- 1:41Back of a lot of fun coming your way tonight here in the Kingdom to see the Griffys, Ken Senior and Ken Junior play and make their first appearance in a major league uniform together.
- 1:51And it happens to be right here in Seattle in a Mariners uniform. Plenty of excitement on hand.
- 1:56And we'll be back and have a look at tonight's historic dining lineup right after this time out.
- 2:02So we're driving along. My car and I. Fuel low, hunger high. But time for only one stop. Then I spot a welcome sight. A Chevron Food Mart. Gasoline and snacks to go and go we do. The freeway is ours again.
- 2:22Chevron Food Mart. One stop that kept us going. At the St. Petersburg Times, press operators had to wait while pages were sent by hand from an office miles away.
- 2:40But then with the help of GTE, they came up with a way to send those pages over fiber optic phone lines, saving precious time and money.
- 2:50You see, if GTE, it's not just communications we offer, it's solutions. GTE. The power is on.
- 3:00What is it Purvis? I've developed a subliminal disclaimer for our Bud Summer radio commercial.

- 3:52I'll meet my daughter. Oh, boy. I would vote for you.
- 4:06Here's a look at the shiny lineup as the Mariners take the field. And for the first time ever, father and son taking the field for the first time.
- 4:14Ken Griffey, Sr. trotting out the left field. Ken Griffey, Jr. trotting out the center field. Quite a historic moment in the history of the game of baseball.
- 4:23Junior waves to his father on his way out the center. Here's a look at tonight's shiny lineup. First of all, for the visiting Kansas City Royals as the fans give the Griffey's the standing ovation.
- 4:34Leading off at third base for Kansas City, Kevin Sipes. Second in center field, Brian McRae. Third is designated hitter, Danny Tynable.
- 4:44Jackson will be in left field and bad cleanup. Hitting fifth is the catcher, Mike McFarland. Manning sixth in right field is Jim Eisenreich.
- 4:52Willie Wilson was a late scratch in the small game, so Eisenreich will be in right.
- 4:56Manning seventh over at first base is Bill Picotta playing for the injured George Brad, who has a little bit of a snort back after a collision a couple of days in Oakland with A's pitcher, Scott Sanderson.
- 5:07So Picotta will be at first base in bad seventh. Hitting eighth at second base is the veteran, Frank White.
- 5:13And manning ninth at shortstop, Steve Jeltsin, on the mound making his 20th time of the year.
- 5:18And his second against the M's right-hander, Storm Davis. Davis, a winner of seven, he has lost nine. And he has an earned run average of 4.62.
- 5:26For the Seattle Mariners, and we hope that you are going to keep score for this ball game and save your score sheet.
- 5:32Here's a look at the signing lineup. First of all for the Mariners.
- 5:35Leading off at second base, Harold Reynolds. Manning second in left field, making his Mariner debut, Ken Griffey, Sr.
- 5:44He was hitting 206 with the Cincinnati Reds this year with a home run and eight runs batted in.
- 5:50Manning third in center field, a kid, Ken Griffey, Jr. Right now, Jr. and Sr. playing a little catch in the outfield right now.
- 5:58Manning clean up the designated hitter is Alvin Davis.
- 6:01Hitting fifth at first base, Pete O'Brien. Jay Buhner is in right field and he'll bat sixth.
- 6:07Hitting seventh over at third base, Edgar Martinez. Manning eighth is the catcher, Scott Bradley.
- 6:12And 89th over at shortstop is Omar Vizcal and on the mound making his 27th start of the year and his second against the Royals.
- 6:19Left-hander Randy Johnson. Johnson with a mark of 12-8 with a 3.44 ERA.
- 6:25Yes indeed, history being made as we speak here in the kingdom. Ken Griffey, Sr. in left, Ken Griffey, Jr. in center field.
- 6:33The first time in 114 years of Major League Baseball history that a father and son playing for the same ball club.
- 6:39The Yams against Kansas City for the play-by-play. Here's Dave.
- 6:43Thank you Rick and a very pleasant good evening everybody and welcome to baseball history here at the Kingdome tonight.
- 6:48The one thing that I noticed first when the players, the Mariners were announced to go to their defensive position, Ken Griffey went to left field.
- 6:55Jr. came to home plate, said something to Rich Garcia as if to say, take it easy on the old man tonight, will you?
- 7:01Garcia grinned from ear to ear and then Griffey went on out to center field.
- 7:05So we're set to play baseball and Kevin Siteser leads it off and Randy Johnson's first pitch is the fastball that misses down low.
- 7:11Ball one, one ball and no strikes. Begin at the 738 Pacific Daylight time here this evening.
- 7:17Siteser right-handed batter hitting 283 and R.J.'s 1-0 pitch on the way and the fastball again missing downstairs.
- 7:24Ball two, two balls and no strikes to count on the Royals third baseman. Kansas City losing two out of three to the Oakland Athletics.
- 7:32And then just a brief three-game series here and then they go home. Actually don't go home, they go to the Midwest.
- 7:38The 2-0 pitch on the way and there is the strike call by Rich Garcia, the home plate umpire.
- 7:43Kansas City is on a four-city tour after Seattle, they go to Chicago and then down to Texas, their longest road trip of the year.
- 7:51The 2-1 pitch on the way to the right-handed batting Siteser and the breaking ballless slider is a strike call.
- 7:57Two balls and two strikes. Ken Griffey straight away in left, Junior straight away in center and Jay Buhner is in right.
- 8:04R.J., ready to come back in and the 6-10 softball's next pitch way inside and that time Siteser has to jump rope and get out of the way.
- 8:13Ken Griffey says, call me Ken Griffey, don't call me senior, call Junior, Junior. I'm Ken Griffey. So that's the way we'll go with it.
- 8:21Ken Griffey and now Junior in center field and we hope that that tandem plays a lot before this year is out. It should be exciting.
- 8:29Three into the count. Here comes the wind and the 3-2 pitch on the way to Siteser now and the slider is flung on and Paul Fowl on the third base line.
- 8:36Adrian Garrett, the man coaching at third base for Kansas City and Bob Schaefer is over at first.
- 8:42The umpires of Rich Garcia, Steve Palermo at first base, Dale Scott at second and Rocky Rowe is around at third.
- 8:49Randy Johnson back with the payoff pitch to Siteser now and the slider is swinging a foul at the plate.
- 8:55The Royals treating the Mariners rather rudely last weekend in the heat and the humidity of Kansas City and it was broiling in Kansas City.
- 9:03All four games when we began Sunday it was 95 degrees with about 80 percent humidity and Kansas City beating the Mariners three out of four.
- 9:13The M's are four and six against the Royals this year. Full count on Kevin Siteser and Randy again with the 3-2 pitch and a fastball again fouled away.
- 9:23And this off to our right behind home plate into the 200 level. Still three and two.
- 9:28Brian McCray, the rookie switch hitting center fielder will be next. Of course the son of Hal McCray and Danny Tartabold the designated hitter batting third here in the first.
- 9:41Randy Johnson having a tough time getting rid of Kevin Siteser the leadoff man and again the 3-2 pitch and a slider swung on popped up.
- 9:49Foul territory coming down Pete O'Brien right in the first base. Coach's box makes the catch for out number one.
- 9:57So with one down Brian McCray, a young 22 year old actually he was 23 on Monday.
- 10:0523 year old son of Hal McCray the hitting coach of the Montreal Expos a lot of father son connotations in this ballgame and you wonder what is going through Ken Griffey's mind out there in left field and certainly juniors.
- 10:21McCray in wheeling that bat around at a home run against the Mariners his only major league home run on Sunday that pitch the fastball strike down the middle on one to count.
- 10:33And that was off the left handed slants of Keith Comstock. Good looking youngster Brian McCray just happy to be here as he said in a pregame interview the 0-1 pitch and he shows the front takes the fastball inside and it got even at one ball and one strike.
- 10:50Kansas City despite losing two of three to the A's have won seven of their last ten games and now at five hundred at sixty five and sixty five the M's have slipped to five under.
- 11:01The 1-1 pitch to Brian and it's swung on and pulled foul on the carpet down the left field line to count a ball and two strikes.
- 11:09Nice crowd on ends I would imagine anywhere from 23 to 25,000 with the extra added attraction of the historical aspect of this ballgame and indeed it is the Hall of Fame has already called for some artifacts from this game.
- 11:24Here comes the left handers one to pitch on the way McCray a foul at the plate on the fastball and it stays a ball and two strikes. Looking forward to tomorrow when we will come your way a half an hour earlier at 636 Billy Swift will face Jim Campbell the young left hander who picked up his first major league victory against the M's last weekend in Kansas City.
- 11:45Randy Johnson deals one two now to McCray and the fastball hit to the first baseman right there Peter O'Brien with the tailgate down as the ball runs to the bag and plenty of time.
- 11:55So two away and here's Danny Tautable.
- 11:58George is the best question for the batting title put on the whole floor a couple of days. He was involved in a collision at the Coliseum with Oakland pitcher Scott Sanderson at first base and he had to leave I believe that was in the fifth inning on Wednesday and his back kind of stiffened up and George is not in the lineup.
- 12:18Hopefully he'll be back in the lineup tomorrow night.
- 12:21Here's the bowl hitting 262 the ex-mariner right handed batter the pitch by Randy Johnson this slider by down the middle on one the count.
- 12:30Danny Tautable has homered in three consecutive games and he has hit in five of his last six and Johnson's one strike delivery now slider pull foul again down the left field line over toward the Mariner dugout.
- 12:46Oh and to lovely day and the Northwest today cool temperatures in the low 70s the range of left for a while.
- 12:56Tautable waving it back and forth back and forth and Randy Johnson ready to come back with the two strike pitch and the big guy delivers oh two now the fastball.
- 13:19So we've got history staring your right in the eye because in the bottom half of the first half of the leadoff man Reynolds and Griffey and then Ken Griffey Jr.
- 13:27Good to have you with us and after a happy ending Kansas City nothing the Mariners coming up.

- 15:0328 year old right hander Storm Davis still seeking his 100th career victory. He is making his 20th start of the year tonight. He was a loser to the Mariners.
- 15:17Last start on the 25th of August. Six days ago. 63 the Mariners won that ball game. The only game of the four game series they won in Kansas City. So here is Harold Reynolds hitting at 244 with a couple of home runs and 40 RBIs.
- 15:36However hitting down there 400 against Storm Davis in his career. 9 for 23 hitting 391. Here is Davis's wind. The pitch to Reynolds swung on and strokes into left center field and Brian McCrae moves over to make the easy catch.
- 15:49So one pitch and one down as Reynolds flies out to left center. And here he comes and lifts it to the ovation. The Seattle welcome Ken Griffith.
- 16:09Tremendous round of applause and a lot of people standing for the 40 year old veteran Ken Griffith. Here comes the wind. The pitch on the way to Griffith now and the breaking ball a little bit high.
- 16:20Ball one. One ball and no strikes. Born in Denora, Pennsylvania. The birthplace of Stan Musial. That familiar number 30 on his back in Storm Davis's next pitch. A fastball line drive base hit center field. Almost short ahead of Storm Davis. Welcome to Seattle. Ken Griffith out full. Right back up the middle. Would you believe it.
- 16:41Oh my. Oh my. What a shot. So Ken Griffith Jr. on the second pitch delivers to him. Hits a BB right back up the middle and receives a standing ovation here at the kingdom.
- 16:56He's not going to waste any time getting his first. He said in a Seattle Maranies uniform. Base hit number 2091 in a 17 year. And the major league. Ken Griffith on his first base. Well here is Jr. now. Again. After the kingdom.
- 17:13Jr. is at the plate with dad at first. The pitch on the way the fastball. Right on the inside corner. Oh and one. Jr. of course with a hundred and fifty four hits. Second in the American League in the number of hits. The pitch on the way to Griffith.
- 17:29Right field. That's the second base here. Round there and hold. And the Griffiths are on board. Would you believe it. A shot up the middle by Ken Griffith Jr. up full. Right field. I guess in the most perfect of worlds the only thing you could ask for more than that would be back to back home runs.
- 17:49But that will have to wait. This will do for a while. You couldn't write a better script right at the outset of the ballgame. They have taken the baseball out of the game. That is either a great souvenir for the Griffiths or on its way to the Hall of Fame. But the Griffiths with back to back singles.
- 18:04And the first game ever that a father and son of play together in the big leagues want to start for the Griffiths. Unbelievable. You might recall last year. Jr. in his major league debut double off the left center field wall at the Oakland Coliseum is first at that. Here is Alvin Davis that fits to Alvin low inside ball one one ball and no strikes. Oh my that is really something.
- 18:28The Griffiths single back to back. Nothing cheap about them. Here is the right hander stretch the pitch on the way to Alvin Steve. Right down the middle of all and a strike to count on the Mariners designated hitter.
- 18:43Rippey and second base. Rippey and first base. Junior at first. One out two on. We're in the first and no score. Storm Davis is set for the one one pitch. Alvin taking the curve low inside and a field made down to the third base umpire rocky road.
- 18:59Doesn't move a muscle.
- 19:04I wonder what's going through 30s mind. Ken's wife in juniors mom here tonight the stretch the 2 1 pitch on the way and I've been taking a high ball three three balls in a strike.
- 19:20Bill Plummer a teammate of the man standing at second base in the mid 70s with the Cincinnati Reds coaching over third base for the Mariners a pregame guest here comes a stretch the 3 1 pitch to Alvin line drive base hit right center field.
- 19:36Here comes Ken Rippey. He's going to score. Junior to third base. He will hold there.
- 19:45Alvin Davis a bullet in the right center field. Picking up his 50th RBI of the year. And these people are going bongo in the first inning at the kingdom.
- 20:02Ken Rippey scores from second base junior doors from first to third base.
- 20:08Here is Peter O'Brien.
- 20:15Getting to 18 on the year.
- 20:19Junior is at third base Alvin is over at first.
- 20:22Jay Buehner is on deck.
- 20:25Here comes the storm Davis stretch in the pitch on the way to Pete O'Brien fastball strike inside and go one the count rich Darcy at home plate umpire.
- 20:39Now the right hander ready the old one pitch on the way to O'Brien swung on popped up right side of the infield coming down Frank White Bill Picotta the first baseman right there and it's going to be Piccola right in front of the bag to make the catch.
- 20:52So two outs and Jay Buehner just beginning to get the feel of his long lost stroke.
- 21:00After two injuries.
- 21:02As a five game hitting straight.
- 21:05And that five games hitting three and 33.
- 21:09Junior is at third base Alvin Davis is over at first.
- 21:22The under bent the knees the stretch now by storm Davis and the pitch on the way swung on foul away down the right field line way back in the play.
- 21:32On one the count.
- 21:34Really a kind of a eerie night here when you sit in on something like this that is so historical.
- 21:43Now the right hander set in the old one pitch on the way to Buehner fastball.
- 21:48A little bit this time one ball and one strike.
- 21:52It's hard to describe in a way the feeling that you get something that has never happened.
- 22:00All the thousands of games have been played in this tremendous sport at the Major League Levels two and one as the fastball misses high to Jay Buehner.
- 22:09But goose pimples as big as cantaloupes when the Griffey's single sharply back to back here in the first and Ken has scored the two one pitch check swing foul.
- 22:21On the right field line back about four or five rows new supply of baseballs run out the home plate umpire Rich Garcia.
- 22:31The outfield the Bo Jackson and left Brian McCray and center Jim Eisen right in right.
- 22:37Two balls two strikes on Buehner in the stretch the two two pitch to Jay Buehner bounces up to the plate fastball gets all the way back here comes the kid.
- 22:44The kid will score. So dad scores and his son scores in the first to make it two to nothing.
- 22:52Griffey Jr. scores on a wild pitch by Storm Davis. So junior comes all the way in from third the ball bounced about 45 feet in front of home plate.
- 23:03It was way out almost on the carpet. So junior scores Alvin Davis goes to second base on the wild pitch.
- 23:11So father and son single in the first father and son score in the first.
- 23:17The only thing missing from this game is it should be June. It should be Father's Day.
- 23:21Well look at both of them down on the bench down there. The pitch to Buehner outside ball for.
- 23:30I mean it is airing.
- 23:32Here is Edgar Martinez. They're making it happen with the base hits the excitement I'm sure the adrenaline is blowing all the media before the ball game and now they can concentrate on playing baseball.
- 23:43What a great start for Ken Griffey and for Ken Griffey Jr.
- 23:48So here is Edgar Martinez digging himself a toe hole only for the second time this year is he under 300.
- 23:56Back on the 16th of July he was hitting 299 here on the final day in August 299 the pitch strike outside corner on one.
- 24:05There is two runs three hits here in the first two of them by the Griffey tandem.
- 24:14Now the right hander is set the pitch on the way to Edgar fastball low in the dirt that kept in front by Mike McFarlane.
- 24:22The catcher Storm Davis would be interesting to know if senior face Storm Davis in the one year partial year he was with the San Diego Padres one would guess that he probably has.
- 24:38Now the stretch the one one pitch on the way down low again in the dirt and boy he is really working over Mike McFarlane as Storm Davis.
- 24:47Two balls and a strike.
- 24:52Storm Davis visited at the mound now by Mike McFarlane.
- 25:07Of course while Storm Davis was with Baltimore Griffey was with New York and he's probably faced him on several occasions.
- 25:19Edgar Martinez the count two and one on it.
- 25:25Alvin at second.
- 25:28You know over at first and the two one pitch swung on ground ball hit back up the middle under a diving Steve Joe.
- 25:37Mariner's lead at three to nothing.
- 25:48Mariner's going more runs here on the bottom of the first than they did all last night.
- 26:02Well here comes Scott Bradley who has had his success against Storm Davis.
- 26:09All the while let's not forget that Storm Davis has beaten the Mariners 12 times while losing only five.
- 26:18Left side of the infield.
- 26:20The shortstop is calling he's under it and he makes the catch and an end to a very exciting and historic ending here at the Kingdome.
- 26:29As both father and son single father and son score the Mariners pick up three three run four hits no error.
- 26:40The Mariners lead to and junior walking over to dad as they go out to left field side by side saying something as they go out on defense here to start any number two.
- 26:54So at the end of one it's already fun that the Mariners three the Royals number.
- 27:02This next minute is just one of the 10,000 and 80 minutes that make up this week.
- 27:07If you're applying for a home loan you'll probably notice the passing of each and every one of them.
- 27:13That's because time never moves so slowly as when you're waiting for a bank to approve the biggest most important purchase of your life.
- 27:21It does drag on doesn't it but there is one bank that can make the time pass more quickly.
- 27:27We're called Pacific First Bank and home loans are where we do most of our lending so we've streamlined the process.
- 27:33That means faster answers and no committees to get past.
- 27:36And if you need help you can actually reach your loan officer any minute of any day.
- 27:40All 10,000 and 80 minutes of the week.
- 27:43So ask about a home loan from Pacific First today to apply anywhere else would just be a waste of your time.
- 27:50Pacific First Bank an equal opportunity lender.
- 27:53Pacific First Bank is a federal savings bank.

