Transcript
- 0:00Hello there. It's most things Kenobi.
- 0:04This is the podcast you're looking for.
- 0:20Hi everyone, welcome to another episode of most things Kenobi.
- 0:23A podcast about Obi-Wan Kenobi and all things Star Wars.
- 0:26I'm your host Lauren, and I'm your host Leanne, and this week,
- 0:31we are discussing our favorite quotes.
- 0:34Yes. And bonus material.
- 0:38Our most hated quotes that which we added later because we were
- 0:43going to just talk about our favorites.
- 0:45But then, Lauren's, like maybe we should throw in our least
- 0:47favorite and I was like, okay, and Lisa.
- 0:49One I have I have to I do too. Okay, good.
- 0:54Alright, sweet. So we earn it.
- 0:56Be funny if they're the same one.
- 0:58I wonder there's there's like nine films to choose from.
- 1:03Yeah. Yeah yeah.
- 1:04There's quite a bit of material is hard to choose my favorites
- 1:07to I know my first my top favorite quote of all time.
- 1:10Yes and then the second one it was a tie.
- 1:13So I'll tell you my tie, I guess I have three favorites but I
- 1:17kind of do too. But one is more like a Our
- 1:20station that I like so it's not like a quotes.
- 1:22It's kind of like an honorable mention at the end.
- 1:24Oh, I like this. Okay.
- 1:26Well let's get into it then. Do you want to start or shall I?
- 1:29You can start. Okay.
- 1:32Could you guess that this is my favorite quote in all of Star
- 1:35Wars? I think it's the one I'm
- 1:37reminded of often most often in my own life because I need
- 1:41reminded of it. Fear is the path to the dark
- 1:45side. Fear leads to anger, anger leads
- 1:48to hate, hate leads to suffering.
- 1:50Yeah, came from Yoda himself talking to Anakin and I love it
- 1:57because if you think about each of its parts, it's so true.
- 2:02Mmm, fear often leads to anger. I mean, think of things that you
- 2:07don't understand, right? It can often.
- 2:10If you don't understand it, you get angry.
- 2:12Like, if you To understand a problem or you don't understand
- 2:15how to fix something. What's the very next thing you
- 2:17get kind of frustrated, right angry?
- 2:20But anger leading to hate, absolutely.
- 2:22We see this across the planet and he just leads to suffering.
- 2:26I mean, it in this aspect, it was obviously meant, you know,
- 2:31the dark side. All of this goes to the dark
- 2:33side Anakin eventually turns to the dark side because he let
- 2:36fear control him and it led to his ultimate lifelong suffering,
- 2:42but it's so applicable. Every day, anger is a natural.
- 2:46Human response is something we all have to, like manage, mmm.
- 2:50We should never let it get to hate and certainly never let it
- 2:54get us into a mode of suffering. So anyway, that's my favorite
- 2:57Star Wars quote. That's a really beautiful quote.
- 3:01I love that and the best kind of media books movies, whatever,
- 3:06other kind of our, it's great in the story but it also applies to
- 3:10our regular lives. And I think yeah that that's
- 3:13It's a really good example of that because living in fear, in
- 3:16a state of fear of any kind of fear is paralyzing.
- 3:20It's a horrible place to be yes. And look at how Anakin suffered
- 3:25so much for the rest of his life, giving into that.
- 3:29It's really heartbreaking. And one of the one of my
- 3:32favorite pictures that they always attached to.
- 3:35This quote is like, Anakin as a child, which is connected to the
- 3:40fear Anakin in, like, as he Coming up as a young Jedi, I
- 3:45guess that Jedi and training. I guess Phantom Menace, not
- 3:48Phantom Menace. Jesus.
- 3:50If I could get my life together, Anakin in the Clone Wars Attack
- 3:55of the Clones, that would be the anger.
- 3:59And the hate is Revenge of the Sith, which eventually leads to
- 4:02the suffering, which is Darth Vader.
- 4:04And it's all very beautifully. He was scared as a child.
- 4:08He let it make him hateful and angry and then eventually the
- 4:11suffering he suffered his Entire the rest of his adult living
- 4:16life. Yeah, just suffered think of
- 4:19your own lives. If there's ever been a time
- 4:21where you were wronged or like something that you were clinging
- 4:26to and you realize that like, you are the only one with the
- 4:29power to like free yourself from that prison.
