- 0:05Speaker 1: So it turns out after all that it was because
- 0:07Speaker 1: I wasn't wiping my ass properly. Oh hi, So we
- 0:13Speaker 1: never really know how to start the show, So I
- 0:16Speaker 1: figure we're just kind of I should make up a
- 0:18Speaker 1: couple of fake intros. Yeah, like, I'll get. What I'll
- 0:21Speaker 1: do is I'm going to get Chris, a production guy
- 0:24Speaker 1: DJ Davis, to restart the intro again, and imagine we're
- 0:28Speaker 1: just rolling into the show, just having a casual chat.
- 0:36Speaker 1: So then I said, well, if you want that, you're
- 0:39Speaker 1: gonna have to show me your double ds. How about
- 0:47Speaker 1: you do the next intro?
- 0:48Speaker 2: Ye?
- 0:48Speaker 1: All right, DJ Davis, the hit the theme.
- 0:50Speaker 3: Here we go. I don't know what to say.
- 0:57Speaker 1: Oh my god, Oh my god.
- 1:01Speaker 2: We never would really talk in real life unless where
- 1:03Speaker 2: we're here, So that's the confusing bit.
- 1:06Speaker 3: You were good today, Gordon.
- 1:07Speaker 1: Thank you there, Paul. Welcome to the Gordon and Paul Program.
- 1:10Speaker 1: This is especially for our listeners like Daniel, who likes
- 1:14Speaker 1: a moral conservative approach with humor. Thank you, Daniel. We've
- 1:18Speaker 1: taken your feedback on board, even though you're a bit
- 1:22Speaker 1: of a dickhead, and the humor will now be a
- 1:26Speaker 1: subject to more of a nineteen fifties style velveline. You
- 1:31Speaker 1: know what I mean.
- 1:33Speaker 2: Anyway, today we're talking about something interesting because.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Okay, you know what, I'm just going to come out
- 1:38Speaker 1: and say it. Because I got to drive a car,
- 1:41Speaker 1: the very first person in Australia to drive a car,
- 1:43Speaker 1: and Paul didn't. I know.
- 1:45Speaker 2: I'm a little concerned, and then you told me what
- 1:47Speaker 2: it was and then I stopped caring.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Wow, I knew, I say, I knew you would say that.
- 1:51Speaker 1: I knew you would say this, and I knew this
- 1:53Speaker 1: would be the attitude you'd take because you know what,
- 1:57Speaker 1: what did you drive this week? Give me some cool cars?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Give me two or three cool cars that you've driven lately?
- 2:04Speaker 3: Are the BMW I four?
- 2:05Speaker 1: Garbage? Next? What else you got?
- 2:08Speaker 3: The Tesla modor? Why?
- 2:10Speaker 1: Piece of shit? Even though I think I'm getting one?
- 2:12Speaker 1: What else?
- 2:12Speaker 2: The ferrari Enzo? I didn't, but I was curious to
- 2:16Speaker 2: see what that is.
- 2:18Speaker 1: For garbage people? Why don't you have a vape?
- 2:21Speaker 3: I'm still building my.
- 2:22Speaker 1: Dreams, so, yes, you know what, I get to drive
- 2:25Speaker 1: the BYD at three. Yes, Now build your dreams, guys,
- 2:30Speaker 1: build your dreams. It's an suv, right, this is an suv.
- 2:33Speaker 1: So I guess in terms of size it's a medium suv.
- 2:38Speaker 1: In terms of size, I guess it sort of is
- 2:40Speaker 1: in the same sort of realm as maybe a Toyota RAV.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Four YEP c X five.
- 2:46Speaker 1: I wouldn't say it's quite as big as a Junday Tuson,
- 2:48Speaker 1: but its main competitor would be the mg Z S
- 2:53Speaker 1: EV yep yep. Especially in pricing. It's quite affordable.
- 2:57Speaker 2: Well, it starts off forty five thousand dollars right now,
- 3:00Speaker 2: that's cheap an electric suv.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's before you get the rebates with the government rebates.
- 3:06Speaker 1: So dan it I think is about forty four thousand,
- 3:09Speaker 1: or let's say about forty five thousand. Extended range is
- 3:13Speaker 1: roughly about forty seven.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Which is pretty cheap because it goes from fifty hours
- 3:18Speaker 2: to sixty In terms of battery capacity, it is pretty
- 3:22Speaker 2: cheap or affordable.
- 3:24Speaker 1: Sorry, affordable, Paul, I'm just.
- 3:26Speaker 3: Trying to remember what you were told to say here.
- 3:33Speaker 1: It's arguably one of the most affordable EV's on the
- 3:35Speaker 1: road right now, Paul, Thank you, thank you, thank you. Anyway, Yeah, look,
- 3:40Speaker 1: numbers wise zero to one hundred and about seven point three.
- 3:43Speaker 3: It's about the same as an entry level model. Hy. Yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 3: in terms of performance.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Seven you warranty, what have we had for DC charging?
- 3:52Speaker 1: DC charging times are about twenty This is an interesting
- 3:56Speaker 1: one twenty percent to one hundred percent in forty five minutes.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Yeah, So it's a little bit bit of a furfey
- 4:02Speaker 2: because the DC charging goes up to eighty kilowatts, which
- 4:05Speaker 2: is significantly less than most other cars in the segment.
