Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Derek.
- 0:07Speaker 2: All right, well, I'm here with on Terminello's take ahead
- 0:09Speaker 2: of Game five, the man himself, lou Terminello and lou
- 0:13Speaker 2: we got a guest host will meet today, Ryan Pigano,
- 0:16Speaker 2: because you know Ryan's a huge Nick fan and can
- 0:19Speaker 2: talk through sports on pag's perspective. What a collab we
- 0:21Speaker 2: got going on right now, Louie.
- 0:24Speaker 1: I am honored to be with you two guys. Thank you.
- 0:27Speaker 2: All right. Twenty five years ago was the last time
- 0:31Speaker 2: the Knicks were in the conference finals, and they're on
- 0:33Speaker 2: the doorstep right now. So let's get to it. What
- 0:36Speaker 2: do they have to do to sale the deal in
- 0:37Speaker 2: Game five? We talk about the other night. I was
- 0:39Speaker 2: harping on it. Don't let the Celtics get up by
- 0:41Speaker 2: more than twenty. They held them pretty well considering the
- 0:43Speaker 2: last few games.
- 0:45Speaker 1: Yes, but the Celtics means championship team up fourteen points,
- 0:49Speaker 1: even though it was early in the third. You gotta
- 0:52Speaker 1: close that deal out. And the Celtics did what they
- 0:54Speaker 1: did those twenty point leads that they had in the
- 0:56Speaker 1: first two games in Boston. They just kept sucking threes.
- 1:01Speaker 1: That's all they kept doing. In the Knicks played the
- 1:05Speaker 1: best twenty one minutes of the playoffs, even against Detroit.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Those last twenty one minutes, everybody contributed, whether it's on
- 1:15Speaker 1: offense or on defense. Their scoring was balanced. Of course,
- 1:18Speaker 1: they were led by an offensive superstar and a guy
- 1:22Speaker 1: who's really a clutch player. I mean, he won the
- 1:27Speaker 1: Clutch Award. I really don't care about clutch awards. That's
- 1:30Speaker 1: just another NBA thing to do. But this guy is clutch,
- 1:35Speaker 1: and this guy is deadly down the stretch. He is
- 1:38Speaker 1: probably the number one clutch player in the NBA right
- 1:42Speaker 1: now and even going back to last year. Now, obviously,
- 1:47Speaker 1: with the Celtics best player out for the rest of
- 1:49Speaker 1: the series and out for next year, the Knicks guy
- 1:55Speaker 1: to close him out either tonight or Friday night.
- 1:59Speaker 2: They have to.
- 2:00Speaker 1: I mean, there's no way the Celtics can win three
- 2:02Speaker 1: in a row, or can they? I don't think so,
- 2:05Speaker 1: do you?
- 2:05Speaker 3: Ryan?
- 2:06Speaker 1: Do you? Alex? I don't think that the Celtics without
- 2:09Speaker 1: the best player can do that. I don't. Yeah.
- 2:12Speaker 3: I mean, granted, you know, the Celtics still are pretty
- 2:16Speaker 3: top heavy even without Jason Tatum, but that's still gonna
- 2:19Speaker 3: be a huge loss for them either way. Now I
- 2:22Speaker 3: could see momentum completely shifting to the Celtics side here
- 2:26Speaker 3: in Game five, just right, you know what, Let's win
- 2:29Speaker 3: one for Jason and we'll go from there. But to
- 2:32Speaker 3: let the Celtics sneak away with Game five in their
- 2:34Speaker 3: own garden would be a big mistake. Now, yeah, you'd
- 2:38Speaker 3: be going back to MSG for Game six, but even then,
- 2:42Speaker 3: now the tides are just completely starting to turn with
- 2:45Speaker 3: the Knicks up three to one, having the chance to
- 2:47Speaker 3: just close out the series right then and there. To
- 2:50Speaker 3: not get it done in your rivals building would be
- 2:54Speaker 3: a big mistake. But all everything just seeming to favor
- 2:58Speaker 3: the Knicks right now, led by the most clutch player
- 3:00Speaker 3: in the playoffs right now. It's you a good amount
- 3:03Speaker 3: of metrics rating Jalen Brunson as nobody's the most clutch
- 3:06Speaker 3: player in the playoffs right now, and nobody don't really
- 3:08Speaker 3: know who else is coming close to that.
- 3:10Speaker 1: Nobody's close. And the Celtics also, let's face it, the
- 3:17Speaker 1: Celtics also don't have for sing Us at one hundred
- 3:20Speaker 1: percent right last year, the nick should closed this out
- 3:25Speaker 1: and it should be a nice Eastern Conference final. Who's
- 3:28Speaker 1: any of the last four teams, whether Denver doesn't come back,
- 3:33Speaker 1: whether it's Oklahoma City finishing them off, if Minnesota finishes
- 3:38Speaker 1: off Golden State, and the only reason in my opinion
- 3:40Speaker 1: I could be wrong that Minnesota's head of Golden State
- 3:43Speaker 1: is because of the Curry injury. I really believe that.
- 3:47Speaker 1: That's how important Curry is, even at the age of
- 3:50Speaker 1: thirty seven. But the last four team standing, any of
- 3:54Speaker 1: those four teams can win, which you don't normally see
- 3:57Speaker 1: in an NBA season. You really don't see that in
- 4:00Speaker 1: the NBA postseason.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Now, let me let me shifts gears for a second,
- 4:04Speaker 2: because here's where I think the Knicks are really jelling
- 4:07Speaker 2: is when the guy files out the other night was Cat,
- 4:09Speaker 2: then it was Josh Hart the other night, but everybody
- 4:12Speaker 2: else steps up in their absence, and we didn't see
- 4:14Speaker 2: that last year in the Knicks. I felt like if
- 4:17Speaker 2: some guy went down, you weren't going to see the
- 4:19Speaker 2: comeback like we do right now? Am I right?
- 4:20Speaker 1: Oh? Certainly not.
- 4:21Speaker 3: I mean, whether it was bruntson ogn and Obi, you
- 4:25Speaker 3: name any key player from those Knicks, and I mean
- 4:28Speaker 3: chances are you would absolutely be correct about them. I mean,
- 4:30Speaker 3: they just got hampered with so many injuries and especially
- 4:34Speaker 3: in that Indiana series, Oh yeah last year, which just
- 4:38Speaker 3: played a big role in their Game seven loss at
- 4:40Speaker 3: the Garden last year, and they.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Had two chances to close them out last year. But
- 4:45Speaker 1: that's last year, so we did We forget about last year.
- 4:48Speaker 1: This team has as good a chance to get to
- 4:50Speaker 1: the finals and win the finals. They do, they really do. Now,
- 4:54Speaker 1: the best team roster wise is Oklahoma City, but they've
- 4:58Speaker 1: never been there. So that's the other thing. You got
- 5:01Speaker 1: a fact as and you know, as you go through
- 5:03Speaker 1: each round, it's different type of pressure. It really, it's
- 5:09Speaker 1: a different type of pressure. It's going to be that
- 5:10Speaker 1: way for any of these teams. Out of the four
- 5:13Speaker 1: teams that are left, you have two excellent coaches in
- 5:17Speaker 1: Thibodeau and Carlisle are going to face each other in
- 5:19Speaker 1: the next round. I would give the slight edge to Carlisle,
- 5:25Speaker 1: slight because he's won a championship. And but this is it.