- 4:33You know, it's like he couldn't forgive Obi-Wan and he couldn't
- 4:36let go of all the anger plus, you know, that a put him in that
- 4:39suit that made it kind of hard to let go of and yanger little
- 4:43It helped to fuel it and like you live in a Your Own Prison.
- 4:48Then when you're clinging to hate and anger, you're the only
- 4:52one who can like forgive and let it go.
- 4:55Yes, you can decide that those things just aren't worth your
- 4:59suffering. That's like the biggest.
- 5:02Most powerful thing you can do for yourself, hatred of another
- 5:07hurts. You more than the person.
- 5:09It's supposed to be directed at yes, especially because they
- 5:12probably, Bibliography thinking about you as much as yours know
- 5:15about them. Exactly, it's funny because if
- 5:19you think about it like after Anakin fell and became Darth
- 5:23Vader, he went on like this quest to kill all the rest of
- 5:25the Jedi, that didn't make it there.
- 5:27That didn't didn't get killed in order 66.
- 5:30He went around just the purred, the jet, the great Jedi Purge
- 5:33right. He hated him so much that he
- 5:36spent like how many years decades focusing only on them
- 5:41like yeah instead of just letting It Go, which I mean,
- 5:44that's not the story, I know but like think of it as yourself
- 5:48instead of just letting it go and freeing yourself from it.
- 5:51He clung to it and kept on like the Jedi took up so much free
- 5:55rent space in his head. Yeah.
- 5:58Long after it wasn't even a like he should have just been like,
- 6:01okay next next. Next level of moving on being.
- 6:06Yeah. Yeah, I always get a kick out of
- 6:10it in A New Hope because like Every other line Vader gives is
- 6:15about Obi-Wan and it's like, dude, this happened a long time
- 6:19ago, like could eat like is he literally on your mind
- 6:22constantly? Yes that must be Agony in who
- 6:28suffer, I mean obviously the Jedi suffered.
- 6:31Yeah and the rebels eventually, you know because like this
- 6:34Palpatine was focused if nothing else, but he was the one who
- 6:39carried around the death of Padme with him.
- 6:41He was the one that carried around The Jedi wronged him and
- 6:44how wrong, you know, how everybody wronged him and all
- 6:48this stuff. And it's just like, man well he
- 6:50has a ripple effect, right? Like yeah, the center of the
- 6:53Ripple and then you just start making everyone around you
- 6:56suffer. When you're that way, well Vader
- 6:59is often written or described. As like, you sent him coming
- 7:02like his Dark Cloud before he even enters the room.
- 7:04That's somebody who has some negative shit around them.
- 7:07Yeah. You wouldn't want to spend time
- 7:09around anybody? Like, no, I mean, think of
- 7:11family members, our friends that you have That like, you know,
- 7:14you're just like, oh God, here they come like though they're
- 7:16showing up at a family party. There's such a downer, you know
- 7:19what I mean? You know, you have someone in
- 7:21your family like that I do. It's just like, oh, it's so get
- 7:24the Darth Vader in the family. No, nobody's that cool in my
- 7:27family but like, and nobody's killed anyone in my family that
- 7:31I know of but, you know, hopefully not no.
- 7:35But I'm pretty sure. I mean we're a docile Bunch but
- 7:37no one has a cool. No one has a cool respirator
- 7:40like that now. Yeah.
- 7:41No capes either I judge Be a, the the swivel that the swish
- 7:45Enos of a cape. And the cape drop.
- 7:48It's very important, the case. The cape drop.
- 7:50Yeah. I mean Kenobi.
- 7:54There's no better traumatic Cape drop than one from Kenobi.
- 7:57Right? Seriously, that mother of the
- 8:00one in Revenge of the Sith is epic.
- 8:02Yeah. There's listen, Revenge of the
- 8:04Sith. Cape drop is mic drop as far as
- 8:07I'm concerned. Like yeah, we could do a whole
- 8:09episode on Cape dropping Mark that down.
- 8:13Add it to the list. Hey, that's mine.