- 4:08Speaker 2: And it's only that fast and inverted Commas fast because
- 4:11Speaker 2: it's a small battery. So if it was a bigger battery,
- 4:13Speaker 2: that DC charging rate would be kind of inadequate.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Still, the range is pretty good.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Well, they're claiming a WLTP range of four hundred and
- 4:23Speaker 2: twenty kilometers. It's not bad, Yeah, which is reasonable, especially
- 4:26Speaker 2: for that price. I mean that's for the long range version,
- 4:29Speaker 2: so that price isn't terrible in terms of in terms
- 4:32Speaker 2: of the range.
- 4:32Speaker 1: I think this standard don't quote me on this, but
- 4:34Speaker 1: I think the standard is roughly three eighty. Have you
- 4:37Speaker 1: got the three twenty three twenty So that's still probably
- 4:41Speaker 1: it's about the same as the MG.
- 4:43Speaker 2: Yeah, in and around the city, that's going to be fine.
- 4:45Speaker 2: For longer road trips, you're going to be need to
- 4:47Speaker 2: be charging more and stuff like that. But I'm curious
- 4:51Speaker 2: what's it like in person, because I've seen pictures and
- 4:54Speaker 2: I know you spoke about how random some of the
- 4:56Speaker 2: stuff was inside the car when you saw it at
- 4:58Speaker 2: your red carpet event.
- 5:01Speaker 3: What did you think I.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Should preference this by saying they're worried that I'm going
- 5:04Speaker 1: to piss off a lot of car journalists, your mates,
- 5:09Speaker 1: So I will say that I obviously I've got a
- 5:12Speaker 1: radio show that gave away a house that also had
- 5:16Speaker 1: this car parked in the garage, right, So there was
- 5:19Speaker 1: a bit of a deal made.
- 5:20Speaker 2: That's a bit of you've got your second car a
- 5:22Speaker 2: bigger pardon, and then you've got this second car.
- 5:24Speaker 1: No, no, this is the car before I've given it away
- 5:27Speaker 1: the house. So I've gotten preference over this competition winner.
- 5:31Speaker 1: But so obviously there was a bit of a relationship there.
- 5:34Speaker 1: So I guess I'm I've got access to it in
- 5:36Speaker 1: conjunction for what I've done in the past.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Yes, And to put into context your access, I haven't
- 5:43Speaker 2: been given access to critically assess the car, which is
- 5:47Speaker 2: a little curious to me because I don't care if
- 5:51Speaker 2: we don't drive it or never drive it. But I
- 5:54Speaker 2: think that before you buy it, I would want to
- 5:57Speaker 2: test it out thoroughly to make sure that it is worthy,
- 6:01Speaker 2: is what.
- 6:01Speaker 3: I'm going to say.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm just getting a message in might ear now.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Yeah sorry, Emperor, Yes, sir, emperor' ze. No worries, okay,
- 6:08Speaker 1: I'll have him executed. No worries. Okay, guys, welcome to
- 6:12Speaker 1: the Gordon program. This is the Drive Show. Paul now
- 6:15Speaker 1: now no longer exist.
- 6:17Speaker 3: All fell down the stairs.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Yeah he disappeared now, but.
- 6:21Speaker 2: In all seriousness, I hope this works.
- 6:22Speaker 1: I sent him to a re education camp.
- 6:25Speaker 2: I have stated previously though that I'm just a little
- 6:27Speaker 2: bit dubious about their plans on rollout. Okay, they claimed
- 6:30Speaker 2: that it would be here already, and so far we've
- 6:32Speaker 2: seen one car which was left hand drive and one
- 6:35Speaker 2: car which was right one drive drive. Yes, we haven't
- 6:38Speaker 2: seen anything else.
- 6:39Speaker 1: So well, look here's what I'm being told. All the
- 6:43Speaker 1: orders will be delivered in July as promised.
- 6:46Speaker 3: Okay, well, July's just around the corner.
- 6:48Speaker 1: The corner we will see yup, So they are on
- 6:51Speaker 1: their way. Look, I think basically a bit of background
- 6:55Speaker 1: for about by ds. They're the highest selling I want
- 6:58Speaker 1: to say car company, and but I think it's the
- 7:00Speaker 1: EV Yeah, EV sector. But they sell obviously a bunch
- 7:04Speaker 1: over there in China, and now they've launched here in Australia.
- 7:07Speaker 1: They claim, I think in by twenty twenty four they're
- 7:09Speaker 1: going to have six different models, including an electric ute.
- 7:13Speaker 1: I don't really know. I think there was a I
- 7:16Speaker 1: think there's a smaller car on the way. Let's call
- 7:19Speaker 1: it an add O two, which will take on the model.
- 7:23Speaker 3: It's called the Dolphin.
- 7:25Speaker 1: No, that's the name of that toy that sits at
- 7:27Speaker 1: the bottom of your bed, under your bottom drawers. I'm
- 7:33Speaker 1: just looking at I'll ask you what are you doing tonight?
- 7:36Speaker 1: And you shadily always say I'm going to Sea World.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Let's just say I'm gonna free Willie.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Well the Dolphin.
- 7:52Speaker 1: Tell me more about your dolphin? Does it talk to
- 7:54Speaker 1: your rabbit?
- 7:54Speaker 3: It's in China. It's badge, does the Dolphin?
- 7:57Speaker 2: And it was previously known as the EA one. Yeah,
- 8:01Speaker 2: so they're saying that that's going to be well under
- 8:04Speaker 2: thirty five thousand dollars.
