SPEAKER_02: Welcome to the Whiskey Chasers, where we talk about our passion for whiskey and its history, either amongst ourselves or while interviewing distilleries.
0:17

0:19
SPEAKER_02: I'm Steve.
0:20

0:29
unknown: Yeah.
0:29
SPEAKER_00: Around that time.
0:30
SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's when you bought it?
0:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
0:32
SPEAKER_00: Oh.
0:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
0:32
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
0:33
SPEAKER_00: We bought I bought it and it was like, you guys came over, and like, what's this?
0:36
SPEAKER_00: And I was like, oh, Sunbear.
0:38
SPEAKER_00: It's the new thing.
0:39
SPEAKER_00: Like, that's how it's already been that long.
0:41
SPEAKER_00: So have we been doing the podcast that long?
0:43
SPEAKER_02: I don't think it was in 2020 that we started, though.
0:45
SPEAKER_00: It had to have been 2021.
0:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
0:48
SPEAKER_00: Okay.
0:49
SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I must have just bought this though.
0:51
SPEAKER_00: At any rate.
0:52
SPEAKER_00: At any rate.
0:53
SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna drink tonight.
0:55
SPEAKER_00: Actually, I feel like we have a good amount of like really good stuff opened up at this point, Steve.
1:01
SPEAKER_00: And I haven't like really smoked a whole lot of the stuff we've opened up since we've been.
1:07
SPEAKER_00: So it'll be nice to revisit some of the stuff.
1:09
SPEAKER_00: But I did smoke some stuff from the show.
1:11
SPEAKER_00: That Peter Stokey PS80.
1:13
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
1:14
SPEAKER_00: Did you get some of that?
1:14
SPEAKER_00: I did.
1:15
SPEAKER_02: That was the Norwegian or whatever, or Nether Netherland or something like that.
1:19
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:20
SPEAKER_02: So far, that's like really good.
1:22
SPEAKER_02: Is it good?
1:23
SPEAKER_02: Have you tried it?
1:24
SPEAKER_02: I have not tried it.
1:25
SPEAKER_02: I did pick some up, and this was at that uh pipe show that we did in Columbus there.
1:29
SPEAKER_02: So it was the North American Pipe Collectors Society.
1:34
SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
1:34
SPEAKER_02: Is the show we did there.
1:35
SPEAKER_02: And yeah, picked up a couple of tobacco.
1:38
SPEAKER_00: A couple of different blends that they had for people to just pick.
1:41
SPEAKER_00: They didn't have a ton of tobacco, but they did have a lot of pipes.
1:44
SPEAKER_00: Sure, yep.
1:45
SPEAKER_02: A lot of cool people.
1:46
SPEAKER_02: I picked up some some estate pipes, so I'm smoking one of my new ones today.
1:49
SPEAKER_02: Nice.
1:50
SPEAKER_02: What is that one?
1:50
SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm trying to see.
1:52
SPEAKER_02: I it is a stanwa?
1:54
SPEAKER_02: No.
1:54
SPEAKER_02: A big bin of royal silver.
1:57
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
1:57
SPEAKER_02: Yep.
1:58
SPEAKER_02: And so picked it up.
1:59
SPEAKER_02: It's a little bit of a smaller bowl, which is nice because when we're doing these podcasts, I always feel like I waste so much tobacco.
2:06
SPEAKER_02: Tobacco.
2:06
SPEAKER_02: So having a smaller bowl is nice.
2:08
SPEAKER_02: And then this this stem has like this bump system here, and it just fits in the hand really nicely.
2:14
SPEAKER_00: Don't you love when you you pick up a pipe and it fits your hand perfectly?
2:17
SPEAKER_00: It fits really nicely.
2:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
2:19
SPEAKER_00: That's how you know.
2:20
SPEAKER_01: It reminds me of a duck call.
2:21
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it does look like a duck call a little bit.
2:24
SPEAKER_02: So this is gonna be the inaugural smoke in it.
2:27
SPEAKER_02: So we will see how it how it goes.
2:29
SPEAKER_00: All right, and we're gonna load it up with Junkyard Dog.
2:33
SPEAKER_00: Junkyard Dog, perfect.
2:34
SPEAKER_00: Which we have done before because for the people listening, this is gonna be a redo episode.
2:40
SPEAKER_00: I'm just gonna be honest about it.
2:43
SPEAKER_00: This is not the first time this has happened to me.
2:45
SPEAKER_00: We recorded this.
2:46
SPEAKER_00: It was a great recording.
2:48
SPEAKER_00: How would Donald Trump say that?
2:50
SPEAKER_00: It was it was the best recording.
2:51
SPEAKER_00: It was the best.
2:52
SPEAKER_00: It was the best.
2:53
SPEAKER_02: It was a great recording.
2:54
SPEAKER_02: All the other recordings are just yeah.
2:56
SPEAKER_02: And luckily, for this episode and and the other one, neither of them were first timers for us or anything like that.
3:04
SPEAKER_02: We have had these bottles before.
3:06
SPEAKER_02: So so no, no, there was no like uniqueness that we're gonna be missing out on.
3:11
SPEAKER_02: So that's good.
3:11
SPEAKER_02: Other than the junkyard dog.
3:12
SPEAKER_02: We did pop other than the junkyard.
3:14
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we did pop the junkyard tin.
3:16
SPEAKER_00: 20 from 2017.
3:17
SPEAKER_00: And it had so it has some age on it.
3:19
SPEAKER_00: Junkyard dog, but the computer ate the episode.
3:23
SPEAKER_00: That's why we're redoing them.
3:24
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, and we're gonna be smoking tin cup or drinking tin cup.
3:27
SPEAKER_00: We could smoke, we could, I suppose, soak something.
3:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, so uh uh drinking tin cup to go along with our camping theme because you can't camp without tin cup.
3:38
SPEAKER_00: Tin cup is the best, it's the one who's gonna stick to the and of all the ones to lose.
3:42
SPEAKER_00: I was like, this is the camping item.
3:44
SPEAKER_00: We have to redo that.
3:45
SPEAKER_00: So junkyard dog, it's an American blitz, Burlies and Latakia and Bright Virginia.
3:49
SPEAKER_00: So it's gonna go along well with an American bourbon, tin cup, in the camping setting.
3:55
SPEAKER_00: So let's load it up.
3:56
SPEAKER_00: I don't I I just grabbed my glass.
3:59
SPEAKER_02: So uh I know for me, Tin Cup is the bottle I take with me when I go camping.
4:06
SPEAKER_02: Do you go through quite a few bottles of tin cup?
4:08
SPEAKER_02: Uh during the summer I do because because I always take it camping.
4:11
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, uh that's really the only reason I go through it.
4:15
SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's it's a fine whiskey.
