- 0:40SPEAKER_06: Welcome in, everybody, to the Telic and Tech Podcast.
- 0:42SPEAKER_06: I am your host, Steven Rodriguez.
- 0:44SPEAKER_06: My co-host, Tristan McGonagall, is here.
- 0:47SPEAKER_06: Tristan, how was your bye week, good sir?
- 0:51SPEAKER_04: It was good, dude.
- 0:52SPEAKER_04: I didn't watch a single second of college football.
- 0:56SPEAKER_06: Why?
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 0:57SPEAKER_06: Not a fan.
- 0:58SPEAKER_04: Not a true fan.
- 0:59SPEAKER_04: I don't I do not like the sport.
- 1:01SPEAKER_04: I am out on college football.
- 1:03SPEAKER_04: It's no longer the sport I know and love.
- 1:06SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 1:07SPEAKER_04: So I'm I'm out on it.
- 1:09SPEAKER_04: Um just kidding.
- 1:11SPEAKER_04: Uh, but you know, I'm not kidding about not watching college football.
- 1:14SPEAKER_04: I still very much enjoy it when tech's winning.
- 1:16SPEAKER_04: But yeah, no, it was it's nice.
- 1:17SPEAKER_04: You know, it was kind of nice to have a weekend off that so I can actually uh uh I couldn't say no to my wife about going and doing anything, you know, because like there's no tech on.
- 1:26SPEAKER_04: So there's no way.
- 1:28SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:29SPEAKER_06: Oh wow, you had to spend time with your wife.
- 1:31SPEAKER_06: What a what a shame.
- 1:33SPEAKER_04: I know what I I I I'm a gentleman.
- 1:36SPEAKER_04: Uh I not a scholar.
- 1:38SPEAKER_06: Not a scholar, but a gentleman.
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: I am a gentleman, so now she can't say anything, whatever, you know, I I I don't do something because I'll be hey, remember that one weekend when I didn't watch any football.
- 1:52SPEAKER_06: I watched no football, even though this was probably the worst week of football that there could have been, considering there were no good games.
- 1:58SPEAKER_06: No good games.
- 1:59SPEAKER_06: Uh well, USC Oregon, I guess, was a good matchup that was not really a good game, that Oregon just ended up picking their butt.
- 2:07SPEAKER_06: Uh, but no major upsets, no nothing really happening, and it's now the final week of the regular season of college football, and we're all very excited about what's to come because there are a lot of crazy matchups coming up, including one involving your Texas Tech Red Raiders, which is pretty low on the list, to be honest, if people are just watching college football and they're like, oh, Tech West Virginia, it's not it's not high.
- 2:33SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of rivalry games going on, a lot of playoff implications, a lot of Big 12 implications.
- 2:38SPEAKER_06: We're gonna talk about all that.
- 2:40SPEAKER_06: But before I start here, I want to talk coaching carousel because I think it's interesting what's going on right now in college football.
- 2:50SPEAKER_06: They announced this week Dave Aranda staying at Baylor.
- 2:56SPEAKER_06: And I wanted to get your thoughts on this whole situation because it seems like it's the craziest coaching carousel that we've seen in a long time here in college football, right now.
- 3:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, if if you want to stay close to home with Dave Aranda, that's that's cool with me.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: Uh just start to kind of kick it off.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: I'm of the mind of I don't really hate the move from Baylor keeping Dave Aranda.
- 3:21SPEAKER_04: I'm sure all Baylor fans are pretty pissed off about it.
- 3:24SPEAKER_04: Obviously, selfishly as a tech fan, I'm not that mad that they're gonna stick with a guy that just kind of seemed to stagnate.
- 3:30SPEAKER_04: I can only talk so much mess because that guy whips us occasionally.
- 3:34SPEAKER_04: So um, but it's you know, honestly, dude, if Baylor Baylor's probably looking at this and saying, Look, this is a crazy carousel.
- 3:45SPEAKER_04: This is the craziest I think any of us, literally any of us, have ever seen.
- 3:49SPEAKER_04: So if we want to swing, we are not gonna beat out so many of these open jobs, whether it's uh from prestige alone or us not having the boosters to back up the truck and get uh a guy that we really want to look for.
- 4:05SPEAKER_04: I I think this is actually pretty clever.
- 4:07SPEAKER_04: You kind of let Dave Aranda's contract wind down a little bit more, and then next season will not nearly be the same sort of uh uh free-for-all that we're seeing right now.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: What are your first thoughts?
- 4:21SPEAKER_06: Um, I think Baylor's making a mistake.
- 4:23SPEAKER_06: I think anytime that you keep a coach to, you know, just reduce the buyout for the next year, it doesn't, it's not a positive.
- 4:33SPEAKER_06: It doesn't trend your program in the right direction.
- 4:36SPEAKER_06: And yeah, while you know, the LSU job, the Florida job, the potentially the old miss job is open, you know, and at Penn State and all these other big jobs are open right now, it just doesn't it's not a productive thing to just keep a lame duck head coach that you're just going to fire next year.
- 4:55SPEAKER_06: And and honestly, Dave Aranda, they probably should have fired last year.
- 4:58SPEAKER_06: So I just don't understand the and and I I guess I get it from Baylor's specific situation because they're without an AD right now, they're kind of having to tread water at this point that with kind of all the influx nature of that program, but I I just don't see the benefit in keeping Dave Aranda another year.
- 5:18SPEAKER_06: Like, what are you gonna okay?
- 5:20SPEAKER_06: Cool, you're gonna go five and seven, you know, you're gonna you're you're losing all of your what your good players that you had this year.
- 5:28SPEAKER_06: Sawyer Robertson's gone, a few of their star running backs, receivers are gone.
- 5:32SPEAKER_06: Uh, and you've had a guy who hasn't been able to develop uh a defensive-minded head coach who has not been able to have a good defense at Baylor for his entire time that he's there, except for the one year that he ended up winning the Big 12, which was primarily with Matt Rule's players.
- 5:49SPEAKER_06: So I I just don't I don't see the benefit of keeping Dave Aranda.
- 5:53SPEAKER_06: I don't think anytime you're in the situation where you just think you're gonna fire him next year, uh, why don't you just bite the bullet and do it?
- 6:00SPEAKER_04: Well, I I I think you made a good point by pointing out that they're kind of without an AD at this point.
- 6:06SPEAKER_04: Um, and they I I what do the tea leaves say right now?
- 6:11SPEAKER_04: Is this guy fired?
- 6:12SPEAKER_04: I feel like this guy's fired.
- 6:13SPEAKER_04: I feel like he's gone.
- 6:15SPEAKER_04: Like, I don't know the AD.
- 6:16SPEAKER_06: Oh, he's already, yeah, he's already officially resigned.
- 6:20SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay, excellent.
- 6:21SPEAKER_06: So he just did that a couple days ago.
- 6:23SPEAKER_06: So he's officially gone.
- 6:24SPEAKER_06: Mac Rhodes is gone.
- 6:26SPEAKER_04: This has to be like the president and the really remnant athletic staff saying this is the the the football coach is not the priority right now.
- 6:35SPEAKER_04: You know, right now we need to make sure that we uh we find a guy that can actually lead us in the direction where we want to go rather than trying to steer the ship without an athletic director.
- 6:45SPEAKER_04: So I mean, I feel like this makes more sense than it initially seems.
- 6:49SPEAKER_04: Um, I know it's kind of easy to dunk on them, but it really feels like it's kind of get your house to an order situation where Dave Aranda might get you to a bowl game next year, um, but and he might not.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: But you know, like you said, he it might be one of those years for Dave next season where it has to be like you have to win this many games or you're gone, and he'll be gone regardless if they make a bowl or not.
- 7:09SPEAKER_04: Um, so I I I kind of see both ways because I've heard the argument as well regarding this Baylor issue of look, I mean, the fan support's already kind of gone, and it won't be yeah, and it won't be either next year.
- 7:21SPEAKER_04: So it's not like you're gonna be selling tickets for your most valuable uh program on Bayer.
- 7:26SPEAKER_06: You can you can get that back if you get some new leadership in there that hyped up everybody, you know, like it you know for a fact that's yeah.
- 7:36SPEAKER_06: I mean, not it Baylor's a tough sell because they're Baylor and they're you know they don't like to show up to their own football games unless they're just absolutely unbelievable.
- 7:44SPEAKER_06: But yeah, I I don't know.
- 7:46SPEAKER_06: I I didn't I didn't love the move uh if I'm a Baylor fan, and uh I love the move that I'm a Texas Tech fan.
- 7:53SPEAKER_06: So glad to see that old Dave is gonna be back.
- 7:56SPEAKER_06: I I was curious, I don't know if we've ever seen a coaching carousel that has leaned so heavily on one guy's decision than what we're seeing right now with Lane Kippen.
- 8:06SPEAKER_06: Him basically choosing between LSU Florida, Ole Miss, and then kind of everybody follows suit from there.
- 8:15SPEAKER_06: Have you I don't I don't know what were your thoughts on the lane train being the center of all this?
- 8:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, it's nothing immediately comes to mind for like biggest sweetheart that's quote unquote on the market for uh an open bus for all these open positions before.
- 8:31SPEAKER_04: Um, but it makes sense.
- 8:32SPEAKER_04: Like the reason why this makes sense is he's obviously been quite successful at a middling program.
- 8:38SPEAKER_04: Um, that's usually used to being the team that loses in that conference.
- 8:42SPEAKER_04: You know, they'll they're they're usually okay, but they're usually more of the uh that's the team that LSU in Florida and Bama go and beat.
- 8:50SPEAKER_04: Um and he's done a good job of making them a national contender, you know, and uh at this point.
- 8:55SPEAKER_04: And so I can understand why he's the name, because honestly, I don't think Ole Miss can hang on to him.
- 9:03SPEAKER_04: I don't see it happening.
- 9:04SPEAKER_04: I think with this hype up of like he's gonna make his decision after the egg bowl, I think that means he's leaving.
- 9:11SPEAKER_04: Because otherwise, I think if I think if he was staying, they would have already made this big announcement that like our captain's here to stay, this is the extension.
- 9:18SPEAKER_06: You know, but do you not think that in today's college football you can stay at a program like Ole Miss and be successful?
- 9:27SPEAKER_06: I I mean I was listening, I forgot who I was listening to.
- 9:29SPEAKER_06: Maybe it was Andy and Ari with on three today that was talking about Dan Lanning and Kurt Signetti, Joey McGuire, I think you could put in this, as coaches that are at institutions that have not won national championships.
- 9:44SPEAKER_06: Yes, their pedigree is high right now, but not historically have they been strong programs.
- 9:50SPEAKER_06: And yet, Kurt Signetti didn't leave Indiana for the Penn State job.
