- 1:30SPEAKER_00: Hey family, hey family, hey family.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to another episode of Life Finance and Real Estate with your girl, Kirby the Realtor.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Listen, that is me.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Here we talk about things that affect how we live, how we learn, how we build, and how we sustain it.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Kirby the Realtor, and today I want to talk to you about something that really stayed with me.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: On Monday, I had an opportunity to visit with uh one of my good good buddies, and I call them the uh Cowgirls fan, you know.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: But we were having a conversation about me being away.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: You know, I had recently taken a trip, and um, I had physically left home and work, like, but mentally, I was still carrying everything with me.
- 2:15SPEAKER_00: Like my body was in a different location, but my mind was still working.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: You know, I was laying on the beach, I was trying to soak up the sun.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I got in the water, I tried to like, you know, God you pray and say, Lord, just help me like read all these thoughts and you know, things or whatever.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: I was thinking about the office, I was thinking about transactions, I was thinking about bills and clients and the next problems and you know, next responsibility, and all the things that were waiting for me, right?
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And and my friend said something along the lines, one day it's gonna click.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Location does not determine when you switch, when the switch flips.
- 2:53SPEAKER_00: Because basically, I was telling him I couldn't turn my brain off, right?
- 2:56SPEAKER_00: And he was like, one day you're gonna learn how to flip that switch, and it's not gonna matter where you are, you just you're gonna learn how to flip that switch, y'all.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: And I immediately pulled my notes out and I just wrote it down because it stopped me like in my tracks.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Because so many of us believe that when we finally get away, like we're gonna automatically relax, right?
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: We think the bitch would the the beach will flip the switch, the hotels would flip the switch, the weekends will flip the switch, and a day off will flip the switch.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: But then we arrive, and our mind, like mine, is still back at work, right?
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: Your body can leave the office while your your mind is still sitting right at the desk.
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: You can be looking at beautiful water, y'all.
- 3:37SPEAKER_00: And when I tell you this water was beautiful, I could see my hands and feet when I was in the water, and my family will tell you I don't get in water because I'm like, I need to see.
- 3:48SPEAKER_00: I gotta see, and I feel like it's dirty or whatever.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: But you could be looking at that beautiful water, that sunset, and still mentally be answering emails.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: You could be at dinner with your friends, your family, dancing the night away, and still negotiating a deal in your head.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: You can be laying in your bed with your eyes closed while your brain is holding a full step me.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I'll never forget my daddy used to say, um, he's like, you your brain ain't off.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Easy, you have what we call unaware stress.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Like you're thinking you relax and you thinking you slept, but it your brain is still working.
- 4:25SPEAKER_00: The truth is, y'all, the location may change what is around us, but it doesn't automatically change what is happening within us.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: So today I want to talk about why it can be so hard to turn our brains off, what that cost us, how we can learn to flip that switch without abandoning, you know, people and responsibilities that we care about.
- 4:51SPEAKER_00: So let's start with a question.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: When was the last time your body was resting, but your mind was still working?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna say it one more time because some of you may be working or driving, but when was the last time your body was resting, but your mind was still working?
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: And for responsible people, being mentally owned can start to feel like part of our identity, right?
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: When you are a leader, the owner, the parent, the problem solver, or the person everybody calls, you become very accustomed.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: And I can say this because this is me, you know.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: But we can become so accustomed to anticipating what could go wrong, right?
- 5:34SPEAKER_00: You remember what everybody else forgets.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: You keep the calendars, you watch the money, you answer the phones, you manage different personalities, you make sure all the details come together, right?
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: And over time, our brain learns that being alert is how you keep life under control.
- 5:51SPEAKER_00: And that's why simply changing locations is not enough for some of us.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: The surrounding changes, but the internal assignment does not.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: You may have left that building, and I may have left the country, but you never gave yourself permission to stop managing it.
- 6:10SPEAKER_00: You know, like you left, but you still trying to manage all the things.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we cannot turn it off because we believe that everybody depends on us, right?
