- 0:25Speaker 2: I like the fact that Steve feels comfortable coming.
- 0:29Speaker 3: They have to hand out numbers to everybody. I get it.
- 0:31Speaker 3: Nobody should be wearing.
- 0:32Speaker 4: Thirty two seven.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Okay, really, come on, Like, what do you know about
- 0:36Speaker 2: the line?
- 0:37Speaker 3: To me, Devin McCarty is bigger than football.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Your argument, no one ever should be Devin mccordy. I
- 0:42Speaker 2: get that, but his number is different. You can disagree,
- 0:45Speaker 2: but you're wrong, but you can.
- 0:47Speaker 4: How do you find it? Fight over finances? You got
- 0:49Speaker 4: a billion dollars?

- 1:08Speaker 2: strong show. This is Patriot's Unfiltered.
- 1:11Speaker 6: Presented by Toyota's official website for deals by A Toyota
- 1:15Speaker 6: dot Com.
- 1:17Speaker 2: All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:22Speaker 2: at Jillette Stadium, and as we speak, the Patriots are
- 1:26Speaker 2: coming off the practice field. Will be joined shortly by Evan,
- 1:30Speaker 2: by Paul, by Deuce. They're gonna be coming in hot
- 1:33Speaker 2: because they're at the practice. I had to leave a
- 1:35Speaker 2: little early. I have other things to do, as you know,
- 1:37Speaker 2: but I'm holding it down until they get here. And
- 1:39Speaker 2: once they do, we will get into everything they saw
- 1:43Speaker 2: on the practice field. Drake May, Joe, Milton, you name it,
- 1:47Speaker 2: everybody that was out there. We'll get into all the
- 1:50Speaker 2: details coming up here on Patriots Unfiltered. We have a
- 1:53Speaker 2: late start today, as you know, two fifteen, so we'll
- 1:56Speaker 2: be here until four fifteen. Eight five five. Pats five
- 1:59Speaker 2: hundred is the he's taking a hotline. Web radio at
- 2:02Speaker 2: Patriots dot Com is the email address, and you know,
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'll just start it out. I was there early in practice.
- 2:08Speaker 2: First of all, it's a beautiful day here in Foxborough.
- 2:12Speaker 2: I think we deserve it. We had so much rain
- 2:14Speaker 2: leading up to the last weekend or so, but it's
- 2:17Speaker 2: been beautiful. I'd say, you know, on the warm side,
- 2:20Speaker 2: probably high seventies, sunny, just just a gorgeous day. Practice
- 2:26Speaker 2: look good. You know. I know a lot of people
- 2:28Speaker 2: when we first started going out to these OTAs, we're
- 2:31Speaker 2: a little worried about. Oh the pace isn't you know
- 2:34Speaker 2: that fast? It looked better back in the day. Oh
- 2:37Speaker 2: you mean it looked better when you had a coach
- 2:39Speaker 2: here that been here for thirty years. Okay, I get it.
- 2:42Speaker 2: But since then, I think, you know, as Gerard has
- 2:45Speaker 2: learned more, kind of got the feeling of the cadence
- 2:48Speaker 2: of his you know, assistance and the different units. I
- 2:51Speaker 2: think you can't tell anymore. I think it just looks like,
- 2:54Speaker 2: you know, any other practice we've seen in Foxboro. Other
- 2:56Speaker 2: than the cast of characters. I'm talking about the pace
- 2:59Speaker 2: of the practice, the way it looks, how structured it is,
- 3:03Speaker 2: how organized it is, you know units, you know sections,
- 3:08Speaker 2: and you don't see people standing around. I think evans
- 3:11Speaker 2: fears have been answered. When they're doing maybe eleven on
- 3:16Speaker 2: eleven's you got Drake may on another field doing seven
- 3:18Speaker 2: on seven, so he's not standing around, he's getting his
- 3:22Speaker 2: reps in. So things are looking good. Things are looking good.
- 3:25Speaker 2: How that transpires once a season starts, who knows. I
- 3:29Speaker 2: have no idea, but right now things look okay from
- 3:34Speaker 2: that standpoint, you know. Other than that, I think it's
- 3:38Speaker 2: been quiet on the transaction front league wide. The big
- 3:41Speaker 2: news this week was Justin Jefferson's contract, which is huge.
- 3:46Speaker 2: He becomes now the highest non quarterback salary ever in
- 3:52Speaker 2: the NFL. You know, so I don't know what it
- 3:55Speaker 2: averages out to, like thirty five million a year one
- 3:58Speaker 2: hundred and ten million garan teed for Justin Jefferson. So
- 4:01Speaker 2: that's huge. And you know, why do I bring that up?
- 4:04Speaker 2: Because I think the Patriots are going to be in
- 4:07Speaker 2: the wide receiver one market for a while. They're in
- 4:10Speaker 2: it now. If someone came available, I think they should
- 4:13Speaker 2: get him. They tried to get Calvin Ridley, not to
- 4:16Speaker 2: say that he's even in the same stratosphere at this
- 4:18Speaker 2: point in his career as Justin Jefferson, but I think
- 4:21Speaker 2: whether it's looking at brandonk or Tie Higgins or next
- 4:25Speaker 2: year looking at some veteran, I think that, you know,
- 4:29Speaker 2: that contract for Jefferson is going to come into play
- 4:32Speaker 2: for all the other wide receiver ones from this point on,
- 4:35Speaker 2: and it just you know, gives you the lesson that
- 4:38Speaker 2: the longer you wait, the more the price goes up.
- 4:42Speaker 2: There's no reason to wait on these contracts. It just
- 4:45Speaker 2: the price is never going to go down. So as
- 4:48Speaker 2: I speak, speaking of the price going down, it's it's uh, Mike, Mike,
- 4:53Speaker 2: do so deuce? What's going on?
- 4:54Speaker 4: What does that mean?
- 4:55Speaker 2: Sorry?
- 4:55Speaker 4: I got my hat on here, I look a little uh.
- 4:57Speaker 2: Yeah, you look a little Charlie brownish.
- 4:59Speaker 7: Yeah, a rock.
- 5:02Speaker 4: But anyway, make it a rock today?
- 5:04Speaker 2: Paul, you're looking good. You've been losing weight? Are you
- 5:07Speaker 2: on the Ozempics?
- 5:08Speaker 4: The baby blue?
- 5:09Speaker 3: What?
- 5:10Speaker 2: What's that?
- 5:11Speaker 5: I think I found it? You found I lost it?
- 5:13Speaker 5: I think I found you look good.
- 5:14Speaker 2: I hope it's for a good reason.
- 5:16Speaker 7: A lot of comment comments on his hat today.
- 5:18Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, yeah, he wasn't intention and the matching
- 5:21Speaker 2: shirt was not.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Well I know that that was intentional. Style to like,
- 5:25Speaker 5: you know, to dress myself intentional. Nothing to do with
- 5:29Speaker 5: Matt with Drake Man.
- 5:30Speaker 2: In the morning. Do you like actually say oh does
- 5:32Speaker 2: this match?
- 5:33Speaker 3: Of course?
- 5:34Speaker 2: Really?
- 5:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:36Speaker 2: Generally obviously I don't.
- 5:37Speaker 3: Generally I wear.
- 5:38Speaker 5: Jeans every day, as you know, so I you don't
- 5:40Speaker 5: have to worry about matching it. But I wouldn't wear like,
- 5:44Speaker 5: you know, a pair of blue khakis with you know,
- 5:47Speaker 5: like a blue shirts.
- 5:49Speaker 2: I would underwear underpants.
- 5:54Speaker 3: Brief.
- 5:54Speaker 7: You know, we're just breaking it down, all right.
- 5:57Speaker 3: So people, So did you get food?
- 6:00Speaker 2: No? I did past my lunch time.
- 6:03Speaker 5: Okay, so you know what all right?
- 6:06Speaker 2: Utah, Mike and I utah, give me two.
- 6:10Speaker 5: I was thinking of this place like it has sandwiches,
- 6:12Speaker 5: it has some pizza. Did they are they on sides?
- 6:17Speaker 5: They have sides like fries and onion rings and things.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Sounds delicious.
- 6:20Speaker 3: It gets pizza time.
- 6:21Speaker 7: Give it a try, give it a try.
- 6:24Speaker 2: To shut but people, people want to know what happened.
- 6:27Speaker 2: I left early, so I'm counting on you guys to
- 6:29Speaker 2: be my eyes and ears. Tell me what you saw.
- 6:31Speaker 4: All right.
- 6:32Speaker 7: So we got a lot of red zone work today
- 6:34Speaker 7: and third down which red zone, Paul, we always always
- 6:36Speaker 7: started today, and uh yeah, it look kind of like
- 6:40Speaker 7: it has the last couple of years.
- 6:41Speaker 4: To be honest, it wasn't.
- 6:43Speaker 7: It wasn't like the Patriots offense was lighting up the
- 6:45Speaker 7: Patriots defense. A lot of balls on the ground. Drake
- 6:47Speaker 7: May had a couple interceptions during competitive periods. He described
- 6:52Speaker 7: one of them, which we can get into, but uh,
- 6:56Speaker 7: you know, I don't want to freak everybody out because
- 6:57Speaker 7: this is no t as and YadA, YadA, YadA, But
- 7:01Speaker 7: not a lot of great connections. There were a handful
- 7:03Speaker 7: of good connections in the red zone, but overall, I
- 7:06Speaker 7: would say a clunky day for the offense.
- 7:07Speaker 4: Not a lot of chemistry.
- 7:09Speaker 5: And I'm going to go back to the Belichick adage
- 7:11Speaker 5: that he always preached about the time of year and
- 7:14Speaker 5: you know, about the teaching, and it was really sort
- 7:17Speaker 5: of on display. Like talking to kJ Osborne a little
- 7:19Speaker 5: bit after practice, a lot of the stuff they were
- 7:22Speaker 5: doing in the tight red zone, low red zone was
- 7:25Speaker 5: stuff that they just they're just learning. They're literally just
- 7:29Speaker 5: learning it on the you know, on the board in
- 7:31Speaker 5: the meeting rooms this morning, running it on air, which
- 7:34Speaker 5: by the way, it didn't go very well against air
- 7:37Speaker 5: when before they they got together for both seven on
- 7:40Speaker 5: sevens and eleven on eleven. So Mike is right, the
- 7:43Speaker 5: offense was clunky. It's a good word, like the ball
- 7:46Speaker 5: is hitting the ground a lot. But I wouldn't necessarily
- 7:49Speaker 5: read too much into it.
- 7:50Speaker 2: Okay, Evan, do you agree?
- 7:52Speaker 3: For the most part, I think the biggest thing that
- 7:54Speaker 3: I see right now is seven on seven looks different
- 7:57Speaker 3: than eleven on eleven when the line play starts to
- 8:00Speaker 3: get into it and then all of a sudden, you've
- 8:02Speaker 3: got Christian Barmore coming at you, or you got a
- 8:04Speaker 3: blitz coming off the edge. They're not picking things up
- 8:06Speaker 3: very well at the offensive line right now. I think
- 8:09Speaker 3: the biggest thing is that you have to wait till
- 8:11Speaker 3: the pads come on because you're not really right now.
- 8:13Speaker 3: You're blocking with your feet, you're not really actually hitting anybody,
- 8:16Speaker 3: So it's it's a little bit harder to block for
- 8:19Speaker 3: the offensive lineman in this setting. So we've seen this
- 8:21Speaker 3: before where the line looks really shaky and then it
- 8:24Speaker 3: does start to progress maybe a little bit. Also should
- 8:28Speaker 3: note you know a couple guys missing today. You know,
- 8:31Speaker 3: no Chukes of Korps for no mic on win, so
- 8:34Speaker 3: you're missing your top two tackles and you're going out
- 8:36Speaker 3: there and you're still trying to block guys. So there's
- 8:38Speaker 3: a lot of caveats to all this kind of stuff.
- 8:40Speaker 3: But I think the biggest thing that I see is
- 8:42Speaker 3: that seven on seven looks great eleven eleven.
- 8:45Speaker 2: To clarify, when you say block guys, there's no contact.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Right right, right, So we're not actually blocking guys, We're
- 8:51Speaker 3: just kind of shuffling our feet and trying to stay,
- 8:54Speaker 3: you know, in front of dudes, and eventually, like that's
- 8:56Speaker 3: gonna give way. Like it's not going to be, uh,
- 8:59Speaker 3: this pristine pot when you're playing like that. I think
- 9:01Speaker 3: the other thing that kJ Osborne mentioned, I know, we're
- 9:04Speaker 3: trying to not have everybody panic over the clunkiness I
- 9:08Speaker 3: think is a good word of the offense today. But
- 9:10Speaker 3: he mentioned that he played in this offense in Minnesota
- 9:14Speaker 3: for a couple of years early on in his career
- 9:15Speaker 3: as North Turner. You know, outside zone scheme and the
- 9:18Speaker 3: marriage of the run game in the pass game is
- 9:21Speaker 3: such a big part of it that until the pads
- 9:24Speaker 3: come on and the run game can start to take hold,
- 9:26Speaker 3: and then you get play action off the run game,
- 9:28Speaker 3: Like that's how they create a lot of what they
- 9:30Speaker 3: want to do. So you know it's gonna it's not
- 9:33Speaker 3: going to be a finished product in terms of judgment
- 9:36Speaker 3: until we see them actually running the football as an
- 9:40Speaker 3: emphasis and then play action and then he do all
- 9:42Speaker 3: the other bells and whistles.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Okay, how about the fluidity of the wide receivers and
- 9:46Speaker 2: I'm talking about mostly Poke and Bell.
- 9:49Speaker 7: I mean, how Baker, well, Baker, how are they looking? Yeah,
- 9:52Speaker 7: Baker was limited today. He warmed up and then he
- 9:55Speaker 7: was down on the lower field, so he didn't really participate.
- 9:59Speaker 7: That was a little the same Marcel's dial similar was
- 10:01Speaker 7: there for stretching but did not. So a couple of
- 10:03Speaker 7: rookies seems like a little bit maybe banged up, but.
- 10:07Speaker 4: Fluidity. I don't know, And that's question no. I mean,
- 10:10Speaker 4: I don't think.
- 10:10Speaker 7: I think the more I see Polk, the more I
- 10:12Speaker 7: feel like along Eleven Evans line of he's got to
- 10:15Speaker 7: he's got to play with some guys trying to tackle him.
- 10:17Speaker 7: He's not gonna show up with you know, live feet.
- 10:20Speaker 7: But I do think kJ Osborne had a pretty good day.
- 10:22Speaker 7: Haven't seen a lot from him over some of these
- 10:24Speaker 7: OTA practices, and felt like he was finally starting to
- 10:27Speaker 7: show up make some plays.
- 10:29Speaker 4: But a lot of rotation going on too.
- 10:30Speaker 7: I mean, you know, I haven't mentioned the offensive line
- 10:32Speaker 7: was kind of banged up, but you know it was.
- 10:34Speaker 7: It was kind of spin the dial no matter who
- 10:36Speaker 7: was a quarterback, who was you know, so all that
- 10:38Speaker 7: kind of like rep stuff. I mean, definitely was Drake
- 10:40Speaker 7: May getting kind of the second reps.
- 10:42Speaker 5: He got more reps today, I think than the other
- 10:44Speaker 5: practice that I see.
- 10:45Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, he was.
- 10:46Speaker 7: He was the second guy up in eleven's and seventh
- 10:49Speaker 7: was number two up.
- 10:50Speaker 4: Yes, and then the yeah and.
- 10:52Speaker 7: The eleven on eleven drill, the seven on seven drill.
- 10:54Speaker 7: You buried the league, Yeah, I didn't. But it also yeah,
- 10:57Speaker 7: but it also when seven's it went Brissett may give.
- 11:01Speaker 5: You information as opposed to it's going to click.
- 11:03Speaker 2: ZAPPI you know there's a reason why that would click.
- 11:06Speaker 7: Yeah, So I mean a little bit, but you know,
- 11:08Speaker 7: still getting some Milton reps and still getting some Zappy reps.
- 11:11Speaker 7: But it definitely wasn't you know Brissette. Then Zappy was
- 11:15Speaker 7: kind of mixed.
- 11:16Speaker 5: Up the bulk of the reps still, Okay, May, what.
- 11:23Speaker 3: Was the second team quarterback like he was? How else
- 11:28Speaker 3: would you like if you divvy up the reps? He
- 11:30Speaker 3: went second in the drill.
- 11:31Speaker 2: I think you added that change from what we've seen
- 11:34Speaker 2: so far. Yeah, absolutely, yeah, right now, it could be
- 11:36Speaker 2: just this particular day. As we know, we don't see
- 11:39Speaker 2: every practice, so maybe this was just his day to
- 11:42Speaker 2: get number two reps.
- 11:43Speaker 3: Yeah, he downplayed it a little bit afterwards and said
- 11:45Speaker 3: that they want to work with different guys. You work
- 11:48Speaker 3: with different receivers and stuff like that. So you know,
- 11:51Speaker 3: today it might have been Drake May. You're right, Today
- 11:53Speaker 3: could have been Drake May's day to be QB two,
- 11:55Speaker 3: and then tomorrow would be Bailey Zappi's day to be
- 11:57Speaker 3: QB two. Just so that the cycle of receivers, you know,
- 12:00Speaker 3: you're not working with the same three or four guys
- 12:01Speaker 3: over and over. You spread it out a little bit.
- 12:04Speaker 7: It just seemed too like they gave a last set
- 12:05Speaker 7: of reps to Jakobe after kind of a clunky period
- 12:08Speaker 7: defense one, you know, for what it's worth with the
- 12:11Speaker 7: push ups and those kind of things. But again those
- 12:13Speaker 7: reps were clunky again too at the end, so it
- 12:16Speaker 7: almost felt like they gave him one last chance to
- 12:17Speaker 7: kind of go out there and do it and yeah,
- 12:19Speaker 7: just you know, it's not clicking.
- 12:20Speaker 2: Yet for them. Defensive coaches made available before practice and
- 12:26Speaker 2: offensive oh I'm sorry, offense, Oh god, yeah, it's my problem. Anyway,
- 12:30Speaker 2: Offensive coaches made available. Van Pelt talked at length at
- 12:34Speaker 2: the podium, but everybody was, you know, in a scrum
- 12:38Speaker 2: with people anybody say anything of note that you would
- 12:42Speaker 2: that you heard in particular.
- 12:43Speaker 7: I mean, I just start off with Alex v Empelt
- 12:45Speaker 7: seeming like he is a very firm sense of what
- 12:47Speaker 7: he's looking for and how he wants to put it
- 12:49Speaker 7: into place. And you know, even going back to Osborne
- 12:52Speaker 7: talking about running in this offense, I think that's what's
- 12:54Speaker 7: coming to the forefront for me, is that this is
- 12:56Speaker 7: an established offense that he knows what he wants to run.
- 12:59Speaker 7: And you know, we'll see if they were able to
- 13:01Speaker 7: put it together. But I do think, you know, last
- 13:03Speaker 7: year we had a little bit of a false hope,
- 13:06Speaker 7: I guess with Bill O'Brien coming back and it felt like,
- 13:08Speaker 7: all right, he's going to know what he wants. But
- 13:10Speaker 7: I'm not sure he was in the position to fully
- 13:12Speaker 7: execute what he really wanted last year. And you know,
- 13:14Speaker 7: I think with Van Pelt, I'm hoping that he does,
- 13:16Speaker 7: but he just seems very clear on what he wants.
- 13:18Speaker 4: I talked a little bit to bick Nell.
- 13:20Speaker 7: I don't know if you guys talk to any of
- 13:21Speaker 7: the other guys, but you know, like he's seen out
- 13:23Speaker 7: of well, no bell so far.
- 13:25Speaker 2: You know, again, not a reason to panic. And no
- 13:27Speaker 2: disrespect intended. But girod Mao came right out and said,
- 13:31Speaker 2: I don't know what I'm doing on offense, So I
- 13:34Speaker 2: think it is Alex Van s Pelt's offense and he
- 13:36Speaker 2: is going to be able to do what he wants
- 13:37Speaker 2: to do. Yeah, you know, until it doesn't work.
- 13:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you know. The biggest things I I
- 13:43Speaker 3: listened to Van pell for a while, but I bounced
- 13:45Speaker 3: around after that, and I think the couple big things
- 13:48Speaker 3: did seem like they're pretty happy with Drake May's footwork
- 13:51Speaker 3: in the progress he's made with his photos.
- 13:52Speaker 5: See McCartney talked. I was looking for the quote here,
- 13:54Speaker 5: but I don't think I wrote it down.
- 13:56Speaker 3: Yeah, it seemed like they were pretty excited that he's
- 13:59Speaker 3: made as much progress in the period of time that
- 14:01Speaker 3: he has, and they haven't touched his throwing motion, his
- 14:05Speaker 3: upper body mechanics anything like that. They're kind of doing
- 14:08Speaker 3: it in steps, and I go from the ground up,
- 14:12Speaker 3: you know, fo work first and then maybe tweaks to
- 14:15Speaker 3: the other things later on. But right now the focus
- 14:18Speaker 3: is on let's time the feet and the eyes. Let's
- 14:20Speaker 3: make sure those things are timed up and then we
- 14:23Speaker 3: can start maybe tweaking with some of the other things
- 14:25Speaker 3: that we would like to change. But overall I thought
- 14:28Speaker 3: that they were both Van Pelt said flat out, Jacoby's
- 14:32Speaker 3: the starter right now, as we all know. But I
- 14:34Speaker 3: think they were pretty happy with what they've seen from
- 14:37Speaker 3: Drake May so far.
