- 0:00Back with you on the Yukonacky Coaches Show. Tyler Helton will us the Associated
- 0:03Coach, Huskies and Catamounts to wrap up the regular season on Thursday. Our
- 0:07coverage begins right after Gino Show between six and seven. We'll go right pretty
- 0:12much puck drop at seven oh five for round number three with the Catamounts.
- 0:16Before we get to the Catamounts. So, Adam, you want to start
- 0:18with a couple of weekends ago. Yeah, we hadn't had a coaches show
- 0:22since the BU weekend as well, and we focused on last weekend against Northeastern.
- 0:26So just that Friday night at home, the six to one loss,
- 0:31but just the way that the game unfolded with physicality and penalties, and it
- 0:35just felt unlike what we've really seen from this Yukon team in years. If
- 0:40ever, that one game, yeah, I think it was. I think
- 0:43we probably let our emotions get the best of us a little bit in that
- 0:46game. And I think the guys were obviously fired up to play against BU,
- 0:49and I thought we were ready to play, and I think we just
- 0:52got our emotions that's the best of us. And sometimes it can be a
- 0:55frustrating game and but we don't want that to happen, and that was just
- 1:00something that happened and it won't happen again. It felt like it was I
- 1:04mean, it felt like it was coming from both sides. It wasn't just
- 1:07a one way street there. It did feel like BEU was just as willing
- 1:11to tussle as you guys were about Yeah, I think be You is probably
- 1:17one of the heavier teams in our league too, and plays a heavy style,
- 1:21So it was two of the same, similar styles kind of going at
- 1:25each other, and sometimes when that's going on, it can get a little
- 1:29over the top. Tyler, you're heavily involved in the special teams, start
- 1:33with the penalty killing. What do you like about it this year? Yeah,
- 1:36I think we were fortunate to bring a lot of guys back from last
- 1:38year. Actually the last two years. I think we were top ten penalty
- 1:42kill and the last two years before that, so we brought a lot of
- 1:45guys back. I think we want to obviously pressure quite a bit. This
- 1:49weekend was a little different or last weekend against Northeastern. They're a little It
- 1:53brings me unique challenges that we can't do some stuff that we want to do.
- 1:56But I think our biggest thing is pressure in the park, can getting
- 2:00two hundred foot clears and being good on face offs. All right, you
- 2:04mentioned the differences with Northeastern, How similar, how different? Artists say,
- 2:07like some of the better power plays in the league, like BU and BC.
- 2:12Yeah, it's more. I mean they all. I feel like every
- 2:14weekend, every power play we play has got someone on it that can hurt
- 2:17you. So then the way they moved the puck, Yeah, they moved
- 2:21the puck, and they just have a lot of high end skill guys that
- 2:23can hurt you in a lot of different ways. So their structure is a
- 2:27little different than BC and BU in terms of like a one three one versus
- 2:30spread. So and Northeastern does some stuff that's just different. But I thought
- 2:35we did a decent job of it. I thought the coal Saturday was a
- 2:38little unlucky. We blocked two shots and it ends up on someone's stick.
- 2:42So, by the way, the sixth and four of the end of game
- 2:44Friday, well done started with the face offs. I mean, Hudson finally
- 2:46was able to get a few face off wins in that third period, but
- 2:49those were key and you didn't really give them much of a chance in that
- 2:51last minute, No, and the guys did a great job. I thought
- 2:53Tabor, Heath Slip and Hudson Chandor did a great job. And then Harrison
- 2:57Reese has been one of our best penalty killers since peak here as a freshman
- 3:00and he does a great job doing it. Why well as a freshman to
- 3:04come in and just know that's a hole he's gonna plug. What made him
- 3:07so immediately effective? I think he does a great job clearing bucks, Like
- 3:12he doesn't miss on a lot of clears, and that's a unique skill.
- 3:15Like I remember when Tag was here, we put him on defense because he
- 3:19could clear the puck, And it's just a skill that if you can get
- 3:23the puck out of his own, you can get fresh guys out on the
- 3:24ice, and you can get back to pressure in which we want to do.
