- 0:03Speaker 1: Wake up.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good
- 0:05Speaker 1: next
- 0:07Speaker 2: Kicking off your day in the best way. It's Sonnya
- 0:10Speaker 2: and Joakim on the shock circuit. Good morning. Happy Thursday.
- 0:13Speaker 2: We are almost there to the weekend, which means 2
- 0:16Speaker 2: more days for you to walk away with not just
- 0:18Speaker 2: concert tickets. We've got an estate dining experience over at
- 0:22Speaker 2: Hilton Hotel and
- 0:23Speaker 1: maybe even $9000. Singapore's number one hit music station.
- 0:32Speaker 1: No matter what. Honestly, I'm just counting down to Labor Day,
- 0:35Speaker 1: first of May.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Wait, wait, do we get a public call? No, we're
- 0:39Speaker 2: still coming into work. Yes,
- 0:40Speaker 1: it's OK. Of in lieu.
- 0:42Speaker 2: We get off in lieu, OK,
- 0:43Speaker 1: but I'm counting
- 0:43Speaker 1: down on your behalf, so hopefully you enjoy a long
- 0:46Speaker 1: or maybe a longer weekend if you take leave around
- 0:49Speaker 1: the same period to go somewhere for a
- 0:50Speaker 1: quick trip.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Yeah, so I mean, I know for a couple of
- 0:53Speaker 2: my friends, they are definitely heading to like Bangkok, for example,
- 0:57Speaker 2: but if I'm not wrong, Thailand is still incredibly hot
- 0:59Speaker 2: right now.
- 1:00Speaker 2: If I'm not wrong,
- 1:01Speaker 1: I've heard it's going up.
- 1:03Speaker 2: I heard that it's going up to like 40s or something. Wait,
- 1:07Speaker 2: let me do a quick check
- 1:08Speaker 1: this is
- 1:09Speaker 1: Bangkok or like the northern side of
- 1:11Speaker 2: Thailand. I'm checking in Bangkok. I'm doing it. Uh, let's go. Oh, OK, OK.
- 1:20Speaker 2: So as of, as of a couple of days back,
- 1:24Speaker 2: as of yesterday.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Um, I think it was about 30 to 34 °C,
- 1:30Speaker 2: which is similar to Singapore, but
- 1:32Speaker 2: If I'm not wrong, certain parts of Thailand last week,
- 1:34Speaker 2: it hit like 50 degrees, you know.
- 1:37Speaker 1: If you, if you key in Bangkok temperature on Google,
- 1:41Speaker 1: it gives you an excessive heat
- 1:43Speaker 1: warning.
- 1:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, OK, so, um, Thailand battles relentless heat wave. OK, yes,
- 1:49Speaker 2: so it's still going up and down right now. So
- 1:51Speaker 2: make sure that if you're traveling there very soon, just
- 1:53Speaker 2: hydrate a lot.
- 1:54Speaker 1: And given how much I perspire here in Singapore, I
- 1:56Speaker 1: think the moment I set foot in Bangkok, that's it
- 1:58Speaker 1: for a new reservoir.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I'm back. Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 2: actually I didn't say why you were gone.
- 2:06Speaker 1: It was a different kind of different kind of runs
- 2:08Speaker 1: if you know what I mean. OK,
- 2:09Speaker 2: we don't need to know this morning.
- 2:10Speaker 1: It's OK. So my stomach has survived. I'm here. Let's
- 2:14Speaker 1: carry on with the show. Well,
- 2:15Speaker 2: it's
- 2:15Speaker 2: all good. It's all good. In less than 15 minutes,
- 2:18Speaker 2: we're gonna open up phone lines. Second last chance for
- 2:20Speaker 2: you to walk away with tickets to catch clout.
- 2:23Speaker 2: 9.
- 2:23Speaker 1: And also, given how it's a Thursday, second last chance
- 2:27Speaker 1: for you to win $9000. Tomorrow, if nobody wins it,
- 2:31Speaker 1: that means on Monday I'm excited, $10,000. Yeah,
- 2:34Speaker 2: can
- 2:34Speaker 2: you imagine that? I mean, I don't recall the last
- 2:37Speaker 2: time we actually gave away $100. Was that like last year?
- 2:41Speaker 2: No one year ago? No, more than one year ago.
- 2:42Speaker 1: More than one year ago.
- 2:43Speaker 1: What? OK,
- 2:44Speaker 2: that's crazy. What you could do with 100.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I recall
- 2:47Speaker 1: that the highest amount we've given away for Secret Sound.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Was sometime in 2018 or 2019
- 2:55Speaker 2: to 100
- 2:58Speaker 1: crossed above $18,000 back in 2018, 2019. It was covered
- 3:02Speaker 1: in the media and all that and even.
- 3:05Speaker 1: I was surprised at how high the amount went,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and I think uh we actually got Zed to try
- 3:09Speaker 2: and guess what the secret sound was, and he had
- 3:11Speaker 2: no clue. Not
- 3:12Speaker 1: just Zed, Mike
- 3:13Speaker 2: Shinoda, yeah, so many
- 3:14Speaker 1: famous
- 3:15Speaker 1: people who came down to Singapore in 2018, 2019. We
- 3:18Speaker 1: played
- 3:18Speaker 1: it with them.
- 3:19Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah. Well, you know what, fun times. Hopefully, um,
- 3:22Speaker 2: once more of them start coming back to Singapore, we
- 3:24Speaker 2: can do that again.
- 3:25Speaker 1: We should play this game with. Yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 2: or Annehold who's going to be here in Singapore.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Why not?
- 3:30Speaker 2: By
- 3:30Speaker 1: then,
- 3:30Speaker 2: will someone win? I don't know because this is happening very.
- 3:33Speaker 2: So in about 2 weeks.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I
- 3:33Speaker 1: was wondering why there were loads of run clubs running
- 3:38Speaker 1: around Marina Bay Sands area. I was kind of wondering
- 3:42Speaker 1: what the next run is. People could be training for
- 3:44Speaker 1: overseas marathons and races. OK,
- 3:47Speaker 2: was there something else going on?
- 3:48Speaker 1: There are a few
- 3:48Speaker 1: Singaporeans coming back from the Boston Marathon.
- 3:51Speaker 2: Yes, yes,
- 3:52Speaker 1: which is one of the world major marathons I would
- 3:55Speaker 1: love to do in the near future. You
- 3:57Speaker 2: know, you've never been to Boston, have you? No, I
- 3:59Speaker 2: love Boston, you know, it's like a little.
- 4:01Speaker 2: It's quite a manicured looking town. It's a student town
- 4:04Speaker 2: because there's a lot of top universities there, but it
- 4:07Speaker 2: is also very near the sea. So you get fantastic seafood,
- 4:10Speaker 2: you know, your Boston lobsters, your chowders and all that.
- 4:12Speaker 1: I was just following it very closely and realized it's
- 4:15Speaker 1: a place called Heartbreak Hill. It's a massive uphill gradient
- 4:20Speaker 1: to which a lot of people might have their hearts
- 4:21Speaker 1: broken because they give up because the gradient can be
- 4:24Speaker 1: a tough one to climb.
- 4:25Speaker 2: Wait, you mean that's part of the marathon?
- 4:27Speaker 1: It is.
- 4:28Speaker 2: So then what if you give up, then you do not.
