- 0:12Hello friends, It's Sean here. Good to have your company.
- 0:16I hope you are doing well on this Tuesday morning If you were
- 0:19married to me. You are spectacular and it is
- 0:22your birthday. Happy birthday to you.
- 0:24And for the rest of you, if it is your birthday, Oh snap.
- 0:28How good's that? But if it's not your birthday,
- 0:30happy unbirthday to everyone. I hope it is a marvelous day for
- 0:35everyone all and sundry. Because today is the day that we
- 0:40get to read another chapter of God's Word together.
- 0:43Who knew that was going to be a thing, right?
- 0:45But here we are. We are going to keep reading.
- 0:47We are today reading where Isaiah writes all about the
- 0:52future glory of Jerusalem. And this is not just Jerusalem,
- 0:57the city that his people will soon be returned to, as the
- 1:01Babylonians give way to the Persians and the Persians send
- 1:04them home. But this is also a glimpse into
- 1:06all of our eternal future, where Isaiah writes about our eternal
- 1:12home, what God is going to prepare for us.
- 1:16So cool things, exciting things, wonderful promises.
- 1:20Let us read them all together as we read together.
- 1:23Isaiah chapter 54 Sing.
- 1:37O childless woman, you who have never given birth, break into
- 1:42loud and joyful song, O Jerusalem, You who have never
- 1:46been in labour for the desolate woman, now has more children
- 1:51than the woman who lives with her husband, says the Lord.
- 1:55Enlarge your house, build an addition, spread out your home,
- 2:00and spare no expense, for you will soon be bursting at the
- 2:04seams. Your descendants will occupy
- 2:07other nations and resettle the ruined cities.
- 2:11Fear not. You will no longer live in
- 2:13shame. Don't be afraid.
- 2:16There is no more disgrace for you.
- 2:18You will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the
- 2:21sorrows of widowhood, for your creator will be your husband.
- 2:26The Lord of Heaven's armies is His name.
- 2:29He is your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel, the God of all
- 2:35the earth. For the Lord has called you back
- 2:38from your grief, as though you were a young wife abandoned by
- 2:43her husband, says your God. For a brief moment I abandoned
- 2:48you, but with great compassion I will take you back.
- 2:52In a burst of anger I turned my face away for a little while,
- 2:57but with everlasting love I will have compassion on you, says the
- 3:02Lord, your Redeemer. Just as I swore in the time of
- 3:06Noah that I would never again let a flood cover the earth, so
- 3:11now I swear that I will never again be angry and punish you.
- 3:16For the mountains may move and the hills disappear, But even
- 3:21then my faithful love for you will remain.
- 3:24My covenant of blessing will never be broken, says the Lord
- 3:28who has mercy on you. O storm battered city, troubled
- 3:34and desolate. I will rebuild you with precious
- 3:37jewels and make your foundations from lapis lazuli.
- 3:41I will make your towers of sparkling rubies, your gates of
- 3:46shining gems, and your walls of precious stones.
- 3:52I will teach all your children and they will enjoy great peace.
- 3:57You will be secure under a government that is just and
- 4:00fair. Your enemies will stay far away.
- 4:05You will live in peace, and terror will not come near.
- 4:09If any nation comes to fight you, it is not because I sent
- 4:13them. Whoever attacks you will go down
- 4:16in defeat. I have created the blacksmith
- 4:19who fans the coals beneath the forge and makes the weapons of
- 4:23destruction, and I have created the armies that destroy.
- 4:28But in that coming day, no weapon turned against you will
- 4:33succeed. You will silence every voice
- 4:37raised up to accuse you. These benefits are enjoyed by
- 4:41the servants of the Lord. Their vindication will come from
- 4:45me. I, the Lord, have spoken,
- 4:59Jesus, You have earned for us a safety and a victory and a
- 5:07jubilant life ahead that is without compare.
- 5:12We read Isaiah's words that you gave him long ago, and the
- 5:18glorious sweep of your provision and justice and kindness is
- 5:24total. Thank you that you really do
- 5:29have complete control of our future and have beautiful,
- 5:34brilliant plans for us to be held so profoundly in your hand
- 5:40forevermore. We are so grateful for that
- 5:44provision for us. Let us live in exultant
- 5:49expectation for that day to arrive, and in the meantime we
- 5:55will love you and wait patiently and expectantly.
- 6:00In your name we pray Jesus. Amen.