4:17
SPEAKER_02: It's it's good, I enjoy it, but uh they really killed it on the marketing uh more than anything else.
4:24
SPEAKER_00: Got a cup spent right in.
4:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
4:27
SPEAKER_02: So it uh it just really fits with uh with the outdoors, right?
4:32
SPEAKER_02: And the bottle shape and the the tin cup that comes with it, the like shot glass and everything, it just makes it really good for outside.
4:43
SPEAKER_01: I've gone through one bottle of tin cup in my adulthood.
4:47
SPEAKER_01: Only really just one, and it was a tenure.
4:50
SPEAKER_01: So many, yeah.
4:51
SPEAKER_01: I it I'm not a fan.
4:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, uh like I'm I'm just I was never like a big, big fan of the liquid inside.
4:58
SPEAKER_01: I love the bottle, I love the idea.
5:00
SPEAKER_01: Like, great idea.
5:02
SPEAKER_01: Other than it needs a handle, it needs a handle, it needs a handle, and I think built in handle like the wife and I are not big campers, right?
5:10
SPEAKER_01: Like, she just she doesn't like the outdoors as much as I do.
5:13
SPEAKER_01: She likes to go hike, right?
5:14
SPEAKER_01: But I mean, I'd I'd be all for taking a bottle of 10 cup hiking with us and drinking while we hike, but it would just be me drinking it.
5:22
SPEAKER_00: Hiking, climbing, camping.
5:25
SPEAKER_01: Let me put a damper on the full hiking experience if I'm the only one drinking the entire thing.
5:29
SPEAKER_01: It is a difference.
5:30
SPEAKER_00: You gotta drink it if you drink while you do it.
5:31
SPEAKER_00: If you're hiking and you're drinking, you have to drink it quick because you don't want to keep carrying that big heavy bottle around.
5:37
SPEAKER_00: Right.
5:37
SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
5:38
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it has too much weight.
5:39
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, didn't we say wasn't because we looked up their maybe I'm jumping ahead, but their website has a has a whole bunch of really cool stuff.
5:48
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I think did they have a satchel or did we did I come up with the idea for a satchel?
5:52
SPEAKER_02: They have they they leaned hard into the outdoorsy stuff, so like their uh stuff online, yeah, they have lots of you know, camping chairs, and I think they have some satchels, they have trekking, but you but with their name on it.
6:08
SPEAKER_02: That the bottle fits in with right, yeah, with the carrier.
6:11
SPEAKER_02: What like my thermo for my my thermoses?
6:13
SPEAKER_02: So they don't have that, but they do have aluminum or steel, steel bottles, steel bottles, like an actual bottle.
6:20
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the bottle of steel is steel, and you can buy it, and it comes with the liquid in it, right?
6:25
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a two-pack, two, it's a two-pack of three, yeah, 375.
6:30
SPEAKER_02: I forgot about that.
6:31
SPEAKER_02: And I was gonna buy it.
6:32
SPEAKER_01: But they also have a fly fishing set.
6:34
SPEAKER_01: That was the other thing we found.
6:36
SPEAKER_02: They had a pull uh rod and reel.
6:38
SPEAKER_02: Oh, yeah, I'm gonna ask that for Christmas.
6:42
SPEAKER_01: Fantastic.
6:43
SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I've Tin Cup has always been on my list of uh don't get mainly because outside of this, or like if we're camping, fishing, if we're outdoors, maybe if it's it's very light.
6:59
SPEAKER_01: And it almost tin cup was around before American single malts were big.
7:06
SPEAKER_01: Sort of, yeah.
7:06
SPEAKER_01: Sort of uh well big, and not before they became around, but before they got big.
7:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and Tin Cup has that same light, almost watery that American single malts have for me.
7:17
SPEAKER_01: And I think that's one of the reasons why I was turned off from it from the beginning was because there wasn't enough oomph to it, there wasn't enough body to it for me.
7:30
SPEAKER_02: And that makes sense based on their history, right?
7:32
SPEAKER_00: And I think kind of what they're going for.
7:34
SPEAKER_00: You don't want too much body.
7:36
SPEAKER_00: That's why when we were looking at bottles to pick for the camping um experience, the camping kind of thing.
7:43
SPEAKER_01: The camping connoisseur, connoisseur, yeah.
7:46
SPEAKER_00: It it's it's you you have to think like this goes along with camping, but would you really want to sit and drink it in the heat?
7:53
SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
7:53
SPEAKER_00: So there was a lot of bottles that were like, that's camping.
7:56
unknown: Right.
7:57
SPEAKER_00: But is it?
7:58
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, Tin Cup actually is camping, and it's not it's thin enough that it would be good for camping, right?
8:06
SPEAKER_00: Right.
8:07
SPEAKER_00: Even after a long hot day.
8:08
SPEAKER_00: I mean, again, you're not you're probably not drinking this at three in the afternoon, but like seven o'clock and eight o'clock at night when the sun's kind of going down and it's cooling down and you're about around the fire, yes, sir.
8:18
SPEAKER_00: Like you're drinking this.
8:19
SPEAKER_01: But I will say, even at three o'clock, with the idea of it being camping light outdoorsy, right?
8:24
SPEAKER_01: It's hot out.
8:26
SPEAKER_01: If I take this on the boat, or if I take this fishing, or if I take this on a hike, I take the anywhere outdoors, I'm perfectly fine drinking this all day with the idea that if I spill any of this or drops or I'm not gonna care.
8:38
SPEAKER_01: Like it's not that big of a deal.
8:40
SPEAKER_01: It's not a big loss, but I'm also not gonna be like, this is not scotch, you know.
8:44
SPEAKER_01: I'm not this is not hardy, this is not heavy.
8:47
SPEAKER_02: This is enjoyable because of the ambiance.
8:51
SPEAKER_02: This is enjoyable because of where you are and what you're doing, what you're doing, yeah.
8:56
SPEAKER_02: Uh, but like, like I said, the the liquid itself is just fine, like it's this is nothing to write home about in terms of that.
9:03
SPEAKER_02: No, they did get their start in the American single malt world, and so Strana Hands started first and before 10 cup, before 10 cup, yeah.
9:14
SPEAKER_00: Which people most people have that backwards, right?
9:16
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
9:17
SPEAKER_02: No, it was it was Strana Hands first, and then because the people that liked Strana Hands wanted a bourbon, one of the guys broke off and decided to start doing the tin cup.
9:29
SPEAKER_01: Well, so I think it's funny that you know the idea that people see tin cup coming before Strana Hands simply because Stranahs came out and no one really paid attention to it.
9:40
SPEAKER_01: The minute this hit the shelves, like even before it really hit the shelves, Proximo is the company that owns it, and they are an advertising.
9:47
SPEAKER_01: I I think Mad Men, every time I think of Proxmo, they are like an ad agency for liquor.
