- 1:53SPEAKER_08: But before we get started, we want to recognize our 10x partners and the official drink sponsor of our podcast at SIPS Coffee with the Lindy's.
- 2:00SPEAKER_08: Not the Lindy's, but the Lindys.
- 2:02SPEAKER_07: I still like that.
- 2:04SPEAKER_07: I know, I'm excited.
- 2:05SPEAKER_08: Hey, SIPS now has three locations, and they continue to be a great example of a local business that's growing while staying involved in the communities that we serve.
- 2:13SPEAKER_08: So grab yourself a sip, settle in, and let's get started.
- 2:16SPEAKER_08: Today, we're talking about one of Carnival's greatest community organizations.
- 2:20SPEAKER_08: That's the Carnival Rotary Club.
- 2:22SPEAKER_08: And we've got two great guests joining us today, Shannon Dixon and Susan Millard.
- 2:27SPEAKER_08: We appreciate you being here.
- 2:28SPEAKER_08: And we're going to be talking about what Rotary is.
- 2:31SPEAKER_08: A lot of people may not even know what the Rotary is, right?
- 2:33SPEAKER_08: And the history.
- 2:34SPEAKER_08: I'd like to know.
- 2:35SPEAKER_05: I'm excited to learn more about it.
- 2:36SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 2:37SPEAKER_08: So we're going to find out what the history of Carnival Rotary, the impact that you're having right here in our community, what's coming up next, and then we're moving and going to be talking about one of the Carnival's biggest and most unique community events, the nighttime Halloween parade.
- 2:51SPEAKER_08: Shannon Susan, welcome to our podcast.
- 2:53SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: Thank you so much for having us.
- 2:55SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 2:56SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 2:57SPEAKER_08: So let's first, let's let everyone know who we are, who we're talking about.
- 3:00SPEAKER_08: Susan, we'll start with you.
- 3:02SPEAKER_04: I'm Susan Millard.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: As a matter of fact, I'm the president of the Rotary Club this year.
- 3:06SPEAKER_08: Love it.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: I've been a Rotarian, I don't know, 20, 25 years, and I've been the president four times, believe it or not.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 3:14SPEAKER_08: We're in the uh presence of greatness.
- 3:16SPEAKER_04: I knew we were.
- 3:17SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 3:18SPEAKER_04: Greatness.
- 3:19SPEAKER_04: Nobody's fighting for the position, let me put it that way.
- 3:21SPEAKER_08: So may I say, and this isn't to be sexist of me at all, I didn't know that women were in the rotary.
- 3:27SPEAKER_08: Is that wrong of me to think of that?
- 3:29SPEAKER_08: Or is that a stigma?
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: No, that is there was no women allowed for many years.
- 3:33SPEAKER_08: So it wasn't.
- 3:34SPEAKER_08: So I was right in the middle.
- 3:36SPEAKER_04: That's correct.
- 3:37SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 3:37SPEAKER_04: Women, I don't I don't know what the date was when women joined, were able to join, but yes, women are now in the club.
- 3:43SPEAKER_04: We're a small minority, but women are in the club.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: Mighty.
- 3:46SPEAKER_04: But mighty, small but mighty.
- 3:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and the president is a woman.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: So hey.
- 3:50SPEAKER_04: Shannon is a woman.
- 3:50SPEAKER_08: Four times now.
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: Four times.
- 3:51SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 3:52SPEAKER_08: Four times re-elected.
- 3:53SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 3:54SPEAKER_08: Shannon.
- 3:54SPEAKER_06: Well, I'm a two-year member.
- 3:57SPEAKER_06: So goals to get to the number of years that Susan's.
- 4:00SPEAKER_08: I'm sure Susan will let you be president soon.
- 4:02SPEAKER_06: Uh maybe in a couple years.
- 4:04SPEAKER_06: Maybe in a couple of years.
- 4:06SPEAKER_06: I am recently been appointed to the board for Rotary, and I am the chair of the Halloween parade.
- 4:12SPEAKER_06: Uh, this is my second year.
- 4:13SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 4:14SPEAKER_08: I love it.
- 4:15SPEAKER_08: So outside of Rotary, Shannon, tell us what you do.
- 4:18SPEAKER_08: Well in the community.
- 4:19SPEAKER_06: My my real job, my big girl job is I'm a nurse, believe it or not, but I don't really practice that um anymore.
- 4:26SPEAKER_06: I'm still current, but I don't practice that.
- 4:28SPEAKER_06: I'm my family and I own DD Fitness.
- 4:30SPEAKER_08: Such a great establishment here in our community.
- 4:33SPEAKER_08: I know you have people that come in not just from Carlville, but from other communities too that come to DD Fitness.
- 4:37SPEAKER_08: Yep.
- 4:38SPEAKER_06: The whole county.
- 4:38SPEAKER_06: All over the county.
- 4:39SPEAKER_08: It's amazing because you guys have great programs out there too.
- 4:42SPEAKER_06: We do have great programs and we have great instructors.
- 4:45SPEAKER_06: And Susan also instructs for us a silver sneaker program and old school step aerobics, which is amazing.
- 4:52SPEAKER_06: I love it.
- 4:52SPEAKER_08: Nice segue back to Susan.
- 4:53SPEAKER_08: So, Susan, besides in doing instructing of the silver sneakers and the old step aerobics, right?
- 5:00SPEAKER_08: Is that what you said?
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: Old school.
- 5:01SPEAKER_08: Old school aerobics.
- 5:03SPEAKER_05: It's awesome though.
- 5:04SPEAKER_05: It's a high interest.
- 5:05SPEAKER_05: It's hard.
- 5:06SPEAKER_05: It's so hard.
- 5:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 5:07SPEAKER_05: It's a workout.
- 5:08SPEAKER_08: So where would other people find you in the community?
- 5:11SPEAKER_04: Well, everywhere.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Everywhere.
- 5:14SPEAKER_04: I used to work for the Carmel School District.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 5:16SPEAKER_04: So that was my big job.
- 5:17SPEAKER_04: But I have worn, I've had so many jobs.
- 5:19SPEAKER_04: My mom and dad asked me one day, how many jobs have you had?
- 5:22SPEAKER_04: And I said, made a list.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: I think I came up with 25.
- 5:25SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: And you name it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_07: I mean.
