- 0:00This episode is sponsored by National Technology Management. Visit trustntm.com for more information. I'm Kelly Siegel, and this is Harder Than Life, a podcast about self-love, self-awareness, business, and health. We tell outrageous stories and boil everything down to simple, practical advice you can start using today. Let's get living.
- 0:21If you haven't heard of today's Harder Than Life podcast guest, you must be living life the hard way, which is in fact the name of his book that's a must read. Big Bad Brad Lee is the real deal sales closer who drops bombs and tells it like it is. He's a definition of a winner having found it and is the CEO of a multi-million dollar tech firm, Lightspeed, and often runs with heavy hitters such as Grant Cardone, Tony Robbins, or perhaps my boy Ryan Alford, or even Andy Elliott, creating agitation, which is also a great sales tactic.
- 0:50Today's podcast is going to be a masterclass on living life the right way, because in both of our cases, we've made many mistakes. They say a smart person learns from their mistakes, but a wise person learns from other people's mistakes. So grab your notepad and perhaps a cigar and learn, because I'm excited to share Brad Lee with you all today. Welcome, my friend. Thanks, man. Thanks for having me.
- 1:12Happy birthday again. You turned a lucky number 55. I can guarantee you this is going to be the best year of your life yet. And you kicked it off the right way in good old Mexico. Puerto Vallarta, man. Unbelievable resort. Your digs looked fantastic. Yes. Butler the whole nine yards. Dude, you got to do it right when you're going double nickels.
- 1:38I got to tell you, you look great. I think lucky us is men. We age better than women. I think I've just turned 48, but I hope I look down as good as you do at 55. So congratulations and happy birthday. And let's let's get you out there even more. I'm a big fan. I watch everything you do. And I like the way you say things because you say it true and authentically. And you don't
- 2:08I think I think you know most people that are secure like direct I think it cuts through all the nonsense and it gets to the point quicker so specifically I saw a reel and I'm sure it was cut a while ago when you say you you put a post up about if a guy cheats on his wife uh he will cheat in business and you don't like to partner up with him can you expound upon that a little bit
- 2:35Well, I mean, dude, if you're going to cheat on your wife, okay, what would you do to me if I was your business partner? So at the end of the day, if they'll cheat on their wife, man, they're going to cheat on anybody. And if they're going to cheat on anybody, I'd rather not do business with them.
- 2:50Personally, now again, can people make mistakes and recover? Yes. Does that make everybody an angel? No, I wasn't an angel. I've done some stupid shit. I've recovered. I've learned ethics over time. So again, it's not like, hey, if someone's ever made a mistake, I won't do business with them. But if somebody sits there and brags about and actively cheats on their wife, all I said was, well, then they clearly would cheat on you. How long have you been married?
- 3:19including today. I'd have to call my wife and ask. I don't know. Um, 11 years, 12 years. Well, I think you're more of a comedian than a sales guy. You're you're there. I freaking adore you already. Um, we're similar to the way we brought up. And do you think that you could have learned things the easy way or is the hard way what sinks into our thick heads?
- 3:46Well, I wish I would have learned the easy way. I wish I was smart as I am today. Then I, I didn't, to answer your question, I don't think I could have because I wasn't as smart. I wasn't as educated. I wasn't as enlightened. You know, now I realize, man, I learned the hard way for no reason at all. You don't have to learn the hard way.
- 4:07That's why I wrote the book The Hard Way. It's actually lessons I learned the hard way so you don't have to. So I wish I could go back and learn the easy way, but no, I'm like you, dude. I had to go out and figure it out for myself. Not only because I got kicked out at an early age and didn't have a lot of guidance, but I wouldn't have listened to you anyway. Man, I thought I knew everything.
- 4:31I so understand what you're saying. I'm laughing because I thought I knew everything right up until I knew I didn't. Again, look how similar our books are. Mine is harder than life and yours is the hard way. So all I do is tell people, hey, you're gonna make mistakes and you just gotta go through and be harder than life because it's gonna throw you a lot of curves. And that's really what you talk about. And it is eerily familiar.
- 4:58how our lives have paralleled each other from, from rough upbringings to selling candy door to door all the way through to getting, you know,
- 5:10used and abused by a business partner that you basically just floated for everything and then writing big checks to get out of it. But you know what winners do? They win, baby. And that's what you do. So I was going to tease you a little bit because I saw your clip with John Sarasani, who's happened to be a pretty good friend of mine. We've become close and he was making funny about
- 5:33He says, you guys are very, very similar. I'm going to give you props and just say, man, keep doing what you're doing. I hope to be half as successful as you are. But what was your main point of the book? What do you want people to take away from if they go out and mortar this book and read it cover to cover like I did?
- 5:51Well, you know, the cool part about that book is people are going to learn what's in it one way or the other. The question is, is how much is it going to cost them? So you're going to learn what's in that book one way or the other, brother. I would I would recommend, you know, picking up the book. It's not for the money. And you got a book, so, you know, we're not getting rich off the book.
- 6:11Ultimately, I wrote that book so people could avoid problems and situations. I mean, there's a lot of youngsters out there that ask me questions. I don't know why, but a lot of youngsters follow me because of the way I talk, and they think that they can trust me because of my authenticity. Like, I don't sugarcoat shit. I'm not Willy Wonka, as they say.
- 6:31And so they trust what I'm saying. And I wrote that mainly to show people that there's easier ways to learn than going through the challenges yourself. One of the things I always talk about, again, number one, be authentic. There's so many people out there worried about everyone else's opinion that they're so afraid to be themselves in fear of other people's judgment that they go through life half of who they could be.
- 6:59You know, I don't agree with that. So the book talks about the lessons I learned the hard ways. Because I have, you know, 55 years to look back and reflect. What would I change? What would I do differently? Well, one of the things I'd do differently is, number one, I'd read books. Number two, I'd invest money more wisely. And number three, I wouldn't give a rat's ass what people's opinion of me was.