- 8:05Speaker 1: I guess, going back to your original question, what was
- 8:07Speaker 1: it like in terms of let's start with the interior.
- 8:10Speaker 1: The interior is quirky. It is not that everybody's tastes. Now,
- 8:14Speaker 1: this is what way though?
- 8:15Speaker 3: Why is it quirky?
- 8:16Speaker 1: Here's the thing this and this isn't coming from BYD.
- 8:19Speaker 1: This is coming from other articles I've seen on it,
- 8:22Speaker 1: and I don't know if I believe it, but it
- 8:24Speaker 1: was like, apparently the interior is inspired by health and
- 8:30Speaker 1: music and so yeah, well and again that's that's not
- 8:34Speaker 1: coming from BYD. That's coming from just articles I've read.
- 8:37Speaker 1: So the interior, I guess it kind of looks a bit.
- 8:42Speaker 1: The dash is a bit sort of wavy and textured,
- 8:45Speaker 1: and I guess can look like muscles in the body.
- 8:49Speaker 1: They've got they've got got that.
- 8:51Speaker 3: Stop stop, I'm going to get up and leave it
- 8:54Speaker 3: a minute.
- 8:54Speaker 1: Why it's a fantastic car, Thank you, sir, Thank you much.
- 9:01Speaker 1: It's got the side pockets, for instance, are these giants
- 9:04Speaker 1: sort of red? Like all the side pockets are these
- 9:08Speaker 1: big red strings and they're elastic and they just hold
- 9:13Speaker 1: things in. Have you not seen it?
- 9:16Speaker 2: I've seen the pictures and I just all I've seen
- 9:20Speaker 2: is pictures, and I'm like, I just don't don't.
- 9:22Speaker 1: You think that's fantastic. That is the sort of a tent.
- 9:25Speaker 1: And look, the middle console is the air conditioning is
- 9:30Speaker 1: apparently supposed to resemble dumb bells. Are you looking at
- 9:37Speaker 1: it now?
- 9:38Speaker 3: I am, yes? What do you?
- 9:39Speaker 1: What do you think about it?
- 9:40Speaker 3: I just don't understand.
- 9:41Speaker 2: I understand now when you say all that stuff, but
- 9:44Speaker 2: I still don't understand.
- 9:47Speaker 3: It's just odd to me.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Look, it's not gonna be to everyone's taste, I will say,
- 9:52Speaker 1: and I'm being genuine about this, right, this is not
- 9:54Speaker 1: me ass kissing. I thought it looked terrible in photos,
- 9:57Speaker 1: and when I went to see it, I and especially
- 10:01Speaker 1: when I went to drive it, it's almost like they've
- 10:02Speaker 1: toned it down for a Western market. So it definitely
- 10:06Speaker 1: looks a lot more palatable when you're in the car,
- 10:09Speaker 1: and it actually it's actually quite good. I like a
- 10:12Speaker 1: quirky interior, like it's one thing to get like as
- 10:15Speaker 1: stripped back as a Tesla, but you look at, say,
- 10:18Speaker 1: an interior like a Mini. I love that sort of stuff.
- 10:22Speaker 1: I love the fact that they've kind of gone, let's
- 10:24Speaker 1: just throw everything at it, let's give it a theme,
- 10:27Speaker 1: let's do all that.
- 10:28Speaker 2: Okay, So look, I'm going to reserve judgment until I
- 10:30Speaker 2: see it in person and drive it and all that
- 10:32Speaker 2: sort of stuff.
- 10:34Speaker 3: How does it drive?
- 10:35Speaker 1: Look? It drives great. The interior is actually really comfortable.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It's got pretty much everything you need. I will admit
- 10:41Speaker 1: that the car that I had didn't have Apple Car
- 10:43Speaker 1: Play or Android Auto, but the it will have that,
- 10:47Speaker 1: if that makes sense. So whileless charging, it's got a
- 10:51Speaker 1: fantastic sort of screen in the middle which actually rotates,
- 10:54Speaker 1: which I think was really cool.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Okay, as in when it's done, or to get better perspective.
- 10:58Speaker 1: On it, so you can you can have a sort
- 11:00Speaker 1: of lengthways or landscape.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Oh that's interesting.
- 11:03Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, oh that's interesting. Okay, you can't really
- 11:08Speaker 1: see can you see? Can you see the kind of
- 11:11Speaker 1: the background there? Can you see the dashes a little
- 11:13Speaker 1: bit sort of textured, textured and wavy and all that
- 11:16Speaker 1: sort of stuff, and look a little bit curvy. May
- 11:19Speaker 1: not be to everyone wants powered, but it's not too bad.
- 11:21Speaker 3: When the screen rotates.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Everything else rotates with it with it. So yeah, interesting,
- 11:26Speaker 1: it does Like.
- 11:26Speaker 2: I didn't seen that before. That's that's a that's an innovation.
- 11:29Speaker 1: Oh you're you're happy with that?
- 11:30Speaker 3: Yeah? I think that's reasonable.
- 11:32Speaker 1: Oh, you don't mind it, hang on and Brazil, Yes,
- 11:35Speaker 1: and we've decided to keep him hold your fire, so
- 11:39Speaker 1: let him let him. Yeah, look, just cancel the firing squad.
- 11:42Speaker 1: That's cool. Yeah, look, it's it's it's very cool, and
- 11:45Speaker 1: I think I think it's a good little feature to have.
