Latest / Best of the NFL Podcast Network / The Season with Peter Schrager: Peter's Official Super Bowl Pick!
Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
- 0:09Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, everybody, Welcome to
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Season with Peter Scheger. As we record this, it's
- 0:28Speaker 1: a beautiful Thursday afternoon in sunny Los Angeles. When you
- 0:32Speaker 1: listen to this, we might already be through the opening
- 0:35Speaker 1: game Ravens versus Chiefs. You might listen to this over
- 0:38Speaker 1: the weekend and getting ready for Week one of NFL football.
- 0:41Speaker 1: But I did want to put out a special episode
- 0:44Speaker 1: for my Super Bowl pick.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I'm joined here by the great Aaron wan Kaufman. Aaron,
- 0:49Speaker 2: I'm in Los Angeles, you are in New York. Today
- 0:54Speaker 2: is Super Bowl Pick Day and kickoff for the first
- 0:56Speaker 2: game of the season is about seven hours away. As
- 0:58Speaker 2: we record this, I'm gonna quickly get into what I
- 1:02Speaker 2: did yesterday, which was one of the craziest worked I've had,
- 1:07Speaker 2: and I've been working for a long time in this industry.
- 1:09Speaker 2: We did four hours Good Morning Football in the morning,
- 1:11Speaker 2: two hours on NFL Network and then two hours for
- 1:14Speaker 2: the syndicated markets. If you haven't followed that Good Morning Football,
- 1:18Speaker 2: they got all tossed upside down. They moved the show
- 1:21Speaker 2: to La. I'm here for the week. I won't be
- 1:23Speaker 2: here every week. I'll be in New York most weeks.
- 1:26Speaker 2: But the first two hours are what you see on
- 1:27Speaker 2: NFL Network. The second two hours, which you don't see
- 1:30Speaker 2: on NFL Network, airs on Roku, but also in one
- 1:35Speaker 2: hundred and nineteen different syndicated markets. Meaning it's like Judge, Judy,
- 1:41Speaker 2: The Sherry Shepherd Show, Family Feud, Good Morning Football, and
- 1:45Speaker 2: then like Divorce Court, like that's how it goes. We're
- 1:47Speaker 2: in that thing. So I grew up in an era
- 1:50Speaker 2: where I loved Richard Bay and Jenny Jones and Ricky
- 1:53Speaker 2: Lake and Sally Jesse, Raphael and Donahue. Now I'm suddenly
- 1:59Speaker 2: a syndicated personality myself. We'll see how it goes. I
- 2:03Speaker 2: have no idea. They're saying that the syndicated markets are thrilled.
- 2:06Speaker 2: But in addition to the four hours of television, NFL
- 2:10Speaker 2: Network has had us staying later into our number five
- 2:14Speaker 2: of our programming to do these local hits in like
- 2:18Speaker 2: local markets. So I went on Fox thirteen in Seattle
- 2:22Speaker 2: and I talked to you know, John, their local sports anchor,
- 2:26Speaker 2: and then Bianca Peters in New York City, who does
- 2:29Speaker 2: Good Day New York after Menafee and Rosanna Scato. She's
- 2:32Speaker 2: on in the middays. It did like fifteen minutes with her,
- 2:35Speaker 2: and at the end of it, I'm like, so talk
- 2:36Speaker 2: about congestion pricing, Like, where's the latest there? We had
- 2:39Speaker 2: a standstill hack.
- 2:42Speaker 1: What is hack have.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Us doing here? I need to know the latest? I'm
- 2:45Speaker 2: not in New York. She's like, what are you serious.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I'm like, yes, Like, let's talk jets. I'm like, no,
- 2:50Speaker 2: let's talk Mayor Adams. So I see out at zero
- 2:53Speaker 2: bomb every night. Yeah, So we did all these stuff,
- 2:56Speaker 2: so like my brain is at a at a simmering point.
- 3:00Speaker 2: And then I agreed to something last week and I
- 3:03Speaker 2: was going to do it, but I don't know any
- 3:05Speaker 2: of the geography of it. So I've grown quite friendly
- 3:09Speaker 2: and I really like this guy with Nick Vial. Do
- 3:12Speaker 2: you know who Nick vil is?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Aaron?
- 3:15Speaker 1: I do not.