- 4:33Speaker 1: OK. So I would liken Heartbreak Hill to Singapore's Shears Bridge,
- 4:37Speaker 1: which the gradient can really kill a lot of people
- 4:40Speaker 1: in a running context. Yes, but there was one sign
- 4:43Speaker 1: that went viral and loads of people weren't really too
- 4:47Speaker 1: happy with it. It's by the run sponsors or apparel
- 4:51Speaker 1: sponsors Nike.
- 4:53Speaker 2: Oh, I think I saw that one and uh, OK,
- 4:56Speaker 2: you can go ahead and
- 4:56Speaker 1: tell. The sign read runners welcomed, walkers tolerated, and a
- 5:02Speaker 1: lot of people, even the elite runners are saying, Nike,
- 5:05Speaker 1: how can you put a sign like that to the
- 5:08Speaker 1: point where the backlash was so bad that Nike removed
- 5:10Speaker 1: the sign. Um,
- 5:12Speaker 2: actually, one of their competitors put up, um, an ad
- 5:16Speaker 2: riding on that, you know, I think it was A6 A6.
- 5:21Speaker 2: How smart, right?
- 5:22Speaker 2: I love that. So again,
- 5:23Speaker 1: if you're going to do a run, whether 5, 1021, 42,
- 5:26Speaker 1: even 2.4, you know, if it's your first run in
- 5:29Speaker 1: a while and your body is saying, hey, we're gassed out,
- 5:32Speaker 1: take a slow walk, walk, walking is totally fine. Look,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I walk a lot during a half marathon and a
- 5:38Speaker 1: full marathon to just get my heart rate back down
- 5:41Speaker 1: and my lactic acid
- 5:42Speaker 1: as well.
- 5:43Speaker 2: OK, OK. Well, I'm proud to announce that I did
- 5:45Speaker 2: not walk during my 2.4
- 5:47Speaker 1: because you've never done a 2.4
- 5:49Speaker 2: in secondary school.
- 5:52Speaker 1: Was it the last time you did it? It doesn't count.
- 5:55Speaker 1: Not one, not two, but 4 tickets coming your way
- 5:59Speaker 1: for the ultimate festival happening May 9th. Now we've got
- 6:02Speaker 1: 8 different acts who, you know, if you were to
- 6:05Speaker 1: go for cloud nine, you could say and have bragging
- 6:09Speaker 1: rights that you were there since day one before some
- 6:12Speaker 1: of them catapult to superstardom.
- 6:14Speaker 2: And I'm very confident they will be. You know, there
- 6:16Speaker 2: are some that have never been to Singapore to perform before,
- 6:19Speaker 2: so we're very excited. Give us a call 669-11987. Let
- 6:23Speaker 2: us know what school you're from, what song you want
- 6:25Speaker 2: to hear, maybe you have a shout out and the
- 6:27Speaker 2: moment you get to the phone lines, you immediately walk
- 6:29Speaker 2: away with those tickets. So's do it.
- 6:31Speaker 1: Oh, hi, I'm
- 6:32Speaker 2: Casey. Hi, Casey, what school are you from?
- 6:35Speaker 2: I'm from Anglican High. Anglican High. What level would that
- 6:38Speaker 2: be this year? Se.
- 6:40Speaker 1: So Casey, what's your subject combi for this year?
- 6:43Speaker 1: Biochem,
- 6:44Speaker 2: job,
- 6:45Speaker 1: and SS. So your biochem is combined science or pure Pure,
- 6:49Speaker 1: pure.
- 6:51Speaker 2: OK. Is that your mom in the background correcting you? Yeah.
- 6:56Speaker 2: Hello, how are you?
- 6:58Speaker 2: OK, tell us what is so good about Anglican Highlight?
- 7:01Speaker 2: What would you recommend about your school? Um,
- 7:03Speaker 1: I
- 7:03Speaker 2: think that Anglican High
- 7:05Speaker 1: has
- 7:05Speaker 2: like,
- 7:05Speaker 1: it's like a
- 7:06Speaker 2: very
- 7:06Speaker 1: welcoming
- 7:07Speaker 2: commun community. Everyone here is very friendly
- 7:10Speaker 1: and
- 7:10Speaker 2: like, Oh yeah, the food is really good.
- 7:15Speaker 2: He needs to be reminded by his mom, but hey,
- 7:18Speaker 2: you know what, we love that you love the people
- 7:20Speaker 2: of Anglican High. Often that makes the school awesome. Just
- 7:23Speaker 2: want to say congratulations. First up, you're walking away with
- 7:26Speaker 2: those fifty-fifty tickets.
- 7:30Speaker 1: 4 tickets to cloud nine featuring 50/50.
- 7:34Speaker 2: That's right. Ah, got mixed up there. Alright, congratulations for that.
- 7:38Speaker 2: And now you get to choose a song for your
- 7:41Speaker 2: friends or whoever you want to dedicate it to. What
- 7:43Speaker 2: would you like to hear? Yeah, Emptiness Machine by Linkin Park. OK,
- 7:47Speaker 2: that's coming up for you right now. You have a
- 7:48Speaker 2: great day, OK? Thank you. Take care. Bye-bye. So if
- 7:52Speaker 2: you're tuning in now, um, and you are young parents,
- 7:54Speaker 2: or maybe you are thinking of having kids in the future, um,
- 7:57Speaker 2: this may be very applicable.
- 7:58Speaker 2: Applicable to you because just I think it was a
- 8:01Speaker 2: few months back when uh Jeremy and I were looking
- 8:04Speaker 2: at apartments, right? Because we were thinking, OK, what, what
- 8:07Speaker 2: do we do now because um he's got his place,
- 8:09Speaker 2: I've got my place, and we just need to figure
- 8:11Speaker 2: out this living situation, right? Um, and we're like, oh,
- 8:15Speaker 2: this particular place is quite nice, to which some of
- 8:18Speaker 2: his friends and even my parents were like saying,
- 8:22Speaker 2: But this area, no schools, you know, in the future
- 8:25Speaker 2: if you have a kid, if you have a kid
- 8:27Speaker 2: in the future. They said, huh, must think so far.
- 8:30Speaker 2: To which I think some Singaporeans are like, duh, obviously
- 8:34Speaker 2: you got to think of these things. But to me,
- 8:36Speaker 2: I'm like, but what if I just want to live
- 8:37Speaker 2: in the now, like I like this place, I want
- 8:39Speaker 2: to live here now. Then next time I worry about this,
- 8:42Speaker 2: but I think there are two schools of thought when it,
- 8:44Speaker 2: when it comes to this
- 8:45Speaker 2: issue.
- 8:47Speaker 1: I mean, of course, the notion they have been trying
- 8:48Speaker 1: to put into a good school.
- 8:51Speaker 2: Yes, it is.
- 8:52Speaker 1: But OK, not every school has the same heritage as,
- 8:55Speaker 1: for example, I'm going to name a few names,
- 8:56Speaker 2: OK,
- 8:57Speaker 1: like, like your, your elite
- 9:00Speaker 2: schools basically, yeah. So the thing is I have no
- 9:02Speaker 2: ties to any of these schools because you know I'm
- 9:04Speaker 2: from Saint Anthony's, right? I mean, I am of the
- 9:06Speaker 2: opinion that I don't mind my future kid if it's
- 9:09Speaker 2: a girl going to the same school. Yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Um, but anyway, the point is there are parents that
- 9:15Speaker 2: go to great lengths to get their kids into the
- 9:18Speaker 2: school that they
- 9:18Speaker 2: want.
