- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: So, welcome in everybody, it's rare that we get together on a Sunday, but it's only once a year, it only once since 2019, we're doing one of these pods, which is the Oklahoma Sooners are officially in on the bracket headed to the college football plan.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_01]: Not that we didn't know that, but it's officially official.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_01]: Got the whole series on S.I.
- 0:31[SPEAKER_01]: Crew here.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Friday is actually wrapping present, so I...
- 0:34[SPEAKER_01]: Other than Brady, we got the whole squad here, right?
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: Chad would hang in at here in more.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: We've all been working hard all day.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: Got the main man, John Hoover, up in the 99 minute hoop.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: Everything settled in.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: I know that it's been a busy afternoon for the four of us.
- 0:47[SPEAKER_01]: Let's do this.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: Let's play off.
- 0:50[SPEAKER_01]: Let us do it.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_01]: Indeed, we will have to travel much farther than Norman, which our Carson Field is, Carson, how have you enjoyed your first selection Sunday with the series on our side crew that actually matters.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: A busy Sunday that I've had in a good minute, but thankfully no game yesterday, so feeling very energized got some coffee with me right now.
- 1:09[SPEAKER_00]: Just been writing the energy drink wave slash just the energy from getting to cover the play off.
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to be spectacular.
- 1:15[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:17[SPEAKER_01]: should be awesome, because it got the great rain able into with us as well.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to be able to get you through today or the NFL happening is going to be too all over the place for you the background.
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think I can survive.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_03]: I actually haven't been watching football today after a lot of football yesterday.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_03]: Just sort of tinker around in the garage and trying to get some stuff done.
- 1:39[SPEAKER_01]: Very nice, and because of that football issue too, a lot of writing.
- 1:43[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, we've all been, yeah, one in the same there.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: Because of all that football we watched yesterday, we came in to selection Sunday with out a ton of drama on the Oklahoma front, right?
- 1:53[SPEAKER_01]: BYU gets smoked by Texas Tech, Alabama, gets smoked by Georgia.
- 1:58[SPEAKER_01]: That kind of blitzed out any of the, is all you're gonna get bumped out of hosting possibilities, all that stuff.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_01]: And so it, guys, it just came down to simply this.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he was in.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he was going to be the eight seed.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: Who are they going to square off against?
- 2:13[SPEAKER_01]: And we had gone through all the scenarios like in our group chat and we mentioned two teams over and over and over again, is it going to be another game?
- 2:21[SPEAKER_01]: Is it going to be Miami?
- 2:22[SPEAKER_01]: Is the committee going to like figure itself out right at the end or we're going to still be in this weird mismatch and
- 2:28[SPEAKER_01]: Notre Dame's going to come, even though it should be Miami, guess what, Alabama apparently it doesn't matter if you play an SEC Championship game and lose, it doesn't matter any of that, because the Crimson Tide stayed put at number nine, which means for the second time in as many seasons, Alabama will come to Norman America to play.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_01]: Because this game is going to be on a Friday night, oh, you get to the Friday night game, seven o'clock in front of the world, it's technically not going to be twice against the groups at the time within a month, because they last played in November, November 15th, December 19th, but boys, who I'll just start with you, it's very, very rarely, I feel like I'm genuinely shocked when we get to like a selection Sunday thing, and when Alabama's name came up, much like the Heather Dish video, I gasped.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: I was like, oh my gosh, they're just going to roll the, we're going to do the rematch, okay?
- 3:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I feel like they're gonna, it's exactly what I was getting ready to mention was how there's reaction with this right here And that wasn't my reaction, I was just like, huh, bam, okay, okay, I didn't expect that
- 3:31[SPEAKER_02]: Here's, I don't know, I've tried to domesticate house flies so I can put them on the wall in the college football playoff selection committee and then they can report back to me.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_02]: This one today told me that the rationale in the selection committee room was that we screwed BAM a last year, we can't screw BAM up again, back to back, we can't.
- 3:51[SPEAKER_02]: Miami did beat Notre Dame head to head.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_02]: Notre Dame went to the College of All Playoff title game last year.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to be the Irish we screw over this year.
- 3:58[SPEAKER_02]: That's what my fly told me.
- 4:00[SPEAKER_02]: That was on the wall.
- 4:01[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know if I'd buy that, but you know, he's been pretty reliable so far.
- 4:04[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to be something like that, guys.
- 4:06[SPEAKER_02]: You know how it is.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_02]: They manipulate and massage the the symptom to get to the cure, right?
- 4:15[SPEAKER_02]: And it's just like that's that's
- 4:16[SPEAKER_02]: kind of backwards, but that behind closed doors, how about we do like the ACC does in their replay reviews and we open that thing up and we put cameras on there and microphones on everybody and then we get to the bottom of what the real rationale is that's what I want to see.
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: I want to see some transparency on the CFP.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_03]: The next thing I think their process would change significantly if they knew they were being recorded.
- 4:43[SPEAKER_03]: And I'm all for that.
- 4:44[SPEAKER_03]: I've watched more ACC games this year than in a long time, only because of that.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_03]: The replay review would be fantastic, but I think the truth would get lost in it and they wouldn't even be speaking at behind those closed doors.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_01]: The next season big brother is just going to be the college football playoff committee and all that goes.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, were you as stunned as maybe the rest of us were when Alabama popped up on the nine lines specifically?
- 5:12[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, and I think it's because I thought they were awarded a layup yesterday.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_00]: Just family looked bad.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: That's an easy.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: Okay, we dropped them one spot.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_00]: That that avoids two first round rematches in the first round.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: But there are still two first round rematches in the first round with OU Alabama and an Ole Miss 2 lane.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought I thought they would make it a lot different than it looked.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: I thought they might bump and end the six flip them with Ole Miss just based on strength
- 5:42[SPEAKER_00]: avoiding one rematch with two lane there, then I thought they would as I said, Bump Bama down to number 10, avoid the hold to buckle between Notre Dame.
- 5:50[SPEAKER_00]: Looks like a much better football team than Miami, but Miami won.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Notre Dame would come to Norman.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: I thought Bama would go to, I guess in that scenario, Ole Miss.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_00]: So a little surprised in how it all unfolded, but it's going to be a heck of an environment.
- 6:05[SPEAKER_01]: I'm just ticked off Abraham because I found I didn't have to work really hard for another day in one.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: The very very famous photo from the north end zone, looking to the south end zone of the American flag, covering the field, the stripe, all that stuff from the 2012 game.
- 6:18[SPEAKER_01]: I found a really good picture of Sam Bradford looking across the line of scrimmage, barking out an audible when Oklahoma thrashed Miami the last time they were in Norman and in the end it's just like
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, man.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_01]: We have a couple of pictures of this thing last year.
- 6:31[SPEAKER_01]: You don't have to search too hard to be like, oh, the last time Alabama was in Norman because it was check notes senior night a year ago.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's it's crazy.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_03]: I wasn't maybe as stunned as as some of y'all were at that.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_03]: Because, you know, last year they didn't they tried not to penalize teams for making the
- 6:55[SPEAKER_03]: Alabama had beaten Georgia earlier in the year.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_03]: That obviously, you know, enhances their resume significantly.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_03]: It wouldn't have surprised me, had Alabama got left out, but the way it happened.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_03]: I think the biggest gripe that I have is that last week they said that head-to-head was a factor with Notre Dame and Miami and they were in the same
- 7:17[SPEAKER_03]: group of teams that were being discussed.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_03]: And I know that they're saying, well, be why you lost.