- 8:17How about yours? My favorite one is similar.
- 8:21It's actually a Like A Life Lesson type one that really
- 8:25really resonates with me and it's quite guns.
- 8:28Quote, that your focus determines your reality, just
- 8:31love it. I knew that was coming and it is
- 8:34so applicable to life. It's a life lesson.
- 8:38Like you said, it's so good. It's really true, and it's just
- 8:42been so true in my own. In life, you know.
- 8:44Well, think back to what we were just talking about your focus
- 8:48determines. So, if you think about
- 8:49depressing hateful things, you're gonna be depressing and
- 8:53hateful like yeah, that's going to be your life.
- 8:56It's all you're going to see. So yeah, and Luke.
- 8:59Luke chose to see the good. No.
- 9:02Yeah. His reality was very different
- 9:05than his father's especially and look how it turned out.
- 9:09Yeah. And like they both had really
- 9:11shitty sad. Sad childhoods and they turned
- 9:15out very differently because they have different mentality,
- 9:19you maybe Luke didn't have the fear, you know, he know grew up
- 9:23at least with a family unit that you know, I mean Anakin and his
- 9:26mother, but he still slave and Luke had grumpy Uncle Owen, but
- 9:33he didn't feel all in way doing his very best.
- 9:36Okay. Seriously, Lucas a lot.
- 9:38Okay, he's a lot to handle. I don't deny, but to be like, in
- 9:42my In my past, like I was much more of a negative person, a
- 9:46cynical sarcastic person and I was not very happy.
- 9:51No. And then I had like a big life
- 9:53shift recently and I used to always feel like the Gratitude
- 9:57culture was kind of for you know, hipsters and it was
- 10:00bullshit but it's not actually the more you focus on your
- 10:05gratitude and focus on the things that make you happy and
- 10:09make that the center of your focus, your reality.
- 10:13Is in line with that and you don't necessarily believe it
- 10:16till you do it. You know.
- 10:17It can seem kind of like bullshit, but it's really not.
- 10:20And so I just love that about Qui-Gon because it's not about
- 10:23the code, right? And it's not an uptight thing.
- 10:27It's like giving you the ultimate power truly, because if
- 10:32you have the power to control your thoughts and your reality,
- 10:35you can handle. All kinds of situations that
- 10:38come up with more grace, you know, without, like losing your
- 10:43Shit, totally, which, you know, we're allowed to do that.
- 10:46That's fine. It's okay.
- 10:47If that happens to you, we're not always pretty I've read
- 10:50something once. It's like it's not all fucking
- 10:52rainbows and Narnia know when you, when you're like a
- 10:56positivity person or like a, it's true gratitude person.
- 11:00It's not that every day know, you have bad days.
- 11:04So but at least, you know, you have tools to help you work
- 11:07through those days, that's what it is.
- 11:09And I didn't learn that until I met you, you held.
- 11:13Help me when I was in a negative place.
- 11:15And you told me about practice, more gratitude and positive,
- 11:18affirmations and things. And I was like, okay, well I
- 11:21haven't tried it. So I can't rule it out, right?
- 11:23And it literally helped so much and that makes me happy.
- 11:29I'm glad I'm yeah, you've helped me so much.
- 11:35Well, you have helped me to, I mean, I was really emotional
- 11:40tissue box. Do this every time this
- 11:44happened, but no trying to our teacups.
- 11:47Yeah, but I mean I had I was the same, I was in a really shitty
- 11:51place and I felt like, well, I've never tried this, so I
- 11:56can't really discredit it until I try it.
- 11:58So I tried it and there was a huge shift for me, mentally, not
- 12:01overnight though, that shit don't work.
- 12:04It does it take enough daily practice?
- 12:06It's not but can't really ever stop.
- 12:09Yeah, well, it's like working out.
- 12:10If you only do it every once in a while, it's not really gonna.
- 12:13Amount judge but that the dedication and the consistency
- 12:16is what really racks it up. So yeah and I don't have any
- 12:19problem striving to be more like Qui gonn know whether it's the
- 12:25hair. Oh yeah fine hair goals.
- 12:28Yeah sorry. I went to the shallow part but
- 12:33he has Luscious Hair in that in that moved us here.
