- 0:02Speaker 1: Bottle poppin' Friday. Bottle poppin' Friday. We're going to run
- 0:05Speaker 1: through four teams in a minute.
- 0:07Speaker 2: Oh, look at the prop. We've been talking about this
- 0:11Speaker 2: for days, Todd.
- 0:12Speaker 3: What do you think?
- 0:13Speaker 4: Todd, do you remember this?
- 0:14Speaker 3: Oh, yeah, the Ace of Spades.
- 0:17Speaker 1: Is that Ace of Spades?
- 0:18Speaker 4: Any other team give this out to the players of
- 0:21Speaker 4: the game in the playoffs that you ever played on
- 0:23Speaker 4: besides the Yankees?
- 0:24Speaker 3: No, no, no.
- 0:26Speaker 4: So they gave these out. And then the player of
- 0:28Speaker 4: the game to like two or three other guys, they'd
- 0:31Speaker 4: give these out. And then they had a huge one,
- 0:33Speaker 4: the Magnum, when we would clinch. And I think DD
- 0:37Speaker 4: got it in 2017 when we beat the Indians. And
- 0:43Speaker 4: we fly into Houston after that series. We were in
- 0:49Speaker 4: New York. No, I'm sorry. We were in Cleveland. We
- 0:51Speaker 4: fly into Houston. And I was helping one of my teammates.
- 0:54Speaker 4: I'm not going to say who it was. get to
- 0:56Speaker 4: his room because he wasn't going to be able to
- 0:58Speaker 4: get to his room on his own. And he had
- 1:01Speaker 4: a trash bag full of beers, champagne bottles that were unopened.
- 1:07Speaker 4: And we get to his room. He's like, are you
- 1:08Speaker 4: sure this is my room? And I'm like, yes, I
- 1:12Speaker 4: know this is your room. This is what your room
- 1:14Speaker 4: key says. He puts the trash bag down and he's like, here,
- 1:19Speaker 4: I got to give you something on the way out.
- 1:21Speaker 4: He's pulling beers out. I was like, I'm totally fine.
- 1:24Speaker 4: He's like, here, There's this. And I was like, what?
- 1:29Speaker 4: He's like, I wasn't player of the game. You can
- 1:32Speaker 4: have it. You're a player of the game. So from
- 1:36Speaker 4: then on, I still have this. I never opened it.
- 1:40Speaker 4: People got to let me know, like, is this, like,
- 1:43Speaker 4: if I open this, is it still good? Is it
- 1:46Speaker 4: still expensive? Should I get that guy to sign it?
- 1:52Speaker 3: Ooh.
- 1:52Speaker 1: Ooh.
- 1:53Speaker 2: These are all good questions that probably an AI platform
- 1:55Speaker 2: can answer for you, especially on if it's still good.
- 1:58Speaker 1: You can take a picture of it and it can
- 1:59Speaker 1: tell you.
- 2:02Speaker 3: I would have to sign it.
- 2:06Speaker 2: You could still drink it and have it signed. And
- 2:08Speaker 2: then it's just you drank it and it's after the fact.
- 2:10Speaker 2: I mean, it's not like you're putting it on the market.
- 2:12Speaker 1: It's a memento.
- 2:14Speaker 4: No, it's definitely. But it's it's unopened. So I want
- 2:16Speaker 4: it like I'm like, I've always had it. It's a
- 2:18Speaker 4: fun story. It's like I have a bottle of whiskey
- 2:21Speaker 4: that has a snake in it. It's a rattlesnake in it,
- 2:24Speaker 4: and I'm like, it doesn't taste good, but it's a
- 2:28Speaker 4: bottle with a rattlesnake in it that Bobby Dahlbeck bought
- 2:33Speaker 4: for me when we were in Japan.
- 2:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I think you've got to enjoy those.
- 2:37Speaker 2: I'm being told yes and reminded. Champagne doesn't last like that,
- 2:41Speaker 2: so champagne needs to be refrigerated, no?
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah, wine does.
- 2:47Speaker 1: I mean, wine has its expiration, too, I will tell you.
- 2:50Speaker 1: I've cracked open some.
- 2:53Speaker 1: Long ago wine bottles that you look it up and
- 2:55Speaker 1: they're like, actually it passed. It's too late, right? It's
- 2:59Speaker 1: not good anymore. There is some of that. Not all
- 3:01Speaker 1: wine lasts forever. But if you learned something today, then you.
- 3:05Speaker 2: Learned that you should take your drunk friend back to
- 3:09Speaker 2: their room in order to get a souped up gift
- 3:13Speaker 2: because they don't realize what they're giving.
- 3:14Speaker 1: Boom, there it is.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Campaign celebrations can go hard sometimes. And this person... Definitely
- 3:23Speaker 4: went hard. In one of our other celebrations, he was
- 3:26Speaker 4: diving headfirst on the champagne-soaked plastic. It was like a
- 3:32Speaker 4: slip and slide in the locker room. Tremendous. Tremendous.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Can't make this stuff up. That's why we do this show.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Hey, Kratz talking about what he got from the Yankees.
- 3:43Speaker 1: We have a Yankees shirt.
- 3:45Speaker 2: It's our newest on the FoulTerritoryShop.com site.
- 3:48Speaker 1: I'm wearing Friar Territory today, but here. Schlitt talk.
- 3:52Speaker 3: That's good.
- 3:54Speaker 1: Look at the one on the top left.
- 3:55Speaker 2: I mean, they're both great dirty water bottom left, but
- 3:57Speaker 2: top left is the freshest one.
- 4:00Speaker 1: New York Schlitty.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Sarah, you did it. New York Schlitty, like piece of Schlitter. Sarah,
- 4:10Speaker 4: you are, I mean, sigh. Eat my, I don't know.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Kratz is playing off the piece of Schmidt because he
- 4:21Speaker 2: used to be, Teammates with Clark Schmidt, and he had
- 4:24Speaker 2: some fun with that.
- 4:25Speaker 1: But anyway, go look at all of that.
- 4:26Speaker 2: I want to give love before we charge to each
- 4:29Speaker 2: of the teams, and we can just run through it,
- 4:30Speaker 2: that clinched. So White Sox first, Gratz, since they clinched
- 4:35Speaker 2: two minutes before the Cubs, right?
- 4:38Speaker 4: I mean, just a little bit before. Sorry, Cubbies, your
- 4:40Speaker 4: second place in Chicago clinching. 100! 100!
- 4:47Speaker 3: Very cool.
- 4:47Speaker 2: For a first time ever, they clinch on the same
- 4:49Speaker 2: day and they've barely ever even made the playoffs at
- 4:52Speaker 2: the same time. Only three times now, including this year,
- 4:55Speaker 2: the other two years, 2008 and 1906.
- 4:57Speaker 1: A long time ago.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Cubs Todd father Cubs clinch. They party, you know, that clubhouse.
- 5:09Speaker 1: Is really nice to the one that they did like seven,
- 5:12Speaker 1: eight years ago.
- 5:12Speaker 2: And, PCA got to 40-40. There's Craig Council with the speech.
- 5:16Speaker 2: And I saw these.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I watched these.
- 5:18Speaker 2: So we're just going to say what he said. But
- 5:20Speaker 2: he was giving you something like Todd Father. Hey, this
- 5:23Speaker 2: is going to feel good. But every time we do this,
- 5:25Speaker 2: it's going to feel a little bit better. So let's
- 5:27Speaker 2: keep doing it. Guardians celebrating to Todd Father after their
- 5:30Speaker 2: 1-0 win over the Red Sox. And Kratz is wearing
- 5:34Speaker 2: the shirt for Chase DeLauder. But I don't know if
- 5:37Speaker 2: everyone saw the White Sox and the Guardians coming out
- 5:39Speaker 2: of the Central.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Did you?
- 5:43Speaker 4: I think the Guardians had a much better shot.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Yeah, I would say so.
- 5:49Speaker 2: The Padres taking down the Dodgers 4-2. They clinch a
- 5:52Speaker 2: wild card. Shirtless Walker Bueller. He is a professional celebrator.
- 5:57Speaker 2: He's done this a few times. He's got a World
- 5:59Speaker 2: Series ring. Beer pong for the team, or beer bong
- 6:02Speaker 2: for the team picture.