- 7:24I wouldn't give a rat's ass about what people's opinions are. I have to second that my friend. And I got to tell you, it took me to 43. When did the light go on for you? When you started figuring out that the less, less you thought you knew the last you actually did know, and you didn't give a shit. You know, I think I was right around 30 to 35 and I,
- 7:46I would act like I didn't care what anyone thought prior to that, but I actually did care. And you could see it. And I would be, you know, offended and hurt. And, you know, I kept it quiet. I didn't cry and bitch and moan and complain. But trust me, you know, if someone didn't like me, it bothered me. You know, I couldn't figure out why. And then I would do things just to show off and look cool. And, you know, it was like...
- 8:10It was ridiculous. So I spent a lot of money trying to impress people. If I had all the money that I spent trying to impress people back, it would be impressive. It'd be a big chunk of money. I'll tell you. But no one remembers all that money I spent. No one gives a rat's ass either. And like you mentioned John Sarasani, you know.
- 8:32First of all, he came in here and basically said, if you ever want to see what I'm going to post or something, to basically insinuate that I look at his page and then post based off his page, which is hilarious. I never watched his page until he came up and begged to be on my podcast. But I like John. It's funny. I do follow him now, and it is funny how he...
- 8:57rips people hey buddy you know you look like a dick he is uh i've grown very fond of him and uh he just loves to agitate and uh he's coming tomorrow is he he wants me on his podcast i said hey come in and use my studio we'll throw up your logo he's coming to town for obviously the super bowl he likes to gamble he's here often i'm like swing on in buddy yeah i like john but dude i'm telling you man on my kid's life
- 9:26When he said, you know, Brad, if you want to see what I'm going to post, I don't know how he said it. I think you might have remembered. He basically insinuated that I post everything he does.
- 9:40And then he showed the clips, which I think was your team. It was brilliant. You know what? There's only so much of these, let's call them thought leaders. I don't like calling people influencers. We're thought leaders. There's only so much that we can do. Now, I think people like you, me, and John, who have been through wars, and I'm sorry, I don't mean to put myself in your guys' category, but I've been through a lot of crap in my life. You know, I've been harder than life had to be.
- 10:08So when you've experienced that and you learn, there's no experience like going through life, learning it the hard way, and then spinning it around and teaching people. Once you can teach people how you did it, then you know it real well. But I specifically love one portion of this book, and it's the dedication. And it is freaking so you. It says, I dedicate this book to the only two people that matter, me for writing it and you for reading it.
- 10:36It sounds a bit arrogant, which I know you hear quite often, but having done the work on myself as much of which you discuss in this book regarding self-love and mindset, it's just who you are. What do you have to say to the people that aren't drinking your Kool-Aid, bro? That aren't? That aren't.
- 10:54I'm not aware of those people. I don't want to say anything to them. You know, at the end of the day, that dedication, I'm sitting there trying to figure out how to write a dedication. First of all, you know, I didn't even I wasn't even going to write one. And then my friend, Mandy, who handles my social media account.
- 11:12was saying, you know, no, dude, you need a dedication. And then my wife said, I need a dedication. Everyone said that I needed a dedication. So I'm like, listen, you always read those dedications. I dedicate it to my wife and my kids and all the people that felt that I was deserving. And I'm like, oh my God. So I'm not going to do one of those. So I wasn't going to write one. And then finally I said, okay, I'll do one. I dedicate this book to the only two people. When it comes to this book, there's only two people that matter. Me for writing it.
- 11:42and you for reading it. If you didn't read it, fuck you. Like, you know, hey, if you didn't read it, this ain't about you, bitch. Like, why would I dedicate it to anyone who didn't read it? Why would I dedicate it to anyone who didn't write it? What am I dedicating it for? I'm dedicating it to me. I'm dedicating it for me. And then I appreciate the readers, so I'm gonna dedicate it to the only two people that matter. When it comes to this book,
- 12:05me for writing it and you for reading it. Like that makes sense to me. It's so simple. It's stupid, Brad. And that's the way you live your life. I just, I admire it. I got to tell you, every part of this book resonates with me, especially chapter five on gauging yourself. I often say fail to plan, plan to fail. And if you don't have a destination in mind, you'll end up nowhere. Talk about your five Ms, the mindset, map, motions, measurements, and money.
- 12:32Well, dude, a lot of people find themselves in situations they can't seem to get out of. And so I kind of did the same thing growing up. So I've developed this little thing I call the M gauges or, you know, they're life gauges. It's like when you're driving a car, you know, you got your gauges. So when you're going through life and you run into a challenge and you can't figure out how to get out of it, this is just the way I would get out of it. First thing I would do is look at my gauges, right? So the first gauge is the mindset because, dude, a lot of times people, the issues here.
- 13:00whether it's, you know, allodoxophobia, which is the fear of other people's opinion, or it's a lack of self-worth, you know, or limiting beliefs or scarcity, you know, the mindset's usually the problem. So I say, look there, you know, do you believe it's possibility? You know, is it, are you hopeful and optimistic about whatever it is you're stuck in? You know, if the answer is no, we'll fix the mindset first. If the mindset's not the problem, because, you know, it's possible to have a positive mindset and end up nowhere.
- 13:30They're like, what do you mean? You've never seen those people all happy as shit, but heading in the wrong direction. You know, their their mindsets good, but their skill sets suck. So you need mindset, you need skill set and you need habits. Those three areas are key. But the M gauges are to kind of run through problems. So mindset, if it's not your mindset, then you look at your next one, which would be your motions, your actions. What are you doing? What are you doing every day?
- 13:55You know, then you look at it and by the way, it could be what you're measuring. You know, is it your map? Do you know where you're going? So again, there's, uh, I forgot what order I put them in. I go, um, mindset. Cause that's most important. That's usually what it is. It's either your mindset or it's your motions or it's your map or it's your measurements. And then the money one, a lot of people think, well, that's if you don't have any money, you look at that gauge. No, that's not true.
- 14:22You know, you look at the money gauge to see where your money's going. Because, dude, for a long time, I made a shitload of money and I didn't have any money. Like, I was spending it, not investing it. I was broke at another level. Bottom line, I was broke at another level. And, dude, a lot of people will go 10 years making killer money and they end up broke. And they're like, oh, where did I go wrong? Right.