- 11:48Speaker 1: It's something other guys aren't doing, and it's it's sort
- 11:50Speaker 1: of a no brainer as well. Why isn't Tesla doing that?
- 11:52Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It drives really well, it
- 11:56Speaker 1: handles quite well. This was just city driving as well,
- 11:59Speaker 1: so it's definitely not as harsh as say a Teslap.
- 12:04Speaker 1: But the breaks, look, it claims to have regen breaking,
- 12:08Speaker 1: I personally think they could improve on that.
- 12:11Speaker 2: What was the battery full? What do you mean when
- 12:13Speaker 2: you were doing the regen breaking? Was the battery full
- 12:17Speaker 2: about seventy percent? Okay, because normally the full of the
- 12:19Speaker 2: battery is the less regen breaking it will allow you
- 12:22Speaker 2: to do.
- 12:22Speaker 1: It's just well, yeah, this has two you can two options.
- 12:25Speaker 1: You can have low region or high region. And I
- 12:29Speaker 1: was I like a good strong regent. Yes, this was
- 12:32Speaker 1: very light, but look handles great around town. I think. Look,
- 12:37Speaker 1: I think given the price point and given though let's
- 12:40Speaker 1: say the MG EV. Would you consider that a compliance car?
- 12:45Speaker 2: It is, but they've priced it accordingly. This is front
- 12:48Speaker 2: will drive as well, and I think that if you
- 12:50Speaker 2: compare the two side by side, this looks far more
- 12:53Speaker 2: modern than the MG. The MG is fairly dated now.
- 12:56Speaker 1: And this is also a car that is an EV plan.
- 13:00Speaker 1: It's from the ground up.
- 13:01Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, so yeah, I think I am genuinely looking
- 13:05Speaker 2: forward to driving it. I just find it very odd
- 13:07Speaker 2: the way that they're rolling this thing out, and just
- 13:10Speaker 2: that it's that there's been a lot of talk earlier,
- 13:12Speaker 2: then nothing's happened, and then we're sort of down just waiting,
- 13:15Speaker 2: so we'll see what happens.
- 13:16Speaker 1: I guess, bitchy little thing. Aren't anyone else out there?
- 13:22Speaker 1: Any other car companies that want to give me an
- 13:23Speaker 1: Australian first? I am easily bought. Yes. In all seriousness,
- 13:29Speaker 1: I think, as I said, I think it's an important
- 13:31Speaker 1: car to have. I think it's it's it's healthy to
- 13:33Speaker 1: have competition like this in the market.
- 13:36Speaker 3: Option.
- 13:37Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. The fact that they've put out an affordable
- 13:40Speaker 1: car with pretty much everything you need that would comfortably
- 13:45Speaker 1: fit a family of four for forty five k can
- 13:47Speaker 1: only be a good thing. And one thing I will
- 13:50Speaker 1: say is this car drives very similar to a normal
- 13:55Speaker 1: combustion car in a lot of ways. It has a
- 13:57Speaker 1: very similar feel. So it's a good jump from say,
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know, your normal car into the EV market. It's
- 14:04Speaker 1: not going to just completely scare the pants off you,
- 14:06Speaker 1: like say a Tesla. Well, and I look, I've driven
- 14:09Speaker 1: the the MG and I wasn't one hundred percent into it.
- 14:14Speaker 1: I think drivewise, this has some definite pluses over the MG.
- 14:19Speaker 1: I think, Look, I can't tell you if it's I'm
- 14:22Speaker 1: not sure if it's been like locally tuned and stuff.
- 14:25Speaker 1: I don't think it has. But around town from the
- 14:27Speaker 1: driving that I was doing, it handles fine. I think
- 14:30Speaker 1: they're doing some deal with is it old kmart tire
- 14:36Speaker 1: and order? Yeah, so my car. So I think at
- 14:39Speaker 1: the moment, at the moment, there's like eight locations where
- 14:41Speaker 1: you can pick up your BYD. But that's now just
- 14:44Speaker 1: mind the mile was mind the spare tire? Sorry could
- 14:48Speaker 1: you get that joke out of it?
- 14:50Speaker 2: Right?
- 14:52Speaker 1: Anyway? Look, I know it's early days. I can't wait
- 14:56Speaker 1: to hear your thoughts on this when you eventually jump
- 14:58Speaker 1: in it. If you ever get allowed to, Yeah, I
- 15:01Speaker 1: doubt you will.
- 15:02Speaker 2: Yes, go pick up the car and like you go,
- 15:04Speaker 2: We've prepared your review for you.
- 15:07Speaker 1: That's not true. Generally, at the end of these reviews
- 15:10Speaker 1: we always sort of do like a buy list, flick
- 15:13Speaker 1: it by if you can buy, if you can, I
- 15:15Speaker 1: think it's I think it's definitely one to I think
- 15:17Speaker 1: it's one to put on your list. They're doing exactly
- 15:19Speaker 1: what Polster and say Tesla and all those guys are doing.
- 15:22Speaker 1: You can book a test drive. They're out there right now.
- 15:25Speaker 3: Maybe I'll try that.
- 15:26Speaker 1: What's that? Maybe I'll try Maybe you'll give it a go.
