- 0:17Speaker 2: Return to Glory Podcast. Hows are picking off the free tag?
- 0:22Speaker 3: Gentlemen, It's been a few weeks since we've last talked.
- 0:26Speaker 3: A lot has happened. It's been a busy time of
- 0:29Speaker 3: the year. How is life.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Life's good. There's a busy time of year. I'm assuming
- 0:36Speaker 4: you know, Lady Oh there full swinging. I saw Senior
- 0:40Speaker 4: Night was the other night. How are Lady Oh holding up?
- 0:44Speaker 2: Good?
- 0:45Speaker 4: We are.
- 0:45Speaker 3: I don't even know what our record is heading into postseason.
- 0:51Speaker 3: We just kind of figured out our district pairings last
- 0:55Speaker 3: night actually, so heading into postseason, are sitting pretty decent
- 1:00Speaker 3: for for that and hopefully have a chance to make
- 1:06Speaker 3: the state tournament.
- 1:08Speaker 5: We did.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Have an injury to one of our best, better players,
- 1:13Speaker 3: so that was unfortunate season ending and very kind of
- 1:18Speaker 3: kind of sad, but the team's responding well and we're
- 1:24Speaker 3: set here for a good run hopefully at the end
- 1:26Speaker 3: of the year.
- 1:27Speaker 5: The defense has looked fantastic this year.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Thank you Dak.
- 1:33Speaker 5: Yeah you have not watched his play once one time
- 1:37Speaker 5: for about half a quarter.
- 1:38Speaker 6: But yeah, now life, life's been going great. This is
- 1:44Speaker 6: getting into my favorite time of the sports season. It's
- 1:47Speaker 6: starting to the last two or three weeks. College basketball
- 1:50Speaker 6: leading into March Madness is awesome, Like it's starting to
- 1:52Speaker 6: feel like every game is a big game and this
- 1:58Speaker 6: is yeah, this this is when I get into college
- 1:59Speaker 6: by that's one big time.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yeah, we're in.
- 2:04Speaker 3: We're in the thick of it, that's for sure. I
- 2:07Speaker 3: was just talking the other day with someone that I said,
- 2:10Speaker 3: the best time of the year, one of the best
- 2:12Speaker 3: times of the year, if not the best, is kind
- 2:15Speaker 3: of from state tournament in high school through the Masters week.
- 2:20Speaker 3: You know, that six week span is doesn't get.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Much better than that. You know, you could argue to
- 2:26Speaker 2: start a football season.
- 2:27Speaker 6: But naha, but then football comes around, We'll say that's
- 2:33Speaker 6: the best.
- 2:34Speaker 5: Time of the year.
- 2:34Speaker 4: So well, that's true.
- 2:37Speaker 5: And in the moment right now, March Madness.
- 2:39Speaker 2: Is where do we begin today?
- 2:44Speaker 3: I mean, I think we got to talk some basketball obviously,
- 2:49Speaker 3: been a little bit of football talk, although I think
- 2:52Speaker 3: we're all in the same.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Boat where the interest there is hell a.
- 2:56Speaker 5: Little bit lo So do they do they start springing
- 3:01Speaker 5: practice today?
- 3:02Speaker 6: Then I saw somewhere, I saw somewhere they have their
- 3:05Speaker 6: first interviews today, and I don't know if it's tomorrow
- 3:07Speaker 6: or today.
- 3:08Speaker 5: They start springing practice.
- 3:09Speaker 2: But that tells you where my interest is that I am.
- 3:13Speaker 6: Yeah, I know, I just I just saw that last
- 3:17Speaker 6: night that they said there's a little interest in. There's
- 3:19Speaker 6: interviews tomorrow and practice starts some you know sometime soon.
- 3:22Speaker 5: It starts.
- 3:25Speaker 2: DA told me yesterday he knows our starting quarterback for
- 3:27Speaker 2: next year. So that's good.
- 3:29Speaker 6: Yeah, according to according to the ticket, it's gonna be
- 3:32Speaker 6: Dan Danny Kaleny. Give him a shot because he because
- 3:39Speaker 6: he's he's smart, and he's played football a lot.
- 3:42Speaker 5: That's basically was all they said.
- 3:45Speaker 6: You know, I don't think that's the best option, but
- 3:47Speaker 6: sure rolled out there.
- 3:48Speaker 5: By this point, who really cares?
- 3:54Speaker 4: So yeah, I haven't football. I mean baseball and softball started.
- 3:58Speaker 4: I haven't. I mean that's how love football is.
- 4:01Speaker 3: Yeah, Horizon, Yeah, Bold Baseball and softball are also in swing.
- 4:07Speaker 3: Could be playing in Nebraska with the with the weather
- 4:10Speaker 3: that we've had here lately.
- 4:12Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean the softball team already has wins over
- 4:17Speaker 4: the number one two different number one teams. Yes, they have,
- 4:22Speaker 4: so that's exciting.
- 4:24Speaker 3: As the one thing I got to say about the
- 4:25Speaker 3: softball team is I did not know Jordi Ball got
- 4:29Speaker 3: married and so I was so confused.
- 4:33Speaker 2: I'm like, where did she go?
- 4:35Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 4:37Speaker 2: And I had, I had.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I was like, why is she not on the team?
- 4:39Speaker 3: And then I'm like, oh, there's another Jeordy. I'm like, oh, no,
- 4:42Speaker 3: she got married, sure not, Yeah she did.
- 4:44Speaker 4: So that was.
- 4:48Speaker 5: That was the same way I was.
- 4:49Speaker 6: I was like, who is this pitching for the Huskers?
- 4:51Speaker 6: She's pretty good?
- 4:52Speaker 4: Well we should just should be that's funny. Yeah, So
- 5:00Speaker 4: they've had a good start. The men, I don't remember
- 5:03Speaker 4: how they they've had decent start too, have three and one.
- 5:08Speaker 2: Yep, we we wont a few games to start the year.
- 5:11Speaker 2: So been good. I mean we start there, well we don't.
- 5:15Speaker 3: You know, we don't talk a lot of baseball softball, but.
- 5:19Speaker 4: When the softball team has two wins over a number
- 5:22Speaker 4: one team in the country, you kind of got to
- 5:23Speaker 4: mention it.
- 5:24Speaker 5: So, yes, you're gonna talk about a gallon to start
- 5:26Speaker 5: the year.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Though, jeez, that's the hardest, gotta be the hardest ten
- 5:29Speaker 6: game stretch ever started season.
- 5:30Speaker 4: Notice, yeah, I don't follow college in softball, but I
- 5:33Speaker 4: was like looking at the terms, like, jeez, they got
- 5:36Speaker 4: only only good ball ball teams down there, Like you.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Know what I think they kind of wanted that. I
- 5:41Speaker 3: think this team that is. I mean, obviously with scheduling,
- 5:46Speaker 3: you have some say in what you can't you do
- 5:50Speaker 3: you want to play, and I think they kind of
- 5:53Speaker 3: wanted that a little bit at you know, we're ranked
- 5:55Speaker 3: in the top ten the softball team is.
- 5:57Speaker 4: And that gives you, that gives you a little leeway
- 6:00Speaker 4: as far as you know lass you can get you
- 6:03Speaker 4: start out.
- 6:03Speaker 3: That hu correct, And I think you want to play
- 6:05Speaker 3: the competition. You want to see where you're at, you know.
- 6:07Speaker 3: And I think we've kind of shown, you know, we're
- 6:10Speaker 3: worthy of a top twenty five team, and we've you know,
- 6:12Speaker 3: we've obviously beat two different number one teams. We've lost
- 6:16Speaker 3: a couple of games in there as well, but you
- 6:18Speaker 3: know we're worthy of being in that conversation.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And clearly after the first.
- 6:24Speaker 4: Few games of the year, Okay, enough softball talk. Good
- 6:28Speaker 4: for us though, Way to go guys, great job.
- 6:31Speaker 3: Hell they're got to basketball right the first time.
- 6:35Speaker 2: I don't really want to talk about basketball because of
- 6:37Speaker 2: how things have gone.
- 6:38Speaker 3: But Uscars are on a little skidd here after starting
- 6:43Speaker 3: the year twenty and oh, we are now twenty two
- 6:47Speaker 3: and four. We've lost four of our last six and
- 6:52Speaker 3: most recently as of last night. Late last night, a
- 6:56Speaker 3: fifty two to fifty seven loss to the team to
- 7:02Speaker 3: the East, Iowa Hawkeyes.
- 7:07Speaker 4: I okay, one, I want to start. I'm not gonna
- 7:13Speaker 4: let the little skid. We went a good season. We knew,
- 7:18Speaker 4: we kind of knew there were moments where we had
- 7:21Speaker 4: hopes for Actually, we kind of knew once we started
- 7:24Speaker 4: twenty No, it was probably a two or three seed.