- 3:16Speaker 4: Only I saw him that you posted that you were
- 3:19Speaker 4: just on a show, so I saw that. That's the
- 3:21Speaker 4: only thing I know about him.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Nick Fayel was on The Bachelorette, then he was on
- 3:27Speaker 2: the Bachelor. He's on Bachelor in Paradise, and then he
- 3:31Speaker 2: did another thing on The Bachelor. I think it was
- 3:32Speaker 2: like a judge of Bachelor in Paradise. There's some other
- 3:35Speaker 2: version of the Bachelor, so he's been on four different
- 3:37Speaker 2: versions of the Bachelor. He also has his own podcast
- 3:42Speaker 2: called the Vile Files with Vile Files Vile Files, I
- 3:45Speaker 2: don't know how to pronounce it. I love the guy,
- 3:47Speaker 2: but it's with him and his wife Natalie, and it
- 3:51Speaker 2: has become and I'm not kidding, it has become the
- 3:54Speaker 2: go to podcast for reality TV. They get like Jacks
- 4:01Speaker 2: from vander Pump Rules, like the day after he does
- 4:04Speaker 2: something like vile they get Sanderval like in the Chair.
- 4:08Speaker 2: It's become like die He's a Diane Sawyer or like
- 4:11Speaker 2: the Barbara Walters of reality TV. And he and his
- 4:14Speaker 2: wife and there and their crew there they like grill
- 4:16Speaker 2: these people. So like you know, before she was doing
- 4:19Speaker 2: the rounds, like the Hawktua girl was on their show,
- 4:21Speaker 2: like the next minute after that video went viral, So
- 4:24Speaker 2: like in that world, he has got this great niche
- 4:28Speaker 2: and he's also a reality superstar of his own. Now,
- 4:31Speaker 2: why the hell would the two of us have anything
- 4:33Speaker 2: in common? We had Nick on two years ago, back
- 4:37Speaker 2: when like Kay and Nate were on this show. We
- 4:39Speaker 2: had Nick on as a guest, and i rolled my
- 4:41Speaker 2: eyes a little bit because I'm like, guys, we're the
- 4:43Speaker 2: NFL network. Okay, I guess we're bringing in a new audience.
- 4:46Speaker 2: He's a heart thrub. Women love this guy. We're bringing
- 4:48Speaker 2: Nick from The Bachelor. Nick comes on and he's like,
- 4:51Speaker 2: I'm a Packers fan, and my eyes glaze over because
- 4:53Speaker 2: we have a million celebrities and they're like, oh, I
- 4:55Speaker 2: love the Jets, and it's like, well, who's your favorite player?
- 4:57Speaker 2: He's like, I like the quarterback and like doesn't know
- 4:59Speaker 2: the name, you know, like that's that's awesome. And there
- 5:03Speaker 2: are those rare ones you get, like your Eric stone
- 5:05Speaker 2: Street or your Paul Road or you're Joel McHale and
- 5:08Speaker 2: these guys and Josh Charles, who's like the Ravens fan
- 5:10Speaker 2: who like Dan Soder we had on our show, who's
- 5:13Speaker 2: a comedian. He loves the Niners like who actually study
- 5:16Speaker 2: the depth charts and carve their sundays around this and
- 5:20Speaker 2: are like deep into the Reddit pages and the message boards.
- 5:22Speaker 2: Like but I'd say ninety percent of the quote unquote
- 5:26Speaker 2: celebrities that say they love football like they like football,
- 5:29Speaker 2: they have a team and they'll definitely watch when it's on,
- 5:32Speaker 2: but like they're not hardcore. So we have Nick on
- 5:37Speaker 2: and Kay asks him like a generic question. Fine, he
- 5:39Speaker 2: answers it. He's cool and Nate maybe asked you something.
- 5:43Speaker 2: I come on and I'm like, all right, so you
- 5:46Speaker 2: love the Packers, Like, uh, what you would be looking
- 5:49Speaker 2: out for this season? This is two years ago when
- 5:50Speaker 2: Rogers was still on the team. Nick Viel, who is
- 5:54Speaker 2: a Wisconsin native, comes out and says, you know, you
- 5:58Speaker 2: guys are all focused on DeVante Adams and you guys
- 6:01Speaker 2: are all focused on Aaron Jones, but I gotta tell you,
- 6:05Speaker 2: I think Alan Lazard is vastly underrated. Now my ears
- 6:09Speaker 2: perked up. I'm like, okay, I haven't heard an Alan
- 6:10Speaker 2: Lazard take on the show. And he goes, Alan Lazard,
- 6:14Speaker 2: pound for pound is the best blocking wide receiver in
- 6:16Speaker 2: the NFL. He's like, if you watch the All twenty two,
- 6:19Speaker 2: anytime we run the ball right and we go on
- 6:21Speaker 2: the right side, Alan Lazard is used almost as a
- 6:24Speaker 2: tight end. He gets his hands on the body of
- 6:26Speaker 2: the defender and he's a blocking place. He's like, He's like,
- 6:29Speaker 2: it is if we have a six offensive Lineman out
- 6:31Speaker 2: there and he plays the size and the grin of
- 6:33Speaker 2: a tight end. And because he was an andre or
- 6:35Speaker 2: a six round pick, and because he's a practice squad guy,
- 6:38Speaker 2: he has this extra bite to him. And I'm like,
- 6:39Speaker 2: who the hell is this guy? Like I want to
- 6:43Speaker 2: be friends with this guy. I like this guy. So
- 6:45Speaker 2: that was like two three years ago. I direct message
- 6:48Speaker 2: and him like, dude, great job, you killed it. Like
- 6:50Speaker 2: there was a great response, and I'm like, I don't
- 6:52Speaker 2: know much about this guy, but I dig it. We
- 6:55Speaker 2: go to LA for the Super Bowl and my wife
- 6:58Speaker 2: and I very rare night out. It's Friday night of
- 7:01Speaker 2: Super Bowl week in La. So I remember the Rams
- 7:04Speaker 2: are playing the Bangles at so far. My wife Erica
- 7:08Speaker 2: is in town. Very rarely comes on the road, but
- 7:10Speaker 2: like we like to do the Super Bowls. So we
- 7:13Speaker 2: have one night out because Saturday night I was working
- 7:15Speaker 2: Sunday Saturday night, it was like we're in bed by six.