- 9:19Speaker 1: I mean, the amount of trying to move into the
- 9:21Speaker 1: Balmoral area for AC, I guess that's
- 9:26Speaker 2: for a certain particular school. I mean, I guess that's
- 9:28Speaker 2: one of the reasons why a lot of elite schools
- 9:30Speaker 2: have been slowly moving into different areas of Singapore.
- 9:33Speaker 1: That's why I want to see how many people.
- 9:37Speaker 1: Move to for ACS
- 9:37Speaker 2: exactly, exactly, and primary school is the important one because
- 9:40Speaker 2: that's where you start, right? And then whether or not
- 9:42Speaker 2: your kid makes it into the secondary school version of your,
- 9:47Speaker 2: your preferred school, then that's up to them and their
- 9:48Speaker 2: results for 10 years 10 years,
- 9:57Speaker 1: I don't know, primary.
- 9:59Speaker 1: Maybe Raffles perhaps.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Raffles, yeah, you could be there for 10 years too.
- 10:02Speaker 2: But like I mentioned, you know, people can go to
- 10:04Speaker 2: great lengths and unfortunately for this um mom here in Singapore,
- 10:08Speaker 2: I believe she's a single mom and she went through, well, um,
- 10:12Speaker 2: quite a bit over the past few years. She's officially
- 10:14Speaker 2: been issued a 1-week jail term after.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Lying about her address to get her child into a
- 10:20Speaker 2: popular primary school.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I'm a few weeks ago about renting and she wasn't.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Exactly. So she was trying to say like, oh, I
- 10:32Speaker 2: think her lawyer was also trying to say, but she
- 10:34Speaker 2: was staying there for a period of time, but I
- 10:36Speaker 2: think it's a he said, she said, oh, look into
- 10:39Speaker 2: the details kind of situation, you know. So unfortunately, well,
- 10:42Speaker 2: the Chief Justice had decided to uphold the one-week jail term.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Um, I think she tried to appeal to pay a
- 10:47Speaker 2: fine instead of close to $10,000 but, um, the prosecution
- 10:52Speaker 2: did not seek a higher sentence. They said, let's just
- 10:54Speaker 2: uphold the one-week jail term.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Yeah, OK, because if it was down to $10,000 fine.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Most parents might go, OK, lah, $10,000.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Is it a small price to pay to solve this problem,
- 11:08Speaker 2: is it? Maybe maybe, yeah, yeah. So, um, it doesn't
- 11:12Speaker 2: say what school, of course, because her daughter, her kid
- 11:15Speaker 2: is still a minor, and I hope that it stays
- 11:18Speaker 2: that way because your parents do.
- 11:21Speaker 2: Should not have a negative impact on you, you know
- 11:24Speaker 2: what I mean? Like you don't want her kid to
- 11:26Speaker 2: be bullied in school for that. I mean,
- 11:29Speaker 1: if, for example, by some slip up or whatsoever, if
- 11:33Speaker 1: the students around the girl might find out, oh, it's
- 11:36Speaker 1: your mother or your mother, unfortunately bound to happen.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I know, I really hope not.
- 11:43Speaker 2: I really hope not. He's
- 11:47Speaker 2: in the school doesn't say, since this began quite a
- 11:50Speaker 2: while back, I mean it wasn't yesterday that this case started,
- 11:53Speaker 2: in fact, but you know, things take time, right? So I,
- 11:57Speaker 2: it sounds like the daughter's already in the school. I
- 12:00Speaker 2: don't think the daughter should be punished for
- 12:03Speaker 2: I hope not. What happened, yeah, you know what I mean?
- 12:05Speaker 2: Like collateral damage. He's hoping that she still does well
- 12:08Speaker 2: in school and, you know, um, retains a place there.
- 12:11Speaker 1: Can I be cheeky and say this? I think there
- 12:14Speaker 1: are many cases like this
- 12:15Speaker 1: here in Singapore, and you know,
- 12:16Speaker 2: a lot of them have been reported over the past
- 12:18Speaker 2: few years. Just
- 12:19Speaker 1: that this one gained media traction. Yeah, I don't know
- 12:22Speaker 1: about whether will it, will there be more.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Of such things as parents are looking for good areas
- 12:28Speaker 1: here in Singapore to live in.
- 12:29Speaker 2: I know
- 12:30Speaker 2: people literally move like they sell their place and move
- 12:33Speaker 2: into a house for that reason. But if you do that,
- 12:36Speaker 2: then I guess that's legitimate, you know. Wait, wait,
- 12:37Speaker 1: wait
- 12:38Speaker 1: till you find out how parents are donating inverted commas
- 12:41Speaker 1: to the school. Yeah, there you
- 12:43Speaker 2: go. Sadly, I don't have the millions to have a
- 12:45Speaker 2: Sonia Chewing somewhere.
- 12:48Speaker 1: Hopefully you're having a great start to your Thursday. I
- 12:50Speaker 1: think yesterday was thundering down here in
- 12:53Speaker 2: Singapore. It was, you know, almost every day this week
- 12:55Speaker 2: there was, there'll be one point in the day where
- 12:58Speaker 2: it's starting to thunder and flood
- 13:00Speaker 2: up.
- 13:00Speaker 1: But you know what, it's about time we had some rain.
- 13:02Speaker 2: I don't mind it,
- 13:03Speaker 1: to be honest and humid.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Few weeks when we come back here on the shock
- 13:06Speaker 1: circuit though, a personal observation from yours
- 13:10Speaker 2: truly. Oh no, what was this regarding? Can you at
- 13:12Speaker 2: least narrow it down so I won't be too
- 13:14Speaker 1: shocked. How blessed and privileged we are to be Singaporean.
- 13:18Speaker 2: We already know that. Or do we?
- 13:21Speaker 1: I was just thinking to myself yesterday how privileged and
- 13:24Speaker 1: blessed we are to be here in Singapore and Singaporean. Yes,
- 13:28Speaker 1: I mean, this is a personal observation. See if you
- 13:30Speaker 1: agree with me, OK.
- 13:32Speaker 1: Reading the news as of late, overseas happenings, we've got wars,
- 13:37Speaker 1: we've got government instability, we've got all these kind of
- 13:40Speaker 1: conflicts here and there, and then you bring it to Singapore.
- 13:43Speaker 1: What are we dealing with? What?
- 13:45Speaker 2: I'm scared.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Crows and dodgy massage
- 13:47Speaker 1: parlors.
- 13:49Speaker 2: Oh, you had to go there with the dodgy massage parlor. OK,
- 13:51Speaker 2: I mean,
- 13:51Speaker 1: it's
- 13:52Speaker 1: in the news again. Some new rules will be in play,
- 13:55Speaker 1: so I'm not too sure how this affects your land
- 13:57Speaker 1: and more established establishments as compared to your neighborhood ones
- 14:02Speaker 1: or the
- 14:04Speaker 2: You know there might
- 14:04Speaker 1: be, you know what I mean, yeah, yeah, yeah, to
- 14:07Speaker 1: the point where, I mean, the, I think it was
- 14:11Speaker 1: Tanjung Paga Plaza that once it made the news that
- 14:14Speaker 1: there were plenty of interesting massage parlors over there, they
- 14:17Speaker 1: almost cleared the whole thing out. Oh,
- 14:18Speaker 2: OK, wait, so what, what are the rules?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah, so, OK, I again, I'm not too familiar with
- 14:24Speaker 1: all these massage parlors.
- 14:26Speaker 1: OK, the only one I've been to was Nature Land.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Thanks for the clarification. Not that anyone asked, but now
- 14:32Speaker 2: that you're saying it sounds a bit sass.