- 7:23[SPEAKER_03]: So that took them out of that group and, you know, then head to head.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_03]: But the fact is, neither my amateur Notre Dame played this week.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_03]: Nothing changed in their purview.
- 7:36[SPEAKER_03]: Heck, not even, you know, any of the teams at Notre Dame played, certainly played this weekend as well.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_03]: So it was just madness, I think, you know, just more fuel for the conspiracy fire.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, I understand why Notre Dame is so upset, not going to a bowl at all.
- 8:00[SPEAKER_03]: apparently, along with Iowa State and Kansas State, a little different reasons there, but, you know, I think in the end, they probably got the right teams just based on what happened, like you said Ryan a lot, you know, Miami went ahead to head, they deserve it if they're right there.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_03]: It's the process that they got there with that I have a problem with.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_01]: And this is something that I know, Abraham, you and who I believe as well, went and did like the training thing.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_01]: It's a very, very beginning.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_01]: Way, way, way, way back, when going into what?
- 8:35[SPEAKER_01]: The 2014 college football season, which was the first year of the playoff and they talked about, that's 2015.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_02]: And it was my partner that you were very trampled.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_02]: Abraham, did you do one of those two?
- 8:48[SPEAKER_03]: I have not done one, but I spent a lot of time talking with Bill Hancock.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_03]: basically you know went through that process.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_01]: And it's something to that, um, for those that care, those that don't, they basically take, they look at teams in groups of four and take like votes and things like that.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what the exact method of, uh, ranking teams like that, but that is like a, uh, a scientific way that it's supposed to like eliminate bias stuff like that and that they take groups of four, which is where you get into April like the, hey,
- 9:21[SPEAKER_01]: Compared, yes, no, okay.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_01]: Well, if they're bumping up against each other, well, you can always lean back on.
- 9:26[SPEAKER_01]: Well, we're actually looking at groups of four, we're supposed to just the 11 V12 in the end.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_01]: But Ryan, you have done this this poll before, not to see if people, but like the A people at some point.
- 9:36[SPEAKER_01]: You do have to take a step back and go.
- 9:39[SPEAKER_01]: Hey, this nine and 10, they played, and they have the same record, and maybe it means I'd take a step back and reorder a couple things, because I think B.O.A.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_01]: is better than one, than I either put them above or below.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_01]: But I just don't understand how we don't get to a point where you can just like attack that with some common sense as opposed to, it's almost like you're being too beholden to the process and while the process's supposed to eliminate bias, we also shouldn't have a process that strips out common sense as well.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think that's the biggest thing, what you just said.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_03]: Shouldn't have a process that strips that common sense.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_03]: For me, I approached polling more of the way that the college football playoff does with like what's the, the word they use in a basketball tournament scrubbing.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_03]: As you go through it, I sort of did a rough order and I really did it every week.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_03]: I tried not to look at what I had had the week before because resumes change, things like that, I'm not a fan of the traditional AP voting method where teams, if they lose, have to drop down or teams, if they win, have to move up because
- 10:50[SPEAKER_03]: You know, if a team is ranked number two and number one beats them, especially if it's a close game, they could still be the second best team in the country.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_03]: And I think that's an extreme example, but I mean, heck, we saw it with Ohio State and Indiana.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_03]: I don't think there's a lot of people that would argue that Ohio State isn't at least the third best team in the country based on what's happened this season.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_03]: You know, to have a situation where we could go, my amy was too slots behind Notre Dame, and all of a sudden, just because BYU does something that BYU had already done in the season, which is getting, you know, beaten soundly by Texas Tech, then that changes things.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_03]: I'm sorry.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_02]: It just seems ridiculous to me.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: the college football playoff selection committee has done a disservice to college football by omitting no-terdam who want their their last 10 games in a row by an average of 20 whatever points they blew everybody out the national runner up from last year okay the single biggest brand in the sport
- 12:07[SPEAKER_02]: is not gonna play in a ball game at all because the CFP screwed the boot on this one big time.
- 12:15[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think a lot of times.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_03]: you go with what's going to cause the least amount of drama or gives you, gives people the least amount of ammunition to argue.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_03]: And you know, I get Miami, you know, Lasso's games didn't look great, but in my mind, even though Alabama made the SEC title game, they're the ones with the win look great.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_03]: Obviously, you know, beaten Georgia is as good a win as there was in college football
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: Alabama did not really look like a playoff team to me late with obviously the loss to Oklahoma.
- 12:56[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, to start off the season, the loss to a Florida State team that ended up, you know, finishing under 500, they could go to a bold now with Iowa State and Kansas State being out.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_03]: But, uh,
- 13:09[SPEAKER_03]: You know, I think Alabama had the least argument to get in, although I don't not sure the ACC deserved a birth, but I think Notre Dame, the way that they're playing, and it's not just that they've won, you know, 10 games in a row.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_03]: it's the way that they're playing and just knock in the doors off people.
- 13:29[SPEAKER_03]: Jeremiah loves a fantastic player.
- 13:31[SPEAKER_03]: I was really pumped to see Jeremiah love versus OU's run defense.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: That would have been fun.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, I think this is going to be, you know, people get riled up about two lane and James Madison both in the playoff.
- 13:46[SPEAKER_03]: To me, that's not the agent for change here.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_03]: The agent for change
- 13:56[SPEAKER_01]: To Notre Dame, I would say, if you look at Tulane and you look at J.M.U., what do those two teams have that you don't, a conference, weird.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, now to Notre Dame as well.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_01]: Now, Rostelter did put out there that Notre Dame, there is a memorandum of understanding that they have like legislated for them to not be left out in the future, moving forward.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_01]: We can dive into that in the off season.
- 14:18[SPEAKER_01]: We cover Oklahoma.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_01]: They're playing that Alabama team that you just talked about, Abraham, and that I think is one of the things.
- 14:25[SPEAKER_01]: Regardless of what happened with the committee, the brackets, the bracket, Carson when you look at it, this Alabama team, as much as we talk about teams changing throughout the years.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: This Alabama team,
- 14:37[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma already has a win over him and I know that in the immediate aftermath when people were yelling about Oklahoma Yeah, it's weird.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_01]: We don't care about the points on the board, but this Alabama team does not look the same as this Alabama team That Oklahoma play on November 15th.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: I was just on Kaylm to force zoom
- 14:54[SPEAKER_01]: just like Brip Vennibles was asked about Ginger Williams and Armace and Thomas and and Jake Michael was to get to it a second.
- 14:59[SPEAKER_01]: Kaylyn Dubor was asked about, I think I counted up nine different players that he was kind of so, so pretty, pretty dodgy as far as we'll have to see the process of stuff like that.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: You look at the negative three rushing yards against Georgia.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_01]: This looks like an out of amateur team that has trended down and
- 15:17[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly, since the Oklahoma game, but they weren't super impressed, we can sell a shoe, which is a big part of why I thought it would come up with a real shot there.
- 15:24[SPEAKER_01]: Is this maybe the team of the Notre Dame Miami, Alabama, the Oklahoma actually wanted to get in the end?