- 5:33Speaker 1: I mean, you know when they say you gotta seize
- 5:35Speaker 1: the moment and we will hope.
- 5:37Speaker 2: The Irons hot all those places.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Yeah, you want to say, we were hoping that the
- 5:41Speaker 1: Mets were going to do that last year, And I
- 5:42Speaker 1: mean They obviously went through a gamut to get as
- 5:46Speaker 1: far as they did do. But you want to seize
- 5:50Speaker 1: the moment and win the whole thing. And I'm sure
- 5:54Speaker 1: whether it's if whether you're a fan in Oklahoma City
- 5:56Speaker 1: or in Indianapolis, Indiana, or in the Minneapolis, Minnesota if
- 6:02Speaker 1: they close it out, or in New York, this is
- 6:05Speaker 1: the chance to This is one of those rare years
- 6:08Speaker 1: to seize the moment and that yeah, it really is.
- 6:13Speaker 1: And Bridges is now playing like the Bridges they thought
- 6:18Speaker 1: that day got and let's face it, for a lot
- 6:20Speaker 1: of the year he was nowhere and he's playing like
- 6:24Speaker 1: the Bridges that that that played when he was with
- 6:29Speaker 1: the next And he's got to be playing with confidence.
- 6:32Speaker 1: There's no doubt that.
- 6:34Speaker 2: I mean, I love the a couple of kisses off
- 6:35Speaker 2: the glass he's had and the rebounds and I mean,
- 6:38Speaker 2: my guy, and the defensive stops. I mean, he's really
- 6:40Speaker 2: showed up. And you know, I saw him get introduced
- 6:43Speaker 2: to the crowd of the Roommate Show shout at the
- 6:45Speaker 2: Roommate Show Jalen and Josh's podcast, and they were pumped.
- 6:49Speaker 2: Even in September, they knew that they were getting a
- 6:50Speaker 2: big addition from McCall bridges. So it's it's exciting to
- 6:54Speaker 2: see them months later in this position right now. And
- 6:58Speaker 2: the garden's been rocking, Ryan as you know, been out there.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Actually we were at the celebrity row last game. The
- 7:04Speaker 2: energy is palpable, isn't it.
- 7:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean even outside the garden where you could
- 7:09Speaker 3: feel the energy even outside of there. For zero dollars
- 7:12Speaker 3: as opposed to paying that seven hundred and eight to
- 7:15Speaker 3: eight hundred dollars just to get in for Game four,
- 7:18Speaker 3: the energy was just palpable.
- 7:20Speaker 2: You know, they talk about the NBA being so accessible
- 7:22Speaker 2: in to fans and make it more affordable, then you
- 7:24Speaker 2: know what I mean?
- 7:25Speaker 1: I just well that that that that is so true
- 7:27Speaker 1: when you could talk about all these all these sports nowadays.
- 7:31Speaker 1: I mean you're talking to a guy who loves going
- 7:33Speaker 1: to games and uh, it's just unaffordable. And I haven't.
- 7:38Speaker 1: I mean, my attendance has been cut down so much
- 7:43Speaker 1: because the affordability is not there. It's just not there.
- 7:49Speaker 1: And again in the NBA, let's face it, and Alex
- 7:52Speaker 1: has heard me say this a thousand times on this podcast,
- 7:55Speaker 1: who would pay for a regular season NBA ticket? Hey, guys,
- 7:59Speaker 1: let's Alex Ryan, let's go. Let's go to the garden plant,
- 8:03Speaker 1: Let's go to Berkleys, let's go anywhere. You know what.
- 8:07Speaker 1: The nets are playing of Lakers and Luca. Luca doesn't
- 8:11Speaker 1: play rest or whatever, right a pull toenail Lebron doesn't play.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Or Curry comes in the one time of year to
- 8:21Speaker 1: New York, go over to Brooklyn. Uh, Curry's not And
- 8:24Speaker 1: the Warriors are great at this seeing multiple guys in
- 8:29Speaker 1: one game.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Shout out Steve Kirk. Yeah, yeah, yeah, so that a lot.
- 8:38Speaker 2: So it's not that series, is it. I mean that
- 8:40Speaker 2: that series is interesting because the Warriors here they are
- 8:43Speaker 2: and we're all seeing what the impact of missing stuff.
- 8:47Speaker 1: It's all about missing Staff. They would have wanted to
- 8:49Speaker 1: they'd be up. I believe my opinion, they'd be up
- 8:52Speaker 1: in this series. The games have been close, and you
- 8:55Speaker 1: talk if Bronson is the number one clutch player right now,
- 8:59Speaker 1: the number one clutch player over the last fifteen years
- 9:02Speaker 1: is probably Staff.
- 9:04Speaker 3: So far and away, especially with the impact that he's
- 9:06Speaker 3: had in those multiple finals wins throughout his career. But
- 9:11Speaker 3: he also, as it pertains to this series, he's really
- 9:13Speaker 3: showing how much of a non factor that the acquisition
- 9:17Speaker 3: of Jimmy Butler could be. Everybody thought when he was
- 9:20Speaker 3: acquired by the Warriors at the deadline that he was
- 9:23Speaker 3: going to be the potential missing piece to another Warriors
- 9:27Speaker 3: title line, right. And I've had a lot of experience,
- 9:30Speaker 3: you know, watching Jimmy Butler play. One of my closest
- 9:33Speaker 3: friends is a diehard Miami Heat fan, has been rooting
- 9:36Speaker 3: for them pretty much since childhood. So I've been able
- 9:38Speaker 3: to follow the Heat really closely, really followed that stage
- 9:42Speaker 3: of Jimmy Butler's career, and it just it feels very
- 9:47Speaker 3: underwhelming there in Golden State. I mean, you think that
- 9:51Speaker 3: could step up and be that missing piece, especially in
- 9:54Speaker 3: an important playoff series against the Wolves, but this hasn't happened.
- 9:58Speaker 2: One last thing, the Knicks actually inadvertently have one leg
- 10:01Speaker 2: up in this postseason if if the Wolves and UH
- 10:05Speaker 2: and thunder Evol you know, advanced, because then you have
- 10:08Speaker 2: three former Nick Knicks in addition to the Knixt So
- 10:11Speaker 2: I mean, you got a lot of Knicks stuff going on.
- 10:14Speaker 1: The next Edward and Julius Randa is playing differently and
- 10:19Speaker 1: better than he did in other situations like this.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Very true, and he's healthier. I mean over the years
- 10:26Speaker 2: he was not healthy enough with the Knicks. That was it.
- 10:28Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I mean I think those I think it
- 10:30Speaker 1: was more than health. He's just playing smarter and he
- 10:33Speaker 1: has the talent, so I think he's putting you know,
- 10:36Speaker 1: he's putting that together. I don't know if they could
- 10:40Speaker 1: be the Oklahoma City if they if they play them next,
- 10:42Speaker 1: and looks like they will. Uh, Denver doesn't have the
- 10:45Speaker 1: depth that they had two years ago in and won
- 10:47Speaker 1: a championship when I had Bruce Brown and Jeff Green
- 10:49Speaker 1: and guys like that, and and that depth helps you
- 10:54Speaker 1: out a lot.