- 6:04Speaker 1: And no shirt.
- 6:05Speaker 3: I love everything about this.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Todd, do you think someone's going to look one day
- 6:10Speaker 2: and be like, Did they pluck a guy out of
- 6:12Speaker 2: the seats and he brought.
- 6:14Speaker 3: His beer bottle?
- 6:15Speaker 1: He doesn't even have a shirt on.
- 6:17Speaker 5: Listen, you celebrate how you can, but be under control,
- 6:20Speaker 5: of course. Make sure they all get rides home. But yeah, listen,
- 6:24Speaker 5: you're going to hang out with the boys there. Enjoy
- 6:27Speaker 5: a great time. And it's a long year. And I
- 6:30Speaker 5: hope people understand how long of a year it is.
- 6:32Speaker 5: Baseball is the longest sport. They play eight months out
- 6:35Speaker 5: of the year, not nine. It is so long and
- 6:39Speaker 5: it's grueling.
- 6:40Speaker 3: And you know what?
- 6:41Speaker 5: You make the playoffs, you deserve to have a really
- 6:44Speaker 5: good time. And I hope they all enjoyed it, which
- 6:46Speaker 5: it seems like they did. It was cool that a
- 6:48Speaker 5: bunch of teams clinched together so you can go back
- 6:52Speaker 5: and forth on your TV screens.
- 6:53Speaker 3: It was pretty nice.
- 6:54Speaker 5: So now there's still a couple more things they got
- 6:57Speaker 5: to figure out, but it's pretty cool to see that
- 6:59Speaker 5: there's still a little bit of meaningful games coming up.
- 7:02Speaker 3: Oh, there are.
- 7:03Speaker 1: I want to do that right now. Let's charge.
- 7:11Speaker 2: Standing by, our reporter live from the state of Pennsylvania,
- 7:14Speaker 2: Eric Kratz, joining us right now. Is Philadelphia, the Phillies, okay?
- 7:19Speaker 2: Because they're up two games over the Diamondbacks. They do
- 7:21Speaker 2: not hold a tiebreaker, so chances are they're in. But
- 7:25Speaker 2: they need to string some wins together here, dude. And
- 7:27Speaker 2: they also might have just lost to Louisa Rice for
- 7:29Speaker 2: some time, which doesn't help.
- 7:33Speaker 4: I don't, I mean, yeah. Are they okay?
- 7:37Speaker 3: No.
- 7:37Speaker 4: Do I think they'll do it? Yeah, I think they're
- 7:41Speaker 4: going to get it done. I think it's... I have
- 7:43Speaker 4: a weird feeling they're not going to get it done,
- 7:45Speaker 4: but that doesn't... I think it's going to be so
- 7:49Speaker 4: tough for them to lose three games and the Diamondbacks
- 7:57Speaker 4: to win all of them.
- 7:58Speaker 1: They don't need that.
- 8:00Speaker 4: I know, I know, but it's going to be one
- 8:03Speaker 4: win for the Phillies and one loss for the Diamondbacks.
- 8:06Speaker 4: I think the Diamondbacks go... go two or three with
- 8:09Speaker 4: the Padres, no matter what. I don't care how drunk
- 8:11Speaker 4: the Padres are or how TBD the pitchers are going
- 8:16Speaker 4: to be. The Diamondbacks are going to have to beat
- 8:20Speaker 4: a division opponent that they're still going to be playing.
- 8:25Speaker 4: The Padres are not going to allow the Cubs to
- 8:28Speaker 4: catch them. They want that one seed so they can
- 8:33Speaker 4: play at home against the Cubs. So I just think
- 8:36Speaker 4: it's going to be a one and a one. And
- 8:38Speaker 4: I think the Phillies will get in, but are they
- 8:40Speaker 4: okay as a team? No, they're not okay as a team.
- 8:44Speaker 4: I don't, I didn't know they were nine and 12
- 8:46Speaker 4: in September, but based on the way, you know, watching
- 8:49Speaker 4: them hit, it just seems like every guy is in
- 8:53Speaker 4: between pitches right now, which is a crazy thing. I
- 8:55Speaker 4: think before last night's double Schwarber was like 11 for
- 8:59Speaker 4: 72 or something going into the game. Like, You just
- 9:03Speaker 4: don't have a lot of things clicking like they were
- 9:05Speaker 4: clicking in August.
- 9:08Speaker 5: And listen, I mean, Scotty, you're a big D-backs fan.
- 9:13Speaker 5: I mean, there's a couple scenarios. So Tampa Bay is
- 9:18Speaker 5: a scrappy team. You never know what can happen there.
- 9:20Speaker 5: I understand they're already in, everything's set, but you still
- 9:23Speaker 5: want to do pretty well. You want to add your
- 9:25Speaker 5: numbers up. Ah, man, would it be... Wouldn't be something
- 9:30Speaker 5: that came down the last game. You know, somebody's got
- 9:33Speaker 5: to win. Somebody's got to lose. I think that'd be
- 9:34Speaker 5: pretty cool. Um, do I think the Phillies will get in?
- 9:37Speaker 3: Yes.
- 9:38Speaker 5: But again, it's not like they're playing some slouch of
- 9:41Speaker 5: a team like this. This is a Tampa Bay team
- 9:43Speaker 5: that wants to be rolling, going into playoff time. They
- 9:47Speaker 5: got to throw their guys too. So they get them
- 9:49Speaker 5: going until they play again. Whoever that might be Yankees,
- 9:53Speaker 5: Red Sox, or, you know, whomever there's an opportunity there too.
- 9:57Speaker 3: But, um, it's going to be.
- 10:01Speaker 5: Very interesting, and I'm very intrigued to see, especially this
- 10:04Speaker 5: game today. Like, this is a big one here for
- 10:06Speaker 5: both of them. You know, if somebody loses, somebody wins,
- 10:09Speaker 5: and now it turns into one game, oh, my. So
- 10:12Speaker 5: then it's a nail-biting time. So pressure's on the Phillies
- 10:15Speaker 5: right now, in my opinion.
- 10:17Speaker 4: Todd said it plenty of times. I don't want that
- 10:19Speaker 4: break because I want to keep hitting. I want to
- 10:21Speaker 4: keep my rhythm as a hitter. So all the hitters
- 10:24Speaker 4: for the Rays are going to play all the way
- 10:26Speaker 4: up until the last day. They're not going to be like, oh,
- 10:29Speaker 4: six innings and dive. Maybe Freddie P won't go to
- 10:32Speaker 4: 110 pitches, but also he may. They may be like, hey,
- 10:36Speaker 4: we want to keep this rolling exactly the way you're going.
- 10:39Speaker 4: But to me, the Diamondbacks, this was brought up in
- 10:43Speaker 4: our production meeting, and it is such a Such a
- 10:47Speaker 4: sad thing that we have to bring up. If Cattell Marte,
- 10:51Speaker 4: who nobody's going to deny, doesn't, like, he changes games.
- 10:56Speaker 4: When he's in the lineup, even though he's having a
- 10:57Speaker 4: down year, he changes games. And he can carry a
- 11:00Speaker 4: team through a long stretch or a short stretch because
- 11:04Speaker 4: of his talent. If Cattell Marte had figured out whatever
- 11:08Speaker 4: the heck was going on with Cattell Marte during that
- 11:11Speaker 4: little stretch where he was out, he was going to play,
- 11:14Speaker 4: was hurt, wasn't hurt, blah, blah, blah. They're two games out.
- 11:19Speaker 4: They're two games out. He could have swung this season
- 11:23Speaker 4: for the Diamondbacks. And you don't think his teammates know that?
- 11:27Speaker 4: They 100% know that.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Remember that first game where he ditched really last minute
- 11:34Speaker 2: and they got pummeled?