- 9:54SPEAKER_06: You know, Dan Lanning is not leaving Oregon for any job.
- 9:57SPEAKER_06: Joey Maguire is not leaving Texas Tech for any job right now.
- 10:01SPEAKER_06: And that's just a thing of the past, honestly.
- 10:03SPEAKER_06: Like these coaches, I think, are finding these programs, and if they get the resources that they can get now through NIL and through donors and through everything that's going on, why not just stay there?
- 10:15SPEAKER_06: You know, why why go to Alabama when it opens up?
- 10:18SPEAKER_06: Why go to Florida State when it opens up?
- 10:20SPEAKER_06: Why, why go to LSU?
- 10:22SPEAKER_06: You know, I can just stay here.
- 10:23SPEAKER_06: I'm doing well, you know, Indiana's number two team in the country, Texas Tech's number five team in the country.
- 10:28SPEAKER_06: You know, why would I leave?
- 10:30SPEAKER_04: That's that's a that's a really great point, and that's a positive for the sport, I'd say.
- 10:35SPEAKER_04: Uh, first of all, but I do think, Stephen, that where you're still talking about human beings here, like you are talking about a uh a person with different motives and uh ambitions.
- 10:46SPEAKER_04: So I think the guys that you just listed and you lauded them for for staying at those programs, um, sure it's easier now to stay, but some of these guys do seem like loyal dudes who enjoy the the program building and enjoy making something their own, kind of like a Matt Campbell, you know.
- 11:04SPEAKER_04: Like that's that that kind of archetype, right?
- 11:07SPEAKER_04: Um, a guy like Lane Kiffin is a glory hound.
- 11:10SPEAKER_04: Like that guy has his eye on being at what is perceived as the top of the game and the top of of uh school prestige.
- 11:21SPEAKER_04: So he I bet I bet his number one job on his list is Alabama.
- 11:24SPEAKER_04: I think he wants nothing more than that Alabama job.
- 11:27SPEAKER_04: Um, but I I I saw I think there's a lot of that plays into there because I bet if you had like a Joey McGuire type or a Kirk Signetti type at Ole Miss, we wouldn't really be having this discussion.
- 11:37SPEAKER_04: I don't think so.
- 11:38SPEAKER_04: Because I think there'd be guys like like I'm quite satisfied with where I am, you know, blah blah blah.
- 11:42SPEAKER_04: So I I'm not I'm not going anywhere.
- 11:44SPEAKER_04: I just think that's who Lane is.
- 11:46SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's it really just depends on what jobs we're talking about.
- 11:49SPEAKER_06: I I do think Ole Miss is giving him resources, obviously.
- 11:52SPEAKER_06: They're competitive this year and you know, gonna make the playoff, you know, barring uh a collapse here at the end of the season.
- 11:59SPEAKER_06: So I I just don't see why you have to, and and I'm not saying that LSU isn't a better job than Ole Miss.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: It is.
- 12:06SPEAKER_06: You have you know it's a top five job of the country, Florida is I I think it I think they are, but I think so again.
- 12:13SPEAKER_06: If if old miss comes to the table and just says, hey, you know, we'll give you whatever you want NIL-wise, like you bring whoever you want, you're already building something here.
- 12:23SPEAKER_06: Why would you leave?
- 12:24SPEAKER_06: I I I think that's what's kind of delayed the decision.
- 12:28SPEAKER_06: Because normally, I think if this was, you know, 10 years ago, Lane Kiven would already be at LSE.
- 12:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh, that's that's a good point.
- 12:35SPEAKER_04: Um, I think I think the reason why we're so focused in on this is because it's kind of the first big coaching story of this new era of like courting a high profile coach to what is a bet what are better jobs, but are still inside the conference.
- 12:52SPEAKER_04: And if you really want to whittle it down, it's it's it's fairly lateral.
- 12:56SPEAKER_04: I know it's not, but like in the grand scheme of things, it's fairly lateral, right?
- 13:00SPEAKER_04: You're within the conference, um, and you know, you're gonna be doing playing this pretty much the same game, just with different tools.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: Um, and so I think that's probably why we're still locked into this.
- 13:10SPEAKER_04: I will push back a get bit a bit on like old miscs coming to the table with him.
- 13:15SPEAKER_04: I really think, Duke, that there's just I don't know if there's really anything old misc can do uh to fend off an LSU or Florida.
- 13:23SPEAKER_04: If LSU and Florida really want to play that ball game, I especially with his personality, I mean.
- 13:28SPEAKER_04: Like I we're not talking about a Joey Maguire here that like would be trying to get quartered by UT or kind of thing, you know what I mean?
- 13:34SPEAKER_04: It's like a uh this is like a situation where you're dealing with two schools who are have substantially more backup than an old miss.
- 13:42SPEAKER_04: I think I think uh olmis it gets a little too much, it probably gets a little more smoke screen from being an SEC program.
- 13:47SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 13:48SPEAKER_04: In reality, they're probably you know pretty average everywhere else, you know.
- 13:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, and they don't have the historical significance or anything like that to kind of build you know the high-level donor base, I guess.
- 14:00SPEAKER_04: It's the poorest state in the country.
- 14:02SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and you it's just it's not known for any real industry.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: Like there's not a whole like you know, what Texas Tech are like people will bring up oil, you know, they'll bring up big ag, but like with Ole Miss, what are you talking about?
- 14:12SPEAKER_04: You know, like what what's what are we discussing?
- 14:15SPEAKER_06: Accounting gross guys that shoot way out of their league.
- 14:21SPEAKER_06: Um no, I I think this is kind of to bring it back to Texas Tech.
- 14:26SPEAKER_06: This is a Texas Tech podcast.
- 14:28SPEAKER_06: I think the Joey Maguire hire was so crazy looking back at this, and it really was a a risk that Kirby Hokut and the and the hiring team made because one Joey's just not your typical like Texas Tech had an identity before Joey Maguire, and it was score a lot of points, you don't play defense, you're fun to watch, you're not gonna win a ton of games.
- 14:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but so you win eight games, yeah.
- 14:58SPEAKER_04: Like on top of the wall.
- 14:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah, on a pretty good year, you're winning eight games.
- 15:01SPEAKER_04: Like, we won't fire you, is what we mean.
- 15:02SPEAKER_04: It's like if you're winning eight games consistently, you're fine.
- 15:06SPEAKER_06: And and Joey Maguire does not care.
- 15:09SPEAKER_06: He was like, I don't care.
- 15:10SPEAKER_06: You know, I'm gonna build this off of defense because this is what I know.
- 15:14SPEAKER_06: And he's completely turned this program around with a defensive first identity and actually making us a legit national national title contender in year four.
- 15:23SPEAKER_06: So I just think that the administration deserves a lot of credit, and obviously, you know, this is Joey's first unbelievably good year, like contending year.
- 15:33SPEAKER_06: So we'll see, you know, as the years to come.
- 15:35SPEAKER_06: But um, I I just think Kirby and those guys deserve credit for not making your typical like gimmicky hire and you know, going for a guy who actually had a plan on how to win in 2025 for college football, you know.
- 15:51SPEAKER_04: I think I think it's funny that you use the term gimmicky because I think that's a great point, right?
- 15:55SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because like after Mike Leach, you tried to uh get the washed out SEC coach in Tupperville, and then you uh and then you go, like, all right, let's go back to our our gimmicky, crazy offense, you know, and it's kind of that we were kind of stuck in that spin cycle for a bit.
- 16:10SPEAKER_04: And it's funny, we just we just spent way too long on a Tex Tech podcast.
- 16:14SPEAKER_04: Talk about a gimmicky coach.
- 16:15SPEAKER_04: Like, I mean, Lane Kiffin kind of, you know, sure he wins games, but he's he's gimmicky.
- 16:20SPEAKER_04: Like his whole brand is I'm a weirdo who dates women that are half my age, and I get it get in the headlines.
- 16:26SPEAKER_06: He's a hell of a recruiter.
- 16:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, that's for sure, for sure.
- 16:30SPEAKER_04: So it's it's kind of funny.
- 16:31SPEAKER_04: Like you and I have actually brought this theme up before that Joey Maguire might be the new archetype for programs that are in our food zone, like in our ecosystem, you know what I mean, where it's like you you know, you have the tools to be great, but it just hasn't been proven time and time again.
- 16:51SPEAKER_04: And I think what people are gonna start realizing is look, this way you're gonna need a guy who has a plan, like you said, to build it from the ground up, build it from the grassroots.
- 17:01SPEAKER_04: But most importantly, and as we harped on last week, you're gonna need a guy that gets everybody aligned top to bottom and gets everybody serious about your mission.
- 17:11SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 17:12SPEAKER_04: Like it's he's gonna need to get those uh donors to pop open their wallets, get those fans to buy tickets, and he's gonna need just he's gonna be able he's gonna need to be able to um really sell the community on it.
- 17:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so it's it's it's not just a who is winning a lot of games right now who can go higher kind of kind of system anymore, I think.
- 17:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 17:34SPEAKER_06: I think it's a good point.
- 17:35SPEAKER_06: To round out the kind of coaching carousel, then we'll talk a little bit more about playoff picture and some stuff happening this weekend.
- 17:41SPEAKER_06: But big 12 coaches.
- 17:43SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna start naming them off, and this will be a little quick fire round.
- 17:47SPEAKER_06: Who is still at their current school in two years?
- 17:51SPEAKER_06: So after next season, who is still the head coach of their school?
- 17:56SPEAKER_06: Sonny Dykes.
- 17:57SPEAKER_06: Gone.
- 17:58SPEAKER_06: Yes or no?
- 17:58SPEAKER_06: Gone.
- 17:59SPEAKER_06: You think TCU fires him?
- 18:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 18:03SPEAKER_06: I think I I agree.
- 18:04SPEAKER_06: I don't I think he's been trending downward ever since they had the miracle season.
- 18:08SPEAKER_06: Um, and he just hasn't kept up with recruiting and hasn't been able to keep up with uh honestly, in state, Texas Tech, and uh and it's showing.
- 18:17SPEAKER_06: And you have another mediocre to uh to potentially non-bull season next year, I think they'll cut ties with him.
- 18:24SPEAKER_05: There's no juice there.
- 18:26SPEAKER_06: Yeah, sorry for sure.
- 18:27SPEAKER_06: No, you're good.
- 18:28SPEAKER_06: Chris Kleiman.
- 18:30SPEAKER_06: Gone.
- 18:32SPEAKER_06: You think so?
- 18:32SPEAKER_06: Underperforming?
- 18:33SPEAKER_06: Or you think it's kind of a I think it'll be a mutual thing.
- 18:36SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think it'll be a little bit kind of mutual, but I I think I think the fans are fatiguing on him.