- 14:47You weren't looking at that money gauge, brother. You were spending money rather than investing money. I did it for a long time. So you look at your mindset. If your mindset's not clear, then you look at your map. You look at, it's either your motions or your map. Motions or your actions, your habits. What are you doing every day? That could be the problem. You're not doing shit, okay? So you look at that gauge. If it's that you're doing a bunch of shit every day, well, do you know where you're going?
- 15:12do you know clearly where you're going because if you know where you're going every day all you have to do is say does this move me towards or away
- 15:19And if you just ask that question, you know, I'm about to eat a cheeseburger. Does that move me towards my goal or away from my goal? And did when you ask that question, it's so easy to see what you're doing wrong. It's so easy to see where you're going to end up. If you just open your eyes and quit bullshitting yourself, like, does this move me towards or away? First of all, you got to know where you're going or where you want to be, because now you know if it moves you towards or away from that.
- 15:44You know, people say, well, Brad, I've seen you go out and get drunk before. Right. Did that move me towards or away? Well, temporarily, that moved me towards what I was looking to do. I was looking to get drunk. So so you can you can apply it negatively or positively.
- 15:59That's why it's important to figure out exactly where you want to go. And then every day just kind of run that gauge over, which is this movie towards or away, but that's your map and that's your motions, your actions and your, and your visual, you know, where are you going? You have to figure out what that looks like. A lot of people don't Kelly. Next time you talk to somebody, just ask them and then watch their eyes and watch, watch what they do. You'll say, Hey, let me ask you a question. What does success look like to you? And then they're going to go, um,
- 16:30They're going to start thinking. Watch their eyes. They're going to look up and think. Why? Because a lot of people don't think about it enough. So the map is where are you going? What do you want it to be like? How does it feel to be there? Actually be there mentally, visually. And then there's the measurements because what doesn't get measured doesn't get managed. So a lot of times people aren't measuring the right shit.
- 16:55And they'll be running off in the wrong direction or they'll be, you know, doing lagging indicators rather than leading indicators. You know the difference between a lagging and a leading indicator? I do, but please enlighten the audience. Yeah, so like a lagging indicator for weight loss would be stepping on a scale. You know, by the time you step on the scale, it's already too late. A leading indicator would be how many miles did you walk today? What did you eat today?
- 17:21So every day, the leading indicator would be, what did you eat? What did you do? You'll know by the end of the week if you're going to lose weight or not. You don't have to wait. That's the lagging indicator. The daily actions are the leading indicators. So too many people are looking at the lagging indicators when they need to be looking at the leading indicators. And that's the measurement. Like, what are you measuring?
- 17:40And then last, you look at your money because if you get those four areas right, right, your mindset right, your map right, your motions right, your measurements right, you're going to make some money. That's a fact. Well, now you better watch out because I've done those four perfectly. And guess what? I pissed away money like it was going out of style.
- 18:00It's easy to do. I've been there and done that, too. When I used to freaking party like a rock star, man, like the way Sarasani lives, it's easy to spend a lot of money, especially in Vegas. So I don't – you know what? You said a question I want to ask you, put it right on the spot because I'm sure you get asked all the time. What does success – define success for me, Brad, in your eyes? My ability –
- 18:22to go where I want with whom I want for as long as I want and to help with a but with with an without fear of of scarcity like dude listen if I can go where I want when I want with whom I want for as long as I want and be able to give abundantly
- 18:43brother, whatever that looks like, that's success to me. You're successful. There's so much depth to you. Obviously health, wealth, happiness, love, things like that. If someone were to say, Brad, rate everything, what's most important?
- 18:59Again, most important to me is my health. Why? Because without that, dude, you're screwed. Without that, you can't be good to anybody, your kids or anything. So some people put their family above their health, which I think is a mistake.
- 19:13You should put your health first. Now again, well, Brad, I see you smoking cigars. Guys, I don't inhale a cigar and I'm not the one smoking. The cigar does the smoking. OK, I just puff on it. So at the end of the day, if that's unhealthy, well, you know, tell my grandpa who smoked cigars till he was 98. But at the end of the day, there's a lot of people that smoke and don't get cancer. There's a lot of people that smoke and do get cancer. So it's like I don't believe the cigar is what gives you cancer personally.
- 19:42But that's an ignorant statement because they say science says that it does. Okay, well, then how do you explain all the people that didn't get it? I'm going to sit down and talk to you all day, every day. What kind of cigars do you smoke? And how often do you smoke? Usually Cuban and as many as I can. But I'm going to start only smoking them for celebratory reasons because it makes you stink. That's one thing I don't like.
- 20:06But anyway, so what was the previous question? Because I, oh yeah. So if they wanted me to rate them, I would say, number one, your health. Number two, your relationships. Now the relationships are most important because man, when you're on your deathbed, Kelly, I guarantee you, dude, you're going to be missing people. You're going to be worried about people. You're not going to be worried about your business. You're not going to be worried about your cars. You're not going to be worried about your money. You're going to be worried about people. So people should be the most important thing after your health. And then...
- 20:36money or business. So some people, they put their business and they put their family above their health. They go a long time, but they're destroying their health. They're miserable. Okay. And they end up losing it all because of their health. So put your health first, then relationship second. If you had to get rid of your kids and your family and your loved ones or your business, which one would go?
- 21:01Well, obviously, in most cases, it would be the business. If they had to go, that's the least important. Right, so make sure you understand that. Don't wait until you're on your deathbed. And then regret putting them last. Right? And then your business. Then your money. Now, some people might say, what about God, Brad? Listen, guys, to me, that's a relationship. And they're going to say, so you're telling me that you put your health over God now?
- 21:28Well, if I truly want to put God first, then I would focus 100% on my health. Our body is a temple. Read the Bible. It says to take care of your body. It says to be as healthy as you could possibly be. Treat it like he lives there. So at the end of the day, man, you can't use the God thing on me. You know, health, relationships, money, or business. That's the order of importance that I found.