- 12:36I don't care if it's a weave, I don't care if it's a is a better
- 12:39we've than Obi-Wan had an attack of the Clones.
- 12:41We've been over this. Yep, that's a good quote.
- 12:45I love that one me too. I could get that one tattooed.
- 12:48I think and not feel regret. No, that would be a constant
- 12:52reminder, in your face all the time of you had it in, like, you
- 12:55know, place where I could refer to it often exactly to remind me
- 12:59what I'm having those moments when I'm being negative or
- 13:01depressed? Well, what's your next one?
- 13:05Well, my next one is at I like I said I mean and it's because of
- 13:10the poignancy of the moment the the one that Is my second
- 13:14favorite that I'm going with is because I love everything.
- 13:18It stands for. But what it's tied with I'll get
- 13:20to it, but my second favorite quote is from Luke Skywalker
- 13:24himself in Return of the Jedi, when he says, after he tosses
- 13:28that lightsaber. Never, I'll never turn to the
- 13:32dark side. You failed your highness.
- 13:34I am a Jedi like my father before me.
- 13:37That's my second one too. No shit isn't really the fuck
- 13:42up. I do not expect But your it is
- 13:45that's that's 100% my shut up. Well, let's talk about why it's
- 13:49so good. We did not turn this back,
- 13:54obviously a moment girl. I got it's so good though.
- 13:58It is. It's just it's like yes, I'm so
- 14:02glad this is yours to. Yeah, it's so good.
- 14:06I mean, if you're not familiar with Star Wars out there just
- 14:11look up. This moment, you don't.
- 14:13Need to see all three movies. I mean, you should, but just
- 14:16look this up, because look it up if you have seen Star Wars
- 14:20because it gives you a moment of power.
- 14:21It's everything that Star Wars is and how like, how Mark Hamill
- 14:26was able to do that with a straight face and like give it
- 14:30so much depth of meaning. Even though it's yeah, kind of
- 14:32like a little bit dramatic, like a little melodramatic.
- 14:35He does it. So beautifully controls his
- 14:38voice. You could go in there like never
- 14:42bitch. I'll never Turn to the dark
- 14:44side. You dumbass.
- 14:46I mean obviously they're not going to swear but like he could
- 14:49have put more sass into it, but just like Luke Skywalker.
- 14:51He's controlled. He's and he's even polite.
- 14:55He says you failed your highness, period, Point Blank,
- 14:59period? You failed your highness.
- 15:01I'm a Jedi like my father before me who he's laying on the ground
- 15:05or maybe he stands like the Monica Light little bitch slap
- 15:08ever. And it's like, I'm so glad you
- 15:11tried for the past how many decades to Pretend that this man
- 15:14wasn't a Jedi, but guess what? Yeah, I just reminded everyone
- 15:18in this room that he was. Yeah, I love the cinematography
- 15:23and that moment to because all through that scene Luke's face
- 15:26is like mostly in Shadow. Yeah.
- 15:28And he as he says never and stands up straight and he throws
- 15:32the lightsaber and takes a step forward and his faces in all
- 15:35light. Yes.
- 15:37And that's when he's first time fully lit.
- 15:39All light, completely committed to the Light Side.
- 15:43Yes, That's when his little collar has fallen open and you
- 15:46see the light interior of his collar and a shirt, you know,
- 15:51and it's just like all these little things that make it so
- 15:54perfect. It's the poignancy of it all.
- 15:56It's just, it's such a beautiful moment and like, I don't feel
- 15:59like any other actor could have done it, quite perfectly, like,
- 16:03Marquette was so perfect in that moment.
- 16:06Yes. And it's such a good moment,
- 16:08it's just like finally, Luke is just in his full power to stand
- 16:12there and is like is willing to accept whatever is coming
- 16:15because you can't say something like that and expect it to go.
- 16:18Well, for you. Oh no, not at all.
- 16:20I just I don't, it's just it's all that sum of all the parts,
- 16:24right? But this big moment and and
- 16:27like, I love how he stands up. I mean, he straightens his back.
- 16:31I mean he's like you said committed that?
- 16:33Yeah, it's so good. I'm so proud of our boy in that
- 16:36moment. Can you imagine Vader laying
- 16:38there just like the fuck? The kids stood up for me.