- 10:57Speaker 2: You know, it seems like it's Jokic or nowhere for
- 11:00Speaker 2: the Nuggets right now so much.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Especially with how Mike Malone on the sidelines too, that
- 11:06Speaker 3: has there's definitely a lot playing into that, for sure.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Well, the thing is, but that is such an unusual
- 11:13Speaker 1: situation where basically the head coach and a general manager
- 11:17Speaker 1: didn't get along and they got rid of both of them.
- 11:21Speaker 3: Yeah, which, I mean, that's something you'd see straight out
- 11:23Speaker 3: of the lou Lamarrello Devils era. I just easily recalled
- 11:27Speaker 3: back to two thousand. They got rid of Robbie Fortorik
- 11:31Speaker 3: with just a couple of games left to go in
- 11:32Speaker 3: the regular season, replacing him with Larry Robinson. And then
- 11:35Speaker 3: what do the Devils do. They go on to win
- 11:37Speaker 3: their second Stanley Cup in franchise history. And I guess
- 11:41Speaker 3: I'm really hoping that they were hoping. Man, after all,
- 11:45Speaker 3: it is the same ownership that.
- 11:47Speaker 1: But I don't think.
- 11:49Speaker 3: One Cup finals.
- 11:50Speaker 1: I don't think Robbie Fork was having issues with with
- 11:54Speaker 1: the Gerald manager Lou Lamarello. Lamarrello say, I have a
- 11:58Speaker 1: very very good team that could win the Cup. It's
- 12:01Speaker 1: not happening with this coach. And he did that. He
- 12:04Speaker 1: did that other years too. He even put himself back
- 12:07Speaker 1: behind the bench a couple of times.
- 12:09Speaker 2: So now that we're.
- 12:12Speaker 3: In the first round, and yeah, they swept the range
- 12:14Speaker 3: and he asked about coaching. He was like, no, not
- 12:17Speaker 3: doing it.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Yeah, one quick second and it'll be it'll be quick.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Since Ri, you're an elder guy like me, what are
- 12:29Speaker 1: you doing with this chan thing? I mean, Lamorello is
- 12:33Speaker 1: still coming in the office, still has input. Is this true?
- 12:37Speaker 1: What's going on?
- 12:38Speaker 3: I mean, it's just you know something I didn't think
- 12:41Speaker 3: this would become three weeks ago, would be a whole
- 12:45Speaker 3: TMZ spectacle of just the paparazzi pretty much following around
- 12:50Speaker 3: Loulamarello at his every move. I mean, we saw just
- 12:53Speaker 3: about a week ago, I believe, video footage of him
- 12:57Speaker 3: and John Collins walking around in Eisenhe Park that I
- 13:01Speaker 3: guess talking over business ops or something like that. And
- 13:04Speaker 3: then there was just a photo taken by a fan
- 13:07Speaker 3: in the Buffalo Airport just a few days ago of
- 13:11Speaker 3: Lou walking around in the terminal. He has been linked
- 13:14Speaker 3: to the Buffalo Sabers, potentially in a GM role, potentially
- 13:17Speaker 3: in a senior advisor capacity. There is interest there. But
- 13:22Speaker 3: what is noteworthy is even though he has technically been
- 13:26Speaker 3: fired in all but name, he's still under contract with
- 13:29Speaker 3: them till June thirtieth, twenty. First came to the team
- 13:32Speaker 3: in twenty eighteen, it was under a four year contract.
- 13:35Speaker 3: Every year since then, he's just gotten one year extension
- 13:38Speaker 3: right starting on July first. So it looks like the
- 13:41Speaker 3: same thing's going to happen here, that he's just going
- 13:43Speaker 3: to serve out the rest of his deal until June
- 13:46Speaker 3: thirtieth of this year. But it's also really hampering that
- 13:50Speaker 3: GM search. I mean, you got a lot of solid
- 13:53Speaker 3: candidates out there. I personally like Matthew darsh from the
- 13:57Speaker 3: Tampa Bay Lightning. I know Mark Bergjebon former Island as well.
- 14:00Speaker 3: He's also been linked to the team, potentially in a
- 14:03Speaker 3: president of Hockey operations role. But there's they don't know if.
- 14:07Speaker 1: It's going to be two jobs or what Lou had
- 14:10Speaker 1: them both. Yeah, who's not splitting anything with anybody else
- 14:16Speaker 1: in hockey. He certainly not, So I don't know. I know, yeah,
- 14:20Speaker 1: you know.
- 14:21Speaker 2: I I think you should go on Pag's perspective also
- 14:23Speaker 2: because I'm sure you're gonna do a draft special with
- 14:25Speaker 2: the number one draft.
- 14:26Speaker 3: I mean, that's not even a question, because there's just
- 14:28Speaker 3: a lot of palpable excitement as to who they're gonna take.
- 14:31Speaker 3: A lot of people, of course saying Matthew Schaeffer just
- 14:34Speaker 3: looking like the consensus number one pick, but you also
- 14:37Speaker 3: got a lot of people suggesting Mesa as the number
- 14:40Speaker 3: one team. Is there James Higgins as well, A lot
- 14:44Speaker 3: of fans really hoping that the Isles could make something work.
- 14:48Speaker 3: Even if they don't want to take him with the
- 14:49Speaker 3: first pick, they do have assets that they can potentially
- 14:53Speaker 3: dangle in a trade. For say, pick number three or
- 14:55Speaker 3: pick number four, where they can go up and grab
- 14:58Speaker 3: the Long Island kid.
- 14:59Speaker 1: A lot of who's the best player. Everything I reached
- 15:03Speaker 1: is that Misa could make the team next year as
- 15:06Speaker 1: an eighteen year old out of I know, I know
- 15:09Speaker 1: Schaefer is seventeen, and I know he's banged up this year,
- 15:12Speaker 1: but I heard he's fantastic. I haven't seen him play
- 15:16Speaker 1: usually by now, I've seen a lot of these juniors play,
- 15:19Speaker 1: and I'm gonna be honest with you, I have not.
- 15:22Speaker 1: I mean, I saw Celebrini and Lane Hudson played live
- 15:25Speaker 1: last year and that that team had so many even
- 15:29Speaker 1: though he win the NCAAA Championship, they had so many
- 15:32Speaker 1: NHL guys and so many it's it's unbelievable that they
- 15:38Speaker 1: haven't they've gone this long without winning the.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Nc Well, I guess so, But we'll have to see
- 15:45Speaker 3: Ryan both. Yeah, we will indeed have to see. One
- 15:48Speaker 3: other point that I'd like to bring up as well.
- 15:50Speaker 3: Bill Torrey's son brought up on Twitter I believe last
- 15:55Speaker 3: week it was, and he was suggesting that if Built
- 16:00Speaker 3: was GM of the Isles today that he most likely
- 16:03Speaker 3: would pick Matthew Schaeffer at one, and that fully aligns
- 16:06Speaker 3: with his belief of building championship teams from the inside out.
- 16:10Speaker 3: We saw it exactly with the eighties dynasty Billie Smith
- 16:13Speaker 3: and net Chico Resh also having that one two goaltender tandem,
- 16:18Speaker 3: and then with the first pick in nineteen seventy three
- 16:23Speaker 3: or seventy four, picking Dennis Potfin first. Overall perfectly aligns
- 16:27Speaker 3: with what Bill Torrey was able to execute in the seventies.