- 5:27SPEAKER_07: Love it.
- 5:28SPEAKER_05: And she's very active in the church, too.
- 5:29SPEAKER_05: Like very active in our church.
- 5:31SPEAKER_05: And very thankful for that.
- 5:32SPEAKER_05: And she's a wonderful singer.
- 5:33SPEAKER_05: I want everyone to know.
- 5:35SPEAKER_08: Do you want to bust out a few chords?
- 5:36SPEAKER_08: No.
- 5:37SPEAKER_05: She plays piano.
- 5:38SPEAKER_04: Like she's I I quit that.
- 5:40SPEAKER_04: I had to give up something.
- 5:41SPEAKER_04: I tried to play piano when Stevie was taking lessons, but see a little backstory.
- 5:46SPEAKER_05: So my one of my very best friends, my childhood friends grew up with since preschool, is in fact Susan's oldest daughter, Stevie.
- 5:54SPEAKER_05: So I have many memories of Susan growing up and at her house.
- 5:57SPEAKER_05: And she's always very active, always wanting to help people, always wanting to do good, always wanting to volunteer.
- 6:03SPEAKER_05: And obviously, once I've gotten to know Shannon, obviously the same.
- 6:07SPEAKER_05: We know that we've talked about her a lot.
- 6:09SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 6:09SPEAKER_05: Also, guys, her husband obviously is the sheriff elect.
- 6:13SPEAKER_07: Thank you.
- 6:14SPEAKER_07: Make sure you say that I'm always correct or when you're talking about it.
- 6:16SPEAKER_05: Because I he's been my sheriff since day one.
- 6:18SPEAKER_05: So, but you guys are so active in the community.
- 6:21SPEAKER_05: So that's why I saw last year when I came to the meeting member for Rotary Halloween parade and I saw you taking over.
- 6:27SPEAKER_05: I was like, wow, this is this is big time.
- 6:30SPEAKER_05: So I'm excited to learn more about exactly like what it is, like what the mission statement is, I guess.
- 6:36SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 6:36SPEAKER_08: And that's that's great.
- 6:37SPEAKER_08: So give us a high level overview of the Rotary Club and its mission.
- 6:43SPEAKER_04: I would love to do that.
- 6:44SPEAKER_04: So many people think that Rotary is just the Halloween parade, the ice cream social, the pancake breakfast.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: But Rotary is so much bigger than that.
- 6:55SPEAKER_04: We are international.
- 6:56SPEAKER_04: I mean, we get a little look at this.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: I can whip this out.
- 7:00SPEAKER_04: We are international.
- 7:02SPEAKER_04: We have I forget how many, I think I made a note, 456,000 members.
- 7:08SPEAKER_04: 45,000, no, clubs.
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: Oh, clubs.
- 7:10SPEAKER_08: And then you have all the members in those.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: Worldwide.
- 7:13SPEAKER_04: A million members.
- 7:14SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 7:15SPEAKER_04: And our mission, you know, it's got a big mission statement, but it's simply put service above self.
- 7:21SPEAKER_07: Yep.
- 7:21SPEAKER_04: Service above self is what we are.
- 7:23SPEAKER_04: And we focus on water sanitation, disease prevention, maternal and child health, peace building, conflict resolution.
- 7:33SPEAKER_04: And our biggest thing we're best known for is we're ending polio.
- 7:37SPEAKER_06: Eradicating polio.
- 7:38SPEAKER_04: Eradicating polio.
- 7:41SPEAKER_04: We're so close.
- 7:42SPEAKER_04: We are 99% eradicated due to the works of Rotary International.
- 7:48SPEAKER_04: There's a few cases left in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
- 7:52SPEAKER_04: But other than that, we have eradicated polio.
- 7:55SPEAKER_04: And if you really know anything about polio, it's it can be paralyzing.
- 7:59SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: Exactly.
- 8:00SPEAKER_04: Paralyzing.
- 8:01SPEAKER_04: And so if you don't get your child vaccinated, that's what we do.
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: We go worldwide and vaccinate children in these hard-to-reach spots.
- 8:08SPEAKER_04: This woman here, look at this.
- 8:09SPEAKER_04: Here she is in Pakistan in her burqa, trying to get to all those little nook and crannies that's left where there's active polio taking place.
- 8:18SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 8:18SPEAKER_08: Polio contagious?
- 8:20SPEAKER_04: No, it's by drinking usually bad water.
- 8:22SPEAKER_04: Contaminated water.
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: Oh, I didn't know.
- 8:23SPEAKER_04: I thought it was contagious.
- 8:24SPEAKER_04: No, okay.
- 8:25SPEAKER_04: Drinking contaminated water.
- 8:26SPEAKER_08: Because intestinal I remember polio was in the 40s and 50s in America.
- 8:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, one of the presidents.
- 8:34SPEAKER_04: Even later.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:35SPEAKER_08: I I I thought because you know, growing up as a child, you know, it's like get your vaccine because you know show us pictures of you know children with polio and all of that.
- 8:43SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 8:44SPEAKER_08: That's I didn't know that about the rotary.
- 8:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 8:47SPEAKER_08: So I'm glad you're on share that information with us.
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: Very powerful.
- 8:50SPEAKER_08: And that it's 99% eradicated.
- 8:53SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 8:53SPEAKER_05: Just two countries.
- 8:54SPEAKER_08: That's amazing.
- 8:56SPEAKER_05: That really is.
- 8:56SPEAKER_05: I'm like, I'm feeling like that.
- 8:59SPEAKER_08: And here we thought we were just talking about a parade.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: Exactly.
- 9:01SPEAKER_05: Thank you, Chris.
- 9:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's what we and that's that's what this podcast is about, right?
- 9:06SPEAKER_08: It's about getting our listeners and followers to getting them more information, right?
- 9:11SPEAKER_08: And it's not just designing and building homes, it's designing and building communities by organizations like the what you guys represent.
- 9:18SPEAKER_05: Service above self.
- 9:19SPEAKER_08: Oh, yeah.
- 9:19SPEAKER_08: That's that's that is I love that.
- 9:22SPEAKER_08: And and so how long has the rotary been in Cardinville?
- 9:26SPEAKER_04: Since 1925.
- 9:28SPEAKER_04: Oh my! Last year was our hundredth anniversary.
