Speaker 4: real results, Frank Walker Law dot Com. Let that conversation
• 0:34
Speaker 4: begin on Let's talk.
• 0:36
Speaker 3: Hello, ladies and gentlemen. This is curly with let's talk.
• 0:41
Speaker 3: And I have in the building.
• 0:44
  Speaker 5: Me.
• 0:45
Speaker 3: Yes, as soon as I can get her fired or
• 0:48
Speaker 3: stop her from coming, that's probably what'll have to happen.
• 0:51
Speaker 2: I'll have to stop her from coming.
• 0:53
Speaker 3: But miss Odie lis Odie's in the building, and uh,
• 0:57
Speaker 3: it's just the two of.
• 0:58
Speaker 5: Us, todays no less. The audience is hard for that
• 1:02
Speaker 5: right ahead of tom.
• 1:03
Speaker 2: Yeah, there could there could be some fighting going on.
• 1:08
Speaker 5: Let me let me just clarify to the audience what happened,
• 1:10
Speaker 5: because we were waiting to come on and we were
• 1:13
Speaker 5: talking about tomorrow. It is Saint Patrick's day, okay, And
• 1:17
  Speaker 5: Carl states, that's right, I don't think I have any
• 1:20
Speaker 5: green and so being a good conscientious friend, being the
• 1:24
Speaker 5: person that I am offered to bring him a packer
• 1:28
Speaker 5: or some packer gear to wear tomorrow, so you know
• 1:32
Speaker 5: he doesn't get pinched or whatever the things the consequences
• 1:35
Speaker 5: are for not wearing green. See, I was thinking of you,
• 1:37
Speaker 5: and you only, but.
• 1:38
Speaker 2: You could have you could have fight about like Marshall.
• 1:41
Speaker 3: Well not, that's why, that's why your job is always on.
• 1:51
Speaker 5: Oh goodness, all right, let's go.
• 1:54
Speaker 2: Well, you know what.
• 1:57
  Speaker 3: We've got a we've got like a like you've got
• 1:59
Speaker 3: women in basketball, like like we're in a stage now
• 2:03
Speaker 3: where I think most and I'm gonna say sports fans,
• 2:08
Speaker 3: not just basketball fans, but I think sports fans love
• 2:13
Speaker 3: this time of year when you have all these basketball
• 2:16
Speaker 3: tournaments going all over the place. Yeah, so at least
• 2:20
Speaker 3: I think you have dived into that a little bit.
• 2:23
Speaker 5: Yeah. I thought maybe we would talk a little bit
• 2:25
Speaker 5: about March madness in general before we started talking about
• 2:29
Speaker 5: specific schools that are enjoying a tournament bid coming this
• 2:33
Speaker 5: weekend and really starting tomorrow. I think a lot of
• 2:36
Speaker 5: the playing games again, so lots of basketball to take in.
• 2:40
Speaker 5: But I was just curious, you know, for you, Carl,
• 2:45
Speaker 5: do you are you into March madness. I mean, it
• 2:48
Speaker 5: seems to me a lot of people either love it
• 2:50
Speaker 5: or they're just kind of indifferent to it.
• 2:52
  Speaker 3: I'm the no, I don't really I'm not like a
• 2:56
Speaker 3: dive into all of it, like I'm you know, some
• 2:59
Speaker 3: of they'll say, Okay, such and such a loss, such
• 3:01
Speaker 3: and such one. I'm more likely to wait until you
• 3:05
Speaker 3: get to the end and then let's see who's playing
• 3:08
  Speaker 3: in the championship.
• 3:09
Speaker 2: I'm more of that guy.
• 3:11
Speaker 3: Yeah, and again I think that's just because of my
• 3:13
Speaker 3: sports background, you know, results. Yeah, I just want the
• 3:17
Speaker 3: end result, who actually is going to actually win the tournaments.
• 3:20
Speaker 5: Yeah. So I'm kind of the opposite of you. I
• 3:23
Speaker 5: like the beginning games because I like to watch the
• 3:25
Speaker 5: smaller schools, you know, the David and Goliath types of matchups,
• 3:29
Speaker 5: and see the Cinderella stories come out of that.
• 3:31
Speaker 2: Well, I do love vote Yeah, I do love those too.
• 3:34
Speaker 5: Yeah. So that's pretty cool, and you know, just the
• 3:37
Speaker 5: whole I think the whole vibe of it is. You know,
• 3:39
Speaker 5: it's it's high stakes, it's single elimination. You know, you
• 3:43
Speaker 5: either either win and live another day or you go
• 3:46
  Speaker 5: home with a loss. I just think it's a great
• 3:50
Speaker 5: time of year. I was thinking back to, you know,
• 3:52
Speaker 5: some of our state memories that were related to March Madness,
• 3:55
Speaker 5: and you might remember these. I'm gonna take everybody back
• 3:57
Speaker 5: in the day for a second, But I was thinking
• 4:00
Speaker 5: about Jared West. Remember Jared that coaches for Best Virginia.
• 4:03
Speaker 5: We had him on here on the show before and
• 4:05
Speaker 5: him him making and I saw the video and if
• 4:08
Speaker 5: people haven't watched the actual video of him making this
• 4:11
Speaker 5: shot and the electric reaction of the of the audience
• 4:15
Speaker 5: and that they should look it up on YouTube. It's
• 4:17
Speaker 5: called the shot. And it was in nineteen ninety eight.
• 4:20
Speaker 5: We're going back a little bit, uh, and he made
• 4:22
Speaker 5: that game winning three pointer against Cincinnati that propelled them
• 4:25
Speaker 5: into the sweet sixteenth. I thought that was really cool.