- 15:28Speaker 1: You'll probably get denied. Your internet will probably be shut
- 15:31Speaker 1: down as well. They have lovely showrooms in Darlinghurst. Good So, yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 1: enjoy that. Enjoy finding that out. That was the quickest
- 15:41Speaker 1: car review we've ever done. Anyway, thanks for listening, guys, Actually,
- 15:45Speaker 1: do you know what this car? Also, I will also
- 15:47Speaker 1: say you can talk to it, like I'm not sure
- 15:50Speaker 1: if you can do this with the Tesla, but you
- 15:52Speaker 1: can talk to it, say like Atto three turned the
- 15:55Speaker 1: egg conditioning on, but at the moment it's only in Mandarin.
- 15:59Speaker 1: That's not a joke. I actually I actually check this out.
- 16:02Speaker 1: This is how I got around it. This is how
- 16:03Speaker 1: I got around it, and I'll see if this works. Hey, Siri,
- 16:07Speaker 1: how do you say, at oh three, turn on the
- 16:10Speaker 1: air conditioning in Mandarin?
- 16:12Speaker 3: In Mandarin Chinese?
- 16:14Speaker 2: At three turn on the air conditioning?
- 16:16Speaker 3: Is j senda kai kum?
- 16:18Speaker 2: Shall it?
- 16:20Speaker 3: Actually?
- 16:20Speaker 1: What?
- 16:22Speaker 3: I love that?
- 16:23Speaker 1: That's actually great, isn't it.
- 16:25Speaker 3: It's probably more accurate as well in Mandarin? That is gold.
- 16:31Speaker 1: Anyway, by ado three. Thank you to everyone at that
- 16:36Speaker 1: company that lent me that car. I appreciate it and
- 16:40Speaker 1: I can't wait for Paul to be jumping in his
- 16:42Speaker 1: very soon.
- 16:44Speaker 3: Can News?
- 16:45Speaker 2: Yes?
- 16:46Speaker 1: So do we just start this episode with a car?
- 16:48Speaker 1: It did?
- 16:49Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 16:49Speaker 3: Okay, because you were so eager to get into that,
- 16:51Speaker 3: was I? All right? Suspiciously?
- 16:53Speaker 1: So you know what else I'm eager to get in?
- 16:55Speaker 1: You're made?
- 16:56Speaker 2: How she doing that will have no context?
- 17:00Speaker 3: Do you listen to the next episode?
- 17:01Speaker 1: All right? Can News Ranger raptor they have what's the
- 17:07Speaker 1: term overcook the sausage?
- 17:09Speaker 2: Yes, but it's a delicious sausage and one that I'm
- 17:13Speaker 2: lining up for right now. I'm right at the front
- 17:15Speaker 2: of the queue of the sausage cooker.
- 17:19Speaker 1: I'm going to get just that bit of audio. Can
- 17:22Speaker 1: we play that one more time? But with some sexy
- 17:24Speaker 1: music under it?
- 17:27Speaker 2: But it's a delicious sausage and one that I'm lining up.
- 17:30Speaker 1: For right now.
- 17:31Speaker 2: I'm right at the front of the queue of the
- 17:33Speaker 2: sausage cooker.
- 17:34Speaker 3: Yeah, there it is.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Paul's also available for adult parties and phone chats for
- 17:40Speaker 1: only five a minute. Roll that one more time, please.
- 17:43Speaker 2: But it's a delicious sausage and one that I'm lining
- 17:46Speaker 2: up for right now.
- 17:47Speaker 3: I'm right at the front of the queue of the
- 17:48Speaker 3: sausage cooker. Yeah.
- 17:51Speaker 2: So there have been over four thousand orders for a
- 17:56Speaker 2: Ranger Raptor and there is now twelve month wait. Now,
- 18:00Speaker 2: the interesting thing with Ranger Raptor is this.
- 18:02Speaker 1: Is and you're one of those orders, by the way,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and you're a top of the queue.
- 18:05Speaker 2: It's about one hundred thousand dollars on the road.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 18:08Speaker 2: That is incredible that they've sold over four thousand of
- 18:12Speaker 2: these already before they've even launched, before media has even
- 18:15Speaker 2: spoken about what they drive like. So I find that
- 18:19Speaker 2: absolutely remarkable. The Ranger in general and Everest, they have
- 18:24Speaker 2: nineteen thousand orders plus on those. Yeah, and the wait
- 18:27Speaker 2: time on those has extended to twelve months as well.
- 18:30Speaker 1: So I think what's happened is there's certainly with the
- 18:33Speaker 1: previous models acquired this brand loyalty, and certainly with the
- 18:38Speaker 1: upgrades that this car is now coming out with, I
- 18:41Speaker 1: think people are jumping for it.
- 18:43Speaker 3: Yeah. Absolutely, And I think that.
- 18:46Speaker 2: We ran a story just recently on four dealers and
- 18:49Speaker 2: how some of them are gouging customers because the dealer's
- 18:52Speaker 2: delivery on these used to be nineteen hundred dollars, which
- 18:55Speaker 2: I think is an upper end of dealer delivery, but
- 18:57Speaker 2: it used to be nineteen hundred. So now some dealers
- 19:01Speaker 2: are charging.
- 19:03Speaker 1: Oh Jesus, what did you This is what happens. I
- 19:07Speaker 1: give him a little pack of Allen's Party Mix and
- 19:09Speaker 1: you get.
- 19:11Speaker 3: Did THEYD people give you these? Because I'm starting to
- 19:14Speaker 3: feel sick? Good?
- 19:15Speaker 1: Can you see two versions of me? Excellent? They're kicking in.