9:53
SPEAKER_01: And they did a fantastic job pushing this even before it hit the shelves.
9:58
SPEAKER_01: And so people are like, oh, this had to cut this is really good.
10:01
SPEAKER_01: This had to come out before anything else.
10:04
SPEAKER_01: This had to come out before Strana Hands, like Strana Hands came about because of this, it's the opposite, right?
10:11
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and it's partly because, like you said, American Single Mall wasn't big yet.
10:17
SPEAKER_02: Um, and nothing rivals bourbon anyway.
10:20
SPEAKER_02: And so, like even now, American Single Mont has gotten bigger, but it's still a bourbon world, and so yeah, it it's but you're right, Proximo uh Proximo is amazing and marketing, and they killed it on this brand in particular.
10:36
SPEAKER_00: I mean, even down the label that that blue and the yellow, off-yellow kind of look, you know, it always those colors are like fallout colors, by the way.
10:45
SPEAKER_00: Like if you've ever played the fallout, it's very it's very much but it kind of harkens back to that 1950s, which I like I think of a lot of cool camping stuff with the 1950s.
10:57
SPEAKER_00: They had a lot of cool like summer camp stuff and like different, you know.
11:01
SPEAKER_00: Uh a lot of cool ideas that came, like came out.
11:05
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just think about I I feel and you know, actually, it kind of reminds me of the first Friday the 13th.
11:11
SPEAKER_00: Because if you remember that first one, it's not set, I mean it's the the first one's set in the 70s, but it goes back the beginning of that first movie, it goes back to like the 50s, and that's where like Jason died or whatever, and they're camping there, and it again it's kind of that those colors and that kind of 50s vibe with the camping archery and canoeing.
11:32
SPEAKER_00: This just kind of like the colors, even and the bottle fits into that kind of the same way, you know what I mean.
11:38
SPEAKER_00: Again, like although marketing was just has done been done excellently, and then it's even got we've talked about this on other episodes because we did that uh we did we've done 10 cap with 10 cup before, haven't we?
11:53
SPEAKER_01: This is our second time, right?
11:56
SPEAKER_02: Not not that's been released it's been released, yeah.
12:00
SPEAKER_00: We've talked about the strand of hands have that same we did do that.
12:04
SPEAKER_01: We did do strand of hands okay because we've talked about that before, the top the top oh so that the the logo yeah the logo is special just to 10 cup, but it's a very I mean we've talked about 10 cup and their logo quite a bit.
12:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I just feel like we've talked about that logo before.
12:21
SPEAKER_02: We very much could have, yeah.
12:23
SPEAKER_00: But it looks that even looks, you know.
12:25
SPEAKER_00: I mean, it's got the what the hiking with the pickaxe or what do you call that?
12:28
SPEAKER_00: The hiking yeah, like mountaineering.
12:31
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, croft uh whatever it is.
12:34
SPEAKER_00: I don't know what you call that.
12:35
SPEAKER_00: The pickaxe?
12:36
SPEAKER_00: I think it is a pickaxe.
12:37
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like the climbing axe thing.
12:39
SPEAKER_00: What do you I don't know what you call that?
12:40
SPEAKER_00: A pickaxe.
12:41
SPEAKER_00: Is that a pickaxe?
12:42
SPEAKER_02: I think so, yeah.
12:43
SPEAKER_02: I think that's just a pickaxe.
12:44
SPEAKER_00: That's like the same thing you use to like dig for gold, right?
12:47
SPEAKER_02: Which is a pickaxe, yeah.
12:49
SPEAKER_02: That's the little ice peg.
12:52
SPEAKER_00: There's probably a word for that that's super cool that we don't know.
12:55
SPEAKER_00: Maybe somebody is listening and like, it's this, you idiot.
12:59
SPEAKER_00: Right.
13:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, ice hammer?
13:01
SPEAKER_00: I don't know what it is.
13:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like a hammer like with cross between a hammer and an axe and a client and a I don't know what it is.
13:09
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
13:09
SPEAKER_00: If you do know, please text us and let us know.
13:12
SPEAKER_00: But I mean, even that looks like super campy.
13:15
SPEAKER_02: It does.
13:15
SPEAKER_02: And uh this was started in 2014, and so it started a little while back now, and it's in Denver.
13:22
SPEAKER_02: It was very much a Colorado company.
13:24
SPEAKER_02: It started the same year that I graduated college and got married.
13:28
SPEAKER_00: Wait a minute.
13:30
SPEAKER_00: This came out in 2014, yeah.
13:32
SPEAKER_00: This came out that when I started my job, right?
13:35
SPEAKER_00: That that's not that long ago.
13:37
SPEAKER_00: So it's that hasn't been out that long.
13:39
SPEAKER_00: Like 10 years.
13:41
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, 11 years.
13:42
SPEAKER_00: I just feel like it's been around a lot longer than that.
13:44
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, holy cow.
13:45
SPEAKER_02: But yeah, it was started by uh Jesse Graber, who was one of the co-founders of Strana Hands, and their story on how Stranahs got started is he was a volunteer firefighter and he got called up to a barn fire and in in in Denver area there.
14:04
SPEAKER_02: And he got up, called up to the Stranahan barn, and while they were talking after everything was was taken care of, started realizing you know they both were distillers.
14:15
SPEAKER_02: I think Stranah was more of a brewer, but Graeber was a distiller and he wanted to start a brand.
14:23
SPEAKER_02: But Graber whiskey doesn't sound great, so because of that, he was like, It's almost like Gerber, right?
14:29
SPEAKER_02: Gerber whiskey for kids for the babies for the kids, so it's like uh if you put up some money, we'll name it after you.
14:38
SPEAKER_02: And so they said, All right, let's do it.
14:40
SPEAKER_02: And that's how Stranah's got going.
14:42
SPEAKER_02: And like I said, after a while, he's been asked to start uh making bourbons and spun off 10 cup after that.
14:51
SPEAKER_00: So so wait, Stranah started in 14.
14:53
SPEAKER_00: No, 10 cup started in 14.
14:55
SPEAKER_00: Stranaghan started.
14:56
SPEAKER_02: Stranah started in uh cut you off spinoff of Stranah, which uh Strany Hands was purchased by Proximo in 2010.
15:06
SPEAKER_02: Okay, so they've been around even longer than that.
15:07
SPEAKER_02: It's been before then that it was started, yeah.
15:10
SPEAKER_02: So 10 cup not made by them, correct?
15:14
SPEAKER_02: It's sourced, yep, it's an MGP, uh, along with some strand of hands added to it.
15:20
SPEAKER_01: They cut it, cut it with a little bit.
15:21
SPEAKER_01: Okay, yeah, this is cut with strand of hands.
15:23
SPEAKER_01: They do a 10 cup tenure bourbon.