- 21:53So I get the feeling you believe in God. What is your relationship to God? You know, again, I mean, the scripture tells us to seek and we shall find. So I've been seeking, you know, and I'm still seeking. I don't know. You know, I know that the Bible, the quote unquote Bible, has many, many versions. Some have omissions.
- 22:18Some have different translations, meaning literally the same chapter means something in three different Bibles. I don't know why there's all these versions of the Bible. The King James Version, which is a widely used Bible. Why does he have his own version would be my question. Well, because he was a king. Well, what's that mean? Well, that means he had it.
- 22:42changed to the way he wanted it. Now, someone could say, no, that's not true. Yes, it is true. If you start looking back and back and back and back and back and back to the actual scripture, which are in Aramaic, right? Hebrew, Sanskrit, I'm talking about old, the shit that was actually written. You find out, first of all, his name wasn't Jesus. His name's not Jesus. Everyone calls him Jesus. That's not his name. That's not his name. That's not his name. People say, yes, it is. You're so ignorant. It's a translation. It's not a translation.
- 23:12Well, it's a transliteration. People that are a little bit more intelligent say, well, it's a transliteration, because it isn't a translation. Then the slightly more intelligent people say, well, that's a transliteration, Brad. It means, you know, I know what it means. Okay, I did the research. It came from Aisus. That's where Jesus came from, supposedly. But where did Aisus come from? Well, Aisus is a transliteration from the word Yahshua. Well, Yahshua was his name, and his actual formal name is Yahushua. But at the end of the day,
- 23:41Somebody changed his name at some point in the game. And now we're all calling him by a name that isn't even his. So like, for example, if your name's Kelly, and then all you care about is, hey, tell him I sent you, you know, tell him Kelly sent you. And then somewhere along the way, I decided, you know what we're going to call him? We're going to call him Buck. And you know why we're going to call you Buck? Because the people I'm trying to describe you to, they don't have a K in their language.
- 24:11So I can't say Kelly in their language because they don't have a K. And by the way, a name is an actual sound. So I'm trying to get them to say your name, Kelly, but there is no K in that language and there is no Y. So guess what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna transliterate your name and I'm gonna say it's Buck. And then thousands of years later, people are calling you Bucky.
- 24:36When your name was Dan Kelly. And guess what? Everybody doesn't even know your name, but they claim to know you. How many people truly know you if they don't even know your name? So at the end of the day, I know that there's a creator. I am just trying to find the facts because I think a lot of the religion of today is a bunch of bullshit. It's a bunch of man-made bullshit. Yeah.
- 25:01You know, there's a lot of rules that are in the Bible. And by the way, the Bible was written by man. So go back a little further than the Bible and you get to the scriptures. Okay, now we're getting closer to the original source. Then you get to the original source. He gave us his name over 7,000 times. I'm talking about God because people say, well, Jesus is God. Jesus isn't God. Okay. Well, no, it's him in the flesh. No, it is not.
- 25:31then how did he look up on the cross when he was about to get crucified? And he said, Father, why have thou forsaken me? That's what the Bible says, he said, right? Okay, well, if the Bible says he said, Father, why have thou forsaken me? He's looking up and he's saying, why have you forsaken me? Who's he talking to?
- 25:58Who's he talking to? Who's he asking that? God the Father. So God the Son and God the Father are two of the same things you're trying to tell me, but yet he had to ask himself what was going on? Why would you need to ask yourself what's going on?
- 26:12What are you, schizophrenia? What are you, a freaking schizo or something? No, it's because they're two separate beings. They're two separate entities. I'm not saying that one's not appointed. I'm not saying one's not anointed. I'm saying Jesus, Yahshua, that's his name. Yahshua or Yahushua is actually his name, which means God is salvation, by the way. And God's name is Yahuwah. So Yahshua and Yahuwah.
- 26:42are two separate people, period. And everybody wants to argue that, and everybody thinks I'm talking crap because I'm so ignorant in the Word, when in reality, they're ignorant in the Word. I've talked to pastors that say, oh my God, Brad, how do you know these things? Very few people know this. Well, because you do some studying and you seek. And Kelly, when I look at the Scripture and it says, seek and ye shall find...
- 27:09I look at these people that they're not seeking. They're just saying okay to whatever the pastor told them. They're just doing what they're being told to do. Nobody's seeking. Listening and doing what you're told is not seeking, folks. Ask some questions. What are you afraid of? Oh, you're going to go to hell? Oh, my God, I'm going to go to hell. I better just say okay. Shut up, you puss. You're not going to hell, number one. Number two, it says to seek. Okay.
- 27:35and ye shall find have you looked have go go investigate what i'm saying and you'll start to realize that it's true unless of course you start listening and you're not seeking because i've had people say well brad and very intelligent people well brad the reason his name is now jesus is because it's a transliteration and here's what happened and it's okay and it's perfectly fine and that's why now you know we call him jesus no
- 28:00It would be the equivalent of a Chinese guy coming over to America and an employer not knowing how to say. So they say, we're going to call you Bob. And now you see a Chinese guy with his name tag that says Bob. That ain't his damn name. That's just what we're calling him. Why? Because we can't pronounce his name. So we changed his name. Well, my question would be, who has the authority to change his name?
- 28:23Who has the authority to change the son of God's name? Now, some in the Jewish religion, they say he wasn't the son of God. Muslims say he was a prophet, but he wasn't the son of God. Okay, so the question is, did he exist or not exist? Everybody knows he existed. The question is, was he the son of God? Well, again, if he's the son of God, well, then he can't be God, can he? Nor, by the way, you didn't expect this long of an answer, did you?
- 28:48Nor, by the way, if anyone looks, that you'll find that. If you're listening and you're hearing what you're being told, you might find that. But anyway, I don't like to talk religion or politics because everybody gets pissed. But I know that his name is Joshua and Biden's an old senile man.
