- 2:25Speaker 3: messaging in data rates may apply.
- 2:27Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:29Speaker 3: Texas women's basketball last night six ranked log Horns no
- 2:32Speaker 3: trouble at all as expected, beating Southern ninety seven to
- 2:37Speaker 3: thirty nine. Taylor Jones double double, nineteen points, eleven rebounds.
- 2:42Speaker 3: The log Hoorns in the game set a program record
- 2:48Speaker 3: for hitting thirty six free throws in the game. They
- 2:53Speaker 3: hit shot eighty and they hit thirty six out of
- 2:55Speaker 3: forty five, so they hit eighty percent from the line
- 2:58Speaker 3: for the game. And they also had ten blocks in
- 3:01Speaker 3: the game in a nice effort. In addition Taylor Jones'
- 3:04Speaker 3: twentieth career double double, Kyla Oldacre had her fifth double
- 3:08Speaker 3: digit scoring game of the season. Then Kyla had sixteen points,
- 3:11Speaker 3: eight rebounds, two block shots and it's made for really
- 3:16Speaker 3: good one to punch in the pivot in the middle there,
- 3:20Speaker 3: old Acre spelling Taylor Jones and vice versa after the
- 3:23Speaker 3: game that we had a chance to visit with the
- 3:25Speaker 3: transfer from Miami Ohio Kyla Oldacre. I told Kyler Oldacre,
- 3:30Speaker 3: who sat next to me at the welcome home Dienner,
- 3:33Speaker 3: I said, I'm your radio guy. We're gonna talk to
- 3:35Speaker 3: you during the course of the seat. Do you remember
- 3:37Speaker 3: that conversation well, and when you have a performance like this,
- 3:41Speaker 3: it merits conversation. Let me get your thoughts on just
- 3:43Speaker 3: how it's developed from you moving down here and the
- 3:46Speaker 3: transfer in and getting the customed everything, and it looks
- 3:49Speaker 3: like your game is well at hand.
- 3:51Speaker 4: Well overall, I feel like I improved a lie day
- 3:54Speaker 4: by day n practice Taylor helps me get better for
- 3:56Speaker 4: those our guards. And then just moving down here so
- 4:00Speaker 4: you know, I mean it'll move more freely and I
- 4:02Speaker 4: struggling to agree, so it's just a great thing. And
- 4:06Speaker 4: then working now in the morning, went.
- 4:07Speaker 2: To the coaches.
- 4:08Speaker 4: It helps me improve even like by the.
- 4:10Speaker 2: Hour, so we love it.
- 4:12Speaker 3: What was the part of your game you wanted to
- 4:15Speaker 3: take a step forward in coming from Miami University of
- 4:18Speaker 3: Ohio down here being.
- 4:20Speaker 4: More of a dominant post player. And I feel like
- 4:22Speaker 4: I'm achieving that. You know, it's a struggle for them
- 4:25Speaker 4: to guard me. I bury them like hostain. I can
- 4:27Speaker 4: move people, so I use that to the best of
- 4:29Speaker 4: my ability.
- 4:30Speaker 3: How important is it for you and Taylor, who both
- 4:33Speaker 3: had really good numbers tonight, to be able to keep
- 4:36Speaker 3: the other fresh while one is on the floor.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Just our momentum and our energy. You know, we come
- 4:41Speaker 4: off the bench, we feed into it. She comes back
- 4:44Speaker 4: off with the bench, she sees into it as well.
- 4:45Speaker 2: We just keep it up.
- 4:46Speaker 5: Can keep Brian to be.
- 4:47Speaker 3: Up Okay, So we've been talking about this all this traveling.
- 4:50Speaker 2: You guys have been doing it? Have you have you
- 4:53Speaker 2: been able to unpack and do laundry and things as
- 4:56Speaker 2: soon as you get back.
- 4:57Speaker 4: I do it like it'll be a sway am I
- 4:59Speaker 4: putting loaded? I'll be back up and then I'll repressure
- 5:01Speaker 4: a little bit and then change it out.
- 5:02Speaker 3: So how about your first full semester academically? Everything go
- 5:06Speaker 3: how you wanted?
- 5:06Speaker 2: Oh yes, honor roll.
- 5:08Speaker 4: Hey there we wait for this next final so hopefully
- 5:11Speaker 4: you know still.
- 5:12Speaker 2: When is that Friday? And then what subject?
- 5:14Speaker 4: Uh? Pusiology? So sports management?
- 5:17Speaker 5: Basically you got that.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, thanks Kyle, appreciate it. Thank you. She is she's
- 5:22Speaker 2: a lot of fun to visit with. You visited with it.
- 5:24Speaker 3: You what you sat next her at a team dinner
- 5:26Speaker 3: on the road when you guys had the James Madison.
