- 0:01Speaker 1: And welcome to the Brain's Body Podcast, and I'm Dr Christopher Kevin Slayton, your host, and we're still talking about the brain's body.
- 0:08Speaker 1: But in relation to brain talk, and why?
- 0:11Speaker 1: Because when you're moving through the crisis self, you want to know what's happening, because you want to get through the next step of recovery, and you can't recover if you don't allow yourself to sense and feel the way your energy, action and feelings are moving through the brain's body, the brain's body.
- 0:35Speaker 1: Because the brain must be in the lead, you must cooperate.
- 0:39Speaker 1: I'm talking about what you have to learn how to do to manage and control the anxiety that's in contact, the interaction, as you try to move through it.
- 0:51Speaker 1: I tell you every time that the brain is a social organ and is there to help you move through contact with other people as well as yourself.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Because most of the time when you're in crises, you short circuit the information processing loop, because you will not accept the contact, because the emotion takes the lead of the brain.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I didn't say body, I said the brain.
- 1:18Speaker 1: The body reacts through the emotion, and so when I'm talking about the brain-body learning system through the emotion, and so when I'm talking about the brain-body learning system, I'm talking about how you begin to realize how it feels to have your brain take the lead of your body, so that when you begin to realize, okay, I made that choice, and it even hurt more because of the choice that I made, and you don't get to the other side of realizing the benefits of that choice because you're emotionally caught up in man, I don't like the way that felt, okay, but on the other side of how that felt was the experience of awareness from moving through that negative energy and allowing cognitive space to be created, the capacity to absorb more information, because now you are cooperating with sense and received path.
- 2:17Speaker 1: Now catch it crossover.
- 2:20Speaker 1: Crossover simply means that the sense path is where the negative energy comes through the environment, but the received path is your internal response system that jumps in the lead.
- 2:31Speaker 1: That means it accepts that contact and through that interaction, now your brain's in the lead of your body.
- 2:38Speaker 1: So we used to react.
- 2:40Speaker 1: No, now you can feel the brain managing that energy, controlling that thinking, that negative thinking, and so now you can understand what I mean when I say sense or feel for self, because you can feel you, you could feel how your body is reacting to the brain and the lead, because it's not doing what you once would do.
- 3:05Speaker 1: And you look at another person, you look straight in the eyes and they see a difference.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Wow, you didn't react.
- 3:10Speaker 1: That what's going on with you?
- 3:12Speaker 1: I couldn't get you to react, I couldn't press your button.
- 3:16Speaker 1: Stop.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Because that's what brain-body learning is understanding that when you enter contact, the brain and the body is not connected because that's a process loop.
- 3:30Speaker 1: The process loop is you have the contact, and that's environmental, that has to go through the receive path, which is the neural systems of the brain, and then reconnection, because now it's being processed.
- 3:44Speaker 1: So now the brain and body comes back together inside your human system.
- 3:50Speaker 1: Now you have the senses organizing, because it's transferring all this information.
- 3:58Speaker 1: But because you cooperated, your brain-body is connected and that's your technology, that's your recovery, because once the brain and body comes back together, your sense of feel is complete.
- 4:11Speaker 1: That means that your sense of self the external you now aligns with the internal you, because that brain-body connection the body is the external, the brain is the internal comes together.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Now you're functioning at a higher level of awareness.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Wait a minute.
- 4:28Speaker 1: I said awareness because now you're aware of your brain, now you're aware of your senses.
- 4:39Speaker 1: No-transcript.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Okay, and that's what we're talking about when we talk about brain-body learning.
- 4:44Speaker 1: We're talking about you don't have to be in crises.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Once you begin to understand how to navigate pain, hurt and sadness, you begin to go to the next step Dealing with disappointment, frustration, hostility, because if you got children, you go through this.
- 5:03Speaker 1: If you have a friend, you go through this.
- 5:04Speaker 1: If you have a friend, you go through this.
- 5:05Speaker 1: If you have a wife, you go through this.
- 5:07Speaker 1: And you have to understand that.
- 5:09Speaker 1: You have to practice learning how to live with self and others, learning how to learn with self and others, learning how to think with self and others, learning how to respond with self and others, learning how to respond with self and others.
- 5:26Speaker 1: Because you see, what I'm saying to you is you are the experience, and what I mean by that is you must allow yourself to be led by your internal sense of fear, the practice of making contact, the practice of interacting, the practice of cooperating, the practice of participating, and then study your sensory seed path as performance indicators.
- 5:51Speaker 1: How well am I processing this information flow?