• 4:28
Speaker 3: And when you have those kinds of moments in those
• 4:33
Speaker 3: types of games in the I'm going to say, playoff games,
• 4:37
Speaker 3: no matter where you are in the playoffs, if it's
• 4:40
Speaker 3: to get you to the next round, get you to
• 4:42
Speaker 3: the championship, win the championship, those kinds of plays I
• 4:47
Speaker 3: shouldn't call him plays, but those kinds of shots as
• 4:51
Speaker 3: a football players player, Yeah.
• 4:52
Speaker 2: So those are never forgotten. Oh No, And I and
• 4:58
  Speaker 2: you know what.
• 4:59
Speaker 3: It's curious if you're that player who makes that shot
• 5:04
Speaker 3: like in that moment, for you are now forever in history.
• 5:10
  Speaker 5: You're an icon.
• 5:11
  Speaker 2: Yeah.
• 5:12
Speaker 5: I mean the Mountaineers will never forget. I mean, if
• 5:14
Speaker 5: you're a true Mountaineer fan, you will never forget that shot.
• 5:17
Speaker 5: I mean I remember, you know, watching it. We were
• 5:19
Speaker 5: at a restaurant or somewhere watching that, and we thought
• 5:22
Speaker 5: that the game was over and he made that three pointer.
• 5:24
Speaker 5: I mean, the place went crazy, you know, the reaction
• 5:28
Speaker 5: because they you know, if they'd lost, you go home.
• 5:30
Speaker 5: It's kind of the heart format of March Madness. But
• 5:33
Speaker 5: and then the other one. You'll like this one because
• 5:35
  Speaker 5: it's a Marshall tie m and I was thinking about,
• 5:38
Speaker 5: you know, Marshall. This one's a little more recent twenty
• 5:40
Speaker 5: eighteen when they won their first ever tournament game. Okay,
• 5:45
Speaker 5: and then what was crazy about it was the way
• 5:49
Speaker 5: that the seeding worked in their in their area. I
• 5:52
Speaker 5: guess it's called their bracket or whatever they they were.
• 5:55
Speaker 5: If WV one and Marshall one, they had to play
• 5:58
Speaker 5: each other in the second around, and of course the
• 6:01
Speaker 5: VU is victorious. But I mean a lot of people
• 6:03
Speaker 5: were kind of sad about that, because no matter what
• 6:06
Speaker 5: side of the fence you were on, they were both
• 6:07
Speaker 5: state schools in the NCAA tournament, right, and you wanted
• 6:12
Speaker 5: to make deep, deep runs before they played each other, right, right?
• 6:15
Speaker 3: And and and I don't to your point, like whether
• 6:19
Speaker 3: you're Marshall, whether you're WVU, you want them to move
• 6:23
Speaker 3: forward and wherever they're going to meet, you would prefer
• 6:27
Speaker 3: it later in in in the brackets then early, yes,
• 6:31
Speaker 3: because then it's like I don't even know if the fans,
• 6:37
Speaker 3: well I shouldn't say that, I'll say the fans of
• 6:39
Speaker 3: the of the team who lost. It just creates some
• 6:44
Speaker 3: drama when it comes to like how bad you dislike WVU,
• 6:50
Speaker 3: how bad you dislike Marshall because they won. Yeah, and
• 6:54
Speaker 3: it just it kind of creates bad blood even more.
• 6:59
Speaker 5: I think, oh for sure. I mean especially when you know,
• 7:01
Speaker 5: and whoever wins that game gets to move on to
• 7:03
Speaker 5: the next rounds. Yeah, but it was it was that
• 7:07
Speaker 5: was kind of like I was like, oh man, if
• 7:08
Speaker 5: they could have just been you know, I think they
• 7:10
Speaker 5: I think the committee probably did that purposely, you know,
• 7:13
Speaker 5: to try to get to state schools. Maybe not, but
• 7:15
Speaker 5: that was just you know, being my paranoia and thinking
• 7:18
Speaker 5: to West Virginia schools. They knew it would bring, you know,
• 7:21
  Speaker 5: good audience and.
• 7:23
Speaker 3: And I'm gonna I'm going to go back to like
• 7:26
Speaker 3: a couple of our playoff situations with the vikings and
• 7:33
Speaker 3: the feelings when you lose, because every I think, if
• 7:37
Speaker 3: you if you've never experienced winning, like maybe the first round,
• 7:42
Speaker 3: second round, whatever, and that excitement if you can reverse
• 7:47
Speaker 3: that in times it by maybe three when you lose,
• 7:52
Speaker 3: and now you got and think about this. Now there's
• 7:55
Speaker 3: grown men on the field, you know, and you could
• 8:00
Speaker 3: make a case that you know, specifically playoff game.
• 8:08
  Speaker 2: When you lose.
• 8:09
Speaker 3: Them, there is a place that you go somewhere in
• 8:16
Speaker 3: your brain because you don't, you know, you're you're too
• 8:19
Speaker 3: old to kind of cry about it, and you know that, hey,
• 8:23
Speaker 3: well next year's you know, we look at you try
• 8:29
Speaker 3: your best to fake it like, yeah we got next year.
• 8:32
Speaker 3: You know we could come back. And I can remember
• 8:33
Speaker 3: we lost in the NFC an NFC championship game against
• 8:37
Speaker 3: the Redskins, and it was like, Okay, you can't cry,
• 8:44
Speaker 3: you know, you gotta you know, you can't be you know,
• 8:48
Speaker 3: you gotta kind of walk with your head up. You
• 8:49
Speaker 3: kind of got to be proud that we got this
• 8:51
Speaker 3: far and wait until next year that that that comes
• 8:54
Speaker 3: out of everybody's mouth in the locker room. The coaches
• 8:58
Speaker 3: are talking about next year, all of those kinds of that.