- 5:27Speaker 2: Trip last weekend. Yeah, Texas roadhouse, washing Texas and Georgia
- 5:31Speaker 2: in the playoff.
- 5:32Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, she's she could be pretty glib, and she
- 5:34Speaker 3: just gotta dropped that in and said, hey, you know,
- 5:37Speaker 3: everything go all right? And then I didn't necessarily mean
- 5:41Speaker 3: it in terms of what you did academically. I just
- 5:45Speaker 3: meant your whole first semester dealing with things, because sometimes
- 5:48Speaker 3: student athletes will say, yeah, it was kind of rough
- 5:50Speaker 3: my first fall getting customer, and she just kind of shruggling, Yeah,
- 5:55Speaker 3: honor roll.
- 5:57Speaker 2: You know, her demeanor on the court is pretty stone faced,
- 5:59Speaker 2: right it is.
- 6:00Speaker 6: It's not high or low. She gets say and one,
- 6:03Speaker 6: it's the same reaction as when she'll lose a ball
- 6:06Speaker 6: out of bounce. She's very very even keel. Yeah, no
- 6:10Speaker 6: doubt about it.
- 6:10Speaker 3: And that was good And it's good to have her
- 6:14Speaker 3: being able to spell Taylor Jones.
- 6:15Speaker 2: It just makes the both of them all the more effective.
- 6:18Speaker 2: All right.
- 6:19Speaker 3: Next action for the Texas women is Sunday at noon
- 6:22Speaker 3: in Richmond. They play at the Robins Center against the
- 6:26Speaker 3: Richmond Spiders. Now, Roger Wallace is going to call the
- 6:29Speaker 3: play by play on that. I'm going to have the
- 6:33Speaker 3: men's game against Mississippi Valley State. Now I have to
- 6:37Speaker 3: admit there's a little bit of oh man about that game,
- 6:42Speaker 3: because I wouldn't mind it calling that game. Why because
- 6:45Speaker 3: I've never called a game with a big Spider logo
- 6:49Speaker 3: on the floor Jo Spider logo at the Robin Center.
- 6:54Speaker 2: It might be the best logo in college sports.
- 6:55Speaker 3: It's one of the mass I had a cousin who
- 6:57Speaker 3: played football Richmond back of the seventies. He played as
- 7:01Speaker 3: a wide receiver. Like, I'm going to buy a shirt
- 7:03Speaker 3: when I'm up there. If I go up there, Yep, Yep,
- 7:05Speaker 3: it's good. And it's a high academic school. Richmond is
- 7:09Speaker 3: I actually did look into possibly applying there, really yep,
- 7:13Speaker 3: because growing up Greensboro, that's about three hours away. And
- 7:17Speaker 3: I thought about it, and I had a like, I said,
- 7:21Speaker 3: a cousin who had just gone through there and played
- 7:22Speaker 3: football at Richmond. I liked the school. I'd seen it before.
- 7:27Speaker 3: Then I saw the academic requirements. I don't know if
- 7:31Speaker 3: I want to test. That's academic school. Long Warnon football
- 7:37Speaker 3: team is preparing for its match up against Clemson, and
- 7:42Speaker 3: that is a week from Saturday, so we're nine days
- 7:45Speaker 3: away from kickoff for Texas and Clemson in the college
- 7:48Speaker 3: football Playoff. Earlier today, Long Wort's head coach, Steve Sarkisian,
- 7:52Speaker 3: was on the Rich Eisen Show with the NFL Network
- 7:55Speaker 3: host and also the host of his own radio show
- 7:59Speaker 3: and coach On with Eisen, and one of the things
- 8:03Speaker 3: that the Rich Eson asked Sart was about arch manning
- 8:07Speaker 3: his role as it stands now?
- 8:08Speaker 2: Is it an expanded role? How to start view all
- 8:11Speaker 2: of that?
- 8:12Speaker 1: And I know when we spoke earlier in the season,
- 8:14Speaker 1: you were saying that it's possible you and a lot
- 8:17Speaker 1: of your colleagues in college football might start resting some
- 8:22Speaker 1: guys middle of the season, towards the end of the
- 8:24Speaker 1: season because you know you have this stretch coming up.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Obviously that's what guaranteed for you until you did win
- 8:30Speaker 1: towards the end of the season. Did you actually coach
- 8:33Speaker 1: differently this time around knowing that you might have this
- 8:38Speaker 1: stretch coming up?
- 8:40Speaker 7: Well, I think the one thing that we that we
- 8:42Speaker 7: adjusted was definitely our practice plans and schedules, and you know,
- 8:47Speaker 7: just the length of the season, the amount of games
- 8:49Speaker 7: you have to play, you know, I think is always
- 8:53Speaker 7: is always challenging. You know, we're going to play seventeen
- 8:55Speaker 7: games hopefully, and you know that that's much different than before.