- 14:34Speaker 1: And now the only massages I go for is a
- 14:36Speaker 1: sports massage at
- 14:37Speaker 2: Kallang Wave. I can help you do so. My elbow
- 14:40Speaker 2: is quite effective.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Never mind, it's OK.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Um, yeah, so apparently what open concept massage parlors, it
- 14:48Speaker 1: must stay open. You cannot have partitions or
- 14:51Speaker 1: rooms and all that,
- 14:52Speaker 2: OK, I get you. Like you know because Nature Land
- 14:55Speaker 2: actually is open concept. 000,
- 14:57Speaker 1: I had no idea because
- 14:58Speaker 2: you never go to Nature Land.
- 15:00Speaker 1: I went once.
- 15:01Speaker 2: You say you went there, you don't know there's an
- 15:03Speaker 2: open concept. I'm sure there's like a if you if
- 15:08Speaker 2: you choose to go like for a full body, which is,
- 15:11Speaker 2: you know, obviously you have to be more undressed, and
- 15:14Speaker 2: I think they have like the kwasha or the cupping stuff.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Most likely, you know, you have to take your shirt off,
- 15:19Speaker 2: but for the regular massage as open concept where it's
- 15:22Speaker 2: like 5 in 1, which is pretty much almost a
- 15:24Speaker 2: full body. It's just that you don't have to like.
- 15:26Speaker 2: Down on a bed. It's open concept. You leave your
- 15:28Speaker 2: clothes on. There's no such thing as taking your shirt
- 15:31Speaker 2: off or whatever. So yeah,
- 15:32Speaker 1: I
- 15:33Speaker 1: remember I went for a back massage at Nature Land.
- 15:37Speaker 2: Yes, that should be open concept.
- 15:38Speaker 1: It
- 15:38Speaker 1: was, it was. I could see everyone walking in and
- 15:40Speaker 1: out and all that.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Why you laugh?
- 15:43Speaker 2: Jo sounding like he's never been to Nature Land.
- 15:47Speaker 1: I've only been there
- 15:48Speaker 2: once. You can only be so defensive. It's OK.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Which outlet, which outlet? The one at Holland. Oh,
- 15:53Speaker 2: OK, next
- 15:54Speaker 1: to the bakery.
- 15:55Speaker 2: Ah yes, there is one at Holland. See, lucky you
- 15:58Speaker 2: know there's one at Holland. I am not guilty.
- 16:01Speaker 1: 87 C
- 16:07Speaker 1: That sound.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Good morning, 987. This is
- 16:10Speaker 2: Sophan here. Hello, Sufian, morning. How are you feeling, man?
- 16:13Speaker 2: I'm feeling good. Feeling lucky today. Alright, feeling good and
- 16:16Speaker 2: lucky is great because indeed you are lucky. The secret
- 16:20Speaker 2: buzzer just played.
- 16:21Speaker 1: You are the
- 16:22Speaker 1: winner.
- 16:24Speaker 2: What you're walking away with is this.
- 16:26Speaker 1: Sufian, our secret buzzer prize of the week was a
- 16:29Speaker 1: very nice 6 month anytime a membership to the ice
- 16:34Speaker 1: bath Club. Go there, get your.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Your saunas, get your salt bath and give your body
- 16:41Speaker 1: the recovery it needs, OK? Oh my God, thank you
- 16:43Speaker 1: so much. But you know what, Sufian, let's level up
- 16:46Speaker 1: your prizes today. You've won something worth 1,000+ already. How
- 16:51Speaker 1: about giving you $9000 in cold hard cash? Yeah.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Alright, listen very carefully. Here is your sound.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Sufian, for $9000 what is a 987 secret sound? It
- 17:05Speaker 1: sounds like a briefcase, a number lock briefcase that is
- 17:08Speaker 1: locking and unlocking sound of it.
- 17:11Speaker 2: You are
- 17:11Speaker 1: incorrect. Your chance to play 987's secrets.
- 17:18Speaker 1: That sound.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Sophia, not the answer we're looking for. Try again next time, OK?
- 17:24Speaker 1: But hey, congratulations. You're still walking away with the anytime
- 17:29Speaker 1: membership for 6 months to the Ice Bath Club.
- 17:31Speaker 2: Get
- 17:31Speaker 2: your wellness in. Enjoy. Thank
- 17:33Speaker 1: you.
- 17:35Speaker 1: So one guess win big.
- 17:40Speaker 1: What's that
- 17:40Speaker 1: sound?
- 17:42Speaker 2: Thanks for joining us. OK, so as of this week, um,
- 17:46Speaker 2: I consider both Joakim and I converts of the new
- 17:48Speaker 2: Meta AI glasses. Yeah. So a bit of context here,
- 17:51Speaker 2: I was sharing with Joakim that over the weekend, I
- 17:53Speaker 2: gave it a go and um was lucky enough to
- 17:55Speaker 2: give it a try on Saturday during a, a rave, actually,
- 17:59Speaker 2: like a music festival. The Palm Tree Festival. Yes, Palm
- 18:01Speaker 2: Tree Music Festival. So then Joel was asking me a
- 18:03Speaker 2: lot of questions and he was saying, do you think
- 18:05Speaker 2: I can use the Ray-Ban Meta AI for running? To
- 18:08Speaker 2: which I said, OK, I don't think the Ray-Ban.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Meta AI version will be suitable for running, but there's
- 18:15Speaker 2: another one done by Oakley that is also a collaboration
- 18:18Speaker 2: with Meta AI. So
- 18:20Speaker 1: I
- 18:20Speaker 1: actually went down, but disclaimer, yeah, because I'm, I'm of
- 18:23Speaker 1: the knowledge that there are a couple of personalities here
- 18:26Speaker 1: in Singapore doing campaigns with Ray-Ban and Oakley for the
- 18:29Speaker 1: Meta AI classes. I'm, I'm not, no, you're the only
- 18:32Speaker 1: one I knew for Ray-Ban. Oh, OK, Ray-Ban, yeah. And
- 18:34Speaker 1: then when I was scrolling through, uh, Instagram, I want
- 18:37Speaker 1: to give a shout out to beach volleyballer Eliza Chong. OK,
- 18:40Speaker 1: so she.
- 18:41Speaker 1: She's doing it. So I actually DM'ed her and I
- 18:42Speaker 1: asked her, Hey, how are the glasses like when you
- 18:45Speaker 1: run or jump? Do you feel it moving up and down?
- 18:47Speaker 1: And she tried
- 18:48Speaker 2: the Oakley one, right?
- 18:49Speaker 1: The Oakley ones that I got, the Oakley Vanguard. She said, no,
- 18:51Speaker 1: only when she dives for the
- 18:53Speaker 1: ball, it might movement slip once in a while.
- 18:55Speaker 2: I mean, with any eyewear, I guess there's no eyewear
- 18:58Speaker 2: that will perfectly not move unless it's goggles, right?
- 19:01Speaker 1: I was just thinking to myself, OK, should I make
- 19:03Speaker 1: this investment and do more content because I really find
- 19:06Speaker 1: it a hassle to film on my phone. Of course,
- 19:08Speaker 1: of course. It's really if you're running 15 km.
- 19:10Speaker 1: If you lift your phone up with the left hand
- 19:12Speaker 1: with the left or right hand, it's gonna be very sore.
