- 0:00Speaker 1: Oh my god, survival he hit him.
- 0:07Speaker 2: This goes on for a while.
- 0:09Speaker 3: Call mea kill joy, but I think that because this
- 0:12Speaker 3: is not to my taste, no one else should be
- 0:15Speaker 3: able to enjoy it.
- 0:16Speaker 4: Fourfinger Discount dude.
- 0:34Speaker 5: Welcome to four figure Discount, where this week we are
- 0:36Speaker 5: reviewing episode three of season twenty one. It is a
- 0:40Speaker 5: great wife Hope. I'm Dando and I am guy. He
- 0:42Speaker 5: is Welcome to the podcast that never taps out.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It never does. Indeed, we felt like it from time
- 0:46Speaker 2: to time. Oh yeah, it is a podcast. Work can
- 0:50Speaker 2: be hard relatively early on a Wednesday morning, it's actually no,
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm I'm feeling pumped. I feeling supernatural to supernatural Tuesday,
- 0:58Speaker 2: even though it's a Wednesday.
- 1:00Speaker 5: I was telling you yesterday that I'm eating better, at
- 1:01Speaker 5: exercising more and just getting extra sleep. But I was
- 1:04Speaker 5: saying to you the big thing for me was I
- 1:06Speaker 5: was drinking too much Pepsi max. And even though it's
- 1:07Speaker 5: no sugar Pepsi max, it's still syrup in water. Of
- 1:11Speaker 5: course it's not good for you. So now I'm just
- 1:14Speaker 5: drinking a lot more water, and it's like, oh shit,
- 1:16Speaker 5: whatever everything they always said to you, good foods healthy
- 1:19Speaker 5: diet and water.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Unfortunately, you do have to maintain that for an ongoing
- 1:25Speaker 2: kind of period for it to actually have those positive effects.
- 1:28Speaker 5: But but we're getting there baby steps, of course, yeah,
- 1:31Speaker 5: of course, of course.
- 1:31Speaker 2: I mean I've said this to you many times. I
- 1:33Speaker 2: mean I relapse all the time, but every once in
- 1:37Speaker 2: a while I was sort of go on a bit
- 1:38Speaker 2: of a kick like, oh yeah, eating better, moving the body, hydrating. Wow,
- 1:44Speaker 2: they actually do work.
- 1:45Speaker 5: Yes, indeed, Well, thank you to everyone who was watching
- 1:47Speaker 5: us on YouTube right now watching us, make sure you
- 1:50Speaker 5: give us a subscribe, give us a thumbs up, and
- 1:52Speaker 5: come and blow and tell us what you think of
- 1:53Speaker 5: the review you're about to hear of the Great Wife.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Hope.
- 1:55Speaker 5: Now, as an MMA fan or not anymore, I've gone
- 1:57Speaker 5: way from now becoming a dad. You can't watch you
- 2:00Speaker 5: see around with the kids. It's just when I was
- 2:01Speaker 5: a teen, like say, late teens, early twenties, UFC was
- 2:05Speaker 5: a big deal. And when this episode aired back in
- 2:07Speaker 5: two thousand and nine, I was a big MMA fan
- 2:09Speaker 5: from say seven to so maybe eleven. That's when I
- 2:12Speaker 5: was a really big run into MA. It's when it
- 2:13Speaker 5: was really starting to hit its peak and I thought
- 2:15Speaker 5: this episode did a good job of doing satire on
- 2:19Speaker 5: UFC or MMA in general. But also it didn't. It
- 2:22Speaker 5: wasn't quite realistic, not that realistic satire should be realistic.
- 2:26Speaker 5: But iatched it and enjoyed it, and then I listened,
- 2:28Speaker 5: I've read what Dana White, the owner of UFC said,
- 2:32Speaker 5: or the CEO did you already said on Wikipedia why
- 2:35Speaker 5: he didn't like it? So he wrote, well, he said
- 2:38Speaker 5: the president of the president issues and you know, the
- 2:39Speaker 5: president of Ultimate Fighting Championship. He told reporters that he
- 2:43Speaker 5: when the episode aired that he did not like the episode.
- 2:45Speaker 5: He added, people like the MMA media always try to
- 2:48Speaker 5: tell me what that were mainstream. Did you see that
- 2:50Speaker 5: Simpsons episode. Chuck Ladale, who's in the episode, he was
- 2:53Speaker 5: a big start at the time. He signs an autograph
- 2:56Speaker 5: for somebody and he says that'll be forty five dollars.
- 2:58Speaker 5: He actually says twenty five dollars. That'll be forty five
- 3:00Speaker 5: dollars please. The sport doesn't like that at all. Then
- 3:02Speaker 5: the promoter of the show fights Marge Simpson and the
- 3:04Speaker 5: octagne sucker punches are in the face and then says,
- 3:07Speaker 5: you're the only woman I've ever hit that I didn't
- 3:08Speaker 5: love that's the way mainstream looks at us and thinks
- 3:11Speaker 5: of us. And you know that, Oh it's got a
- 3:13Speaker 5: good point because I know the being the women's side
- 3:18Speaker 5: of things. It's like, that's one story, but just the
- 3:20Speaker 5: whole the promoter getting into the octagone to fight March,
- 3:23Speaker 5: that's more pro wrestling. And I did read that he
- 3:26Speaker 5: was more of a portrayal of Vince McMahon as opposed
- 3:28Speaker 5: to Dana White. So I think they kind of got
- 3:30Speaker 5: the world's a bit blurred there.
- 3:32Speaker 2: It does sound that way, and I think there was
- 3:34Speaker 2: probably a bit of a conflation of all those things. Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 2: saying I think any sort of contextport, any violent contextport
- 3:41Speaker 2: was generally regarded as you know, all of one piece,
- 3:43Speaker 2: whether it was boxing, wrestling, or in even though the
- 3:47Speaker 2: three things are sort of completely different and seem to
- 3:49Speaker 2: have completely different cultures in a lot of ways. So yeah, look,
- 3:53Speaker 2: White's got a point.
- 3:54Speaker 5: I guess there's a lot different now because I feel
- 3:57Speaker 5: like you, back in two thousand and nine, that was
- 3:58Speaker 5: a very valid statement. UFC was trying to very much
- 4:01Speaker 5: still steer clear of we are not pro wrestling, we
- 4:04Speaker 5: are the opposite.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Were more real.
- 4:06Speaker 5: Well, that's the thing where I feel like in twenty
- 4:08Speaker 5: twenty five, you're watching it and combat sports have become
- 4:10Speaker 5: a gimmick. We've got Mike Tyson coming out of retirement,
- 4:12Speaker 5: Jake Balls fighting whoever he wants to fight. Isn't it
- 4:14Speaker 5: kind of agregor didn't he fight Mayweather? That I vaguely
- 4:18Speaker 5: recall that.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, it seemed boxing in particularly has become very gimmicky. Yeah,
- 4:24Speaker 2: boxing was seemingly dying on the vin Unfortunately, it seemed
- 4:27Speaker 2: like UFC and MMA was really taking its spot. At
- 4:31Speaker 2: no one watched boxing anymore my age at the time,
- 4:33Speaker 2: when I was early twenties. Well, and I think Tyson's
- 4:36Speaker 2: the one who said he was the one who actually sort
- 4:39Speaker 2: of gave Jake Baulls the one who boxes, right Logan
- 4:42Speaker 2: the wrestler.
- 4:43Speaker 5: Yeah, they're doing well for themselves, man. Yeah, they appreciate
- 4:47Speaker 5: the hustle at least. Yeah, I guess, so you can
- 4:50Speaker 5: do that.
- 4:52Speaker 2: The wrestling, she's genuinely good at it.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Oh.
- 4:55Speaker 2: Look, they're putting in the hours, there's no two ways
- 4:56Speaker 2: about that. And the Yeah, the master market, there's good.
- 4:58Speaker 2: More power to them for that, I guess. But yeah,
- 5:00Speaker 2: Tyson is certainly one who said he gave Jake Paul
- 5:04Speaker 2: his props because you know, he's getting eyes on boxing
- 5:07Speaker 2: again because MMA was very much taking spot and so
- 5:10Speaker 2: and succeeding boxing as the premiere sort of punching sport.
- 5:16Speaker 2: I guess, you know, wrestling feels very much like its
- 5:19Speaker 2: own thing in its own corner. It's more sports entertainment
- 5:22Speaker 2: than sport. Your miles made vary on that when you know, when,
- 5:26Speaker 2: depending on how you feel about it, they're athletes, but
- 5:28Speaker 2: it's a pantomime. Oh yeah, certainly, you know it's got
- 5:31Speaker 2: all these storylines and everything like that. All sports have
- 5:33Speaker 2: their storylines. But yeah, wrestling feels very much in that
- 5:36Speaker 2: in that way. Look, yeah, as I said, why it's
- 5:38Speaker 2: got a point, I guess. I mean I'm not as
- 5:42Speaker 2: well versed in MMA as you are. I was really surprised.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Not long ago, a group of friends and I went out.
- 5:47Speaker 2: We were going to watch the Cats play at some.
- 5:51Speaker 5: Bar intent which is, for those who unaware, a local
- 5:54Speaker 5: Australians football team.
- 5:56Speaker 2: We weren't actually just going to go watch kittens, although
- 5:58Speaker 2: that it would be much bad, that was like, can
- 6:00Speaker 2: we just did that? Guards everyone can enjoy that. We
- 6:05Speaker 2: end up going to a local bar in town, a
- 6:07Speaker 2: sports bar, and it was all MMA all the time.
- 6:10Speaker 2: It was on every screen. One of our friends used
- 6:14Speaker 2: to be a cop now he works as a prison
- 6:16Speaker 2: officer and he was like, there's bad vibes and he
- 6:17Speaker 2: were leaving because yeah, he was just like this honestly
- 6:21Speaker 2: could go from the screen to real life any second.
- 6:24Speaker 2: I felt like that.
- 6:25Speaker 5: We have a local venue called the Sporting Globe here
- 6:27Speaker 5: in Geelong and we used to frequent it all the time.
- 6:29Speaker 5: He used to like it and then UFC, paper, Vistakeet
- 6:31Speaker 5: and bigger and he'd go there on a Sunday and
- 6:33Speaker 5: it's just a bunch of young dudes with neck tattoo's
- 6:35Speaker 5: just big on everywhere, screaming and came and like, oh,
- 6:38Speaker 5: I mean they're getting old or is this just doesn't
- 6:40Speaker 5: feel safe?
- 6:40Speaker 2: Well, the first thing, yeah, the risk of putting a
- 6:42Speaker 2: Cai bosh on a sponsorship. It was the Sporting Clock
- 6:45Speaker 2: that we left quite immediately. Now we went to another
- 6:47Speaker 2: place that also had big screens a lot of sport
- 6:50Speaker 2: being on and they eventually switched over the football. But
- 6:53Speaker 2: when we got there it was all MMA and I'm like,
- 6:55Speaker 2: it's the it's these sport now for young people. Yeah. Yeah,
- 6:58Speaker 2: having said that, I mean, look, maybe I'm just old,
- 7:00Speaker 2: maybe out of touch, he says, maybe, I don't think
- 7:04Speaker 2: I could name check any sort of premiere. In MMA Final,
- 7:07Speaker 2: there's Colin McGregor. I guess he's the most high profile.
- 7:10Speaker 5: Back when this episode aired, though, they were big names.
- 7:13Speaker 5: But also I think I've just gotten out of touch
- 7:15Speaker 5: with the with the with the with MMA in itself.
- 7:18Speaker 5: But it did feel at this point in time two
- 7:20Speaker 5: thousand and nine that the big stars of the UFC
- 7:22Speaker 5: UFC sorry sorry, were mainstream stars and people knew who
- 7:26Speaker 5: Chuck Ladell was and Rampage Jackson. Because they were they
- 7:31Speaker 5: felt bigger than what they also the UFC. Now, is
- 7:34Speaker 5: this the problem with sport in general is it's very
- 7:37Speaker 5: diblute to there is just so much of everything. Well,
- 7:39Speaker 5: so like cricket, for example, there's just so much cricket
- 7:42Speaker 5: going on. Obviously there's big stars of cricket, but it's
- 7:44Speaker 5: hard to keep up with everything.
