- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the three OT where we talk all
- 0:05things Major League Baseball. Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate
- 0:10Reyes. It all starts right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the three OT presented by Chinook.
- 0:17Cedry. This is episode 528.
- 0:19I'll be your host, Kyle Corwin. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes. Nate.
- 0:27Let's go, let's go. Made it to Thursday.
- 0:32It's basically the weekend. Love it, feels good.
- 0:38Feels great What a great transition I wanted to ask you
- 0:42off the top so I just posted a TikTok and the topic of said
- 0:47TikTok and I want I want to work through this I I wanted I want
- 0:52to get your thoughts here day day baseball yeah where do we
- 0:56stand I know we've addressed it like we we've alluded to it but
- 0:59like we we need to get to the bottom of this day baseball.
- 1:02How do we feel about it? Because I've been watching some
- 1:05day baseball today, watching some as we speak.
- 1:12Where we at on day baseball? Because in the in the video I
- 1:16said it's it's either massively underrated or it's the worst
- 1:21thing ever. And I think it just depends if
- 1:23it it it falls on whether or not you're able like you're in a
- 1:31point of life, you're in a situation in life where you can
- 1:34watch day baseball regularly or not.
- 1:38Is that fair to say? Yeah.
- 1:39Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely know what you mean.
- 1:42Like if you're out on the work site.
- 1:44Right, let's be real, if you're working from home, you love day
- 1:47baseball. Right, that's that's my point.
- 1:51And we're referring to Monday through Friday day baseball.
- 1:54Correct. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:55For sure day. Weekday, Weekday day baseball.
- 2:00I think it also depends on time zones.
- 2:02That's another factor to consider here, right?
- 2:07Like being on the West Coast, I, I love my time zone when it,
- 2:15when it's comes to baseball, 'cause like you get day baseball
- 2:21starting at 10:00 AM. If you got the chance to, to, to
- 2:25throw that on, throw that on. Then you have maybe another
- 2:30round at, at 1:00 PM, right? And then you've got and then. 4.
- 2:38And then you got. Four.
- 2:40That's and then you have. And then you have your local
- 2:45West Coast games at 7:00 so you can end it with Padres, Dodgers,
- 2:53Diamondbacks, A's, Giants like you have all day.
- 3:00And then you could boast is under freaking rated.
- 3:04And then? You could watch a show by the
- 3:06time you're done with your West Coast games if you really wanted
- 3:09to. That's illegal.
- 3:10But all that to say, you. Got 2 TV's up, you throw that
- 3:14night game on you and it's TV show with the wife on the right.
- 3:19Unbelievable. What's so what's, what's the
- 3:21verdict here? Do we like, is it massively
- 3:24underrated or is it just the worst thing ever?
- 3:28Because you, honestly, you and I are in different, different
- 3:30boats here. I three days a week.
- 3:32I'm or two days a week. I'm working from home, but I
- 3:36also work at desk jobs. So like, I could I could in
- 3:38theory have it up if I wanted to.
- 3:40Yeah. You, on the other hand, you're
- 3:43at you're at different sites, you're you're away from your
- 3:45your Home Office where you're at now from time to time.
- 3:48So like, can we arrive at a resolution here or how do we
- 3:53feel? What's the verdict?
- 3:55I don't know why I feel so why I feel particularly strongly about
- 3:59this today. But I was just sitting there.
- 4:01It's beautiful outside the games I watched today, beautiful
- 4:05outside at those parks. I'm like this This seems great
- 4:08but am I over hyping it in my head?
- 4:15I'm going to say underrated. I'm going to.
- 4:16I'm going to give the slight edge to underrated.
- 4:18I agree. I don't think we we value day
- 4:21baseball the way it should be valued.
- 4:23I agree again, but it depends on your situation, depends on your
- 4:29time zone, depends on your work scenario.
- 4:32You West Coast people make me sick.
- 4:34I'm telling you, man, it's it's something that needs to be
- 4:38documented and and understood that when it comes to baseball
- 4:43viewing, we have the superior time zone.
- 4:47Sickening. You know what else is sickening?
- 4:50The fact that Juan Soto came out this week and all but admitted
- 4:59that he misses his boys in the Bronx.
- 5:03Specifically one boy in particular by the name of Aaron
- 5:06Judge. You said this, I think it in
- 5:11some way, shape or form. I, I agreed with you.
- 5:14Many other people were saying this.
- 5:16This was very now let's take a step back first, whether or not
- 5:23I feel like he should have played for the continue to play
- 5:26for the Yankees or the Mets in like a in at a more macro level,
- 5:30like what this does for his his image, his branding, his career
- 5:34trajectory as a whole different conversation.
- 5:38But strictly speaking, strictly addressing the whole like, what
- 5:42are my numbers going to look like at the end of each season
- 5:45for the next decade plus? I feel like this was or as long
- 5:51as Aaron Judge is playing for the Yankees.
- 5:53Yeah, let's say 5-6 years, Yeah. I feel like this was kind of
- 5:57predictable. Yeah, Soto, like, come on.
- 6:00Yeah. Maybe less time spent on trying
- 6:04to negotiate clothing allowances for your family and more time
- 6:09looking at the cold hard numbers.
- 6:13My brother, this we. You could have seen this coming
- 6:15a mile away. Tried.
- 6:17To tell you tried to tell you you had it made in the shade,
- 6:21man, you had. I think to be fair, we're we are
- 6:26basing it off of quite literally one of the best seasons a
- 6:31hitter's ever had. So I don't think we can say that
- 6:35what Aaron Judge did last year is the norm or would be the norm
- 6:40moving forward. But you see, the way he's doing
- 6:43it already, the start of this year, it's like, yeah, that
- 6:48you're, you're clearly in a better situation with him behind
- 6:51you. So.