- 19:14Speaker 1: So I actually bought it for $819 at Oakley Marina Basins.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It came with a free gift, by the way. Got
- 19:20Speaker 1: the coffee cup. Is it the one that you can
- 19:22Speaker 1: press and then extend it? Oh, like
- 19:24Speaker 1: a
- 19:25Speaker 2: flask or yeah, it's like rubber, right?
- 19:27Speaker 1: Yeah. So, it's in the studio with me now. I've
- 19:30Speaker 1: been terrorizing Sonia with it. I bought the red ones.
- 19:32Speaker 1: It's quite nice, so I cannot wait to run with
- 19:34Speaker 1: it and do more running content. But then when I
- 19:37Speaker 1: reviewed that I bought it at $819 OK.
- 19:40Speaker 1: I got a slew of DMs. People are saying, joking.
- 19:44Speaker 2: Why you buy it?
- 19:45Speaker 1: Why you
- 19:45Speaker 2: buy?
- 19:45Speaker 1: I should have gone overseas and buy. It's cheaper. Australia
- 19:48Speaker 1: is cheaper.
- 19:49Speaker 2: OK, wait, I can, can I, can I contribute here?
- 19:53Speaker 1: OK.
- 19:53Speaker 2: Recently, one of my close friends also said the same thing,
- 19:56Speaker 2: not in regards to the glasses, but to a luxury bag, OK,
- 20:00Speaker 2: and she thought about it for so long. Like I
- 20:03Speaker 2: even accompanied her, go to Singapore store to take a look,
- 20:05Speaker 2: try it, blah blah b.
- 20:06Speaker 2: After all that, right, a whole day of trying it
- 20:09Speaker 2: on different stores, she said, you know what, I think
- 20:11Speaker 2: I'm going to go to Taiwan, buy it because it's cheaper.
- 20:13Speaker 2: Then I said, but sis, you are flying there, you
- 20:16Speaker 2: have to pay for your air ticket.
- 20:18Speaker 1: That's my exact
- 20:18Speaker 1: response.
- 20:19Speaker 2: You, you then have to book your hotels, and then, yeah,
- 20:22Speaker 2: you save a few $100 with the luxury bag, but
- 20:26Speaker 2: you're paying even more to go to. Exactly. Then she said, OK,
- 20:30Speaker 2: in that case, I have to make a trip out
- 20:32Speaker 2: of it. I'm like, OK, hold on.
- 20:34Speaker 2: Unless you were already intending to go, then that makes sense.
- 20:37Speaker 2: But if you're making a whole trip out of it
- 20:39Speaker 2: just to get the bag or the item that you want.
- 20:41Speaker 2: I don't know if it makes
- 20:42Speaker 2: sense.
- 20:43Speaker 1: This is my exact response to those who DM me
- 20:45Speaker 1: the same thing, saying go overseas cheaper, but I'm like,
- 20:48Speaker 1: you're paying for your flight ticket and all that,
- 20:49Speaker 2: and you're not planning to go anywhere anytime soon. That's
- 20:54Speaker 2: the thing, yeah.
- 20:54Speaker 1: And the number one carpet of this same phrase buying
- 20:57Speaker 1: overseas cheaper, my mom, OK, 2 years ago in Italy, oh, Jo,
- 21:02Speaker 1: the Prada store. Oh, so cheap. Mommy, think about it.
- 21:06Speaker 1: We flew here,
- 21:07Speaker 2: yeah,
- 21:07Speaker 2: yeah, OK.
- 21:09Speaker 2: OK lah, but if I, if I went to, let's
- 21:12Speaker 2: say Milan or Paris or something, and you know, it
- 21:14Speaker 2: is well known for the Chanels and Diors of the world, OK,
- 21:18Speaker 2: maybe I might buy something there. OK,
- 21:19Speaker 1: Prada's first in Milan or something like that, right? OK, fashion,
- 21:23Speaker 1: but then I compared the prices between the Italian and
- 21:27Speaker 1: the Singaporean price. OK lah, there's a few 100.
- 21:31Speaker 1: Because
- 21:33Speaker 2: for a lot of luxury brands, they try and standardize to, to,
- 21:37Speaker 2: you know, make room for the FX difference. But anyway,
- 21:39Speaker 2: we digress. We want to open up the phone lines 669-11987.
- 21:43Speaker 2: Are you the kind of person, and by the way,
- 21:45Speaker 2: there's no right or wrong answer, are you the kind
- 21:48Speaker 2: of person
- 21:49Speaker 2: That if you lay your eyes on a, say, a
- 21:50Speaker 2: luxury item or something that's quite expensive, would you just
- 21:54Speaker 2: buy it here in Singapore, or would you wait and
- 21:56Speaker 2: see whether overseas might have a better deal? If it's cheaper,
- 22:01Speaker 2: you buy it overseas.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Because
- 22:02Speaker 1: cheaper overseas, but you must fly there. Yeah,
- 22:04Speaker 2: yeah. But if you're already going for a holiday, maybe
- 22:07Speaker 2: it makes sense. I'm switching the topic here today. We're
- 22:09Speaker 2: talking about whether
- 22:10Speaker 2: you would stay here in Singapore to get a luxury
- 22:13Speaker 2: good or would you wait till you go overseas because
- 22:16Speaker 2: the perception is always, oh, maybe certain places overseas might
- 22:20Speaker 2: be cheaper.
- 22:21Speaker 1: I think it's a very Singaporean mentality as well. Hey,
- 22:24Speaker 1: buy overseas. So, it's cheaper, it's
- 22:26Speaker 2: cheaper. But to me, if I really wanted an item
- 22:30Speaker 2: and I want it now.
- 22:31Speaker 2: I'll, I'll get it now, but OK, not because I
- 22:34Speaker 2: want to throw money or what, but I'm thinking I'm
- 22:37Speaker 2: also going to spend extra money on the flight ticket.
- 22:38Speaker 2: I've got to book hotels. Like in the end, you
- 22:41Speaker 2: come back, you may also have to, you know, pay
- 22:43Speaker 2: the GST fee or if you are declaring your items, right? Like, anyway, OK,
- 22:47Speaker 2: let's hit to messages first. WhatsApp? Let's see. Hello.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Uh, sorry, wait.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Are you seeing it right?
- 22:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I,
- 22:57Speaker 1: I got my name wrong. Joe, hello, Joe. Joe says, hey,
- 23:01Speaker 1: Sonia and Joakim, so here's my take. I'm the kind
- 23:04Speaker 1: of luxury shopper who lives with a spontaneous thrill. If
- 23:08Speaker 1: I spot something fabulous in a boutique and it makes
- 23:10Speaker 1: me feel amazing, I'm not waiting or prize hunting overseas.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I just slip it on right there and then. Retail
- 23:17Speaker 1: therapy should be a joyful in the moment affair. For me,
- 23:20Speaker 1: it's all about the instant spark, not overthinking.
- 23:23Speaker 1: It might be cheaper, just pure indulgence and wearing that
- 23:26Speaker 1: new treasure out the door.
- 23:28Speaker 2: Dude, I love that. I love that for you. But
- 23:30Speaker 2: also sometimes certain things, OK, I will say like if
- 23:33Speaker 2: you're getting a very expensive watch, for example, take your
- 23:36Speaker 2: time to think about it. Don't be too impulsive. Think,
- 23:40Speaker 2: think first. Yeah.
- 23:42Speaker 1: You know, it took me about 45 minutes yesterday to
- 23:46Speaker 1: decide on buying the Vanguard, but
- 23:48Speaker 2: that's different from like a Patek, right?