- 14:38Speaker 5: Yeah, and I would say that a good sign. And
- 14:41Speaker 5: it might be a minor thing, but like when Drake
- 14:43Speaker 5: May talked at the end of practice, he used a
- 14:45Speaker 5: lot of the same terminology that both Alex Van Pelt
- 14:49Speaker 5: and more specifically, I thought TC McCartney used what Evan
- 14:53Speaker 5: just said, you know, talking about marrying the eyes and
- 14:55Speaker 5: the feet and the timing and the routes, and that's
- 14:58Speaker 5: one of the things that I I thought May was
- 15:01Speaker 5: really looking. I think he was asked a question, what
- 15:04Speaker 5: are some of the things that he feels like he
- 15:06Speaker 5: may be on schedule or ahead as opposed to some
- 15:08Speaker 5: of the things that he needs to work on, And
- 15:10Speaker 5: he talked about some of that timing stuff being, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 5: some of the stuff that he's been working on and
- 15:15Speaker 5: feels good about. And then sort of getting the plays
- 15:18Speaker 5: called spitting them out in the huddle, you know, the
- 15:21Speaker 5: operation whatnot is something that is still coming because Van
- 15:25Speaker 5: Pelt talked about like with so many of these guys
- 15:28Speaker 5: they never did that, They never called plays in a huddle. Yeah,
- 15:31Speaker 5: they do it a lot at the line of scrimmage.
- 15:33Speaker 5: So I thought it was a positive sign to hear
- 15:36Speaker 5: May using the same kind of words that Evan just
- 15:38Speaker 5: used from the coaches. So obviously it's syncing in. He's
- 15:41Speaker 5: getting the message.
- 15:42Speaker 2: Yep, good stuff, all right. So eight five five PATS
- 15:46Speaker 2: five hundred is the aceticke at hotline web radio at
- 15:48Speaker 2: Patriot dot com is the email addressing. If you have
- 15:50Speaker 2: any specific questions you want to ask about what was
- 15:53Speaker 2: seen today, call in, write in. We'll get to that.
- 15:57Speaker 2: What else you guys want to discuss while we're setting
- 15:59Speaker 2: the tape? I mentioned on the top justin Jefferson's deal
- 16:03Speaker 2: because I think it has a ripple effect throughout the league.
- 16:06Speaker 7: You know, I don't I don't know how many specifics
- 16:08Speaker 7: I want to get into, but I think there's some
- 16:10Speaker 7: really interesting stuff with kickoffs going on, and I have
- 16:13Speaker 7: a feeling that a lot of teams are figuring it
- 16:16Speaker 7: out and trying to figure out how they're going to
- 16:18Speaker 7: attack this. I know, I forget Paul, we were talking
- 16:20Speaker 7: which team.
- 16:20Speaker 4: Said Kansas.
- 16:22Speaker 7: As a kickbucker because you need somebody to tackle. So
- 16:26Speaker 7: you know, I don't want to give anything away, but
- 16:27Speaker 7: you know, you're just you're seeing some similar experimentation by
- 16:30Speaker 7: the Patriots, and I just I don't really know what
- 16:32Speaker 7: to expect. It almost seems like these teams are all
- 16:34Speaker 7: going to kind of come into this season with their
- 16:36Speaker 7: own plan as to how they're going to.
- 16:38Speaker 4: Approach the kickoffs.
- 16:38Speaker 7: And I think it's going to be kind of interesting
- 16:40Speaker 7: to see what a.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Special teams thing that I have. I don't know, a
- 16:43Speaker 5: little bit interesting.
- 16:46Speaker 2: I'll give you a little behind the scenes stuff and
- 16:48Speaker 2: i'll drop a name. I was having lunch with Ernie
- 16:50Speaker 2: Adams when we were shooting the schedule release video and
- 16:55Speaker 2: we're eating our eating our salad. I said, you know, Ernie,
- 16:58Speaker 2: I'd really love to pick you and bill his brain
- 17:00Speaker 2: and see what you would cook up for this new
- 17:02Speaker 2: uh kickoff. And he looks up and you know, he's like, Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 2: A lot of it's gonna have to do with blocking,
- 17:09Speaker 2: and you know, you know blocking schemes that you come
- 17:12Speaker 2: up with. I said, yeah, I think if you can
- 17:14Speaker 2: do it right, I think you're going to break somebody
- 17:16Speaker 2: he goes, I agree, Yeah, yeah.
- 17:18Speaker 4: I mean it's it's it.
- 17:20Speaker 3: It feels like it go either way. Some of the
- 17:22Speaker 3: ones that we saw today were pretty rough in terms
- 17:24Speaker 3: of the blocking, but again, you can't really block anybody,
- 17:28Speaker 3: so you're just kind of a speed bump anyways, But
- 17:30Speaker 3: then there were a couple that it seemed like they
- 17:32Speaker 3: got the seal that they wanted and kind of broke
- 17:34Speaker 3: it a little bit. But the different you know, we
- 17:37Speaker 3: can't really tell you the different like x's and umbers
- 17:39Speaker 3: of what they were doing, but there was a lot
- 17:42Speaker 3: of you can see like what Deuce is saying that
- 17:44Speaker 3: there's experimenting with some different things that well.
- 17:47Speaker 5: They're experimenting how they're kicking the ball, even down to that.
- 17:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you know, and if you don't know the answer
- 17:53Speaker 2: to say, I don't know, but are the rules that
- 17:57Speaker 2: no one can move until the ball is caught or
- 18:00Speaker 2: hits the ground or hits the ground. Yeah, so everyone
- 18:02Speaker 2: Like when I mean still, I don't mean like you know, uh,
- 18:07Speaker 2: you know, motion still, but like you can't cross the
- 18:10Speaker 2: line still.
- 18:11Speaker 3: You can move really, it's like a false start.
- 18:13Speaker 2: It's like a snap.
- 18:14Speaker 5: You're at the line. Yeah, you're at the line. The
- 18:16Speaker 5: only guy that's moving is the kicker. The other ten
- 18:18Speaker 5: guys have to be stationary, I believe.
- 18:19Speaker 2: Okay, and then once the ball hits the ground or
- 18:22Speaker 2: is caught, that's the snap that acts as the snap
- 18:25Speaker 2: of the ball. So I think that what about spacing.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Well, it's everybody's in that ten yard box.
- 18:31Speaker 2: To be in a ten yard.
- 18:32Speaker 3: There's a certain amount of guys that can't remember at
- 18:34Speaker 3: the top of my head that have to be on
- 18:35Speaker 3: each side of the ball, just like there would be
- 18:37Speaker 3: in normal And.
- 18:38Speaker 2: Does it matter where the ball receiver is? Can he
- 18:41Speaker 2: be as far back as he wants?
- 18:43Speaker 3: Does he have to be with there's a landing zone.
- 18:45Speaker 2: There's a landing zone that he has to be in.
- 18:47Speaker 5: Yes, okay, well you would need to be in like
- 18:51Speaker 5: I think you would want to be in the zone
- 18:52Speaker 5: where the ball is going to get kicked.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Oh I know, But like can you start, like, for example,
- 18:56Speaker 2: further back and you know, get a running start type
- 18:58Speaker 2: of thing if.
- 18:59Speaker 3: You wanted to. It's a little bit more like a
- 19:00Speaker 3: punt in that aspect, at least of what we've seen
- 19:03Speaker 3: of it so far and what you see it in
- 19:05Speaker 3: the spring leaves and stuff like that. It feels a
- 19:07Speaker 3: little bit more like a punt because of just the
- 19:09Speaker 3: way that the ball comes down and then everybody's you know,
- 19:11Speaker 3: kind of coming down on you. Yeah. I just I
- 19:14Speaker 3: think the big thing with it is going to be
- 19:17Speaker 3: obviously the blocking schemes and like what's the best way
- 19:20Speaker 3: to kind of create those alleys for these guys to
- 19:23Speaker 3: run through because the team that's covering the kick gets
- 19:27Speaker 3: on you really really quickly. And that's what I think
- 19:29Speaker 3: we saw a little bit of today was a lot
- 19:31Speaker 3: of early penetration of like, okay, like this guy's just
- 19:34Speaker 3: he's just got a ten yard sprint and if I don't,
- 19:37Speaker 3: if there's nobody in his way, then he's through the
- 19:38Speaker 3: line of scrimmage, and there's that's it, right, And then
- 19:41Speaker 3: all of a sudden you could really be in a
- 19:42Speaker 3: position where you're backed up because your kickoff guy gets
- 19:46Speaker 3: tackled pretty quickly. So I think that that's the biggest question,
- 19:49Speaker 3: is like, because you can't move into the ball's cot
- 19:51Speaker 3: or hits the ground, you have to have eyes on
- 19:53Speaker 3: the ball first of all, which we saw some little
- 19:55Speaker 3: tricks that they were using today of how to keep
- 19:57Speaker 3: some guys kind of know when the ball it's the ground, right,
- 20:00Speaker 3: because if everybody's facing this way and their back is
- 20:03Speaker 3: to the returner, then they have no idea when he's
- 20:06Speaker 3: not the bag.
- 20:06Speaker 2: I think, like you said, how do you kick it?
- 20:09Speaker 2: How do you block it? But also from a returner standpoint,
- 20:14Speaker 2: there's probably strategy. Do I wait half a beat and
- 20:17Speaker 2: let them declare and then make my move or do
- 20:20Speaker 2: I just do what they tell me and assume that
- 20:23Speaker 2: the blocks are going to be there, sort of like
- 20:24Speaker 2: as a running back. I think there's strategy there from
- 20:27Speaker 2: a returning stand Yeah.
- 20:28Speaker 4: I think that's what you said, the word for it.
- 20:29Speaker 4: That's what's interesting to me.
- 20:30Speaker 7: A lot of time these rule changes happen and it's like, oh,
- 20:32Speaker 7: we're just trying to get rid of the kickoff. But
- 20:34Speaker 7: this feels like there actually are going to be competing
- 20:36Speaker 7: strategies that each team's going to enter the season with
- 20:39Speaker 7: that you're probably gonna have to see some course corrections,
- 20:42Speaker 7: because I wonder if some teams have it totally wrong.
- 20:44Speaker 7: Perhaps I don't know, Maybe you know it's all going
- 20:47Speaker 7: to maybe even out and generally the returns will be
- 20:49Speaker 7: the same, but I you know, maybe one team's got
- 20:52Speaker 7: some kind of unique thing up their sleeve that all
- 20:54Speaker 7: of a sudden, everybody's going to steal just such a
- 20:56Speaker 7: unique moment in sports, were all of a sudden, a
- 20:58Speaker 7: whole part of the game is going to change, and
- 21:01Speaker 7: strategically you don't know exactly, especially like going into like
- 21:04Speaker 7: do you hide it in.
- 21:05Speaker 4: The preseason two? Like do you you know? You guys
- 21:07Speaker 4: you know?
- 21:07Speaker 7: Are you trying to keep those things to yourself.
- 21:10Speaker 2: Or do you feel you have to practice?
- 21:11Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 21:11Speaker 2: Right?
- 21:12Speaker 3: I think the biggest thing to me too, is like
- 21:14Speaker 3: the type of returner that you put back there. I
- 21:16Speaker 3: think changes now because I think you're gonna have to
- 21:19Speaker 3: make the first guy miss. I don't think you're gonna
- 21:20Speaker 3: consistently get the first guy blocked the way that the
- 21:23Speaker 3: strategy is. So with a typical kickoff, you have like
- 21:27Speaker 3: that straight line Jalen Rager type of speed. But now
- 21:31Speaker 3: I feel like you almost need that Marcus Jones like
- 21:33Speaker 3: jitterbug back there because he's gonna have to find the daylight.
- 21:37Speaker 3: It's not going to be as simple as just you know,
- 21:39Speaker 3: one cut and go ors type of thing. So I
- 21:41Speaker 3: wonder if that changes it too, where you have to
- 21:44Speaker 3: have somebody back there. That's a little bit elusive, like
- 21:46Speaker 3: you're not gonna be able to.
- 21:47Speaker 2: Just and are you allowed to like match up pre stuff?
- 21:50Speaker 2: For example, I know he's not in the league anymore,
- 21:52Speaker 2: but if Aaron Donald was one of the guys in
- 21:53Speaker 2: the line, he's gonna beat his man. So are you
- 21:56Speaker 2: allowed to, Oh, there's Aaron Donald, Okay, our best blocker.
- 22:00Speaker 2: You run down there and match up with him? Like,
- 22:02Speaker 2: are you allowed to do that?
- 22:03Speaker 4: You know, that's a great question.
- 22:05Speaker 5: And you don't have that far to run to do that. Yeah,
- 22:07Speaker 5: because you're so close together now, and it falls kind
- 22:11Speaker 5: of under the category of when you started this, I
- 22:13Speaker 5: don't know, and I don't know specifically, but isn't the
- 22:16Speaker 5: zone doesn't it go to the goal line? Yes, the
- 22:19Speaker 5: landing zone, So like you can line up to your
- 22:21Speaker 5: your your question about can the return or be back,
- 22:24Speaker 5: and then run up and catch it.
- 22:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:26Speaker 5: Yeah, because you can line up all the way, even
- 22:29Speaker 5: if you had to line up in the zone.
- 22:30Speaker 2: That's the goal line that said all the balls are
- 22:32Speaker 2: going to go in the end zone anyway.
- 22:34Speaker 5: I think that's the one chance that something changes.
- 22:37Speaker 3: Is that tier?
- 22:37Speaker 5: It is because it's the twenty The touch back is
- 22:41Speaker 5: the twenty five.
- 22:42Speaker 3: Now I mean the.
- 22:43Speaker 5: Thirty good radio thirty right, text me that the touch
- 22:47Speaker 5: back is the thirty now right, So you might see
- 22:50Speaker 5: more teams try to, you know, make them get it
- 22:54Speaker 5: out to the thirty, you know, without just giving it
- 22:56Speaker 5: to them. I don't really, I mean, I could be
- 22:58Speaker 5: completely wrong on this. I don't envision like an uptick
- 23:03Speaker 5: and kickoff returns for touchdowns. I think it's going to
- 23:05Speaker 5: be hard. I think it's hard. It's just like running
- 23:08Speaker 5: plays like you see long runs every once in a while,
- 23:10Speaker 5: but not very often. And I think it's going to
- 23:13Speaker 5: be kind of like that.
- 23:13Speaker 2: I mean, the only reason I thought maybe you might
- 23:15Speaker 2: see an uptick is because you know, you don't have
- 23:18Speaker 2: deep safeties anymore. You don't have that last may well
- 23:21Speaker 2: you could, well, you'd have to spin them around and
- 23:24Speaker 2: have them.
- 23:24Speaker 5: Kind of just like on regular kickoffs, because some guys
- 23:28Speaker 5: don't like b line to the returner, and from what
- 23:33Speaker 5: we've seen so far, there really hasn't been a change
- 23:35Speaker 5: in the returner like skill set. There's been all the
- 23:39Speaker 5: sort of normal candidates.
- 23:44Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 23:45Speaker 5: I mean, I do think it's it's I would be
- 23:49Speaker 5: it would be worth talking to guys like Bill and
- 23:52Speaker 5: you know, just to see what he could come up with.
- 23:53Speaker 5: I think that would be interesting for sure, you know,
- 23:56Speaker 5: like when you were talking to Ernie about it. But
- 23:58Speaker 5: I just kind of think it's going to end up
- 24:00Speaker 5: being something that will take some getting used to at
- 24:04Speaker 5: the beginning. There might be some missteps because teams just
- 24:07Speaker 5: aren't necessarily up to speed yet. That's why I think
- 24:10Speaker 5: you do have to do it in the preseason.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Yeah, it's something to look forward to.
- 24:14Speaker 4: Yeah, it's definitely different.
- 24:15Speaker 3: It'll be different.
- 24:16Speaker 5: I think by the middle of the season you won't
- 24:18Speaker 5: even bat an eye.
- 24:19Speaker 3: I feel like I agree with you though, Paul. That
- 24:21Speaker 3: returns for touchdowns maybe not, but like gashes, you know,
- 24:24Speaker 3: like twenty twenty five yard returns. Yeah, like a run
- 24:27Speaker 3: play I could run. I could see that happening a
- 24:29Speaker 3: little bit more. I think the most fascinating thing is
- 24:32Speaker 3: it is basically like a run blocking scheme, and so like,
- 24:35Speaker 3: do they run basically like power or they're like trying
- 24:39Speaker 3: to fold it and then kind of pull somebody through
- 24:41Speaker 3: the middle. I also think that in the spring league
- 24:44Speaker 3: is the most fascinating part to me was the two returners.
- 24:47Speaker 3: So you have two returners deep and then you do reverse.
- 24:50Speaker 3: You can do reverses, you can do fake reverses, and
- 24:53Speaker 3: you can do all that kind of stuff. And if
- 24:54Speaker 3: you get that down, the reverse and the pitch and
- 24:57Speaker 3: all that kind of stuff, you get it down. Some
- 24:58Speaker 3: teams in the XFL or whatever league it was, they
- 25:01Speaker 3: had some really big you do have to do.
- 25:04Speaker 5: I think you have to have the two returners.
- 25:06Speaker 2: So you're not allowed to forward pass.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Here, right, No, it's like a lateral no.
- 25:10Speaker 5: But I do think that Evan's point is valid because
- 25:13Speaker 5: that's a pretty big landing zone and everybody's really close
- 25:16Speaker 5: to the ball. So I don't know if you can
- 25:18Speaker 5: just run the risk of only one guy being back
- 25:20Speaker 5: there and you kick it away from him and make
- 25:23Speaker 5: him cover a lot of ground. It's not like the
- 25:25Speaker 5: ball's traveling sixty five seventy yards and the guy has
- 25:28Speaker 5: time to go and get it now. It's it's not
- 25:31Speaker 5: traveling that far. There's much less time to I mean,
- 25:34Speaker 5: I think you need two guys.
- 25:35Speaker 2: I was a head coach, I might have to devote
- 25:37Speaker 2: an entire practice on this when no one's watching.
- 25:40Speaker 7: Well, we've seen at the last two practices that they've
- 25:43Speaker 7: pluted some extensive time.
- 25:44Speaker 2: And what is working.
- 25:45Speaker 7: What isn't you know it's almost got Paul interested in
- 25:48Speaker 7: special teams.
- 25:48Speaker 3: It's less than one percent.
- 25:50Speaker 4: He's interesting.
- 25:50Speaker 2: I'm not sure it has.
- 25:51Speaker 3: I am curious.
- 25:53Speaker 5: I will I will admit to being curious to see
- 25:55Speaker 5: how to see if friend's right.
- 25:56Speaker 2: I'm not sure it has the impact of the pitch
- 25:58Speaker 2: clock in baseball, but I think it is an interesting
- 26:01Speaker 2: addition to the kickoff.
- 26:02Speaker 3: I mean, it should make the play a little bit
- 26:04Speaker 3: more competitive.
- 26:05Speaker 5: Yeah, that's what I If it becomes a problem and
- 26:07Speaker 5: like this, all of a sudden, there's like a rash
- 26:09Speaker 5: of returns.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Everybody's just going to kick it through the end.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Zone, Yeah right, yeah, all right again eight five to
- 26:15Speaker 2: five pass five hundred is a sticking outline web radio,
- 26:17Speaker 2: patres dot com. What else? What else do we got?
- 26:21Speaker 4: This is my usual things that might only be interested
- 26:23Speaker 4: to me.
- 26:24Speaker 7: But I mean, you know, judeon Uce jenningson't really play
- 26:27Speaker 7: too much, so it's just it's really putting a spotlight
- 26:29Speaker 7: for me on defense with O'Shane Jimenez and Christian Ellis
- 26:33Speaker 7: and Joe Giles Harris, like these second level special teams
- 26:36Speaker 7: kind of guys. Now, this could just be the starters
- 26:39Speaker 7: aren't playing. These guys aren't going to be doing anything
- 26:41Speaker 7: once it actually matters. But you know, these you just
- 26:44Speaker 7: you have to at least pay attention to these guys
- 26:46Speaker 7: because that's who's on the roster now. And we know
- 26:48Speaker 7: what happened last year with Jude On going down. I
- 26:50Speaker 7: just you know, if one of these guys could maybe emerge.
- 26:52Speaker 7: We haven't seen Taki Taki either.
- 26:53Speaker 4: He's been out the last.
- 26:54Speaker 7: Couple of weeks, so you know, just that overall defensive
- 26:57Speaker 7: depth it's a little bit lacking. And you know, even
- 27:00Speaker 7: with with Gonzales, I feel like they're a little light
- 27:02Speaker 7: with him, like they're getting more looks at the Marco
- 27:05Speaker 7: Wilson's of the world and they're taking a look at
- 27:07Speaker 7: Isaiah Bolden and the slot continues. You know, like that's
- 27:10Speaker 7: that's a big one to look at.
- 27:11Speaker 4: I think with with Bolden, with his.
- 27:13Speaker 7: Size, he just doesn't really seem like a traditional star
- 27:16Speaker 7: slot cornerback type guy that's quick and inside and can
- 27:19Speaker 7: go both ways. He almost has more of a safety
- 27:21Speaker 7: body type. So you know, some some something's going on
- 27:24Speaker 7: on defense with some of the depth issues that they have,
- 27:26Speaker 7: which again maybe just interesting to me and everyone wants
- 27:29Speaker 7: to top quarterback and receivers, but that's just some of
- 27:31Speaker 7: the stuff that that's clocking my.
- 27:32Speaker 4: Rdar right now.
- 27:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 27:34Speaker 5: The corners I've really watched too, you know, Austin and Bolden.
- 27:37Speaker 5: Like you said, I I think there's a chance that
- 27:40Speaker 5: that's like three and four.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Alex Austin's been decent.
- 27:44Speaker 5: He made a nice breakup today on an out route
- 27:48Speaker 5: in the end zone. Those those are the guys that
- 27:52Speaker 5: might might have bigger roles than I think people think.
- 27:55Speaker 5: And you know, it is always one. I know, you
- 27:57Speaker 5: guys both told me the first practice that I wasn't
- 27:59Speaker 5: at about bold and working out in the slought a
- 28:01Speaker 5: lot and still seeing that yep, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I mean no Jonathan Jones, no Marcus Jones right in
- 28:07Speaker 3: any major capacity. So those are the two guys I
- 28:10Speaker 3: expect to be in that star role eventually, but it
- 28:14Speaker 3: is interesting to to just see who the depth pieces are.
