- 2:46Speaker 4: Good morning, Happy Friday, Happy May. Welcome to the show.
- 2:50Speaker 2: Good morning, I'm glad to be here you.
- 2:53Speaker 4: You kind of appear to me that you may be
- 2:55Speaker 4: one of those people on your social media that would
- 2:58Speaker 4: share the justin Timberlake for May first saying it's going
- 3:01Speaker 4: to be May.
- 3:02Speaker 6: Is that you.
- 3:04Speaker 2: I had not that one, but I did see a
- 3:06Speaker 2: pierced availed one this morning that said you held on
- 3:08Speaker 2: till May, so I would share that one all right.
- 3:11Speaker 4: Before we get into this week's Pet of the Week,
- 3:13Speaker 4: I do want to ask you about Tuxes and Tails
- 3:16Speaker 4: last week. I was not able to be there. I
- 3:17Speaker 4: know some of our staff were in attendance. How'd everything
- 3:20Speaker 4: go last week?
- 3:21Speaker 2: Oh? It was a blast. Everybody that was there had
- 3:25Speaker 2: a good time. And I do think it was the
- 3:27Speaker 2: best Tuxes and Tails to date.
- 3:29Speaker 4: That's great. And the capacity crowd, I'm sure.
- 3:33Speaker 2: Yes, And we were able to raise just over fifty
- 3:36Speaker 2: thousand dollars.
- 3:37Speaker 4: Nice fifty grand. Good job Angie and the staff and
- 3:41Speaker 4: the sponsors and of course the people that bought the
- 3:44Speaker 4: tickets as well, and everything out there JQ Dickets and
- 3:46Speaker 4: Salt Works working out okay for you? For the location, Oh, it.
- 3:50Speaker 2: Was perfect and I think we are going to plan
- 3:52Speaker 2: to go back next year as well.
- 3:53Speaker 4: All Right, good news. It's a great place out there.
- 3:55Speaker 4: They're great people to work with. Let's talk about our
- 3:57Speaker 4: adopty please better the week. Picture posted on Facebook page
- 4:00Speaker 4: for me Dave Allen Radio and WHS Network Facebook also
- 4:03Speaker 4: at Dave A seventy on X tell us about Ladybug.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So, Ladybug is what I would call the perfect dog.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Any dog that is cat friendly, good with other dogs,
- 4:15Speaker 2: and kid friendly is just like golden ticket dog. They
- 4:19Speaker 2: can go anywhere. Really. She's about a year and a
- 4:21Speaker 2: half old, around fifty ish pounds, and she has stayed
- 4:25Speaker 2: an up to date on her vaccination. So if you
- 4:27Speaker 2: decide to adopt her, she can leave with you the
- 4:30Speaker 2: same day that you had dogged.
- 4:31Speaker 4: And you said you called her the perfect dog. I
- 4:34Speaker 4: mean she's good from what you told me. She's good
- 4:36Speaker 4: with kids, good with other dogs, and good with cats.
- 4:41Speaker 2: Yep, that's what I call the golden ticket dog.
- 4:42Speaker 4: Yes, a golden ticket dog. Ladybug's a great looking to
- 4:45Speaker 4: any idea. What kind of dog Ladybug is?
- 4:47Speaker 2: Hi that I'm not sure. She's just a West Virginia
- 4:51Speaker 2: brown and white dog.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Okay, Well, I's nothing wrong with that. I got again
- 4:54Speaker 4: Ladybugs picture posted Dave Allen Radio on Facebook, the WCCHS
- 4:58Speaker 4: Network Facebook page, and at DAVI on X Now, Angie,
- 5:01Speaker 4: you've had some big events other than just tuxes and
- 5:04Speaker 4: tails this week. You guys been kind of busy.
- 5:07Speaker 2: We have been really busy this week. Yesterday, Donate Life
- 5:11Speaker 2: West Virginia came up to Kasey Ha and spent some
- 5:16Speaker 2: time with us. They had sponsored adoption fees for dogs,
- 5:20Speaker 2: and each dog they got that they sponsored, they renamed
- 5:24Speaker 2: after an Oregon donor's dog. So we got a couple
- 5:28Speaker 2: dogs adopted from that, but we got to spend some
- 5:30Speaker 2: time with them as well, and it was a really
- 5:33Speaker 2: good time.
- 5:33Speaker 4: And I think our sister station V one hundred, I
- 5:36Speaker 4: think Logan Scott was up there yesterday too, so he
- 5:39Speaker 4: said everything went really well. Now in addition to all
- 5:43Speaker 4: that you've been doing in the community, you folks have
- 5:45Speaker 4: been quite busy. On your Facebook page, saw twenty three
- 5:49Speaker 4: cats and kittens and six dogs came in yesterday.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yeah, just yesterday alone, though I was part of the
- 5:57Speaker 2: crew that was in taking all twenty three of those cats.
- 6:00Speaker 2: Everyone is safe now and if you are interested in fostering,
- 6:03Speaker 2: because all of these cats and kittens are unweaned. They
- 6:07Speaker 2: need somewhere to grow big and strong to be available
- 6:09Speaker 2: for an option. Now is the time to come up
- 6:11Speaker 2: and tell us you are ready to foster.
- 6:12Speaker 4: I mean even by your numbers, and you folks are
- 6:15Speaker 4: super men and women up there. But let's I mean
- 6:18Speaker 4: twenty three total of twenty nine critters in one day.
- 6:22Speaker 2: That's a lot that is right now that bumps our
- 6:25Speaker 2: numbers up. I checked this morning. We're taking care of
- 6:28Speaker 2: four hundred and seven animals in our care currently two
- 6:30Speaker 2: hundred and thirty two of those being dogs and one
- 6:32Speaker 2: hundred and seventy five being cats. And that is a
- 6:35Speaker 2: lot of cats and dogs.
