- 2:51Ladies and gentlemen, our intern final week for our internship
- 2:56for Jarrett. He has been fantastic all year
- 2:59round. So thank you to Jarrett for
- 3:01continuously keeping up with all the different things that we ask
- 3:05him offset from our show and even joining us during the
- 3:08regular show every single week. So thank you to Jared.
- 3:11Yeah, it's been a crazy 1, ladies and gentlemen, and
- 3:13Speedy, stop typing. You're annoying as you always
- 3:16are with your. You know what?
- 3:19It it really, really bothers me. This kid types like he's about
- 3:25to attack a walrus or attack a ball.
- 3:29The guy just types and types and types and types.
- 3:33He's like killing the the keyboard and I keep telling him
- 3:37learn how to type. Learn how to type where it's not
- 3:40going to break the keyboard. How many keyboards have you
- 3:42broken so far It on on our show in the past, Speedy.
- 3:46It's got to be at least one or two of them.
- 3:48The guy doesn't know how to type, ladies and gentlemen, but
- 3:51I had an interesting weekend. And by the way, I don't know if
- 3:53anybody got a chance to enjoy the snow.
- 3:56We enjoyed about 6 1/2 inches of snow here in Long Island, so it
- 4:01was crazy. And then obviously snowing.
- 4:05While it was snowing, I was trying to shovel it.
- 4:08My landlord is been on vacation, so it's been all me with my
- 4:12back, my lower back and all that other stuff.
- 4:15I was actually plowing the snow off to the side.
- 4:20So yeah, I I was dealing with that and I got a chance to enjoy
- 4:23the Heisman Trophy awards. I got a chance to meet Mendoza
- 4:29and all the guys Jeremiah Love, I got a chance to meet all of
- 4:33them. They were all fans saying they
- 4:35were all great, great guys. And obviously anybody that's
- 4:39ever been to the award show and in the media end of it, I've
- 4:43never seen anything like it. When Mendoza was coming into the
- 4:47media room after winning the award, his pals, all the guys
- 4:52that came with him to enjoy possibly him winning the Heisman
- 4:56Trophy, went crazy. I have video on it.
- 4:58We're working on cutting it up and posting it up on social
- 5:02media. I wrote a story.
- 5:03Go check it out on the Worldwide Sports Radio website.
- 5:06It is fantastic. It's a great story and so
- 5:10gracious. The man is such a nice kid, he
- 5:13really is. And after winning the award and
- 5:16his coach got a chance to speak a little bit to the media, he
- 5:20told all the kids, enjoy this weekend because on Monday we're
- 5:23going to get back to work and get ready for possibly on a
- 5:27national national championship run.
- 5:29So you can tell what Indiana wants to do.
- 5:33And what Indiana is planning to do is, is go through this
- 5:36tournament and and win their first national championship.
- 5:39So it's been a crazy, crazy weekend for me.
- 5:43And then I got a chance to see him.
- 5:44I've never seen a winner, a Heisman Trophy winner in New
- 5:49York City. Now we were at the Marquis
- 5:53Marriott over there. I think it's called the Marriott
- 5:56Marquis. Marriott Marquis.
- 5:57Yeah, and I was right there. It's right there in Times
- 6:00Square. It's right in the middle of
- 6:01Times Square off of 46. And what is so cool about it is
- 6:07after he won the award and he was done with the media and his
- 6:10coach was speaking to the media, the kid went downstairs with his
- 6:13his teammates and he went to the middle of Times Square with his
- 6:18trophy and had all the fans, all the people at Times Square enjoy
- 6:23this win. Enjoy this Heisman Trophy win
- 6:28from, you know, Mendoza. And it celebrated it in the
- 6:30middle of Times Square with all the fans and everybody screaming
- 6:34and, and screaming JETS, jets, Jets, Jets.
- 6:37And all this, all the crazy stuff that I got a chance to
- 6:40experience. It was crazy.
- 6:42And I got to give Mendoza a lot of credit.
- 6:44I mean, he knows how to handle himself.
- 6:46I've never seen a player handle the, the Heisman, winning the
- 6:52Heisman, his speech that he made to his mother, his brother, his
- 6:56father, his grandparents that were there and, and just how
- 7:00gracious he was to just be there and be a part of that award
- 7:03ceremony. And you got to like it.
- 7:06If you're a Jet fan, you're a Giant fan, cuz heck, I, I'm not
- 7:09saying the Giants are going to move away from Jackson Dart.
- 7:12I'm not saying I'm not making any rumors.
- 7:13I'm not pressing on it, but the Giants have to look at Fernando
- 7:18Mendoza in the offseason. I, I, if they're drafting at 1
- 7:22and you get a chance to land a player like this.
- 7:25The guy knows how to speak to the media.
- 7:27He's pretty. He's very soft spoken.
- 7:30He knows how to answer questions.
- 7:31He's good with the New York market and the media over there.
- 7:34All the writers, everybody love the kid.
- 7:37Everybody love the kid. I'm not saying nobody likes
- 7:39Jackson Dart, but you could tell that he fits here in New York.