- 28:17Speaker 3: But I think offensively, I just I still consider continue
- 28:21Speaker 3: to be fascinated by the juju of all of this,
- 28:24Speaker 3: and like they're doing special teams and he's off with
- 28:26Speaker 3: Tyler hughes By himself because he has no role in
- 28:29Speaker 3: the kicking game. He's the most expensive receiver on the team,
- 28:32Speaker 3: one of the most highly paid players period on the team,
- 28:35Speaker 3: and he has no versatility, no nothing, and we don't
- 28:39Speaker 3: even know if he's good enough to play receiver in
- 28:42Speaker 3: the first place. Now, today was one of his better
- 28:44Speaker 3: practices catch up. I'll give him that, But I just
- 28:47Speaker 3: find it fascinating that you used to talk about the
- 28:50Speaker 3: Hall of Fame group, right like when that group didn't
- 28:52Speaker 3: do special teams and Gronk wasn't out there running, you
- 28:57Speaker 3: were like, all right, fine, but then when you see
- 28:58Speaker 3: Juju Smith Schuster doing it and you're like, man, like,
- 29:01Speaker 3: what is his role on this team right now? And
- 29:04Speaker 3: it's a little bit tenuous at the moment.
- 29:06Speaker 2: Okay, web Radio at pats dot com. We'll let our listeners.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Way in Micah in South Dakota writes in not kidding
- 29:14Speaker 2: when I say no. More than five minutes after you
- 29:16Speaker 2: guys went live, I saw all the QB stats from
- 29:19Speaker 2: today's OTA on X formally known as Twitter. I cannot
- 29:21Speaker 2: express how dumb I think that is. And it just
- 29:25Speaker 2: makes me appreciate the PU cruise analysis even more. None
- 29:28Speaker 2: of you mentioned the stats when you first talked about
- 29:30Speaker 2: the QBS outside of the two interceptions Drake May through.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I'd rather hear how you thought everybody looked versus the
- 29:37Speaker 2: results of what happened. I test is the best test
- 29:39Speaker 2: at this point, and in my opinion, so thank you.
- 29:43Speaker 2: Question is, do you think Drake May will receive first
- 29:46Speaker 2: team reps at all during the beginning parts of the
- 29:49Speaker 2: season or are they just gonna let Jacoby handle those duties?
- 29:52Speaker 2: Correct me if I'm wrong, But it seems like they
- 29:54Speaker 2: are grooming Jacoby to be the starter and letting Drake
- 29:57Speaker 2: May ease his way into the NFL.
- 29:59Speaker 4: Yeah, they definitely are doing that.
- 30:01Speaker 2: I don't know I will. I mean, he will get
- 30:04Speaker 2: first team reps to see eventually before probably preseason. They're
- 30:09Speaker 2: going to need to see how he looks with who
- 30:11Speaker 2: they've deemed first team. He's going to get reps.
- 30:14Speaker 7: Now, tell there was nothing today from Jacoby Brissette that
- 30:16Speaker 7: made me think this guy is he's just an established
- 30:19Speaker 7: veteran starter. It just, you know, it was all kind
- 30:22Speaker 7: of clunky. So by that measurement, I would say, I don't.
- 30:26Speaker 7: I don't think anything would would surprise me.
- 30:27Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't. I don't know what the plan is,
- 30:29Speaker 5: but I don't I think I think I feel comfortable
- 30:33Speaker 5: saying that. I feel like Prissette's going to open the
- 30:36Speaker 5: season as the starter. And if that's the case and
- 30:37Speaker 5: he's going to be the number one guy through training camp,
- 30:40Speaker 5: I think that you have to prepare him to start.
- 30:43Speaker 5: Like it's a different position, Like you need the starting
- 30:47Speaker 5: quarterback to be the starting quarterback in practice too. Like
- 30:50Speaker 5: I just think that you need to do that now
- 30:52Speaker 5: at some point in the season when they're ready to say,
- 30:55Speaker 5: you know, is this the week or maybe it's next week,
- 30:58Speaker 5: then Drake May is going to have to get number
- 30:59Speaker 5: one reps practice that we probably won't ever see.
- 31:03Speaker 3: I just find it every time we watch these these
- 31:06Speaker 3: guys throw, there's just something added bonus to Drake May's
- 31:11Speaker 3: skill set that I just don't think that Jacobe will
- 31:13Speaker 3: ever touch a little side arms. You know, you have
- 31:18Speaker 3: just I think better downfield accuracy, like not really downfield.
- 31:22Speaker 3: We're not talking about like five or eight yards twenty five. Yeah,
- 31:25Speaker 3: even just like in these red zone periods, you know
- 31:28Speaker 3: he throws the one into the bucket, did Juju Smith
- 31:30Speaker 3: Schuster just perfectly in stride in the back corner of
- 31:33Speaker 3: the end zone, and then you watch Jakobe make try
- 31:35Speaker 3: to make the same throw and it's just not quite
- 31:37Speaker 3: as pretty as the one that you see Drake make.
- 31:39Speaker 3: And uh, he threw the two picks at the end
- 31:41Speaker 3: of practice. If he hadn't thrown.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Those two picks, why do you think they happened?
- 31:44Speaker 3: The first one was I think a little bit more
- 31:46Speaker 3: worried something in the second one. Oh yeah, the second
- 31:49Speaker 3: one was like a he read Man Gibson red zone,
- 31:53Speaker 3: Gibson sat. He threw it like he was gonna keep
- 31:55Speaker 3: it on communication. Yeah, that's how well he.
- 31:58Speaker 5: I'm curious your thoughts on the.
- 32:00Speaker 3: The first one worries me a little bit more because
- 32:02Speaker 3: those are the air mails that we haven't seen. That's
- 32:04Speaker 3: what I thought. He overthrew the under Yeah, I think
- 32:07Speaker 3: he was going for the second level. Yeah, we all
- 32:10Speaker 3: thought the scene, you know, it was like a flood concept,
- 32:13Speaker 3: so you had like the clear out vertical and then
- 32:14Speaker 3: the corner was filling in and he was trying to
- 32:17Speaker 3: throw the corner and the window I thought was there,
- 32:19Speaker 3: and he just airmailed it to the deep threat.
- 32:22Speaker 5: Because it was hard to tell, like there was a
- 32:23Speaker 5: deep it was like a deep over and you know
- 32:26Speaker 5: there was one underneath, so you could have said, maybe
- 32:29Speaker 5: he underthrew the deep guy, but I don't think he did.
- 32:31Speaker 2: So what in your mind in a situation like that,
- 32:34Speaker 2: or maybe they're the same. Overthrowing or underthrowing overthrow? I
- 32:38Speaker 2: think you can't go wrong if you're long.
- 32:40Speaker 3: I just think when you overthrow it, like if you underthrow,
- 32:43Speaker 3: it's because you don't have the arm strength to get
- 32:44Speaker 3: it there. Yeah, if you do that, then you're not
- 32:46Speaker 3: an NFL quarterback.
- 32:47Speaker 5: Right.
- 32:47Speaker 3: If you overthrow it, we can work on the mechanics
- 32:50Speaker 3: of why you overthrowed it and get it to be
- 32:52Speaker 3: more accurate. I thought the interception was just a little
- 32:56Speaker 3: bit of that overthrow kind of air mail that we
- 33:00Speaker 3: saw at U and C from time to time, where
- 33:02Speaker 3: the ball just kind of he just lost loses the
- 33:04Speaker 3: ball and it's like whoa, where you know, where is
- 33:06Speaker 3: that going sort of thing. I didn't love his body
- 33:09Speaker 3: language afterwards. Either.
- 33:11Speaker 5: Don't want body language in general today because he struggled.
- 33:14Speaker 5: I mean, if we bury in any of the lead,
- 33:16Speaker 5: we're going to bury that. He didn't throw the ball
- 33:18Speaker 5: that well today, especially after last week. I thought there
- 33:21Speaker 5: was some sort of momentum that we were kind of
- 33:23Speaker 5: like had a little pep in our step.
- 33:25Speaker 4: You know.
- 33:25Speaker 5: Again, I don't I buried the lead intentionally because I
- 33:29Speaker 5: just didn't think it was all that important, but that
- 33:31Speaker 5: some of the body language that Evan's talking about was evident,
- 33:34Speaker 5: like the head went down, yeah, not like mac Jones level,
- 33:37Speaker 5: but before anybody was like you know, oh, you know,
- 33:41Speaker 5: I just felt like he looked like he was a guy.
- 33:44Speaker 3: Yeah, because that one I think he should have hit
- 33:46Speaker 3: the throw, and I think you and.
- 33:47Speaker 5: I think he knew he missed the throw that he's
- 33:49Speaker 5: got to make. Yeah, and it's not an easy throw,
- 33:51Speaker 5: but it's it's an NFL throw.
- 33:53Speaker 7: I think to having seen a couple of rookie quarterbacks
- 33:55Speaker 7: now have down days, like I remain encouraged by you know,
- 33:58Speaker 7: and I think Evan laid it out with question you know, look,
- 34:01Speaker 7: these kind of days are going to happen, and you know,
- 34:03Speaker 7: I think really good insight into you know, that one interception.
- 34:07Speaker 7: So but he continues to just show athleticism and you know,
- 34:11Speaker 7: even when he just like kind of tucks it and
- 34:12Speaker 7: run and nothing's there and it's a nothing playing.
- 34:14Speaker 4: It goes as an incomplete in the book.
- 34:16Speaker 7: But you can just see that he instantly when he's
- 34:18Speaker 7: gonna run like, he's gonna have some bursts and it's
- 34:20Speaker 7: gonna be something.
- 34:20Speaker 4: To deal with.
- 34:21Speaker 5: That's gonna be an element that's impossible to evaluate until
- 34:25Speaker 5: the real games play, even like preseason games.
- 34:27Speaker 3: That's it.
- 34:28Speaker 5: That's irrelevant, even like that's going to be a part
- 34:32Speaker 5: of his game that I think that is going to
- 34:34Speaker 5: augment his ability to there's a reason why he was
- 34:37Speaker 5: so good on third downs in college, like.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Sixteen rushing touchdowns over his last two years too. So
- 34:42Speaker 3: in the red zone when he if there's nothing there
- 34:45Speaker 3: and you he can take off. There's no spy or
- 34:47Speaker 3: anything in the low part of the field. And he's
- 34:49Speaker 3: got that sort of like mahomesy and running style where
- 34:52Speaker 3: like it doesn't look like he's that fast, but nobody
- 34:54Speaker 3: can catch it totally. And it's just like this weird
- 34:57Speaker 3: thing a tape where you're just like, doesn't look like
- 35:01Speaker 3: he's that fast, but then the linebackers are catching, Yeah,
- 35:04Speaker 3: he's not catching.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Mahomes has such field awareness, right, he knows where anybody
- 35:09Speaker 2: and before anybody, like we're not saying this obviously Mahomes
- 35:13Speaker 2: in Yeah, I think.
- 35:14Speaker 3: He might be he might be.
- 35:17Speaker 2: Jacket and Abba writes in about the kickoff new kickoff rule,
- 35:21Speaker 2: how about it, don't get greedy approach to the new
- 35:23Speaker 2: kickoff field. Nine offensive linemen and two returners line up
- 35:27Speaker 2: the old line for a set play. Once the returner
- 35:30Speaker 2: catches the ball, your goal is to get ten to
- 35:32Speaker 2: twenty eight yards on the return, not to get a
- 35:35Speaker 2: home run for a touchdown. The kicking team may get
- 35:38Speaker 2: caught off guard with a bunch of small defensive backs
- 35:41Speaker 2: and linebackers who can't take on the nine offensive lineman
- 35:44Speaker 2: one on one.
- 35:45Speaker 5: Okay, So there's a couple of things I mean that
- 35:48Speaker 5: I think you'll see some I'm not poo pooing this
- 35:51Speaker 5: because I think there'll there'll be some different things like
- 35:53Speaker 5: that that are, you know, changing things up.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Wow, we have a new box box.
- 35:59Speaker 4: Box this new places looking good.
- 36:01Speaker 3: Thank you mas.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Dude, do we get a cut on this?
- 36:05Speaker 5: But the first thing we advertise brought to you like
- 36:08Speaker 5: you don't generally have nine offensive linemen active exactly number one,
- 36:13Speaker 5: but number two. If you run nine offensive linemen on
- 36:16Speaker 5: your kickoff team, the other team's not going to combat
- 36:18Speaker 5: that with you know, nine defensive backs. They're going to
- 36:22Speaker 5: put linebackers and bigger bodies to take on those blocks
- 36:25Speaker 5: on the field.
- 36:26Speaker 3: You know, like.
- 36:28Speaker 5: Even if you wanted to sort of like bring something
- 36:30Speaker 5: new out, they can match up the personnel. Like you see,
- 36:33Speaker 5: It's just like when you run a play, like if
- 36:37Speaker 5: you have like your Nickel package or your Din package
- 36:39Speaker 5: on there, and the other team comes out in three
- 36:41Speaker 5: tight ends and they're going to power the football like
- 36:43Speaker 5: you call time out, you know, if you can't get
- 36:46Speaker 5: the right personnel on the field and stuff like that.
- 36:48Speaker 5: So it's not just as easy as well you put
- 36:51Speaker 5: all your linemen out there against all these small guys
- 36:53Speaker 5: and you block them up. Well, the other team is
- 36:55Speaker 5: going to match personnel too.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Maybe you can have a Toyota in the ends with
- 37:00Speaker 2: the sun roof. The kicker gets it in the sunroof,
- 37:02Speaker 2: you get two points. Anyway, I'm for it. If you
- 37:04Speaker 2: want to see Toyota's best offers, including those not seen

- 37:48Speaker 6: When someone accidentally threw away the school play costumes, oh No,
- 37:53Speaker 6: replacements were shipped with FedEx and with picture proof of delivery,
- 37:57Speaker 6: everyone could focus on the perfect opening night FedEx where
- 38:01Speaker 6: now meets next for residential delivery.
- 38:03Speaker 9: Only excited to be back out here, excited to have
- 38:08Speaker 9: some good weather as well. Could do without the pollen.
- 38:11Speaker 4: But I hear.
- 38:12Speaker 9: Thursday is gonna rain, so I sound a little nasily.
- 38:15Speaker 9: It's the pollen far away, No questions perfect.
- 38:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna you know.
- 38:21Speaker 3: We've been asking you a lot about Drake and the
- 38:24Speaker 3: time you've been.
- 38:25Speaker 4: Here, just because there's so much interest in his progression.
- 38:27Speaker 2: As you've stacked the days together. How what have you
- 38:30Speaker 2: observed from his progression? He's doing well.
- 38:32Speaker 9: He's headed in the right direction. You know a lot
- 38:33Speaker 9: of times people think it's this longitude and'll just straight
- 38:36Speaker 9: line up to the top, and realistically it's up and down,
- 38:40Speaker 9: up and down, up and down. But hopefully you end
- 38:41Speaker 9: up still from left to right going to in the
- 38:44Speaker 9: right direction. So he's doing well, you guys, I'm sure
- 38:47Speaker 9: we'll evaluate him today at practice.
- 38:49Speaker 2: What if he hasn't asked you about Joe Milton, Well.
- 38:52Speaker 9: I think the easy thing to say is cannon of
- 38:54Speaker 9: an arm, but just you know, his his energy. He
- 38:58Speaker 9: has a natural leadership skill as well, and he's been
- 39:02Speaker 9: great for the run left tackle.
- 39:04Speaker 5: You've got troops and you've got Kayden kind of go through.
- 39:08Speaker 2: A similar transition from one side of the other. How
- 39:10Speaker 2: much do you see them.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Working with each other and are they kind of on
- 39:12Speaker 3: like the similar track right now?
- 39:14Speaker 2: Yeah, they're on a similar track.
- 39:15Speaker 9: Those guys are out there competing, and I would say,
- 39:17Speaker 9: you know the one where when you look at those
- 39:19Speaker 9: guys's versatility. You know, obviously we look at Big Mike
- 39:21Speaker 9: saying he has the right side lockdown, but these guys
- 39:23Speaker 9: are all competing, They're able to slide to different spots,
- 39:26Speaker 9: and you know they're working out of a sense of
- 39:28Speaker 9: abundance where you know those guys are working together trying
- 39:31Speaker 9: to get better, and you know, once training camp gets here,
- 39:33Speaker 9: we'll see what happens.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Do you feel good.
- 39:35Speaker 5: About those two at left tackle or do you kind
- 39:37Speaker 5: of maybe want to keep your eye on what else?
- 39:39Speaker 9: I mean, I think, look, we're always trying to bring
- 39:41Speaker 9: in good players. Those guys are doing well. We'll see,
- 39:44Speaker 9: We'll see what happens as the roster continue to play out. Realistically,
- 39:47Speaker 9: we're still early in the process and training camp will
- 39:49Speaker 9: reveal a lot.
- 39:51Speaker 3: I'm sure you don't want to do you know everything
- 39:53Speaker 3: in the book and right now.
- 39:54Speaker 2: Is there a certain things you wanted to take away
- 39:56Speaker 2: from this spring or maybe if it's.
- 39:57Speaker 10: Like one big thing you want to learn to apotiate?
- 40:00Speaker 9: Yeah, I think the biggest saying this has been the goal.
- 40:02Speaker 2: Downald is for Drake, for everyone else to learn.
- 40:05Speaker 9: Have a basic understanding of the fundamentals and the extend
- 40:08Speaker 9: and os Bill Carmarderie and get out of here healthy.
- 40:10Speaker 9: That's the goal for Strid.
- 40:12Speaker 8: How would you describe how Alex beIN a TC you know,
- 40:18Speaker 8: deal with the quarterbacks.
- 40:19Speaker 4: Is there a pecking order?
- 40:20Speaker 9: Is there someone who has more more of a heavier hand.
- 40:23Speaker 2: How is that?
- 40:24Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 40:25Speaker 9: A VP, And this is common around the league with
- 40:28Speaker 9: offensive coordinators. Usually offensive coordinators coach the starting quarterback.
- 40:32Speaker 11: You know.
- 40:32Speaker 9: With that being said, VP and those guys have done
- 40:34Speaker 9: a good job making sure the message is the same.
- 40:37Speaker 9: But when it's all said and down, AVP.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Is that's the heavier hand.
- 40:40Speaker 9: To use your words, I like about you talking about
- 40:43Speaker 9: like the.
- 40:43Speaker 3: One you on that right side.
- 40:45Speaker 2: You said like everyone season as having it lockdown, but
- 40:47Speaker 2: not like that's not necessarily true.
- 40:49Speaker 3: Are you talking more in terms of just like the
- 40:51Speaker 3: competition for that spot or in terms of having coffer movie.
- 40:54Speaker 9: For Yeah, just just more of the competition. Look one
- 40:56Speaker 9: thing about Big Mike. Remember he came in here as
- 40:58Speaker 9: a guard and so be able to play garden tackles
- 41:01Speaker 9: definitely something that gets you paid. I might got paid,
- 41:05Speaker 9: but it's more about you know, his versatility.
- 41:08Speaker 3: Is there any interest in telling the best side?
- 41:10Speaker 9: Is primarily uh to be transparent and not right now.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Coach obviously isn't something you need to work on and
- 41:17Speaker 3: coach out. But what specifically do you need.
- 41:20Speaker 9: To work on with Sorry, well, I used to have
- 41:22Speaker 9: the green dot, so I can't hear sometimes, you know,
- 41:24Speaker 9: Matty p and people yelling in my ears.
- 41:26Speaker 3: With Joe Milton, obviously don't have to work on the
- 41:28Speaker 3: arm strength. But what are you what do you hope
- 41:30Speaker 3: he gets out of spring?
- 41:31Speaker 5: What are you specifically working with it?
- 41:32Speaker 9: Yeah, the number one trait for any quarterback in my eyes,
- 41:34Speaker 9: And this is I guess the philosophical thing is just
- 41:37Speaker 9: decision making. It's nice to have a big arm, but
- 41:39Speaker 9: if you can't make the right decision, I mean you'll
- 41:41Speaker 9: be throwing cannonballs, you know, to the other side. That
- 41:44Speaker 9: was the same. But you know, accuracy, you know, competitiveness,
- 41:47Speaker 9: all that stuff is definitely important.
- 41:49Speaker 3: Coachmans it kind of been. It seems like in the
- 41:51Speaker 3: copy of Jeff Turtley's practices.
- 41:53Speaker 9: Is that more about making sure that young guys kind
- 41:55Speaker 9: of earned their spot or is it more about making
- 41:56Speaker 9: sure practice runs spool. I think it's a combination of
- 41:59Speaker 9: the two. I will say there are no starters. I
- 42:01Speaker 9: mean it's easy for us right now with no pads on,
- 42:03Speaker 9: to say, well, this guy probably can do X, Y
- 42:05Speaker 9: and Z based on what he's done in the past.
- 42:07Speaker 9: We're trying to move forward from the past. It's not
- 42:10Speaker 9: a it's not a what have you done for me?
- 42:12Speaker 9: You know what what have you done in the past
- 42:14Speaker 9: is what have you done for me lately? And that's
- 42:15Speaker 9: why we're trying to continue to build that competitive nature
- 42:18Speaker 9: amongst the team. But there are no depth charts, like seriously, like,
- 42:21Speaker 9: if you look out here today, you'll see people that
- 42:23Speaker 9: we consider starters rolling with the different group. So don't
- 42:26Speaker 9: I wouldn't look too much into that.
- 42:28Speaker 1: Happier you drop with how efficient things have been when
- 42:30Speaker 1: you guys are on the field here, you know, new staff,
- 42:33Speaker 1: just in terms of not a lot of wasted time
- 42:35Speaker 1: making sure you're checking.
- 42:36Speaker 9: Outportunity to it's been great, you know, not only out
- 42:39Speaker 9: here as far as from a scheduling purpose, but even
- 42:41Speaker 9: in time so we're in the classrooms, everything's been running
- 42:44Speaker 9: pretty smooth. Once again, though we're owing oh, like you know,
- 42:48Speaker 9: everyone's trying to still find their way. And this isn't
- 42:50Speaker 9: the last iteration of our team.
- 42:52Speaker 2: This year almost lives with the size of the staff.
- 42:57Speaker 2: How are you find in the process of making sure.
- 42:59Speaker 11: Your resources, the coaching staff are allocated to that everybody's involved.
- 43:04Speaker 1: In playing a role.
- 43:06Speaker 9: Yeah, I've had one on one conversations with all of
- 43:09Speaker 9: our staff members just to make sure that we're on
- 43:10Speaker 9: the same page, not only this year, but also from
- 43:12Speaker 9: a developmental standpoint on where they want to go. We
- 43:16Speaker 9: have we have staff meetings each year, every day and
- 43:18Speaker 9: once again, we're we're continuing to jail every day and
- 43:21Speaker 9: hopefully by the time we get to the season, we're
- 43:23Speaker 9: ready to rock.