- 6:36Speaker 4: It is. Again we're talking with Age Gilla Water from
- 6:38Speaker 4: the Canal charlest Reumaine Association with this week's Adopt Me
- 6:41Speaker 4: Please Pet of the Week, brought to you by Almost
- 6:43Speaker 4: Having Interiors, family owned proudly serving the community for over
- 6:46Speaker 4: fifty years, specializing in custom line shades, shutters, upholstery and
- 6:50Speaker 4: beautifully crafted sown goods from homes to hospitals, classrooms to
- 6:53Speaker 4: commercial spaces. They do at all. They're looking it at
- 6:56Speaker 4: five sixteen D Street in South Charleston. I know you
- 6:59Speaker 4: all are a kicking on if your Bissell Pet Foundation
- 7:01Speaker 4: Adopts and Adoption special talk about that.
- 7:04Speaker 2: I yes, so this will. Pet Foundation hosts adoption events
- 7:08Speaker 2: called Empty the Shelters where we are able to offer
- 7:12Speaker 2: adoption fees at a discounted price, and we're kicking it
- 7:15Speaker 2: off this this go round with an Adoptions after Dark special.
- 7:19Speaker 2: And what that means is we're going to be open
- 7:21Speaker 2: until eleven PM tonight for anybody that's at work or
- 7:24Speaker 2: maybe has a you know, a game of some sort
- 7:27Speaker 2: in the evening time. We're going to be open till
- 7:29Speaker 2: eleven for you to come up, take advantage of these
- 7:32Speaker 2: discounted adoption fees and hopefully add to your family.
- 7:35Speaker 4: All Right, so you guys are going to be out
- 7:37Speaker 4: and about anywhere this weekend.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Not this weekend. I'm going to be there till eleven tonight,
- 7:42Speaker 2: so I won't be of much use tomorrow. Well.
- 7:45Speaker 4: I say that because we had a text here that
- 7:47Speaker 4: said with WVU legend Owen Schmidt being at the Dirty
- 7:49Speaker 4: Birds game tomorrow evening for a meet and greet, they
- 7:52Speaker 4: want to know if you thought about bringing some of
- 7:53Speaker 4: the animals over to the ballpark tomorrow night because it's
- 7:55Speaker 4: going to be a pack stadium. I don't want to
- 7:56Speaker 4: put pressure on you, but I just want to say
- 7:58Speaker 4: that's what a Texter said.
- 7:59Speaker 2: So that is something that I will have to air
- 8:03Speaker 2: quote chew on and see if we can make possible
- 8:05Speaker 2: with our team.
- 8:06Speaker 4: Well, speaking of which, I'm just throwing this out there.
- 8:09Speaker 4: Next weekend, this is next weekend. We have phone with
- 8:11Speaker 4: the dome. You got the V one hundred yard sales
- 8:14Speaker 4: Steven Jenny Rebfest going on in mar matt that actually
- 8:16Speaker 4: starts on Thursday. I think, so maybe if you got
- 8:19Speaker 4: the staff and you got the volunteers, maybe you can
- 8:21Speaker 4: hit up some of those events next week.
- 8:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:23Speaker 2: Absolutely, our stuff loves to get out into the community
- 8:25Speaker 2: and show off our dogs, so I will definitely try
- 8:28Speaker 2: to get that in the work.
- 8:29Speaker 4: All right, And what are you in need of as
- 8:30Speaker 4: far as donations go right now?
- 8:33Speaker 2: Right now, we're running extremely low on blankets, So any
- 8:36Speaker 2: type of blankets, howl or sheets, it can be used.
- 8:39Speaker 2: It can be brand new, We're not picky. And then
- 8:42Speaker 2: as always, Purina chow product so peurin a cat, purian
- 8:46Speaker 2: a dog peering a kit, or purre in a puppy
- 8:48Speaker 2: chow all right.
- 8:49Speaker 4: We did have a text that said, with the huge
- 8:52Speaker 4: intake of newborn kittens with no mamas, are you in
- 8:54Speaker 4: need of milk replacement and bottles?
- 8:58Speaker 2: We can always accept those donations. We actually had a
- 9:01Speaker 2: mommy cat be so kind yesterday and take in some
- 9:04Speaker 2: orphan babies that were not hers. So the guys that
- 9:06Speaker 2: we have currently are set, but in the future we
- 9:10Speaker 2: are expecting, you know, more orphan kittens to come in
- 9:13Speaker 2: and it's not always working out that mama cats will
- 9:15Speaker 2: take them, in which case we will need bottles, formula,
- 9:19Speaker 2: things of that nature. So we will always take those
- 9:21Speaker 2: their nature.
- 9:22Speaker 4: And you've got some great pictures on your Facebook page
- 9:24Speaker 4: this week with some of the animals that you took in.
- 9:27Speaker 4: I mean again, twenty nine in one day. That is
- 9:30Speaker 4: a lot. And what was the total and number of analysts?
- 9:32Speaker 4: Four oh seven? Is that what you said?
- 9:34Speaker 2: Four hundred and seven?
- 9:35Speaker 4: Yeah, burn seven. All right, Well, keep doing good things
- 9:37Speaker 4: up there, Angie, and we will talk again next week.
- 9:40Speaker 4: Thanks a lot, sounds great, have a good one you

- 10:46Speaker 9: Husband, father, and Christian constitutional conservative Chris Pritt is one
- 10:51Speaker 9: of us. That's why he puts our Mountain State values
- 10:54Speaker 9: of faith, family, and hard work first. A rock sovereign
- 10:58Speaker 9: fiscal conservative, Ruspritt has voted against every single tax increase
- 11:02Speaker 9: at the Capitol, and as inflation drives the cost of
- 11:05Speaker 9: everything up, Chris Pritt has fought to lower property taxes

- 11:12Speaker 9: Pro life because life is God's to give, not man's
- 11:15Speaker 9: to take. Pro gun because the Second Amendment is a
- 11:19Speaker 9: constitutional right. Pro Trump because the MAGA movement is finally
- 11:23Speaker 9: putting America first, crushing the woke transgender DEI left, and
- 11:27Speaker 9: securing the border to keep our communities safe from illegals
- 11:30Speaker 9: and the drugs and crime that come with them. On Tuesday,

- 14:08Speaker 4: the show now, Kanah County magistrate. Delbert Rausch, How you doing, man,
- 14:12Speaker 4: welcome the shelf.