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: We're afraid that something will fall apart if we're unavailable.
- 6:23SPEAKER_00: We feel guilty when we're not producing, confused, restless, lazy.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Like we've built systems that require us to remain to answer every question.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: And I'll never forget having a conversation with someone that says, you know, you're not a true business owner until your business can run without you being there.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: So you you when you're building systems as an entrepreneur, you gotta learn not to build those systems where you have to be the one that has to answer every question.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: We're accustomed to like urgency, y'all.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: And and you know, like the hustle and the bustle.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: We're accustomed to that.
- 6:59SPEAKER_00: And that it makes you, I don't know.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: I can't even think about it.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Like that urgency like makes you feel needed.
- 7:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know, something.
- 7:09SPEAKER_00: I can't think of the right word, but it's just important just to understand that not everybody's emergency is your emergency, and that if you want peace, you gotta learn that you can't be everything to everybody.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: You can't be everything to everybody.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: Sometimes peace feels uncomfortable when it's chaotic, like when when chaos becomes normal for you, then you know that there's a problem, right?
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: You've become comfortable with the chaos.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: When the phone is not ringing, we check it.
- 7:40SPEAKER_00: We're checking text messages.
- 7:42SPEAKER_00: When there's no emergency, we start thinking about like what might happen if I do this.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: When we say we want all this peace, but then when it finally gets quiet, we don't always know what to do with it.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: You don't know what to do with yourself.
- 7:57SPEAKER_00: There's there's a difference between being responsible and feeling responsible for everything.
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: There's a difference between being responsible and feeling responsible for everything.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: Being responsible means I handle what belongs to me, right?
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: Feeling responsible for everything means I carry that.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: I carry that what belongs to my staff, my clients, my family, tomorrow.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: And sometimes we be trying to act like God.
- 8:28SPEAKER_00: We be trying to act like we we God or something.
- 8:31SPEAKER_00: Y'all, that ain't literally leadership.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: That is over low.
- 8:35SPEAKER_00: That is overlow.
- 8:38SPEAKER_00: So listen, I want to share a real example of being away, okay?
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: But still checking your phone, right?
- 8:45SPEAKER_00: Thinking through a transaction, solving office issues.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Explain what was happening around you when you were away.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: What was happening inside your mind?
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: Tell me that.
- 8:57SPEAKER_00: What was because I can tell you about me.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I was away, right?
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: And there was an instance where um I thought I had budget for something.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: Y'all know I'm I'm big about talking about budgets, so I try to live what I talk about.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And I had something unexpected pop up.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: So I'm like, okay, well, I knew I had an emergency card to take care of whatever, right?
- 9:21SPEAKER_00: But in my brain, I'm like, I'm here resting.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I got peace.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: I used the card, but guess what I started doing?
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I started thinking in my head, what am I have to sell?
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: What am I have to do to make sure I can pay this back off, right?
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: So I started kind of worrying a little bit.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: I started kind of focusing on, okay, I can't, I need to do this, have this transaction, line this up, line it up.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: When I should have been resting.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And I realized I was waiting for my surroundings to give me something, I didn't give myself.
- 9:52SPEAKER_00: I did not give myself permission to stop.
- 9:55SPEAKER_00: I felt guilty.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: And it never I just never flip the switch, okay?
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: When when you never flip the switch, you're gonna pay for it.
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Even when the work is going well, you're gonna pay for it.
- 10:10SPEAKER_00: There's a cost of carrying work everywhere, y'all.
- 10:14SPEAKER_00: The first cost, and a lot of people, a lot of my business owners, and not even just business owners, but a lot of people can attest to this.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: The first cost is your presence.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: I'll never forget being in some training sessions, and they were like, Look, y'all paid the money to get here, you took the flight, be present, be in the room, right?
- 10:32SPEAKER_00: You may be in that room, but the people we love and we feel um we have feelings for the people that we care about.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: We can love, we can love y'all, but they don't have our attention because it's somewhere else.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: They receive our body, like our physical body.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: They can see us, but our mind is somewhere else.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: We're not engaging in conversation, we're not listening to them.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: And it's it's just not a good feeling.