- 7:26Speaker 4: And that's where it's still kind of looking. Iowa on
- 7:31Speaker 4: the road was it was ranked as one of our
- 7:35Speaker 4: tougher games left. I think it was ranked higher than
- 7:37Speaker 4: the Purdue game at home as far as difficulty. I
- 7:40Speaker 4: could be remembering that wrong. We have since Frager and
- 7:48Speaker 4: Mask came back. We just look a little I don't
- 7:54Speaker 4: say flat, but we are scoring droughts are more frequent,
- 8:00Speaker 4: and I don't know if that's just because Frager seems different.
- 8:05Speaker 4: I could be interpreted and wrong. I'm happy to hear
- 8:07Speaker 4: you guys here. I'm not gonna again. I don't want
- 8:09Speaker 4: to overreact because we lost to Iowa essentially by three.
- 8:13Speaker 4: We ended up falling with like seven seconds left and
- 8:17Speaker 4: that's how they got their five and then we lost
- 8:19Speaker 4: in overtime to Purdue after being down twenty two at home,
- 8:23Speaker 4: and then we lost to Michigan by three after we
- 8:27Speaker 4: led the game for thirty nine minutes, and then we
- 8:31Speaker 4: lost to Illinois at home, which I think what's coming
- 8:37Speaker 4: to Fruition, especially with the Illinois game, was just the
- 8:39Speaker 4: size when teams are big. If I had a oh
- 8:43Speaker 4: my gosh last night, if I had to watch Iowa
- 8:45Speaker 4: in an offensive rebound more freaking time, I was gonna
- 8:47Speaker 4: throw my freaking laptop at the wall. It was just maddening.
- 8:52Speaker 4: The offensive rebounds are killing us. That was my brief
- 8:58Speaker 4: little We haven't talked since I remember when, but yeah.
- 9:06Speaker 2: I think there's a lot to unpacked there.
- 9:08Speaker 3: There's uh, definitely some good teams in the Big Ten.
- 9:12Speaker 3: We know that, and we've played every game very very close.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Uh it's unlike some of these other teams, even at
- 9:22Speaker 3: the top, they've had some some blowouts, so.
- 9:25Speaker 2: They've all been obviously close games.
- 9:28Speaker 3: I think that if you want to open up the
- 9:30Speaker 3: bigger conversation, it's what are the expectations of this team?
- 9:35Speaker 2: And yes, it's been a really good season, right, and.
- 9:38Speaker 3: And we even got all the way up to that
- 9:40Speaker 3: one seed line for a little bit there when when
- 9:43Speaker 3: we were rolling undefeated, and who knows where we'll end up.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I mean I think you know you mentioned the two
- 9:49Speaker 3: or three seed. I you know, I see a lot
- 9:52Speaker 3: more four seeds now. I mean, depending on how the
- 9:55Speaker 3: season ends up, you could probably still fall a little
- 9:59Speaker 3: bit more, could also come back up to a two seed,
- 10:01Speaker 3: depending on how thing's end. So, yeah, it's been a
- 10:03Speaker 3: good year, and you can't take that away. I don't
- 10:07Speaker 3: think there's not going to be much that could happen
- 10:09Speaker 3: here for it not to be a good year worldwhile
- 10:13Speaker 3: losing a lot of games and not winning a first
- 10:15Speaker 3: round of the NCAA tournament, that would that would that
- 10:18Speaker 3: would have that would answer that question. But I don't
- 10:21Speaker 3: think we're there yet. I do think you're saying a
- 10:25Speaker 3: lot of things that are being exploited now. You mentioned
- 10:31Speaker 3: the the Mass and Fragger injuries. Mass illness and Fragger's
- 10:36Speaker 3: ankle that happened a couple of games ago. They are
- 10:40Speaker 3: now back and playing, but but things just have seemed
- 10:43Speaker 3: a little bit off than than what they were used
- 10:47Speaker 3: to and I don't know that's all because of injury.
- 10:50Speaker 3: I think you're also at a point in the year
- 10:52Speaker 3: where teams have good scouting.
- 10:56Speaker 4: Reports and then they is not what it was at
- 11:02Speaker 4: the beginning of the year that curl up around the
- 11:04Speaker 4: screen where he basically get any three people have figured
- 11:08Speaker 4: that out and that is not there anymore.
- 11:10Speaker 3: I mean just Price in general, I would say just
- 11:12Speaker 3: his ability to shoot and drive. You know, he's he's
- 11:17Speaker 3: obviously not the most athletic individual, but he has some strengths.
- 11:21Speaker 3: And I say athletic quick, I guess, and and you know,
- 11:25Speaker 3: so as an example, but I think you can go
- 11:27Speaker 3: down the list of our team's strengths and what they're
- 11:32Speaker 3: really really good at in tendencies, and I think just
- 11:34Speaker 3: teams have a better idea of what we're trying to
- 11:36Speaker 3: do right now, which which then now falls back on
- 11:40Speaker 3: UH coach Hoyburg and and you know, the offensive side
- 11:43Speaker 3: of the ball to figure out, Okay, how can we
- 11:46Speaker 3: continue to be creative with our players that we have
- 11:49Speaker 3: to get us some open looks, whether it be from
- 11:54Speaker 3: the three point line or.
- 11:57Speaker 2: On the inside.
- 11:58Speaker 3: And you know, you saw Masked like against Rutgers go
- 12:01Speaker 3: off and have a really really good game. You know,
- 12:04Speaker 3: Northwestern we struggled and then had a good second half.
- 12:07Speaker 3: So like it again, it's not like things are blowing up,
- 12:11Speaker 3: but we're seeing some losses now.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Uh, and it's still get Like I said, there are
- 12:16Speaker 4: three losses are to the number three Michigan, number nine
- 12:19Speaker 4: Illinois that we're thirty perdue, and then Iowa on their road.
- 12:23Speaker 4: You know.
- 12:25Speaker 6: Yeah, it's yeah, a lot of a lot of the
- 12:29Speaker 6: flaws are just showing up here.
- 12:30Speaker 5: It's it's it's terrible.
- 12:34Speaker 6: Like last night last night, Prude, we we basically live
- 12:39Speaker 6: and died by the three. It was the worst we've
- 12:41Speaker 6: shot by three this season by a while.
- 12:43Speaker 5: And let's we score for two points. It's it was awful.
- 12:47Speaker 6: But watching watching the end of that game, I figured
- 12:49Speaker 6: out Iowa has their guy they want to go to
- 12:53Speaker 6: towards the end of the game. He's gonna take over
- 12:54Speaker 6: and that's it. It starts whatever. By the way, man up,
- 12:57Speaker 6: you were never hurt. Start stop stop thinking r injuries.
- 13:01Speaker 6: You're never heard. But anyway, who is Nebrassa's go to
- 13:05Speaker 6: guy the end the game? I don't have a clue.
- 13:07Speaker 6: We have multiple guys that can do it, but we
- 13:10Speaker 6: don't have the main number one.
- 13:11Speaker 4: I don't feel like if I had this one that said.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Their philosophy is hot hand too. It seems like if
- 13:18Speaker 4: they want someone to take the last shot, it's almost
- 13:20Speaker 4: always JaMarcus Lawrence. He had at the other the Perdue,
- 13:25Speaker 4: he had the ball against Daniel Illinois. He had the
- 13:27Speaker 4: ball Daniel Iowa.
- 13:32Speaker 3: I don't think it's JaMarcus Lawrence. I think what we've
- 13:35Speaker 3: done is Sam's been the one driving it.
- 13:40Speaker 4: That's true, So.
- 13:42Speaker 2: You're right.
- 13:43Speaker 3: I do think that's that's could be an issue. I
- 13:46Speaker 3: also don't know that that's I don't know it's it's
- 13:51Speaker 3: a it's a philosophy thing on what you believe, and yeah, Iowa,
- 13:54Speaker 3: everybody knows that stirs.
- 13:58Speaker 5: Their guy.
- 14:00Speaker 3: I think we have several guys and I do agree, Yeah, Austin,
- 14:02Speaker 3: it's kind of the hot hand on who's playing well.
- 14:06Speaker 3: And I think this team is kind of like that.
- 14:08Speaker 3: I mean, cal Jacobson last couple of games has played
- 14:10Speaker 3: a lot more late over Frager. Like that, that's just
- 14:13Speaker 3: kind of the lineup that we've gone with because he's
- 14:19Speaker 3: been playing better on both sides of the ball than Frager.
- 14:22Speaker 3: So I do think there's a piece of that, but
- 14:24Speaker 3: that also is a little bit of Okay, who's going
- 14:27Speaker 3: to step up and do it, and JaMarcus is the
- 14:29Speaker 3: senior that has the experience that the leadership. You can
- 14:34Speaker 3: tell he's the one that him and Mass are kind
- 14:37Speaker 3: of the two that are leading that charge. So you know, yeah,
- 14:43Speaker 3: I think that's a little bit of a concern. But
- 14:45Speaker 3: also you can see the way our offense runs. It's
- 14:47Speaker 3: not like it runs through one guy throughout the course
- 14:51Speaker 3: of Again, I'm not talking about late I'm talking about
- 14:53Speaker 3: the whole game. And you know, it's a little bit
- 14:56Speaker 3: of Sandford with a lot of our actions, you know,
- 15:00Speaker 3: but but Mast has this time wherever runn our offense
- 15:03Speaker 3: through him and then our best driver, Sam, and sometimes
- 15:07Speaker 3: it looks like our offense is Sam. Our best offense
- 15:10Speaker 3: is same driving the ball and either creating for himself
- 15:12Speaker 3: or others. So there's a lot of different pieces there
- 15:15Speaker 3: that Again it's good because it makes it hard to guard.