- 7:45Speaker 2: Well that's true. I mean, look, I was never a
- 7:47Speaker 2: cricket guy, for instance, but growing up it's like, oh,
- 7:50Speaker 2: I know who Dennis Lily is, I know who Rod
- 7:51Speaker 2: marsh is. Look at the history books kids there. But
- 7:53Speaker 2: I mean these were Jeff Thompson. These were like Australian heroes,
- 7:58Speaker 2: whereas now it's like, I guess there's Pack Cummings. Pack
- 8:00Speaker 2: Comings is a his huge star. Man, you doesn't watch
- 8:02Speaker 2: cricket anymore, but yeah, he's the one that I know.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there's no it doesn't know
- 8:06Speaker 5: there's any Warnings anymore, that's true. Yeah, so who transcends
- 8:10Speaker 5: the sport? My Pack Commings is a huge star. But
- 8:14Speaker 5: if I said to my mom, who's Pack coming, she'd
- 8:15Speaker 5: probably go, I've heard the name.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Yeah, but she.
- 8:18Speaker 5: Doesn't watched cricket, you know where my mom would know
- 8:21Speaker 5: who Shane Warned because everyone just knew who Shane war was. Yeah,
- 8:24Speaker 5: America listeners are going, who the hall of Shane warn.
- 8:27Speaker 2: He's like Cricket's Tom Brady.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Yeahah exactly, so rest in Peace warning, Yes exactly. But yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 5: so this episode here we had this the MMA vibe.
- 8:35Speaker 5: It was nice seeing them take them Mickey, I guess
- 8:37Speaker 5: out of something that felt relevant at the time, and
- 8:39Speaker 5: I thought it did a pretty good job. Dana white Wood,
- 8:41Speaker 5: he said, aside, I do think the story served us purpose.
- 8:45Speaker 5: I think They did a good job with Marge being
- 8:47Speaker 5: able to kick ass but also stay true to herself. Yeah,
- 8:50Speaker 5: even though we've kind of seen these stories before, So
- 8:54Speaker 5: Itchy and Scratchy versus Marge with season two, that's where
- 8:58Speaker 5: she wants to take down the tune show. That's pretty
- 9:01Speaker 5: much what this is. I want to take down. If
- 9:03Speaker 5: I don't enjoy it, no one il should be able to.
- 9:04Speaker 2: It's all. It's all summed up in the line call
- 9:07Speaker 2: me a kill joy. But because this is not to
- 9:08Speaker 2: my taste, no one else should be able to enjoy it. It
- 9:11Speaker 2: was my favorite moments. I thought was a good line.
- 9:12Speaker 2: One of my favorite moments as well.
- 9:14Speaker 5: Yeah, and that was very much the Itchy and Scratchy
- 9:16Speaker 5: versus March episode from season two. Then we have like
- 9:18Speaker 5: the Homer Day four which we reviewed with Cool Cabanna,
- 9:20Speaker 5: fellow pro wrestler, the Homer boxing episode where it's just
- 9:24Speaker 5: a very similar thing where it's a big fight built up.
- 9:26Speaker 5: The family are worried about March in this one, Homer
- 9:28Speaker 5: and that one and something saved the day blah blah
- 9:30Speaker 5: blah blah. At least in that one there Homer gets rescued,
- 9:33Speaker 5: March wins essentially, he sure, it's a motherly love that
- 9:37Speaker 5: sort of is the saving grace and.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Mama bear instant. You always hear those stories about ripperdor
- 9:43Speaker 2: for car or yeah, it's like, oh much, I was
- 9:44Speaker 2: trapped on a car and I found the strength to
- 9:46Speaker 2: lift the car.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, so, and I thought it was a good job.
- 9:49Speaker 5: Was just that final scene as ridiculous as I was
- 9:51Speaker 5: that the owner of this sport was going to be
- 9:53Speaker 5: in the octagon and everyone's just cheering it.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I mean you're very part wrestling. You mentioned
- 9:58Speaker 2: Dana White though as well. I mean, was he previously
- 10:00Speaker 2: a fighter? Never? He's never been.
- 10:02Speaker 5: He's never. I mean he's ripped and stuff, like, he
- 10:05Speaker 5: looks like a big guy, it's fit, but he's not.
- 10:06Speaker 5: He's never been a fighter. He's never He's deliberately said,
- 10:08Speaker 5: I'm never going to be Evince McMahon in that rega.
- 10:11Speaker 5: I'm not going to be going I'm the star.
- 10:14Speaker 2: That's probably a good lesson to live by.
- 10:17Speaker 5: But he's also done some bashit in his life there
- 10:18Speaker 5: and White but whatever you want to say about that.
- 10:20Speaker 5: But the thing is, he's not going to be on
- 10:22Speaker 5: the poster. He's he's not Baty, Bob, Daniel whe or whatever.
- 10:25Speaker 5: But it's not He's not going to be Dana White
- 10:27Speaker 5: versus anybody. Probably wise on hundred percent, you can't take
- 10:30Speaker 5: the sport seriously if you're not gonna be putting serious
- 10:32Speaker 5: competitors in the ring.
- 10:33Speaker 2: I think it wanted to take I think from very
- 10:36Speaker 2: early on, this is a sport that wanted to be
- 10:38Speaker 2: regarded as a as a sports, as more sport than entertainment.
- 10:43Speaker 5: Do you know how it kicked off? You've c so
- 10:45Speaker 5: it'd been around for a long time, and I remember
- 10:48Speaker 5: it used to be very basic, right and throughout the nineties,
- 10:50Speaker 5: it was just like, what is this ultimate fighting Championship?
- 10:53Speaker 2: For mine? It was always kind of like, because I'm
- 10:55Speaker 2: viewing light through the lens of pop culture, and you'd
- 10:58Speaker 2: see a lot of B movies where it's like like,
- 11:00Speaker 2: you know, oh, they're fighting in the octagon, but it
- 11:02Speaker 2: was al always very underground. It was always like you'd
- 11:05Speaker 2: have a boxer who killed someone in the ring or something.
- 11:07Speaker 2: It's like, couldn't get real fights anymore, so we had
- 11:10Speaker 2: to go fight underground in the octagon or something.
- 11:12Speaker 5: They took the mickey out of it in Friends as well.
- 11:14Speaker 5: One of Monica's boyfriends, John Favreu, Yeah, want to start.
- 11:17Speaker 5: He wants to be an Ultimate Fighting I want to
- 11:18Speaker 5: be an Ultimate Fighter.
- 11:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, and it had it had that sort of
- 11:21Speaker 2: not necessarily outlaw cash. It was. It was more hardcore. Yeah,
- 11:25Speaker 2: it's like, sure, you can box, but that's I'm being
- 11:29Speaker 2: very dismissive, and yeah it's boxing, you got rules, you know,
- 11:34Speaker 2: this is about survival of the fitter. It felt more primal.
- 11:37Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and look I may be mistaken that, but yeah,
- 11:40Speaker 2: you're right in that, friends, and that's something that certainly helped,
- 11:43Speaker 2: I won't say necessarily bring it into the mainstream, but
- 11:45Speaker 2: give it a little more prominence.
- 11:46Speaker 5: What it was that kicked it off was that when
- 11:48Speaker 5: I was in my teens, this show called The Ultimate
- 11:50Speaker 5: Fighter started, which when reality shows were just sort of fresh,
- 11:53Speaker 5: and it was just you know, they they it was
- 11:55Speaker 5: so genius. I'm pretty sure Dana what was the man
- 11:57Speaker 5: behind it. But basically they would have two teams competing
- 11:59Speaker 5: that a professional fighter who's like the captain and whatever,
- 12:03Speaker 5: and the other professional fighter. He picked his team and
- 12:05Speaker 5: they would train these guys up. But they would create
- 12:07Speaker 5: personalities because you get to know them because it's a
- 12:09Speaker 5: reality show. So and then the winners of the UFS
- 12:11Speaker 5: of these shows were going to the UFC, and that's
- 12:13Speaker 5: how they formed relationships with the viewer and they turned
- 12:16Speaker 5: these unknowns into stars. Where now there's just so much content.
- 12:20Speaker 5: Where we all sat down and watched this one show
- 12:22Speaker 5: that The Ultimate Fighter, so we all got to know
- 12:24Speaker 5: the same people. Now there's just so much content to
- 12:26Speaker 5: put out there. It's hard to keep tracking for your
- 12:28Speaker 5: favorites and what nott of thing. But the Ultimate Fighter
- 12:30Speaker 5: reality series, that is what spawned the UFC into what
- 12:33Speaker 5: it is today, which.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Is pretty savvy. What similar to is it Drive to Survive?
- 12:37Speaker 2: What's the way? Yeah? The Formula one one? Yeah? Well yeah,
- 12:39Speaker 2: I mean everyone says that. Now that's the one that
- 12:42Speaker 2: really brought it. Every One was always popular, of course,
- 12:46Speaker 2: but this really mainstream Yeah made it cool.
- 12:49Speaker 5: Yeah, because all my mates or suddenly playing F one
- 12:51Speaker 5: on the play session, I was like, you guys have
- 12:53Speaker 5: never been interested in cars? Have you seen Drive to Survive?
- 12:55Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, it's the Ultimate Fighter, but in car
- 12:58Speaker 5: form likewise, I mean, yeah, Netflix, the Netflix effect has
- 13:01Speaker 5: been incredible in a lot of ways.
- 13:03Speaker 2: I mean, whether it was full swing with goal for
- 13:06Speaker 2: it was a break point the tennis one. Yeah, because
- 13:09Speaker 2: they know the break point actually got me more into tennis.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I mean, of course I knew it, I knew it existed.
- 13:14Speaker 5: But how many how many tennis players did you know
- 13:17Speaker 5: before watching that? And now did you know after?
- 13:19Speaker 2: Which? Yeah, you know what I mean. He gets even
- 13:22Speaker 2: in the Brad Pitt movie F one, Yeah, I think
- 13:25Speaker 2: you have a character name check and said like, oh yeah,
- 13:28Speaker 2: I watched her up to Survive. I know what's going on.
- 13:29Speaker 5: So yeah, because yeah, it became the cool thing. But
- 13:32Speaker 5: I just thought, yeah, they did a good job of
- 13:34Speaker 5: Marge getting to kick ass. He was still say true
- 13:36Speaker 5: to herself. But I was not surprised that Carolyn Amine.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Wrote this episode go Sound.
- 13:40Speaker 5: I was like, ah, now, I know. It does feel
- 13:43Speaker 5: like a very Carolyn Amine episode. She's very good at
- 13:45Speaker 5: Tally March stories and particularly the relationship with Marge and
- 13:49Speaker 5: Bart and being a mother herself. A lot of her
- 13:51Speaker 5: best episodes are ones where Marge and but have some
- 13:54Speaker 5: sort of like disagreement or whether she's just he's doing
- 13:56Speaker 5: something for her or she's doing something for him, and
- 13:58Speaker 5: in this episode, it was she trying to do something
- 14:00Speaker 5: for the kids. So I'm trying to get rid of
- 14:01Speaker 5: the UFC because she wants to have a safer future
- 14:04Speaker 5: for them, but as a result of her love for Bart,
- 14:06Speaker 5: that is what drives her to success of course.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Yeah, he my favorite.
- 14:11Speaker 5: Yeah, favorite moments in the episode. You mentioned one before
- 14:13Speaker 5: you're quote necessactly it's the first thing I call me
- 14:15Speaker 5: the children. But I think that this is since this
- 14:17Speaker 5: is not my taste, no one el should be able
- 14:18Speaker 5: to enjoy it. That you can apply that approach to
- 14:20Speaker 5: nearly everybody.