- 11:00SPEAKER_00: If you've ever been on that side, the business receives our mind.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: The business gets all our attention, but we leave our loved ones hanging.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: The second cost is not having clarity.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: We tell ourselves that constant thinking makes us more productive, right?
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: But a tired mind, now hear me, because I don't think people understand when folks say, you know, I'm tired, I'm just tired, I'm tired.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: A tired mind does not always make better decisions, y'all.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: It's it often makes faster, more emotional, and fearful decisions.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: It stresses you out.
- 11:36SPEAKER_00: The third cost is creativity.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Some of us, some of our best ideas, they don't come while we're forcing an answer.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: They come when we create enough quiet, like a quiet space.
- 11:49SPEAKER_00: For me, y'all, I'ma tell y'all, I have a habit of staying up, everybody's knocked out.
- 11:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm like wide awake, two, three in the morning, just working, and I'm thinking, and I'm just that's when I flow because there's no distractions, right?
- 12:04SPEAKER_00: And that's when I can be the most creative.
- 12:08SPEAKER_00: They come, they come when it's quiet enough for the answers to say, here I am.
- 12:14SPEAKER_00: The fourth cost is your health.
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: When our minds never receive a signal that the danger of urgency is over, our bodies can remain tense even when there's nothing wrong.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Your body is still tense, your body is still like dealing with the trauma, the aftermath of you being so stressful or just jumping up, running to do this, being, you know, being everything to everybody.
- 12:40SPEAKER_00: And that fifth cost is definitely relationships, y'all.
- 12:43SPEAKER_00: The people closest to us should not always have to compete with the next call, notification, deal, or problem.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: And even as a leader, there are times where you know, sometimes there's calls that we have to take, right?
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: But sometimes for me, I know people make fun of me and they'll say, Every time I call you, my phone goes straight to voicemail.
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Let me tell y'all why.
- 13:05SPEAKER_00: It's gonna go to voicemail because a few years ago I found myself, I could literally be in mid-conversation with a client, anyone, and the moment my phone rings, guess where my attention goes?
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: I no longer hear my client, I see their mouth moving, but I'm thinking about who's calling me, what they could possibly want, how how long this person is gonna talk to me in front of me so that I can call this other person back.
- 13:32SPEAKER_00: You know, it costs relationships, people feel that, and there's a financial cost too.
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Exhaustion, y'all.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: It can cause you to make poor financial decisions when you're mentally drained.
- 13:44SPEAKER_00: We may spend, we may spend for comfort, avoid looking at our numbers, make rush um commitments and keep saying yes to these opportunities that are not actually profitable.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: And that word makes me want to.
- 14:03SPEAKER_00: When I told y'all like a few minutes ago that I stayed up to like 3 4 in the morning looking at numbers across all my businesses, and I'm just looking like, am I profitable?
- 14:14SPEAKER_00: Where am I profitable?
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: What do I need?
- 14:16SPEAKER_00: You know, just different things, all the things, y'all.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: There's a financial cost to making hasty decisions and saying what yes to everything.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Remember this.
- 14:27SPEAKER_00: If you don't remember nothing else, being busy does not always mean that you're productive, and revenue does not always mean peace.
- 14:37SPEAKER_00: You can make more money and still have less less life if you never learn how to put the work down.
- 14:45SPEAKER_00: Do you hear me?
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: You can make more money and still have left less life.
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: You can't enjoy life.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: See, in real estate, we often feel as if we must be available every minute because this industry is built on urgency.
- 15:00SPEAKER_00: A client calls, inspection issue, appraisal issue, a lender needs this document.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Y'all, this is this was my day-to-day.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: A deadline is approaching.