- 16:42Someone stood up for me like finally.
- 16:46Yeah. After being a doormat for 40
- 16:48years. I wonder if he was afraid for
- 16:50him. Oh without a doubt.
- 16:52I mean it took him a terribly knew what was coming?
- 16:56Yeah. I mean it took it took him a
- 16:57second. He did the whole like head turn,
- 16:59you know, the they focus. I love that part though.
- 17:03He's looking at Luke and then he turns his head and he's looking
- 17:06at Palpatine and he turns his head like in this whole thing
- 17:08like you know the Cinematic of it all.
- 17:11Yeah, this the Cinematic traits of it all, but when you just
- 17:15need to like lightning reflecting off of his helmet
- 17:18helmet. Yeah, it's really good.
- 17:20It's really good. It was probably a lot for him to
- 17:22process. Yeah.
- 17:24That was the moment. It was like the fork in the road
- 17:26right there. It's like you're either gonna
- 17:28let history repeat itself or you gonna do something different and
- 17:32save this person and he finally made the right choice.
- 17:36Yeah, I don't lady broke so long long time, right?
- 17:40But it took his Is damn, son. His kid.
- 17:43Yeah, a reflection of his wife. It's so good.
- 17:47It's particularly poignant because, you know, previously
- 17:50when he'd had encounters with Luke, he was trying to turn him
- 17:54for his own benefit and it took like pushing all of the
- 17:57characters to this moments that Anakin was finally in mentally
- 18:01the right place. Hmm.
- 18:03Because before he would have just been trying to save Luke
- 18:06for selfish reasons. Yeah.
- 18:08And now he's saving him because this Wrong and I can't let this
- 18:12happen and he hasn't made a decision like that since he was
- 18:16a Jedi, you know, right. Twenty years ago or however long
- 18:20it was and in the Clone Wars probably was one of the last
- 18:24times he made a decision like that, you know, in my head
- 18:28Canon, I like to think maybe he saw a bit of padmé in there son.
- 18:32Mmm, standing up for what was right Against All Odds.
- 18:35Mmm. And like, if he had a chance
- 18:37again, he wouldn't allow his wife to die and that was a piece
- 18:40of his wife. Wife.
- 18:41Yeah. Not that he's not saving Luke
- 18:43but like it's the only connection to their family
- 18:47structure that he wanted so badly.
- 18:48Anyway. Yeah.
- 18:50And here's like a representation of what he as a Jedi knight in
- 18:54the Clone Wars represented and what Padme in the Senate
- 18:58represented. And, you know, we just had a
- 19:00long conversation in our episode from last week about why Padme
- 19:04was so wonderful because she stood up for the I mean, against
- 19:07whatever came at her, she always tried to do the right.
- 19:11And so, I like to think in my head Canon that he was reminded
- 19:14of that in that moment as well. Like it was probably I don't
- 19:18like the head turn of him. Like, do I save my son or not?
- 19:21I don't think it's that. I like to think like I have a
- 19:23lot of emotions right now that I haven't processed for about 40
- 19:26years, but I'm going to throw this guy over the balcony anyway
- 19:28because I fucking hate him and that's my son.
- 19:31It's the hesitation for me, that's the 40 Years of.
- 19:37I haven't been able to process any of my emotions and now it's
- 19:40now or never like, well, maybe part of it is that, like, he
- 19:44could never have gotten away with it before Palpatine.
- 19:47Would have always seen him coming and right now he's a
- 19:50little distracted through just a little.
- 19:53Yeah. And because Vader gets up, drags
- 19:56himself up and walks over next to him.
- 19:57He thinks, yeah, my dog is back where he's supposed to be on his
- 20:01way. Leash.
- 20:02And so he's not even paying attention.
- 20:05So it's like the, it's like now or never.
- 20:06Literally, like, if I don't do it now, there's never gonna be
- 20:09another chance to break free of this guy.
- 20:13Yeah, it's a great moment and to do it for his son, I just love
- 20:15it. So, what was your tie?
- 20:18My tie. It doesn't compare to this, but
- 20:20it is one of my favorite quotes if we're just doing it for
- 20:25quotes, and not like the, like we said, like the whole scene.