- 18:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah, definitely.
- 18:42SPEAKER_06: I mean, whether that's fair or not is another discussion, but yeah, I mean another very mass season by all standards.
- 18:49SPEAKER_06: You had some expectations if you were Kansas State going into this year, and you have not met them.
- 18:54SPEAKER_04: This is this is a little ivory tower for me to say, especially since Kansas State's been infinitely better than us for this century.
- 19:00SPEAKER_04: But I think Kansas State fans are gonna find out really quickly that Bill Snyder was everything, and that Kansas State is going to struggle in this new era, like truly.
- 19:11SPEAKER_04: Like they're gonna go back to what they were, I think.
- 19:13SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
- 19:14SPEAKER_06: I think it's it's gonna take a special one.
- 19:17SPEAKER_06: I mean, they need to get they need to get up there within IL, and they have in sports like basketball, you know, but you need to get a guy to rally the troops around Dave Aranda gone after next year.
- 19:31SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I agree.
- 19:32SPEAKER_06: He's gonna underperform, and they should have fired him probably too last year.
- 19:36SPEAKER_06: Matt Campbell stayed you think so.
- 19:40SPEAKER_04: I really think that Matt Campbell is the keys to the kingdom there.
- 19:43SPEAKER_04: And I think Iowa State's would be smart to hang on to him.
- 19:46SPEAKER_04: Like he's the best coach in their school history.
- 19:49SPEAKER_04: Oh, 100%.
- 19:49SPEAKER_06: Uh there's there's no reason Iowa State gets rid of Matt Campbell.
- 19:53SPEAKER_06: No, no way.
- 19:54SPEAKER_06: The only way he's gone is if he chooses to leave.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: I really only think Matt Campbell leaves is if he thinks that he is kind of burnt out at Iowa State, like where it's like he can't he can't go any higher in his true feelings, or he thinks that he's only gonna go down from there.
- 20:10SPEAKER_04: I think I think that's the only way he leaves.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: Because I really think he I really do uh think he's there for the right reasons.
- 20:15SPEAKER_04: Obviously the the the paycheck's great, but like I I think that he really is there to to be that program's uh hero, truly.
- 20:24SPEAKER_06: The the Penn State thing is interesting this offseason.
- 20:27SPEAKER_04: That is, it is, but I don't think that satisfies Penn State fans enough.
- 20:32SPEAKER_04: I think it'd be a great hire.
- 20:34SPEAKER_06: I don't know, I don't know what will satisfy them.
- 20:36SPEAKER_04: I know, but that's the problem with being that level of school and in this coaching carousel.
- 20:42SPEAKER_04: Um, and plus there's only so many hires you can make it, those kinds of programs that make fans happy, and they end up a lot of hint up really not fanning out like Mr.
- 20:50SPEAKER_04: Kelly.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Mr.
- 20:51SPEAKER_04: Kill the guy, yeah.
- 20:52SPEAKER_06: He yeah, yeah.
- 20:53SPEAKER_06: Brian Kelly killed a guy.
- 20:55SPEAKER_04: Brian Kelly killed a guy.
- 20:56SPEAKER_06: Deion Sanders.
- 20:58SPEAKER_04: I think that's that one's oh, that was gonna be the hardest one.
- 21:02SPEAKER_04: Because I don't think Colorado fires, yeah.
- 21:04SPEAKER_04: I said he's gonna be able to get it.
- 21:05SPEAKER_06: He's gonna have to retire.
- 21:06SPEAKER_06: And I don't know if he is I don't know if he's of the mindset of wanting to retire.
- 21:12SPEAKER_04: I'm I'm gonna go with stay.
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna go with stay because I don't think Colorado will fire him.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: I think he would, yeah, I think the only way it happens is if he has to retire for his health.
- 21:21SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean I think I think that will happen eventually.
- 21:24SPEAKER_06: I don't know if that's after next season.
- 21:27SPEAKER_06: Brent Brennan.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: Uh I'm gonna go gone.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 21:34SPEAKER_04: I know they're trending up.
- 21:35SPEAKER_06: They have a good season.
- 21:37SPEAKER_04: I know they are, they are, but like they were this close to firing him after year one.
- 21:41SPEAKER_04: I just don't know how much good will he can buy back from that from starting from that kind of location.
- 21:45SPEAKER_04: Like, it's kind of like a Matt Wells to me, like a Matt Wells situation.
- 21:48SPEAKER_06: He's doing much better than Wells ever did.
- 21:51SPEAKER_04: I I understand that, but like tech fans were ready to fire Matt Wells after game one, and that's kind of how they were with Brennan as well.
- 21:59SPEAKER_04: I just and I think.
- 22:00SPEAKER_04: Ever recovered from that.
- 22:01SPEAKER_04: So I just don't know if that's why I just that's just my my gut.
- 22:05SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 22:05SPEAKER_06: I think he stays.
- 22:07SPEAKER_06: Kenny Dillingham.
- 22:09SPEAKER_04: That was interesting.
- 22:11SPEAKER_04: I don't think he'd be gone after two years.
- 22:13SPEAKER_04: I think if he's gone, it's this season, but I don't think he does.
- 22:15SPEAKER_04: I think he stays.
- 22:17SPEAKER_06: He's had a hell of a season coaching-wise.
- 22:19SPEAKER_06: Uh Arizona State still has a chance to make the Big 12 championship and not a non-zero chance.
- 22:25SPEAKER_06: So uh what he's done with that program the last few years has been incredible, and any school would be lucky to have him as their head coach.
- 22:32SPEAKER_06: I think he's gone.
- 22:33SPEAKER_06: I think he gets hired by a big school.
- 22:35SPEAKER_04: Yeah, this this cycle, you think he goes to LLC or Florida?
- 22:39SPEAKER_06: I mean, Florida, there's rumors of Jedfish.
- 22:43SPEAKER_06: I I think you I think you want Kenny Dillingham.
- 22:46SPEAKER_06: Oh go get Kenny Dillam.
- 22:48SPEAKER_06: Like, I think he's right there for the for the big schools that are gonna strike out on Lane Kevin.
- 22:53SPEAKER_06: Go get Kenny Dill Dillingham 100%.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: Jedfish makes sense just because it's probably the biggest name you can get.
- 22:58SPEAKER_04: That's an alumni, you know.
- 23:00SPEAKER_04: Yeah, but Kenny Dillingham Dillingham is 100% the better hire.
- 23:04SPEAKER_04: He's got way more juice.
- 23:06SPEAKER_06: I'd love it if he stayed at Arizona State for the Big 12 sake, but uh yeah, I think he's gonna be, I think the youth and everything like that, he'll I think he'll get poached.
- 23:15SPEAKER_04: I think he's staying, but I'm sure that there's gonna be a school that just writes him a check that he can't imagine saying no to, kind of thing.
- 23:21SPEAKER_04: Like it'd be irresponsible to say no to.
- 23:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, for sure.
- 23:25SPEAKER_06: Two more.
- 23:25SPEAKER_06: Scott Sattersfield.
- 23:27SPEAKER_04: Gone.
- 23:29SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think Cincinnati, by the way, that they're trending uh after starting off pretty good this year, um, and then I think next year might just be a disaster.
- 23:38SPEAKER_04: Another guy that the fan base was never infatuated with either.
- 23:41SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 23:42SPEAKER_04: That was a weird hire from the start.
- 23:43SPEAKER_04: It was though, that was weird.
- 23:44SPEAKER_04: That was like a mutual parting from LSU, and like it was this is weird.
- 23:48SPEAKER_06: It was it was weird to see him.
- 23:49SPEAKER_06: LCL say Louisville.
- 23:50SPEAKER_04: Louisville, sorry.
- 23:51SPEAKER_06: Louisville, Louisville.
- 23:52SPEAKER_06: It was weird to see him so start so well this year, honestly.
- 23:55SPEAKER_06: I thought, but he he's done a decent job, but definitely not trending in the right direction to end the season.
- 24:02SPEAKER_06: Uh final, Lance Leipold.
- 24:06SPEAKER_04: Uh Lance, that's a tricky one.
- 24:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that one's harder than I thought it would be.
- 24:11SPEAKER_04: You know what?
- 24:12SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna say gone.
- 24:14SPEAKER_06: Hmm.
- 24:14SPEAKER_06: You think it's a Kansas, you think it's a Kansas decision getting ready?
- 24:18SPEAKER_04: I think KU's getting to would get to the big for their britches because they're gonna get impatient with the guy, even though he's done great things there.
- 24:24SPEAKER_06: Like he's he's made not a lapping stock, but I think he completely turned one of the worst power four slash five programs around.
- 24:34SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 24:35SPEAKER_06: But I just don't know how high your ceiling is with him.
- 24:38SPEAKER_04: I well, yeah.
- 24:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, I think I think KU's got potential, but I don't think I think they're gonna be like, you know what, we could probably do better.
- 24:44SPEAKER_04: Let's go ahead and see what we can.
- 24:45SPEAKER_04: And I bet I'll bite them in the butt, but yeah, I bet he's gone.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: Hey, that wasn't the last one, by the way.
- 24:50SPEAKER_06: Does it'm more well I wasn't gonna go through all the big 12.
- 24:55SPEAKER_06: I put the I put the relevant ones on here that I think that I think have like an uh well, go ahead.
- 25:00SPEAKER_06: Go ahead with Endrock.
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: He'll be there.
- 25:03SPEAKER_06: He'll be a BYU.
- 25:04SPEAKER_06: They love him at BYU.
- 25:05SPEAKER_04: He's not going anywhere.
- 25:06SPEAKER_04: Uh Joey McGuire.
- 25:09SPEAKER_06: Yeah, same deal.
- 25:10SPEAKER_06: He's told literally every media outlet that he has no intentions of leaving Texas Tech ever.
- 25:16SPEAKER_06: And if we're continuing to do this, we're no chance.
- 25:20SPEAKER_04: I will die at Texas Tech.
- 25:23SPEAKER_04: Um, Miss Mr.
- 25:25SPEAKER_04: Houston, Britz.
- 25:29SPEAKER_06: Oh, he's get well, he'll stay.
- 25:30SPEAKER_06: He's having a great season.
- 25:31SPEAKER_04: He's there.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: That's absolutely.
- 25:33SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he's having a he's having a great season.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, the rest of the rest, yeah, the rest of them are they just got hired.
- 25:39SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_06: Willie's old though, so he is, he's gonna retire.
- 25:43SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he won't be there too, too much longer, but I mean, yeah, he he's gonna be there in two seasons for sure, unless you know health stuff happens.
- 25:50SPEAKER_04: But the last boat out for sure for him.
- 25:52SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no doubt.