- 5:56Speaker 1: Am I allowing the emotion to get in the way or my negative thinking to get in the way?
- 6:02Speaker 1: That breaks down my interpretation of what I'm trying to accomplish when I take action.
- 6:11Speaker 1: Okay, because you don't want to just be a reactive type of individual, you want to be a processor.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Your roots is a processor.
- 6:21Speaker 1: So if you go back to my literature, it's talking about infancy, breath of life, experience, and how the brain comes out first, not the body, the brain, head out first, your sense of self out first, and now, when you come out, what comes out of your mouth?
- 6:40Speaker 1: Brain talk.
- 6:41Speaker 1: Why brain talk?
- 6:42Speaker 1: Why brain talk?
- 6:42Speaker 1: Because self-talk is introspection, it's forming right, and your inner voice is the experience of that contact, interaction, when, when you were first touched, your inner voice awakened.
- 6:56Speaker 1: That's that information flow coming from the environment.
- 6:59Speaker 1: All right, and so when I'm talking about self-recovery, I'm talking about how you have to work yourself through self-research, the study of how you sense and receive contact, and transfer the contact to stages of interaction, interaction, brain, body, sense systems.
- 7:18Speaker 1: Those are messaging systems.
- 7:20Speaker 1: So when you're interacting, that's where you get crossed up, because they have to align.
- 7:24Speaker 1: Your brain must be in the lead of the body and your senses must transmit the information flow.
- 7:30Speaker 1: But you have to cooperate and you can't be afraid, because you're dealing with unknown, unknown experiences.
- 7:38Speaker 1: You got to learn to trust your brain.
- 7:41Speaker 1: You got to learn to practice those four things, to ground yourself in what I'm talking about Learning how to live with you, learning how to learn with you, learning how to think with you, learning how to respond with you, in the lead of your brain's body.
- 8:02Speaker 1: No, because these are the practices of recovery.
- 8:05Speaker 1: Because when you get crossed up I'm telling you, when you have these negative experiences of what happened, you want to process that.
- 8:12Speaker 1: So each time you practice learning how to live through the experience of self, you are practicing self-recovery.
- 8:19Speaker 1: You're practicing moving through the chaos, the calamity, and you begin to realize, when you take the next step, how to learn through the crisis of self-recovery, how to think through the crisis of self-wow recognition, how to respond to the crisis of performance.
- 8:41Speaker 1: Your sense and receive path performances are improving based on the way you choose to practice the brains by learning systems.
- 8:50Speaker 1: So what I'm talking about today is brain talk.
- 8:53Speaker 1: The ultimate experience is understanding how your brain talks, because that's what that's what.
- 8:59Speaker 1: That's what psychs us all out is that our brain talks back.
- 9:00Speaker 1: That's what psychs us all out is that our brain talks back.
- 9:05Speaker 1: And so when you're out there and you're trying to do these things I'm talking about your brain can be negative or positive.
- 9:11Speaker 1: I'm talking about the positive, negative flow.
- 9:13Speaker 1: That's because your inner voice is influenced by what happened, the external experience of interaction that your brain has to process.
- 9:23Speaker 1: And then you have brain talk, the emerging knowledge base of who and what you are.
- 9:35Speaker 1: When you're practicing the brain leading the body, you have to become more aware of that inner voice, self-talk, transitioning, because that's what you want to do.
- 9:40Speaker 1: The goal is brain talk, the effect is self-talk.
- 9:46Speaker 1: The event is moving through your inner voice, because self-talk is when it's just in your head and you're deliberating and it's just spiraling around inside your head and you're trying to figure out how do I get this anxiety out, with the brain taking lead of the body crossover.
- 10:12Speaker 1: Now you have receive, sense, feel, receive to sense and feel the brain and lead of the body.
- 10:22Speaker 1: Now it's an environmental response system, because now your brain is responding to the environment, other people, worldly, events, and that's what you can measure.
- 10:36Speaker 1: You're grounded, you can measure that.
- 10:38Speaker 1: But you got to understand that when you're doing it, you're talking about you accepting leadership for what happened, because you're moving through it, and that's why I say you have to cooperate, because that pain, hurt and sadness just doesn't go away.
- 10:53Speaker 1: You feel every single step you make in a positive way, but you're grounded in understanding practice in the home, practice when you go to school, practice when you live in the neighborhood.
- 11:06Speaker 1: Practice in your workplace.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Doing what?
- 11:08Speaker 1: Learning how to live, learn, think and respond Right.
- 11:14Speaker 1: And you're practicing and it's all grounded and you can measure every step because it's physics, these are real places.
