- 0:48SPEAKER_00: Before we dive into that, I want to acknowledge our sponsor.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I want to thank our corporate sponsor and host, Care Michigan.

- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Once we get to the point where we have more years behind us than ahead of us, this is a time that we begin to live with intentionality.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Let's make every moment count.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: And bottom line, you want to take a seat, grab a seat if you can, if you're not driving, grab pen and paper.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Let's take a deep breath and let's get started.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Excellent.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: So I am so excited to have an extraordinary guest in our office, and I believe it's going to be an extraordinary benefit to you.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Um, remember, we are on a journey of approximately 365 days of transformation.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: And during this journey, we are slowly but methodically dissecting all of the issues that typically prevent a person from being able to achieve maximum success.
- 2:30SPEAKER_00: Remember, one of the things I shared a few episodes ago was as we go through this information, as you're listening, you want to try all of the information against truth.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And what I shared with you is that for my book of reference, I use the Bible because the author of truth, the author of success, is the guide that I actually follow in my life's journey.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: Now, I want you to imagine for a moment, the gentleman that we have here is not just an extraordinary television radio personality.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: He's actually been on syndicated radio now for over 40 years.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: He's uh known uh on a weekly basis in at least 50 urban markets across the United States.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: And what I'm so excited about is he is a product of Metropolitan Detroit.
- 3:26SPEAKER_00: He was born to a mom and dad that ran a family business, an amazing, very rich history.
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And he's now moved over into the movie producing industry.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: And I want you to, as we're unpacking this conversation, I want you to listen with an open mind.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: And I want you to begin to hear your story in his story.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: And I want you to hear the question that I have for you in the questions that I ask him.
- 3:57SPEAKER_00: So without any further ado, I am honored and pleased to be able to welcome the incredible Gerald McBride to the studio.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: And Gerald, I gotta say, welcome.
- 4:08SPEAKER_01: Well, thank you so much for having me, Marcus.
- 4:10SPEAKER_01: Wow, man.
- 4:11SPEAKER_01: What an honor to be here in your studio, man.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: I'm just glad that you're here.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: And it's just so extraordinary.
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: Bro, you're doing such extraordinary things.
- 4:21SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: And most people uh that do not know right now you're in, you're on the big screen.
- 4:27SPEAKER_00: You've got a production that's pretty amazing.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: Called Black Ice.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Uh, Black Ice The Rhythm, right.
- 4:34SPEAKER_01: And which will be released uh May 16th on three platforms on uh Google Play, okay, Apple TV, and Amazon Prime.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: And it starts May 16th.
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: So you mean to tell me that you've produced a movie that is on all those platforms?
- 4:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: And you're from the city of Detroit.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: And I'm from Detroit, and the movie is about Detroit.
- 4:58SPEAKER_01: So how about that?
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: Why don't you give us a little snippet, a little bit of what is the what is the focus of the movie?
- 5:03SPEAKER_01: Well, the story once again is called The Rhythm, and it's a story of uh some young black hockey players in the city of Detroit.
- 5:10SPEAKER_01: And I if I can just kind of give you a little background on how I got the idea.
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: Uh one of my clients came in the town and he's from Connecticut, and his son was playing for UMask, and he said, would you mind taking me to a hockey game at the University of Michigan?
- 5:24SPEAKER_01: My son is playing there.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: And I said, Sure.
- 5:26SPEAKER_01: Uh so we get to the University of Michigan, and uh it's sold out, Marcus.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: It's 10,000 seats, and I'm the only black guy in the entire arena.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: And I was like, wow.
- 5:39SPEAKER_01: Man, I believe right then and there, God gave me this idea for a movie, and I just started writing.
- 5:46SPEAKER_01: I had no experience in writing a film at all.
- 5:49SPEAKER_01: I've produced a lot of radio and TV commercials, but never uh a film.
- 5:53SPEAKER_01: So I mean it's just so many uh different elements to making a film.