• 9:01
Speaker 2: Though, right it's too soon for that. It's like because
• 9:05
Speaker 2: you can't, like you can't get away from it. You
• 9:07
Speaker 2: can't get away from that loss.
• 9:08
Speaker 3: And it doesn't matter if it's a blowout or if
• 9:13
  Speaker 3: it's two points.
• 9:14
Speaker 2: You know, it doesn't make it. Don't think the.
• 9:15
Speaker 5: Closer games are more hurtful, Like you knew you were
• 9:18
Speaker 5: so close. Rather's to me. I think you tell me
• 9:22
Speaker 5: a blowout, you kind of prepare yourself all along the game, like,
• 9:25
Speaker 5: uh oh it's coming, we're gonna lose, We're gonna lose.
• 9:28
Speaker 5: But those close games just rip your heart out, I
• 9:30
  Speaker 5: would see.
• 9:30
Speaker 3: I think, I think, Okay, So the bluwout games, as
• 9:35
Speaker 3: you're participating in getting blown out, you know, I'm mad
• 9:40
  Speaker 3: at you.
• 9:42
Speaker 5: You're always mad at.
• 9:43
Speaker 3: Because you gave up. You gave up a play. Even
• 9:46
Speaker 3: if I gave up a play, you're mad at me.
• 9:48
Speaker 2: You know. It's like you're and it's private.
• 9:50
  Speaker 3: It's not like it's you know, it's not like you're
• 9:52
Speaker 3: trying to turn on your team, you know, the coaches.
• 9:55
  Speaker 2: It's team work. It's teamwork.
• 9:57
  Speaker 3: And I'm a I'm a teamwork kind of guy. But
• 10:00
Speaker 3: in a situation like that, it's like, oh gosh, what
• 10:04
Speaker 3: did he You know? Then I come over and hey,
• 10:06
Speaker 3: don't worry about it, you know, but you're.
• 10:08
  Speaker 2: Still secret.
• 10:11
Speaker 5: Animosity. Yes, if he hadn't dropped the ball, or if
• 10:14
Speaker 5: he'd have done this or that.
• 10:16
Speaker 3: Those games, in those kinds of situations. As as as
• 10:22
Speaker 3: coaches want to try to make sure that there's unity
• 10:25
Speaker 3: into the into the team, there is that, yeah, and
• 10:28
Speaker 3: you can, you can, you can create that, but it's personally,
• 10:34
Speaker 3: it's it's really hard to get over that type of
• 10:37
Speaker 3: a loss, you know.
• 10:38
Speaker 5: And that's as a seasoned professional player when you when
• 10:42
Speaker 5: you tie this back to March madness. These are kids, yes,
• 10:46
Speaker 5: and some of them, some of them know they're playing
• 10:47
Speaker 5: their very yes, so you know, if the tears flow,
• 10:52
Speaker 5: we can't really be critical.
• 10:54
Speaker 2: You can't. And and is that.
• 10:56
Speaker 5: An old school thing? You can't cry? There's no crying
• 10:59
Speaker 5: in football? Is it like no crime of baseball?
• 11:01
  Speaker 3: I don't Yeah, I think I think that nobody wants
• 11:04
Speaker 3: to they you know, if you played your best, and
• 11:07
Speaker 3: this is what I always say, if you played your best,
• 11:09
Speaker 3: don't worry about it. You know, I say that to
• 11:12
Speaker 3: all of our young kids. Does it help? No, because
• 11:16
Speaker 3: they're still crying. Do they hear it?
• 11:19
Speaker 2: Maybe? You know? But and I have to say, yeah,
• 11:23
Speaker 2: you have to say.
• 11:24
Speaker 3: But then the other side of that is can you
• 11:27
Speaker 3: can you honestly say to yourself you have not been
• 11:30
Speaker 3: in that situation before, and how do you how did
• 11:33
Speaker 3: you feel in that moment? Yeah, And there's some games
• 11:36
Speaker 3: that I can, like, I can go back and think about, oh,
• 11:39
Speaker 3: that game, that game, and and I'm trying to fight
• 11:43
Speaker 3: tears off. I'm trying to like just you know, be
• 11:46
Speaker 3: a man about it and and tough it out, and man,
• 11:49
Speaker 3: it's tough. You know those kind of games are you know,
• 11:54
Speaker 3: when you start talking about these kinds of tournaments, your expectation,
• 11:58
Speaker 3: and then what happens if you don't meet that expectation.
• 12:02
Speaker 3: If you think you can get to the championship and
• 12:04
Speaker 3: you lose in the second.
• 12:05
Speaker 6: Round, heartbreaking, heartbreaking, and you're trying to figure out, like,
• 12:09
Speaker 6: why did we lose it?
• 12:11
Speaker 3: And you're looking around trying to figure out what was
• 12:13
Speaker 3: the cause of the loss, and you can't.
• 12:17
Speaker 5: You can't just one thing. It's a combination of things
• 12:20
  Speaker 5: going wrong.
• 12:21
Speaker 2: And sometimes it's just the other team.
• 12:23
Speaker 5: It could just be bad luck.
• 12:24
Speaker 2: Sometimes the other team's just better, or the.
• 12:27
Speaker 5: Ball bounces a certain way, and that's just absolutely the
• 12:29
  Speaker 5: way it goes.
• 12:30
Speaker 1: Absolutely, But basketball is one of their sports. It's even
• 12:32
Speaker 1: more difficult. I think from a football perspective, you've got
• 12:35
Speaker 1: eleven players on offense, eleven on defense, eleven on special teams.
• 12:39
Speaker 1: Basketball is five guys score and they're doing everything. I
• 12:45
Speaker 1: have to think the pressure would be even higher in
• 12:48
Speaker 1: basketball the way March mandains is built.