- 25:53SPEAKER_06: I mean, we could talk about Scott Frost too, but I don't really have want to have that conversation.
- 25:57SPEAKER_04: Um you think four years for him?
- 26:01SPEAKER_06: Maybe, yeah, they're gonna give him some time.
- 26:03SPEAKER_06: They'll give him some time.
- 26:04SPEAKER_06: And he's having an okay first year.
- 26:06SPEAKER_06: Rich rod.
- 26:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we'll see.
- 26:09SPEAKER_06: More to come, more to come with a little Rich Rod.
- 26:12SPEAKER_06: Um, Big 12.
- 26:14SPEAKER_06: Let's talk about some scenarios.
- 26:18SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech.
- 26:20SPEAKER_06: 77.7% chance you're in the Big 12 championship.
- 26:24SPEAKER_06: It's gone down from the 94% chance last week.
- 26:27SPEAKER_06: Um apparently not playing a game kills your chances a little bit.
- 26:33SPEAKER_06: But actually, you didn't have what you needed to have.
- 26:35SPEAKER_06: You needed Colorado to pull off an upset, which was never gonna happen.
- 26:39SPEAKER_06: You needed potentially uh Cincinnati to upset BYU, and BYU just took care of business.
- 26:44SPEAKER_06: So um right now, BYU actually has the best chance of making the Big 12 championship.
- 26:49SPEAKER_06: It's kind of crazy considering we own the tiebreaker over them.
- 26:53SPEAKER_06: But they play UCF next weekend, dub.
- 26:57SPEAKER_06: We play West Virginia next weekend.
- 26:59SPEAKER_06: Basically, what it is, Texas Tech and BYU control their own destiny, win and they're in, and they both should win.
- 27:06SPEAKER_06: So that should be your matchup.
- 27:08SPEAKER_06: But I want to go through a couple other scenarios here where we're seeing because Arizona State and Utah, and I think a few others just by random, weird, like need a ton of stuff to happen, potentially have a chance, but those are the big four right now.
- 27:23SPEAKER_06: BYU clinches with a win over UCF, or an Arizona State loss, or BYU loss, plus Texas Tech loss, and Arizona State win and a Utah win.
- 27:39SPEAKER_06: So I don't know how that math maths.
- 27:41SPEAKER_06: If you want to go figure it out on the calculator, fantastic.
- 27:45SPEAKER_06: But BYU has a really, really good shot at doing this thing.
- 27:49SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech clinches a spot in the Big 12 championship with a win over West Virginia or an Arizona State loss.
- 27:58SPEAKER_06: So if Arizona State loses the Territorial Cup on Friday, you don't even have to worry about West Virginia, Texas Tech's end.
- 28:04SPEAKER_06: So because Arizona State owns the tiebreaker over us, they're our only loss on the year.
- 28:09SPEAKER_06: That's kind of what you need for a Texas Tech fan.
- 28:12SPEAKER_06: You just need Arizona to take care of business on Friday.
- 28:15SPEAKER_04: No, what you need to happen is you just need to beat the nears, the ears apologies.
- 28:20SPEAKER_06: Yeah, how dare you?
- 28:21SPEAKER_06: We just went through this.
- 28:22SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 28:23SPEAKER_04: But I mean, it's it kind of sucks when they were like, wow, I can't believe BYU has a better chance.
- 28:28SPEAKER_04: Their only loss is way better than an R loss, which is funny.
- 28:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because it's us.
- 28:32SPEAKER_06: So it's true, it's true.
- 28:34SPEAKER_06: And they don't take and they don't take into account backup quarterbacks.
- 28:37SPEAKER_06: Uh they just kind of they just kind of say, hey, you lost to a bad team.
- 28:41SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 28:42SPEAKER_06: Not even that Arizona State's a bad team.
- 28:43SPEAKER_06: They're actually they're still ranked and they're yeah, whatever, eight and two right now.
- 28:48SPEAKER_06: Right, right.
- 28:50SPEAKER_04: The territorial cup is kind of interesting, though.
- 28:52SPEAKER_04: I mean, we're out there in Arizona's putting it together, so it's actually a game.
- 28:56SPEAKER_06: It'll be a Friday night watch for for Texas Tech fans, that's for sure.
- 29:00SPEAKER_06: Um, Arizona State clinches spot in the Big 12 championship if they obviously have to win against Arizona in the Territorial Cup.
- 29:10SPEAKER_06: But they also need a Texas Tech loss and a Utah loss and a BYU win, or a BYU loss and a Utah loss, or a Texas Tech loss, a BYU loss, and a Utah win.
- 29:26SPEAKER_06: So that just changes up their opponent, obviously.
- 29:29SPEAKER_06: They need Texas Tech to lose in every like in pretty much every scenario.
- 29:35SPEAKER_06: Um, Utah potentially clinches a spot in the Big 12 championship with a win over Kansas on Friday, a Texas Tech loss, an Arizona State win, and a BYU win.
- 29:48SPEAKER_06: So not so far-fetched.
- 29:51SPEAKER_06: I mean, obviously, you know, Texas Tech losing to West Virginia the long shot, but outside of that, you know, Arizona State beating Arizona and then BYU beating UCF, I think you can kind of count on that.
- 30:01SPEAKER_06: So I don't know, just just different scenarios, kind of a fun time to be in this right now.
- 30:06SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, but thankfully we're not doing crazy math to figure out how how Texas Tech gets in there.
- 30:13SPEAKER_04: Like that's that is a blessing.
- 30:15SPEAKER_04: Thankfully, it's it's very straightforward for us.
- 30:18SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you're in you're in the situation where you control your own destiny.
- 30:22SPEAKER_06: So you'll like it, like we've been saying, this team will be ready to go for this game against West Virginia.
- 30:28SPEAKER_06: Game is in Morgantown, you know, makes things just a little more fun.
- 30:33SPEAKER_06: College football playoff.
- 30:35SPEAKER_06: So we're recording this on a Monday.
- 30:37SPEAKER_06: The rankings come out on Tuesday, so we don't know where Texas Tech is right now.
- 30:41SPEAKER_06: The only thing that I hope, and I hope this doesn't potentially happen right now, is Oregon with their USC win, potentially hopping Ole Miss and Tech for that fifth spot.
- 30:52SPEAKER_06: I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 30:54SPEAKER_06: I think it's gonna stay kind of exactly where it is.
- 30:56SPEAKER_06: I don't think they're gonna hop Ole Miss or hop Texas Tech, but the committee, they you never know what they're gonna do.
- 31:04SPEAKER_06: And maybe they really value a win over Lincoln Riley.
- 31:08SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 31:09SPEAKER_04: Well, now the new chair is what, Utah's AD?
- 31:13SPEAKER_06: Yes, Utah's AD.
- 31:14SPEAKER_04: Now that now that Mr.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: Rhodes is out of there, so maybe uh Mr.
- 31:18SPEAKER_04: Utah AD is salty about the the way the Big 12 year went, and he's still got a soft spot for their uh uh uh beloved Pac-12 members.
- 31:28unknown: Right.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: They're gonna just shove them ducks right up there.
- 31:31SPEAKER_04: No, but that's not gonna happen, dude.
- 31:32SPEAKER_04: Um, I really like it.
- 31:33SPEAKER_04: Like you said, I think it's just gonna stand still.
- 31:35SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we we may be regretting our words after we see the rankings come out tomorrow, but we shall see.
- 31:42SPEAKER_06: Going through the seeds right now and their remaining schedule.
- 31:46SPEAKER_06: So Ohio State at Michigan and then the Big Ten Championship.
- 31:51SPEAKER_06: Indiana at Purdue and then the Big Ten Championship.
- 31:55SPEAKER_06: AM plays Texas and Austin and then the SEC Championship.
- 32:00SPEAKER_06: Georgia plays at Georgia Tech, not at Georgia Tech, it's at Mercedes-Benz.
- 32:04SPEAKER_06: Don't let them fool you.
- 32:05SPEAKER_06: And then potentially SEC Championship?
- 32:09SPEAKER_06: Right now, Alabama has the tiebreaker over Georgia.
- 32:12SPEAKER_06: So if Alabama goes and beats Auburn in the Iron Bowl, Alabama would be in the SEC Championship, and that's gonna throw seeding way off.
- 32:21SPEAKER_06: Like that's gonna bring on some weird scenarios because if Alabama goes to the SEC championship and then wins, do they hop all the way up to a top four seed?
- 32:30SPEAKER_06: Probably.
- 32:31SPEAKER_06: Where does AM go?
- 32:32SPEAKER_06: Where does Georgia go?
- 32:33SPEAKER_06: Like, where is this you hope, but I don't know.
- 32:38SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 32:39SPEAKER_06: Um, Olmus plays in the egg bowl against Mississippi State.
- 32:43SPEAKER_06: Uh, they have a shot at the SEC championship, but it is not likely.
- 32:47SPEAKER_03: Um there's I feel like is there some zesty sauce in that game?
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 32:52SPEAKER_03: Do you do you sense an upset sauce in that?
- 32:55SPEAKER_06: I think if you're talking, let's not talk AM Texas, because that one's probably gonna be tight no matter what.
- 33:02SPEAKER_06: Georgia, Georgia Tech, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn.
- 33:08SPEAKER_06: Georgia Tech, I guess you could say is the best of Auburn, Mississippi State, and and Georgia Tech.
- 33:14SPEAKER_06: I think they're the best of those three, but it's really not like though.
- 33:18SPEAKER_03: I think they just lose.
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Well, and they're just not that good.
- 33:22SPEAKER_06: Okay, they the record's good, they're not that good.
- 33:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think of all three of those games, Mississippi State has the most chance to mess around.
- 33:29SPEAKER_04: You think so?
- 33:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, you know, well, okay.
- 33:32SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 33:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I'm I'm I think I think I'm inclined to agree.
- 33:36SPEAKER_04: I think so.
- 33:37SPEAKER_06: I mean, we'll see with Auburn.
- 33:39SPEAKER_06: It's a rivalry game, it's at Auburn, so I don't know.
- 33:42SPEAKER_04: The way, the way no, it's not happening.
- 33:45SPEAKER_04: I know, but like um, no, the reason why I'm thinking maybe the egg bowl is kind of something to keep an eye on, uh, is because uh with all this nonsense around Link Evan, yeah, there's a lot of noise.
- 33:59SPEAKER_04: Maybe he's out the door after that game, you know.
- 34:02SPEAKER_05: So that could be it.
- 34:03SPEAKER_04: He could be phoning it in.
- 34:04SPEAKER_04: We'll see.
- 34:05SPEAKER_04: I mean, that'd be funny.
- 34:06SPEAKER_04: I would like for all of them all to be upset.
- 34:08SPEAKER_04: Like, please.