- 15:17Speaker 2: But also in the same time, towards the end of
- 15:20Speaker 2: the game, you wonder, okay, what what what what? What
- 15:24Speaker 2: are we trying to get? What are we looking for?
- 15:28Speaker 5: Yeah, it felt like because I was trying to forguretwar
- 15:30Speaker 5: think it.
- 15:30Speaker 6: It feels like Mass is probably our go to guy
- 15:34Speaker 6: that's what I would say, at least that's who we
- 15:37Speaker 6: were trying to end in the game, and he it's
- 15:41Speaker 6: it was just frustrating the whole game. And I don't
- 15:42Speaker 6: know if it was the rest went in a player what,
- 15:45Speaker 6: but just feel like our freepoint guys could never get
- 15:48Speaker 6: off anything of them. They they were just all over
- 15:51Speaker 6: us the whole game and and I don't know, it's
- 15:58Speaker 6: it just feels like I was I only had more
- 16:01Speaker 6: intensity too. I felt like I just feel like we
- 16:03Speaker 6: weren't really locked in to start the game.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Yeah, they were at home and there was a top
- 16:08Speaker 4: ten matchup, and.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I'll say this, Ben McCollum has done a really good
- 16:14Speaker 3: job and he's a good coach at Iowa.
- 16:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:16Speaker 3: I mean think about some of our games against them.
- 16:20Speaker 3: They have been very high scoring offensive battles in the
- 16:24Speaker 3: past when they when they had Fray McCaffrey and neither
- 16:27Speaker 3: team could stop be their team. I always had the
- 16:29Speaker 3: shooters everywhere, you know, the Price Stanford of the.
- 16:33Speaker 2: World that have kicked our butt.
- 16:36Speaker 3: And it's an opposite style now with our two teams.
- 16:41Speaker 3: And then it was a couple of years ago we
- 16:44Speaker 3: were the two leading teams in the Big ten of
- 16:48Speaker 3: points allowed in conference place so far this year. Iowa
- 16:52Speaker 3: being won us too, and so I was evident by
- 16:55Speaker 3: the score here and and yeah, they took away what
- 16:58Speaker 3: we were comfortable doing, and we didn't shoot it great,
- 17:02Speaker 3: which was a wasn't a product of us getting wide
- 17:04Speaker 3: open looks and makes we got We had a few,
- 17:06Speaker 3: but a lot of our stuff was very very contested
- 17:09Speaker 3: or or deep. And they aint credit to Iowa and
- 17:12Speaker 3: everything they do, and you're their intensity and physicality, toughness,
- 17:16Speaker 3: all of those things.
- 17:17Speaker 2: That's how they won that game last night.
- 17:20Speaker 3: And that's frustrating to hear because once again that's what
- 17:23Speaker 3: we have felt like our strength has been, why we
- 17:27Speaker 3: have had the season that we've had are those things
- 17:30Speaker 3: and then just like the football team, Iowa comes in
- 17:33Speaker 3: and do does those things better than us and beats us,
- 17:36Speaker 3: and you just want to go.
- 17:39Speaker 2: It's frustrating, it's hard. But again, gret to Iolea, like,
- 17:43Speaker 2: I'm not I am.
- 17:44Speaker 3: Not talking bad and saying Iowa no like that that
- 17:49Speaker 3: they are they are. I'm impressed by Ben McCallum, like
- 17:52Speaker 3: they've done a really good job and I think they're
- 17:54Speaker 3: They're now nine and six in conference play, they're not.
- 17:57Speaker 2: They're up there, They're not.
- 17:59Speaker 4: They've danced around being ranked all year. You know, they
- 18:01Speaker 4: were ranked for a little bit. I think at one
- 18:03Speaker 4: point they got up to number eighteen in Vegas.
- 18:05Speaker 2: No Ioa was even ranked last.
- 18:07Speaker 4: Night, yeah, or not ranked favorite? Yeah, No, I had
- 18:12Speaker 4: that thought last night. Set. I remember last year when
- 18:16Speaker 4: we were having the Fred Hoiberg discussion, one of the
- 18:18Speaker 4: times we were talking about who we'd want instead, and
- 18:21Speaker 4: I do remember we talked about Ben McCollum as like, okay,
- 18:25Speaker 4: like it was Will Will Wade and Ben McCollum were
- 18:28Speaker 4: kind of the two that we were talking about. We went, so, yeah,
- 18:35Speaker 4: it just sucks. I don't know if it's just because
- 18:40Speaker 4: we need we you know, when we were doing really well,
- 18:42Speaker 4: Franker was getting you know, thirteen twelve, thirteen points off
- 18:46Speaker 4: the bench. Some nights he was getting twenty points off
- 18:48Speaker 4: the bench, and he's you know, he hasn't looked like
- 18:52Speaker 4: that since coming back from the injury. And I mean,
- 18:57Speaker 4: our size has been just like against Perdue and against
- 19:01Speaker 4: Illinois and then the offensive rebounding last night. And I
- 19:03Speaker 4: don't know if that's a practic size, but I just
- 19:05Speaker 4: don't understand why we're never in position to rebound, and
- 19:07Speaker 4: it drives me freaking nuts.
- 19:09Speaker 5: It feels like we pushed around too.
- 19:12Speaker 3: So, oh, guys, we're white, Like, yeah, that's I'm sorry
- 19:17Speaker 3: to say it, but.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I think are are. We are not the most athletic team.
- 19:23Speaker 3: We have some length, but we are not super quick
- 19:27Speaker 3: and physical from just a pure stature standpoint. I mean,
- 19:31Speaker 3: you look at our team, your top forty five teams,
- 19:34Speaker 3: how many of them play. And I'm not I'm not
- 19:36Speaker 3: discrediting these guys at all because actually I think Sam's
- 19:40Speaker 3: probably one of.
- 19:41Speaker 2: Our best rebounders.
- 19:41Speaker 3: But like Sam and Kale, like they're what six foot
- 19:46Speaker 3: six to one guards that are both playing at the
- 19:49Speaker 3: end of the game.
- 19:51Speaker 2: You don't see that in a lot of places.
- 19:54Speaker 3: So again, when they when they're your kind of best rebounder,
- 19:57Speaker 3: say do the best job of it.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Like we we just are lacking.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Just miss is playing, I just wish was playing.
- 20:09Speaker 2: And I think he would help a lot.
- 20:10Speaker 3: I mean, I think Barrika is a solid rebounder and
- 20:13Speaker 3: and does some good things.
- 20:15Speaker 2: That's obviously one of his strengths.
- 20:18Speaker 3: Mass for a big He's not Matt Mask isn't one
- 20:21Speaker 3: of those pigs that can go out and jump out
- 20:22Speaker 3: of the gym. You know, given his injuries, he's he's
- 20:25Speaker 3: a big but he's not. One of his strengths is
- 20:27Speaker 3: not rebounding. Price is definitely not big o Bard last night.
- 20:36Speaker 3: So yeah, that that's becoming more of a glurring issue,
- 20:41Speaker 3: not just in the Iowa game, but I remember the.
- 20:46Speaker 2: We could rebound. We had that game one at home,
- 20:50Speaker 2: after the crazy game that was and the comeback and.
- 20:54Speaker 4: We missed the free throw.
- 20:57Speaker 3: There's a lot of things that game that it was weird,
- 20:59Speaker 3: We're going our butts kick, so it was like, Nope,
- 21:02Speaker 3: we don't deserve to win, don't deserve to win, and
- 21:04Speaker 3: then we actually could have won, but then missed, couldn't good,
- 21:09Speaker 3: couldn't finish the game with the rebound. There was the yeah,
- 21:12Speaker 3: the Massi miss free throw after the and one to
- 21:16Speaker 3: set it to overtime. So there's a lot of things
- 21:18Speaker 3: in that game that you know, if we had a
- 21:20Speaker 3: pot after that that we would have went through that
- 21:23Speaker 3: you didn't feel like we were we should have won
- 21:24Speaker 3: that game, but we were in it and had and
- 21:27Speaker 3: probably should have won it in the end, but didn't.
- 21:30Speaker 3: So that that is becoming more of an eye opening thing.
