- 0:25Speaker 1: am bad and ain't know I'm bad.
- 0:27Speaker 2: I'm an peggy out.
- 0:28Speaker 1: It's the paving a dollar to speak this.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Out, shelter coach, well cousin to the grill out from

- 0:58Speaker 1: that's okay, Josh Cole, Yeah, one of the co hosts,
- 1:02Speaker 1: Jason linkins the current reigning.
- 1:06Speaker 3: No, it's not good that you don't have me in
- 1:08Speaker 3: front of a microphone. What the viewers and listeners want
- 1:11Speaker 3: to hear is the sweet, soothing tones of the reflection
- 1:16Speaker 3: of perfection.
- 1:19Speaker 1: More like deception. But okay, all right, We've been talking
- 1:24Speaker 1: about this a little bit about our upcoming interview, and
- 1:28Speaker 1: one thing that we love to talk about on this
- 1:30Speaker 1: program is the history of professional wrestling, especially when that
- 1:33Speaker 1: history makes its way to the Mountain State. Grappalachia is
- 1:37Speaker 1: a highly anticipated documentary from West Virginia Public Broadcasting that
- 1:41Speaker 1: is quote a love letter to wrestling in Appalachia end quote,
- 1:45Speaker 1: according to Casey King, Troy Rankin is the director and
- 1:50Speaker 1: producer of the upcoming documentary coming out on December thirtieth,
- 1:54Speaker 1: and he's joining us. Now, how are you doing?
- 1:56Speaker 2: I'm doing all right? How you doing?
- 1:58Speaker 1: Trying to stay warm?
- 2:00Speaker 2: It is miserably cold outside, and I'm glad we're just
- 2:04Speaker 2: doing this on the inside. Honestly, I'm glad this isn't
- 2:06Speaker 2: like an outdoor thing.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Oh yeah, no, no, no, listen, I'm a fat guy,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and I don't I'm not. Don't you don't say there's
- 2:13Speaker 1: a reason why I'm on radio. So but yeah, no,
- 2:16Speaker 1: there's no reason to do that outside. And it's just
- 2:18Speaker 1: way too cold right now. But anyway, I want to
- 2:21Speaker 1: go ahead and jump right into this with Grapple at
- 2:24Speaker 1: you and just start from the beginning and like how
- 2:28Speaker 1: did this come about?
- 2:30Speaker 2: Like, well, I am not originally from West Virginia. I'm
- 2:35Speaker 2: from Colorado, and I moved to about five years ago,
- 2:39Speaker 2: and as I've made friends through the years, you know,
- 2:42Speaker 2: in Colorado, like wrestling was my dirty little secret. Pro
- 2:44Speaker 2: wrestling was like nobody. They're like you still watch that, dude.
- 2:47Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I.
- 2:48Speaker 4: Goes so.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And I got here and immediately my girlfriend at the
- 2:56Speaker 2: time now wife introduced me to people who like the
- 3:00Speaker 2: first aw that was here. They were like, we got tickets,
- 3:02Speaker 2: We're going. And I didn't get to go to that.
- 3:03Speaker 2: I was elsewhere, but I was like, oh, these people
- 3:07Speaker 2: are these people love it here. And so then I
- 3:11Speaker 2: made friends with those those people and they took me
- 3:13Speaker 2: to the first indie show down in Kanall City at
- 3:16Speaker 2: Pro Wrestling Conquest, and uh, I'm sitting there and I'm
- 3:19Speaker 2: watching this guy, Jock Samson, and he's healing it up
- 3:22Speaker 2: and he's like, honestly one of the best like indie
- 3:25Speaker 2: heels I think I've ever seen. He's just sitting there.
- 3:26Speaker 2: He's just trash in West virgin He's like West Virginia,
- 3:29Speaker 2: U hill Billy's you rednecks, this and that and the other. Uh,
- 3:32Speaker 2: you know, he just eating it up. Can I how
- 3:35Speaker 2: what what kind of language can I use on this?
- 3:37Speaker 1: I will say this is uh FCCA regulated, because this
- 3:42Speaker 1: will go out Monday at one o three on WSWW
- 3:46Speaker 1: and then it will be so we'll go out tomorrow
- 3:48Speaker 1: We're when whatever time you're listening to this, and then
- 3:53Speaker 1: tomorrow night at seven o three will be on w
- 3:55Speaker 1: c HS.
- 3:56Speaker 2: So yeah, well then I'll I will take some less
- 4:00Speaker 2: full things that were said.
- 4:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I've been the Pro Wrestling Conquest show, so I
- 4:05Speaker 1: could imagine.
- 4:06Speaker 2: So yeah, as you as you know, it's a little
- 4:09Speaker 2: it's a little more adult friendly. And I look and
- 4:12Speaker 2: I'm kind of looking around, taking the crowd and seeing
- 4:14Speaker 2: what's going on, because you know, loli inde crowds are
- 4:16Speaker 2: you know, Smarky and h. I see this older woman.
- 4:21Speaker 2: I look up and she's just flipping this guy at
- 4:24Speaker 2: the bird yelling f you as loud as she can.
- 4:27Speaker 2: She's like, go back to a hi, you piece of
- 4:28Speaker 2: try like you piecea in trash. And I was like,
- 4:31Speaker 2: oh my god, they love it, Like what is this?
- 4:34Speaker 2: What is this like? Buy in? And so from there,
- 4:40Speaker 2: my step kid's dad is a wrestler, and I talked
- 4:43Speaker 2: to him about it and he got me in with
- 4:45Speaker 2: Gary Damren with All Star Wrestling and we had a
- 4:47Speaker 2: little meeting and then it was just kind of it
- 4:50Speaker 2: just kind of snowball from there, and then I just
- 4:52Speaker 2: a million interviews later and a bunch of beer roll later,
- 4:55Speaker 2: and now I've got twenty six short documentary.
- 4:58Speaker 1: Oh wow, Okay, see, like, yeah, those pro wrestling Conquest
- 5:03Speaker 1: shows can get a little rowdy. They're very much more indie,
- 5:08Speaker 1: more of an indie field. And also I know what
- 5:09Speaker 1: you're talking about because just this year at Regatta Pro,
- 5:13Speaker 1: I was talking to one of the vendors there and
- 5:16Speaker 1: the lady is from she was from Florida, and she
- 5:18Speaker 1: was like, I have never seen this, Like people are
- 5:20Speaker 1: having so much fun around here, and she's like, we
- 5:23Speaker 1: don't have this down in Florida. I'm like, really, of
- 5:26Speaker 1: all places, you guys don't have it there. So yeah,
- 5:29Speaker 1: I'm I'm not sure exactly, but yeah, I one thing
- 5:33Speaker 1: that I have heard, did you did you get a
- 5:35Speaker 1: chance to talk with Adam Harris? I did, Well, he's
- 5:38Speaker 1: my coworker, so oh okay, okay, So one thing I've
- 5:41Speaker 1: heard Adam say is that, like Charleston is a wrestling town,
- 5:46Speaker 1: West Virginia is a wrestling town. I'm sure you've since
- 5:48Speaker 1: it's your coworker. You've heard him say the same thing
- 5:50Speaker 1: many times. So with this documentary that that's basically what
- 5:53Speaker 1: this is showing is like, hey, this is this is
- 5:56Speaker 1: it's bigger here than people realize.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I said, I did, not, Like I was all
- 6:02Speaker 2: the way down in Madison, you know, not all the
- 6:04Speaker 2: way down It's it's just an hour drive. But like
- 6:06Speaker 2: going to see All Star Wrestling, and like on a
- 6:08Speaker 2: Saturday night in the middle of the summer, they packed
- 6:11Speaker 2: the auditorium out with like two hundre three hundred people
- 6:14Speaker 2: to just go see you know, the local indie guys.
- 6:16Speaker 2: And so I mean there's there's something else to it.
- 6:20Speaker 2: And like through the interviews, I found like people just
- 6:23Speaker 2: you know, it's been on TV. It was on TV
- 6:25Speaker 2: every Saturday and then, and people just kind of it's
- 6:27Speaker 2: like deep within the like in the DNA of this place,
- 6:32Speaker 2: I think, and like as I as I've like lived
- 6:35Speaker 2: here and learned to like, I don't know, I'm not
- 6:38Speaker 2: I've not learned to love I love it here, don't
- 6:40Speaker 2: don't get me wrong. As I've like learned to like
- 6:42Speaker 2: see how apple Achian things are, and like I I see,
- 6:46Speaker 2: I see how a lot of wrestling is like totally
- 6:49Speaker 2: into how how wrestling could like permeate its way through
- 6:52Speaker 2: and like stick through this entire time. O.
- 6:54Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's it is. Uh, it's it's more ingrained
- 6:58Speaker 1: in the culture around here than people realize. So yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 1: and actually I'm wonna go hand Tall Snover.