- 34:09SPEAKER_06: Yes, it would be funny.
- 34:10SPEAKER_04: That'd be a best case scenario for the Big 12.
- 34:12SPEAKER_06: And then another sneaky one, Oregon is at Washington before they got sneaky.
- 34:19SPEAKER_06: And with it standing right now, they're not gonna make the Big Ten championship.
- 34:24SPEAKER_06: So I don't know what they're gonna do with Oregon.
- 34:27SPEAKER_06: Like, uh, do they continue driving?
- 34:29SPEAKER_06: There's a lot of crap that's happening right now, but to help everybody in Purdue, right?
- 34:34SPEAKER_04: At Purdue, sneaky, sneaky, does Purdue still have a coach or no?
- 34:40SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 34:41SPEAKER_04: I don't probably not.
- 34:42SPEAKER_04: But Purdue's like the worst team in the country.
- 34:44SPEAKER_06: Purdue's oh, they're well, Oklahoma State exists.
- 34:47SPEAKER_06: Take it easy.
- 34:47SPEAKER_04: Oh, okay.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 34:48SPEAKER_04: Thank you, Koch.
- 34:49SPEAKER_04: Our friends, our friends north of the Red River.
- 34:52SPEAKER_06: Cokes are very bad.
- 34:54SPEAKER_06: I think I saw something where they're like ranked 113th right now.
- 34:58SPEAKER_04: That's bad.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: And well deserved.
- 35:00SPEAKER_04: Uh do they have I don't think they have a single FPS?
- 35:02SPEAKER_04: I don't think they have a single FPS win.
- 35:03SPEAKER_06: No, they're their only win is UT UT Martin Martin.
- 35:07SPEAKER_06: Skyhawks.
- 35:08SPEAKER_06: Skyhawks.
- 35:09SPEAKER_06: How could I forget?
- 35:10SPEAKER_06: Warhawks?
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: No?
- 35:11SPEAKER_06: War Skyhawks.
- 35:13SPEAKER_06: Skyhawks?
- 35:14SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 35:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, because their Met logo is like a bird with the old aviator helmet and goggles.
- 35:20SPEAKER_06: That couldn't be Warhawks?
- 35:22SPEAKER_04: No, dummy.
- 35:24SPEAKER_06: That could be Warhawks.
- 35:25SPEAKER_06: I know.
- 35:25SPEAKER_06: I think it could be any sort of hawk.
- 35:28SPEAKER_06: Um so I created another War Damn Eagle.
- 35:32SPEAKER_06: I created another Hate Watch guide for you.
- 35:34SPEAKER_04: Um thank you.
- 35:35SPEAKER_04: Because it worked so well.
- 35:37SPEAKER_06: This week is going to be a lot better.
- 35:40SPEAKER_06: Last week there were so many bad games.
- 35:42SPEAKER_04: This week I I like how all the segments in this episode have been nonsense.
- 35:47SPEAKER_04: We have like not even talked about the tech game.
- 35:50SPEAKER_06: We will get to it after this.
- 35:55SPEAKER_06: Listen, I'm a victim to the agenda.
- 35:58SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 36:00SPEAKER_06: Friday night.
- 36:03SPEAKER_06: Utah over Kansas.
- 36:05SPEAKER_06: This is so this is a hate watch guide for everybody that wants the Big 12 to get multiple bids in the college football playoff.
- 36:11SPEAKER_06: So this is how I based it off of this is what needs to happen for a potential BYU or even a sneaky Utah to break into the field of 12.
- 36:22SPEAKER_06: Friday night, you need Utah to beat Kansas.
- 36:25SPEAKER_06: You need Mississippi State.
- 36:26SPEAKER_04: Blow them up.
- 36:27SPEAKER_04: Like blow up Kansas.
- 36:29SPEAKER_06: Like really beat the crap out of them.
- 36:31SPEAKER_06: Mississippi State over all mess.
- 36:34SPEAKER_06: Georgia Tech over Georgia.
- 36:36SPEAKER_06: AM over Texas.
- 36:39SPEAKER_06: Purdue over Indiana.
- 36:45SPEAKER_06: Arizona over Arizona State.
- 36:49SPEAKER_06: I think you know that one's a questionable.
- 36:51SPEAKER_06: I think either team could either team could win.
- 36:54SPEAKER_06: And it's like, because if Arizona wins, it's another like good dub on the resume, potentially a ranked win for the Utah and the BYUs of the world.
- 37:03SPEAKER_06: Saturday.
- 37:04SPEAKER_06: Of the world.
- 37:06SPEAKER_06: Saturday.
- 37:08SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech over West Virginia.
- 37:12SPEAKER_06: You need it.
- 37:14SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm hating on West Virginia.
- 37:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 37:17SPEAKER_04: Like tech techniques with like torpedo.
- 37:20SPEAKER_06: The hate watch is based upon who you need to lose.
- 37:23SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 37:24SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 37:25SPEAKER_06: Michigan over Ohio State.
- 37:28SPEAKER_06: Will it happen again?
- 37:29SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 37:30SPEAKER_04: Has Ryan Day ever beaten Michigan?
- 37:32SPEAKER_04: I don't know.
- 37:34SPEAKER_06: I don't think so.
- 37:35SPEAKER_06: Sneaky.
- 37:36SPEAKER_06: That's all I'm saying.
- 37:38SPEAKER_06: Pit over Miami.
- 37:41SPEAKER_06: Miami, for some reason, is the only ACC team that's like even up for an at-large bid right now.
- 37:46SPEAKER_06: And uh they are pit in the ACC.
- 37:51SPEAKER_06: Now, the whole ACC is just a disgusting mess right now.
- 37:56SPEAKER_06: So there's still a chance Miami makes it to the championship.
- 38:00SPEAKER_06: A lot of stuff has to happen, but I I you still need Pitt to beat Miami because Miami's got the momentum for like a potential at-large bid.
- 38:08SPEAKER_06: So you just need that out of it.
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and the more the more you blend that up, the the the not so crazy of a chance that another G6 champion jumps the ACC.
- 38:20SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 38:21SPEAKER_06: Like I'm like, if the ACC champion has enough losses, like how do you not consider it like putting in a well the only way you do that is if and and this may leave the ACC out entirely because I think Duke still potentially has a chance here, uh, and they have like five losses.
- 38:38SPEAKER_06: So they would put JMU and the winner of the American in over them, and then the ACC would be left out.
- 38:43SPEAKER_06: But no, that's not gonna be funny.
- 38:45SPEAKER_06: It would be hilarious.
- 38:46SPEAKER_06: Everybody's kind of rooting for it.
- 38:48SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it'd be really funny, but I don't think that's gonna happen.
- 38:52SPEAKER_06: And uh, I mean, Virginia, I think it's gonna be Virginia SMU, have like the highest chance.
- 38:56SPEAKER_06: So we can see the ponies who lost to Baylor and TCU this year in the college football playoff.
- 39:02SPEAKER_06: Uh disgusting.
- 39:04SPEAKER_06: Got it.
- 39:06SPEAKER_06: Uh I just threw this one in here.
- 39:08SPEAKER_06: It doesn't really have any implications.
- 39:09SPEAKER_06: I'm rooting for Houston over Baylor.
- 39:12SPEAKER_06: Just vibes.
- 39:14SPEAKER_06: I think it'd be hilarious if they announced Dave Stang and then they lost and didn't make a bowl game.
- 39:18SPEAKER_06: Would be funny.
- 39:18SPEAKER_04: That'd be funny.
- 39:19SPEAKER_04: That'd be funny.
- 39:20SPEAKER_04: Good year for Houston, dude.
- 39:22SPEAKER_06: I'm telling you, Willie.
- 39:23SPEAKER_04: Willie says on it.
- 39:25SPEAKER_06: It kind of hypes up tech a little bit because it gives Houston, you know, another victory, and that's another win.
- 39:30SPEAKER_06: So there you go.
- 39:31SPEAKER_06: BYU over UCF.
- 39:34SPEAKER_06: LSU over Oklahoma.
- 39:36SPEAKER_06: And now I was in Death Valley this past weekend, seeing some friends.
- 39:41SPEAKER_06: We got on the field.
- 39:42SPEAKER_06: It's pretty cool.
- 39:43SPEAKER_06: That team stinks.
- 39:44SPEAKER_06: LSU stinks.
- 39:47SPEAKER_06: They're so bad.
- 39:48SPEAKER_06: Their offense is just the worst.
- 39:50SPEAKER_06: They beat Western Kentucky by three points.
- 39:52SPEAKER_06: Um, awful.
- 39:54SPEAKER_06: They're not gonna beat Oklahoma.
- 39:55SPEAKER_06: Uh, the game's a Norman, but Oklahoma's offense is stinky too.
- 39:59SPEAKER_06: So they just have an unreal defense.
- 40:01SPEAKER_06: This game is gonna be 7-0, yeah, is what this game's gonna be.
- 40:04SPEAKER_06: And OU's gonna win.
- 40:06SPEAKER_04: I remember I was like texting you this past week and saying WKU has a not zero chance to win this game, by the way.
- 40:12SPEAKER_06: And no, it's pretty close.
- 40:15SPEAKER_06: It was close, and the Western Kentucky was never gonna win that game, but LSU is a bad football team.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: Like the coach killed a guy.
- 40:23SPEAKER_06: Well, not anymore.
- 40:24SPEAKER_06: Not anymore.
- 40:26SPEAKER_06: Their former coach may or may not have allegedly absolutely did kill a guy.
- 40:31SPEAKER_06: Um that would be so I'm really rooting for LSU to be there.
- 40:35SPEAKER_03: That would be nuts because I need OU out.
- 40:37SPEAKER_03: I need OU out of here.
- 40:38SPEAKER_06: That would be funny.
- 40:39SPEAKER_06: To do anything, I I need the SEC to lose as much as possible.
- 40:44SPEAKER_06: Tennessee over Vandy.
- 40:46SPEAKER_06: You need that to happen because again, for some reason, people continue to talk about Vanderbilt and they just don't need to.
- 40:52SPEAKER_04: It's because of Diego Pavia's mom.
- 40:55SPEAKER_06: Gross, gross clip.
- 40:57SPEAKER_04: That was gross, dude.
- 40:58SPEAKER_04: Disgusting clip gross.
- 41:00SPEAKER_06: I'm out.
- 41:01SPEAKER_06: I'm out on Diego Pavia.
- 41:02SPEAKER_04: I'm out.
- 41:03SPEAKER_04: Drop out of the Heisman race after that, dude.
- 41:05SPEAKER_06: Get out, call your mom.
- 41:06SPEAKER_06: Get out of my face.
- 41:08SPEAKER_06: Washington over Oregon.