- 6:54That's what I'm saying. Like would you would your
- 6:56approach change in like, let's just call it like a five year
- 6:59vacuum 2021 if you've got these two on the same team and Aaron
- 7:04Judge is Aaron Judge, are you are you changing your approach
- 7:07year to year? It like aside from the fact that
- 7:11Aaron Judd had had an absolutely historic season last year, next
- 7:17year, if Soto was on the team with him, are you assuming he's
- 7:20not going to do the same thing historically, but he's still
- 7:23going to be Aaron Judge? Like are you really changing
- 7:25your approach that much? Yeah, exactly.
- 7:28This doesn't change. Or the way you attack him I
- 7:31should. Say we knew this man.
- 7:32We knew this look like I don't I'm going to I don't want to be
- 7:37a hater. I'm not a I'm not a Soto hater.
- 7:39I I like Soto. Can I jump in real quick?
- 7:43I realized I didn't even share the quote.
- 7:45They were discussing, Yeah, go go ahead and throw that out
- 7:47there. That's probably important.
- 7:48So they were asking Soto about no longer hitting in front of
- 7:51Judge, and his response was it's definitely different.
- 7:55I had the best hitter in baseball hitting behind me.
- 7:57I was getting more attacked and more pitches in the strike zone,
- 8:00less intentional walks and things like that.
- 8:03I was pitched differently last year.
- 8:08Yep. Continue on.
- 8:09Sorry. Checks out.
- 8:10Definitely checks out. Adds up.
- 8:15What do you want man like you can't can't have your cake and
- 8:19eat it too. You know what I mean it's this
- 8:21whole scenario this look like I said I don't I'm not a hater for
- 8:25Soto. I I like Soto am IA little
- 8:32bummed he's not a Yankee for the rest of his career yeah, it just
- 8:36it in my mind it felt right it it felt like a great fit.
- 8:40He looked great in the uniform fans loved them.
- 8:43It was a successful year like it all felt like it made sense for
- 8:48him to come back. Do I understand why he went a
- 8:52different route yes. I just don't want this to I
- 8:59don't want him to turn into like a Kevin Durant.
- 9:02You know what I mean? Where like you see him go to the
- 9:05Golden State Warriors and he gets his ring.
- 9:09Everything looks great. You check that box.
- 9:14And I'm not saying Soto got a ring, but you know what I'm
- 9:16saying? Like ever since that Durant has
- 9:19been like, let's go here. Doesn't work fine.
- 9:23I want to trade and and like an organization basically implodes
- 9:28just to make it happen and get him.
- 9:31And now he's destroyed the Brooklyn Nets.
- 9:33Now he's destroyed the Phoenix Suns.
- 9:35And you're like, what? You're just burning bridges
- 9:37everywhere you go. And I'm not saying that anything
- 9:40similar in baseball because like clearly soda is going to be
- 9:43locked up as a Met for a while. But as as much as we can give
- 9:51credit to Stevie Cohen, like we knew that once you make this
- 9:54signing, you're not able to just go out and and do what the
- 10:01Dodgers did because they did it in a better, smarter way instead
- 10:05of just backing up the Brinks truck and saying here's all of
- 10:09our money. So I'd feel bummed about this.
- 10:14I don't know who's I haven't really paid attention to the
- 10:16Mets a ton this year. I'll put my hand up on that.
- 10:19Who's been hitting behind him? Primarily, I'm.
- 10:23Assuming Pete Pete's been swinging it.
- 10:26Well, I got to say, I know we're, I know we're not the
- 10:29biggest of Pete Alonzo guys, but which by the way, let me confirm
- 10:36that. Did you see, by the way, that
- 10:39he's, I, I saw an article that said he's eyeing a return to the
- 10:42WBC next year. In front of who?
- 10:47Pete. Eyeing a return, please.
- 10:50You're first in line. You called Mark DeRosa and Aaron
- 10:53Judge already, bro. Like you've already made that
- 10:55call. Don't act like I'm kind of
- 10:57considering it. No, you're not.
- 10:59I don't know. Does he think he's playing first
- 11:02on that team? Because if if Bryce Harper is
- 11:05even remotely interested, I don't know where Pete thinks
- 11:07he's playing. There's a few names I'd take.
- 11:10I'd take Freddie. I'd take Maddie O.
- 11:13Pete's. Pete's hit bottom just to
- 11:16confirm, Yeah. Yeah, but like.
- 11:22Pete's been swinging it real well, dude. 5 homers, 365.
- 11:25I don't really love that comment.
- 11:27Like I get it's honest and we talk about this all the time.
- 11:30We're like, we love when the politically correct copy paste
- 11:36answers can sometimes be put aside and there's just like real
- 11:39raw comments coming through. That's great.
- 11:44It feels great. I just don't get it.
- 11:51Pete's off to a good start. Get Frankie Lindore ahead of
- 11:54you. Like what positive outcome are
- 11:57you assuming is going to is going to come out of this
- 12:02strange. Meanwhile, Judge is like hitting
- 12:08over 400 so. Yeah, I mean, it wasn't a note
- 12:12to say that Pete's hitting better than Aaron, but just the
- 12:15fact that Pete's hitting well, especially after.
- 12:17The relax. The drama that went down this
- 12:20offseason with him literally waiting outside the door of Citi
- 12:26Field. I feel like there's a very clear
- 12:29route to go with majority of media questions.
- 12:32There's 2 routes to go and it's when in doubt just praise your
- 12:36current team and current situation.
- 12:39How hard is it to do that? You weren't kidding about the
- 12:47the Suns, by the way. I saw it kind of going off, kind
- 12:51of going off the the off topic here, but I saw some of the
- 12:54other day that said of the what are there 32 teams in the NBA?
- 13:00Sure. I don't know.
- 13:01I think I think 323032, whatever of the whatever amount of teams.