- 27:59Now there's a magical reading course on cassettes called Hooked on Phonics which makes learning to read simple.
- 28:06Simple because Hooked on Phonics is set to music.

- 28:26That's 1-800-ABCDEFG.
- 28:33Moving to the second response for station identification this is the Marylanders Radio Network.
- 28:37Hi I'm Ichabod Kane join me in the waking crew early mornings on the new don't leave your coffee cup there.
- 28:43I'm sorry.
- 28:44On the new KMPS Seattle.
- 28:46Let's keep it that way.
- 28:56Well here he is.
- 28:58Bo Jackson stepping in to lead it off in the second inning for Kansas City.
- 29:02The Marylanders leading it by a score of 3-0.
- 29:04Bo coming off the disabled list on Sunday afternoon against this man Randy Johnson.
- 29:10Here comes the line the pitch on the way to Bo and the slider swing and a miss.
- 29:14The first pitch Randy threw to him in the second inning.
- 29:18Bo hit it 450 feet away into the upper tier of the waterfall in dead center field.
- 29:24The second longest home run ever hit at Royal Stadium.
- 29:28The pitch on the way to Bo and the pitch is down low ball one one ball and one strike.
- 29:32The longest home run he hit was in his rookie year of 86 and that coming against Mariner Mike Moore.
- 29:38He estimated at 485 feet.
- 29:41Here comes the one one on the way to Bo Jackson swing and a miss.
- 29:44The ball and two strikes.
- 29:46Jackson put one where very few people have ever been in batting practice.
- 29:51And that was in the upper deck in straight away left field right over the entrance way where the batting cage is left out onto the black cloth out there that is covering some seats.
- 30:03They want to pitch to Bo Jackson now fastball high outside ball to two balls and two strikes.
- 30:08Bo Jackson has been back only five games and he is homered in four of those five games and he has five of his 22 home runs against the Mariners.
- 30:19The two two pitch to both swung on the line shot foul off the wall down the left field line.
- 30:26Oh it is 22 home runs 64 RBI hitting 281.
- 30:34Another see another month of baseball before it joins the Raiders.
- 30:38Here comes the wind that to pitch to Bo Jackson and a backdoor slider will not come through the back door.
- 30:44It's low and outside in the count is full three balls and two strikes.
- 30:59Now the wind and the three to pitch on the way to Bo Jackson high outside so he got ahead of ball and lost it.
- 31:06Jackson drops the first base with the first free ticket.
- 31:09That'll bring up Mike McFarlane you know there's only one thing better than a Mariner win and that's celebrating that win with an ice cold Budweiser cause nothing.
- 31:19Nothing beats a bud.
- 31:22Mike McFarlane hitting 264.
- 31:25Of course history being made here this evening in Major League Baseball and it is believed that this is only the second time in the history of professional sports.
- 31:34Here comes the stretch in the pitch to McFarlane fastball a little inside ball one one ball and no strikes.
- 31:41That a father and son have played on the same team at the same time.
- 31:45You go to the National Hockey League with Gordy Howell played with sons Marty and Mark for the Hartford Whalers for a couple of years from 77 to 79.
- 31:54The 1-0 pitch instead is a throw to first base and Bo Jackson back standing at the back.
- 32:01Last year the Griffiths became the 111 father and son combination to play in the majors but the first to play in the majors at the same time.
- 32:10The 1-0 pitch there goes Bo the pitch is a strike the throw through by Scott Bradley no way and Bo Jackson steals it easily.
- 32:17His 12th steal of the year he's caught eight times.
- 32:22And the fastball is taken right down the middle.
- 32:24So Bo Jackson at second base in scoring position with nobody out.
- 32:31On the scoreboard the Boston Red Sox win again.
- 32:35And the Boston Red Sox look like they're doggedly on their way to the Eastern Division title a six and a half game lead over the Toronto Blue Jays who are leading the fifth swing and a foul back by McFarlane.
- 32:47And a count of ball and two strikes. Blue Jays are winning in the bottom half of the eighth inning in Cleveland by a score of 11 to 8.
- 32:58Boston wins 7-3 and the Red Sox have won eight ball games in a row.
- 33:06A ball and two strikes on Mike McFarlane here with the Mariners leading it three to nothing in the second.
- 33:12The stretch in the 1-2 pitch on the way high all the way to the backstop and Bo Jackson easily trots down to third a wild pitch.
- 33:19So a walk stolen base a wild pitch and the Royals 90 feet away from his score here without having a hit.
- 33:29Two balls and two strikes. Randy Johnson has to control his emotions.
- 33:36Randy has all the talent to become a consistent 20 game winner for the next four or five years but he's got to conquer Randy Johnson.
- 33:45Here comes the southpaw stretch. The 2-2 pitch to McFarlane and a swing and a miss and a good slider down he goes.
- 33:52So the second strikeout now for Randy. One down and here comes Jimmy Eisenreich with a four game hitting streak.
- 33:59The infields still playing back they will give up the run for an out. Junior moves over into left center field.
- 34:09Grippy, Ken straight away in left. The gap is in right center field for Eisenreich and the pitcher on the way to him now and the fastball is swinging a foul straight back.
- 34:18On one to count. One thing you got to say about Randy Johnson when he gets in a jam he's about as tough as any pitcher you want out there.
- 34:25He'll come right after you and he has tremendous success in situations like this where runners are third and less than two outs.
- 34:33Pitcher on the way to Eisenreich now and the fastball. Low ball one. One ball and one strike.
- 34:44Eleven to six the Tigers leading the twins in the eighth inning at the Metrodome after taking two out of three from the Mariners here.
- 34:52The one one pitch by R&J to Eisenreich and a slider swing and a miss. One and two.
- 34:59White Sox in California the Angels have won five in a row. Scorless in the second. Oakland hosting Texas.
- 35:06The Rangers have lost three in a row and they lead Texas one nothing in the second.
- 35:10The one two pitcher on the way to Eisenreich's slider swung on fly ball. Popped up in the shallow right center field. I think it's deep enough though.
- 35:17Griffey is coming over makes the catch. Here comes ball the throw to the plate not nearly in time and way offline.
- 35:22So the sacrifice fly for Eisenreich. Eisenreich picking up his 48th RBI and it is a 3-1 ball game Mariners but with two down now and Bill Picotta the hitter.
- 35:35Number 32 Bill Picotta. Picotta hit a home run off Randy Johnson in the second inning on the first pitch.
- 35:48That was the inning that R&J gave up the two home runs a two run home run to Bowe and then the solo to Picotta.
- 35:55The pitch to Picotta slider strike outside edge at the knees 0-1. Milwaukee 4-1 over the struggling Baltimore Orioles in the eighth.
- 36:09The 0-1 pitch Picotta takes high ball one one ball and one strike. Cubs beat the Reds 4-3. Montreal snap the Dodgers winning streak at five with a 5-2 victory.
- 36:21Here comes the next delivery on the way to Picotta a little bit low. So Picotta with the count two balls and one strike on him.
- 36:35Randy Johnson holding that love right up under his nose goes to the line to the 2-1 pitch and it's low and then side ball 3-3 and one.
- 36:43Mariners three runs four hits. The Royals one run no bits. Mets win again. Boy they are tough at home they beat the Giants 4-3.
- 36:54The 3-1 pitch to Picotta swung on and felt it deep to left field and that will fly away and Bill Picotta has Randy Johnson's number.
- 37:05That was a lot longer than the ball he hit in Kansas City and all of a sudden after a three nothing lead Randy Johnson has given up two to Kansas City and the Royals jump right back in the ball game.
- 37:18It is created to Bill Picotta only his fourth home run and two of them that have come against Randy Johnson and it wasn't a cheapy way up around the aisle way and straight away left field.
- 37:29He was waiting on the 3-1 pitch he got the fastball and boom it was out of here in a hurry. Well here's Frank White the pitch to White the fastball very high.
- 37:36Ball one, one ball and no strikes. White only three hits away from 2,000 in his outstanding career.
- 37:45Randy's 1-0 pitch on the way to Frank in the slider low and inside ball two two balls and no strikes.
- 37:53Scott Bradley wants to go out and try and settle down Randy Johnson. Well it seems like when you get three runs that's the inning you've got to go slam the door.
- 38:04Show me going to be tough but the walk the stolen base the wild pitch the sacrifice fly and now Picotta goes long he goes deep very deep.
- 38:15And Kansas City back to within one the 2-0 pitch to Frank White now swinging a miss two balls and a strike.
- 38:23Phillies beat San Diego tonight 4-2 Atlanta over the Cardinals by a score of 4-1 and the Pirates leading Houston 2-0 in the bottom half of the ninth.
- 38:33At the Astrodome and you're right up to date on all the scores.
- 38:38The 2-1 pitch on the way to White now swung on and that's belted right down the left field line into the corner and that's off the glass.
- 38:45One hopper to Ken Griffey the throw to second base and holding with a long single Frank White.
- 38:52Griffey playing the ball perfectly off the glass.
- 38:56That ball up another couple of feet and we would have been tied.
- 39:00And here's the switch hitting shortstop Steve Jelts.
- 39:05The home sitting only 1-49. Friends Sunday September the 23rd the new Mariners salute kids with a special appreciation day at the Kingdome.
- 39:13Against the Chicago White Sox that will be the last home date here.
- 39:16This big day begins at noon with a baseball clinic conducted by the Mariners on the field and the youngsters who come with a group will watch on the field in a pregame parade and see the famous chicken from San Diego.
- 39:28Here's the pitch to Steve Jelts swung on. Tapper hit right to first base one hop to Pete O'Brien as it takes it to the back.
- 39:35But Kansas City comes back with a roar. They get two of the three back.
- 39:39Two runs on only two hits. No errors and one royal is left.
- 39:46As we go into the bottom half of inning number two Omar Vizcal, Harold Reynolds and then Ken Griffey.
- 39:52After an inning and a half the M's three the Royals two.
- 39:57The single most expensive ingredient in your beer isn't something you can see or taste.
- 40:02It's called excise tax and it already cost this country's beer drinkers over three billion dollars a year.
- 40:09Now they want to increase the federal excise tax on your beer raising its price again.
- 40:15You've already given enough. Now it's time to let them know it.
- 40:18Call 1-800-33-TAXES and tell them to can the beer tax.
- 40:23A message from Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, Missouri.
- 40:27I know when my car needs attention before I hear strange engine noises.
- 40:32Before red dashlights flash.
- 40:35Before I get stranded on a dark road some late night.
- 40:41To keep my car up I take it down to Chevron where they know what to change, what to check and how to be polite.
- 40:49Chevron really does care for my car.
- 40:53We're with you all the way Chevron.
- 40:57And now another visit with Lefty Bender, baseball guy.
- 41:00The way I look at it there are only two things a family can do on Monday night.
- 41:03One is to watch reruns of Newhart.
- 41:05The other is to come out to the Kingdome watch some big league baseball.
- 41:08That's because every Monday home game is family two for one night.
- 41:11What the heck you can always tape Newhart and watch him on Tuesday morning.
- 41:14Mondays are family nights at the Kingdome this year.
- 41:17Compliments of Safeway, the Seattle P.I. and the new Seattle Mariners.
- 41:21Call Ticketmaster at 628-0888 and get two reserved tickets for the price of one.
- 41:30Shortstop Omar Vizcal starts it off for the M's here in the bottom half of the second.
- 41:34And Storm Davis his first pitch is gunning down the third base line.
- 41:37Fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair on the line.
- 41:39Fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, fair, wow.
- 41:43Wow.
- 41:44It was right on the paint and the third baseman Siteser just following it down the third base line.
- 41:50As was home plate umpire Richie Garcia.
- 41:53I thought it was going to stay fair. Have another look at it.
- 41:56It's fair, right on the line and kicks off fair and then at the last moment foul.
- 42:03I'm surprised Siteser didn't get down on his hands and knees and try to blow it foul.
- 42:06If the ball stayed fair Omar Vizcal would have had a fun double because he was out at second base.
- 42:11He stopped halfway between first and second. He saw that Siteser was going to continue to watch it roll down the line and then he broke for second base.
- 42:18He made it easily but the ball just trickled over into foul territory.
- 42:22Speaking of that blowing it foul the fans here well know that that's illegal.
- 42:26Ronnie Randall did it once and it would not have been allowed.
- 42:29Here comes the wind and the pitch on the way to Vizcal.
- 42:31The fastball strike across the letters and he's quickly in the hole.
- 42:35No balls and two strikes but I'll never forget that as long as I live.
- 42:38One of the great moments in Mariner history with Ronnie Randall blowing the ball foul and of course the umpire just allowing it.
- 42:44The 0-2 pitch on the way now and the fastball high.
- 42:47Ball one, one ball and two strikes.
- 42:51Amos Otis, Kansas City was here I believe it was Amos Otis who hit that ball.
- 42:56Playing with Kansas City at the time the 1-2 delivering on the way now and it's high inside.
- 43:02Ball two, two balls and two strikes.
- 43:08Ken Griffey on deck.
- 43:14Now the right hander's sad and the 0-2 pitch on the way to Griffey.
- 43:17Fastball Steve right three call right across the inside corner.
- 43:22One down and here comes Griffey.
- 43:28A 40-year-old veteran on the second fifth storm to him hit a bullet that almost tore the head of Storm Davis off right back up the middle.
- 43:37Griffey now two fouls and one hit in his career.
- 43:43148 home runs.
- 43:46We're hitting 2-0-6 with Cincinnati this year in a part-time role.
- 43:49Here comes the Storm Davis stretch.
- 43:51The pitch on the way to Griffey and the breaking ball low inside.
- 43:54Ball one, one ball and no strikes.
- 43:57Griffey's best home run game.
- 43:59He had three home runs in a game while playing with the Atlanta Braves against the Phillies in July of 86.
- 44:06The 1-0 pitch on the way to Griffey, swing and a miss this time and a count of ball and a strike.
- 44:13It's done. Junior is on deck.
- 44:15Griffey walking to the right of that left-handed batter's box.
- 44:21That's that plate once.
- 44:24The skill over first to stretch, the pitch to Griffey, the breaking ball low inside.
- 44:29Ball two, two balls and a strike.
- 44:38Griffey right down to the knob at the bat.
- 44:41The stretch, the 2-1 pitch to Griffey now way inside.
- 44:45Fins out of the way, ball three, three balls and one strike.
- 44:58Storm Davis, 28 years of age.
- 45:02Here comes the stretch and the 3-1 pitch to Griffey now on the fastball, low inside, ball forward.
- 45:07Here comes the kick.
- 45:14Junior, the fake hit in the right field after Griffey single left the middle is bad.
- 45:20In the first and a both came around the score.
- 45:23Griffey, Griffey on the fake hit by Alvin Davis and Junior on the wild hit by Storm Davis.
- 45:34Junior with 155 hits now.
- 45:37That's one behind Wade Boggs going into today's game.
- 45:41That's one, seven, three and we haven't seen what Boggs did.
- 45:44The pitch, going on and up down the first baseline.
- 45:46Quickly Storm Davis on it.
- 45:47He'll throw the first in time and everybody moves up 90 feet.
- 45:51Junior is out one, three.
- 45:53Omar ends up at third and Griffey at second.
- 46:04Here's Alvin Davis.
- 46:05Alvin, the fake hit to Griffey.
- 46:08That's one, Griffey in the first inning.
- 46:14Wade Boggs went one to five for the Boston Red Sox today.
- 46:18They'll take the bat away from Alvin Davis and take their chances on Vito Vine, an intentional base on balls.
- 46:25That means that four walks will have been issued by Storm Davis.
- 46:29They will set up and out at every base.
- 46:32And Vito Vine of course has been struggling.
- 46:36Three outside and now ball four.
- 46:38O'Brien pops up to first in the first inning.
- 46:51O'Brien, you know what's deep in his heart, man.
- 46:54He's having trouble this year, having the worst year of his career.
- 46:58He's injured a couple of times and on the disabled list, and he's never been on the disabled list in his professional career.
- 47:06And the fans on him a little bit, as you can hear, and he's got that great desire to pop one out of here.
- 47:14The bases are loaded with two outs with this young Ken Griffey at second base.
- 47:19Alvin Davis over first to line the pitcher on the way to O'Brien and it's flung on and wow, straight back over the screen.
- 47:26And it'll run to the level right below us.
- 47:29One strike on Vito O'Brien.
- 47:32He's dropped a couple of bases loaded in his career.
- 47:35Two grand strom home runs, his last one, the front of the eighth game from 1988.
- 47:39And the O'One pitch on the way to him now.
- 47:41Pop ball flung on, ground ball hits the first.
- 47:43Right to Dakota behind the bag, you'll carry it to the sack and that will be that.
- 47:46So the Mariners are denied here in the second.
- 47:50No run, no hit, no errors.
- 47:52Then the M's lead three and at the end of two at the goal tonight, the Mariners three, ends the city two.

