- 0:00Speaker 1: And look, Sony from the Berry Springs Tavern, wasn't the
- 0:02Speaker 1: other only one obviously out there yesterday. Joining me on
- 0:05Speaker 1: the line right now is Tonys from the Noonamar Tavern.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Good morning to you, Tony.
- 0:11Speaker 2: How are you, Cadie.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I'm not too bad, mate, I know that you were
- 0:14Speaker 1: at that meeting yesterday as well. What was your message
- 0:17Speaker 1: for the government?
- 0:20Speaker 2: Look, I just think they, you know, will to share
- 0:23Speaker 2: fact that they cut down question time the other day
- 0:27Speaker 2: and continue to ignore that the crime is a major
- 0:30Speaker 2: problem at the moment. You know, it's the biggest problem
- 0:32Speaker 2: we've gotten the into, especially you know, Alice Springs is
- 0:36Speaker 2: even worse than what we're you know, they've been going
- 0:38Speaker 2: through a bit longer and worse than what we have.
- 0:40Speaker 2: But they just talk about it and you say, they're
- 0:44Speaker 2: going to spend money do these programs and nothing's actually working,
- 0:47Speaker 2: and they just need to make people more accountable for
- 0:49Speaker 2: that and it's just getting beyond ridiculous. People will sak
- 0:52Speaker 2: death of it.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, Like I'm at that point, and I
- 0:55Speaker 1: know that a lot of people are at that point,
- 0:57Speaker 1: particularly people like you who been impacted by crime as well.
- 1:02Speaker 2: Tiny Yeah, well I was, you know, I can see
- 1:05Speaker 2: how upset the animal was still yesterday, because it's still
- 1:08Speaker 2: pretty pretty raw with what happened to them. We had
- 1:11Speaker 2: a ram rade about probably four four months ago, and
- 1:15Speaker 2: the same thing. It took us, you know, several weeks
- 1:19Speaker 2: to get back to normal for repairs and damage. And
- 1:22Speaker 2: that that's the only claim of at all year because
- 1:24Speaker 2: my access is so oh now, all these small claims
- 1:28Speaker 2: you don't even bother anymore because the insurance companies you know,
- 1:31Speaker 2: won't won't cover those those small climbs because because the
- 1:34Speaker 2: excess is crept up so much, so you know, you
- 1:36Speaker 2: end up paying for a lot of that out as
- 1:39Speaker 2: your cash flow of the time. And I just think
- 1:41Speaker 2: it's about time when they catch these little pricks that
- 1:43Speaker 2: they make them accountable for the damage. They should be
- 1:46Speaker 2: paying for it, and if they can't, their bloody parents
- 1:49Speaker 2: should be. It's just discussing what they get away with.
- 1:51Speaker 2: And every straight away they just turned them around into
- 1:54Speaker 2: the victims because of their upbringing. Well that's not our fault.
- 1:57Speaker 2: We didn't. We didn't, we didn't cause that. Now, it's
- 2:01Speaker 2: just ridiculous, tiny tell me.
- 2:02Speaker 1: With that insurance. So what's the situation for you guys, right? Now,
- 2:07Speaker 1: like you've said there, obviously, if you if you make
- 2:09Speaker 1: a claim, you know it's it's a big one, particularly
- 2:13Speaker 1: after something like a ram ride. So what's the situation
- 2:16Speaker 1: then for you guys when it comes to your insurance.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Is it still sustainable or attainable for you to kind
- 2:21Speaker 1: of even make a claim?
- 2:23Speaker 2: Oh? It is, but it gets harder and harder every year.
- 2:26Speaker 2: And basically the insurance count logo my excess man was
- 2:30Speaker 2: five thousand dollars. So basically they say if you've got
- 2:33Speaker 2: any small claims that they wipe the hands of it
- 2:35Speaker 2: and you've got to deal with it yourself. So air
- 2:38Speaker 2: Ram made wasn't as bad as at a Berry, but
- 2:41Speaker 2: it still probably cost us twenty grand. Yep, so I
- 2:44Speaker 2: got fifteen backs. But most of these small claims with
- 2:47Speaker 2: a mash it wind, you know, the deal might be
- 2:51Speaker 2: one for three grand, depending on what how much glass
- 2:53Speaker 2: they break, the much damiages do and generally they get
- 2:56Speaker 2: in and you luck, I say, take a hundred dollars.