- 13:07Yeah, because it's 8:00 and 8:00 in the playoffs.
- 13:09It's half the league. There's only one team that was
- 13:12either that was no, I'm sorry, all but one team in the NBA was
- 13:20either in the playoffs, in the in the play in games or had a
- 13:26lottery pick. Only one team wasn't wasn't in
- 13:32that mix it all and it was the Suns traded.
- 13:34Away all their first round picks for this horrible team and a
- 13:38Kevin Durant who plays half the games.
- 13:44They just fired their coach like it's a train wreck.
- 13:49Train wreck. And I'm not saying that's going
- 13:50to happen. I don't I don't even think the
- 13:52Mets are going to are going to become that in any way.
- 13:54And I don't think Soto is going to be considered that.
- 13:57But it's like you got to wonder. The grass ain't always greener
- 14:06and no one feels bad for you when you leave for that bag and
- 14:11then try to say that you you kind of miss the way it used to
- 14:14be. I don't, I don't have any,
- 14:21sorry. I don't have any empathy for
- 14:23this. It was just so this was so
- 14:26predictable and and on the flip side, just to put a ball in this
- 14:30real quick, so we got to move on the P to play devil's advocate
- 14:34here, the people that are freaking out about the 1st 20
- 14:37games of a 15 year contract, Yeah, relax.
- 14:41Yeah, calm down. Your anti Soto bias is showing
- 14:45when you're sitting here writing up like putting the nail in the
- 14:50coffin of his career based on the way the 1st 20 games has
- 14:54gone. Chill OK, relax.
- 14:56Yep. Yep, Yep.
- 14:58He's still a generational talent.
- 15:00I stand by it, but he maybe could have been a generational
- 15:04town and then some had he stayed in the Bronx.
- 15:06Could. Have been but.
- 15:08Could have, should have, would have.
- 15:08You know, Nate, I got a little, I got a new little thing I
- 15:14thought of the other day that I wanted to introduce today.
- 15:17Are Are you ready for it? I don't know.
- 15:21I don't like being put on the spot.
- 15:23It's oh, it's a yes or no question.
- 15:26Yes. All right, so it's this little
- 15:28thing that I want to start doing this year.
- 15:30I'm calling it the credit cannon, and we're just going to
- 15:36blast some dudes with credit, with props, whatever you want to
- 15:41call it. All right, let's start here with
- 15:45Tyler Soderstrom killing it. Dude, goodness, when is it?
- 15:52When are we going to recognize what this guy's doing?
- 15:55Like, when are we going to give this guy?
- 15:56Well, right now we're going to give this guy's props, but.
- 15:59Right now we're going to hit him with a cannon.
- 16:01I mean is this let? Me pull his numbers back up real
- 16:07quick. I mean, I've got his numbers you
- 16:10want you want to know his numbers right now?
- 16:12First off, great baseball name and probably the most A's name
- 16:17there's. A very A's name.
- 16:19Yeah, I'm with you. I don't know why, why the A's
- 16:22have like they just have a way style of name, but that's A very
- 16:26A's name for sure. His numbers on the year entering
- 16:33Wednesday, Thursday, excuse me today, 8 homers.
- 16:38He's hitting 3/24/17 ribbies on base of 395, slugging seven O 6
- 16:46OPS of 11 O1. His OPS plus is 2/23.
- 16:54Let's uptick it because he went ya ya today.
- 16:57So nine home runs, 18 RB. Is he's he's the first player in
- 17:05MLB history to have three multi Homer games in a season before
- 17:11the midway point of April. That's crazy.
- 17:14And what's even crazier, you want to talk about an uptick?
- 17:18He had nine. You said he hit 1 today.
- 17:20So he's got 9 on the year. He hit nine in 189 ABS last
- 17:26season. He's already got 9 through, call
- 17:32it 70. Is this, is this legit?
- 17:37Like, like is, is this the start of something?
- 17:41So, well, I mean, ace fans will be able to speak to a little bit
- 17:44better, but from a national, from a recognition household
- 17:47name kind of perspective, is this the start of something
- 17:51special? Or are we just catching
- 17:53lightning and a bottle here with Tyler?
- 17:55It's hard to say. I mean, it's, I don't want to
- 17:57like put a cap on it necessarily.
- 18:01I think it's exciting when you have like a super hot start to a
- 18:04year and it it's obviously way easier versus digging yourself
- 18:13out of a hole come May when you're like, that was a terrible
- 18:16April. So he's doing great.
- 18:21I, I think it something that's going to set him up for success.
- 18:24I what I worry about is that like, I hope he doesn't feel
- 18:29like this is the norm because when this does eventually come
- 18:33back down to earth, you don't want to see him completely just
- 18:37implode. You know what I mean?
- 18:39And you see that with guys. You've definitely seen that with
- 18:42guys like younger players that just feel like this is what the
- 18:46big leagues are. I got this in the bag, you know
- 18:52what I mean? And then crash, burn and you
- 19:00feel like you're not sure where the middle ground is.
- 19:04So there's this fine line of like, let's build up confidence,
- 19:08let's build up numbers, let's carry this as far as we can.
- 19:12But I hope that there's some understanding that like this
- 19:15isn't sustainable. You know what I mean?
- 19:18I think you're off to a great start.
- 19:21I think you're hopefully going to end the year in in a positive
- 19:26note and have great numbers to catapult yourself into what he
- 19:32hopes to be a good career. But I just, I don't want to see
- 19:35him think that this is the norm. His baseball savant page is
- 19:42literally off the charts. It's all.
- 19:45Red. Crazy.
- 19:47But ultimately what I hear you saying, though, is you don't
- 19:49believe that Tyler Soderstrom can be this generation's Barry
- 19:54Bonds. Probably not.
- 19:56Or at least this season's Barry Bonds.