- 7:02Speaker 5: So you mentioned All Star Wrestling. Did you talk to
- 7:04Speaker 5: like any other promotions.
- 7:06Speaker 2: I didn't. I had a bit of some budgetary issues.
- 7:10Speaker 2: So initially the goal was to like go up and
- 7:12Speaker 2: down Appalachia yea, yeah, and like you know, just start
- 7:15Speaker 2: as far south as I can go, as far north
- 7:17Speaker 2: as I could go, and then they were like, no,
- 7:20Speaker 2: no real travel, so I kind of could only kind
- 7:22Speaker 2: of stick to Charleston and Madison and I probably could
- 7:26Speaker 2: have gone up to Parkersburg, but at that point, like
- 7:28Speaker 2: things were spiling out of control in terms of like producing,
- 7:31Speaker 2: so I just kind of got yeah, because I.
- 7:33Speaker 5: Know West Virginia has like nearly thirty promotions, maybe some
- 7:35Speaker 5: we don't even know about, so I just kind of
- 7:36Speaker 5: curious about that.
- 7:37Speaker 2: Yeah, and of course I would love to have given everybody,
- 7:40Speaker 2: Yeah there they are due time, but you know, it
- 7:43Speaker 2: just I only had twenty six minutes and you know,
- 7:47Speaker 2: I could have talked to every I could have talked
- 7:49Speaker 2: to everybody that hit a ring, and you know there
- 7:51Speaker 2: was a manager or this or that, and I just
- 7:53Speaker 2: I had to like condense it down and just make it,
- 7:56Speaker 2: you know, kind of followed.
- 7:57Speaker 5: How much did you actually record? I had to cut down.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, I have I was trying to count
- 8:02Speaker 2: the other day. I think I have like fifteen interviews.
- 8:05Speaker 2: And then I went to nine or ten shows where
- 8:08Speaker 2: I where I was just shouldered up the entire shoulder
- 8:12Speaker 2: up with the camera. Sorry, I forget, this is not
- 8:16Speaker 2: It's okay this radio lan yeah. Yeah, and I'm using
- 8:19Speaker 2: jargon so it's even better. And so I recorded a
- 8:24Speaker 2: lot of things and then I recognized that, like I
- 8:25Speaker 2: needed some more help, so I had other guys. So
- 8:27Speaker 2: it's like I had got one hundred and fifty hours
- 8:30Speaker 2: maybe worth stuff. Yeah wow, And like I I probably
- 8:34Speaker 2: could have made it longer. But then there's a lot more.
- 8:36Speaker 2: I'm doing this all like I have the help of
- 8:39Speaker 2: my the staff that I'm with, but like a lot
- 8:42Speaker 2: of these documentaries that we make are just kind of
- 8:44Speaker 2: solo projects.
- 8:45Speaker 3: So yeah, so what what challenges did you face during
- 8:48Speaker 3: the production, you know, like promotional issues, wrestling issues, equipment issues.
- 8:53Speaker 2: Uh, well, the biggest thing is getting wrestlers to come
- 8:59Speaker 2: to an interview, booking their time because they these guys
- 9:03Speaker 2: and girls, they have nine to five jobs and so
- 9:06Speaker 2: they're only really doing this on the weekend, and so
- 9:08Speaker 2: they're only like unless unless they've like committed themselves to wrestling.
- 9:11Speaker 2: But a lot of a lot of the guys and
- 9:13Speaker 2: guys I talked to were they were like, I would
- 9:17Speaker 2: go days without hearing back from somebody, and it was
- 9:20Speaker 2: kind of it was a little frustrating when trying to
- 9:22Speaker 2: book something, as you guys know if you probably you know,
- 9:24Speaker 2: you guys produce a show and it's just and it's like, hey,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you're gonna be there, You're gonna what's going on?
- 9:30Speaker 1: Yeah, we we had one interview earlier this year and
- 9:33Speaker 1: Josh and I were talking about Earli. I'm not gonna
- 9:35Speaker 1: say who who it is on the air, and I
- 9:37Speaker 1: take full responsibility. Yeah it fell through. I was, uh yeah,
- 9:42Speaker 1: I kind of it did not line up everybody's schedules,
- 9:46Speaker 1: and it just a whole interview itself filter. So yeah,
- 9:48Speaker 1: I completely understand the frustrating Thanks Jason. It was we
- 9:54Speaker 1: had we were supposed to.
- 9:56Speaker 2: That's that's a yeah. But but but you know that's
- 10:01Speaker 2: that's also like I have, I have parameters I have
- 10:03Speaker 2: to work around too, because I can only work nine
- 10:04Speaker 2: to five, So it's not like a traditional TV production
- 10:08Speaker 2: job where I would say, you know, if they if
- 10:10Speaker 2: they're only available at a certain amount of time at
- 10:12Speaker 2: a certain time, then I can go book that. And
- 10:14Speaker 2: I've got to work within the parameters of my job too,
- 10:16Speaker 2: which was also difficult. But other than that, like talking
- 10:20Speaker 2: to him and like I you know, I'm I'm a
- 10:23Speaker 2: big of a dork as they are when they're when
- 10:25Speaker 2: it comes to wrestling, so like it was just easy conversations,
- 10:28Speaker 2: Like it was just good. And then I had another
- 10:31Speaker 2: coworker who loves wrestling, so he like came along and
- 10:33Speaker 2: did all the audio recording. It was it was like,
- 10:35Speaker 2: I don't know, I I've worked on harder things, but
- 10:40Speaker 2: this one seemed like knocking on the hardest thing was
- 10:43Speaker 2: they edit and booking people.
- 10:44Speaker 1: But I was gonna say, is it because like where
- 10:47Speaker 1: you have such a passion for professional wrestling, it was
- 10:49Speaker 1: just you know, sort of easier to produce something.
- 10:53Speaker 2: Like this, Like yeah, I think so. I think I
- 10:56Speaker 2: think having a passion project and having.
- 10:58Speaker 1: A be which is basically what this show is.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, and having it having it just kind of
- 11:06Speaker 2: I don't know, yeah, just letting few and letting and
- 11:09Speaker 2: having you know, your bosses go yeah, go go have
- 11:11Speaker 2: fun with them, you know, don't spend too much money
- 11:13Speaker 2: and actually don't spend a whole lot. I don't spend
- 11:16Speaker 2: any money if you can, and then go make make
- 11:19Speaker 2: whatever you want. And I was like that, that's fantastic.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Director producer for grap Elaboratory Rankin is joining us right now.
- 11:27Speaker 3: You mentioned that it's a passion project. So what is
- 11:30Speaker 3: your hopeful biggest takeaway that the audience gets from grap Aalacha.
- 11:37Speaker 2: I kind of want I don't know, I I you know,
- 11:40Speaker 2: that's a great question. I have not thought about long
- 11:42Speaker 2: term about what they should take on. I hope hopefully
- 11:45Speaker 2: I have like simplified wrestling to a way where people
- 11:50Speaker 2: can kind of understand it. I mean, it's that's there's
- 11:52Speaker 2: so much. There's so much that you'll never like unless
- 11:54Speaker 2: you dive in, you know, with both feet, and uh.
- 11:58Speaker 2: But I think I think hopefully I want them to
- 12:00Speaker 2: take away that like there are. There's a lot of
- 12:02Speaker 2: talents here in West Virginia, and there's a lot of
- 12:05Speaker 2: talented wrestlers here in West Virginia, and it would be
- 12:09Speaker 2: a shame if these bigger promotions kind of overlook that.
- 12:12Speaker 1: Was there any like moments during filming that surprised you
- 12:16Speaker 1: or changed your perspective on anything, or may have caught
- 12:21Speaker 1: you off guard a little bit?
- 12:23Speaker 2: Not honestly, No, not really. Maybe maybe it's just I
- 12:26Speaker 2: have spent a little bit about I'm gonna bore you
- 12:29Speaker 2: with my background for one second. I worked I worked
- 12:32Speaker 2: in reality TV for like twelve or thirteen years before
- 12:35Speaker 2: I got this job at Public Broadcasting. So like, there's
- 12:38Speaker 2: not a lot that like shocks me.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Well coming from that field, I could, I could understand.
- 12:44Speaker 2: And so like I didn't get I didn't see like
- 12:46Speaker 2: the I didn't get into like the nitty gritty of things.
- 12:49Speaker 2: I didn't I didn't like I did. I wasn't trying
- 12:50Speaker 2: to like drill down deep and you know, see like
- 12:53Speaker 2: who these people are. I mean, that's not let me
- 12:57Speaker 2: rephrase that. I wasn't like it wasn't trying to be
- 13:00Speaker 2: like an expos a or anything. This is like a
- 13:01Speaker 2: love letter right, like Casey Skink said, it's a love
- 13:04Speaker 2: letter and like while while there was a CD nder
- 13:07Speaker 2: side of wrestling, like I didn't see any of that,
- 13:10Speaker 2: And I think that's also like an attribute to like
- 13:13Speaker 2: modern day wrestling and how that Yeah.