• 12:50
Speaker 2: Yeah, I agree with you on that, because you're right.
• 12:55
Speaker 3: Five guys are trying to to do one a complish
• 13:00
Speaker 3: one thing, win this game so we can go to
• 13:02
  Speaker 3: the championship.
• 13:03
Speaker 2: And you don't do it.
• 13:05
Speaker 3: It's somebody in that five you know, if not, if
• 13:09
Speaker 3: you know, in most cases it's the whole thing. But
• 13:11
Speaker 3: maybe the team was better, just the better team, But
• 13:15
Speaker 3: it's hard to accept that. I think when you try
• 13:18
Speaker 3: to tell somebody team's just better.
• 13:21
Speaker 5: Then they don't want to hear that.
• 13:22
Speaker 2: I don't want to hear that.
• 13:24
Speaker 5: And and really March madness is such I mean, it's
• 13:26
Speaker 5: such an accomplishment whoever wins the whole tournament. I mean
• 13:30
Speaker 5: it's mind blowing to think how many you know games
• 13:33
Speaker 5: they had to be on and be able to, you know,
• 13:36
Speaker 5: to win and move from from one you know, sectional
• 13:39
Speaker 5: or whatever it's called to another. You know, it's quite
• 13:43
Speaker 5: a feat for whatever school wins the whole tournament. In
• 13:46
Speaker 5: my opinion, what sixty eight schools?
• 13:47
Speaker 1: Right, Yeah, Well, to kind of draw the difference between
• 13:52
Speaker 1: football and basketball here too, March madness is like the
• 13:55
Speaker 1: crown jewel for the NCAA because of the way it's built.
• 13:59
Speaker 1: Because you've got so many teams in there. I think
• 14:03
Speaker 1: football at the college level would just wish to be
• 14:08
Speaker 1: as good. That's what March madness is because I mean, yeah,
• 14:12
Speaker 1: they're expanding the playoffs in football, but every year it's
• 14:16
Speaker 1: just like by the middle of the season, you're like, well,
• 14:19
  Speaker 1: it's gonna be Team X, Y or C. Basketball, you
• 14:24
Speaker 1: have no idea. There's always some front runners. But as
• 14:29
Speaker 1: you mentioned Cinderella stories, Yeah, every year somebody comes out
• 14:33
  Speaker 1: of nowhere you.
• 14:33
Speaker 5: Think about in the past. George Mason, Florida Gulf Coast.
• 14:37
Speaker 5: I mean those are kind of old school, you know,
• 14:38
Speaker 5: ones that I can recall right out right off the
• 14:40
Speaker 5: top of my head. But they made deep runs even
• 14:44
Speaker 5: to the final four, I believe. And they were small schools,
• 14:47
Speaker 5: relatively small. I mean, they're really not as blue bloods,
• 14:50
Speaker 5: so to speak, as you have like with Kentucky's and
• 14:54
Speaker 5: Connecticuts and all them. So it's always fun to see
• 14:56
Speaker 5: a school like that sneak in, and a.
• 14:59
Speaker 2: Lot of times it's hard for in football for that
• 15:04
Speaker 2: team to sneak in.
• 15:05
  Speaker 1: Yeah.
• 15:06
Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, usually you get there, you get the
• 15:10
Speaker 3: teams that that you think, rarely do you get that
• 15:16
Speaker 3: major upset in football. It's in most cases it's gonna
• 15:21
Speaker 3: go the way everybody thinks it's gonna go, and no
• 15:25
Speaker 3: matter how close it is, that makes it. That makes
• 15:29
Speaker 3: you at least a little happy to well, you know,
• 15:31
Speaker 3: we played well, da da da da da, but you're
• 15:34
Speaker 3: going home. Yeah, and everybody predicted that you were gonna go.
• 15:40
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 15:42
  Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's I think that's a I think
• 15:44
Speaker 3: that's a when you're going into it and you know,
• 15:47
Speaker 3: every everybody's saying, oh, oh, they don't they don't respect us,
• 15:50
Speaker 3: they don't you know, they don't think we're gonna win
• 15:52
Speaker 3: this one. Let's go prove it to them. Sometimes that
• 15:56
Speaker 3: can work for you. Yeah, but if that team's just
• 15:59
  Speaker 3: better than you, man, it's it's it's.
• 16:01
Speaker 5: It is what it is.
• 16:02
Speaker 2: It is what it is.
• 16:03
Speaker 5: It's hard. It's hard to internalize that sometimes. Well, speaking
• 16:07
Speaker 5: of March madness, let's tie in our girls team from WVU,
• 16:10
Speaker 5: because this is pretty exciting. You know that they've had
• 16:13
Speaker 5: a historic run. They won the Big twelve tournament, won
• 16:17
Speaker 5: the championship, and and and their gift for winning it
• 16:20
Speaker 5: is a number four seeding and Morgantown gets to host
• 16:24
Speaker 5: the opening round of the ncub A tournament. And this
• 16:28
Speaker 5: is the first time in thirty four years that WVU
• 16:31
Speaker 5: will host an NCAA tournament game in Morgantown. Now, so
• 16:36
  Speaker 5: that's exciting, right.
• 16:37
Speaker 2: That is that? That is exciting. That is great stuff.
• 16:40
Speaker 3: Okay, but we get but I'm just gonna say, but again,
• 16:46
Speaker 3: as we have talked, you don't want to be in
• 16:50
  Speaker 3: that situation.
• 16:51
Speaker 2: What you know you wait.
• 16:53
Speaker 3: A minute, mean, can we cut her mic off?
• 16:58
Speaker 1: I mean, I've got the button right here.
• 17:01
Speaker 5: I'll be quite go ahead.