15:26
SPEAKER_01: This is an American whiskey.
15:27
SPEAKER_01: This is not a bourbon.
15:28
SPEAKER_01: Correct.
15:29
SPEAKER_01: So because it's cut with the strand of hands.
15:31
SPEAKER_01: I was gonna say, is it because it's cut with the strand of hands or is something with the mash bill?
15:35
SPEAKER_02: Uh this particular one is I don't think you can cut something and call it bourbon.
15:40
SPEAKER_01: You can, yeah.
15:40
SPEAKER_01: But I'm curious what the mash I'm curious about the mash bill too.
15:43
SPEAKER_02: So the mash bill does meet bourbon requirements.
15:46
SPEAKER_02: It's 64% corn, 32 rye, four malted barley.
15:51
SPEAKER_02: And then the single malt being added.
15:55
SPEAKER_00: If this was finished in Stranah's barrels, that'd be fine.
15:58
SPEAKER_02: But the fact that they're actually adding to the adding, yeah, um, we don't know how much single malt is in it, but it's not a lot.
16:06
SPEAKER_00: There'd be a ton because I don't hate it.
16:08
SPEAKER_02: Right exactly.
16:09
SPEAKER_02: That's your giveaway, right there.
16:11
SPEAKER_02: But how old is this guy?
16:12
SPEAKER_02: Do we know the age of this guy?
16:14
SPEAKER_02: Uh on the regular stuff, we don't know.
16:16
SPEAKER_02: They do make a six-year that that's like five bucks more, okay, and then a ten-year.
16:21
SPEAKER_02: So my guess is between between four and six, would be my guess.
16:25
SPEAKER_02: I've seen a six-year.
16:26
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I saw it today when I went to the liquor store.
16:28
SPEAKER_02: It was six years ago.
16:29
SPEAKER_00: How about that?
16:31
SPEAKER_00: The ten years good, and they're all fairly well priced.
16:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
16:34
SPEAKER_00: They also have rye versions.
16:35
SPEAKER_02: They do, they have a rye, um, they have the 10-year, the six-year, and I think that that might be it.
16:42
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
16:43
SPEAKER_02: But is this the only one cut with strain of hands?
16:45
SPEAKER_02: No, they all are.
16:46
SPEAKER_02: Except for the bourbon.
16:47
SPEAKER_02: Well, probably not the bourbon.
16:48
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
16:48
SPEAKER_02: Uh, but other than the bourbon, they're all cut with some strain of hands.
16:51
SPEAKER_01: Interesting.
16:53
SPEAKER_01: Even the rye.
16:54
SPEAKER_01: I believe so.
16:55
SPEAKER_01: Okay.
16:55
SPEAKER_01: Which we've done, we've had the rye.
16:57
SPEAKER_01: I don't know that I've had the rye.
16:58
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
16:59
SPEAKER_01: I don't remember the rye.
17:00
SPEAKER_00: It's like it's like green.
17:02
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we want it.
17:04
SPEAKER_00: Same same color.
17:05
SPEAKER_00: Did you see that today?
17:06
SPEAKER_00: The rye?
17:06
SPEAKER_02: I did not see the rye.
17:07
SPEAKER_02: I saw the six year, the ten year, and this one.
17:09
SPEAKER_02: I don't I know I've seen the rye.
17:11
SPEAKER_02: I just don't know.
17:12
SPEAKER_02: I'm not crazy, right?
17:13
SPEAKER_02: No, I've seen the other thing.
17:14
SPEAKER_02: It exists, and I have seen it in liquor stores here in Ohio.
17:17
SPEAKER_00: I feel like I had a bottle and I drank it.
17:19
SPEAKER_00: Almost positive.
17:20
SPEAKER_02: Did I drink it with you?
17:21
SPEAKER_00: Yes.
17:23
SPEAKER_02: Well, apparently it's very memorable.
17:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, very memorable.
17:26
SPEAKER_00: I remember being like, this is bullet rye, which is this is kind of this is kind of bullet tin cup.
17:31
SPEAKER_02: I find it interesting that Graeber is the head distiller of Strana Hands and started with all that, and then he cut broke this off and doesn't distill it.
17:40
SPEAKER_02: It's all sourced.
17:41
SPEAKER_02: I don't know why not.
17:42
SPEAKER_02: Why not distill it?
17:43
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, I don't know.
17:44
SPEAKER_02: Unless it's just because he's trying to work for Strana Hands and like that's where he's spending his energy and time.
17:51
SPEAKER_01: I just feel like it wouldn't be too hard to I mean it would make sense if MGP owned it, that he'd be getting it from MGP.
18:00
SPEAKER_01: It'd be cheaper, but I'm kind of surprised.
18:04
SPEAKER_01: MGP hasn't tried, yeah.
18:05
SPEAKER_01: Well, this is Proximo's baby.
18:07
SPEAKER_01: This is their oh yeah, this is their thing.
18:10
SPEAKER_01: Um I don't know.
18:17
SPEAKER_01: Because the only other one at the time was Pendleton.
18:20
SPEAKER_01: And Pendleton might be their their branch in a Canadian whiskey, too.
18:26
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
18:26
SPEAKER_02: But Pendleton does have Canadian rooms in it.
18:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
18:30
SPEAKER_01: But I don't remember if it was uh Proxmo started or if Proximo bought out Pendleton.
18:36
SPEAKER_01: Because I think this one wasn't a buyout.
18:38
SPEAKER_02: This was their like Yeah, this one they started, yeah.
18:41
SPEAKER_02: Yep, they they bought Strana Hands in 2010, and then they came out with this in 2014.
18:49
SPEAKER_00: You know what though, it is good.
18:50
SPEAKER_00: Like it is it's not so yesterday I was looking for something to drink, and I just haven't really like branched out anymore.
19:00
SPEAKER_00: I've been drinking like pretty good stuff for a minute, and I was looking and I found what that I think it's like a nine-year or ten year.
19:08
SPEAKER_00: It was Canadian Club.
19:09
SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay, yeah.
19:10
SPEAKER_00: Which I'm a fan, you know, I like Canadian Club, and um, but it wasn't even their bottom, it was like the one I got that was in my thing might be a nine-year, something like that.
19:18
SPEAKER_00: And I poured some of it and I drank it and I was like, you know what?
19:21
SPEAKER_00: Boy, this tastes cheap, right?
19:23
SPEAKER_00: Like, and because it's been a while since I've had it and everything else, and I was like, man, this is thin and cheap and ethanol-y, and I forgot, I forget.
19:31
SPEAKER_00: I've always been a big like proponent.
19:33
SPEAKER_00: I've always been like, you know, hold on, Canadian club's good, you know what I mean?
19:36
SPEAKER_00: Like, but I had it yesterday and I was like, God, this is pretty, you know, bottom barrel, right?