- 13:15Speaker 1: I was, I was gonna say yeah with with like
- 13:17Speaker 1: the I guess the back scenes dirt sheet type stuff
- 13:21Speaker 1: has sort of tainted some of the images of wrestling,
- 13:25Speaker 1: like it's I'll say this just for an example, and
- 13:28Speaker 1: I've mentioned it on the show before the all out
- 13:30Speaker 1: brawl out that everybody has everybody's got an opinion on
- 13:34Speaker 1: between the Bucks and Canny and c him Punk. It
- 13:36Speaker 1: literally took me out of wrestling for like four months,
- 13:39Speaker 1: four to five months, like because the the backstage stuff
- 13:42Speaker 1: just got so out of hand. I just I couldn't
- 13:44Speaker 1: couldn't do it. So I get that.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I'm sorry. I wasn't interested in any of that.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I just want I just want to, like I just
- 13:51Speaker 2: wanted to like show cool wrestling moves and like interview
- 13:54Speaker 2: cool people, and that was basically what I got to do.
- 13:57Speaker 5: So, like, what is the difference between the wrestling culture
- 13:59Speaker 5: between here in Colorado And did you learn anything new
- 14:02Speaker 5: about wrestling in this region there.
- 14:05Speaker 2: I mean, there's not a lot of wrestling culture in Colorado,
- 14:09Speaker 2: not that I can tell, or maybe maybe it's just
- 14:11Speaker 2: like I didn't put myself in it as much. I
- 14:15Speaker 2: will say, like I'm more of an avowed like bigger
- 14:17Speaker 2: promotion watcher, and then I kind of get more through
- 14:22Speaker 2: the indies, going through the indies through Reddit and like
- 14:24Speaker 2: some friends in Los Angeles and stuff. But I didn't
- 14:29Speaker 2: notice a big culture in Colorado. I never really saw
- 14:31Speaker 2: promotion for it or anything. So I would definitely say, like,
- 14:36Speaker 2: like like I said earlier, it's just the it's night
- 14:38Speaker 2: and day in a lot of places. But I think
- 14:41Speaker 2: West Virginia in itself is like very unique in how
- 14:45Speaker 2: how they view how they how they view of wrestling.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Is yeah, because like one thing growing up around here,
- 14:52Speaker 1: you heard I heard stories all the time about when
- 14:54Speaker 1: Flair would come to town, when Dusty Rhodes would come
- 14:57Speaker 1: to town, when Jim Cornett and then would come to
- 14:58Speaker 1: town actually with ASD they had. I was there the
- 15:03Speaker 1: night that Jim Cornett in the Midnight Express got inducted
- 15:06Speaker 1: into their Hall of Fame. And Jimmy Cornette goes on
- 15:10Speaker 1: to tell this story about how they were at the
- 15:12Speaker 1: Madison Civic Center before and they got arrested or something
- 15:16Speaker 1: in the Madison because you know, the police department's right
- 15:18Speaker 1: beside it, so like the police had to get involved
- 15:20Speaker 1: in everything and just talk about how crazy it was
- 15:23Speaker 1: in those days. And actually I've also heard that like
- 15:26Speaker 1: Bruiser Brodie in them would come to town. So and
- 15:30Speaker 1: I asked, have you ever heard of Dave Allen?
- 15:33Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, I don't know personally, but yes, so he was.
- 15:36Speaker 1: He got inducted the same night as Jim Cornett. And
- 15:39Speaker 1: I asked him, I'm like, so, I've always heard that
- 15:42Speaker 1: like this was a semi hotbed for wrestling. He said
- 15:45Speaker 1: that it really wasn't. But when you go back and
- 15:48Speaker 1: you look at like old like old promos and stuff
- 15:51Speaker 1: with Jim Cornett and them, they stopped in West Virginia
- 15:55Speaker 1: an awful lot in between the bigger cities.
- 15:57Speaker 2: It's also my understanding and in Madison that ICW used
- 16:01Speaker 2: to run shows here and that was the PAOs. So
- 16:05Speaker 2: like Landy Pofo and Randy Savage, we're here quite a
- 16:08Speaker 2: bit as well. So there's I have some old archival
- 16:11Speaker 2: footage of ICW wrestling that I kind of intersperse through it,
- 16:14Speaker 2: and it's not I wish it could. They whoever I
- 16:17Speaker 2: talked to, I forget who it was. Oh, Joe Don
- 16:20Speaker 2: Browski was his name. His name, and he was like,
- 16:24Speaker 2: I'm looking through the archives. I don't have a bunch
- 16:26Speaker 2: of stuff what we whatever we film because most of
- 16:29Speaker 2: that is based in Kentucky. But they did, they did
- 16:33Speaker 2: film some shows here, so that I have like a
- 16:35Speaker 2: little bit of stuff from Beckley, but it's like, it's
- 16:37Speaker 2: not stuff I can really show on PBS. It's like
- 16:38Speaker 2: a woman wrestling a bear. So I'm like, I don't
- 16:42Speaker 2: know if that's gonna make the cut or not, but uh,
- 16:46Speaker 2: it was.
- 16:46Speaker 3: It's funny how many people used to wrestle bears for promotions,
- 16:51Speaker 3: like it happened a lot surprisingly. But what are your
- 16:56Speaker 3: thoughts on how, you know, just from the time that
- 16:58Speaker 3: you've spent research this and going through archival footage up
- 17:02Speaker 3: to today, just thoughts on how the wrestling industry has
- 17:06Speaker 3: changed over the years.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Oh, I mean it's changed. I mean it's I don't know.
- 17:11Speaker 2: I don't even know how you can even compare eras
- 17:13Speaker 2: even like from ten years ago to even like forty
- 17:17Speaker 2: years ago. I mean, obviously the athleticism and the in
- 17:21Speaker 2: ring stuff is completely different. There's things that you know
- 17:25Speaker 2: that you would see. I was watching those old tapes
- 17:27Speaker 2: and and you know, the crowd's going wild for like
- 17:30Speaker 2: arm drags and body slams, and now it's like that's
- 17:32Speaker 2: just like a regular old harvestance. Like if you're not
- 17:36Speaker 2: seeing a top of suicid in a match, then like,
- 17:38Speaker 2: what what's happening?
- 17:40Speaker 1: Yeah, they're just transition moves. A lot of them are now. Yeah,
- 17:44Speaker 1: especially like unless it's I was gonna say, the d DT,
- 17:46Speaker 1: unless it's.
- 17:47Speaker 6: Like Jake Roberts DDT.
- 17:49Speaker 1: If it's Jake Roberts d DT, like bam, he's going
- 17:52Speaker 1: it's they're going down right then. And there last thing
- 17:56Speaker 1: I really want to last thing I want to touch
- 17:58Speaker 1: on to before we wrapped the US up. Have you
- 18:01Speaker 1: included like commentary on how like wrestling reflects like broader
- 18:04Speaker 1: societal issues and like such as like gender roles, labor rights,
- 18:08Speaker 1: et cetera, et cetera.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I know I didn't have enough time to do that.
- 18:12Speaker 2: I wish I could have.
- 18:14Speaker 1: Well, I could imagine what twenty six minutes you can.
- 18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, Ultimately it was like it was like these people
- 18:21Speaker 2: are cool. I want to shine a light on how
- 18:24Speaker 2: cool these people are and how cool the wrestling scene
- 18:26Speaker 2: is here and like on a broader and like on
- 18:30Speaker 2: a broader like macro level like that. I wish I
- 18:33Speaker 2: could have done that. There's a little bit of like
- 18:37Speaker 2: I had a couple guys talk about actually Adam does
- 18:40Speaker 2: and another wrestler, Shane Storm, kind of mentioned like this
- 18:44Speaker 2: is kind of like an outlet for people with not
- 18:46Speaker 2: maybe there maybe there comes a little less than you know,
- 18:49Speaker 2: what's typical across the United States, and like this is
- 18:52Speaker 2: a good outlet and good entertainment for people. It's cheap
- 18:55Speaker 2: entertainment and it's honestly some of the best wrestling you'll see.
- 18:58Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and last thing I will say that's not
- 19:02Speaker 1: so much a question, but it involved Pro Wrestling Conquest.
- 19:07Speaker 1: So Shatzi Blackheart, she was going to Pro Wresting Conquest
- 19:11Speaker 1: a lot before and this I've been a Conquest twice.
- 19:15Speaker 1: Both times somebody went to a bigger promotion afterwards. Shotti
- 19:17Speaker 1: Blackhart was the first when she went to n XTA afterwards.