- 19:59Probably not, but. Bold like what?
- 20:02You're doing like what you're doing, Mr. Soderstrom.
- 20:05Keep it up. Do you like?
- 20:06So hitting in that ballpark is got to be feeling quite.
- 20:09Oh, baby, super quick note on that though, and this is going
- 20:14to oh, this is going to rub some people the wrong way, But I'm
- 20:17I'm kind of, I didn't think I would.
- 20:19I'm kind of digging the minor league just as like a temporary
- 20:23measure like it's I. Like it with the rays.
- 20:25Too, It's dudes, especially the Rays.
- 20:27It's like kind of quirky. I'm like, we know this isn't
- 20:30going to be the long haul, but I would.
- 20:32And just 'cause I was watching the the series this this week
- 20:35against the Sox, I would much rather watch a Rays team play in
- 20:41a minor league stadium where they're going to fill the park,
- 20:45then watch them in the Trop where they're going to have
- 20:47pockets of people scattered throughout.
- 20:49And it ultimately is like the same amount of people.
- 20:51Like just give me, I don't know, maybe I'm maybe that's the
- 20:54minority. There, like if you're in those
- 20:55areas, go. I think it's such a cool, unique
- 20:58experience. Like this isn't forever, it's a
- 21:00temporary thing and like it and it's probably a lot cheaper Go.
- 21:06I kind of dig it. I didn't think it too hand up, I
- 21:09didn't think I'd get to this point, but I'm at least this
- 21:11point in the season. My, I don't know, I'm going to
- 21:14look at numbers, but my, I feel like my prediction is looking
- 21:18pretty good. By the way, it's a hot take
- 21:20prediction. Where are they at?
- 21:27They have scored 88 runs so far and I said that they were going
- 21:33to set a franchise record for runs scored.
- 21:40Never know. In the chat, the field in
- 21:42Sacramento is actually a really nice minor league field.
- 21:44They had a party area in left field along the baseline.
- 21:46It looks like it could be removed or covered up for the
- 21:49A's. That's what I'm saying, man.
- 21:51Like as a keyword temporary measure.
- 21:56Like I'm I'm if it's just for the time being, I'm about it.
- 22:00Just let's let it ride, let's enjoy it, and then we'll get
- 22:03back to the 10% attendance records for the Trop whenever
- 22:09they make their inevitable return.
- 22:13Kyle Tucker. Kyle Tucker through his first
- 22:18eighteen career games had hit had 23 hits, 19 runs scored, 18
- 22:25ribbies and 15 walks. No other player in Major League
- 22:28Baseball all time had reached those marks through their first
- 22:3218 games with a single team. That's courtesy of Optus Stats.
- 22:36Kyle Tucker is living up to the, I don't want to say the height,
- 22:41but the level of discussion that his name warranted to start this
- 22:49season. He is, I mean, he is absolutely
- 22:51mashing. Another key for for Kyle Tucker,
- 22:55I think to to credit his success towards is that he's seen the
- 22:59ball very, very well. He's obviously he's, I mean,
- 23:03he's hitting for average. I think he's hitting coming in
- 23:05today. He's hitting three O 1.
- 23:07He's got 5 homers, but he leaves all the baseball and walks and
- 23:12his strikeout percentage is, is is rather low.
- 23:17And so it's good to see that for the Cubs again.
- 23:21We talked about it recently. You hate to lose Justin Steele
- 23:24in a year where you've got Kyle Tucker in your back pocket and
- 23:28you're like you said, as the Cubs, you're you're making a
- 23:32real go with this thing. But he's at least holding up his
- 23:35end of the bargain. And that that's not to say that
- 23:40others aren't necessarily like you can't necessarily control
- 23:42injuries to the fullest extent, But where does this leave him
- 23:51with extension talks? Because I've seen, I've seen the
- 23:55rumors floating around that they're trying to get something
- 23:58worked back up again. I think I heard somewhere that I
- 24:05think it was whoever represents Dansby.
- 24:11Same same representation for Kyle Tucker, I think.
- 24:20I think it was either Dansby or Cody Bellinger.
- 24:24It is Dansby, Nate Knows ball, Excel Sports management.
- 24:28So same, same place. So like, I think that's a little
- 24:31bit of like a hey, we've done this before.
- 24:33We've had we've had big, big contract conversations with your
- 24:38group before. I think it's super, super
- 24:42important for the Cubs zoo at least try.
- 24:45But at this rate, it's like, I don't know, man, Cal Tucker may
- 24:49have to ride this one out. He may have to ride this one out
- 24:52because like we're the double S already looking good.
- 24:58He's hit, he's gotten close to 40 double SA few times in his
- 25:02career. You know, the home runs are in
- 25:04that 30 range. I know a lot of it is depending
- 25:08on like the way the winds blowing in Wrigley and it just
- 25:14depends. But like the fact that you're
- 25:16off to this good of a start in April in Wrigley, like it's
- 25:22you're setting the foundation for what's going to be a really
- 25:25good summer. You know, when it's warm there
- 25:28and it's like full on feels like baseball season in Chicago.
- 25:34And who knows, maybe he gets to that point where it's if you're
- 25:39in double digit home run territory mid-May, who knows
- 25:47what he's going to do. You know what I mean?
- 25:49We could be talking in the swipes, like he can swipe some
- 25:54bags. I don't know if he gets to 30,
- 25:59but like 20/20/20 is for sure in play here.
- 26:08I don't know. I don't know.
- 26:10It's just I, I think it's the fact that he is like the
- 26:12leading, the leading free agent this offseason.
- 26:16If there was, if it was a different year and you had other
- 26:19names in the mix, like maybe that changes the equation.
- 26:23But I think it's he's like the clear cut #1 free agent this
- 26:27offseason makes extension hard to imagine.