- 14:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's really clever by Caroline as well
- 14:23Speaker 2: in writing that line. If it actually is hers, I mean,
- 14:26Speaker 2: you know, as we've always said, Yeah, it goes to
- 14:29Speaker 2: the room. Everyone has the two cents to the.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Potter that that feels like a line though that was
- 14:34Speaker 5: from the beginning. Yeah, it's good sort of having it
- 14:37Speaker 5: both ways as well, because it does it indicates a
- 14:40Speaker 5: slight level of self righteousness, not necessarily hypocrisy.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah. Fox had its issues back in the early days,
- 14:47Speaker 2: the Fox Network, Children with Mary Children all that. You know,
- 14:50Speaker 2: I had people writing letters saying you should not advertise
- 14:52Speaker 2: in the show because it sucks, Like okay, just because
- 14:55Speaker 2: you thinks it sucks. I mean, other people really enjoying it.
- 14:58Speaker 5: I find it with Friends, right, I was. I liked
- 15:00Speaker 5: watching Friends with my mother when I was younger than
- 15:01Speaker 5: I sort of out grow Friends.
- 15:03Speaker 2: It wasn't I wasn't cool.
- 15:04Speaker 5: I was like, I'm not watching Friends, I'm watching sign Fund,
- 15:06Speaker 5: I'm watching something else. Right, And now I tell people
- 15:08Speaker 5: I'm doing a Friends podcast, and it's either there's only
- 15:11Speaker 5: two responses.
- 15:12Speaker 2: To that statement.
- 15:12Speaker 5: I do a Friends podcast with my wife. I love Friends.
- 15:15Speaker 5: Oh god, I can't stand Friends. And the people who say, god,
- 15:18Speaker 5: how could you watch that?
- 15:19Speaker 2: It's but the people who are saying are they saying
- 15:21Speaker 2: can't stand it because they think it's naff or uncool
- 15:24Speaker 2: or because they're offended by a certain ninety stereot.
- 15:27Speaker 5: And that's not that, it's just that they don't find
- 15:28Speaker 5: it funny. It's so stupid, it's so it's ridiculous. It
- 15:30Speaker 5: say its bottle of the barrel comedy, and I'm like,
- 15:33Speaker 5: in some ways I watch it, I go, this is
- 15:34Speaker 5: very cliche, stereotypical comedy, right, very mainstream. It's also the
- 15:39Speaker 5: very most successful sitcom of all time, arguably, you know
- 15:41Speaker 5: what I mean.
- 15:43Speaker 2: So that's kind of a shortcut to thinking that those people.
- 15:45Speaker 2: A lot of people do tell that approach.
- 15:46Speaker 5: Like I said, whenever I say we do a Friends podcast,
- 15:49Speaker 5: oh god, I can't stand friends. It's oh I love friends.
- 15:51Speaker 5: There's no my friends is all right? It's always love
- 15:54Speaker 5: or hate.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Look, I'm not I'm certainly not going to be doing
- 15:56Speaker 2: a Friends podcast. I'm not that much of a super
- 15:59Speaker 2: fan of it. But I mean, you'd have to be
- 16:01Speaker 2: some kind of idiot recognized this is actually very well made,
- 16:04Speaker 2: mainstream sitcom.
- 16:07Speaker 5: And that's what I was one of those people. I'm like,
- 16:09Speaker 5: I'm not watching Friends right where I now watching it?
- 16:13Speaker 5: When the podcast we do with Nicola, check it out.
- 16:15Speaker 5: It's also averb on our YouTube channel now film in
- 16:17Speaker 5: the show. But Nikola, she is a super fan. She
- 16:20Speaker 5: loves Friends ever since I've known, and she's just been
- 16:21Speaker 5: not the number one Friends fan. I take the approach
- 16:24Speaker 5: of I more appreciate what I'm what I'm seeing here.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I'm like, I can I sort of review the way
- 16:28Speaker 5: it's put together. When Nicola's like, how funny are the jokes,
- 16:30Speaker 5: I'm like, you see the way Matthew Perry set it up?
- 16:33Speaker 2: Though, you know?
- 16:34Speaker 5: And also Friends, I find I be a friends podcast,
- 16:37Speaker 5: but if a tease but Friends, I find was actually
- 16:39Speaker 5: very much ahead of the times when it comes to
- 16:41Speaker 5: things of talking about gay weddings and that kind of
- 16:43Speaker 5: stuff and sex when it comes to women's sex life,
- 16:47Speaker 5: putting it out there and not even trying to say, oh,
- 16:50Speaker 5: women can have sex too, just normalizing it. Sure, this
- 16:53Speaker 5: is women, women have sex too.
- 16:55Speaker 2: That's it.
- 16:55Speaker 5: It's not it's not oh, how great is it that
- 16:57Speaker 5: women having sex. It's just a women just having sex
- 16:59Speaker 5: and they've got a sex life, and it's like, oh,
- 17:00Speaker 5: this is just this is life. Yeah, I'm being very
- 17:03Speaker 5: impressed with Friends so far. But yeah, again impressed with
- 17:05Speaker 5: Carolyn Mean. I think she does a great job. I
- 17:07Speaker 5: think she's arguably my favorite Simpsons writer. I always enjoy
- 17:11Speaker 5: and I never read who the writers before we watch
- 17:13Speaker 5: the new ones, but I want to go in with that.
- 17:14Speaker 5: And then when I saw it, I was like, this
- 17:16Speaker 5: did feel like a I did enjoy this. I think
- 17:18Speaker 5: being someone who lived through and was a fan of
- 17:20Speaker 5: UFC at the time, I appreciated the satire as well.
- 17:22Speaker 5: I know you were never really an MA fan, so
- 17:24Speaker 5: I'm not sure whether this would have appealed to you much.
- 17:26Speaker 2: But I was like, oh, shit had done. I was
- 17:28Speaker 2: more like, how did I not know there was a
- 17:30Speaker 2: UFC episode of The Simpsons? Yeah? No, well yeah, I
- 17:32Speaker 2: certainly didn't mean And like I said, I'm I'm not
- 17:34Speaker 2: the hugest MMA fan or you're certainly UFC fan. I mean,
- 17:39Speaker 2: I guess I'm finding hard to differentiate the two mixed
- 17:41Speaker 2: martial artists.
- 17:41Speaker 5: Of course, it's fort UFC is the company, the company,
- 17:44Speaker 5: but they've done the same thing. When people say do
- 17:46Speaker 5: you watch WWE, they mean do you watch Restlingly.
- 17:48Speaker 2: Yes, other things that I enjoyed. However, I thought this
- 17:52Speaker 2: was a good visual gag. All the bullies are lined up,
- 17:55Speaker 2: they've got kill written on database, gets in front, skill right,
- 18:00Speaker 2: got the S written on his chest, and because they
- 18:02Speaker 2: give him a little beat down, I guess the rest
- 18:05Speaker 2: of them kids are going, oh that's ill. So yeah,
- 18:07Speaker 2: I thought that was a good visual gag.
- 18:09Speaker 5: Nights on her part, I liked when they were protesting
- 18:11Speaker 5: at the front home as five six, who's got tick?
- 18:13Speaker 5: Seven Eighth's that?
- 18:14Speaker 2: Nat? I like? Yeah? And I like that Scalper guy.
- 18:17Speaker 2: You reminded me of sort of like a Latino wise guy.
- 18:19Speaker 2: One thing.
- 18:20Speaker 5: Also just want to touch before we finish Our favorite
- 18:22Speaker 5: moments is I liked how the family were continuing to
- 18:24Speaker 5: support Marge through this, and they were taking the seriousness
- 18:27Speaker 5: of the situation, like to another level when to get
- 18:30Speaker 5: they're going, well, we can't stop it from doing it,
- 18:31Speaker 5: but please just be careful or we're going to help her.
- 18:34Speaker 5: They're worry made us take the seriousness of the situation seriously.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Sure, you know what I mean? Yeah? Yeah, um. Other
- 18:41Speaker 2: things I enjoyed just a nice throw away gig about
- 18:46Speaker 2: if Gandhi could not eat for a whole three hour movie?
- 18:48Speaker 2: Nice one. What's the gag there? Tell the people at home? Oh, well,
- 18:53Speaker 2: my home. As Gandhi was a great civil rights leader
- 18:56Speaker 2: in India, known for his hunger strikes and his you know,
- 19:00Speaker 2: civil disobetings and norm that comes up. There was of
- 19:01Speaker 2: course a big ass three hour movie about Gandhi who
- 19:04Speaker 2: played Ben Ben Kingsley and Kingsley. Okay, indeed, yeah, he
- 19:09Speaker 2: didn't need for a whole three movie back to He
- 19:11Speaker 2: went a lot longer than that.
- 19:12Speaker 5: But people do struggle to not eat during a movie.
- 19:15Speaker 5: It's like it's impossible, that is true.
- 19:17Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember the last time I actually went
- 19:19Speaker 2: to a movie without snacks more like Beatsleigh shove that
- 19:23Speaker 2: was good. I'm a sucker for a good word. I
- 19:25Speaker 2: like that woman has natural breasts. This can't be good.
- 19:30Speaker 2: And reverring to Marge as a mom, I'd like to fight. Yes, yeah,
- 19:35Speaker 2: that's good. Yeah, good lie, any any of us you enjoyed?
- 19:37Speaker 5: I like Lisa when she says this goes against every
- 19:39Speaker 5: feminist bone in my body. But day, can you control
- 19:41Speaker 5: your woman? And just Tatum ordering food? So he orders
- 19:45Speaker 5: Gazelle's and would be some more and then he wants
- 19:47Speaker 5: a two litered cherry Cola or something on those lines.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Only got one leader.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Have you ever gone to a fast food restaurant or
- 19:53Speaker 5: caught up your favorite place and you've always got what
- 19:56Speaker 5: you want? You wret a certain meal, certain drink, whatever,
- 19:58Speaker 5: And it's one of the things I haven't got for me.
- 20:00Speaker 5: It almost like throws It's like, what's the point, It
- 20:02Speaker 5: just throws the whole meal out, Like have you gone?
- 20:04Speaker 5: Have you had that situation?
- 20:05Speaker 2: Not for me.
- 20:05Speaker 5: It used to be when we're younger, like you know,
- 20:07Speaker 5: two in the morning, we go, let's go to max
- 20:09Speaker 5: this and get a mcflurry and we get them. I
- 20:10Speaker 5: have a cheesebaking meal and a mcflury. I'm mcflurry Machin's
- 20:13Speaker 5: not working. It's like, well, what's the fucking point?
- 20:14Speaker 2: Oh yeah, that's the end of the caviare certainly, and
- 20:18Speaker 2: it's usually applies to macis as well, because it means,
- 20:20Speaker 2: you know, I'm a sucker for an apple pie and
- 20:22Speaker 2: we don't have any apple pies we can give you
- 20:24Speaker 2: like this, I don't want that. Ye why is it
- 20:28Speaker 2: even on the menu? What is the point? Yeah? I
- 20:31Speaker 2: appreciated that.

- 20:57Speaker 2: Next question, you there eating the trivia time, mister Davis
- 21:01Speaker 2: Trivia Duran. Your first question, how many pages of pawn
- 21:05Speaker 2: did March you have to go through? Because she got
- 21:06Speaker 2: too crazy? Bowling? First question, it's ninety seven thousand. There
- 21:09Speaker 2: we go. My limits had about like four thousand. What's
- 21:12Speaker 2: it just poured out? Oh no, I've got I've got
- 21:16Speaker 2: the endless capacity. Okay, your first question, well that was
- 21:20Speaker 2: my first.
- 21:20Speaker 5: My second one is what tattoos has Drederic Tatum got
- 21:23Speaker 5: on his chest?
