- 1:46Speaker 5: Not necessarily an all day rain or storm event, but
- 1:49Speaker 5: you're gonna see these pop up showers come in from
- 1:51Speaker 5: time to time. It's pretty heavy ones rolled through the
- 1:53Speaker 5: Charleston area within the last thirty to forty five minutes
- 1:55Speaker 5: or so, and that it's likely to continue throughout the day.

- 2:14Speaker 5: goes along with it, with the concerts and the street

- 2:19Speaker 5: of money rolling into the town as well. Tim Brady

- 2:38Speaker 5: Commissioner Lance Wheeler. How you doing, man, I'm doing well.
- 2:41Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 2:42Speaker 5: You got caught in one of those rainstorms, she told me.
- 2:44Speaker 6: Yeah, I was actually putting the two girls to go
- 2:47Speaker 6: to daycare in the truck and that rain came down quick,
- 2:50Speaker 6: and you know, I took it like a champ.
- 2:51Speaker 3: That's what a dad does.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Yeah, but I see when they're a little bit older.
- 2:54Speaker 5: And this is why it's probably a good thing I'm
- 2:56Speaker 5: not a father, because when they're a little bit older,
- 2:59Speaker 5: you could say, get the truck ready for dad.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Well, I think Aubrey would do that, but she's three
- 3:05Speaker 6: and I'd be afraid she might take off.
- 3:07Speaker 5: Well, that's true. So you don't want to get to
- 3:09Speaker 5: you know, to get tamped with grand theft auto at
- 3:11Speaker 5: three years old. That's what that we would do in
- 3:13Speaker 5: southern West Virginia. That's not a Knawk county. I don't
- 3:17Speaker 5: want to talk to you about today, And anyone that
- 3:20Speaker 5: knows me, Commission knows I'm an animal lover one thousand percent.
- 3:24Speaker 5: But we're just come out that the fixed Charleston clinic
- 3:27Speaker 5: that offered low cost veterinary services will be closing. What
- 3:31Speaker 5: can you tell us about that.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Well, i'd say they're closing.
- 3:33Speaker 6: I think they're refocusing their interest and trying to help
- 3:37Speaker 6: out the fostering and the adoption animals. You know, it's
- 3:42Speaker 6: getting a lot more expensive to run just about anything
- 3:45Speaker 6: these days, and the animal shelters no different, and so
- 3:48Speaker 6: they're looking at what they can do with the adoption
- 3:51Speaker 6: and the fostering and making sure they're focusing on those
- 3:54Speaker 6: those animals and taking care of them. The walk in clinic,
- 3:58Speaker 6: I think they're going to take away some of you know,
- 4:00Speaker 6: push back some of those resources. But you know, when
- 4:03Speaker 6: Bethinite Havily, the executive director, called me and told me this,
- 4:06Speaker 6: I immediately had a concern for low cost spae and neuter.
- 4:10Speaker 6: You know, this isn't the spade neuter for the adoption
- 4:12Speaker 6: and the fostering, but the walk ins. And we have
- 4:16Speaker 6: a lot of activists, I will call them. We have
- 4:18Speaker 6: a lot of community activists. We have a lot of
- 4:20Speaker 6: volunteers that do a lot of trapping of their own
- 4:23Speaker 6: in their community with feral cats and stray dogs, and
- 4:26Speaker 6: they'll bring them to the animal shelter just for the
- 4:29Speaker 6: intention of making sure that they're spade and neutered and
- 4:31Speaker 6: that they we're not re overpopulating our community with feral
- 4:35Speaker 6: cats and stray dogs. And so that's obviously something they
- 4:39Speaker 6: can't do on a private veterinarian it's too expensive for them.
- 4:42Speaker 6: I want to make sure that here in our community
- 4:44Speaker 6: we're taking care of that issue so we don't have
- 4:47Speaker 6: an overpopulation. So I immediately got with a good friend
- 4:50Speaker 6: of mine, great partner, Rachel Burgess with the Fix and Clinic.
- 4:54Speaker 3: And if you haven't heard of the Fix and Clinic,
- 4:56Speaker 3: look them up.
- 4:57Speaker 6: They are a low costs animal care center that will
- 5:00Speaker 6: do spade and neuter, they'll do flea and tick. They're
- 5:03Speaker 6: they're a nonprofit and I've reached out to them and
- 5:06Speaker 6: before we've had good conversations with the Animal Shelter and
- 5:10Speaker 6: then obviously Fixing Clinic, and they've been working really well together.
- 5:13Speaker 6: And immediately Rachel Burger said, we want to help, and
- 5:16Speaker 6: so we've gotten with Bethinlely Haveley. They're creating a plan
- 5:20Speaker 6: to be able to anyone that walks into the Animal
- 5:23Speaker 6: Shelter says, hey, I have an animal that I need
- 5:25Speaker 6: to have spader neutered. They're going to refer them over
- 5:28Speaker 6: to the Fixing Clinic and they're going to get that
- 5:30Speaker 6: taken care of at a low cost.
- 5:31Speaker 3: I think that's.
- 5:32Speaker 6: Important again for these community activists that are doing such
- 5:35Speaker 6: a great job of making sure that we don't have
- 5:36Speaker 6: an overpopulation, but giving them an option to go somewhere
- 5:40Speaker 6: outside of a private veterinarian.
- 5:42Speaker 5: And yeah, on every Friday, you know on the show
- 5:44Speaker 5: I have Angie Gilliwater from the Canal Charleston Humane Association
- 5:47Speaker 5: aud and I mean you could just hear it in
- 5:49Speaker 5: her voice the issues they have with the over crowding
- 5:52Speaker 5: up there. I means a matter of fact, as of
- 5:53Speaker 5: last week she said on the Friday segment that we
- 5:56Speaker 5: do that they were not going to be accepting any
- 5:59Speaker 5: pet up there, any strays unless they were sick in
- 6:04Speaker 5: like emergency care situation. So you can find one running
- 6:07Speaker 5: in your neighborhood. I mean, there's nothing the can do,
- 6:09Speaker 5: but they have nowhere to put them.
- 6:10Speaker 6: You know, they do an excellent job. And it's not
- 6:12Speaker 6: just Kennall County. They have helped out assist some of
- 6:15Speaker 6: our other sister counties, Putnam County for instance. You know
- 6:18Speaker 6: we're all aware it was in the media they were
- 6:20Speaker 6: having some issues with their administration at that time. I
- 6:23Speaker 6: immediately got bethinitely Hay. I told her, listen, I need
- 6:26Speaker 6: you to call the Putnam County Commission, you know, will
- 6:29Speaker 6: help where we can. And we got them back on
- 6:31Speaker 6: their feet and they're doing a lot better for Putnam County.