- 49:32This is Dave Nehous along with Rick Riz, Kevin Kremen, our producer engineer from the Kingdom
- 49:36where the man has played the Kansas City Royals by a score of 3-2.
- 49:40Moving into the third inning of play.
- 49:42Tomorrow, half an hour earlier, 6.36, our broadcast time is Billy Swift and Kim Campbell hookup.
- 49:48And then Sunday, 1.06, Brian Holman and flight court.
- 49:52Already a very exciting ball game because the two griffys single shot play and they both scored in the first inning.
- 49:59So we move to the third and put a play. Here's Rick.
- 50:01Thank you Dave and Kevin Sightster, Brian McRae, Danny Tynable will hit for Kansas City.
- 50:05Here on the top of inning number three, Randy Johnson took care of each of those three in the first inning.
- 50:11Then ran into some trouble in the top of the second when Bo Jackson walked, later scored on a sacrifice fly by Jim Eisenweig.
- 50:17And then Bill Prokota hit a home run way out the left field.
- 50:21So Kevin Sightster right handed hitter is 0-1 tonight. He's popped up to beat O'Brien at first base.
- 50:25Here's the pitch. Swing and a foul ball out of play in the first base side and it's 2-1 on Sightster.
- 50:31Indeed an exciting evening here in the Kingdome.
- 50:35See the griffys, both of them in the outfield. Ken Griffey on the left, junior and center.
- 50:41History making night. Here's the 0-1 pitch. Fast ball and it's just inside on Sightster.
- 50:46Ball one, one ball and one strike.
- 50:49From Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, we'll come away with a few mementos from this ball game.
- 50:53The line up card, pictures of the two together.
- 50:57Randy Reddy and here's the 1-1 on the way to Sightster. Swing and a fly ball into shallow center field.
- 51:02Going out, Vesquell and Reynolds. It'll be a short stop.
- 51:05Omar Vesquell who puts it away. One down. Brings up center fielder Brian McRae.
- 51:11He's a classy young gentleman. He was signed by the Royals back in 1985.
- 51:17Brian and his dad Hal went to spring training together in 86 with Kansas City.
- 51:23And the story back then was maybe it would be the McRae's who would make it to the major leagues at the same time as their father and son combo.
- 51:30Hal McRae and Brian McRae. Here's the line in the pitch on the way to Brian. Swing and a foul ball on the third base side.
- 51:36And the count is on one. McRae, just 23 years of age, classy kid.
- 51:41Doing a good job. He's coming up from Double A Memphis on August the 7th.
- 51:46Another chance to visit with Brian on a pregame show a few days ago in Kansas City.
- 51:51Switch hitter back from the right side. The O-1 pitch. Fastball swing and a pop up outside of first.
- 51:55So Brian will have a play. Pete gets over in front of the feet. Makes the catch. Two down.
- 52:00So quickly two outs for Kansas City here with a third. That'll bring up designated hitter Danny Tynable.
- 52:05But to finish the thought, Brian said, I knew I was going to get called up.
- 52:09I thought I was on my way to Omaha, but on August the 7th, he found out he was heading to the major leagues for the first time.
- 52:18Danny Tynable, 0 for 1. Struck out on an 0-2 fastball. In the first inning, the pitch.
- 52:24Low and inside and off the glove of the catcher, Scott Bradley gets behind him for ball one.
- 52:291-0 Randy Johnson looking for his first career win against Kansas City.
- 52:340-1 against the Royals last year. 0-1 against Kansas City this year.
- 52:39Down the 1-0 pitch. Slider swing and a fly ball into shallow straightaway center field.
- 52:44Again, Griffey Jr. races in, slides and he traps the ball on a hop. It's a very good for Danny Tynable.
- 52:51Jr. came racing in. He was pulled just a little bit on the swing and got a little bit of a late break on the ball.
- 52:58Because of the big swing by Danny Tynable, but the ball wasn't going anywhere.
- 53:01He tried to make the adjustment, came in quickly and sliding on one leg.
- 53:06He was able to reach it but on a hop. And Danny Tynable is safe at first base with a 2-out single in the center.
- 53:14A lot of times an outfielder can get easily fooled on the swing when the hitter takes a big cut, but the ball just doesn't go anywhere.
- 53:21As the hitter gets it off the handle or off the end of the bat.
- 53:25Here's Bowe. Left fielder Bowe Jackson who walks to second with the third on the wild pitch and scored on Eisenreich's sacrifice fly.
- 53:31The pitch in the way, swing and a foul ball out of play on the first base side and it's 0-1 on Bowe Jackson.
- 53:38You talk about strong.
- 53:42Bowe Jackson is just poured into the powder blue road uniform of the Kansas City Royals.
- 53:49Jackson batting 281. He is eighth in the league with 22 home runs.
- 53:54He's been a month on the DL. Here's the 0-1 pitch. Fastball misses high. Ball one. One ball and one strike and he has 64 runs banded in.
- 54:04He has put up some big numbers since getting to the major leagues in 1986.
- 54:12Here's the stretch and the 1-1 pitch on the way and it's just outside ball two.
- 54:18Two balls and a strike on Bowe Jackson.
- 54:26Center fielder Ken Griffey Jr. shaded in the left center field. Ken Griffey is straight away in deep and left.
- 54:32Johnson ready and the 2-1 pitch. The ball swing and a ground ball left of the Scalise over gloves it underhands the Reynolds at second base.
- 54:39Full of force there on Danny Pannable to retire the side.
- 54:43In the top of the third for the Royals. No runs, no hits, no errors and a man left on.
- 54:48And after two and a half innings of play here in the kingdom, it's the Mariners three Kansas City two.
- 54:54When I was growing up, I can remember Mr. Walker, the agent from the founder's insurance group of companies coming by.
- 55:00Are you here to see my new baby sister Mr. Walker?
- 55:03That's right Timmy, but first let's get a look at you. Ah, I thought you was a big fella.
- 55:08Yeah, I'm five years old now.
- 55:10He was always friendly, but through the years he stopped by to see if there were any changes in the family's insurance needs.
- 55:16Got a new car, huh Tim?
- 55:18Yeah, what do you think of it Mr. Walker?
- 55:20Beautiful, it's beautiful.
- 55:22Well, now that I'm grown, Mr. Walker is just as friendly as ever and he's still reviewing the family's insurance needs just like always.
- 55:29Alright Tim.
- 55:30How are you Jack?
- 55:31So, this is Timothy Jr.
- 55:33I guess that's why they call it the farmer's friendly review, that's exactly what it is.
- 55:44For all of your farmer's insurance needs, see Patrick McMullen, Jim O'met, or Carolyn Pacheco in their offices at 7808 Pacific Avenue in Tacoma.