- 21:24Speaker 2: Oh gosh, I can't remember all of them. Certainly one
- 21:26Speaker 2: of them was that was it the New Testament or
- 21:27Speaker 2: the Holy Bible, Lord's prayer, Lord's prayer? Scooby do, Scooby doo. Yeah,
- 21:33Speaker 2: And there was my there were.
- 21:34Speaker 5: My skull, Hiroshima, the bomb going off? And Obama. Now
- 21:38Speaker 5: there's a lot of few political gags in here, but
- 21:40Speaker 5: they said they called Joe Biden a jackass. Yes, indeed,
- 21:44Speaker 5: Obama's got of Biden. And they mentioned that the George
- 21:47Speaker 5: Bush's name won't be mentioned anymore. Yahd YadA YadA. As
- 21:50Speaker 5: she's going, I can't recall the last time I saw
- 21:52Speaker 5: a Simpsons episode where they took the mickey out of
- 21:54Speaker 5: Obama or Biden or anyone in the Democratic Party.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Very very political, and this this episode, I mean, this
- 22:00Speaker 2: one one of my favorite moments. And I was going
- 22:02Speaker 2: to talk about it a bit later. But talking about Oh,
- 22:05Speaker 2: I feel like I'm just like back in the Roman Empire,
- 22:07Speaker 2: except their RAMPI was falling a part. It's like, this
- 22:09Speaker 2: is two thousand and nine. I think this episode came.
- 22:11Speaker 5: Out like I will say, I thought Lenny and Karr,
- 22:14Speaker 5: who got the characters back on track here, didn't feel
- 22:16Speaker 5: like I mean, granted they were being sort of smamy,
- 22:18Speaker 5: but it felt like they were being unnecessarily cruel for
- 22:21Speaker 5: a while.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Lennie and Karr that.
- 22:22Speaker 5: It's like, it felt like they didn't for a good portion,
- 22:25Speaker 5: not just Lennon and car a lot of the characters.
- 22:26Speaker 5: It felt like, you never don't know what to do
- 22:28Speaker 5: with these guys anymore. The Bullies were a good example.
- 22:30Speaker 5: Remember it's like, ah, and it feels like they're finally
- 22:33Speaker 5: twenty one at least, it's like, oh, they've finally worked
- 22:35Speaker 5: out what to do with the end.
- 22:36Speaker 2: You know what? We call that the Carolina mene. We
- 22:39Speaker 2: do it be a mean air effect. My next question
- 22:42Speaker 2: for you, what is the who are the two opponents
- 22:45Speaker 2: on the fight card on the program that Bart is
- 22:47Speaker 2: getting signed?
- 22:48Speaker 5: Well, Chuck la Dale was a guy signing Isdell one
- 22:50Speaker 5: of the names. No, no, okay, what is it? It's
- 22:53Speaker 5: King versus Lopez Lopez. And here's the thing.
- 22:56Speaker 2: When they go to the fight between everyone like the.
- 23:01Speaker 5: Chet chet ele angle breash or something, it's angle brit
- 23:05Speaker 5: but the subtis is angle brick, and then like, are
- 23:09Speaker 5: going to going to no sorry, it says angle brick.
- 23:12Speaker 5: I think on Disney Plus, on the Simpsons Wiki it
- 23:15Speaker 5: says angle brick, but on Wikipedia sas angle Bridge. I'm
- 23:17Speaker 5: gonna go angle brick because Simpsons Wiki is like run
- 23:20Speaker 5: by a Simpsons.
- 23:22Speaker 2: But the thing of it is when they later on
- 23:24Speaker 2: when they have that fight, it's the same program. It's
- 23:26Speaker 2: still got King and log So I one got viae
- 23:29Speaker 2: Byre that blunder.
- 23:30Speaker 5: And I think it was really cool about UFC back
- 23:32Speaker 5: when I think it's still doing it. But every event
- 23:34Speaker 5: was UFC number forty three, and it's like, I'm gonna
- 23:37Speaker 5: watch the mall set. My final question for you is
- 23:41Speaker 5: what is the name of the fight?
- 23:43Speaker 2: I loved this name. Oh oh, when a man loves
- 23:48Speaker 2: a woman? How good is that? That is good? My well,
- 23:53Speaker 2: I got two more questions, let me choose. Okay, how
- 23:57Speaker 2: long has Krusty been dating Sancho Mel's wife? Eleven years?
- 24:00Speaker 2: Eleven years? Yeah, and the Spark's Gone, Teller is Gone.
- 24:05Speaker 2: There were a couple of.
- 24:06Speaker 5: Gags in this episode that I thought felt odd, and
- 24:09Speaker 5: that was one of them. So I didn't really go anywhere,
- 24:10Speaker 5: just sort of feeler the auto moment with a hacky
- 24:12Speaker 5: sack as well. I was like, yeah, it just killed
- 24:15Speaker 5: ten seconds, but it didn't really add anything the point.
- 24:18Speaker 2: And look, you mentioned this line earlier. I'm not yet,
- 24:22Speaker 2: not one hundred percent sure I feel about That's the
- 24:23Speaker 2: first time I ever hit a woman I didn't love.
- 24:26Speaker 5: It's pretty dark game, and I can see why Danel
- 24:29Speaker 5: White would be annoyed by because you're betraying our fighters
- 24:31Speaker 5: as women beings. Yeah, yeah, which some of them have
- 24:35Speaker 5: proven to be the case. Was actually a video of
- 24:37Speaker 5: Dana White slapping his wife.
- 24:39Speaker 2: So yeah, I mean Caroline and certain a bit of
- 24:43Speaker 2: stealth commentary in there. Yeah, oh god damn. Yeah.
- 24:45Speaker 5: But again, though, as it was touching on earlier, you
- 24:48Speaker 5: look at the audience for UFC, and I think people
- 24:50Speaker 5: from the outside see those people and go, well, that's
- 24:52Speaker 5: the kind of person that watches this stuff. You know,
- 24:53Speaker 5: it's for those people.
- 24:55Speaker 2: I've mentioned this movie in the past on various podcasts,
- 24:58Speaker 2: but I mean the thing that's sort of not necessarily
- 25:00Speaker 2: normalized UFC or m m A for me. But it
- 25:03Speaker 2: came out I think a year or so. Lady. It's
- 25:05Speaker 2: called Warrior. Oh yeah, yeah, we love that movie. I
- 25:07Speaker 2: love that movie. It's like Wallburg. No, no, that's that's
- 25:12Speaker 2: the Fighter. That's yeah. He's got Joel editd and Tom
- 25:15Speaker 2: Hardy Yes, Tom Hardy. Yeah, these two brothers who are
- 25:19Speaker 2: both MMA fighters and end up fighting each other ring.
- 25:22Speaker 2: It's such a good movie.
- 25:32Speaker 5: Before we get into our review though, of The Great
- 25:34Speaker 5: Wife Hope, there are some people we need to give
- 25:36Speaker 5: shots to and they are the Stonecutters.
- 25:38Speaker 2: Indeed knockouts, every single one of them, including the Love
- 25:40Speaker 2: the kdd G. She is a knockout.
- 25:43Speaker 5: They did t k O. That's a top knockout. T
- 25:46Speaker 5: k O is the company it now owns UFC. There
- 25:48Speaker 5: you go what. I didn't even know that they owned
- 25:53Speaker 5: w W w W as well. So ure seeing w
- 25:56Speaker 5: w OW owned by the same company.
- 25:58Speaker 2: I'm not sure Big Vanna all this consolidation, but you know,
- 26:00Speaker 2: it is what it is. It is what it is. Indeed,
- 26:03Speaker 2: feel free to buy us out. More people who we
- 26:05Speaker 2: do love are these people.
- 26:06Speaker 5: Glen Gomez Justin Parker, Zach Pruitt, Shanny Macha, Elliot, j O'Neil,
- 26:10Speaker 5: Isabella Murphy, Reached Beasley, Stephen Roberts, Sean d V. Pete Anderson,
- 26:14Speaker 5: Timothy Burlson, Andrew Davis, Kevin Dazel, Planned Flood of Bello,
- 26:17Speaker 5: winder Bane, Jack McFadden, Heath Apple, be Adriam McLeod, March,
- 26:20Speaker 5: Levan Ginger and Pickle Preston Murray, Talia Enriquez, Declan Phoenix,
- 26:23Speaker 5: Brian McCoy, Logan By, James Shepherd, Joe Ridden, Sect, Dave
- 26:26Speaker 5: Pretzels McNally, Gavinlange, Dammy Miller, Charlie Joe and Abigail b
- 26:30Speaker 5: Sharp Carter. Incredible people, you bet you yes, well matter breath.
- 26:34Speaker 5: But we're going to be getting into our review now
- 26:35Speaker 5: of The Great Wife Hope, which originally aired October eleventh,
- 26:38Speaker 5: two thousand and nine. The top three films at the
- 26:41Speaker 5: US box office at this time number three, Cloudy with
- 26:43Speaker 5: a Chance, Meatballs still up there, Zombie Lands still.
- 26:45Speaker 2: Up there, and Couples Retreat is number one. Can you
- 26:48Speaker 2: believe Couple's Retreat was number one at the US box office.
- 26:51Speaker 2: I'm struggling to remember, and I think it's what like
- 26:53Speaker 2: Jason Bateman, Vince Vaughn. I think John Average was definitely
- 26:56Speaker 2: in the stick a fav gosh unified theory. One thing
- 27:00Speaker 2: I did notice, so number four Paranormal Activity Climbing with
- 27:03Speaker 2: a bullet. From nineteen to four, word of mouth spread
- 27:07Speaker 2: about that film, and it was plus eleven hundred and
- 27:10Speaker 2: seventy percent in box office takings in one week. Super spooky.
- 27:14Speaker 5: Yeah, but cheap didn't cost anything to maybe fifteen thousand dollars.
- 27:18Speaker 2: That's the most profitable movie of all time or something.
- 27:20Speaker 2: It certainly's got to be up there. Yeah and d yeah,
- 27:22Speaker 2: parable I'm treated to see where it gets. Number one.
- 27:24Speaker 2: There's going to keep climbing. So the next week we'll
- 27:25Speaker 2: find out.
- 27:26Speaker 5: On the next season twenty one episode at production code
- 27:29Speaker 5: Lab f one six, as we mentioned, written by Carolyn Amine,
- 27:31Speaker 5: directed by Matthew Thorn, chucklate Belle stars as himself and
- 27:35Speaker 5: Musha Walls. Is there to crapbubble and the chop ball
- 27:37Speaker 5: gag I am not allergic to long division and the
- 27:39Speaker 5: couchhagg was a repeat of the one from Take My
- 27:41Speaker 5: Life Please, where it's a really long couch gag where
- 27:44Speaker 5: they're chasing the couch around very in the space eventually
- 27:47Speaker 5: to get it back. Yes, they had to kill two minutes.
- 27:49Speaker 5: It was two minutes before the episode actually started. The
- 27:52Speaker 5: episode kicks off with margin.
- 27:53Speaker 2: Let's not forget the billboard. It's for the left um
- 27:55Speaker 2: next run next right, Yes, sorry about that.
- 27:58Speaker 5: They need to put the billboard gag on the wiki
- 28:00Speaker 5: page otherwise I keep forgetting it. Sorry about that. But
- 28:02Speaker 5: Marg and her friends are crazy bowling. She she has
- 28:05Speaker 5: baking gloves on. Lwans there she's blindfolded, which seems right
- 28:08Speaker 5: up her Rally, we have Sarah Wiggan with some snorkels,
- 28:11Speaker 5: missus Ky some boxing gloves, and Beernice Hibbit with a
- 28:14Speaker 5: straight jacket on.
- 28:15Speaker 2: And Marge.
- 28:16Speaker 5: Why does she the idea I should throw the pawns
- 28:19Speaker 5: for crazy bowling, looking for women having fun or something. Yeah,
- 28:23Speaker 5: girls having fun, girls having fun with something like that.