- 6:33Speaker 6: I know, I think that affects Cannall County because I
- 6:35Speaker 6: don't think feral cats and stray dogs, no boundaries, so
- 6:40Speaker 6: being able to help them too that they've done an
- 6:41Speaker 6: excellent job, but Fix Some Clinic's done an excellent job
- 6:44Speaker 6: here in Kannall County as well. I'm very proud of
- 6:46Speaker 6: the work they're doing. And so by them being able
- 6:48Speaker 6: to take more and more of these spade and newters,
- 6:51Speaker 6: it's going to come at a costs. And so this
- 6:53Speaker 6: Thursday at the County Commission meeting, I'm going to be
- 6:56Speaker 6: proposing to the Commission looking at ten thousand dollars to
- 6:59Speaker 6: go to the Fix the Clinic to help assist them
- 7:02Speaker 6: in this transition of taking more and more of these
- 7:04Speaker 6: animals for spade and neutered. You know, again, it's not
- 7:07Speaker 6: something that's cheap. They run as a nonprofit. This is
- 7:10Speaker 6: a loss every single time. I think this ten thousand
- 7:13Speaker 6: dollars would help. I would like for this money to
- 7:16Speaker 6: come from the Dog Tucks Fund. This is the non
- 7:19Speaker 6: traditional tax dollars that people pay for the dog tax
- 7:24Speaker 6: we have. The count of Commission have always used this
- 7:26Speaker 6: money for anything to do with animals. I think this
- 7:30Speaker 6: is appropriate and I think this is going to help
- 7:32Speaker 6: them in this transition. Without this money, I think it's
- 7:34Speaker 6: going to be very difficult for them to take on
- 7:36Speaker 6: this much demand. But again, this has been a great
- 7:39Speaker 6: partnership between the Humunity Association and Fix the Clinic, and
- 7:43Speaker 6: being able to do this is going to be great
- 7:45Speaker 6: for our community, especially the animal lovers like you and I.
- 7:49Speaker 5: Dave talking again with the knockknandymmistier, Lance Wheeler, Dave Alan
- 7:52Speaker 5: showing five ety live brought to you apart by Husband's Pizza.
- 7:54Speaker 5: This month get a large eight and inch Pepperoni pizza
- 7:57Speaker 5: and in order to Sentiment Bytes twenty ninety nine, pick
- 8:00Speaker 5: up or get delivery by going to husbands Pizza dot com.
- 8:02Speaker 5: We had a text here it says, I love Love Love,
- 8:04Speaker 5: that's three loves. They fixed the clinics such a great
- 8:07Speaker 5: caring group of people.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, they really are.
- 8:10Speaker 6: You know Rachel Burgess, I talked to her many times
- 8:13Speaker 6: and uh, she is a she is a volunteer, she's
- 8:15Speaker 6: a trooper, and they've got a great organization up there.
- 8:18Speaker 3: They invited me up.
- 8:19Speaker 6: I got to see behind the scenes of how they're
- 8:21Speaker 6: able to take one so many animals, uh, to get
- 8:24Speaker 6: them spade and neutered and help take care of them.
- 8:25Speaker 6: And again it's not just the faral cats and straight oggs.
- 8:29Speaker 6: We have a lot of low income households that can't
- 8:31Speaker 6: afford to go to a private veterinarian to get these services,
- 8:34Speaker 6: and they take them on to help them because at
- 8:37Speaker 6: the end of the day, you know, we care about
- 8:38Speaker 6: the animals and we care about their owners who love
- 8:41Speaker 6: and cherish their their their little animals.
- 8:43Speaker 3: As well.
- 8:44Speaker 5: Mentioned earlier Commissioner that Tim Brady from the UH from
- 8:48Speaker 5: the Charleston cv B will be on the show to
- 8:50Speaker 5: talk about the the Bikes of the Bike event next
- 8:52Speaker 5: week and it's going to be it's gonna be absolutely huge.
- 8:55Speaker 5: I know you guys on the county side are are
- 8:58Speaker 5: very interested to see what happens there as well.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:00Speaker 6: Actually, you know our CVB that we just recently revitalized,
- 9:05Speaker 6: we got certified by the state. You know that's a
- 9:07Speaker 6: big deal because you can't fund the CVB through the
- 9:11Speaker 6: hotel motel tax money unless it's certified, and so getting
- 9:15Speaker 6: that accreditation was huge and we just actually recently our
- 9:18Speaker 6: board with the Kennall County CVB just approved I believe
- 9:22Speaker 6: it was ten thousand dollars maybe five thousand dollars to
- 9:25Speaker 6: help support this bike event, because again, this is an
- 9:28Speaker 6: absolutely incredible event, and this is one of those big
- 9:31Speaker 6: events that it's not just supporting Charleston. No, we see
- 9:34Speaker 6: this county wide and even stretching into some of our
- 9:37Speaker 6: neighboring counties. The effect, the economic development effect of that.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Event being here.
- 9:43Speaker 6: You know, I was able to go in Charleston with
- 9:46Speaker 6: my family and some friends and we got to watch
- 9:48Speaker 6: the bike's race. It's something that you just can't find
- 9:51Speaker 6: anywhere else.
- 9:52Speaker 5: And I'm interested to see. And we'll talk to Tim
- 9:54Speaker 5: about this how it comes off this year because last
- 9:57Speaker 5: year and Tim and Mayor Goodwin and the folks will
- 9:59Speaker 5: tell you, you know, I don't say they didn't know
- 10:01Speaker 5: what they were doing. They certainly did, but you learn
- 10:03Speaker 5: as you go and year two and three is where
- 10:05Speaker 5: you really kind of kick into gear and say, well
- 10:08Speaker 5: this work. This Ddon, We're going to try this traffic pattern,
- 10:11Speaker 5: you know, and so it's gonna be a great event.
- 10:13Speaker 5: We'll talk to Tim Brady about that coming up a
- 10:15Speaker 5: little bit later on. Now, you got big happenings in Clindennon.
- 10:18Speaker 6: I understand we have big happenings happening everywhere, but tomorrow
- 10:22Speaker 6: and Clindon and we're really excited about this. You know,
- 10:25Speaker 6: the County Commission's been working with the Town of Clinden
- 10:28Speaker 6: and Mayor k Summers for a couple almost say, a
- 10:31Speaker 6: couple of years now when she came into my office
- 10:33Speaker 6: and told me that they had this big idea for
- 10:35Speaker 6: a trailhead with the Elk River Trail system that's going
- 10:39Speaker 6: through Clindonon and so we got with them and started
- 10:44Speaker 6: applying for grants. We did some matching funds as well
- 10:46Speaker 6: from the County Commission, and so tomorrow we're going to
- 10:49Speaker 6: have the ribbon cutting.
- 10:50Speaker 3: For this trailhead.
- 10:51Speaker 6: You know, the Elk River Trail is about forty eight
- 10:53Speaker 6: miles long, goes into Braxton County, and this is just
- 10:56Speaker 6: another thing we talk about the cycling. This is just
- 10:59Speaker 6: another thing of attracting people here into our community, but
- 11:03Speaker 6: also at the same time giving opportunities for our locals
- 11:07Speaker 6: to be able to enjoy the outdoors safely, have a
- 11:11Speaker 6: place that they can take their e bike or their bicycle,
- 11:14Speaker 6: mountain bike, maybe just go for a walk or a jog.