- 11:36Speaker 4: Nolan wasn't supposed to play. Nolan was supposed to have
- 11:38Speaker 4: a day off. What did that affect? Now, Nolan's been
- 11:42Speaker 4: absolutely in fuego and carried the team. Him and Gabriel Moreno,
- 11:45Speaker 4: who may win the batting title if he Has a
- 11:47Speaker 4: hot last three games. But, yeah, it affects more than
- 11:50Speaker 4: just him not in the lineup. It affects other dudes, too.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Arenado's on fire right now, too. This is his best
- 11:59Speaker 2: stretch of the year right now, Kratz. Him and Perdomo's
- 12:03Speaker 2: hitting well. The bullpen has been the unsung hero. I mean,
- 12:08Speaker 2: I know in Arizona they're well aware of how good
- 12:11Speaker 2: it's been. this year but nationally nobody goes oh best
- 12:14Speaker 2: bullpens this year you have padres diamondbacks but it is
- 12:17Speaker 2: it's one of the best bullpens in baseball they're the
- 12:19Speaker 2: numbers for nolan arenado in september which hey makes this
- 12:24Speaker 2: look like a really nice acquisition for the diamondbacks a
- 12:27Speaker 2: lot of people are like oh he's toast 351 818
- 12:31Speaker 2: ops over 1120 games for the snakes in september and
- 12:34Speaker 2: overall i don't have the numbers in front of me
- 12:36Speaker 2: but they're Pretty good Kratz this year. Is he the
- 12:39Speaker 2: Nolan Arenado that was the Platinum Glove winner every year? No,
- 12:42Speaker 2: but he's still an above-average defender, and then he's an
- 12:44Speaker 2: above-average offensive player at third base.
- 12:47Speaker 4: He's going to hit another homer this series, and he's
- 12:49Speaker 4: going to get to 30 homers. And people are going
- 12:51Speaker 4: to be like, oh, yeah, all his numbers were Colorado.
- 12:57Speaker 4: I mean, you're talking about a guy that was in St.
- 12:59Speaker 4: Louis when he first got there and was an MVP candidate.
- 13:04Speaker 4: He got beat by his teammate, Paul Goldschmidt. This guy
- 13:09Speaker 4: proved he still has it. He still has it. And
- 13:13Speaker 4: the Diamondbacks got an absolute steal from somebody that, you
- 13:18Speaker 4: know what? I think a lot of other teams would
- 13:20Speaker 4: have loved to have him. How about those numbers in
- 13:22Speaker 4: the Phillies lineup? If they had moved Boehm to first
- 13:26Speaker 4: and Harper back out to right. How about those numbers
- 13:28Speaker 4: in Seattle? How about those numbers? Like, there's a lot
- 13:32Speaker 4: of teams that could have used this. Also, in a suppressed,
- 13:37Speaker 4: offensively suppressed situation, Chase Field. It's not the same Chase
- 13:41Speaker 4: Field as it was before. The humidor is working in Arizona.
- 13:47Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, listen, a third baseman, man of the
- 13:49Speaker 5: trade over there. I love every second of what he's doing.
- 13:54Speaker 5: People were talking about him being like, ah, man, it's
- 13:57Speaker 5: kind of over with a little bit. But he came
- 13:59Speaker 5: out guns a blazing here and he's trying to finish strong. And,
- 14:02Speaker 5: you know, that's ultimately what you want to do at
- 14:05Speaker 5: the end of the year is finish strong.
- 14:08Speaker 3: Easier said than done, knowing that, you know.
- 14:10Speaker 5: 90% right now, you're probably not making a playoff push,
- 14:15Speaker 5: but it's very hard to do. And for a guy
- 14:19Speaker 5: at his age and what he's done and accomplished, you know,
- 14:24Speaker 5: I clap for you, man.
- 14:25Speaker 3: It's so cool, man. Good for you. And you got
- 14:27Speaker 3: more years ahead of you. Why not? Keep this going.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Keep this push going for him. It's exciting to watch. Yeah.
- 14:34Speaker 2: Brandon Fott, Corbin Burns, Mike Soroka starting this weekend for
- 14:39Speaker 2: the Diamondbacks against the Padres.
- 14:40Speaker 1: We'll see how that runs.
- 14:43Speaker 4: That's perfect for them. That's their best.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
- 14:46Speaker 4: We'll see how it runs. And they'll be out by
- 14:49Speaker 4: the fourth or fifth inning. And the boys are just
- 14:51Speaker 4: going to come running out of the bullpen.
- 14:55Speaker 2: They're managing the game, Troy Labello, playoffs, right? So it's
- 15:00Speaker 2: a three-game series playoffs that you have to sweep. The
- 15:03Speaker 2: Padres are not doing that. They can't do that. They're
- 15:08Speaker 2: going to play their guys for the most part. Although
- 15:10Speaker 2: I would say at least a sit for some of
- 15:14Speaker 2: the stars or at least some of the stars might
- 15:15Speaker 2: get a sit.
- 15:16Speaker 1: No today. Yeah.
- 15:18Speaker 4: I think the way they do it, I think, I
- 15:20Speaker 4: think Manny Tatis based on the videos, I'm sure he
- 15:23Speaker 4: went pretty hard. If he didn't like, they got some,
- 15:26Speaker 4: they got some pretty special videos of him, but, I
- 15:30Speaker 4: think those guys, I think Xander sits. Here's where I
- 15:33Speaker 4: think it'll get interesting, and we won't have a show,
- 15:35Speaker 4: but it'll be really interesting. Because of the fact that
- 15:38Speaker 4: there is no way they throw Morihone, Suarez, Miller on Sunday.
- 15:46Speaker 4: So if the Phillies go lose-lose and the Diamondbacks go
- 15:52Speaker 4: win-win Sunday, the Padres, I'm not saying they're cashing the
- 15:56Speaker 4: game in. They're going to definitely try. There is no
- 16:00Speaker 4: way the Padres are going to run out dudes that
- 16:03Speaker 4: have a chance of not having that two days off.
- 16:07Speaker 4: Unless Mason Miller goes, you know what, I don't want
- 16:11Speaker 4: two days off. I just want that one day off
- 16:13Speaker 4: before I throw two innings on three days in a
- 16:16Speaker 4: row in the wild card. I just think if it's
- 16:20Speaker 4: not done by Sunday, the Phillies might be cooked. Wow.
- 16:27Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:28Speaker 2: I root for chaos, Todd. So I'm into it. We
- 16:31Speaker 2: have a show that covers this. They'll probably be on frequently.
- 16:33Speaker 2: They were on last night, snakes territory. So if you're
- 16:36Speaker 2: up late, you're watching, then you want to hear more afterward.
- 16:40Speaker 2: They have you covered Jesse and Jack bringing it all year.
- 16:44Speaker 2: Many live postgame shows too, with those two after Diamondbacks games.
- 16:49Speaker 2: These are the biggest games of the year. Some are
- 16:51Speaker 2: surprised they're still in this.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Like Todd mentioned, I like Arizona, I've liked them all year.
- 16:55Speaker 2: And yeah, maybe the Marte news and a couple other
- 16:57Speaker 2: things held them just a game or two back.
- 16:59Speaker 1: But we'll see what happens. All right.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Let's get SeatGeek rolling here with what kind of game
- 17:09Speaker 2: we would like to attend over the next few days.
- 17:12Speaker 2: So we talked about one just now in the Padres
- 17:16Speaker 2: and Diamondbacks. What else do we want to see? We
- 17:18Speaker 2: don't have an AL Central winner yet.
- 17:23Speaker 3: No, we don't.
- 17:25Speaker 4: I gotta watch the guardians. You can't not watch the
- 17:28Speaker 4: guardians right now. Like, I think, I think they're the
- 17:31Speaker 4: better team. I think they're the team that will do
- 17:34Speaker 4: the most damage in the playoffs, but think about it.
- 17:38Speaker 4: They get to set the rotation because they get the buy.
- 17:43Speaker 3: I mean, Cubs Red Sox too. Why not? Listen, I.
- 17:52Speaker 4: Don't want an umbrella.
- 17:54Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 17:56Speaker 5: But I think it's going later, later. But for me,
- 18:02Speaker 5: I would– both teams are potential playoffs, one of them
- 18:06Speaker 5: at least for sure.
- 18:08Speaker 4: That's what Seeky's great for because they move that game
- 18:11Speaker 4: down to Tampa. Who has tickets to– who has tickets
- 18:14Speaker 4: to Tampa? Nobody has it except for– Bada bing, Territory 10,
- 18:20Speaker 4: get your 10% off. If you're in the St. Pete area,
- 18:23Speaker 4: you're going down to watch two teams that you don't
- 18:26Speaker 4: get to normally watch. And you know what? The game
- 18:29Speaker 4: will matter.