- 8:59Speaker 7: And so I think think managing your player, your player
- 9:01Speaker 7: workload on a week to week basis, managing you know,
- 9:06Speaker 7: your days off and when you're giving them some days
- 9:08Speaker 7: off to to get away from the facility, to to
- 9:11Speaker 7: kind of regroup and and kind of re center themselves
- 9:15Speaker 7: have been really the main things that we've adjusted. You know, Naturally,
- 9:18Speaker 7: as the season's gone on, we've had to make some
- 9:20Speaker 7: critical decisions on players that were nursing injuries of you know,
- 9:24Speaker 7: potentially holding them out or not or limiting their role
- 9:26Speaker 7: to try to get him as healthy as we could
- 9:28Speaker 7: for this stretch run. But but nowhere did we ever
- 9:32Speaker 7: just intentionally hold anybody out.
- 9:34Speaker 5: You know, we never went to that extreme.
- 9:35Speaker 1: The one of the managed players, is it Quinn yours?
- 9:38Speaker 5: Would you say he's one of them?
- 9:40Speaker 3: Oh?
- 9:40Speaker 7: Yeah, We've definitely had to manage him throughout the season.
- 9:42Speaker 7: He got he got you know, injured early in the season,
- 9:45Speaker 7: came back, had had a nurse an ankle injury here
- 9:48Speaker 7: the latter half of the season. I think he's responded
- 9:51Speaker 7: to it really well. I give him a lot of
- 9:52Speaker 7: credit of how he's managed that. But we've been dealing
- 9:56Speaker 7: with that with a handful of players. You know, we
- 9:57Speaker 7: have not been one hundred percent. You know, every year
- 10:00Speaker 7: it's different, you know, what happens to your team, the
- 10:03Speaker 7: injuries that may occur, and we've definitely endured some, most notably.
- 10:06Speaker 5: On the offensive side. Of the ball.
- 10:08Speaker 7: But I think our guys have responded to it, you know,
- 10:11Speaker 7: week in and week out really well.
- 10:12Speaker 2: And so.
- 10:14Speaker 1: How do you think yours looks now? I mean, because
- 10:17Speaker 1: that that is part of the conversation from people in
- 10:19Speaker 1: my chair, is that he has not looked certainly like
- 10:22Speaker 1: the kid that I saw against Michigan.
- 10:24Speaker 2: How does he look to you going on?
- 10:26Speaker 5: It's you know, when you're not one hundred percent, you
- 10:29Speaker 5: have to manage that.
- 10:30Speaker 7: And I thought he was able to use his legs
- 10:32Speaker 7: a little bit better here the last couple of weeks.
- 10:36Speaker 7: I think we need to improve is we got to
- 10:38Speaker 7: keep trying to play better around him.
- 10:40Speaker 5: You know, we we were not you know, when.
- 10:42Speaker 7: Our running game is not going, we become somewhat of
- 10:45Speaker 7: a limited offensive football team.
- 10:47Speaker 5: And we've got to make sure that we find that
- 10:48Speaker 5: right balance.
- 10:49Speaker 7: And we've got to make sure that we protect the
- 10:50Speaker 7: passer well, got to make sure we're catching the balls.
- 10:52Speaker 5: We've got to make sure we're disciplined in our routs.
- 10:54Speaker 7: We got to make sure there's a coaching staff we're
- 10:56Speaker 7: putting together a good plan that that that allows him
- 10:59Speaker 7: to play that level. And then he's got to do
- 11:01Speaker 7: his part too, and So in the end, I think,
- 11:04Speaker 7: like anything, you're the quarterback at the University of Texas,
- 11:06Speaker 7: you probably get a little more credit than we deserve
- 11:10Speaker 7: when we play well, and you probably get too much
- 11:12Speaker 7: blame when when you lose a ball game and overtime
- 11:15Speaker 7: against the Georgia who arguably is the best defense in
- 11:18Speaker 7: the country. So all in all, that comes with the territory.
- 11:20Speaker 7: But I credit quin a Ton for how he's handled
- 11:23Speaker 7: everything and managed it and stayed focused on the task
- 11:26Speaker 7: at hand. And that's playing really good football and being
- 11:29Speaker 7: a great teammate and a great leader.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I know, in terms of managing somebody and potentially a
- 11:36Speaker 1: banged up person as well, it doesn't usually mean take
- 11:39Speaker 1: him off the field.
- 11:40Speaker 2: But what about using Arch manning more coach?