- 11:18Speaker 6: And having these opportunities I think is incredible again for
- 11:22Speaker 6: our community, but also for the economic development. You know,
- 11:24Speaker 6: when you start saying, Hey, come on over here from
- 11:27Speaker 6: Pennsylvania to see the you know, the bike race. Not
- 11:33Speaker 6: everyone's watching the bike race for twenty four hours. You know,
- 11:36Speaker 6: through the whole weekend. They're going to have other opportunities
- 11:39Speaker 6: go out, So going to be able to go to
- 11:41Speaker 6: Clendon and and having this this trailhead that they can
- 11:44Speaker 6: park at safely walk dog bike however they choose. I
- 11:48Speaker 6: think it's going to be really big, and I think
- 11:50Speaker 6: it's going to be big for Clinton and which deserves
- 11:52Speaker 6: as much economic development opportunities as we can give them.
- 11:55Speaker 5: She's something else, the mayor of Clindena, she's something else
- 11:58Speaker 5: or what.
- 11:59Speaker 6: She is as I've always said, she is the best
- 12:02Speaker 6: representative for that town. She will fight for her people,
- 12:05Speaker 6: for her constituents. She will not accept no as an answer,
- 12:10Speaker 6: and she does that with love for her people, her town,
- 12:12Speaker 6: her community. That's where that that fight and that fire
- 12:16Speaker 6: that everyone talks about with the mayor Summers comes from.
- 12:19Speaker 6: It comes from her love.
- 12:20Speaker 5: She's an amazing lady. Before we let you go, last
- 12:23Speaker 5: week or I think it was the last week, maybe
- 12:24Speaker 5: the week before, we had on County Commission President of
- 12:26Speaker 5: benso Lango talking about the future of the Capital Sports Complex.
- 12:31Speaker 5: Any comment from you.
- 12:32Speaker 3: On them, Well, I think he said it best.
- 12:34Speaker 6: You know, we're on pause right now because of a
- 12:36Speaker 6: lot of different things going on. Obviously, you know, looking
- 12:39Speaker 6: at what the federal government's seven million dollars was going
- 12:43Speaker 6: to you know bring in was going to be helpful.
- 12:45Speaker 6: But you know, I look at the budget and I
- 12:47Speaker 6: start to think, you know, this is going to be
- 12:49Speaker 6: a very costly construction. And you know, just recently the
- 12:54Speaker 6: Kennell County Commission just had to increase our jail bill
- 12:57Speaker 6: by a million dollars for the year. We had look
- 13:00Speaker 6: at our PIA costs have gone up five hundred thousand.
- 13:05Speaker 6: It was going to be eight hundred thousand. But unfortunately,
- 13:08Speaker 6: in my office with staff, we were able to move
- 13:11Speaker 6: them things around and we actually made it a little
- 13:13Speaker 6: bit more cost saving without changing the healthcare coverage for
- 13:16Speaker 6: our employees. And so when you start looking at all
- 13:19Speaker 6: the things that have increased in our budget, and you know,
- 13:23Speaker 6: the judicial Annex is another example. You know, we just
- 13:26Speaker 6: had to take a fifteen million dollar bond out on that,
- 13:29Speaker 6: you start looking at the seven million it didn't come
- 13:31Speaker 6: from the federal government. You start looking at the County's budget.
- 13:34Speaker 6: You know, I think that this is something that we
- 13:36Speaker 6: have to stop be you know, findicial responsibility to the taxpayers,
- 13:41Speaker 6: making sure that we're doing the right thing and making
- 13:44Speaker 6: sure that this is something that's affordable. So by stopping
- 13:48Speaker 6: reevaluating and doing it the right way, I think is
- 13:52Speaker 6: the correct thing to do. Rushing this and just jumping
- 13:55Speaker 6: into it and starting putting you know, concrete on ground
- 13:59Speaker 6: and pillars and having a ribbon cutting just for a construction,
- 14:03Speaker 6: just so we can have a building that's unfinished, I
- 14:05Speaker 6: think that's irresponsible. I think this is something that's we're
- 14:09Speaker 6: going to continue to work on. You know, look at
- 14:11Speaker 6: all the great things we've done with the hat film,
- 14:12Speaker 6: McCoy trail, Dirt Bites, the Appalachian Outlaw Trails that we
- 14:16Speaker 6: announced right here on this show coming to eastern Kennall County,
- 14:19Speaker 6: the trail Head and Clennon and along with the Gravity Trails.
- 14:23Speaker 6: You know, we've been moving that needle in the right
- 14:25Speaker 6: direction for as many outdoor recreational things events as possible.
- 14:30Speaker 6: Even Shawnee Sports Complex, the renovations we've been put in there.
- 14:34Speaker 6: So we want to make sure that with everything we're doing,
- 14:37Speaker 6: we're doing it correctly. I think the pause is the
- 14:39Speaker 6: right move. If you're calling it.
- 14:41Speaker 5: A pause, you're not a pause or a halt or whatever.
- 14:43Speaker 6: You're not absolutely done. No, I don't think it's done.
- 14:46Speaker 6: I think there's still work to be done. But we
- 14:48Speaker 6: have to be realistic, and we have to be realistic
- 14:50Speaker 6: of not getting too far ahead of ourselves and building
- 14:55Speaker 6: something that we can't afford. And so if we're going
- 14:58Speaker 6: to build it, we're going to make sure that we
- 14:59Speaker 6: do it we responsibly, and that's why we're pausing.
- 15:02Speaker 3: We're reevaluating.
- 15:03Speaker 6: But at the end of the day, we know having
- 15:05Speaker 6: a sports complex in Charleston is going to be a
- 15:09Speaker 6: game changer for this community, for this county, for the state.
- 15:13Speaker 6: But it doesn't mean that all the great things that
- 15:15Speaker 6: we've done haven't moved this needle in the right direction.
- 15:18Speaker 6: I see in the future Kennall County being the capital
- 15:22Speaker 6: of the world for outdoor recreation. Nowhere in this United
- 15:27Speaker 6: States can you find a urban area like Charleston that
- 15:32Speaker 6: you're fifteen minutes away from backwoods right and you can

- 19:43Speaker 11: Well, I wouldn't recognize it if I saw it.
- 19:46Speaker 3: Gotcha.
- 19:47Speaker 5: Hey, If you hear that sound, that buzz and static,
- 19:51Speaker 5: you know what that is. That's the Internet trying to
- 19:52Speaker 5: connect in West Virginia. What's what's up with the latest
- 19:56Speaker 5: on the Internet's mister Macklhenny, we don't have it. Okay, thanks, thanks,
- 20:02Speaker 5: thanks for being here.
- 20:03Speaker 3: Now what do you got.
- 20:05Speaker 11: Well, West Virginia has long been in need both for
- 20:10Speaker 11: and so who would like to connect, but also for businesses,
- 20:15Speaker 11: including entrepreneurs. I mean, you know, one thing the pandemics
- 20:18Speaker 11: showed us is that if people are properly equipped, they
- 20:21Speaker 11: can do their work from home and maybe start their
- 20:25Speaker 11: own business or side business or whatever. And having greater
- 20:29Speaker 11: connectivity in West Virginia would be a long sought blessing.