19:43
SPEAKER_00: And um now I'm comparing this to that.
19:46
SPEAKER_00: And wow, like this is like, you know, this is like major league, and that was like backyard baseball.
19:54
SPEAKER_00: Really?
19:54
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
19:55
SPEAKER_00: I mean, really, like when you compare the two.
19:57
SPEAKER_00: So I I think for us, sometimes we get we forget, right?
20:01
SPEAKER_00: Because we we start trying other, then we're kind of to that point that we forget that actually this stuff still is worth its weight.
20:08
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and this is what I would consider a cheap bottle.
20:11
SPEAKER_02: And so it was after tax, it was still less than 25 bucks.
20:14
SPEAKER_02: It was 24 something.
20:16
SPEAKER_00: So a good reminder that this is actually a really good cheap bottle because there are bottles like the like this Canadian club is probably not much less than that.
20:25
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and I mean you can put compare the side, the the two, granite one's a Canadian and everything else, but it's like you forget that this actually is God, it has its place.
20:34
SPEAKER_00: And for a camping bottle, you don't want it to be too expensive.
20:36
SPEAKER_00: So I mean exactly you're talking 25 bucks for a bottle that comes with its own cup.
20:41
SPEAKER_00: Not bad.
20:42
SPEAKER_00: Not bad, not bad.
20:43
SPEAKER_00: And the bottle is shaped.
20:45
SPEAKER_00: Did we talk about this this time?
20:46
SPEAKER_02: No, that yeah, that bottle shape is great for this guy because it doesn't roll around, it's a hexagonal kind of look to it, so it doesn't roll about in your bag or across the truck bed or whatever, you know, or down a hill if you're down the hills, yeah, whatever you're doing.
21:02
SPEAKER_00: I appreciate across the truck bed.
21:04
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, across the truck bed.
21:07
SPEAKER_00: He meant not inside, but outside.
21:09
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
21:09
SPEAKER_00: On the bed, yeah, on the bed.
21:11
SPEAKER_02: Not the cat.
21:11
SPEAKER_02: I know.
21:12
SPEAKER_02: Not the cat.
21:13
SPEAKER_02: Surely not the bed.
21:14
SPEAKER_02: Surely not the cat.
21:16
SPEAKER_00: But that is that's a cool little unique design feature that people just think it's aesthetic, but actually it's functional for camping and uh for hiking, camping, any kind of outdoorsy stuff.
21:26
SPEAKER_01: It's very functional.
21:26
SPEAKER_00: You drop that you know on a kind of a bank, it's not gonna just roll.
21:30
unknown: Yeah.
21:31
SPEAKER_02: Like I said, their their website is almost more of a gear website than it is a whiskey website.
21:37
SPEAKER_02: I mean, they sell so much stuff in terms of gear, like for camping.
21:42
SPEAKER_01: And they have some, I mean, they again, it's Proxmo that owns them.
21:45
SPEAKER_01: Proximo is very much a marketing company.
21:49
SPEAKER_01: But they're probably the only brand that I've seen that does clothing or materials or like any kind of like Hatware, glassware, anything like that.
22:03
SPEAKER_01: They do it really, really well.
22:04
SPEAKER_00: Well, I think it's like they're getting the same, it's almost like they partnered with REI and they're getting that stuff and putting their name on it.
22:10
SPEAKER_00: Which I mean, if REI could sell liquor, this would fit right in.
22:13
SPEAKER_00: Like put that on the shelf, and like people would be like, Yep, and we also have liquor.
22:18
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no, it's gonna be 40 bucks there.
22:20
SPEAKER_00: But it's gonna be a little bit more money, but you're in the co-op.
22:23
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, right.
22:24
SPEAKER_02: That's true.
22:24
SPEAKER_02: You do get your five percent back.
22:28
SPEAKER_00: I am gonna use my deductible.
22:30
SPEAKER_00: You bet your sweet buns, I'm gonna do it.
22:32
SPEAKER_01: I actually have uh speaking of their stuff, I've got a Chris and I have small pint glasses, maybe from their metal pint glasses.
22:40
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, um, and then they also tin.
22:42
SPEAKER_01: Tin, yeah, a tin cup.
22:44
SPEAKER_01: A tin cup.
22:44
SPEAKER_01: They also did a um, I don't know if they still do them, but they did uh mugs for camping.
22:50
SPEAKER_01: So they were out of aluminum or like tin.
22:52
SPEAKER_01: And they had the handle was a carabiner.
22:54
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
22:55
SPEAKER_02: That's for sale on their website.
22:57
SPEAKER_02: So they still have it.
22:57
SPEAKER_00: They still got that.
22:58
SPEAKER_00: They ought to have zippos, they had to partner with Zippo too.
23:01
SPEAKER_00: Zippo would be another good brand to do that.
23:03
SPEAKER_00: With that logo, right?
23:06
SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a lot, I mean it's endless.
23:08
SPEAKER_00: And actually, uh, this is one of the one of the bottles that I will fairly regularly pour into my Stanley flask.
23:16
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
23:16
SPEAKER_00: And I take that flask camping.
23:19
SPEAKER_00: I mean, uh, I take it golfing mostly.
23:22
SPEAKER_00: Um, but I would take that fishing because it's the perfect size.
23:25
SPEAKER_00: It's that, you know, it's not like a fat one, it's like the more of the thin one.
23:29
SPEAKER_00: It's like long and skinny, fits right in the shirt pocket.
23:32
SPEAKER_00: Like it's perfect.
23:33
SPEAKER_00: But I will fill that up with 10 cups pretty often.
23:35
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
23:36
SPEAKER_00: That's like my so tin cups kind of my go-to flask whiskey.
23:40
SPEAKER_00: And again, that kind of checks all those boxes.
23:43
SPEAKER_00: Like, because if you're taking a flask, it's one of those hobbies or activities that's kind of outdoorsy adventure, yeah, kind of a thing.
23:52
SPEAKER_01: Do you think they would have survived or uh do you think they would have survived or even done well within the whiskey bourbon community had they not gone after or gear went geared towards like camping, hiking, outdoorsy stuff?
24:06
SPEAKER_02: They'd have to have some sort of a niche.
24:08
SPEAKER_02: Like I said, the the whiskey itself is fine.
24:10
SPEAKER_02: And so they have to match it with some sort of a niche, some sort of a reason to have it.
24:15
SPEAKER_02: Um, another thing that we haven't talked about though, that you do need at least a little bit of quality because if you're camping, it's gonna be warm.
24:22
SPEAKER_02: You're not necessarily having ice or like mixers as much.
24:26
SPEAKER_02: That's what I was saying.
24:27
SPEAKER_02: And so it's gotta be at least good enough that you can drink it straight.
24:31
SPEAKER_02: I mean, yeah, there is campers that are gonna have coat chest coolers and ice and all that kind of stuff.