- 14:13Speaker 5: Doing great, Dave? How are you?
- 14:15Speaker 4: I'm doing fine. What district are you?
- 14:17Speaker 3: It's a district thirteen. Okay, since we have thirteen magistrates,
- 14:21Speaker 3: now I would be Division thirteen.
- 14:23Speaker 4: You're lucky thirteen, lucky number thirteen.
- 14:25Speaker 5: Yes, sir.
- 14:26Speaker 4: Now you are named to the position last year after
- 14:29Speaker 4: the resignation of a city magistrate. Now you have to
- 14:32Speaker 4: run for the spot. So tell us about I had
- 14:34Speaker 4: you on when you were first appointed. But tell us
- 14:35Speaker 4: about Delbert roush Well.
- 14:39Speaker 5: I was born here in Charleston and grew up middle class,
- 14:46Speaker 5: hard working family.
- 14:47Speaker 3: My father was a Charleston firefighter, My grandfather was a
- 14:53Speaker 3: Charleston police officer, and.
- 14:57Speaker 4: You pretty much didn't have a choice to go into
- 14:59Speaker 4: anything else right now.
- 15:01Speaker 3: You know, as a young kid in nineteen eighty one,
- 15:04Speaker 3: I was probably I was around eight years old, and
- 15:06Speaker 3: my grandfather was shot and killed on the West Side,
- 15:10Speaker 3: and you know, from that point, you know, that can
- 15:13Speaker 3: be a traumatic experience. But I think at a young age,
- 15:17Speaker 3: I pretty much knew what I wanted to be when
- 15:19Speaker 3: I grew up. And you know, most kids always say
- 15:22Speaker 3: I want to be a police officer.
- 15:23Speaker 5: I want to be a.
- 15:24Speaker 3: Farman, and I think I knew I wanted to grow
- 15:27Speaker 3: up and become a law enforcement officer because I wanted
- 15:30Speaker 3: to help people.
- 15:31Speaker 5: And I've always had.
- 15:36Speaker 3: A knack of trying to be a problem solver, either
- 15:40Speaker 3: between friends or whomever. So I really enjoyed that I
- 15:46Speaker 3: did that for almost twenty six years and finish up
- 15:48Speaker 3: as a lieutenant on the Connell County Sheriff's Office, being
- 15:52Speaker 3: a shift commander on road patrol, and I was able
- 15:58Speaker 3: to get out and just really meet some wonderful people
- 16:00Speaker 3: throughout the county. And as I started getting older, you know,
- 16:06Speaker 3: you you don't recover from kicking indoors or chasing people
- 16:10Speaker 3: the way you used to. And you know, a couple
- 16:11Speaker 3: a couple of ibuprofens just wasn't doing it. So it
- 16:14Speaker 3: was time for me to hang up the badging guns.
- 16:17Speaker 4: All right, we'll talk about the experience there and how
- 16:21Speaker 4: it has translated into making you and your opinion an
- 16:24Speaker 4: effective magistrate.
- 16:27Speaker 3: I think, uh, you know, I would review cases as
- 16:31Speaker 3: a supervisor, and I would read everyone's reports. So I
- 16:36Speaker 3: would go over the reports towards the end a shift,
- 16:39Speaker 3: and I would look at what the charges were based
- 16:43Speaker 3: on the narrative that was written, and there was sometimes
- 16:49Speaker 3: you could add more charges to those or maybe something
- 16:53Speaker 3: could have been charged incorrectly, right, I mean, it's it's
- 16:56Speaker 3: all about interpretation and reading the codes. So I think,
- 17:00Speaker 3: you know, as a magistrate, people bring things to me
- 17:04Speaker 3: and I can read it and I can look and
- 17:06Speaker 3: see I'm like, Okay, well this doesn't really fit or
- 17:12Speaker 3: you need to take another look at this.
- 17:14Speaker 4: I think sometimes and I think you and I may
- 17:16Speaker 4: have talked about it before. I know I've talked about
- 17:18Speaker 4: it with other magistrates. To Delbert Is, we have this
- 17:22Speaker 4: image of you know, what we want the court system
- 17:25Speaker 4: in America to be, and you folks and the magistrates
- 17:30Speaker 4: and I'll put judges and everybody else there. I mean,
- 17:32Speaker 4: you got to go by the law. And there's probably
- 17:35Speaker 4: times that about trying to put thoughts in your head,
- 17:38Speaker 4: but probably times that you wish it was a little
- 17:40Speaker 4: bit tougher or you wish that you could do a
- 17:42Speaker 4: little bit, but you have a law book to go
- 17:45Speaker 4: by it and that's what you have to go by.
- 17:46Speaker 5: Well, yeah, yeah, you have.
- 17:47Speaker 3: To be fair and partial and you have to stick
- 17:49Speaker 3: to the letter of the law. And I think you know,
- 17:54Speaker 3: over the past three months, I have probably set for
- 18:00Speaker 3: close to five hundred cases on criminal and civil cases,
- 18:04Speaker 3: and I try to keep a busy docket. I try
- 18:08Speaker 3: to keep things moving. I remember one of the big
- 18:12Speaker 3: things was I've always felt that when you go to
- 18:15Speaker 3: court and as a law enforcement officer, a victim, a witness,
- 18:21Speaker 3: you really shouldn't have to sit for two hours at
- 18:23Speaker 3: a time. And sometimes that just happens, not by malice
- 18:29Speaker 3: or anything. It just cases get backed up. But I
- 18:32Speaker 3: try to move everything along because you know, the victims,
- 18:35Speaker 3: witnesses and even the defendants have a right to have
- 18:39Speaker 3: their case heard and dealt with, whether whether it moves
- 18:42Speaker 3: forward or dismissed.
- 18:44Speaker 5: So I'm talking to.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Delbert Roush, the third who is Kenaw County imagined appointed
- 18:48Speaker 4: that position. He is on the ballot. You'll see him
- 18:50Speaker 4: on the ballot if you are early voting or if
- 18:54Speaker 4: you vote on election. David Dave Allen showing five any
- 18:56Speaker 4: line brought to you in part by the all New
- 18:58Speaker 4: Generations forward a hurricane visit generations for dot com. Talk
- 19:02Speaker 4: about that time on the bench, Delbert, any any surprises.