- 9:30SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_08: I love that.
- 9:31SPEAKER_04: That's right.
- 9:32SPEAKER_08: I love that.
- 9:33SPEAKER_08: So, what does the rotary mean to our community?
- 9:36SPEAKER_08: I know worldwide we're talking about eradicating polio, better drinking water, which helps eradicate the polio and it not come back, which it could because water is always gonna be contaminated to some degree.
- 9:46SPEAKER_08: So, what about our community?
- 9:48SPEAKER_04: To our community, I'm gonna say that it is the Halloween parade, it is the ice cream social, it is the pancake breakfast, it's decorating the square at Christmas, but we also donate a lot of money to community events.
- 10:01SPEAKER_04: We do we sponsor little teams, baseball, you know, the food pantry.
- 10:06SPEAKER_04: We just had a presentation from Darlene Barkley with the food pantry last week.
- 10:10SPEAKER_04: Made a presentation, she made a presentation, and we in turn made a donation to the food pantry.
- 10:15SPEAKER_04: So it's our monetary donations.
- 10:18SPEAKER_04: And I just wrote a grant and um received a grant, and we're going to fund a fall formal for the circle of friends, parents of children with developmental disabilities, adult children with developmental disabilities, and we're going to be doing a fall formal for them here in November, November the 7th.
- 10:35SPEAKER_04: So those are the contributions that Carnival Rotary does.
- 10:39SPEAKER_08: I love that.
- 10:40SPEAKER_08: So the presence of the Rotary in Carnival, 1925, like you said, has it always been a strong presence or has it been a behind-the-scenes type support system?
- 10:49SPEAKER_06: I think it's been a little bit of both.
- 10:51SPEAKER_06: I really have to agree with you.
- 10:52SPEAKER_06: I'm actually one of the founding fathers, if you will, of Rotary.
- 10:58SPEAKER_06: There were four of them.
- 10:59SPEAKER_06: And Gus Lohr was actually born in Carlinville and born and raised in Carlinville, moved to Chicago, where he became involved with some other individuals, and they actually were the founders of Rotary.
- 11:13SPEAKER_06: I'm so glad you mentioned that.
- 11:14SPEAKER_06: That's right.
- 11:15SPEAKER_08: So one of the four founding fathers of the Rotary.
- 11:18SPEAKER_06: Say Carlinville Native of the entire organization.
- 11:21SPEAKER_06: Carlinville native.
- 11:22SPEAKER_06: The entire organization.
- 11:24SPEAKER_06: I thought you showed the Carloville one.
- 11:25SPEAKER_08: See how important Carlinville is?
- 11:27SPEAKER_08: That's why I thought first, then I heard I followed that.
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: He's still here.
- 11:30SPEAKER_06: He's actually buried in the city cemetery.
- 11:32SPEAKER_06: You can actually go.
- 11:33SPEAKER_05: What's his name?
- 11:34SPEAKER_05: Lore?
- 11:34SPEAKER_05: Gus Lorraine.
- 11:35SPEAKER_05: Gus Lore.
- 11:35SPEAKER_05: I was gonna say Greg.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 11:37SPEAKER_05: Gus Lore.
- 11:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_05: Dude, this is cool.
- 11:40SPEAKER_05: I'm driving up there.
- 11:41SPEAKER_05: Gus?
- 11:42SPEAKER_08: This is no, that is amazing.
- 11:44SPEAKER_08: So what year was the original rotary then established?
- 11:48SPEAKER_08: If it was established here in 25, when was it established?
- 11:50SPEAKER_06: 1905.
- 11:51SPEAKER_08: 1905.
- 11:52SPEAKER_08: So 20 years later, Gus brought it back to Gardenville.
- 11:55SPEAKER_08: She is teeing up for presidency.
- 11:57SPEAKER_08: She is what she's doing.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: She's teeing.
- 12:00SPEAKER_06: I mean, I don't know.
- 12:03SPEAKER_08: She's learned some things following her husband.
- 12:05SPEAKER_08: Not really following, supporting, and really probably directing her husband.
- 12:10SPEAKER_08: Maybe a little.
- 12:12SPEAKER_08: So exactly.
- 12:14SPEAKER_08: I love that.
- 12:15SPEAKER_08: So how has the organization evolved over the years?
- 12:18SPEAKER_08: Obviously, allowing women in to be part of it, which is great.
- 12:21SPEAKER_08: And that that happened not just locally, it happened in the whole world organization, correct?
- 12:27SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 12:27SPEAKER_08: So how's it evolved over the years?
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: Well, I'm gonna say it continues to grow, but kind of struggling anymore, as we find many not joining civic organizations or really volunteering much anymore.
- 12:44SPEAKER_08: Why do you think that is?
- 12:45SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 12:46SPEAKER_04: I don't have an answer for that.
- 12:47SPEAKER_04: Why do you think that is, Caitlin?
- 12:49SPEAKER_04: It's we're looking at your generation to get younger people to join.
- 12:54SPEAKER_08: She called you young.
- 12:55SPEAKER_04: And she is young.
- 12:58SPEAKER_05: Well, here's the thing.
- 12:59SPEAKER_05: I can't really speak for that because I will do anything.
- 13:02SPEAKER_05: Like right now, I'm I'm volunteering for the Gracie Foundation.
- 13:05SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: Like not getting paid.
- 13:06SPEAKER_05: And I just I can't understand that.
- 13:09SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 13:09SPEAKER_05: But I think Stevie and me, we were raised by different, you know, obviously your kids.
- 13:14SPEAKER_05: It depends who you're raised by, but mostly I think these kids are like, or people my age are like, well, if I'm not getting paid for it, or if I'm not getting something out of it, then I'm not doing it.
- 13:24SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 13:24SPEAKER_05: I've got better things to do.
- 13:26SPEAKER_02: Do girls girl.
- 13:28SPEAKER_05: You know, so to me, but we have talked about so many times you serve, serve, serve, and then it it it will come back to you.
- 13:34SPEAKER_05: And obviously, I love meeting people so and talking.
- 13:37SPEAKER_05: So I will do whatever.
- 13:39SPEAKER_07: She does love to talk, well.
- 13:41SPEAKER_05: But it is, but that's sad.
- 13:42SPEAKER_05: But I do think another thing, just to say, people are so busy.