- 28:25Speaker 5: And they look around and they notice that there's no
- 28:27Speaker 5: men around. Sherry and Terry are bowling crazy cat lady's
- 28:29Speaker 5: bowling her cats down and whatnot. And then we get
- 28:33Speaker 5: even though it's I think it's Super Taco Tuesday or
- 28:35Speaker 5: Nacho Chooesday, haven't had Nacho's for a long time they
- 28:38Speaker 5: were my teenagey is my staple.
- 28:40Speaker 2: So easy to make.
- 28:40Speaker 5: Get a bag of free those some salser cheese on
- 28:43Speaker 5: top in the microwave for two minutes.
- 28:44Speaker 2: Done. That's that's step brothers nachos. You are wearing your
- 28:47Speaker 2: step brothers. Yeah, but that's the team.
- 28:50Speaker 5: It's like it's easy to make and you get professional natches.
- 28:52Speaker 5: But it's like, now's your time for that three days
- 28:55Speaker 5: cheese salsa go with a bit of sour cream on
- 28:57Speaker 5: the side.
- 28:58Speaker 2: No, I's to love making just supreme nachos. You know,
- 29:01Speaker 2: how would you do it? Your layer of corn chips,
- 29:04Speaker 2: You put a bit of quack on there, some cheese,
- 29:06Speaker 2: get a bit of slicer on top of that, more
- 29:07Speaker 2: layer of chips, get some refried beans, perhaps, but sour
- 29:10Speaker 2: cream as well. Maybe. How old are you when you're
- 29:13Speaker 2: making all this ship?
- 29:14Speaker 1: Though?
- 29:14Speaker 2: Oh not long not long ago.
- 29:16Speaker 5: I'm talking with teenagers like fourteen fifteen? Oh okay, fine, yeah,
- 29:20Speaker 5: mates of a playing like all n on video games.
- 29:23Speaker 2: I'm some re five beans. Yeah, everyone just goes, wow, Dan,
- 29:28Speaker 2: I would have leed to.
- 29:29Speaker 5: Be had salt and cheese, okay, but yeah that sounds delicious. Yeah,
- 29:32Speaker 5: so it was really nice. Do you put them in
- 29:34Speaker 5: the oven?
- 29:34Speaker 2: And is that how you make it? Yes?
- 29:35Speaker 5: Yeah, ok, yeah was the microwave job. So it'd be
- 29:37Speaker 5: a bit soggy, but we like them soggy as well.
- 29:39Speaker 2: Just delicious.
- 29:40Speaker 5: Yeah, so good, but very bad for you. But yeah,
- 29:43Speaker 5: So then we get cut to most. They think they're
- 29:44Speaker 5: all gonna be at Mo's. No one's there. No one's
- 29:47Speaker 5: at the baseballship skipping on the jukebox. Yeah, the baseball stadium.
- 29:53Speaker 5: No one's at the baseball either. The kiss cam, the cats,
- 29:56Speaker 5: the rats are police station, they're not there. Then no cops,
- 29:59Speaker 5: be good. The science is on the door, and turns
- 30:01Speaker 5: out they roll at the up k c C the
- 30:03Speaker 5: Ultimate Punch, Kick and Choke Championship, which I guess you
- 30:07Speaker 5: can't really callt UFC, can you. You've got to got
- 30:10Speaker 5: to call it a parody name. I'm actually surprised I
- 30:12Speaker 5: never actually just took I know they've had wrestling episodes,
- 30:15Speaker 5: but just taking a direct mickey out of wrestling in general.
- 30:19Speaker 5: When wrestling was at his peak. Wrestling it was at
- 30:20Speaker 5: his peak, Stone Coll, Steve Os and the Rock and that.
- 30:23Speaker 2: You feel like you to be right, would be right,
- 30:25Speaker 2: But they never did it, but Willie and Sideho, Mel
- 30:28Speaker 2: and Moe they're bonding over to shouting out ship from
- 30:30Speaker 2: the crowd.
- 30:30Speaker 5: That's what happens at sporting events. You just you don't
- 30:32Speaker 5: know these guys, but just if you both for the
- 30:34Speaker 5: same team, sure you just you bond over these things.
- 30:36Speaker 5: The bullys have the kill written on there, so it's
- 30:38Speaker 5: k I l L. You said, database rocks up with
- 30:41Speaker 5: s makes it skill. Then the fighter I liked this
- 30:45Speaker 5: little bait and switch, so you think he's gonna break
- 30:47Speaker 5: someone's leg break and then he loses, and Homo says
- 30:51Speaker 5: there's no better violence than stuff and flip the violence
- 30:53Speaker 5: and pokes himself and the yell with a straw, but
- 30:55Speaker 5: thanks him for bringing in. So I remember this day
- 30:57Speaker 5: my deathbed, and Homah says, not everyone gets deathbed, but says,
- 31:00Speaker 5: maybe I'll get shot by a punk trying to get
- 31:02Speaker 5: into a gang, which I thought was just just there.
- 31:05Speaker 2: They don't all land, No, they don't.
- 31:06Speaker 5: Indeed, they're walking out Linny and Karl. This is what
- 31:09Speaker 5: we were talking about earlier with the Roman Empire. So
- 31:12Speaker 5: he says, three hours of half naked man fighting like animals.
- 31:15Speaker 5: It's like Roman time, except that empire was falling apart then,
- 31:18Speaker 5: but us the fighter, which Chuck ladal he comes out
- 31:21Speaker 5: the back.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, no, just not how it works. That's true. But
- 31:24Speaker 2: they notice say, oh this is Chuck lad It's just
- 31:27Speaker 2: a fighter. But it says he does he look like
- 31:29Speaker 2: Chuck Late does, Yeah, Chuck l Dale. But then it
- 31:32Speaker 2: says like Chuck Lade. Guest starts as himself and he
- 31:34Speaker 2: doesn't go heyes, you've seen. It's like, hey, you're a
- 31:37Speaker 2: fire to play someer thing. Yeah.
- 31:39Speaker 5: Then I wonder if that was a thing that Dane,
- 31:42Speaker 5: because Dana what he approves everything. I wondered because he's like,
- 31:46Speaker 5: I don't know how he's going to go.
- 31:47Speaker 2: Don't name him. You can be on it. It can
- 31:49Speaker 2: look like you, but you're not to be named. It
- 31:51Speaker 2: seems like I think there was a lot of ass covering. Yeah,
- 31:55Speaker 2: ask him. Sure, could you sign my program a swear word?
- 32:01Speaker 3: Yes, filthy but obscure with a subtle scatological undertone.
- 32:06Speaker 2: Sure, no problem. Twenty five dollars please.
- 32:08Speaker 3: Made it man boy, listen son, I know we saw
- 32:13Speaker 3: some moreesome beatdoms tonight, but remember, don't try this at home.
- 32:17Speaker 3: Do it at the schoolyard someplace where if you get hurt,
- 32:21Speaker 3: we can sue not just them, but the school, the county,
- 32:24Speaker 3: the state, and that Jack s Joe Biden.
- 32:28Speaker 5: Do not try this at home, which used to be
- 32:29Speaker 5: a thing when you watch the wrestling, because I think
- 32:31Speaker 5: a guy, a boy like I think he killed his
- 32:34Speaker 5: system and maybe seriously hurt her like doing a wrestling
- 32:36Speaker 5: move chokes lam or something. I'm sure there's so many
- 32:39Speaker 5: like chokeouts that the people have troll after UFC. Yeah
- 32:43Speaker 5: for sure, because with wrestling it was like we do
- 32:46Speaker 5: chokeslas love the easy one you pick up, slam them
- 32:48Speaker 5: down or just like scoop slams, just like that. But
- 32:50Speaker 5: when you had a trampoline, wrestling was so much fun
- 32:52Speaker 5: and you can imagine, Yeah, kids not know the difference
- 32:55Speaker 5: between I'm gonna I'm gonna make your tap and I'm
- 32:58Speaker 5: gonna actually break your arm.
- 32:59Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, kids are stupid, We know this. But
- 33:03Speaker 2: I mean when I was a teenager, we just had
- 33:06Speaker 2: so much sort of imprompt you wrestling at recess and lunchtime.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And I was a smaller kid, so I mean I
- 33:14Speaker 2: was barely getting thrown around. You should have been the
- 33:16Speaker 2: heel manager. I know now from the set should have
- 33:18Speaker 2: been wise guy would have been.
- 33:21Speaker 5: But yes, I said, there's don't try this at home,
- 33:22Speaker 5: only try in the schoolyard where we can sue everybody
- 33:24Speaker 5: at the school and then the counsel whatever, including that
- 33:27Speaker 5: jack ass Joe Biden, which is such a weird gag
- 33:29Speaker 5: to hear in twenty twenty five, isn't Oh yeah, it's
- 33:31Speaker 5: like he was he hadn't become vice president yet, but
- 33:34Speaker 5: because I think they got sworn in November. This air
- 33:36Speaker 5: in October, but everyone in American who Joe Biden was
- 33:39Speaker 5: by this point because running mate with Obama.
- 33:42Speaker 2: But it was just weird hearing that. The Simpsons of
- 33:43Speaker 2: all shows talking down Yeah, but certainly the Onion at
- 33:50Speaker 2: the time. They had a running gag about sort of
- 33:54Speaker 2: renaming him Diamond Joe Biden and having him like this
- 33:56Speaker 2: hustler even like Joe Quimby well yeah, yeah, I mean,
- 34:00Speaker 2: but yeah, kind of like a bit of a grifter
- 34:02Speaker 2: who was like riding on. Obama was very sort of
- 34:05Speaker 2: straight up and down and his Diamond Joe going making
- 34:07Speaker 2: sort of deals behind the scenes. Man else to just
- 34:10Speaker 2: be a real sort of charmer, you know, like the
- 34:13Speaker 2: real slickster. And yeah, come of the opposite one.
- 34:16Speaker 5: And see what he said what he became. But yeah,
- 34:19Speaker 5: between twenty four the finished last year twen twenty four
- 34:21Speaker 5: sounds a bat around. Yeah, but he wasn't really really running.
- 34:24Speaker 2: I know. It just feels like Djt's been running the
- 34:26Speaker 2: show for goodness knows help, he's been just had a
- 34:29Speaker 2: free living in Hedge run free for goodness knows. He
- 34:31Speaker 2: and Biden was running the show. Never felt that he
- 34:33Speaker 2: was running the show. It just felt like he was
- 34:35Speaker 2: sort of a placeholder until ye, until until the down
- 34:39Speaker 2: till this.
- 34:39Speaker 5: Yeah, but then we see Nelson. He's fighting Millhouse at
- 34:43Speaker 5: school and Bart's next. He beats the crap out of
- 34:45Speaker 5: Millhouse and milk. Bart's next, Ralph has used as the
- 34:47Speaker 5: bell ding ding, and Marge just there to pick up
- 34:49Speaker 5: Lisa's it's obviously after school because she's had to pick
- 34:52Speaker 5: up Lisa.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Where's your brother? I don't know, chasing ducks buried alive,
- 34:57Speaker 2: He'll be messed. Let's move, I gotta collect pink aunt
- 35:00Speaker 2: Ny Ny. Just follow the guys, Mam.
- 35:05Speaker 5: I don't like lately they've had Lisa sort of be
- 35:09Speaker 5: disinterested in the health of Bart or not even really
- 35:13Speaker 5: care about his existence.
- 35:13Speaker 2: And yeah, it was not a fan, but I was
- 35:16Speaker 2: not a fan of the way Lisa sort of came
- 35:18Speaker 2: across in this episode. I got to say she wasn't
- 35:20Speaker 2: ended all that much, but you know, yeah, all the
- 35:23Speaker 2: stuff she's saying in the car. He was kind of like,
- 35:24Speaker 2: this doesn't feel very Lisa SIMPSONZK no no.
- 35:27Speaker 5: And then here die Die Die, and I think, just
- 35:30Speaker 5: just follow the die's mum, you'll find him. And Mark
- 35:32Speaker 5: goes around the back and she sees Nelson is getting
- 35:34Speaker 5: beaten up by Bart. Mart's actually defeating him. I'm glad
- 35:37Speaker 5: your father's not here to see this, and he's there chewing.