- 19:19Speaker 2: So yeah, some dealers have been caught charging up to
- 19:21Speaker 2: six grand for dealer delivery, and Ford's come out instead
- 19:24Speaker 2: of saying no, you're not allowed to do that, they've
- 19:25Speaker 2: come out and said just shop around. I think it's
- 19:28Speaker 2: a bit bullshit because if you if you've been on
- 19:30Speaker 2: a waiting list for six months now and the dealers
- 19:33Speaker 2: finally said, Okay, your car's coming this month. Here's your invoice,
- 19:36Speaker 2: and you look at that and you go six thousand
- 19:39Speaker 2: dollars and then you go, I'll just shop around. It's like, okay,
- 19:42Speaker 2: we'll shop around to my twelve month wait list.
- 19:45Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 19:45Speaker 3: I just think that's a bit of a.
- 19:47Speaker 1: What am I asking? Basically, maybe try and hit up
- 19:49Speaker 1: a regional market and find a canceled order.
- 19:51Speaker 3: Yeah, look, I mean I would.
- 19:53Speaker 2: I would want to support all the regional dealers as
- 19:54Speaker 2: much as you can, so if possible to do shop
- 19:57Speaker 2: around and find a dealer that isn't going to try
- 19:59Speaker 2: and black mail you for your car. And I find
- 20:02Speaker 2: it really disappointing and short sighted by dealers because ultimately,
- 20:06Speaker 2: Ford spends billions of dollars, especially here on Ranger and Everest,
- 20:09Speaker 2: developing this car, creating all the technology it's going to
- 20:12Speaker 2: sit in it, marketing it, getting people excited about it,
- 20:16Speaker 2: and then you go to buy it at the dealer
- 20:17Speaker 2: and the dealer tries to shaft you just because at
- 20:19Speaker 2: the moment there's money.
- 20:20Speaker 1: To be made here they can Yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 2: You are diluting your brand so badly by these dealers
- 20:26Speaker 2: who just don't want to play ball, And I just
- 20:28Speaker 2: think it's so disappointing.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Are we in a market where dealers are making a
- 20:31Speaker 1: shit ton of money. There's a lot of cockiness that
- 20:34Speaker 1: has come out since the pandemic. Obviously, I feel like
- 20:37Speaker 1: we're selling and buying more cars than ever before. Yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 1: there's a way, there's backlogs, and there's transport delays, and
- 20:45Speaker 1: there's a chip shortage and all sorts of stuff going on.
- 20:49Speaker 1: And I don't even think that that chip shortage is
- 20:53Speaker 1: like top of the excuse pile anymore.
- 20:55Speaker 2: Really, Yeah, look at there is. You know, dealers are
- 20:58Speaker 2: making record amounts of money because what's happening now is, yes,
- 21:01Speaker 2: you're doing less volume, but you're not entertaining any haggling.
- 21:05Speaker 2: So when someone comes in, if they don't pay the
- 21:07Speaker 2: sticker price plus you're inflated dealer delivery cost, you just
- 21:10Speaker 2: send it to the next guy and away you go.
- 21:12Speaker 1: So they won't even get off the bloody chair. They'll
- 21:15Speaker 1: just kick back. Yeah.
- 21:16Speaker 2: So I think that ultimately we, you know, customers need
- 21:20Speaker 2: to really be clever with with how they're dealing with
- 21:22Speaker 2: these people and just make sure that you're not getting
- 21:24Speaker 2: ripped off. And if it does mean joining the back
- 21:26Speaker 2: of the queue again, you just got to do it
- 21:28Speaker 2: because you can't justify paying six grand for dealer delivery
- 21:32Speaker 2: on something that's just so artificially inflated.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Huge, Right, we should talk about the BMW wagon or
- 21:37Speaker 1: the Estate car because I love a BMW wagon. I
- 21:40Speaker 1: love a wagon, I love a wagon car.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent. Wagons I think are amazing. And
- 21:45Speaker 2: the BMWN three Touring is basically a wagon version of
- 21:48Speaker 2: the new M three hasn't been fully revealed at the
- 21:52Speaker 2: time of this recording, but it has just set a
- 21:55Speaker 2: time of seven minutes thirty five, which, to put it
- 21:58Speaker 2: into context, is seconds quicker than the last record wagon,
- 22:03Speaker 2: which was the E sixty.
- 22:04Speaker 1: Three, which is do we sort of say, what truck
- 22:06Speaker 1: that was on at.
- 22:07Speaker 2: The Nurburg Green so and the E sixty three is
- 22:10Speaker 2: a twin turbo V eight, you know, I just think
- 22:12Speaker 2: it's it's it's incredible and had to put that into
- 22:16Speaker 2: context as well. It's fifteen seconds slower than the M
- 22:19Speaker 2: four CSL, which wow, just blows me away. So I
- 22:23Speaker 2: think that this is this is really cool stuff. And yeah,
- 22:27Speaker 2: I'm just excited for it. I think it'll be awesome.
- 22:29Speaker 1: When you think about iconic wagon cars, I go BMW
- 22:33Speaker 1: and Audi.
- 22:34Speaker 2: Yeah, so RS six is I think the most iconic
- 22:36Speaker 2: wagon out there. Yeah, the current one twin turbo V eight.
- 22:40Speaker 2: They did a V ten version of the RS six.
- 22:44Speaker 3: I think that was just in the sedan.