- 15:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think Notre Dame honestly would have been the worst matchup for this OU team with how dynamic they are in offense.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_00]: They have a competent defense even if it's not to the level of a team like BAM was they still have a good defense.
- 15:44[SPEAKER_00]: I think Notre Dame is the more complete team then BAM at this point.
- 15:49[SPEAKER_00]: Bam was weird though because in the middle of the season they looked like they could be in that conversation with the best of the best The offense was playing great the defense looked really solid against Vanderbilt and Missouri before before the injury bug in their season with downhill So I mean their peak of the season was really high and that shows what they can be
- 16:07[SPEAKER_00]: But I mean, OU games since they just haven't been amazing.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_00]: Ty Simpson's looked more in a fishing, which is really shocking considering how good he was in the first seven, eight games of the year.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_00]: He hasn't been amazing.
- 16:19[SPEAKER_00]: Ryan Williams hasn't been amazing.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_00]: Jeremy Bernard's really been the one concept for them.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_00]: but it's I do think it's a better matchup than they would have gotten with Notre Dame certainly.
- 16:30[SPEAKER_00]: Miami it kind of depends on what version of Carson Beck you get on that day.
- 16:35[SPEAKER_00]: Is it the version that throws four picks or the one that throws zero in 350 yards?
- 16:40[SPEAKER_00]: So that one could have gone either way I think but I if I'm a sooner fan I think I like this matchup.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: It's the big question every year, John, that we get to stuff like this.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: You want to be playing your best football in late December, early January.
- 16:57[SPEAKER_01]: Alabama has a chance to reclaim this, but right now it might look like that they peaked during that stretch of what was at five straight games of a ranked win, five straight ranked win or whatever it was that they ran through in September and early October.
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's, that's, I was going to mention that when, when Ryan Aberset, they have the least argument.
- 17:15[SPEAKER_02]: They also have the in one way, one really good way.
- 17:18[SPEAKER_02]: They have the most argument to be in the playoff field because of that five game winning stretch, unprecedented, never been done before, five straight weeks, ranked teams, beat all five of them.
- 17:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's pretty impressive.
- 17:29[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that's the best we've seen from Alabama all year, including the win over Georgia, obviously.
- 17:35[SPEAKER_02]: because boy they didn't look like the same team when they played Georgia last night.
- 17:40[SPEAKER_02]: They did not look like the same team when they played Auburn.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know, we'll see.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_02]: We'll see where these teams have come from, Carson, you mentioned Ty Simpson.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_02]: I think Oklahoma did something to him.
- 17:51[SPEAKER_02]: I think Oklahoma changed him because he was leading the nation in efficiency and he was the front runner for the Heisman.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: And here comes Oklahoma and it's like pick, fumble, you know, and he's a different quarterback.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that was interesting the way that played out down the rest down the back half of the season.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_01]: And Amber, that was something to the, again, I just came from the Kayland Aborzum.
- 18:12[SPEAKER_01]: That was one of the, it was one of the delicately-worded questions, but basically to Kayland Abor, it's like, hey, have you had a chance to conference with Ty Simpson and try to, what's the process like, of starting to rebuild that confidence?
- 18:25[SPEAKER_01]: Because I think who's exactly right?
- 18:29[SPEAKER_01]: That's a guy that,
- 18:30[SPEAKER_01]: doing everything the life of scrimmage so decisive in command of everything.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: Suddenly, you start to see a little bit of a crack against Oklahoma with the turnover is then last night, part of it was because he was under a ton of dress against Georgia, but he was making bad decisions under dress with Arab passes, whether it ended up being an interception or just some dangerous ball or some balls that like are close to intentional grad ed.
- 18:51[SPEAKER_01]: I think that we've seen maybe the worst of time since since the Florida State game since Oklahoma maybe put some stuff on tape that he's not great dealing with.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_03]: And with their offense, their inability to run the ball consistently, I mean, at least Oklahoma has, you know, John Matier, who's able to run and change a little bit of dynamics there with what defenses have.
- 19:14[SPEAKER_03]: It's not the same for Ty Simpson, and when that rushing game isn't there, it exacerbates problems in the passing game, and I think that's what we saw, what we've seen out of Alabama over the last month.
- 19:28[SPEAKER_03]: I mean, what they finished with last night, minus three rushing yards, I believe.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_03]: So this is a good matchup.
- 19:35[SPEAKER_03]: I think for Oklahoma, but you can't let him get his confidence
- 19:43[SPEAKER_03]: you know, in some ways, but I think just looking toward this game, I think it's going to be big for OU to get started early, get, keep the fans fired up and, you know, not let Ty Simpson sort of gain his footing, because if he does, then we've seen that he's got the talent to be able to, you know, break free for some, some things, and obviously when you've got Ryan Williams
- 20:13[SPEAKER_03]: you know you've got a chance to put up some big numbers didn't start really even against Oklahoma or he put up you know fairly big passing numbers just had a couple of mistakes
- 20:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and something you mentioned there though, Aver, the fans, and something I wanted to get to as well.
- 20:27[SPEAKER_01]: We all know this, this is not like a, I wonder what it's going to be like.
- 20:30[SPEAKER_01]: Going to December 19th, it's going to be loud, it's going to be rocking.
- 20:33[SPEAKER_01]: We know this, and here's something that, if you head to the website, by the time this is out, Oakmasooners on si.com, the place to be.
- 20:41[SPEAKER_01]: The great Brady, Trenton, rolled through something that I know that we have all talked about whispered about something that's been,
- 20:46[SPEAKER_01]: uh just like yelled at amongst Oklahoma fans in the past buckle up see if any of these sound familiar boys the sugar ball that was played new year's day 1950 against LSU that was in Louisiana the 65 gator ball against 40 state the 68 blue bonnet ball against SMU back to
- 21:10[SPEAKER_01]: Sunball 81, later that year against Houston, PS4 against Arizona State, Orange Bowl against Miami, Hancock Bowl against Texas Tech, National Championship Game against Florida State, in Miami, Sugar Bowl, National Championship Game against LSU, in New Orleans, BCS National Championship Game against Florida, in Miami, Cotton Bowl in 2013 against A&M, cheese at ball against Florida State, New Orlando.
- 21:32[SPEAKER_01]: Finally, the sooner it's get a home game, guys, they get played.
- 21:35[SPEAKER_01]: people that have to come to the state of Oklahoma instead of being road wars and headed out that something that has been littered all throughout Oklahoma's bull history, especially the BCS.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_01]: It always felt like Oklahoma, John was going to have to go win a title on the road.
- 21:50[SPEAKER_01]: And now their path is going to be
- 21:53[SPEAKER_01]: Alabama in Norman and then if you look beyond that and Indiana team this and everyone's team the country got the best way to the country but that's in a rose ball there grounds for the big tin but oh usually in the rose ball way more recently twice than Indiana has a game in the peach ball where you're not playing Georgia in the peach ball and then Miami's not going to make it to the national championship games you have to worry about that like Oklahoma for once gets not only a home game but doesn't have to play in someone else's backyard job.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_02]: You've already counted out the canes, huh?
- 22:21[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I was looking forward to.
- 22:23[SPEAKER_02]: My Emmy and my Emmy, it's got to happen.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_02]: It's got to happen.