24:37
SPEAKER_02: But if you're doing the mountaineering stuff or the more the backpack, like that kind of thing, you're not gonna have ice.
24:43
SPEAKER_00: I mean, this is really designed to be just drank as is.
24:47
SPEAKER_00: Uh, and actually, it would probably make pretty good cowboy coffee.
24:50
SPEAKER_00: I probably would.
24:50
SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
24:51
SPEAKER_00: But um but you know, I think you hit it there, Steve, because what I don't get with this is like any sort of ethanol-y, young, it doesn't taste young.
25:02
SPEAKER_00: No, it doesn't, it's not bitey for the people that are like afraid of that.
25:08
SPEAKER_00: No, um, it's not it's not too thin, but it's thin enough.
25:12
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
25:13
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I really think it kind of checks a lot of the boxes.
25:16
SPEAKER_00: It does.
25:17
SPEAKER_01: See, I would say it's not too thin.
25:20
SPEAKER_01: It is thin.
25:20
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, but it's not for as thin as it is and as light as it is, people are probably like, oh, that's super young.
25:26
SPEAKER_01: Like at the look.
25:27
SPEAKER_01: It's gotta be young.
25:28
SPEAKER_01: But it it to your point, it doesn't taste young.
25:31
SPEAKER_00: Again, I almost wish I could we we should just go get it.
25:34
SPEAKER_00: But if you were to try this next to like Canadian the Canadian clever was like, you're like, oh no, that's thin thin, like that's paper thin.
25:42
SPEAKER_00: This is this is more construction paper.
25:45
SPEAKER_02: And we have no idea how much uh strain hands I use to cut.
25:49
SPEAKER_02: We do not.
25:50
SPEAKER_02: They don't they don't disclose how much there is, um, but it's pretty well accepted that it's not a lot, so it's not like a 50-50 or anything like that.
25:58
SPEAKER_02: It's gonna be less than five percent.
26:00
SPEAKER_02: Really?
26:00
SPEAKER_02: You think it's less than five?
26:02
SPEAKER_02: I would say I would say probably 10 to 15.
26:04
SPEAKER_02: You think so?
26:04
SPEAKER_02: Oh, I I don't think I'd go that high.
26:08
SPEAKER_00: I don't know, it's that'd be nice.
26:09
SPEAKER_00: We should find out, yeah.
26:10
SPEAKER_00: It'd be nice to know.
26:11
SPEAKER_00: I think 10 would be cool.
26:13
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, leave it at that.
26:14
SPEAKER_00: Um, because also with Strana Hands, and we talked about it, uh, is they use a little bit of that water.
26:20
SPEAKER_00: Do yep, it's the Rocky Mountain water the Rocky Mountains, and I think that that's so cool.
26:25
SPEAKER_00: Just hate single malts, but I love the and I think I mentioned this with Strana Hands.
26:29
SPEAKER_00: Why don't they make tin cup there with the water?
26:32
SPEAKER_02: Yep, which they so this is made with Rocky Mountain water.
26:37
SPEAKER_02: This is this is so I don't know shipping that to freaking MGP in Indiana.
26:43
SPEAKER_01: But they well, I've got to believe they they age it, I gotta believe they probably age it out in well, they might cut it with the water, yeah.
26:50
SPEAKER_00: And maybe that's what they mean by no, they're probably cutting it, yeah.
26:53
SPEAKER_00: Could they they're proofing it down with the water, sure.
26:55
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
26:56
SPEAKER_00: Which but it's not it's not like grain to glass from the Rocky Mountains, you know, the Rocky Mountains, which I think they're missing out on that.
27:04
SPEAKER_01: But if you're so the reason I think it might be 10 to 15 per I wonder if it's 10 to 15 percent cut is if they're getting it and aging it out there, we're probably what talking by the time they pull it out from the barrel, 120 proof, maybe 126 if that.
27:25
SPEAKER_01: If it's any higher, then they really gotta proof it down with some water.
27:28
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
27:29
SPEAKER_01: Because it's 90 94 proof.
27:33
unknown: Right?
27:33
SPEAKER_00: Is that what it is?
27:34
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's um yeah, uh no, 84 proof.
27:39
SPEAKER_01: 84.
27:39
SPEAKER_01: There we go.
27:40
SPEAKER_00: So I mean they're really actually got a bit of flavor for being only 84.
27:43
SPEAKER_01: Which makes me wonder if they cut quite a bit with strand hands and then the rest with water.
27:48
SPEAKER_01: Because that still has quite a bit of flavor, like you're saying, quite a bit of flavor for 84 proof.
27:53
SPEAKER_01: I mean, they gotta be doing something to add in flavor.
27:57
SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's that's a lot of flavor for that.
28:01
SPEAKER_02: It is.
28:02
SPEAKER_02: It is, it's a lot of flavor for that, for that uh proof.
28:07
SPEAKER_00: I mean when you put it up against like say a JTS Brown 80.
28:12
SPEAKER_00: Not even the bottle and bottom.
28:13
SPEAKER_00: I mean the 80, the half a gallon plastic container.
28:16
SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
28:17
SPEAKER_01: And that that's not thin, but oh, it is aged in Indiana, so it's not aged there.
28:22
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so they age it in Indiana, they blend a small amount of where do they bottle it?
28:26
SPEAKER_01: Does it say?
28:27
SPEAKER_01: Um doesn't say where they bottle it, just so they I guess in their bottom distilled and aged in Indiana, blended with a small amount of Colorado single malt.
28:36
SPEAKER_01: Then these whiskies are cut with Rocky Mountain water.
28:41
SPEAKER_01: So they blend it, they blend it first and then cut it with the water.
28:46
SPEAKER_00: You just think that they would want to do all that in-house.
28:49
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you would think I think that's what they would say.
28:53
SPEAKER_00: I just don't get it.
28:54
SPEAKER_00: When you have access to a still and a still, like, why are you like shipping it across the country like that?
29:00
SPEAKER_00: Unless it land as a premium for them, yeah, but then build up, make make it the world's skinniest, tallest rick house.
29:06
SPEAKER_01: I don't know, but but I mean, you're also talking four years after, I mean, just four years after Proximo bought them, so they were probably around for a little while prior to that.
29:15
SPEAKER_01: So their stuff was probably aging.
29:17
SPEAKER_01: They had some time to if they wanted to do whiskey, you know, or bourbon, they had time they could distill and let it sit.
29:25
SPEAKER_02: You would think, yeah.
29:27
SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't know.
29:27
SPEAKER_02: And the only thing I can think of is maybe there's some animosity there between strain of hands and tin cup that they don't want to use their stills for it, but I don't know.
29:36
SPEAKER_00: That's I put all that aside, and I and I would literally just do the 10 cup, I wouldn't even do a whole lot more with the like very different variations, but I would really make 10 cup and strain of hands and call it a day.