- 13:47SPEAKER_05: If you look at someone like me and Stevie with all these kids and all these jobs and all these things and sports, it's like, dude, maybe when the kids get older, I'll do it.
- 13:55SPEAKER_05: So I I think there's a mixture there.
- 13:57SPEAKER_06: But a lot of it is in raising your kids to have a heart for service.
- 14:02SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 14:03SPEAKER_06: Very important that that's that's not everyone's special gift.
- 14:06SPEAKER_06: Service is not everyone's special gift, and it's not important to everyone until potentially it's a need for them.
- 14:14SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 14:14SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 14:15SPEAKER_08: They're there, and if I may interject a couple things, what I think has led to a downfall of volunteerism is COVID.
- 14:23SPEAKER_04: Could be.
- 14:24SPEAKER_08: Because COVID was stay at home, we'll take care of you.
- 14:27SPEAKER_08: Stay at home will take care of you.
- 14:28SPEAKER_08: You know, here's your checks, here's this, do that.
- 14:30SPEAKER_08: And then people are like, well, someone else is gonna do that.
- 14:33SPEAKER_08: That's true, Chris.
- 14:34SPEAKER_08: Yeah, and and it's I've I've been involved with the scouting program for 17 years as an adult, and you know, we're very much service above self as well.
- 14:44SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 14:44SPEAKER_08: And that's the way I was raised.
- 14:46SPEAKER_08: And so it's just come natural to me to help anywhere someone needs help, sure, let's jump in and do it.
- 14:52SPEAKER_08: Not looking for anything in return.
- 14:53SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 14:54SPEAKER_08: The golden rule, right?
- 14:55SPEAKER_08: Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you.
- 14:57SPEAKER_08: And so I think I think it's a strong awakening that needs to happen.
- 15:01SPEAKER_07: Yeah.
- 15:02SPEAKER_08: And the more people that talk about it and get the message out of the rotary and other organizations that are volunteer, you ladies aren't getting paid.
- 15:11SPEAKER_08: No, none of the members of the rotary are getting paid.
- 15:13SPEAKER_08: They're getting paid by self-gratification for helping, right?
- 15:16SPEAKER_08: Does that sum that up kind of a little bit?
- 15:18SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 15:19SPEAKER_08: And so if you're listening to this and following our podcast and to this episode and listening to Shannon and Susan, you know, this is what it's about.
- 15:27SPEAKER_08: If you want to feel that self-gratification of helping someone and and delivering that service above self, it's about helping.
- 15:35SPEAKER_08: Then definitely reach out.
- 15:36SPEAKER_08: What's the parameters of being a member?
- 15:38SPEAKER_06: Well, there's no age limit.
- 15:40SPEAKER_08: A 12-year-old could become a member.
- 15:42SPEAKER_04: Well, we have Interact, which is in the high school.
- 15:45SPEAKER_08: Okay, thank you.
- 15:46SPEAKER_04: Rotoract, which is in the college.
- 15:48SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 15:49SPEAKER_04: And then you can move into rotary.
- 15:50SPEAKER_04: Rotary.
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 15:52SPEAKER_06: Oh, I guess I love that.
- 15:53SPEAKER_06: Pretty good-sized group of kids this year at Crownville High School that are Interact members and they talk about community projects.
- 16:01SPEAKER_06: They're gonna be the kids you're gonna see out on the side of the road picking up trash on Sunday mornings.
- 16:07SPEAKER_06: They volunteer after the Halloween parade and pick up the trash.
- 16:10SPEAKER_06: Um there's a lot of candies and wraps.
- 16:13SPEAKER_06: They do a lot of community service projects.
- 16:15SPEAKER_06: They show up for a lot of the projects that Rotary does um and volunteer their time.
- 16:21SPEAKER_06: But as the Carlinville Rotary Club, we meet every Thursday.
- 16:26SPEAKER_06: We alter that a little bit in the summer.
- 16:28SPEAKER_06: We meet every other, but we meet every Thursday, typically at Blackburn College at noon, and they welcome us for lunch out there.
- 16:36SPEAKER_06: It's open to the community.
- 16:37SPEAKER_06: Blackburn is for lunch.
- 16:39SPEAKER_06: So a lot of people come on their lunch hour and it's an hour.
- 16:43SPEAKER_06: We only meet for an hour.
- 16:45SPEAKER_06: So we try to get a lot done in an hour.
- 16:47SPEAKER_06: And it's very education-based, so most of the time is spent with members giving a presentation.
- 16:54SPEAKER_06: They either give the presentation themselves or they find someone in the community uh with something that they feel everyone needs to know about or that would be interesting and give a presentation.
- 17:05SPEAKER_06: I mean, we've had presentations from NASCAR to sailing around the world to the food pantry, all kinds of different things.
- 17:14SPEAKER_08: I I believe that maybe I think the our market at the plaza did a presentation for the Rotary, I think.
- 17:19SPEAKER_06: Yes, the Chamber of Commerce has done presentation.
- 17:22SPEAKER_06: We were recently invited to out to the the Carnival Hospital campus out here near you, their new campus.
- 17:31SPEAKER_06: Uh we held our meeting out there.
- 17:32SPEAKER_06: Um Mr.
- 17:33SPEAKER_06: Burnside is also Carnival Hospital member, he's a member of Rotary.
- 17:38SPEAKER_06: So we got to have a meeting out there, and a lot of folks from um the community were invited.
- 17:44SPEAKER_06: It was just a little bit of a precursor to their big announce announcement they just recently made, so that was pretty cool for us to be able to be involved in that too.
- 17:53SPEAKER_06: I love them.
- 17:54SPEAKER_06: So anyone's welcome.
- 17:55SPEAKER_05: You know, thinking about being a member of the rotary.
- 17:58SPEAKER_07: Why wouldn't you?
- 17:59SPEAKER_05: Well, me and Stevie should do it.
- 18:00SPEAKER_05: It's only on Thursdays at noon.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:02SPEAKER_05: That's Thursday.
- 18:03SPEAKER_05: And you get lunch evening.
- 18:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, the evening's hard.
- 18:06SPEAKER_05: The evening's hard.
- 18:07SPEAKER_05: Evening is hard.
- 18:07SPEAKER_05: It's a good idea to do lunch and at Black and at noon.