- 22:27[SPEAKER_02]: But no, that's a good perspective from Brady because he's been kind of nursing that story for a couple of weeks now.
- 22:34[SPEAKER_02]: If this happens, guys, this is going to be an interesting way to play it out with the home game.
- 22:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I know you say we don't have to sit back and wonder what it's going to look like.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: But I do.
- 22:44[SPEAKER_02]: I wonder what it's going to look like.
- 22:46[SPEAKER_02]: If Friday night,
- 22:48[SPEAKER_02]: Friday night, um, wow, in Norman Oklahoma, I think there's going to be some state championships playing that day, or they'd done Ryan, would Abraham, would you say?
- 22:58[SPEAKER_03]: uh... i think there will be i think there will be the way that uh... the the schedule works uh... but not looked at the high school uh... not the same exact audience but there may be some you know some people don't want to be other sure but uh... and you know it'll be interesting to see if there is if they alter schedules get off of uh... friday there
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: Friday day would be better than Friday night if you want to watch the sooners in the football playoff.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_02]: That's going to be electric, man.
- 23:27[SPEAKER_02]: Listen, I was there for the LSU game and those people were beside themselves with insanity.
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: I've been there for the biggest games over the years as you guys know and I just holy cow, never won this big.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_03]: I do have to nitpick a little bit with Brady there, though if we're going to count Houston in the sunbowl, that's 750 miles away, it's pretty far.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know, wait, what do you want Brady to do?
- 23:58[SPEAKER_01]: Just because the US doesn't know how to put together a country like everybody else.
- 24:01[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, Texas should be like three states that is what they want them to do.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_01]: You know, California should be chopped up.
- 24:08[SPEAKER_03]: You said in their own backyard.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_01]: Well, it's Texas.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_01]: There's nothing else there.
- 24:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's just a bunch of just crap for like, especially way over there in what's Texas.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: Crack your words.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: Backyards of bigger in Texas for sure.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_02]: I've seen them.
- 24:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it'll be going to head over because I know that you're prepping Biggest games at Memorial Stadium.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_01]: I know that in the Vittables area we've gone, is this the biggest game in the Vittables area is that so much so that I'm like tired of that.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, obviously there's been, you know, one versus two matchups and, you know, top five matchups, a lot of things like that, you know, bedrooms and, you know, Notre Dame coming here a couple of times and obviously, oh, you know, Nebraska, but this one to have a true elimination game, you know, one team season is over, one team goes on at home.
- 25:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think certainly takes a cake.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_03]: you know who who's uh you know been around this thing even more than me uh with the most electric atmosphere gaylord family Oklahoma moral stadium has been.
- 25:20[SPEAKER_03]: I look to that OU Notre Dame game, the same night that James Harden got traded away from the Thunder as probably the felt the biggest atmosphere wise coming to Norman, but this one will be off the charts for sure.
- 25:41[SPEAKER_02]: I would say the 2008 Texas Tech game immediately jumps to mind and the reason for that is is very clear Bob Stoops and he began the week with that his press conference but almost calling out the fans.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: Almost.
- 25:57[SPEAKER_02]: He didn't go all in like, I, those guys are not laughing, but he made reference to depth on the line.
- 26:03[SPEAKER_02]: He, he made reference to the fans several times that we, as, you know, sometimes we've had a lot of success here and fans don't get as loud as they do at other stadium.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_02]: See, we kind of push that envelope.
- 26:13[SPEAKER_02]: But then when he said, we need to hear a loud ruckus.
- 26:17[SPEAKER_02]: We need a ruckus crowd.
- 26:18[SPEAKER_02]: I was just like, that's what we need.
- 26:21[SPEAKER_02]: this place needs to to boil over and it did it did that night it was a special night um second I would rank I wasn't at the Notre Dame game but I know it was big time I watched it on TV second though I would rank um Tennessee last year Tennessee last year was unbelievable
- 26:39[SPEAKER_03]: Hey, maybe, you know, you talk about that Texas tech game, you know, maybe get a Daniel Connor, come down for it, you know, maybe a live performance of jump around.
- 26:50[SPEAKER_02]: Come on down, that would be fun.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: He lives here in Tulsa.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_02]: Exactly.
- 26:54[SPEAKER_03]: You just ride down with you, who?
- 26:56[SPEAKER_02]: I love it.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, yeah, I'll take about a little gestations I stopped at and all that stuff.
- 27:02[SPEAKER_01]: But here's the issue.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_01]: That's what's constant song and everyone will get yelled at for to the end of time, despite the fact that it was constant a relevant right now.
- 27:10[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be it'll be really interesting though, Carson.
- 27:11[SPEAKER_01]: You've been on the field for all these ones this year, certainly the Alabama game last year.
- 27:16[SPEAKER_01]: I think what who've mentioned is correct that in the big 12 era, Oklahoma spans outside of the
- 27:24[SPEAKER_01]: since like 2004 on have needed to be called out to deliver the biggest of big time atmospheres generally or they're like waiting for like DDSP to get to captain and bedlam and then it like ramps up.
- 27:38[SPEAKER_01]: That's not really been an issue within the SEC.
- 27:41[SPEAKER_01]: Certainly like actual games, in Norman helps with stakes and things like that, but you go back to the Michigan game this year.
- 27:48[SPEAKER_01]: I remember you talking about that one being super electric.
- 27:51[SPEAKER_01]: The end of the third quarter started the fourth quarter gets Ole Miss after Xavier Robinson kind of got loose.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_01]: I'm expecting just absolute chaos and carnage until the in-stating P.A.
- 28:02[SPEAKER_01]: stops everyone and plays shout and tries to make sure that only the 80 year olds in the crowd are catered to.
- 28:09[SPEAKER_01]: It just killed that off the playlist play young people music and let the students be loud, but that, you know, not everyone can run a big time stadium like, oh, you can.
- 28:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, no, it's got to be the biggest that it's been all year since joining the SEC this probably could be the biggest game ever played in the Norman life you said Ryan I do think that the elevated competition playing SEC teams weekend week out helps I've been really impressed and I I'm spoiled to have been to a lot of really good college atmospheres.
- 28:40[SPEAKER_00]: for only having just over 80,000 seats.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_00]: It is allowed when you, I would expect it to be day near at its allowedist against Alabama.
- 28:49[SPEAKER_00]: This is a team that, oh, you kind of has their number for how prestigious of a program, Bama is, oh, you've got them beat at this point and Bama can't really figure them out.
- 29:00[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that plays a part into it.
- 29:03[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you want to keep building this mantra as giant slayers.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's going to be poppin'.
- 29:08[SPEAKER_01]: It should be a ton of fun and that like we said, we've seen this before, so guys, I want to play a game of fact or fiction with you guys when it pertains to Oklahoma and Alabama.
- 29:18[SPEAKER_01]: This year 2321, we've heard you guys have listening, have read all the like stupid national narratives where it's like, I understand that like yards and stuff when you're trying to do a deep dive at some point, the score has to matter.
- 29:31[SPEAKER_01]: So in case anyone forgot, Oklahoma actually won that football game against Alabama in Tuscaloosa and there were some key moments, some key facts.
- 29:38[SPEAKER_01]: figure stats, all that stuff, and I want you guys, we'll rattle through them all here.