- 26:35I'll feel you, but great start. Speaking of a great start,
- 26:40Corbin Carroll this 2025 season so far, according to database
- 26:48hit slashing 329 four 10699. He's got 6 homers, 16.
- 26:56And this was before today's game.
- 26:58He he swiped a few bags, I think got him base 6 homers, 16 runs
- 27:03scored, 16 ribbies, one stolen bag.
- 27:06Again, I think he he got like two or three today.
- 27:08So that's already up there. 202 weighted runs created plus one
- 27:14point 1F WAR. Yeah, he went one for five, two
- 27:20runs in an RBI today, man. He's got AI believe A10 game
- 27:31hitting streak and his on base streak to start the year is at
- 27:3618 games and he had a Grand Slam on Tuesday and I think that was.
- 27:43Hit three stolen bases today. Yeah, it was the IT was the day
- 27:47after you. You took up your sword for him
- 27:54with the World Baseball Classic, Talk with the roster.
- 27:57Talk goes out the next day. Crazy Grand Slam.
- 28:01He's got the. Crazy.
- 28:03Gave him the Nate bump. Told you, man, kind of pissed
- 28:07that I traded him, but yeah, dude, little, well, big, big
- 28:13mechanical adjustment. I'm sure if if you've watched
- 28:15anything from Corbin Carroll and you're not living under a rock,
- 28:18you've seen it. The hands have been brought
- 28:22lower and further away from his body and I'm a big fan of that.
- 28:27You see a lot of hitters that just try to have some clearance.
- 28:32And I think I remember like him dealing with like a lot of
- 28:35shoulder issues his rookie year and last year.
- 28:39So you got to assume that like shoulders start to affect that
- 28:44that approach in mechanics a little bit.
- 28:47Jason Hayward's like a famous one who destroyed shoulders
- 28:53early in his career and it's just like it it hindered the way
- 28:56he did stuff. So I'm glad to see that this
- 28:59this adjustment has worked in his favor.
- 29:02We knew that the rest of the skills were there, like the the
- 29:04on base is is insane. The swipes are insane, but like
- 29:09the fact that he's brought back the power man, I'm telling you,
- 29:14This is why I'm high on the D backs this year.
- 29:16He's a big reason for it and fact that he's returned to that
- 29:20rookie status of what he was doing that year.
- 29:23I mean, you're like this guy's going to have MVP boats at the
- 29:27end of the year, so look out and they're doing this without can
- 29:33tell Marte by the way, he's been on the shelf for a little bit.
- 29:36So he's coming back. Just a really good lineup, man,
- 29:43Really good lineup. I like the haircut, by the way.
- 29:45It's I like. The Yeah, the.
- 29:48Lord far quad was just it only. Happened.
- 29:51I was I was blown away. The people, the the amount of
- 29:54people that couldn't see it. They're like, I don't know what
- 29:57you're all going on about the Lord far.
- 29:59Like look at him, dude. Look at the old haircut.
- 30:02Tell me that's not Lord far quad.
- 30:04What are we even doing? I mean, I know there's some
- 30:07silly comps made out there, but I was, I mean that.
- 30:10Was spot on. Spot on.
- 30:12What are we doing? Speaking of spot on guy who's
- 30:16spot on with his location and pretty much everything else.
- 30:20Hunter Green. Hunter Green's last 14 starts
- 30:25dating back to 2024 is according to running from the OPS.
- 30:31Running from the OPS. I like that 85.1 innings pitch.
- 30:36Again, this is last 14 starts dating back to 20/24/85 and 1/3.
- 30:4210.23 KS per 92.3, two walks per 9251 FIP A3F4.
- 30:52His one O 5 ERA over that span is the lowest in all of
- 30:56baseball. They finished the tweet with
- 30:59we're witnessing something truly special from a top tier arm.
- 31:03Dude these game logs. Can we just discuss these game
- 31:07logs here? Real quick on the season?
- 31:11Let's I'm difficult of of seeing in my later years.
- 31:18Let's get to zoom in here. First start of the season. 6
- 31:25innings, 7 KS, 1 earned run. Next start, 6 2/3 zero earned
- 31:32runs, nine KS. Next start 5 and 2 thirds. 1
- 31:37earned run, 5 KS. His start from this week against
- 31:41the Braves. 5 innings, 0 earned runs, 10 KS.
- 31:48Now excuse me. Nope, that's absolutely wrong.
- 31:51That's Chris Bassett's numbers, who we're going to get into
- 31:53next. First start of the year.
- 31:56No, listen, no, honestly, even better.
- 31:58Even better. Even better.
- 32:00All right, let's just. Here we go.
- 32:03Hunter Green. First start of the Year 5
- 32:07innings, two earned runs, a KS. Next start 7 innings, 1 earned
- 32:14run, 8 KS. Next start 8 and 2 thirds, 0
- 32:20earned run, 7 KS. And then against the Pirates, 7
- 32:23innings, 0 earned run a KS. All right, it's more like it
- 32:30already had a 1.5 war. Whoa, But you mentioned one stat
- 32:39to me. Well, a couple stats that are
- 32:41really standing out to me. The the strikeouts per nine.
- 32:44That's that's we're used to this, right?
- 32:47Like we knew that this was in the tank.
- 32:50Now we're starting to tailor in the control a little bit.
- 32:53The walks per nine are down, way down.
- 32:56Well he's all a baseball and WHIP with a .578 craziness.
- 33:02His ERA plus is 438, which, yeah, I mean, that's that's
- 33:07silly. That's actually crazy.
- 33:10The walks for 9. I mean that's, that's where like
- 33:12it, it jumps out to me 20223.420233.9 last year, 3.4
- 33:20this year so far, 1.3. So the control is just
- 33:26ridiculous right now. We knew the strikeouts were
- 33:28coming. This is kind of how you have to
- 33:32pitch in that ballpark. Can't let guys get on and you
- 33:38can't get, can't get beat by the long ball.