- 19:20Speaker 1: And then I was there when Dan Housen was in town.
- 19:24Speaker 2: Oh I saw it. I filmed Dan Housen. Oh my god.
- 19:27Speaker 2: He was at ASW last month and he signed a release,
- 19:30Speaker 2: So he's gonna make I like, I'm not he's not
- 19:32Speaker 2: part of the promotion, Like that's kind of gross if
- 19:34Speaker 2: I did that, right, Like, he's not didn't. I didn't
- 19:36Speaker 2: talk to him other than to be like, hey, sign
- 19:37Speaker 2: this release, but like he was very like the nicest guy.
- 19:40Speaker 2: He was like, oh yeah, cool, awesome signed it. And
- 19:42Speaker 2: I was like, well, I mean I gotta put him
- 19:44Speaker 2: in but yeah, but yeah, but yeah, Dan Housen amazing, amazing,
- 19:48Speaker 2: one of my favorite characters.
- 19:49Speaker 1: Yeah, he I will and I'll end with this the
- 19:55Speaker 1: when I did Sorry. I got a chance to meet
- 19:57Speaker 1: Dan Housen at Pro Wresting Conquest that's right before he
- 19:59Speaker 1: signed with a AW is like six months before he
- 20:01Speaker 1: signed with them, and that was when he had like
- 20:03Speaker 1: blown up. So like my brother and my friend we
- 20:08Speaker 1: were like the last ones in line and we get
- 20:10Speaker 1: up there to him and we're like, hey, you know,
- 20:12Speaker 1: we want autographs, pictures and stuff, and he's like out
- 20:16Speaker 1: of character at this point and he's like, I am
- 20:18Speaker 1: shocked with how many people showed up to this show,
- 20:22Speaker 1: So where can they see this? Where can they get it?
- 20:26Speaker 2: This will be on Oh shoot, I should know the
- 20:30Speaker 2: name of the app. I don't. It's the Uh. It'll
- 20:33Speaker 2: be online on the PBS app and it will be
- 20:37Speaker 2: on air December thirtieth. I have not received a time
- 20:40Speaker 2: of when it will air. My guess is primetime. So
- 20:43Speaker 2: we joked about because slamming the New Year with Grapple Lash.
- 20:48Speaker 1: There you go, there you go, and we are very
- 20:50Speaker 1: much looking forward to it. Here director producer for Grapple
- 20:53Speaker 1: actor Roy Troy Rankin, We're gonna shift gears real quick,
- 20:57Speaker 1: and we will do on this day in wrestling history,
- 21:12Speaker 1: December twenty second, nineteen ninety seven, Just six days before
- 21:15Speaker 1: the biggest pay per view in their history, World Championship
- 21:18Speaker 1: Wrestling decided it would be a good idea to spend
- 21:20Speaker 1: the first half hour of Monday NIGHTRO watching the nWo
- 21:24Speaker 1: change the WCW set to an nWo themed one. The
- 21:28Speaker 1: experiment to see if the nWo could sustain their own
- 21:31Speaker 1: program resulted in losing twenty five percent of the audience
- 21:35Speaker 1: in the first half of the show.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I couldn't imagine why that didn't work.
- 21:41Speaker 1: What year is that, nineteen ninety seven?
- 21:44Speaker 2: Oh wow?
- 21:45Speaker 1: Yeah, So like This was a week before the sting
- 21:50Speaker 1: Halt Hogan match. Is am I correct on that?
- 21:53Speaker 4: Yes?
- 21:54Speaker 1: Yeah? Like okay, all right. December twenty second, two thousand
- 21:58Speaker 1: ww WCW December twenty second, two thousand and eight WWE
- 22:04Speaker 1: SmackDown was taped in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. On the show,
- 22:08Speaker 1: Maurice defeated Michelle McCool to Britain the WWE Davis Championship,
- 22:12Speaker 1: in which Maria was the special guest referee. Wow, yeah,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I was. I was digging deep for some of these.
- 22:24Speaker 1: December twenty second, twenty seventeen, Ray Mysteria presented Lucha Wonderland
- 22:29Speaker 1: from l Cajun, California, Calhoun. Pretty sure, I don't know.
- 22:35Speaker 1: In the main event, Mysterio and Rocky Romero defeated John Hannigan,
- 22:40Speaker 1: John Morrison and Lucasaurus. And with that, we're gonna take
- 22:44Speaker 1: a quick break. When we come back, we're gonna do
- 22:47Speaker 1: predictions for aw Worlds in and Troy is going to
- 22:50Speaker 1: be our guest picker. So stay tuned.
- 23:02Speaker 3: It's time for more of the grill out here.
- 23:04Speaker 4: It's Hollywood, Jeff.
- 23:05Speaker 1: Paper, Welcome back, ladies, gentlemen, to the grill out. I'm
- 23:10Speaker 1: your host Hollywood Jeff Betty. I'm joined by my co
- 23:13Speaker 1: host both of them, Josh Colebye. Yeah, long lost cousin
- 23:18Speaker 1: of Adam Cole, or at least we think. So we'll
- 23:21Speaker 1: see if he wins. Yeah, we'll see.
- 23:22Speaker 6: We'll see.
- 23:23Speaker 4: And I'm here too.
- 23:25Speaker 1: Yes, Jason, you can come, come, come to the Mike
- 23:27Speaker 1: Chump the Mike.
- 23:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm here.
- 23:32Speaker 1: That's Jason like Likens, the current reigning and defending Grill
- 23:35Speaker 1: Outs Predictions Champion. We're also joined by director and producer
- 23:40Speaker 1: for Grapple Act to Troy Rankin. He's gonna be our
- 23:43Speaker 1: just our guest picker for this, so.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Hopefully I'm like a shallow May and I'm killing it.
- 23:48Speaker 2: But we'll see.
- 23:49Speaker 1: Yeah, this is our last predictions. Well we have we
- 23:53Speaker 1: have our year predictions next week that we're going to do,
- 23:57Speaker 1: but this is our last predictions as far as pay
- 23:59Speaker 1: per views go. AW World's End Continental Classic Final for
- 24:05Speaker 1: the AW Continental Champion.
- 24:06Speaker 5: There are two semi finals in the final, but we
- 24:08Speaker 5: don't really know who's going be in the semifinals.
- 24:10Speaker 1: So okay, so what how are we doing this one?
- 24:14Speaker 1: I guess we'll just.
- 24:17Speaker 5: Yeah, I guess we'll just pick who we think is
- 24:19Speaker 5: going to win the whole thing.
- 24:20Speaker 1: Maybe, okay, we can do that.
- 24:22Speaker 5: And right now the Blue League Mark Briscoe and Cal
- 24:25Speaker 5: Fletcher leading both at nine points, and then the Gold
- 24:28Speaker 5: League Claudia Castagni and Ricochet leading nine points. Can't forget
- 24:32Speaker 5: because Okata is the reigning champion. He's in Blue League
- 24:34Speaker 5: with seven points currently at time of this recording.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Okay, all right, yeah, we'll just we'll roll with that.
- 24:41Speaker 1: We we were planning this out, just like Tony Kahn
- 24:44Speaker 1: plans some of this other stuff out, some of us booking.
- 24:47Speaker 1: As far as.
- 24:50Speaker 5: I guess, we would say between those five Mark Briscoe,
- 24:52Speaker 5: Cal Fletcher, Claudia Cassi, Ricochet, and Kaziko Kata.
- 24:56Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, now I'm just gonna I'm gonna be a
- 24:58Speaker 1: little basic on this. So I'm just gonna go Okada.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Just that's That's that's where I'm gonna go with it.
- 25:04Speaker 1: So yeah, Josh, I'm gonna go cal Fletcher. You're gonna
- 25:11Speaker 1: go Fletcher.
- 25:11Speaker 2: Yeah, Okay, those guys have been impressive. I am a
- 25:16Speaker 2: huge Ocada Mark and I just like anything that man does.
- 25:21Speaker 2: I will watch. So I'm I'm I think it's gonna
- 25:24Speaker 2: be Okada, but look out for I want to say Okada.
- 25:27Speaker 2: But Mark Briscoe is like maybe my dark horse.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, all right, Jason.
- 25:33Speaker 3: You see as much as I would love to go
- 25:34Speaker 3: Bobby Blaze, but I think, Okay, so you take the
- 25:39Speaker 3: title off of Brisco, you have him in a tournament,
- 25:43Speaker 3: you give it to Brisco.
- 25:46Speaker 1: Okay, so you're gonna go Brisco. Yeah, I get it.
- 25:49Speaker 1: I get it. Yeah. And yeah, Troy is this is
- 25:55Speaker 1: Bobby Wlayze's number one fan number.