- 43:24Speaker 2: Understand, it's sorry.
- 43:26Speaker 9: One more thing, and I will say this, no, because
- 43:29Speaker 9: you know, stream of thought. I will say this, there
- 43:32Speaker 9: comes a point in time where like you have to
- 43:35Speaker 9: lean on the experts. And I'm not standing up here
- 43:37Speaker 9: like I have all the answers because I don't whether
- 43:39Speaker 9: it's from a head coaching standpoint or a defensive standpoint
- 43:42Speaker 9: or offensive standpoint. So I'm leaning on those guys. They're
- 43:45Speaker 9: really you know, they're teaching me at the same time
- 43:47Speaker 9: on the offensive side of the ball. So I think
- 43:49Speaker 9: it's important that those guys get those those those reps.
- 43:53Speaker 7: Good.
- 43:54Speaker 3: I'm good.
- 43:55Speaker 2: I'm good with that.
- 43:56Speaker 3: I just want to ask what something you've learned about
- 43:57Speaker 3: your offense through the OTA process couldn't have known until
- 44:01Speaker 3: you saw all the players and coaches on the build, I.
- 44:03Speaker 9: Would say just the you know, the overall intelligence and look,
- 44:06Speaker 9: we have a very competent UH staff on I would
- 44:09Speaker 9: say all sides of the ball. But what I will
- 44:11Speaker 9: say is like the early down stuff has looked pretty good.
- 44:14Speaker 9: And once again, there's only probably three trees to fall
- 44:17Speaker 9: off of as far as early down stuff. Now, as
- 44:20Speaker 9: you know today, you'll see us working in the red
- 44:22Speaker 9: area and third down. That's where you can really see
- 44:24Speaker 9: the creativity of offensive coordinators.
- 44:26Speaker 7: See Belichick out here at the last open ot is what.
- 44:29Speaker 2: Was it like to have him done?
- 44:30Speaker 1: It was great?
- 44:30Speaker 9: It was great.
- 44:31Speaker 2: Uh.
- 44:31Speaker 9: You know, Steve and I we've we've been through a lot,
- 44:34Speaker 9: uh great friends, and I'm happy for him and he
- 44:36Speaker 9: came out here. He was happy for me as well.
- 44:38Speaker 9: So there's no there's no problem there. It's like a brother.
- 44:41Speaker 2: I WoT you talk about leaning on the experts, What
- 44:44Speaker 2: should you leaned on mcado when it comes to some
- 44:46Speaker 2: of the head coaching stuff that you're still.
- 44:48Speaker 9: Getting used to your Yeah, you know, Mcadow's been a
- 44:50Speaker 9: great resource. Uh, Slater's been a great resource. Evan's been
- 44:54Speaker 9: a great resource. All those guys that have been into
- 44:55Speaker 9: different programs. It's been great to you know, use those
- 44:58Speaker 9: guys as sounding boards and really, look, I only know
- 45:01Speaker 9: one way I played my.
- 45:02Speaker 2: Entire career here.
- 45:03Speaker 9: It's good to hear some of those outside perspectives, whether
- 45:06Speaker 9: we're talking about out here on the field scheduling all
- 45:08Speaker 9: those things, uh, and then a VP and the rest
- 45:10Speaker 9: of the coordinators as well, having that input.
- 45:14Speaker 4: And now great moments in.
- 45:18Speaker 2: History.
- 45:19Speaker 5: My point of the thing that we were talking about yesterday, like,
- 45:22Speaker 5: you're afraid to find out something good about mac?
- 45:26Speaker 3: What what am I like?
- 45:27Speaker 2: I like to do some research we might actually find out.
- 45:30Speaker 5: So now you want to compare him to everybody, right,
- 45:32Speaker 5: I just want to know if those numbers, well, I'm
- 45:35Speaker 5: going to compare all those numbers to everybody. Then he's
- 45:37Speaker 5: in the thirties, okay, in the league.
- 45:39Speaker 2: In most things. But I'd like to know what this is.
- 45:42Speaker 3: Okay, But you don't want to know what he's like
- 45:44Speaker 3: you I do want to know.
- 45:45Speaker 5: But when we talk about all the other stuff that star.
- 45:48Speaker 2: When did I say that, oh, those aren't good numbers.
- 45:51Speaker 2: We talked about him yesterday and we said those aren't
- 45:53Speaker 2: good what all the all the you know, his passer
- 45:57Speaker 2: rating and all that stuff.
- 45:58Speaker 5: The only thing I mentioned yesterday was I did think
- 46:00Speaker 5: Houston blitzed a lot, and you just told me. The
- 46:01Speaker 5: guy said he blitzed five times, So I was right.
- 46:04Speaker 5: I didn't think Houston blitzed a lot in the game.
- 46:06Speaker 2: Okay, they didn't, but that now you're changing the goal posts.
- 46:09Speaker 3: I'm not changing any goal posts.
- 46:11Speaker 5: You read off his numbers against the blitz, right, sixty
- 46:13Speaker 5: attempts for three hundred and fifty yards.
- 46:15Speaker 3: I said, those aren't great numbers.
- 46:16Speaker 2: I don't know if they are.
- 46:17Speaker 3: I'm telling you it's not.
- 46:19Speaker 2: So you know what the numbers did.
- 46:21Speaker 5: I don't care what anybody else does. Three hundred and
- 46:23Speaker 5: fifty yards on sixty attempts.
- 46:25Speaker 2: Is not against the blitz. I'd like to know what
- 46:27Speaker 2: the averages are.
- 46:28Speaker 5: I'm just telling you it's not good for Mac Jones.
- 46:32Speaker 5: That's all I'm saying. I don't know what anybody else did.
- 46:34Speaker 2: But you need to another.
- 46:36Speaker 5: No one has been blitzed as much as he has. Okay,
- 46:38Speaker 5: but right, because he said that, no one got blitzed
- 46:41Speaker 5: more Cat Jones.
- 46:42Speaker 2: Yes, so he got blitzed sixty five times. The next
- 46:44Speaker 2: guy might have been sixty four like, i'd like to know.
- 46:47Speaker 3: You can look it up, Fred, if you want to know.
- 46:50Speaker 2: I don't care spouting all this stuff up with them.
- 46:52Speaker 3: I'm not scouting anything.
- 46:54Speaker 5: All I said was I didn't think Houston blitzed a lot.
- 46:56Speaker 5: And then the guy wrote in to say they only
- 46:58Speaker 5: blitzed by that one thing.
- 47:00Speaker 2: But we're talking about overall.
- 47:01Speaker 3: Forget your hang up, not mine.
- 47:03Speaker 4: He's not a hang up.
- 47:04Speaker 2: I just want to I don't know. I just want
- 47:07Speaker 2: to know.
- 47:08Speaker 3: Then look it up. I don't care.
- 47:09Speaker 2: That's what I pay you for.
- 47:11Speaker 3: I don't have a subscription to PFF.
- 47:14Speaker 1: Oh my god, that's another great moment from.
- 47:19Speaker 2: All right back here in Patriots filtered past five hundred,
- 47:22Speaker 2: I'd be good if I turned my mic on eight five.
- 47:25Speaker 2: Five past five hundred is the ating of hotline Brain.
- 47:27Speaker 2: You can burn that one at Patriots dot com. No,
- 47:30Speaker 2: keep it for the archives. That made me laugh about
- 47:32Speaker 2: one of the archives. It's good. I like when when
- 47:35Speaker 2: fans nitpick at us. And Scott is in Rask originally
- 47:40Speaker 2: from Sharon. Now he's in New York City. He's been
- 47:43Speaker 2: listening since eight never misses an episode, thank you, although
- 47:47Speaker 2: never live unless it's the draft. He says, I know,
- 47:50Speaker 2: grammar and language come up sometimes, so I figured i'd
- 47:53Speaker 2: highlight a few oddities and errors that you still make.
- 47:56Speaker 2: The word picture is pronounced not picture. There's a C
- 48:02Speaker 2: and a T in there. This was one of the
- 48:04Speaker 2: first errors I ever noticed, way back in PFW one
- 48:07Speaker 2: filtered and it's still happening. Maybe it's an everything.
- 48:10Speaker 3: Yeah, it's an accent.
- 48:12Speaker 4: That's it.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Okay, it's not an error.
- 48:15Speaker 3: You want it to be pronounced.
- 48:16Speaker 2: He hits all of us. Fred. The overuse of the
- 48:20Speaker 2: word myself is almost always incorrect. When you open the show,
- 48:24Speaker 2: you usually say it's Paul, it's Mike, it's Evan, and myself.
- 48:27Speaker 2: That's incorrect. It's a common mistake, so I understand it.
- 48:31Speaker 2: But the correct usage is me. You use myself only
- 48:34Speaker 2: when you're the subject of the sentence, as in I
- 48:36Speaker 2: could not dress myself. Okay, Mike, your grammar is mostly correct,
- 48:42Speaker 2: but you still throw in filler words like that don't
- 48:44Speaker 2: make sense. It's not as bad as it was, but
- 48:47Speaker 2: there's one that sounds uh stands out. Everyone uses light
- 48:51Speaker 2: kind of and you know, but your heavy reliance on
- 48:54Speaker 2: the phrase a little bit.
- 48:55Speaker 4: A little bit alright is just odd.
- 48:58Speaker 2: One time when talking about your when talking about your
- 49:01Speaker 2: time in LA, you said something like the stadium was
- 49:04Speaker 2: a little bit in LA. It's like half of it
- 49:06Speaker 2: was in l A.
- 49:08Speaker 4: Oh, I don't know.
- 49:08Speaker 2: That's And then Evan sir, and maybe because you're both
- 49:14Speaker 2: are you from Sharon too?
- 49:15Speaker 3: No, no, okay, please.
- 49:17Speaker 2: Because you're from Sharon right, not originally, but I live there.
- 49:20Speaker 3: We're actually good at sports.
- 49:21Speaker 2: I have no complaints, he says. He says he has
- 49:25Speaker 2: no Evan complaints. I was particularly impressed with your correct
- 49:29Speaker 2: usage of the word lego instead of legos on Thursday,
- 49:32Speaker 2: which is incorrect the plural. The word lego is, in
- 49:35Speaker 2: fact lego. From where I stand, you're perfect.
- 49:39Speaker 3: You must be a barrel.
- 49:41Speaker 2: Aside from there, can we From.
- 49:43Speaker 3: Where I stand?
- 49:43Speaker 7: Your he had like a sign and everything your grammar.
- 49:47Speaker 2: Aside from that ridiculous moon landing video tape. Come on, man,
- 49:50Speaker 2: that's ridiculous.
- 49:52Speaker 4: All right, we gotta get going.
- 49:53Speaker 7: We gotta get Evan going on his uh the office,
- 49:55Speaker 7: Pam Beasley take because that's another strong off football No overrated?
- 50:01Speaker 3: You say, I just I think she's a horrible person.
- 50:04Speaker 2: Oh like her character is yes? Bad?
- 50:07Speaker 3: Yes? Yes? Why well, first, of all. No, this is
- 50:11Speaker 3: not we have stuff walked right into it. We just
- 50:13Speaker 3: got off the field from a practice and we got
- 50:15Speaker 3: him talking about the let's save this for like the
- 50:18Speaker 3: middle of June, and we really have nothing to talk.
- 50:22Speaker 2: Quick synopsis, just and and then well we'll get back
- 50:24Speaker 2: to it some day.
- 50:25Speaker 5: I just think that she's a bad person, but give
- 50:27Speaker 5: me any but you're talking about the character.
- 50:29Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, she's engaged to Roy and.
- 50:32Speaker 3: She cheats on No, No, it's not just she she
- 50:35Speaker 3: emotionally cheats on Roy emotionally and then physically cheats on
- 50:39Speaker 3: Roy when she kisses Jim.
- 50:40Speaker 2: No. But wasn't Roy a real dick?
- 50:42Speaker 3: No, he was just kind of an ice cream Yeah,
- 50:44Speaker 3: like he was just he's just kind of there.
- 50:46Speaker 7: Cam opened her mouth and let him know what once
- 50:48Speaker 7: in a while would right from the bottom of a well,
- 50:50Speaker 7: I'm just saying, if you have I don't even know
- 50:53Speaker 7: who is.
- 50:54Speaker 3: You clearly had an emotion. The guy that works down.
- 50:57Speaker 7: Downstairs in the loading dock, he's like the blue you know,
- 51:00Speaker 7: and he's kind of a dick.
- 51:01Speaker 2: But they set it up so everybody that's watching says,
- 51:05Speaker 2: you can do Oh yeah, that right. I mean they
- 51:07Speaker 2: set it up that way.
- 51:07Speaker 4: But still Royscott feelings. He's a person. It's like just
- 51:11Speaker 4: because Jim is.
- 51:13Speaker 3: Just like ditches for art school. Yeah, just just.
- 51:17Speaker 2: Just trying to find herself sitting at this paper company forever.
- 51:22Speaker 7: How many people do you think go to art school
- 51:23Speaker 7: in their thirties and then become a successful artist. I'm
- 51:26Speaker 7: going to say that's a loone, Okay, but you're coming
- 51:30Speaker 7: chasing her.
- 51:32Speaker 2: She's chasing her dreams.
- 51:33Speaker 3: Right, No, it just really stems. Look, there's the you
- 51:37Speaker 3: google this, and there are Google lists of people telling
- 51:42Speaker 3: you why Pam Beasley is the worst? Okay, lists all
- 51:44Speaker 3: right about that.
- 51:47Speaker 5: I don't know The Office enough to have an opinion,
- 51:49Speaker 5: which really hurts me.
- 51:51Speaker 2: You don't know.
- 51:51Speaker 7: You could just go season one you'd probably get.
- 51:53Speaker 5: No, I've watched The Office. I just don't watch it
- 51:56Speaker 5: enough to know. Like I didn't even know who really was.
- 51:58Speaker 5: I didn't know that Pam was Ino somebody else.
- 52:00Speaker 3: Right, you wouldn't because she's into gym times a little cute. See,
- 52:06Speaker 3: I do know. I do know the looks into it.
- 52:08Speaker 7: We gotta start doing these looks to the cameras here,
- 52:10Speaker 7: you know, like when you guys are like.
- 52:12Speaker 2: Yeah, right, do the gym.
- 52:15Speaker 7: Look when you guys are going at it.
- 52:18Speaker 3: Was in Hollywood.
- 52:19Speaker 2: Yeah, he's that's why I look just a little bit.
- 52:21Speaker 3: Just likes to break the That's.
- 52:23Speaker 2: Why in the new studio we're gonna have three cameras.
- 52:26Speaker 2: We'll be able to do those cutaways.
- 52:28Speaker 5: Oh right, yeah, all right, that's supposed speaking.

- 53:23Speaker 2: to the phones. Christian is in Virginia. What's up, Christian? Christian?
- 53:30Speaker 2: I hear something in the background. What's he doing? Christian?
- 53:36Speaker 2: Going on? Oh?
- 53:37Speaker 4: There he is?
- 53:38Speaker 2: What's going on? What happened there?
- 53:41Speaker 11: Oh?
- 53:42Speaker 10: I just was walking out of my car and my
- 53:44Speaker 10: bluetooth reconnected after I locked it.
- 53:46Speaker 2: Ah, gotcha, it's the house to the car walk with
- 53:49Speaker 2: the bluetooth. Got it? Got it?
- 53:52Speaker 5: Am FM, old poison needle, photograph trick.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Oh the volume? All right? Go ahead, Christian? What's up?
- 54:01Speaker 5: So?
- 54:01Speaker 10: I got a few things.
- 54:02Speaker 1: One.
- 54:02Speaker 10: I feel like there's a million dudes named Christian that
- 54:05Speaker 10: listens to this podcast.
- 54:06Speaker 2: Yeah, there is more than there should be.
- 54:08Speaker 4: One t I a M Yeah, and one in LA two.
- 54:12Speaker 10: I feel like I don't know if you guys have
- 54:15Speaker 10: any interaction with Snapchat, but for all the listeners who
- 54:20Speaker 10: follow the NFL on Snapchat, every single one of the
- 54:23Speaker 10: NFL's posts has music, and it is the worst music
- 54:27Speaker 10: you can ever hear. It's genuinely horrible.
- 54:31Speaker 2: Probably a licensing thing, yeah, that.
- 54:34Speaker 10: Would be my guest. But it's like it's it's a
- 54:37Speaker 10: few beats away from a part down effect.
- 54:41Speaker 2: One of these days again, on an off season, I'll
- 54:43Speaker 2: go on my music rant and how the music industry
- 54:45Speaker 2: is leaving money on the table. But anyway back to you, Christian.
- 54:49Speaker 10: My final thing being in Virginia, you know, there's not
- 54:52Speaker 10: a lot of past games nearby, but I'm going to
- 54:55Speaker 10: the preseason game with the Commanders, and I was wondering
- 54:59Speaker 10: if you guys had any guests on who I'm going
- 55:01Speaker 10: to be seeing. I feel like it's still going to
- 55:02Speaker 10: be a fun game, regardless if I'm seeing starters, you know,
- 55:05Speaker 10: with Joe Milton and I don't know, I feel like
- 55:08Speaker 10: there are a lot of guys. I'm a Patriots fan,
- 55:10Speaker 10: and you know I'm here to support the team no
- 55:13Speaker 10: matter who I'm seeing.
- 55:15Speaker 2: Leave with that and all right, thanks Christians. Good question.
- 55:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's a still a dress rehearsal game
- 55:22Speaker 3: from what we've seen a lot of in the past
- 55:24Speaker 3: because they have that big gap between the third preseason
- 55:27Speaker 3: game and the first regular season games is almost two
- 55:29Speaker 3: weeks in between, so I still think you'll see some
- 55:33Speaker 3: of the regular starters.
- 55:35Speaker 4: Okay, get to practice.
- 55:36Speaker 2: So here's the question. By that time, do you think
- 55:40Speaker 2: the Patriots will have made up their mind who's going
- 55:42Speaker 2: to be your Week one starter? Yes? Oh yeah, If
- 55:44Speaker 2: that's the case, and it's Drake May. Will he play
- 55:48Speaker 2: in that game Week three preseason?
- 55:50Speaker 4: Think about it that way.
- 55:51Speaker 3: I guess it depends on how much he played in
- 55:53Speaker 3: the first two games. Yeah, I still think you'll play
- 55:55Speaker 3: a little bit.
- 55:55Speaker 4: I would think so.
- 55:56Speaker 7: I mean, if if he really is the starter, I
- 55:57Speaker 7: think at that point you've got to get it. Do
- 55:59Speaker 7: you think there's a chance that yeah, I don't.
- 56:02Speaker 5: Well, what's the question that Drake Maker start Week one? Yes,
- 56:05Speaker 5: barring an injury.
- 56:07Speaker 2: I think there's a chance. Yes, I do.
- 56:08Speaker 3: I think that's already been decided.
- 56:10Speaker 4: I'm with Paul and that.
- 56:11Speaker 7: I mean, I would think more I could still see
- 56:13Speaker 7: Drake May playing, but Jacoby's the starter.
- 56:15Speaker 4: But I mean that would kind of go.
- 56:16Speaker 5: Against and you could see Drake May in that third
- 56:18Speaker 5: preseason game.
- 56:20Speaker 7: Yeah, I'd have to go back and look, you.
- 56:23Speaker 5: Know, for some of the particulars. But I know, I
- 56:25Speaker 5: think I do think that that Evan's kind of right.
- 56:28Speaker 5: I think that you see some guys playing that third game,
- 56:31Speaker 5: you know, and I think it makes sense to play
- 56:34Speaker 5: Drake May in all three games, to be honest, that
- 56:37Speaker 5: was kind of my problem with the first couple of practices.
- 56:41Speaker 2: No, I think there's a chance he starts Week one.
- 56:43Speaker 5: I think there's always I hope you're right. I just
- 56:46Speaker 5: don't think, barring an injury, I don't think there was
- 56:48Speaker 5: a chance.
- 56:48Speaker 7: What was last year like with Tennessee, Do you guys
- 56:50Speaker 7: remember what because it was.
- 56:51Speaker 4: A weird situation.
- 56:52Speaker 3: Is that the last one? Yeah?
- 56:54Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 56:54Speaker 7: Because yeah, because Bolden got hurt in Green Bay, canceled
- 56:57Speaker 7: the joints and then they went out.
- 56:58Speaker 4: Yeah, they went down there.
- 57:00Speaker 2: It's a weird preseason last Yeah.
- 57:02Speaker 7: That's that's why I hesitate to really try to judge
- 57:05Speaker 7: too much off of that, because it seems like.
- 57:07Speaker 5: I don't know how much the starters have played in it,
- 57:09Speaker 5: because since they went to three, this is gonna be
- 57:11Speaker 5: what the fourth year, twenty one, twenty two, twenty. This
- 57:14Speaker 5: is the fourth year, right, because with twenty one they
- 57:17Speaker 5: went ten.
- 57:18Speaker 4: And seven twenty. This is the third year I think
- 57:20Speaker 4: is twenty one.
- 57:21Speaker 5: I think twenty one was the year that Mac Jones
- 57:23Speaker 5: was a rookie, playoffs ten and seven three three ye.
- 57:26Speaker 3: So that was the first year.
- 57:27Speaker 5: So this is the fourth time that you'll have a
- 57:28Speaker 5: third just third and final preseason game.
- 57:32Speaker 4: I don't know it's.
- 57:33Speaker 7: Gonna be down to too soon, Yeah, I have them please, Yeah,
- 57:37Speaker 7: but but camp starts in mid May.
- 57:39Speaker 5: Yeah, I think camp started. I think camp might be over.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Kendall's in North Carolina. I hate Kendall was going on
- 57:47Speaker 2: Guys Listening doing a great job, thank you, thank you.
- 57:52Speaker 10: Yeah, this question was but Evan, I got two of
- 57:54Speaker 10: them real quick.
- 57:56Speaker 2: When is the start of OTA?
- 57:58Speaker 10: I think I've seen two different dates from two different
- 58:00Speaker 10: pages on Twitter.
- 58:02Speaker 2: You mean training camp, mini camp Monday Monday, Monday twelve
- 58:08Speaker 2: and just okay, go ahead.