- 7:19Speaker 2: We get out and we go to we get invited.
- 7:22Speaker 2: First of all, I want to thank Tony Lapenna and
- 7:25Speaker 2: the guys who are work with the Nhwood Group. Again
- 7:28Speaker 2: just name dropping everywhere here. That's really deep count but
- 7:30Speaker 2: they own Delilah and nice guy in bird Streets and
- 7:34Speaker 2: they're like, and I got to know Tony, who is
- 7:37Speaker 2: one of the owners. Tony's like, we got you justin
- 7:41Speaker 2: Bieber Concert, small venue, you guys can go. Erica is thrilled.
- 7:45Speaker 2: We get there. The first person I see is Josh
- 7:49Speaker 2: Allen and his then girlfriend, and Josh Allen could not
- 7:52Speaker 2: be cool or he's like, let's take a photo and
- 7:53Speaker 2: we're like great. Next person it's Kittle and his wife Claire.
- 7:57Speaker 2: They're amazing. Then we see Robert Griffin and his wife
- 8:01Speaker 2: and RG three is cool as well. Little Dickey is there.
- 8:04Speaker 2: I'm a huge Little Dickey fan from FX. He's there
- 8:07Speaker 2: with Santino the Redheaded comic, like they're hanging. Tony Gonzalez
- 8:11Speaker 2: is there, Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sanchez are there,
- 8:15Speaker 2: like it is a scene. My wife is like, Peter,
- 8:19Speaker 2: there's a guy. There's a guy like staring at you
- 8:22Speaker 2: right now. I'm like who, And no one wants to
- 8:24Speaker 2: talk to me. There's every celebrity in NFL, but and
- 8:27Speaker 2: it's Nick Vail and we go off into a corner
- 8:30Speaker 2: like two love birds and me and Nick just cut
- 8:32Speaker 2: it up for like thirty minutes, because this is the
- 8:34Speaker 2: off season where like the Packers need to decide on Rogers.
- 8:37Speaker 2: And Nick's take was like, it's time to move on.
- 8:40Speaker 2: And I'm like, no, no, no, no, no, you don't
- 8:41Speaker 2: move on from Aaron Rodgers. You move on when he's ready. Like,
- 8:44Speaker 2: He's like, no, it is time to rip the band
- 8:46Speaker 2: aid off. It's time to move on. We've been grooming.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Jordan love like, if not now when like, let's get
- 8:50Speaker 2: rid of them, let's trade them, let's save the salary
- 8:52Speaker 2: cap money, let's invest in the future. Nick was like,
- 8:55Speaker 2: and I'm like again, two for two.
- 8:56Speaker 1: Great take, great take.
- 8:59Speaker 2: We go on, we see the Bieber concert. The next night,
- 9:02Speaker 2: I'm at dinner. It's Nick and his wife again, and
- 9:04Speaker 2: both of like my wife and his wife. It's his girlfriend.
- 9:06Speaker 2: At the time, We're like, really, we're gonna do this again.
- 9:08Speaker 2: The two of us geek out. So now I'm like,
- 9:10Speaker 2: all right, Nick, my guy. So since then he and
- 9:13Speaker 2: his wife have a kid, they get married, and Nick's podcast,
- 9:19Speaker 2: The Vile Files goes absolutely bonkers. I tell you all
- 9:22Speaker 2: this because I am been tired after five hours of television,
- 9:25Speaker 2: but I committed to doing this podcast and I'm like,
- 9:28Speaker 2: it's really bad form to bail. I would be furious
- 9:31Speaker 2: if I had a podcast and like a guest was
- 9:33Speaker 2: agreed to come on and then an hour out it
- 9:35Speaker 2: was like, I'm too tired. So I get in the
- 9:38Speaker 2: uber and I'm like, I'll type in the address and
- 9:40Speaker 2: it says Ventura Boulevard. I only know that from like
- 9:43Speaker 2: movies and the I Love La song by Gary Newman,
- 9:47Speaker 2: not Gary Newman from Randy Newman. Anyway, I'm exhausted. I
- 9:52Speaker 2: type it into my Uber. It says eighty four minutes
- 9:57Speaker 2: away and it says one hundred and something dollars. I'm like, ah,
- 10:03Speaker 2: but I commit it, and I'm like, I'm gonna do it.