- 29:43[SPEAKER_01]: It was this real, is this something that's gonna be able to be replicated on December 19th, or was that maybe an artifact of one particular game and Oklahoma needs to overcome that in another area of the game because that's something that might level out.
- 29:59[SPEAKER_01]: The first one, obviously a big thing in that game, Oklahoma, Winston, Turnover, Margin, they win that in a big, big way.
- 30:06[SPEAKER_01]: On one hand, you can say, and I probably agree to a certain extent, that turnover lock is kind of random at times, but I tell you guys this.
- 30:15[SPEAKER_01]: Brent Minibles and Kaylandabore have matched up twice at Oklahoma and Alabama.
- 30:20[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma has won the turnover margin six to one in those two games.
- 30:26[SPEAKER_01]: Two pick sixes, one by Kip Lewis a year ago, one by Eli Bowen.
- 30:31[SPEAKER_01]: Who have I'll start with you, but this will go to everybody.
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: The turnover margin is that fact, is that something real, is Oklahoma going to win this turnover margin again?
- 30:38[SPEAKER_01]: Or is that something that they can't really rely on that?
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: And need to rely on something else on December 19th.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_02]: The Kent rely on it, of course, not what five games without a take away defensively to start the season, so they can't rely on it, but I think what you've seen is starting with the South Carolina game, was it?
- 30:58[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, the South Carolina game where they started getting takeaways that can't stay to get the head one, but then they get a couple of picks against South Carolina and they get a big one against obviously the runback at Tennessee and then the 87 yarder by
- 31:14[SPEAKER_02]: and then you get picks against Missouri, you get important picks against LSU, you're pressuring the quarterback, you're knocking the football out of there.
- 31:22[SPEAKER_02]: It unlocks something for Oklahoma's defense.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: Can they count on it?
- 31:25[SPEAKER_02]: No, can they expect to create some more havoc in turnovers?
- 31:30[SPEAKER_02]: Absolutely, 100%.
- 31:31[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what Alabama has done a turnover-wise since that game, or before that game, they were before that game, they were leading, if I'm not mistaken, leading
- 31:43[SPEAKER_02]: They were leading the conference in turn over margin so turn over margin.
- 31:47[SPEAKER_03]: I think that we're leading in both takeaways and the few us giveaways But it's always three three after the OU game So what what would that have been?
- 32:00[SPEAKER_03]: Six three over their last four games
- 32:02[SPEAKER_03]: in, you know, on the negative side for.
- 32:05[SPEAKER_02]: So they've been, you know, they've been a little bit sloppy down the stretch.
- 32:07[SPEAKER_02]: I think it unlock something for a use defense and I think it may have unlock something in a bad way for for Alabama's offense.
- 32:15[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, going into that, Alabama's someone in turnover margin.
- 32:18[SPEAKER_01]: And then the other one we had tackled with Tennessee was never one of the conference in Fumble's force going into that.
- 32:22[SPEAKER_01]: Games, that was the two kind of back to back turnover's Carson.
- 32:25[SPEAKER_01]: Is this turnover margin something that Oklahoma can depend on here on December 19?
- 32:30[SPEAKER_00]: I'm with who in the sense that you can't rely on it, but if the sooners do win the turnover battle, I think they have a very good chance to win this game without good the defense is how not great the offense has been, they still have a dang good kicker, and they've shown that given short fields, they can be more efficient, we in a little bit more on X Robinson.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_00]: So I do think it's important, but
- 32:52[SPEAKER_00]: For this team to feel the most comfortable about winning this game and advancing to the Rose Bowl, I don't think it's something you can just lean back on and say, like, oh, we're going to win that or fine.
- 33:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think that just has to be a symptom of a complete effort.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_00]: Good defense.
- 33:06[SPEAKER_00]: Good offense.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_00]: And ultimately, you come out winning the turnover battle.
- 33:10[SPEAKER_00]: If that happens, if magically OU has an offense and they win the turnover battle, I think this game could be decided by 10 or more.
- 33:21[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think it's gonna be close.
- 33:24[SPEAKER_03]: I think I would be sort of surprised if OU sort of runs away with this thing just because Alabama has plenty of talent.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_03]: I think Caleb and the Borys are really good coach and we'll make some adjustments.
- 33:36[SPEAKER_03]: I think for me, I look for Brent Metables to mix some things up, bring some different pressures, things like that.
- 33:46[SPEAKER_03]: That was so big in forcing those turnovers, not just the guys who got the innerceptions, but the way that they were able to force those things.
- 33:55[SPEAKER_03]: For me, the biggest question is which down material do we see?
- 33:58[SPEAKER_03]: Do we see the geometry that is smart and just sort of manages the game and avoids turnovers and lets the defense do their thing and do enough or do we see the geometry that we saw some in the last game.
- 34:14[SPEAKER_03]: where he tries to force some things and put some balls in bad positions and creates turnovers the other way.
- 34:22[SPEAKER_03]: So to me that that's the biggest key to that question of who wins the turnover margin there is the OU offensive side.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I would say you can't maybe rely on the touchdowns.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: I think almost gonna force turnover still.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: If Armace and Thomas can get back into this one and that's something that Brett Minimal said, no ginger Williams, ginger Williams has had shoulder surgery.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: He's out.
- 34:45[SPEAKER_01]: Minimal's was pretty mum on Jake Mike or Armace and Thomas.
- 34:49[SPEAKER_01]: Though, I would say Oklahoma has full faith and Jake Mike would be in back.
- 34:54[SPEAKER_01]: uh... can tell you that that is uh... he obviously was dealing with the that was labeled as an infection that took him to the hospital during elixir week our mason i think it would be a little bit closer but if you get our mason back local force three turnovers that was without our mason Thomas and i think we've seen tysonson maybe second guess himself a little bit i think this is going to be a big two week run up for the sport psychologists
- 35:17[SPEAKER_01]: Tuscaloosa and inside the Swiss Center, who can psych their quarterback, not out, but who can hypnotize them back to whatever they were playing in September for material.
- 35:27[SPEAKER_01]: I'm simply pre-entry for tight Simpson, maybe just pre-o Oklahoma, a pre-allissue even, because uh, tight Simpson was on a stretch there, like four or five straight games where he had a strip sack, uh, against him, because he could not hold onto the football.
- 35:39[SPEAKER_01]: That leads us to uh, the other bit of this,
- 35:42[SPEAKER_01]: The thing that Ken DeBore was asked about.
- 35:44[SPEAKER_01]: Number one was other of the turtled overs, what's the one area that you go back to and say, man, if you, this has to turn around.
- 35:51[SPEAKER_01]: And what he said was starting field position.
- 35:54[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma cratered Alabama on special teams.
- 35:57[SPEAKER_01]: Now, big part of that guy's was because Oklahoma's rushing defense made Alabama one dimensional.
- 36:03[SPEAKER_01]: So, Abra, I'll start with you.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_01]: We'll go the other way here.
- 36:06[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, he's run deep and being able to win that special team's hidden yardage battle, that's something that's going to be able to lean their hang their hat on because we've seen how big that is, especially if you can just the games that that is good, all come up feels like they need two first rounds in there in Sandel territory.
- 36:22[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, you know, you look at Isaiah Satania has changed a couple of games with big returns.