- 18:11SPEAKER_06: And it's one hour inward.
- 18:12SPEAKER_06: One hour.
- 18:13SPEAKER_06: One hour.
- 18:14SPEAKER_06: We we do there are people that don't work in town that are members, so we do miss them, but we keep them informed through some social media efforts and email a few other ways.
- 18:27SPEAKER_06: It is just Thursdays, but it is lots of projects too that we we have to have volunteer help for.
- 18:33SPEAKER_06: Like Susan mentioned, our pancake breakfast and our ice cream social, those are fundraisers for us.
- 18:39SPEAKER_06: That's how we fund a lot of our local projects that we do.
- 18:42SPEAKER_06: We recently did a project out at Loveless Park.
- 18:45SPEAKER_06: We assisted with that.
- 18:46SPEAKER_06: We provide books for kids in the elementary school here.
- 18:50SPEAKER_06: We go second grade, we read to them.
- 18:53SPEAKER_06: Um everyone gets books.
- 18:55SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:55SPEAKER_04: And each one gets to take home what three books?
- 18:58SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 18:58SPEAKER_06: Mm-hmm.
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: Absolutely.
- 18:59SPEAKER_06: That's a big deal.
- 19:00SPEAKER_05: And then I remember because we still have them because you put the sticker on it on the inside.
- 19:04SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 19:05SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:05SPEAKER_06: And our Halloween parade, not a a fundraiser for us.
- 19:09SPEAKER_06: It actually costs us money.
- 19:10SPEAKER_06: Exactly.
- 19:11SPEAKER_06: Right to put it along.
- 19:12SPEAKER_06: Um, it's huge, and you know, the community loves it and expects it.
- 19:16SPEAKER_08: So so how many members are currently in the Rotary of Carlville?
- 19:20SPEAKER_04: I think we have close to 40.
- 19:21SPEAKER_08: 40.
- 19:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe 35.
- 19:23SPEAKER_08: We need to add a zero to those.
- 19:24SPEAKER_08: Yes, we do.
- 19:25SPEAKER_04: We'd love that.
- 19:26SPEAKER_04: We do.
- 19:27SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:27SPEAKER_08: I I so what does the future vision look like for the rotary here in Carloville?
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: Add a zero to that.
- 19:33SPEAKER_06: I love it.
- 19:34SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:34SPEAKER_08: That would be 10X, wouldn't it?
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: We'd like to 10X.
- 19:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 19:38SPEAKER_08: I'd love that.
- 19:39SPEAKER_08: I'd love it.
- 19:39SPEAKER_08: Well, it sounds funny.
- 19:40SPEAKER_08: What are upcoming goals besides increasing membership?
- 19:43SPEAKER_08: Do you have any specific Hey, we know of a huge thing that they need help, they need assistance.
- 19:48SPEAKER_08: We want to do you guys have any anything that you know of like that?
- 19:51SPEAKER_06: There are a lot of international product projects that we are a part of behind the scenes.
- 19:57SPEAKER_06: Exchange students.
- 19:58SPEAKER_08: Um I know there's a few coming in because I've got a client that we're doing some work at their house and it has to be done before their exchange student comes in.
- 20:05SPEAKER_04: That's not ours.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: Is it not?
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: No.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 20:07SPEAKER_04: Ours is here.
- 20:08SPEAKER_04: She's Columbia's here.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: Okay, gotcha.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: She's here or maybe it's a lovely young lady.
- 20:12SPEAKER_06: It could be a different, different organization, but we do outbound exchange students and obviously inbound exchange students, and we mostly fund that.
- 20:21SPEAKER_06: So being able to continue that work would be huge for us.
- 20:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_05: And don't you have something going on this weekend, did you say?
- 20:29SPEAKER_06: We do.
- 20:30SPEAKER_06: The new owners of Broom Orchard have graciously allowed us to provide food.
- 20:36SPEAKER_06: We were there a couple weeks ago for the Apple Festival.
- 20:38SPEAKER_06: Um, we'll be there this weekend for the pumpkin festival, providing the delicious pork burgers, pork chops.
- 20:44SPEAKER_08: Fundraiser.
- 20:45SPEAKER_06: It is a fundraiser.
- 20:46SPEAKER_06: Great.
- 20:46SPEAKER_08: That's what I want to make sure that people understand.
- 20:48SPEAKER_08: Come out, enjoy the pumpkin festival at Brooms Orchard, but then also get some good food.
- 20:53SPEAKER_08: Come with it.
- 20:53SPEAKER_08: Donating the money to a great cause, which is a rotary, right?
- 20:56SPEAKER_08: Yes, right.
- 20:57SPEAKER_05: I mean, I should eat a pork burger or pork chop truly every day.
- 21:03SPEAKER_04: They're so good, aren't they?
- 21:04SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 21:04SPEAKER_05: And then when they're cooked outside, if I cooked that in my house, it wouldn't be as good.
- 21:08SPEAKER_05: But yeah, it's not.
- 21:10SPEAKER_08: So so back to membership, would you encourage business owners to become members?
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
- 21:15SPEAKER_04: That's what it's mostly is.
- 21:17SPEAKER_04: It was created by it was created by business members who wanted to do like social service.
- 21:24SPEAKER_08: So and obviously a fee to be a member.
- 21:26SPEAKER_06: There are annual fees, yes.
- 21:28SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 21:28SPEAKER_08: We can talk about them, right?
- 21:29SPEAKER_06: Dues.
- 21:31SPEAKER_06: You can.
- 21:32SPEAKER_06: If I could remember what they are, that'll be helpful.
- 21:35SPEAKER_04: But I don't really forty.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: But we keep it.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: Yes.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:44SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 21:45SPEAKER_08: I mean, I know for a fact that people are spending more than twenty dollars a month, probably a day, on basic coffee.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: And it's nothing against sips, coffee.
- 21:55SPEAKER_08: Nothing against them.
- 21:56SPEAKER_08: But what I need is they can give up one coffee a day to pay for their Month their membership into the Rotary to do good for the community.
- 22:04SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 22:04SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 22:04SPEAKER_08: And the Midwest and our world.
- 22:06SPEAKER_08: I mean, that's that's the whole thing on that.
- 22:08SPEAKER_08: So I love that.