- 58:10Speaker 10: And my other question is is it a guarantee that
- 58:14Speaker 10: kJ want to make the team and what have y'all
- 58:16Speaker 10: so far?
- 58:18Speaker 3: I think it's a not a guarantee. I wouldn't put
- 58:21Speaker 3: him in the lock category just yet, but I think
- 58:23Speaker 3: there's a pretty good chance. And I thought today was
- 58:26Speaker 3: one of his better practices that we've seen, you know,
- 58:29Speaker 3: uh more red zones. That's more about space and play
- 58:32Speaker 3: strength and hands that kind of thing, and not necessarily
- 58:36Speaker 3: about you know, can you get open between the twenties?
- 58:38Speaker 4: First day I really clocked him. I mean, the other
- 58:41Speaker 4: day has kind of been.
- 58:42Speaker 5: And it was active today. The other day I didn't
- 58:43Speaker 5: see much, but I think he's pretty close.
- 58:45Speaker 4: To the locker.
- 58:46Speaker 7: Yeah, a little bit of jaheen Bill not to shift,
- 58:48Speaker 7: but I saw him pop at.
- 58:50Speaker 10: Know what the injury is?
- 58:53Speaker 7: No, no, no, I mean he's around, so it's probably
- 58:56Speaker 7: nothing crazy, but just seems like maybe, you know, I mean,
- 58:59Speaker 7: I don't want to speculate, but it's a kind of
- 59:00Speaker 7: thing off tissue.
- 59:01Speaker 4: Yeah, like a little bit of a.
- 59:02Speaker 7: Hamstring tweak, and he can't go through practice, so he
- 59:04Speaker 7: just goes down to the lower fields, does some training,
- 59:06Speaker 7: some stretching, and you know, comes back and watches. But
- 59:09Speaker 7: you know, look, I'm not gonna lie like I know
- 59:11Speaker 7: it's OTAs and these aren't you know, these hugely defining
- 59:14Speaker 7: practices of the year. But anytime a rookie does not
- 59:17Speaker 7: get on the field, it is significant, and especially at that.
- 59:20Speaker 2: Position, well at least when Bill is here. You know,
- 59:24Speaker 2: when you lose time in the off season, it builds
- 59:27Speaker 2: up and it affects you.
- 59:28Speaker 5: And he used to have a formula, you know, for
- 59:30Speaker 5: every day. It's like missing two days. Then you know,
- 59:34Speaker 5: it doesn't take long that you're you're a week or
- 59:36Speaker 5: so behind, right.
- 59:37Speaker 4: Is he going to be ready for mini camp next week?
- 59:39Speaker 5: I mean yeah, and the whole thing, I just want
- 59:41Speaker 5: to temper because I think we we have this every year.
- 59:44Speaker 5: Mini Camp is ot AS. It's the same. The only
- 59:46Speaker 5: difference between Mini Camp and OTAs is it's mandatory to
- 59:49Speaker 5: be there. Players will get fined if they don't show up.
- 59:53Speaker 5: But it's going to be the same format of practice, shorts,
- 59:56Speaker 5: T shirts.
- 59:56Speaker 2: I'm glad Kendall brought up mini camp because on Monday
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: we'll be live for practice with the show. So we
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: don't know exactly when practice will be on Monday, but
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: whatever that time window is, we will be live with
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: this show on Monday.
- 1:00:15Speaker 7: Yeah, so mid to late morning probably probably.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's probably the well we'll get it out.
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: There, so it'll be Monday.
- 1:00:21Speaker 5: It's it's ten eleven twelve, right Monday, Tuesday Wednesday, Mini Camp.
- 1:00:24Speaker 7: Yep, yeah, I mean And in that regard though, just
- 1:00:28Speaker 7: along what Paul's lines is, I mean, I think it's
- 1:00:31Speaker 7: it's worth considering, you know, they do. I saw the
- 1:00:33Speaker 7: reported cap space for whatever that counts for. But you know,
- 1:00:37Speaker 7: Davon Gacha hasn't been around. We know, Matthew Judon last
- 1:00:40Speaker 7: year was you know speculation. Quiet Holdout eventually got a bump,
- 1:00:44Speaker 7: but pulled money from previous year. You know, I throw
- 1:00:48Speaker 7: Gabril Peppers as a guy entering Ramandre Stevenson. You know
- 1:00:50Speaker 7: a few handful of guys that if they were to
- 1:00:53Speaker 7: look internally maybe because I think sometimes around this time
- 1:00:56Speaker 7: of year when they break, they kind of say, hey,
- 1:00:57Speaker 7: let's let's get Steve.
- 1:01:00Speaker 3: I would keep an eye on. Yeah, last year of
- 1:01:01Speaker 3: his deal.
- 1:01:02Speaker 5: They probably wanting to avoid a Josh Jacobs kind of deal,
- 1:01:07Speaker 5: you know, something like that. See if they can get
- 1:01:09Speaker 5: him done, you know, a year ahead of time.
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: So you buy coming off an injury, you buy.
- 1:01:12Speaker 5: A year coming off an injury. Maybe you can get
- 1:01:15Speaker 5: him for less. My guess is Stevenson's not looking for less.
- 1:01:18Speaker 5: But no, that's that's a target I would think would
- 1:01:21Speaker 5: make makes some sense if the Patriots were.
- 1:01:23Speaker 4: Looking, Yeah, it's got to want more money too.
- 1:01:25Speaker 7: I mean, I think that's that's one where it almost
- 1:01:28Speaker 7: seems like that that's got to happen.
- 1:01:29Speaker 5: They really only have one traditional running back, yep in Stevenson,
- 1:01:34Speaker 5: you know, like Kevin Harris is kind of like the
- 1:01:37Speaker 5: second guy, and then Gibson's a different style back. He's
- 1:01:41Speaker 5: more of a pass catcher. Jamichael Hasty today got like
- 1:01:45Speaker 5: a million passes. Out of the backfield. But I don't
- 1:01:47Speaker 5: think he's a traditional so Stevenson's got a little leverage
- 1:01:51Speaker 5: if that, in fact is something that Patriots want to do.
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: Uh, Chris and Bristol GB writes, you think that's great Britain?
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: My guess Bristol, Yeah, okay, right, yeah, all.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: Right, because all of our counties, nobody could come up
- 1:02:05Speaker 7: with new ones.
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: They're just call it new or the same thing.
- 1:02:07Speaker 5: We're just going to call it the same thing that
- 1:02:08Speaker 5: they do over there over there.
- 1:02:10Speaker 2: The Paul and Mike video did that they did with
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: McDaniels was excellent, well done. I grew up watching Tom,
- 1:02:17Speaker 2: so it was always a little difficult to appreciate his
- 1:02:19Speaker 2: greatness and see it in context. Videos like this in
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: our recent QB play have really helped with that. I
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: guess I have a collection of questions and requests in
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: case it's a slow news day. What percentage of players
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: would you guess take peds? Has there ever been a
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: good expose a on this?
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: I am not answering.
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: Yes, probably more than you think. Yeah, what kind of
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: education do college football players get? I guess they can
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: get as good in education as college offers, But what's
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: the minimum level, because.
- 1:02:57Speaker 3: There's some interesting questions.
- 1:02:59Speaker 5: I think there's a there's probably more education than you
- 1:03:02Speaker 5: think for a lot of these guys, and I thought
- 1:03:05Speaker 5: it was really interesting. Today Joe Milton was asked, you know,
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: he was talking about he grew up a Patriots fan
- 1:03:11Speaker 5: and the reason he was a Patriots fan. He said
- 1:03:13Speaker 5: because when he was growing up, he's abud eight years old,
- 1:03:16Speaker 5: his mother's boyfriend at the time always had the Patriots on,
- 1:03:19Speaker 5: so he was always watching him. And there was a
- 1:03:21Speaker 5: follow up questions like, did that have anything to do
- 1:03:23Speaker 5: with why you went to Michigan? You know, Tom Brady
- 1:03:25Speaker 5: goes No, I went to Michigan for the education. Yeah,
- 1:03:29Speaker 5: So I don't think that that makes him an outlier. Now,
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: do I think every guy has his education first and foremost.
- 1:03:36Speaker 8: No.
- 1:03:37Speaker 5: I think there are five star recruits that probably know
- 1:03:40Speaker 5: they're going to play in the NFL someday. But I
- 1:03:42Speaker 5: wouldn't be surprised if there are more people that at
- 1:03:44Speaker 5: least have an I toward their education than you think.
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: Yeah, this is three or four.
- 1:03:50Speaker 5: I kind of like that the way he answered that question,
- 1:03:52Speaker 5: But I don't know why.
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: I was so taken by why has the running game died.
- 1:03:56Speaker 4: It's not sexy. That is a very fantasy.
- 1:03:59Speaker 3: Foo, what do you mean if I died?
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: Well, you know, it's the I mean, running backs used
- 1:04:04Speaker 2: to go high in the draft. They don't anymore.
- 1:04:06Speaker 3: Well, they still do if there's a running back worthy
- 1:04:08Speaker 3: of but the result is.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: Like short shelf life, you know.
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: The there's not a lot of separation between a lot
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: of these guys. Like Evan said, there's a few that
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: are special, but otherwise you can kind of find a guy.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Well, it's so, I guess it's not as much the
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: running game died, but the passing game.
- 1:04:24Speaker 5: It's a very layered question, and I don't have you know,
- 1:04:27Speaker 5: I don't pretend to know that the exact reason, but
- 1:04:29Speaker 5: I would say that with the sort of advancements in
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: the passing game which have led to more points and
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: sort of video game offenses. Now, last year was not
- 1:04:39Speaker 5: a great example of that, but bear with me, I
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: mean offenses up over the last twenty years. I think
- 1:04:45Speaker 5: we can say safely, you need to score to keep up,
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: and if you're going to run the ball, you're not
- 1:04:49Speaker 5: going to score to keep up.
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Yeah, you pass the score, you run to keep the
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: score down, right, Yeah, nowadays.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Yeah, I think with passing it's just simple math. It's
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: kind of like the three pointer in basketball is think
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: about this the other day, where like, even if you're
- 1:05:03Speaker 3: a bad passing team, you're averaging six and a half
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: seven yards per past attempt, whereas a run you're averaging
- 1:05:08Speaker 3: three and a half to four. You're really good, you're
- 1:05:10Speaker 3: averaging five, four or five yds. Right, What the math
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: is going to tell you that the pass is more
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: efficient than running the football?
- 1:05:16Speaker 5: Yeah, And couldn't you just say, like, you know, you
- 1:05:19Speaker 5: know what happened to low post play in basketball. Yeah,
- 1:05:22Speaker 5: it's the same thing. It's the same kind of thing.
- 1:05:24Speaker 5: I know you you don't but but and the whole
- 1:05:28Speaker 5: thing with running backs too, is like true Kevin said,
- 1:05:32Speaker 5: if you if you have a guy like Bjon Robinson,
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: obviously Gibbs, Jamior Gibbs, Right, they're going to be separators
- 1:05:38Speaker 5: and they're still gonna they're gonna go high. But there's
- 1:05:41Speaker 5: so much fewer of those because of this, Like for
- 1:05:44Speaker 5: the last twenty years, it's been sort of a slant
- 1:05:47Speaker 5: towards the passing game and there and those guys are
- 1:05:49Speaker 5: playing receiver.
- 1:05:50Speaker 3: Now, yeah, I think that's the biggest thing too, is
- 1:05:53Speaker 3: to douce his point about shelf life and just contract.
- 1:05:56Speaker 3: If you're a stud athlete and your five star recruit
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: coming out of school and you have this NFL future
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: that Paul was talking about, whole education thing, why would
- 1:06:04Speaker 3: you sign up to be a running back? That's probably
- 1:06:07Speaker 3: on the list of positions nowadays, that's towards the bottom
- 1:06:10Speaker 3: of the list, right, you know, if you could be
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: a receiver, if you could be a corner, even like
- 1:06:15Speaker 3: you're gonna have a longer career, you're gonna make more money,
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: Like all those things are gonna line up for you.
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: Yep.
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: That's why I said it was a layered question because
- 1:06:22Speaker 5: a lot I think there are a lot of factors
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: that have sort of final question.
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: I watched a video about Dak Prescott's Cadence the other day.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Can you play Mike's song please? You got that queue up,
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: Matt oh Man?
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: That Cadence is a here we go, This.
- 1:06:41Speaker 4: One's for Mike two.
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: So and yeah, there we go.
- 1:06:46Speaker 3: This one's for Mike two.
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: So he made his name and plugging and he's a youth.
- 1:06:51Speaker 3: Hockey for me, don't you again?
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: Those twenty eight to three t he's less in the
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: picks an he's sneaky negative, but he knows his hood
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: and he knows them good.
- 1:07:04Speaker 3: Did you know that he used to live in Okay?
- 1:07:10Speaker 6: This one, this one's from Mike So.
- 1:07:17Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 1:07:24Speaker 4: This one's from.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: Mike So and is brilliant.
- 1:07:28Speaker 7: It's going to bring it down at my funeral, Like
- 1:07:30Speaker 7: it is so good.
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: She's got to come up in the new one.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: But it is really objectively excellent. It's really just.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: I gotta I gotta be better in Picks this year.
- 1:07:38Speaker 7: So that way she's forced to change the song, like
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: you get rid of that last in the pix line
- 1:07:43Speaker 7: this year.
- 1:07:43Speaker 5: Good stuff and he knows him good.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: A lot of talk about Cadence though on a serious note, Yeah,
- 1:07:50Speaker 3: important in this offense, and Dak Prescott to Mike McCarthy,
- 1:07:53Speaker 3: offense is from this this tree, from this family, and Cadence.
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: It is important in this offense. And lining up Cadence
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: between the quarterbacks and making sure everybody is kind of
- 1:08:04Speaker 3: doing it the same way is something that they've been
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: talking about.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Well, thanks for bringing us down, Bell and Vista.
- 1:08:10Speaker 7: I'm only kidding, just kidding, Jesus, that was a little harsh.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: I'm just making a joke, geez, just a fun fact.
- 1:08:17Speaker 4: He's got a family.
- 1:08:18Speaker 3: I'm okay, sorry.
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: If you continues to hold out, is he holding out?
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: How can you hold out.
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: And hold out?
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: Well?
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: They have mini camp this week.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: Okay. If he continues to hold out, are the chances
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: better that he gets traded or do you guys think
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: he'll stay with the forty nine ers. Also, would you
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: guys rather trade for a vet Stud wide receiver and
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: develop young O line guys, or trade for a vet
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: Oline Stud and develop your wide receivers.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: It's definitely easier to get your hands on the receiver. Yeah,
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: I would rather go Now, if you have a stud
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: left tackle, I think the last one is probably Trent Williams.
- 1:08:52Speaker 3: That truly moved and that that was years ago is now,
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: it's four or five years ago. It doesn't happen very often,
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: that like a true franchise tackle.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: If you guys had your choice, and let's just say
- 1:09:03Speaker 5: that you know that stud left tackle was available, and
- 1:09:06Speaker 5: the stud receiver is available, what would you rather trade
- 1:09:09Speaker 5: for the receiver?
- 1:09:10Speaker 3: I would rather have the receiver.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: But I'm sure a lot of people would make the
- 1:09:14Speaker 5: argument I'd rather have Trent Williams.
- 1:09:15Speaker 7: Now, I still I still like hold out hope that
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: they can just develop an offensive line. That's okay, Like
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: that's fine, you know, like just that they don't have
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: to like over extend that they're just like they're gonna
- 1:09:25Speaker 7: be able to figure it out. I don't know, maybe
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: that's foolish and we're gonna be talking about, you know,
- 1:09:30Speaker 7: the tackles next year at the top of the draft.
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: But okay, so let me ask you.
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: Probably will be but that's I think that's regardless. But yeah,
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: but that's okay.
- 1:09:38Speaker 5: Yeah, Like if Kayden Wallace is a good right tackle
- 1:09:40Speaker 5: and you're in the left tackle market again next year,
- 1:09:43Speaker 5: that's not the end of the world.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: Yeah, So let me ask you a question about acquiring
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: a stud wide receiver, you know, a veteran stud wide receiver,
- 1:09:51Speaker 2: because I think about football too sometimes, have it?
- 1:09:54Speaker 11: You know a lot of shots to you today because
- 1:09:57Speaker 11: that email doesn't So let's just say you're you're in
- 1:10:00Speaker 11: the situation the Patriots are now, you're starting from the
- 1:10:03Speaker 11: ground floor with your offense basically with a rookie quarterback.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: And a guy like t Higgins. You know you can
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: get him, but you're probably gonna sign him for like
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: a two year deal. Is that too soon because by
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: the time the offense is starting to get good, you know,
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: now you have to decide whether or not to re
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: up t Higgins or you know, you know what I'm saying, Like.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: I feel like we Yeah, I totally know what you're saying.
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: And I've brought this up before. I feel like you're
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: a year or too early for the wide receiver trade. Yeah,
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: And I know nobody wants to hear that because everybody
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: wants to shine in the toy and we all do.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: But really, Josh Allen got Stefon Diggs between years two
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: and three, right, Jalen Hurts got aj Brown around the
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: same time of his career direct because you have to
- 1:10:47Speaker 3: see you have to build some of the other pieces up,
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: and you also have to see the quarterback and play.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: And it's a money issue, isn't it.
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: I don't know if it's a money issue. I just
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: think it's more of like a like he's supposed to
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: the receiver is supposed to be the cherry on top.
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: No, but I know, but if I have the receiver,
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: if I know I have the receiver for six years,
- 1:11:03Speaker 2: let's say which is kind of crazy in the NFL.
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: Then I'm okay with that because when my quarterback gets rolling,
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: I know the receiver is still going to be here.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: But I don't want to have to pay huge amount
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: of money up front and then he has to wait
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: for the quarterback. I'd rather have the quarterback wait for
- 1:11:22Speaker 2: the wide receiver.
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: I think you're getting into the new territory fray, which is,
- 1:11:25Speaker 7: are we ever going to get to a point where
- 1:11:27Speaker 7: the wide receivers are just overvalued?
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: And where it's going to start? You know, to go
- 1:11:30Speaker 4: the other way? Is there?
- 1:11:31Speaker 7: You know a certain point where you say, every year
- 1:11:33Speaker 7: there's multiple these guys coming out, we're gonna be ready
- 1:11:35Speaker 7: better off taking two day two receivers every year rather
- 1:11:38Speaker 7: than over extendis but special player.
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: Once we say Mac Jones, I'm not Max, right, Drake
- 1:11:45Speaker 2: May's got it, then okay, let's bring in that receiver.
- 1:11:48Speaker 3: Well it's like c J.
- 1:11:48Speaker 7: Stroud this year, right, Like that's they they went out
- 1:11:50Speaker 7: and they got digs again.
- 1:11:51Speaker 4: But he's not.
- 1:11:52Speaker 7: They didn't re up him to a big deal, right,
- 1:11:53Speaker 7: Like he's only he's out after a year or two.
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: I think they.
- 1:11:56Speaker 5: Gave him some money, but I don't.
- 1:11:58Speaker 7: Yeah, but that's like a perfect case where you know,
- 1:12:00Speaker 7: if Drake may were, let's say to play this year,
- 1:12:02Speaker 7: and not only does he play, but we really see
- 1:12:04Speaker 7: a spark out of Jalen Polk and then they go
- 1:12:06Speaker 7: out and they add a second piece with Polk next year,
- 1:12:10Speaker 7: you know, and maybe it isn't the long term deal,
- 1:12:12Speaker 7: but that's all right. You know, we'll continue to draft
- 1:12:14Speaker 7: these guys and maybe we make another move down the road,
- 1:12:16Speaker 7: but we know we got I'm talking about acquiring a
- 1:12:19Speaker 7: stud vet right, just insurance.
- 1:12:22Speaker 5: And I know your point about the quarterback, and that's
- 1:12:24Speaker 5: ultimately the biggest thing is you know, does like in
- 1:12:27Speaker 5: other words, if C. J. Stroud was sort of middling
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: last year, do they make that Stefan Diggs trade?
- 1:12:34Speaker 3: Maybe, but maybe.
- 1:12:37Speaker 5: Maybe because he was so good, they were like, we
- 1:12:39Speaker 5: need to get a study for him. So Fred's theory
- 1:12:42Speaker 5: is good. I just wish we could get and I
- 1:12:44Speaker 5: know that I'm a broken record about this. I just
- 1:12:46Speaker 5: wish we could get away from I'm gonna get in
- 1:12:49Speaker 5: every position every time someone signs a big contract. I'm
- 1:12:52Speaker 5: so tired it's always the same guys on Twitter that
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: and then I you know, and I think it was
- 1:12:57Speaker 5: like the guy from over the Cap, Jason, and I
- 1:13:01Speaker 5: think he's the one who had the comparison to a
- 1:13:04Speaker 5: Calvin Johnson contract comparatively to what the one that Justin
- 1:13:08Speaker 5: Jefferson just signed. And it's basically identical percentage wise to
- 1:13:12Speaker 5: the cap at the time relative. This is not like
- 1:13:14Speaker 5: I know, the numbers are mind boggling when you look
- 1:13:16Speaker 5: at thirty five million, you know, aav that seems ridiculous.
- 1:13:20Speaker 5: It's not based on what the cap is now. And
- 1:13:23Speaker 5: the cap is going to continue to rise. There's nine
- 1:13:26Speaker 5: different ways that you have to have to watch NFL games,
- 1:13:29Speaker 5: Thank you. So the number, the number is going up,
- 1:13:32Speaker 5: like you're not ever really gonna have to worry about
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: Oh my god, can I have twenty percent of my
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: cap tied up or thirty five percent tied up with
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: my quarterback and my number one receiver? Yes, the answer
- 1:13:43Speaker 5: is yes. If those guys are really good, you will
- 1:13:45Speaker 5: be really good. If they stink, you're in trouble. But
- 1:13:49Speaker 5: because they can't play, not because.
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: Of the cap.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: Yeah, Jim writes in James, Really, I too enjoyed the
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: Tom Brady film with Josh McDaniels breaking down the places.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: It seems like Mike and Paul were really having fun
- 1:14:03Speaker 2: as well. I wondered if you guys felt you learned
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: anything about Josh in his mind that you didn't know before.