- 20:28Mmm, it's actually Padme. So this is how democracy dies,
- 20:34right? With thunderous Applause.
- 20:36Yes, that always gives me chills and she says it like with the
- 20:41the one-time Natalie Portman betrays, something rather
- 20:47perfectly sorry Nat but she does like the like cocky shoulder
- 20:54head thing. Like because everyone's just
- 20:58buying into the bullshit except for her bail.
- 21:01Well, who's with her? Yeah.
- 21:03So this is how it ends with thunderous Applause.
- 21:05And like, if that isn't representative of nowadays, I
- 21:10don't know what is so, I like that, quote, the quote a lot,
- 21:13because it's very applicable. Yeah, and I do think about that
- 21:17often. Every time I see that gift or
- 21:19like something with a meme when it like that, I always want to
- 21:22cheer because it's, who on point for nowadays.
- 21:26So yeah, yeah. It's particularly chilling in
- 21:29our current political. Climate, yes.
- 21:33So, I mean, while there's no competition with the massiveness
- 21:37of Luke's, you know, but if we only had to choose to it's
- 21:39definitely I would throw that in there as an honorable mention.
- 21:42Yeah. Yeah.
- 21:43That one is good. The one that I the my like it's
- 21:46not even at. I just something that I do
- 21:48deeply love. And again it's not like these
- 21:50other moments where they're more like yeah meaningful.
- 21:53But I guess it is kind of I love the scene between Luke and Leia.
- 21:57When he's saying the force is strong.
- 21:59In my family, I have it. My father has it in my My sister
- 22:02has it and that is just so beautiful, so good.
- 22:07Like, you're my sister. And I was like, love.
- 22:11It's an important moment where they start to, like, really
- 22:14realize how connected they are. And I just love that quiet, soft
- 22:19conversation, Luke talks, like a normal person, kind of, he does
- 22:23lay is the only one that he can really talk to like that.
- 22:26And that, and we even see that in other ways, maybe even in the
- 22:30sequel Trilogy. Like, they're the only, It can
- 22:32they can level with each other. Yeah.
- 22:34They're they're honest with one another even in a way that Han
- 22:37and Leia can't be and Han and Luke like they all have very
- 22:40special relationships but they do Luke and Leia have that level
- 22:45of being action Stars next to each other.
- 22:48But also, having these deeply personal conversations, like,
- 22:52you know, Han and Luke really care about each other.
- 22:55But you've never see a moment where they have, like a quiet
- 22:58deep conversation with each other.
- 23:00I don't know if Hot whatever. Even allow a moment like that
- 23:03with another person. I know the closest you get is
- 23:06him with his son, really and then there's that short
- 23:09conversation with Leia in force awakens.
- 23:12Hmm, I just love that very personal moment for both of them
- 23:16where he wants to hear about his mother and she's having these
- 23:20like realizations like wait, if Vader's your father that means
- 23:24he's also my father. Like what?
- 23:26Right. Yeah.
- 23:27And she that is not easy for her to swallow no at all.
- 23:31All. I mean, I mean he actually
- 23:34physically tortured her in a new hope.
- 23:36They cut that scene out of the movie Opera.
- 23:39Yes, that also, that's kind of a big thing, everyone.
- 23:42She loves made her watch. Yeah.
- 23:45It was not a good entry was not a good introduction.
- 23:50Yeah. To one another and she had to
- 23:52live with that. That's I mean, it's essentially
- 23:54why she didn't really use the force willingly.
- 23:57I mean, she trained for a while we know that, but it was why she
- 24:00abandoned it too. Yeah, I'm just Just if there was
- 24:02a chance of her turning into Vader, she wanted nothing to do
- 24:04with it, you know. Yeah, very, it's very beautiful
- 24:08moment but it also has all these layers of meaning it's not.
- 24:12That's what I love about Star Wars is, it's always kind of
- 24:15Bittersweet. There's this beautiful thing as
- 24:17depth and then there's this like horrible realization of your
- 24:21truth and your reality that comes with that.
- 24:24That's why we love all the pain. That's why we're here.
- 24:29So we love just suffer. Actually the quote was never
- 24:36hate leads to suffering and Star Wars leads to suffering.