- 21:33Speaker 3: And here's what's scary. There are teams that match up
- 21:41Speaker 3: very very well against US. I think Iowa was kind
- 21:45Speaker 3: of one of those teams. And there's teams out there
- 21:49Speaker 3: that are going to be sitting on those twelve to
- 21:51Speaker 3: fifteen lines that are going to fit those demographics and
- 21:57Speaker 3: could cause a lot of problems in the opening round
- 21:59Speaker 3: of the turn of it. Now, whether we play one
- 22:01Speaker 3: of those teams or not, we will see. If we
- 22:04Speaker 3: play one of those high flying, like three point shooting,
- 22:08Speaker 3: not very tough, but I think we're gonna be okay.
- 22:11Speaker 3: Like I think we're gonna match up well. But if
- 22:13Speaker 3: we play one of these like gritty built like size
- 22:19Speaker 3: wise defensively and then have just enough shooters, it's not
- 22:25Speaker 3: gonna be good.
- 22:26Speaker 2: So we'll see, you know, in the future on that.
- 22:30Speaker 6: But this is yeah, that's the type of game you
- 22:32Speaker 6: want Nebraska to be in. Is like a fifty in
- 22:34Speaker 6: the fifties to low sixties game. That's that's what style
- 22:39Speaker 6: you want Nebraska. If you're opponent to play as you
- 22:42Speaker 6: don't want to put an up eighty ninety points game,
- 22:45Speaker 6: then we're just the physicality is a problem. And I
- 22:49Speaker 6: don't know what Franker has shot since he came back
- 22:51Speaker 6: from injury, but it has to be horrific. I feel
- 22:53Speaker 6: like he's not hitting any threes anymore.
- 22:56Speaker 5: And yeah, he's.
- 22:59Speaker 6: Been a big Burke Burke for the love of god,
- 23:03Speaker 6: Can you quit shooting threes?
- 23:06Speaker 5: You cannot make them. I don't care how much room
- 23:07Speaker 5: they give you.
- 23:08Speaker 6: Which that's a huge problem too, is how far people
- 23:10Speaker 6: say go off on him. That's that's a big problem.
- 23:13Speaker 6: But just quit shooting them. We know you can't make them.
- 23:16Speaker 6: There's no shots going in. But yeah, he drives me
- 23:21Speaker 6: nuts that he probably had won his better games last
- 23:24Speaker 6: night of the season, but yeah, any anytime, and not
- 23:32Speaker 6: hitting our threes is shown right now.
- 23:33Speaker 3: We we're a lot better scouted, right, Like, there were
- 23:39Speaker 3: a lot of surprises for Husker fans as well.
- 23:41Speaker 2: Breaker was one of those. Samfort being another one of those.
- 23:45Speaker 3: I don't think anybody kind of saw his shooting capabilities
- 23:50Speaker 3: until we saw so I think mass shooting abilities too
- 23:55Speaker 3: early on in the year was like, oh, well this
- 23:57Speaker 3: is we knew we could kind of shoot it, but
- 24:00Speaker 3: to that level now he's not quite there again.
- 24:03Speaker 5: Yeah, he's not his threes either lately.
- 24:05Speaker 2: So it's it's just funny. I just think.
- 24:08Speaker 3: But you know, you can say they're not making them right,
- 24:11Speaker 3: but I think there's a big, big reason is because
- 24:16Speaker 3: they're they're they're just being guarded a lot differently, like tighter,
- 24:21Speaker 3: and they know what teams teams have good coaches in
- 24:25Speaker 3: the Big ten, and they understand what our strengths are
- 24:28Speaker 3: and teams are taking that away right now on that
- 24:31Speaker 3: side of the ball, and it's leading to some offensive
- 24:36Speaker 3: struggles right now. And so yeah, again that's what I said.
- 24:38Speaker 3: That kind of goes back to the hoy Bergen saying, Okay,
- 24:42Speaker 3: like now.
- 24:43Speaker 2: Let's find a way to chase the things up.
- 24:45Speaker 3: And you know, if we've had some of these really
- 24:47Speaker 3: awesome actions that are now being defended, so now it's
- 24:51Speaker 3: time to you know, counter the counter, find find some
- 24:55Speaker 3: new things that that'll.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Exploit.
- 24:58Speaker 4: That are still really good at second half adjustments, I know,
- 25:03Speaker 4: but we've still been good at that. I think looking
- 25:05Speaker 4: up the last four games, Fregris hit three threes.
- 25:09Speaker 5: So what's he shooting in those games three for?
- 25:16Speaker 4: I don't know that out, but not great.
- 25:19Speaker 6: Yeah, And the good part about it is Fred is
- 25:24Speaker 6: good enough coach and he'll figure this out. How to
- 25:28Speaker 6: and and then we have that good defense. Nate Lenzer
- 25:30Speaker 6: is a hell of a defensive coach. But these it's
- 25:33Speaker 6: first halfs are driving crazy too.
- 25:35Speaker 5: We need to Why don't we come out like we
- 25:38Speaker 5: did in the second half.
- 25:39Speaker 6: In the first half of games, it feels like, oh,
- 25:41Speaker 6: we'll always rely on second half to figure our defensive struggles,
- 25:44Speaker 6: like I even against Northwestern. Yeah, we we start out
- 25:51Speaker 6: slow on the first half. These first halfs are coming
- 25:52Speaker 6: back to bias a little bit, like gets Purdue. You
- 25:54Speaker 6: can't can't fall down these teams ten to twelve points
- 25:57Speaker 6: and expect to come back every time just because our
- 25:59Speaker 6: second half events is gonna bail us out.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Oh why do you think that's happening?
- 26:06Speaker 6: I I think, like you said, teams have a scouted
- 26:09Speaker 6: better to start out and they know we're gonna run
- 26:12Speaker 6: and then let me change it.
- 26:14Speaker 5: The second half come out like that. Very good.
- 26:21Speaker 6: But yeah, but like you said, let's counter them, let's
- 26:25Speaker 6: come out, let's come out better.
- 26:27Speaker 5: In the first half.
- 26:29Speaker 4: We were not getting killed in the first that's again
- 26:32Speaker 4: that side of Purdue. But Purdue came out and shot
- 26:34Speaker 4: like I mean, they hit like their first it was
- 26:37Speaker 4: like five or six three. You know, that was just
- 26:39Speaker 4: a that was an adjustment that we made relatively quick.
- 26:44Speaker 4: We got down big. We were down like sixteen to
- 26:46Speaker 4: three in the first five minutes, and then we you know,
- 26:50Speaker 4: we kind of they kind of cooled off and we
- 26:52Speaker 4: covered it out. But all things that we have five left,
- 26:55Speaker 4: they're all very winnable. So we got done.
- 27:00Speaker 5: We're done.
- 27:00Speaker 2: We're done with the ranked teams here.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Becomes ranked by the end of it, which possible.
- 27:08Speaker 3: We go Penn State at home, Maryland at home at
- 27:10Speaker 3: USC at u C l A, and then Iowa home
- 27:14Speaker 3: on Sunday, March eighth. The target is what I guess
- 27:20Speaker 3: for we're again this This is where as a as
- 27:25Speaker 3: a Husker basketball fan, you could go down a lot
- 27:29Speaker 3: of different roads here to end the year. So let's
- 27:31Speaker 3: first start regular season, like where would you like for
- 27:36Speaker 3: us to be to set us up into one in
- 27:39Speaker 3: the Big Ten tournament, but two into the NCAA tournament.
- 27:44Speaker 4: Uh So we have five games left, obviously someone going
- 27:47Speaker 4: off five. If we end three and two, four and one,
- 27:50Speaker 4: I think that's good enough to get us to the
- 27:51Speaker 4: three round or the you know, the triple by or
- 27:54Speaker 4: the tournament, which is what I really want for the
- 27:56Speaker 4: Big Ten Tournament.
- 28:02Speaker 3: So currently, just to follow that up, Michigan will be
- 28:05Speaker 3: getting a first round by at fifteen to one of
- 28:07Speaker 3: the conference. Currently there are three teams tied right now
- 28:13Speaker 3: at eleven and four US perdue Michigan State in contention
- 28:16Speaker 3: for That's what's helped is these other teams are also
- 28:21Speaker 3: losing games too. And like we said, the Big Ten conferences, Joe,
- 28:26Speaker 3: pretty tough top to bottom. You know, I'm not going
- 28:28Speaker 3: to go and say it's the toughest conference in the country, but.
- 28:32Speaker 2: It's up there.
- 28:33Speaker 3: Illinois is right ahead of US at twelve and three
- 28:35Speaker 3: in the conference. So right now, I mean, if you
- 28:36Speaker 3: if you look at it from a tiebreaker standpoint two, we're.
- 28:41Speaker 2: On that line. I agree, Austin.
- 28:42Speaker 3: I think that would be a good goal is to
- 28:43Speaker 3: have that triple by being one of the four teams
- 28:47Speaker 3: in the Big Ten tournament to where you basically already
- 28:49Speaker 3: locked into the quarterfinals of the tournament. And I mean,
- 28:55Speaker 3: you said, what what do you what do you think
- 28:56Speaker 3: out of these last five games, what do you think
- 28:58Speaker 3: that's going to take?
- 28:59Speaker 4: I think you have to win four?