- 23:50Speaker 2: I said like a watch, I said a luxury watch.
- 23:54Speaker 1: Of course,
- 23:55Speaker 2: of course, yeah, but 800 versus 80,000 is a bit different, bro.
- 24:02Speaker 2: You got to think carefully with 80,000. In
- 24:04Speaker 1: this economy, 800 80,000,
- 24:08Speaker 2: 45 minutes to think about.
- 24:09Speaker 1: I walked up and down. The guy was like, OK,
- 24:11Speaker 1: come back later.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Alright, heading back to our messages first before we get
- 24:17Speaker 2: to on online right now. And the question is, when
- 24:20Speaker 2: it comes down to expensive items, would you rather just
- 24:23Speaker 2: buy it here in Singapore because you want it now?
- 24:26Speaker 2: Or would you really consider and wait because you might think, eh,
- 24:29Speaker 2: overseas might be cheaper, so maybe I should go overseas
- 24:32Speaker 2: and buy. That's your favorite
- 24:33Speaker 1: Singaporean phrase.
- 24:35Speaker 1: Overseas cheaper, yeah, yeah, OK, but are you ready to
- 24:38Speaker 1: be rage baited Sonia? Oh no, here we go. Want
- 24:41Speaker 1: to say good morning to AH who's gonna rage bait
- 24:44Speaker 1: you here on 987. Yeah, I would just buy it, lah,
- 24:47Speaker 1: not gonna compare with overseas prices. Why buy luxury with
- 24:51Speaker 1: a cheapskate mindset? Oh, do you feel the anger?
- 24:59Speaker 2: OK, I, I will say, aside from luxury items, you
- 25:03Speaker 2: know what is one other thing that a lot of
- 25:05Speaker 2: people go overseas for that they say is cheaper than Singapore?
- 25:08Speaker 2: Plastic surgery. You're right. OK, maybe not just plastic joke,
- 25:13Speaker 2: not a joke actually. Aesthetic procedures, um, yeah, plastic surgery,
- 25:17Speaker 2: I'm sure.
- 25:17Speaker 2: Coer and all that, they are, they could be cheaper
- 25:20Speaker 2: as well. So from what I know, my friends who
- 25:22Speaker 2: do like maybe lasers, Botox, fillers, you know, things like that, right? Um,
- 25:26Speaker 2: they've done a lot of research and they started quite
- 25:28Speaker 2: early on because they believe that it's preventive. And you
- 25:32Speaker 2: know what, if it's your belief and you know where
- 25:33Speaker 2: to go exactly, and you know that it's safe, fine.
- 25:36Speaker 2: But I, I'm always paranoid because when it comes to
- 25:39Speaker 2: anything that's related to like a medical procedure, um, not
- 25:43Speaker 2: that I've tried any invasive stuff ever before, but
- 25:46Speaker 2: I feel hesitant doing it overseas. Firstly, language barrier, although
- 25:51Speaker 2: I'm very well aware that places like Thailand and Korea
- 25:53Speaker 2: have great medical tourism now. But secondly, what if something
- 25:58Speaker 2: goes wrong and I already flew back to Singapore, then
- 26:00Speaker 2: I have to pay extra money to the Singaporean doctor
- 26:02Speaker 2: to fix it, you know what I mean? That's my mentality.
- 26:05Speaker 2: I'm a bit worried about that.
- 26:06Speaker 1: I mean, for me, I would feel safer seeing a
- 26:09Speaker 1: Singaporean doctor.
- 26:10Speaker 2: So you see, you pay a little bit more here
- 26:12Speaker 2: in Singapore for sure, right? But
- 26:14Speaker 2: I feel like we could be more protected by the
- 26:18Speaker 2: laws here. I don't know. I don't know. Please correct
- 26:20Speaker 2: me if I'm wrong when it comes to this aesthetic stuff.
- 26:22Speaker 1: Anyway, anonymous texter coming in today. Hey Sonia and Joakim,
- 26:26Speaker 1: as I travel for work quite frequently, I've been buying
- 26:29Speaker 1: luxury items, fashion items, and gadgets when I travel for work.
- 26:33Speaker 1: I even became transport mules for my family and friends.
- 26:37Speaker 1: Recently I got a bag from my friend at almost 1.20.
- 26:40Speaker 1: Cheaper in Amsterdam.
- 26:42Speaker 2: wow yeah I mean it is, it could be significantly cheaper,
- 26:46Speaker 2: especially for some
- 26:49Speaker 1: I'll see.
- 26:50Speaker 1: OK, when it comes to fashion bags, you know I'm
- 26:52Speaker 1: I'm clueless, but maybe more tech tech occasionally I'll go
- 26:57Speaker 1: into an Apple store overseas just to compare the prices
- 27:00Speaker 1: and all that.
- 27:01Speaker 2: I think one of the things that could really affect
- 27:04Speaker 2: the price would be the currency. So if Singapore dollar
- 27:07Speaker 2: is getting stronger and stronger, then yeah, maybe you could
- 27:10Speaker 2: be saving quite a lot.
- 27:20Speaker 1: So, what about you? I might as well get the item, right.
- 27:23Speaker 1: And I also like traveling a lot, so I make
- 27:25Speaker 1: it a point to travel at least once a month
- 27:27Speaker 1: to different places.
- 27:28Speaker 2: Wow, what? Ah,
- 27:31Speaker 1: yes, usually nearby because um I don't have enough leave
- 27:34Speaker 1: to travel further. So it's like Bangkok, Bali, maybe even sometimes.
- 27:40Speaker 1: Yes, correct. All these
- 27:41Speaker 2: places. So can I ask what was the last like
- 27:45Speaker 2: expensive item that you bought overseas?
- 27:48Speaker 1: I believe it was
- 27:50Speaker 1: an LV wallet I think cost about 1,000+.
- 27:53Speaker 2: And did it, did it give you joy when you
- 27:55Speaker 2: laid eyes on it?
- 27:57Speaker 1: Absolutely, I think I get absolute joy whenever I buy
- 28:00Speaker 1: a new item and that's something I need to control.
- 28:03Speaker 2: Oh, it's a dopamine hit,
- 28:05Speaker 1: yes, yes, that's why. How much would the LV wallet
- 28:08Speaker 1: cost in Singapore? I think at least about $1000 more.
- 28:12Speaker 2: Wow, seriously, really?
- 28:15Speaker 1: What the leather from the wallet made of a proper.
- 28:18Speaker 1: Premium
- 28:18Speaker 2: materials I wonder because maybe sometimes it differs from item
- 28:23Speaker 2: to item also like scarcity complex, right? I mean we
- 28:27Speaker 2: don't really have it here. Yeah.
- 28:30Speaker 2: I
- 28:31Speaker 2: think there are too many, Joe. You won't be able
- 28:33Speaker 2: to you won't be able to identify which one he bought.
- 28:34Speaker 2: There's way too many models. Thank you so much. You
- 28:37Speaker 2: have a great day, OK. Take care.
- 28:40Speaker 2: Love you too. Thank you. OK, back to the last
- 28:42Speaker 2: couple of messages here and Mel, who's hanging on the line.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Question for you today, when it comes to luxury goods
- 28:47Speaker 2: or expensive items, would you just buy it here in
- 28:50Speaker 2: Singapore for the instant gratification or if you heard that, oh,
- 28:53Speaker 2: maybe it's cheaper overseas, you wait and buy it overseas
- 28:57Speaker 1: instead? Saying good morning to Jolene. Jolene says, morning, Sonia
- 29:00Speaker 1: and Joakim. It's not even about traveling overseas to purchase.