- 16:31Speaker 3: So he very well would go Shaffer here, and it's
- 16:35Speaker 3: what I'm fully behind. If that's the rock.
- 16:36Speaker 2: This kid's twenty three, you think of him falling forever.
- 16:39Speaker 2: This kid's only twenty three, and he knows his hockey stuff,
- 16:42Speaker 2: you know, so that I got a lot of luck.
- 16:44Speaker 1: The thing I like that, I like this kid. His
- 16:46Speaker 1: kid's only twenty three, but I like that he knows
- 16:48Speaker 1: the history of the team that da I like, yeah.
- 16:53Speaker 3: Especially because said Islanders history isn't necessarily that noteworthy apart
- 16:59Speaker 3: from the dynas. I mean, look, I grew up with
- 17:03Speaker 3: a team that couldn't even make it out of the
- 17:05Speaker 3: first round until I was thirteen, when they were able
- 17:10Speaker 3: to finally win a playoff series. In my lifetime. So
- 17:14Speaker 3: there's definitely a lot of context there as far as
- 17:18Speaker 3: you know, growing up, becoming an Islanders fan and justmiring
- 17:22Speaker 3: the history.
- 17:23Speaker 2: Who's your favorite player going up? Oh?
- 17:25Speaker 3: Do I really want to say? It's Tavares?
- 17:28Speaker 2: I mean, why not?
- 17:29Speaker 3: Everybody's favorite at least he was.
- 17:32Speaker 1: I mean, why not? The guy was a great Islander.
- 17:35Speaker 1: And I'll tell you one thing. If Lou was there
- 17:38Speaker 1: five months earlier instead of three weeks before free agency,
- 17:42Speaker 1: still be on the Islanders today.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Yeah, he would have done absolutely anything in everything that
- 17:47Speaker 3: he could have to make that happen. Not even a question.
- 17:50Speaker 1: Or if he had, if he hadn't signed by the
- 17:53Speaker 1: trade deadline, who might betrayed him if he was to
- 17:56Speaker 1: general manages throughout the year.
- 17:58Speaker 3: But oh yeah, because there were solid offers on the
- 18:00Speaker 3: table at that point, Yeah, they very well could have
- 18:03Speaker 3: gotten a hole in that hole in half, potentially in
- 18:07Speaker 3: return for what could have been seen as a rental
- 18:09Speaker 3: by a lot of other teams.
- 18:11Speaker 2: Guys, I'm sorry, go ahead, Alex, No, no, go for it.
- 18:15Speaker 2: And then I'm gonna I want I wanted to. I
- 18:18Speaker 2: thought on Pete Rose.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Okay, okay, guys, how much pressure is on the Toronto
- 18:25Speaker 1: Maple Leaf tonight. How much pressure is on the Toronto
- 18:29Speaker 1: Maple leafs tonight.
- 18:31Speaker 2: Well, we were just on the other day Bbrotsky's back
- 18:33Speaker 2: to Bobrovsky of last year. It looks like the leaves
- 18:36Speaker 2: going up to oh might have been what a fluke?
- 18:40Speaker 2: I don't know exactly. I mean, they it looked like
- 18:42Speaker 2: they were in control.
- 18:43Speaker 1: No, it's not that it's a fluke. Obviously, they have
- 18:46Speaker 1: a They have a tremendous roster. Uh. And I think
- 18:49Speaker 1: this might be even in all their missus, I think
- 18:52Speaker 1: this might be their best roster and their best chance.
- 18:56Speaker 1: But tonight, you know, all the on Toronto Talk radio, Uh,
- 19:02Speaker 1: you know, it's all about are the least gonna do
- 19:05Speaker 1: it again? Are they gonna blow it again?
- 19:07Speaker 3: Uh?
- 19:08Speaker 1: Are they gonna come through tonight? Uh? You know Matthews
- 19:12Speaker 1: and uh and Marnor who And I love Marnor, I
- 19:16Speaker 1: mean I love Marner, I love his all around game.
- 19:18Speaker 1: And Alex Alex knows that because we've talked about them before.
- 19:23Speaker 1: They gotta come through. They gotta go, They gotta come through.
- 19:27Speaker 1: And Matthews and Manor have not had a great series
- 19:29Speaker 1: ever and they work to nothing and the fact that
- 19:33Speaker 1: Florida has two days there was two days between games
- 19:35Speaker 1: instead the one day off. Florida uses the body. They're
- 19:39Speaker 1: more physical. I think that plays in Florida's advantage. But
- 19:43Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to Tonight's game that it's gonna be
- 19:46Speaker 1: really interesting and if they.
- 19:50Speaker 2: A lot, you know, tell me, well you both can
- 19:55Speaker 2: tell me. Has has Marsham played a role in this
- 19:58Speaker 2: whole series or what's been going on?
- 19:59Speaker 1: Yeah? He did, I mean he he scored the game
- 20:01Speaker 1: winning goal in overtime the other night. So but again,
- 20:08Speaker 1: they are so mentally tough, the Florida Panthers, and uh
- 20:16Speaker 1: and you know, hey, any team that has Matthew could
- 20:18Speaker 1: chuck him on him and I don't think you, I
- 20:19Speaker 1: don't believe he's one. He did. Matthew could chuck and
- 20:23Speaker 1: play for for my team any day of the week.
- 20:27Speaker 1: So absolutely, Yeah, yeah, he's one of those guys.
- 20:31Speaker 2: Well it'll be it'll be a fun one. And you know,
- 20:33Speaker 2: the other one I'm keeping eye on because I I
- 20:35Speaker 2: really want Edmonton versus Toronto. I've I've won the McDavid
- 20:40Speaker 2: Matthews matchup forever and we still might get it, but
- 20:43Speaker 2: this could be the year it should in any of
- 20:46Speaker 2: the year. This is gonna be the year it could happen.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Well, the other night, after after Vegas cut lead to
- 20:53Speaker 1: two to one in games on that last second goal. Uh,
- 20:57Speaker 1: they they were dominated from the most bought by Edmonton
- 21:00Speaker 1: the other night. And I was surprised because if any
- 21:04Speaker 1: team is really built to win the Cup and has
- 21:06Speaker 1: the depth to win the Cup, it's Vegas. And I mean,
- 21:12Speaker 1: I think there's a good chance Edminton calls him out tonight.
- 21:15Speaker 1: We can't.
- 21:16Speaker 2: We can't in hockey talk without talking about the man
- 21:18Speaker 2: who got the record. And now everybody in DC is like,
- 21:21Speaker 2: where's Alex Ovechkin, And you know, it is weird that
- 21:25Speaker 2: they're down three to one. I thought they'd have a
- 21:27Speaker 2: better command of the series.
- 21:28Speaker 1: Well, I think we said last week there's wasn't gonna
- 21:33Speaker 1: be a lot of goals scored in the series. And
- 21:36Speaker 1: Tampa smothers you. And Tampa has a different type of Carolina.
- 21:40Speaker 1: That's Carolina. They smother you. And they have a different
- 21:46Speaker 1: type of puck possession. The Detroit Red Wings when they
- 21:49Speaker 1: were winning their Cups and contending for Cups, they had
- 21:52Speaker 1: puck possession. Carolina does it differently. They just get the puck,
- 21:57Speaker 1: get into the get into the other team zone and
- 22:00Speaker 1: just fire a shot attempt.