- 29:10would tell you that after reading your book and watching you and being a fan from a far away i i you have a relationship with god that's what the question was what's your relationship with god you have a relationship with god you believe in a higher power all the rest of that was just bonus material from a brilliant man and i'm telling you i've read all i've read the bible i've read every edition and what you said was actually spot on so good one more thing i want to add
- 29:41For anybody that's an atheist, if you don't believe there is a God, well then what did we all come from? What did everything come from? Because the answer would be nothing. If there's no God, well then we came from nothing. How does something come from nothing? Ponder that question for a while and you'll start to realize you can't get something from nothing.
- 30:07It's physically impossible. If there's nothing, once upon a time there was nothing. And then all of a sudden, boom, there's something. Okay, what made something? Something had to make something. You can't create something from nothing, idiot. Well, ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to let you know this was him not talking about religion.
- 30:30I don't like to talk about religion. Before I asked you about the God comment, and I do really appreciate that because it just shows the depth and that you have absolutely done research and read and are well spoken. So kudos to you, my friend. And 55, I've met a lot of 55 year olds that don't know shit. So you know a lot. I want to go back to the book a little bit because there's two takeaways that I took that everybody has to fricking see here. And it was...
- 30:56value relationships over money, and do more of what makes you money because it's that freaking simple. Why do so many people get it wrong, Red?
- 31:07You know, I think in school we're taught wrong. You know, our parents don't know much. There's all kinds of reasons why, you know, like I say to people, if you want to raise your net worth, raise your self-worth. A lot of people don't have a good relationship with themselves. So to me, if you think about just, again, take away all the crap we've learned and listen to Common Sense.
- 31:29Where does all my money come from? If I really think where does all my money come from and where has all my money come from, I can always tie it back to a relationship of some kind. So if we shake more hands and create more relationships, we're going to have more money. That's just common sense. Why? Money comes from relationships. So if you want more money, get more relationships. It just makes sense to me. And it's like, Hmm,
- 31:59money comes from relationships and I want more money. Let me go get more relationships. The more hands you shake, the more money you make. And then if you want more, do more. Again, people are like, well, duh. I know, but why don't people do more then? So if people are like, what do you mean, Brad? I say, listen, like for example, how do you make the money you make currently? They're going to say, I do this, this, this, this, this. If you start to measure what it is you're doing and you do more of it,
- 32:23I guarantee you'll get more than you're getting currently. And then people are like, well, what happens when I run out of space, run out of time? Try it first, fool. Okay? Max out first, will you? Like, quit worrying about what's going to happen when you run out of time because you ain't out of time, bitch. Like, go do that first because then there's an answer. You know what it is? First, you do more. Do as much as you can until eventually you're out of time. And then you get better.
- 32:49You practice, drill, and rehearse, and you get better at what you're doing so you don't have to do it as long. And then after that, you scale. You leverage people and technology. And that's how you grow a business. You do more. You get better. You scale.
- 33:02Guys, that's a microphone job right there, bro. That is absolutely. I read about the same thing in my book and I swear I called it harder than life. The next book's going to call easier than life because if you do the things that I talk about and then you talk about life gets really easy. So you can say the easy way next, but you went there with this. You want more net worth work on your self-worth and you're,
- 33:27In here, your book, you talk about over and over, making mistakes, pivoting, learning, moving forward. But mostly what stands out to me is that you have unshakable confidence in yourself and you bring it all together in chapter 13 on choosing to be successful. Break this down to the list. They're specifically touching on the things you've talked about, fearing other people's opinions, which obviously you haven't done in a very long time.
- 33:57Well, I mean, at the end of the day, everything boils down to a choice. You know, you choose things in life and believe it or not, wherever you are in life, you chose to be there. And people can say that's not true, but it is true. Okay. And I'm not talking about the exception. I'm talking about generally, normally, everyday people. You know, we choose the things in our life by the choices that we make. So if you want to be successful, you have to, number one, choose to be successful and start doing those things.
- 34:28Does that make sense? Yep. I completely understand. I just want everybody here for those that haven't read the book and those that haven't need to get out and go get it. So I like how you're bringing up the book. I don't think anyone's really broke down the book as much as you have on a podcast. I like it. It's so good, bro. I mean.
- 34:48Listen to my audio. You'll see that it's it's eerily similar. I broke down how to how to start an IT company from start to finish. You think anybody would frickin copy it? We give it to every give the blueprint. Nobody does it. Hey, it's in there. And then the habits, the mindset habits to do on a daily basis. It's all in there.
- 35:09Give it away. Your next book is going to be called Easier Than Life. Yeah. My next book is going to be called Zero to Light Speed. It's basically the story of how I built this, but I need to build it to a higher level before I talk about it. So Zero to Light Speed. And then my final book is going to be called Inches to Spare.
- 35:32There's so much depth to you. I'm going to finish up one thing about the book of the word switch to you because I find you fascinating. So an honorable mention is chapter 11, where you get used to where you're talking about writing and you slip in the part about avoiding lawsuits at all costs. I can understand the importance of this huge. The only concern is oftentimes they're unavoidable. But as Brad says, only the lawyers win in lawsuits.
- 36:00Why get everything in writing, Brad, and why avoid lawsuits? Well, you know, you get everything in writing because I think when time goes by, people forget what was agreed to. And when you get it in writing, you can always reference back and see exactly what we all discussed before the money shows up. The money changes people.
- 36:20And I had obviously partners that I basically just gave equity to and, you know, we all agreed what we are all going to do and then eight years later when the money showed up, you know, everyone was confused as to what we agreed to. So I don't care if it's your mom you need to get it in writing just so you have a documented, you know, account of what we all agreed to.
- 36:42Um, that's just smart. And I don't care if it's your mom, it's your brother, it's your cousin, it's your two best friends. Like get it in writing, man. Don't be a dumb, don't be a dumbass. And then relationships over money, you know, which is a, which is a chapter. Do you know what chapter that is? Uh, I thought it was 11 relationships over money. A lot of people say, who are you talking about in that chapter? Well, I'll have you read the book, but I'm talking about old Grant Cardone in that chapter. Um,
- 37:08And what's funny is when I was writing the chapter, I was kind of leaving his name out because it was basically slamming him for choosing money over relationships and how it's a bad thing to do. And then by the end of the chapter, I realized as I was writing it that I did the same thing.