• 17:03
Speaker 3: I think the I think the challenge in that is
• 17:09
Speaker 3: what if you don't win, you have the opportunity to
• 17:13
Speaker 3: play at home, and what if you don't win.
• 17:20
  Speaker 7: That?
• 17:20
  Speaker 3: See, I don't want to be I don't want to
• 17:23
Speaker 3: I don't want to beat Okay.
• 17:25
Speaker 5: So they're a number four seed. Their opponent is a
• 17:27
Speaker 5: number thirteen seed, I believe Miami of Ohio. Okay. So
• 17:31
Speaker 5: that's you know, and they're playing at home. I think
• 17:36
Speaker 5: coach Kellogg spoke after they announced that that they had
• 17:39
Speaker 5: like a little get together for the team and for
• 17:41
Speaker 5: fans in Morgantown, and he spoke about, you know, please
• 17:45
Speaker 5: come to the game. Here's my question for both of you, guys.
• 17:48
Speaker 5: Do you feel like the fan base is ready to
• 17:52
Speaker 5: like if it were the guys, you know, in this situation,
• 17:56
Speaker 5: we know that there would be so much excitement and
• 17:58
Speaker 5: support and you know, fan and all the things. But
• 18:01
  Speaker 5: because it's not the men's team, it's it's the women's team,
• 18:05
Speaker 5: do you think it's going to be as as vibrant
• 18:07
  Speaker 5: and supported.
• 18:08
Speaker 3: I hope, and I hope and I think it would
• 18:12
Speaker 3: be because you got your moms and dads, you got
• 18:15
Speaker 3: your cousins, you got your brothers and sisters, you got
• 18:17
Speaker 3: all of them, all of them coming and then you've
• 18:19
Speaker 3: got the die hard West Virginia fans who will all
• 18:23
Speaker 3: it has to do is be bleak, blue and gold,
• 18:25
Speaker 3: and they're coming, you know. And so I actually think
• 18:29
Speaker 3: that you will get a great turnout.
• 18:32
Speaker 2: For it to give you the feel of true home
• 18:37
  Speaker 2: field advantage.
• 18:37
Speaker 5: Okay, well you think, Matt.
• 18:39
Speaker 1: I don't think they've necessarily had the attendance numbers throughout
• 18:43
  Speaker 1: the regular season.
• 18:44
Speaker 5: That was my concern.
• 18:45
Speaker 1: But I will say this, I feel like over the
• 18:48
Speaker 1: last several years, the women's basketball program at WVU has
• 18:53
Speaker 1: been far more consistent than the men's. I mean every year,
• 18:56
Speaker 1: the men's is basically a clean slate. Yeah, I mean
• 18:59
Speaker 1: it's been new coaches, new players and everything. The women,
• 19:03
Speaker 1: I feel like there's a little bit more consistency there.
• 19:05
Speaker 1: I mean, again, we're living in the age of the portals.
• 19:07
Speaker 1: I mean, there's always going to be that. But I
• 19:10
  Speaker 1: think that I mean, I don't think that don't fill
• 19:14
Speaker 1: it up. I think I think absolutely. I think so.
• 19:16
  Speaker 1: I think they'll have me.
• 19:17
Speaker 5: I totally hope you're both right. I hope that that
• 19:20
Speaker 5: it's a great crowd and they come out victorious and
• 19:22
  Speaker 5: the girls.
• 19:24
Speaker 3: To me, like I would think that they would promote that,
• 19:26
Speaker 3: they would really promote that promot, you know, because I
• 19:29
Speaker 3: think that would be something truly, really truly special for
• 19:34
Speaker 3: them and give them, you know, a good comfortable feel
• 19:37
Speaker 3: of like, hey, we can win this, you know, because
• 19:40
Speaker 3: I really do believe that fan base.
• 19:44
Speaker 2: Helped you in any in any sport.
• 19:48
Speaker 3: If you've got folks cheering for you, I mean that
• 19:50
Speaker 3: to me A lot of times, that just gives you
• 19:52
Speaker 3: more motivation to work even harder during the game. You
• 19:57
Speaker 3: you might be tired, but you ain't coming out because
• 19:59
Speaker 3: you just you are, you just I got to do
• 20:01
Speaker 3: this for the fans, And I feel like I don't
• 20:05
Speaker 3: know how they would not.
• 20:07
Speaker 2: Sell out the whole place.
• 20:09
Speaker 1: Yeah. I know a lot of people that have been
• 20:11
Speaker 1: regular season football ticket holders. Yes that, especially over the
• 20:15
Speaker 1: last couple of years, been a little bit more prone
• 20:18
Speaker 1: to selling those off. You know, miss a game when
• 20:20
Speaker 1: you hear the same with basketball. But I feel like,
• 20:24
Speaker 1: I mean, this particular type of game is going to
• 20:27
Speaker 1: be the one that, now you know what, I'll drive
• 20:29
Speaker 1: from Charleston, I'll drive from wherever and go see that game.
• 20:32
  Speaker 8: Yeah.
• 20:33
Speaker 5: And That's what I've heard from a lot of my
• 20:35
Speaker 5: friends who are diehard WVU. You know, fans in football
• 20:38
Speaker 5: and men's basketball, they're they're going to attend on Saturday.
• 20:41
Speaker 5: So let's just hope that that trend is you know,
• 20:44
Speaker 5: all through Mountaineer Nation because you know, for these girls,
• 20:47
Speaker 5: I mean, this is just such an important thing for
• 20:50
Speaker 5: women's sports in West Virginia in my opinion.
• 20:53
Speaker 2: Do you think you're right?