- 56:27Mariner's League Kansas City, 3-2 as we go to the bottom half of inning number 3.
- 56:32Right fielder Jay Buhner will lead it off for the Mariner's followed by third baseman Edgar Martinez and then catcher Scott Bradley.
- 56:38Patience along the line, we're going to pause for an ID right after we take a look at Jay Buhner who walked in the first inning.
- 56:46Storm Davis' first pitch of fastball is fouled away into the upper deck.
- 56:49Off the right end it's on one to Cannon Jay.
- 56:52Hitting 247 he has five home runs and 20 runs batted in.
- 56:57Working on a five game hitting streak, six hits in his last 18 at bats. Davis delivers.
- 57:03Fastball lowed outside, ball one, one ball and one strike.
- 57:07I want to thank Bob Spaniker for a tremendous painting of Dave and myself.
- 57:14Bob works it bowling, here's the pitch on the way swinging a ground ball up the middle.
- 57:18Jelts guy can't get there, it's a base hitter to center field for Jay Buhner leading off a third.
- 57:23And with that let's pause for station identification. This is the Seattle Mariner's Radio Network.
- 57:29The new KMPS Seattle, famous for a better mix of country favorites, played 12 in a row. And Ichabod Kane and the Waking Crew, continuous country KMPS.
- 57:47Jay Buhner on his first base, nobody out and here's third baseman Edgar Martinez.
- 57:52Bob Spaniker, very talented artist Dave, he's the best man, beautiful pictures, one of the nicest things I've ever received Bob, thank you so much.
- 58:00Low picked up right away by the catcher Mike McFarland but holding a first base Jay Buhner.
- 58:06You want to know the kind of Martinez, but he painted a picture of yourself, here's Julian, did a great job right out of the media guy.
- 58:13Bob, Bob that's going up in my den. Bob Spaniker right now listening to the broadcast somewhere out there in left field. Thank you Bob.
- 58:30Here's the stretch on the pitch and away the runner goes, swinging a one hopper right back to Davis, has time to go back to second for one.
- 58:35The relay to first base is in time for the double play. Well they hit the run but Edgar Martinez got it right back and a hopper to pitch to Storm Davis.
- 58:45He had plenty of time to wheel around and go back to second for the four-side dealer to throw back to first base for a double play.
- 58:52And there are two outs, brings up catcher Scott Bradley.
- 59:00Bob if you get a chance and you're listening out in left field, come on up there anytime this evening. We'd like to thank you in person.
- 59:07Scott Bradley takes high and inside for ball one. Two outs, nobody on bottom of the third. Mariners lead the Royals 3-2.
- 59:14Yes indeed Bob if you get a chance, come on by the booth.
- 59:19Here's the one-o-fence, Shannetts who will go on outside ball two. Two balls and no strikes.
- 59:24Bradley Operwani popped up to shortstop Steve Jeltz for the final out in the first. Scott hitting 232 with a home run and 27 RBIs.
- 59:33Davis the line, Davis the pitch. High and outside, ball three. Three balls and no strikes to Scott Bradley on deck shortstop Omar Vizcal.
- 59:44Play off the line at third base as Kevin Sites or the outfield is straight away.
- 59:49Here's the three-nothing pitch on the way and it's a fastball for a strike. Three and one.
- 59:58Nice crowd tonight here on the Kingdome to see the Griffys and the Mariners take on Kansas City.
- 1:00:05Here's the three-one pitch. Swing and a line drive left field coming in quickly as Jackson and he can't handle it. He gets behind him.
- 1:00:12Bradley hitting for second. Balls throw to second base out in time and Scott Bradley winds up on his second base.
- 1:00:23I'm sure that'll be one and one.
- 1:00:26They hit it in an air on Jackson.
- 1:00:28Yeah.
- 1:00:29Bo Jackson came in quickly to try to get in on the short hop but it bounced away and he is charged with an air.
- 1:00:35But gives Scott Bradley a base and a single and an air on Bo Jackson that allows Bradley to go from first to second.
- 1:00:40Here's shortstop Omar Vizcal. Well friends, Saturday, September the 1st is going to be a special night here in the Kingdome as the M's host these Kansas City Royals.
- 1:00:48Here's the pitch on the way to Omar inside.
- 1:00:51Ball one in addition to it already being Washington natural gas-fitted scarf night, there's a spectacular Labor Day fireworks show following the ball game.
- 1:00:58This fireworks is to have a Ganses compliments of Coca-Cola and promises to be the biggest indoor fireworks show ever in Seattle.
- 1:01:05Swing and a fly ball left center field on the run. Ball and Jackson makes the catch for out number three.
- 1:01:11Omar Vizcal flies out and that's it for the M's in the bottom of the third.
- 1:01:15No runs, two hits, one air and a man left on and after three names to play the Mariners have stranded sixth.
- 1:01:22We go to the fourth-hour score the Mariners three Kansas City two.
- 1:01:52What do you say? Nothing beats a bird.
- 1:02:02Cool down the fire. Way down here on the fire.

- 1:03:01Well the Mariners lead Kansas City by one, three to two. We go to the top of the fourth inning, Mike McFarlane, Jim Eisenreich and Bill Picotta will come to the plate for the Royals.
- 1:03:09Left-hander Randy Johnson making his 27th start of the season a record of a solid eight and his second start of the year against Kansas City. Three-two Mariners lead and for the play-by-play. Here's Dave.
- 1:03:20And a reminder that this season every Sunday game is a two-for-one seniors day. You fans aged 60 and older can purchase half-price tickets in the Vospa Club and a few level seating areas. The next senior day, of course, is right around the corner. This Sunday, September the 2nd, Kansas City will be here at 1.35.
- 1:03:36You get to see Brian Holman duel Tom Flash Gorton. Well here's Mike McFarlane, the strikeout victim in the second inning. To face Randy Johnson in the fourth of three, two Mariners lead. The line by the big unit and his first pitch down low and inside the breaking ball.
- 1:03:51One ball and no strikes. The Mariners three in the first. Kansas City answered with two in the second. And here we are in the fourth. Randy Johnson has thrown 54 pitches in the game. And Randy back with the 1-0 pitch now. That's going on and the ground ball hit right to Vizcela.
- 1:04:07A short stop has it and throws across the little looping sinker. Went on the money and plenty of time to get to feed O'Brien before Mike McFarlane reaches the bag. So McFarlane has done six three. And Jimmy Eisenreich will be the hitter. Eisenreich the sacrifice fly in the right center field.
- 1:04:25To pick up Bo Jackson from third base, Jackson walks to second with wild pitch to third. And then Dakota followed with a long ball. The pitch to Eisenreich and a swing and a miss out in front of a breaking ball. 0-1, three runs, six hits for the ends. Two runs, three hits and one error for Kansas City.
- 1:04:43Randy Johnson back with the one strike pitch now. The fastball notion and he held up apparently. No appeal made down to Rock. Rocky Roll outside 1-1.
- 1:04:57Now the big guy back with the 1-1 pitch and the breaking ball outside ball two. Two balls and one strike. An exciting evening of history here at the Dome tonight before a nice crowd of right around 25-26,000. The 2-1 pitch to Eisenreich and a slider swing and a miss.
- 1:05:17Two balls and two strikes. Eisenreich to be followed by Picota. Second stop for Kansas City before City Tour. The 2-2 pitch by the big guy. Fastball swung on, ground ball hit to Reynolds charging to his right across his body throws. Eisenreich is out by a step.
- 1:05:38So two down and Kansas City's fourth and Bill Picota who took a 3-1 fastball way out of here. Way back into the bleachers and left field. In the second inning the hitter now.
- 1:05:50On the scoreboard games underway. Chicago with California. The Angels have won five in a row. There is no score in the fourth.
- 1:05:58That ball game. Hibbard against Langston. The pitch. Fastball high inside to Picota. Ball one. One ball and no strikes. Open with a 3-1 lead over Texas in the fourth.
- 1:06:14Here comes a line to no one-oh pitch on the way now to Picota. Slider strike at the knees this time and it counts one ball and one strike.
- 1:06:28Well-scoring for his 22nd victory in that ball game. Swung on, fly ball hit into deep left center field. The kid is back there though and junior makes the catch to retire the tie. In the fourth. No runs. No hits. No errors and nobody left.
- 1:06:44And as we go to the bottom of the fourth it will be more excitement time because it's time for Reynolds and the Griffys. After three and a half. And there's three. Royals two.

- 1:08:41And this is our Denny Cairo home run inning. The pitcher on the way and the fastball taken high by Harold ball one. One ball and no strikes. Joseph Northlanks. M-O-R-T-H-L-A-N-X from Kent is our contestant here in the fourth and the pitcher on the way to Harold now.
- 1:08:56Fastball taken upstairs. Two two balls and no strikes. Joe predicts that a Mariner will hit a home run here in the fourth. Joseph if you're right you'll win our Yatsana prize money of $275 as we start all over again.
- 1:09:11The winner just recently. Marked a $200 gift certificate from Denny's restaurants. But Joseph Northlanks and Kent. The pitch to Reynolds. Swung on ground ball hit right to Frank White at second base.
- 1:09:26The veteran throws him out. So Reynolds is gone for three and here comes Ken Guppy. Guppy in his debut in his first game in a Mariner uniform. A single and scored and he is lost.
- 1:09:48And the fans love him already. And then aboard both times. Storm Davis into his wind the pitcher on the way and Davis gets a spike in that just as he starts into his wind up and has to step off.
- 1:10:03Here comes the pitch on the way to Guppy. High and inside the fastball ball one. One ball and no strikes.
- 1:10:10So that hit in the first his first hit is a Mariner two thousand and ninety one hits. The one old pitch on the way to Griffey now and the fastball taken for a Steve Reich outside corner one ball and one strike.
- 1:10:25And the American Leagues with the New York Yankees and the one one pitch on the way to Griffey now and the breaking ball down low and inside ball one one ball and one strike and at time little did we know how the Griffey legend would make its way into the Pacific Northwest.
- 1:10:44And the one pitch to Griffey swinging the miss this time in a count two balls and two strikes. Played with the Yankees in 1982 83 84 and part of 85 and 85 and part of 86 before being sent to Atlanta.

- 1:22:33That's right to me, but first let's get a look at you.
- 1:22:36Ah, you're sure the big fella.
- 1:22:38Yeah, I'm five years old now.
- 1:22:40He was always friendly, but through the years, he'd stop by to see if there were any changes in the family's insurance needs.
- 1:22:46Got a new car, huh, Tim?
- 1:22:48Yeah. What do you think of it, Mr. Walker?
- 1:22:50Beautiful. It's beautiful.
- 1:22:52I know that I'm grown. Mr. Walker is just as friendly as ever.
- 1:22:55And he's still reviewing the family's insurance needs, just like always.
- 1:22:59All right, Tim.
- 1:23:00How are you, Jack?
- 1:23:01So, this is Timothy Jr.
- 1:23:03I guess that's why they call it the Farmer's Friendly Review.
- 1:23:06That's exactly what it is.
- 1:23:08The Farmer's Friendly Review
- 1:23:26Alvin Davis will start it off, Alvin with the RBI single in the first inning, and he also scored.
- 1:23:31He was intentionally walked to load the bases in the second.
- 1:23:34And then Pete O'Brien hit a ground ball to the first baseman, Bill Picotta, and Storm Davis had wibbled off the hook.
- 1:23:40So, here we go into the bottom half of inning number five, and Storm Davis is delivering on the way to Alvin, the fastball across the letters for a strike call.
- 1:23:470-1.
- 1:23:50Come on out tomorrow night now, and then Sunday afternoon, the M's will be gone for a week.
- 1:23:55Here comes the 0-1 on the way to Alvin now, and it's a little bit outside in the low ball.
- 1:23:591-1, 1-1, while the M's are gone now, you might think in terms of when they return home, because it'll be your chance to look at,
- 1:24:07it's what most people think yours truly included, the best club in baseball, because the Oakland Athletics will be here when we return for three big games.
- 1:24:20Here comes the wind in the 1-1 pitch.
- 1:24:22High ball, two, two balls and one strike.
- 1:24:25The Lincoln-Saco & Company will be here on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, the 10th, the 11th, and the 12th.
- 1:24:31And that 12th is the last business person special of the year in afternoon game.
- 1:24:35The 2-1 pitch to Alvin Davis, and it's taken high ball three.
- 1:24:39Three balls and a strike to count.
- 1:24:42And then the M's will go right back on the road after that three game series, but only for four against the Angels down in Anaheim, and then the final home stand of the year.
- 1:24:50Where's the year gone?
- 1:24:51The 3-1 pitch to Alvin Davis, and it's a breaking ball low and inside, ball four.
- 1:24:56So Davis lead off face on balls here in the fifth.
- 1:25:00That is the fifth walk given up by Storm Davis, and Pete O'Brien will be the hitter.
- 1:25:05In the final home stand of the year, the Texas Rangers will be in for three, and then I think you would have to agree, the real surprise team of the year.
- 1:25:15The Chicago White Sox will close out the home stand with four.
- 1:25:19The M's end the year on the road with a couple in Detroit, three in Chicago, and three in Minnesota.
- 1:25:26Here comes Pete O'Brien, the pitch to O'Brien, low inside, ball one, one ball and no strikes.
- 1:25:30And the Mariners, of course, have, speaking of history, the final game ever played.
- 1:25:38That's Kamisky Parton.
- 1:25:40Coming up, here comes the 1-0 pitch on the way, high inside the fastball, and Storm now struggling with his control just a little bit.
- 1:25:47Ball two, two balls and no strikes.
- 1:25:49That will be something that Sunday afternoon in Chicago, it has been sold out for months.
- 1:25:57Storm are ready in the 2-0 pitch. O'Brien sends a high pop foul on the right field line that's going to make its way back into the stands.
- 1:26:03And let's pause for station identification on the Mariners radio network.
- 1:26:08Continuous country KMPS. This is Stubbs.
- 1:26:11Join me mid-days for more back-to-back country favorites played 12 in a row.
- 1:26:15On the new KMPS Seattle.
- 1:26:18The Mariners.
- 1:26:46The Mariners are tired out there on the mound.
- 1:26:49Gold chain dangling around his neck.
- 1:26:51The stretch and the 1-1 pitch on the way to Buhner.
- 1:26:54Strike two called.
- 1:26:56Out on the outside corner, that's the fastball.
- 1:26:59This time from Storm.
- 1:27:02Jeff Schaefer, who took over for Edgar Martinez, is on deck.
- 1:27:11And the pitch on the way to Buhner swung on.
- 1:27:13Fly ball into the gap in right center field.
- 1:27:15If he can get to that one, I don't believe it won't.
- 1:27:17It's off the face of the wall.
- 1:27:18Here comes Alvin.
- 1:27:19Here comes Pete O'Brien around Trev.
- 1:27:21A little hold in there on a double by Jay Buhner.
- 1:27:24And it is 1-2.
- 1:27:26Jay Buhner getting that stroke back, baby.
- 1:27:29It's the year.
- 1:27:30And he's getting back the power.
- 1:27:32So Buhner picks up his 21st RBI.
- 1:27:35The Mariners weighted by a score of 4-2.
- 1:27:37And have two more in scoring position with no money out for Jeff Schaefer.
- 1:27:42You bet. Jay Buhner is back.
- 1:27:43He was down. He went the other way.
- 1:27:45And hit it deep in the right center field off the wall.
- 1:27:47So Buhner with two hits tonight.
- 1:27:48He now has a six-game hitting streak.
- 1:27:51And eight hits in his last 20 advance for a batting average of four hundredths of Jay Buhner.
- 1:27:55Doing a great job swinging the bat over his last six games.
- 1:27:59Well, here is Jeff Schaefer hitting 200.
- 1:28:01The infield up now.
- 1:28:02The pitch swung on.
- 1:28:03Ground ball hit right down to Siteser at third base.
- 1:28:05That won't do the job.
- 1:28:06Siteser will throw out Schaefer easily.
- 1:28:08Everybody has to hold.
- 1:28:09And it will bring up Scott Bradley.
- 1:28:11Schaefer is retired.
- 1:28:14And here's Scott.
- 1:28:18The point on Edgar Martinez has nothing to do with his hamstrings.
- 1:28:22Apparently he strained or sprained a right index finger.
- 1:28:26Swinging the bat in the third inning.
- 1:28:28That would be the top hand on the bat and the top finger.
- 1:28:34Here comes Scott Bradley.
- 1:28:35The pitch to Bradley.
- 1:28:36Ground ball hit right to White at second base.
- 1:28:38And he'll throw him out.
- 1:28:41So two outs and now the infield can drop back for Omar Vizcayl.
- 1:28:46Boy, it has been tough in this situation.
- 1:28:48A run already.
- 1:28:49And two out there with the table set.
- 1:28:52He needs a fly ball to get one.
- 1:28:53A base hit to get two.
- 1:28:54But you get two neat, easy hit ground balls.
- 1:28:57One to third and one to second.
- 1:29:00Now the pressure is on Omar.
- 1:29:05Storm Davis.
- 1:29:07Works from the full wind in the pitch to Omar Vizcayl now.
- 1:29:10The fastball across the letters.
- 1:29:12Strike called on one.
- 1:29:14Mel Jr. continues to throw.
- 1:29:16Mel Stoudelmeyer.
- 1:29:18Seems to be a game of seniors and juniors, doesn't it anymore?
- 1:29:21Sure does.
- 1:29:23And the 0-1 on the way now to Omar.
- 1:29:26Hi.
- 1:29:27This time the fastball misses and they count one ball and one strike.
- 1:29:38And the Davis delivery now.
- 1:29:401-1 to Vizcayl.
- 1:29:42Outside corner strike is called by Rich Garcia.
- 1:29:481-2.
- 1:29:54Davis ready to come with the 1-2 pitch to Omar Vizcayl.
- 1:29:58Swung on, popped up on the infield in the shortstop.
- 1:30:00Jels is right there.
- 1:30:01Steve will make the catch.
- 1:30:03Boy, I'll tell you, it should have been a fairly big inning for the Mariners,
- 1:30:06but they end up getting only the one.
- 1:30:08One run on one hit.
- 1:30:10Two big ones left.
- 1:30:11At second and third they were there with nobody out and the M's can't score them.
- 1:30:15The Mariners have stranded eight in the ball game and that's the end of five.
- 1:30:20Mariners now four.
- 1:30:21Kansas City two.