- 7:44So if if you want to ask my honest opinion for all The Jets
- 7:47fans out there and all the Giant fans, no matter who gets him and
- 7:51I think it's going to be one of the New York teams.
- 7:54I know Las Vegas is sitting there, but I think no matter
- 7:56what, I think The Jets are going to trade up to try to get
- 7:58Mendoza. If the Giants are sitting there
- 8:01at 1. I think the Giants really need
- 8:03and depending on who their GM is going to be if Joshen gets fired
- 8:06and who their coach is going to be, you're going to have to make
- 8:08a decision. Do you believe that Jackson Dart
- 8:11is going to stay healthy and Jackson Dart your guy or you
- 8:15make a move, you trade, man, you trade Jackson dart during the
- 8:19during the draft or before the draft and you go after Mendoza
- 8:23at one. That's the way I would go.
- 8:25And I honestly, I, I, I know I'm not a giant fan, but I wouldn't
- 8:30be upset if the Giants landed a guy like Mendoza because I think
- 8:34Mendoza fits wherever he goes, especially here in New York.
- 8:37The Jets are the Giants. I'm going to root this kid on I,
- 8:40I think the kid has that, that that kind of spunk to him that
- 8:44kind of makes you feel that this guy is perfect for the New York
- 8:48market, the New York media and he fits really that, that
- 8:53picture perfect position as the starting quarterback of any one
- 8:58of these New York teams. The Kansas City Chiefs fell to
- 9:01the LA Chargers 16 to 13 on Sunday, eliminating them from
- 9:05the NFL playoffs for the first time in the Patrick Mahomes era.
- 9:11This ends a run of seven straight AFC championship game
- 9:15appearances, and it's their first time missing the playoffs
- 9:18since 2014. Late in the game, Mahomes went
- 9:23down with a torn ACL and LCL. Mahomes already had surgery done
- 9:29by the Cowboys head team doctor, who also worked on Dak
- 9:33Prescott's name. While it's too While it's too
- 9:37early to tell how he will recover, Mahomes is expected to
- 9:43return. His return date is September
- 9:4615th, meaning he may only miss the first game or so next
- 9:52season. The Chiefs have been their own
- 9:55worst enemy in 2025 and beat themselves with drops second
- 10:01most in the NFL and penalties tied for seventh most in the
- 10:05NFL. One AFC executive said that the
- 10:08Chief Chiefs look tired this year and weren't playing with
- 10:13the same energy, particular with particularly from veteran
- 10:18players like Chris Jones, Travis Kelsey after playing 81 games in
- 10:22the last Four Seasons. All we have now are questions
- 10:27for the for for the the former dynasty.
- 10:30Will the Chiefs rebound from the loss of Mahomes?
- 10:34Will Travis Kelsey return for another season?
- 10:36And will the coaching staff stay stay together and try to keep
- 10:41the magic going? I do not believe Spagnolo will
- 10:45be there next year. I I think you'll interview for a
- 10:48couple of jobs. He's been one of the best
- 10:50defensive coordinators in the NFL.
- 10:52There's no question that he has been, he's really developed some
- 10:55of these young talented corners over the last couple years.
- 10:58Sneed, who's now moved on in his career, they they've, they've
- 11:02built a great franchise of players and, and talent and, and
- 11:07you could say this has been a great dynasty and everybody
- 11:10wants to give Andy Reid all the credit.
- 11:12But I would beg to differ on that.
- 11:14I think Andy Reid is a big part of the growth of some of these
- 11:17young players and Patrick Mahomes.
- 11:19But I think obviously people don't recognize how important
- 11:23Spagnosa has been for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 11:27And to me, losing Mahomes for a little bit of time because it
- 11:32seems like he's not going to miss much time.
- 11:34He's going to be pushed and rushed back.
- 11:36I don't know if Travis Kelsey is going to retire.
- 11:38I think Travis Kelsey could absolutely play another season
- 11:42if Patrick Mahomes and and the Kansas City Chiefs believe that
- 11:45he'll be back early next season in 2026.
- 11:50What I will say about this franchise over the last two
- 11:53seasons is last year, I think a lot of the games were won by the
- 11:58referees. Some of the calls that happened
- 12:00in the game that a lot of people believe that the NFL wanted to
- 12:03see them go to the Super Bowl, wanted to see the Kansas City
- 12:06Chiefs make the playoffs and make a run.
- 12:08And they did go to the Super Bowl and get their butts whipped
- 12:11by a really talented Eagles team.
- 12:14But this year, they didn't have so much luck.
- 12:16The AFC has been all over the place.
- 12:18Everybody thought that the Baltimore Ravens were going to
- 12:21run away with their division. Everybody thought that the
- 12:24Buffalo Bills were going to run away with their division.
- 12:27Everybody thought that Kansas City, no matter ups and downs in
- 12:30the offseason, they were going to run away with their division.
- 12:33But who got better? Well, the Chargers got better.
- 12:37The Broncos got better. The Steelers, I don't know what
- 12:41they got, but better. The Patriots got better and
- 12:45younger and a new coach. Things change in the NFL.