- 10:07Speaker 2: And I go there. The most professional setup, the most
- 10:12Speaker 2: like like a whole crew, like i'd say a staff
- 10:14Speaker 2: of ten for this thing, full studio, and I'm like,
- 10:18Speaker 2: oh wow, what is it? Like does Netflix run this?
- 10:20Speaker 2: And he's like, nope, I self fund this, like this
- 10:23Speaker 2: is my own thing, entrepreneurial. We get in that chair,
- 10:27Speaker 2: We do ninety minutes of podcasting, me, him and his
- 10:31Speaker 2: wife and two of their goes. I had a blast.
- 10:35Speaker 2: They posted it this morning. I'm getting more responses from
- 10:39Speaker 2: being on the viol Files, vil Files and from like
- 10:43Speaker 2: who knows where, like thousands of comments from like people,
- 10:46Speaker 2: I love this episode. I think I've officially like hit
- 10:49Speaker 2: a new sector in the grid. There's like football fans
- 10:53Speaker 2: and I've been on Barstool, They're great. I've been on Simmons,
- 10:56Speaker 2: They're great. I am now hitting like the reality talk
- 10:59Speaker 2: show circuit and like the feedback's been amazing now. In
- 11:02Speaker 2: that interview, Aaron I I was asked about whether I'm
- 11:07Speaker 2: a fan of Taylor Swift and Travis or not, and
- 11:09Speaker 2: I'm like, you know what, if you're against Taylor Swift
- 11:13Speaker 2: being on TV because you think it takes away from
- 11:14Speaker 2: your football, you're a neanderthal, like I call it. You
- 11:17Speaker 2: are a neanderthal who cares if it adds one more
- 11:19Speaker 2: eyeball boy, girl, man, woman, whatever you identify as, if
- 11:23Speaker 2: it adds one more eyeball to football, Why is that?
- 11:27Speaker 2: Why is that a threat? And Taylor doesn't want the
- 11:29Speaker 2: cameras they find her, it's not like it's on her.
- 11:31Speaker 2: It's fine. And then I went into my story of
- 11:33Speaker 2: how great Travis Kelsey is and what a good guy
- 11:36Speaker 2: is and how I thought he might have changed to Taylor,
- 11:38Speaker 2: but then we hung out this summer and he was great.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I'd say sixty seconds, Aaron, I'm not kidding. I don't
- 11:45Speaker 2: think Google alerts set for myself. I don't know anything.
- 11:48Speaker 2: I follow US Weekly on Twitter. My heart skips a
- 11:52Speaker 2: beat this morning, I'm scrolling and it says sportscaster Peter
- 11:57Speaker 2: Schrager takes aim at Neanderthal's who are upset with Taylor
- 12:01Speaker 2: Swift on the broadcast. Now I get the algorithm. If
- 12:05Speaker 2: you put Taylor Swift's name in a headline, someone's probably
- 12:08Speaker 2: clicking and the Swift. I don't think if you put
- 12:11Speaker 2: sportscaster Peter Schrager's name, it's actually clickbait at all. In fact,
- 12:15Speaker 2: people might be repelled by even seeing that name in
- 12:18Speaker 2: that world, and they might not care, like, who the
- 12:19Speaker 2: hell is that? But I was on US Weekly, on
- 12:22Speaker 2: the homepage of US Weekly all morning for a comment
- 12:25Speaker 2: I had, and thank god, Aaron, thank god I didn't
- 12:29Speaker 2: take aim at Taylor Swift because I know that army's
- 12:32Speaker 2: out there, and I wasn't looking for the ire of
- 12:34Speaker 2: that army. But I will tell you, it has been
- 12:36Speaker 2: about two hours since that podcast posted, and I'm getting
- 12:39Speaker 2: more of a response from that than anything I've done
- 12:41Speaker 2: on the NFL network in like six years.
- 12:42Speaker 4: I don't know a ton about reality TV show, So
- 12:45Speaker 4: I mean I looked him up as you're talking, very
- 12:48Speaker 4: attractive guy, totally makes sense he's on the Bachelor, And
- 12:52Speaker 4: I will admit it is a blind spot of mine
- 12:55Speaker 4: reality TV. But I also know that market is enormous,
- 13:00Speaker 4: so many people watch all those shows and are into
- 13:04Speaker 4: the Bachelor of Nation and is blind and uh, the
- 13:09Speaker 4: vander Pumps and kardash I mean, I clearly I don't
- 13:12Speaker 4: know these. I can't even think of like ones besides Kardashians, Like,
- 13:17Speaker 4: but yeah, good for you for having the wherewithal without
- 13:21Speaker 4: even knowing it's going to be clipped and made into
- 13:23Speaker 4: a social clip or a headline. Taylor, Yeah, good tailor take.