- 19:07Speaker 4: I know it was gonna be even though you've been
- 19:08Speaker 4: in magistrate court a lot as an officer. I'm sure
- 19:11Speaker 4: that there was probably a couple of things that maybe
- 19:13Speaker 4: it was a little bit of a learning curve for
- 19:15Speaker 4: you being on that side of the bench. Talk about
- 19:18Speaker 4: your your time so far.
- 19:19Speaker 5: Uh you know, I.
- 19:20Speaker 3: Think, uh, the civil side is uh is interesting. You know,
- 19:27Speaker 3: so many different cases that come up, and uh, you know,
- 19:32Speaker 3: I always say that magistrate court is the gateway to
- 19:35Speaker 3: the rest of the judicial system because no matter if
- 19:39Speaker 3: somebody comes in on a felony rest, they get arraigned
- 19:44Speaker 3: with us, and then later that goes upstairs to the
- 19:47Speaker 3: circuit judges. And uh, so you'll you'll have protective p s,
- 19:52Speaker 3: o S, d vps, wrongful occupations, the regular or civil cases.
- 20:02Speaker 3: So usually we schedule I like to try to schedule
- 20:07Speaker 3: when we all do. It is like a week at
- 20:09Speaker 3: a time you'll have set aside for your jury trials
- 20:13Speaker 3: or a week of time you do your misdemeanor docket
- 20:17Speaker 3: or runfle occupation dockets. And Connall County, Uh, just being
- 20:24Speaker 3: new to this, Cannall County seems to be just continuously.
- 20:28Speaker 4: Busy, the largest county in the state.
- 20:30Speaker 3: Largest county in the state, and uh, and that's what
- 20:33Speaker 3: I said. It's been a really good learning curve, you know,
- 20:37Speaker 3: three months in and it's uh, it's constant work. I
- 20:40Speaker 3: mean I like to be at work. I like to
- 20:42Speaker 3: be there early. I like to review and read my cases.
- 20:45Speaker 3: That way, I know what's going to happen the next day.
- 20:47Speaker 3: So when I go on the bench, I can sit
- 20:49Speaker 3: there and when the defense or the prosecution is going
- 20:53Speaker 3: over a case, I've already read it. I know what's coming,
- 20:56Speaker 3: I know what they're going to say, and I like to.
- 21:00Speaker 5: Try to be prepared that way.
- 21:02Speaker 3: I feel like I'm helping the citizens better by being
- 21:05Speaker 3: a better judicial officer.
- 21:08Speaker 4: How's the campaign been so far?
- 21:10Speaker 5: Wow?
- 21:10Speaker 4: Yeah, that's does this not I mean you were appointed before, yes,
- 21:14Speaker 4: but you have you're having to run for the for
- 21:16Speaker 4: the job this time. How has that been.
- 21:18Speaker 3: I've had a lot of support from friends and family
- 21:21Speaker 3: and colleagues, and you know, the whole campaign process is
- 21:26Speaker 3: new to me.
- 21:27Speaker 5: Of course. You know, my mother, God rest her.
- 21:29Speaker 3: If she was alive, she loved politics. She was just
- 21:32Speaker 3: always into politics every four years, so she would have
- 21:36Speaker 3: loved this.
- 21:36Speaker 5: But it's it's been. It's been good.
- 21:39Speaker 3: I've got out and uh, talked to people, knocked on
- 21:42Speaker 3: some doors, put some signs up. People have been real
- 21:45Speaker 3: receptive to me. There was a certain area I was
- 21:50Speaker 3: out putting some signs up, started talking to people and
- 21:53Speaker 3: I had a guy kind of look at me and he.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Goes, I know you.
- 21:55Speaker 3: I'm like maybe, and he said, well, if you didn't
- 21:59Speaker 3: have the beard I remember for you, Lieutenant Rouse, You're
- 22:01Speaker 3: always not you know, just I'm running into people that
- 22:06Speaker 3: even that I've dealt with that, you know, have been
- 22:08Speaker 3: supportive of the fact to what I'm doing.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Now, what do you hear when you are out hanging signs,
- 22:14Speaker 4: going door to door, campaign forums or whatever. What is
- 22:17Speaker 4: it that you hear from the public, not about you,
- 22:20Speaker 4: but about magistrate court in general.
- 22:22Speaker 5: Well, a lot of people.
- 22:24Speaker 3: Like to know what the magistrate's role is, and I
- 22:27Speaker 3: kind of explained that to them. Sometimes they they want
- 22:34Speaker 3: to know more about Well, if they file something and
- 22:40Speaker 3: somebody's arrested, why why do they just get out or whatever?
- 22:45Speaker 3: And I don't go into detail with that. It's you know,
- 22:50Speaker 3: I just explained to them that if you have a
- 22:53Speaker 3: certain case and the penalty would be five hundred dollars,
- 22:59Speaker 3: well you can't go more than three times that amount
- 23:03Speaker 3: on a bond, and of course that bond could be
- 23:06Speaker 3: fifteen dollars cash property. Surety Kennell County started using bondsman
- 23:13Speaker 3: a few years ago, so I explained that to him.
- 23:18Speaker 3: It's not that a magistrate just will throw out a
- 23:23Speaker 3: number and and and set a bond on somebody. So
- 23:27Speaker 3: you know, again you have a certain ethical procedure to
- 23:34Speaker 3: follow when you're setting bonds, and and bonds are.
- 23:37Speaker 5: Set to make sure that people will show up for court.
- 23:41Speaker 3: So you have to take into the fact that, Okay,
- 23:43Speaker 3: if you look this person up and he has four
- 23:46Speaker 3: kpises in his history, you know, well, do you think
- 23:50Speaker 3: he's going to show up?
- 23:52Speaker 5: Maybe?
- 23:52Speaker 3: Maybe not, but you have to take that into consideration.
