- Lucas: Hey Luna, bienvenidos back to Learn Spanish with Fexingo! Episode 77. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna! You know, last episode we talked about big and small. Today I want something that actually helps me when I'm feeling sick. Lucas: Oh, perfect timing. Today we're going to the pharmacy. Learning how to buy medicine in Spanish. Luna: Yes! Because nothing's worse than having a headache and not knowing how to ask for help. Lucas: Exactly. So let's start with the most common phrase: 'Necesito algo para el dolor de cabeza.' Say it with me, Luna. Luna: Necesito algo para el dolor de cabeza. Lucas: Good! That means 'I need something for a headache.' Let's break it down: 'necesito' is 'I need', 'algo' is 'something', 'para' is 'for', 'el dolor' is 'the pain', 'de cabeza' is 'of head'. So literally 'I need something for the pain of head.' Luna: Necesito algo para el dolor de cabeza. I love how logical it is. Lucas: Right. Now, what if you have allergies? You could say: '¿Tienes algo para la alergia?' Luna: ¿Tienes algo para la alergia? That's 'Do you have something for allergy?' Lucas: Exactly. 'Tienes' is 'you have', 'alergia' is 'allergy'. Great pronunciation. Luna: Okay, but what if I need something stronger? Like, do I need a prescription? Lucas: Great question. That phrase is '¿Necesito receta médica?' Luna: ¿Necesito receta médica? Receta médica... that's prescription, right? Lucas: Yes. 'Receta' is prescription, 'médica' is medical. So you're asking 'Do I need a medical prescription?' Luna: Got it. So if I don't need a prescription, what might the pharmacist say? Lucas: They might give you instructions like 'Tome una pastilla cada ocho horas.' Luna: Tome una pastilla cada ocho horas. That's 'Take one pill every eight hours'? Lucas: Exactly. 'Tome' is formal 'take', 'una pastilla' is 'one pill', 'cada' is 'every', 'ocho horas' is 'eight hours'. Luna: Okay, I can do that. And then I need to pay, so 'Gracias, ¿cuánto es?' Lucas: Perfect. 'Thank you, how much is it?' That wraps up the transaction nicely. Luna: So let me practice the whole scenario. I walk in and say: 'Necesito algo para el dolor de cabeza.' Lucas: Perfect start. Then the pharmacist might ask '¿Tienes alergia?' or something. But you can also say '¿Tienes algo para la alergia?' if needed. Luna: And if they give me a box, they might say 'Tome una pastilla cada ocho horas.' Lucas: Yes. And you respond 'Gracias, ¿cuánto es?' Luna: This is so useful. I feel ready for my next headache. Lucas: You know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Spanish, the way these episodes stay ad-free is through listener support. Can we do a quick roleplay? Lucas: Sure! I'll be the pharmacist. You walk in. Luna: Buenos días. Necesito algo para el dolor de cabeza. Lucas: Muy bien. ¿Tienes alergia a algún medicamento? Luna: No, no tengo alergia. ¿Necesito receta médica? Lucas: No, no necesitas receta. Tome una pastilla cada ocho horas. Luna: Gracias, ¿cuánto es? Lucas: Cinco euros. Perfecto! You did great. Luna: That felt natural. I love that we practiced the whole interaction. Lucas: Exactly. And remember, the key phrases are: Necesito algo para el dolor de cabeza, ¿Tienes algo para la alergia?, ¿Necesito receta médica?, Tome una pastilla cada ocho horas, and Gracias, ¿cuánto es? Luna: I'll practice those. Thanks, Lucas! Lucas: De nada, Luna. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time on Learn Spanish with Fexingo.