- 2:59Speaker 2: It's just and the inconvenience's sitting around trying to get
- 3:02Speaker 2: a glaze ye at three o'clock in the morning and
- 3:05Speaker 2: waiting for the police to come there. And then forensics,
- 3:07Speaker 2: and you know, the cop is do an awesome job,
- 3:09Speaker 2: but they're they just think of the revolving doors.
- 3:12Speaker 1: So we had.
- 3:14Speaker 2: We've been okas well and had it one day there
- 3:16Speaker 2: we had three breaking had two breakings in three days, yep.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And three of the kids were the same ones from
- 3:23Speaker 2: two days before. They just hadn't quite caught up with
- 3:24Speaker 2: them yet. And even when they did slaps on the
- 3:27Speaker 2: rest of backhead on the street, it's just ridiculous.
- 3:30Speaker 1: Well, yeah, and I think the frustration that you're feeling
- 3:33Speaker 1: is the frustration that a lot of Territorians are feeling
- 3:36Speaker 1: at the moment. And you know, you're sort of in
- 3:39Speaker 1: a situation where the governments, like you've said, and like
- 3:41Speaker 1: Sloaney said, you know, they're saying that they're spending money
- 3:43Speaker 1: on this, they're saying that they're doing this, they're saying
- 3:45Speaker 1: that they're doing that, but what they're doing is actually
- 3:47Speaker 1: not making a difference. So they've got to start looking
- 3:50Speaker 1: at things a bit differently.
- 3:52Speaker 2: Well, you know, we brought it up yesterday and I
- 3:55Speaker 2: did two lots. I think managtry send things got to
- 3:59Speaker 2: come back gaver and how about we we make manatory
- 4:02Speaker 2: boot camp for all these kids, like it doesn't matter
- 4:05Speaker 2: whether they steal something's worth you know, twenty dollars or
- 4:08Speaker 2: one hundred thousand dollars up. When they steal, the current
- 4:11Speaker 2: calls damage. There's no accountability for their actions. There's no
- 4:14Speaker 2: pointancial accountability. Boot camps six weeks, boot camp straight out there,
- 4:19Speaker 2: a bit of tough love, but show them something at
- 4:22Speaker 2: the end, if they do the right thing, you incentivize it.
- 4:25Speaker 2: You know, you're taking them out bush and military style camp.
- 4:29Speaker 2: But if they do the right thing, then they get
- 4:31Speaker 2: to go maybe fishing or doing something like that, or
- 4:34Speaker 2: sailing or hunting a rock climbing. But at the moment,
- 4:37Speaker 2: it's just that they must laugh at all us because
- 4:40Speaker 2: it's to them to become a game. It really has.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Yeah, well we're bloody, we're you know, businesses like yourselves, Sarah,
- 4:47Speaker 1: are losing. There is no doubt about that.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll re you just one of our best chur
- 4:52Speaker 2: seasons ever. And I'm still proud to be a territory, yep.
- 4:55Speaker 2: But you know it's just for people coming out in
- 5:00Speaker 2: the state and all that, they must just shake their
- 5:01Speaker 2: head sometimes when they hear about things and you know,
- 5:04Speaker 2: and just see what goes on in a in a
- 5:07Speaker 2: beautiful little city with our itinerants and all that. It's
- 5:10Speaker 2: just there's so many better ways we could present present
- 5:14Speaker 2: fields for the series and industries. It's trust guiding from
- 5:17Speaker 2: from our point of view. It's a great place and
- 5:19Speaker 2: we want to encourage people to come back here and
- 5:21Speaker 2: visit again.
- 5:21Speaker 1: Yep, absolutely all Tiny in us from the noon of
- 5:25Speaker 1: our tavern. I always appreciate your time. Thanks very much
- 5:28Speaker 1: for having a chat with me this morning.
- 5:30Speaker 2: We appreciate the time to be able to have a
- 5:32Speaker 2: chat you know, and express your opinions and what's going on.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Much appreciated, No worries, Thanks Tiny