- 18:32Speaker 2: The White Sox and Guardians have an interesting weekend. How
- 18:37Speaker 2: much do you push?
- 18:39Speaker 3: Because....
- 18:41Speaker 2: Sweeping a series could end up being almost like you
- 18:44Speaker 2: sweep a playoff series that gives you a series off, if.
- 18:47Speaker 1: That makes sense, right?
- 18:48Speaker 2: You could look at it that way, where you're like, well,
- 18:52Speaker 2: if we take the division, then we automatically skip a round.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Hello.
- 18:58Speaker 4: I have this exact scenario. In 2018, Jolis Chassin threw
- 19:05Speaker 4: on three days rest. Jolis Chassin was our best pitcher
- 19:09Speaker 4: at the time. Because we had Big Wu in the pen,
- 19:13Speaker 4: Corbin Burns in the pen. He was our best pitcher.
- 19:15Speaker 4: He threw in three days rest to face the Cubs
- 19:19Speaker 4: in Chicago for game 163. We lose that game. The
- 19:25Speaker 4: Rockies have to come to us to play the one-game
- 19:29Speaker 4: wildcard when it wasn't a three-game series. We win that game.
- 19:33Speaker 4: We get to watch the one-game wildcard and go directly
- 19:36Speaker 4: to the NLDS, which was started by... Game two, Jolese Chassin.
- 19:42Speaker 4: So you set yourself up to win that game 100
- 19:45Speaker 4: times out of 100 because that break is... so worth it.
- 19:51Speaker 4: You have to trust that whoever you used, if you
- 19:54Speaker 4: didn't win, can still come back at the end of
- 19:57Speaker 4: the wildcard series or the next guy in line can
- 20:00Speaker 4: win game one for you.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Right. The games are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday.
- 20:05Speaker 2: If you're looking to purchase for the wildcard round, although
- 20:08Speaker 2: we still got to see Who's doing what?
- 20:12Speaker 1: Right?
- 20:13Speaker 3: Yep. Still up in the air. Yeah.
- 20:17Speaker 1: Well, we know the Braves are hosting. If you're in Atlanta,
- 20:19Speaker 1: you're good. You can get a ticket.
- 20:21Speaker 2: You're going to watch playoff baseball on at least Tuesday
- 20:24Speaker 2: and Wednesday this week.
- 20:26Speaker 3: The Yankees are hosting too.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 20:30Speaker 2: And this just happened, right? The Brewers, I think it
- 20:32Speaker 2: was yesterday because they hit win number 100. They just
- 20:34Speaker 2: hit their clinch for the bye.
- 20:38Speaker 1: Not the bye, sorry.
- 20:38Speaker 2: The number one overall seed. And then the Dodgers hit
- 20:40Speaker 2: their clinch for the bye. So that's all done.
- 20:44Speaker 4: That's done. Todd said the Yankees are hosting the Red Sox.
- 20:48Speaker 4: That's done. I'm telling you. San Diego, that place might
- 20:53Speaker 4: crumble if they're hosting a three-game series. That place is
- 20:56Speaker 4: just going to rock. I said it before. I said,
- 20:59Speaker 4: you don't want to go out there and play. I mean, listen.
- 21:01Speaker 3: That's what it's looking like.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Padres played in Chicago last year, I think it was.
- 21:07Speaker 5: It's a big-time advantage. I'm telling you right now, it's
- 21:10Speaker 5: a huge advantage. Both those teams are going to have
- 21:12Speaker 5: to go out west, one of them at least.
- 21:15Speaker 4: But all the scenarios we talked about before, the fact
- 21:19Speaker 4: that if the Diamondbacks are winning, they're winning all those games,
- 21:24Speaker 4: the Padres could drop lower and the Cubs could host.
- 21:29Speaker 4: And Wrigley, it's starting to get cold. I'm just saying
- 21:32Speaker 4: when it's cold and Wrigley, good things happen.
- 21:38Speaker 1: True.
- 21:38Speaker 3: All right.
- 21:38Speaker 2: So plenty to get excited about whether it's this weekend
- 21:42Speaker 2: or come post season time territory, 10, 10% off tickets.
- 21:46Speaker 2: It could be MLB tickets. It actually could be football concerts,
- 21:50Speaker 2: whatever we know. We know there are people watching that
- 21:52Speaker 2: are in cities where playoff baseball ain't happening.
- 21:55Speaker 1: So it's okay.
- 21:58Speaker 2: Use the little link in the description of this episode.
- 22:01Speaker 2: You can click into that. You can save that code
- 22:03Speaker 2: if you want it for next week when you're looking
- 22:04Speaker 2: at playoff tickets. SeatGeek is the official ticket marketplace of
- 22:08Speaker 2: Major League Baseball. Anything you can do, I can do
- 22:20Speaker 2: the same. Yeah, that's me singing. The Rangers beat the
- 22:24Speaker 2: Mets 3-1, and then the Astros were like, cool. You
- 22:27Speaker 2: know this rookie we have, Lucas Spence? he's never hit
- 22:31Speaker 2: a home run yet. Oh, and he's going to hit three.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Now that's happened three times in history. The other, one
- 22:35Speaker 2: of the other times was this year, Joshua Baez, Sebi
- 22:38Speaker 2: Zavala did it in 2021, three times ever that a
- 22:41Speaker 2: player has hit his first three home runs in the
- 22:44Speaker 2: same game.
- 22:44Speaker 1: Sarah Lang's the great did the research. I mean, crats ridiculous.
- 22:50Speaker 1: That's why the sport's cool.
- 22:51Speaker 2: You just don't see that in other sports where all
- 22:53Speaker 2: of a sudden the dude completely rescues a team and
- 22:56Speaker 2: could be salvaging their season. If the Astros lose, they
- 22:59Speaker 2: are not in the driver's seat. It's a game they
- 23:01Speaker 2: need to win against the A's yesterday, and they do it.
- 23:06Speaker 4: The closest is what Jeremy Lin did when he just
- 23:09Speaker 4: popped on the scene for the Knicks back in the day.
- 23:11Speaker 4: Kids need to look it up. But Lucas Spence was
- 23:15Speaker 4: at Stay Hot Camp. I think they're in Sugarland, if
- 23:20Speaker 4: I'm not mistaken. I think AAA is Sugarland. But if
- 23:25Speaker 4: it's not, tell me. to come up and have three homers,
- 23:30Speaker 4: and they needed all of them except for the last one,
- 23:33Speaker 4: but it was go-ahead homers, game-tying homers. Now, it wasn't
- 23:39Speaker 4: his first three at-bats, like Baez did it earlier this year,
- 23:42Speaker 4: but oh my gosh. That's the kind of stuff you
- 23:47Speaker 4: automatically go into Houston lore if this team is able
- 23:51Speaker 4: to push and make a deep run in the playoffs.
- 23:56Speaker 3: I mean, listen.
- 23:58Speaker 5: I was kind of tracking this one a little bit
- 24:00Speaker 5: as I was driving home late night last night, up 3-0,
- 24:05Speaker 5: and then all of a sudden down 4-3.
- 24:07Speaker 3: I'm like, oh, no, here we go. And then they
- 24:09Speaker 3: just kept pushing. Tie. Another home run. Another home run.
- 24:13Speaker 5: It was an incredible– honestly, I didn't get to see
- 24:16Speaker 5: the game personally live, but watching the box scores and
- 24:19Speaker 5: stuff like that, truly remarkable. I mean, people on the
- 24:23Speaker 5: East Coast probably didn't really watch this game, but this
- 24:25Speaker 5: was an absolute monster of a game for the Astros.
- 24:29Speaker 5: With three left, this was a big-time win for them,
- 24:32Speaker 5: knowing that the Rangers did win.
- 24:36Speaker 3: What do we have?
- 24:37Speaker 1: What are we thinking this weekend?
- 24:41Speaker 4: I already gave them.
- 24:43Speaker 3: I already gave mine. I think the Astros get in.