- 22:45Speaker 2: I don't think they did a wagon V ten, but yeah,
- 22:49Speaker 2: there's they are just such cool cars. And I don't know,
- 22:53Speaker 2: I just wish that I wish that we would see
- 22:55Speaker 2: more wagons, but with people going down the path of
- 22:59Speaker 2: SUVs and all that sort of stuff, there really is
- 23:00Speaker 2: no you know, no point no vega. They did do
- 23:04Speaker 2: a wagon R six with a V ten so cool.
- 23:06Speaker 3: Love.
- 23:07Speaker 1: Do you ever have a wagon commodore, commodo wagon? No, M,
- 23:12Speaker 1: I can see you in one of those we a
- 23:14Speaker 1: camera or wagon?
- 23:15Speaker 3: Did you?
- 23:16Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 23:17Speaker 3: Not as cool?
- 23:18Speaker 1: What sort of like you'd be like flat top, arm
- 23:21Speaker 1: out the window, pimply looking face. What sort of music
- 23:24Speaker 1: were you listening to? Was it some sort of techno?
- 23:26Speaker 1: Was it some sort of like European deep sort of
- 23:29Speaker 1: Croatian techno?
- 23:30Speaker 2: Yeah, they call it. I think it's called turbo bass
- 23:34Speaker 2: in like Croatian music.
- 23:37Speaker 1: I've been to Croatian clubs before. It's like that, but
- 23:41Speaker 1: it's an interesting experience, very interesting experience, work up with
- 23:45Speaker 1: a lot of vasoline.
- 23:45Speaker 3: On my ass.
- 23:51Speaker 2: Anyway, moving on quite casually, let's talk about these two
- 23:55Speaker 2: random cars that we just spotted.
- 23:57Speaker 1: Oh yeah, so the first one is the City. I
- 24:00Speaker 1: don't even know this is, Yeah, Toyota have dropped it.
- 24:03Speaker 1: I don't even know if this is the name of it.
- 24:05Speaker 1: I guess they call it. It's like an off road
- 24:08Speaker 1: concept ev they I think they call it the compact Cruiser.
- 24:12Speaker 1: Ev I hope that's a floating name, because God, that
- 24:15Speaker 1: would be embarrassing to say.
- 24:16Speaker 2: It's like an FJ cruiser kind of thing.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Compact, a little bit at the air and maybe at
- 24:23Speaker 1: the front up the back. Whose ever job it was
- 24:25Speaker 1: to kind of do the back of this car obviously
- 24:28Speaker 1: knew he was going to be leaving in two weeks
- 24:30Speaker 1: time and just mentally checked out because everything about this
- 24:33Speaker 1: car is great until you get to the ass A
- 24:36Speaker 1: bit like my ex what was his name again, Steven.
- 24:42Speaker 2: This will be fully electric, which kind of bucks the
- 24:45Speaker 2: trend of I.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Think that's what we said at the start of this
- 24:47Speaker 1: piece was it's going to be an v piece of insight.
- 24:50Speaker 2: It's bucking the trend of Toyota, which is famously not
- 24:53Speaker 2: really interested in EV's.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I don't know.
- 24:57Speaker 2: I think the whole thing with off Roader EV's probably
- 24:59Speaker 2: still needs a bit of work, because the last thing
- 25:02Speaker 2: you want to do is run out of.
- 25:03Speaker 3: Electricity in the middle of literally nowhere.
- 25:05Speaker 2: It's not like, you know, a normal car where you
- 25:07Speaker 2: can just get a jerry can and someone can run
- 25:09Speaker 2: something up to you. Yeah, an ev running out of
- 25:11Speaker 2: power in the middle of nowhere. It's kind of a
- 25:13Speaker 2: slightly different story.
- 25:14Speaker 1: The way they're marketing this is very much an outdoorsy
- 25:18Speaker 1: monster energy drink sort of. They've got snowboards on the roof,
- 25:21Speaker 1: They've got they've got a surfboard on one photo like,
- 25:24Speaker 1: take it down the beach, drive it on the beach.
- 25:26Speaker 1: It's sort of I think it looks cool, yeah, but
- 25:29Speaker 1: got that back looks shit. Do you know what I'm
- 25:34Speaker 1: loving about EV's is the wheels. I love how they're doing.
- 25:37Speaker 2: The flat sort of oh, the sort of arrow Yeah,
- 25:39Speaker 2: the air sort of design.
- 25:41Speaker 1: Isn't it crazy to think that that sort of design,
- 25:43Speaker 1: that aero design, that we're seeing in EV's is just
- 25:45Speaker 1: the start of it all.
- 25:47Speaker 2: Yes, it's going to get even more. Yeah, I mean
- 25:49Speaker 2: we're seeing from who is it, Michel and the Tubelus.
- 25:54Speaker 1: Tires EV tires.
- 25:55Speaker 2: No, but Tubelus like they don't they don't have any
- 25:58Speaker 2: air in them. Oh, have little ridges to support it.
- 26:02Speaker 2: And it means that you can drive off road and
- 26:04Speaker 2: not worry about getting a rock through the sidewalk.
- 26:06Speaker 1: Oh that's a great idea.
- 26:07Speaker 2: Yeah, So they'll be interesting for off road driving and
- 26:10Speaker 2: just I guess evs in general. The other one that
- 26:13Speaker 2: we spotted as well was the the Citron my Amy buggy.