- 20:35Speaker 11: West Virginia officials felt really good and confident about a
- 20:41Speaker 11: federal Internet expansion program that began under the Biden administration. Uh,
- 20:48Speaker 11: there's a new there's a new sheriff in town. Though,
- 20:50Speaker 11: and President Trump and his administration in particular Commerce Secretary
- 20:54Speaker 11: of Lutnik have have paused the program just to reassess it.
- 20:59Speaker 11: And it may be fine, maybe, you know, just just
- 21:03Speaker 11: a matter of all right, we're going to take a
- 21:04Speaker 11: look at this. But the thing is, West Virginia was
- 21:08Speaker 11: you know, right at the right at the touchdown yard marker,
- 21:12Speaker 11: right right ready to score, had had gotten most of
- 21:16Speaker 11: its plan together and felt like, all right, we are,
- 21:20Speaker 11: you know, just within a lightning strike of getting uh,
- 21:26Speaker 11: you know, millions of dollars to expand West Virginia Internet
- 21:33Speaker 11: to underserved and unserved communities. Senator Capito is frustrated by
- 21:39Speaker 11: this by this pause, She both sent a letter to
- 21:44Speaker 11: Lutnik asking him to expedite the review uh and and
- 21:48Speaker 11: to move ahead with things, and then talked about this
- 21:52Speaker 11: delay in a meeting with reporters from West Virginia late
- 21:57Speaker 11: last week. This was just a broad ranging, regular Capital briefing,
- 22:01Speaker 11: but this was one of the top topics on her mind.
- 22:04Speaker 11: She said, there's a whold on our application right now.
- 22:07Speaker 11: Capital said we were six weeks away from having our
- 22:09Speaker 11: application approved so that we could begin work turn the
- 22:13Speaker 11: door to get the last of these broadband connections to everybody.
- 22:16Speaker 11: And then she concluded her statements to West Virginia reporters
- 22:20Speaker 11: by saying, I'm very frustrated.
- 22:23Speaker 5: Well, you know, and Brad, those of us.
- 22:26Speaker 11: That live people could be listening to you streaming right
- 22:28Speaker 11: now if we just had better broadbands.
- 22:31Speaker 5: Well, I don't know if anybody wants to see that,
- 22:32Speaker 5: but I will say this, you know, here in the
- 22:35Speaker 5: Canal Valley for the most part, we're very fortunate. And
- 22:38Speaker 5: there may be people listening to us here Kanah Putnam
- 22:40Speaker 5: surrounding areas. I'm thinking, what are these guys talking about.
- 22:44Speaker 5: You go to certain areas of this state. I want
- 22:46Speaker 5: to go ahead and hazard to say the majority of
- 22:49Speaker 5: the state you go to, you're going to struggle with
- 22:53Speaker 5: not only internet, you're going to struggle with cell phone.
- 22:55Speaker 5: I mean, you know where, God bless her, where my
- 22:58Speaker 5: stepmother lives. And granted it is kind of a it
- 23:02Speaker 5: is kind of fur piece removed where she lives. If
- 23:06Speaker 5: it rains, she doesn't have a landline in her house.
- 23:09Speaker 5: If it rains like to rain, like we had to
- 23:10Speaker 5: roll through the Kanal Valley by an hour ago. I
- 23:12Speaker 5: promise you I try to call her right now. She
- 23:14Speaker 5: has no phone and that's where we are. She has
- 23:17Speaker 5: no landline cell phones, that's not even an issue. She
- 23:19Speaker 5: hasn't had internet in months, and there's a variety of
- 23:23Speaker 5: reasons for that, and the companies will tell you, Look,
- 23:26Speaker 5: it is not economically feasible for us to go in
- 23:29Speaker 5: and provide internet to all those people. And I understand that,
- 23:34Speaker 5: but I also understand that if we are a state
- 23:37Speaker 5: that fancies ourselves, as you well know, Brad, and we
- 23:40Speaker 5: hear all of our elected officials say we want we
- 23:42Speaker 5: want these people. Now that after COVID and now that
- 23:44Speaker 5: everybody's you know, living in a remote world and nobody
- 23:46Speaker 5: has to go into the office anymore. We want people
- 23:49Speaker 5: to come to West Virginia, to work here, to play here,
- 23:52Speaker 5: to raise their families here, whatever. We want them here.
- 23:54Speaker 5: Because when they're not working, they can go to the
- 23:56Speaker 5: New River Gorge, they can go four wheeling, or they
- 23:58Speaker 5: can do whatever else we want to do. We got
- 24:01Speaker 5: to get this figured out in West Virginia, and but
- 24:04Speaker 5: it comes and God bless Kelly Workman and those folks
- 24:06Speaker 5: that are doing all they can. I know, on the
- 24:08Speaker 5: state wide level, we got to look at Washington and
- 24:11Speaker 5: say something's got to happen here. I mean, you know,
- 24:13Speaker 5: does that meant to editorializing too much?
- 24:17Speaker 11: No, I don't think so. And I think you're right
- 24:19Speaker 11: that in the canav Valley it's easy to forget that
- 24:22Speaker 11: much of the rest of the state is unserved or underserved.
- 24:26Speaker 11: And you know, I mean it's it's not only I
- 24:28Speaker 11: think Internet for residential use, whether it's streaming Netflix or
- 24:34Speaker 11: Prime or whatever, but also trying to to encourage the
- 24:41Speaker 11: kind of business development that relies on reliable Internet, whether
- 24:47Speaker 11: that's a company or whether it's you know, you could
- 24:52Speaker 11: you could live very near the kind of beautiful locations
- 24:56Speaker 11: you've described, the New River Gorge or Canaane Valley or whatever,
- 25:01Speaker 11: and this day and age, you could potentially do your
- 25:05Speaker 11: own business or have your own business on the side
- 25:09Speaker 11: if you could just connect properly. And that's the challenge
- 25:12Speaker 11: that Westerga continues to face. I mean, some of the
- 25:15Speaker 11: callers or textures or whoever may say, well, what about Starling,
- 25:19Speaker 11: what about satellite Internet, and that that could be an answer,
- 25:22Speaker 11: you know, for residential customers. But I think for the
- 25:27Speaker 11: kind of business reliability that we're talking about, it requires,
- 25:32Speaker 11: you know, probably a more fiber based, reliable signal.
- 25:36Speaker 5: The day violand showing five Vitty Live is brought to
- 25:38Speaker 5: you apart by Jute j O o T security system
- 25:41Speaker 5: that is protected by Jute dot com or follow them
- 25:43Speaker 5: on Facebook and I'll say this and we'll move on,
- 25:47Speaker 5: you know it. And people hear the term internet and
- 25:50Speaker 5: they think, well, it's just something for entertainment. Look, if
- 25:52Speaker 5: you don't have quality Internet, you can't you can't run
- 25:54Speaker 5: a business at all, period. And Internet is the water
- 25:59Speaker 5: slash gas slash sewage of the mid twentieth century. That's
- 26:06Speaker 5: where it is. I saw this kind of caught my interest, Brad.
- 26:10Speaker 5: I saw where the governor is advertising for I'm quoting
- 26:14Speaker 5: here top talent to join our official team in Charleston, energetic,
- 26:19Speaker 5: detail oriented individuals who thrive in a fast paced environment
- 26:23Speaker 5: to help with the mountain steak comeback. And I saw
- 26:27Speaker 5: that last night, saw that it was posted on the
- 26:30Speaker 5: Governor's pages, and I thought, well, you know, this whole
- 26:33Speaker 5: radio thing doesn't work out, maybe I've got a future.