- 29:03Speaker 1: Purchase something to save costs. It's also buying items from
- 29:06Speaker 1: the supermarket. Some supermarkets like the one in Ion is
- 29:09Speaker 1: selling kettle potato chips at about around 10% more than
- 29:13Speaker 1: the blue red logo ones. My partner and I were
- 29:16Speaker 1: in town and thought we could, we could get some snacks.
- 29:19Speaker 1: When we saw the price, he said it was expensive
- 29:21Speaker 1: and didn't want to make the purchase since he has
- 29:23Speaker 1: seen it for 2 times, or rather seen it 2
- 29:26Speaker 1: for the
- 29:27Speaker 1: 2 for the price of 1 elsewhere. There we go. OK.
- 29:30Speaker 1: I didn't think much about it and went ahead with
- 29:31Speaker 1: this plan to go to stop by another mallmart to
- 29:34Speaker 1: get it. Then it hit me. Taking public transport to
- 29:37Speaker 1: another mall, also spending extra what?
- 29:40Speaker 2: Basically you paid the same
- 29:42Speaker 1: amounts more than 10% for transport.
- 29:47Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, if you, if you have the ability
- 29:50Speaker 2: to do so, then yes. However, if I'm going to
- 29:54Speaker 2: the supermarket to buy like a lot of groceries, I'm
- 29:57Speaker 2: probably gonna go to the one at the neighborhood near
- 29:59Speaker 2: my house where it's cheaper, you know what I mean?
- 30:01Speaker 1: On that note of charging a little bit differently when
- 30:04Speaker 1: it comes to your food and stuff, right? I'm gonna
- 30:07Speaker 1: sound very uncle.
- 30:08Speaker 1: Taifeng and Marina Bay Sands priced differently and in Taifeng
- 30:11Speaker 1: at Junction 8 very different.
- 30:12Speaker 2: OK, hold on, because I think, um, likewise for the
- 30:15Speaker 2: Hai Tilau at Marina Bay Sands, OK, I'm not sure
- 30:18Speaker 2: about the price difference. Um, I will find out soon
- 30:20Speaker 2: because one of my friend's birthdays, but they do price,
- 30:24Speaker 2: they do market it as a Hai Tilao like premium.
- 30:27Speaker 2: So I think with the name alone, you would expect
- 30:30Speaker 2: maybe more premium ingredients or a bit more expensive.
- 30:33Speaker 1: So that isn't your heartland here in Singapore, you know.
- 30:36Speaker 1: Yeah a little
- 30:37Speaker 1: bit more. Exactly.
- 30:38Speaker 2: So we've got Mel on the line. OK, Mel, last
- 30:40Speaker 2: but not least, what about you? Um, I would just
- 30:43Speaker 2: grab it when I can in Singapore. That's right. OK,
- 30:46Speaker 2: so then? I think sometimes it's about treating yourself in the,
- 30:50Speaker 2: in the moment, uh, and the savings are sometimes illusory.
- 30:53Speaker 2: When you come back, you still have to pay 9% GST.
- 30:56Speaker 2: So that in a sense erodes whatever savings you imagine
- 30:59Speaker 2: you have.
- 31:00Speaker 1: Yeah, true. It's for those people who declare.
- 31:05Speaker 1: Because we know most don't, we
- 31:06Speaker 1: know.
- 31:08Speaker 2: Come on, yeah, it can be a tricky one. You
- 31:10Speaker 2: should because if you do get called for a spot
- 31:12Speaker 2: check or something, then you might be in trouble and
- 31:15Speaker 2: you might actually have to pay what, like I'm not
- 31:17Speaker 2: sure how much more could be fine, yeah, yeah. Um,
- 31:20Speaker 2: IRAS has a hotline where if you report someone for
- 31:23Speaker 2: not paying their tax and they are successfully prosecuted, um, you,
- 31:26Speaker 2: the informant, can get a reward based on the amount
- 31:29Speaker 2: of tax recovered.
- 31:30Speaker 1: I didn't know this.
- 31:33Speaker 1: Wow.
- 31:33Speaker 1: OK,
- 31:34Speaker 1: I didn't know this.
- 31:35Speaker 2: Joakim is on it right now. OK, before we wrap
- 31:39Speaker 2: things up, I wanted to share my own story. Here
- 31:41Speaker 2: we go. And uh we're talking about whether or not
- 31:44Speaker 2: you wait here in Singapore. I mean, sorry, you will
- 31:46Speaker 2: buy a luxury item here in Singapore or wait till
- 31:49Speaker 2: you go overseas to purchase it because it's cheaper. And
- 31:52Speaker 1: that's good.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Always the perception, right? Like, hey, why you do this
- 31:56Speaker 2: overseas luxury item cheaper. OK, never mind. This is related, OK, related.
- 32:01Speaker 2: So, um, a couple of years back, I went to Italy, OK,
- 32:05Speaker 2: for a trip, personal holiday. And on this holiday, uh,
- 32:08Speaker 2: one of my clients, which is a luxury bag brand,
- 32:11Speaker 2: actually wanted to tag on to that and say like, hey,
- 32:13Speaker 2: do you mind taking a few bags with you and
- 32:16Speaker 2: um we'll, we'll do this campaign, so you can just
- 32:18Speaker 2: shoot it overseas. It'll be nice. So I say, yes, OK, nice,
- 32:21Speaker 2: you know, artist manager.
- 32:22Speaker 2: Got in touch, sent the bags over and stuff. It's
- 32:24Speaker 2: on loan, right? So I brought the bags and because
- 32:27Speaker 2: these are still like real items, I was a little
- 32:30Speaker 2: bit paranoid. So I put it in my cabin luggage
- 32:33Speaker 2: so that it's always with me at all times. When
- 32:35Speaker 2: I came back to Singapore, as usual, you know me,
- 32:38Speaker 2: I got caught for a spot check lah, OK, nothing,
- 32:42Speaker 2: nothing surprises, yeah, yeah, I know. And sometimes they'll even
- 32:46Speaker 2: go like, hey, the DJ, right? You know, and they'll
- 32:48Speaker 2: still check my bag anyway, OK.
- 32:51Speaker 2: So this goes to show it doesn't make a difference, ah,
- 32:53Speaker 2: doesn't make a difference. Check my bag. I forgot that
- 32:56Speaker 2: in my cabin luggage there are all these luxury bags, right?
- 33:00Speaker 2: And it looks, OK, listen, but, but luxury bag. Hold on,
- 33:05Speaker 2: hold on, but it's, it's.
- 33:06Speaker 2: How do I even explain, right? I was like, the
- 33:08Speaker 2: context is that this is my client and they asked
- 33:10Speaker 2: me to shoot this, you know, overseas. That's why I'm
- 33:12Speaker 2: carrying all these bags. Then he said, Sorry, we've got
- 33:14Speaker 2: to open up and check, and I was like, oh
- 33:16Speaker 2: my God, like how do I prove this, right? Do
- 33:19Speaker 2: I have the loan form with me? I don't have
- 33:20Speaker 2: the loan form. Thankfully, in these bags, there's a label
- 33:25Speaker 2: in the, usually in the pocket or something that says sample,
- 33:28Speaker 2: not for sale. Thank goodness. OK, thank goodness. And now
- 33:32Speaker 2: I realized, oh, that's why they put it inside. They're
- 33:34Speaker 2: very important.