- 29:02Speaker 6: Still't Yeah, yeah, I will be I'll be pretty disapported.
- 29:08Speaker 6: If we don't go four and one, because I fully
- 29:10Speaker 6: expected to lose one of those USC UCLA games, anything
- 29:14Speaker 6: less than four to one, I'll be real disappointed in.
- 29:16Speaker 5: Because because everything's there. And another thing is if we.
- 29:19Speaker 6: Don't come out and be Iowa by fifteen plus at home,
- 29:22Speaker 6: that's that's a big one. Come out and just kick
- 29:25Speaker 6: their ass next game, especially after after they stormed the court.
- 29:29Speaker 6: By the way, we can get in this terrible court storming.
- 29:32Speaker 6: They couldn't even feel the court. They horrible store corn
- 29:37Speaker 6: by the Iowa fans. We'll just say that, but come
- 29:39Speaker 6: on that game, kill Iowa. You can lose one of
- 29:43Speaker 6: the California games. Other than that, I'll be this point
- 29:46Speaker 6: in that way in the year.
- 29:50Speaker 3: Yeah, and I think we should, hopefully games step up
- 29:58Speaker 3: and win those. The interesting thing is, you know, we
- 30:03Speaker 3: talk about being disappointed or whatever, and I think to
- 30:08Speaker 3: me that leads into the NCAA tournament and your thoughts,
- 30:13Speaker 3: which we talked about, I believe in our last podcast
- 30:18Speaker 3: a few weeks ago on what's acceptable, like what what
- 30:22Speaker 3: what are what are we wanting as a Husker fan? Uh,
- 30:26Speaker 3: you know, not that our opinion matters ever, But it's
- 30:30Speaker 3: been a fun year and the Rascal basketball has never
- 30:35Speaker 3: been in this position that we're in now. And I
- 30:37Speaker 3: even said that last night, kind of weird to have
- 30:41Speaker 3: a team storm the court after beating us like this
- 30:45Speaker 3: dead doesn't that's never happened, which when we've done it
- 30:50Speaker 3: on teams too, you know, it's a little bit sign
- 30:52Speaker 3: up like, Okay, no, they're good. And obviously we're a
- 30:55Speaker 3: top ten team currently with the rankings this week, you know,
- 30:59Speaker 3: I think we'll be around there around that ten ten
- 31:04Speaker 3: mark if we finish a year four and one. So
- 31:09Speaker 3: NCA tournament wise goes. Obviously, the higher seed, the better
- 31:15Speaker 3: you're gonna get probably your tougher mid majors. The lower
- 31:21Speaker 3: you go, and the higher you are, the better matchup
- 31:26Speaker 3: you're hopefully gonna get. But you know, I think we're
- 31:30Speaker 3: all gonna say right that this team better be winning
- 31:33Speaker 3: into a tournament game.
- 31:36Speaker 2: I think anything that better happened.
- 31:37Speaker 4: Yeah, if you lose the tournament game, I'm I mean,
- 31:44Speaker 4: obviously you're not going to fire Fred after that this
- 31:47Speaker 4: kind of season, but I feel like you just you
- 31:51Speaker 4: killed any momentum. I mean, it's it's just, what's the
- 31:55Speaker 4: point we have a great regular season, if we just
- 31:58Speaker 4: ship the bed and when we play big major team
- 32:01Speaker 4: in round was a three seed.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Right, I mean, given this is our probably best team
- 32:06Speaker 3: ever obviously in our lifetime of watching Nebraska basketball, but
- 32:12Speaker 3: you know, even comparing him to some of those other
- 32:13Speaker 3: good Nebraska teams in the nineties, you know, I think
- 32:16Speaker 3: the highest seed we got there was a sixth seed
- 32:19Speaker 3: and we played the University of Pennsylvania and lost that game.
- 32:23Speaker 3: So you know, from from looking at it on, from
- 32:25Speaker 3: that standpoint, I think that's what we should get.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Now after that, I mean, what are your guys' thoughts.
- 32:33Speaker 3: I think I don't want to get ahead of ourselves,
- 32:35Speaker 3: given we're on a little bit of a struggle bus here, but.
- 32:41Speaker 4: Like your thoughts, I realistically think that we're in sweek
- 32:45Speaker 4: sixteen team. Like I said, you look at the games
- 32:48Speaker 4: that we've lost. It's against the preseason number one team,
- 32:52Speaker 4: the currently ranked number one team, and then Illinois, who
- 32:57Speaker 4: people think could sneaky be like you know, a real
- 33:02Speaker 4: title contender, and then Iowa unfortunately on the road like
- 33:08Speaker 4: we and again we were right there perdue mister free
- 33:12Speaker 4: throw to take the lead with three seconds left in
- 33:14Speaker 4: the game. We led thirty nine minutes against Michigan, Like,
- 33:19Speaker 4: we're right there. So I really do think we're a
- 33:21Speaker 4: sweet sixteen team.
- 33:23Speaker 5: Like not.
- 33:24Speaker 4: Trying to blow smoke up our. I know the last
- 33:26Speaker 4: couple of games doesn't feel that way, but they're they're
- 33:28Speaker 4: we're playing really good teams, and I think these are
- 33:30Speaker 4: the teams you see in this Sweek sixteen, not before.
- 33:35Speaker 5: Yeah, we haven't got blown out all this year. That
- 33:37Speaker 5: that's good. Party is.
- 33:38Speaker 6: I went to bed last night just mad about basically
- 33:42Speaker 6: like we suck. It's We're gonna lose the NCAA tournament,
- 33:46Speaker 6: I'm gonna have to run a half marathon, all this,
- 33:49Speaker 6: all this stuff. But but then I sat there for
- 33:52Speaker 6: a little bad I thought, you know what, they're twenty
- 33:54Speaker 6: two and four. They not got blown out at all.
- 33:56Speaker 6: They really haven't. They have not had a bad loss
- 33:58Speaker 6: yet this year. We've been right there in all these games.
- 34:03Speaker 6: If we just hit our threes and somehow this easier
- 34:07Speaker 6: said and done, somehow figure out how to rebound, we're
- 34:10Speaker 6: right there. And you don't what, it's still a damn
- 34:12Speaker 6: good team.
- 34:12Speaker 4: I'm going to guess that were favored the next five games.
- 34:15Speaker 4: I don't. I don't know that for a fact, but
- 34:17Speaker 4: I'd be surprised if we weren't favored for.
- 34:18Speaker 2: The next five.
- 34:19Speaker 6: Maybe at U c l A. I could see, but man,
- 34:23Speaker 6: they got born out last.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Night Michigan State. I also saw that Mitt Cronin I
- 34:30Speaker 3: just ejected his own player. He did.
- 34:34Speaker 4: I just didn't see that.
- 34:35Speaker 5: Yeah he did.
- 34:37Speaker 2: Uh yeah, I think so.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I think if you look at you know, the second round,
- 34:46Speaker 3: given where we're at, you're gonna play a pretty solid team.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I don't think we're probably gonna get to that two
- 34:51Speaker 3: seed line. I mean maybe depending on how the Big
- 34:54Speaker 3: Ten tournament goes, but it's probably mos likely. So you
- 34:58Speaker 3: know you're you're gonna be playing four or five six
- 35:02Speaker 3: seed team in that second round if you can win
- 35:04Speaker 3: that first one, and.
- 35:06Speaker 2: They're gonna be a good opponent.
- 35:10Speaker 3: You know, you're looking at teams like Kentucky, You're looking
- 35:12Speaker 3: at teams like BYU I've seen in that line.
- 35:15Speaker 2: You know they're.
- 35:18Speaker 3: It's gonna be a tough game. And so you know
- 35:20Speaker 3: you lose that game.
- 35:22Speaker 6: We've already beat up b YU, by the way, It's
- 35:25Speaker 6: true we did.
- 35:27Speaker 5: So you lose.
- 35:28Speaker 3: You know, you lose that game. I think you can
- 35:30Speaker 3: still maybe you know, you can say it's been a
- 35:32Speaker 3: good year. But Austin, I'm a little more where you're
- 35:35Speaker 3: at it. I think given the season that we've had,
- 35:38Speaker 3: some of the wins that we've shown and things that
- 35:40Speaker 3: we've done, it would be a little disappointed not to
- 35:42Speaker 3: be a Sweet sixteen team this year.
- 35:44Speaker 2: And I think that's rightfully.
- 35:47Speaker 3: So it's a weird thing to say out loud, given
- 35:49Speaker 3: how poor we've been, But I don't think we should
- 35:53Speaker 3: just be satisfied to say that tournament win. Great, check
- 35:56Speaker 3: the box. Now everything else is icing on the cake.
- 36:00Speaker 3: I think we have the team, and we've shown to
- 36:02Speaker 3: have the team that we can go a little further
- 36:05Speaker 3: this year in the tournament. And I saw something the
- 36:08Speaker 3: other day some CBS reporter had us in the fricking
- 36:10Speaker 3: National Championship against Illinois like that was his prediction.