- 24:47Speaker 4: Because of that tiebreaker, that's huge. The Astros have to go.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I don't like the tiebreaker at all.
- 24:53Speaker 4: Thank you, Todd.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Do you agree with me? I think they should have
- 24:56Speaker 5: a one-game playoff. But here's on the other side. I'm
- 25:00Speaker 5: not trying to dive deep in this. You're playing 162 games.
- 25:04Speaker 5: You shouldn't be crying wolf if there is a tiebreaker.
- 25:06Speaker 5: And I get that. But wasn't there back in the
- 25:10Speaker 5: day where if they were tied, you'd have to play
- 25:11Speaker 5: a one-game playoff, right?
- 25:13Speaker 3: Wasn't there?
- 25:14Speaker 4: Oh, my gosh, yes. I played in a one-game, 163.
- 25:18Speaker 4: And they're like, we don't want to have an off-day game.
- 25:22Speaker 4: You don't want to have a game where– remember back
- 25:24Speaker 4: in 18? It was the Rockies and Dodgers. Had to
- 25:27Speaker 4: play a 163 for the division. And the Brewers and
- 25:32Speaker 4: Cubs had to play a 163 for a division. All
- 25:35Speaker 4: four teams were going to be in the playoffs. Cubs lost.
- 25:38Speaker 4: Rockies lost. They played in Wrigley. Man, I forget the
- 25:42Speaker 4: backup catcher's name that hung around for a little bit
- 25:46Speaker 4: that got the hit for the Rockies to send the
- 25:49Speaker 4: Cubs home then the next day. Like, it was... Yeah,
- 25:53Speaker 4: it was a.
- 25:56Speaker 4: It was electric for me because I remember both games
- 25:59Speaker 4: being on around the same time. Like, for baseball, this
- 26:03Speaker 4: would be tremendous. They might not remember it in 10 years,
- 26:06Speaker 4: but in the moment, it was a ruckus, ruckus crowd
- 26:10Speaker 4: in Wrigley when we had to go down to Wrigley.
- 26:14Speaker 3: It was cool. Yeah.
- 26:17Speaker 4: Houston and the Rangers, think about that. All the eyes,
- 26:21Speaker 4: the eyes of Texas are upon us. Like, come on. Like,
- 26:23Speaker 4: that would be.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Epic.
- 26:26Speaker 4: But for the Astros to go 1-3 and the Rangers
- 26:30Speaker 4: to go 2-3 in the last... That's what has to happen, essentially.
- 26:35Speaker 4: Neither team's going to sweep. I don't think either team's
- 26:38Speaker 4: going to sweep. What did I say? I'm saying one
- 26:42Speaker 4: win out of three for the Astros. Two out of
- 26:46Speaker 4: three for the Rangers. So they go 2-1. Astros go 1-2.
- 26:51Speaker 4: That's the only way... That's why I think the Rangers
- 26:53Speaker 4: don't get it.
- 26:54Speaker 1: But Yeah, they're a game back with three to play. Right.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I mean, think about it. They're a game back, three
- 26:59Speaker 2: to play. The Astros were able to take it to
- 27:02Speaker 2: the A's yesterday in Sacramento. The Sacramento A's have terrible pitching, right?
- 27:09Speaker 2: They rank towards the bottom in that category. They've neglected it.
- 27:12Speaker 2: The Rangers are playing a twins team that, Todd, is
- 27:16Speaker 2: not that bad.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Are they great?
- 27:18Speaker 3: No.
- 27:18Speaker 1: Have they been bad the last couple months?
- 27:20Speaker 3: Yes. Yeah.
- 27:22Speaker 2: They are a better team than the A's. just looking
- 27:25Speaker 2: at your opponent and the Rangers are in Minnesota too.
- 27:29Speaker 2: I mean, they're both on the road. I favor the
- 27:31Speaker 2: Astros here with one game in hand.
- 27:37Speaker 3: Yeah. Since they have the tiebreaker for sure. All right.
- 27:43Speaker 1: Let's take a break. We'll be right back. Oh, after
- 27:51Speaker 1: we tell you about crushing the territory, subscribe to it.
- 27:54Speaker 2: Chandler Rome, Josh Reddick, Tyler Stafford, all over what's going
- 27:57Speaker 2: on right now with the Strohs. Oh yeah, all smiles
- 28:09Speaker 2: presented by Lorraine Co. It's the Chicago White Sox.
- 28:14Speaker 4: You guys believed this was going to happen, and you
- 28:16Speaker 4: did it in a special way. You made it happen.
- 28:18Speaker 3: You did it in a special way. All right?
- 28:20Speaker 4: So thank you for everything that you guys have done.
- 28:22Speaker 1: You players, it's incredible.
- 28:23Speaker 2: All right?
- 28:24Speaker 4: Now listen. We do not stop. We do not stop.
- 28:28Speaker 4: The division is very much in play here.
- 28:30Speaker 3: All right?
- 28:30Speaker 4: So we do not stop. So tomorrow, we lock it
- 28:33Speaker 4: the f * * * back in. But tonight, we're
- 28:35Speaker 4: popping fun.
- 28:35Speaker 5: Yeah!
- 28:42Speaker 3: I mean, yeah, it's incredible.
- 28:50Speaker 4: We're not going to stop. This is only the beginning.
- 28:53Speaker 4: We plan on going deep.
- 28:55Speaker 1: All right, listen, I'm going to let.
- 28:57Speaker 4: You get back.
- 28:57Speaker 3: I think you're missing the conga line here.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Guys, I'll go find some more people.
- 29:01Speaker 3: I might join the conga line.
- 29:02Speaker 1: I'll get back to you in a minute.
- 29:03Speaker 3: Rated on a scale of 1 to 10, how's.
- 29:05Speaker 1: It going so far?
- 29:06Speaker 4: 100. No 10.
- 29:10Speaker 3: 100. Yeah.
- 29:11Speaker 1: How many champagne bottles have you opened so far? 100.
- 29:17Speaker 2: Just what does it mean just to be able to
- 29:19Speaker 2: celebrate with this team?
- 29:20Speaker 3: I love Murakami.
- 29:38Speaker 1: I love Murakami. He is a gem.
- 29:42Speaker 2: He's such a happy guy. He's been like this too,
- 29:45Speaker 2: Todd father. He was, you know, like he's cracking jokes
- 29:50Speaker 2: from the jump, right?
- 29:51Speaker 1: First interview. He was bringing it show to him and Naga.
- 29:54Speaker 1: Cause you know, there's some guys when you're.
- 29:55Speaker 2: Coming from, japan you're kind of feeling things out or
- 29:59Speaker 2: or you know otani's a little bit more serious he
- 30:01Speaker 2: has fun in the dugout but he's not cracking jokes
- 30:02Speaker 2: with the media that much um imanago was doing this
- 30:06Speaker 2: for the jump and and i think he wanted everyone
- 30:08Speaker 2: to know like come to me if you want to
- 30:09Speaker 2: have a good time murakami is the same way here
- 30:12Speaker 2: todd like he has been comfortable from the jump If anything,
- 30:16Speaker 2: the league made some adjustments and he's definitely had some
- 30:19Speaker 2: swing and miss issues and all that. But like he
- 30:21Speaker 2: was comfortable almost right away. He was on fire in
- 30:24Speaker 2: the bigs at the plate too. Like he's just one
- 30:26Speaker 2: of those guys that is really mixed in quickly with
- 30:30Speaker 2: the big league club.
- 30:31Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you said it best too. Like, listen,
- 30:34Speaker 5: you're coming home from Japan. You don't know what to expect.
- 30:37Speaker 5: Some guys are homesick. Some guys are finding their way.
- 30:40Speaker 5: It seems like on the surface right here watching him,
- 30:43Speaker 5: he's having such a blast.
- 30:45Speaker 3: He picked the right team.
- 30:47Speaker 5: And, you know, what he's doing over there and what
- 30:50Speaker 5: this team is doing, you cannot be any more excited
- 30:54Speaker 5: for this team to go out and try and dominate
- 30:56Speaker 5: a playoff push.
- 30:57Speaker 3: You never know what can happen, too. I mean, listen,
- 30:59Speaker 3: 33 home runs for this guy. I said 40. Remember
- 31:02Speaker 3: we had a little argument?
