be seen.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_00]: The word is that it's up to him, and whether or not he's healthy, but I don't know if that's really true.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_00]: Eatergrass Matoz doesn't appear to be quite to where he needs to be to return from injury reserve and Jacob Cowling, I think, is the only other guy that they're looking at.
- 53:59[SPEAKER_00]: That would be maybe a potential guy.
- 54:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know the thing with him just seems like, where do you, what would you do with him?
- 54:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, it feels like they're just going to let him write out the ear on injured reserve because he just doesn't have a spot on this team at this point because Skymore is pretty much like embraced the very thing they probably wanted him to do and he's not going to obviously, they can't even get Jordan Watkins on on the field or even in any uniform on Sunday.
- 54:26[SPEAKER_00]: So like activating Jacob Cowling even if he is fine would make absolutely zero sense.
- 54:34[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I mean, I think that's the problem with Skymore, right around the time that I think, like, I think at the near of like Skymore's play, it was like, okay, Jacob, how are you, you're gonna come back, you got this position, like it's pretty clearly gonna be your place, but from their Skymore's been like exceptional.
- 54:46[SPEAKER_01]: And like, yeah, he's not giving you anything on the offense, but I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm talking about, I think that's what I'm
- 54:59[SPEAKER_00]: That's Dick, Jacob counting probably wasn't either, right?
- 55:01[SPEAKER_01]: Exactly.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 55:02[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I mean, like, I deal with you to hope that he, like, give you that spark there too.
- 55:06[SPEAKER_01]: He's not, that's okay.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_01]: Like, like, they're, like, there's, I could just, it's so hard to admit, honestly, the only thing I could potentially see, potentially, is if somehow they can gain the system to, like, call up Skymore from the practice squad for the last three games.
- 55:27[SPEAKER_01]: and then like somehow it doesn't count into playoffs so they can call them up into playoffs unlimited times.
- 55:34[SPEAKER_01]: Then like if there's a way to like sort of like play around with the system so you can get like both of them, I would do it but I just couldn't.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: If there's like loopholes aside, Skymore is pretty much solidified as a place on this team, which is really interesting for the future, right?
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: That's like that's that's Jacob Collins do a rec competition and now
- 55:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, I have to see how that plays out in the off season, but that's a ways away from them.
- 56:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, um, that's funny.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_00]: I was just thinking about that was another thought I was to see Didi.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to answer my own question real quick.
- 56:12[SPEAKER_00]: No, he does not have anymore.
- 56:13[SPEAKER_00]: So Skymore will be a
- 56:15[SPEAKER_00]: a free agent at the end of this season, which will be an interesting conversation to have, focused around a guy who's pretty much just proven himself as a as a kicker turner and or as a return man and nothing else since joining the NFL, but that's not a conversation for now, that'll be a conversation for later.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_00]: But anyway, um, yeah of that of that trio, I would think like
- 56:39[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously having Brandon a healthy Brandon egg on this team would be great, but not holding my breath.
- 56:44[SPEAKER_00]: The U.T.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_00]: or Grasmatoes would be a big get if they could get him back and healthy, especially towards the in the stretch run for the season.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_00]: And as they get into the towards the playoffs, that would be nice just to have another useful body on the defensive line of this juncture would be awesome, but I don't know we'll see.
- 57:01[SPEAKER_00]: Kind of all that plays out.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_00]: Um, ox does any final thoughts on this one before we wrap up this recap of a, you know, in the end kind of a nice win.
- 57:11[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, I think you said perfectly like it was a nice one.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_01]: Was it ideal?
- 57:17[SPEAKER_01]: Was it bad?
- 57:18[SPEAKER_01]: I don't think so.
- 57:19[SPEAKER_01]: Like.
- 57:22[SPEAKER_01]: three games stretched, they've gotten to the buy, they can get rested, and then they're four games to go out and prove it, and I'm just, I'm so stoked.
- 57:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think they've shown that they can do enough to sort of like, make some noise, so I'm really excited to see them actually do that, so just can't wait.
- 57:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, one more game in the like you definitely got to win this one because it's not a good team category, and then three shit wins three straight.
- 57:50[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe three shit games against teams that are probably going to go to the playoffs in one way, shape or form the culture kind of looking if he at this point, but Daniel Jones and his broken leg.
- 58:02[SPEAKER_00]: wild.
- 58:04[SPEAKER_00]: Um, but it, those will be the, you know, if you want to get into the playoffs and you want to give yourself the best position in the playoffs, possible, you really got to put the pedal to the floor and make it happen.
- 58:16[SPEAKER_00]: So, well said, I think, as per usual for me.
- 58:20[SPEAKER_00]: All right.
- 58:21[SPEAKER_00]: Well, um, yeah, we'll we'll probably take a little break.
- 58:25[SPEAKER_00]: We haven't really discussed what we're going to do.
- 58:26[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe we'll come back with something towards the end of the ad.
- 58:29[SPEAKER_00]: We'll see how it goes.
- 58:30[SPEAKER_00]: There's, you know, maybe we need a buy week as well.
- 58:34[SPEAKER_00]: That could be good.
- 58:35[SPEAKER_00]: But we'll definitely back with you before the the Titans game, um, and the lead up to that.
- 58:40[SPEAKER_00]: So