- 12:50In any other sport, you could be the worst team one year and the
- 12:53best team the next. Ask the Patriots and and that's
- 12:58the transition. When you watch the NFL from all
- 13:00the other sports, the NBA, if you have two superstars, you're
- 13:03definitely making the playoffs. You're definitely going to be a
- 13:06top five team in the NHL if you have players like Connor McDavid
- 13:10or you make a move and you have the number one pick and you have
- 13:13a Matthew Schaefer. That's just absolutely so eye
- 13:16appealing and everybody sees the difference of the way the
- 13:19Islanders are playing with the youngster playing as well and as
- 13:22fast as he has. And then you watch other sports
- 13:27and, and the transition of other sports and, and the way these
- 13:30players are playing baseball, for instance, you make a trade
- 13:33or two, you, you sign people with deferred money.
- 13:36Hey, you're, you're automatically a World Series
- 13:39championship team. But are you?
- 13:42Because we've seen a baseball is the hardest sport to really
- 13:45recognize who is going to make the playoffs and who's going to
- 13:48make a run every single year because of injuries.
- 13:52The only exact team that I can put pinpoint every single year,
- 13:55the only two teams that you always can say that are in the
- 13:58mix is the Yankees, who have what, 35 winning seasons in a
- 14:02row, which is the longest streak I've ever seen in professional
- 14:06sports history. I don't think that's a streak
- 14:07that'll ever be broken. I think it's 3435.
- 14:10And then there's obviously the Dodgers, who have been
- 14:15baseball's dynasty over the last eight years, and they're going
- 14:20to continue to win because they added Edwin Diaz, a position
- 14:23that they needed to fill and a weakness that they needed to
- 14:27fill in the offseason, and now they did that.
- 14:30With football, it's different. You draft the player a position
- 14:35of need. If this guy's a superstar, can
- 14:38change everything. You make a couple of trades in
- 14:41the offseason. You bring in some free agents to
- 14:44fill in spots that are weak and you're automatically, if you
- 14:47have a star quarterback, you're automatically a contender.
- 14:51If Patrick Mahomes comes back next year and the beginning of
- 14:53the season and let's say Tyree Kill becomes available and Tyree
- 14:59Kill is maybe 80% of what he was when he was playing for Kansas
- 15:04City, he changes everything for the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 15:09If they make a move and they bring in Breece Hall because The
- 15:13Jets might franchise them and The Jets are looking for a third
- 15:15round pick, maybe in the offseason they're willing to
- 15:18give The Jets a third round pick and they add Bruce Hall to the
- 15:21mix, they're automatically a Super Bowl contending team.
- 15:25Why? Because they're Patrick Mahomes.
- 15:28And what's so interesting about football, and I could go over
- 15:32and over and over and over and over again about it, there's
- 15:36only seven teams in the NFL that have a true franchise
- 15:40quarterback. Seven teams.
- 15:44The other teams are. There's a question.
- 15:46There's always a question mark. I don't think Trevor Lawrence is
- 15:48a franchise quarterback. He's getting paid like one.
- 15:51He's having a good season. Do I think Trevor Lawrence is a
- 15:54franchise quarterback making $55 million?
- 15:57The answer would be no. Dak Prescott, say whatever you
- 16:01want about him, He is to me a franchise quarterback.
- 16:05He's done it year in and year out.
- 16:08He doesn't win in the playoffs. A lot of quarterbacks don't.
- 16:10We can go back in time. Did Dan Marino ever win a Super
- 16:14Bowl? The answer would be no.
- 16:17You're going to blame Dan Marino on why he never won a Super
- 16:19Bowl? Dan Marino is one of the
- 16:21greatest quarterbacks we've ever seen.
- 16:24So we could go back and forth. Philip Rivers, look, he came
- 16:27back 44 years old, actually played fairly decent.
- 16:31I mean, he didn't throw 200 yards.
- 16:33But for a guy that hasn't stepped on an NFL football field
- 16:36for five years since COVID, he had a chance to win a game.
- 16:40He had a chance to take his team to the playoffs.
- 16:42It still has a chance to take the Colts to the playoffs.
- 16:46Things happen in the NFL that you couldn't even imagine.
- 16:50I did not think Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs would
- 16:54not be in the mix to be a Super Bowl contender this year.
- 16:59And they were out pretty much for the last three weeks.
- 17:04They were in the mix because that's the way it works.
- 17:06But I didn't think the Kansas City Chiefs were making the play
- 17:09offs. Even if Patrick Mahomes went
- 17:11down or didn't go down, they were never making the play offs.
- 17:14There's so many weaknesses that need to be filled in for the
- 17:17Kansas City Chiefs and injuries change everything.
- 17:21I'll say it again, Michael Parsons going down the way he
- 17:24did this past weekend, does this say that the the the Packers
- 17:28don't have a chance to make the playoffs?
- 17:30The answer would be they have a chance.
- 17:32They had a chance last year and it's practically the same team.
- 17:35They got read back. But you made that move for
- 17:37Michael Parsons. You're paying Michael, Michael
- 17:39Parsons $48 million. That's a lot of money.