- 13:29Speaker 4: And I mean, you know, we've talked about Taylor and
- 13:32Speaker 4: Travis multiple times on the show. I think it's it's
- 13:37Speaker 4: like the fact that it's still a conversation is is
- 13:40Speaker 4: kind of funny at this point, like that people are even.
- 13:43Speaker 1: Upset about themselves.
- 13:44Speaker 2: There was some document that lead Yeah, they're going to
- 13:47Speaker 2: be done on September twenty seven. Let's circle it. Let's
- 13:50Speaker 2: see it's more content. But Aaron, my day wasn't done
- 13:59Speaker 2: because right from there I had to go to Sofi
- 14:02Speaker 2: Stadium because the Good Morning Football Career did a prime
- 14:06Speaker 2: time special on NBC which was some collaboration with the NFL.
- 14:11Speaker 2: I wasn't sure how that happened, but from nine to
- 14:13Speaker 2: ten we did a live hour from Sofi which was
- 14:16Speaker 2: really cool, in which we talked to NFL and previewed
- 14:20Speaker 2: the games for this weekend. So I'm fried. And then
- 14:24Speaker 2: Thursday morning, I went on Good Morning Football and I
- 14:26Speaker 2: had to make my Super Bowl pick with no further ado.
- 14:30Speaker 2: I'm going to toss to the clip because I give
- 14:32Speaker 2: all the build up. But I think if you're listening
- 14:33Speaker 2: to this podcast, you know how much I take these
- 14:35Speaker 2: predictions seriously and how the Super Bowl prediction in particular
- 14:39Speaker 2: means a lot to me. Let's go to Good Morning
- 14:42Speaker 2: Football Thursday morning. Peter Schrager in his official Super Bowl selection.
- 14:49Speaker 1: It's an annual tradition on Good Morning Football, and for me,
- 14:53Speaker 1: it has actually taken a bit of a life of
- 14:56Speaker 1: its own. If you'll indulge me, I would like to
- 14:59Speaker 1: show you something. Enjoy the following look back in time,
- 15:02Speaker 1: Miss folks. That says six years worth of soothsaying On
- 15:06Speaker 1: NF Kickoff Thursday, take a watch.
- 15:15Speaker 3: I think the Chiefs finally get over the hump, finally
- 15:18Speaker 3: get into the Super Bowl, and I think Andy finally
- 15:21Speaker 3: gets a chance to go and go face to face
- 15:24Speaker 3: with another coach other than Bill Belichick at the biggest
- 15:27Speaker 3: game of his.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Career, Super Bowl fifty four. Fifty years the Chiefs have
- 15:31Speaker 1: waited to get to this point. Guess who I have
- 15:33Speaker 1: representing the National Football Conference in the Super Bowl. The
- 15:37Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers. All the Super Bowl Championship about him Bucks.
- 15:42Speaker 1: This year's Super Bowl champion feature a quarterback who has
- 15:48Speaker 1: yet to win an NFL playoff.
- 15:52Speaker 3: I'm taking Los Angeles Rams to take this thing home
- 15:56Speaker 3: and this.
- 15:57Speaker 1: Guy to cement his place in NFL history.
- 16:01Speaker 4: The Los Angeles Rams, our world champion.
- 16:05Speaker 5: The winner a Super Bowl fifty seven in Glendale, Arizona
- 16:09Speaker 5: this February will be.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Ch City Chiefs, led by linebacker Nick.
- 16:19Speaker 1: He kicks the ball, check up my judge.
- 16:21Speaker 3: The city for the second time in four seasons, a
- 16:25Speaker 3: long boarding trophy as a red and gold reflections in
- 16:30Speaker 3: the city. Chiefs well, yet again, be your Super Bowl
- 16:35Speaker 3: champion Jack Park, Kansas City.
- 16:39Speaker 1: Wow, all right, it's over the last six years I've
- 16:41Speaker 1: been money on my Super Bowl picks. I've had either
- 16:44Speaker 1: the exact sable matchup that's been multiple times one of
- 16:47Speaker 1: the two participants, or I've gone three for three, which
- 16:50Speaker 1: is matchup and winner. I have successfully picked the last
- 16:53Speaker 1: three Super Bowl champions with pinpoint precision and just enough
- 16:57Speaker 1: arrogance where there are a lot of people who just
- 16:59Speaker 1: root against me. But it has also crept into my
- 17:02Speaker 1: personal life. You see, my wife shall post a photo
- 17:04Speaker 1: of our beautiful baby daughter and Instagram. In the first come,
- 17:07Speaker 1: I will be Who's Peter taking to win the Super Bowl?