- 23:55Speaker 3: So it's it's not just you know, you have to
- 23:59Speaker 3: look at all asked x when when setting bonds, and
- 24:02Speaker 3: you know you have to be again fair and impartial
- 24:04Speaker 3: to everyone and give people people the benefit of the
- 24:07Speaker 3: doubts sometimes.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Do you have a website or Facebook or anything you
- 24:10Speaker 4: want to put up there.
- 24:11Speaker 3: I have a Facebook page. It's a Delvert Ralsh Kennall
- 24:14Speaker 3: County Magistrate and uh A, no website, just a Facebook, okay.
- 24:21Speaker 4: Final thirty wathould someone vote to keep Delbert roush the
- 24:24Speaker 4: third in the in that magistrate's position.
- 24:27Speaker 3: David, you know, it's always been kind of hard to
- 24:30Speaker 3: talk about myself, but I feel like I'm fair and partial.
- 24:34Speaker 3: I bring integrity and justice to the bench.
- 24:36Speaker 4: I have.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Years of law enforcement knowledge and experience, and I generally care.
- 24:47Speaker 5: About the people. But look me up, look me up
- 24:49Speaker 5: on the internet. You know.
- 24:51Speaker 3: I I truly care about the citizens Kanall County, and
- 24:55Speaker 3: I believe everybody, everybody should have faith in me because
- 24:59Speaker 3: I I'm there to do the job for them.
- 25:03Speaker 4: All right, Which is the best of luck again, Delbert Roshid,
- 25:07Speaker 4: who was appointed to the matter's position now running for
- 25:09Speaker 4: that job, appreciate you being your best of luck.

- 28:16Speaker 4: The Main Street Spring Festival going to be a big
- 28:18Speaker 4: event at Barry Hills Country Club in June, helping to
- 28:20Speaker 4: celebrate America's two hundred fifteth birthday. Here to talk about
- 28:22Speaker 4: it from the Craig pattent House, Pad Moyers and Josh Higginbotham.
- 28:26Speaker 4: Pat will start with you, good morning and welcome to
- 28:28Speaker 4: the show.
- 28:28Speaker 13: Good morning, Thank you very much, a pleasure to be here.
- 28:31Speaker 4: And mister Higginbotham, it's always a pleasure to see you
- 28:33Speaker 4: on the shower you again. All right. First, tell us
- 28:36Speaker 4: about the Crake Patton House, give us the history, tell
- 28:41Speaker 4: us where it is, tell us about the whole thing.
- 28:43Speaker 13: Pat, We're very proud of our Craig Patton House, which
- 28:46Speaker 13: is located on Canoll Bulevard, one mile east of the
- 28:51Speaker 13: Capitol building. The house dates back to eighteen thirty four
- 28:57Speaker 13: when it was built by James Craig who came into
- 29:00Speaker 13: the valley because his father had come with George Washington
- 29:05Speaker 13: to survey the land. So James Craig was very familiar
- 29:10Speaker 13: with the territory and he wanted to come in here
- 29:13Speaker 13: and settle, which he did and married a local woman,
- 29:17Speaker 13: Julie Shrewsbury, and they built this beautiful house called the Elms.
- 29:24Speaker 13: The first location of the house was about where on
- 29:28Speaker 13: Virginia Street, near the Sacred Heart Playground. Then the house
- 29:33Speaker 13: later on was moved to Lee Street where the current
- 29:38Speaker 13: fire station exists, and then through the auspices of the
- 29:43Speaker 13: City of Charleston, we were able to obtain land by
- 29:47Speaker 13: the Daniel Boone Park and the house was now situated there.
- 29:52Speaker 13: So the origin of the house is eighteen thirty four
- 29:57Speaker 13: doctor by James Craig, who came into the valleys as
- 30:02Speaker 13: an attorney and later became a rector of Saint John's
- 30:07Speaker 13: Episcopal Church. The next occupants a little later on, in
- 30:13Speaker 13: eighteen fifty seven, were George and Susan Patten, and he
- 30:21Speaker 13: is the grandfather of General Patten of Second World War fame,
- 30:28Speaker 13: so it has that Craig Patten history to it, and
- 30:33Speaker 13: point out it's the only house historic house in the
- 30:37Speaker 13: valley that's opened on a daily basis to visitors. So
- 30:41Speaker 13: we're very excited to be able to expand our ground.
- 30:45Speaker 13: We're now in a capital campaign. We're making it handicap
- 30:50Speaker 13: accessible and it's going to be just and some other nice,
- 30:55Speaker 13: very nice editions that will be lovely.
- 30:57Speaker 4: And there may be a lot of people that are
- 30:59Speaker 4: listening to that weren't even aware that this house was there.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Could they?
- 31:03Speaker 4: Yes, we're going to try to change the josh the
- 31:06Speaker 4: suck to you.
- 31:06Speaker 8: Mom.
- 31:07Speaker 14: Let's talk about your involvement in all this. Yeah, well,
- 31:09Speaker 14: Pat and I go to church together. We go to
- 31:11Speaker 14: First Presby right next door, and you may actually some
- 31:15Speaker 14: of some listeners may know her name. She was previously
- 31:18Speaker 14: the head of the Society of CPAs in West Virginia
- 31:21Speaker 14: and so she's got a lot of very good connections.
- 31:23Speaker 14: But we've gone to church together for years now and
- 31:26Speaker 14: she invited me to be part of this process because
- 31:29Speaker 14: they are a five oh one c three nonprofit, and
- 31:32Speaker 14: this campaign is to obviously raise money to grow the
- 31:36Speaker 14: organization and to update the facilities, but more importantly, it's
- 31:40Speaker 14: to celebrate America's two hundred and fiftieth birthday. Given their history,
- 31:45Speaker 14: their connections with George Washington, their connections with General George Patten,
- 31:49Speaker 14: a lot of people don't know his family, the Pattent
- 31:52Speaker 14: family right here in Kannack County. So it is a
- 31:56Speaker 14: huge connection to America's history, to America's culture, sure, and
- 32:01Speaker 14: we want to recognize that by throwing this event at
- 32:05Speaker 14: Barry Hills.