- 36:29[SPEAKER_03]: There, they've had some good returns elsewhere, and then obviously the rest of the special teams with Grayson Miller with, you know, Tate Sandell.
- 36:40[SPEAKER_03]: Like you mentioned, generally, OU is in a really good spot there.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_03]: And yeah, I don't see Alabama moving the ball much on the ground against Oklahoma.
- 36:51[SPEAKER_03]: The soon as front seven has been great all year, but especially against the run, that's why I was really looking forward to that Notre Dame.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_03]: Match up, because Jeremiah love versus OU's run defense, I think would have been maybe the most fun thing to watch in the first round, but I think this, if you're OU, you feel really good about this.
- 37:11[SPEAKER_03]: A team that can't run coming in against probably one of if not the best run defense in the country.
- 37:20[SPEAKER_03]: those turnovers can come much more easily, the mistakes, and again, even if your offense isn't great.
- 37:28[SPEAKER_03]: Brent Minble talked about this today, their offense hasn't gained a ton of yards or whatever, but they've been able to have success at certain points, and especially take advantage when the defense puts him in really good positions.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_03]: And if they're able to do that, then they've got a really good chance of heading to Pasadena.
- 37:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I agree with that.
- 37:51[SPEAKER_00]: I think I think that this run defense has shown time and time again how good it really is.
- 37:56[SPEAKER_00]: And that I think the best example of that was how they played against Missouri on moderati obviously arguably the best running back maybe second behind Jeremiah love but one of the best in the nation they were excellent in stopping him granted Missouri couldn't do much throwing the ball so they didn't.
- 38:13[SPEAKER_00]: have an option to have another dimension with their offense really.
- 38:17[SPEAKER_00]: But stopping him in that game forced so many puns on their own side of the field and really gave oh you good fuel position multiple times.
- 38:27[SPEAKER_00]: We have a kicker as good as Sandell that's huge.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously that one drive that's started from about 35 yard line.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_00]: Oh, you cached in for a touchdown to Giovanni Gibson.
- 38:37[SPEAKER_00]: So just shutting down the run can be huge even if Tyson's and even though he's in kind of this rough patch He's gonna hit his throws.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_00]: He has some stars at receiver So they're still gonna get theirs in faces of this game even if oh you plays and it's best defensively But stopping the run playing efficient special teams.
- 38:57[SPEAKER_00]: I do think goes a very long way
- 39:00[SPEAKER_02]: So, Devor wants, he would choose better field position, you said Ryan, over being able to establish the run, being able to get four yards of carry.
- 39:11[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, he had talked about that, the question was anything like turnovers, obviously, that's the number one thing.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_01]: But other than that, let's take that.
- 39:17[SPEAKER_01]: And the first thing he just went to was starting field position and what that did as far as setting up Oklahoma's offense, and also the flip side, putting them in holes, which
- 39:27[SPEAKER_02]: I think that like if he had talked longer the next thing would have been like and if we're a little bit out of ours that maybe we could have thrown some different looks around the ball but that that was where he kind of like you know that makes sense because if the the field position thing is is a little bit wonky because they fumbled upon return and they you know give the give the football right back to them um after a big long flip of the field so that's that's a little bit skewed
- 39:53[SPEAKER_02]: Well, if I were him, I would really want to be able to run the football, but I don't know if you can count on doing that because against Oklahoma only four teams this year have surpassed 100 yards rushing against OU, four teams out of the out of the 12 that they played, and of those four only two of them went over 120 yards, and that was Texas and Michigan.
- 40:15[SPEAKER_02]: So, that should tell you right there and nobody went over 146.
- 40:19[SPEAKER_02]: Michigan was the season high all year at 146.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_02]: So, that's what came on one run.
- 40:25[SPEAKER_02]: 75 of those came on one run and that's right.
- 40:27[SPEAKER_02]: That's right.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: So, you take that, you know, one simple run fit on the first play of the third quarter out of the equation.
- 40:33[SPEAKER_02]: And you're looking at Michigan under 100 yards and that'd be nine out of 12.
- 40:36[SPEAKER_02]: So, good point, Ryan.
- 40:38[SPEAKER_02]: But the whole thing about
- 40:40[SPEAKER_02]: I guess maybe just just the fact that he answered with, well, the fact that Flip 1 thing that we feel position tells me that he has no intention of running the football or being able to run the football successfully and he's basically given that card up.
- 40:53[SPEAKER_02]: He's laying that card down so you can have it.
- 40:55[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to try and be better at throwing.
- 40:57[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to try and be more explosive in the return game.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: We're going to try and be more aggressive in takeaways and things like that.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think the thing with that is Kaylin DeBore feels like, you know, it's much more likely that they can create better field position by limiting returns, things like that getting exposed to players themselves.
- 41:23[SPEAKER_03]: on special teams, things like that, didn't run in the football.
- 41:27[SPEAKER_03]: I think, you know, Kaling aboard smart enough to realize maybe that that's a lost cause and don't chase ghosts a little bit with the running game.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_03]: They sort of are sort of like, oh, use offense.
- 41:40[SPEAKER_03]: It's different, but they sort of are what they are at this point.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_03]: You just got to work within the confines of that.
- 41:46[SPEAKER_03]: You'd love to be able to run the football, but there's nothing that Alabama has shown that says that they'll be able to do it.
- 41:54[SPEAKER_01]: And it leads to, I think maybe the biggest question in this game that's not like X-Factor stuff, which we'll get to here in a second, which is Oklahoma's rushing attack, actually was better than Alabama's this week, and they had zero yards while the Crimson Knight had minus three.
- 42:08[SPEAKER_01]: But the most important thing for Oklahoma's rushing attack is that two guys, Xavier Robinson, and Tory playlock,
- 42:14[SPEAKER_01]: We're hopefully in the training room all week long, getting every treatment imaginable, which is the way that we've kind of heard those two guys work.
- 42:23[SPEAKER_01]: You have to believe that that's what's happening.
- 42:26[SPEAKER_01]: John, when you look at it, is simply three weeks more health for Xavier Robinson and Tory play a lot.
- 42:32[SPEAKER_01]: Gonna be enough for Oklahoma to find that running in that they had in the second half against Ole Miss and had against Tennessee before.
- 42:39[SPEAKER_01]: Xavier Robinson lit hobbled or is this gonna be much like the first time
- 42:44[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma not to be able to move the ball on the ground against Alabama.
- 42:47[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be all on geometry or shoulder win Oklahoma's not putting the ball in the end zone on defense or something like that
- 42:53[SPEAKER_02]: I don't look for necessarily a big game by, just because he's healthy.
- 43:00[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to Xavier Robinson's healthy now, so he's going to tear up Alabama just like he did last year.
- 43:06[SPEAKER_02]: I think Alabama's defense is a little better than that.
- 43:08[SPEAKER_02]: I think it's going to be more of what we saw in Tuscaloosa, which is run by committee, run the football when you can with the quarterback, keep the clock moving, shorten the game a little bit.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_02]: don't pressure pressure the team's quarterback take away the football capitalize on take ways and feel position but offensively play smart play conservative don't throw the ball in the coverage don't throw the ball when you see that someone in the opposite jersey standing in front of your receiver.
- 43:38[SPEAKER_02]: Avoid what you did two weeks ago against LSU and John Mathier and that that running game such as it is patchwork if you want to call it that Should be fine now having said all that we've seen what Xavier Robertson can do when he's healthy against an Alabama defense I'm not saying it's not gonna happen.