- 41:10SPEAKER_06: You need to happen because again, that's another you know, seven, eight, nine range.
- 41:17SPEAKER_04: There might be, you know.
- 41:18SPEAKER_06: Washington's not awful.
- 41:19SPEAKER_06: They're not that bad, yeah.
- 41:20SPEAKER_06: And it's at and it's in Seattle.
- 41:22SPEAKER_04: I think Oregon's like only big win is USC.
- 41:26SPEAKER_04: Maybe Iowa.
- 41:27SPEAKER_04: You could maybe consider Iowa.
- 41:28SPEAKER_06: Iowa's a good Iowa's a good win.
- 41:30SPEAKER_04: But Iowa State be Iowa.
- 41:31SPEAKER_04: You know, and Iowa State's hey, there's seven.
- 41:35SPEAKER_04: There's seven and yeah, I guess they kind of put it together, huh?
- 41:38SPEAKER_06: They could get eight wins.
- 41:39SPEAKER_06: Iowa State.
- 41:40SPEAKER_06: Shout out.
- 41:41SPEAKER_06: Everyone's kind of just forgot about the clones this year.
- 41:43SPEAKER_06: Um Virginia Tech over Virginia, just again, funny.
- 41:49SPEAKER_04: That's not happening.
- 41:50SPEAKER_06: It's not gonna happen, but it would be funny.
- 41:53SPEAKER_06: We're talking about the ACC here.
- 41:54SPEAKER_04: We're talking about the ACC.
- 41:56SPEAKER_04: Okay, but that's that one's not happening.
- 41:59SPEAKER_06: Auburn over Alabama.
- 42:01SPEAKER_06: If Auburn beats Alabama, I don't know how Paul and his group of Mickey Mouse people can get Alabama in the playoffs if they lose to Auburn.
- 42:10SPEAKER_06: Oh, do they do?
- 42:11SPEAKER_04: They will.
- 42:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, you really think they're Alabama's out if they lose?
- 42:15SPEAKER_06: Nine and three?
- 42:17SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
- 42:17SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think they're out.
- 42:19SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah, they're out there out.
- 42:21SPEAKER_06: Because they won't make the FCC Championship.
- 42:23SPEAKER_06: They're out if they lose to Auburn.
- 42:25SPEAKER_06: I'm really rooting for that.
- 42:26SPEAKER_06: That'd be awesome.
- 42:28SPEAKER_06: Certified hater of the Crimson Tide.
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: You know what?
- 42:30SPEAKER_06: I'm really rooting for that.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: He could.
- 42:32SPEAKER_04: Auburn's kind of messy right a little bit.
- 42:35SPEAKER_06: You've talked yourself into it.
- 42:37SPEAKER_06: They're gonna lose by 30 now.
- 42:40SPEAKER_06: UCLA over USC.
- 42:42SPEAKER_06: I it doesn't really have any implications now.
- 42:44SPEAKER_06: The USC lost Oregon, but again, fine.
- 42:47SPEAKER_04: How are we talking about this many zombie teams?
- 42:51SPEAKER_06: Stanford over Notre Dame.
- 42:55SPEAKER_06: Rivalry game.
- 42:56SPEAKER_06: Rivalry game.
- 42:58SPEAKER_04: That's a rivalry, apparently.
- 42:59SPEAKER_06: Stanford coming off a big dub over Cal.
- 43:02SPEAKER_06: Notre Dame coming off a minuscule 70 to 7 win over the poor Orange of Syracuse.
- 43:10SPEAKER_06: I'm just saying this would be hilarious if Stanford beats Notre Dame.
- 43:14SPEAKER_03: What Notre Dame beat Syracuse with 70 points?
- 43:19SPEAKER_06: They yeah, they beat they beat them by 63 points.
- 43:23SPEAKER_06: Um wasn't good.
- 43:26SPEAKER_06: Was not good.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: Stanford Stanford needs to mess around.
- 43:29SPEAKER_06: The hate watch last week was brutal.
- 43:31SPEAKER_04: We're we're we are Notre Dame's newest rival, apparently.
- 43:35SPEAKER_04: So as a hater of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, I want to see the Stanford trees, another arch rival of them, beat them.
- 43:46SPEAKER_06: Go Andrew Lux.
- 43:48SPEAKER_06: Go the fighting Andrew Lux.
- 43:50SPEAKER_06: Last thing I'll bring up before we talk about West Virginia the American Conference, because Texas Tech is number five right now, we are looking to play the G five member of the Playoff.
- 44:00SPEAKER_06: If everything continues the way it's going.
- 44:03SPEAKER_06: Dub.
- 44:03SPEAKER_06: The American Conference has three teams right now that are vying for a spot in their championship game.
- 44:11SPEAKER_06: Tulane, who plays Charlotte this weekend.
- 44:14SPEAKER_06: Charlotte's horrible.
- 44:16SPEAKER_06: One and nine, one in ten, maybe.
- 44:18SPEAKER_06: They just got beat to shit by Georgia.
- 44:24SPEAKER_06: It's a tough day for the 49ers.
- 44:26SPEAKER_03: What's their mascot?
- 44:27SPEAKER_03: Go, go.
- 44:27SPEAKER_06: 49ers.
- 44:28SPEAKER_03: Oh, good job, buddy.
- 44:29SPEAKER_03: You said it as soon as I asked.
- 44:31SPEAKER_06: Dude, I know the Niners.
- 44:32SPEAKER_03: Dude.
- 44:33SPEAKER_06: I know Charlotte.
- 44:34SPEAKER_06: The real Niners here.
- 44:36SPEAKER_06: Uh, if Tulane beats Charlotte, they're in the American Conference Championship.
- 44:39SPEAKER_04: So they're the favorites to do it right now, I think.
- 44:42SPEAKER_06: Somehow.
- 44:43SPEAKER_06: Gonna do it.
- 44:44SPEAKER_06: They're gonna do it.
- 44:45SPEAKER_06: North Texas.
- 44:46SPEAKER_06: Yes.
- 44:47SPEAKER_06: Eric Morris and the boys.
- 44:50SPEAKER_06: They play the mighty Matt Rule Temple Owls.
- 44:54SPEAKER_06: If they beat Temple, they're in.
- 44:56SPEAKER_06: So that's gonna be your American championship right there, unless some crap happens.
- 45:02SPEAKER_03: Temple stinks, correct?
- 45:04SPEAKER_06: They're like five and six right now.
- 45:06SPEAKER_06: So they're not great.
- 45:07SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're not good.
- 45:08SPEAKER_06: But so North Texas should win, and we should see a two-lane North Texas championship game.
- 45:12SPEAKER_06: And then the winner of that will likely go and be the 12 seed in the college football playoff.
- 45:20SPEAKER_06: Navy has an outside chance here.
- 45:22SPEAKER_06: Uh, they need both two lane and north Texas to lose.
- 45:25SPEAKER_06: We love the troops, we support the troops.
- 45:27SPEAKER_06: Uh, it's not gonna happen.
- 45:28SPEAKER_04: I mean, it'd be pretty freaking awesome to see a service academy make the playoff.
- 45:32SPEAKER_04: It would, but um, and everyone would have to cheer for oh no, but we'd have to play for him, and we'd have to cheer against the troops.
- 45:39SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, we don't want to play the troops.
- 45:40SPEAKER_04: I I really think that the best case scenario with that uh would be Tim uh Tulane.
- 45:46SPEAKER_04: Uh I would rather play Tulane than UNT.
- 45:48SPEAKER_04: I think UT is a little more dangerous.
- 45:51SPEAKER_04: I think you and I'm I know I'm not saying we'd lose to them, but you're gonna have an alum come in, chip on his shoulder to play against his ombomater, you know, as an offense cooking.
- 46:03SPEAKER_04: That offense is one of the best in the country's.
- 46:05SPEAKER_04: Um country's plural, I guess.
- 46:07SPEAKER_04: Um so I I don't know.
- 46:09SPEAKER_04: I don't know, just vibes.
- 46:11SPEAKER_04: I think Tulane would be a better matchup for us.
- 46:13SPEAKER_04: And I mean, but they most they both might be zombie teams at the end at the end of the season.
- 46:17SPEAKER_04: So both are coaches, might get taken.
- 46:20SPEAKER_06: We know you've been on the North Texas train all season, so I have I know I'm mostly they've been getting snubbed all dang season.
- 46:30SPEAKER_06: We love emo, but Tulane's probably gonna do this.
- 46:35SPEAKER_06: Tulane's probably gonna, yeah, I think Tulane will win.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: They're gonna cream sharp year in in Louisiana, and this is what uh you're gonna turn on your Ditton boys.
- 46:43SPEAKER_06: I'm more of a Jake Retzlaff uh honor code violator, Jake Retzlaff stan.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: BY J.
- 46:54SPEAKER_04: No, no, no, hang it.
- 46:55SPEAKER_04: Wrong one.
- 46:56SPEAKER_06: Julane.
- 46:57SPEAKER_06: There you go.
- 46:58SPEAKER_06: That's it.
- 46:59SPEAKER_06: No, I think I think Tulane's just gonna win out, and they're gonna be the 12th seed.
- 47:03SPEAKER_06: Who's really getting left out here is James Madison.
- 47:06SPEAKER_06: They're just not even thought about now.
- 47:07SPEAKER_06: They're like, whatever, get out of our face.
- 47:10SPEAKER_06: James Madison, they they if they if they like go and win it all, like in their in their no one of these teams is gonna if Tulane, if Tulane beats Charlotte and then wins the American, they're gonna get the bid over James Madison.
- 47:23SPEAKER_04: Yes, they'll get the bid over James Madison, but yeah, James Madison does have the opportunity to play the spoiler against the ACC if things break right.
- 47:32SPEAKER_04: It's not gonna happen.
- 47:33SPEAKER_04: It's not gonna happen.
- 47:35SPEAKER_04: Don't get me wrong.
- 47:36SPEAKER_04: We will be seeing six and six Virginia in the playoff, don't get me wrong, over Team One JMU.
- 47:43SPEAKER_06: The only way JMU gets in the playoffs is if Navy somehow messes around and potentially wins the American, and they're gonna put JMU over Navy, probably.
- 47:54SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:55SPEAKER_03: I think they do that to the troops.
- 47:57SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think they do that to the troops, unfortunately.
- 48:01SPEAKER_06: But all right, that's your hate watch guide for week 14?
- 48:07SPEAKER_06: 13?
- 48:08SPEAKER_06: 14, buddy.
- 48:09SPEAKER_06: 14.
- 48:10SPEAKER_06: How about ya?
- 48:11SPEAKER_06: West Virginia Mountaineers.
- 48:13SPEAKER_06: The ears, as you called them.
- 48:16SPEAKER_06: Um, four wins, not playing for a bowl game.
