- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Today is the eighth day of the month,
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: sharing wisdom's call to influence from Proverbs 8,
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: 1 through 8.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Hi, I'm Ernie Lansford, and thank you for joining me.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: And this is Marketplace Proverbs and Coffee with Ernie.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: A proverb each day keeps stinking thinking away.
- 0:25This podcast is about bringing timeless biblical wisdom into
- 0:30the marketplace where
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: influence is real,
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: choices are constant,
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: and relationships matter more than results.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: So grab your coffee, tea, latte, soda, water, whatever,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: and let's get started.
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: Today,
- 0:45SPEAKER_00: I'm reading from Chapter 8 of Marketplace Proverbs,
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: Volume 2,
- 0:51SPEAKER_00: Micro to Macro,
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: The Ripple Effect of Influence,
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: written by yours truly and co-author John Kluter.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And let's talk about wisdom's call to influence from Proverbs 8,
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: verses 1 through 8,
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: At the entrance, she cries aloud, quote, to you, O people, I call out.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I raise my voice to all mankind.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: You who are simple gain prudence.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: You who are foolish set your hearts on it.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Listen, for I have trustworthy things to say.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I open my lips to speak what is right.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: My mouth speaks what is true.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: For my lips detest wickedness.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: All the words of my mouth are just.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: None of them is crooked or perverse.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: That's Proverbs 8, 1 through 8, from the English Standard Version, ESV.
- 2:09I feel Proverbs 8 vividly depicts wisdom calling out from the
- 2:14city's gates,
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: inviting everyone,
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: simple and wise alike,
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: to embrace understanding and truth.
- 2:23This imagery reflects our micro-to-macro principle,
- 2:27the subtitle of our book.
- 2:30It's small individual choices to seek wisdom that creates
- 2:35ripples of influence that
- 2:37SPEAKER_00: extend to more significant relationships,
- 2:41SPEAKER_00: teams,
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: and organizations.
- 2:45Every interaction we have in the marketplace holds the
- 2:48potential to be a moment of influence.
- 2:52Have you paused to think occasionally about the person sitting
- 2:55across from you in a meeting?
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Or the customer or client you're calling on seems distant?
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: Something to think about.
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: What struggles might they be carrying?
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: Did their day start with a messy house,
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: a rushed school drop-off,
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: or an empty fuel tank in the car?
- 3:18SPEAKER_00: Too much a month after the money has run out?
- 3:22Did they leave home with unresolved tensions or burdens really
- 3:26weighing on their heart?
- 3:29When we see others through a kingdom-focused lens,
- 3:33we shift from transactions to relationships.
- 3:37We begin to recognize a shared humanity in those we meet and
- 3:42the opportunities to
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: serve them in ways that reflects God's love.
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: Think about this as a macro vision through micro actions.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Proverbs 8 reminds us that wisdom is not reserved for the elite,
- 4:00SPEAKER_00: but frankly it's offered to everyone.
- 4:02SPEAKER_00: Quote, to you, O people, I call out.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: I raise my voice to all mankind, end quote.
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: So,
- 4:11SPEAKER_00: wisdom equips us with prudence,
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: temperance,
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: and patience,
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: enabling us to approach each interaction with humility and grace.
- 4:24I feel our role in the marketplace is critical,
- 4:28even when we feel frustrated or unfulfilled.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: We're called to be Christ's hands and feet,
- 4:35SPEAKER_00: and how we respond to others in small,
- 4:38seemingly insignificant moments creates ripples that can
- 4:44profoundly impact the
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: broader culture of our workplace and marketplace mission fields.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: St.
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: Francis of Elysee is credited with saying,
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: preach the gospel at all times,
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: and when necessary,
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: and only when necessary,
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: use words.
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: And this wisdom challenges us to embody the gospel in our actions,
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: ensuring that our lives speak louder than our words.
- 5:14Even the smallest gestures can create lasting influence when we
- 5:19show up with a heart of service.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: Frankly, that's building the relationships that really ripple.
- 5:28It's easy to focus on tasks and miss the opportunities for
- 5:33connection that God
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: places in our path.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: However, every moment is an opportunity to plant seeds of influence.
- 5:43SPEAKER_00: A simple act of kindness,
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: a word of encouragement,
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: or even a silent,
- 5:48faithful prayer for a colleague can create a ripple effect far
- 5:53beyond the immediate
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: moment.
- 5:57SPEAKER_00: When rooted in wisdom and love,
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: these micro actions,
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: as we call them,
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: build into macro influence.
- 6:05They prepare us to serve others well and reflect Christ's light
- 6:11in the marketplace.
- 6:13Wisdom calls us to be ready for significant opportunities and
- 6:17the small daily
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: interactions that shape our relationships and impact.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: So, here's some action points for you today.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Let's think about micro steps toward macro influence.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: One,
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: start a journal,
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: if you don't already have one,
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: and create a list of people you interact with daily.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Two, pray for them.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Ask God to bless and guide them in serving them well.
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: And pray for your competitors, too.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: And three, check in.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Follow up with those individuals you show care.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: I was taught as a young man,
- 7:01SPEAKER_00: when someone comes to mind that hasn't been on my mind recently,
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: or there hasn't been an interaction with them in quite some time,
- 7:10SPEAKER_00: but they just come to mind.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: I was taught by my grandmother,
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: Powell,
- 7:15that could be the Holy Spirit telling me to pray for them and
- 7:19to reach out to them.
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: And you know something?
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: When I do that, more times than not, they were contemplating something.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: They needed prayer for something.
- 7:33And sometimes it created an opportunity to engage about
- 7:38something they were
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: thinking about on the business level.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: So, once again, check in with people.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: Follow up with those on your list,
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: but be sensitive to those that come to mind out of nowhere,
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: as I say.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: And then your fourth action point, observe the ripple effect.
- 7:58Reflect on how your prayers and actions impact the lives of
- 8:02others as well as your own.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Let's pray.
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: Lord God, thank you.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: for the opportunities you give each of us daily to influence others.
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Help us to recognize these moments as part of your excellent plan,
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: no matter how small they appear to us.
- 8:24Equip us with wisdom,
- 8:26patience,
- 8:27and love to serve those around us in ways that honor you.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: And may our actions create ripples of influence beyond what we can seek.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: And forgive me personally when I fall short.
- 8:42And continue to open doors for me and for my listeners to make
- 8:47a difference.
- 8:48SPEAKER_00: In Jesus' name, amen.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: Our customer success code for today compliments us say he'll bloom.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Quote, the things you focus on will grow.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: So choose wisely.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: End quote.
- 9:03Well,
- 9:03thanks for joining me today's episode of Marketplace Proverbs
- 9:07and Coffee with Ernie.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I speak numbers 624 through 26 over you.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: May the Lord bless you and protect you.
- 9:16SPEAKER_00: May the Lord make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: May the Lord look with favor on you and give you peace.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: If this message encouraged you, please share it and remember.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Success is temporal.