- 22:09SPEAKER_08: So let's talk about the main event.
- 22:12SPEAKER_08: The nighttime Halloween Parade.
- 22:15SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 22:16SPEAKER_08: How long has that been going on?
- 22:17SPEAKER_06: This year will be our 87th annual parade.
- 22:20SPEAKER_08: 87th annual nighttime Halloween parade.
- 22:24SPEAKER_08: 87th.
- 22:25SPEAKER_08: Boo.
- 22:25SPEAKER_06: And there was only one year.
- 22:26SPEAKER_06: It was in the day, right?
- 22:28SPEAKER_06: I think we tried it two years.
- 22:30SPEAKER_06: We did two years and a lot of back.
- 22:32SPEAKER_08: Yes.
- 22:32SPEAKER_06: Hey, I had little kids.
- 22:34SPEAKER_08: During COVID, we did the day.
- 22:35SPEAKER_08: I liked it too.
- 22:36SPEAKER_08: I think.
- 22:36SPEAKER_08: Yeah, COVID went through the day.
- 22:39SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 22:39SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 22:39SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 22:40SPEAKER_06: We do have a few concerns.
- 22:42SPEAKER_06: Um, this year it is on Halloween, October 31st at 6.15.
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: We still start out at um the Carlinville Plaza, make our way to uh the beautiful Carlinville Square.
- 22:52SPEAKER_06: A couple of concerns from a few parents, I guess, because it's Halloween and uh we will be slightly interfering with trick-or-treating.
- 23:00SPEAKER_06: Trick-or-treating will stay the same.
- 23:02SPEAKER_06: I verified with the city of Carlinville.
- 23:04SPEAKER_06: It will be the 30th and 31st from five to eight.
- 23:07SPEAKER_06: But if you've ever been to this Halloween parade, you're gonna get lots of candy thrown at you.
- 23:12SPEAKER_06: Okay, I just want to say something.
- 23:13SPEAKER_06: Let's work.
- 23:14SPEAKER_05: Yeah, from a parent's point of view.
- 23:16SPEAKER_05: To drive.
- 23:17SPEAKER_05: It's not like when I was little, when my parents just said, head on out, yo, go on down the street.
- 23:22SPEAKER_05: I have to drive these kids, dude, and I'm stopping.
- 23:25SPEAKER_05: I'm I mean, they're in a they're in a car seat.
- 23:27SPEAKER_05: Like it sucks.
- 23:28SPEAKER_05: I'm going to the parade where I just stand and I laugh.
- 23:31SPEAKER_05: It's a one-stop shop for kids.
- 23:34SPEAKER_05: We did.
- 23:34SPEAKER_05: We stood in front of Sol Day and we got chips and salsa.
- 23:37SPEAKER_05: And we me and Stevie last year.
- 23:39SPEAKER_05: And uh or not last year, the year before, because last year you were me and Susan.
- 23:43SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, we're the we were the MCs together.
- 23:47SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 23:48SPEAKER_05: The parade is the place to be.
- 23:50SPEAKER_05: And I do have to say one hilarious story, which you're gonna love.
- 23:53SPEAKER_05: So my Aunt Lynn, you know, she lived in Chicago for 40 plus years, okay.
- 23:58SPEAKER_05: I mean, straight up City Girl.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: She comes here with her husband.
- 24:01SPEAKER_05: He never lived out of the city, and they come to Halloween parade.
- 24:04SPEAKER_05: Okay, they're just they never seen anything like this in their lives.
- 24:07SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 24:08SPEAKER_05: But the highlight of the parade to them was the fact that the garbage trucks were in it.
- 24:13SPEAKER_05: They thought that was that they were, you know, think of Chicago down.
- 24:16SPEAKER_05: They're like garbage trucks.
- 24:18SPEAKER_05: They they it was the best thing that she still talks about it to this day.
- 24:22SPEAKER_05: But like, that's so normal to us.
- 24:23SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 24:24SPEAKER_05: You know what I'm saying?
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: Come on, come all.
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: Come one, come all.
- 24:27SPEAKER_05: I mean, that parade is just awesome.
- 24:29SPEAKER_05: And it is really the only nighttime parade, isn't it?
- 24:31SPEAKER_05: As far as I know.
- 24:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 24:32SPEAKER_08: So so what does it mean to our community by having this parade and having this?
- 24:38SPEAKER_08: I mean, we're talking thousands of people that come.
- 24:40SPEAKER_06: Yeah, thousands out of the community.
- 24:43SPEAKER_06: I I think it is just that community.
- 24:45SPEAKER_06: It's nostalgic for a lot of people.
- 24:47SPEAKER_06: 87 years is a long time.
- 24:49SPEAKER_06: With the hundredth anniversary of Route 66, our theme this year is Halloween on Route 66.
- 24:55SPEAKER_06: Um in addition to all of that, I think a few things I'd like to point out that a lot of people don't know.
- 25:00SPEAKER_06: How many years have UMC'd the parade, Susan?
- 25:04SPEAKER_06: No.
- 25:05SPEAKER_06: A lot.
- 25:05SPEAKER_06: A lot of years.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: Um, you get a job and you you she probably said she joined.
- 25:10SPEAKER_04: Are you doing it this year?
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: I am.
- 25:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 25:12SPEAKER_04: She's gonna sing it this year.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: I always do when the the marching bank is dying.
- 25:16SPEAKER_04: She does.
- 25:17SPEAKER_08: See?
- 25:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 25:18SPEAKER_08: You need to sing everyone, all the whole parade.
- 25:20SPEAKER_08: Just sing it all over.
- 25:21SPEAKER_08: Just do it, Susan.
- 25:22SPEAKER_08: Okay.
- 25:22SPEAKER_08: Love it.
- 25:23SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 25:23SPEAKER_06: Well, we'll think about that.
- 25:25SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:26SPEAKER_05: Do you want are you wanting people like last year to come up to the stage?
- 25:30SPEAKER_05: Do we want people to know that that was my point?
- 25:32SPEAKER_06: A lot of people, even to this day, don't know that Susan's up there.
- 25:37SPEAKER_06: And for people who maybe don't have kids that want a cool spot to sit and see the parade go by, and Susan actually announces every entry that goes by and tells a little bit about them.
- 25:49SPEAKER_06: Oh story.