- 5:58SPEAKER_01: Um but I just started writing, man.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: I started writing on notepads, I started, you know, just just I knew exactly what was gonna happen to this movie from the beginning to the middle to the end, and I just kept pushing and developing this this script over and over and over again.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 6:14SPEAKER_01: And um finally I I got it to um to a place where I thought it was worth investing in.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: So I invested in final draft, and I also uh took some writing classes, and then I just submitted it to Hollywood and I started getting some some bites on it.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: That is incredible.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: So so we know now that anything is possible.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Anything is is possible, absolutely.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: It starts with a dream.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: Yes, exactly.
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: And you would agree that in your life's journey you've gone through some transformations.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 6:46SPEAKER_01: And this started like uh like you said, it it did start as a dream, but it also started as a passion.
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: It was just something inside me that I knew I had to do, and I knew that God had given me an assignment to do.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: So it's really about me stepping out on faith and making sure that it got done.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: In 2022, that's exactly what I did.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: I stepped out on faith, still not having all the answers or knowing exactly how to get it done, but I stepped out on faith and things started to fall into place in at the uh in the middle of uh May of 2022, I actually started uh shooting the movie and we finished it uh in 2023.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Amazing.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 7:24SPEAKER_00: Well, I'm so excited about that.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: And and now we have to talk about we're gonna just take one piece out of your transformation.
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: So we've talked about uh along this journey as we've been going through the 365 days, we've talked about different things like faith and belief, and we've talked about the importance and the value of belief.
- 7:46SPEAKER_00: Well, really, one of the things that's very important during this process is forgiveness.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: Because in the mind or in the heart, this is where the dream that God puts in your heart, this is where it's going to be developed.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And in order for it to actually flourish and grow and become that incredible life that only God could provide for you, it's important that your heart be clean, as clean as possible.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And forgiveness is going to be key.
- 8:18SPEAKER_00: So why share with me your thoughts about the importance of forgiveness?
- 8:22SPEAKER_01: First of all, there's always going to be somebody that's going to offend you.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:26SPEAKER_01: And that's just a part of life.
- 8:28SPEAKER_01: And I think forgiveness is just an ongoing process.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: Now, some may be bigger than others, okay, but there's always an ongoing process of forgiving over and over and over and over again.
- 8:40SPEAKER_01: And Jesus even says, How many times should we forgive?
- 8:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:44SPEAKER_01: 70 times seven.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: So I just think it's just something that you just have to learn how to do quickly so that you can move on and then accomplish what God has put on your heart.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: Because yes, those things become a distraction, that hurt, uh, that pain, um, that offense that you may be going through, it does.
- 9:02SPEAKER_01: It becomes an obstacle for um and stops you from really walking into what God has for you.
- 9:10SPEAKER_01: So I think it's very, very important that you learn to forgive quickly, over and over and over again.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: So forgiveness being a being like a very critical thing because in the mind, the mind is like a like a nest.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: And in order for whatever God has deposited in you, in order for it to actually blossom, bloom, grow, come into full fruition, you have to address unforgiveness.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So you were sharing something with me.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: You actually shared an uh affirmation because that is um for our next episode, it's on affirmations.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: But you have done something very special with affirmations that we are going to share with the viewers.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: They'll be able to click the link below and go directly to your website that is absolutely filled with amazing affirmations.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: But relative to forgiveness, you were sharing the concept or the correlation or um the the um comparison of unforgiveness and poison.
- 10:19SPEAKER_00: Could you just talk about that real quick?
- 10:20SPEAKER_01: Yes, absolutely.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: And in when you listen or watch this video that I have on declarations on on uh unforgiveness, unforgiveness is like drinking your own poison and expecting the other person to die.
- 10:35SPEAKER_01: That's that's how powerful it is.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: And and I I think a lot of times, Marcus, you know, a lot of us like to sweep this thing under under the rug um without really dealing with it.