- 17:43You paid him a significant amount of money in the offseason
- 17:46after making that trade because you expect he was going to be
- 17:49the game changing player that's going to get you over the hump
- 17:52and get you to the Super Bowl. Now you'll lose him for the
- 17:55season, maybe for half the season next year, maybe the full
- 17:58season next year. Remember, a quarterback position
- 18:01and a defensive lineman are two different positions.
- 18:04You're you're playing off the you're, you're playing at behind
- 18:07center, you're playing off the ball as a defensive player.
- 18:11So and you're using your legs, your ankles, your knees, your,
- 18:14your whole body to get to that quarterback.
- 18:17It's a little bit more torque on the on the knee.
- 18:20I don't know when Michael Parsons going to come back, but
- 18:22that's the difference. One player can change
- 18:24everything, everything. And again with football, we
- 18:30don't know who is going to go to the Super Bowl.
- 18:33As a matter of fact, for years over the last couple of years,
- 18:36Kansas City was almost a shoe in to make the AFC title game
- 18:39seven, what is it, 7 AFC title games in a row.
- 18:43So the the bets would have been in before the season started
- 18:46that Kansas City was going to the Super Bowl or we're going to
- 18:50the AFC title game. So this is a shocker.
- 18:54And to watch a guy like Mahomes go down the way he did, holding
- 18:58his knee, it's scary, but it just.
- 19:01How do you but how do you think him going down obviously this as
- 19:05late as is in the season? How do you think that affects
- 19:08like the franchise and like in everybody on the team?
- 19:12Like like you pointed out with Kelsey, it's like is does he
- 19:15make a decision knowing that that Pat's going to come back?
- 19:18Yes. Do you think changes the dynamic
- 19:20of people wanting to either come there or like, hey, if I'm up
- 19:23for contract or if they're one of the teams that are looking me
- 19:25in the offseason? You think like the uncertainty
- 19:28of knowing when or when he won't come back will affect it like
- 19:34long term and not just short term.
- 19:36Job you just gave the answer if Kelsey, if you're hearing right
- 19:40now from the the Kansas City Chiefs and and and obviously he
- 19:43just went for surgery. He went to get his surgery right
- 19:46away. So he's got what 5 months to
- 19:48heal, six months to heal before pre season or before he has to
- 19:54get on the OTAs and he's not going to even get on the field
- 19:56with OTAs. He'll probably be ready after
- 19:59the preseason, second or first game, if you're hearing that.
- 20:03And he believes he'll be back. You know, Patrick Mahomes will
- 20:05be back either Week 1 or Week 2. And they already know that.
- 20:09So, yeah, I if Kelsey knows that Patrick Mahomes will be back
- 20:12early, why wouldn't he come back to try to win another Super
- 20:15Bowl? He has a chance to be this this
- 20:21this decade. Of talent when it comes to tight
- 20:24ends. We've seen so many great tight
- 20:25ends. We talk about Antonio Gates, we
- 20:27talk about Gonzalez, we talk about Gronk, Travis Kelsey and
- 20:31he had a good season. Travis Kelsey didn't have a bad
- 20:33season. He had a pretty good season.
- 20:35Travis Kelsey has a chance to be the greatest tight end of all
- 20:39time. He's breaking.
- 20:40He's broken a lot of records. But if he plays another year or
- 20:44two, Travis Kelsey might have every single record in NFL
- 20:48issue. You know, he's the greatest
- 20:49tight end as far as the playoffs are concerned when it comes to,
- 20:53I think, touchdowns and yards per catch.
- 20:56So we all know what Travis Kelsey is and how talented
- 20:59Travis Kelsey is. And his brother Jason walked
- 21:02away from a chance to win another Super Bowl.
- 21:05He won, won. He could have won too, but that
- 21:07was his decision after making or getting $100 million from a
- 21:10sponsor with his podcast. I don't know if Travis Kelsey is
- 21:14ready to leave. And I think he's got more to
- 21:17prove. And I think knowing that Patrick
- 21:18Mahomes will be back early, I don't think he's going anywhere.
- 21:21I think that knowing that that story came out recently or the
- 21:25last 24 hours that Patrick Mahomes could be back in Week 1
- 21:28and Week 2 tells me that Travis Kelsey is definitely going to be
- 21:31back next year. But the fact here is, is Kansas
- 21:37City better next year with a Patrick Mahomes that might not
- 21:43be able to move inside and out of the pocket anymore.
- 21:45He might have to stay stagnant in the middle, you know, as a,
- 21:49as not a mobile quarterback, as a pocket pressing quarterback.
- 21:52Now Patrick Mahomes is, and I've, I, I don't remember who I
- 21:56was speaking to. He's one of the, I think it was
- 21:58Jeff that told me this. Patrick Mahomes is one of the
- 22:01worst pocket percentage quarterbacks in the NFL, and
- 22:07he's one of the best when it comes to moving outside of the
- 22:09pocket and making throws on the run.
- 22:11So think about this. Patrick Mahomes.
- 22:13His weakness is standing in the pocket and picking people apart
- 22:18in the open field. And what makes him so strong at
- 22:21the position is he can move inside and out of the pocket.