- 11:23Speaker 1: My son would call this speak the truth, dad, brain talk.
- 11:30Speaker 1: Are you listening to your brain, your body and your senses?
- 11:34Speaker 1: Because that's what's really working as we work through the crisis cell.
- 11:43Speaker 1: And so Dr Slayton Live is a brain talker, if you pick up my new book Human Systems, science and the Best Things with the Child.
- 11:49Speaker 1: Brain talking began way back in 2009 when I had my first group of children inside my laboratory school.
- 11:57Speaker 1: Yes, I had a laboratory school and what I was teaching them was how to move through the crisis, self their sense and receive past dysfunctions.
- 12:05Speaker 1: And these were children who had been dealing with parents who abused drugs while they were in utero.
- 12:15Speaker 1: So I pause in between these speeches because it still hits me when I visualize these children and me working through pain and anxiety I'm talking about.
- 12:28Speaker 1: They were acting out and I had to calm them down.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I had to calm myself, I had to figure it out.
- 12:34Speaker 1: How do you figure out how to work with children that are disturbed because of what their parents done?
- 12:40Speaker 1: So the best interest of the child is understanding how to talk to the brain and not the body, because you see, the body is all animated and it's coming at you and it's trying to put you in fear.
- 12:50Speaker 1: And these kids are trying to run you out of your own lab and you've got to cool off, stay calm and collect a sense of feel for self in relation to them and then move through each one of them individually, not as a group individually.
- 13:09Speaker 1: You talk to each brain individually.
- 13:12Speaker 1: So that's where the skill comes in.
- 13:14Speaker 1: That sense of feel is for the experience of each one of these individuals, and it could be 15 to 20 individuals inside the lab.
- 13:24Speaker 1: But it's simple, because all they want you to do is show them signs of care, not fear.
- 13:29Speaker 1: Care.
- 13:30Speaker 1: That means, when they come at you to put you in fear, you calm down, you calm down, and when you calm down, they're sitting observing those signs of care, because now they understand you're not afraid, that you're really interacting with them, because that's what interaction is.
- 13:51Speaker 1: But if they have difficulty transferring sense data to the brain, you've got to teach them how to receive that information flow.
- 14:00Speaker 1: And that's why in all my literature you'll see signs of care, because when children see signs it's physical.
- 14:07Speaker 1: They trust what they see because they know in other situations they try the same things.
- 14:13Speaker 1: What other people have done as a reaction to them and that's how they learn to live is through your reaction.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Now, if you have had encounters with children or adults who were born to parents who use and abuse drugs and they had, they had less impulse control how did you?
- 14:32Speaker 1: You move through that?
- 14:33Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about Self-discovery.
- 14:37Speaker 1: How do you discover the environmental pathways from the brain in response to people that are upset, so that your emotion and your thought is balanced?
- 14:50Speaker 1: And I'm saying thought and emotion, which means it's balanced because the thought is in the front of emotion.
- 14:57Speaker 1: That's the crossover brain-body crossover is that that emotion is no longer in the lead and so inside the sense and receive path interplay.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Thought is now riveting in front of the emotion, which means it is blending emotion and thought and thought is winning.
- 15:19Speaker 1: How you think through the situation of how you feel.
- 15:23Speaker 1: And that's the other key thing is why, when you listen to me talk about feel, it's not the same thing as other people when they use it.
- 15:30Speaker 1: To feel means that you are transferring from the worldly sense to the internal you, the neural sense of you.
- 15:41Speaker 1: Okay, because you have a neurological system and to feel is an impulse connection between the environment and your inner self.
- 15:54Speaker 1: So the external you meets the internal you.
- 15:56Speaker 1: So your sense of self has no connection to feel.
- 16:00Speaker 1: That's the environmental influence of you.
- 16:03Speaker 1: So when you feel your sense of feel for self, that is your inner self connecting.
- 16:10Speaker 1: And that's what you want.
- 16:11Speaker 1: You want to acknowledge the fact that you have feelings and that those feelings allow you to connect your brain to your body so that when you're dealing with a difficult person, you're working through your sense of feeling, you're not blocking and saying I can't be feeling this.
- 16:26Speaker 1: No, you have to feel this because the brain's responding.
- 16:29Speaker 1: That forward feed is in response to the environmental influences, that's trying to do something to you and that forward feed is the brain's environmental response.
- 16:44Speaker 1: And you have to allow that to take place because, as you do, you become more informed, more aware.
- 16:50Speaker 1: This is Dr Slade live.