- 1:14:10Speaker 7: I mean, yeah, I mean that's it's it was just.
- 1:14:12Speaker 7: I mean I think I've seen a couple of comments
- 1:14:13Speaker 7: from people have just not like how I felt was
- 1:14:15Speaker 7: that it's easy to like, look, wow, that was an
- 1:14:17Speaker 7: amazing throw by Tom Brady, but all the nuance that
- 1:14:20Speaker 7: Josh breaks down when he shows you, you know, just
- 1:14:22Speaker 7: specifically what made him great, what was going through his
- 1:14:25Speaker 7: mind before the snap? I mean, it's just and I think,
- 1:14:28Speaker 7: you know, I summed it up at the end of
- 1:14:29Speaker 7: the video where it just felt like he was always
- 1:14:32Speaker 7: so far ahead mentally and he could make decisions correct
- 1:14:35Speaker 7: decisions so quickly that you know, it's just to me,
- 1:14:38Speaker 7: I one hundred percent learned what made this guy special
- 1:14:41Speaker 7: in the eyes of people who truly truly coach this
- 1:14:44Speaker 7: stuff and know it and can break down every last detail.
- 1:14:46Speaker 4: So it was it was awesome. I mean it was
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: the whole time. I'm just sitting there with a dumb smile.
- 1:14:51Speaker 5: My face, like this is so cool, and I don't
- 1:14:53Speaker 5: know if like learn something is the right way, because
- 1:14:55Speaker 5: I think we all saw it and sort of knew
- 1:14:57Speaker 5: we were experiencing it. Maybe came to a pre heated
- 1:15:00Speaker 5: more as the years went on, for sure, But one
- 1:15:03Speaker 5: of the things that really stood out to me was
- 1:15:05Speaker 5: the first Super Bowl, the thirty six, the one against
- 1:15:08Speaker 5: the Rams, and Josh talked about the blitz that he
- 1:15:11Speaker 5: saw and you know, it was kind of a specific
- 1:15:14Speaker 5: overload blitz, and then you know, three or four plays
- 1:15:17Speaker 5: later they tried the same thing and he showed how
- 1:15:21Speaker 5: much more prepared they were for it the second time,
- 1:15:24Speaker 5: and he gave all the credit for that to Tom
- 1:15:27Speaker 5: and he said to Mike and I just he had
- 1:15:31Speaker 5: as long as he saw it once. All he needed
- 1:15:34Speaker 5: was to see at once, and then he had it.
- 1:15:36Speaker 5: And those are cliches that we've always heard, but it
- 1:15:40Speaker 5: was really illustrated in those two plays, and it was
- 1:15:44Speaker 5: he ended up having to throw the ball away early
- 1:15:46Speaker 5: in that you know, that hurry up drive at the end,
- 1:15:49Speaker 5: and then the second time he was able to identify
- 1:15:52Speaker 5: the protections properly, they blocked it up and he made
- 1:15:55Speaker 5: a short completion a wigi. That was the final play
- 1:15:58Speaker 5: before they kicked the field, and I just think it
- 1:16:01Speaker 5: really illustrated how just smart Tom was and how quickly
- 1:16:06Speaker 5: he processed everything.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: Yeah, and I know he's watching it, but it reminds
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: me of those golfers that know every shot that they've had.
- 1:16:12Speaker 5: That's amazing when they do that. Yeah, I was like thirteen,
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: you know, how do you remember every detail of every
- 1:16:19Speaker 5: shot like that?
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: Right? Yeah? Claire Wright's in Hello everyone, Hello Marine. Gotta
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: say I love this all this off season this and
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: I adore that breaking the fourth wall thing. I must
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: tune into the YouTube show more than just audio. So
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: my question, with it being so early, it's difficult to
- 1:16:38Speaker 2: take much away, but what one positive thing do you
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: feel you can take away from what has been seen
- 1:16:44Speaker 2: of the team so far on or off the field.
- 1:16:48Speaker 7: On the field, Drake may looks like a third overall pick,
- 1:16:51Speaker 7: and that's all.
- 1:16:52Speaker 4: I really need to be excited about this team right now.
- 1:16:55Speaker 7: And it might be a long road, but I feel
- 1:16:57Speaker 7: fully on board with him and where he's headed and
- 1:16:59Speaker 7: the kind of kid that he seems to be that
- 1:17:01Speaker 7: got you know, not just him, They've got some young
- 1:17:03Speaker 7: talent around him, and hopefully if these guys develop them,
- 1:17:06Speaker 7: we're you know, we're seeing the early stages of the
- 1:17:08Speaker 7: next really good Patriots teams. I don't know if it's
- 1:17:10Speaker 7: going to be the twenty twenty four Patriots, but you know,
- 1:17:13Speaker 7: you can see there's some bones there to build around
- 1:17:15Speaker 7: if these kids can play, and so far it looks
- 1:17:17Speaker 7: like they can.
- 1:17:18Speaker 3: That one. Yeah, I would agree with just the Drake
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: May part of it. I'm not sure if I'm necessarily
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: as excited about the other pieces, but I think that
- 1:17:26Speaker 3: you just see these these flashes from Drake May on
- 1:17:31Speaker 3: individual throws, like if you if you put up the
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: whole body of work, it's it can be clunky sometimes
- 1:17:36Speaker 3: like today, but these individual moments where you're like, oh wow,
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: like that was that was a pretty thrower. You know,
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: he drops his arm angled down a little bit and
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: throws it through a needle to pop Douglas today in
- 1:17:47Speaker 3: the red zone, and you're like that those types of plays,
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: I don't know if we have seen the quarterbacks make
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: here over the last couple of years and that, and
- 1:17:55Speaker 3: he's making them already in this early stage of things.
- 1:17:59Speaker 3: Like I think that's the most encouraging thing to me,
- 1:18:02Speaker 3: is that we're so early in his career really like
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: a month in to him being a Patriot and he's
- 1:18:07Speaker 3: already doing these types of things.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:18:09Speaker 5: There's no doubt he has more skill than the guy
- 1:18:11Speaker 5: he's replacing. We've seen that already. I would say it's hard,
- 1:18:17Speaker 5: you know, for me, I try not to really look
- 1:18:19Speaker 5: at it that way, but just there's an overall I
- 1:18:22Speaker 5: would say, enthusiasm around the team, you know, among the players,
- 1:18:26Speaker 5: among the coaches, because there's so much newness and I
- 1:18:28Speaker 5: don't think they know any other way. Yeah, I think
- 1:18:30Speaker 5: there's just sort of an unbridled enthusiasm and I think
- 1:18:33Speaker 5: that's kind of been infectious though, you know, a couple
- 1:18:36Speaker 5: of times we've been out there. But yeah, I mean,
- 1:18:39Speaker 5: I think we can see that the skill set that
- 1:18:42Speaker 5: Drake May has now whether or not he can put
- 1:18:44Speaker 5: it together.
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: And I'll say, I know it's got nothing, very little
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: to do with football, and it doesn't win you any games,
- 1:18:51Speaker 2: but the cooperation we have with football now and like
- 1:18:55Speaker 2: the communication flow, and you know, it helps you know,
- 1:18:58Speaker 2: at least our department, you our job, you know, and
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: it's not we're not going to be giving away stage secrets,
- 1:19:03Speaker 2: but but you know, it helps us just play.
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: And I'll say it's nice to ask for something and
- 1:19:08Speaker 5: have them say no. Yeah, like in the past, you
- 1:19:10Speaker 5: just tell her back, but tell us why no, but
- 1:19:14Speaker 5: here's why. And Okay, I get that.
- 1:19:17Speaker 2: But just the cooperation so far and like I said,
- 1:19:20Speaker 2: doesn't win you any games in September. I get it.
- 1:19:23Speaker 2: But you know, we all have to work together well.
- 1:19:25Speaker 7: But as fans of the team, I think you you
- 1:19:27Speaker 7: should probably already see some of the results of you know,
- 1:19:29Speaker 7: some of the miked up stuff that we did. I mean, yeah,
- 1:19:32Speaker 7: I don't know if that Josh thing would have happened,
- 1:19:33Speaker 7: you know, in the old regime. But you know, I
- 1:19:36Speaker 7: think it doesn't necessarily maybe add up and wins and losses.
- 1:19:39Speaker 7: But if you're a fan of this team and you want,
- 1:19:41Speaker 7: like you know, for me, getting to see the quarterback
- 1:19:43Speaker 7: miked up at practice, like you know, usually you'd have
- 1:19:45Speaker 7: to wait four or five years and then they put
- 1:19:47Speaker 7: like we had a Bill Wilchrick miked up. You know,
- 1:19:49Speaker 7: you didn't get that stuff a lot. So I think
- 1:19:51Speaker 7: it's it's you know, it's good for the fair.
- 1:19:52Speaker 2: I know I'll get back to X and the bill
- 1:19:54Speaker 2: bots will be all over me. You know, how many
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: Super Bowls? Okay, all right, Yes, I know it doesn't
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: add up to the straw man.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: You know, would you make fun of me for all
- 1:20:07Speaker 5: the time?
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: Christian in l a Christian. It seems that with the
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: way the schedule is that we struggled to get past
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: five or maybe six games, ESPN has as favorite to
- 1:20:19Speaker 2: win the top draft spot next year. If that's the case. Updated,
- 1:20:24Speaker 2: If that's the case, do we go with a stud
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: by receiver or a stud left tackle. That's what we
- 1:20:28Speaker 2: were just talking about. Pass rush.
- 1:20:30Speaker 3: We're actually number two on their projections Carolina.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: Yeah, well, what was the one I never understood how
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: behind Carolina we're now protected?
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: What was the one that said that Drake May is
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: going to be the worst starting quarterback in the NFL?
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: That was like another one. I did not see this objections. Yeah,
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: I'm angry.
- 1:20:47Speaker 4: Who can possibly know that?
- 1:20:49Speaker 2: But I mean, but first of all, I think, okay,
- 1:20:53Speaker 2: they think he's going to be the starting quarterback.
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: Ye, I would say to be terrible, we should have
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: to win extremely hard for Carson Beck, Shador Sanders. One
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: of these quarterbacks in college has to have one of
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: the Jaden Daniels season so that there's actually a quarterback
- 1:21:09Speaker 3: prize at the top of this draft, because if there
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: isn't and the Patriots are sitting there with the first
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: overall pick and no trade, you.
- 1:21:15Speaker 5: Don't want Jake Long.
- 1:21:17Speaker 3: Yeah, we're in trouble. Yeah, you're gonna take Calvin Banks
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: junior number one overall because you need a left tackle
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: and he's the you know that's the So if you're
- 1:21:26Speaker 3: a Patriots fan, I would be rooting for these quarterbacks
- 1:21:29Speaker 3: in college to actually look good, not because the Patriots
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: are going to draft them, but because it creates a
- 1:21:33Speaker 3: trade market for the pick.
- 1:21:35Speaker 2: Andre New Jersey. I just want to say happy birthday
- 1:21:38Speaker 2: to Paul and New Jersey.
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: Thank you. I got scolded for bringing it up.
- 1:21:48Speaker 2: Please don't retire anytime soon.
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: Well, that can't happen.
- 1:21:58Speaker 2: I saw an email I can't find it now, but
- 1:22:01Speaker 2: someone was asking when does the parking lots open for
- 1:22:04Speaker 2: Brady Day on June twelfth, and will there be tail
- 1:22:08Speaker 2: get here? Three o'clock three pm is when the lots
- 1:22:11Speaker 2: open for Brady Day. And yes, you can tailgate your.
- 1:22:14Speaker 4: Heart away here early.
- 1:22:17Speaker 5: Yep, Fred, out of curiosity, where will you be during
- 1:22:20Speaker 5: Brady Day?
- 1:22:20Speaker 2: I'm going to be roving, roving, Yeah, man of the people. Yeah.
- 1:22:26Speaker 5: The three of us were talking as we were walking
- 1:22:27Speaker 5: out to practice, like exactly what our plan of attack
- 1:22:30Speaker 5: would be.
- 1:22:30Speaker 3: Yeah, where to go. He's got fans that he's got
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: to see.
- 1:22:34Speaker 2: I just want to know. We have a lot going on.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: That's going to be a huge content day for us. Yeah, sure, yeah, yeah,
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: And as you know, content is king, it is it is.
- 1:22:45Speaker 4: We'll be live in the morning.
- 1:22:46Speaker 7: I mean it's going to be we should do like
- 1:22:47Speaker 7: a full twenty four hour live network right again, we do.
- 1:22:51Speaker 3: That again to an afternoon Starbucks.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: I heard it was a lot of fun.
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: Yeah, it was quite an accomplishment.
- 1:22:58Speaker 7: Started at seven am and we go to seven pm,
- 1:23:01Speaker 7: right to the start whole week.
- 1:23:04Speaker 2: Nathan in Monterey, Mexico. Uh, he says, okay, real football.
- 1:23:09Speaker 3: Talk, and I will take a step back. All of
- 1:23:14Speaker 3: you can just.
- 1:23:15Speaker 2: Uh and and he's saying that sarcastically. Not once you
- 1:23:18Speaker 2: hear the question number one, what will be the first
- 1:23:22Speaker 2: touchdown celebration dance that Drake May does?
- 1:23:26Speaker 5: Does he have those things?
- 1:23:28Speaker 9: No?
- 1:23:29Speaker 3: Honestly, he's not a big touchdown celebration guy that like
- 1:23:32Speaker 3: more of like that Brady like excitement, but not like
- 1:23:36Speaker 3: it's not like he has like he's not gonna gritty,
- 1:23:37Speaker 3: like he's not gonna have like a signature. I don't think.
- 1:23:40Speaker 2: Did you see the thing with Mac Jones.
- 1:23:41Speaker 4: And I thought he looked a little portly. I'm not
- 1:23:43Speaker 4: gonna lie.
- 1:23:45Speaker 5: My guess is Fred now agrees he's now wearing someone
- 1:23:48Speaker 5: else's fine. He was physically he was chubby. I mean,
- 1:23:52Speaker 5: I shouldn't cast stones, I know, but he didn't.
- 1:23:56Speaker 4: I'll put it this way.
- 1:23:57Speaker 7: He didn't have the look of me of like, whoa
- 1:23:59Speaker 7: Mac is in killer ship right now? And he's down
- 1:24:00Speaker 7: there to compete for a job. It looks like he's
- 1:24:02Speaker 7: settling into the veteran backup role.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: Nice back home mom's cooking, right, that's probably it. The
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: ice cream number two over under for number of Patriots
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: offensive linemen wearing Guardian caps in week one and a
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: under under.
- 1:24:16Speaker 5: I hope under, I don't think you're going to see.
- 1:24:19Speaker 2: Oh this is in the games.
- 1:24:20Speaker 5: Yeah, they have to wear them in practice, right right?
- 1:24:23Speaker 2: Yeah, in the games, I say, under, I don't think
- 1:24:25Speaker 2: they it's how you look, bad, bad, how it's how
- 1:24:29Speaker 2: you look.
- 1:24:30Speaker 3: It's so true. Anesthetic is terrible.
- 1:24:33Speaker 6: Uh.
- 1:24:34Speaker 2: Jabrill Peppers leads locker room celebration chant yes or no.
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: That's a big question. Who's going to take over for Slater.
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: I think they're going to do away with the haw.
- 1:24:45Speaker 3: Me agree, I agree. I think they're going to do
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: something different myself agree. Yeah, you know what, you know what,
- 1:24:51Speaker 3: I was thinking.
- 1:24:52Speaker 7: To myself a little bit, A little bit, uh, I
- 1:24:56Speaker 7: you know what. I don't get my my current my
- 1:24:58Speaker 7: son's current little league team, don't get how to like,
- 1:25:00Speaker 7: all right, Mets on three and then everybody says one,
- 1:25:03Speaker 7: two three Mets. I'm like, guys, like, where do we
- 1:25:06Speaker 7: lose this along the way? One person says one two three,
- 1:25:09Speaker 7: and then we all say Mets together, but this has got.
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: Where are we Everyone's like, okay, everyone goes one two
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: three Mets.
- 1:25:17Speaker 5: Do you have a database that records what the Mets
- 1:25:20Speaker 5: coach actually wears every game?
- 1:25:21Speaker 3: Do you guys play the trumpet? Maybe perhaps no Mets.
- 1:25:28Speaker 7: No, we're not like the real Mets like that. We're
- 1:25:30Speaker 7: just the little league Mets that's kicking everybody.
- 1:25:32Speaker 2: Mets great, I used to that's one of them. I
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: think that's one of the best.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: That is a good Yeah, that is a good one.
- 1:25:40Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:25:40Speaker 3: One years on like the Orioles or something like that.
- 1:25:43Speaker 3: It's like, I'm a Red Sox fan. You know, I
- 1:25:44Speaker 3: was like mad, You never do the local teams.
- 1:25:46Speaker 7: You always have like like we're the NL West whatever
- 1:25:49Speaker 7: it is, or an least with the Red Sox. Didn't
- 1:25:52Speaker 7: everybody get pissed we want to.
- 1:25:54Speaker 2: Be That's not father was in charge of the league.
- 1:25:57Speaker 5: Oh no, no, no, this is I'm talking about little
- 1:25:59Speaker 5: league in peabd Bye. I actually was on the Red
- 1:26:01Speaker 5: Sox when I was younger. I was on the Dodgers
- 1:26:03Speaker 5: and the Miners and Red Sox and the Majors.
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: Brady's feeling like big puppy. Oh, by the way, the
- 1:26:08Speaker 2: orioles to Brian Morey, uh, former w cast member who
- 1:26:13Speaker 2: is now the head coach of the Sandwich High School
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: baseball team. They won their first round in the playoffs
- 1:26:19Speaker 2: ten nothing over to Conic. I didn't even know that
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: was a team.
- 1:26:23Speaker 3: Evidently it's not.
- 1:26:26Speaker 7: Drive last year, basically Albany, New York, all the way
- 1:26:29Speaker 7: to Cape Cod to play.
- 1:26:31Speaker 5: It's so absurd, the new the New State tournament is
- 1:26:34Speaker 5: so absurd.
- 1:26:35Speaker 2: Yeah, but ten nothing so good start there. And the
- 1:26:38Speaker 2: final question, does Evan shed a tier when Drake May
- 1:26:42Speaker 2: wins his first game?
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: Yes, or no.
- 1:26:45Speaker 2: Shed a teer joy.
- 1:26:47Speaker 5: I think if if that was like in week one,
- 1:26:51Speaker 5: oh geez, I think we could see it.
- 1:26:53Speaker 3: Yeah, But if it's.
- 1:26:55Speaker 5: If it's like the third winning the season and like
- 1:26:57Speaker 5: week you know, eighteen, tears a little strong, tears are strong.
- 1:27:01Speaker 3: But you know, I gotta tell you, I I'm just
- 1:27:07Speaker 3: I'm not with Fred yet that there's like the doors
- 1:27:10Speaker 3: it's cracked open for him to start a lot. I
- 1:27:13Speaker 3: just say sooner.
- 1:27:14Speaker 5: There's nobody that's rooting for you two to be right
- 1:27:16Speaker 5: and me and Mike to be wrong more than I
- 1:27:18Speaker 5: just it's cracked open.
- 1:27:20Speaker 3: I'm not ready to like annoying him yet.
- 1:27:22Speaker 5: I would love it if he legitimately has a chance
- 1:27:24Speaker 5: to start right away. Yeah, I would love that. I
- 1:27:28Speaker 5: just don't think it's going to happen.
- 1:27:29Speaker 3: I think it's not going to happen because they have
- 1:27:31Speaker 3: a plan, right, That's that's my point. But could he
- 1:27:35Speaker 3: bust that plan open?
- 1:27:36Speaker 2: Right? That's what you're hoping your third overall pick does?
- 1:27:40Speaker 3: I just well, I've also seen no evidence that that's
- 1:27:43Speaker 3: like coming either. But I think that there's a chance
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: that they look at it and say, let's give it
- 1:27:50Speaker 3: a month just to see where all the other Ducks
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: are in a row offensive line, you know who emerges
- 1:27:55Speaker 3: that receiver, all this other stuff. But in our back pocket,
- 1:27:59Speaker 3: we kind of really know that Drake's going to start
- 1:28:01Speaker 3: the majority of the games, but we're just not We
- 1:28:04Speaker 3: want to see how it looks for the majority. You
- 1:28:06Speaker 3: think I'll even take that. I'll even take that starting
- 1:28:09Speaker 3: to lean towards majority.
- 1:28:11Speaker 2: Okay, Travis in Watertown, Connecticut. I took my son to
- 1:28:15Speaker 2: open training camp last summer. We had a blast. Do
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: you know if the new regime will be continuing that
- 1:28:20Speaker 2: experience for the Pats fawns, So, well, that's an NFL thing.
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: There will be open training camp that you can go to,
- 1:28:26Speaker 2: and he says, assuming they will, what dates will be
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: open to the public. We're hoping to make it up
- 1:28:30Speaker 2: for some autographs. So I'm told that we'll be able
- 1:28:35Speaker 2: to get the whole training camp schedule out ahead of time.
- 1:28:39Speaker 2: So in the past, you know, we dribble out one
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: or two days and then four days, and but I'm
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: told that we're going to get the whole schedule of
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: when you can come, so you can make your plans
- 1:28:51Speaker 2: ahead of time. That probably will come maybe right after
- 1:28:54Speaker 2: Mini camp, they might come out with that.
- 1:28:56Speaker 7: So that guy that's going to the third preseason game too,
- 1:28:58Speaker 7: I would say, try to get to practice.
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: I mean, that's but he's in Washington.
- 1:29:02Speaker 4: He's in Washington.
- 1:29:03Speaker 7: Oh sorry, yeah, I apologize, Yeah, I apologize.
- 1:29:07Speaker 5: That's the Rob Bradford ism. Yeah, I apologize. Let's see,
- 1:29:12Speaker 5: I don't want I don't want you to get finger whacked.
- 1:29:15Speaker 2: Let's see. This is Max writing in greetings from Chili,
- 1:29:19Speaker 2: Santa Barbara. Chili beautiful as the June Gloom, great works
- 1:29:26Speaker 2: as the June Gloom lurks over the coastal region. I
- 1:29:29Speaker 2: just wanted to say, excellent feature with Paul, Mike and
- 1:29:31Speaker 2: Josh breaking down Brady's top plays from Super Bowls. Well,
- 1:29:34Speaker 2: they weren't all from super Bowls, were they?