- 26:36Speaker 11: Oh yeah, And you know, the nature of the ad
- 26:39Speaker 11: is very inspiring. Who wouldn't be for you know, West
- 26:43Speaker 11: Virginia's rise to be the city and the mountains? What
- 26:47Speaker 11: is the the state in the mountains? The yeah, whatever,
- 26:51Speaker 11: It's incredibly inspirational, except that I can't remember the specific
- 26:56Speaker 11: and seeing a specific I looked at that, and I
- 26:58Speaker 11: will tell you that will not be me just to
- 27:01Speaker 11: lay that on the table. But I did take a
- 27:04Speaker 11: look at it. First thing I thought was, well, who laughs,
- 27:06Speaker 11: who's he trying to replace? I don't know the answer
- 27:09Speaker 11: to that. Maybe no one maybe someone I have no idea,
- 27:13Speaker 11: but then you get down into it and it encourages
- 27:16Speaker 11: you to apply, but doesn't really say what you're applying for.
- 27:20Speaker 5: Well, you just got to be energetic into tail oriented.
- 27:25Speaker 11: Students or anything else except for that level of inspiration.
- 27:29Speaker 5: So that's again, if you're interested in that position, you
- 27:32Speaker 5: can you can you know, log onto the governor, social
- 27:35Speaker 5: media and elsewhere that'll take you to it. I did
- 27:37Speaker 5: think it was interesting though that they said that they
- 27:39Speaker 5: might and I'm kind of paraphrasing here, they must be
- 27:41Speaker 5: able to work in Charleston, which I look, I completely understand. Uh,
- 27:45Speaker 5: but you don't see a lot of jobs that said,
- 27:46Speaker 5: because normally with most job seekers these days, they say
- 27:50Speaker 5: can I work from home? And obviously this kind of
- 27:52Speaker 5: job you're gonna have to be around the Charleston area.
- 27:54Speaker 5: And again with this governor, we have seen he's at
- 27:56Speaker 5: the capitol and he's certainly traveling around the state of
- 27:59Speaker 5: West Virginia, and not just to give out checks. He's
- 28:01Speaker 5: actually doing this stuff. He's actually a part of I
- 28:04Speaker 5: don't know, I just thought that was I thought that
- 28:07Speaker 5: was entry. I saw that last night on the socials.
- 28:09Speaker 5: As the kids would say, all right, what else are
- 28:11Speaker 5: you working on today, sir?
- 28:15Speaker 11: You know, the governor I think, does have a briefing
- 28:18Speaker 11: in the Parkersburg area. He and his staff do a
- 28:23Speaker 11: great job of letting you know he'll be somewhere, but
- 28:26Speaker 11: not letting you know what they will be there about.
- 28:30Speaker 11: So that remains a little bit of a mystery talk
- 28:33Speaker 11: line which is coming up as Congressman Riley Moore. Of course,
- 28:38Speaker 11: I made some jokes about the federal budget reconciliation when
- 28:41Speaker 11: we first began, but it is a big week in
- 28:44Speaker 11: Washington regarding federal finances, extension of the Trump tax cuts
- 28:49Speaker 11: from twenty seventeen, some tinkering with medicaid that I am
- 28:54Speaker 11: still trying to understand to be able to afford the
- 28:58Speaker 11: continuation of those cuts. So perhaps Congressman More can let
- 29:04Speaker 11: us know a little bit more about what he's thinking.
- 29:06Speaker 5: All right, we'll be listening for you, and we'll be
- 29:09Speaker 5: reading you. And because we have quality internet here in
- 29:13Speaker 5: the Kanaw Valley, that won't be an issue.
- 29:17Speaker 11: That is great and I am relieved, and you know,
- 29:20Speaker 11: for the folks around the rest of the stage, hopefully
- 29:24Speaker 11: you at least have good sell service.
- 29:25Speaker 5: All right, Brad, always a pleasure, my friend. We'll talk

- 30:04Speaker 5: it comes to some situations. Well, I can't speak for
- 30:07Speaker 5: them other than to say that they're they're a business
- 30:10Speaker 5: and they got they got cost. I guess I can't

- 33:20Speaker 5: Dave Island Show on five to eighty Live has brought

- 33:39Speaker 5: so the internet businesses say it's too expensive and practical
- 33:42Speaker 5: for them to run Internet. So Dave alludes to the

- 34:09Speaker 5: state corruption? Where's the outrage magus? You know, if Biden's
- 34:13Speaker 5: name were on all this, you all would have an
- 34:14Speaker 5: aneurism as a texture. Tim Brady, who frequently calls his aneurysms,
- 34:20Speaker 5: but I don't know that he actually has them, is
- 34:21Speaker 5: with us in studio and how you doing, man.
- 34:23Speaker 17: Man, I'm great, I'm great. We are just days away
- 34:27Speaker 17: from you know, amazing cycling racing in the city. Of Charleston.
- 34:32Speaker 17: But before we talked that, I actually wanted to tell
- 34:34Speaker 17: you thank you. I learned something from your radio program
- 34:37Speaker 17: this morning.
- 34:37Speaker 3: Wow.
- 34:38Speaker 17: Yeah, so I you know, you and I talked a
- 34:41Speaker 17: lot about tourism and tourism related things. You're on the
- 34:44Speaker 17: board of Directors at Putnam County and their CVB.
- 34:47Speaker 5: Let it be known for the record, I'm the president.
- 34:49Speaker 5: You are the el presidente for for one more month.
- 34:52Speaker 5: My tournaments next month, But go ahead.
- 34:53Speaker 17: But you know, we've often said that tourists don't care
- 34:56Speaker 17: about municipal boundary lines, while I found out this morning
- 34:58Speaker 17: neither do feral cats. Yeah, the go there you go,
- 35:00Speaker 17: So thank you, Lance Wheeler.
- 35:02Speaker 5: I foresee pamphlets, brochors going out attention. Feral cats don't
- 35:07Speaker 5: like it in this county, go to that county.
- 35:09Speaker 7: You know.
- 35:10Speaker 5: It could be the official the official symbol of the
- 35:13Speaker 5: of the Charleston tv B could be a feral cat.
- 35:16Speaker 5: It might already be all right, all right, So next
- 35:19Speaker 5: week bike's coming to town. Yes, sir, there's a there's
- 35:23Speaker 5: a smooth transition. There's why you're a pro. There's a
- 35:26Speaker 5: there's a smooth transition coming to town.
- 35:27Speaker 17: Twenty twenty five USA Cycling Pro Road National Championships begin
- 35:31Speaker 17: Monday in the city of Charleston, run for eight straight days.
- 35:34Speaker 17: We've got para athletes this year. The whole thing kicks
- 35:38Speaker 17: off with para cycling road races. Riders of different don't
- 35:42Speaker 17: know what part are riders of different physical abilities. Some
- 35:45Speaker 17: of them are they don't have arms, they don't have legs.