- 35:40Speaker 5: I thought I was quite good. It's almost like a
- 35:41Speaker 5: home in the hedge Hud, who just sort of backs away,
- 35:43Speaker 5: backs away. And then Bart admits that he's copying what
- 35:45Speaker 5: he saw on Ultimate Punching and March's Ultimate makes everything
- 35:49Speaker 5: worse than Otto says, not Ultimate Frisbee. I mean he's
- 35:51Speaker 5: got a good point, sure, Ozmat Frisbee is for all
- 35:53Speaker 5: of fun, but the gag should end it there. And
- 35:55Speaker 5: then she goes, what have you got something to do
- 35:56Speaker 5: with your hacky sack? And he's sort of it's hacky, right,
- 35:59Speaker 5: hacky sack. I used to call a happy sack when
- 36:00Speaker 5: I was a little I was like, that's not right,
- 36:02Speaker 5: that's just like different kinds of sack. Yes, it is, indeed,
- 36:04Speaker 5: but then you have see Otto fail with his hacky
- 36:07Speaker 5: sack for like ten seconds and I'm going this didn't
- 36:09Speaker 5: go anywhere.
- 36:10Speaker 2: What was the point of this?
- 36:11Speaker 5: And then she reminds and then she says she's gonna
- 36:13Speaker 5: put a stop to this, and Nelson says, you can't
- 36:15Speaker 5: put a stop to a sport without several other mothers,
- 36:17Speaker 5: sympathetic school officials and clergymen placed the meat snacks. A
- 36:21Speaker 5: phone tree is invaluable and Marge says, you know, you're
- 36:23Speaker 5: really good and it's good knack for this, and he
- 36:24Speaker 5: says he wants to be an event planner when he's older.
- 36:26Speaker 5: You could plan Lisa's wedding. And I was like, what
- 36:28Speaker 5: a random, yeah, random conversation. We come back from commercial
- 36:34Speaker 5: and all the women from the first scene that were bowling,
- 36:37Speaker 5: all the mothers are now watching you pay caccs are
- 36:40Speaker 5: disgusted by it. And this is where Marge says that
- 36:41Speaker 5: the line of the episode call me to kill a joy.
- 36:43Speaker 5: But I think that since this is not to my taste.
- 36:45Speaker 5: No one I should be able to enjoy it either,
- 36:47Speaker 5: And that's just yet. You can just apply that to anything.
- 36:49Speaker 2: Yeah, true, Look, it's a complicated one and I won't
- 36:52Speaker 2: pretend I've got any answers when it comes to this,
- 36:54Speaker 2: but I mean, yeah, part of me is kind of like, well,
- 36:56Speaker 2: if you don't like it, don't watch it. But the
- 36:58Speaker 2: other thing is, well, you know, if you're a mother
- 37:00Speaker 2: or a parent or whatever, or you've got people that
- 37:03Speaker 2: you're looking at for, it's like, yeah, but they may
- 37:05Speaker 2: watch and they may take the wrong ideas with it.
- 37:07Speaker 2: Next thing, you know, someone's body slam their little sister
- 37:09Speaker 2: and she's ended.
- 37:09Speaker 5: Up a quadriplegic Jerry Springer and you're watching twenty twenty
- 37:13Speaker 5: five and you're like, holy shit, this was on television.
- 37:16Speaker 2: Well true, Oh yeah, all the biggest loads or anything
- 37:18Speaker 2: like that. Yeah, anything, yep. So Bart, then please don't
- 37:21Speaker 2: do it. Don't do it. It's as fun for me
- 37:22Speaker 2: as having kids. This for you.
- 37:24Speaker 5: And then he asked me for help. Back me up, dad,
- 37:26Speaker 5: and Homer says, ultimately punching his exploitive, violent, and a
- 37:28Speaker 5: bad influence on our young people, and Bart smells chocolate
- 37:31Speaker 5: on his on his breath. Someone a slice of black
- 37:33Speaker 5: Forest cake. I love black Forest cherryke. We got both
- 37:36Speaker 5: cherry cake. It was my favorite of all cakes.
- 37:38Speaker 2: Yeah, black Forest ghetto delightful, so good.
- 37:41Speaker 5: He says it wasn't just a piece, it was the
- 37:42Speaker 5: whole cake, frosting like snow is for Bavarian Castle. So
- 37:45Speaker 5: Marge has got Homer on her side now by baking
- 37:48Speaker 5: him a cake.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Just one of my favorite lines from this episode. You
- 37:51Speaker 2: knew my one weakness that I'm weak. I'm weak. Yeah.
- 37:55Speaker 5: Then they're protesting at the front. There's another up at
- 37:58Speaker 5: uk C see whatever it is MMA event happening in Springfield.
- 38:02Speaker 5: They're at the front with their one, two, three, four
- 38:04Speaker 5: blah blah blah. Harmas is five six, who's got ticks?
- 38:06Speaker 2: Seven?
- 38:06Speaker 5: Eight ys that game. Marge then says, the only way
- 38:08Speaker 5: to stop this is by thinking like one of these guys.
- 38:10Speaker 5: So she asked for a ticket. The guy says, I'm
- 38:12Speaker 5: not a scale, but I've just got.
- 38:13Speaker 2: A two hundred friends. It didn't show up. They didn't showup.
- 38:15Speaker 2: Didn't shad the buying a ticket.
- 38:16Speaker 5: She goes in there and she sneaks into the cage,
- 38:19Speaker 5: but before we get the women just instantly turning on
- 38:21Speaker 5: Margine talking about it behind her back.
- 38:22Speaker 2: That's right, yes, but now they're not calling it the
- 38:25Speaker 2: octagon here. They're calling it the sceptagone, which is like
- 38:27Speaker 2: a scept Well that'll be nine ring, which is weird
- 38:32Speaker 2: because and I say it is seven yes, seven yeah,
- 38:35Speaker 2: oh okay, because an octagon has eight sides, and I
- 38:38Speaker 2: was thinking hexagon step to gone, yeah, octagon. Yeah. I
- 38:41Speaker 2: think I was trying to correlate it to the months,
- 38:44Speaker 2: you know, like I was thinking September because I had
- 38:47Speaker 2: nine sides and octagon but has ten sides. But don't know,
- 38:49Speaker 2: he's eight sides going on and what are we doing?
- 38:51Speaker 2: I'm really confused. What's what's nine sides then?
- 38:53Speaker 5: And non a gone? Of course it's not gone yes
- 38:56Speaker 5: or November. It's actually a deck of it is the months,
- 38:59Speaker 5: but it's just the wrong man aside. Yeah, that doesn't
- 39:02Speaker 5: make it small only after a step ot none.
- 39:09Speaker 2: If any if anyone knows why this is, get in
- 39:13Speaker 2: the mail bag and let us or we got to
- 39:15Speaker 2: eat very easily google it, but we'd like to know
- 39:18Speaker 2: what you think about it.
- 39:19Speaker 5: Yeah, she's so she's walking towards the septagon and up
- 39:22Speaker 5: in the in the box we see for the first
- 39:24Speaker 5: time the owner. We don't know his name yet. Chet's
- 39:25Speaker 5: what we find out nurses march as natural breast, which
- 39:28Speaker 5: can't be good. And she enters the cage as it closes,
- 39:31Speaker 5: and she takes the mic. She says she won't rest
- 39:33Speaker 5: until we tear down the septagon. And the blue head lawyer,
- 39:36Speaker 5: who doesn't really sound the blue Head Lawyer anymore. It's
- 39:38Speaker 5: still just become like a corporate shill kind of guy.
- 39:41Speaker 5: He doesn't have such a wainmore.
- 39:43Speaker 2: He's not breaking the super punks.
- 39:45Speaker 5: No, not indeed, but he says that nobody tears down
- 39:47Speaker 5: the sept the gun except the crew for tomorrow morning.
- 39:49Speaker 5: Who because what's on tomorrow morning.
- 39:51Speaker 2: It's they call it huffle puffs or something, huffle stuff
- 39:53Speaker 2: half on the hulfle enough huffle stuff whatever, it's puffing
- 39:58Speaker 2: stuff in everything but name go to see this. The
- 40:01Speaker 2: world needs more hupuffer stuff. Well that's true. I would
- 40:03Speaker 2: smoke a big jay and then go see it.
- 40:04Speaker 5: Yes, check angle brick, he interrupts, and she asks him
- 40:08Speaker 5: to go out of business and don't all your profits
- 40:10Speaker 5: of charity, but check then agrees to a fight. There
- 40:12Speaker 5: he says, look, if you're on an interfere, you won't
- 40:14Speaker 5: take me down beat me in a fight. If you
- 40:16Speaker 5: can actually defeat me in a fight, I will. I
- 40:17Speaker 5: will do what you ask to.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Quote the guy on your T shirt. This escalated quickly.
- 40:22Speaker 5: It did the fact that she hasn't got to the
- 40:24Speaker 5: sceptic in the first place. I was like, there is
- 40:25Speaker 5: that this isn't happening. But so they're bickering here. She's like,
- 40:29Speaker 5: I'm not going to fight you, and then he says, wait,
- 40:31Speaker 5: you have to ask your husband, which is usually the
- 40:32Speaker 5: other way around, you have to ask your wife. She
- 40:34Speaker 5: finally agrees. We see the number one nag go on
- 40:36Speaker 5: on the screen. She agrees to the fight. How it
- 40:39Speaker 5: gets back from the candy bar? What did I miss nothing?
- 40:42Speaker 2: Button?
- 40:43Speaker 5: Homer now say to Margin you can't fight it. On
- 40:45Speaker 5: their way home, you can't do it. He'll knock your block.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Off, your beautiful block. Yeah.
- 40:50Speaker 5: From this point on, Homer is very is a good
- 40:53Speaker 5: version of Homer. So I all the craziest things I've done,
- 40:55Speaker 5: this is the craziest and you're doing it. She says,
- 40:57Speaker 5: it's bigger than her. The Guardian line as you meant
- 41:00Speaker 5: know about the three hour movie. She thinks, you know,
- 41:01Speaker 5: he probably probably go easy on me. Then she sees
- 41:03Speaker 5: the promo video on the on the screen and she panics,
- 41:06Speaker 5: it's just basically him just beat the shit of her,
- 41:07Speaker 5: isn't it? Essentially yep, margin gets in shape with rhythmic
- 41:11Speaker 5: or she's going to get into shape with rhythmic gymnastics, yes,
- 41:15Speaker 5: which won't go well. The family we're watching from a window,
- 41:18Speaker 5: very concerned, like, oh, she thinks this is going to
- 41:19Speaker 5: work list as were saying earlier, it goes against every
- 41:21Speaker 5: feminist bone in her body, but they can control your woman.
- 41:24Speaker 5: And Marge then starts writing cutesy things with her ribbon
- 41:27Speaker 5: and whatnot and just yeah, it's not gonna end well.
- 41:28Speaker 5: She she has no idea what she's getting herself into.
- 41:30Speaker 5: Basically no, no. Then Lenny and Carl say to home,
- 41:34Speaker 5: because that is at most one one punches she with
- 41:36Speaker 5: bedridden and all she moves her toe a really weird
- 41:39Speaker 5: vision of her writing things with her foot, and it's like,
- 41:42Speaker 5: you know, where's Maggie. I'm cold, I don't understand you.
- 41:46Speaker 5: Where's my Wife's in there somewhere?
