Speaker A: Hey, parents and coaches, are your kids using the right glove? The most important skill for youth athletes to learn is how to play proper catch. The problem is most youth gloves are made with bad leather and are too big for small hands. They actually make it harder to play catch. That's why former Major League Baseball shortstop Kevin Smith created Cali Gloves. Cali gloves are crafted from 100% Japanese kip leather and are the perfect size for kids. All Cali gloves come with palm slits, finger loops and elastic wrist lacing that encourage proper hand placement. The right closing patterns and give kids more confidence to go make plays. Cali gloves even allow parents to break in the glove without stretching out the fit. It's the glove Kevin wishes he had growing up and the glove all his teammates want for their kids. • 1:18
Speaker A: Great. How are you?
• 1:20
Speaker B: For those of you watching on YouTube, we did not plan to both have black hooded sweats on.
• 1:26
Speaker C: I turned mine backwards so that we didn't look the exact same.
• 1:30
Speaker B: But we're here nonetheless. So for today,
• 1:37
  Speaker C: there's some, there's some
• 1:38
Speaker B: recent movement on the, the Protect College Sports act, which we don't get political here. But whether the government should be involved in this I think is worth a, worth a long consideration. But I do think there's some good intentions here. The first phase of this past the senate on the 28th, 77 to 22. So it's moving on to the House. It's got to clear the House and then it's got to go to the President. You know, for those of you taking a civics class, I'll leave it at that. There's a lot in here, right? There's a lot in here. But I, I'll hit on a couple kind of the high points and then we can talk about the stuff that I think kind of directly impacts recruiting as a whole. But the nil stuff's gone wild. They're going to try to establish a framework around that. I won't get into the details of it, but they're trying to put some substance behind it in terms of how that's going to be monitored, regulated, so on and so forth. There's portions of the rev share you've got kind of finalizing the five year Eligibility model, which is already really a done deal, but that is layered in and then kind of the crux of some of the nil stuff is going to be around disguising it as recruiting money outside or associated entities and how that is going to be defined and how that is going to be regulated. So there's, there's quite a bit in there when you're talking about the money portion of this from a recruiting portion for me and Keith, I know you've dug into this quite a bit. There's a couple things that stick out to me is the limited transfers, which I think is fantastic. So first year you can transfer without losing any eligibility. Second year you'd be subject to having to sit out a year or essentially lose a year of eligibility. There are exceptions. Head coach leaves, sports gets did continued. There's other pieces of this gr. You know, graduate degree, you could transfer once, graduate from school, transfer again, so on and so forth. And then the other one that I think really actually somehow some way they need to put in some repercussions for this. But recruiting and tampering and it, I think it's obvious and it gets spoken about more in the bas, in the basketball and the football world, but it's a thing in the baseball world for those of you that have been involved or are involved, it happens. It just is what it is. But those are the two big ones for me that affect the recruiting, that are outside of the regulation of NIL money, so on and so forth. But I think those are two huge pieces of the puzzle. Where are your thoughts on this?
• 4:38
Speaker C: I think the transfer limit is awesome. You know, we've talked about this quite a bit over the last seemingly five years. It hasn't been, it's only been two. But I think the transfer limit thing is, is perfect. It gives you one, you know, one kind of get out of jail free card which I think kids should have. But also you're like if you want to do it again, you're going to have to sit out a year. And obviously your, your, your waivers in there of like the head coach leave, it leaves the, the sport is discontinued, things like that. Yeah, like you should get a free transfer for those things. I thought the, the rev share stuff, you know, it is what it is. It, it's only going to affect a very small minority of people. I think sticking with the house settlement of the five year eligibility eligibility window and keeping the same language of, you know, either once you graduate high school and enter into college or the fall after you turn 19 if you do take a gap year or a post grad year, I think was great of not necessarily getting in the way of something that is kind of already been established and I think works right, like you have people that are going to post grad for a myriad of different issues and also people who might take a gap year, things like that, that allow you to be able to do it. I think it also allows with that five year window guys, to legitimately be able to go to a junior college and play for one or two years and still be able to play for three or four years at a four year school versus the two and two, you know, so it does give you the opportunity to be able to go to a junior college and kind of restart your recruitment process and then, you know, go play for four years or go play for three, whatever that looks like the one. And I don't think we really have to get into it a whole hell of a lot. Andy, I thought that the conference realignments was rather interesting where they're going to cap conferences at 20 schools I'd be interested in kind of. A lot of this stuff runs out at the end of, I got into the minutiae here, but it kind of runs out at the end of the. Their TV deals where they might be able to then realign again or maybe start some different conferences. But I thought like that was an interesting subset to this. You know, I know part of it is they want to try to save some of these schools money and things like that. Like there's a lot of schools out there that are bleeding money left and right. The other good thing, and it doesn't necessarily relate to baseball per se, but it is the, the Olympic sports where they're not. Schools are not going to be able to cut Olympic sports, which I think is a great thing, obviously, right, like you're wrestling, you're weightlifting or things like that where, you know, the schools are still going to have to be able to subsidize and keep those sports going. And lastly, the one that I think is probably going to fly under the radar and a lot of this is that they are granting the NCAA an antitrust, which I think is interesting because it allows them to do things that you wouldn't otherwise be able to do when it comes to legislation and making rules and doing things and getting sued. Xyz, because the ncaa, as we've talked about on here, has been sued to the nth degree and they are tired of losing. So granting them that antitrust status, I think is so super Interesting. That's going to allow them to do some things that may be unpopular but they're going to be protected. If this bill is to pass the House.