- 36:15Speaker 1: IM.
- 36:16Speaker 3: But I do think there's things with this team that
- 36:19Speaker 3: when things are clicking, we're pretty dang good, and we
- 36:24Speaker 3: should be in that conversation.
- 36:27Speaker 2: Right now. Things are not clicking like.
- 36:28Speaker 3: They were earlier in the year when we had some
- 36:31Speaker 3: of those really good wins. Now not to say they
- 36:33Speaker 3: were that far off from getting that back, you know,
- 36:36Speaker 3: ending the year, these last five games. It's a good
- 36:39Speaker 3: they're they're good games to get our rhythm back as
- 36:44Speaker 3: we head into postseason play and you're just you're gonna
- 36:48Speaker 3: play some good teams.
- 36:49Speaker 4: So I guess I'd rather have this happen now than
- 36:52Speaker 4: in the tournament where people are like, oh, we know
- 36:55Speaker 4: how to guard you know Price.
- 36:58Speaker 3: It really has a nice schedule role, Like if you
- 37:01Speaker 3: think about it, starting from the beginning of the year,
- 37:03Speaker 3: you don't know some of those non conference games, right,
- 37:05Speaker 3: Oklahoma turns out not to be very good.
- 37:08Speaker 4: Can't turns out Yeah, not great. It's one thing they
- 37:14Speaker 4: should have fired him for his comments.
- 37:17Speaker 3: I thought, no, that was ridiculous. Yeah, uh, Creighton, you know,
- 37:24Speaker 3: not having one of their better years.
- 37:26Speaker 2: But then you look at the on the flip side,
- 37:28Speaker 2: we blow out Wisconsin early in the year.
- 37:30Speaker 4: Who who looks right now?
- 37:33Speaker 2: Yep, they cracked on the top twenty five.
- 37:34Speaker 3: You beat Illinois on the road, which still seems to
- 37:36Speaker 3: be one of our best wins of the year. You
- 37:38Speaker 3: beat Michigan State at home. Uh, you know, you go
- 37:41Speaker 3: on the road at Ohio State and Dana and win those.
- 37:43Speaker 3: So we have some really, really damn good wins up
- 37:46Speaker 3: there at the front of the season, and then we
- 37:49Speaker 3: knew things were going to get tough, and they did,
- 37:52Speaker 3: and we have not one all of them.
- 37:53Speaker 2: We didn't expect to go undefeated.
- 37:56Speaker 3: But now things kind of lighten up here at the end,
- 38:00Speaker 3: just from our opponent standpoint. Not none of them are
- 38:02Speaker 3: going to be cakewalks, but they're back to winnable games.
- 38:06Speaker 3: Hopefully find a rhythm and stride again because we headed
- 38:09Speaker 3: in the Big Ten Tournament in the middle of March.
- 38:12Speaker 6: Yeah, that's that's the main thing is you can figure
- 38:14Speaker 6: out what the problems are in these next five games
- 38:18Speaker 6: and coming coming to the Big Ten tournament with some momentum.
- 38:20Speaker 6: If it started right now, I'd be shipping my pants,
- 38:22Speaker 6: like we this be horrible time to start tournament.
- 38:26Speaker 5: But good parties.
- 38:26Speaker 6: We still got five more games figured out. Yeah, and
- 38:31Speaker 6: then and then maybe may win a game or two
- 38:33Speaker 6: there and going tournament with some momentum. It's here's here's
- 38:37Speaker 6: what you gotta think is too. We're talking about Nebraska
- 38:39Speaker 6: being on three or four seed line coming the year.
- 38:41Speaker 6: There are some people that didn't have to Braskal winning
- 38:43Speaker 6: three or four Big Ten games like like we it's
- 38:49Speaker 6: it's not in the world right now it's teams. Teams
- 38:52Speaker 6: go through this a lot in bass money, and I
- 38:54Speaker 6: think it's a great time to actually hit the slump.
- 38:56Speaker 4: If we had lost four games throughout the season and
- 39:00Speaker 4: records fight two and four, I feel freaking great. But
- 39:04Speaker 4: it just so happens that we've lost four in our last.
- 39:06Speaker 6: Six, which which I told you guys coming the year,
- 39:09Speaker 6: we will be twenty two and four going into the
- 39:11Speaker 6: Penn State game.
- 39:12Speaker 4: Is that what you said? I need to go back
- 39:14Speaker 4: and listen to the tape.
- 39:17Speaker 6: No, no, no, I was thinking. I was thinking eight
- 39:21Speaker 6: nine seed, not a three four seed.
- 39:23Speaker 4: But I mean we were talking just going five hundred
- 39:26Speaker 4: and big ten play. I remember if you said we
- 39:28Speaker 4: could win, was it nine of our ten non con
- 39:31Speaker 4: games or a the ago five hundred? That's what we
- 39:34Speaker 4: were looking for.
- 39:35Speaker 5: Yep.
- 39:35Speaker 4: So can't let the Iowa the bad taste of just
- 39:40Speaker 4: a gross Iowa ostrou and in the basketball high you know.
- 39:47Speaker 6: But god damn as I would just own Nebraska right
- 39:49Speaker 6: now and every in all the major sports for now.
- 39:55Speaker 5: That's fun sucks.
- 39:57Speaker 2: Until Sunday, Fun Day on Marchie.
- 40:00Speaker 5: There you go, Yep, that'll be. That'd be. Only you
- 40:05Speaker 5: have to go to.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Is that every good bit of her basketball talk. I
- 40:09Speaker 4: was wanting to get you guys. Did you guys see
- 40:12Speaker 4: what Bill Moose's memoir the quotes and stuff about who
- 40:16Speaker 4: he wanted for his head coach and moving to the
- 40:18Speaker 4: Big twelve?
- 40:19Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 40:20Speaker 2: So Bill Moose wrote his.
- 40:23Speaker 3: Whatever you call it, autobiography on himself and that's been published,
- 40:29Speaker 3: and so there's a lot of just stuff out there
- 40:30Speaker 3: on his life and career and this was it's now
- 40:33Speaker 3: a little bit of old news, but you know, conversation
- 40:36Speaker 3: around what he was doing as the athletic director.
- 40:41Speaker 2: I mean, I'm not surprised that a lot of the stuff.
- 40:44Speaker 3: I think it's some of the rumors and speculations of
- 40:49Speaker 3: what was going on behind the scenes at Nebraska, but
- 40:54Speaker 3: also just in general, I think at a very prestigious university,
- 40:58Speaker 3: on how those conversations and things that happened, and.
- 41:03Speaker 2: I mean a few different things there. I think my.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Most entertaining piece of it was all the Frost stuff, which, like,
- 41:11Speaker 3: again it's not surprising, like his wife saying he's not ready,
- 41:17Speaker 3: he's too immature, because you know of their first meeting
- 41:19Speaker 3: and Matt Davison being in the room, which we've kind
- 41:22Speaker 3: of said when.
- 41:23Speaker 2: He was around Matt.
- 41:24Speaker 3: Matt Davison was kind of spearheading driving a lot of
- 41:28Speaker 3: the Frost decisions and kind of doing, you know, being
- 41:31Speaker 3: the guy that makes all the decisions for him, and
- 41:35Speaker 3: that was a problem. And then obviously Frost and his
- 41:38Speaker 3: ego and his personality from the get go. So I
- 41:42Speaker 3: mean that that was the most entertaining part to me.
- 41:45Speaker 3: It was reading those comments. But yeah, there's obviously a
- 41:47Speaker 3: lot of other stuff there.
- 41:51Speaker 4: That they made him check into an alcohol rehab facility
- 41:54Speaker 4: the like, for them to tell they didn't have an alcohol problem. Yeah,
- 42:00Speaker 4: the current governor Pillen said, no, we don't want Chip Kelly.
- 42:03Speaker 4: We're gonna go scut front, which okay, we've said the
- 42:06Speaker 4: whole time. Scott Frost was one hundred something right higher
- 42:08Speaker 4: as far as not the right time, as far as
- 42:12Speaker 4: his national presence and his head coaching you know, position
- 42:17Speaker 4: at the time. But it's just funny that, you know,
- 42:21Speaker 4: he really wanted Chip Kelly.
- 42:24Speaker 3: Man.
- 42:24Speaker 4: We probably would have been happy with it too, but.
- 42:27Speaker 3: He was Dana. But nope, Dana's not coming here.
- 42:36Speaker 6: So Bill Moose is on an interview on the Ticket,
- 42:38Speaker 6: which I've been listening to that lot I'd love the ticket.
- 42:40Speaker 5: Shout you guys. It's a great, great radio station.