- 11:43Speaker 7: Yeah, no, there's always opportunities to do that, and I
- 11:46Speaker 7: think we found we found opportunities to do that against
- 11:49Speaker 7: A and M and against Georgia. Arch is a great
- 11:52Speaker 7: player and he's a great teammate as well, and so
- 11:54Speaker 7: we're fortunate to have both those guys in that room.
- 11:58Speaker 7: And utilizes some of his strengths when those opportunities present themselves.
- 12:01Speaker 1: So, but how do you manage that, because you know
- 12:03Speaker 1: conversations again, in worlds like this outside your building get
- 12:08Speaker 1: to be had. Certainly when he's taken snaps, and man,
- 12:11Speaker 1: he looks so physical and he's so fast, he's so big,
- 12:14Speaker 1: and you know what advantage you might have when you
- 12:17Speaker 1: employ him. I mean, he took the first snap for
- 12:19Speaker 1: you in overtime in the SEC championship game, coach, But
- 12:22Speaker 1: how do you manage that knowing it might cause questions
- 12:26Speaker 1: but it might also be quite helpful for you. But
- 12:28Speaker 1: it's also one of those you got to you might
- 12:30Speaker 1: have none scenario.
- 12:33Speaker 7: I'd like to disagree with you on the last statement
- 12:36Speaker 7: we got and we're pretty good, so we're fortunate on that,
- 12:40Speaker 7: you know. I think at the end is, you know,
- 12:41Speaker 7: I try not to consume myself with what y'all think.
- 12:44Speaker 7: We focus on the task at hand, and that's doing
- 12:46Speaker 7: what's in the best interest of the team to win
- 12:49Speaker 7: ball games.
- 12:50Speaker 5: If I read if I.
- 12:51Speaker 7: Kind of led the emotional roller coaster of what other
- 12:55Speaker 7: people think, I'd be an emotional nightmare because in one aspect,
- 13:00Speaker 7: I can read one article that says, you know, Quinn's
- 13:03Speaker 7: the greatest thing since since whomever, and then next.
- 13:06Speaker 5: Article is, why don't you play arch and this and that,
- 13:08Speaker 5: and you can go.
- 13:08Speaker 7: Back and forth all the way around and listen to
- 13:10Speaker 7: you know, talk radio and watch every show and whomever else,
- 13:14Speaker 7: or you can focus on the people in your building,
- 13:17Speaker 7: you know, keep your head down, make sure that you're
- 13:20Speaker 7: providing the right type of motivation and leadership for them
- 13:23Speaker 7: so they can follow your lead. And I think our
- 13:25Speaker 7: guys have done a great job of that. And that's
- 13:28Speaker 7: why it's no secret. You know, we're in the college
- 13:30Speaker 7: football Playoff. We went to the SEC championship game. We
- 13:34Speaker 7: were really the third ranked team and the CFP, but
- 13:36Speaker 7: because of the way they see the teams with automatic bids,
- 13:40Speaker 7: we go in as a as a fifth seed. And
- 13:42Speaker 7: I feel really good about our opportunity to go out
- 13:44Speaker 7: and compete for a national championship. So I'm really not
- 13:47Speaker 7: one to kind of buy into the opinions of others
- 13:51Speaker 7: or the criticism of others that I would never ask
- 13:53Speaker 7: for advice from.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Translation Rich Eisen ever invite me on your show again,
- 13:58Speaker 3: I'm never going to know kidding of that me. He
- 14:00Speaker 3: did say disagreem, and I think all Rich Eisen was
- 14:04Speaker 3: doing there was invoking that old, that old phrase that
- 14:08Speaker 3: goes back by the way, to the seventeen hundreds, and
- 14:11Speaker 3: you're going what Ben Franklin. Benjamin Franklin said, A man
- 14:18Speaker 3: with a watch always knows what time it is. A
- 14:21Speaker 3: man with two watches is never sure. And so the
- 14:25Speaker 3: quarterback deal is, if you have two quarterbacks, you have
- 14:28Speaker 3: no quarterbacks, I think was the old The old phrase.
- 14:31Speaker 3: I don't think that applies in this particular case, because
- 14:34Speaker 3: they do bring different gifts to the party. And that's
- 14:37Speaker 3: why Sark said, I'm going to disagree with you all
- 14:38Speaker 3: that second part. They like what they have there with
- 14:42Speaker 3: with arch Manning as well. All right, coming up next,
- 14:45Speaker 3: we have Inconceivable, by the way, what we have more
- 14:49Speaker 3: with with Sark and rich Eisen, don't we We'll do
- 14:52Speaker 3: that coming up next hour. We'll continue here with Inconceivable
- 14:55Speaker 3: and Sports Radio AAM thirteen under the Zone.