- 33:41And all of a sudden in that ballpark, it's it's a big
- 33:45difference. So what he's doing is insane.
- 33:51I hope, I hope health is on his side.
- 33:56Has yet to make more than 26 starts in his career and has yet
- 34:01to break the 150 inning mark in his career.
- 34:04I know it's young and still kind of figuring out who he is, but
- 34:07like, if this is what he is and this is the route he's going,
- 34:12you're going to start to eventually get into territories
- 34:15that are a little uncharted, right?
- 34:17And when he starts getting into 170 a 180 a 190 innings, if he's
- 34:21healthy and at that velocity, you just hope that this can can
- 34:29could be a good story and doesn't end negatively because
- 34:34at this rate, yeah, there's a good chance he's looking at us.
- 34:38I young maybe. I feel like he's for sure going
- 34:44to start the All Star game though.
- 34:46Who? Who picked Who picked me
- 34:50straight? You just traded for him today.
- 34:52Yep, sure did. Absolutely Fleece job of a trade
- 34:55Hold off. Hey, a heist.
- 34:58Well, when the person comes back saying, actually, you know what,
- 35:02send it. What do you want me to do?
- 35:04Not send it. I'm going to send it you.
- 35:06Got to do what you got. To do, man, I got to do what I
- 35:09got to do, it's terrible, terrible.
- 35:13You know who hasn't been terrible?
- 35:15Chris Bassett. Threw four starts, 23rd, 23 and
- 35:19a third innings. 31 KS. Leads all a baseball with an ERA
- 35:23of .77 and has a WHIP of one O 7.
- 35:28I won't read you game logs. Yeah, well, not that I read you
- 35:31his game logs so I won't go through those.
- 35:34But yeah on the year 2 and O, as I mentioned, Lois ERA and all of
- 35:40baseball among qualified starting pitching and Leeds MLB.
- 35:45You thought Hunter Green's ERA plus was good.
- 35:47Leeds all of baseball with an ERA plus a 517.
- 35:51Don't even, quite frankly, don't even know how that's really
- 35:54mathematically possible, but. Pitching Seth, it's.
- 35:58Crazy I it makes makes no sense who who was involved in the
- 36:03trade that you said was a fleece.
- 36:04So let's just go ahead. Oh my.
- 36:07Well, let's. There's no way this continues.
- 36:10I had him last year in fantasy. We all know what Chris Bassett
- 36:12is. I.
- 36:13Had him in fantasy I believe last year too.
- 36:15Because I dropped him because it's a nightmare.
- 36:17It's that's not true. It's a roller coaster.
- 36:20I, I, I like what he's doing. It's impressive so far.
- 36:25I don't expect it to last. I don't why not.
- 36:33I just don't. I think we know what he is.
- 36:37I would. I did pull up his numbers
- 36:38though, so let me pull it back up.
- 36:39Boop, boop, boop, boop. He's 36 for one for two.
- 36:49His strikeouts for 9 are way above his his career average.
- 36:57His career average is an 8.4 case per nine.
- 37:00So far this year he's at a 12. I don't think you just suddenly
- 37:06figure out swing and miss stuff at 36.
- 37:11I'm going to go ahead and say. I'm going to be fair, Nolan Ryan
- 37:14was doing it when he was like 60, so.
- 37:18He also hasn't given up a home run yet.
- 37:20Maybe Chris Bassett is our generation Zolan Ryan.
- 37:23Who's to really say? Yeah, no, this is this ain't
- 37:28going to last. Sorry.
- 37:34Good thing you traded in Moy. You sold high.
- 37:39You sold high. Speaking of trade, in a way how
- 37:47this guy is still playing baseball.
- 37:50I'm I'm glad that my my take held up.
- 37:54You didn't think this guy would see a baseball field ever again
- 37:57after his glove throwing incident.
- 38:00Jorge Lopez, reliever for the Washington Nationals, currently
- 38:05at the moment suspended for throwing at Andrew McCutcheon in
- 38:14this. Series.
- 38:15Did you watch it? Yeah, it didn't look good and he
- 38:18didn't. He didn't respond the way a guy
- 38:21that's apologetic. It's a McCutcheon would.
- 38:25Yeah, I mean, come on, What? What a weird, what a weird I I
- 38:32can't ever imagine being mad at that guy.
- 38:34Well, he hit I, I think he hit Brian Reynolds like the AB
- 38:38before. That I get.
- 38:41OK, well. That's that's a separate
- 38:44conversation, but hits Brian Reynolds and then throws it
- 38:47Mccutchen like whatever, whether it was intentional or not, it
- 38:52was in US. It was in the area that you're
- 38:54just not supposed to throw at guys unless no, you know what?
- 38:57I'm not even going to say unless I'm not going to even promote or
- 39:00advocate that it just didn't look good.
- 39:06And then he's he's sort of making his way to home plate him
- 39:09and Koch, I think sort of jawing off a little bit.
- 39:13I think even the bench is cleared.
- 39:14Was that the game that I I saw? Yeah.
- 39:16The just this guy, this guy stinks.
- 39:22This guy stinks. Did I mention though, he was
- 39:25suspended for for three games? He, as you would expect, is
- 39:28appealing. But take away here, don't throw
- 39:32a couch like whatever. Throw literally anybody else.
- 39:35If if you want to join Nate's team and say, yeah, get away
- 39:38through Brian Reynolds, be my guest.
- 39:40But I think we can all collectively agree that Koch is
- 39:43not the guy. Koch ain't the one.
- 39:45Is not the guy, but. I don't understand it.
- 39:47I didn't watch the game, but it's just, you know, certain
- 39:52antics that you can't get away from, so I did.