- 3:27Toy, You've got a lot of seniors on the back line. I
- 3:30mean, obviously Harrison and the Jake Flinner are done. I guess in theory
- 3:35some of the other guys could come back. But it's been a pretty good
- 3:38run for these guys. Yeah, it's been a great run. I mean,
- 3:39and you haven't really had much in a way of injuries, they've been
- 3:43steady eddies on that blue line all year. Yeah, they've been awesome.
- 3:46Jake Flinn and Harrison Raci for five years has been great for us. And
- 3:49then Andrew Luke has been here for two years, but this is his fifth
- 3:51year in college hockey. And then John Spetts has been great for us too
- 3:54from day one, and they've had a lot of success. And I think
- 3:58that leads to probably a lot of Coffi institute coming into the playoffs for us
- 4:00is we've had guys that have played in the Garden. All those guys pretty
- 4:04much just outside this year, finished in the top five every year they've been
- 4:08here in hockey, So I think they feel pretty confident in the team and
- 4:11group we have. And then in the power play, the other unit that
- 4:14you are in charge of, what's been something that you've really liked that you've
- 4:19seen lately out of that group? I thought we're really good Saturday. I
- 4:24thought we had a lot of good scoring chances. I think we ended up
- 4:26having sixteen shots on the power play. I could be off, but I
- 4:30think that's what I saw. And I think we're really trying to emphasize that
- 4:32right now because obviously it hasn't been great for us, but we always talk
- 4:35about the next power play, I mean most important, and especially coming into
- 4:39the stretch. You only get so few power plays in a playoff game,
- 4:44so you got to be able to capitalize and that's going to be the most
- 4:46important part is making sure we're playing our best on our special teams coming in
- 4:48the playoffs. Here, when you watch your power play versus some of the
- 4:53other ones, do you feel the puck movement? Is it equal to what
- 4:56they do or could it be better? I could be better. I think
- 4:59everything could be better. I think we can improve. I thought we did
- 5:01a good job this weekend of being more of a threat more consistently. But
- 5:06definitely that's a point of emphasis for us, is like we got to move
- 5:11the park. We don't want guys holding on to it. And you gotta
- 5:14be willing to make plays and feel comfortable with that on a stretch where maybe
- 5:18you're not scoring as many power play goals, are there other metrics that you're
- 5:23using to say, Okay, guys, you know you didn't score, but
- 5:27this shows that it was a productive two minutes. Yeah, I think shots
- 5:31can somewhat be that and momentum. Mike We always talk about not losing on
- 5:35a penalty kill. We talk about gain and momentum on the powerplay. We
- 5:39talk about not losing momentum on the power play. And I thought, especially
- 5:42Saturday night, like I thought we had, we had Tupacs there sitting on
- 5:44the goal line that goes through them, and they just don't cross over the
- 5:46line. So I thought it gained some momentum for us going five on five,
- 5:49especially in the second period. I think the shots were twenty two to
- 5:53six or something like that at some point. So I think it's just gain
- 5:57and momentum, and they gave it to us Saturday, and unfortunately we were
- 6:00able to capitalize. But we get another opportunity Thursday. Tyler, you close
- 6:02out with Vermont on Thursday. Haven't played them since early November. I'm sure
- 6:06you've started to watch some video. How have they changed in November? They
- 6:11haven't changed much. They work really hard, they're heavy, they do a
- 6:15good job getting on you in the D zone and creating odd man rushes for
- 6:18themselves. So I thought we uh When we played there Friday night the first
- 6:23time, I thought we were okay, and then I thought we responded well
- 6:26on Saturday and hopefully we can build off our game on Saturday versus Northeastern and
- 6:30continue to build on that. But we gotta play heavy and we got to
- 6:32play fast against them. Does that mean that they also create short handed opportunities
- 6:36the other way? Because I know that's an area where you know you've been
- 6:40bitting at times this year. Yeah, they do a little bit. And
- 6:43like watching our games yesterday against them, they got a lot of timemon rushes
- 6:48against us last time, so I think that's something that we got to eliminate
- 6:51from them. And they scored. I think they scored two versus Maine this
- 6:55weekend too, So it's a big part of their offense that we got to
- 6:58do a good job at it. Yeah. They give up seven shorties this
- 7:00year too. Yeah, see how that plays out. Tyler, thank you
- 7:03for coming down. We appreciate it and the best of uck this weekend.
- 7:05Yeah, I appreciate you guys having me out. You bet you associate coach