- 43:55[SPEAKER_02]: It could
- 43:58[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I want to I want to see a lot of just versatility in the run game job material using his legs.
- 44:03[SPEAKER_00]: He's looked better at that in recent weeks.
- 44:07[SPEAKER_00]: Get them all mix it up between play lock and Xavier Robinson.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_00]: And then also utilize those short passes, whether that's a screen to Robinson or play lock or short passes to Tanya or Berks.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_00]: Just finding easy outlets of the running game like screen passes short passes RPOs.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: Just find ways to keep them guessing, because BAM will probably know at this point the deep ball hasn't been consistent, even the intermediate stuff hasn't been consistent.
- 44:33[SPEAKER_00]: But finding different ways to keep them on edge, I think that's a big, big factor in getting at least a little something moving against a good BAM of defense.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I mean, I think you look at, you know, oh, he's running game.
- 44:49[SPEAKER_03]: Yes, you need more out of, you know, Blaylock and Xavier Robinson, Blaylock, in particular, you know, you need more there.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_03]: But even if,
- 45:03[SPEAKER_03]: you know they're able to get the same thing from Xavier Robinson that they got in the first game and you're able to add play lock with the you know a little bit even you know he had four carries for one total yard and he got four yards on one so the other three carries uh you know not good at all uh there if they're able to get something
- 45:23[SPEAKER_03]: where you can just be able to stretch a driver to.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't have to be every drive.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_03]: You can just stretch a driver to.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_03]: Then you feel a whole lot better about what you got to come in there.
- 45:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's funny looking back at the first game, the stats.
- 45:43[SPEAKER_03]: You know, had the longest run for OU in that game?
- 45:46[SPEAKER_03]: Isaiah Satanya, a 21-yard run there.
- 45:52[SPEAKER_03]: Mix things up a little bit.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_03]: Do things that allow you to stretch the field in some different ways to keep Alabama honest a little bit defensively where they can't just tee off on John material.
- 46:05[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to be a lot of fun.
- 46:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'm excited to kick off this what would it be technically 12 day build for a between now and that Friday night primetime game.
- 46:23[SPEAKER_01]: We know that we have seen all the stuff that was mostly national people who decided they were tired of yelling at the committee for the Notre Dame Miami thing, so they decided to invent that somehow Oklahoma should not be in the college football playoff, and every Oklahoma statistic for the year has been put out there by Chris Felicke, like more ons that just do power ratings, instead of actually watching football games.
- 46:44[SPEAKER_01]: Brent Vittables very eloquently,
- 46:47[SPEAKER_01]: Today on the zoom he was asked directly by Chris Bineen.
- 46:50[SPEAKER_01]: He like hey, have you guys heard that noise and while print venibals Was like, oh, we just you don't focus on us on the inside.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_01]: He later referenced the fact that Hey, people have used you know analytics for our performance can sell a shoe, but ignored he basically said He did not say these words ignored what Alabama's offense sitting in sell a shoe, but he's like if you compare what you know We did against LSU's physically to you know some other, you know
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: teams that, you know, matter, I mean, I, he wanted to say Alabama so bad.
- 47:19[SPEAKER_01]: He's clearly heard the noise.
- 47:21[SPEAKER_01]: We, if you watch any of the post game stuff, whether it be from Tennessee, why is this game at night?
- 47:28[SPEAKER_01]: Because the suitors are in town, the Alabama, one shot, one kill, that, that kind of stuff.
- 47:34[SPEAKER_01]: We know that print venables master motivator.
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: This is going to be the
- 47:43[SPEAKER_01]: the home team and a college football playoff game, yet Britt Venables is going to be able to be in his bag fully about no one thinks you could win this playoff, no one thinks you deserve to be in this game, all that stuff.
- 47:56[SPEAKER_01]: It's hard to quantify, but what do you expect and who as far as Brent Venables motivator leading up to this bad boy?
- 48:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'm going to get my little fly that I've been training to go to Norman and get on the wall and see if he can hear Brent's pre-practice speeches that he's going to say, you're right.
- 48:15[SPEAKER_02]: It's going to be he's going to be digging down and he's going to be pulling stuff out, you know, he might pull out that number that I threw out a month on the conference holiday where I said you've been on teams that have played in rematches before conference championship games.
- 48:29[SPEAKER_02]: But your teams have never lost what's the secret sauce and he was like, oh wow for no, I didn't know that That's that he said for whatever reason we've been on the high side, okay?
- 48:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna turn that around.
- 48:39[SPEAKER_02]: He's gonna go my teams have never lost a game in a rematch situation because he guys like you And the way you all pay attention and the way you all invest and the you know, I can see him Really pouring it on heavy and the thing about it is this senior class Don't forget this senior class was his first recruiting class
- 48:57[SPEAKER_02]: And you got just like all these seniors that are here, Kobe, and Gentry, and Armacen, guys who have been with him for all four years, and they've pulled each other up.
- 49:06[SPEAKER_02]: They've lifted each other up.
- 49:07[SPEAKER_02]: They've dragged each other up when it's been, times have been tough.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_02]: Guess what?
- 49:11[SPEAKER_02]: We go from saying two of the last three years, Oklahoma has gone six and seven.
- 49:15[SPEAKER_02]: To now we're saying two to the last three years, Oklahoma's gone ten and two.
- 49:18[SPEAKER_02]: Venables message has gotten through to these guys.
- 49:24[SPEAKER_01]: It'll be interesting game because I don't know if he prepares this stuff or not, but he certainly is pushed the right buttons throughout November at least.
- 49:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think either when you look at like the Ole Miss game or the Texas game, that wasn't like, oh my gosh, Oklahoma came out flat.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_01]: What's happened in here, that was just Oklahoma couldn't run the ball against Texas and Ole Miss is like a really freaking good football team.
- 49:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, I think the way that this team has been able to handle success, I think it's been one of the biggest differences between this team and some of the others under Brent Venables, you know, they've been able to just to keep this sort of one day at a time, one game at a time, under dog mentality, each and every one of them.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_03]: even as they all of a sudden, you know, don't become, you know, turn away from being the underdog there at the end.
- 50:13[SPEAKER_03]: But, you know, Chapman going to back to the atmosphere question a long time ago, sort of ties in with the motivational theme that you're talking about.
- 50:25[SPEAKER_03]: How crazy will many men be if OU is ahead when it plays or, you know, in a position where they
- 50:36[SPEAKER_01]: It won't be that crazy because the older you fans don't know how to react to it.
- 50:39[SPEAKER_01]: Simple as that many men fantastic song for the season if no one knows the chorus It's hard for it to hit the fireworks will be great, but that's a need.
- 50:48[SPEAKER_01]: It's our effort.
- 50:49[SPEAKER_03]: Be fair.
- 50:51[SPEAKER_03]: I feel like I'm right in the wheelhouse of you know early 50 cent.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_03]: And, you know, I'm almost 50, so you should have a decent amount of people who can go nuts and we've seen the players just go absolutely bonkers when they play that one.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_03]: Certainly much better than, you know, shout.
- 51:11[SPEAKER_01]: As I said, there's a reason that they keep going to shout, and it's awful, and they should stop.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_01]: Carson, start talking before I get in trouble with some people that I know you.