- 25:59Speaker 5: You want to telling the story which how he met
- 26:03Speaker 5: but sort of saw him, how he learned of him?
- 26:08Speaker 3: Okay, I didn't learn of him at that event. I
- 26:12Speaker 3: remember watching Bobby Blaize as a small child. I was
- 26:15Speaker 3: a child, not Bobby Blaize. That would be creepy. We
- 26:21Speaker 3: were at the what was the name of that event?
- 26:24Speaker 3: It was like a wrestle Con event for.
- 26:26Speaker 5: A Yeah, it was part of the awing before it
- 26:29Speaker 5: was it. I don't think it was his last one
- 26:31Speaker 5: thing was one before that?
- 26:32Speaker 4: Right?
- 26:32Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a really in depth story. There's really
- 26:35Speaker 3: no payoff to this story. It's just Bobby Blaze was there.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Yeah, but no one was there for him.
- 26:41Speaker 3: No, No, people were only there to see Kurt Angle.
- 26:45Speaker 3: And then there was Ronnie Garvin at the very end
- 26:49Speaker 3: of the line in which one of the people working
- 26:53Speaker 3: walked by us and there was a guy standing close
- 26:56Speaker 3: to us who asked. The guy working was like, hey,
- 26:58Speaker 3: who who is that at the end, and the look
- 27:00Speaker 3: that's Ronnie Garvin. He was like, Okay, so it's always
- 27:03Speaker 3: nice to know where that guy was.
- 27:05Speaker 5: Me.
- 27:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't realize it was Ronnie Garvin. Again, this
- 27:08Speaker 3: story has no payoff. I have no idea.
- 27:10Speaker 1: Why just just give it to me. Just give it
- 27:14Speaker 1: to me.
- 27:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 27:15Speaker 1: No, his biggest Bubby Blaze fan ever.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Yep.
- 27:19Speaker 2: All right.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Next match for the A E W Dynamite Diamond Ring
- 27:24Speaker 1: m JF, your ring holder against Josh's cousin long lost
- 27:27Speaker 1: maybe cousin Adam Cole Bye bye.
- 27:30Speaker 5: Yeah twice removed from a third generation no longer here.
- 27:34Speaker 1: M JF is like a five time Dynamite donaman, He's
- 27:37Speaker 1: the only Yeah, he's like five times. So I'm gonna
- 27:41Speaker 1: go Cole. Just no, yeah, give it to Cole please,
- 27:45Speaker 1: for the love of God.
- 27:47Speaker 5: I would give it to him me, but I'm going
- 27:51Speaker 5: m JF. Cole is the heel here, even though he's
- 27:55Speaker 5: percent as the face he screwed MJF last year.
- 27:59Speaker 1: That's true, that true. But yeah he's the devil what okay? Yeah,
- 28:03Speaker 1: you got me there, you got me there.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Troy, I'm going MJF. I think they're just I think
- 28:07Speaker 2: this is going to be a running gag. As long
- 28:08Speaker 2: as he is an w aa n w ae w
- 28:12Speaker 2: got root brown the brain, as long as he's in
- 28:15Speaker 2: aw I think he's gonna hold that ring forever.
- 28:19Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, So when does the show air.
- 28:24Speaker 1: Today?
- 28:26Speaker 3: Today, and tomorrow and tomorrow.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it will. It will go out today at four
- 28:32Speaker 1: o'clock on the podcast World's End next Saturday.
- 28:37Speaker 3: This is Saturday Saturday, which is the date of twenty eighth,
- 28:40Speaker 3: twenty eighth, and what is the twenty fourth.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Christmas Eve?
- 28:48Speaker 3: No, it is the first night of Hanukkah. So MJF
- 28:52Speaker 3: will win more than one religion, Jeff.
- 28:59Speaker 1: I know that.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Was a great setup.
- 29:04Speaker 6: He's not not.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Even close to all right, Uh, Tijuana Street Fight for
- 29:10Speaker 1: the a W Women's World Championship. Mariah May, You're champion
- 29:14Speaker 1: defending it against thunder Rosa. You know I like Rosa.
- 29:19Speaker 6: I do.
- 29:19Speaker 1: I think she's I think she's great in the ring.
- 29:22Speaker 1: But I've got to go May on this one. It's
- 29:25Speaker 1: gonna be May.
- 29:26Speaker 5: You took it from me, Yeah, it's it's gonna be May.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, it's it's because.
- 29:31Speaker 5: Because next will be twenty time.
- 29:34Speaker 1: True true joy.
- 29:36Speaker 2: I am not totally familiar with the women's division there,
- 29:39Speaker 2: but I think they're just gonna keep it on. Yeah,
- 29:44Speaker 2: that was gonna be my next comment. I think they're
- 29:47Speaker 2: just gonna keep it on Mariah May. I don't. Thunder
- 29:50Speaker 2: Rose already held it, and I don't. She was not
- 29:52Speaker 2: a very good champion to my understanding, so yeah, stays
- 29:57Speaker 2: on May.
- 29:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I think from my understanding, like thunder Rosa was
- 30:00Speaker 1: like great chasing the belt, and then when she got
- 30:03Speaker 1: the belt it wasn't and she got injured and had
- 30:06Speaker 1: to vacate it.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Yeah, they had the little interim champion thing for a
- 30:10Speaker 5: bit there because of that.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Yeah, well we've already that interim champion stuff was no, no,
- 30:17Speaker 1: thank you, yeah, thank you? All right, Jason May gonna
- 30:23Speaker 1: go May all right, next match.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Well, I didn't think I needed to elaborate anymore on that.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I know, no you don't.
- 30:33Speaker 3: I mean, if you want me to, I will. So
- 30:35Speaker 3: thunder Rosa is a competitor. She is the challenger. Mariah
- 30:40Speaker 3: May is the champ and it's gonna be May.
- 30:48Speaker 1: I'm glad you pointed all of that out.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Me too happy to be here.
- 30:52Speaker 5: Would you like some cookies?
- 30:54Speaker 1: Don't you start with these cookies?
- 30:56Speaker 4: No? All right?
- 30:57Speaker 1: Next match for the aw International Championship, Connesk Kanowski, Yes
- 31:03Speaker 1: versus Powerhouse Hobbs. I want to say Hobbs.
- 31:10Speaker 2: I said it.
- 31:10Speaker 1: It's for the A to B International Championship.
- 31:12Speaker 6: Yeah, yes, I did.
- 31:16Speaker 1: I want to say Hobbs. But I've got to go
- 31:18Speaker 1: to Kashta. I mean the guy. I eventually see them
- 31:24Speaker 1: strapping the rocket to him and sending him to the moon.
- 31:27Speaker 1: And he's also I mean he's he's great in the ring,
- 31:31Speaker 1: awesome Hobbes as well. But I just I don't see
- 31:33Speaker 1: it going.
- 31:34Speaker 6: To Hobbs at all.
- 31:35Speaker 5: When you say you think they're going to strap the
- 31:37Speaker 5: rock to but I think this rocket is strapped to
- 31:39Speaker 5: him right now and that's why he's winning, all right, Troy.
- 31:44Speaker 2: I want to be a little contrarian and say if
- 31:46Speaker 2: the rackets rockets strapped to him, he might just drop
- 31:49Speaker 2: it and he might start chasing the title. So the
- 31:52Speaker 2: heavyweight title so maybe I think Hobbs Hobbs here.
- 31:56Speaker 3: All right, Jason, I would like to say Bobby Blaze,
- 32:03Speaker 3: That's why I said it, but I'm gonna go with uh.
- 32:07Speaker 3: You know what, I think. What you have here is
- 32:10Speaker 3: two strong competitors. It could go either way, go A
- 32:13Speaker 3: or B. By A or B I mean T or
- 32:17Speaker 3: H with the Kesco or Hobbes, and I'm gonna go
- 32:20Speaker 3: with not Hobbes.
- 32:24Speaker 1: So you're gonna go TAKESHTA.
- 32:26Speaker 3: That is correct.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Okay, that's what I'm typing it. I'm typing it right now.
- 32:32Speaker 3: I'm sorry. I was going to talk while you were typing,
- 32:34Speaker 3: so there was no dead air.
- 32:37Speaker 4: Okay.
- 32:38Speaker 3: So you are next to Mecedes A champion Chris, and if
- 32:42Speaker 3: we're the a wut TBS Championship. See it's not that hard, Jeff,
- 32:44Speaker 3: I could do your job.
- 32:49Speaker 6: Jeez.
- 32:50Speaker 1: You see you see how I get respected around here?
- 32:52Speaker 1: I get no respect at all. I get no respect.
- 32:56Speaker 2: All right.
- 32:57Speaker 1: A e WTBS championship match, Mercedes Mo. You're champion defending
- 33:01Speaker 1: it against Chris Statlander, who we interviewed on here before.