- 39:57Maybe Trevor Bauer's team has a spot open.
- 40:00I did. Apparently he got, I saw
- 40:03something today, he said. He got kind of knocked around in
- 40:06his start in Japan this week. Yeah, I mean you.
- 40:09Got to wonder when you start, when does when do you start
- 40:13losing steam? You know what I mean?
- 40:15Yeah, when's, when's the bit end?
- 40:17It's it's yeah, we're all done. No, but I in in terms of Lopez,
- 40:24I did see some people come to his, albeit sarcastic defense,
- 40:28but they're like, what? How much can you really expect
- 40:30from a guy that can't find the strike zone?
- 40:32And to their point, they may be on to something because in his
- 40:35response after the game, he did say, I apologize for everything.
- 40:39I didn't make any purpose pitch there.
- 40:41I've been trying to find my way with my delivery, been trying to
- 40:44find my way through the whole season.
- 40:46It's brother. We've played like 20 games.
- 40:49It's really miserable to have that happen.
- 40:51I regret what just happened. Nah.
- 40:56I'm not buying. It I mean, if you if you stink,
- 41:01you stink. That's true.
- 41:03That's the take away here. If you lack character, you lack
- 41:06character. I'm coming, my boy cuts.
- 41:11Yeah, that's again take away. Don't throw cuts because then
- 41:18the baseball gods aren't going to be happy with you because
- 41:20it's going to result in a O'Neill Cruz Grand Slam later in
- 41:25that inning as it did in that game, giving the Pirates A61
- 41:29win. So yeah, just don't upset the
- 41:33apple cart, Jorge. This may be the last time you do
- 41:37such a thing because I don't know how much.
- 41:39I don't know how much longer you've got in this game, dude.
- 41:42I really don't. What a fall off.
- 41:45What a fall off. He was part of that nasty pen in
- 41:48Baltimore and then ended up in New York, ended up in
- 41:53Washington. I think there was even a team in
- 41:56between there. Cubs.
- 41:58Was it the Cubs? I think it was a cub.
- 42:02Unbelievable. Twin.
- 42:04Yeah, what a fall off. Twin was where the the glove
- 42:07throwing happened, right? Or is it the Mets?
- 42:09Mets, Yeah. Move along, call Trevor, see if
- 42:16he's got a spot open for you. Speaking of Trevor, former
- 42:19Dodger, the Dodgers closing the book here.
- 42:22Dodgers will be hosting Dodger Stadium that is will be hosting
- 42:26the 2028 Olympics that was announced earlier this week.
- 42:32Baseball and softball will return to the Olympics after not
- 42:38being included in the 2024 Paris Games.
- 42:42Any thoughts there? Any thoughts more importantly on
- 42:46potential impacts it has on the MLB landscape?
- 42:52Because I did see where Manfred. Was in the Olympics.
- 42:55Right, Yeah, I I saw where Manfred was quoted as saying
- 42:58something, the effect of like we're looking into it about
- 43:02letting, letting guys from MLB consider consider it.
- 43:10You don't. We have ours.
- 43:13We don't need the Olympics. The WBC is on the rise, man.
- 43:15Like, I don't even know why we want it back into the Olympics.
- 43:18Yeah. I I understand like let these
- 43:20let college kids do it again, let right, you know what I mean?
- 43:24Like that's electric. You let AUSA college team get
- 43:28after it like. College minors even.
- 43:32Yeah, yeah. Like I, I don't know, I'm, I'm
- 43:36just, I'm kind of out on it. Like I, because you're only set
- 43:40up for failure, right? Like the USA team in basketball
- 43:43is like, if you don't win gold, you're like, how?
- 43:50How? Yeah, right.
- 43:54But then if you win it, you're like, well, duh.
- 43:56You host your country hosts the greatest league in the sport.
- 44:03You've got Kevin Durant on you. He's like your 10th guy off the
- 44:06bench. I mean, what are we doing?
- 44:08It's yeah. So I I I don't know.
- 44:11I'm kind of I don't love it. Softball, Cool, keep it.
- 44:15Baseball, like I make it. Make it for college kids.
- 44:20Like I I don't like it during the summer.
- 44:23I don't like the idea of my team with very real, you know, ripple
- 44:31effects If if my guy leaves for a week or two, like I don't like
- 44:37it. I'm with you.
- 44:39Yeah, like it. I will say though, if the World
- 44:42Baseball Classic had not picked up as much steam as it had in
- 44:46the last. Then maybe. 5678 years,
- 44:49whatever, then maybe because at the end of the day, like it is
- 44:53the Olympics. That's a huge deal, but I don't
- 44:57know, there's just yeah, it the the momentum of the WBC has the
- 45:03the steam is picking up and the intentionality that it has is
- 45:07really the the biggest thing for me.
- 45:09Like this is like this is for baseball.
- 45:13Let's like, let's not forget the Olympics left out baseball the
- 45:17last time around. The World Baseball Classic is
- 45:21intentional in its effort to grow the international landscape
- 45:25of the sport. The Olympics are like, oh, we
- 45:27could do with or without whatever, and there's a reason.
- 45:31The rest of the Olympics is about amateur status.
- 45:35I don't understand why it it doesn't work the same for our
- 45:39our major sports. I just love what what the WBC is
- 45:46doing. Like I, I agree, as we've
- 45:48mentioned, we we went to the last one, one of the coolest
- 45:51baseball events I've ever been to.
- 45:53And I can't help but think that this next time around,
- 45:57especially with judge in the mix and if you can get a guy like
- 46:00Harper in there and add to really kind of fill in some some
- 46:06gaps, some shortcomings we have on the last roster, get a little
- 46:10bit more star power in there. And now that the guys are seeing
- 46:12like, oh, shoot, like people are buying into this and like this.