- 42:42Speaker 6: Anyway, Bill Moos on there, But the interview after his
- 42:44Speaker 6: book came out, he said, if Scott Frost got hired
- 42:47Speaker 6: when Matt Rule did, he thinks that'd be the perfect
- 42:49Speaker 6: time for him to get fired. He's just not ready
- 42:51Speaker 6: for to be the husband coach yet. And I I
- 42:53Speaker 6: kind of agree with that. I think it would have
- 42:54Speaker 6: worked out then. It was just it was just a
- 42:56Speaker 6: ship show going on here when he was here, and
- 42:59Speaker 6: it feels like he was getting pushed into it, making
- 43:02Speaker 6: all decisions and all this. But it's also funny how
- 43:05Speaker 6: I have to get firing come out with all this, right.
- 43:09Speaker 3: I don't know who said that on the Thicket, which also,
- 43:11Speaker 3: you're right, is a great radio show. I don't think
- 43:14Speaker 3: it everywhere just got for us. I don't think it would.
- 43:17Speaker 5: He said that. Bill Moose said that.
- 43:19Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I don't. I don't I don't think. I
- 43:22Speaker 2: don't think it would have worked ever out here with us.
- 43:24Speaker 4: I don't think it was a product of image sure,
- 43:28Speaker 4: because if he had waited longer, he would have just
- 43:31Speaker 4: been bigger, you know, and then he's still coming home.
- 43:36Speaker 4: That was the problem.
- 43:37Speaker 5: He was just home.
- 43:39Speaker 2: I don't know this. Scott for us is a great
- 43:40Speaker 2: football coach. I'll just say it that way.
- 43:43Speaker 4: Doesn't right now?
- 43:45Speaker 3: Another year you see, Yeah, we'll see maybe maybe maybe
- 43:48Speaker 3: it'll be different.
- 43:49Speaker 2: But I just I don't think that he is so.
- 43:52Speaker 4: And he also jobs Hunter. Sometimes it's just you know,
- 43:56Speaker 4: sometimes it's just who's hiring you.
- 43:58Speaker 6: It doesn't feel like he learned anything either from his
- 44:00Speaker 6: maturity standpoint, just coming out last year saying like, oh
- 44:03Speaker 6: I picked the wrong job or the wrong job family.
- 44:05Speaker 6: I can't remember what he said, but yeah, it's.
- 44:08Speaker 2: Some people don't change.
- 44:09Speaker 3: I mean, that's that's that's the old adage of your personality,
- 44:13Speaker 3: like sometimes that's just who you are.
- 44:16Speaker 2: In fact, you should know that you just don't.
- 44:20Speaker 5: Change what you're saying there, Hunter, I didn't say anything.
- 44:32Speaker 4: All right, I've got a women's basketball take. I just
- 44:35Speaker 4: need to say it because no one really cares about
- 44:37Speaker 4: women's basketball, and we are okay, Hunter Deak, you know
- 44:44Speaker 4: we'll exclude you from this. Oh, but I would say
- 44:48Speaker 4: Hunter and I were were coach Williams fans. I'm just
- 44:54Speaker 4: gonna say, see, it's a little warm. You have one
- 44:57Speaker 4: tournament win in ten years, you're windless and fed. You
- 45:00Speaker 4: are your Big Ten record over the last you know,
- 45:04Speaker 4: we've barely gone five hundred in the Big Ten in
- 45:09Speaker 4: the ten or ten year period. We've I know Natalie
- 45:16Speaker 4: pont Is hurt, which this dynamic backcourt, but I just
- 45:20Speaker 4: I just want to I just want to put it
- 45:21Speaker 4: out there because it's just I've been I've watched a
- 45:23Speaker 4: couple of games and I've just been frustrated with how
- 45:28Speaker 4: we're finishing game and we I just I don't know
- 45:31Speaker 4: what's wrong. I know we lost a Lexus Markowski and
- 45:35Speaker 4: our post presence isn't what it was. Britt Prince is
- 45:38Speaker 4: really good, but it's I'm just I just want to
- 45:42Speaker 4: put that out there. We're gonna make the tournament again
- 45:44Speaker 4: this year, probably, I think, I don't know, it's been
- 45:47Speaker 4: a real rough stretch, but might be time ten years
- 45:54Speaker 4: one tournament win.
- 45:56Speaker 2: Has it been ten years already?
- 45:59Speaker 4: It's been ten years.
- 46:02Speaker 3: I you know, I've watched our women play, not as
- 46:06Speaker 3: closely as the men, but I've watched them a lot.
- 46:07Speaker 2: I've seen.
- 46:15Speaker 3: The lack of what's the word not, I mean, it's
- 46:17Speaker 3: it's it's a little stale right now.
- 46:20Speaker 2: Where things are at h.
- 46:22Speaker 3: And yes, I'm with you. Like to me, the evident
- 46:27Speaker 3: piece that from last year, you know, is a missing
- 46:30Speaker 3: post presence. Now, not saying every team has to have
- 46:34Speaker 3: a post presence, but I think in like we've seen
- 46:38Speaker 3: that with our men's we really don't either.
- 46:41Speaker 2: Mass is a version of it.
- 46:43Speaker 3: But I think in women's basketball, especially having that that
- 46:49Speaker 3: size down load on both ends offensively and defensively really
- 46:54Speaker 3: gives an added bonus.
- 46:57Speaker 2: In that league.
- 46:58Speaker 3: So that has been an issue. And yeah, Brid's really
- 47:02Speaker 3: good and I don't think we use her enough. Uh It,
- 47:08Speaker 3: it just seems like things are a little bit still
- 47:10Speaker 3: right now. I didn't realize. I mean, like I said,
- 47:12Speaker 3: I followed along, I have not watched every game. I
- 47:15Speaker 3: didn't realize the skid that we're kind of on. I mean,
- 47:17Speaker 3: you're talking about the men's skid. The women's skid is
- 47:20Speaker 3: is a big, big from from what we started the
- 47:24Speaker 3: year being, you know, winning thirteen fourteen games in a
- 47:28Speaker 3: row to where we're at now.
- 47:31Speaker 5: It is.
- 47:32Speaker 3: It is a little bit concerning, and I you know,
- 47:34Speaker 3: I have an interesting thought there about coach Williams, but
- 47:38Speaker 3: I do agree with you that you know, if you
- 47:40Speaker 3: can't pull out a little bit of a spark here somewhere.
- 47:47Speaker 3: I'm not saying this year, but in the next couple
- 47:50Speaker 3: of years.
- 47:51Speaker 4: We've won, We've won to you know, we won twenty one,
- 47:53Speaker 4: we want twenty three. And next year we are supposed
- 47:56Speaker 4: to have three top one hundred recruits coming, so.
- 48:00Speaker 2: You get that.
- 48:01Speaker 3: You know, this year, if you can pull out a
- 48:02Speaker 3: spark and make it to this Sweek sixteen, right, you know,
- 48:04Speaker 3: with a team like this, or you know, win your
- 48:08Speaker 3: first round game and make some noise and compete in
- 48:10Speaker 3: that second round as a nine seed against a one
- 48:13Speaker 3: or two seed, Like, yeah, you're probably feeling okay, but
- 48:21Speaker 3: you're right, it's a little bit of a all right, Like,
- 48:23Speaker 3: let's see where we're at, a little bit of a
- 48:24Speaker 3: gut check. I think again, there's still some good things,
- 48:28Speaker 3: and injuries have been a thing.
- 48:31Speaker 2: I don't know close enough to know.
- 48:33Speaker 3: You know, why Pots is still out. I think that
- 48:40Speaker 3: that's kind of crazy. You feel like she should be back,
- 48:44Speaker 3: but she's not.
- 48:46Speaker 4: I think she's done for the year.
- 48:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I feel like she just again just overall,
- 48:52Speaker 3: not just the season, but just in general, given her injury.
- 48:56Speaker 4: Yeah, this is basically their second season ending injured. Now
- 49:03Speaker 4: you you know, people are like, oh, we get pots
- 49:05Speaker 4: back next year. You know, who knows what player you're
- 49:08Speaker 4: getting back.
- 49:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 49:09Speaker 4: I just wanted to. I watched which game did I watch?
- 49:13Speaker 4: Was it Maryland? And I was just so frustrated, and
- 49:21Speaker 4: it's just and so then I was just thinking. I
- 49:23Speaker 4: was like, gosh, it just feels like we're right there,
- 49:25Speaker 4: and then we aren't. And so then I went back
- 49:28Speaker 4: started looking as just again. Yet we've had two twenty
- 49:30Speaker 4: one seasons. We were a ten seed last year, six
- 49:34Speaker 4: seed two years ago. And the Big Ten is like
- 49:40Speaker 4: it's a hard particularly women's basketball conference, but ten years,
- 49:48Speaker 4: you got it. You have to have more than one.
- 49:51Speaker 4: You know. We were talking about we're gonna fire Fred
- 49:52Speaker 4: if he doesn't win one this year, because that'd be
- 49:55Speaker 4: none in seven. We have one in ten.
- 49:57Speaker 2: So yeah, all.
- 50:02Speaker 5: Right, I'm not eve gonna act like I watched them
- 50:03Speaker 5: in basketball. I don't. So all all I know is
- 50:07Speaker 5: that they have been on a major free for all.
- 50:09Speaker 5: That's about it.