- 22:24And because he's so accurate and he does these crazy things with
- 22:26his left and his and his right hand, he can make any throw on
- 22:31the on the run. So does this change the dynamic
- 22:35of the greatness of of a guy like Patrick Mahomes in in his
- 22:39first season back from an injury like this?
- 22:41I don't know. It didn't change Tom Brady.
- 22:44Now, Tom Brady was a pocket quarterback.
- 22:46He's not. He didn't use mobility as one of
- 22:49his strengths. Patrick Mahomes does.
- 22:51So this could change the dynamic of who Patrick Mahomes is going
- 22:54to be or what he is going to be next year, which could change
- 22:58the factors on who wants to go over there and play with the
- 23:01Kansas City Chiefs. Because everybody knows when,
- 23:04when these free agents become available, they're going to
- 23:06teams, especially when they're at the tail end of their career.
- 23:09They're coming to the age of 30. They want to win a Super Bowl.
- 23:13Over the years, teams, players want to go to Patrick Mahomes
- 23:16and the Kansas City Chiefs because they're always going to
- 23:19be in the conversation. Are they going to be in the
- 23:22conversation next year? The Broncos are going to be
- 23:25maybe even better next year. They still have a lot of money
- 23:27that they can spend their defenses absolutely fantastic.
- 23:30Bonex looked pretty good in the second-half of the season.
- 23:33Maybe they had another wide receiver when they become
- 23:35available. Maybe they go after George
- 23:37Pickens. The Broncos can make that move
- 23:39in the offseason and bring in George Pickens And and their
- 23:43weakness was that secondary wide receiver, which they've been
- 23:45lacking this year. And if they fall short, I and
- 23:49and they're they've been one of the best teams in the NFL all
- 23:51season long. How about the New England
- 23:54Patriots? The Patriots they do have they
- 23:57have digs. Diggs is at the tail end of his
- 23:59career. He had a decent season.
- 24:01But maybe they want to bring in George Pickens.
- 24:03They got money. Why wouldn't they want to bring
- 24:05in George Pickens? So maybe The Jets, The Jets got
- 24:08money. Maybe The Jets want to bring in
- 24:10George Pickens so one player can change.
- 24:13Look at the look at the the Cowboys.
- 24:15The Cowboys were one of the best offensive teams in the league
- 24:17this year. But guess what?
- 24:19They lost Michael Parsons. They they went from, I wouldn't
- 24:23say one of the best defensive teams, one of the top 12 top 13
- 24:26defensive teams in the league to really top 20 or 2020 second in
- 24:32the league when it comes to all-purpose yards.
- 24:34So one player can change the factor of your team in the NFL.
- 24:39So when you look at the the fact that Patrick Mahomes went down,
- 24:42I wrote a story and you could go check that out on the Worldwide
- 24:45Sports Radio Network. I was talking about the the
- 24:48differences of the field and why I believe that turf and grass
- 24:53have affected these ACL injuries and these Achilles injuries.
- 24:57And I fish actually texted me off, you know, off the the story
- 25:01that he read. He says it's a sensational
- 25:03story, but he says, you do realize that Patrick Mahomes and
- 25:07Micah Parsons went down on grass.
- 25:09And I said, I do know that. He says, you know, people are
- 25:11going to attack you for that. And I said, yeah, I know.
- 25:14But again, I'm looking at how many injuries have happened this
- 25:18year more over the last couple years on turf.
- 25:21There's more injuries on turf than there ever has been on
- 25:23grass. And we've had below Powell on
- 25:25the show and he he gave you his take on it and Speedy, what did
- 25:29he say below Powell said what would he rather play on easily
- 25:32grass? Why?
- 25:33Because there is, even though you do lose speed, it's much
- 25:37easier for you to have a natural running motion and where you're
- 25:41not like trying to cut, you're trying to like be agile and type
- 25:44of player. Powell was especially.
- 25:45And what did he say about cleats?
- 25:46Yeah, he said. The cleats get caught all the
- 25:48time and they get tangled and that's where a lot of these
- 25:50injuries end up happening, especially with the newer turf.
- 25:52Yes, so the clutch could be a big problem too on why these
- 25:55injuries happen, as we brought that up in the NBAI told
- 25:59everybody, why do I think all these Achilles injuries are
- 26:03happening right now in the NBA? Maybe it's the sneakers, the
- 26:06product and the way they're developing these sneakers with
- 26:09science. That could be the factor that
- 26:12could be the problem. But to that point too, when
- 26:14you're talking about like factors that go into it, I'll
- 26:16never forget when we switched and and got a brand new facility
- 26:21and our soccer team was the first team to use this.
- 26:24And when you lay turf down, you're supposed to roll it and
- 26:28do all the other stuff, water and like and try to make it feel
- 26:30as much as it is, which it doesn't feel anything like it.
- 26:34But they had three blown Acls in literally 3 weeks of fall pride
- 26:39before they even started playing.
- 26:41And they're like, with what are we going to do here?