- 46:16Yeah, like it's, you're also not going to catch like the, I don't
- 46:19know how Olympic qualifiers work like as a country.
- 46:24I don't know if it's like a purse sport thing or like, hey,
- 46:30let's say Sweden is, is qualifying for three or four
- 46:34different events. Does that automatically get them
- 46:38into the baseball side of things as well?
- 46:40You know what I mean? Like, and I doubt there's a
- 46:45whole lot of Swedish baseball players who are are going to be
- 46:49able to do it, you know what I mean?
- 46:50And then you have like other countries like the Dr. pretty
- 46:55sure the Dr. is like really only known for baseball.
- 46:57Like are they not qualifying for the other sports?
- 47:05Do you like you see what I'm saying?
- 47:07Like what if, what if countries that are so prominent for
- 47:11baseball players aren't even qualified to compete in the
- 47:15Olympics? And then you have USA who's
- 47:18always going to qualify for stuff and then like Japan, who's
- 47:21always going to qualify for stuff.
- 47:23Like you're not even getting like the full the full exposure
- 47:29to all the baseball talent the way you are already do for the
- 47:32WBC. So I just, I don't see how it
- 47:36would be anything good for baseball, especially with it
- 47:41being in the middle of the season.
- 47:42That also lines up for another CBA agreement year, isn't it?
- 47:47I think 2028 is. That's interesting.
- 47:55I really, really hope that doesn't affect things.
- 47:59I don't. We don't need another delayed
- 48:01start, my man. No, that was not fun. 2026 set
- 48:06to expire on December 1st, 2026. Oh.
- 48:11I was getting my even numbers mixed up.
- 48:13It was 6 not 8. All good, but.
- 48:18That is probably going to be a part of the conversation.
- 48:21Sure. Speaking of dates, the Rays do
- 48:29not like April 15th. I don't know if you saw this.
- 48:31Haven't won on April 15th in 15 years.
- 48:36They've only been around so long.
- 48:38That's crazy. I don't know.
- 48:41I don't know what they've got against Jackie Robinson.
- 48:44That is, as we know Jackie Robinson.
- 48:46They. That's tough.
- 48:47They don't like it, apparently. I don't know.
- 48:50I mean, I'm not going to make any accusations, but something
- 48:55going on, something going on down there.
- 48:57But yeah, to the people that are like slow day at the slow
- 49:00Newsday at the office, it's like, dude, literally if you pay
- 49:04attention to baseball, even remote like you, you see, Well,
- 49:07I mean, I guess if you're somebody like me who's
- 49:09constantly kind of, you know, like looking for for headlines,
- 49:12things to to mention on the pod, you you see one outlet shared
- 49:16and then another outlet shares that they're talking about it on
- 49:19the broadcast. Things of this nature and that
- 49:21nature. It's like it, I'm, I'm not just
- 49:24sitting here like looking for random factoids like that.
- 49:27But yeah, anyway, yeah, it was made, made it that headline made
- 49:32its rounds on on April 15th and stocks were able to take care of
- 49:35business to make it 15 years without a win on that date.
- 49:41Last thing here, Ken Griffey, junior, have you seen all this
- 49:45stuff with the Masters? I saw an interview clips of an
- 49:48interview, is that what you're referring to?
- 49:51Dudes, dude's a a menace behind the lens.
- 49:55He got he got some incredible shots of Rory at the end.
- 50:00Oh yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, yeah, that's the
- 50:03whole ultimately the whole reason I brought it up is his
- 50:06whole photography thing. Dude, him and Randy just.
- 50:10Yeah, dude, him and Randy apparently just taking over the
- 50:14the retired MLB Hall of Famer photographer industry by storm.
- 50:23Check out those pictures. Check out those photos that he
- 50:25got if you haven't it guy's incredible and he he is he it
- 50:31doesn't seem like he spares any expense for equipment to the
- 50:34guy. The freaking thing was like, I
- 50:37mean, it was like the size of a cannon.
- 50:41But anyway, just thought I'd I know your big golf guy thought
- 50:45thought I. Don't know, I'll have to find.
- 50:48He did an interview that was like, I think it was that that
- 50:53Ryan Clark podcast. You seen that one?
- 50:56Yeah, yeah. Fairly controversial at times,
- 51:00but I think he was he talked a little golf on that one too.
- 51:04And yet there was like a cool story with Nolan Ryan too.
- 51:10I think that was the one I was thinking of.
- 51:12Gotcha. I didn't know they had pictures.
- 51:14I mean shout out to it's just side quests.
- 51:17Dude, it's crazy. Like I'm like one of the
- 51:20greatest ever play the game. I'm in the Hall of Fame and now
- 51:23I'm going to go take like award-winning pictures.
- 51:25It's crazy. Side quests.
- 51:27Anyway, that'll do it. Let's get out of here.
- 51:31We'll see you guys. Hopefully we get back on normal
- 51:34schedule. We'll be hopefully back Sunday.
- 51:39Well, Sunday's Easter, so I don't know.
- 51:40We'll see, yeah. Maybe not then.
- 51:42Maybe, maybe Monday, who knows, we'll let you know, you'll hear
- 51:44from us soon. But unless you got anything
- 51:47else, so if we get out of here. Yeah, let's just get out of
- 51:51here. I'm with you.
- 51:55Yeah. Do you have your initials on my
- 51:57hat or do you have my initials on your hat?
- 51:59Is that an Mr. Yeah. What's going on there?
- 52:03No. No rivals.
- 52:05This is a new hat. I got a dude, I got a hat
- 52:07sickness. I'm only wearing hats like twice
- 52:09now before I get a new hat. It's it's this train is not
- 52:14stopping. No, I'm just collecting them.
- 52:18I'd like that one. I love this one.
- 52:20I got this down in Tennessee when we when we're down there