- 41:48Speaker 2: I'm not sure if that's and I know if I
- 41:52Speaker 2: mentioned this on the wiki or not. I'm wonder if
- 41:54Speaker 2: it was a lot of reference to move from the
- 41:56Speaker 2: lady that called my left foot? Have you ever heard
- 41:58Speaker 2: of this one? I have not, no greatest living actor
- 42:01Speaker 2: Daniel day Lewis. It's a true story based on this
- 42:04Speaker 2: Irish painter and poet who I believe had cerebral pausing
- 42:08Speaker 2: and could really only sort of control the only uh,
- 42:12Speaker 2: he can only control his left fot but he painted
- 42:14Speaker 2: like pictures with it and drew and wrote poems with
- 42:17Speaker 2: this footnote this kind of stuff, and was like, oh
- 42:19Speaker 2: this guy was the lost cause, Oh my god, this
- 42:20Speaker 2: guy's actually an artist, but he can only control his
- 42:22Speaker 2: left foot.
- 42:23Speaker 5: Well that's a that's a very Golden era style gag.
- 42:26Speaker 5: Then it's on a reference to something in pop culture
- 42:29Speaker 5: by this point, which is like twenty five years old,
- 42:31Speaker 5: and he watched his going Well that's just a home
- 42:33Speaker 5: stupid hammer vision. But it's like if you know, you know, yeah,
- 42:36Speaker 5: and now you know, yes, well played, Carl.
- 42:39Speaker 3: Do you know heavyweight champ Drederick Tatum?
- 42:41Speaker 1: What you think just because I'm black, I know all
- 42:43Speaker 1: of the black people. Well, actually, Drederick and I are
- 42:47Speaker 1: very good friends. We met through Dyke the Hibbit at
- 42:49Speaker 1: a party of Bleeding Gove's Murphy's house. Well, mind, you
- 42:52Speaker 1: have definitely come to the ray Crib. I'm always happy
- 42:55Speaker 1: to impart my pugilistic prowess to a punching parbanell and
- 42:59Speaker 1: a first le. I think we'll be to work the tattoos,
- 43:03Speaker 1: Flaming Skull, Obama.
- 43:04Speaker 2: Scooby Doo, Scooby Doo, Scooby Doo.
- 43:07Speaker 1: Now work the Lord's prayer. I'm gonna order some lion food. Hello, Yeah,
- 43:11Speaker 1: how you doing. I'd like to order two Goodzelles and
- 43:13Speaker 1: Imparla and throw it a couple of world a beef oh,
- 43:16Speaker 1: and a two leader bottle of diet Cherry Kohler. You
- 43:19Speaker 1: just have one Leader bottles, Okay, cancel the whole order.

- 43:49Speaker 5: who was not voiced by George de kah anymore.
- 43:51Speaker 2: Okay, now I must write down here. It's like, okay,
- 43:54Speaker 2: who's doing this karate teacher voice.
- 43:56Speaker 5: It's Georgia Kahane the visional one fish, two fish, three fish, blowfish,
- 43:59Speaker 5: Mohammad eyes eating the fugu fish. But now it's Hakazaria.
- 44:03Speaker 2: Another crime. He's ragging, ragging up els. But I must
- 44:08Speaker 2: have met. I did love it.
- 44:09Speaker 5: Surprising move that was my favorite bet yees. So he's
- 44:12Speaker 5: teaching her jiu jitsu and how to use the opponent's
- 44:14Speaker 5: strength against themselves as well as using a bit off
- 44:16Speaker 5: your own.
- 44:17Speaker 2: But yeah, surprising move. Flips are over.
- 44:18Speaker 5: Then he holds home her in the air he's trying
- 44:20Speaker 5: to fly kick him, ties him up and ant pops
- 44:22Speaker 5: ole of.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Dis in his spine. Is he is?
- 44:24Speaker 1: He?
- 44:24Speaker 2: Okay? He feels no pain? Actould make England. He feels nothing,
- 44:27Speaker 2: but it feels only pain.
- 44:30Speaker 5: Now she's training with mister Burns. But's a very random thing.
- 44:33Speaker 5: But like I had to payoff, which I liked at
- 44:35Speaker 5: the end. So she's training with the Burns, who says,
- 44:37Speaker 5: you know, I was once the New Haven nuisance, and
- 44:39Speaker 5: I can buy this he was once. You know, I
- 44:42Speaker 5: can buy mister Burns as being like that little piss
- 44:45Speaker 5: hand who's just drove you insane, just mouth from the South.
- 44:48Speaker 5: Just he'd be a good wrestling heel. Mister Burns, just
- 44:50Speaker 5: the little little skinny guy. He climbs over her, says,
- 44:52Speaker 5: I'm going to give you the beating of a lifetime.
- 44:53Speaker 5: He thinks he's betting her up, but she's doing nothing
- 44:56Speaker 5: to her. She says she's late for a PTA meeting.
- 44:58Speaker 5: Cust to the PTA meeting and the skinner saying to
- 45:00Speaker 5: save money with the following presidents, will no longer be taught.
- 45:02Speaker 5: If you can and fillmore pierce bush Bush and he says,
- 45:06Speaker 5: we stopped doing that custom Marche standing there, mister bed
- 45:09Speaker 5: is still coming over. I thought, as silly as that is,
- 45:11Speaker 5: as soon as his if I appreciate it. As for
- 45:14Speaker 5: the payoff, yeah, then there's the following morning. Homer says,
- 45:18Speaker 5: it's ten minutes ten the kids wake up. I was like,
- 45:22Speaker 5: there's no gag here, this is just married life. Oh yeah,
- 45:25Speaker 5: the kids are asleep quick lock the doors, but then
- 45:30Speaker 5: Chet interrupts them with his crew says, tomorrow night, your
- 45:33Speaker 5: bedroom will be the scepter gone, and slipping pills will
- 45:35Speaker 5: be my punches. No one's questioned the fact that he's
- 45:38Speaker 5: going to beating up a woman. That's it's kind of weird.
- 45:41Speaker 5: But then she asked what book you reading, Eat, Pray, Love,
- 45:44Speaker 5: which he says is what beat Slave shov Yes, And
- 45:47Speaker 5: what do you think of the fireworks gag here?
- 45:49Speaker 2: I liked it? Not too bad? Yes, too bad.
- 45:51Speaker 5: The fireworks begin tomorrow and bang bang bang fireworks go off,
- 45:54Speaker 5: and it's just the guy saying, oh, no, I'm sorry.
- 45:56Speaker 5: I said tomorrow, I have trouble concentrating, and he starts
- 45:59Speaker 5: talking again, Bang bang bang more fiveways go off.
- 46:02Speaker 2: I want to backtrack a little bit. You're talking about
- 46:04Speaker 2: a man beating up a woman and all that kind
- 46:05Speaker 2: of stuff when a man gloves a woman. I think
- 46:09Speaker 2: one thing that MMA was pretty effective in doing was
- 46:13Speaker 2: mainstreaming the female involvement in it. Yeah yeah, I mean
- 46:17Speaker 2: they sort of made it evident from the get guards
- 46:20Speaker 2: like we're going to have male cards and female cards.
- 46:23Speaker 5: And that's where I think they won the younger audience
- 46:25Speaker 5: because they realized, oh ship, because you watched WWE and
- 46:28Speaker 5: it's brawn pandies matches, mud wrestling matches. Oh yeah, and
- 46:31Speaker 5: then you watch you have seen It's like, oh, these
- 46:33Speaker 5: are legit women kicking the fuck out of each other.
- 46:34Speaker 2: That's the thing. I mean, maybe the highest profile MMA
- 46:37Speaker 2: fighter for a while was wrong to rouse.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Yeah, well she broke them, she broke the mold. She
- 46:42Speaker 5: went into acting as well. Oh absolutely, Yeah, she's not
- 46:44Speaker 5: damn good at it. But yeah, but how many of
- 46:47Speaker 5: them actually are. That's true when it comes to like
- 46:50Speaker 5: wrestlers going into John scene is pretty good.
- 46:52Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 46:54Speaker 5: When it comes to comedy, he's bad. The rock He's
- 46:57Speaker 5: a perfectly fine action stuf.
- 47:00Speaker 2: He's a very very charismatic not a bad actor. I
- 47:03Speaker 2: haven't seen this movie with the smashing machine that no
- 47:05Speaker 2: one's seen it. No, No, I feel bad for him.
- 47:09Speaker 2: But no, I don't feel bad for him. I feel
- 47:11Speaker 2: bad that people you know. Oh no, wow, what a flop.
- 47:14Speaker 2: It's like, I don't think this was actually designed as
- 47:16Speaker 2: a huge box office hit. I think it was designed
- 47:18Speaker 2: more of a showcase to show that he can actually act.
- 47:20Speaker 2: And he's getting very very positive reviews for his performance
- 47:23Speaker 2: in it, even if it's not like a huge box
- 47:26Speaker 2: office some.
- 47:28Speaker 1: What do you call it.
- 47:29Speaker 5: I don't think they expected it to lose this much, though,
- 47:33Speaker 5: which is a shame because I want to see The
- 47:35Speaker 5: Rock start acting. But the failure of this film, though,
- 47:39Speaker 5: I don't think this dictates the future of his career.
- 47:41Speaker 5: Oh and I don't think he can then go well,
- 47:43Speaker 5: I can't do this anymore. So I don't think people
- 47:45Speaker 5: don't want to go see the Rock. It's just more
- 47:47Speaker 5: interested in this film. It wasn't really marketed that well either.
- 47:50Speaker 1: No.
- 47:50Speaker 2: Yeah, and quite frankly, it's a terrible title of Smashing Machine,
- 47:53Speaker 2: but the title is taken from a documentary actually about
- 47:56Speaker 2: Mark Kerr. Yeah.
- 47:58Speaker 5: The shame is just you know, you get not original concept,
- 48:00Speaker 5: but it's not a franchise, and these films aren't doing well.
- 48:03Speaker 2: I would just hope that he would make better action
- 48:05Speaker 2: movies as a result, because I mean I think everyone
- 48:07Speaker 2: was like, oh my god, we've got al Schwarzenegger. Now, yeah,
- 48:12Speaker 2: that was going to say it before, Yeah, except he
- 48:13Speaker 2: just squandered it on these really shitty movies. What about
- 48:17Speaker 2: the three for you? Like the three shitty movies for him?
- 48:20Speaker 2: When I watched Black Adam. I was like, oh, this
- 48:22Speaker 2: actually starting off not badly, but it just got bad
- 48:24Speaker 2: by the end. Red One is garbage, and I.
- 48:28Speaker 5: Can't believe Nickle and I went to the movies to
- 48:30Speaker 5: watch that and we're halfway through them and going, what
- 48:32Speaker 5: in the hell are we watching?
- 48:34Speaker 2: Yeah? Maybe Red Notice, Well that's the Netflix one with
- 48:38Speaker 2: Ryan Reynolds and Galga Dott. Jungle Credit was so good,
- 48:41Speaker 2: I know, so red there's Red Notice, which is like
- 48:45Speaker 2: a mission impossible. Yes, and then the other one, it
- 48:47Speaker 2: was Red One is the Santo Yeah, yeah, yeah. I
- 48:50Speaker 2: think it was a convergence of all those things. I
- 48:52Speaker 2: think the movies weren't very good, and he's he was
- 48:57Speaker 2: letting his public persona sort of gain traction as well.
- 49:01Speaker 2: He was making a lot of money. They were a
- 49:02Speaker 2: big successful Oh yeah yeah, but I think he started
- 49:06Speaker 2: to it seemed like he was buying into his own hype.
- 49:09Speaker 2: For me, it actually started around when he did that
- 49:10Speaker 2: version of Baywatch, which was fucking terrible, god awful, but
- 49:15Speaker 2: it was kind of like it was like a bandit
- 49:18Speaker 2: a proge in a lot of ways. It was like, Oh, Rock,
- 49:20Speaker 2: you're so funny, Oh you're so handsome, and it's like
- 49:23Speaker 2: like he couldn't lose fights, and every joke he cracked
- 49:25Speaker 2: was hilarious. I think one thing people liked about the
- 49:28Speaker 2: Rock is that he was this big charismatic guy, big charismatic,
- 49:32Speaker 2: confident guy who nonetheless had a slight degree of self
- 49:36Speaker 2: deprecation about him. And even when he played it up
- 49:38Speaker 2: like he did in the Fast and Furious movies, it
- 49:40Speaker 2: was kind of like it was a big cartoonish but
- 49:42Speaker 2: he started to take them a bit too seriously. That's
- 49:44Speaker 2: where I think John Sender is succeeding. Oh yeah, absolutely,
- 49:46Speaker 2: I think I think yeah, Seena looked at those took
- 49:50Speaker 2: all the right lessons from that stuff.