- 26:43Like we can't keep. And so they just built this
- 26:45brand new facility and now they're building another $200
- 26:47million facility. But back then it, it kind of
- 26:51goes back to what you're saying is, is now they've transitioned
- 26:55where they rebuilt their practice field is now grass
- 26:59because now they're trying to take that away.
- 27:01Because as we've seen with certain parts of, of front
- 27:04offices and, and let's call it the way it is, with the way
- 27:07colleges now, it's ran like prostyle kind of football teams
- 27:11where they're looking at the analytics of it and seeing if
- 27:13we're practicing on natural grass, then obviously we may
- 27:17limit our injuries and, and we've succumbed to only playing
- 27:20on, on turf so many times. So maybe that will help us out.
- 27:24And I would love to know, like, obviously we've seen percentages
- 27:28of injuries go up and a lot of ACL and Achilles, like you said,
- 27:32in it's not just the ones we hear about.
- 27:35How many are the ones we don't like that don't get the
- 27:37recognition of the Patrick Mahomes and the Parsons where,
- 27:40you know, it's just a he's in the NFL, but not a name to talk
- 27:44about it. I would love to see the numbers
- 27:46compared in the last when when turf became prevalent in in the
- 27:49stadiums and when it wasn't how much And if they obviously that
- 27:56plays a factor as much as players that are actually
- 27:58putting cleats to the dirt or cleats to the turf, how much
- 28:02that really, truly, genuinely effects.
- 28:03It how about Daniel Jones, Daniel Jones and by the way,
- 28:06great, great take on that job because there's I'm sure there
- 28:10is an an analytic number of players that have been hurt that
- 28:14nobody mentions because they're not superstars, they're not
- 28:17Patrick Mahomes, they're not even Daniel Jones.
- 28:19Daniel Jones went down. He's right now at the what is he
- 28:2330, almost 30 years old, 29 this year, 29, he's going to be 30
- 28:26years old next year. Daniel Jones tearing his
- 28:29Achilles. He was looking for a big time
- 28:31contract. He was looking possibly to make
- 28:3350 to 55,000,000. You think the cults are going to
- 28:37give him an extension after going down with Achilles?
- 28:39Absolutely not. You're going to look that maybe
- 28:42the Colts going in the second round because they don't have a
- 28:45first round pick because of The Jets because they made that move
- 28:47for Sauce Garner. Maybe the Colts make that move
- 28:50in the second round of bringing it back.
- 28:52If he if he's if he goes into the draft this year.
- 28:55So a quarterback that is at that cusp of where where they thought
- 29:00he was going to be in the first round before the season before
- 29:03it started to tail off in the second-half of the season.
- 29:06And Beck could be win a national championship this year when
- 29:09Miami, who knows what's going to happen.
- 29:10So Beck could go all the way from a guy that a lot of people
- 29:15were questioning what he was going to do with Miami this
- 29:17year. And he's been up and down all
- 29:18season long to make that tournament and then go all the
- 29:21way to win a national championship and be a big either
- 29:24a late first round pick or an early second round pick.
- 29:26Because a lot of of the experts think that Beck could be a late
- 29:30first round pick. Now that seller has decided to
- 29:33go back into the portal and and maybe play another season.
- 29:37Well, we'll play another senior season as a college football
- 29:41player. So I, I question a lot, a lot of
- 29:44things. By the way, I will say this.
- 29:46The Chargers are real. I don't care how many injuries
- 29:50they've had this year. Jim Harbaugh finds a way to win.
- 29:55He does it last year in his first season back in the NFL,
- 29:58won 11 games, 11 games this year, how many wins does he have
- 30:02now? He's got 10, right?
- 30:04He has a chance to win 1213 games.
- 30:07This guy finds a way to win. And I I say whatever you want.
- 30:11You don't like Jim Harbaugh. You don't like his personality.
- 30:14You don't like the slacks that he wears or the ugly shirts that
- 30:17he wears on the sidelines, his ugly, thick glasses that he
- 30:20wears that look like they're magnifying glasses.
- 30:22I don't know what you don't like about Jim Harbaugh, but the guy
- 30:25knows how to win with all the injuries he's had on that
- 30:28offensive line. They lost Slater, they lost Alt,
- 30:31they lost Johnson, they lost this, they lost that.
- 30:33Makai Becton's been up and down. They can't, they can't stay
- 30:36healthy on that offensive line. Oh, by the way, their star
- 30:39quarterback back is playing with a broken wrist, right?
- 30:42I think it's a broken wrist. Oh, and by the way, they're
- 30:44still winning 16 to 1313 to 10. They're still finding a way to
- 30:48win that is coaching. Ladies and gentlemen, say
- 30:51whatever you want. This man knows how to win.
- 30:55And I, I'm not, I'm never going to take shots at Jim Harbaugh
- 30:58and what he does on the football field and actually understands
- 31:02the concept of winning an NFL football game.
- 31:04Speed or no speed transition to no transition from college
- 31:08football to the NFL. This man is a born winner,
- 31:12Speedy. Yeah, and you look at that's why
- 31:14I don't like you can't give the injury bug excuse for the Chiefs
- 31:17because the charters have even more and just as many key
- 31:20players hurt as the Chiefs had. The Chiefs offense was dealing
- 31:22with all of the injuries to the wide receivers.
