- 0:00This is Stephanie Maas.
- 0:01Today I wanna talk to my candidates about knowing your value in the marketplace.
- 0:06Inevitably, I'm always asked, "Hey, what, what is the market bearing in terms of compensation for somebody that's similar to me?" And again, this is information we have readily, readily available.
- 0:18I'm happy to share it, but there's more to it than that.
- 0:21Recently, I was talking with a candidate, and they said, "Hey, um, I've got some, you know, I'm, I'm having some issues with my current organization.
- 0:28I'm not sure I'm ready to go, but I'm thinking that it might be worth taking a look around." And I said to them, "You know what?
- 0:36I think if you're unhappy, you should always go find something better.
- 0:40Life's too short.
- 0:41However, with that being said, I think your timing might be off a little bit with the market." And what I was sharing with them is that while their skill set really was valuable, it wasn't what the market was demanding at the time. I said, "I absolutely think this is gonna change.
- 1:01We see it ebb and flow all the time.
- 1:03But unless you are absolutely miserable, and you just have got to go, you may wanna wait or just realize that your search may take a little bit of time." So I wanted to share that counsel with you.
- 1:16Yes, I think it's very important to know, are you, from a compensation point, you know, are you congruent with what the market's bearing?
- 1:23But on the flip side, you have to have a sense for, hey, is my current skill set in demand and at high value in the marketplace?
- 1:33A very simple and easy way to know this, are you getting a ton of recruiter calls?
- 1:37And, uh, do they have searches that they're trying to recruit you for?
- 1:40That's the simplest way.
- 1:42If you're not, again, it doesn't mean that your skill set's not valuable.
- 1:46It just may not be with the market today.