- 48:22SPEAKER_06: This game is in Morgantown, West Virginia.
- 48:24SPEAKER_06: 11 a.m.
- 48:25SPEAKER_06: kickoff, 12 local time.
- 48:30SPEAKER_06: I mean, listen, this is about Texas Tech.
- 48:34SPEAKER_06: This isn't about West Virginia.
- 48:35SPEAKER_06: Texas Tech needs to come in with the right mindset on what they need to do.
- 48:40SPEAKER_06: I think it's a good thing for Texas Tech that they actually have to win this game, and they're not guaranteed a spot, you know, or anything in the Big 12 championship already.
- 48:50SPEAKER_06: I I I they're gonna go in with some ferocity, and I really think this is not gonna be a ball game.
- 48:56SPEAKER_04: Yeah, dude, I'm with you.
- 48:58SPEAKER_04: Thankfully, I'm with you.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: I really don't think we're gonna have like lights too bright moment or anything.
- 49:03SPEAKER_04: I say one, because I think that we are that good, and B, I don't think this West Virginia team is capable of pulling off this upset, nor do I think they had the motivation to do so.
- 49:14SPEAKER_04: They are out of bowl contention, and it's they they're not really playing for anything at this point, other than to maybe play a bit of a spoiler.
- 49:22SPEAKER_04: But that that stadium is gonna be empty, except for maybe the fact that they're gonna watch the top 10 team, which is always enticing.
- 49:29SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's it I I have no fear, no nerves going to Saturday, and I hope I'm not gonna be eating my words come uh Sunday morning when I'm in a tier of a puddle of tears.
- 49:43SPEAKER_06: Let me try to convince you of the worst thing ever happening.
- 49:49SPEAKER_06: Oh West Virginia, West Virginia's two and two in their last two games.
- 49:53SPEAKER_06: They beat Houston at Houston, which is a good win.
- 49:58SPEAKER_06: And then they beat Colorado.
- 50:00SPEAKER_06: They lost tight ones to TCU in Morgantown and at Arizona State.
- 50:05SPEAKER_06: And I mean a tight one at Arizona State last weekend.
- 50:08SPEAKER_06: And now this is without Sam Levitt, it's without Jordan Tyson.
- 50:12SPEAKER_06: Uh, you know, it's uh it's kind of a zombie Arizona State team that's still continuing to get dubs, but kind of based on the talent that they've been playing.
- 50:20SPEAKER_06: We'll see a lot in this Arizona territorial cup game on how you know good Arizona State actually is.
- 50:26SPEAKER_06: I think Kenny will get the guys up, and I actually think they have a pretty good chance of winning that one, but we'll see.
- 50:32SPEAKER_06: West Virginia is not nothing.
- 50:33SPEAKER_06: Like they're not the West Virginia that start off two and six.
- 50:37SPEAKER_06: You know, they're they're actually a little better than that.
- 50:40SPEAKER_06: They've been starting the true freshman Scotty Fox Jr.
- 50:43SPEAKER_06: at quarterback.
- 50:44SPEAKER_06: Last four games for him, he's averaging 253 yards a game, six touchdowns to three interception ratio.
- 50:51SPEAKER_06: Not great, but also not awful.
- 50:53SPEAKER_06: He adds on two rushing TVs in these last four games, 62% pass completion.
- 50:58SPEAKER_06: He's a pretty decent kind of dual threat guy.
- 51:01SPEAKER_06: I mean, he can do with his legs.
- 51:02SPEAKER_06: He made some moves in that Houston game.
- 51:04SPEAKER_06: They put up 45 on Houston.
- 51:06SPEAKER_06: That's a good team.
- 51:07SPEAKER_06: It's a good defense, too.
- 51:08SPEAKER_06: So uh they play an umptepo style offense.
- 51:11SPEAKER_06: You know, Rich Rod loves, you know, just really getting the ball out and running a lot of plays on offense.
- 51:16SPEAKER_06: So um, again, I don't think it's gonna be a game, but it's definitely not a team that you take lightly.
- 51:22SPEAKER_06: You know, this isn't this isn't Oklahoma State, you know, it's not Colorado.
- 51:27SPEAKER_06: This is a step up from the worst of the worst in the Big 12.
- 51:31SPEAKER_04: Okay, yeah.
- 51:33SPEAKER_04: I I I like I like that you're gassing them up a little bit, you know, trying to keep us humble.
- 51:37SPEAKER_04: Um, but just a quick reminder.
- 51:41SPEAKER_04: This is a Mountaineer team that lost to Ohio.
- 51:46SPEAKER_04: This is a Mountaineer team that got crushed by Kansas, a Mountaineer team that got crushed by Utah, crushed by BYU, crushed by UCF, barely lost to TCU, uh, and barely lost Arizona State.
- 52:01SPEAKER_04: So all their wins have been very tight, minus hilariously uh Houston.
- 52:07SPEAKER_05: Oh, Houston.
- 52:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh, you know, Houston was actually closer than I thought.
- 52:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, but um this yeah, I mean you don't take them lightly, but I don't want us to kind of overthink it either.
- 52:20SPEAKER_04: Like just get out there, play your game, and I expect to see Mitch Griffiths in there by the third quarter.
- 52:25SPEAKER_04: Like, I really think that's how this should play out, so that our poor boy Baron Morton can stop playing with a broken leg.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 52:34SPEAKER_04: Our starting quarterback is literally playing with a broken leg.
- 52:38SPEAKER_04: Fracture.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: That is a break.
- 52:40SPEAKER_03: That's what a the word fracture is science for break.
- 52:44SPEAKER_03: It's science.
- 52:45SPEAKER_03: It's just it's just a little hole in the bone.
- 52:48SPEAKER_03: It's just a little, you see, you see where it's normally one bone?
- 52:52SPEAKER_03: It's it's kind of split.
- 52:54SPEAKER_03: It's all split.
- 52:55SPEAKER_06: That means double the power in the leg.
- 52:58SPEAKER_04: It's a little flexibility, a little, a little cushion, the little air cushion there.
- 53:03SPEAKER_04: But um, it's I cannot believe the the the cojones on this kid to keep going out there and play on a broken leg.
- 53:10SPEAKER_04: But dude, it's just like there's something like Shakespearean tragedy about Texas Tech.
- 53:17SPEAKER_04: We have our starting quarterback, but the only catch is his leg is literally broken.
- 53:21SPEAKER_04: Like, what is this, dude?
- 53:24SPEAKER_04: We're about to go into our first ever Big 12 championship game, knocked on wood, uh, and then play for a national title chance.
- 53:34SPEAKER_04: So he has a broken leg.
- 53:36SPEAKER_03: I can't exist.
- 53:38SPEAKER_06: This is Mitchie Ball.
- 53:39SPEAKER_06: This is Mitchie Ball ready to go.
- 53:42SPEAKER_06: I'm ready to see a repeat of UCF where we get Baron Morton for a quarter and a half, and then uh we finish her off with with Mitchie Boy.
- 53:51SPEAKER_06: Um, yeah, I don't think uh if you're a Texas tech, you really I don't think on paper and watching this team, you don't have a lot to worry about with this game.
- 54:01SPEAKER_06: Uh, the only thing is weather could get a little weird.
- 54:04SPEAKER_06: You're playing in Morgantown, which is a weird place, and I think the crowd's gonna be there.
- 54:10SPEAKER_06: I know that they're bad, but there's they're seeing a top five team come in there and they have the chance to play spoiler.
- 54:17SPEAKER_06: This is what West Virginia fans thrive off of.
- 54:20SPEAKER_06: They're like us, they're in complete effort mode.
- 54:24SPEAKER_06: They're like, all right, I'm gonna start drinking at 7 a.m.
- 54:26SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna go watch this game.
- 54:28SPEAKER_06: If we get blown out by 30 in the first half, I'm gonna leave.
- 54:31SPEAKER_06: And it's gonna be fine.
- 54:32SPEAKER_06: I'm gonna get a pepperoni roll and I'm gonna enjoy my life, and maybe I'll burn a couch on the way out.
- 54:38SPEAKER_06: But I I I just saying I'm gonna be I'm gonna be locked into this game just like I've been locked into all the other games.
- 54:45SPEAKER_06: This is not a dub yet, and I am I'm ready to I'm ready to watch Texas Tech play a dominant football game.
- 54:51SPEAKER_04: We respect West Virginia.
- 54:53SPEAKER_06: We respect West Virginia.
- 54:56SPEAKER_04: The ears.
- 54:57SPEAKER_04: What do you think of the Retro experiment?
- 55:00SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 55:01SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 55:02SPEAKER_06: This is year one, and they've had a lot of crap go wrong.
- 55:05SPEAKER_06: They had a quarterback leave it midway through the season to go enter the transfer portal.
- 55:09SPEAKER_06: They had like 60 new players on this year's team.
- 55:12SPEAKER_06: Like, this was gonna be a wash year.
- 55:14SPEAKER_06: And I think uh, you know, to end the year, they got a little bit of positive momentum trending towards them.
- 55:18SPEAKER_06: So I don't know.
- 55:19SPEAKER_06: We'll see.
- 55:21SPEAKER_04: The the the Richard Rodriguez is he or father, uncle?
- 55:25SPEAKER_04: Related?
- 55:26SPEAKER_06: Uh he's not not related.
- 55:28SPEAKER_06: Um, but Jacob Rodriguez is well, yeah.
- 55:31SPEAKER_06: Rich Rod is the worst Rodriguez in this matchup.
- 55:34SPEAKER_06: So uh power to Jacob.
- 55:36SPEAKER_06: I hope we see another cool play of his and uh and you know, hopefully get at least an invite to New York.
- 55:43SPEAKER_06: Heisman time.
- 55:44SPEAKER_04: It was cool of him to go on the Fox uh big noon kickoff just uh walk around and be like Heisman me.
- 55:50SPEAKER_04: I love you.
- 55:50SPEAKER_06: What'd you think of that?
- 55:51SPEAKER_06: What'd you think of that?
- 55:52SPEAKER_03: I loved it, dude.
- 55:54SPEAKER_03: Why not?
- 55:55SPEAKER_06: I liked it too.
- 55:56SPEAKER_06: I'm cool.
- 55:58SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's just so clear.
- 55:59SPEAKER_06: It's like, hey, by the way, I'm here.
- 56:01SPEAKER_06: Hello, Jacob Rodriguez.
- 56:03SPEAKER_06: Nice to meet you.
- 56:04SPEAKER_04: Put me on Heisman Wall in the country.
- 56:07SPEAKER_04: You know, so funny, like yet again today or something.
- 56:10SPEAKER_04: Like, people posted like this is the most boring Mill Toast Heisman race you can imagine, and you have the opportunity to do something fun.