- 31:24We've talked about Josh Simmons going down with injury,
- 31:27basically their entire offensive line for a while, but I think
- 31:31meaning that the Chargers are still able to grid it out.
- 31:34They have a good defense. They have a better defense right
- 31:35now than the Chiefs do, but still they are able to grid it
- 31:37out with a lot of those same kind of problem without the
- 31:40offensive skilled talent coming back is a reason why the Chiefs
- 31:44can't. Chiefs fans can't just whine
- 31:46about injuries all the time and make it.
- 31:47The bigger issue that they had is they haven't drafted well on
- 31:50offense in recent years. Outside of Rashi Rice, they
- 31:53haven't drafted well. Worthy has been up and down so
- 31:55far. Running back they have not found
- 31:56for a while. Offensive line, Simmons has to
- 31:59stay healthy. And since their interior draft,
- 32:01Accrete Humphrey and Trey Smith in the same draft, they haven't
- 32:03drafted well in the offensive line.
- 32:05And it's going to be hard to be able to keep up that way when
- 32:08you do it. We were talking about the same
- 32:09kind of thing with the Bengals in their defense.
- 32:10The Bengals, once they had to go to a more homegrown defense, are
- 32:13now the worst defense in the NFL and Joe Burrows now in offseason
- 32:17trade rumors for the same kind of reason.
- 32:19Now, Mahomes is not going to be in trade rumors because he's
- 32:21hurt, but and he's obviously successful, but how is he going
- 32:25to come back? And is he going to like you were
- 32:27saying, Errol extend plays out of the pocket the way that he
- 32:30had to do much of the year and really save himself.
- 32:33It's weird because they played a lot better with the injuries to
- 32:36that team and then all of a sudden they either got too
- 32:38content or they just got sloppy and they're beating themselves,
- 32:41really. And maybe the referees are not
- 32:43on their side this year. Maybe it's not about the
- 32:46Swifties anymore. Maybe because the fact that
- 32:48Travis Kelsey is now engaged to Taylor Swift, nobody cares
- 32:51anymore. They know what the Quinky Dink
- 32:54is. They know what the concept of
- 32:56marriage is going to be. He's marrying a billionaire.
- 32:58Is Travis Kelsey coming back? Who the hell cares if Travis
- 33:02Kelsey is coming back? The fact here is everybody
- 33:07expected this Kansas City Chiefs team to somehow sneak into the
- 33:10playoffs, somehow make that run again, and they're not Andy Reid
- 33:14could be retiring at the end of the season.
- 33:16He might want to part ways. Maybe Spags takes over for him.
- 33:19Maybe Spags takes over for the New York Giants if he interviews
- 33:22for the job. I don't think that coaching
- 33:24staff is going to be the same. I'm going to tell you this right
- 33:25now. There is no way Matt Nagy is
- 33:28going to be back. There is no way Matt Nagy is
- 33:31going to be back next year after what we watched this past year.
- 33:34The offense is a shell of what it's been over the last couple
- 33:37of years and you can see the difference and, and, and the way
- 33:40this offense is really the concept of this offense has
- 33:43fallen apart. They have no running game.
- 33:45I you could see it. You're you're depending on guys
- 33:48you're bringing Kareem Hunt. You have all these guys and they
- 33:51don't have a a real dominant force when it comes to the
- 33:55running game. And, and honestly, before Rice
- 33:57came back, they didn't have a number one.
- 33:59They're they're going to bet on Worthy.
- 34:01They're going to bet on Hollywood Brown.
- 34:03Both guys. I mean, Hollywood Brown will not
- 34:05be back next year. Do they go after a Tyree kill?
- 34:07They're going to need a playmaker.
- 34:09They don't have as many playmakers like they've had over
- 34:12the years. They're they're betting on
- 34:14Patrick Mahomes, his skill and only his skill.
- 34:17That's the difference this year. Yeah, and that's what I was
- 34:19mentioning. They've been drafting a lot of
- 34:20the wrong things like Travis Kelce is retiring.
- 34:23They're drafting a bunch of these other tight ends.
- 34:24All right, well, then use them more.
- 34:25Noah Gray's a solid option. He played well last year and
- 34:28then they drafted Jared Wiley, good kid out of TCU.
- 34:31Like use them if the receivers are not playing well.
- 34:33Use them if the offensive line isn't playing well to help
- 34:35Patrick, help protect Patrick Mahomes.
- 34:37Fish you talked about all the time.
- 34:38Joan Taylor might be the worst right tackle in football.
- 34:40And then you have Josh Simmons was just banged up on the other
- 34:42side and you just can't trust it.
- 34:44But dear interior, to do everything.
- 34:46And that's where you have to be smarter drafting wise too.
- 34:48And if you're Andy Reed as well, adjusting to those kinds of
- 34:50things offensively, because there were stretches that were
- 34:53their their defense was playing well for much of the year.
- 34:55And then all of a sudden they've just folded because they're
- 34:57they're getting worn out. Chris Jones doesn't all look
- 34:59right. I agree with you on that.