- 49:51Speaker 5: But we're back at school now, and now they're asking
- 49:53Speaker 5: the bullies for advice behind the bleachers, and he says,
- 49:57Speaker 5: I didn't get these knuckles from punching nothing of punch
- 49:59Speaker 5: punching bags. And he punches the punching bag Keernie, and
- 50:01Speaker 5: we hear a little sound inside. It turns out Martin's
- 50:03Speaker 5: in there. It's my fault.
- 50:04Speaker 2: I looked.
- 50:04Speaker 5: I looked him in the eyes when he gave him,
- 50:06Speaker 5: when I gave him my lunch money. Marches, you should
- 50:07Speaker 5: tell you principle about this, I'm well aware of the situation.
- 50:10Speaker 5: Also into the punching bag. Yeah, a lot of sort
- 50:13Speaker 5: of short, sharp gags here. Marge is now in the
- 50:16Speaker 5: arena just looking around, taking it all in, realizing her
- 50:19Speaker 5: fate is about to come.
- 50:20Speaker 2: Visually speaking, that's a nice shout it out to the
- 50:22Speaker 2: first Rocky by the way, is it okay? Yeah?
- 50:25Speaker 5: Lisa comes in to say it's not too late to
- 50:26Speaker 5: back out and marshes if she fights, it'll be less violent.
- 50:29Speaker 2: Word for you. So I've got to do this, and
- 50:31Speaker 2: Home suggests maybe's stressed up as you. And that's a
- 50:35Speaker 2: nice bit of work by Caroline and the riders as well.
- 50:38Speaker 2: It's a nice sort of counterpoint to that whole thing
- 50:40Speaker 2: that that gag that we were talking about one of
- 50:42Speaker 2: our favorite lines about this is not my taste. No
- 50:44Speaker 2: one should be able to enjoy it. This shows that
- 50:46Speaker 2: she actually has a reason. If I can make the
- 50:48Speaker 2: world less violent for the next generation, yeah, than good.
- 50:51Speaker 2: It's not just you can't I disapprove. Yeah, so you
- 50:54Speaker 2: can't either. Yeah, it's like she's got noble intentions even
- 50:57Speaker 2: if you don't agree.
- 50:58Speaker 5: And I also like here too that walks in dressed
- 51:00Speaker 5: as March, and I was just going, oh, no, this
- 51:03Speaker 5: isn't they going to really try this, are they?
- 51:04Speaker 2: And it's like, no, they don't. They're not.
- 51:06Speaker 5: Now Homer walks in just as March, saying I will
- 51:09Speaker 5: replace you in the fight. No one or no doing
- 51:11Speaker 5: that it is he's want to get doing that.
- 51:14Speaker 2: I don't need it all anymore. What I wrote down
- 51:17Speaker 2: is I wonder how Julie kay takes it when Dan
- 51:19Speaker 2: c does March. I should love it. I imagine you'd
- 51:22Speaker 2: love I don't think anyone's go Dan, is that what
- 51:24Speaker 2: I sound like? But let's be twenty five probably has
- 51:27Speaker 2: a better March quite frankly, but I'm just trying to
- 51:31Speaker 2: imagine the first time that they actually did that, whether
- 51:34Speaker 2: it was that gig that I just mentioned, was like
- 51:36Speaker 2: I love you. Oh I don't need it anymore is
- 51:39Speaker 2: my favorite. I'm just wondering if Julie Cabina would have gone,
- 51:41Speaker 2: Is that what I sound like? I don't need it
- 51:44Speaker 2: at all anymore.
- 51:47Speaker 5: But then Moe walks in and says, I'm going to
- 51:49Speaker 5: take it to my high school reunion, and he says,
- 51:51Speaker 5: won't people be a bit bit about this? Last year
- 51:53Speaker 5: took Barnes, you're going to be an upgrade, because Barney
- 51:55Speaker 5: was just as March last year, clearly just still playing
- 51:57Speaker 5: the march I mo Love's march gag. Now it's time
- 52:00Speaker 5: for the fight, and they're all walking in, all the
- 52:02Speaker 5: people mallards on it that Crusty invited him. He says, well,
- 52:04Speaker 5: I just invited you because now it's allowed public spant
- 52:07Speaker 5: can tell you that I'm dating your wife for the
- 52:08Speaker 5: last eleven years, always says, break tell her I'm dumbing
- 52:11Speaker 5: it because after eleven years the thriller's gone. Then the
- 52:14Speaker 5: kids are strapping her up, strapping her wrisks and what not,
- 52:17Speaker 5: ready for the fight. And Homas says, I can't stop
- 52:19Speaker 5: you from this, but just stay out of his way
- 52:21Speaker 5: and please make sure you don't get hurt, and Bart says,
- 52:23Speaker 5: and mum, if you punch you in the junk, you'll
- 52:25Speaker 5: get no disrespect from me. Then Lisa points out that's
- 52:27Speaker 5: a Haiku poem. But there goes nowhere, What was the
- 52:31Speaker 5: point of that joke? This is those few I'm like
- 52:33Speaker 5: little bit fear filler gagss. Just while that happened, you know,
- 52:36Speaker 5: well that happened. Then the bell rings and then weighing
- 52:39Speaker 5: in that nobody needs to know that skip ahead. I
- 52:42Speaker 5: thought it was quite funny. And then the moment I
- 52:44Speaker 5: like to fight, it's Marge. And then he introduces Chet
- 52:46Speaker 5: at one hundred and fifty pounds. Let's get ready to
- 52:48Speaker 5: rumba and they he said, we've been ready for an hour.
- 52:50Speaker 2: My car had trouble. Then Chet says he won't hurt her,
- 52:53Speaker 2: and then he does.
- 52:54Speaker 5: He's a dirty dog. He can't trust his check guy
- 52:56Speaker 5: sucker punch. Yeh, he is definitely a pro wrestling manager.
- 53:00Speaker 5: He's not he's not the UFC owner for sure. Then
- 53:02Speaker 5: he ate, so he punches Marge.
- 53:04Speaker 2: Now, having said that, you know, there's a there's a
- 53:06Speaker 2: lot of thoughts like, well, if you get into the ring,
- 53:07Speaker 2: you're gonna take the punches. Yeah, that's true.
- 53:09Speaker 5: You know what you're getting yourself in for. But he
- 53:11Speaker 5: said as I was saying, first time hit a woman
- 53:12Speaker 5: that I didn't love, which is a very dark gag.
- 53:14Speaker 5: Then we're watching the fight at Moe's and most like
- 53:16Speaker 5: get back in your feet up, believing you. Bunny thinks
- 53:18Speaker 5: he's talking to him. No, thank god. That pressures off,
- 53:20Speaker 5: so Barney falls back down to the floor. Then Homer
- 53:23Speaker 5: tries to save her, but he gets stuck in the chairs.
- 53:25Speaker 5: He falls down the stairs and his head gets gender
- 53:26Speaker 5: between two chairs, but then enters the septagon.
- 53:30Speaker 2: Yeah, my mom, will you well, I'm going to knock
- 53:33Speaker 2: you out and moon your corpse.
- 53:34Speaker 1: He gop fight anyone except the man my own size.
- 53:38Speaker 5: We get a shot he of Crusty cheering, Wigham cheering,
- 53:40Speaker 5: and Moleman cheering, which was very reminiscent of two episodes
- 53:43Speaker 5: so the Home are they fall when Home is about
- 53:45Speaker 5: to beaten up and you see the crowd like cheering
- 53:46Speaker 5: for it, and Lisa on ice when Lisa and bart
- 53:49Speaker 5: On the on the hockey game and they're all sort
- 53:51Speaker 5: of like they're about to fight, and you see like
- 53:53Speaker 5: Chief Wigan was the coach like screaming out and mole
- 53:55Speaker 5: Man's ship screaming from the we want blood and that
- 53:57Speaker 5: kind of thing. I thought it was a little bit
- 53:58Speaker 5: of a throwback to that. Then Marge says that she
- 54:00Speaker 5: sees him picking up but that's my son. She runs
- 54:03Speaker 5: over and just beats the shit out of him, and
- 54:04Speaker 5: then he says, oh, she's about to make him tap
- 54:06Speaker 5: And he says, she said, don't let me break your arm.
- 54:08Speaker 5: He says, break out the lips, you can kiss my ass.
- 54:10Speaker 5: And I was like, you could come back. And then
- 54:13Speaker 5: at Moe's he points out a lot of people are talking.
- 54:15Speaker 5: Oh no, I think's Lenny. A lot of people are talking. Now, No,
- 54:17Speaker 5: Most says it. Most says a lot of talking in
- 54:19Speaker 5: this fight for a professional fight. And then he says
- 54:21Speaker 5: that's what happens when you fight a woman. I was like,
- 54:23Speaker 5: all right, well, they're.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Steering game and then they're steering out of the steir.
- 54:30Speaker 5: He says, yeah. Then they break out the bumbones and
- 54:31Speaker 5: watch General Hospital. But then the payoff in really good,
- 54:34Speaker 5: really good, and he breaks out some bon bonds.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 54:36Speaker 5: Then check gives up, but he doesn't actually tap. He says,
- 54:39Speaker 5: you're better than me. Just turn your back on me
- 54:41Speaker 5: and take a bow. And she's like, don't do it much,
- 54:44Speaker 5: don't do it. And you think he's about to fly kicker.
- 54:46Speaker 5: He's going towards her. Everyone's like, oh my god, home
- 54:48Speaker 5: is look o my god. And she turns around, it
- 54:49Speaker 5: calls his bluff fly kicking straight to the side of
- 54:51Speaker 5: the face, knocks him out and she's the winner, and
- 54:54Speaker 5: Marge says that you know she grabs the mic. I
- 54:56Speaker 5: only agreed to do this because I wanted to stop
- 54:58Speaker 5: the violence. The only thing I'm going to be fighting
- 54:59Speaker 5: now is cold. There had no reference of a cold
- 55:02Speaker 5: to this point. I was like, okay, But then they
- 55:04Speaker 5: realize here that everybody has left because two drunk guys
- 55:07Speaker 5: were fighting outside and home. I asked we can go
- 55:09Speaker 5: as well, go watch the fight, and mars Shaws hope it.
- 55:12Speaker 5: We go home for some mixed mixed marital art no
- 55:14Speaker 5: holds barred. I was like, hot, diggity damn. But then
- 55:18Speaker 5: child just leads it to a fight. They run in
- 55:19Speaker 5: each other and we get a freeze frame ending credit
- 55:21Speaker 5: start and then a bit of a Rocky three ending,
- 55:23Speaker 5: but then come back Lisa just knocks me out and
- 55:26Speaker 5: then that is the genuine ending of the episode. So yeah,
- 55:29Speaker 5: I mean hid and miss a lot of this, but
- 55:30Speaker 5: I overall, I thought it did a fine job of
- 55:33Speaker 5: tackling MMA in Springfield.
- 55:35Speaker 2: Let's call it a tea cat. It's a technical knockout episode.
- 55:37Speaker 5: Yes, yeah, yeah, I mean it's not Carolyn Demine's best one,
- 55:40Speaker 5: but I enjoyed it, said, I think I enjoyed this
- 55:42Speaker 5: more going. It felt like a hidden jem for me,
- 55:44Speaker 5: I like, you have seen this course? How did I
- 55:46Speaker 5: not know this episode exists? I was like, ah, this
- 55:48Speaker 5: was this was fine?