- 17:10Speaker 1: I'll bee had school pickup for my seven year old
- 17:12Speaker 1: son mel and a teacher will pull me aside. I'm like, going, no,
- 17:15Speaker 1: what do you do here? Who you got this year?
- 17:17Speaker 1: I take this all very seriously. I dedicate my entire
- 17:20Speaker 1: summer to getting these picks to a place where I
- 17:22Speaker 1: feel comfortable enough to go on national TV, share them,
- 17:26Speaker 1: and then pin them to my social media platforms right
- 17:29Speaker 1: there on top, showing you cards on the table whether
- 17:32Speaker 1: it's worth hanging my hat on or not. My super
- 17:34Speaker 1: Bowl matchup and my picks. We'll move markets today. I
- 17:37Speaker 1: mean this. It is a burden, it is a responsibility,
- 17:39Speaker 1: and if I'm being honest, it's an absolute freaking pleasure.
- 17:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:43Speaker 1: So who's going this year? Come with me, Come with
- 17:45Speaker 1: me here, We're going on the big board. All right,
- 17:49Speaker 1: let's start in the NFC. See, the NFC, in my eyes,
- 17:53Speaker 1: has just only six to seven teams that can legitimately
- 17:57Speaker 1: make a run this year. The team I'm selecting to
- 17:59Speaker 1: represent the conference has all the pieces that I love
- 18:02Speaker 1: in a Super Bowl contender. They have an ascending quarterback,
- 18:07Speaker 1: they have emerging stars on both sides of the ball,
- 18:10Speaker 1: and they have just enough playoff experience that they could
- 18:15Speaker 1: say they have been there and done that. They also
- 18:17Speaker 1: have a coach with something that his peers have that
- 18:23Speaker 1: he does not on their resumes. The NFC will be
- 18:26Speaker 1: represented by.
- 18:32Speaker 5: Wow, Jordan Love, Matt Lafleur, and the Green Bay Packers.
- 18:39Speaker 1: I'm going to go one step further here on this prediction.
- 18:42Speaker 1: Put this in print. They're going as a wild card team,
- 18:45Speaker 1: just like the Rogers team did so many years, and
- 18:48Speaker 1: to make this run, the Packers head coach Matt Lafleur
- 18:51Speaker 1: is going to take his team, and they're going to
- 18:53Speaker 1: go on the road and beat his old buddy Sean
- 18:55Speaker 1: McVay in La It's going to go on the road
- 18:58Speaker 1: and beat the rival Lions in Detroit. And then he's
- 19:01Speaker 1: going to go on the road and beat his former
- 19:04Speaker 1: colleague and his nemesis, Kyle Shanahan in San Francisco. The
- 19:08Speaker 1: Packers are going back to New Orleans where they won
- 19:11Speaker 1: a Super Bowl twenty eight years ago. And who will
- 19:13Speaker 1: they face? Well, day here we go. They're gonna face
- 19:20Speaker 1: the same team the Fackers franchise faced in Super Bowl One.
- 19:24Speaker 1: They're the most dominant team of this era and they
- 19:27Speaker 1: are a squad that has helped define a generation of
- 19:30Speaker 1: football fans. They're facing the Kansas City Chiefs. You know.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Since the merging of the AFL and the NFL, no
- 19:38Speaker 1: team has won three Super Bowls in a row. Ever,
- 19:41Speaker 1: eight different teams have tried. The sixties Packers won the
- 19:46Speaker 1: first two Super Bowls, but after Lombardi stepped away, they
- 19:49Speaker 1: couldn't win one more. The Steelers had the opportunity two
- 19:52Speaker 1: different times in the seventies, but they came up short
- 19:55Speaker 1: both times. The forty nine Ers nearly did it in
- 19:58Speaker 1: the late eighties, but they ran into a red hot
- 20:00Speaker 1: Giants team and lost in Candlestick. The nineties Cowboys they
- 20:04Speaker 1: won three of four, but they didn't win three straight.
- 20:07Speaker 1: The Broncos got two but not three, and then the
- 20:09Speaker 1: Patriots came up short twenty years ago. That's eight legendary teams,
- 20:15Speaker 1: eight teams that the NFL Films archives have built theirselves on,
- 20:19Speaker 1: and all eight of those teams are zero four eight.
- 20:24Speaker 1: So I ask you at home, is this Chiefs team special?