- 35:48Speaker 17: They there are blind cyclists, so you you've got all
- 35:52Speaker 17: types of different uh, mechanisms that they ride. So these
- 35:57Speaker 17: are these are paralyzed pair of athletes. Uh, competing in
- 36:01Speaker 17: the city of Charleston. Uh, that's gonna be great.
- 36:03Speaker 4: Uh.
- 36:03Speaker 17: They have road races on Monday. They've got time trials
- 36:06Speaker 17: on Tuesday, and then the uh the other categories of
- 36:11Speaker 17: cyclists begin on Tuesday and and run through Memorial Day, all.
- 36:15Speaker 5: Right, and again, when can people expect for the folks
- 36:19Speaker 5: to start? I mean, I know you guys are already
- 36:20Speaker 5: preparing here, but when can we start seeing like, you know,
- 36:22Speaker 5: the the trailers come in, the people coming in. When
- 36:25Speaker 5: can we expect the population of Charleston to basically triple
- 36:29Speaker 5: triple might be a strong word, but actually there are
- 36:31Speaker 5: some of them are already in town.
- 36:33Speaker 17: You know, anecdotally, I can tell you that we've seen
- 36:36Speaker 17: teams and individual riders practicing on the hills on Bridge
- 36:39Speaker 17: Road and over on Worts Avenue. There was a family
- 36:42Speaker 17: from Europe that's in for the cycling races that were
- 36:45Speaker 17: up at Lola's over the weekend and I think drank
- 36:49Speaker 17: the place out of Pironi. That's a true story, as
- 36:52Speaker 17: I'm told. But they're already here. But we'll see Penis start.
- 36:55Speaker 5: A choice, by the way, it's one of my favorite beers.
- 36:57Speaker 5: It's not a bad choice, it does it does show
- 36:59Speaker 5: that good taste. Yeah, they'll start.
- 37:02Speaker 17: A lot of folks will start coming in this week Thursday,
- 37:04Speaker 17: Friday Saturday.
- 37:06Speaker 3: You will start.
- 37:06Speaker 17: Seeing construction of the start finished trusts begin on Friday afternoon.
- 37:12Speaker 17: After five o'clock Friday evening, you'll see construction of the
- 37:16Speaker 17: start finish line area in front of the four points begin,
- 37:19Speaker 17: uh and fencing will start going up over the weekend.
- 37:21Speaker 3: So you'll really.
- 37:21Speaker 17: Start to see it develop Friday, Saturday Sunday in preparation
- 37:26Speaker 17: for for racing on Monday.
- 37:27Speaker 5: And one of the things that people most well, I
- 37:30Speaker 5: guess one of the most frequently asked questions that I
- 37:32Speaker 5: get you get, the city gets and whatever is if
- 37:34Speaker 5: maybe and everybody loves that this thing is coming to town,
- 37:37Speaker 5: it's just, you know, a unbelievable the amount of people
- 37:40Speaker 5: that are going to be here and the amount of
- 37:42Speaker 5: money it's going to bring in. And you mentioned the restaurants,
- 37:44Speaker 5: Lolas and all the others are going to be very
- 37:45Speaker 5: happy about that is How does it affect the person
- 37:47Speaker 5: that lives in Charleston. I mean, you know, I work
- 37:50Speaker 5: at a I work at it. Well, I do work
- 37:51Speaker 5: at thentown Charleston, but work at a law office downtown.
- 37:54Speaker 5: What am I going to see? I'm a drive into
- 37:56Speaker 5: work Monday through Friday next week or so.
- 37:59Speaker 17: By and large, what you're going to see is very
- 38:01Speaker 17: little disruption, especially if you're not on the boulevard. I
- 38:04Speaker 17: will say that I hope that we built up some
- 38:06Speaker 17: trust and goodwill last year because we communicated a plan,
- 38:10Speaker 17: we had a plan, we worked the plan, and we
- 38:12Speaker 17: kept the disruptions to a minimum, and we want to
- 38:14Speaker 17: reapply that formula this year. I can't say enough about
- 38:17Speaker 17: the Charleston Police Department, Charleston Public Works, Street Department all
- 38:23Speaker 17: pitching in to help every department in the city of
- 38:27Speaker 17: Charleston somehow participates in the execution of this race, and
- 38:30Speaker 17: they're wonderful. But we had a good plan and most
- 38:35Speaker 17: of the road closures, unless you're right down in the
- 38:37Speaker 17: heart of it on the boulevard, are not hard closures.
- 38:39Speaker 17: They're rolling closures, meaning that when we have the opportunity,
- 38:43Speaker 17: we can flow traffic. So by and large, our hope
- 38:47Speaker 17: is that if you see any disruption, it's minimal and
- 38:49Speaker 17: it's you know, maybe give yourself ten or fifteen extra
- 38:51Speaker 17: minutes to get to work. But we've tried to make
- 38:55Speaker 17: this plan to the point where people can get where
- 38:59Speaker 17: they need to get to it just take them a
- 39:00Speaker 17: little long.
- 39:01Speaker 5: What about in the residential neighborhoods, what can those people expect?
- 39:04Speaker 17: So the residential neighborhoods impacted most are if you think
- 39:07Speaker 17: about the Saturday, Sunday Monday races, the climbs on Wartz
- 39:11Speaker 17: Avenue and then coming back down Oak Ridge in Greenbrier,
- 39:14Speaker 17: and then you've also got the climb of Bridge Road
- 39:16Speaker 17: and then the descent of Louden Heights and again those
- 39:19Speaker 17: are rolling closures. So as the peloton or pack of
- 39:22Speaker 17: riders goes through, obviously we shut down the streets there's
- 39:25Speaker 17: no traffic. But once the pack has gone through, we
- 39:28Speaker 17: know we've got twenty to twenty five minutes to flow
- 39:31Speaker 17: traffic and get people in and out before the race
- 39:34Speaker 17: comes back around on the circuit. So those residents again
- 39:38Speaker 17: in those neighborhoods, give yourself a little extra time, you know,
- 39:41Speaker 17: fifteen twenty extra minutes on a Saturday, Sunday, Monday to
- 39:44Speaker 17: get where you need to go. But our goal and
- 39:47Speaker 17: our hope is that everybody gets where they need to
- 39:49Speaker 17: go with as little disruption as possible.
- 39:52Speaker 5: I mean, and that's what you know. Last some of
- 39:54Speaker 5: the ques, it really wasn't people complaining, they were just questioning,
- 39:57Speaker 5: Like you know, on a Saturday afternoon, I'm just picking
- 40:00Speaker 5: times out of there. Here tim three o'clock on a
- 40:02Speaker 5: Saturday afternoon, my kids got a Little league game. I
- 40:04Speaker 5: need to be able to get out. You should probably
- 40:06Speaker 5: plan accordingly. And where is the best place to go
- 40:09Speaker 5: to get all this information? Because I know you guys
- 40:11Speaker 5: put it all out there social media, whatever. Where is
- 40:13Speaker 5: the best place to go to get to get the guidelines?