- 10:49SPEAKER_01: It's like, okay, let me just forget about it and not say anything.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: But I think, you know, sometimes with this unforgiveness, you really need to be honest with yourself and deal with it and make sure that you're forgiving that person from your heart.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: So if unforgiveness is being harbored in a person's mind, unforgiveness is is is taking root in their soul.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: And how difficult is them, how difficult does it become for a person to achieve and to see opportunities when they're presented, when they're harboring unforgiveness?
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: Let me put this, let me let me put it in another way.
- 11:26SPEAKER_01: How can God reveal these things to you when you're harboring unforgiveness?
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, you're looking to God to open up your mind spiritually to the things that He has in plan for you, that He has planned for you.
- 11:41SPEAKER_01: But sometimes your your um your um your lack of obedience, which is forgiveness, can get in the way of Him revealing things to you.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: So I think that's the bottom line.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: I think you've got to get to the root of it in order for um God to speak to you about your purpose and about your direction.
- 12:05SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: One of the things that I've shared with all the viewers is the importance of journaling.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: As we're going through this transformation process, a lot of people, Gerald, started in a position where they were not living their best lives.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 12:22SPEAKER_00: They were not uh processing all the turmoil and chaos that sometimes seems to sweep through our country and around the world.
- 12:31SPEAKER_00: They just were having difficulty processing through that.
- 12:34SPEAKER_00: And so I suggested to everyone that's transforming with us during this journey that they journal.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: How important is journaling?
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: I think journaling is so very, very important.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: First of all, I think it's important that you're writing down the goals and the things that you want to do in life and you're able to go back and look at them.
- 12:57SPEAKER_01: I think it's also very important in prayer as you continue to prayer and the things that you believe God is saying to you, to journal those things, to write those things down, to go back, to look at them, to see your progress.
- 13:11SPEAKER_01: Uh I I think it's just so very, very important to write things down.
- 13:15SPEAKER_01: Uh the scripture is write the vision down and make it plain so that he that reads it can run with it.
- 13:22SPEAKER_01: And I think the person that's gonna run with this is is the Lord that's gonna be able to run with it, that's gonna be able to open the doors.
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: But it's important that you that you write these things down.
- 13:31SPEAKER_00: That's so good.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: I I ru I refer to that scripture all the time.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: And I and I always say that those that read may run thereby.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: And I'm always thinking then the angels that are out here helping us.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: Yes, absolutely.
- 13:45SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So journaling is is uh very, very important.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: Let me ask you this.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Some people that are listening to this uh particular episode, and they're thinking, um, this gentleman is uh on the radio every single week.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: He's in 50 different uh markets.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: You are uh the voice of urban media, right?
- 14:07SPEAKER_00: And at the same time, you're you're now on the big screen.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: You were probably born with a silver spoon in your mouth.
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: That's funny, right?
- 14:17SPEAKER_01: No, this has been a tough journey.
- 14:20SPEAKER_01: And if I can just kind of share this with you, um, I'm also writing a book, and in this book, it really talks about how bad I really messed up.
- 14:30SPEAKER_01: You know, the more I work on this book, Marcus, um, the more God wants me to share the the tragedies in my life, the the things that I was uh doing wrong, and uh the things that were really embarrassing that I'm putting in this book.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: So But in the end, what it does, it shows how God was the one who turned this around.
- 14:51SPEAKER_01: So it doesn't matter how bad you have messed up, it doesn't matter how many mistakes you've made, how stupid you thought you were.
- 15:00SPEAKER_01: I'm reading some of the stuff that I did, and I'm thinking, this was ridiculous.
- 15:04SPEAKER_01: How could it have been so stupid?
- 15:06SPEAKER_01: But man, God turned things around.
- 15:10SPEAKER_01: And I think he wants me to reveal that to the world that it's never too late.
- 15:15SPEAKER_01: It is never too late.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: Um we all make mistakes, we all go down wrong paths, but there's a God that can turn things around in your life.