- 15:10SPEAKER_00: Another agent wants an answer.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: You know, all the things.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: So some matter truly, some of the matters, they there they may be sensitive, but not everything is an emergency, you know, and I had to learn to tell myself.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the phone may ring, you may can't answer because you're talking to a lender, and just because they, you know, you have to learn to prioritize.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: And my um, one of my mentors, they stay on me so much about making a daily to-do list, and then they'll say, What did you accomplish today?
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: And I be negative sometimes, because hey, listen, I'm honest, right?
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: I'll be like, I ain't do nothing because I had this, I had that, I had this, and I had that, you know, complaining because I feel like sometimes you're just working, working, working, working, and then there's no break, so you really could not do what was on your list.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, what's the point of making this list?
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: You know, when I first started, what what's the point of making it if I ain't get to do nothing on the list?
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: And they'll, you know, make me woo-sah and come back to reality.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: And it was like, what was the most important thing that you've done today?
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: And I was able to, you know, say what that was and look like, okay.
- 16:26SPEAKER_00: So having a list, y'all, is very important.
- 16:28SPEAKER_00: It's very important.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: Um I got off task because I went off kinder here.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: Let's see.
- 16:37SPEAKER_00: Um, rest is not the opposite of responsibility.
- 16:40SPEAKER_00: Rest is a part of responsibility.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: And if I never rest, eventually the people who depend on me will receive a what kind of version of you?
- 16:49SPEAKER_00: A depleted version.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: And y'all, I'm guilty.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: My children and my husband have, you know, they've been victims of that.
- 16:58SPEAKER_00: Victims of me being everything to everybody else.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: And when I get home, it's like I'm just, I'm out.
- 17:05SPEAKER_00: I'm just like, you know, I just need to check out.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: So I've learned to sit in my vehicle and check out in my vehicle because I know when I get in the house, my babies, they want to see mommy, right?
- 17:17SPEAKER_00: They want to tell me all about their day.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: They they want to have mommy in time.
- 17:22SPEAKER_00: And the same with the husband.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: He wants to talk and how is your day?
- 17:26SPEAKER_00: So I sit in my car for a little and maybe 20 minutes, just so I can decompress, right?
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and I I used to notice that my husband would tell the boys because sometimes I would come home and just go to the back porch, and he'll say, Hey, just give your mama a few minutes.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Let her and I appreciate him for that.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: Um, but anyway, so um, let me see.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Ask yourself this.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: What has what has always been what has always been um been costing me?
- 18:04SPEAKER_00: Has it cost me sleep, patience, peace, focus, joy, time with my family, or the ability to enjoy what I worked so hard for?
- 18:16SPEAKER_00: Once we recognize the cost, y'all, the next question becomes how do we actually learn to flip the switch?
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: This is where we gotta get to.
- 18:28SPEAKER_00: The switch does not always flip because the plane landed or the office closed or the vacation begins.
- 18:35SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we have to flip it intentionally.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: Okay, create a shutdown ritual before leaving work or beginning the time off.
- 18:44SPEAKER_00: Write down what was completed, what still needs attention, who is responsible for it, when you will revisit it.
- 18:53SPEAKER_00: Because our minds often keep rehearsing unfinished business because we're afraid we will forget it, right?
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: Writing it down tells the brain this has a place.
- 19:06SPEAKER_00: I don't have to hold it right now, but it has a place.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Today's work is complete.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow's work has a place.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: I've had to learn that over the last few months.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Whatever I did today, it's complete.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: Tomorrow's work has a place.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: I'm allowed to be present now.
- 19:24SPEAKER_00: Decide what actually qualifies as an emergency.
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: If you are a leader or a business owner listening to me, I need you to define if you're not already doing this, define what requires a call while you are away and what can wait.
- 19:38SPEAKER_00: Your team cannot honor a boundary that has never been explained.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: See, sometimes as business owners, we think people know, right?
- 19:47SPEAKER_00: We are expecting.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: I'm one of them people.
- 19:50SPEAKER_00: I I used to think like, you know, they should know.
- 19:53SPEAKER_00: But no, you have to communicate these things.
- 19:57SPEAKER_00: In real estate and emergency might be a same-day contractual deadline, right?
