- 0:04Good morning. This is the Sacramento Brief, your

- 0:11ahead across the city. I'm Carol. It's Monday,
- 0:16September 21st, 2026. Let's get you caught up.
- 0:19We begin on Watt Avenue where a carjacking pursuit
- 0:22ended with deputies shooting a suspect Friday
- 0:24morning. The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office
- 0:27says a woman spotted a possible vehicle burglary
- 0:29on her home surveillance system and alerted her
- 0:32husband and 911. Investigators say the suspect
- 0:35attacked the husband, stole his keys and fled
- 0:38in his vehicle. Deputies pursued using a tire
- 0:42deflation device and pit maneuver to stop the
- 0:46vehicle near Watt and Edison Avenues. The sheriff's
- 0:48office says the suspect then restarted the vehicle
- 0:51and accelerated towards deputies who were on
- 0:53foot. Two deputies fired. The suspect was hospitalized
- 0:57with non -life -threatening injuries and the
- 0:59carjacking victim was treated and released. The
- 1:02investigation continues with an independent review
- 1:04by the district attorney's office. And in Carmichael,
- 1:08extensive vandalism forced Ancil Hoffman Park
- 1:11to close yesterday. County parks officials say
- 1:15more than 10 light poles were knocked over, along
- 1:18with multiple street signs and at least one restroom.
- 1:21Sinks and barriers were ripped from the walls.
- 1:24The damage also exposed live electrical wires,
- 1:27bringing in smud to address the hazard. The golf
- 1:31course and Effie Yeaw Nature Center have reopened,
- 1:34but according to the county's latest update in
- 1:36our show notes, the rest of the park remains
- 1:39closed for cleanup and maintenance. There's no
- 1:41estimate yet, and the vandalism is under investigation.
- 1:45Check the park's website before heading out.