- 56:20SPEAKER_06: The fact of the matter is Arch Manning has just as good a stats as all of the Heisman winners or all the Heisman front runners right now, and it's disgusting.
- 56:31SPEAKER_06: That's really funny, dude.
- 56:33SPEAKER_06: That's funny.
- 56:34SPEAKER_06: This this is further proof that a quarterback does not need to win the Heisman this year, yeah, and yet a quarterback is going to win the Heisman this year.
- 56:42SPEAKER_06: I hate it.
- 56:43SPEAKER_06: The the trophy's broken, end it.
- 56:46SPEAKER_06: Stupid, give it to Jacob Rodriguez, he deserves it.
- 56:49SPEAKER_04: At this point, I feel like people are starting to look at the Heisman voters like AP voters, and that's not a compliment, you know.
- 56:54SPEAKER_04: They are games, yeah.
- 56:56SPEAKER_04: They don't watch the games.
- 56:57SPEAKER_06: Everybody hates the AP, everybody hates the Heisman.
- 57:01SPEAKER_06: This is the worst, it's the worst.
- 57:03SPEAKER_06: J Rod deserves it.
- 57:04SPEAKER_06: Bad timeline.
- 57:06SPEAKER_06: You want to talk about basketball?
- 57:08SPEAKER_06: Because I really don't.
- 57:09SPEAKER_04: No, dude.
- 57:12SPEAKER_06: No, I don't never go to the Bahamas again.
- 57:16SPEAKER_06: Never.
- 57:16SPEAKER_06: We we don't ever need to go to the Bahamas again.
- 57:18SPEAKER_06: Never don't ever don't ever go to the Bahamas.
- 57:21SPEAKER_06: At this moment, we low-key stink.
- 57:23SPEAKER_03: Okay?
- 57:24SPEAKER_03: We low-key stink.
- 57:26SPEAKER_06: The offense is tough to watch.
- 57:27SPEAKER_06: Now, I didn't get a chance to watch the Purdue game, uh, but it wasn't great against Wake Forest.
- 57:33SPEAKER_06: No, or Illinois.
- 57:35SPEAKER_06: I this team, so there's two sides of thinking here, right?
- 57:40SPEAKER_06: This team was not healthy to start the year.
- 57:42SPEAKER_06: This team did not get a lot of chance to mesh and mold with a lot of new players.
- 57:47SPEAKER_06: So there's that side of it.
- 57:48SPEAKER_06: And then there's a side where you lost by 30 points to Purdue.
- 57:52SPEAKER_06: So something needs to change.
- 57:54SPEAKER_06: You need more from these new guys, you need a leader to step up and be a guy and be confident and play with confidence.
- 58:01SPEAKER_06: Tyree Bryan has not been that guy, Donovan Atwell has not been that guy.
- 58:05SPEAKER_06: Christian Anderson has been way too passive for a guy that we need to not be passive.
- 58:10SPEAKER_06: And they're figuring out, hey, they're running these plays for JT Toppin.
- 58:13SPEAKER_06: Why don't we just double this dude?
- 58:15SPEAKER_06: No one else is doing anything, and then it works out for them like 85% of the time.
- 58:20SPEAKER_06: So, yeah, stuff needs to change.
- 58:22SPEAKER_06: And when you play these good teams, you need other guys to step up, and nobody else outside of JT Toppin right now is stepping up.
- 58:29SPEAKER_04: That's it.
- 58:30SPEAKER_04: If if we're not gonna be rewarded with a playoff spot for losing these games, I don't think we should play these blockbuster games, okay?
- 58:38SPEAKER_04: We should just book all the FCS teams we can out with that line of thinking.
- 58:45SPEAKER_06: I hate that we're now all of a sudden not a contender now that we start playing all these good teams.
- 58:50SPEAKER_06: We're still we're not not a contender.
- 58:52SPEAKER_06: I'm not giving up on this season yet.
- 58:54SPEAKER_06: I this team just needs time, it needs real legitimate time to be coached and to figure out how everybody molds together because Bamboye has been here for two games.
- 59:06SPEAKER_06: Christian Anderson is uh, you know, he's been on and off.
- 59:09SPEAKER_06: JT Toppin was hurt to start the year, Watts was hurt to start the year.
- 59:14SPEAKER_06: He needs to get in the mold more.
- 59:15SPEAKER_06: Like, we need a lot to happen between now and March if we want to, you know, potentially see uh this team make some noise.
- 59:24SPEAKER_04: We need to grind some XP, bro.
- 59:27SPEAKER_06: Grind the XP, get in the get in the my street or whatever it is on 2K, and uh, you know, win win some one-on-one black top games, uh, and and maybe get a cool jersey and and some some 2K bucks.
- 59:41SPEAKER_04: ENEL will say you need to steal mom's credit card and get some 2k bucks.
- 59:45SPEAKER_06: Steal mom's credit card so you can put your three-point shooting at 99 and uh just wreck everybody else in the gym.
- 59:52SPEAKER_06: Uh yeah, basketball's got a long way to go.
- 59:54SPEAKER_06: We'll see what happens.
- 59:56SPEAKER_06: Let's finish off the pod with a song of the week, like we do every week.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_06: Tristan, go ahead.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_04: Steven, I'm obsessed with covers.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_04: I see a cover.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_04: I inject it right into my veins, dude.
- 1:00:09SPEAKER_04: I can't resist.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_04: I have to recommend it every single time.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_04: Good news.
- 1:00:14SPEAKER_04: We're staying in Lubbock, Texas with this one.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_04: With a band we rarely ever do, and that's Flatland Cavalry.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_04: This is Flatland Cavalry covered a fellow Red Dirt slash Texas country band in Jason Boland and the Stragglers.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_04: And that song is one of my old favorites.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_04: I think it might even be a uh uh old song of the week from years ago on this pod.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_04: And that cover is somewhere down in Texas.
- 1:00:45SPEAKER_04: Just a great song for anyone who has any sort of connective tissue to the state.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_04: Just a good homage to the Lone Star State.
- 1:00:53SPEAKER_04: There's not many songs about Texas, you know?
- 1:00:55SPEAKER_01: So once you find one, you gotta bump it.
- 1:01:01SPEAKER_04: You know what I mean?
- 1:01:02SPEAKER_04: So somewhere down in Texas, Flatland Calvary credited to the Jason Bowler and the Strugglers.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_01: I know I can find me a place that's on a shining somewhere in Texas.
- 1:01:17SPEAKER_06: Stragglers.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_06: Jason, Jason Boland, did he have the alien song?
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he had the alien song.
- 1:01:23SPEAKER_06: Okay, that's the one you did on Song of the Week a while back.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_06: But I don't think we've done this one before.
- 1:01:29SPEAKER_06: Alien Song Song.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_06: That's a good, good song of the week.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_06: Mine has some significance to it.
- 1:01:35SPEAKER_06: So take it back a little bit, Tristan, now that I got you here.
- 1:01:41SPEAKER_06: We're juniors in high school, we're hanging out.
- 1:01:45SPEAKER_06: You say, hey, you know, my brother goes to this school, Texas Tech.
- 1:01:49SPEAKER_06: I didn't know where I wanted to go to school at that point.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_06: You were pretty upset on going to tech.
- 1:01:54SPEAKER_06: You were like, hey, we're going to visit my brother.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_06: We're gonna go up.
- 1:01:58SPEAKER_06: They're playing this West Virginia team that's like number five in the country.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_06: They're pretty good.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_06: Geno Smith, you know, pretty decent team.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_06: And then I went with you.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_06: We stayed in the basement of your brother's house.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_06: It was a great time.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_06: And Texas Tech just annihilated a really, really good West Virginia team.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_06: Uh number five in the country, I believe, West Virginia was in 2012.
- 1:02:22SPEAKER_06: So I want to do a little throwback to 2012.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_06: When we watched that game, it was my first ever Texas Tech, I believe it was your first ever Texas Tech game as well.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_06: I could be wrong.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, maybe.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but it was definitely my first Texas Tech game watching live in Lovick, Texas.
- 1:02:38SPEAKER_06: So I'm throwing it back to 2012 with another significant band of you and I's friendship, the Eli Young Band, who was popping in 2012.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_06: I believe we went to the rodeo and saw them and watched them play.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_04: We went on a date.
- 1:02:54SPEAKER_06: We did.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_06: We went on a little bro date, watched Eli Young Band.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_06: It was a great time.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_06: Um, my song of the week is Even If It Breaks Your Heart, Eli Young Band.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_06: Great, great song, fantastic jam.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_06: We're not going to talk about what Eli Young has done lately, but we're going to talk about this album and this time frame of Eli Young.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_06: And so that is just a great song, and it's a throwback to a wonderful time uh watching the Texas Tech Red Raiders upset West Virginia, and we're playing West Virginia this weekend.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_06: So even if it breaks your heart, Eli Young band.
- 1:03:40SPEAKER_04: Is that the uh Life at Best album?
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_06: I believe so.
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_04: That album's got like nothing but heaters on it, dude.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_06: Dude, I I tell you what, old Eli Young and old Zach Brown, that was such good music.
- 1:03:54SPEAKER_06: And both of them, yeah, both of them just went real downhill most times.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_06: I mean, it was it's just bad news.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_06: So I went to the 2012 Top of the Charts country music, and I saw Eli Young, and I was like, okay, gotta do it.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, that feels like Crazy Girl and all that time.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_04: So that was that was a pop in time for them.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_04: I'm glad you and I got to hold hands at the rodeo and see them.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_06: We did not hold hands from what I remember.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_06: Sure do.
- 1:04:20SPEAKER_06: Uh sure dude.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_06: Tell it, say it for the podcast, I guess.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_06: All right, man.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_06: We're gonna end it off right here.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_06: I hope everybody enjoys their viewing experience and we're celebrating a first ever trip to Arlington, Texas for the Big 12 championship this weekend.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_06: Uh, we will be tuned in at 11 a.m.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_06: God's time to watch Texas Tech play the West Virginia Mountaineers.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_06: You can follow both me and Tristan on Twitter.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_06: Tristan's at Tristan Mick.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_06: I'm at L underscore S underscore Rodriguez.

- 1:04:57SPEAKER_01: First of all, uh got a lot of respect for Steven and Tristan.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_01: Uh their program, tough guys, just uh a lot of fun.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_01: This is wild.
- 1:05:09SPEAKER_01: When I walked in and I knew this would be an awesome podcast, and these guys have been tremendous.
- 1:05:17SPEAKER_01: I love you, and I can't wait for this journey.
- 1:05:19SPEAKER_01: I would like to thank uh Steven and Tristan.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_02: This is incredible.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_02: These guys have a passion and a love for this school.