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: Or an issue that can cause material um harm to a client.
- 20:06SPEAKER_00: But a routine question, an update that can be emailed, something scheduled for next week may not need immediate responses.
- 20:14SPEAKER_00: There's a difference.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: So stop making yourself the only doorway.
- 20:18SPEAKER_00: If every question, approval, decision has to pass through you, that business does not depend on your leadership, it depends on your constant availability.
- 20:29SPEAKER_00: And that, my friend, is a what kind of problem?
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: It's a system problem, it's not a vacation problem, it's a system problem.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Let me help some of y'all out.
- 20:41SPEAKER_00: Delegation is not simple, it's not simple like handing someone a task, it's giving them the information, giving them the authority, not just saying, I want you to do this.
- 20:54SPEAKER_00: It's saying, hey, here's the information.
- 20:57SPEAKER_00: You have my permission to do da-da-da-da.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Come you gotta be able to just release and let it go.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Confidence to handle the task without needing needing you every step of the way.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: Like give them relinquish, you know, give your family your best attention and not only what's left.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: We often schedule meetings with clients, but leave our families, y'all.
- 21:20SPEAKER_00: We leave them unprotected.
- 21:22SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 21:25SPEAKER_00: We we leave them unprotected.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: We just we do everything else for everybody else.
- 21:32SPEAKER_00: But the people we love suffer.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: Put rest, dinner, worship, exercise, and time with the people you love on your calendar with the same seriousness as appointments.
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: I know some people say, I remember when I started doing it, and my husband was like, Oh, I gotta be an appointment.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, Yeah, like I need to make sure I pencil in.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: This is lunch with my husband, time with my kids, homework, study, whatever.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: Because if it's on my calendar, I won't put nothing in that spot.
- 21:59SPEAKER_00: And that Helps because y'all, our presence, us being present is one of the most valuable things we can give, and it can't be replaced later with money.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: Yes, money is good.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: Yes, it's good to be able to do for your loved ones and your kids or take them, you know, on trips and buy things for them, but there's nothing like your presence to them.
- 22:23SPEAKER_00: You, them seeing you, them talking to you, them spending time with you.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: If you never put your phone down at home, you will not suddenly become disconnected because you've crossed the state line or you got on the plane.
- 22:36SPEAKER_00: I literally practice when I'm with my family, and I think this may have started five years ago.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: I put my phone in my purse or I turn it face down, right?
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: So if we're out to eat, I'm trying to like be engaged and not in my phone.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Because it used to be a time where I would be at dinner with family, and guess what I'm doing?
- 22:54SPEAKER_00: I'm in my phone and I'm literally working.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: And all you have to do is start with 15 minutes.
- 23:00SPEAKER_00: Start practicing.
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: 15 minutes, then 30.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: Take a walk without answering any messages, right?
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: Eat a meal without the phone beside you, right?
- 23:09SPEAKER_00: Leave it.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: Don't go to bed with the phone beside you.
- 23:12SPEAKER_00: Allow your mind to learn that the world can continue even when you are not monarching it.
- 23:19SPEAKER_00: Okay?
- 23:20SPEAKER_00: Replace mental noise with something restorative.
- 23:23SPEAKER_00: Like turning off work doesn't necessarily mean sitting in silence.
- 23:27SPEAKER_00: It means it may mean praying, worshiping, listening to music, exercising, laughing, just having a conversation, reading, or simply noticing where you are.
- 23:41SPEAKER_00: Do not only think about removing work, but intentionally make room for something that restores you.
- 23:50SPEAKER_00: So listen to my listeners, I want you to take one slow breath.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: Okay, take one slow breath and quietly identify three things around them.
- 24:03SPEAKER_00: Identify three things around yourself.
- 24:05SPEAKER_00: I'm sorry.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: For this moment, you do not have to solve tomorrow.
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: You only have to be here.
- 24:13SPEAKER_00: So say this from this moment, I do not have to solve tomorrow.