- 40:16Speaker 17: So if you go to CHARLESTONWV dot com on our
- 40:18Speaker 17: home page and you click to the link to the
- 40:21Speaker 17: bike race information. All of the maps in the schedule
- 40:24Speaker 17: for the races are there. The City of Charleston website
- 40:27Speaker 17: also has very detailed information on road closures. Checked it
- 40:31Speaker 17: this morning and it's up to date. So between the
- 40:35Speaker 17: CVB website, CHARLESTONWV dot com, and the City of Charleston's website,
- 40:39Speaker 17: you can find the information that you need. And you know, again,
- 40:44Speaker 17: you know, last year was funny. There was a lot
- 40:46Speaker 17: of anticipatory grief going into the event. As the way
- 40:49Speaker 17: I would put it, a lot of people were worried
- 40:51Speaker 17: and complaining and talking about the negative impacts. Once things
- 40:56Speaker 17: got started. Last year, all of it disappeared. It just
- 40:59Speaker 17: went away because again we had a plan, we worked
- 41:02Speaker 17: the plan, and we followed through on what we said
- 41:03Speaker 17: and I think that that, hopefully again that built up
- 41:05Speaker 17: some goodwill.
- 41:07Speaker 5: I mean I mentioned, you know, of course, I work
- 41:09Speaker 5: here on Virginia Street in Charleston. The Thursday night last year,
- 41:12Speaker 5: I was subbing for Steve Annimal. We did a live
- 41:14Speaker 5: broadcast in marw one on one on Capitol Street. We
- 41:16Speaker 5: do that a couple of times a month. We had
- 41:19Speaker 5: no issues whatsoever. Matter of fact, it was kind of cool.
- 41:21Speaker 5: To be out there, you know, doing a live broadcast
- 41:23Speaker 5: while all this is going on, and we're going to
- 41:25Speaker 5: be all of our station gonna be a big part
- 41:26Speaker 5: of it this year as well.
- 41:27Speaker 17: Yeah, we've actually worked harder to engage on the radio
- 41:32Speaker 17: side the West Virginia Radio Corporation stations this year. I
- 41:35Speaker 17: know we've got a designated watch zone on Thursday and
- 41:38Speaker 17: Friday nights during the Criterion Race. It's the corner of
- 41:41Speaker 17: Coarier and Hail Streets. I know V one hundred they're
- 41:44Speaker 17: going to have the watch zone there on those Thursday
- 41:47Speaker 17: and Friday nights. I think Woody at the Bead is
- 41:49Speaker 17: going to do some different things potentially down on Capitol
- 41:51Speaker 17: Street from what I'm told. But I think we're what
- 41:55Speaker 17: we've tried to do this year. You know, we figured
- 41:57Speaker 17: it out last year. We got through last year, and
- 42:00Speaker 17: then figure out where can we augment this, Where can
- 42:03Speaker 17: we create some ancillary activity, create a more fun environment,
- 42:06Speaker 17: so we can amplify what we did last year and
- 42:08Speaker 17: make it more fun for the community this year. So
- 42:10Speaker 17: we've got some watch zones, the V one hundred watch
- 42:12Speaker 17: zone there at the corner of Courier and Hail. We've
- 42:16Speaker 17: got a watch zone at the end of Capitol Street
- 42:17Speaker 17: in partnership with Sam's and Groove and Blue Parrot and
- 42:22Speaker 17: the bars and restaurants down there on that first block
- 42:24Speaker 17: of Capitol Street. Of course, Live Claus is going to
- 42:26Speaker 17: be a great place to watch the night races as well,
- 42:28Speaker 17: working with Arts Amplified to create live music in the
- 42:31Speaker 17: park Thursday and Friday nights and all day long Saturday, Sunday, Monday.
- 42:34Speaker 17: Can't say enough nice things about Brian Cooper and the
- 42:36Speaker 17: job he's done in helping to organize that. And then
- 42:40Speaker 17: Emily Crouch and all the folks up at Bridge Road
- 42:42Speaker 17: creating a watch zone at the shops of Bridge Road
- 42:45Speaker 17: on Monday Memorial Day. That's going to be a great
- 42:48Speaker 17: place to watch as well.
- 42:50Speaker 5: All right, Tim, I know you've got a lot to do,
- 42:52Speaker 5: and I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule today.
- 42:54Speaker 5: Go ahead, I just do.
- 42:55Speaker 17: I would be remiss if I left out of here
- 42:58Speaker 17: without thanking just a couple of organizations I mentioned the
- 43:02Speaker 17: City of Charleston, the support from Mary Amy Goodwin and
- 43:05Speaker 17: her whole staff. This doesn't happen without their full support.
- 43:09Speaker 17: This year, we've brought in a presenting sponsor in Spilman.
- 43:12Speaker 17: Thomas in Battle, Mike Basil and all of the folks
- 43:16Speaker 17: at Spilman have been a big part of planning this
- 43:18Speaker 17: year's event, and their support has allowed us to create
- 43:22Speaker 17: some of these other fun activities that we wanted to do,
- 43:24Speaker 17: so really need to thank them. And then the other
- 43:27Speaker 17: big partner in all of this, and there are a
- 43:30Speaker 17: lot of partners, but I want to specifically call out
- 43:32Speaker 17: CAMC and the CAMC Foundation. They provide all of our
- 43:35Speaker 17: medical care for free in exchange for their sponsorship, and
- 43:40Speaker 17: this doesn't happen without the complete and full buy in
- 43:43Speaker 17: from the team at CAMC making sure that all of
- 43:45Speaker 17: the writers stay safe. So I really just wanted to
- 43:48Speaker 17: make sure before I get out of here today that
- 43:50Speaker 17: I thank those three organizations specifically. There are a lot
- 43:53Speaker 17: of others and I appreciate all of them, but those
- 43:57Speaker 17: three organizations this does not happen without their support.
- 44:01Speaker 5: Well, we're basically turning the station over to you next
- 44:04Speaker 5: to oh Man, what is he? If you could see
- 44:06Speaker 5: that on camera, what an evil grin he had there,
- 44:08Speaker 5: it'll be all it'd be all wrestling talk, and bring
- 44:11Speaker 5: Matt Sutton in. It'll just be it'll be terrible, but
- 44:13Speaker 5: Adam Harris as well. All right, but yeah, we're gonna
- 44:16Speaker 5: be talking a whole lot about this. I'm going to
- 44:17Speaker 5: actually devote an entire show one day next week. Try
- 44:19Speaker 5: to get the mayor in here and some of the
- 44:20Speaker 5: other folks. Maybe I'd love to have some of the
- 44:22Speaker 5: writers if they're or the sponsors or whomever on the show.
- 44:25Speaker 17: I'd love to bring in the executive director of USA Cycling,
- 44:28Speaker 17: Brendan Quirk.
- 44:29Speaker 3: He's a great guy.
- 44:30Speaker 17: I'd love to bring him in one day next week
- 44:32Speaker 17: and let him talk about say and I just want to.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Say too, Dave.