- 1:31:58I wish you were here because it is quite a night.
- 1:32:00The excitement in the first inning with both father and son singling.
- 1:32:04Well again Griffey and Junior and then they both scored in the ball game.
- 1:32:08The Mariner scored three in the first and one more in the fifth.
- 1:32:11Should have had more, but that's the way it's been going lately.
- 1:32:14And I'll tell you one thing, this is a date the Mariners are glad to see come and go.
- 1:32:20Glad to see come because the Griffey's are here in tandem.
- 1:32:23Glad to see go because baby it is the last day of August.
- 1:32:27And it has been a nightmare.
- 1:32:28We start September tomorrow and hope you'll be with us in person out here at the Dome.
- 1:32:32We are through five, four 2M's.
- 1:32:34Here is Rick.
- 1:32:36Thank you Dave.
- 1:32:37Brian McRae will lead it off.
- 1:32:38You bet.
- 1:32:39The Mariners are very happy to see August go.
- 1:32:42Brian McRae is 0 for 2.
- 1:32:44He has grounded the first and also popped up to Pete O'Brien.
- 1:32:47Shows the bunt, runs up on the pitch and he takes it for a strike.
- 1:32:510-1.
- 1:32:53McRae, Tideable and Bo Jackson for the Royals here in the sixth inning.
- 1:32:57The Mariners got a run in the bottom of the fifth inning,
- 1:32:59but they had a chance to chase Storm Davis and could not deliver the knockout punch.
- 1:33:04Swing and a foul ball out of play on the right field side.
- 1:33:07Up into the crowd and it's 0-2 right away on Brian McRae.
- 1:33:11One home run.
- 1:33:13That was his first major league home run against the Mariners in Kansas City.
- 1:33:17A three-run home run and that's what put the Royals way on in front of that particular ball game.
- 1:33:22The outfield straight away.
- 1:33:24Johnson the wide and Randy's 0-2 pitch.
- 1:33:26Slider back door just misses.
- 1:33:28Ball one.
- 1:33:29One ball and two strikes.
- 1:33:34Kansas City won three out of the four games in Kansas City against the Mariners.
- 1:33:39Randy Reddy back with the 1-2.
- 1:33:41Slider swinging a hot shot backhanded by Schaeffer.
- 1:33:43Third on a hop toss across.
- 1:33:45One away.
- 1:33:46Nice play by Jeff Schaeffer.
- 1:33:48He caught the ball on the line.
- 1:33:50Third base umpire Rocky Ray Roll making the call.
- 1:33:53Schaeffer made the throw anyway.
- 1:33:56So Jeff Schaeffer making the catch on the fly.
- 1:33:59Backhand in the ball.
- 1:34:00Off his left shoe and he made the throw across the first base anyway.
- 1:34:04He wasn't taking any chances.
- 1:34:07So both ways, one away.
- 1:34:09And here's designated hitter Danny Tattable.
- 1:34:11The ball is one for two.
- 1:34:12The pitch swing and a fallback.
- 1:34:15Off the screen behind home plate.
- 1:34:17On one Danny struck out in the first and he's singled.
- 1:34:21A shallow fly ball into straight away center field in the third.
- 1:34:27Kansas City playing some good baseball right now.
- 1:34:29Winning seven of their last ten.
- 1:34:31The 0-1 pitch stays outside.
- 1:34:33Ball one.
- 1:34:34One ball and one strike.
- 1:34:35The Royals have gone 29 and 20 since the All-Star break.
- 1:34:39One of the better home records in baseball.
- 1:34:41At the Royals Stadium the Royals 40 and 29.
- 1:34:44And on the road though they are 25 and 36.
- 1:34:47Kansas City off to a slow start this year.
- 1:34:49But they have turned it on because of number five George Brett.
- 1:34:52And a host of others.
- 1:34:53Here's a slider low inside.
- 1:34:54Ball two.
- 1:34:55Two balls and a strike.
- 1:34:56George not playing tonight.
- 1:34:58With a sore back and talking with manager John Wathen.
- 1:35:02He might be in the lineup tonight for the middle game of the series.
- 1:35:04One of the great players in the game.
- 1:35:06Here's the pitch out of the way.
- 1:35:07Low and inside.
- 1:35:08Ball three.
- 1:35:09Three and one.
- 1:35:11Always a pleasure visiting with George Brett.
- 1:35:13Seventeen years in the major leagues and he has put up Hall of Fame numbers.
- 1:35:18Hitting over 390 since the All-Star break.
- 1:35:21Back in May the average was down around 200.
- 1:35:24But George not in the lineup tonight.
- 1:35:26Johnson behind in the counters.
- 1:35:28The 3-1 pitch to Tidal Bowl.
- 1:35:29Low and inside.
- 1:35:30Pops out of the glove.
- 1:35:31The catcher Scott Bradley for ball four and Tidal Bowl is on at first base.
- 1:35:35And that is the second walk given up by Randy Johnson.
- 1:35:40One on and one out and here's left fielder Bo Jackson.
- 1:35:44And he represents the time run at the plate.
- 1:35:46So you don't want to make a mistake to Bo.
- 1:35:49He'll put one into the upper deck before the ball game during batting practice.
- 1:35:54Bo walked and scored in the second.
- 1:35:57And his fielder's choice retired to side in the top of the third.
- 1:36:02There's number 16 on the back of his Royals jersey.
- 1:36:07Straight away deep and left Ken Griffey.
- 1:36:10Randy Johnson ready.
- 1:36:11Here's the pitch on the way.
- 1:36:12Swing and a hot shot.
- 1:36:13Fair ball down the left field line.
- 1:36:15In toward the corner.
- 1:36:16Bangs off the walls off to Ken Griffey.
- 1:36:18Around the third goes Tidal Bowl.
- 1:36:19Here's the throw to second base and they got a shot.
- 1:36:21Bo Jackson out at second base.
- 1:36:23Ken Griffey plays the carom quickly off the wall behind the Royals bullpen.
- 1:36:29He fires in his right to Harold Reynolds in second base.
- 1:36:32Tidal Bowl.
- 1:36:33Jackson for the second out of the inning.
- 1:36:36Ken Griffey.
- 1:36:37What a night for the senior player.
- 1:36:4017 years in the major leagues.
- 1:36:42Griffey with an outstanding throw.
- 1:36:44Tidal Bowl at second base.
- 1:36:46Jackson with a single.
- 1:36:47But he is out at second.
- 1:36:49Do away.
- 1:36:50What a play.
- 1:36:51What a throw by Ken Griffey.
- 1:36:53Look at this baby.
- 1:36:55One hopper right on the money.
- 1:36:57Bo Jackson was out by 10 feet.
- 1:36:59Harold had the throw, had the tag waiting for him.
- 1:37:03Roy what a debut for Ken Griffey.
- 1:37:05Great throw by Ken Griffey.
- 1:37:08On the left field corner.
- 1:37:09Here's Mike McFarland.
- 1:37:10The slider check.
- 1:37:11Swing.
- 1:37:12Did he go?
- 1:37:13He did not.
- 1:37:14He appealed down to the first base umpire Steve Palermo.
- 1:37:15Ball one.
- 1:37:17Jackson hit a tee shot that was just fair.
- 1:37:20Maybe right on the left field line.
- 1:37:22And the ball hit the curvature of the wall right by the Royals bullpen.
- 1:37:25It bounced quickly out to Griffey.
- 1:37:27Ken was right there on it in a hurry.
- 1:37:29And he threw a one hop strike into Harold Reynolds.
- 1:37:32To get Bo Jackson.
- 1:37:33Here's the pitch and it's outside.
- 1:37:35Ball two.
- 1:37:36Two balls and no strikes.
- 1:37:38So Danny Tidal is on the third base with two down.
- 1:37:41Big play.
- 1:37:43Because the tie and run is still at the plate.
- 1:37:46Instead of being on its second base.
- 1:37:48With only one away.
- 1:37:50And now a run around a third with two down.
- 1:37:52Johnson behind in the count.
- 1:37:54Randy Reddy and here's the two hole pitch.
- 1:37:56Slider for a strike.
- 1:37:58And the count is now two and one.
- 1:37:59And Randy is not afraid to throw that slider anytime.
- 1:38:01Especially behind in the count.
- 1:38:05He gets it in and the count is two and one.
- 1:38:07And McFarland the catcher who is 0 for 2.
- 1:38:09He has struck out and brought it out to short.
- 1:38:12What a night for the Griffey's.
- 1:38:14Offensively and now defensively as well.
- 1:38:17Johnson's two one pitch.
- 1:38:18Slider swing and a foul ball by the Mariners.
- 1:38:21Third base dugout and the count evens out to two.
- 1:38:24Kansas City winning six of the previous ten meetings against the Mariners this year.
- 1:38:30They had a lot of success against the Mariners last year.
- 1:38:32Winning nine of 13 games.
- 1:38:34Ken Griffey big smile on his face.
- 1:38:36He's talking to his son.
- 1:38:38And he has been the entire night.
- 1:38:41No two two pitch.
- 1:38:42Fastball swing and a miss like three.
- 1:38:45He places it on by Mike McFarland to retire the side.
- 1:38:50Randy Johnson with strikeout number four.
- 1:38:54That's it for Kansas City.
- 1:38:55They leave Danny Tarnable over at third base.
- 1:38:58Randy's waiting for Ken Griffey to come in.
- 1:39:01And he'll get a high five from Ken Griffey as he makes his way to the dugout.
- 1:39:06No runs. One hit. No layers.
- 1:39:09A man left on and one outstanding defensive play by the elder Griffey.
- 1:39:13And after five and a half innings of play the Mariners still lead Kansas City four to two.
- 1:39:20This next minute is just one of the 10,000 and 80 minutes that make up this week.

- 1:45:02You and sis.
- 1:45:03Come on, meet my daughter.
- 1:45:04Oh, boy.
- 1:45:05I would vote for you.
- 1:45:06Stuck in traffic, nearly late, nearly out of gas, and nearly concerned about it all.
- 1:45:15Until a red-blue Chevron sign flags me down like an Indy-5 pit stop.
- 1:45:21I'd pump some Chevron Supreme and resume the road.
- 1:45:25In time to be on time.
- 1:45:27Chevron stations here, there, and just where I needed one.
- 1:45:31We're with you all the way, Chevron.
- 1:45:35All day, all day, all day, all day.
- 1:45:41Back once again, everybody.
- 1:45:43Rick Riz along with Dave Nehous, Producer, Engineer, Kevin Kremen, here on a most historic night here on the Dome
- 1:45:48as the Baroners lead Kansas City 4-2 as we go to the top of the seventh inning.
- 1:45:54Baroners with four runs on seven base hits, no errors.
- 1:45:57And for the Royals, two runs on four hits and one error.
- 1:46:04Leading it off to the Royals here on the top of the seventh inning, Jim Eisenreich.
- 1:46:07He'll be followed by Bill Ficot and then Frank White.
- 1:46:11Eisenreich, all for one tonight, had a sacrifice by the run batted in in the second,
- 1:46:16and he's also grounded out to Reynolds at second base.
- 1:46:18The Hawks finish off the fine preseason by knocking off the defending Super Bowl champions
- 1:46:2230-10 tonight down at Candlestick Park in San Francisco.
- 1:46:25Of course, they did that last year, too.
- 1:46:27They beat the 49ers. Now they start playing for real.
- 1:46:31Here's Eisenreich hitting 2-96.
- 1:46:36Baroners and everybody else in baseball with a month to go.
- 1:46:39Swing and a miss by Eisenreich on the first pitch.
- 1:46:42Oh, and one. After tonight's game, only 31 games left for the Mariners this year.
- 1:46:48Johnson is the 0-1 pitch.
- 1:46:50Leiter's swinging a fly ball into shallow center field.
- 1:46:53The kid is there. Junior waits.
- 1:46:55Very nonchalantly, makes the easy catch, one away.
- 1:47:00And Ken Griffey Jr. and Ken Griffey continue to talk things up in the outfield.
- 1:47:06This is amazing, just watching these two gentlemen play.
- 1:47:09And it's incredible on both ends, the story of these two guys playing in the Major Leagues at the same time,
- 1:47:14now with the same ball club.
- 1:47:16Ken Griffey at 40 years of age, incredible that he's been able to play so long and so well.
- 1:47:21Bill Picotta turns the bun and he takes the pitch for a strike on one.
- 1:47:25He had a home run way out the left field back in the second.
- 1:47:27He's flying to center last summer for the fourth.
- 1:47:30And then on the other side, Ken Griffey Jr. making it to the Major Leagues.
- 1:47:34He's a 19-year-old kid last year.
- 1:47:37Just incredible. The 0-1 pitch, strike, two called on the outside corner, no balls and two strikes.
- 1:47:44First time it's ever been done in the history of the game of baseball and maybe the only time.
- 1:47:51You never know. The 0-2 pitch, swinging a chopper down the first base line,
- 1:47:54fair running behind the bag goes Pete O'Brien.
- 1:47:56He's got it, goes to the bag for the three unassisted put on and Bill Picotta two away.
- 1:48:01So in the meantime, after Randy Johnson was wobbling back in the second,
- 1:48:05he has settled out and pitted some excellent baseball.
- 1:48:08Looked at only four batters in the third. He retired the side in order in the fourth and again in the fifth.
- 1:48:13Looked at only four batters in the sixth and now he has two quick outs.
- 1:48:17Here in the Royals, half of the seventh. Mariners lead 4-2.
- 1:48:22Here's second baseman Frank White, the pitch, long outside, ball one.
- 1:48:29Griffey in left field, 40 years of age. Frank White about ready to turn 40.
- 1:48:33Royals also have catcher Bob Boone who is 42.
- 1:48:38Johnson ready, the one-hole pitch, low and inside, ball two, two balls and no strikes.
- 1:48:45There's a number of fellows over the last eight years that have been around.
- 1:48:49They've been around a lot longer.
- 1:48:51They've put together some long, brilliant careers into their early 40s.
- 1:48:57Here's the line down there, two-hole pitch, strike call two and one on Frank White.
- 1:49:01Two things have done that. First of all in the American League it's a designated hitter and overall it's big money.
- 1:49:08A lot of big money.
- 1:49:09Dolan Ryan at the age of 43, Charlie Huff, 42 years of age, pitching for Texas.
- 1:49:15The pitch outside, a white, two white, ball three, three and one to count on the Royals' second baseman.
- 1:49:25Frank hitting two-fifteen, two home runs, 19 runs batted in.
- 1:49:30Brandi DeWine down to three-one pitch, slider for a strike on the inside corner.
- 1:49:35The count is full on White, three and two.
- 1:49:39Adrian Garrett coaching down at third.
- 1:49:42Bob Schaeffer at first base for Kansas City.
- 1:49:45Most of the scoring done early tonight.
- 1:49:48Here's DeWine down to three-two pitch, swing and a ground ball out to Schaeffer at third.
- 1:49:52Jeff has it, toss across and it's one, two, three.
- 1:49:55For the Royals in the seventh inning, no runs, no hits, no airs, no funny left on.
- 1:50:00The fans here in the kingdom, 27,000 plus, will take their seventh inning stretch after six and one half innings.
- 1:50:07Our score, the Mariners four, Kansas City two.
- 1:50:12For a lot of bright, motivated high school graduates, the future is up in the air.