- 37:27And it was a mistake. And if I could go back, I would change it. And I couldn't, and I can't now. So I added to the book where I was gonna use him as the bad guy and say, look what he did. And look, you know, look, you don't wanna do that. And then when I realized, as I was writing the chapter, dude, I was doing the same thing. Like I'm guilty of it too.
- 37:49Unbelievable. That right there is the best lesson, I think, in that book, dude. Relationships over money. Because if you focus on the money and the relationship ends or suffers, dude, the money dwindles and goes away because the money comes from the relationship. So if you focus on the relationship, the money will always be preserved.
- 38:08The only caveat I would add to that in my 48 years, and I've been, I wrote big checks to partners to get rid of them. Same exact, it's eerily similar how our lives have been parallel. You're ahead of me, of course. But the only thing I would add is sometimes you don't really want that relationship and money makes that very evident. So yes, value relationships over money, but the right relationships, not all relationships,
- 38:38And I hate when people do that because it's always 80-20 pretty much. It's, you know, I can tell you right now for my business partner, and I'm going to probably ask you the same thing, is I don't want to be friends with him. And I'm sorry, he's probably going to listen to this. I don't, the guy, I had a business partner that I wrote a big check to that, you know, we went into it. Thank God we had everything in writing. We went into everything in writing. And then when the shit hit the fan, we just went right back to the articles of a corporation
- 39:08a separation clause and we followed it to a T. That's why you get it in writing, by the way. Yep. I'm telling you, your book could have been mine. At the end of the day, I was still the jerk because we followed it to a T because he didn't win. At the end of the day, once we separated, we went our separate ways. Our kids were friends. I wanted our kids to remain friends. They couldn't stay friends. So at the end of the day, God did me a favor and said, hey,
- 39:36bro, this person ain't for you. So I could have valued that relationship over money and still been supporting them, which is very similar to what you did. Are you still friends with your two partners that you started?
- 39:51Not those two. No. See, but, but, but we're not, again, you can end relationships. Yeah. All I'm saying is if you're going to value the money over the relationship, you're going to end up shitty. Uh,
- 40:09You would value the relationship over the money. What you did is you decided to end the relationship. What you're saying is you're adding to what I'm saying, which is good for clarity. But we're saying the same thing. If you're going to value something, value the relationship over the money. Now, what you're saying is I don't value the relationship. And guess what? The money ended too, didn't it?
- 40:32oh no, I made a lot more money. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That's what you did. The relationship. Oh yeah. No more money to be created, didn't it? Yeah, yeah. And the fact that, you know,
- 40:43I would tell you probably the same thing that you did is that you're not only did you lose money and then the fighting happened and then you kind of take a step back and then they start throwing darts at each other. And you, it just, it's just, there's no fricking win when people aren't rolling in the same direction. So my only ad I would put to either one of our books that I've learned the hard way, no pun intended.
- 41:06is to really vet people that you get into business with. Make sure that your values align because, and here's the bitch about it, is if you don't get it right, your values change, people change, life changes. Like when I went into business with my partner, we were both single guys. We wrote in clauses because we were for sure that I was gonna meet some crazy chick and screw it all up.
- 41:32but it was him. I'm not saying she's crazy, but there was definitely a problem there. So it was, it's eerily similar how we got it. I always look at people and that's why I started the question off with bro. If you cheat on your wife, I'm the same way. If you cheat and you were open about it, it's, it's goes right up there. And I hate to get in this. If somebody tells you they're a good Christian, like,
- 41:57Why do you have to tell me who you are? I'm going to watch. You're going to show me who you are. I don't need you to tell me you're an honest person. I'm going to watch you and you're going to show it. People tell on themselves. You just have to watch. I'm not telling you anything you don't know because you've been there. Sales is the best thing in the world, man. I didn't tell you. I went door to door selling freaking candies. I've sold chocolate candies to diabetics before.
- 42:23I loved your seven-year-old story where you figured out how to tell them even more and more and more. That's what I did, man. You always figure out an angle how to do it bigger. But let's switch a little bit gears because we're coming up against it. I really appreciate you staying with me with the technical difficulties. I want to learn more about you. I want my listeners to know more about you. So, Brad, what makes you get out of bed in the morning?
- 42:48Just the fact that I'm not where I wanna be. You know, it's like if someone's getting up in the middle of the night to head to the bathroom, take a leak, why don't they just stop in the hallway and take a piss? What keeps them going? You know, what keeps you going all the way to the toilet? Well, you know, you have a plan to get somewhere is the point I'm making. So what gets me up in the morning is an incompletion, a feeling of, you know, a sense of,
- 43:17obligation to continue. I've got goals to hit and I'm self-motivated in that way. And that's what gets me out of bed in the morning.
- 43:25You know, a lot of people say, oh, it's my children, the love of my children and all this mushy stuff, which, again, I'm sure that all factors in. But when I ask myself, because when you ask me a question, I ask myself a question. What does get me up out of bed? You know, I'm not where I need to be. I got to go. So what gets me up, what motivates me is the fact that I've got a destination to hit. And that destination is a long ways away, believe it or not.
- 43:51I got a sneaky suspicion too that we're very similar. Once you get there, you'll move the goalposts. No, in reality, if I got there today, I would be finished. Okay. Tell us what it is. I would be done. As long as the net worth begins with a billion.
- 44:13That's cool. That's cool. You'll get there, bro. You, you, you do things the right way. You associate with the right people doing the right things day in and day out. What's your biggest. Or die trying.
- 44:24Well, we're all going to die, but who knows when that's going to be. You look freaking great, so I don't think that's happening anytime soon. Keep smoking those cigars. Each day, the victory cigars. I call them my victory cigars. This is funny. I smoke one a day, less lately, but one a day, and it's my fucking victory cigar. I celebrate my win of the day every single day with a nice cigar. So what's your biggest fear? Go ahead.
- 44:55And he was smoking a cigar and Johnny Carson said, George, what are you doing, man? Didn't your doctor tell you not to do that? And he said, yes, he did. And he goes, you don't listen to him? And George says, my doctor's dead. Like, brother, just do what makes you happy because you're going to die anyway.