29:47
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, put those together, put them together and really kind of work on the marketing angle a little bit more.
29:53
SPEAKER_00: And the they're already doing a lot of the other accessories, but I would really kind of throw that in there, right?
29:59
SPEAKER_00: And maybe if if look, if I own this place, my distillery, like my shop would be my own, like super awesome, super cool, almost standalone sporting goods type of store, like an old school one, like like uh what do you call that?
30:18
SPEAKER_00: Like an like an old tackle, like bait and tackle shop, but a little bit more camping involved.
30:22
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
30:24
SPEAKER_00: Real throwback type stuff.
30:26
SPEAKER_00: That would be cool.
30:27
SPEAKER_00: And then, but it'd be a distillery, right?
30:29
SPEAKER_00: But I'd sell my own crap there, and I'd be like, Oh, you want a canoe while you while you're here?
30:33
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, uh, we we sell them, you know.
30:34
SPEAKER_01: You bring up a good point.
30:35
SPEAKER_01: Tin Cup could do really well if they made it themselves.
30:38
SPEAKER_01: Their entire place was up in the mountains, yeah, and they had a hostel there.
30:43
SPEAKER_01: They also ran.
30:45
SPEAKER_00: You get what I'm saying?
30:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you could make your own lodge, yeah.
30:48
SPEAKER_00: Like you could really kind of capitalize on it.
30:53
SPEAKER_00: With a breakfast joint right, like the biggest, the biggest flatjack this side of God knows what, you know what I mean?
31:00
SPEAKER_00: But like, yeah, you really kind of make it a destination for sure.
31:03
SPEAKER_00: Why not?
31:04
SPEAKER_00: They're missing out, they're missing out.
31:06
SPEAKER_00: This is not a bad idea.
31:07
SPEAKER_00: Good to hire us to do this.
31:08
SPEAKER_00: A couple of scouts or whatever, like, hey, you want to learn how to fish?
31:11
SPEAKER_00: We got a stream, sign up.
31:14
SPEAKER_02: National Jamboree is hosted there for the Boy Scouts every year.
31:16
SPEAKER_02: There you go.
31:17
SPEAKER_02: There you go.
31:18
SPEAKER_00: And every all the adults can get drunk and and all the kids can just light stuff on fire.
31:22
SPEAKER_00: Like exactly, yeah.
31:23
SPEAKER_01: Just a little farther away from the detail.
31:25
SPEAKER_00: This is this isn't a gold mine of the biggest.
31:27
SPEAKER_01: I think it would be.
31:28
SPEAKER_01: It really would.
31:29
SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
31:30
SPEAKER_00: Because even during the winter, you could have it for skiing and stuff.
31:32
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
31:33
SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's all there's all all uh season activities that would go along with this bottle.
31:40
SPEAKER_00: You you you would have plenty and plenty of stuff to keep you busy throughout the entire year.
31:44
SPEAKER_03: Oh, yeah.
31:45
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and uh, people would, I think it's a destination.
31:47
SPEAKER_00: Why don't they do that?
31:48
SPEAKER_00: There's I don't think there's any distilleries that are like that.
31:51
SPEAKER_02: No, there's not that's such a there's no like loss lodge or such a waste, yeah.
31:56
SPEAKER_01: And they're in the perfect type distillery in the mountains.
32:00
SPEAKER_01: They are in the spot for it.
32:02
SPEAKER_01: And they've got the perfect brand that they've built for it.
32:04
SPEAKER_02: No, I mean nobody else could do that and pull it off.
32:06
SPEAKER_02: Speaking of Australian hands, I was listening to another podcast.
32:10
SPEAKER_02: Uh it's called Marketplace.
32:12
SPEAKER_02: It's all about it's a it's a business finance kind of podcast.
32:15
SPEAKER_02: But on Fridays, they do uh they do uh a show and the the hosts usually make a cocktail or whatever and answer questions and stuff.
32:24
SPEAKER_02: Um but one of the hosts oftentimes drinks bourbon and makes like bourbon cocktails, and it's a lady, and she uh was doing it, and she got a bottle of Blue Peak from Strana Hands to make with it because she was out in Aspen doing a doing a thing.
32:41
SPEAKER_02: But she she couldn't figure out uh what to call it, so she called it like Blue Peak was the name of the distillery, and it was uh with uh I forget how she worded it, but Strana Hands was not the parent company.
32:58
SPEAKER_02: It was like Strana Hands, it was like made by Strana Hands for Blue Peak or something.
33:03
SPEAKER_02: She named it really weird, yeah.
33:04
SPEAKER_02: And it was it was like, wow, like I thought you'd be better than this because you drink a lot of bourbon, but because and she usually she does a lot of like cocktails and like really cool cocktails with it.
33:16
SPEAKER_02: I was really uh a little disappointed in her, so uh yeah, Kimberly Adams disciplined better.
33:22
unknown: You're better than this.
33:25
SPEAKER_02: Maybe she's not, maybe she's not better than that.
33:27
SPEAKER_02: Maybe I don't know, that's just what it is.
33:29
SPEAKER_02: So yeah, she's uh yeah, but she was out there and she got a bottle of that and she enjoyed it, but yeah, and just really couldn't figure out what it was.
33:36
SPEAKER_02: Um also all this talk of gear.
33:39
SPEAKER_02: Um, I also watch a TV show called Taskmaster, and it's uh Taskmaster Taskmaster.
33:46
SPEAKER_02: You've maybe seen clips of it on like TikTok or Instagram reels or whatever, um, because a British show, and they're it the only way you can watch them in the US is on YouTube.
33:57
SPEAKER_02: Okay.
33:57
SPEAKER_02: But they just YouTube?
33:59
SPEAKER_02: On YouTube, yeah.
34:00
SPEAKER_02: But they go out and they you know do little silly things.
34:03
SPEAKER_02: But uh when they so like us, yeah, like us.
34:07
SPEAKER_02: When they say, like, oh you've you've you've made a good set or your your your gear is whatever, they call it a lovely piece of kit.
34:15
SPEAKER_00: A lovely piece of kit because your kit is your your like pack or whatever, your setup is your kit.
34:22
SPEAKER_02: And I was like, I freaking love that.
34:27
SPEAKER_02: Like you guys nailed the light.
34:29
SPEAKER_02: I I love that.
34:30
SPEAKER_02: That's a that's a bloody good piece of kit right there.
34:32
SPEAKER_00: I really like calling my setups a kit.
34:35
SPEAKER_01: I'll get to that.
34:36
SPEAKER_01: Got a good kit over there.
34:38
SPEAKER_00: People people call a lot of different gear their kit.
34:40
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I've heard that uh quite a bit.
34:42
SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
34:44
SPEAKER_02: Uh so tin cup.