- 44:36Speaker 17: I really appreciated a lot of the things that that
- 44:38Speaker 17: Commissioner Wheeler was saying while he was in here about
- 44:40Speaker 17: outdoor recreation because this all ties together, this cycling race
- 44:44Speaker 17: and some of the outdoor recreation development, and we're working
- 44:47Speaker 17: on additional developments activities on the CVB side. It all
- 44:52Speaker 17: goes hand in hand, and I think we all have
- 44:54Speaker 17: a common goal of making Connaw County and Charleston the
- 44:58Speaker 17: capital of outdoor recreation and this part of the country,
- 45:01Speaker 17: and it's all of these things working together collaboratively to
- 45:04Speaker 17: get there. So today Allan showing five any line. Brought

- 48:14Speaker 5: tomorrow as well. Tex says, are these Texters not watching
- 48:18Speaker 5: the news? Inflation is down, gas and food prices are down.
- 48:22Speaker 5: Trump secured trade deals with the UK and China. Stock
- 48:25Speaker 5: market is up. Trump secured the release of American hostage
- 48:28Speaker 5: and Alexander from Hamas, and took on Big fire my
- 48:31Speaker 5: cutting prescription drug prices by up to eighty percent. This
- 48:35Speaker 5: week Texas, I caught the end of the Elk River
- 48:39Speaker 5: trail segment. Did they say a trailhead is opened up
- 48:41Speaker 5: in Glendena and they're having all the festivities with that
- 48:44Speaker 5: coming up tomorrow with Mayor one of my favorite people
- 48:46Speaker 5: in the world, Mayor K. Summers, coming up on this
- 48:49Speaker 5: show tomorrow. A quick news note, kind of a tragic
- 48:52Speaker 5: store here. Jeff has the story posted on the website.
- 48:55Speaker 5: This morning. Police have now released the names of the
- 48:57Speaker 5: four people that were involved in a double fatal Mother's
- 49:00Speaker 5: Day morning that the seventy seven sixty four split. The
- 49:03Speaker 5: crash killed the driver, twenty nine year old Tierra Pits
- 49:06Speaker 5: and the passenger, thirty year old Caitlin Berger, both of Charleston.
- 49:09Speaker 5: Two men who were passengers in the minivan still in
- 49:11Speaker 5: the hospital stable condition, nineteen year old Javon Cousins in
- 49:15Speaker 5: twenty nine year old Fountain Nelson, both Charleston. The minivan
- 49:20Speaker 5: went off the bridge shortly after four thirty early Mother's
- 49:23Speaker 5: Day morning Sunday. It's tragic story, and again Jeff has
- 49:26Speaker 5: more posted about it at wv metronews dot com. Look
- 49:30Speaker 5: who's here, it's our good buddy TJ.
- 49:32Speaker 2: Meadows.
- 49:33Speaker 13: I must have missed the fact that pharmaceutical prices instantly
- 49:36Speaker 13: went down yesterday by eighty percent.
- 49:37Speaker 5: I was going to read this text to you to
- 49:39Speaker 5: get your response. Let me read it to you again.
- 49:41Speaker 5: Inflation is down. Okay, inflation is down, that's true. Gas
- 49:45Speaker 5: and food prices are down.
- 49:47Speaker 3: Is gas down?
- 49:48Speaker 5: I have to look at that one.
- 49:50Speaker 13: I don't know if I guess, well, I.
- 49:51Speaker 5: Just did a big haul at the grocery store over
- 49:54Speaker 5: the weekend. I would argue with some of that, some
- 49:56Speaker 5: of the Trump secured trade deals with the UK China.
- 50:01Speaker 13: And how come China gets as good a deal as
- 50:03Speaker 13: the UK our long standing ally somebody answered that one
- 50:06Speaker 13: for him. The stock market is up, Yes it is,
- 50:08Speaker 13: but it was also artificially taken down.
- 50:11Speaker 5: Trump secured the release of the American hostage from MAMAS.
- 50:14Speaker 13: I haven't looked at that much, but I'm glad the
- 50:15Speaker 13: gentleman's out.
- 50:16Speaker 5: And took on big pharma, cutting prescription prices by up
- 50:20Speaker 5: to eighty percent.
- 50:21Speaker 13: This week hasn't happened yet. Announced his EO two, but
- 50:25Speaker 13: nothing is dropped yet. Okay, this leand up, like this
- 50:28Speaker 13: land up, like tariffs. They'll take a five percent haircut.
- 50:30Speaker 13: He'll call it victory. We'll move on, all right.
- 50:34Speaker 5: What else you got looking? What else you're looking at?
- 50:36Speaker 13: So you know on today, I'm going to tell you what, man,
- 50:41Speaker 13: there's not enough ram left for everything that's going on
- 50:44Speaker 13: in the world right now. Jared Halprin joins us.
- 50:47Speaker 5: Coming up at ten oh six, we'll talk.
- 50:49Speaker 13: Actually, you know, what what did I do here?
- 50:53Speaker 5: By the way, while you're looking up here, Tex says
- 50:56Speaker 5: gas is down, but it literally just.
- 50:57Speaker 13: Came down today. Okay, I'll have to go look at it.
- 51:00Speaker 13: I know the RBOB the wholesale price is what I
- 51:02Speaker 13: tend to watch a little bit. I think it was
- 51:04Speaker 13: going to trade down a little bit, but you know,
- 51:06Speaker 13: look look at it.
- 51:08Speaker 5: Look at oil.
- 51:09Speaker 13: Let's see what happens with oil and if oil stays down,
- 51:11Speaker 13: because oil has been down for a while now. So look,
- 51:17Speaker 13: I didn't plan to talk about this president of the
- 51:19Speaker 13: United States. I don't care Republican Democrat, Trump, Biden, whomever.
- 51:23Speaker 13: They don't control the.
- 51:24Speaker 14: Price of oil.
- 51:24Speaker 13: They don't control the price of commodities. I mean the
- 51:26Speaker 13: market does that now. They can't they can't do anything
- 51:30Speaker 13: to improve the price, but sometimes they can interfere and
- 51:33Speaker 13: artificially screw it up. And I think that's what we've seen.
- 51:35Speaker 13: So hopefully we're seeing a return to normal. And look,
- 51:38Speaker 13: I'm not trying to hate on Trump, but I think
- 51:42Speaker 13: you have to look at all of this stuff for
- 51:43Speaker 13: what it is. We're casting these huge visions and we're
- 51:48Speaker 13: settling for very very little. Somebody explained to me why
- 51:51Speaker 13: China essentially gets a better deal than our long standing
- 51:54Speaker 13: ally great Britain. Explain that to me, because I'm still
- 51:56Speaker 13: stretching my head on that.
- 51:57Speaker 5: I thank you. A lot of other people are, But
- 51:59Speaker 5: to try living without Chinese products and see what happens're
- 52:02Speaker 5: supposed to live without British products.
- 52:04Speaker 13: Well, even Best said yesterday, we're not trying to decouple
- 52:06Speaker 13: anymore because we can't.
- 52:07Speaker 3: We're not ready for it.
- 52:09Speaker 5: And maybe that's someone's fault, but we can't. All right,
- 52:11Speaker 5: Quick text Trump reverse Biden's IRA A cap of insulin
- 52:14Speaker 5: says it's extra. All right, we gotta leave it there.
- 52:16Speaker 5: Coming up on the show tomorrow, Folks in the Mountain,
- 52:18Speaker 5: your food bank will stop buying more in this Sunday's