- 51:19[SPEAKER_00]: There and up, yeah, I agree with what Abraham originally said there about this team, handily handling success.
- 51:25[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like this team does have a certain amount of swagger.
- 51:28[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't feel like that ever bleeds into the area of cockiness being overconfident at least I haven't seen that this year.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like this team has really learned a lot from those losses to Texas and Ole Miss.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: Games where certain things got exposed whether that was the run defense defending wiseener.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_00]: Whether that was some of the offenses performance against Ole Miss.
- 51:50[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like this team is pretty good at showing up areas that are struggling even if the general offense.
- 51:56[SPEAKER_00]: hasn't been just a powerhouse, hype-lying thing yet.
- 52:01[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like marginal changes have gone a long way for this team consistently.
- 52:05[SPEAKER_00]: Things that needed to be short, short-up, have been short-up.
- 52:09[SPEAKER_00]: And that gives me confidence that this will be a competitive effort that we see backed by as you guys said, a really hyped-up crowd.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_01]: dreams and nightmares.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_01]: This is where Oklahoma should be going.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_01]: That's assuming that like the conjugal play of you and lets them do stuff.
- 52:28[SPEAKER_01]: We know how this goes, right?
- 52:29[SPEAKER_01]: That you get a regional host and college basketball.
- 52:32[SPEAKER_01]: You can kind of do some of the things that you normally do and they're like, we must stop everything to play this NCAA sponsored video that everyone's going to boost.
- 52:38[SPEAKER_01]: So we'll see what all happens
- 52:41[SPEAKER_01]: there and it should be like we said a fun couple weeks of build up here national signing day in the rear view.
- 52:46[SPEAKER_01]: If you missed any of that stuff, open the suitors on a side dot com hit the football tab just scroll all of our national signing day content is there.
- 52:52[SPEAKER_01]: Oklahoma didn't stop either.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_01]: In the category of poorly timed announcements, uh, 27 four star defensive live in Elijah Harmon.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_01]: I understand what you're trying to do, have your day, maybe don't have your day on college football, play off selection day, because he announced that he's coming to Oklahoma, at least verbally committed to Oklahoma, bolstering OU's already after running 2027 class.
- 53:14[SPEAKER_01]: I'm one rated class in the country, maybe a 24-7 sports.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_01]: They've got two five stars and four four stars.
- 53:21[SPEAKER_01]: There's only one other team in the country that has More than that when you add up the four stars and five stars that's A&M with one five star and six four stars OU A&M tech kind of consensus wherever you're looking around the top three classes early early early on in the twenty twenty seven Class and as we talked about and and have written about and all that stuff There's always gonna be a weird sighty day for Jim naggy because he was coming on mid
- 53:44[SPEAKER_01]: recruiting cycle, Brett Vittables and the coaching staff having to recruit an uphill battle.
- 53:48[SPEAKER_01]: Well, Jim Nagy said last Wednesday, hey, I was sweating at the LSU game, too, because guess what, being able to put this Joshua, I play off low low and all the recruiting materials matters on top of all the NFL production, everything that Brett Vittables and this coaching staff have done.
- 54:01[SPEAKER_01]: They've got that rubber stamp there and it looks like they are already off and on their way.
- 54:06[SPEAKER_01]: Let me set this gadget for you guys here a little bit.
- 54:09[SPEAKER_01]: We talked about binables today as of right now, it's not game week, so the plan is not like on Tuesday to have like the binables are buckle press conference stuff like that.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_01]: We're going to get to talk to the players at some point in norm in this week when that gets scheduled, we'll let you guys know.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_01]: And then assuming the players are on Wednesday night, we'll be back here Wednesday for a normal pod wrap and everything that players said all that stuff if it's Wednesday.
- 54:29[SPEAKER_01]: We'll lose some stuff around moving targets.
- 54:31[SPEAKER_01]: Stuff like that.
- 54:32[SPEAKER_01]: Then we'll get into a game week.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know what they're going to do on Game Week.
- 54:35[SPEAKER_01]: The last time I'll you played on a Friday.
- 54:36[SPEAKER_01]: That was TCU, Black Friday, a couple of years ago.
- 54:39[SPEAKER_01]: Everything was just moved up a day.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_01]: So we did coordinators on Monday and said a Tuesday, all that stuff.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_01]: As we learn more, we will pass that along to you.
- 54:47[SPEAKER_01]: But as always, Oklahoma Sooner's on Si.com is going to be the place throughout the conference for Bob Playoff throughout Oklahoma's right here for all your content.
- 54:55[SPEAKER_01]: And then this is the playoff.
- 54:56[SPEAKER_01]: Then we'll turn the page to portal season and we'll be out in about in front of everything there on the website, Oklahoma Sooner's on Si.com.
- 55:04[SPEAKER_01]: Before we shut it down, have I missed anything boys?
- 55:07[SPEAKER_01]: It's almost playoff football time in Oklahoma, almost there.
- 55:13[SPEAKER_01]: Sorry to anyone who's graduation plans got wrecked by the cod football playoff.
- 55:16[SPEAKER_01]: Big time.
- 55:17[SPEAKER_03]: I just want to hear Chapman, I want to hear you talk about, oh, use musical selection for about 10, 15 more minutes.
- 55:23[SPEAKER_01]: I've got thoughts.
- 55:24[SPEAKER_02]: I was trying to divert when I went into playoff football time.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_01]: I was trying to divert off of that.
- 55:30[SPEAKER_01]: Now, I've got thoughts and so does every other student section in America.
- 55:37[SPEAKER_01]: And this is what Oklahoma needs to internalize.
- 55:39[SPEAKER_01]: Coach of all playoff is not a family atmosphere.
- 55:42[SPEAKER_01]: Your families can come, everyone's juiced.
- 55:44[SPEAKER_01]: You should be playing music that gets the student type because the student to the lattice people in the stadium and that filters out.
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: See how that works?
- 55:50[SPEAKER_01]: It's easy.
- 55:51[SPEAKER_01]: Everyone else has figured it out.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_01]: Maybe you should too.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_01]: And maybe I'll come up and have a trip up some atmosphere, but instead you'll get shout with the phones and you're gonna like it.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_01]: The smart lines will be cool though, and we'll have all that stuff.
- 56:03[SPEAKER_01]: Hopefully, we'll all be there in Norman, obviously.
- 56:06[SPEAKER_01]: Sounds like we're gonna have maybe two in the press box now instead of three.
- 56:09[SPEAKER_01]: So, good job, Ron.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_01]: I think that's true.
- 56:10[SPEAKER_01]: Trust me that he was 18, I think that they might rubber stamp that we will see in any way the people that do the music are another for up because you know have to be a one level farther removed from what's actually happening in America.
- 56:23[SPEAKER_01]: So got to put him in the ivory tower.
- 56:25[SPEAKER_01]: All right that'll be all we've got will be with you all the way through all this platform.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_01]: Which big thank you to who to avert a Carson Brady triathlete.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_01]: You can't see him but he's in the background slave in the way to everyone give up their Sunday to cover this
- 56:39[SPEAKER_01]: Submit the clock, be there, or be square, and normal America will talk to you much before then, but we'll talk to you then as well.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_01]: See you guys.