- 1:51:07See your Air Force recruiter. Aim high, Air Force.
- 1:51:13On your marks.
- 1:51:15The organizers of a recent national sports event had a slight coordination problem.
- 1:51:20How to link 34 events in six different cities.
- 1:51:24So GTE designed and maintained the network that not only connected people to information,
- 1:51:30but made it possible for the competition to begin.
- 1:51:33You see, at GTE, it's not just communications we offer, it's solutions.
- 1:51:38GTE. The power is mine.
- 1:51:45Designated hitter Alvin Davis will lead off the bottom of the seventh inning as the Baron is late Kansas City 42.
- 1:51:51He'll be followed by first baseman Peter O'Brien and then right fielder Jay Buhner.
- 1:51:56You betcha, this is kind of a goose bumpy kind of a night.
- 1:52:00With Ken Griffey on the left, Ken Griffey Jr. in center field,
- 1:52:03Mothersen-Comble first time in the history of the game playing on the same ball club.
- 1:52:08And if a game like this doesn't make you a little kid, no matter what age you are, I don't know what will.
- 1:52:14Here's the pitch on the way to Alvin, swinging a line drive left center field.
- 1:52:17That will drop in and it gets on by Bull all the way to the wall.
- 1:52:21Backhanded by McRae, Davis will wind up on its second base.
- 1:52:26That should go as a double. It was hit in the gap. Jackson had to go to his left.
- 1:52:32Alvin Davis will wind up at second base.
- 1:52:34I tell you though, Mo Jackson won't ever make anybody forget Joe Rudy out there in left field.
- 1:52:40No he won't.
- 1:52:41He has, he packs the ball in Kansas City, too, you might recall.
- 1:52:44I'll take it, I'll take it.
- 1:52:46He had a rough time on that line here, the screaming line drive in the left center field.
- 1:52:51Davis on its second and here's first baseman Peter O'Brien.
- 1:52:54Once again the shift is on for Pete, three infielders on the right side, the pitch on the way and Davis keeps it inside.
- 1:53:03Storm Davis, ball one, and that's where he will try to keep it.
- 1:53:07O'Brien with the shift on, second baseman Frank White is a good five steps in shallow right field.
- 1:53:12Shortstop Steve Jeltz, way on the other side of second, sites are the only infielder on the left side, swinging a line drive, pow!
- 1:53:19On a hop, it sizzles right in the middle of the Baroness bullpen.
- 1:53:23A scatter and a fan makes a nice catch on one hop, and the count is even on Pete O'Brien, one ball and one strike.
- 1:53:29There is a chance to pan their two run lead with a base hit here.
- 1:53:33Storm Davis is ready, here's the one, one, fifth swing and a line drive and a hop taken by White in shallow right field.
- 1:53:39And from right field he throws out Pete O'Brien at first base and on the play Davis goes to third.
- 1:53:44So Pete O'Brien hits it to the right side to send Davis along to third, he gets that job done.
- 1:53:49Let's pause for station identification, this is the Seattle Baroness Radio Network.
- 1:53:55When you hear country favorites, it's on continuous country KMPS.
- 1:54:00A better mix of great country songs played 12 in a row, the new KMPS Seattle.
- 1:54:06Alvin Davis on a third base, one out, bottom of the seventh, four two M's and here's right fielder Jay Buna.
- 1:54:18The pitch, strike called 0-1 and now a healthy fly ball gives you another run.
- 1:54:22As Pete O'Brien's ground ball was able to get Alvin Davis from second or third.
- 1:54:28The infield half way up the middle, a little closer at the corners, the quarter at first, sites her over at third base.
- 1:54:33Davis is 0-1 pitch, high and away, ball one, one ball and one strike.
- 1:54:37Jay Buna tonight has walked single, doubled and has a run batted in and now time is called.
- 1:54:42Here comes John Wathen and the Kansas City trainer out to check up on Storm Davis.
- 1:54:46Storm Davis immediately after throwing that pitch, walked off the mound, grabbed his side and there's something might have caught, might have pulled.
- 1:54:55And immediately the catcher Mike McFarland goes out there and now the Kansas City Medical Corps along with Duke Lotham wanting to be sure that Storm Davis is alright.
- 1:55:05That pitch way high and outside and then after when he just did a little hop on that left leg and I guess he's going to be alright.
- 1:55:14We'll see Mickey Cowbeer tonight.
- 1:55:17This is the trainer Nick Swartz is out there to check up.
- 1:55:20Mickey is here by the way. Let's go on Davis will get a chance to throw a few warm up pitches to make sure that he is alright.
- 1:55:28John Wathen wants to make sure because he has some people down in the bullpen ready just in case.
- 1:55:35Scott Izzy, Israel Sanchez, the left hander, Mel Stoudemire Jr., the right hander and apparently Storm is going to hang around and pitch to Jay Buna with a count one ball and one strike.
- 1:55:46Fans remember coming up on Saturday September the 1st is Washington natural gas knitted scarf night as the M's host the Royals.
- 1:55:51The first 15,000 adults in attendance receive a bright blue and gold knitted Marinus scarf.
- 1:55:56Make plans to be on hand for Marinus knitted scarf night Saturday September the 1st.
- 1:56:00That's tomorrow night. Reserve your tickets by stopping by the Kingdome or call Ticketmaster at 628-0888.
- 1:56:06Here's the pitch to Buna fastball outside ball two. Two balls and a strike.
- 1:56:11So whatever it was evidently Storm Davis said that he is alright and stays in the game.
- 1:56:18Davis from the stretch and storms to one pitch to Buna swing and a foul back right in on his hands and the count has even had two balls two strikes.
- 1:56:27Buna's wrapping up the dismal month of August.
- 1:56:33Right now the M's with a record of nine and 18 for August.
- 1:56:37There's time with their four runs way over their average for the month.
- 1:56:42Here's the pitch on the way swinging a ground ball to backhanded by shortstop Steve Jeltz checks the runner at third goes the first for the out and Jay Buna holding it.
- 1:56:49Third base is Alvin Davis.
- 1:56:52Steve Jeltz was playing in about halfway over at shortstop.
- 1:56:55He had time to quickly pull to his right to make the backhanded stab at the high ground ball up the bat of Jay Buna.
- 1:57:01He throws him out at first base and Alvin Davis stays at third.
- 1:57:06So a two down here is new third baseman Jeff Schaefer.
- 1:57:10Coming on for the injured Edgar Martinez Schaefer tonight.
- 1:57:13All for one is grounded at third.
- 1:57:15The pitch long outside ball one one and oh.
- 1:57:20Nice ground of twenty seven thousand one hundred and sixty six.
- 1:57:23The Banners will set a new attendance record this year before it's all over.
- 1:57:28Stretch and the one oh pitch swing and a bouncer fouled away on the third base side and the count is even on Schaefer.
- 1:57:34And one and one Jeff hitting a buck ninety four.
- 1:57:38No homeruns and three runs batted in.
- 1:57:42Trying to punch one through the infield or fire the gap.
- 1:57:46The son Davis home from third base Mariners looking for a clutch hit.
- 1:57:50Here in the seventh Mariners lead four to two Davis ready.
- 1:57:54And a one one pitch fastball misses outside ball two two balls and a strike.
- 1:57:59Storm Davis originally with a Baltimore Orioles had a pretty good year back in 1983.
- 1:58:06First full season of the major leagues.
- 1:58:11Here's the stretch and the two one pitch in the dirt.
- 1:58:15Good stop by the catcher Mike McFarland ball three three and one on Jeff Schaefer.
- 1:58:20He was traded away by Baltimore to San Diego in a deal for Mark Williamson and veteran catcher Bob Kennedy.
- 1:58:26Or rather Terry Kennedy. There's a father son act one of the one hundred and eleven father and sons who played in baseball.
- 1:58:32Terry Kennedy now with San Francisco.
- 1:58:35And it was traded away by San Diego to Oakland three years ago.
- 1:58:41Signed as a free agent with Kansas City swing a high ground ball down the third base line by Siteser down the left field side into the corner.
- 1:58:47Here comes Alvin Davis on the score and Jeff Schaefer goes to the second base with an RBI double.
- 1:58:54The Marlins have a five to two lead over Kansas City with two outs.
- 1:58:58Jeff Schaefer comes through with a clutch base hit.
- 1:59:02High ground ball just fair right over the back of third base and into the corner and Schaefer is on its second. Davis scores from third.
- 1:59:11So a double and a run batted in for Jeff Schaefer and here comes manager Duke Wathen out of the doggone and that will be it for Storm Davis tonight.
- 1:59:19New up next the left handed bat of catcher Scott Bradley. So Israel Sanchez will get the call out of the bullpen.
- 1:59:26The left hander John Wathen still at the top of the mound and now the call goes out to the left hander Sanchez who will come on and relieve here in the bottom of the seventh inning.
- 1:59:37So the Mariners now with a three run lead at five to two and as the change is made we're going to take this time out.
- 1:59:45Well friends you may be missing one of the finest meal time experiences right here in Mariners country if you're not heating Gaze bread and rolls at home.
- 1:59:51That's right the taste of those delicious bakery products from Gaze just comes alive when they're warm inside and crunchy outside after just five minutes in the oven at 375 degrees.
- 2:00:00So make your next meal an even warmer experience. Be sure to take just a little extra time and warm your bread and rolls from Gaze.
- 2:00:07G-A-I-A-P-O-S-T-E-S
- 2:00:10You know that it's good when it's Gaze.
- 2:00:13Northwest industry is on the move and the people who keep it moving count on Chevron lubricants from Schultz Distributing.
- 2:00:18People like John Sullivan of Service Equipment.
- 2:00:21Schultz is there not only in the good times but in the bad times when you've got an oil shortage or you need a special product or you're having a problem with a piece of equipment.

