- 0:00Speaker 1: Nobody does it like your early morning praise party. I
- 0:03Speaker 1: am Sherri Mackey and it's time right now for today's word.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Don't let offense steal your peace. Luke 17 and four says,
- 0:15Speaker 1: even if that person wrongs you seven times a day
- 0:19Speaker 1: and each time turns again and asks for forgiveness, you
- 0:23Speaker 1: must forgive. Now let's be honest. People can hurt your feelings, Lord.
- 0:31Speaker 1: Sometimes it's a rude coworker who speaks to you disrespectfully.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Sometimes it's a family member who doubts you, a friend
- 0:38Speaker 1: who walks away, or someone you trust who disappoints you.
- 0:41Speaker 1: And sometimes the people who hurt us the most are
- 0:44Speaker 1: the very people we never.
- 0:46Speaker 2: Expected to hurt us at all.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Jesus understood that offenses would come. In Luke 17, as
- 0:52Speaker 1: he prepared his disciples for the challenges ahead, he made
- 0:56Speaker 1: it clear that he would encounter people who would hurt, disappoint,
- 1:00Speaker 1: and offend them. But Jesus didn't warn them about the offense.
- 1:05Speaker 1: He didn't just do that. He taught them how to respond.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Forgive.
- 1:11Speaker 1: He even said that if someone wronged them repeatedly and
- 1:14Speaker 1: came back asking for forgiveness, they were to steal, forgive.
- 1:19Speaker 2: See, that's not always easy, is it?
- 1:22Speaker 1: When somebody hurts you, your first instinct may be to
- 1:25Speaker 1: replay the conversation. Rehearse what you wish you had said.
- 1:29Speaker 1: Imagine how you respond the next time you see them.
- 1:32Speaker 1: And the more you think about it, the more upset
- 1:35Speaker 1: you become. Before long, one painful moment has taken over
- 1:40Speaker 1: your thoughts, affected your mood, and stolen your joy. The
- 1:44Speaker 1: person who offended you may have moved on, and you're
- 1:47Speaker 1: still carrying the weight of of what happened. Don't allow
- 1:51Speaker 1: somebody else's action to take a permanent residence in your heart.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Forgiveness is how you begin to release the weight. It
- 1:59Speaker 1: doesn't mean what the person did was acceptable. It doesn't
- 2:03Speaker 1: mean that you have to pretend you weren't hurt. Restore
- 2:05Speaker 1: trust immediately and allow someone to keep on mistreating you. No,
- 2:10Speaker 1: you can forgive someone and still establish some healthy boundaries.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Forgiveness means you refuse to let bitterness control your heart.
- 2:19Speaker 1: And the sooner you began working through an offense, the
- 2:22Speaker 1: less opportunity it is to grow into resentment. That doesn't
- 2:27Speaker 1: mean every hurt disappears overnight. Some wounds take time. It
- 2:31Speaker 1: takes prayer. It takes support to heal. But you can
- 2:34Speaker 1: make the decision not to feed the bitterness. So when
- 2:37Speaker 1: somebody offends you, pause before you react.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Pray before you respond.
- 2:43Speaker 1: Give yourself room to process the hurt and then ask
- 2:46Speaker 1: God to help you release what you can't change. You
- 2:50Speaker 1: can't control what people say about you. You can't control
- 2:53Speaker 1: how people treat you or whether they apologize. But with
- 2:56Speaker 1: God's help, you can choose how you respond.
- 3:00Speaker 2: So protect your peace, guard your heart.
- 3:03Speaker 1: Forgive freely and refuse to let offense turn into someone
- 3:07Speaker 1: or turn you into someone you were never meant to be.
- 3:11Speaker 1: You have too much purpose to spend your days carrying
- 3:14Speaker 1: yesterday's hurt. Father, thank you for teaching us the power
- 3:18Speaker 1: of forgiveness. Help us release the hurt, the disappointment, and
- 3:21Speaker 1: the offense we've been carrying.
- 3:23Speaker 2: When people wound us, give us the.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Grace to respond with wisdom instead of anger and forgiveness
- 3:28Speaker 1: instead of bitterness. Teach us to guard our hearts, establish
- 3:32Speaker 1: healthy boundaries, and refuse to let resentment steal our peace.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Heal the places in us that still hurt and help
- 3:38Speaker 1: us extend the same mercy to others that you've shown
- 3:41Speaker 1: to us in Jesus' name.
- 3:43Speaker 2: That's your word for today.
- 3:45Speaker 1: Take it, apply it to your everyday life, and you
- 3:47Speaker 1: continue to be encouraged and inspired.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It is your early morning praise party. I am Sherri Mackey.