- 26:19Speaker 1: You're gonna say the citron Anus. It's Citron my Anus.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Yeah, so fifteen brand. They're only building fifty of them,
- 26:27Speaker 2: and it's it runs on just the tiniest little electric
- 26:31Speaker 2: motor and battery, so six kilots of power.
- 26:33Speaker 1: It looks like the kind of car you'd get. It
- 26:35Speaker 1: runs on Paul sense of self satisfaction.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Top speed of forty five kilometers an hour and a
- 26:41Speaker 2: range of seventy five kilometers, so it's like a little
- 26:44Speaker 2: city buggy.
- 26:45Speaker 3: Fifteen grand. It's so cheap. I'd love to own one
- 26:47Speaker 3: of these, just for fun.
- 26:48Speaker 1: I feel like it's something a posty would get.
- 26:50Speaker 2: Yeah, that's actually not a bad idea for a posty.
- 26:52Speaker 2: So it looks like it accommodates two people, but the
- 26:55Speaker 2: looks of it maybe yeah, two people or something.
- 26:58Speaker 3: So it's fascinating.
- 26:59Speaker 2: So if you head to car expert dot com today
- 27:01Speaker 2: you can see a picture of the Amy.
- 27:05Speaker 1: The Poor Myynus car. Or you could also go to
- 27:09Speaker 1: our own socials if you like, I'll put a picture
- 27:12Speaker 1: up there. Could I'll make it look pretty in canvas?
- 27:14Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 27:17Speaker 1: Oh well, is that a do we just do an episode?
- 27:20Speaker 1: That was a fun show, that was a fast one,
- 27:22Speaker 1: that was a mini At least fifty percent of that
- 27:24Speaker 1: wasn't paid for. That was that was a fun size
- 27:28Speaker 1: EPP A lot like the contents of Paul's Pants.
- 27:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:34Speaker 2: So contact at the Drive show dot com today you
- 27:36Speaker 2: get in touch with us if you want to hear
- 27:38Speaker 2: more about anything. Do you want to see me review
- 27:41Speaker 2: the byd.
- 27:42Speaker 1: At Ho three, Yes, yes I do. I want to
- 27:45Speaker 1: be there with you just so you don't say anything sus.
- 27:48Speaker 3: Yeah that's it. Yeah, repeat that again, just.
- 27:51Speaker 2: With a gun to my head. I think you said
- 27:53Speaker 2: that wrong. Yes, but I am looking forward to driving
- 27:56Speaker 2: it in all honesty, but yeah, we're keen for your feedback.
- 27:59Speaker 3: Are you in.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Support of much cheaper evs like the ATO three? Do
- 28:03Speaker 2: you think that evs are okay in terms of their
- 28:05Speaker 2: pricing at the moment? Contact at the drive show, dot
- 28:08Speaker 2: com today or social media?
- 28:09Speaker 1: Where do you think we are? Do you think we're
- 28:11Speaker 1: in a pretty good place right now with EV's Yeah?
- 28:15Speaker 3: Good ish, good ish?
- 28:17Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 28:17Speaker 3: I mean they're expensive.
- 28:19Speaker 2: The most popular one starts at sixty grand, and I
- 28:21Speaker 2: think that's still expensive for most people. So they do
- 28:24Speaker 2: need to be cheaper, but I think the tech is developing,
- 28:26Speaker 2: and I think until the tech is developed, they are
- 28:29Speaker 2: going to be slightly more expensive.
- 28:32Speaker 1: You were, I would consider you a long time EV
- 28:34Speaker 1: owner out because yes, we've had one for one or
- 28:36Speaker 1: two years yep, and you've sold it. But you would
- 28:39Speaker 1: have known about that car when it was coming, and
- 28:42Speaker 1: what excited you when you saw Tesla on the horizon, I.
- 28:45Speaker 2: Don't know, just because you're a bit of a tech head,
- 28:48Speaker 2: yeah I am. It's more just the tech that I'm
- 28:49Speaker 2: interested in. I just find it great that I have
- 28:51Speaker 2: an app that I can do everything on and not
- 28:53Speaker 2: necessarily have to go fill up fuel and stuff like that.
- 28:56Speaker 2: So that's all handy, but I'm not phased either way.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Didn't go down the path of the evs. We wouldn't
- 29:01Speaker 2: bother me all that much. But it's I just find
- 29:04Speaker 2: them interesting. Yeah, because I'm an engineer. I find the
- 29:07Speaker 2: sort of tech fascinating.
- 29:09Speaker 1: You know, it's not fascinating, you know what is interesting? Though,
- 29:13Speaker 1: you're made.
- 29:16Speaker 3: We could talk about her to call me bad, all right.
- 29:21Speaker 1: Cool, that'll do. That'll do?
- 29:23Speaker 2: Is that all right for that that episode?
- 29:24Speaker 1: Yeah, we've got enough in there. We've got a review,
- 29:26Speaker 1: we've got some news.
- 29:27Speaker 3: Yeah, and leave us are rating please.
- 29:29Speaker 1: Oh we're still on. I checked out, I've got my keys,
- 29:33Speaker 1: My byd is waiting downstairs. I gotta go.
- 29:35Speaker 2: Yes, please leave us a rating on whichever platform you're
- 29:38Speaker 2: listening to this because it will help us grow.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Leave us are rating and a comment is always nice.
- 29:43Speaker 1: I don't read them, but Paul relays them. I'm pretty
- 29:46Speaker 1: sure that he just leave a rating.