- 31:04Speaker 5: If he didn't get hurt, he might have been up there–
- 31:08Speaker 5: in that 40 range, but the dude is an absolute stud.
- 31:11Speaker 5: He's got a great swing. Yeah, they're swinging this stuff,
- 31:14Speaker 5: but don't we all have it now? Or at least
- 31:18Speaker 5: a lot of guys do. So he's going to be
- 31:22Speaker 5: a really good baseball player in the major leagues for
- 31:25Speaker 5: a good amount of time if he can stay healthy.
- 31:28Speaker 5: And I think he fits right in with this White
- 31:29Speaker 5: Sox team. And if I was a White Sox, I'd
- 31:31Speaker 5: be starting to talk about clamming him down for a
- 31:33Speaker 5: couple more years after this.
- 31:35Speaker 3: I know he has one more year, I think, right?
- 31:36Speaker 3: He signed a two-year deal.
- 31:39Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, probably one of the better value deals
- 31:43Speaker 4: that anybody signed. I mean, you're going to look at
- 31:46Speaker 4: the 202 average and the 192 strikeouts and go, oh,
- 31:50Speaker 4: that's not good. Like, pump the brakes. The dude almost
- 31:53Speaker 4: had 100 walks in his first year in the show. Like,
- 31:57Speaker 4: 100 walks. Essentially, when you have a 348 on-base percentage
- 32:02Speaker 4: and your batting average is 204, that means the league
- 32:06Speaker 4: is afraid of you. So, yes, he didn't hit the
- 32:08Speaker 4: 40 homers because he was hurt. He can get to
- 32:12Speaker 4: 40 homers. Like, you stay healthy, he gets to 40 homers.
- 32:16Speaker 4: He's going to strike out over 200 times, but when
- 32:18Speaker 4: you walk 100 times, you are instilling fear in big
- 32:22Speaker 4: league pitchers because they're like, do not miss over the
- 32:25Speaker 4: plate here. So they start nibbling, and he did a
- 32:28Speaker 4: good job of getting on base for this team. My
- 32:31Speaker 4: comment about this whole celebration that we just watched, everything there,
- 32:35Speaker 4: Very little playoff experience. Ben Attendee has some playoff experience. Vargas,
- 32:40Speaker 4: I think, was up for a little bit. Whether he
- 32:43Speaker 4: was around with the Dodgers when they were doing their stuff,
- 32:46Speaker 4: I don't know. To me, it was the guy who
- 32:49Speaker 4: first talked. All those videos we watched. Will Venable. Will
- 32:52Speaker 4: Venable went to the postseason with the Padres. He was
- 32:55Speaker 4: on the team with the Rangers. And you can never
- 32:59Speaker 4: discount how much Watching somebody deal with the ups and
- 33:04Speaker 4: downs of a season, even if they're not playing, matters
- 33:08Speaker 4: to young players. If Will Venable was all of a
- 33:11Speaker 4: sudden panicking to disco because they're not winning games, like
- 33:15Speaker 4: they kind of went through a stretch here where they
- 33:16Speaker 4: were winning them all the time early and not as
- 33:19Speaker 4: much later... and he's a different guy, then you're like, okay, well,
- 33:24Speaker 4: I have to panic now. But if you're always the
- 33:26Speaker 4: same guy, and that's what I see in Will, and
- 33:28Speaker 4: that's what I think is a valuable, valuable asset to
- 33:31Speaker 4: this team of young, young, inexperienced players going into the playoffs.
- 33:37Speaker 1: Back to Murakami for a moment, too. I just thought
- 33:40Speaker 1: of this.
- 33:41Speaker 2: So, Murakami, Okamoto, and Tetsuya Amai were the three big
- 33:48Speaker 2: names coming from Japan over to Major League Baseball.
- 33:53Speaker 1: And we cover this sport every day on Foul Territory.
- 33:56Speaker 2: Remember, Todd, all three of them seemed like they weren't
- 33:59Speaker 2: hitting the numbers everyone else thought they were going to
- 34:01Speaker 2: hit in terms of contracts. Murakami was a huge one.
- 34:04Speaker 2: He was projected 100 plus by plenty of people based
- 34:07Speaker 2: on his age and his power potential.
- 34:09Speaker 1: And he didn't sniff that. It was like a fifth
- 34:11Speaker 1: of that.
- 34:11Speaker 3: Right.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I mean, has he, has he needed to adjust a
- 34:15Speaker 1: little bit down the stretch here?
- 34:16Speaker 2: No doubt, but he finished his year with an eight
- 34:18Speaker 2: to eight 15 OPS where the white socks without Murakami
- 34:21Speaker 2: Okamoto had a really good year for the blue Jays.
- 34:23Speaker 2: You could say the same thing where the blue Jays
- 34:25Speaker 2: without Okamoto, they'd be much further out since he provided
- 34:27Speaker 2: so much power for them. Amai was the one who
- 34:30Speaker 2: really didn't work so far.
- 34:31Speaker 1: And actually it's funny.
- 34:32Speaker 2: We're talking about mixing in with your team and getting
- 34:36Speaker 2: into American culture and what you need to do here,
- 34:38Speaker 2: the food, the sleep, whatever it is really quickly. Amai
- 34:41Speaker 2: is the one who struggled with that. There were big
- 34:42Speaker 2: articles written about it a few months ago where he
- 34:45Speaker 2: was expressing that he had a tough time just getting
- 34:49Speaker 2: used to life in the United States. Again, just emphasizing
- 34:54Speaker 2: how happy Murakami is and how, hey, they gave him
- 34:56Speaker 2: the bidet right when he came over here. It's worth it.
- 35:01Speaker 3: That's a great call.
- 35:02Speaker 5: Put that in everybody's contract too.
- 35:04Speaker 3: Bidets are great.
- 35:09Speaker 1: I'm with you.
- 35:10Speaker 2: I'll talk about this for a second, then I want
- 35:11Speaker 2: to cue it. When you play a team, they're not
- 35:17Speaker 2: usually going to say, oh, this team stinks. But a
- 35:20Speaker 2: manager or a player is not necessarily going to say.
- 35:24Speaker 1: You know what?
- 35:25Speaker 2: This team's so good, they're making the playoffs. A team
- 35:28Speaker 2: that lost 100 games or more the last three years,
- 35:32Speaker 2: including the record 121 a couple years ago, right? The
- 35:36Speaker 2: Brewers are the only team this year that's going to
- 35:38Speaker 2: win 100 games. There's sound here of Pat Murphy, and
- 35:41Speaker 2: I'll play it for you.
- 35:42Speaker 3: It's quick.
- 35:45Speaker 4: You mark my word right now. This team, that Chicago
- 35:48Speaker 4: White Sox team, will be reckoned with in that division.
- 35:54Speaker 1: That was a long time ago. Do you know when
- 35:56Speaker 1: that was?
- 35:57Speaker 4: First series of the year, when they absolutely pummeled them.
- 36:01Speaker 4: Second series?
- 36:03Speaker 2: No, second game. After the second game, first series of
- 36:05Speaker 2: the year. After the second game, March 28th, Pat Murphy's like, oh,
- 36:10Speaker 2: this team's good. Managers don't say that every day.
- 36:13Speaker 3: They don't.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I mean, you were complimenting your– crats, you're never going
- 36:16Speaker 2: to have a manager. Very rarely, maybe never, is a
- 36:18Speaker 2: manager going to go, you know what, they're not good.
- 36:21Speaker 2: But he doesn't have to say after game two, oh, yeah,
- 36:24Speaker 2: this team's going to be a force in the central.
- 36:27Speaker 4: He saw something. He saw something that he liked. And
- 36:31Speaker 4: I think there's some similarities in, you know, the– The grit,
- 36:37Speaker 4: the vigor that the team plays with, like they get
- 36:39Speaker 4: after it. Nobody's going to pop off the page as, whoa,
- 36:43Speaker 4: the White Sox, you know, they have this MVP candidate
- 36:46Speaker 4: this year in their lineup. So Murph knows ball, and
- 36:51Speaker 4: he saw it early on. And this was after they
- 36:54Speaker 4: put a good whooping on him. And look what happened. Actually,
- 36:59Speaker 4: back-to-back years, the Brewers– got absolutely waylaid by the Yankees
- 37:04Speaker 4: to start last season. Look where the Brewers ended up.