- 50:10Speaker 6: I have not watched I don't think a single second
- 50:12Speaker 6: of the Husby man's basketball team.
- 50:13Speaker 5: So there you go.
- 50:15Speaker 2: I will say that you at least are admitting you're
- 50:17Speaker 2: not a fan of a team when you're not, like,
- 50:19Speaker 2: you should do that to more of your teams because
- 50:21Speaker 2: it's not just as the Nebraska women's basketball.
- 50:24Speaker 6: Oh yeah, Hunter, you know it's coming back, Jason Tatum,
- 50:26Speaker 6: he'll be back, should be back the next two weeks.
- 50:28Speaker 6: So so you know what, get your get two running
- 50:32Speaker 6: shoes ready. You're gonna need two pairs because they're going
- 50:35Speaker 6: the East.
- 50:39Speaker 4: I will say in defense, you know we are on
- 50:42Speaker 4: a skid, but you know, in that skid, we we've
- 50:45Speaker 4: only lost to We've only lost two unranked opponents. But
- 50:53Speaker 4: at some point you just gotta yeah.
- 50:55Speaker 6: They've been they've all been twenty point plus losses, right, and.
- 51:00Speaker 4: I mean they haven't been close. I don't know if
- 51:02Speaker 4: I say twenty plus, but usually fifteen.
- 51:06Speaker 5: Yeah, and I always the latest lost game, which again
- 51:09Speaker 5: on us, but.
- 51:10Speaker 4: Yeah, I would kill this. Oh I guess I was thirteen.
- 51:14Speaker 4: Oh no, that's twenty three, that's thirty.
- 51:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 51:17Speaker 4: So I I yes, we're playing ranked teams, but you
- 51:24Speaker 4: got it. You have again not this year. I just
- 51:27Speaker 4: want to put it out there. Next year's kind of
- 51:33Speaker 4: might be a do or die season for Amy Williams
- 51:37Speaker 4: we'll see.
- 51:38Speaker 2: A couple other floating topics here.
- 51:41Speaker 3: I wanted to get your guys' quick thoughts on one
- 51:45Speaker 3: NBA All Star game.
- 51:48Speaker 4: It was good, quick thought, it was good. Wemby's great.
- 51:52Speaker 4: I love Wemby.
- 51:56Speaker 6: If you just see just a little bit of effort,
- 51:57Speaker 6: it's better than when it's been in the past. Like,
- 51:59Speaker 6: I like what they did this year. I had no
- 52:01Speaker 6: cuge going into what the what the hell the star stripes.
- 52:05Speaker 6: I thought it was just gonna be a US versus
- 52:07Speaker 6: the world the full game, but I mean three or
- 52:10Speaker 6: four different games, and I liked.
- 52:12Speaker 5: I like to change they did, made it competitive for
- 52:16Speaker 5: what it's worth.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I did not know what was going on, which I
- 52:20Speaker 3: could be due to other things that are going on
- 52:22Speaker 3: in my life.
- 52:22Speaker 4: But I suck that it was stars verse stripes in
- 52:25Speaker 4: the championship. But I really just wanted World fore USA.
- 52:30Speaker 4: I don't care, And.
- 52:33Speaker 3: I think I made a competitive and then second thought,
- 52:36Speaker 3: got to give Austin some time to shine on the
- 52:38Speaker 3: US crowing team.
- 52:39Speaker 4: Yeah, let's go mixed doubles silver medalists. The men and
- 52:45Speaker 4: women are both curly, well, women more particular than the men. Yeah,
- 52:52Speaker 4: I don't, I.
- 52:52Speaker 3: Don't was that expected Keith Fillison, was that expected to
- 52:55Speaker 3: be or we're at I think.
- 52:59Speaker 4: For the mixed double for silver? Definitely not. I think
- 53:01Speaker 4: we had the seventh or eighth best odds to medal
- 53:05Speaker 4: to get the gold. So it was they curled out
- 53:08Speaker 4: their ass. I mean it was like their hitting percentage
- 53:13Speaker 4: was crazy for like just how it got them, and
- 53:16Speaker 4: then it kind of showed up in the gold medal match.
- 53:18Speaker 4: They kind of started to normalize a little bit, but
- 53:20Speaker 4: they played incredibly well. The men's team's probably not gonna medal.
- 53:25Speaker 4: They weren't really expected to medal, uh and the women's
- 53:30Speaker 4: team couldn't medal. We've had We've beat Canada for the
- 53:32Speaker 4: first time. So exciting stuff in the curling world.
- 53:37Speaker 6: So do you know, do you like most of these
- 53:39Speaker 6: people that are out there curling like you've heard of
- 53:40Speaker 6: them before?
- 53:42Speaker 4: Yeah? Yeah, Jared Allen, you're Minnesota Vikings defensive lineman. He's

- 54:15Speaker 5: So it checks out.
- 54:20Speaker 6: If you ever bring Omaha, let me know imever in Omaha. No,
- 54:25Speaker 6: if you ever bring Jared Allen in Omaha.
- 54:26Speaker 4: Ever bring Jared Allen like I'm always uh, I guess uh.
- 54:37Speaker 4: NBA title favorites quick off hand halfway halfway through the
- 54:41Speaker 4: season Thunder Thunder fourteen.
- 54:48Speaker 5: If Jay Sam comes back or doesn't come back, that's
- 54:51Speaker 5: up to you.
- 54:51Speaker 2: You said he's coming back, so he said he's coming back.
- 54:54Speaker 4: He's coming back to.
- 54:55Speaker 5: Think Celtics are gonna win it all.
- 54:57Speaker 4: That's so foolish.
- 55:00Speaker 2: You want to make a bet on that right now?
- 55:01Speaker 5: No, No, he's not back yet. The thirty nine.
- 55:07Speaker 3: Fourteen you broke the news, breaking the news on this
- 55:11Speaker 3: podcast that he's coming back.
- 55:13Speaker 6: You said, give me back, Okay, you know, honest, gonna
- 55:17Speaker 6: say it. He'll be back before March fifteenth. That's that's
- 55:20Speaker 6: kind of what their deadline is. He's gonna come back
- 55:22Speaker 6: when they play Goldens not Golden States. There's some game
- 55:26Speaker 6: they have set that he's gonna come back forth.
- 55:28Speaker 4: The Philadelphia seventy six ers. I believe that's what I heard.
- 55:32Speaker 4: It was. They moved the Sixers time two hours back
- 55:35Speaker 4: to prime time. It's March fourth or something.
- 55:38Speaker 6: Which which how about him, guys come back from a
- 55:40Speaker 6: killers injury.
- 55:41Speaker 5: This is just incredible.
- 55:43Speaker 4: You'll see how he looks if he comes back. I'm
- 55:45Speaker 4: not gonna I'm not gonna say he's incredible yet.
- 55:49Speaker 2: I will say Wemby's been fun to watch the ball.
- 55:53Speaker 2: He's just it's just a freak.
- 55:55Speaker 3: Like you want to talk about Giannis and the stuff
- 55:58Speaker 3: that he does, take Wemby and like.
- 56:01Speaker 2: It's very similar to this the hell of Play. But
- 56:03Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 56:03Speaker 3: I I like watching Wimby a lot better, and I
- 56:05Speaker 3: liked watching Giannis kind of in his early years.
- 56:08Speaker 2: It's fun, it's fun to watch.
- 56:10Speaker 4: I know he's not gonna win the m v P
- 56:12Speaker 4: because you know, I had my five old preseason takes,
- 56:16Speaker 4: which was the Hornets we're gonna make the playoffs and
- 56:18Speaker 4: win around which that did sound crazy. Wemby was gonna
- 56:23Speaker 4: win MVP defensive VP and the Spurs another team in
- 56:26Speaker 4: the one team in the West, and Lebron is gonna
- 56:28Speaker 4: average less than twenty five points. It's it's pretty freaking close.
- 56:33Speaker 4: We're so close. Yeah, I think anyone out of the
- 56:38Speaker 4: East is beating the West dec That's why.
- 56:42Speaker 5: No.
- 56:43Speaker 6: I think I think Wimby being this young player, he's
- 56:45Speaker 6: the one that brought the kind of started to everyone
- 56:48Speaker 6: trying in the All Star Game with his he started
- 56:49Speaker 6: blocking shots stuff. I think he's the one that made
- 56:51Speaker 6: that that move to everyone.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Hey, this is Funny's blocking shots. It's not like he's
- 56:55Speaker 3: because he's trying to. He's just there.
- 56:57Speaker 4: Yeah, he's just he's like, yeah, you're gonna have to
- 57:00Speaker 4: at a score. I'm not gonna let you just.
- 57:01Speaker 5: Lay it up. Yeah he doesn't have to.
- 57:04Speaker 6: It's kind of like Ben skirts block the same Hobard,
- 57:06Speaker 6: like you don't even to try to block him.
- 57:07Speaker 4: But but yeah, fun stuff.
- 57:14Speaker 6: All right, let's get away on Saturday.