- 45:16Yeah, man, I... You're going to die, bro. You want to die miserable. You want to die happy. I want to die happy. And if that means I puffed a cigar when I shouldn't have, whatever. And if I smoked a cigar and died from the cigar, which again, very rare to trace it right to a particular thing like that, but let's pretend they could. You got it from this.
- 45:38Well, then how long would I have lived had I not done that? And maybe I'd have blown my brains out. Maybe I would have been depressed the whole time and jumped off a bridge. You never know, man. Live, enjoy, love, be kind, be generous. That's my freaking advice.
- 45:53Yeah, I don't drink or do drugs. And the only things that people like to, you know, there's, there's crabs in a bucket, man. Everyone wants to hate on us when you're winning, when you're on the top, they're trying to knock you down, as you know, so I get hated on for, of course, you know, can't you just tell all I do is steroids. And then the second thing is my is my frickin cigars. So hey, steroids and cigars, baby, that's, that's, that's, maybe that's what I should name my next book. What's your biggest fear, my brother?
- 46:21You know, I've always asked myself that question and I always come up with a stupid answer like, you know, plane crashes.
- 46:31Nothing that you would go, well, that's deep. I don't really fear much. I use fear to fuel me. So again, I mean, I fear what normal people fear. Plane crashes, getting my ass beat by four dudes in an alley. Like, dude, that sounds scary as shit. Having my kids kidnapped or...
- 46:57jacked you know anything like oh my god you know getting cancer you know of any kind getting a terminal disease and you know it's crazy if you think about this too dude because right now we are both completely aware we're gonna die right yep and you know you're gonna die right so you walk into a doctor and that doctor says well kelly
- 47:27You're going to die in a couple of years. People freak out and it's like, you knew you were going to die. Why are you freaking out? You knew you were going to die. Well, you're freaking out because now you know when you're going to die. So if everyone just acted like that now and you assume that you're dying tomorrow, what would you do today? Now, again, some people would say, well, Brad, that's ridiculous because if I knew I was going to die today, I'd go blow all my money.
- 47:55And I wouldn't care about anything. Well, again, but there's where the stupid, stupid comes in. You know, you might not die today. Think about that too. But my point is, is what would you feel like? What would you, what would you operate like? You would be very grateful for the time that you have. You would be running around trying to ultimately spend time with more loved ones. You'd have your priorities, I would think in a different order. So if people can realize, man, you're going to die one of these days.
- 48:24If you can wake up with the thought of gratitude, it shifts your perspective to one of opportunity, and then the opportunities start to show up left and right. And with all those opportunities come opportunities that you take advantage of, and then you finally realize after you get older, man, I could have been more successful much quicker had I just understood these things. And my trick is I wake up with extreme gratitude.
- 48:52I understand that waking up is worth more than anything I'm trying to get throughout the day. And in one video, I was talking to this group and I said,
- 49:03I was thinking up in an analogy, and now I've heard it in different languages. I hear it all over the place. I said, you know, if I gave you a million dollars, what would you feel like? And they're like, oh man, I'd be so excited, I'd be pumped up. And I said, well, if I gave you a million dollars, but you couldn't wake up tomorrow, would you take it? They said, well, of course not. So you agree that waking up is worth more than a million dollars. They're like, well, yeah. Well then how come you don't act the same every single morning?
- 49:30Why don't you feel that kind of gratitude and that kind of, of luck and, and, and excitement and enthusiasm for just life, just for waking up. So I tricked my brain to do that. And now when I wake up every morning, dude, I'm out of bed and I'm fired up. Why? Cause dude, I got the whole day, hopefully to, to freaking do whatever I want, man. And I get another day. It's unbelievable. And what it does is it shifts my perspective.
- 49:57To where now what normally would cause me to go, oh boy, and start being in a bad mood and worrying about this and worrying about that. Dude, it's actually an opportunity to solve some challenges, some puzzles, some games. It's almost like a game. And everyone says, Brad, how do you have such a good attitude? That's how. I base everything in gratitude. Because you're so good looking and successful, brother. That's what it is. Yeah.
- 50:21That was brilliant. Thank you for sharing that. And I love that about you. So I, you know, I have two more questions. So do you have time? Sure. Okay. I want to deviate from the two questions for two seconds because, because you posted this morning about, and today's February 6th, it's going to air in about two weeks. Toby Keith passed away last night from, from cancer and you put a post up and you guys hanging out. What's the best thing?
- 50:48advice besides what you just said about living your life? I put a post on this morning about that. I changed what I was going to say. And I said, you know, I'm old enough now to start doing the math. So it's 62. He was 62 and I'm 48, 14 years. I started thinking, okay, if I got 14 years left, what am I going to do? So, and I want to wake up every day with gratitude and everything
- 51:18Toby Keith's young passing. Well, you know, I was just talking about it over the last 10 minutes. It's the same thing, man. Realize one day you're not going to get another one. Period. Now, again, five years ago, Toby was running around like a stud selling out stadiums.
- 51:38drinking out of red cups and just having fun, right? He had no idea he'd be told he has cancer here shortly, and then boom, even shorter, gone. If he would have known that, how much more would have he appreciated and lived the life he had? And that's all I'd say is, man, just stop worrying about other people's opinion because they don't give a shit about you anyway. Okay, 100 years from now, all your possessions will be gone,
- 52:05Everything you cared about will be gone. Everyone you cared about will be gone. No one will care about you or what you did in life. And if you're like, well, that's not true. I'm going to change the world. Well, then get on it. Okay? Get on it. But at the end of the day, man, if you just realize every day is a gift, and it really is. Every day is a gift. You'll start to smile and be in a little bit better mood. And if you can just do that every single day, man, the day you die,
- 52:34And then I would also say get right with God because there is a creator, my friends. There has to be. And you better get right with him. And that's the question is like, what is right? I don't know. That's the whole thing. Like, you better start seeking because what if you're wrong? Ooh, shit. From what I hear, it's not good. Wow. You know, right is all in relative. It's what feels right to you. You've said it a thousand times. I say, you know what I say, be right? I say this. Be kind. Be generous.
