- 0:03Speaker 2: The next time you're on the fence about going to
- 0:05Speaker 2: a concert or a movie and you need some extra convincing,
- 0:07Speaker 2: maybe you should do it for your health.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Yeah, it's pretty wild, but also pretty encouraging.
- 0:12Speaker 3: A new study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and
- 0:14Speaker 3: Community Health directly links going to the movies with a
- 0:17Speaker 3: longer life.
- 0:18Speaker 4: What they call any cultural outing, regularly adding a play,
- 0:22Speaker 4: a film, hitting a museum, live music to your calendar,
- 0:25Speaker 4: reduces your biological age by three years.
- 0:28Speaker 2: Any cultural outing? What about Oktoberfest NYC?
- 0:32Speaker 1: Yeah, pop it in.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Well, I mean, that's not science, but it sounds fun.
- 0:35Speaker 2: As you age, it gets even more important to do
- 0:38Speaker 2: all this. Research was done by the Institute of Science
- 0:41Speaker 2: Tokyo on 1,900 people. Over the age of 50, these people.
- 0:44Speaker 2: And one reason their conclusions are so legit is because
- 0:47Speaker 2: they were very mindful of, quote, selection bias.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 0:52Speaker 5: Basically, you could argue people who get out to the movies, shows,
- 0:57Speaker 5: may have more money and therefore access to better health care,
- 1:00Speaker 5: food and so on. But big advantages to staying healthy.
- 1:03Speaker 4: So they looked at everybody's activities super specifically, monitoring their
- 1:07Speaker 4: health when they were individually more and less culturally active.
- 1:11Speaker 4: And they could literally see the biological age get way
- 1:14Speaker 4: younger when they were out having fun.
- 1:16Speaker 2: So you want to live longer? Go to a cultural outing.
- 1:20Speaker 1: That's direct from Hollywood.