- 33:05Speaker 1: I'm let me alone, let me alone. I'm gonna go
- 33:09Speaker 1: monet on this one. Actually, no, No, I'm not my show,
- 33:15Speaker 1: my show. I'm on stat Lander. Actually, I just change
- 33:21Speaker 1: it on a whim, all right.
- 33:28Speaker 5: Josh, it would be cool to see stat Lander win
- 33:31Speaker 5: it again, become the first two time champion. I'm gonna
- 33:35Speaker 5: go Monet that money because I think it's gonna be
- 33:38Speaker 5: a bigger match later for that championship. Probably what's your
- 33:43Speaker 5: name her bodyguard person?
- 33:47Speaker 1: Who? Camille?
- 33:48Speaker 3: Yes?
- 33:49Speaker 1: Yeah, oh well yeah, yeah. You got a good point there,
- 33:52Speaker 1: I got a solid point with that. I'm still not
- 33:54Speaker 1: changing my pick, though.
- 33:55Speaker 5: Well you're wrong.
- 33:56Speaker 1: Well, you know what, there's a reason why I haven't
- 33:59Speaker 1: won this title very much, Troy.
- 34:01Speaker 2: I think Mercedes is money. She's not gonna lose.
- 34:07Speaker 1: All right, Jason.
- 34:10Speaker 3: Okay, so here's the thing. Mike keeps falling.
- 34:17Speaker 6: I believe that, as he contemplates, well.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Not because I I don't think the title is gonna
- 34:29Speaker 3: change hands, but I think stat Lander uh may win.
- 34:37Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know, but not the title.
- 34:39Speaker 3: It might be Monet because I yeah, I don't know,
- 34:43Speaker 3: I don't know. You know what I'm gonna say, money, Yeah.
- 34:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna go Monay. Okay, all right, let me type
- 34:52Speaker 1: that in. It's I know it's not. It's it's my
- 34:58Speaker 1: fat sausage fingers. Leave me alone, leave me. No, they're not,
- 35:03Speaker 1: they're not. I've alwast complete control. Main event four way
- 35:11Speaker 1: match for the a W World Championship. John Moxley, You're champion,
- 35:14Speaker 1: definite against Orange, Cassidy Hangman, Adam Page, and Jay White.
- 35:22Speaker 1: I love Jay White. I don't think he's gonna do it. Yeah,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I I I could see Cassidy eventually becoming world champion.
- 35:34Speaker 1: Don't see Page a prediction of some sort sort of
- 35:36Speaker 1: sort of. I don't see it being Paige Page. Maybe
- 35:41Speaker 1: he's been champion before, but it's not the time. I
- 35:43Speaker 1: think it's it's gonna be Moxley. Moxley's gonna walk away
- 35:46Speaker 1: with it. He's gonna end the year of twenty twenty
- 35:48Speaker 1: four as a to B world champion. Josh Moxley. All right,
- 35:53Speaker 1: just justin Roberts, what did you leave me? Be Lee Troy.
- 36:03Speaker 2: I think it's Moxley that that championship stays in that briefcase.
- 36:11Speaker 4: Sorry, I've never been on this side to see.
- 36:13Speaker 1: How terrible you also feels too soon for him to
- 36:15Speaker 1: lose it.
- 36:15Speaker 3: Too, I mean, okay, so Adam Page as a champ
- 36:20Speaker 3: was terrible, right, Like, he was just terrible. It was
- 36:23Speaker 3: all about the story of him getting it.
- 36:27Speaker 1: That's what I was getting ready to say more of
- 36:29Speaker 1: a he chased the title. It was good chasing it,
- 36:32Speaker 1: but once he got there.
- 36:34Speaker 3: Yeah, thank you for just taking the mic away from it.
- 36:37Speaker 3: And I appreciate that. Who cares what I have to
- 36:39Speaker 3: say at your show? Right exactly, it's not you know,
- 36:45Speaker 3: it's not gonna be Jay White. He'll get it, just
- 36:48Speaker 3: not yet. Orange Cassidy, not gonna happen yet. It's gonna
- 36:51Speaker 3: be well, I mean that that narrows it down. John Moxley, Yeah.
- 36:59Speaker 1: It was John Moxley. Everybody picks monthly on that one.
- 37:01Speaker 1: All right, just to recap.
- 37:04Speaker 5: The twenty other matches will probably add between now and then.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, so so full disclosure. This is not the
- 37:09Speaker 1: entire card. This is card subject to change.
- 37:12Speaker 5: The card as of December twenty seconds.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Yes, as of December twenty second. I'm sure there's gonna
- 37:16Speaker 1: be a couple other matches added because there.
- 37:19Speaker 5: Are technically two semifinals. We just don't know what those are.
- 37:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Like, we're just not gonna go through all of that.
- 37:24Speaker 1: So all right, just from the top Continental Classic Final
- 37:27Speaker 1: for the AW Continental Championships in my final winner versus
- 37:30Speaker 1: semi final winner. Troy and I both going Okada, Josh
- 37:35Speaker 1: is going Fletcher, Jason is going Brisco.
- 37:38Speaker 4: Who is going to be the winner.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Yes, next match AW Dynamite Diamond Ring. I'm going Cole.
- 37:48Speaker 1: I'm the only one that's going Adam Cole. Adam Cole
- 37:50Speaker 1: versus a MJF to ring holder. I take risk. Okay,
- 37:56Speaker 1: everybody else is going MJF on that one. Then we
- 37:59Speaker 1: have have the A to W Women's World Championship A
- 38:02Speaker 1: Tijuana Street Fights, Mari May taking one thunder Rosa defending
- 38:06Speaker 1: her title against thunder Rosa. All four of us are
- 38:10Speaker 1: going Maria May on this one. Then we get to
- 38:13Speaker 1: the A to B International Championship match. Josh, myself and
- 38:18Speaker 1: Jason I'll go Takesha. Troy actually goes Hobbs because he
- 38:21Speaker 1: wants to.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Take a risk, and that is commendable.
- 38:26Speaker 3: You know what. It's nice when people take risks. You
- 38:29Speaker 3: have to respect it.
- 38:32Speaker 1: I get no respect. I get no respect. A to
- 38:35Speaker 1: W TBS Championship match, Mercedes Monete defending her title against
- 38:39Speaker 1: Chris Statlander. I'm going Statlander while everybody else is going.
- 38:42Speaker 1: Monette chose wrong, leave me alone.
- 38:47Speaker 4: You see who everyone else is picking. You have to
- 38:50Speaker 4: follow the pack. No, don't take risks. Who does that?
- 38:56Speaker 1: You notice that Jason does not have a mic in
- 38:59Speaker 1: front of him right now. I keep we're sharing the mic,
- 39:02Speaker 1: actually going back and forth.
- 39:03Speaker 4: Because instead you get Jos on the mic. He said
- 39:08Speaker 4: so much.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, final match the main event, four way match
- 39:14Speaker 1: for the AW World Championship, John Moxley defending his title
- 39:18Speaker 1: against Orange Cassidy, Orange Cassidy, Hangman, Adam Page, and Jay White.
- 39:24Speaker 1: All four of us went with Moxley on that, and
- 39:28Speaker 1: that is all of our predictions for aw's World's End.
- 39:32Speaker 1: We're gonna shift gears real quick. And now we have
- 39:35Speaker 1: the main event.
- 39:37Speaker 4: It looks like all the talk has been done.
- 39:39Speaker 1: It's time for the main event. Here's the main event
- 39:43Speaker 1: where we go ahead and let you know what your
- 39:45Speaker 1: upcoming week in professional wrestling is going to look like internationally,
- 39:49Speaker 1: nationally and locally. As far as internationally and nationally, this
- 39:54Speaker 1: upcoming Wednesday, December twenty fifth, Christmas, it's a special Christmas
- 39:58Speaker 1: episode of AW Dynamite titled Dynamite on thirty fourth Street.

- 40:05Speaker 6: It is a miracle.
- 40:07Speaker 1: Friday, December twenty seventh, New Year's themed special for aw Rampage,
- 40:12Speaker 1: which will be the annual New Year's Smash event. This
- 40:15Speaker 1: will also be the final episode of Rampage, as the
- 40:18Speaker 1: program was not included in AEW's media rights deal with
- 40:21Speaker 1: Warner Brothers Discovery that takes effect on January first.
- 40:26Speaker 5: You did okay, Rampage.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you've helped us through, you got us through there.
- 40:32Speaker 2: Out of all the shows, it was one of.
- 40:33Speaker 1: Them had one important episode.
- 40:36Speaker 6: That's it.
- 40:37Speaker 1: That's true. It had that one episode. Yeah, yep, the
- 40:39Speaker 1: second episode was the most important episode and nothing after that.