- 20:28Speaker 1: Can this Chiefs team make history? Rather recently, in other sports,
- 20:33Speaker 1: the Bulls have completed a three peat twice. The Yankees
- 20:36Speaker 1: did it in New York and baseball, and the Lakers
- 20:38Speaker 1: did it here in LA with Shaq and Kobe. But
- 20:40Speaker 1: in football, three Super Bowls in a row, it's unprecedented.
- 20:46Speaker 1: It's unchartered territory. The Packers are going to be a
- 20:49Speaker 1: mighty opponent. They're gonna come in red hot, and I
- 20:53Speaker 1: don't see a three peat happening. No, I don't, because
- 20:58Speaker 1: three p that term has been used time and time again,
- 21:02Speaker 1: and if I'm being honest, it is not fitting for
- 21:05Speaker 1: a team as historic and as unique and as incredible
- 21:10Speaker 1: as this one. It's simply not dignified or special enough
- 21:14Speaker 1: a term. Three peak. Get that out the window, ladies
- 21:16Speaker 1: and gentlemen. The winner of Super Bowl fifty nine, and
- 21:20Speaker 1: doing so against the winners of the first two Super
- 21:23Speaker 1: Bowls ever, will be the team that completes the Chiefs.
- 21:31Speaker 6: The chief speak, three in a row, chief feet, three
- 21:36Speaker 6: in a row.
- 21:37Speaker 1: The Chiefs peak, and the City does it again.
- 21:40Speaker 5: Another ring, Another super Bowl MVP for this guy, and
- 21:44Speaker 5: the Chief's pete is completed in glorious fashion. February ninth
- 21:47Speaker 5: and New Orleans and the greatest team to ever take
- 21:52Speaker 5: the field in any era, in any generation wins three
- 21:56Speaker 5: in a row on Fox with Tom Brady on the call.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, the Chiefs are doing it again. It
- 22:03Speaker 1: is the Chief's peat. Take that three peat term and
- 22:05Speaker 1: throw it in the garbage. We've got our NFL version
- 22:08Speaker 1: of the greatest single team of all time. Three in
- 22:12Speaker 1: a row. Kansas City Chiefs. Mahomes read Kelsey, They get
- 22:15Speaker 1: the job done. What are you say? I don't like
- 22:25Speaker 1: that three pet everyone else has three peat.
- 22:27Speaker 6: Great job, Peter, I like that one. Unbelievable cheats Peter.
- 22:33Speaker 6: There it is like I just saw like this great
- 22:36Speaker 6: films you know how you feel. I know you really are.
- 22:46Speaker 2: That was it. Chiefs over Packers wrote that over the
- 22:50Speaker 2: course of like three or four days, Aaron, you must
- 22:55Speaker 2: you must have a thought or two. What do you got?
- 22:57Speaker 2: What are your thoughts?
- 22:58Speaker 4: I mean, I love the branding of Chiefs Peat. I
- 23:00Speaker 4: think that's awesome. I also like as as you're doing it,
- 23:03Speaker 4: and and I think it's Kyle is saying, I feel
- 23:06Speaker 4: like I just watched this great film and and you're like,
- 23:08Speaker 4: I'm in a tour. Yeah, it feels like you know,
- 23:10Speaker 4: this is uh, this is Ridley Scott. He's got a
- 23:13Speaker 4: couple of films under his belt. Uh, he just puts
- 23:16Speaker 4: together this idea for a movie with this alien on
- 23:19Speaker 4: a spaceship and we're gonna we're gonna like redefine the
- 23:23Speaker 4: horror genre. And it was Yeah, that was that was theater.
- 23:27Speaker 4: You know, we talk about Broadway a lot on here.
- 23:29Speaker 4: But you had a little misterrect you like made us think, oh,
- 23:33Speaker 4: it's not gonna be a three piece. So it's like, oh,
- 23:35Speaker 4: is he is he gonna take the Packers and pick
- 23:37Speaker 4: them to beat Mahomes? But no, it's just the rebrand.
- 23:40Speaker 4: It's the Chief's Peak. I loved it. I yeah, I
- 23:45Speaker 4: think at this point, I know you had talked on
- 23:49Speaker 4: the on the show the other day and you were like,
- 23:51Speaker 4: do I go with the thing that is, you know,
- 23:54Speaker 4: kind of the the the chalk pick, or do I
- 23:58Speaker 4: go with something that maybe makes a little bit more headlines.
- 24:00Speaker 4: I think this still makes headlines, Like even if you're
- 24:04Speaker 4: thinking of it this way with Mahomes winning a third one,
- 24:08Speaker 4: it's what many people maybe are expecting and putting in.
- 24:11Speaker 4: I still think it's it's done in a good way,
- 24:16Speaker 4: and I still like Packers going all the way as
- 24:18Speaker 4: a wildcard team, or not all the way, but to
- 24:21Speaker 4: the Super Bowl.