- 53:04That's it. Be kind and be generous. And if you die and you spent your whole life being kind and generous and you still get punished, well, then that's a bullshit freaking deal. Let me add to one more thing to you. But if life is a gift, that's why you need to be present. What's something about you that people will be surprised to know?
- 53:35But I have, well, no one would be surprised about that. You know, I'm really an open book. I don't think anyone would be surprised about anything.
- 53:47I'd say, you want to know, I'll give you feedback, and I get to know you for the last hour. You're a big softie, bro. You're a big softie. You don't come across that way. People know that. And you know a lot, man. I'm impressed. I'm going to come hang out with you. You live in Vegas? Yes. Well, here in Nashville. I'm in Vegas.
- 54:07Oh, you're in Nashville right now? No, I'm in Vegas right now, but I have a house in Nashville. We go down there from time to time. I'd rather meet you in Nashville. I got another podcast studio down there that we can freaking go blast and drop some bombs on. And that's a hop, skip, and a jump for me. I have a house in Detroit and one in Florida, and I go back and forth, back and forth, so.
- 54:29Is there, I didn't even ask, how can people work with you? I know I was on your website, I've done all the research, I know how to do it, but what's the most impactful, fun thing that you want people to, when they're listening to this podcast, how can someone get more Bradley?
- 54:46Well, you know, I'm not sure if my website's finished, but I'm going to focus on my companies. I don't do courses and all these events. I do them occasionally with people just because I like to get the knowledge from the people that have it to the people that need it, because I think that's the missing key. And so I'm going to show people how to make a couple hundred thousand dollars a year and beyond, because I can't believe if you're not making two or three hundred thousand dollars a year that you don't.
- 55:14And other people, how exactly? Let me show you how. And then once you get to two or $300,000, because I can get anybody there if they're willing to do the work. Once I get people there, well, then it'll grow into all kinds of things. Investment groups, masterminds, all kinds of things. But like.
- 55:33Let me get the people that aren't making two or 300,000 to two or 300,000. Cause that's where kind of really life begins. And that's what I'm going to focus on other than my companies. A lot of people put me in the category of all these gurus, buddy. I'm not a guru. I run, I run companies, real companies. And, and,
- 55:51in the last couple of years, I've been focused on building a brand. So I've been on a lot of stages and I've, and I've gotten caught up into some of these, you know, events and courses and, and, and whatnot. And I started a podcast and it got popular. So it's like, I need to continue building a brand because that's very valuable, but I'm going to focus on my companies. And then I'm going to focus on helping people get to two or $300,000 a year. And that's,
- 56:17And that's all I'm going to do for the next two or three years. Now, the bigger players, because again, I can show people how to go from mid-seven figures to mid-eight figures. Those will be kind of, you know...
- 56:30on a per needed basis type of thing. But that's all I'm going to focus on for the next three years. Blow up my, blow up my companies and sell them for a billion. I was going to wait till we're offline, but because you know, I own an IT company and we sell to a lot of, tell me about Lightspeed VT and I know about it, but how can we partner up and do, and who are you looking for, for training,
- 56:53specifically for Lightspeed, what kind of companies? Well, we have two types of licenses and we look for subject matter experts like Grant and Tony and all the clients that I have that use it to train people. And then we look for companies that need to train people. So whether you're a small company or a large company,
- 57:11If you need to train your people, our technology is really the only training system that exists. All the ones are hosting videos and they call that training. Guys, watching a video doesn't make you trained. It doesn't, it doesn't, like in other words, I've watched mixed martial arts. It doesn't make me a black belt.
- 57:29Okay, so watching videos isn't the key. The key is good content, repetition, practice, and accountability. So my system is a state-of-the-art system that I invented 24 years ago that has grown and developed over the years to be the world's only training system.
- 57:44So Lightspeed allows companies to have a technology that allows them to actually train people for employees, customers, franchises, whatever. And then it allows people like Grant and these other guys that have expertise to train and sell their expertise. So I'm looking for two types of people, people that want to deliver a course or create a course and sell it. Right. There's it's a $300 billion industry and growing.
- 58:12So if you want an online course, I can show you how to do it quicker, faster, cheaper with an actual technology that works. And I'm looking for companies that want to train their employees. Any company, big or small. And by the way, that's why I keep creating these new companies. Now I started one called Real Merchant Services.
- 58:30So it's a credit card processing company. People are like, well, there's a bunch of those. There's nothing new about that. I know, but you know how screwed up that industry is and how much overpayment people are paying? So I can go in and eliminate processing fees for small businesses, and there's millions of them overpaying. Why? Well, because nobody knows there was no regulation. Nobody knows that they're being overcharged.
- 58:54So I started real merchant services, which is literally starting to bring on all these small businesses and I'm eliminating their fees and getting them new equipment. They're like, how come my old company didn't do this? Well, because you already agreed years ago and they aren't going to tell you that you're paying too much because it's paying them.
- 59:10So I started that. I started Real Financial, which is basically a way for people to go out and protect their families and make money. So as I create these additional companies, they all leverage Lightspeed because I'm going to need to train all of them. Does that make sense?
- 59:27Yeah, I completely understand. Sells drugs, does hair, and babysits. Cops don't know when to break down the door. Add cybersecurity to it because we've simplified cybersecurity. Three options. Good, better, best. That's simple. And it's just, we've made it so simple. It goes all, the name of the company is National Technology Management. Somebody doesn't understand cybersecurity, reach out to us because we made it simple.
- 59:53And we got right on our website. Here's option one. Here's option two, option three. How much cybersecurity do you want? And everybody knows what the heck it is. Nobody knows what ransomware. Everybody thinks they got hacked. And it's not. It's just some people are just stupid using the word, the password as password or 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. And then they think they got hacked. No, they guessed your password.
- 1:00:17It's pretty easy. So we make it simple. We have a program and a platform that they cannot penetrate. And it is not Fort Knox where you can still do your work.