- 40:43Speaker 1: At the time of the recording. Both Dynamite and Rampage
- 40:45Speaker 1: are being taped tonight actually December twenty second, so be
- 40:48Speaker 1: cautious of online spoilers. Saturday, December twenty eighth, we just
- 40:52Speaker 1: did predictions for this aw AWT World's Inn pay per
- 40:55Speaker 1: view at eight pm Eastern Time, which also means no

- 41:08Speaker 1: stream one Triller TV plus you spell it It's Triller right,
- 41:14Speaker 1: No Care. That's how they spell it. Yeah, yeah, not stupid, Josh.
- 41:21Speaker 3: It was a joke to understand comedy.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Yeah, I think the ten ounces of plastic is getting
- 41:27Speaker 1: to his head. No. Sunday, December twenty ninth, the women's
- 41:33Speaker 1: Japanese promotion World Wondering Stardom Startom presents it's pay per
- 41:40Speaker 1: view dream Queendom and due to the time difference, it
- 41:43Speaker 1: will air that morning at three am Eastern time. You
- 41:47Speaker 1: people have heard me talk on here about the Japanese wrestling.
- 41:50Speaker 1: If you're going to get up and you're going to
- 41:51Speaker 1: watch Josie or Nu Japan whatever, whatever type of Japanese
- 41:55Speaker 1: wrestling you're going to watch that night, either stay up
- 41:58Speaker 1: all night or get you a power nap in okay,
- 42:00Speaker 1: that's usually what I've done before. Get a pyer and
- 42:02Speaker 1: appy and get about one o'clock in the morning. And yeah,
- 42:07Speaker 1: as far as locally goes. On Thursday, December twenty sixth,

- 42:14Speaker 1: the Mountain States Sportatorium in Beckley, West Virginia. Belltime is

- 42:22Speaker 1: it's eight dollars for kids twelve and under. APW's weekly

- 42:48Speaker 1: And that's it for this final weekend of shows for
- 42:52Speaker 1: twenty twenty four. But before we close this segment, we
- 42:55Speaker 1: would like to take a brief moment to pay our
- 42:58Speaker 1: respects to Big Time Wrestle, which was based out of Huntington,
- 43:01Speaker 1: West Virginia. As the promoter, Freddy Cornell, decided it was
- 43:05Speaker 1: time to hang up the boots.
- 43:07Speaker 3: We hear it.
- 43:07Speaker 1: The grill ot unfortunately never got to make it to
- 43:10Speaker 1: Big Time wrest to a Big Time Wrestling event, But
- 43:12Speaker 1: thank you for all of the shows you had done
- 43:14Speaker 1: over the years and your contributions to professional wrestling in
- 43:18Speaker 1: West Virginia. That's gonna end this segment. Ladies and gentlemen,
- 43:22Speaker 1: we're gonna take a real quick break and when we
- 43:24Speaker 1: come back, how our final thoughts stay tuned. Once again,
- 43:34Speaker 1: Here's Hollywood Jeff Petty, Welcome back to ladies and gentlemen
- 43:38Speaker 1: to the grill lot. I'm your host, Hollywood. Jeff Petty
- 43:41Speaker 1: joined with Josh Cole Babe cancelations, cancelations. We'll get to
- 43:46Speaker 1: that here in a second. We're going to cover it.
- 43:49Speaker 1: We're gonna cover it. That's Jason like Likens in the
- 43:51Speaker 1: background talking yep, uh huh ye uh no, there you go,
- 44:00Speaker 1: There you go. And then we're also joined by director
- 44:03Speaker 1: and producer for Grapple Accha, Troy Rank And I hope
- 44:06Speaker 1: that seeing all this, Ye're like, I don't ever want
- 44:08Speaker 1: to come back.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Man, I'm still here, so yeah, I'm having a good time.
- 44:12Speaker 1: It's that we try to have that, try to have
- 44:14Speaker 1: a good time around here. AW Rampage is not the
- 44:17Speaker 1: only show being canceled, as ww's NXT Level Up also
- 44:21Speaker 1: had its final tapings this past week I know.
- 44:25Speaker 6: With its.
- 44:27Speaker 1: With its final episode to also air on Friday, December
- 44:30Speaker 1: twenty seventh. NXT Level Up featured newer NXT wrestlers developmental
- 44:35Speaker 1: developmental or those not featured as much on the main
- 44:38Speaker 1: main NXT show.
- 44:40Speaker 4: Wrestler who.
- 44:43Speaker 1: Yeah Yeah, Yeah yeah, and it had aired head to
- 44:47Speaker 1: head against Rampage on Fridays at ten pm Eastern it
- 44:50Speaker 1: did yeah, oh wow.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Again, but it was on streaming, so peacock here in
- 44:58Speaker 5: the network.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Yes, okay at ten pm won Peacock. Yeah, as what
- 45:02Speaker 1: Josh said in the US and the WW network internationally,
- 45:05Speaker 1: although w about to end, Yes, although WW is losing
- 45:08Speaker 1: that Friday night show, it will not lose that hour
- 45:12Speaker 1: of programming as beginning on January third, twenty twenty five,
- 45:16Speaker 1: SmackDown will expand to three hours. And yeah, if you
- 45:20Speaker 1: couldn't hear Jason in the background, he just learned about
- 45:23Speaker 1: NXT level Up.
- 45:24Speaker 5: The Level Up had replaced two five Live almost three.
- 45:28Speaker 2: Years ago, so wait, two five Live was still on.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Up until twenty twenty two.
- 45:33Speaker 2: Yeah, you blow on my brain.
- 45:39Speaker 1: I didn't see. I didn't know that there was.
- 45:42Speaker 5: Okay Live went from twenty sixteen to February of twenty
- 45:45Speaker 5: two and then it got replaced by level Up.
- 45:50Speaker 2: I learned something today.
- 45:52Speaker 1: This is yeah, this is this is news to me
- 45:54Speaker 1: because like we were talking off the air about it, like,
- 45:58Speaker 1: uh about how last time I remember, it was like
- 46:02Speaker 1: twenty nineteen, that was around well, it was twenty eighteen.
- 46:05Speaker 6: That was when all win happened.
- 46:06Speaker 1: Yeah, because that was when Okada had the match with
- 46:09Speaker 1: Marty and he kept saying, you're gonna end up on
- 46:11Speaker 1: two h five Live. Then he has the spot in
- 46:14Speaker 1: in all in where he's got him in the headlock
- 46:15Speaker 1: and he goes to five you know, poking fun Adam
- 46:19Speaker 1: and everything.
- 46:20Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 1: Yeah, see I didn't even know that. Yeah, and then
- 46:23Speaker 1: and then again, I don't know a whole lot. That's true,
- 46:25Speaker 1: it is, It is very true.
- 46:27Speaker 4: One thing I won't say is you're a lawar.
- 46:30Speaker 1: That's true. That's true. You ain't calling me a truth there, Well,
- 46:33Speaker 1: I guess you are.
- 46:34Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 46:34Speaker 1: Leave me, leave me, b I mean we have like
- 46:37Speaker 1: we have like seven minutes.
- 46:40Speaker 3: Well, let me ask you this, Troy, that is your name.
- 46:45Speaker 2: That is my government name.
- 46:46Speaker 3: Yeah, who's your favorite wrestler of all time?
- 46:53Speaker 2: That's a loaded question. I would say, as of a
- 46:57Speaker 2: few years ago, it was hul Cogan.
- 46:59Speaker 3: But I haven't listened to the show.
- 47:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I admittedly I've not listened to a lot of
- 47:06Speaker 2: the shows. I'm sorry, it's not it's not your faults.
- 47:09Speaker 3: No one will ever hear this perfect.
- 47:13Speaker 2: I think over the years, I mean I was thinking
- 47:17Speaker 2: about this. I was thinking on the way. I was like,
- 47:18Speaker 2: these guys are gonna ask me who my favorite wrestlers,
- 47:20Speaker 2: and I'm going to be like, well, I have so
- 47:22Speaker 2: many different thoughts because I love stone Cold, but stone
- 47:23Speaker 2: Call is not a perfect human being, Like all these
- 47:25Speaker 2: guys aren't perfect human being.
- 47:26Speaker 3: No, no, not asking about who's your ideal human Like,
- 47:29Speaker 3: let's go with the the the sports entertainer aspect of it,
- 47:33Speaker 3: So the actual technical wrestling asside, who is your favorite entertainer?
- 47:38Speaker 5: All right?
- 47:39Speaker 2: Now it's Kevin Owens.
- 47:40Speaker 3: Kevin Owens. Yeah, that's a great pick. Who do you
- 47:42Speaker 3: think the greatest of all time is?
- 47:46Speaker 2: Stone Cold?