• 20:54
Speaker 5: Do you agree? I mean, because I think that the
• 20:56
Speaker 5: little girls and the aspiring women athletes at the high
• 21:00
Speaker 5: school level and maybe some of the smaller colleges to see,
• 21:03
Speaker 5: you know, these women experience that kind of success at WVU.
• 21:07
Speaker 5: It's not the typical South Carolina or Tennessee I think
• 21:11
Speaker 5: has a good women's team. You know, this is in
• 21:14
Speaker 5: this is in Morgantown, and so I think they're they're
• 21:16
Speaker 5: trailblazers for our for our females here in the state.
• 21:18
Speaker 1: Well I'll tell you what else helps them out. It's
• 21:20
Speaker 1: on a Saturday. Oh amen, that's always going to help
• 21:23
  Speaker 1: out on attention.
• 21:23
Speaker 5: Y Yeah, for sure.
• 21:25
Speaker 3: So I have I have an idea, and I'm curious
• 21:27
Speaker 3: with what both of you all think, and maybe you
• 21:29
Speaker 3: can even you might think it should may be high
• 21:32
Speaker 3: school versus middle school. I think every middle school female
• 21:39
Speaker 3: athlete and or male athlete how to have an opportunity.
• 21:44
Speaker 3: There should be like a day that they go to Marshall.
• 21:49
Speaker 3: They go to wv U and they see the campus,
• 21:53
Speaker 3: they meet athletes, they meet.
• 21:55
Speaker 2: Like the field trip as a field trip, And.
• 21:59
Speaker 3: I think that motivates our kids to want to be
• 22:03
Speaker 3: to want to go to WU, want to go to
• 22:04
Speaker 3: Marshall and feel like, you know, there's something, there's a
• 22:08
Speaker 3: connection because I saw it when I was a kid,
• 22:11
  Speaker 3: and I just i and I just can't wait to
• 22:14
  Speaker 3: go back again.
• 22:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that we should have something.
• 22:21
  Speaker 5: I think that's a great idea. I'm not even I'm
• 22:24
Speaker 5: not going to sit here and say that that doesn't
• 22:26
Speaker 5: exist in the Yeah, I.
• 22:27
Speaker 3: Don't know if it does or doesn't, but I think
• 22:29
Speaker 3: that I think it if nothing else, if you just
• 22:32
Speaker 3: take the let's say a female basketball team middle.
• 22:37
Speaker 2: School or high school.
• 22:39
Speaker 3: High school there might be some rules or something in there,
• 22:41
Speaker 3: but middle school and you take them to a female
• 22:46
Speaker 3: basketball practice, yeah, you know, even if it's a practice
• 22:50
Speaker 3: and you get a chance to see the girls, the
• 22:53
Speaker 3: women that you want to be. Yeah, I think I
• 22:56
Speaker 3: think there's something about when you see them and you
• 22:59
Speaker 3: meet them and you realize that they're normal, They're not
• 23:03
Speaker 3: you know, like that, but what they've achieved is not
• 23:07
Speaker 3: reachable for yourself, right You're like, oh man, she can Yeah,
• 23:12
Speaker 3: I can do it. I think I think one of
• 23:14
Speaker 3: the one of the hardest things is that we don't
• 23:17
Speaker 3: have we don't utilize the examples.
• 23:21
Speaker 2: For our athletes to motivate them to understand what to do,
• 23:25
Speaker 2: how to do it, and who all did it.
• 23:28
Speaker 1: I think you're bringing up a really excellent point here
• 23:31
Speaker 1: because I feel like a lot of times kids are
• 23:34
Speaker 1: not thinking about the college campus until they're ready to
• 23:37
Speaker 1: go on visits and figure out where am I going
• 23:40
Speaker 1: to go? Right, And this type of thing would allow
• 23:45
Speaker 1: those student athletes, and not even just student athletes, I
• 23:48
Speaker 1: mean even things like music. I mean, yeah, I went
• 23:51
Speaker 1: up to WU when I was in high school. I
• 23:53
Speaker 1: was in music in high school, went up there for uh,
• 23:55
Speaker 1: you know, an honor band, and so that got me
• 23:57
Speaker 1: on campus, That got me in front of the professors
• 23:59
Speaker 1: up there. You know, you get these middle and high
• 24:02
Speaker 1: school especially like freshman sophomore year, to just go and
• 24:06
Speaker 1: maybe I don't know, participate in a camp. So not
• 24:08
Speaker 1: only are they going to work with the other athletes
• 24:10
Speaker 1: in the program, but they'll see other athletes from around
• 24:13
Speaker 1: the state that are doing the same thing. They are
• 24:15
Speaker 1: trying to get better, trying to learn, because I do.
• 24:18
Speaker 1: I feel like by the time kids go to campus,
• 24:20
Speaker 1: it's because they're trying to figure out where they want
• 24:22
Speaker 1: where they want to go, and they haven't been there
• 24:24
Speaker 1: any younger than that.
• 24:25
  Speaker 2: Right, And I think there's a there's a.
• 24:28
Speaker 3: If I go to Marshall and I go to WVU,
• 24:31
Speaker 3: I visit those at a young age, I'm gonna remember that.
• 24:35
Speaker 3: And let's say I get to become, you know, a
• 24:38
Speaker 3: junior in high school, and I've got a bunch of offers, right,
• 24:44
Speaker 3: one of them is Marshall, one of them might be WVU,
• 24:46
Speaker 3: and the rest of them are.
• 24:47
  Speaker 2: Out of state.
• 24:48
Speaker 3: What's the chances of me realizing and remembering, yeah, what
• 24:53
Speaker 3: I felt, how I felt on campus at Marshall, on
• 24:56
Speaker 3: campus at WVU. Now, what's the I think we now
• 25:02
Speaker 3: get It gives us a a jump start on a connection,
• 25:07
Speaker 3: a connection to those kids that they will that they
• 25:11
  Speaker 3: have never forgotten.