- 2:00:36So far we haven't seen anything to beat what Schultz is giving us.
- 2:00:39Call Schultz Distributing at 682-8427.
- 2:00:43Left hander Israel Sanchez hasn't worked that much at all.
- 2:00:49Matter of fact he's only worked in a couple of innings, one of those innings against the Mariners when the M's were in Kansas City last weekend.
- 2:00:55No record, a nine earned run average. He's given up three hits, two runs, both of them earned in his brief appearance.
- 2:01:02So he will come in and face left handed battering Scott Bradley.
- 2:01:06As far as Storm Davis is concerned, six and two thirds innings, nine hits, so far five runs.
- 2:01:12They have all been earned, he walks six and he strikes out long.
- 2:01:15We'll forget it's tomorrow night now because we'll be along your way half an hour earlier at 636 for the Jim LaFever Show Billy Swift against Jim Campbell.
- 2:01:24And then Sunday afternoon we'll wrap up this brief home stand as Brian Holman faces Tom Gordon.
- 2:01:30Our pregame show at 106 the first pitch at 135.
- 2:01:34Five-two Mariners, here's Scott Bradley against Israel Sanchez.
- 2:01:39With so many injuries to the Royals this year, Sanchez got the call from the minor leagues from double A Memphis.
- 2:01:46On August the 10th with the Memphis Chicks he was one and two with a 3.10 ERA.
- 2:01:51The left hander works from the set and a pitch on the way to Scott Bradley, a breaking ball, low and outside, ball one.
- 2:01:59Jeff Schaeffer on at second base with his second double of the year and his fourth run banded in.
- 2:02:04The Mariners now lead the Royals 5-2, the pitch.
- 2:02:07Low and outside, the Bradley ball two, two balls and no strikes.
- 2:02:13So that's it for Storm Davis, but the book is that closed on Davis with Schaeffer at second base.
- 2:02:20And field back with two outs.
- 2:02:22Sanchez ready, delivers two-o pitch, strike on the outside corner, two and one.
- 2:02:28Scott Bradley tonight, one to three, singled in the third.
- 2:02:33Scott hitting two, 32 a home run and 27 RBIs.
- 2:02:37The stretch and the two-one pitch.
- 2:02:40Fastball just a little bit low, ball three, three and one.
- 2:02:47Making plans to come on by tomorrow night.
- 2:02:49Game time, 7.05, Billy Swift against Jim Campbell.
- 2:02:53He'll be making his third major league start.
- 2:02:55Next offer on the way, swinging a hot one-hopper taken by Patoda deep at first base.
- 2:02:59He will underhand to Sanchez at the bag at first for the out and Bradley to retire the side.
- 2:03:04The Mariners get one run here in the seventh inning on a couple of base hits, doubles by Alvin Davis and Jeff Schaeffer.
- 2:03:10No errors and one man left on.
- 2:03:12And after seven innings of play here in the Kingdome, it's the Mariners five, Kansas City two.
- 2:03:26Oh, it's got a light on you, it's got a light on me. Keep your Bud Light shining, for everyone to see. It's got a light on this, it's got a light on that. I'm shining all these others is where Bud Light is best.
- 2:03:41Bud Light's clean, fresh taste won't fill you up and never puts you down.
- 2:03:47It doesn't ice cold Bud Light sound real good right now.
- 2:03:52Well, you can taste it, you can feel it, you know you got it right
- 2:03:56Cause everything else is just a lie, just a lie
- 2:04:00Keep your button lights shining
- 2:04:03Everything else is just a lie, keep your button lights shining
- 2:04:07Everything else is just a lie, keep on keepin' on
- 2:04:10Everything else is just a lie, button lights shining
- 2:04:14Anheuser-Gurche, St. Louis, Missouri
- 2:04:16Your button lights shining
- 2:04:18And now, another visit with Lefty Bender, baseball guy
- 2:04:21I was real flattered when the Mariners decided to honor me on my birthday this year
- 2:04:25They went all out, shoot they gave me a nice equipment bag, a souvenir ball, a free hot dog
- 2:04:31They even put my name on the scoreboard
- 2:04:33After 38 years it was finally Lefty Bender Day
- 2:04:36Then somebody told me they can do this for everybody's birthday
- 2:04:40Give someone a birthday to remember, call 628-3555
- 2:04:44And ask about the new Seattle Mariners special birthday package
- 2:04:54Welcome back to the Kingdom as we go to the top of the eighth inning
- 2:04:57On a heck of an exciting night with the appearance of Ken Griffey in left field
- 2:05:01And Ken Griffey Jr. in center
- 2:05:03A lot of things happening for the Mariners, especially offensively
- 2:05:05Because the Mariners have a 5-2 lead over the Kansas City Royals
- 2:05:09And left-hander Randy Johnson
- 2:05:11I'm so excited what Mr. Johnson has done tonight with everything else going on
- 2:05:14Because Randy Johnson has pitched a whale of a ballgame
- 2:05:17Randy Johnson has given up two runs on only four base hits
- 2:05:20So Randy Johnson doing a great job going after his 13th win of the year
- 2:05:24And right now Randy has a three-run advantage at 5-2
- 2:05:27So as we go to the top of the eighth, there's Dave with the play-by-play
- 2:05:31All right, Rick and Steve Jelts who has grounded out the first
- 2:05:34And also hit a little trickler down to the shortstop Omar Vizquel
- 2:05:38All for two, we'll start it off
- 2:05:40The Mariners leading it by a score of 5-2
- 2:05:43As Randy Johnson trying to win his 13th game of the year
- 2:05:47Against only eight losses
- 2:05:49Goes into his wind, the pitch to Steve Jelts
- 2:05:51And the fastball misses very high
- 2:05:53And outside ball one, what a no, it's great to have had you all with us
- 2:05:56And everybody hanging around
- 2:05:58The Griffey's will get at least one more at bat
- 2:06:0027,166 here on this historic evening
- 2:06:05And the pitch that changed breaking balls
- 2:06:07Strike right at the knees
- 2:06:10One ball and one strike on Steve Jelts
- 2:06:13Again, Griffey straight away and left
- 2:06:15Junior meandering over toward left center now
- 2:06:17And Buhner is straight away and right
- 2:06:19The 1-1 pitch and it's a little high
- 2:06:21And outside ball two, two balls and one strike
- 2:06:24On Steve Jelts
- 2:06:29The big 6'10 left hand are ready to come in with the 2-1 pitch
- 2:06:33Here it is now, to Jelts and the breaking ball
- 2:06:35Two low, ball three, three and one
- 2:06:38Randy has walked two
- 2:06:40And he has struck out four so far in this ball game
- 2:06:43Jelts hitting only 1.46
- 2:06:48Kevin Seitzer next, we are in the eighth
- 2:06:51And the 3-1 pitch on the way now
- 2:06:53Fastball strike down the middle and the count for three balls and two strikes
- 2:06:57And R.J., ready to come back with the payoff pitch
- 2:07:00Here it is, fastball swung on, tapped toward the hole on the right side
- 2:07:03Backhanded by O'Brien, the throw to the big guy
- 2:07:06Randy Johnson covering in time
- 2:07:08Good play by Pete O'Brien
- 2:07:11Good hustle by Randy Johnson, one out
- 2:07:13Horizon Air has the most flights between cities throughout the North
- 2:07:17Plus easy connections and low fares with their trailing
- 2:07:21And the 2-1 pitch is now in the eighth
- 2:07:23Throughout the Northwest, plus easy connections and low fares with their travel partners
- 2:07:28Alaska Airlines and Northwest Airlines
- 2:07:31So whether you're traveling around the Northwest or around the world
- 2:07:35You can get a flying start with Horizon Air
- 2:07:38Here are Seitzer now
- 2:07:40Wind in the pitch on the way to Kevin and the slider strike at the knees
- 2:07:45Oh and one
- 2:07:46Boston winning their eighth in a row, they knock off the Yankees 7-3 at Fenway tonight
- 2:07:53The next delivery on the way
- 2:07:56And the fastball, back Seitzer off the plate inside
- 2:08:00Ball one, one ball and one strike
- 2:08:02Milwaukee beats Baltimore 4-1
- 2:08:04Toronto makes it two in a row, they knock off Cleveland 12-8
- 2:08:09Detroit beats Minnesota 12-6
- 2:08:11The 1-1 pitch now, Seitzer takes low ball
- 2:08:15Two, two balls and a strike
- 2:08:17Games underway, Oakland leading Texas in the bottom of the seventh
- 2:08:213-2 at the Coliseum
- 2:08:23And the Chicago White Sox
- 2:08:26Leading the Angels and Mark Langston 3-2 in the top of the seventh inning
- 2:08:30At the big A, National League is
- 2:08:33Been finished for some time
- 2:08:36The 2-1 pitch on the way to Seitzer
- 2:08:38And the strike is called on the outside edge, slider
- 2:08:41Two balls and two strikes
- 2:08:43The Mariners have out hit Kansas City 9-4
- 2:08:46And they have squandered several opportunities or at least one opportunity
- 2:08:49Runners at second and third, nobody out, they couldn't get anybody in
- 2:08:52In fact, they had already scored a run
- 2:08:54The 2-2 pitch on the way, the fastball low inside
- 2:08:57Ball three, three and two
- 2:09:03Well, we are going to endeavor
- 2:09:05We will try to get one of the Griffies on our postgame show
- 2:09:08It's gonna be a zoo down there tonight
- 2:09:11With all the media attention
- 2:09:14But I'm sure that we shall do our best
- 2:09:19To try and get a word from either father or son
- 2:09:22On this historic night
- 2:09:24The 3-2 pitch, one on hard ground ball hit to Schaefer
- 2:09:26Takes into his right knee, but he straightens up, throws low
- 2:09:29A one hopper away from Pete O'Brien
- 2:09:32So we'll wait and see how they score that
- 2:09:34Probably an error, E-5 on Jeff Schaefer
- 2:09:37He fielded it and then went to his right knee
- 2:09:39And that's exactly what it'll be, E-5
- 2:09:46Ryan McCray will be the hitter
- 2:09:50McCray has grounded to first, fouled out to first
- 2:09:54And in a line drive to third
- 2:09:57That's a tough hop for the first baseman
- 2:09:59The one that's only about three or four feet down in front of you
- 2:10:02Because you just don't know where the ball is gonna go
- 2:10:05Either flying out or take a high hop
- 2:10:07And Pete O'Brien was hand-tapped over at first base on a tough throw
- 2:10:11Jim LeFevre slowly walking out to the mound
- 2:10:14And just now three times
- 2:10:18But he's in the hole now, a ball and two strikes
- 2:10:20Wearing that rookie number, number 56
- 2:10:22The stretch and the one-two pitch to McCray now
- 2:10:24And the fastball, one on line drive, they hit right field
- 2:10:27So all of a sudden the Kansas City Royals bring the tying run to the plate here in the eighth
- 2:10:32And here's a man who can hit it out of anywhere, Danny Tartaboll
- 2:10:35McCray goes the other way
- 2:10:38Tartaboll struck out, singled, and he has walked
- 2:10:44And all of a sudden Billy Swift throwing a hider down in that bullpen
- 2:10:47If Swift comes into this ballgame, obviously some adjustments will have to be made
- 2:10:52The Mariners calling up
- 2:10:57Nine players
- 2:10:59And they'll be trickling in over the weekend from the minor league system
- 2:11:02And here comes Jim LeFevre, LeFevre, and that's going to be it for Randy Johnson
- 2:11:07And Johnson is going to be steaming when he walks off that mound
- 2:11:12The error here in the eighth and now the base hit
- 2:11:15He has thrown 125 pitches, however
- 2:11:18And here comes Billy Swift
- 2:11:21And so tomorrow night we'll just have to wait and see who will face the Kansas City Royals in the second game of this three-game series
- 2:11:31The Kansas City all of a sudden now with a tying run at the plate
- 2:11:35And LeFevre will go and get this sinker baller, Billy Swift, will take this time out
- 2:11:41James, why is there a giant pit in the backyard?
- 2:11:44Another quick reason for a Campbell's Junkie Soup
- 2:11:46Well, Dad, first my termite collection got loose in the basement
- 2:11:49Then I had to get the lawnmower out of the pool
- 2:11:51And once I got the dog off the meal bin, I finally took a break
- 2:11:54It's Campbell's Junkie Soup
- 2:11:55When you've got lots going on, stop for a bowl of Junkie Soup
- 2:11:58It's hearty, satisfying, and cooks up in minutes
- 2:12:01So you get a delicious break without missing a beat
- 2:12:03So as you can see, I had to dig that tunnel to the mall, okay? See ya
- 2:12:06Tunnel to the mall? Campbell's Junkie Soup
- 2:12:09The satisfying stop that keeps you going
- 2:12:12If you don't come to the preseason ski sale at Sturtevance in Bellevue, you'll kick yourself this winter
- 2:12:16And not only does that hurt, it looks funny
- 2:12:19Shop Sturtevance and you won't have to kick yourself
- 2:12:21The latest hardware, no leftovers, all on sale up to 40% off
- 2:12:25Plus Sturtevance has made a special purchase of skiwear
- 2:12:28Hundreds of salesman samples and factory closeouts at savings up to 50%
- 2:12:32And layaways welcome
- 2:12:33So remember, if you don't come, you're going to kick yourself
- 2:12:36An alternative, yes, albeit a painful one
- 2:12:39Sturtevance preseason ski sale is on today through Labor Day
- 2:12:43Well, think of all specialists
- 2:12:45Right-handed Billy Swift on in relief here in the top of the eighth inning
- 2:12:48The Mariners lead 5-2 Kansas City with runners out at first and second
- 2:12:52With one away
- 2:12:53So Billy Swift, scheduled to get this time last night, will come on in relief tonight
- 2:12:57Billy with a record of 5-4 with a 2.170 RA
- 2:13:02He makes his 40th appearance of the year, he has started eight games
- 2:13:04And a tremendous job in the rotation for a long time
- 2:13:07Since the middle of July, he has two saves
- 2:13:09In 108 innings, he's given up 112 hits
- 2:13:12He's walked 16 and struck out 34, so that's it for Randy Johnson
- 2:13:16Who goes seven in the third innings
- 2:13:18Throws one in between 25 pitches, gave up five hits, walked two and he struck out four
- 2:13:23Well, here's the man who has hit home runs in three consecutive games now
- 2:13:27And a long ball here gets Kansas City back even
- 2:13:30As the Mariners lead at 5-2 and Tardyball will be looking for the six
- 2:13:34Here comes the swift stretch, the pitch on the way to Danny and the fastball inside, ball one
- 2:13:40One ball and no strikes, Siteser is at second base and McCray is over at first
- 2:13:45And Keith Comstock left-hander down in the pen throwing
- 2:13:49Swift-Dodd's all right, comes in with the 1-0 pitch to the bulls
- 2:13:54Wing and a foul straight back
- 2:13:56A ball and a strike, nine hits for the Mariners, five for Kansas City
- 2:14:00Randy Johnson threw 125 pitches in his seven and one third inning stint
- 2:14:09Mariners looking for the sharply hit ground ball to an infielder here to give them a chance to turn it over
- 2:14:14Swift-D again his stretch, the 1-1 pitch to Danny Tardyball
- 2:14:18Oh, ball two, two balls and a strike
- 2:14:27Tardyball a ever so slightly closed stance at the plate, pumping at the wood almost straight into the ground as he tries to time it
- 2:14:34The 2-1 pitch by Swift now, swing on ground ball, hit to Reynolds at second base, he steps on the bag, throws to a flag, double play
- 2:14:44What's it up shorted, Billy Swift got the flicker and Danny Tardyball is right near the bag
- 2:14:50And Reynolds playing over that way with a full-hitting Danny Tardyball
- 2:14:54The double play going four to three and the acing is over
- 2:14:59One run, one hit, one error, one man left
- 2:15:04And speaking of man left, this girl, Reynolds and Ken Grippy, if either of those three get a board, Junior will also get a shot to hit again in the bottom half of the eighth inning
- 2:15:16So we go into the bottom half of the eighth, the Mariners five, Kansas City two
- 2:15:22Do you realize this is our first real dinner alone in 25 years?
- 2:15:27Can you believe it, no kids, it's like when we were first married
- 2:15:30Now our kids have kids and our youngest is in college, I'm going to miss him
- 2:15:35I miss all the kids, but at least I'll have a car to myself
- 2:15:38Oh honey, that reminds me, we have to change our insurance
- 2:15:41When things change, one thing is certain, it's time for a farmer's friendly review
- 2:15:46For over 60 years, the professionals with the farmer's insurance group of companies have made it their business to keep up with your changing needs
- 2:15:53So whether your children are grown up or there's another one on the way, it's time for a farmer's friendly review
- 2:15:59Because life never stays the same
- 2:16:01I think we'll be making a lot of changes
- 2:16:03You mean maybe you'll wash and I'll dry
- 2:16:06No, let's take things one step at a time
- 2:16:08America can depend on farmers
- 2:16:11For a farmer's insurance service that you can count on, see Vern Valentine on California Avenue Southwest in West Seattle
- 2:16:17And Richard Frey and Donna Abram on 196 Southwest in Linwood
- 2:16:21They ripped open the trunk of the car and took everything
- 2:16:24It took us 24 hours to replace the checks that are not American Express
- 2:16:28And that just made a bad experience even worse
- 2:16:31I went to our bank when we returned from our vacation and they said they were sorry, they had no idea
- 2:16:36But they said they don't handle American Express and we said, well you should
- 2:16:40The right traveler's check can save your vacation
- 2:16:43Make sure you take only American Express traveler's checks, don't leave home without them
- 2:16:48And we don't go anywhere without American Express
- 2:16:54Loading it off in the bottom half of the eighth inning, Omar Vizgal and the first pitch is popped up to the first baseman Bill Picotta
- 2:17:00So one pitch and one down
- 2:17:02Second baseman, Harold Reynolds
- 2:17:04In the bottom half of the eighth inning, number eight and here is Harold Reynolds
- 2:17:09Israel Sanchez in relief of Storm Davis
- 2:17:12Reynolds up for the first time from the right hand side, his higher average side where he's hitting 252
- 2:17:19And Ken Griffey is on deck, the wind and the pitch are on the way
- 2:17:23Low ball, one ball and no strikes, five runs, nine hits for Seattle
- 2:17:28Two runs, five hits for Kansas City, a very happy crowd, a festive crowd here tonight of 27,166
- 2:17:37Just a tinge of fall in the air in the Puget Sound area
- 2:17:42The Sanchez 1-0 pitch, swung on, ground ball hit wide of third, backhand it in the hole by Jelsa, long throw and a hop, not in time
- 2:17:49That'll be an infield base hit for Harold Reynolds
- 2:17:56For the Mariners, their tenth hit of the night
- 2:17:59And unless Ken Griffey hits into a double play, you'll get to see both Griffey's hit one more time here in attendance
- 2:18:06If you are listening to the radio tonight and not keeping score, this is one of those nights where you're a real baseball fan, you've got to keep score
- 2:18:16Griffey in his Mariner debut, a line shot right back up the middle in the first inning
- 2:18:21He then walks in the second and has grounded his second and grounded the first
- 2:18:28His son is on deck
- 2:18:30Oh, that's unusual to say
- 2:18:32Here comes the stretch, the pitch on the way to Griffey now on a high breaking ball
- 2:18:37He was not around the front with a man down and a three run lead and nor would you figure him to be
- 2:18:42Although he takes that long look down at his ex-teammate, Bill Plummer, coaching for the M's in the third base coaches box
- 2:18:50The 1-0 pitch now to Griffey instead is a lob toss to first base, Reynolds is back to the bag
- 2:19:02Griffey waving at Darkstein back and forth and another throw to first base and Reynolds this time spinning his wheels a little bit
- 2:19:09And he just did get back under the tag of Bill Picotta
- 2:19:12Now Sanchez is set and the 1-0 pitch on the way to Griffey over the plate but low ball, two balls and no strikes
- 2:19:26Our pregame chat two nights ago with Ken Griffey and he said, yes I am
- 2:19:31Thinking about 1991, we'll see what happens in the final month of the season
- 2:19:37The 2-0 pitch on the way to Griffey and swung on on a ground ball hit to wide, got a chance to turn two to Jeltsis
- 2:19:43Throw to first base, double play
- 2:19:45So the kid won't get a chance to bat here in the eighth and the Mariners are hoping he doesn't get a chance to hit in the ninth
- 2:19:51They're hoping there'll be no bottom half of the ninth inning
- 2:19:54Four, six, three and in the eighth inning no runs, one hit, nobody left
- 2:20:01So last call for Kansas City, unless they can get three but they got some hammers coming up
- 2:20:05Bo Jackson, Mike McFarland and Jim Eisenreich at the end of 8-5-2, Mariners
- 2:20:12The single most expensive ingredient in your beer isn't something you can see or taste
- 2:20:18It's called excise tax and it already cost this country's beer drinkers over three billion dollars a year
- 2:20:25Now they want to increase the federal excise tax on your beer, raising its price again
- 2:20:31You've already given enough, now it's time to let them know it
- 2:20:35Call 1-800-33-TAXUS and tell them to can the beer tax
- 2:20:40A message from Anheuser-Busch, St. Louis, Missouri