- 32:06Speaker 4: And it's going to be on June twenty seventh. It'll
- 32:08Speaker 4: start at eleven thirty in the morning. Pat talk about
- 32:12Speaker 4: the planning for that, what's going on that day, and
- 32:15Speaker 4: just kind of tell us about the event that day.
- 32:18Speaker 13: I think it's going to be a very exciting day.
- 32:21Speaker 13: We are going to have some special patriotic music, a
- 32:26Speaker 13: brass group coming into play, and there'll be music in
- 32:30Speaker 13: the four years people enter patriotic music. And then a
- 32:35Speaker 13: highlight of the day will be a reenactment of Patrick
- 32:39Speaker 13: Henry done by an actor from Philadelphia. And so I
- 32:44Speaker 13: think it's going to be a lot of fiery speeches
- 32:48Speaker 13: and rousing music. It will be quite special, and then
- 32:53Speaker 13: a lovely lunch with a champagne toast to celebrate two
- 32:57Speaker 13: hundred and fifty years of our country.
- 33:00Speaker 4: And I think you're going to be seeing a whole
- 33:01Speaker 4: lot more, you know, ahead of the two hundred and fifty.
- 33:04Speaker 4: I know that Regatta's got some, you know, a lot
- 33:06Speaker 4: of things going on in conjunction with that, and a
- 33:08Speaker 4: lot of our communities, not only here in Nicknall Valley,
- 33:11Speaker 4: West Virginia, but all around the state. And now I
- 33:12Speaker 4: know you and all around the country, Josh, I know
- 33:15Speaker 4: you're a history nerd, history buff, I should say, not
- 33:17Speaker 4: nerd history. I'll take the title of nerd. So I
- 33:20Speaker 4: know you're kind of in your element with this thing here.
- 33:23Speaker 14: Oh yes, yes, And that's exactly why we're doing this.
- 33:27Speaker 14: And so I do want to recognize some of our
- 33:29Speaker 14: sponsors already. Loved Ones in Home Care is a title sponsor.
- 33:33Speaker 14: Art and Virginia King have also they are a platinum sponsor.
- 33:38Speaker 14: Several other sponsors for this event are are going to
- 33:41Speaker 14: be announced in the coming weeks. And so it's not
- 33:45Speaker 14: just me, it's other people here in the community in Kanawah, County,
- 33:49Speaker 14: know the history of this museum, of this location, and
- 33:54Speaker 14: recognize the importance of our patriotic duty of celebrating our
- 34:00Speaker 14: two hundred and fiftieth birthday and the need for sponsors.
- 34:03Speaker 14: I'm sure you would welcome more, right, Yes, I do
- 34:08Speaker 14: know that there's some federal appropriations that are coming in
- 34:11Speaker 14: later in the year. And also I think we've raised
- 34:15Speaker 14: almost twenty thousand from this event, but we are actively
- 34:19Speaker 14: looking for more sponsors. If anyone wants to look at
- 34:23Speaker 14: the sponsorship packages, they can check out the website Craigpatenthouse
- 34:28Speaker 14: dot org. We also have a very active Facebook page
- 34:32Speaker 14: and we have an event on Facebook through event bright
- 34:36Speaker 14: which I'd be happy to send the links to folks.
- 34:40Speaker 14: But ranges the sponsorships range from five hundred dollars all
- 34:43Speaker 14: the way up to ten thousand dollars, and as I said,
- 34:46Speaker 14: we've got about twenty thousand or so in commitments and
- 34:50Speaker 14: checks already sent, with more on the way.
- 34:54Speaker 13: Dave, I'd like to point out that our location, I
- 34:57Speaker 13: think is very important. We're on Root six, the Midland Trail,
- 35:02Speaker 13: and we like to think of ourselves as kind of
- 35:04Speaker 13: a gateway into the new National Park, and we are
- 35:11Speaker 13: promoting that so that people will stop by and we'll
- 35:14Speaker 13: give them information about how to go all the way
- 35:17Speaker 13: up to the National Park. And we are working we
- 35:21Speaker 13: have a consortium, the Midland Trail Consortium that we're working
- 35:25Speaker 13: with the cities or the towns along the way and
- 35:31Speaker 13: some of the businesses. So it's an important area.
- 35:36Speaker 4: How many visitors, I mean just a ballpark figure do
- 35:38Speaker 4: you think come through there during the year. I mean
- 35:40Speaker 4: you get you get school groups or anything like that,
- 35:42Speaker 4: or historical groups, you get you that sort of thing.
- 35:44Speaker 13: We have both. I can't give you an exact number.
- 35:49Speaker 13: I would say it's probably around five hundred visitors a year.
- 35:54Speaker 13: Many of the people coming through our tourists who see
- 36:00Speaker 13: they see are advertising on various places and they stop
- 36:04Speaker 13: in and then we give them materials so they can
- 36:07Speaker 13: they can continue their journey. But it's very, very satisfying
- 36:14Speaker 13: to see people from out of state come in.
- 36:16Speaker 4: It's it always, you know, when I was spend a
- 36:18Speaker 4: lot of time at the Capitol, the amount of people,
- 36:21Speaker 4: uh that and and like I was kind of getting
- 36:23Speaker 4: my friend Josh a little you know, having a little
- 36:25Speaker 4: fun with him by being a history nerd. But they're
- 36:26Speaker 4: a buff But there are a lot of people that
- 36:30Speaker 4: when they go to Town's Day, they really eat this
- 36:32Speaker 4: stuff up. And I'm I'm kind of that way too.
- 36:34Speaker 4: And when I was at the Capitol, I mean the
- 36:37Speaker 4: amount of people that I guess I just wasn't prepared
- 36:39Speaker 4: for the amount of tourists that come to the Capitol.
- 36:41Speaker 4: But they don't always just go to the Capitol. They
- 36:43Speaker 4: get they get often and Charleston and Josh, you know this, John,
- 36:46Speaker 4: I mean, Charleston does have a lot of historical.