- 37:07Speaker 4: The White Sox got waylaid by the Brewers. Look where
- 37:11Speaker 4: the White Sox ended up.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Todd, did you ever experience that, where you played a
- 37:17Speaker 2: team that was pretty bad the year before, and then
- 37:20Speaker 2: you play them the next year, and you're like, oh,
- 37:22Speaker 2: something changed?
- 37:24Speaker 3: I think it was the Pirates the one year. When they,
- 37:28Speaker 3: what was that year?
- 37:30Speaker 1: Was it like the 12, 13, 14 range when.
- 37:33Speaker 3: They had it? That was really the only run they had.
- 37:35Speaker 5: Yeah, with McCutche and Jay Hay and all those guys
- 37:39Speaker 5: and Martin. I mean, they had some dudes over there
- 37:44Speaker 5: and were like, woof, and they wore the black uniforms.
- 37:46Speaker 3: Like, damn, these boys are coming to play, man.
- 37:48Speaker 5: So, I would say the Pirates in the early teens,
- 37:53Speaker 5: 2000 teens there, it might have been 14, might have
- 37:58Speaker 5: been around there, but They were forced to be reckoned
- 38:02Speaker 5: with that year. They turned it around quickly, and the
- 38:05Speaker 5: fans loved every second of it.
- 38:09Speaker 3: What about this? Oh, go ahead.
- 38:11Speaker 4: Oh, no, no. I was just going to say the
- 38:14Speaker 4: 2014 Royals. I was on the Blue Jays, and they
- 38:17Speaker 4: came in, and I was like, whoa, this team I
- 38:22Speaker 4: didn't know about. I didn't know about their game. And ironically,
- 38:26Speaker 4: I get traded out. later in that year to that team,
- 38:30Speaker 4: just like an exciting team. You knew, I knew the
- 38:33Speaker 4: guys on the team because I had played with them.
- 38:35Speaker 4: I'd played with some of those guys three years prior
- 38:37Speaker 4: when they're all minor leaguers, but to see them all together,
- 38:41Speaker 4: you were like, Hmm, there's something there. And I got
- 38:44Speaker 4: fortunate to play, play with all those dudes for two years.
- 38:50Speaker 2: And a last all smiles, little Bravo to the Royals
- 38:57Speaker 2: for the, commending the White Sox.
- 39:00Speaker 1: You know, you have a team in your division. You
- 39:03Speaker 1: put it up on the screen. You say tip of
- 39:05Speaker 1: the cap. Good job, boys. So White Sox are in
- 39:08Speaker 1: KC and they gave him some love.
- 39:11Speaker 4: Pro organization. Royals are pro.
- 39:15Speaker 3: They are pro.
- 39:17Speaker 1: They really are.
- 39:17Speaker 2: They've been like that for a long time. It is
- 39:19Speaker 2: a pro org.
- 39:21Speaker 1: Baseball fans. Time to lock in. I have it on
- 39:24Speaker 1: my desk. Raincoat remineralizing matches. Oh, one-upping me.

- 39:48Speaker 3: What's up?
- 39:48Speaker 1: We're here. Can we show off the Murakami shirt real quick?
- 39:55Speaker 3: There it is.
- 39:57Speaker 1: That's good. Direct quote yesterday.
- 40:00Speaker 2: And if you're a fan watching from Japan and you've
- 40:03Speaker 2: been dialed in on the Dodgers for the last few years,
- 40:06Speaker 2: there's some White Sox fans emerging in Japan.
- 40:09Speaker 3: There should be, for sure. Yeah.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Murakami is beloved out there. He's not Otani. Otani's the
- 40:17Speaker 2: greatest player ever. maybe in the sport, let alone Japan.
- 40:21Speaker 2: But Murakami is very popular in Japan. So there's the shirt,
- 40:25Speaker 2: bottom left. Go check it out if you want it. FoulTerritoryShop.com.
- 40:32Speaker 6: This is the call of the Australian rubber bird.
- 40:35Speaker 3: Snap!
- 40:36Speaker 4: Snap!
- 40:37Speaker 6: This is the call of the Alaskan chili bird.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Kiki, kiki, kiki, geez, it's cold.
- 40:42Speaker 6: Kiki, kiki, kiki, geez, it's cold.
- 40:43Speaker 4: Geez, it's cold.
- 40:44Speaker 6: And this is the call of the marathon mascot bald eagle, Max.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Hi, it's Max.
- 40:50Speaker 3: Hello.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Did you know you could save up to a dollar
- 40:52Speaker 1: a gallon with the Marathon Rewards app?

- 41:02Speaker 2: All right, a few things on our way out here
- 41:15Speaker 2: on a Friday.
- 41:17Speaker 1: First off.
- 41:18Speaker 2: It was really cool how Ken Rosenthal talked about Alex
- 41:21Speaker 2: Bregman being back. We learned that right before the show started.
- 41:23Speaker 4: He was in the lineup.
- 41:24Speaker 1: He's playing.
- 41:25Speaker 2: He's got some protection on the cheek so he doesn't
- 41:29Speaker 2: get hit again, right? You got as much of a
- 41:31Speaker 2: flap as you can get to protect Bregman.
- 41:34Speaker 1: The other thing that was.
- 41:35Speaker 2: Cool, Todd, Father, that was pointed out by his manager
- 41:37Speaker 2: yesterday when they were celebrating. Alex Bregman has played 10
- 41:41Speaker 2: seasons in the big leagues.
- 41:42Speaker 1: He has made the playoffs every year. That is not easy.
- 41:46Speaker 3: That is a lucky man right there.
- 41:48Speaker 1: Yeah, there's some luck involved.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Listen, every year around Christmas time, you get another paycheck.
- 41:55Speaker 5: That's absolutely phenomenal for the last 10 years. Depending on
- 41:59Speaker 5: how far you go, it gets higher and higher. It
- 42:01Speaker 5: could be taking 30, anywhere from 30 to 300,000, 400,000.
- 42:07Speaker 3: I mean, that's incredible. I don't know how high it's
- 42:10Speaker 3: gotten or how low it's gotten, but good for him.
- 42:13Speaker 3: I'm wondering. How many guys can say that?
- 42:16Speaker 5: I probably think there's not that many, but that is
- 42:20Speaker 5: a really cool feat to have. That's called the 10-10-10
- 42:23Speaker 5: right there.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Yeah. 10-10, sorry, 10-10.
- 42:27Speaker 6: 10-10.
- 42:30Speaker 4: Jeter's second year was the first year they made the playoffs, right?
- 42:32Speaker 4: His first year they did not. I feel like he
- 42:35Speaker 4: would have been pretty close to 10-10-10. That would be
- 42:39Speaker 4: a good stat for somebody, but it's impressive. In my opinion,
- 42:42Speaker 4: I think winners win. Doesn't mean that winners can't lose.
- 42:46Speaker 4: I think the fact that Bregman, he does bring a
- 42:50Speaker 4: different aspect to every team that he's on. That's why
- 42:54Speaker 4: he's worth the $ 150 to $ 175 million that he's getting paid.
- 43:00Speaker 4: But the team that signed him is paying the most.
- 43:03Speaker 4: The team that didn't is also in the playoffs. And
- 43:06Speaker 4: another team that was talked about signing him in the Tigers...
- 43:09Speaker 4: Maybe he could have used that little extra edge, that
- 43:12Speaker 4: little extra value. Whatever that is that he brings, it
- 43:15Speaker 4: clearly works because he's been in the playoffs 10 straight
- 43:19Speaker 4: years to start his career. That's amazing.
- 43:22Speaker 2: Kratz was too young to remember this, but he flunked
- 43:24Speaker 2: his own trivia contest. 1996, Derek Jeter's rookie season, they
- 43:28Speaker 2: won the World Series.
- 43:30Speaker 3: Okay.
- 43:31Speaker 4: So then did he make it 10 straight in a row?
- 43:33Speaker 4: Because 96 to 2006, I feel like they made it
- 43:36Speaker 4: every year. I thought Jeter came up in 95, so
- 43:40Speaker 4: that's why. I thought he came up for a couple
- 43:43Speaker 4: games and that wouldn't disqualify him from the Bregman trivia.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Cup of coffee in 95.