- 24:40Forget, forget hate and it does Li love.
- 24:43Yeah. Well, a lot of people, they feel
- 24:45lot of hate about Star Wars, but well, that's true too.
- 24:49I'm probably going to get some hate for my least favorite.
- 24:53Quote Choice. Oh, well, I'm we probably both
- 24:56will. It's fine.
- 24:58Well, what's your least favorite?
- 24:59Now I'm desperate to hear. I have, I the minute I heard
- 25:04this in the theater, I damn near got up and walked out.
- 25:08I was at that point. Anyway, at this point, for other
- 25:12reasons, but I was just like, are you serious?
- 25:16Okay, it's in the Last Jedi and this has nothing to do with
- 25:22Kelly. Marie Tran, okay?
- 25:24It's the writing, not the actress is she's adorable, quote
- 25:28is I love her. Yeah, she's no hate to her.
- 25:31Ever, but it is her line and it is, that's how we're going to
- 25:36win this, not fighting what we hate saving, what we love that
- 25:41really made my skin crawl. I get, I get what they were
- 25:46trying to do with that, but it fell flat and it is enough, so
- 25:51wrong. God, I've know where that just
- 25:54is opening up a whole other thing of, like, things wrong
- 25:57with that movie. But there's, there's so many
- 25:59examples of why this This quote is just wrong.
- 26:03Like, yeah, I just got done saying that.
- 26:06You don't want to hate anything, but when something threatens
- 26:09something you love, right? Yeah.
- 26:11You have to fight against something that's threatening
- 26:14what you love. I mean, it also kind of plays on
- 26:17like, femininity is saving. What we love and masculinity is
- 26:20fighting, which I also don't like mmm.
- 26:23Not fighting what we hate. Saving what we love.
- 26:25Okay, but you can do, you can do both.
- 26:28It's not it's not like one or the other.
- 26:30Yeah, it's Simplistic. I just really hate it and I
- 26:34really hate like the moment it was awkward.
- 26:37It was weak. It was too fluffy for whatever,
- 26:40and then, and then it was made worse because that actual
- 26:43relationship that she wanted with Finn never went anywhere.
- 26:46And so that fell flat as well. And the whole thing is a mess.
- 26:49I just when I heard that I was just like really though it's one
- 26:53of the many things in the sequel's were it just comes out
- 26:56of fucking nowhere and then doesn't do anything.
- 27:01Yeah. I just, Mmm.
- 27:03Yeah, that's cringey. It's real cringey.
- 27:07Mine is much simpler. What is it?
- 27:11Mine is the same moment that we talked about earlier with Luke
- 27:15and Vader. And the emperor yet how in the
- 27:18new edits they added Vader. Going no.
- 27:25I hate it so much. I hate it so much.
- 27:30It's like doubling down on something that's bad to begin
- 27:35with Vader. Waking up and going.
- 27:37Where's Pat? Maher.
- 27:38Is she all right? And then stepping to the edge of
- 27:41the platform and going wrong. It's so fucking stupid and then
- 27:47it's pretty bad. Was like George, Lucas being
- 27:49like. Well you didn't like it there,
- 27:50guess what? I'm gonna add it to the best
- 27:52scene of Star Wars and see what you think that's Yeah, it was,
- 27:56that's not a good choice, not a good choice.
- 27:59It causes me physical pain every time I because I forget it's in
- 28:03there when I'm watching it on Disney plus I forget and then
- 28:06the end of that scene comes up and Vader screams.
- 28:09No, and I just hate it. So yeah, it's yeah.
- 28:13It's it was a bad choice. It was really bad.
- 28:17It's embarrassing to a see. I'm like, I'm embarrassed for
- 28:22the movies sake. Like Like it's just leave it
- 28:27alone. I want to just save it from that
- 28:29self. Like yeah why did you touch
- 28:30something? That was perfect.
- 28:32What you want to throw it away? Wow I want to take this moving,
- 28:35throw it off a balcony. Yeah then like I don't I also
- 28:40really dislike the I don't like sand line.