- 25:50SPEAKER_06: Um, that would be a great place to to go.
- 25:52SPEAKER_06: The other thing a lot of people don't know about Rotary is that we actually have royalty.
- 25:57SPEAKER_06: We have the Queen Court, if you will, chosen by their peers from Carlinville High School.
- 26:03SPEAKER_06: There's a representative from the freshman sophomore junior class, and then three uh seniors are chosen from the Carlinville senior class, and then they are voted on by their peers to be the Carlinville Rotary Queen.
- 26:17SPEAKER_06: So that announcement is made uh at the end of the parade.
- 26:20SPEAKER_06: So they all participate in the parade, make their way to Susan to the stage on the square.
- 26:26SPEAKER_06: And we would love for everyone, once that last entry makes its way by, make your way to the square.
- 26:32SPEAKER_06: We'd love to have you there, our rotary queen crowned, and uh we also do a 50-50 drawing, which is fundraising for us as well.
- 26:42SPEAKER_06: 50-50 has always been a big thing, right, Susan?
- 26:44SPEAKER_06: During during the rotary parade.
- 26:47SPEAKER_08: I didn't know you did a 50-50.
- 26:49SPEAKER_08: So do you have people walking through the the parade route selling tickets?
- 26:52SPEAKER_08: We do.
- 26:53SPEAKER_06: We do rotarians.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: Right.
- 26:56SPEAKER_06: So last year with the we had a few tweaks to our our lineup situation, and we had Rotarians out at the plaza actually walking the lineup route selling tickets.
- 27:07SPEAKER_06: So even the entries will will have an opportunity uh to buy tickets.
- 27:12SPEAKER_06: But that announcement is made after the the Rotary Queen is announced on the square.
- 27:17SPEAKER_06: So come on up and find out who wins the big prize.
- 27:23SPEAKER_05: So do you have all your entries already?
- 27:25SPEAKER_06: Or is it last year we initiated online sign up for entry.
- 27:31SPEAKER_06: I would like to mention Matt Gostub was the chair of the Rotary Parade for many, many, many years.
- 27:39SPEAKER_06: And he was kind of a one-man show, and gosh, love him because wow.
- 27:44SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 27:44SPEAKER_08: I remember seeing him walk and do just tons of work.
- 27:48SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 27:49SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 27:50SPEAKER_06: Yep.
- 27:50SPEAKER_06: And he he passed that down, and much like Susan's role as president four times, I said, okay, I'll try.
- 27:58SPEAKER_06: It was it was terrifying.
- 28:00SPEAKER_06: And and yes, definitely a new member, but it was important to me.
- 28:03SPEAKER_06: It was important to my kids, and I wanted to see it continue.
- 28:06SPEAKER_06: It has been quite an undertaking, but lots of great help.
- 28:09SPEAKER_06: A lot of people have have helped me and helped succeed last year.
- 28:13SPEAKER_06: We did start the online signups, and you can find um the link to sign up on our Facebook page.
- 28:19SPEAKER_06: There are lots of flyers out there in the universe right now that you can scan a QR code.
- 28:23SPEAKER_06: Um, we have super cool apparel, uh, great uh design designed by my nephew, Blake McCormick, but also a link for the cubby hole that you can order the apparel.
- 28:34SPEAKER_06: Deadline for that is the 15th of October so that you have it in time for the Halloween parade.
- 28:39SPEAKER_07: Right.
- 28:40SPEAKER_06: And we have probably, I think now about 40 entries.
- 28:45SPEAKER_08: I'll have to make sure we got in there.
- 28:47SPEAKER_06: Last year, COO check with your CEO.
- 28:50SPEAKER_06: So I don't remember seeing it on my list, but that doesn't mean it's true I haven't checked it in a day or so.
- 28:55SPEAKER_06: Last year we ended up with 67 entries, and that didn't count the few people that didn't get the message that they needed to sign up in advance.
- 29:05SPEAKER_06: So we did not we don't turn anyone away.
- 29:07SPEAKER_06: Everyone is assigned a spot, a a line of a chance.
- 29:10SPEAKER_06: Did a really good job last year.
- 29:11SPEAKER_06: You really did.
- 29:12SPEAKER_06: That went wow.
- 29:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, thank you.
- 29:14SPEAKER_08: I've been out there in years where it's just show up and it was.
- 29:18SPEAKER_08: It makes it easier for the MCs to know who's coming through in order.
- 29:23SPEAKER_05: I also think it's very important very important to place where to place the bands.
- 29:27SPEAKER_05: That is a thing, don't you think?
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: You've got to make sure that's Ken Reed.
- 29:31SPEAKER_06: That is Ken Reed's specialty.
- 29:34SPEAKER_06: Ken would know.
- 29:35SPEAKER_06: He knows where to filter them in.
- 29:37SPEAKER_06: Um, he is very intrical in procuring the marching bands, which for me is my favorite part.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: Last year we had five, five, four, five.
- 29:48SPEAKER_06: Love it.
- 29:49SPEAKER_06: This this year, we're not exactly sure how many we have, but I do want to point out that we do pay the marching bands to come and participate because we know that they incur a big cost in bringing them.
- 30:02SPEAKER_08: So we pay five hundred dollars to so any marching bands out there get a hold of the rotary.
- 30:09SPEAKER_06: If they can get a hold of us, we did have to cap it at four marching bands this year.
- 30:14SPEAKER_06: Doesn't mean more can't participate, but our funds are only going to get up there fast allow us.
- 30:20SPEAKER_06: But if we can sell lots more pork burgers and pork chop sandwiches this year, um we can have more marching bands.
- 30:27SPEAKER_06: So there there is a cost involved for Rotary to be able to do this, and and it's important to us to be able to continue that.
- 30:35SPEAKER_06: There is also I'd like to share.
- 30:38SPEAKER_06: Um, last year we created the award for the best in parade, and it's the Matt Gazda Best in Parade.
- 30:48SPEAKER_06: Um so we want to encourage everyone to make plans for those brag and rights, get that float ready to go because uh we're we're ready to see what everyone has this year.
- 30:58SPEAKER_06: And this one's a creative theme because you can interpret anyway in many different ways.
- 31:04SPEAKER_05: I'm excited for that too.
- 31:05SPEAKER_05: It is a very great thing.