- 1:29:36Speaker 5: No? No.
- 1:29:38Speaker 2: Also, Evan seems ready for his close up with his
- 1:29:41Speaker 2: appearance in the schedule video. And finally, Fred that crack
- 1:29:44Speaker 2: about Paul's blood being so carbonated that if he ate
- 1:29:47Speaker 2: a mentos he'd explode. That was probably somebody else I
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: was going that was a listener. Was maybe the funniest
- 1:29:53Speaker 2: thing ever said on this show. Excellent among a million
- 1:29:56Speaker 2: ball busting cracks I've heard since I've been listening since
- 1:29:59Speaker 2: twenty three, two thousand and three. Also listener, congrats Fred
- 1:30:03Speaker 2: on hanging on to Paul's amiss, all the other free
- 1:30:06Speaker 2: agent departures through the years and always putting together a
- 1:30:09Speaker 2: great team. Well, thank you, thank you.
- 1:30:11Speaker 5: I think there was a compliment in there, but kind
- 1:30:13Speaker 5: of a left handed one. Yeah, everybody else left the
- 1:30:19Speaker 5: one that was left behind?
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: Yeah, uh, Tyler, Tyler and Providence, this is the one
- 1:30:25Speaker 2: about left for success.
- 1:30:27Speaker 3: Seriously, you need to get out of that.
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: Well, yeah, it sounds like Kyrie Irving. Yes, it's the
- 1:30:33Speaker 2: new board. Yeah, you don't have the any base in there.
- 1:30:37Speaker 2: I think it's.
- 1:30:40Speaker 4: Yeah, did you adjust a knob?
- 1:30:42Speaker 3: Damn Lapan?
- 1:30:43Speaker 2: Yeah, Tyler and Providence wants to know. I'm wondering if
- 1:30:49Speaker 2: you guys could give some background details on my favorite
- 1:30:52Speaker 2: sound drop from PFW past. It was good News out
- 1:30:55Speaker 2: of Orlando, Florida. Dale Earnhardt died. That wasn't from this show.
- 1:30:59Speaker 3: Was an e I drop that we stole.
- 1:31:01Speaker 2: Yeah, that was now Pete Shepherd Shepherd.
- 1:31:07Speaker 3: Good News.
- 1:31:10Speaker 2: Pet Shepherd did have a show on on the Patriots
- 1:31:13Speaker 2: dot Com. He did, but he did not say it
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: during that show. He said it on his on the
- 1:31:19Speaker 2: doing it wasn't it was. It was like like, you know,
- 1:31:24Speaker 2: you're doing the news, so between segments and he's like,
- 1:31:27Speaker 2: good news out at Daytona dale Ardheart died and it's like,
- 1:31:30Speaker 2: you know, immediately he knew what the hell, but it
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: was so sad news.
- 1:31:34Speaker 4: Sad news.
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: Yeah, that's very Uh what's the.
- 1:31:41Speaker 5: Unfortunate?
- 1:31:42Speaker 2: Now, who's the guy that Farrell plays? Rond put it
- 1:31:50Speaker 2: Ron Burgundi is Dorian and Baltimore. This is about to
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: kick off rule. How do you guys feel about teams
- 1:31:58Speaker 2: like the Chiefs potentially using players that aren't kickers for
- 1:32:01Speaker 2: kickoffs to have a more sure tackler on the field.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: The Chiefs are allowing their safety to kick for kickoffs
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: because he can indeed kick far.
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: Yeah, he's pretty cool.
- 1:32:11Speaker 3: It's just different because Justin Reid actually can kick kick it. Yeah,
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: so like it would be it's like if Jabriel Pepper
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: has just started kicking the ball but he shanks every
- 1:32:20Speaker 3: single kick, then it's not the same thing. Justin Reid's
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: actually kicked in games in games and has a decent leg.
- 1:32:26Speaker 3: So it's so they have a unique player.
- 1:32:29Speaker 5: I think if you have that opportunity if you have
- 1:32:31Speaker 5: that option that someone can kick well enough to get
- 1:32:34Speaker 5: it into where you want it to go. That makes
- 1:32:37Speaker 5: some sense to have eleven tacklers on the field.
- 1:32:39Speaker 4: That'd be fun, like a new position.
- 1:32:41Speaker 7: Almost.
- 1:32:41Speaker 2: Yeah, I want to do some Would you rathers oh, maybe, okay,
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: a little off Jason preseason? Would you rather game one?
- 1:32:49Speaker 2: Would you rather see Barmore have fifty one QB pressures
- 1:32:53Speaker 2: which averages out to three a game, or key on
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: White have twenty five solo tackles for loss, which is
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: one and a half for twenty five for los Okay,
- 1:33:04Speaker 2: with that one, I wanted a Hay per game.
- 1:33:06Speaker 3: That that would like lead the league if he had
- 1:33:09Speaker 3: twenty five, I do it.
- 1:33:11Speaker 5: Where does the fifty one pressures come?
- 1:33:13Speaker 2: I don't know. Free per game?
- 1:33:14Speaker 5: That seems like a lot. Like that seems like you
- 1:33:16Speaker 5: put a lot of impact on the other team's passing game.
- 1:33:18Speaker 5: It is a lot, and I would think that's more
- 1:33:20Speaker 5: important than just to tackle for loss.
- 1:33:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I can't wait, lot.
- 1:33:23Speaker 5: Oh yeah, either way, you had a monster year for
- 1:33:26Speaker 5: either guy.
- 1:33:27Speaker 4: I'll take the new the new superstar. Can't wait?
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: Okay, all right, So I think i'd rather have the
- 1:33:32Speaker 2: bar Wark me too.
- 1:33:33Speaker 3: But Deuce is really selling me on Crosby led the
- 1:33:36Speaker 3: league and tackles for loss with twenty three, So if
- 1:33:39Speaker 3: Kean White had that many, he would lead the league
- 1:33:41Speaker 3: in tactics for loss. So that's not happening. So Barn,
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: we're getting fifty one pressure?
- 1:33:45Speaker 2: What what you Which would you rather say? Not about?
- 1:33:48Speaker 2: Which is more likely?
- 1:33:49Speaker 5: What's more impowerful on earth?
- 1:33:54Speaker 7: Unless it comes to Pam Beasley's relationships and then I'm invested.
- 1:33:57Speaker 5: It's amazing how he cannot deal with play the game.
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: If has that season, he's gonna be a first team Also,
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: you'd rather have that and you don't want it?
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: There's your answer?
- 1:34:08Speaker 4: You unrealistic.
- 1:34:10Speaker 3: He's Aaron Donald.
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: Now would you rather have Remandre with fourteen hundred yards
- 1:34:17Speaker 2: rushing with rushing downs or Jalen Polk have nine hundred
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: yards receiving with eight touchdown?
- 1:34:23Speaker 7: Pok Pok Pok pok polk A little bit more realistic.
- 1:34:29Speaker 2: Okay, you are talking on the air, Matt. We can
- 1:34:31Speaker 2: hear everything you're saying. Three would you rather have Judan
- 1:34:39Speaker 2: and Uch combined for twenty five sacks? Or Gonzo and
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: Jonathan Jones combined for ten interceptions?
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: How many sacks twenty five combined.
- 1:34:49Speaker 4: I'm gonna go interceptions.
- 1:34:50Speaker 7: Yeah, I think I'm gonna go interceptions with eleven.
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: I think, yeah, how many?
- 1:34:55Speaker 5: I'm sorry, twenty five many conversation that's what that's what
- 1:34:59Speaker 5: that's what's getting to.
- 1:35:00Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh so twenty five sacks come by how many picks? Ten?
- 1:35:05Speaker 4: That's not a lot.
- 1:35:07Speaker 2: Oh five each is not bad?
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: Yeah, it's not that.
- 1:35:10Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I'm gonna go with the sacks. I
- 1:35:12Speaker 5: think that impacts more passing players.
- 1:35:13Speaker 2: Okay, probably, and hopefully you can hurt somebody.
- 1:35:16Speaker 5: Oh man, we don't want to do that.
- 1:35:18Speaker 3: Go there, How do you do that?
- 1:35:19Speaker 2: Because you like it?
- 1:35:20Speaker 5: You like that?
- 1:35:22Speaker 2: Would you rather have Jude on, we just did that one.
- 1:35:25Speaker 2: Would you rather see set have ten touchdowns through six games?
- 1:35:29Speaker 2: Or may play ten games regardless of performance, may play
- 1:35:33Speaker 2: ten games.
- 1:35:35Speaker 5: Regardless regardless Teadless Kober said, we just want nothing to
- 1:35:41Speaker 5: do well after today.
- 1:35:43Speaker 4: It was kind of like, what are we going to
- 1:35:44Speaker 4: do with this guy?
- 1:35:45Speaker 5: For you? Well, if you told me like twenty touchdowns
- 1:35:47Speaker 5: through six games and I'm like, okay, now he's not
- 1:35:50Speaker 5: like he's ripping it up.
- 1:35:51Speaker 3: Yeah. I just think when we say the door is
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: like cracked open. It's because if they're equal, then you
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: play the younger guy, right and right now, Jacoby Brissett
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: is not doing anything that blows you away to be like, oh,
- 1:36:04Speaker 3: he's head and shoulders better than Drake May Right now,
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: I just can't say that I'd rather see Drake.
- 1:36:10Speaker 2: Yeah, Jacob writes in from Orange County, you know where
- 1:36:15Speaker 2: that is very well?
- 1:36:17Speaker 3: Well, the question is does he know Jacob?
- 1:36:19Speaker 4: Well, not not personally, no, but I've heard about him.
- 1:36:23Speaker 2: You know, No, Jacob, you know that they call the
- 1:36:25Speaker 2: Orange County the o C.
- 1:36:27Speaker 5: I want to know that.
- 1:36:28Speaker 4: Welcome to the o C.
- 1:36:29Speaker 3: Misha Barton.
- 1:36:30Speaker 5: Do you know that that scripted the show, the Old
- 1:36:34Speaker 5: Regular Show. It wasn't a reality show, Rachel Bilson and
- 1:36:41Speaker 5: there was another.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: Who's the guy? What's the guy's name?
- 1:36:43Speaker 7: Seth?
- 1:36:44Speaker 2: Yeah? What was his name?
- 1:36:44Speaker 5: Seth Cohen was his name on the show. But Adam
- 1:36:47Speaker 5: Brody Adam Brody good. Yeah, it wasn't a bad It
- 1:36:50Speaker 5: was one of my show's friend. It's one of my
- 1:36:52Speaker 5: stories when you program even didn't watch it because it
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: didn't stream.
- 1:36:56Speaker 3: You're a big soaps guy was on Fox. Didn't know
- 1:36:58Speaker 3: that I used to.
- 1:37:00Speaker 5: That wasn't really soap, But I did back in the day.
- 1:37:02Speaker 5: I was in college, right, yeah, college days.
- 1:37:04Speaker 3: Are our lives.
- 1:37:05Speaker 4: I watched the Little Days.
- 1:37:06Speaker 5: But I loved Santa Oh Barbara. I loved Robin Wright.
- 1:37:09Speaker 5: That's where I invented.
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: She was in you invented Robin Forest.
- 1:37:14Speaker 5: This was before Forrest Co.
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: It was in the eighties.
- 1:37:17Speaker 4: Get on my level.
- 1:37:19Speaker 5: She is stunningly beautiful.
- 1:37:21Speaker 2: All right? Did you ever have a poster of a
- 1:37:23Speaker 2: woman on your wall in your bedroom?
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: Negative? Ghost rider?
- 1:37:27Speaker 7: I had a swimsuit calendar that my dad got signed
- 1:37:30Speaker 7: by Kathy Ireland when she came to rebook, and so
- 1:37:33Speaker 7: for one year I had a swimsuit with Kathy Ireland.
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: Was just like stay that it's stayed on Kathy Ireland.
- 1:37:38Speaker 7: I think we went back to Kathy Ireland after the
- 1:37:40Speaker 7: year her paulinapores Co.
- 1:37:42Speaker 3: Those are my Those are my Taffy Ireland.
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: That's leg I didn't have.
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: Would you don't know who Kathy Ireland is?
- 1:37:49Speaker 5: She was actually in a football I know, I would
- 1:37:51Speaker 5: think you'd know what necessary roughness?
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: What's called necessary?
- 1:37:54Speaker 4: Scott that one?
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: Yeah, he was the quarterback she was. That sounds terrible,
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: it was, but it was great at the same time
- 1:38:04Speaker 3: she was the kicker. Yeah, there's terribly great.
- 1:38:08Speaker 2: Uh, Jacob in the OC Anyway, I've been listening to
- 1:38:12Speaker 2: for years and have noticed you never talk about the
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: long snapper position. My son is a long snapper in college,
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: which is honestly the only reason I have an interest
- 1:38:21Speaker 2: in the position. What are your takes on the current
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: snapper the Patriots have. I'm a pool guy and it's
- 1:38:27Speaker 2: a pretty solitary gig. Listening to you all really makes
- 1:38:31Speaker 2: my day better. Well that's great, Well, it's it's still
- 1:38:35Speaker 2: Joe Cordona until further right.
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: A lot to make long snappers matter.
- 1:38:40Speaker 2: I'm here for it, Okay.
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: I think that what we need to do is really
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: have some advanced metrics, you know, some analytics into long snappers,
- 1:38:49Speaker 3: and really the biggest one is operation time, Like how
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: long does it actually take snap whole kick? And that's
- 1:38:56Speaker 3: what really they judge these guys off of. Like, obviously
- 1:38:59Speaker 3: accuracy of snap is important too, uh, but it's more
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: importantly once you get to this level, since most of
- 1:39:05Speaker 3: them are accurate ninety nine point nine percent of the time,
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: it's really how fast it gets back to the snapper
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: and how quickly the whole operation goes.
- 1:39:12Speaker 4: Cory, do you INJEARI Paul, No, No, that's not one.
- 1:39:16Speaker 5: I think Cardon is fine.
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: Card is fine. I agree.
- 1:39:19Speaker 2: Uh this uh, this is Dan in Boston. He's got
- 1:39:22Speaker 2: a long email about and it's a rant about Gerard.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: And so when you're not going to read it, No,
- 1:39:28Speaker 2: I'm not going to read the whole thing, it's too long.
- 1:39:30Speaker 2: But to encapsulate it, he said Gerard has basically given
- 1:39:35Speaker 2: fans no confidence in his ability to be a head coach.
- 1:39:38Speaker 2: And he goes on about the things he said.
- 1:39:40Speaker 3: It's literally coach zero games.
- 1:39:42Speaker 2: Yeah, like we don't know if he's going to be
- 1:39:46Speaker 2: a good head coach.
- 1:39:47Speaker 3: He doesn't know.
- 1:39:47Speaker 5: He said, what are some of the reasons why he
- 1:39:50Speaker 5: doesn't have any confidence?
- 1:39:51Speaker 2: Things He says, like, you know, I'm leaning on other
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: people to teach me things. Uh, let's see talk about
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: having all these coaches, but never about how he manages them. Uh,
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: talks about being a rookie head coach, needing to learn.
- 1:40:10Speaker 2: He seems to have no attention to detail. I don't
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: know why. He says that.
- 1:40:14Speaker 5: It's like, this is why I wanted to know some
- 1:40:15Speaker 5: of the reasons, Like most of those don't really make
- 1:40:19Speaker 5: a lot of sense. What have you've seen that says
- 1:40:20Speaker 5: he doesn't have attention to detail?
- 1:40:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I did think. I asked him about it this
- 1:40:24Speaker 3: morning because he had done that interview with Sebastiman Volmer
- 1:40:27Speaker 3: for deutsch Land and he mentioned about wanting to be
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: a CEO coach more than a you know, he's not
- 1:40:36Speaker 3: calling to d DeMarcus Covington is gonna call it. Even
- 1:40:39Speaker 3: I thought that whole thing is a little interesting, just
- 1:40:42Speaker 3: because as a rookie head coach, you don't really have
- 1:40:46Speaker 3: the bill thing where you're gonna just have your hands
- 1:40:48Speaker 3: in every single pod and be able to know what
- 1:40:50Speaker 3: exactly you're talking about. So a lot of these rookie
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: head coaches or young head coaches typically just say I'm
- 1:40:57Speaker 3: gonna call plays on offense, gonna call plays on defense.
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: I'll just use the rams for an example. I'm Sean McVay,
- 1:41:04Speaker 3: I'm thirty six years old, I just got the job.
- 1:41:06Speaker 3: I'm gonna hire Wade Phillips to be my defensive coordinator.
- 1:41:10Speaker 3: He's here's the defense, you do your thing. I'm gonna
- 1:41:13Speaker 3: call the offense because that's my specialty. And it's almost
- 1:41:16Speaker 3: like you have two head coaches in a way, like
- 1:41:18Speaker 3: you have a head coach of the offense head coach
- 1:41:20Speaker 3: of the defense, whereas Girod is doing the bill thing,
- 1:41:23Speaker 3: which is he's gonna be the CEO and he's gonna
- 1:41:25Speaker 3: delegate all these different things. I just think it's interesting
- 1:41:28Speaker 3: that he's decided to go that way. I'm not saying
- 1:41:30Speaker 3: it's gonna necessarily be a bad thing, but since he
- 1:41:33Speaker 3: does admit that he doesn't know offense, like I.
- 1:41:35Speaker 7: Don't really Yeah, I think i'd be a little bit
- 1:41:37Speaker 7: more thrown if he was like, I'm gonna call plays now.
- 1:41:39Speaker 7: I don't know why, but it just seems like that
- 1:41:41Speaker 7: would be something even new for him.
- 1:41:42Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'm with Mike. I kind of like that man.
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: He ended up by saying, I'm just saying the early
- 1:41:49Speaker 2: warning signs of being a bad head coach are apparent,
- 1:41:52Speaker 2: and I hope you guys see.
- 1:41:53Speaker 5: Them too, Okay, Like, yeah, I'm not sure I'm there.
- 1:41:58Speaker 2: For a guy who's never been a head coach, what
- 1:42:00Speaker 2: are the warning signs that he's going to be a
- 1:42:03Speaker 2: bad head coach or even a good head coach? I mean,
- 1:42:06Speaker 2: like someone who's never done it before, Like, what, what
- 1:42:10Speaker 2: are you judging them by you know, I don't know,
- 1:42:13Speaker 2: like mcveigh's a good example. And I was thinking that
- 1:42:15Speaker 2: about that exact thing when I was outside that, you know,
- 1:42:19Speaker 2: when when Gerard was doing his press conference today talking
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: about how he's leaning on Alex van Pelt and you know,
- 1:42:24Speaker 2: because he doesn't know, you know, offense, so you know,
- 1:42:27Speaker 2: he's learning. And I can understand where. You know, he's
- 1:42:31Speaker 2: the head coach. You want him to be confident and
- 1:42:33Speaker 2: you know, have all the answers, but maybe most coaches
- 1:42:38Speaker 2: aren't honest who are first year head coaches and they're
- 1:42:41Speaker 2: afraid to say that, and maybe in his maybe he's
- 1:42:44Speaker 2: just not afraid to say, I don't know, I'm learning.
- 1:42:47Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 1:42:47Speaker 3: His response to the question was kind of interesting. Yeah,
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: he said that he first he said that, and I'm paraphrasing,
- 1:42:54Speaker 3: but basically he suggested that the coaches that call players
- 1:42:57Speaker 3: are trying to protect their own job security, which I
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: didn't we understand, don't. I don't really understand it either.
- 1:43:03Speaker 5: I think I put you more in the crosshairs because
- 1:43:05Speaker 5: now it's more on.
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: We can blame you. Hey, stinks it's your fault, right,
- 1:43:09Speaker 3: I don't know. I thought that was that was interesting too.
- 1:43:13Speaker 3: I'm not with the emailer by any means. No, I'm
- 1:43:15Speaker 3: not either.
- 1:43:15Speaker 5: I just and I'm not saying the email is wrong.
- 1:43:18Speaker 5: I'm just saying I don't look at some of the
- 1:43:20Speaker 5: examples that he gave as being indications that he will
- 1:43:23Speaker 5: not be a good head.
- 1:43:23Speaker 3: Coach right now.
- 1:43:24Speaker 7: And I think the only thing you could ask of
- 1:43:26Speaker 7: him is the only thing that we've heard from. Some
- 1:43:28Speaker 7: of the other coaches from New England that have failed
- 1:43:30Speaker 7: have been trying to be Bill and say what you
- 1:43:32Speaker 7: will about your row. But I don't think in any
- 1:43:34Speaker 7: sense he's trying to be Bill right now. No, he's
- 1:43:36Speaker 7: trying to be himself. He's trying to omit what he
- 1:43:38Speaker 7: doesn't know. You know, a lot of these techniques and stuff.
- 1:43:41Speaker 7: It's all like modern leadership study. All that kind of
- 1:43:45Speaker 7: stuff is everything that he's trying to integrate, you know,
- 1:43:48Speaker 7: from pictures in the locker room to all that stuff. So,
- 1:43:51Speaker 7: I mean, Paul's right, like you know, we said it
- 1:43:53Speaker 7: like when Bill was going to leave, Like there are
- 1:43:55Speaker 7: a lot of different ways that a coach can work
- 1:43:57Speaker 7: that can get guys to play hard and get the
- 1:43:59Speaker 7: organization and you know, all together pushing in the same direction,
- 1:44:02Speaker 7: so there's no guarantee.
- 1:44:03Speaker 4: I just I don't really get the vibe.
- 1:44:05Speaker 2: I don't know. I think it's just as bad to say,
- 1:44:07Speaker 2: I know he's going to be a great coach. Oh,
- 1:44:09Speaker 2: how would you know that?
- 1:44:10Speaker 3: Absolutely?
- 1:44:11Speaker 2: And how do you know he's going to be a
- 1:44:12Speaker 2: bad coach?
- 1:44:13Speaker 5: Like to Mike's point, like, and I do look at it.