- 22:02Speaker 2: While we wait for Luna rejoin us here. Now I'm
- 22:05Speaker 2: back in in studio, see with Ryan Pagando, I, Billa
- 22:07Speaker 2: GRONLTNT back in the studios.
- 22:10Speaker 3: They're almost you know, Liam mceugh and this is nasty. Uh,
- 22:15Speaker 3: just chopping it up in the TNT studio.
- 22:17Speaker 2: We lost you there for a little for a minute, Loocier.
- 22:19Speaker 2: We went back to the studio for a second, but
- 22:21Speaker 2: you were.
- 22:21Speaker 1: Saying, what was I where I where did I land
- 22:24Speaker 1: up at?
- 22:25Speaker 2: About how they were just scoring goals Like the Red
- 22:27Speaker 2: Wings of the play.
- 22:28Speaker 1: The puck possession. You know, Carolina plays a different type
- 22:31Speaker 1: of puck possession game. They get the puck, they come
- 22:34Speaker 1: into the offensive zone and they take the first halfway
- 22:38Speaker 1: decent shot at the next at the neck. Their shot
- 22:42Speaker 1: attempts per game compared to the opposition is five to
- 22:45Speaker 1: once on a lot of nights. They don't give you
- 22:49Speaker 1: a lot of space. Defensively, they're tenacious and if they
- 22:52Speaker 1: get goaltending, they got a shot. I mean last year
- 22:57Speaker 1: against the Rangers they did not get the goaltending.
- 23:02Speaker 2: But I was gonna say this. I feel like this
- 23:04Speaker 2: has been saving Brinda Moore's job because I'm sure Carolina
- 23:07Speaker 2: fans are just tired of them getting to like a
- 23:09Speaker 2: first or second round then being bound. So this might
- 23:11Speaker 2: be saving his job a little bit. What do you think,
- 23:13Speaker 2: I'll go to Ryan while we went to the vote.
- 23:15Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean Carolina have He hasn't even reached the
- 23:19Speaker 3: conference finals since twenty nineteen, so there's certainly a lot
- 23:22Speaker 3: more hunger in Kanes fan's bellies right now to just
- 23:26Speaker 3: make it to the Cup finals. Well, you know I
- 23:28Speaker 3: was asking, I was asking Ryan and you is this
- 23:30Speaker 3: going to save Brenda Moore's job?
- 23:32Speaker 2: I feel like Hurricane fans are just tired of being
- 23:34Speaker 2: ousted in the first or second round. As the last
- 23:36Speaker 2: few years of indicated.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Brenda Moore's job is safe. If Brindamore leave Carolina, it's
- 23:43Speaker 1: because he's gonna It'll be his decision. I don't think
- 23:46Speaker 1: it's from management's decision. He just signed a new deal,
- 23:50Speaker 1: you know, last year, So if he weren't going to leave,
- 23:53Speaker 1: who would have been at the end of at the
- 23:55Speaker 1: end of last year.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Being of coaching Rick Tuckett to the Flyers. Now, I
- 24:01Speaker 2: remember when talking played for the Flyers, so this is
- 24:03Speaker 2: kind of an interesting homecoming for him.
- 24:05Speaker 1: So so that's official.
- 24:07Speaker 3: It looks like it's official, right, Yeah, official today, Rick Okay,
- 24:12Speaker 3: I certainly gonna be an interesting one.
- 24:16Speaker 2: I remember him, I remember him with the Flyers. I
- 24:18Speaker 2: remember that that era vividly.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Actually, Oh, he was an outstanding player, no question about that.
- 24:24Speaker 1: And he he was doing a good job in Vancouver.
- 24:26Speaker 1: And then that that locker room nonsense between J. T.
- 24:30Speaker 1: Miller and Elias Petterson just basically basically room the season
- 24:34Speaker 1: for them, all.
- 24:36Speaker 2: Right, staying in Philly because I did not know until
- 24:40Speaker 2: you know, you see highlights, Rose was a Philly But
- 24:43Speaker 2: Pete Rose uh reinstated by Major League Baseball. Is this
- 24:48Speaker 2: an automatic into the Hall of Fame or it's just
- 24:50Speaker 2: gonna be a fight now to see if he gets
- 24:52Speaker 2: into the Hall of Fame.
- 24:53Speaker 1: I don't think it's so automatic. And uh, I thought
- 24:59Speaker 1: the guy had paid his debt to society, to Baseball society.
- 25:02Speaker 1: I mean this was he got a suspended in nineteen
- 25:07Speaker 1: eighty nine. They could have done it while he was
- 25:09Speaker 1: still alive. I mean, even if they did it in
- 25:13Speaker 1: twenty fifteen and twenty ten, I mean Okay, yeah, he
- 25:19Speaker 1: paid it. He paid his debt. You talked about one
- 25:21Speaker 1: of them, and I know it's two separate issues, but
- 25:24Speaker 1: this guy was one of the greatest players of all time,
- 25:27Speaker 1: and he wasn't eligibly voted on. But guys who did
- 25:31Speaker 1: steroids like Bonds and Clemens and Sosa and a Rod.
- 25:37Speaker 1: A Rod got suspended for a year, and now he's
- 25:40Speaker 1: mister Baseball. He's everywhere. He's on Fox, he's on you know,
- 25:44Speaker 1: most people don't even know that.
- 25:46Speaker 4: He was suspended for a year, but they were all
- 25:50Speaker 4: eligible to be voting on for the Hall of Fame,
- 25:53Speaker 4: and Pete Rose was one of seventeen who wasn't eligibly.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Vote for the Hall of Fame. He's a guy who
- 26:00Speaker 1: three time batting champion, played on one of the greatest
- 26:03Speaker 1: teams in baseball history, the seventy five and Sex Rids,
- 26:07Speaker 1: played on the nineteen eighty Phillies, the World Series champion
- 26:12Speaker 1: MVP in sixty in sixty three seventy three NL MVP
- 26:18Speaker 1: played the league, hit seven times, played mudle positions, and everybody,
- 26:24Speaker 1: if everybody in sports, especially in the NBA, played as
- 26:28Speaker 1: hard as Pete Rose. We have no problems today in
- 26:33Speaker 1: the game. As far as on field performance, you both
- 26:37Speaker 1: does it.
- 26:37Speaker 2: I think you know my displeasure when I first saw
- 26:39Speaker 2: it when the Reds became the first team to do
- 26:42Speaker 2: a sports book of any kind in their stadium. After
- 26:46Speaker 2: all the crap Pete Rose got, that's when they should
- 26:49Speaker 2: have put him in the Hall of Fame and unbanned them. Okay,
- 26:52Speaker 2: if you're gonna go along with the whole betting thing,
- 26:54Speaker 2: but then say, well, Pete Rose did this. It's very
- 26:57Speaker 2: hypocritical and as you know, I'm tired of hipocracy with them.
- 27:00Speaker 3: It's ver hard cake and eat it too.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Right, Well, again, it's not what Ryan just said. You
- 27:05Speaker 1: can't have your cake and eat it too. If you
- 27:07Speaker 1: go to the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, Pete
- 27:10Speaker 1: Rose is everywhere in the Cooperstown.
- 27:11Speaker 3: Hall of Fame.