- 35:00He might have the worst year of his career at this rate and just
- 35:04all these injuries that just can't catch up after a while.
- 35:06It's something that you just see happen to great teams.
- 35:10Guys age out, they just go go from being elite players to just
- 35:14good players and that has a huge impact on a team.
- 35:18Look, Spagnola is one of the best defensive coordinators
- 35:21we've ever seen. As the most championships any
- 35:23defensive coordinators ever had as an NFL coach, he's going to
- 35:27be in the Hall of Fame as a defensive coordinator when he
- 35:29hangs it up. He's 65 years old, at least 66
- 35:32next season. Does he come back to the Chiefs
- 35:36at 66? This is going to be his last
- 35:38real shot. Errol to be a head coach, right?
- 35:42You figure from 66 to 70 years old, that's a five year run he
- 35:46can have. It's got, you got to think he
- 35:49wants to do that and then he leaves.
- 35:53Andy Reid's not a defensive coach.
- 35:55They've got a hit on that defensive coordinator and you
- 35:58would assume Spag's taking his Lieutenant with him.
- 36:01He's not going to just let Andy Reid keep him and I would worry
- 36:05about what's this team's going to look like if I'm Travis
- 36:08Kelsey and thinking about coming back and I have my billion
- 36:12dollar wife. He's got his own.
- 36:14I'm sure it's busy. He's got his own clothing line.
- 36:16He's got everything going for. Himself, right?
- 36:18He's making. But you know, like, so if he's
- 36:20not coming back, if he hangs it up, if Spags leaves, Andy Reid's
- 36:25getting up there too. How long does Andy Reid want to
- 36:28keep doing it? We could be talking about, you
- 36:31know, Mahomes. And who's to say that the rehab
- 36:34goes well? You know, we assume it does.
- 36:36But, you know, one out of every five times you get an Odell
- 36:39Beckham knee recovery, you know, where the guy never recovers.
- 36:42He's never the same athlete he was before.
- 36:46And that happens often, you know, and at the positions that
- 36:49we're talking about. We'll talk about Michael Parsons
- 36:51later in the show, but that's not a great spot.
- 36:55You would think a quarterback and recover from it, but the
- 36:57mobility and toughness that Mahomes runs with is so sneaky.
- 37:01It always creeps up on guys and if he can't do some of that
- 37:05dancing, I don't know if he's the same caliber of player.
- 37:08We may have seen his best days already.
- 37:10I don't know. He's still, he's still young and
- 37:13I, I still think he can recreate himself.
- 37:15He's got one of the best arms in the NFL.
- 37:17The guy has the ability to do a lot of different things that
- 37:20other quarterbacks can't do. I've seen him throw the ball
- 37:23behind his back. I've thrown him, I've seen him
- 37:25thrown, throw a ball with his left hand in the Super Bowl to
- 37:28make a play in the open field. I mean, the guy has done amazing
- 37:32things. And I don't know if we've seen
- 37:33the the best of Patrick Mahomes because we've seen Tom Brady
- 37:36come back for the torn ACL and he was even better than he was.
- 37:39So I don't know what Patrick Mahomes is going.
- 37:41To be I mean, that's true, you know, but you know, Brady was
- 37:43like the great pocket passer, right?
- 37:46You know, it's Mahomes isn't exactly a pocket passer.
- 37:48He's not exactly a mobile scrambling quarterback.
- 37:50He's not Lamar Jackson out there doing that type of stuff.
- 37:54But it's it's like you don't ever know how the guys come
- 37:57back. Are they the same player after
- 38:00that knee injury? You know, you really hope he is
- 38:02because he's such a cream talent.
- 38:04He's so much fun to watch. Obviously, the NFL wants him to
- 38:07be there because it make he makes them a lot of money, you
- 38:10know, keeps them winning. So it keeps them relevant and it
- 38:12keeps them making that that money.
- 38:14So now what? Where does the NFL go to if the
- 38:17Chiefs are no longer there? Like who's going to be
- 38:20interesting? They better hope, and maybe they
- 38:22make it so with the referees that no longer have to work for
- 38:24the Chiefs, you know, and make sure that someone marketable
- 38:28wins this Super Bowl. Because if it's someone that
- 38:30isn't marketable, that they're in a little bit of trouble, you
- 38:33know, they got to get lucky in this one.
- 38:35Or maybe not lucky. I don't know about luck.
- 38:37Luck is I know I don't believe in luck.
- 38:40I believe in just pure talent. And Jabba, you know this,
- 38:43you're, you're an ex athlete. You know what it takes to be on
- 38:46top of the world. You know what it takes to be the
- 38:48best. You got to put you got to put
- 38:49the time in. You got to put the work in.
- 38:51And again, Patrick Mahomes has done it year in and year out.
- 38:55So I I absolutely believe if anybody can come back from an
- 38:58injury like this and be as dominant as he as he's been over
- 39:02the last couple years versus Patrick Mahomes, But they
- 39:04absolutely have to make a move in the offseason.
- 39:07They have to make another move to bring in another playmaker
- 39:10because they cannot win with the players in the team they have
- 39:13right now. There's just no way.