- 24:22Speaker 2: I gotta say I lost a lot of sleep because
- 24:25Speaker 2: I part of me wanted to put the Jets and
- 24:27Speaker 2: Lions in the Super Bowl and this clip might go
- 24:29Speaker 2: viral whatever because everyone's listening to Jets and Lions were
- 24:33Speaker 2: right there to my tongue. And then then I wanted
- 24:35Speaker 2: to put the Rams in because I'm like, you know what,
- 24:38Speaker 2: Stafford's healthy, everyone's off that team because Donald's I think
- 24:41Speaker 2: the Rams are gonna be really good. So instead I
- 24:43Speaker 2: have the Jets is the one seed in the AFC,
- 24:45Speaker 2: the Rams is the two seed in the NFC, the
- 24:47Speaker 2: Lions is the one seed. All in all, that was it.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I went with the Packers. I don't see many people
- 24:55Speaker 2: picking the Packers, but they were so good at the
- 24:57Speaker 2: end of last season, and as long as they don't
- 24:58Speaker 2: read their headlines, I think they're gonna be really good again. Aaron,
- 25:03Speaker 2: I'm gonna end the podcast here, but before I do
- 25:05Speaker 2: so you have an equal voice on this thing. For
- 25:09Speaker 2: the sake of putting it on paper, We've done all
- 25:11Speaker 2: the predictions in the last episode. Who do you have
- 25:14Speaker 2: in your super Bowl and who do you have winning?
- 25:17Speaker 4: So you know, we talked about this on the awards
- 25:19Speaker 4: and the playoff storylines. I like a narrative and a storyline,
- 25:24Speaker 4: and in my head, it would be really amazing if
- 25:28Speaker 4: we could get a Lion's Kansas a Detroit Kansas City
- 25:31Speaker 4: super Bowl because you have you have the team that
- 25:34Speaker 4: everyone like that wants it more than anything because they're
- 25:37Speaker 4: trying to reach this unattainable high of three Super Bowls
- 25:42Speaker 4: in a row, and you have on the other side
- 25:45Speaker 4: this team who's who's you know, this is still the
- 25:47Speaker 4: DNA of biton kneecaps, Dan Campbell and they want to
- 25:51Speaker 4: win it with the hard work, and like, you know,
- 25:54Speaker 4: I think people would really want to root for Detroit
- 25:58Speaker 4: in that case, and I still think Kansas City would win, Okay,
- 26:01Speaker 4: I yeah, yeah. At this point, I don't know how
- 26:05Speaker 4: I can ever doubt Kansas City until they give me
- 26:09Speaker 4: serious reason to doubt them. There have been too many
- 26:12Speaker 4: times when everyone wants to count them out and you can't.
- 26:17Speaker 4: It feels a lot like you know, during those prime
- 26:23Speaker 4: Heatles years. Yeah, I am not a Lebron fan, but
- 26:27Speaker 4: watching Lebron and just being like, oh my god, I
- 26:29Speaker 4: can't believe this guy is able to do this, Like
- 26:32Speaker 4: how is he so good? How is his team so good?
- 26:34Speaker 4: And I got to watch everyone go up against him
- 26:36Speaker 4: and lose, and it has it has the air of that,
- 26:39Speaker 4: like Mahomes is the the Lebron, the Jordan character who
- 26:45Speaker 4: you know, you you have to measure everything against them,
- 26:49Speaker 4: no doubt. So yeah, Detroit Kansas City, and I think
- 26:54Speaker 4: Kansas City takes it.
- 26:55Speaker 2: I like both of our picks. I'm putting it down now.
- 26:57Speaker 2: I'm putting yours in my notes at and big Dog.
- 27:00Speaker 2: Let's end on that. We got football tonight. We'll be
- 27:04Speaker 2: back next week. I'm not going through all the Week
- 27:05Speaker 2: one games. We'll discuss all the storylines. Next week. I
- 27:08Speaker 2: think I'll be back in New York City, will probably
- 27:10Speaker 2: record this on Tuesday. We'll see we have a guest
- 27:12Speaker 2: or if you and I is chomp it up having
- 27:14Speaker 2: a blast everyone at home. One tweet and again you
- 27:17Speaker 2: know I can't gamble on this stuff. I'm going to
- 27:19Speaker 2: employ the NFL a guy named John Ewing. He's one
- 27:23Speaker 2: of these leading stats analytics but also gambling guys. Tweeted out.
- 27:29Speaker 2: Peter Schrager has the Chiefs beating the Packers in the
- 27:31Speaker 2: Super Bowl since making his pick Chiefs over Packers in
- 27:34Speaker 2: the Super Bowl is the most bet outcome at bet
- 27:37Speaker 2: MG in sum moving markets. Right there, That's what I said,
- 27:41Speaker 2: Wowing God, bless everybody. Enjoy the football.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Let's go.
- 27:57Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Schrager is a production of the