- 33:36Speaker 2: So yeah, I explain and I say, see, sample not
- 33:38Speaker 2: for sale. They say, oh, OK, OK, we understand.
- 33:40Speaker 1: OK, sounds like a TikTok video. But you know
- 33:44Speaker 2: what, the funny thing was it just didn't cross my mind, right?
- 33:46Speaker 2: Only when we got back and I realized what they
- 33:49Speaker 2: were checking for, then I was like, oh, OK, maybe
- 33:53Speaker 2: best if I scan.
- 33:54Speaker 2: Keep the loan form with me at all times. Yeah,
- 33:56Speaker 1: just, just keep it with you just in case for
- 33:58Speaker 1: your overseas travel or whatsoever. Thankfully,
- 34:00Speaker 2: you know, we had the, we had the tech inside.
- 34:02Speaker 2: But anyway, I digress. Hope you enjoyed that little story.
- 34:04Speaker 2: It's always about me getting stopped at the airport. Again,
- 34:07Speaker 1: I
- 34:07Speaker 2: new there. I mean,
- 34:08Speaker 1: are there pictures of your face looking panicky? No
- 34:10Speaker 2: of course you can't take photos there.
- 34:12Speaker 1: OK, for today's winner of the estate dining experience, all
- 34:15Speaker 1: thanks to our friends over at Hilton Singapore. Yeah, I
- 34:17Speaker 1: think let's give it to Bonn who called us earlier. Bjorn,
- 34:20Speaker 1: thank you very much.
- 34:21Speaker 2: Thank you for sharing your story. As always, all our
- 34:24Speaker 2: listeners make it very challenging for us to pick a
- 34:26Speaker 2: winner every morning. Yeah,
- 34:28Speaker 1: so, because you really volunteer your overseas services for your friends,
- 34:32Speaker 1: we thought we'd reward you with a very nice marker.
- 34:34Speaker 1: How
- 34:35Speaker 2: about that? Right, yeah, I hope you enjoy.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Yourself over at Estate at Hilton. Yes,
- 34:38Speaker 1: they got
- 34:38Speaker 1: a very nice Sunday social champagne brunch just launched, by
- 34:42Speaker 1: the way. If you love your Moet and Shandong, go
- 34:44Speaker 1: for it. Tua
- 34:45Speaker 2: Lipa living her best life, you know, ever since she,
- 34:48Speaker 2: I think she wrapped up her tour, right, as of
- 34:50Speaker 2: like a few months ago. She's
- 34:51Speaker 1: also getting married this year.
- 34:52Speaker 2: She's getting, she's a 2026 bride as well. She's racking
- 34:55Speaker 2: up all the ambassadorships everywhere, left, right, and center, and
- 34:58Speaker 2: Espresso being one of them. Hey, is this
- 34:59Speaker 1: year like a year for marriages?
- 35:02Speaker 2: What the year 2026?
- 35:03Speaker 1: I mean, like everyone's getting married.
- 35:05Speaker 2: There's dude, I don't know Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift,
- 35:08Speaker 1: Dua
- 35:09Speaker 2: Lipa. By the way, you were just telling me off
- 35:11Speaker 2: you got cut off earlier. Taylor Swift released some sort
- 35:14Speaker 2: of like a guest list.
- 35:16Speaker 1: No, no,
- 35:16Speaker 1: leaked it? OK, OK. Here's some celebrity gossip for you, OK,
- 35:19Speaker 1: you're live with us on 987. We're also live on TikTok,
- 35:21Speaker 1: by the way. Um, I didn't know this, but Taylor
- 35:24Speaker 1: Swift and Zoe Kravitz, they got beef.
- 35:26Speaker 1: Oh yeah, they were friends at one point and then
- 35:29Speaker 1: now they got beef. What?
- 35:30Speaker 2: So she's not invited
- 35:31Speaker 1: to. That's why we're wondering. And if Zoe Kravitz gets
- 35:34Speaker 1: invited to the wedding, is she allowed to bring her
- 35:37Speaker 1: plus one, who is Harry
- 35:38Speaker 2: Styles, Harry Styles. They are rumored to be engaged by
- 35:40Speaker 2: who used to date. Yeah, I know Taylor Swift, exactly.
- 35:44Speaker 1: So it's kind of like inviting your ex to a wedding.
- 35:47Speaker 2: Just kind of crazy, to be honest. I'm someone on
- 35:49Speaker 2: TikTok Live right now. We are also waiting for.
- 35:51Speaker 2: to get married in 2026.
- 35:53Speaker 1: It's not gonna happen. You can tuck,
- 35:56Speaker 2: by the way, you never know, you know, because I
- 35:57Speaker 2: feel like some people when they meet in a phase
- 35:59Speaker 2: of life where you're very sure of things, you don't
- 36:03Speaker 2: waste time.
- 36:04Speaker 1: So, knowing my horrible track record, if I propose to
- 36:07Speaker 1: anyone within 8 months, please slap me and kill me.
- 36:09Speaker 1: Please kick
- 36:10Speaker 1: me.
- 36:10Speaker 2: So you want me to be the voice of reason?
- 36:12Speaker 1: Yes, you're not only my voice of reason. You're my judge, jury,
- 36:14Speaker 1: and executioner.
- 36:16Speaker 2: This is starting to sound like I'm your only friend,
- 36:19Speaker 2: but it's true.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Interesting piece of news that I'm very sure we shared
- 36:24Speaker 1: about a few weeks ago. There's an update about the
- 36:27Speaker 1: defecating case over at the Punggol HDB staircase.
- 36:30Speaker 2: There's an update. Yes, like they found out why the
- 36:33Speaker 2: person did that
- 36:34Speaker 1: or what man has been charged. Oh, OK. Not just defecating,
- 36:38Speaker 1: there's a bit of urination as well.
- 36:40Speaker 1: So how it was captured was the neighbor left the
- 36:42Speaker 1: house and realized why is there like human remains, human
- 36:45Speaker 1: feces,
- 36:47Speaker 2: human feces
- 36:48Speaker 1: and all that. And then she checked the CCTV. She
- 36:51Speaker 1: saw everything in 4KHD.
- 36:54Speaker 2: Speaking of which, Joe, I have had an experience before
- 36:57Speaker 2: where I parked in a public car park. I'm not
- 36:59Speaker 2: gonna say where, OK. Might be quite relevant to us,
- 37:02Speaker 2: but somewhere.
- 37:04Speaker 2: Um, it was very early in the morning. I walked
- 37:07Speaker 2: up a flight of stairs, and I swear it was
- 37:11Speaker 2: human poop right there on the stairs.
- 37:13Speaker 1: You scared me for a bit. I thought you were
- 37:15Speaker 1: gonna about you having to go and you couldn't find
- 37:17Speaker 1: the toilet and all that.
- 37:18Speaker 2: OK, that one, never mind. It's not happened to me before.
- 37:21Speaker 2: I've always made it, but this one, I swear it's you,
- 37:23Speaker 2: it's not dog.
- 37:24Speaker 2: It's not from a dog for sure and I just
- 37:26Speaker 2: wondered what happened overnight in this particular car park that
- 37:29Speaker 2: we are familiar with.
- 37:30Speaker 1: I mean, if you are
- 37:31Speaker 1: captured on video, good luck. So I think apparently according
- 37:33Speaker 1: to our friends at NEA and the courts, he has
- 37:36Speaker 1: been fined $800 for defecating in public.
- 37:41Speaker 2: I'm hoping he doesn't do it again though. Please don't hoping.