- 24:20SPEAKER_00: I only have to be here.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: But for me, this lesson is not only practical, y'all, it's very much so spiritually.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Sometimes our inability to stop is connected to our inability to release what control.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: We say we trust God, right?
- 24:40SPEAKER_00: But we behave as if everything will collapse if we stop holding it together.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: Psalms 46 and 10 says, be still and know that I am God.
- 24:51SPEAKER_00: It does not say be still when every problem has been solved, y'all.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: It tells us that we need to be still and remember who God is.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Remember who's in control, because stillness is not inactivity without purpose, it's a posture of our trust.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: Even Jesus withdrew from the crowds, y'all.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: He stepped away to pray and to be restored.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: And if Jesus could withdraw from people who needed him, why do we believe we must be available to everybody all the time, right?
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: I feel like I couldn't go nowhere because I'm like, this person need me, my kids need me this, and this just I just I ain't God.
- 25:32SPEAKER_00: Rest reminds us that we are human.
- 25:34SPEAKER_00: It also reminds us that we are not God.
- 25:37SPEAKER_00: The the business, true enough, it's important, right?
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: It keeps the bills paid, but it's not our source.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: The transactions.
- 25:46SPEAKER_00: Yes, they're important, right?
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: But it's not who we are, it's not our identity.
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: The money is important, but it cannot buy back every moment that we miss while we're trying to earn it.
- 25:58SPEAKER_00: There are times when faith looks like taking action, y'all.
- 26:01SPEAKER_00: There are also times when faith looks like releasing the outcome, putting down your phone, closing the laptop, and simply just trusting that God can keep working while we rest.
- 26:11SPEAKER_00: Yes, he can.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: If it all falls apart, every time you rest, God may be showing you what needs a system.
- 26:21SPEAKER_00: He may be showing you what things may need boundaries.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: He may be showing you what things may need surrender and what you may need to surrender.
- 26:29SPEAKER_00: So here's my challenge for you this week.
- 26:31SPEAKER_00: Choose one hour, okay?
- 26:34SPEAKER_00: One, one hour, not an entire vacation, just one hour and intentionally flip that switch.
- 26:42SPEAKER_00: Put that phone away, step away from work, be fully present with your family, be fully present with God, or simply just be fully present with yourself because that hour begins.
- 26:56SPEAKER_00: When it begins, before it begins, write down anything your mind is afraid it will forget.
- 27:03SPEAKER_00: Decide what can wait.
- 27:05SPEAKER_00: Then I want you to give yourself permission to be where your feet are.
- 27:10SPEAKER_00: And when your mind starts to tell you that you should be doing something else, remind yourself I do not have to earn rest by reaching the end of my responsibility.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Because guess what?
- 27:22SPEAKER_00: Responsibilities do not end.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: They don't.
- 27:25SPEAKER_00: I have to choose to rest in the middle of a full life.
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: It's a choice.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: You make a choice to rest.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: Location can help create an atmosphere, right?
- 27:35SPEAKER_00: But location does not control the switch.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: Your location.
- 27:40SPEAKER_00: Oh gosh, when they said that to me Monday, y'all, just recently.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Your location does not control the switch.
- 27:48SPEAKER_00: Peace is not a place we finally arrive at.
- 27:51SPEAKER_00: It's something we learn to practice.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Don't work so hard building a life that you never become present enough to live it.
- 27:59SPEAKER_00: My God, I'm preaching to myself.
- 28:02SPEAKER_00: Don't work so hard building a life that you never become present enough to live it.
- 28:08SPEAKER_00: Listen, y'all, I've had y'all long enough.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: This is life, finance, and real estate.
- 28:13SPEAKER_00: With your girl Kirby L.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: Horrell, I am Kirby the realtor.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: And remember, I don't just teach you how to earn it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: I teach you how to what?
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: I teach you how to sustain it.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: And until next time, give yourself permission to be present, permission to rest, and permission to trust that everything does not have to be carried by you.
- 28:32SPEAKER_00: Bye for now.
