Transcript
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar's fans welcome in to do vault daily presented by Jinjag.com.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Aluga thanks so much for being here Tuesday, August 14th, you're Jacksonville Jaguar as they've been busy and not only on the field they're foreign to on the season, obviously coming off a loss, everybody's all doom and gloop, but they're foreign to on the season there and a really good position to keep competing.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: They got good coaching on both sides, they have a lot of talent on both sides of the football.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think the Jaguars are done acquiring talent even after trading for Greg News some last week as well as getting that pick swap.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: That's a big pick swap that kind of a lot of people sweep under the rug.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: But that's going to be a late seventh round picking all likelihood with the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: pick going over to the Browns and a early six round pick with the Jets pick from the Browns going to the Jaguars, right?
- 0:55[SPEAKER_00]: That's a lot of picks.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, in between the beginning of the six round and end of the seventh round.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: So that's almost like a late fifth versus a late seventh,
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: But James Gladstone's been busy, not only making trades, you know, all year ever since he got here, adding players, subtracting, etc., he's been moving some cap space around, moving some money around a little bit here recently, according to SpotRax.
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: So we're going to dive into that, are the Jack Wars on the verge of making a blockbuster deal?
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know, but they are certainly at the very least making preparations for adding
- 1:40[SPEAKER_00]: salary cap to the cap, right, for adding more money to the cap, they're making preparations for potentially needing to have more cap space.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: Are they going to make a big trade?
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe looks like they're preparing to do that.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_00]: Where there's smoke there's fire and there's a lot
- 2:04[SPEAKER_00]: coming out of the Miller Electric Center.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they're actually in London right now, getting ready to take on the Rams.
- 2:08[SPEAKER_00]: Again, they're foreign to their in a good spot.
- 2:10[SPEAKER_00]: And I don't think that there's kind of this sentiment that they have to make a trade to be competitive.
- 2:18[SPEAKER_00]: I think that they have to make a trade, or they don't even have to.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_00]: in 2025, probably does include a trade for somebody who can make more of an impact on the defensive front.
- 2:38[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's fair.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: Shoot, I mean, I could see a trade for a safety too, I mean, where everybody's talking about, you know, rapture in Garafolo and some others is the defensive front.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_00]: They're saying the jag wars might not be done making trades.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: They're saying the jag wars are potentially interested in adding to the defensive room.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_00]: And so again, spot rack.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_00]: a couple of days ago, Saturday, I believe it was reported at a couple of different money or cap saving moves and then another one just happened earlier this morning.
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: So we're gonna dive into that.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: Again, really appreciate y'all being here.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_00]: So the Jag war is on Saturday.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Saturday, converted $5.3 million of Walker Little's base salary into signing bonus, adding two void years, creating $4.2 million of cap space.
- 3:35[SPEAKER_00]: That ended up itself, you could have said, well, they're up against it, and they want to create more room after the Tyson Campbell and Greg Newsom stuff, that cost them some dead cap, so they just want to create more room.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_00]: But no, they were not done.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar is also converted $2.4 million of Diami Brown's base salary into signing bonus.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_00]: Adding four void years creating $1.9 million of capsules.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_00]: You're like, geez, look at all these void years.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_00]: These are void years that are going to be like basically almost negligible, especially when you consider.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_00]: the rising cap.
- 4:08[SPEAKER_00]: The void years are going to be so small in terms of the actual number attached to that void year.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: And a void year is literally just a year that you're paying on that contract after the contract is over.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: So again, adding
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: two void years, creating $4.2 million of cap space, you're probably talking about, during one of those void years paying like $2 million against the cap and the second one same thing.
- 4:36[SPEAKER_00]: So as their cap rises, these numbers are really negligible.
- 4:42[SPEAKER_00]: Especially when you talk about converting deami brown, $2.4 million of deami browns based salary and assigning bonus, adding four void years,
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: Adding four of wood years on that amount of money, again, is basically nothing.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: And then an even bigger one, the Jaguars today, according to SpotRack, converted $8.8 million of quarterback Greg Newsom's salary into signing bonus, adding four of wood years, creating $7 million of capfaces, again, not going to be these huge wood year capfaces, but it is
- 5:22[SPEAKER_00]: around $12 million of room to work with as they head towards that 114 trade deadline.
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: So again, you're hearing multiple reports about the jackwares potentially being interested in trading.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: You're seeing them creating cap space.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: And one thing to keep in mind too is let's say they want to trade for X-player who just
- 5:48[SPEAKER_00]: in 2025, they only have $12 million in capsize, how can they do that?
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: They can also take that player and create cap space by adding void years and converting salary into assigning bonus.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_00]: So they can continue to do this without having major cap ramifications long term because these little void years are going to be so negligible and small in all likelihood.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: So, it, it's not a big deal.
- 6:13[SPEAKER_00]: really does appear that James Gladstone is gearing up for something big.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: We looked yesterday at a lot of the defensive tackle trades potentially that they could make and there's some big name trades they could try to make some big splashes.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: I mean the Titans obviously just fired their head coach and Bill Callahan is going along with his son who knows what they want to do with Jeffrey Simmons.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_00]: I mean I would be
- 6:38[SPEAKER_00]: And yeah, I'm the titans, there's no way I'm training to every sentence of the Jaguars.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: But who knows, there's the jets who are oh and six, I think, when it Williams is an expensive player, maybe they want to hit a hard reset, a software set, whatever, maybe I don't know.
- 6:56[SPEAKER_00]: But then you've also got other teams like the bears who thriller last night, got the job done at the end.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_00]: They've got Gervon Dexter who, you know, Dilo talked about and he's a really good young past rusher.
- 7:12[SPEAKER_00]: There's some other guys out there.
- 7:14[SPEAKER_00]: When I y'all mentioned Malik Collins and he certainly could fit the bill as a past rush interior past rush specialist for the Jack Wars, I don't know what they're going to do.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_00]: I really don't.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: And everybody's just kind of saying it's going to be defensive tackle or some form of defensive line.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: It's possible they could
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: swing multiple trades.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_00]: It's possible they could be looking elsewhere.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, who knows at this point?
- 7:43[SPEAKER_00]: James Gladstone is not going to shy away from making a big move if he thinks it can help get the Jaguars over the top in 2025.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_00]: And again, you go back to what he said when a pull it up about the trade for Greg Newsom.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: He said, we are trying to win football games now, and Greg helps us do that.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_00]: As his skill set is a strong fit for our defensive scheme, which puts more vision on the quarterback and will lean on Greg's ability to find the football, we will continue to be aggressive to make us the best possible team this season.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, James Lads are basically just told you, they're not done.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_00]: and everything he is doing action-wise is showing you that they're not done and everything that is being reported is showing you that he is not done.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: I'm excited to see what happens.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: I'm really am.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_00]: I can't wait to see what potential moves they make.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: One, maybe big one, maybe a couple, I don't know.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_00]: James Ladsson has me excited to kind of check, check the notifications all the time to see what the heck's going on.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: Are they going to make a move while they're in London?
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: Who knows, maybe it's over the by week?
- 9:10[SPEAKER_00]: You get a guy in, maybe early next week, and you're able to have a little extra period getting them acclimated, who knows?
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: But the trade deadline is November 4th.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: I've never been this excited about the Jaguars and their ability to just improve their football team in a quick, short, aggressive burst.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: Let me know what y'all think in the comment section below.