• 25:12
Speaker 2: They're not gonna because they're not gonna forget it.
• 25:15
  Speaker 1: You know.
• 25:15
Speaker 3: Now, I'm not saying that you can that's gonna necessarily
• 25:18
Speaker 3: mean if that's a Randy Moss type of an athlete,
• 25:20
Speaker 3: that may not, that may not change the dynamics there.
• 25:25
Speaker 3: But for the athletes that were in the middle right,
• 25:31
  Speaker 3: like I don't even say myself, you I didn't get
• 25:35
  Speaker 3: a trip to wv U.
• 25:37
Speaker 2: I got a trip to Marshall. Where did I go?
• 25:42
Speaker 5: So that that speaks volumes of of whether or not
• 25:44
Speaker 5: that connection works. You're able to reach, you know, those
• 25:47
Speaker 5: those student athletes at the high school, middle school level
• 25:50
Speaker 5: and and and start that foundation. They don't they don't
• 25:53
Speaker 5: forget that later, you know, when they become more successful
• 25:56
Speaker 5: and are ready to choose a school.
• 25:58
Speaker 3: I think, I think, I really do think that we
• 26:01
Speaker 3: could do a better job with our young athletes if
• 26:05
Speaker 3: we opened up that door to let them see let
• 26:09
Speaker 3: them meet the star quarterback, let them meet the offensive
• 26:14
Speaker 3: lineman that I might be, you know, or you know,
• 26:17
Speaker 3: just I just think having those guys in front of them,
• 26:21
  Speaker 3: I think is a It's a valuable thing for them
• 26:25
Speaker 3: and for their future. If that's where they want to play,
• 26:28
Speaker 3: If that's where you want it, you want to be
• 26:29
  Speaker 3: an athlete, why.
• 26:30
Speaker 2: Not promoting start promoting home as early as possible.
• 26:35
Speaker 5: Yeah, I think that's legitimate. So that was a good point.
• 26:38
Speaker 5: So I'm going to bring up one more interesting fact
• 26:40
Speaker 5: before we move on to a subject that I know
• 26:42
Speaker 5: you want to talk about pretty strongly. But so these
• 26:46
Speaker 5: girls on the basketball team, and Matt, you may have
• 26:49
Speaker 5: heard of this, They had something called a lemon tradition.
• 26:51
Speaker 5: Did you hear about this.
• 26:53
Speaker 1: I've seen something about this, but I don't remember exactly
• 26:56
  Speaker 1: what it is.
• 26:56
Speaker 5: Okay, So so they're trainers. I guess their their team doctors, trainers.
• 27:01
Speaker 5: One of them has a holistic approach to treating her,
• 27:05
Speaker 5: you know, not totally holistic, but has some ideas about
• 27:08
Speaker 5: you know, some natural things that work with the players
• 27:10
Speaker 5: to get them ready for games and and and you know,
• 27:13
Speaker 5: kind of sharpen their mentality for the game. Yes, yes, yes, perfect.
• 27:17
Speaker 5: So the players and people notice this on the sideline
• 27:21
Speaker 5: before WU girls games, the players eat lemons before the game.
• 27:25
Speaker 5: They actually do like like I guess, if you know,
• 27:28
Speaker 5: think about if you did a shock to quila.
• 27:29
Speaker 2: You do a lemon, right, people, I don't know how
• 27:31
  Speaker 2: to do that.
• 27:32
  Speaker 5: Well, I'm just saying I don't either. I've just seen
• 27:36
Speaker 5: I've just heard about it in books. And I've seen
• 27:38
Speaker 5: it on television. Yeah, I thought all about but they
• 27:46
Speaker 5: eat the lemons. And the reason is, according to the
• 27:48
Speaker 5: trainers and the and the you know, osteopathic types of
• 27:51
Speaker 5: doctors they have there is to shock their system and
• 27:55
Speaker 5: maintain focus. So I'm going to need some lemons in
• 27:58
Speaker 5: my life, I think at my house from now on?
• 28:01
Speaker 5: What about you guys, so I don't shock your system
• 28:06
Speaker 5: and maintain focus. I mean I could use that in
• 28:08
  Speaker 5: my life.
• 28:09
  Speaker 2: I tell you what I'm gonna because what's what I'm
• 28:13
Speaker 2: going to do is.
• 28:13
Speaker 5: I'm going to be bring some lemons to the next show.
• 28:16
Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna do that before like on a
• 28:19
Speaker 3: day like I don't feel like I want to work out,
• 28:21
Speaker 3: I don't want to run, and I'm gonna test the theory,
• 28:26
Speaker 3: test the theory and see if it works.
• 28:28
Speaker 5: Okay, let us know.
• 28:29
Speaker 2: I will. I will definitely be.
• 28:33
  Speaker 5: Very scientific.
• 28:34
  Speaker 2: I will.
• 28:35
Speaker 1: I do have a question here, Okay, what did you
• 28:37
Speaker 1: guys have on the sidelines when you played for the
• 28:39
Speaker 1: Vikings to drink gatorade?
• 28:44
Speaker 2: Was gatorade and water?
• 28:45
Speaker 1: What flavor is the gatorade?
• 28:48
  Speaker 5: Lemon?
• 28:49
Speaker 1: A lot of times teams use lemon.
• 28:50
  Speaker 3: I wonder if they're like, I don't know, I don't really, I.
• 28:54
Speaker 5: Don't Maybe there is a lemon. I bet they probably
• 28:57
  Speaker 5: have lemon.