- 27:13Speaker 1: There I go, just the plaque, yeah, you know, without
- 27:17Speaker 1: the plaque.
- 27:19Speaker 3: You know, it's it's it's it's.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Kind of disgusting.
- 27:21Speaker 2: Now I gotta pull up the gold the Jim Gray
- 27:24Speaker 2: cut where he's at the All Star Game with Pete Rose,
- 27:26Speaker 2: and it's just a classic interaction with him because he's
- 27:29Speaker 2: talking to the Hall of Fame, he's like, I'm trying
- 27:31Speaker 2: to be here doing a nice thing, but and then
- 27:33Speaker 2: you're breaking this up with the eve of the interaction, right, Yeah.
- 27:35Speaker 3: I do recall that well, mostly for the fact that
- 27:40Speaker 3: Chad Curtis, who hit the walk off home running Game
- 27:43Speaker 3: three of the ninety nine World Series back when NBC
- 27:46Speaker 3: was covering baseball, Jim Gray was the field reporter assigned
- 27:50Speaker 3: for that whole series and Chad I recall him just,
- 27:55Speaker 3: you know, politely telling Jim Gray, Hey, I'm not going
- 27:58Speaker 3: to do an interview with you because of how you
- 27:59Speaker 3: treat it Pete Rose. So that was pretty memorable, very
- 28:05Speaker 3: reasons that Jim Gray would have hoped, you know, given
- 28:08Speaker 3: how much trust he's built up with some of the
- 28:11Speaker 3: best athletes we have ever seen, and he does guys
- 28:13Speaker 3: like Kobe Jordan, Tiger, Tom Brady, Tom Brady you could, yeah,
- 28:18Speaker 3: Tom Brady literally has a podcast with Jim Gracision. They're
- 28:24Speaker 3: gonna have some form of a relationship with Jim Gray,
- 28:27Speaker 3: somebody who they actually trust in the media.
- 28:29Speaker 1: There you go.
- 28:30Speaker 2: So that was that was my little thought when when
- 28:32Speaker 2: they reinstated him. So we'll see and Shoeless Joe's an
- 28:35Speaker 2: interesting one because now that team literally through the World Series.
- 28:40Speaker 2: But he could be eligible Hall of Famer. He might
- 28:42Speaker 2: be Hall of Famer at this point too.
- 28:44Speaker 1: Well on failed abilities were off the charts, and uh
- 28:50Speaker 1: he was he was basically illiterate and uh he probably
- 28:55Speaker 1: had couldn't read very well. He bat it that World
- 29:00Speaker 1: Series that he apparently was part of the throwing he
- 29:04Speaker 1: bat three seventy five. Again, the guy's been being an elgible. Guys,
- 29:11Speaker 1: he's been eligible for a hundred and three years, and
- 29:16Speaker 1: he spent every year of his life until he died,
- 29:19Speaker 1: which I think was in the early fifties, trying to
- 29:21Speaker 1: clear his name. Yep, he should be in the Hall
- 29:25Speaker 1: of Fame. Family should should should be joy have the
- 29:29Speaker 1: joy of him being in the Hall of Fame.
- 29:31Speaker 2: We have an American pope was a White Sox fan
- 29:33Speaker 2: and now White Sox legend slash Black Sock legend.
- 29:36Speaker 1: Is is be listed?
- 29:39Speaker 3: Is there a coincidence there?
- 29:40Speaker 2: I don't think so, especially because the poplio was in
- 29:43Speaker 2: the vaultart twenty years ago for the White Sox.
- 29:46Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it's amazing we won. It's amazing that fox
- 29:51Speaker 1: in that crowd shot found him and they didn't know
- 29:55Speaker 1: who he was. So it's amazing that average fan. Yeah,
- 29:59Speaker 1: that's unbelievable. From that game one, right, uh, World Series
- 30:05Speaker 1: against US in which the White Sox swept.
- 30:09Speaker 2: With I know Ozgan's gonna get a position in the
- 30:14Speaker 2: Vatican now, I think.
- 30:15Speaker 3: Because you know, maybe the Pope helping out Bobby Jenks,
- 30:19Speaker 3: because I know he's been dealing with some health issues.
- 30:23Speaker 3: I know he's he's been alterning off a lot of
- 30:25Speaker 3: his memorabilia. Oh really, I didn't treatments. He's really been
- 30:30Speaker 3: going through a lot, and I mean I can just
- 30:32Speaker 3: only hope and pray that in the end he's all right.
- 30:35Speaker 3: But you know what, maybe the blessings of the new Pope,
- 30:38Speaker 3: Pope Leo, can you know, be on his side here
- 30:42Speaker 3: as he continues this ongoing battle.
- 30:44Speaker 2: All Right, I'd be remiss if I didn't ask this question,
- 30:47Speaker 2: Lou because it's the Subway series. Because I think the
- 30:51Speaker 2: series against the Indiana would start Saturday or would start
- 30:54Speaker 2: next week. I think it will be over the weekend.
- 30:56Speaker 3: Right, it might be over the weekend, depends what happens
- 31:00Speaker 3: either way.
- 31:02Speaker 1: Tonight it'll be either Saturday night, probably on ABC at
- 31:05Speaker 1: eight o'clock or Sunday afternoon, like at three thirty.
- 31:09Speaker 2: That's me, is the meme gonna happen? I we have
- 31:13Speaker 2: the National Guard called him because of the subway series,
- 31:15Speaker 2: Soda Verse Judge, and then we got you know, we
- 31:19Speaker 2: got the next I mean, it's gonna be a crazy
- 31:21Speaker 2: weekend here in New York.
- 31:22Speaker 1: It is, it isn't. And the metsa playing very well,
- 31:27Speaker 1: so we'll see.
- 31:30Speaker 2: They're playing off the charts right now. The Yankees obviously
- 31:33Speaker 2: presos Waldo Cabrera, who's been on this podcast before and
- 31:37Speaker 2: also just an all around great guy. And I mean
- 31:42Speaker 2: my thought was, I thought everybody was using their picture
- 31:44Speaker 2: with him as like a look at me, like clout,
- 31:47Speaker 2: I just want to make sure the guy was healthy
- 31:49Speaker 2: before I dropped any photo with him, because like that's
- 31:51Speaker 2: the first and foremost thing to think about.
- 31:53Speaker 1: Of course.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean that's understandable because I mean what a
- 31:55Speaker 3: lot of people tend to forget is, you know, these
- 31:58Speaker 3: guys are human too, and I mean sometimes that human
- 32:01Speaker 3: aspect is just lost in the translation.
- 32:04Speaker 1: Yeah, and a fraction that they're human, we forget that
- 32:08Speaker 1: they have.
- 32:08Speaker 2: Fra fraction ankle is pretty bad.
- 32:11Speaker 1: I mean that's look look at look at Jordan Travis
- 32:14Speaker 1: for the Jets broke you and he had that horrific
- 32:18Speaker 1: broken ankle and broke his tibia. Was one of the
- 32:22Speaker 1: you know, I think it was a top five finalists
- 32:25Speaker 1: in the Heisman Trophy. The Jets drafted them, and he's
- 32:28Speaker 1: he never he never got, he never healed, and last week,
- 32:32Speaker 1: at the age of twenty three, says that's it. I'm done.
- 32:34Speaker 1: I can't play football. So man, good luck Towas Waldough.