- 28:44Well that's just that's implied. It's really awful and pointless
- 28:49and terrible and it's but you know, my second most cringy like
- 28:54worse. Quote is it's also in Attack of
- 28:57the attack of the Clones. It's when Anakin and padmé or by
- 29:01the fire and it my God, you're dead.
- 29:03Yes. That was the tie for the.
- 29:04I don't like sand conversation to me.
- 29:07The whole conversation could just be thrown into the fire and
- 29:10never never remembered again, but it's the part of believe me.
- 29:13I wish I could just wish away my feelings.
- 29:16Anakin honey. I love you, but I wish I could
- 29:21just wish away my feelings, bitch, you can't.
- 29:24Can't use wish twice when you're trying to say you could, you
- 29:28would you don't understand what wish me.
- 29:30I wish I could wish, but I can't wish.
- 29:33So I wish I can twist because I don't that's right out there but
- 29:39they really shitty dialogue and Revenge of the Sith where she's
- 29:44like fake brushing her hair at first of all.
- 29:47Oh you know brush curls, you don't brush them.
- 29:50You don't blush Crush girls. Okay.
- 29:52She's standing. Those kind of curls.
- 29:54No, not Hers, not the ones. She had.
- 29:56No, you don't touch this with a brush.
- 29:58She's brushing her hair and he says something like, I'm so in
- 30:02love with you and she's like, love has blinded you.
- 30:05It's just like the worst dialogue.
- 30:08You say like I love you but no, I love you more.
- 30:10It's one of those moments. I'm just like stopped.
- 30:13Yes, it is excruciating and it's not how people really talk to
- 30:18each other but no, yeah, it would have been it would have
- 30:22been okay if you just stood there, Don't lie, wistfully
- 30:26admiring. Her beauty.
- 30:27Yes. And said nothing at all.
- 30:29Yes, less is more. You ever have that moment?
- 30:31Where you just look at someone? Yeah, yeah.
- 30:34And you realize like how much you love them.
- 30:36And yes it's it's there's this line in Emma.
- 30:41The Jane Austen novel where the hero says to the heroin.
- 30:47If I Loved You Less. Maybe I could talk about it more
- 30:51and it's because his feelings are so strong he can can't even
- 30:55talk about it. Like he can't profusely confess
- 30:59his love because it's too valuable, it's to meaningful to
- 31:03give cheap language to it. That's that's actually
- 31:06beautiful. It is Jane Austen because Jane
- 31:09Austen is fucking Jane. Aurelius There's no competition
- 31:14Overture. Whoever wrote a tech, they were
- 31:17not Jane Austen, so was not done well and it was just fucking
- 31:25awful, you know. We don't want to, we don't want
- 31:28to be too negative but there you go.
- 31:30No no no. These are just lines that are
- 31:32just like come on or or just leave them out.
- 31:35Yeah. Well I posted something like
- 31:37that. The other day is like they cut
- 31:39out the scene from Revenge of the Sith were 0.
- 31:41B. 1 goes to pass. Add me and says like yes, I know
- 31:44that you've had these feelings and I was quiet about it because
- 31:47it was so meaningful and valuable to the two of you.
- 31:50They cut that scene but they leave in the scene where
- 31:53Anakin's talking about sand getting everywhere.
- 31:57Yes, being yeah, kitschy and Scratchy.
- 32:01I saw what you put on Instagram that quote is wonderful, and
- 32:05would have added so much, because we all knew Obi-Wan knew
- 32:10about them. Yeah.
- 32:11He also respected Loved the both of them and it was probably very
- 32:15hard for him to look away but he knew because he'd been through
- 32:17it. Yes.
- 32:18And it shows how much he cared about Anakin that.
- 32:22He absolutely. I don't know why.
- 32:24It wasn't left in. It was so important to him that
- 32:27Anakin was happy. He turned a blind eye because he
- 32:30just wanted his Padawan to have something that brought him joy
- 32:34and and balance had met could do what?
- 32:36No one else could. Yeah.
- 32:38In helping Anakin be that happy. Ultimately it was the biggest
- 32:41mistake. Out of all of them, but like,
- 32:44that's what made it an even more powerful.
- 32:47See. Yes, yes, yes, yes.
- 32:49Well, there you have it, folks, where's leads?
- 32:54Yeah. Star Wars leads to suffering.