- 47:48Speaker 3: You see? The sad thing that we came to the
- 47:50Speaker 3: conclusion of here is that it probably is Hogan of
- 47:54Speaker 3: everything that he's done for the business. And I don't
- 47:58Speaker 3: like Hogan. I don't like him.
- 48:01Speaker 2: I like his entering stuff, and that's about it. And
- 48:06Speaker 2: I mean, I think I think people have talked about like,
- 48:10Speaker 2: you know, Hogan couldn't wrestle. Hogan's not Hogan's not this.
- 48:13Speaker 2: But like if you've seen old tape of Hogan in Japan,
- 48:15Speaker 2: like you know, drop toe holds or whatever and just
- 48:19Speaker 2: work like he was a worker Yeah, he worked as
- 48:22Speaker 2: much as he needed to here, and so I think
- 48:24Speaker 2: that's what upsets work rate people.
- 48:27Speaker 1: You you actually echoed the exact thing that we've said
- 48:30Speaker 1: on this show, and I think it did come from you, Jason,
- 48:33Speaker 1: that he did what he needed to do here and
- 48:36Speaker 1: that was it.
- 48:37Speaker 3: Well, big part of that was the way that Vince
- 48:39Speaker 3: wanted him to be portrayed, because I mean, Vince, I
- 48:43Speaker 3: don't think it's any surprise loved big sweaty men. I
- 48:47Speaker 3: mean that's.
- 48:49Speaker 1: They called WW the Land of the Giants for a reason.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Yeah, and so you he wanted people to wrestle like giants,
- 48:56Speaker 3: these big characters, and so Hogan didn't need to be
- 49:00Speaker 3: doing drop too holds. He needed to be doing.
- 49:04Speaker 5: Drops leg drop that somehow took you out, hulking up.
- 49:08Speaker 2: And all that.
- 49:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:09Speaker 2: So I mean, yeah, I like, there's no denying his
- 49:12Speaker 2: his mark on the industry and in pop culture. And
- 49:16Speaker 2: so I mean his personal views aside, you know, that's
- 49:20Speaker 2: that's a whole different story we don't have. I don't
- 49:22Speaker 2: want to talk about that. That's that's not part of
- 49:24Speaker 2: that's not this show. So well let's let's get into
- 49:27Speaker 2: it now.
- 49:29Speaker 1: You yes, everything aside with the I'll just say the controversies,
- 49:36Speaker 1: the controversy around Hogan, you cannot take away the the
- 49:41Speaker 1: impact he has had on the world of professional wrestling.
- 49:44Speaker 1: I mean, who was It was Agent Christian who cited
- 49:47Speaker 1: Hulkemania as what got them involved in professional wrestling. And
- 49:51Speaker 1: that's just two people that that's doesn't encompass everybody that
- 49:56Speaker 1: it has influenced.
- 50:00Speaker 3: All right, So let me ask you this, Jeff. How
- 50:02Speaker 3: much time do we have?
- 50:05Speaker 1: Three to four minutes?
- 50:07Speaker 3: All right, So Troy, back to you hot seat. He's
- 50:14Speaker 3: your favorite technical wrestler of all time?
- 50:17Speaker 2: Oh, Brian Danielson, Yeah, that's an easy one.
- 50:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I can't really argue with that.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Yeah, that man can do it all. And that's that's.
- 50:25Speaker 3: Like accept wrestle and not get concussed.
- 50:28Speaker 2: Well you know that then if you're that technical, I
- 50:31Speaker 2: don't know, that's a weird that's a weird thing. I'm
- 50:32Speaker 2: like that he puts his body on the line much
- 50:35Speaker 2: like everybody else does in the ring, and so I
- 50:39Speaker 2: think you have, like I have a wanton disregard for
- 50:42Speaker 2: yourself and your body to like wrestle the way that
- 50:45Speaker 2: he does.
- 50:45Speaker 1: True, Yeah, because like, wasn't it correct? Me if I'm
- 50:49Speaker 1: wrong on this. When Brian Danielson went over to when
- 50:53Speaker 1: he left WWE and went to AW, Vince obviously was like,
- 50:58Speaker 1: I'm sure he wasn't entirely happy about it, but he
- 51:01Speaker 1: was like, I get it. Wasn't it that Brian was like, Vince,
- 51:04Speaker 1: I want to bleed?
- 51:06Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 51:07Speaker 5: Yeah, he went to wrestle Barrett one time.
- 51:10Speaker 2: You know, I'm earlier. I know someone in Beckley. There's
- 51:14Speaker 2: tape of it. We can.
- 51:18Speaker 1: Honestly actually speaking of that, and I'm you're the w
- 51:22Speaker 1: w F ww w F Championship.
- 51:25Speaker 4: Quick.
- 51:26Speaker 1: I was gonna say, do you want to throw that
- 51:27Speaker 1: in there in here, because like we didn'tet a chance to touch. Yeah.
- 51:31Speaker 5: So I had read something about, I don't know, two
- 51:33Speaker 5: months ago, basically the original w w Championship, which was
- 51:37Speaker 5: the w w w F at the time that United
- 51:39Speaker 5: States built. I had read that that was actually used
- 51:42Speaker 5: as a West Virginia championship, like before it came to
- 51:45Speaker 5: the w w w F. Do you know anything about that?
- 51:48Speaker 2: No, I didn't get too deep into the history of it.
- 51:51Speaker 2: I honestly, about as far back as I got was
- 51:54Speaker 2: Bobby Blaze and that was that was just honest that's
- 51:58Speaker 2: not that's that's because its funny. Just kept imaginating because
- 52:02Speaker 2: those guys, the guys that are like the older guys
- 52:04Speaker 2: now got trained by Bobby Blaze and and so they
- 52:09Speaker 2: they attribute everything to him. So I and like I said,
- 52:12Speaker 2: a couple guys know about like the papos running shows
- 52:15Speaker 2: in Madison, but other than that, like I did once again,
- 52:18Speaker 2: I just didn't have time.
- 52:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't think the audience can see how happy
- 52:23Speaker 3: I am to hear people praise the Blaze. Okay, one
- 52:31Speaker 3: last question for me, Troy, I don't know why I
- 52:36Speaker 3: need to keep looking at the name to see if that.
- 52:37Speaker 2: Is I might have changed it in that time.
- 52:41Speaker 3: No, most overrated wrestler of all time? And why is
- 52:46Speaker 3: it all? Who do you think is the most overrated?
- 52:53Speaker 2: Oh my god, I don't know. I have such a respect.
- 52:56Speaker 2: This is like, this is such a fencitting answer, but
- 52:59Speaker 2: like I have such a respect anybody, anybody that goes
- 53:01Speaker 2: and goes out there and does it.
- 53:04Speaker 1: I don't even really have.
- 53:07Speaker 3: Oh no, uh, listen, if you don't say a name,
- 53:11Speaker 3: everyone will lose respect for it. So no pressure.
- 53:15Speaker 2: I'm trying to think who I didn't sting, You don't
- 53:19Speaker 2: like sting. You're saying your point of me towards Stinging.
- 53:22Speaker 3: No, I love Harley Race, Dusty Rhodest.
- 53:26Speaker 1: Now you're just trying to start a fist fight Bill Goldberg.
- 53:29Speaker 2: It might be okay there, it is fair that one's
- 53:32Speaker 2: easy undertaker Goldberg. Goldberg is uh, you know, two moves
- 53:38Speaker 2: and that's it. But like, man was that that that
- 53:42Speaker 2: gimmick was over? But like is a wrestler, he's not good.
- 53:46Speaker 1: No, it goes back to like what Kevin Ash said
- 53:50Speaker 1: about it. When your whole thing, of your whole gimmick
- 53:54Speaker 1: is being undefeated and you lose a match, every it
- 54:00Speaker 1: of momentum you build up is gone instantly. And that's
- 54:03Speaker 1: exactly what happened with Bill Goldberg. That's true.
- 54:07Speaker 3: True.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Then he tour Quad.
- 54:10Speaker 2: I don't know, he got injured.
- 54:16Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, anyho. Yeah.
- 54:21Speaker 2: So I'm saying, like gimmicks gimmicks. I think any gimmick
- 54:23Speaker 2: can get over if somebody's committed enough to it. But
- 54:25Speaker 2: like it's for as to have stating power, I think
- 54:27Speaker 2: you still also have to show up in the ring
- 54:29Speaker 2: a little bit more than just spear and jack hammer.
- 54:33Speaker 2: So that yeah, it's Goldberg.
- 54:35Speaker 3: Well he also did a.
- 54:39Speaker 1: Yep, going Fast fantastic Buddy December thirtieth, Grapple Acha. It
- 54:48Speaker 1: will be on the wvpb app and it will also
- 54:53Speaker 1: be on your local Washington Public Broadcasting channel. I am
- 54:58Speaker 1: just I talk with my hands.
- 54:59Speaker 4: Leave me be.
