- Sean Graver: Well, it's four forty five PM on a Friday. You're mentally already gone for the weekend. And an email lands from your boss marked urgent, needed by Monday morning. And it's not a small request. Hey, this is Sean, and welcome back to Prayer Before Work. You know, just like that, the weekend you had planned, the one where you weren't going to think about work at all is gone. And maybe it's a real emergency. Maybe it's someone else's poor planning finally landing in your desk. But either way, you didn't choose it, and now you're stuck deciding how to respond, both to the request and to the frustration rising up inside of you. Well, Proverbs 16 9 says something that fits this moment better than it might seem at first. The heart of man plans his way. But the Lord establishes his steps. So you had a plan for this weekend. That plan was real and it mattered, but this verse is a reminder that your plans were never fully yours to control in the first place, even on a normal week. Something was always going to come along and rearrange them, whether it's an urgent request from your boss or something else entirely. Now that doesn't mean your plans don't matter, and it And it means maybe holding them a little looser than we naturally do. So what do you actually do with the email sitting in your inbox right now? You can respond honestly about what's realistic. If Monday morning is truly possible, say so and do the work well instead of resenting it the whole time. If it's not realistic without wrecking something else that matters, say that too, but calmly and With a suggestion instead of just an objection. What you don't have to do is spend your entire weekend either seething about the interruption or panicking about the deadline. You can hand your actual plans to God honestly, including your frustration about them getting disrupted, and still do the work in front of you with a clear head instead of a bitter one. Let's pray. Lord, we had plans for our time. And they just got rearranged by someone else's timeline, and it is hard not to feel resentful about that. Lord, help us respond to what's actually being asked instead of reacting to our own frustration. Give us clarity about what's realistic and the courage to say so, honestly. And even when our plans get interrupted, help us trust that our steps are still being watched over. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Go make today count.