- 43:49Speaker 4: So it didn't count.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 43:51Speaker 2: We'll let the Yankee trivia nerds duke it out after
- 43:57Speaker 2: the show. A couple other things on the way out.
- 44:00Speaker 2: Baseball World posting the Fangraphs war of every 40-homer, 40-stolen
- 44:05Speaker 2: base season. And guess who had the highest war of
- 44:08Speaker 2: the bunch? Pete Crow Armstrong, 10.7 and counting. He might
- 44:12Speaker 2: get close to 11 by the end of the season here.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Canseco's on this list in the sevens, same with A-Rod.
- 44:18Speaker 2: Alfonso Soriano was in the fives, wasn't much of a defender.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Barry Bonds in the nines, same with Acuna when he
- 44:25Speaker 2: did it. And then Shohei Otani was at an 8.9 F4.
- 44:29Speaker 1: Was that Otani's position player and pitcher war, though?
- 44:34Speaker 4: No no no he only went 40.
- 44:36Speaker 2: Oh that was his that was when he didn't pitch
- 44:38Speaker 2: right he didn't pitch that year so yes.
- 44:40Speaker 4: And thank you thank you for fans who roasted me
- 44:43Speaker 4: saying that Otani's not going to be able to hit
- 44:45Speaker 4: as well when he pitches for a full season thank
- 44:48Speaker 4: you for roasting me I am sorry that I was
- 44:50Speaker 4: wrong I was incorrect he was gonna hit 50 and
- 44:54Speaker 4: steal 50 bases when he was pitching at a Cy
- 44:58Speaker 4: Young level yes I am so sorry and.
- 45:02Speaker 1: So sarcastic for being good at your job. Last one, Todd,
- 45:08Speaker 1: you'll like this. Did you ever do this, Todd? I
- 45:11Speaker 1: know you weren't in the outfield. Well, a little bit, right?
- 45:14Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:14Speaker 3: A little bit.
- 45:15Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:16Speaker 1: A little bit. Did you ever do this? So did
- 45:17Speaker 1: you see Ian Hopp? I mean, he's going to hit
- 45:19Speaker 1: free agency.
- 45:20Speaker 2: So this was his last home game with the Cubs
- 45:22Speaker 2: and he put 300 bucks wrapped around a baseball and
- 45:25Speaker 2: sent it into the bleachers.
- 45:26Speaker 1: And he was like, go get some brewskis on me.
- 45:30Speaker 3: Yeah, no, I didn't.
- 45:31Speaker 5: I would have catch with the fans, but I've never
- 45:33Speaker 5: done anything of this nature. It's pretty unique for him
- 45:36Speaker 5: and a very thought-out message. I wonder who's going to
- 45:39Speaker 5: get the ball and who's going to get the beers.
- 45:42Speaker 5: I think that's pretty nice, pretty nice of him in
- 45:44Speaker 5: the outfield. That's something those fans will truly never forget, too,
- 45:48Speaker 5: to be like, dude, I just got– you know, Ian
- 45:51Speaker 5: Happ bought me a beer today.
- 45:52Speaker 3: That's really cool.
- 45:54Speaker 4: How many beers do you think that actually buys? Yes, Todd.
- 45:57Speaker 4: At a game, how many beers do you think.
- 45:58Speaker 3: $ 300 buys?
- 45:58Speaker 4: No tip included.
- 46:03Speaker 3: I would say 15.
- 46:04Speaker 4: 13 to 15, depending on how much the beer costs.
- 46:09Speaker 3: 13 to 15.
- 46:10Speaker 4: Yeah. It's a little, it's a little over in Wrigley,
- 46:13Speaker 4: but 300 bones. That's so show. I've never heard of
- 46:17Speaker 4: anybody doing something like this. No, I've heard of people sending,
- 46:20Speaker 4: sending something written on a baseball into the stands in Wrigley.
- 46:25Speaker 4: It wasn't a message.
- 46:27Speaker 3: That, Now you think about the guy that gets pulled over. Well,
- 46:31Speaker 3: he didn't have bought me this beer, you know? Oh Jesus.
- 46:34Speaker 4: We're going down, maybe.
- 46:36Speaker 1: A dark Friday path. This is what we do. It's
- 46:39Speaker 1: happened though. It's happened.
- 46:41Speaker 2: I've seen it happen at least a couple of times
- 46:43Speaker 2: where an outfielder has done this. Sometimes it's like last
- 46:45Speaker 2: game of the season. Someone chucks a hundred bucks against
- 46:48Speaker 2: a baseball or whatever the number is.
- 46:50Speaker 3: So.
- 46:51Speaker 1: Good stuff.
- 46:52Speaker 4: One place I was the last game of the season,
- 46:54Speaker 4: every time they went out and played catch, they played
- 46:56Speaker 4: catch with a signed ball. You know how before the
- 46:58Speaker 4: year everybody signs like a stack of baseballs the last day,
- 47:01Speaker 4: like fan appreciation day? The players will go out and
- 47:04Speaker 4: they'll warm up with a ball that's signed, which you're like, ah,
- 47:08Speaker 4: it's used. I think it's a pretty cool thing. And
- 47:11Speaker 4: they throw and they end up throwing the balls into
- 47:13Speaker 4: the stands. Kind of like they did the home run derby.
- 47:15Speaker 4: The home run derby balls were signed. And so people
- 47:18Speaker 4: that were hitting them, they were getting signed balls. home
- 47:21Speaker 4: run ball or signed baseballs.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Often the littlest things that a player does. They have
- 47:26Speaker 1: no idea.
- 47:26Speaker 2: I mean, they do know, but like even the littlest,
- 47:29Speaker 2: littlest thing, right? Acknowledging you looked up at someone and
- 47:33Speaker 2: gave them a, Hey, I see you can make all
- 47:35Speaker 2: the difference for a fan, especially a young fan.
- 47:39Speaker 4: Todd, Todd was, is one of the best, was one
- 47:42Speaker 4: of the best at that as a player. And even
- 47:45Speaker 4: not as a player, because Todd is like the, he's
- 47:48Speaker 4: royalty where he lives and watching him, watching you walk
- 47:51Speaker 4: around Tom's river Lakewood, you could be, you could very
- 47:55Speaker 4: much be like, yeah. Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey. I mean, you,
- 47:59Speaker 4: you are there and very engaged and very like one
- 48:03Speaker 4: of the best I've ever seen.
- 48:06Speaker 3: Very present. Yes. Appreciate that.
- 48:09Speaker 2: Last thing on our way out, Kratz hats with an
- 48:12Speaker 2: ode to someone, perhaps.
- 48:14Speaker 3: Are you doing that to someone? Oh no.
- 48:17Speaker 2: Well, it's a note to the Friars from last night.
- 48:19Speaker 2: I thought maybe you were going to tip your cap
- 48:21Speaker 2: to Justin Verlander making his last start on Saturday.
- 48:23Speaker 1: And we don't know about Scherzer yet either.
- 48:25Speaker 4: Scherzer has to come back unless Verlander lays an egg
- 48:31Speaker 4: and doesn't get any strikeouts and Scherzer beats him. I
- 48:34Speaker 4: think he needs four strikeouts to beat Verlander. So Verlander
- 48:38Speaker 4: goes out and gets like three tomorrow. and then Scherzer
- 48:44Speaker 4: wants to pitch Sunday and doesn't get more than Verlander,
- 48:47Speaker 4: I think Scherzer comes back. I'm just saying. Also, Scherzer
- 48:52Speaker 4: plays one more year. He goes in by himself in
- 48:55Speaker 4: the Hall of Fame and not Verlander and Scherzer at
- 48:58Speaker 4: the same time. Just putting facts out there. Not my opinion,
- 49:01Speaker 4: just facts.
- 49:02Speaker 1: And it's real.
- 49:03Speaker 2: Those two are rivals, former teammates. They compete with each
- 49:09Speaker 2: other even when they weren't on the same team.
- 49:12Speaker 1: And I love that.
- 49:13Speaker 2: That's like the grabbing by the jugular, I'm better than