- 15:27SPEAKER_00: Isn't it amazing, Joel, how God actually uses every heartbreak, every setback, every trial, every uh uh stumble, every fall.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Every fall.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: He uses everything to teach you something.
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: He doesn't waste anything, nothing.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: Nothing is wasted.
- 15:47SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: Absolutely.
- 15:49SPEAKER_01: I think that's just that that is so true, Marcus.
- 15:52SPEAKER_00: Do you know oftentimes I'm talking to people that are really struggling?
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: I've even received a lot of uh DMs and different uh it's it I will admit this since we started doing this, it is extremely difficult to even reply to all of these, you know, comments.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: And it's it's it's almost impossible.
- 16:12SPEAKER_00: Like we really need to uh have another person on staff just to help with that.
- 16:17SPEAKER_00: We didn't know it was going to grow like this, right?
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: But I I get these um uh comments from people talking about the pain that they're living with from previous failure, um, previous disappointments, uh, different struggles and setbacks, different losses.
- 16:34SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: Some people are just dealing with so much.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Yes, but I say as well that God doesn't waste anything, He uses everything for our good.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: That is so true.
- 16:47SPEAKER_01: And and if I could just make this point, God is a God of second chances, third chances, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, and it just goes on and on.
- 16:59SPEAKER_01: That's exactly what this movie is about, too.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: Here's a young man who goes to prison for uh almost murdering somebody on the ice, and once he gets out of jail, he just doesn't think he can make it anymore.
- 17:12SPEAKER_01: But in this movie, all he had to do was just believe.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Don't be afraid, just believe, knowing that God is there for you.
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: And he steps out on faith.
- 17:23SPEAKER_01: And, you know, of course, you gotta watch the movie.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna tell you what happens, but you can imagine what happened.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 17:30SPEAKER_01: But yeah, Marcus, it's so true.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: And the other thing, um, I was afraid to make the movie.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: I was really afraid.
- 17:37SPEAKER_01: I just didn't believe that I could do anything like this.
- 17:39SPEAKER_01: I was trying to give it away.
- 17:41SPEAKER_01: So while I'm writing something about not being afraid and just believe, I'm actually living it out myself.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: So I'm to anybody who's out there watching, don't be afraid.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: Just believe.
- 17:55SPEAKER_01: And it's amazing.
- 17:56SPEAKER_01: Once you take the first step, gotta take the next one for you.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Yes, that is so good.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: Well, you already know that our time here is um this is amazing.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: I have to thank you, Joe McBride, for just spending the time with us.
- 18:13SPEAKER_00: But for those that are listening in, remember we only have now a little over 348 more moments together like this.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: There is absolutely no cost to believe, but the cost of unbelief is amazing.
- 18:31SPEAKER_00: What if Joel McBride had not believed that God had favored him to enter into the movie industry?
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: What if he had given up with one setback, with one hurdle that seemed insurmountable?
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: What if he had put that dream on hold?
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: If you are listening in, I need you to remember this that when we started this journey together, I shared with you that you are fearfully and wonderfully made for such a time as this.
- 19:07SPEAKER_00: And as we go through this transformation, just like we said in episode 16, keep 15 rather, keep your antennas up because even while you're going through transformation, God himself is going to open doors of opportunity for you because that's who he is and that's how this works.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: So keep your antennas up so that when it's presented, you're able to seize the day.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: With that being said, I want to thank you for joining with us.
- 19:40SPEAKER_00: Be here tomorrow, same time, same place for the next episode.
- 19:44SPEAKER_00: And if this particular episode was encouraging to you and inspirational to you, please like it and then share it with a friend.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: We will make a difference.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: We will impact one million people in this country and we will change it for the better.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: I'm so proud to be on this journey with you.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: And I want to thank you.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: And I'm looking forward to obviously having Gerald McBride back in the studio.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: I just want you to know that we do want you back.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Well, thank you.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: All right to be here.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: And uh, with that being said, thank you to everyone who has joined with us, and I guess it's a perfect time to say, let's go.