- 36:49Speaker 13: Sites, absolutely, and it's it's very gratifying to have them
- 36:55Speaker 13: come by after they've been to the Capitol or to
- 36:58Speaker 13: other places and they are we are spending more than
- 37:01Speaker 13: one day here. Many of them are staying overnight.
- 37:04Speaker 4: And now this event's going to be June twenty seventh,
- 37:06Speaker 4: starts at eleven thirty Berry Hills Country Club. Josh, give
- 37:10Speaker 4: us the information websites, social media and give us the
- 37:13Speaker 4: whole thing.
- 37:14Speaker 14: Yeah, so they can find us if they're interested in
- 37:16Speaker 14: tickets or sponsorships at the Crake Patent House Facebook page.
- 37:21Speaker 14: We also are on event bright for this particular celebration,
- 37:25Speaker 14: and then our website is Crakpatenthouse dot org. Folks can
- 37:30Speaker 14: also reach out to me through social media, email, text, whichever.
- 37:36Speaker 14: I'm available publicly on social media, and we are actively
- 37:41Speaker 14: looking for sponsors and selling tickets all the way up
- 37:44Speaker 14: till the day of the event June twenty.
- 37:46Speaker 13: Seventh, hoping that we well, we may have a sellout.
- 37:51Speaker 13: We'll have to see.
- 37:52Speaker 4: I think so that's a plan. That's a plan.
- 37:54Speaker 3: We'll have to.
- 37:55Speaker 13: Yeah, better get their their DIBs in early and.
- 37:57Speaker 4: Get those tickets. We may have a sell And you know,
- 38:00Speaker 4: I think you would be remiss, Pat if you didn't
- 38:03Speaker 4: call it you were referring to the foyer, if you
- 38:05Speaker 4: didn't refer to it as the Moyers foyer.
- 38:07Speaker 13: I think you should do that. I just got a
- 38:09Speaker 13: nice rink put oh I did. That's a very good
- 38:11Speaker 13: idea to get one from the day. Well, yeah, he
- 38:13Speaker 13: has the Moyers for Josh shaking motha, Matt Moyers. I
- 38:16Speaker 13: appreciate you both being here.

- 40:15Speaker 4: Welcome back to the show. Twelve minutes away from ten
- 40:20Speaker 4: Texts said, the house is in such an odd, out
- 40:22Speaker 4: of the way location, why not move it to the
- 40:24Speaker 4: capital complex, such as beside the Culture Center or the
- 40:27Speaker 4: lawn between the Governor's mansion and the Capitol building. Well,
- 40:30Speaker 4: I don't know if that is possible. If it's possible,
- 40:35Speaker 4: but I'm sure they're listening in the green room right now.
- 40:38Speaker 2: Uh, let me.
- 40:40Speaker 4: Knock out a couple of other texts, and we're going
- 40:41Speaker 4: to go to the City of Hurricane. Texts says California
- 40:46Speaker 4: has the fourth largest economy in the world, and we
- 40:48Speaker 4: have Republicans attacking the Democrats that run if they need
- 40:52Speaker 4: to get their own house in order because it's burning
- 40:54Speaker 4: down around them. That says a texture. Tex says all
- 40:57Speaker 4: things we need on an everyday basis a sky under Trump,
- 41:00Speaker 4: from gas, food, utilities, you name it. Texts says gas
- 41:07Speaker 4: is four forty national average. Remember back in twenty twenty
- 41:09Speaker 4: two when Russia invaded Ukraine and gas shot up like crazy,
- 41:13Speaker 4: Republicans were one grunt away from blowing a gasket and
- 41:15Speaker 4: simultaneously getting an aneurysm and other things. Well, the current
- 41:21Speaker 4: silence about high gas prices is very noticeable. Perhaps it
- 41:24Speaker 4: was never about high gas prices or the economy, says
- 41:29Speaker 4: a Texter. All right, big happenings in the City of
- 41:31Speaker 4: Hurricane with their annual main Street Spring Festival here to
- 41:34Speaker 4: talk about Hurricane. Mayor Scott Edwards and the director of
- 41:37Speaker 4: Fun for the City of Hurricane, she actually has a
- 41:40Speaker 4: different title, but we call her the director of Fun.
- 41:43Speaker 4: Amanda Smith. Rami mayor will start with you a good morning, sir,
- 41:47Speaker 4: and welcome to the show.
- 41:49Speaker 7: Good morning. How are you doing today?
- 41:51Speaker 4: I am doing fine. And a director of fun, Rami,
- 41:53Speaker 4: how are you doing?
- 41:55Speaker 15: I'm well?
- 41:56Speaker 2: Thank you.
- 41:57Speaker 4: She actually has.
- 42:00Speaker 7: Our assistant City Major, but she runs all the events
- 42:04Speaker 7: and all the kids in Hurricane Nova is a director
- 42:07Speaker 7: of phone because she's the the person that does all
- 42:10Speaker 7: this and he's the most fun person I know.
- 42:12Speaker 13: And just so you know how to get that job.
- 42:15Speaker 4: Yeah, and Amanda, just so you know, it was it
- 42:17Speaker 4: was Mayor Edwards who told me to call you that,
- 42:19Speaker 4: just so you know. Okay, I figured you figured that out,
- 42:22Speaker 4: all right, all right, all right, So the big festival
- 42:24Speaker 4: is going on tomorrow. Either one of you have director
- 42:27Speaker 4: of Fun. Let's have you do it. Start with everything
- 42:29Speaker 4: going on, the time, the location, the place, give us
- 42:31Speaker 4: the stuff.
- 42:33Speaker 7: Yep.
- 42:33Speaker 15: So the Main Street Spring Festival is our annual let's
- 42:36Speaker 15: get everybody back out and about. It's been a long winter.
- 42:39Speaker 15: This is springtime now, so we're looking forward to it.
- 42:42Speaker 15: It will be on Main Street between the A to
- 42:46Speaker 15: Z Storage area and Joe's bell Knapp where the old
- 42:50Speaker 15: fire station used to be from one to five pm.
- 42:55Speaker 4: Mayor. Sounds like it's going to be a great Dame.