- 2:20:55Let's go get a sandwich

- 2:21:06I think dad will approve
- 2:21:08Offer good at participating Chevron stations and retailers, expire September 30th

- 2:21:36And you don't have to be a multi-year free agent to afford one
- 2:21:39Test drive a new Passat today at your local Volkswagen dealer
- 2:21:45Well Billy Swift now looking for the save, he was scheduled to start tomorrow night
- 2:21:50So it remains to be seen who will pick up his spot tomorrow evening
- 2:21:53Bo Jackson will lead it off and Bo DeNittis walked in to score
- 2:21:57He is grounded to short, he is also single left and on a terrific throw by Ken Griffey
- 2:22:03He was out by 10 feet trying to stretch it into a double
- 2:22:06And before we tell you about the ninth let's pause for station identification
- 2:22:10This is the Mariners Radio Network
- 2:22:13Hi, this is Tony Thomas of the new KMPS

- 2:22:35One for two tonight, left hander Billy Swift
- 2:22:38Trying to save Randy Johnson's 13th victory of the year
- 2:22:43Just riffling with muscles
- 2:22:45Bo Jackson that broad shoulders, number 16 on his back
- 2:22:51The pitch by Billy Swift, Jackson takes low ball one
- 2:22:54One ball and no strikes
- 2:22:56Bo's not going to beat you here, if he's going to hit it out he's going to hit it out
- 2:22:59You don't want to walk people
- 2:23:01Here in the ninth with that three run lead, five-two
- 2:23:06Jackson wet ready and the pitch by Swift's one on
- 2:23:09Two hopper hit to Harold Reynolds at second base
- 2:23:11And Reynolds will throw him out
- 2:23:13So Jackson is gone
- 2:23:16One out and Mike McFarlane the hitter
- 2:23:19Well the MCI fan appreciation gala

- 2:24:14Junior picks it up, as Reynolds gave it a tremendous drive
- 2:24:18It could not quite get to that little parachute job
- 2:24:21So Eisenreich who is 0-4-2 officially
- 2:24:25Had the sacrifice play in the second inning, will be the hitter

- 2:24:56And the pitch on the way to Jimmy, swung on, ground ball

- 2:26:37He's now 7-10 and Billy Swift picks up his third save of the year

- 2:30:39And on this very special occasion, where Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. appear in the same ball game
- 2:30:45The first time father and son appear in a major league game together
- 2:30:48We have both, Ken Griffey and Ken Jr. on the radio tonight on Mariners Log
- 2:30:52On a very special night, Dave
- 2:30:54Well guys, congratulations, not only was it a special night in baseball history, but I guess, Ken, this is the first time that you've ever played in a baseball game with your son, isn't it?
- 2:31:03No, I played in a couple father and son games
- 2:31:06I mean, at any level
- 2:31:09At any level, yes, this is the first time
- 2:31:11Well tell us about the feeling, you step up to the plate, the second pitch, you just hit a bullet right back through the middle
- 2:31:17And you get a standing ovation, and then lo and behold, Jr. comes up behind you and hits a line drive to right field
- 2:31:24It had to be one of the highlights of your career
- 2:31:27Yes, I didn't think it would happen as fast, but I got a good pitch at the end, and I just tried to go back up the middle
- 2:31:32I tried to do too much with it, and then Jr. comes up and he just said to me he didn't want me out doing
- 2:31:38Jr., what did you think about the night? Did you have that tingly feeling too?
- 2:31:42I was a little nervous, I didn't know what to expect, but just wanted to go out and play and have fun
- 2:31:47Ken, I want to know about the throw on Bo Jackson, you nailed him by 10 feet trying to stretch that single into a double
- 2:31:54Well, he hit it so hard, I just played to Karam and I just come up throwing the second, I figured the only place that he would be kind of slacking off is because he thought I might be going to third base
- 2:32:04But I just come up prior to second and it surprised him a lot
- 2:32:08You surprised him by about 10 feet, what was your day like? I mean, you guys spent the day together, you came out to the ballpark, I assume about 2.33 o'clock or so
- 2:32:18Bertie was here, you haven't had a chance to talk to her, but I know that her heart's got to be beating about a thousand beats a minute right now
- 2:32:25What was your day like, both of you? Oh, same as it is every day, he's playing Nintendo, not talking to anybody
- 2:32:32Is that all you did all day long, Jr.? Yeah, I just sat around playing Nintendo and watched my mom and dad cook
- 2:32:39What did they cook? Chicken
- 2:32:41Chicken? Well, I have to have chicken, I love chicken and my wife cooks some chicken
- 2:32:46You and Wade Box? We just had a lot of fun, huh? You and Wade Box? I think I'm a little hit away
- 2:32:51Jr. and Ken Griffey, we were watching you between innings, Ken Jr., what were you guys laughing about between innings?
- 2:32:57Because you guys had a pretty good conversation going on pretty much the whole ball game
- 2:33:01Well, I think he was getting on me because he figured by the 6th of the night I should be home asleep
- 2:33:06So he was kind of harassing me a little bit, but we had a lot of fun
- 2:33:11Can't be expected things will start to maybe start to settle down over the next few days because you know you guys are going to get lobbed on the three remaining road trips for the rest of the year
- 2:33:19Well, you know, we're just going to take things as they are and see what happens
- 2:33:22We're just going to go out and do the job we've been doing, just try to have some fun with it and do the best job we can
- 2:33:27Jr., what was it like to have your dad off to your right there? Were you waiting for that first ball into the gap in left center field to see who was going to take it?
- 2:33:34Oh, he had it all the way. I was going to sit there and let him take it
- 2:33:38There you go. Jr., I've got to ask you this, as the introductions were made and you two guys headed for the outfield, dad headed for left field, you headed to Rich Garcia, the home plate umpire
- 2:33:50And there was a grin on his face. Did you say something like, now take it easy on the old man tonight? Or what did you say to him?
- 2:33:55No, he asked me to sign some baseball
- 2:33:57Oh, is that right?
- 2:33:59We got a couple we want you to sign later too. Ricky, I have one last question
- 2:34:03Have either one of you guys realized, has it sunk in the historical importance of what you two have accomplished in baseball here tonight in this Kingdome against the Kansas City Warriors?
- 2:34:14Myself as a senior, I don't think it'll settle in so probably later on tonight when I sit down and talk to my mother in Milwaukee
- 2:34:21What about you, Jr.?
- 2:34:23I'll be in that discussion, but I'll be playing the pinball
- 2:34:27Be sure and watch the news tonight, I'm sure it'll be covered by every channel in town. Thank you gentlemen very much, congratulations, it's quite a night for you all

- 2:36:12Fun night here in the Kingdome, fun fun night, Mariners win 5-2 over Kansas City
- 2:36:17Here's a look at this going, and the Mariners got things going right away
- 2:36:21And the script could not have unfolded any better for Ken Griffey and Ken Griffey Jr. because in the bottom of the first inning against Storm Davis with one out
- 2:36:30Here's Ken Griffey making his Mariner debut
- 2:36:34That familiar number 30 on his back in Storm Davis's next pitch, a fastball line drive, base hit, center field
- 2:36:40Almost toward the head of Storm Davis off, welcome to Seattle, Ken Griffey out, bullet, right back up the middle, would you believe it, my oh my, what a shot
- 2:36:51And after the base hit by Ken Griffey, Ken Griffey Jr. drilled a base hit into the right field, runners on at first and second with two aboard and one out, here's designated hitter Alvin Davis
- 2:37:03Here comes the stretch, the 3-1 pitch to Alvin, line drive, base hit, right center field, here comes Ken Griffey, he's going to score, Jr. to third base, he will hold there
- 2:37:14Mariners lead it 1-0
- 2:37:17And then with two outs after Pete O'Brien popped up to first baseman Bill Pocono Storm Davis, work to right fielder Jay Buhner
- 2:37:26Two balls, two strikes on Buhner in the stretch, the 2-2 pitch to Jay Buhner bounces up to the plate, fastball gets all the way back, here comes the kid, the kid will score
- 2:37:36So dad scores and his son scores in the first to make it 2-0
- 2:37:42Griffey Jr. scores on a wild pitch by Storm Davis
- 2:37:46Can you believe that, father and son score on the bottom of the first inning, Mariners weren't finished yet, after the wild pitch scored Ken Griffey Jr., here's third baseman Edgar Martinez
- 2:37:58Alvin, that's second, Buhner over at first and the 2-1 pitch, swung on, ground ball hit, back up the middle, under it, diving Steve Jo
- 2:38:07Here comes Alvin, to throw to third base, Mariners lead it 3-0
- 2:38:12Up Kansas City came right back with two runs in the top of the second, a lead off walk to Bo Jackson, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch with one out
- 2:38:21Jimmy Eisenreicher sacrificed wide at center field, that scored Bo to make it a 3-1 ball game and then Bill Pocono hit a home run, a long home run to left field
- 2:38:29His fourth home run of the year is second against Randy Johnson, that made it a 3-2 ball game, Mariners came back though with a big run in the bottom of the fifth inning
- 2:38:37A lead off walk to Alvin Davis and then Pete O'Brien walked and here's right fielder Jay Buhner
- 2:38:43The pitch on the way to Buhner, swung on, fly ball into the gap in right center field, nobody's going to get to that one, I don't believe it won't, it's off the base of the wall
- 2:38:50Here comes Alvin, here comes Pete O'Brien around third, they will hold him there on a double by Jay Buhner and it is 4-2, Jay Buhner getting that stroke back baby
- 2:39:00And then Ken Griffey in his Mariner debut came up with the big defensive play of the ball game in the top of the sixth inning with one out a walk to Danny Tideable and here's left fielder Bo Jackson
- 2:39:11For his number 16 on the back of his Royals jersey, straight away deep and left Ken Griffey
- 2:39:19Randy Johnson ready, here's the pitch on the way, swinging a hot shot, fair ball down the left field line into other corner, bangs off the walls out to Ken Griffey around the third
- 2:39:28Here's the throw to second base and they got a shot, Bo Jackson out at second base, Ken Griffey play the carom quickly off the wall behind the Royals bullpen
- 2:39:39He fires and a strike to Harold Reynolds at second base, Danielle Bo Jackson for the second out of the inning, Ken Griffey, what a night for the senior player 17 years of the major leagues
- 2:39:52Griffey with an outstanding throw, Danielle Bo at second base, Jackson with a single but he is out at second, two away, what a play, what a throw by Ken Griffey
- 2:40:03And the ball is picked up, a big insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning, up 4-2 a lead off double by Alvin Davis and with two outs, here's third baseman Jeff Schaefer
- 2:40:12The city swinging a high ground ball down the third base line by Sytzer down the left field side into the corner, here comes Alvin Davis on the score and Jeff Schaefer close to the second base
- 2:40:22With an RBI double in the Marist, have a 5-2 lead over Kansas City with two outs, Jeff Schaefer comes through with a clutch face hit, high ground ball, just fair right over the back
- 2:40:34And we went to the top of the ninth inning, the Mariners leading 5-2, Billy Swift on the mound, he gets Bo Jackson to bounce out to Harold Reynolds at second base, Mike McFarland in singles with one on and one away
- 2:40:44Here's right fielder Jim Eisenreich
- 2:40:46Getting the pitch on the way to Jimmy Swinger, on ground ball, hit to the shortstop, Bizzkill, he'll underhand to Reynolds, Reynolds, throw in time and it's over and what a night on baseball on this historic day, the last day of August, 1990, the father-son debut and it was fantastic
- 2:41:06It was exciting for everyone to see and the Mariners take it from the Kansas City Royals in the ninth inning, the double points
- 2:41:16So the Mariners kept an amazing night here in the Kingdome, Ken Griffey, Ken Griffey Jr. in the lineup at the same time and the Mariners come away with a 5-2 win over Kansas City, back with more from the Kingdome, this place is still a buzz right now, we'll be back right after this time out