34:46
SPEAKER_02: Tin cup.
34:47
SPEAKER_02: Uh more zero.
34:48
SPEAKER_02: It's a perfect bottle for camping.
34:50
SPEAKER_02: The camping bottle.
34:52
SPEAKER_02: I mean, and this tobacco has gone great with it.
34:55
SPEAKER_02: And so, yeah, it it it's an American blend.
34:58
SPEAKER_00: It's an American blend.
34:59
SPEAKER_00: Solid kind of, it's got some some some smoky English components, but it's got that burly, that American burly, and like the Virginias just kind of give it that like it's not too overly English, you know what I mean?
35:12
SPEAKER_00: Which I think just little bits.
35:15
SPEAKER_01: So you guys smoke pipe uh while you're camping, right?
35:20
SPEAKER_00: Oh, absolutely.
35:21
SPEAKER_00: I would not camp without one, actually.
35:23
SPEAKER_01: It's it's it's a staple.
35:24
SPEAKER_00: I I think I would turn if I forgot it, I'd just go home.
35:27
SPEAKER_01: What kind of tobacco do you guys take with you?
35:29
SPEAKER_01: Is it all good for kinds, or you stick to one the entire time?
35:32
SPEAKER_00: I mean, I would take something like this.
35:34
SPEAKER_00: Like I would take a blend.
35:35
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, usually something.
35:38
SPEAKER_02: I don't really like necessarily an English blend.
35:40
SPEAKER_02: I think that's a little bit too different.
35:43
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
35:44
SPEAKER_02: And so I I want something a little bit lighter, like a Virginia or a burly.
35:48
SPEAKER_02: Um and so maybe a vesper would be uh or a vapor would maybe be strong.
36:00
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like a burly Virginia.
36:02
SPEAKER_00: Uh I think Parique goes well with camping, and I think it kind of keeps the mosquitoes away.
36:07
SPEAKER_00: So uh I I always stick with like more of a burly.
36:10
SPEAKER_00: Uh uh Honda Bookshop.
36:12
SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
36:13
SPEAKER_00: I speak that quick because it's easy, it's very easy to light and keep lit.
36:18
SPEAKER_00: Uh it's just mostly burly and perique.
36:22
SPEAKER_00: I think there's a hair of Virginias in there, but it's uh not aromatic.
36:26
SPEAKER_00: You don't want an aromatic when you're camping.
36:29
SPEAKER_00: I just don't think that well again, we're talking about like it's hot.
36:32
unknown: Yeah.
36:34
SPEAKER_00: Besides, it's like I just don't know if the sweet kind of smell when you're out there with the again, it goes with the camp for the fat fire's already so aromatic, and then you're throwing some sweet like stuff into the air.
36:49
SPEAKER_00: It's just not I just don't think that that's the place for a for a aromatic.
36:55
SPEAKER_00: I agree.
36:56
SPEAKER_02: It's kind of uh you're doing a manly thing, and you don't want it smelling like uh cherry pie.
37:03
SPEAKER_00: So I mean it it's it's would you drink a cocktail like you know, like a really like an old would you drink an old fashioned while you're camping?
37:11
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not necessarily and really an aromatics kind of like that, where it's like a fru-frou kind of a thing.
37:16
SPEAKER_00: Uh, you want a manly, like a like a bird.
37:19
SPEAKER_00: I mean, honestly, OTC's probably the way to go, like over-the-counter tobaccos with the in a pouch, like maybe Sir Walter Raleigh.
37:27
SPEAKER_00: Okay, probably be perfect, like the non-aromatic, yeah.
37:30
SPEAKER_00: Which, if you've ever smoked it or looked at it, Sir Walter Riley comes in a great pouch that you can put in your pocket again, fishing vest, whatever.
37:38
SPEAKER_00: So that perfect that part's perfect.
37:40
SPEAKER_00: You can freaking sit on that stuff, put it in your back pocket.
37:42
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but if you look at it, it looks like granola.
37:46
SPEAKER_00: You ever seen the cut of that stuff?
37:47
SPEAKER_00: Literally looks like granola.
37:49
SPEAKER_00: So you you stuff your pipe full of that and smoke it, and it's just you're off to the races.
37:53
SPEAKER_00: But it's mostly just burly with there's like a hint of cocoa in there, but not like an aromatic version of it.
37:59
SPEAKER_00: It's just like a very it's it's topped the way Carter Hall is topped, which it's not an aromatic, but there is some technically something on urban flavoring in Carter Hall that most people don't realize.
38:12
SPEAKER_03: Really?
38:12
SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just very, very minute amount.
38:16
SPEAKER_00: But like a pouch tobacco would be great for this, for camping, or you know, but I think what we're smoking is great too.
38:24
SPEAKER_02: It is, and it's smoking really nicely.
38:26
SPEAKER_02: Mine's up going down to ash really well.
38:28
SPEAKER_02: Oh, and you got your new pipe, too.
38:29
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there's a new pipe, so it's it's smoking pretty well.
38:32
SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm relighting a lot, but it's smoking good while it's going.
38:36
SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
38:37
SPEAKER_00: How how is that new pipe working out?
38:38
SPEAKER_02: Is it good?
38:39
SPEAKER_02: It is good.
38:40
SPEAKER_02: Um, I'm liking like I said, I really like the stem and the the kind of like bump on it, it just fits really nicely.
38:46
SPEAKER_02: Um, like I said, I'm I'm relighting a lot, but that's also because I'm talking a lot.
38:50
SPEAKER_02: Uh but I said it's burning really nicely.
38:54
SPEAKER_02: Um, it's not not getting too hot or anything, so it's like a good length.
38:59
SPEAKER_00: I don't know because you smoke it hot.
39:00
SPEAKER_00: Like I've noticed like my bull bowl is cool.
39:03
SPEAKER_00: I almost can't even get it hot.
39:05
SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
39:06
SPEAKER_00: Which is kind of a good, I mean it's a it's a cool burning smoke, yeah, which is always something you're looking for.
39:10
SPEAKER_00: Any pipe smoker's looking for that.
39:12
SPEAKER_00: Right.
39:12
SPEAKER_02: And uh I've never had a big Ben before, so I don't know anything about that uh that type of that the company or anything like that.
39:20
SPEAKER_02: But I think he was uh little John's brother.
39:23
SPEAKER_02: Oh, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
39:24
SPEAKER_00: His big brother.
39:26
SPEAKER_00: Big brother.
39:26
SPEAKER_00: He's always minding the time.
39:28
SPEAKER_02: He's always, yeah.
39:29
SPEAKER_00: Big Ben was.
39:30
SPEAKER_02: Ferry's a clockmaster.
39:32
SPEAKER_02: All right.
39:33
SPEAKER_02: Well, until next time, gentlemen.