- 31:06SPEAKER_08: Well, and it's exciting that it's on Halloween.
- 31:08SPEAKER_08: It is, yes, you know, because it doesn't happen all the time.
- 31:11SPEAKER_06: Nope.
- 31:12SPEAKER_08: You know, and so very special.
- 31:13SPEAKER_08: That that is amazing for that.
- 31:15SPEAKER_08: So, Shannon Susan, so much great information coming from the two of you.
- 31:20SPEAKER_08: I we love that you've been in here.
- 31:22SPEAKER_08: Anything the listeners need to remember about the rotary.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we meet Thursdays at noon.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: Come join us.
- 31:30SPEAKER_04: Um we'd love to have some new members, young and old, um, especially young, but we'd love to grow our membership.
- 31:37SPEAKER_04: We we have a lot of fun.
- 31:38SPEAKER_08: Right.
- 31:39SPEAKER_04: We're not just uh a service organization, but we we are a family and we have a lot of fun.
- 31:44SPEAKER_08: How and who can they contact?
- 31:46SPEAKER_08: Is there a website?
- 31:47SPEAKER_08: Is there I know a Facebook page you said?
- 31:49SPEAKER_08: Is that just the Halloween parade Facebook page?
- 31:51SPEAKER_06: It is the Cargo Rotary Facebook page.
- 31:53SPEAKER_06: We can have an email address as well, they can email us.
- 31:58SPEAKER_08: All right, awesome.
- 31:59SPEAKER_08: So any last things people need to remember about the Halloween parade?
- 32:03SPEAKER_08: No kids, get towards the square.
- 32:05SPEAKER_08: With kids, after the parade, make your way to the square.
- 32:07SPEAKER_06: That would be great.
- 32:08SPEAKER_06: Good job.
- 32:10SPEAKER_08: I listen.
- 32:10SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I do listen.
- 32:11SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but you put it, you put it simply to people.
- 32:14SPEAKER_06: I try.
- 32:15SPEAKER_08: I try.
- 32:15SPEAKER_06: Get your orders in for your school, Halloween apparel, hoodies, crew necks, long sleeve t-shirts, short sleeve t-shirts, available in white, orange, or black.
- 32:25SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah.
- 32:26SPEAKER_06: Get those registrations in for your entries.
- 32:28SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 32:29SPEAKER_08: Be in the parade.
- 32:30SPEAKER_08: The parade lines up at the plaza.
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: At the plaza.
- 32:32SPEAKER_08: What time do you have to be there to line up?
- 32:34SPEAKER_06: Well, we're gonna start at four o'clock.
- 32:36SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_08: Four o'clock lines.
- 32:37SPEAKER_06: Four o'clock and years past.
- 32:40SPEAKER_06: 6 15.
- 32:41SPEAKER_08: Thank you.
- 32:42SPEAKER_06: Years past.
- 32:42SPEAKER_06: Lots of folks like to show up and decorate their float at the plaza, and that doesn't work out as well with our new system.
- 32:52SPEAKER_06: So we are encouraging people to maybe do most of the work before before four o'clock if they can.
- 32:58SPEAKER_06: I know finishing touches is one thing.
- 33:00SPEAKER_06: You can put the finishing touches on it, but with the new lineup system that did make it a little bit more difficult.
- 33:06SPEAKER_06: We're tweaking a few things this year.
- 33:08SPEAKER_06: We're gonna make it even more hopefully streamlined and user-friendly.
- 33:12SPEAKER_06: But yeah, four o'clock, and there will be lots of help out there pointing everyone in the direction that they need to go.
- 33:19SPEAKER_06: Pay attention to your information, email information you're gonna get if you've registered prior to that.
- 33:25SPEAKER_08: As I say, once you register, you'll get in the loop then.
- 33:28SPEAKER_06: You'll you'll be in the loop.
- 33:29SPEAKER_06: You will be text a number for your lineup spot, but paying attention to the directions on how to enter out at the plaza.
- 33:37SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 33:38SPEAKER_08: Um, because yes, and which entrance to bring it up.
- 33:40SPEAKER_06: It was a little bit difficult last year.
- 33:42SPEAKER_05: Um so yeah, and and I know for a fact that's good.
- 33:44SPEAKER_05: We'll get all this out and hopefully people.
- 33:46SPEAKER_08: I know for a fact we're gonna be trying to have some of the potholes filled before then with all the regrind that we have around the back and in the front.
- 33:52SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, shout out to Carlum Plaza because that parking lot out front is fantastic.
- 33:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's very nice.
- 34:00SPEAKER_06: And yeah, yeah, if the back could look like that too, that'd be super good.
- 34:05SPEAKER_08: We're gonna take the regrind and get the holes filled for now, and hopefully that helps, you know, and yes, because we can use that space as well.
- 34:12SPEAKER_06: I'd love to.
- 34:13SPEAKER_08: Shannon Susan, thank you both for joining us today.
- 34:16SPEAKER_08: I think this is a perfect example what this podcast is all about.
- 34:19SPEAKER_08: We're talking about people who are willing to give their time, their energy, and their resources to make their communities better.
- 34:26SPEAKER_08: And that's what organizations like the Carnival Rotary Club are about, right?
- 34:30SPEAKER_08: And whether it's supporting local projects, helping organizations, investing in young people, or bringing an entire community together for an incredible event like the Nighttime Halloween Parade, it's all comes down to people willing to step up and make a difference.
- 34:43SPEAKER_08: And if you haven't experienced the Carlville Halloween parade, you definitely put it in your calendar for Halloween, October 31st.
- 34:50SPEAKER_08: If you didn't know Halloween was on the 31st, Carlomville from the plaza all the way to the square on the north part there on Route 4, for those coming on the highway, so they know that, right?
- 35:00SPEAKER_08: Hey, a nighttime, you know, hype up the Halloween parade is something pretty special.
- 35:05SPEAKER_08: It's a great example of what's happening when a community comes together 87 years worth and making something bigger than any one individual.
- 35:12SPEAKER_08: So get involved today.
- 35:14SPEAKER_08: Show up, support your local organizations, support your local businesses, and most importantly, support the people in your community who are willing to do that work.
- 35:22SPEAKER_08: And of course, a big thank you to our 10x partners and official drink sponsor, SIPS Coffee, at all three of their locations.