- 1:44:17Speaker 5: I think that would be an example of one of
- 1:44:18Speaker 5: the things that worries me is that I think you
- 1:44:20Speaker 5: said he's like really a lot of corporate speak, a
- 1:44:23Speaker 5: lot of you know, you know, the business kind of jargon,
- 1:44:26Speaker 5: leader of men kind of like that worries me, Like
- 1:44:28Speaker 5: the men, you know. I think he had a comment
- 1:44:30Speaker 5: about a month ago about he wants the players to
- 1:44:32Speaker 5: run the team, and I'm not sure that football works
- 1:44:35Speaker 5: that way. Well now, there are a lot of ways
- 1:44:37Speaker 5: to do it, but I'm not sure that you can
- 1:44:40Speaker 5: be just sort of hands off, no no, and let
- 1:44:44Speaker 5: let it police itself.
- 1:44:45Speaker 2: Well that's the thing, I you know, I wish there
- 1:44:48Speaker 2: was more follow up to some of these things he
- 1:44:50Speaker 2: says and be able to delve into it, because I
- 1:44:52Speaker 2: don't know if he means it this way, but we
- 1:44:55Speaker 2: all know that. At least I've heard Ernie Adams say, like,
- 1:45:00Speaker 2: when did you know that this Patriots team in the
- 1:45:02Speaker 2: early two thousands, when the locker room started to police itself,
- 1:45:06Speaker 2: When that's when we knew, Okay, we've got a team
- 1:45:10Speaker 2: and maybe that type of mindset. Because Ernie was here,
- 1:45:13Speaker 2: when Gerard was here, he heard that, and he knows
- 1:45:16Speaker 2: that's the sign of a good team when a team
- 1:45:19Speaker 2: can police itself and you have the guys on your
- 1:45:21Speaker 2: team that are enforcers.
- 1:45:23Speaker 5: So why do you think it got to that point?
- 1:45:26Speaker 2: Because Bill brought in the right people exactly.
- 1:45:29Speaker 5: There was a discipline established by the coaches that eventually
- 1:45:33Speaker 5: the players said, hey, listen, we can screw around all
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: we want, but it's only going to end up getting
- 1:45:38Speaker 5: us in trouble. So we might as well just do
- 1:45:40Speaker 5: it the way he wants it done. And now we're
- 1:45:42Speaker 5: policing ourselves, right, I'm worried that, Well, you guys do
- 1:45:45Speaker 5: what you want, and I'm not I'm exaggerating on purpose.
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: Yeah, I am not.
- 1:45:50Speaker 5: You know, naive to think that Drod May was just
- 1:45:52Speaker 5: like in a country club every day.
- 1:45:54Speaker 2: I don't. And That's why I'd like to delve into
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: like what he means by.
- 1:45:57Speaker 5: But I do wonder that if you know, you establishing
- 1:46:00Speaker 5: up front that you have enough discipline to then get
- 1:46:03Speaker 5: to the point where your team can run it side.
- 1:46:05Speaker 2: In order to do what he wants to do, you
- 1:46:07Speaker 2: have to have those players.
- 1:46:09Speaker 7: Yeah, well, there's a difference between having your players take
- 1:46:11Speaker 7: ownership and the inmates running the asylum, right, Like that's
- 1:46:13Speaker 7: like kind of the disparity.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: But I yeah, if your best players an Tonio Brown,
- 1:46:18Speaker 2: you're in trouble.
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: I mean perfect perfectly put.
- 1:46:21Speaker 7: But I do think if you're taking you know, a
- 1:46:23Speaker 7: look at this team and looking at modern you know,
- 1:46:26Speaker 7: what we know about psychology and what they talk about
- 1:46:28Speaker 7: of how to you know, empower people to do these things. Like,
- 1:46:30Speaker 7: that's the route he's taking right now. He's taking a
- 1:46:32Speaker 7: very modern approach to empowering people to take ownership of this.
- 1:46:36Speaker 7: But it's still football, and that's and that's and that's fair.
- 1:46:40Speaker 7: That's fair. You know, there's like like we said, I mean,
- 1:46:43Speaker 7: hard ass coach, Lucy goosey coach. Both can kind of win.
- 1:46:46Speaker 7: But you know, I think he needs the players he
- 1:46:48Speaker 7: needs to play. And again, it goes back to the
- 1:46:50Speaker 7: star players to set the tone, and if Drake may
- 1:46:52Speaker 7: is a star and he's continuing to do what he
- 1:46:54Speaker 7: does every time, where he's throwing passes with guys we have,
- 1:46:57Speaker 7: you know, if that's continuing to happen while he's a
- 1:46:59Speaker 7: starter and he's in the locker room, you know, first
- 1:47:01Speaker 7: guy and all that kind of stuff, like it doesn't
- 1:47:03Speaker 7: really matter. I think what Girod Mayo was trying to
- 1:47:05Speaker 7: do is, you know, almost make the sow the fields
- 1:47:07Speaker 7: so these things can happen hopefully, But if he doesn't
- 1:47:10Speaker 7: get star players.
- 1:47:11Speaker 4: I don't know if it's gonna be really matter.
- 1:47:12Speaker 3: I just wonder how much of it stems from the
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: fact that when I think of Gerrod Mayo as a coach,
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: and I'm not saying that he doesn't know any x's
- 1:47:19Speaker 3: and o's and he doesn't have any chops, like, I'm
- 1:47:21Speaker 3: not saying that at all, but I don't think of
- 1:47:23Speaker 3: him in the same light of like a Mike McDaniel
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: or like even a Tamiko Ryans tight pants. Well sure,
- 1:47:30Speaker 3: but also just that he's not one of these like
- 1:47:33Speaker 3: whiz kid schematic geniuses, right that these people are, and
- 1:47:38Speaker 3: so his his like plus trait as a coach is
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: like his leadership ability and and his gravitas, and that
- 1:47:47Speaker 3: was what he was like as a player too, to
- 1:47:49Speaker 3: you know, he was you know what was it, uh
- 1:47:53Speaker 3: like Bill or or whatever. They used to call him
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: Girod Belichick, right, So that was like the big thing
- 1:47:59Speaker 3: for him was that that is who he was. And
- 1:48:02Speaker 3: I feel like that's why he's taking the CEO approach,
- 1:48:04Speaker 3: and I feel like that's why he's doing what Deuce
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: is saying and trying to build it in that way.
- 1:48:09Speaker 3: I just wonder when the chips are down, and you like,
- 1:48:13Speaker 3: do they have enough of the brain power to go
- 1:48:17Speaker 3: toe to toe with some of these other teams that
- 1:48:19Speaker 3: they're going to go toe to toe with? Because if
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: it were me, and you all know this, I'm not
- 1:48:23Speaker 3: like breaking any news here. If it were me, I
- 1:48:25Speaker 3: would have went the tight pants are out right, like
- 1:48:27Speaker 3: I would have hired like a Ben Johnson or or
- 1:48:30Speaker 3: someone like that. Oh speaking of him, Yeah, his press
- 1:48:33Speaker 3: conference turned me off a little bit. Oh yeah, but
- 1:48:36Speaker 3: I would have went that route instead because I know
- 1:48:40Speaker 3: for a fact that what I'm getting with that guy
- 1:48:42Speaker 3: is that my offense is going to be next level.
- 1:48:44Speaker 2: Right real quick.
- 1:48:45Speaker 5: Because I want this Ben Johnson before we have to
- 1:48:47Speaker 5: get off. But when you when you said, like, it's
- 1:48:50Speaker 5: the modern you know, and I totally agree. Again, I'm
- 1:48:53Speaker 5: with Evan. I agree with everything that you said. My
- 1:48:56Speaker 5: concern about that is what so this is definitely the
- 1:48:58Speaker 5: modern way the modern athlete, well what do we know now?
- 1:49:01Speaker 5: Like has sort of become prevalent about the modern athlete.
- 1:49:04Speaker 5: They have wandering eyes, They don't want to stay you know, like, no,
- 1:49:08Speaker 5: it's not working here, So I'm just going to go there.
- 1:49:10Speaker 5: I'm not going to do that because I don't want
- 1:49:12Speaker 5: to do that, and I'm just going to go somewhere
- 1:49:14Speaker 5: where they're gonna let me do it the way I
- 1:49:15Speaker 5: want to do it. And I think that's my concern
- 1:49:18Speaker 5: is that there's not enough of that discipline. I understand
- 1:49:22Speaker 5: Evan's concern about just flat out Ex's and O's. I'm
- 1:49:26Speaker 5: less worried about that because I think these guys, you know,
- 1:49:29Speaker 5: is he Bill Belichick. No, But I think he has
- 1:49:31Speaker 5: enough of an aptitude for football to be able to
- 1:49:34Speaker 5: put together at least the defense. But I don't know
- 1:49:37Speaker 5: if they have enough gravitas in the locker room to
- 1:49:41Speaker 5: get the players buying in on board for a length
- 1:49:44Speaker 5: of time, Like right now, there's a buy in right now.
- 1:49:48Speaker 5: I think that's what I talked about. The number one
- 1:49:49Speaker 5: thing my takeaway from OTA's is the enthusiasm. I think
- 1:49:53Speaker 5: they have bought it. I talked to Anthony Jennings a
- 1:49:55Speaker 5: little bit about playing for a former player and how
- 1:49:58Speaker 5: they like that and whatnot. Right now, I think they're
- 1:50:01Speaker 5: bought in.
- 1:50:02Speaker 3: Losing game if you're two and eight, Yeah, I think
- 1:50:05Speaker 3: we're like saying the same thing in a different way
- 1:50:07Speaker 3: because I think the biggest thing to me is like
- 1:50:10Speaker 3: that's his that's his carrying trait, is that he's supposed
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: to be able to bring people together and like that
- 1:50:16Speaker 3: all that kind of stuff, And I just don't know
- 1:50:18Speaker 3: if that's going to actually win football games. Like they
- 1:50:22Speaker 3: might have a great locker room and they might have
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: like great team camaraderie and the guys might be bought
- 1:50:27Speaker 3: in and all that kind of stuff, But is that
- 1:50:30Speaker 3: if you don't have that bill chess match thing going on?
- 1:50:34Speaker 3: Like can you win at a high level with a
- 1:50:35Speaker 3: guy that's literally just you know, the CEO of the
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: team and not really the puppet massah?
- 1:50:42Speaker 2: And you know, is there consequences for going rogue? Like
- 1:50:47Speaker 2: I think with Bill, you were afraid to be the
- 1:50:50Speaker 2: guy that screwed up, you know, And is Bill is
- 1:50:55Speaker 2: going to be able to establish that, you know, not
- 1:50:57Speaker 2: coaching out of fear, but the fear of effing up?
- 1:51:01Speaker 5: When when you when when Connor was growing up? Did
- 1:51:04Speaker 5: Connor do things that you never would have dreamed of
- 1:51:06Speaker 5: because you would have been too afraid.
- 1:51:08Speaker 2: To do No, I did much things, much worse than
- 1:51:10Speaker 2: he did.
- 1:51:11Speaker 5: Oh, okay, then you got you got lucky. My kids,
- 1:51:14Speaker 5: I guess are just But I was really bad. Okay,
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: so like I I wasn't really bad.
- 1:51:20Speaker 2: Now.
- 1:51:20Speaker 3: I got in trouble like everybody else.
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: But I had an instinctive fear of letting my parents
- 1:51:26Speaker 5: down that I don't think exists.
- 1:51:28Speaker 2: I hear that.
- 1:51:28Speaker 5: And it's not because my kids do not do the
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: right thing.
- 1:51:31Speaker 3: They do, you know.
- 1:51:33Speaker 5: But I'm lucky because I see a widespread attitude that
- 1:51:38Speaker 5: just doesn't care. They care more about letting their friends
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: down then letting their parents down.
- 1:51:41Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:51:42Speaker 7: Yeah, And when you were talking, Paul two, I was
- 1:51:44Speaker 7: getting and I feel this is kind of across sports
- 1:51:46Speaker 7: with this this generation now that's you know, of age,
- 1:51:48Speaker 7: and is that the inconsistency hit off my line and
- 1:51:51Speaker 7: I don't know, this could be old man deuce, but
- 1:51:53Speaker 7: like it just feels like a lot of teams across
- 1:51:56Speaker 7: the spectrum, bruined Celtics included, are so up in down
- 1:52:00Speaker 7: and like on games where you're like, well, they don't
- 1:52:02Speaker 7: really need this one, then they're not showing up like
- 1:52:05Speaker 7: you know, and it's like, well, like like that's kind
- 1:52:07Speaker 7: of almost a general.
- 1:52:07Speaker 4: Expectation now modern athletes is that well, if it's.
- 1:52:10Speaker 5: Not a big game, can you imagine nineteen eighty five
- 1:52:13Speaker 5: talking about the Celtics playing the nets and this is
- 1:52:16Speaker 5: a scheduled loss.
- 1:52:18Speaker 3: Please?
- 1:52:19Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:52:20Speaker 3: I see it all the time with like, Okay Boomer,
- 1:52:23Speaker 3: I see it so much with the Celtics, and I
- 1:52:25Speaker 3: think that this is trickling. And when we talk to
- 1:52:28Speaker 3: these guys, I don't want to say kids, like I'm ninety,
- 1:52:30Speaker 3: but when we talked to them at the combine and
- 1:52:32Speaker 3: stuff like that, you see it a little bit more.
- 1:52:34Speaker 3: And like I hear you know Paul's shows all the time.
- 1:52:37Speaker 3: There's not enough dog in Jason Tatum right, Like he's
- 1:52:39Speaker 3: not a killer, Like he doesn't just go out there
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: and grab it. It's like, are any of them are
- 1:52:45Speaker 3: like does that exist anymore that like maybe in one
- 1:52:49Speaker 3: or two of them, are you know, like that that's
- 1:52:51Speaker 3: that killer instinct that Brady had, that's that sort of
- 1:52:54Speaker 3: think like Luca might have it, but like there are
- 1:52:56Speaker 3: very few guys and especially American athletes that have that
- 1:53:02Speaker 3: type of thing going. Even like Mahomes, I feel like
- 1:53:05Speaker 3: it's he's just better than everybody else. Like I don't
- 1:53:07Speaker 3: know if he necessarily has this like killer instinct, work
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: ethic or whatever.
- 1:53:12Speaker 5: He's he's as close to Brady like with that mentality
- 1:53:15Speaker 5: that thirteen second game like to me was that was
- 1:53:17Speaker 5: vintage Brady.
- 1:53:18Speaker 3: All Right, here we go. Yeah.
- 1:53:21Speaker 7: I hear what Evan's saying though, because it's almost like
- 1:53:24Speaker 7: Mahomes is just like naturally able to do it.
- 1:53:27Speaker 4: But I hear what you're saying.
- 1:53:29Speaker 3: I just don't I feel like we put a lot
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: of stock in that. And I think I don't know
- 1:53:33Speaker 3: if any of them.
- 1:53:34Speaker 2: I think those killers all have one thing in common
- 1:53:37Speaker 2: is they hate to lose. They I don't care what
- 1:53:40Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:53:40Speaker 5: They hate to lose.
- 1:53:41Speaker 2: Almost cards or ping pong or dominoes or football or basketball.
- 1:53:46Speaker 2: They hate to lose, and they'll do anything to keep
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: from losing. You know, I see it like going. You know,
- 1:53:53Speaker 2: my favorite sport tennis. Like these tennis players these days,
- 1:53:57Speaker 2: they're soft.
- 1:53:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm sorry, don't hate to lose as much.
- 1:53:59Speaker 2: That's why Jokovic does so well. He's not soft.
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: Totally agree, he's.
- 1:54:03Speaker 5: He's some of the he's a killer. Some of these
- 1:54:06Speaker 5: young he has killed. They're pretty good. And they'll be
- 1:54:08Speaker 5: up like you know, they'll be up a set in
- 1:54:10Speaker 5: the fourth and they'll be up like forty to fifteen,
- 1:54:13Speaker 5: and all of a sudden they'll get broken. Matches over. Yeah,
- 1:54:16Speaker 5: it's like they crumble, like you were in total control
- 1:54:19Speaker 5: of the match. You had a lapse in judgment, the
- 1:54:22Speaker 5: other guy made a couple of shots and then you all,
- 1:54:24Speaker 5: all of a sudden, it's you're down or break in
- 1:54:26Speaker 5: the fifth like that. You see it happen all the time.
- 1:54:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I don't know if you saw Paul,
- 1:54:32Speaker 2: but Djokovic had a match at French Open that ended
- 1:54:35Speaker 2: at three thirty in the morning at the five Center. Yeah,
- 1:54:38Speaker 2: three thirty in the morning, and now he.
- 1:54:41Speaker 3: Might not be able to play then eight match.
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: Right, but you first set, you thought he's not gonna
- 1:54:44Speaker 2: make it, and he I mean he ran away with
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: it at the end, six to zero in the last set,
- 1:54:49Speaker 2: unbelievably thirty seven years old.
- 1:54:51Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, it's gonna be interesting to see this
- 1:54:54Speaker 3: wave of quarterbacks that's coming into the league. Like to
- 1:54:56Speaker 3: any of them, I don't know, Like we talked to Kleb,
- 1:54:58Speaker 3: we talked to Jayden Daniels, to Drake May, It's like,
- 1:55:01Speaker 3: I don't know, someone will have it right.
- 1:55:04Speaker 5: A lot of these guys will be great, right.
- 1:55:06Speaker 7: So, I mean, I think it's tough to read with
- 1:55:07Speaker 7: Drake because I think he's kind of a likable kind
- 1:55:10Speaker 7: of kid, and you know, but he's but he's also
- 1:55:13Speaker 7: the younger brother, and so I feel like those kids,
- 1:55:15Speaker 7: those guys always kind of have a chip on their
- 1:55:17Speaker 7: shoulder and.
- 1:55:17Speaker 5: They have a toughness about them because they're used to
- 1:55:19Speaker 5: getting beat his brothers.
- 1:55:24Speaker 2: I like the fact that he came up a house.
- 1:55:26Speaker 2: I think that's a huge You had to fight for
- 1:55:28Speaker 2: that last piece of meat on the table.
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: I think that is much bigger deal than people made it.
- 1:55:33Speaker 5: I think it's a huge plus. In his column, can
- 1:55:36Speaker 5: I get a little Ben Johnson because.
- 1:55:39Speaker 2: So he was mentioning, you know, like they asked him,
- 1:55:42Speaker 2: you know, why did you go back to being in
- 1:55:44Speaker 2: oc and not pursue being a He goes, I forget
- 1:55:47Speaker 2: exactly what he said preemptively, but he said, you know,
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: there were a lot of narratives out there about me
- 1:55:51Speaker 2: that people were talking about that, you know, I just
- 1:55:54Speaker 2: didn't want to have to deal with. And all I
- 1:55:56Speaker 2: could think about was that guy that called up our
- 1:55:58Speaker 2: show about yelling at the at the school play. It's like,
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: is what he's talking about.
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: The way I think of that? But that's not my brain.
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: The Washington job, it felt like he basically just flat
- 1:56:14Speaker 3: out says Washington stinks and I'm not gonna hitch my
- 1:56:17Speaker 3: wagon to this awful team.
- 1:56:19Speaker 2: But did he talk about narratives that were yeah?
- 1:56:23Speaker 3: But I I just the more that I heard of
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: him talk, it was kind of like almost a little arrogant.
- 1:56:28Speaker 3: And the fact that he's like, I'm gonna go only
- 1:56:31Speaker 3: to like a cookie cutter, I know I can win
- 1:56:35Speaker 3: and sustain here type of situation, and he's not going
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: to go to a team like Washington who has a
- 1:56:40Speaker 3: second overall pick, and he's gonna have to fix it
- 1:56:42Speaker 3: and like put it all together, like if Dallas fires
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: Mike McCarthy then he's gonna be the first one in
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: line for that job. But it's not going to be
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: you know, rebuilding project that he's got to do.
- 1:56:51Speaker 5: I think it is about ego because he probably feels
- 1:56:53Speaker 5: like I'm good enough that I can choose. Yeah, like
- 1:56:56Speaker 5: a lot of like Dave Canalis took Carolina right, and
- 1:57:00Speaker 5: I don't think that he probably felt like there's only
- 1:57:03Speaker 5: thirty two of these. I can't be all that choosy.
- 1:57:05Speaker 5: This team wants me. I might, I don't know when
- 1:57:07Speaker 5: I'll get my next opportunity. Whereas Ben Johnson's probably saying, Yeah,
- 1:57:10Speaker 5: we're gonna be good again next year. We're gonna have
- 1:57:12Speaker 5: a great offense again.
- 1:57:13Speaker 3: Next year.
- 1:57:13Speaker 5: I'll have my pick of the seven jobs that will
- 1:57:15Speaker 5: open up.
- 1:57:16Speaker 2: Yep, all right. A couple of emails to wrap up
- 1:57:18Speaker 2: the show, James pettigrew the most interesting Patriots fan in
- 1:57:20Speaker 2: the world. Question for Fred, did you manage to plus
- 1:57:24Speaker 2: up Brady Day? Oh? We plus plused it up.
- 1:57:27Speaker 4: Yeah, beyond plussing.
- 1:57:28Speaker 2: Yeah. Uh, Cody writes in thank you, Evan, I could
- 1:57:33Speaker 2: go all day on Pam. It's the worst character on
- 1:57:37Speaker 2: TV history. Will die on this hill.
- 1:57:40Speaker 5: He said, absolutely, I definitely have to watch more Office.
- 1:57:44Speaker 2: L from Wisconsin. Evan is right. Pam is awful, but
- 1:57:47Speaker 2: so is Jim. They really deserve each.
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: Other, so you guys nailed it. Yeah too. Jim is
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: in a very happy relationship with Shida Jones's character. Then
- 1:57:57Speaker 3: they've moved back to Scranton when they branches merge, and
- 1:58:00Speaker 3: Pam just completely torpedoes it from start to finish to
- 1:58:03Speaker 3: get Jim back, and it just I could go on
- 1:58:06Speaker 3: and okay, I'm done.
- 1:58:08Speaker 2: And then Rashida Jones had to go work for Parks
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: and Recreation after that, right yeah.
- 1:58:11Speaker 7: Well yeah, yeah, same kind right around the same time.
- 1:58:14Speaker 2: Okay, all right, that's gonna be it for this edition
- 1:58:17Speaker 2: of Patriots Unfiltered. When are we going to be back Thursday? Right?