• 8:30
Speaker B: That's definitely something to watch. I don't know if it's going to affect recruiting, but yeah, that, that is a, a really good.
• 8:37
Speaker C: I don't, I don't, I don't know that it will affect recruiting, but I think it's going to definitely affect student athletes. When you're in college, right like, which is the byproduct of recruiting. Like you're going to get recruited to play somewhere and then there's going to be some legislation that's going to get thrown in there which, and I don't know, I'm pontificating at this point but like we're probably talking about going back to a similar, albeit different, but a similar type rule, rules setting that you and I played under 20 plus years ago.
• 9:11
Speaker D: If you are the parent of a high school baseball player with college aspirations, you already know the recruiting process can feel overwhelming. Endless showcases, non stop emails and big promises with very little clarity. That's why we recommend Diamond College Showcase Camps, the nation's premier academic baseball showcase. At Diamond College showcases, every college coach in attendance is there with a purpose to coach, instruct, evaluate and recruit. Every player is seen, every player is engaged and every family leaves with a clear understanding of where they truly stand. This is not a mass camp. College coaches run the drills, evaluate every athlete and provide honest professional feedback that you can trust. Diamond College Showcase Camps are built for serious student athletes who value both baseball and academics. If you're looking for transparency, clarity and a recruiting experience that respects your time and your players future, Diamond College Showcase

Speaker B: Yeah, I'm, I'm very curious to see how this is going to be handled in the house and then what the process is to get it, you know, actually done. Because I'm guessing the lawsuits and the appeals and stuff will come after this. Just like it seems like anything involved with, with the NCAA and the general kind of, I guess, environment that we're in right now. But yeah, I mean I, I think there's a lot of good stuff in here that, you know, the cat's out of the bag a little bit with a lot of this stuff.
• 10:52
  Speaker E: Right.
• 10:53
Speaker B: And you can, we've talked about this. Like you can complain about it, you can be mad about it. It's not black and white. It's more nuanced. It's not Ruining college sports. It's just a different environment. But I do think having some guardrails, having some rules, I think it could ultimately benefit the athlete more than it might seem right now. But it certainly is stuff that gives puts a little bit more power in the school and the ncaa in my opinion, because you're going to stop some of the back and forth, you probably, probably going to save them some money. But I do think that it was only a matter of time before this happened. I guess we'll see what happens with. I've read that there's a chance that this could go to vote as soon as next week. So we could, we could.
• 11:46
Speaker C: I've read a bunch of different things. I've heard as early as next week, I've heard until after the midterms, but I don't necessarily know how much opposition there's really going to be. Like, obviously there's going to be people on both sides that are going to, you know, foo foo it. To your point of the show, I don't necessarily know if, you know, we can debate that later on. But like, I do think that there needs to be some semblance of guardrails put around what's going on because you're, you can just sue the NCAA and
• 12:23
Speaker B: get what you want.
• 12:24
  Speaker D: Right?
• 12:25
Speaker C: Like, and that's not necessarily, that's not good for anybody. Like, even though you might think that it is, that it's not because not everyone's winning. It's only a handful of people that are,
• 12:39
  Speaker B: you know.
• 12:39
Speaker C: But I think the, I think, I think trying to stick to the House settlement stuff and integrating that into this bill I thought was a really good idea of at least saying like, okay, like here are the things that are really good that we like have, we think are going to work. And then also adding the one time transfer, things like that. Like, I think a lot of this stuff will mitigate some of the things that we've had going on over the course of the last couple years. So, you know, I don't, I mean, I think like anything else it can, obviously it's not going to be perfect, but at least it's a start to where we can, we can start getting back to some semblance of, I don't want to say normalcy because that's like the toothpaste is out of the tube at this point in time. But getting back to something that is, resembles a little bit more of college athletics versus what we, it's kind of been like a free agency based model of professional sports.
• 13:35
Speaker B: Yeah, we'll find out in the next couple weeks, I guess, and I'm sure we'll, we'll, we'll have some more thoughts. Our opinions could change. We do have, we do reserve the right to, to change our opinions.
• 13:49
  Speaker C: That's not allowed.
• 13:50
Speaker B: But that would be interesting to watch. And like, I'm sure, I'm sure we're going to see all kinds of stuff flying around on X and Instagram or wherever. But, yeah, curious to see what this does in the House. I mean, it passed pretty overwhelmingly in the Senate.
• 14:07
Speaker C: Yeah. Seven thousand, 722. It's pretty big.
• 14:10
Speaker B: Yeah. So, all right. Anything else you want to add to this one, Coach? No. All right.
• 14:18
Speaker C: Very rarely, actually, hold on. Very rarely do I get to use my history degree on this podcast. So I'm glad that I was able