- 32:42Speaker 2: Yeah, no, that's that's that's gonna be a long recovery time.
- 32:44Speaker 2: We pray for him to get back out there. All right.
- 32:48Speaker 2: You mentioned the Mets run a role. They've been winning
- 32:50Speaker 2: series NonStop, so it's been fun to watch, right, And
- 32:53Speaker 2: I guess more so the pitching has been really the
- 32:55Speaker 2: headline for this team.
- 32:57Speaker 1: Yeah. I you know, like when I first heard this
- 32:59Speaker 1: Nets pitching lab, I said, you know what that was
- 33:03Speaker 1: this all about? But now that I've seen guys who
- 33:07Speaker 1: basically were batting practice pitchers like like Griffin Chant Canning
- 33:12Speaker 1: and guys like that, uh, and what they did last
- 33:15Speaker 1: year and had a kind of turning homes into a starter,
- 33:21Speaker 1: I guess maybe it's pitching. This Met's pitching lab might
- 33:24Speaker 1: have some legitimamy, legitimacy to it. Well, I mean, I'm
- 33:27Speaker 1: obviously I'm happy about that. You just gotta keep winning
- 33:30Speaker 1: two out of three, that's what you gotta do.
- 33:33Speaker 2: And and Hefner is really Jeremy Hefferner has turned in
- 33:37Speaker 2: quite a conversion with Holmes from reliever to start. Although
- 33:41Speaker 2: I guess what Pittsburgh he was that started to begin with.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Was yeah, he started as a starting pitcher. Yeah, But
- 33:49Speaker 3: so taking into account the Pirates approach at that point,
- 33:52Speaker 3: their one size fits all approach to pitching under Ray
- 33:55Speaker 3: series at that point, you know, it just doesn't mesh
- 33:58Speaker 3: well for every kind of a pitcher. And that's really
- 34:01Speaker 3: what helped accelerate those downfall of those twenty ten bucks,
- 34:07Speaker 3: that one size fits all pitching approach, because you know,
- 34:11Speaker 3: even looking at their prospects from that time, Tyler Glass,
- 34:13Speaker 3: now he was never gonna pan out there, ineffective at
- 34:17Speaker 3: best with the Pirates, turned into a cy young candidate
- 34:20Speaker 3: with the U r YE. Look at him now with
- 34:22Speaker 3: the Dodgers, and he's still elite as ever. Even Shane Baz,
- 34:26Speaker 3: who was a top A one hundred prospect at one point,
- 34:29Speaker 3: certainly wasn't gonna pan out of Pittsburgh, and the same
- 34:32Speaker 3: could be said for Clay Holmes. Just looked like another
- 34:35Speaker 3: Jason Isringhouse in a failed starter turned elite reliever, except
- 34:40Speaker 3: unlike with is ring House, and you got Clay Holmes
- 34:42Speaker 3: coming back as a starting picture. And I know a
- 34:44Speaker 3: lot of people, myself included, were very skeptical about it,
- 34:47Speaker 3: but it's given a lot of results. Here a good results, all.
- 34:51Speaker 2: Right, before we go back to the production lab of
- 34:54Speaker 2: our own here, uh speaking, staying on, staying on baseball
- 34:58Speaker 2: ro fast. Two managers in the least three weeks time
- 35:01Speaker 2: have been fired. I mean, this is at least these
- 35:04Speaker 2: teams are showing their fans they give a crud. But
- 35:08Speaker 2: are we gonna see more of this trend where more
- 35:10Speaker 2: in season firing has happened before the deadline?
- 35:12Speaker 1: Well, this is one I'm looking at me Brandon High,
- 35:16Speaker 1: he's got to be it's got to be brand And
- 35:17Speaker 1: I of the Orioles, they I mean they're ninth, they're
- 35:22Speaker 1: not right now, they're nine games under. Uh they look lifeless.
- 35:27Speaker 1: And they had all these great young players. I don't
- 35:30Speaker 1: know if they've hit uh, you know, hit their they
- 35:33Speaker 1: haven't hit their ceiling. I hit their plateau and if
- 35:36Speaker 1: they're way above, they've got to be way above the
- 35:37Speaker 1: ceiling that they're at now. So I would I would
- 35:40Speaker 1: look at Brandon.
- 35:41Speaker 2: One hundred plus win team just a few years ago,
- 35:45Speaker 2: and granted they got bounced out by the Texas Rangers,
- 35:48Speaker 2: wh would win the World Series that year, But come on,
- 35:51Speaker 2: this is this is pretty bad and you'd think, I
- 35:54Speaker 2: guess you'd think the front office is evaluating the postseason
- 35:57Speaker 2: performances and this now, is that what you're thinking?
- 36:00Speaker 1: Well right now that they gotta they gotta evaluate what's
- 36:03Speaker 1: happening here in the middle of May, and the team
- 36:06Speaker 1: looks lifeless. I don't like that the management didn't try
- 36:12Speaker 1: to resign Burns.
- 36:14Speaker 3: That's yeah, yeah, really cheaped out.
- 36:16Speaker 1: Yeah, they keep Outdows and they have a window of
- 36:20Speaker 1: opportunity because I know Alex probably gets sick of me
- 36:23Speaker 1: saying it. The American League isn't that good in anything?
- 36:28Speaker 2: Right Yeah, right now, the AL the Yanks are only
- 36:30Speaker 2: two games up in the East. And I know it's early,
- 36:32Speaker 2: it's May, but I'll tell you, as we've all thought,
- 36:35Speaker 2: and we've all said, these games against the AL or
- 36:41Speaker 2: the Indivision ravel matter because there's only twelve of them.
- 36:44Speaker 2: Now there used to be nineteen where you maybe could
- 36:46Speaker 2: afford a series loss in the middle of April. You
- 36:49Speaker 2: can't afford a series loss. You can't afford what the
- 36:51Speaker 2: Mets did against the Nationals, as you pointed out a
- 36:53Speaker 2: couple of weeks ago, in the middle of April, because
- 36:56Speaker 2: it could bite you in the accident September.
- 36:58Speaker 1: That's absolutely yes.
- 37:00Speaker 2: Well, and the Oreos have lost ground, and maybe it's
- 37:04Speaker 2: all it's only May, but losing ground in the Al East,
- 37:07Speaker 2: I don't care if it's a weaker division or not.
- 37:09Speaker 2: It's going to hurt you in the long run, even
- 37:11Speaker 2: to make that seventh spot at this point one hundred percent.
- 37:14Speaker 1: Look, they're fifteen and twenty four. And if the American
- 37:17Speaker 1: League is week as we say as we think it is,
- 37:19Speaker 1: and we it is, they're fifteen and twenty four. I mean,
- 37:23Speaker 1: I think I lost two at three of the Angels
- 37:25Speaker 1: this past weekend.
- 37:27Speaker 2: You're five hundred and in a playoff position right now.
- 37:30Speaker 2: I'm not mistaken.
- 37:31Speaker 1: Well, we knew they were going to bounce back from
- 37:32Speaker 1: Owen seven or eight with that start. We knew they
- 37:35Speaker 1: were going to bounce back. But I think he is
- 37:38Speaker 1: doing a rehab now down in the minors, He'll be back,
- 37:43Speaker 1: you know, oreole, excuse me. The Braves are still very
- 37:47Speaker 1: much alive.