- 42:58Speaker 7: It's going to be a wonder dat tomorrow. We've been
- 43:00Speaker 7: doing this about about nineteen or twenty years, this Main
- 43:03Speaker 7: Street Spring Festival, and there's going to be you know,
- 43:06Speaker 7: shopping on main Street and all that type of thing.
- 43:09Speaker 7: But during the festival there will be a magician, you know,
- 43:11Speaker 7: and I love magicians, face painting, that's all you Dave.
- 43:15Speaker 7: And of course you know our craft vendors. You know,
- 43:19Speaker 7: there's photo ops, carnival games, inflatables and guess what, it's.
- 43:23Speaker 4: All free, all free.
- 43:25Speaker 7: It's absolutely all free, and we love free. We have
- 43:28Speaker 7: a ton of sponsors, but it's it's all free. So
- 43:33Speaker 7: that's what's all about. And like a man it's said,
- 43:34Speaker 7: it's about getting everybody back outside. It's time to gather
- 43:39Speaker 7: people in Hurricane and really it's Putnam County and all around.
- 43:42Speaker 7: We'll have people from many counties come to this.
- 43:44Speaker 4: Oh they always do. I mean it's always a huge event.
- 43:48Speaker 7: Yeah, and there's will be some food trucks on site. Amanda,
- 43:52Speaker 7: who is that this year? It's I can't remember.
- 43:54Speaker 15: Yeah, we've got wild and wonderful roles. They have more
- 43:57Speaker 15: than just pepperoni rolls, lots of interesting types of roles.
- 44:02Speaker 15: Caffeine and Chaos which has your dirty sodas and coffees
- 44:05Speaker 15: and all of that, and then straggle pop kettle corn.
- 44:08Speaker 15: But we also encourage everybody to check out the local
- 44:12Speaker 15: downtown restaurants, restaurants around the city while you're out and about,
- 44:16Speaker 15: so we've got food for you on site. But we
- 44:18Speaker 15: also want to encourage everybody to eat local no matter
- 44:21Speaker 15: where you are.
- 44:22Speaker 4: Indeed, then again we're talking and you.
- 44:23Speaker 7: Know, and you know they can give to jose Bell
- 44:25Speaker 7: Napp Sergio's. They can take a five minute walk around
- 44:29Speaker 7: the corner and hit the Farley hot Dogs. So there's
- 44:32Speaker 7: theres all kinds of food.
- 44:33Speaker 4: You've got a lot of good stuff going on there
- 44:36Speaker 4: in Hurricane. And I think sometimes you know and you
- 44:38Speaker 4: know the I don't know whether you know this or not,
- 44:41Speaker 4: Mayor Edwards, but TJ. Meadows has named me the mayor
- 44:44Speaker 4: of tays Valley. So you've got Hurricane, Randy's got Winfield. Uh,
- 44:48Speaker 4: but just so you know, I am the Mayor of
- 44:50Speaker 4: tays Valley.
- 44:50Speaker 7: Nearly mayor. You're the mayor of Tay's Valley. Wow, that's
- 44:53Speaker 7: I love that boiler things real quick, Yeah, if we've
- 44:57Speaker 7: got just a moment. Yeah, Bearwood Company there hosting a
- 45:00Speaker 7: paint party. You can buy an ornament, a ferry door
- 45:04Speaker 7: or what's you need to cut out and paint it
- 45:05Speaker 7: on site. And that's right on Main Street. Studies Guy's Boutique.
- 45:09Speaker 7: They'll have a lot of extra fun with some jewelry

- 49:32Speaker 4: is a company out of Florida which owns some buildings
- 49:34Speaker 4: in Charleston, now facing criminal charges over fire code violations.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Now the charges for the Belvedere apartments, because you know
- 49:41Speaker 4: they owned several buildings that quite troublesome around the City
- 49:44Speaker 4: of Charleston charges filed with the management groups too. We
- 49:47Speaker 4: have photos and the story posted this morning by Chris
- 49:50Speaker 4: Lawrence at wv metronews dot com. TJ. Meadows is here.
- 49:55Speaker 4: How you know my friend, good buddy, I like that shirt? Well,
- 49:58Speaker 4: thank you. I like the shirt you have on, because
- 50:01Speaker 4: I had on the same one yesterday, not Metro news pullover,
- 50:04Speaker 4: not exactly that one. But yeah, I think you missed
- 50:08Speaker 4: the memo yesterday because Wilson had one on, I had
- 50:12Speaker 4: one on the A train, Anthony Harmon had one on,
- 50:15Speaker 4: and Logan Scott all had one on yesterday. So you're
- 50:17Speaker 4: a day late, buddy. I'm always a day late and
- 50:18Speaker 4: a dollar short, as they say. Have you calmed down
- 50:21Speaker 4: a little bit after your end of show rant yesterday? Well, look,
- 50:24Speaker 4: I don't know that I was all that raged just
- 50:27Speaker 4: for you, because you're just always normally so laid back
- 50:30Speaker 4: in case people weren't listening.
- 50:31Speaker 7: What was it?
- 50:31Speaker 4: I'm gonna get hi what just Ryan? I'm gonna get
- 50:33Speaker 4: him going again? So what was it that had you
- 50:36Speaker 4: so riled up?
- 50:36Speaker 7: There?
- 50:37Speaker 16: So these ads we've been talking about how crazy they are,
- 50:39Speaker 16: and there's an ad out from the Tom Willis campaign
- 50:42Speaker 16: and look, I'm not shilling for Senator Capito here, as
- 50:46Speaker 16: I've been accused stuff. But it's a picture of Capito
- 50:49Speaker 16: and Pulosi. It's a real picture at the congressional softball game.
- 50:54Speaker 16: Capito has played in that for years and they're having
- 50:56Speaker 16: a lighthearted exchange. Heaven forbid, here we go. Heaven forbid
- 51:02Speaker 16: that two lawmakers can get along at a congressional softball
- 51:06Speaker 16: game that benefits breast cancer and be civil to one
- 51:10Speaker 16: another and still disagree politically. Is that not what we want?