- 37:49Speaker 2: But even that's a situation I'm looking at because Snicker
- 37:52Speaker 2: seems to have lost the clubhouse, the whole Acunya Twitter drama,
- 37:56Speaker 2: and then this, you know, you got to hand, you
- 37:58Speaker 2: gotta handle that.
- 37:59Speaker 1: He could I think that this might be snekery. Might
- 38:04Speaker 1: they said this before this year. He might retire at
- 38:07Speaker 1: the end of this year. He's been there a long time.
- 38:10Speaker 1: Who knows. The Braves are still in it. They're not
- 38:14Speaker 1: out of by any any Remember on June first last year,
- 38:18Speaker 1: the Mets are twelve games in the five hundred and
- 38:20Speaker 1: then played twenty eight games over the rest of the way,
- 38:24Speaker 1: So well, you know exactly.
- 38:26Speaker 3: I mean, you can never count any of these NLS
- 38:28Speaker 3: teams out. And you even go back to the national
- 38:31Speaker 3: twenty nineteen Nationals starting at thirty one, going on to
- 38:35Speaker 3: be the heavily favored Houston Astros in Game seven of
- 38:38Speaker 3: the twenty nineteen World Series. Of course, even the twenty
- 38:41Speaker 3: twenty one Braves with losing pretty much most of their
- 38:45Speaker 3: outfield due to injuries, and then the front office reshaping
- 38:48Speaker 3: it in a matter of ten minutes to the world.
- 38:54Speaker 1: Absolutely two great examples Ryana.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Just this past year with the Met so I mean
- 39:00Speaker 3: it's been done before. There's been a lot of precedent,
- 39:03Speaker 3: especially in the NL East. And you know that's why,
- 39:06Speaker 3: even as a lot of Mets fans were laughing at
- 39:09Speaker 3: the Braves zero to seven start, I knew full well.
- 39:12Speaker 3: You know, you can't really count these Braves out yet.
- 39:14Speaker 3: They still have the championship pedigree from just four years ago,
- 39:20Speaker 3: and they could still very well make a deep run
- 39:23Speaker 3: depending on the circumstances here. I mean, we'll see how
- 39:25Speaker 3: that plays out in October. But you know you can't
- 39:28Speaker 3: count out the Braves just yet.
- 39:30Speaker 2: While we're on baseball, I gotta give a shout out
- 39:32Speaker 2: because just passed a little while ago. I don't know
- 39:33Speaker 2: why did they mention this yet, but shout out to
- 39:36Speaker 2: the Ducks for celebrating twenty five years in Long Island.
- 39:39Speaker 2: Buddy Harrison started that whole thing and they've been carrying
- 39:42Speaker 2: it on there. They produce winners out there. I mentioned
- 39:45Speaker 2: as Seth Beard just picked up by the Phillies. I
- 39:47Speaker 2: love these things. That's a pipeline for major leaguers, your
- 39:50Speaker 2: minor leaguers go back to the mid league.
- 39:52Speaker 1: Happy anniversary to the Long Island Ducks. And it does
- 39:57Speaker 1: give the even these independent leagues give guys a second
- 40:02Speaker 1: and third chance to get back to the major leagues.
- 40:05Speaker 1: I mean, these non affiliated leagues have really been a
- 40:09Speaker 1: godsend to those to those players who were who were
- 40:13Speaker 1: down and out.
- 40:14Speaker 2: And you know what I wish. I wish when people
- 40:16Speaker 2: would outlets reported that someone signed someone, just tell them
- 40:20Speaker 2: where they signed them from. Give them credit where credits to.
- 40:22Speaker 2: I saw this morning Seth Beer signed with the Phillies.
- 40:25Speaker 2: They didn't say with from whom. I wish they would
- 40:28Speaker 2: give these teams credit.
- 40:30Speaker 3: You know, I agree, all right, Yeah, it can't be
- 40:34Speaker 3: too hard to do either. I mean, just in the
- 40:36Speaker 3: past few years alone, the amount of veterans that eventually
- 40:39Speaker 3: got picked up by big league teams looking to give
- 40:42Speaker 3: them a second or third chance was just absolutely crazy.
- 40:45Speaker 3: I still remember in my hosture days called calling Long
- 40:48Speaker 3: Island Ducks baseball games involving Daniel Murphy Jackie Bradley Junior,
- 40:53Speaker 3: who got signed to minor league contracts after their stints
- 40:58Speaker 3: with the Ducks. Murphy of course being picked up by
- 40:59Speaker 3: the Angels and playing for their Triple A affiliate. He
- 41:04Speaker 3: didn't make the Big league's roster, of course, he retired
- 41:07Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 41:09Speaker 2: Play there a little bit.
- 41:10Speaker 3: Yeah, Ruben Tahata as well another.
- 41:12Speaker 2: And some of these guys. That swing is still good
- 41:15Speaker 2: as ever, even as they're getting a little older, and
- 41:17Speaker 2: they can just pop one over the leftfield fence. It's
- 41:19Speaker 2: awesome to watch when these guys, as they are getting older,
- 41:22Speaker 2: still can hit. Lou Ford, who's now managing the Ducks,
- 41:25Speaker 2: by the way, at forty seven years old, became one
- 41:28Speaker 2: of the oldest Independent leaguers. Day a home run. Okay,
- 41:32Speaker 2: so it does happen, and.
- 41:33Speaker 3: The Atlantic League hits record too.
- 41:35Speaker 2: There you go. So hopefully we have him on. Maybe
- 41:37Speaker 2: I'll reach out to the Ducks for us, Lewie and
- 41:39Speaker 2: get them on. That'd be awesome.
- 41:41Speaker 1: Is Chris King.
- 41:42Speaker 5: Chris King is still a play by play guy, right, Yeah,
- 41:45Speaker 5: still doing a play by play listening to a lot
- 41:48Speaker 5: of his calls, especially in the beginning of this Duck season,
- 41:51Speaker 5: which has has been awesome to hear.
- 41:53Speaker 3: Is a former colleague of kingers.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, that's a shame. What what the Islanders did to
- 41:59Speaker 1: Chris King. And the great picture.
- 42:01Speaker 2: But all right, Lou, well, guess what. I just posted
- 42:04Speaker 2: a picture outside the garden. That means I'm gonna get
- 42:06Speaker 2: in eventually. Right this postseason, we'll have to see if
- 42:08Speaker 2: one leg up Alex is gonna have one leg up
- 42:10Speaker 2: in the garden.
- 42:10Speaker 1: I wanted, so, Alex, this is what you should do
- 42:13Speaker 1: to put together go fund me page, concuter.
- 42:20Speaker 2: My Venmo, you know.
- 42:21Speaker 1: So that's it.
- 42:22Speaker 2: We'll see what happens, Lou Ryan Picano Pag's perspective, What
- 42:26Speaker 2: an awesome collaboration today.
- 42:29Speaker 1: Great being with you guys.
- 42:30Speaker 3: You know that, all right, we likewise, likewise, Mets have
- 42:35Speaker 3: their pitching lab.
- 42:36Speaker 2: Yanks guy get a series today, Nixon five. We gotta
- 42:39Speaker 2: go back to production, so I'll talk to you soon,
- 42:40Speaker 2: Louis on Tormino's take, Have a successful day,