• 29:00
Speaker 1: Color. Is it like a lemon lime or whatever. I'm
• 29:02
Speaker 1: just wondering. I'm drawing. I have no idea, but it
• 29:06
Speaker 1: could be something in that. I don't know.
• 29:08
Speaker 5: Let's you know and just try it.
• 29:12
Speaker 3: What's interesting to that is if they would do that,
• 29:15
Speaker 3: you would like to think that you would know, like
• 29:18
Speaker 3: you like that, that you would know that they do that,
• 29:20
Speaker 3: but not maybe they just don't say it, just do it,
• 29:23
Speaker 3: and so you would never really what must.
• 29:26
Speaker 5: Work to a degree or the girls thinks it works,
• 29:28
Speaker 5: or they wouldn't do it right, I mean, they wouldn't
• 29:31
Speaker 5: continue to do it.
• 29:32
Speaker 3: I'm gonna I'm gonna do I'm going to try it
• 29:35
Speaker 3: out when we get we get into the youth football,
• 29:38
Speaker 3: I'll have one with lemons and I'll let kids know
• 29:41
Speaker 3: that it's lemon, and kids.
• 29:44
Speaker 5: Won't have lemon. They know what it's going to taste like.
• 29:48
Speaker 1: Pearl's going to make an experiment.
• 29:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, hey, you just tested out on you first, okay,
• 29:54
Speaker 5: and then and then report back to us last week.
• 29:57
Speaker 1: When you record a podcast, you come in here everybody
• 30:00
Speaker 1: choose on eleven first, and then we'll start recording and
• 30:03
Speaker 1: we'll see where it shows.
• 30:04
  Speaker 5: I think that's a fine idea. No, I do not
• 30:07
  Speaker 5: supply the lemon.
• 30:08
Speaker 2: I do not I do not think that would work.
• 30:12
Speaker 2: I don't think we need anything else to get his

  Speaker 2: goal with.

• 31:15
Speaker 3: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we've got a well, let
• 31:19
Speaker 3: me just say this. Lisa has a little clip. We're
• 31:21
  Speaker 3: going to play.
• 31:22
  Speaker 5: It's it's Michael Jordan's.
• 31:25
  Speaker 2: Right, it's a little clip.
• 31:26
Speaker 5: Yeah, it's mj It's the ghost.
• 31:28
  Speaker 2: Let's go.
• 31:29
Speaker 5: Let's hear about it.
• 31:30
Speaker 7: First of all, you're you're never gonna say who's the
• 31:32
Speaker 7: greatest of all time to me? And I think that's
• 31:35
Speaker 7: that's more for pr and more for selling stores and
• 31:38
Speaker 7: getting hype. Jack and Tiger never played against ea Ja.
• 31:41
Speaker 7: They never played in the same tournament. They never played
• 31:43
Speaker 7: with the same equipment, They never played with the same
• 31:45
Speaker 7: you know, length of golf course. I never played against
• 31:48
Speaker 7: Will Chainman. I never played against you know, Jerry West.
• 31:51
Speaker 7: To now say that you know one's greater than the other,
• 31:54
Speaker 7: it's being a little bit unfair. I think when you
• 31:57
Speaker 7: can see the similarities and you understand this is one
• 32:00
Speaker 7: where you can judge the two. How much impact did
• 32:02
Speaker 7: each change or evolve the game? You know, that's how
• 32:06
Speaker 7: people are judging certain things. I won six championship, Bill
• 32:10
Speaker 7: Russell won eleven. Does that make Bill Russell better than
• 32:14
Speaker 7: me and make me better than him. No, because you
• 32:16
Speaker 7: play at different erarans. So when you try to equate
• 32:19
Speaker 7: who's the greatest of all time, it's an unfair parallel.
• 32:23
Speaker 7: It's an unfair First of all, you're never going to.
• 32:25
Speaker 5: See what do you think?
• 32:28
  Speaker 2: I like it?
• 32:30
Speaker 3: And I like it, and I'm going to tell you
• 32:33
Speaker 3: why I like it, okay, because I think it's Michael.
• 32:37
Speaker 2: Jordan and he can't say.
• 32:42
Speaker 3: He's not gonna say that you're the goat, and he
• 32:46
Speaker 3: never wants to say himself that he's the goat, right,
• 32:49
Speaker 3: So he's stuck in a in between kind of conversations,
• 32:54
Speaker 3: so he has to give that.
• 32:59
Speaker 2: Open. But he is right, there's no question. But what
• 33:04
Speaker 2: if he'd have said.
• 33:07
Speaker 5: I'm the goat, Well then we wouldn't have played the clip.
• 33:10
  Speaker 4: But but.
• 33:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, we probably would have because because there's gonna be
• 33:15
Speaker 3: somebody's gonna come back and say, oh, well, well Chamberlain
• 33:18
Speaker 3: was the goat like he said, yeah, and and so
• 33:21
Speaker 3: you're gonna get those debates on who who who's really
• 33:28
Speaker 3: the goat in a particular sport.
• 33:31
Speaker 5: Well, let's let's let's start here. Let's start here. What quality,
• 33:35
Speaker 5: what what qualities do you need to possess to be
• 33:38
Speaker 5: considered the goat, which which by the way, stands for
• 33:41
Speaker 5: the greatest of all time in your sport. Some people
• 33:44
  Speaker 5: don't know that. I mean I didn't know it for
• 33:45
Speaker 5: a long time, that's true. Just clarify what qualities do
• 33:49
  Speaker 5: you need?
• 33:49
  Speaker 3: See, I don't think I don't think that it has
• 33:53
Speaker 3: to do so much with stats, because I think stats
• 33:57
Speaker 3: can change year in and year out. But the but
• 34:00
Speaker 3: the skill set, like for a quarterback, you know, back
• 34:04
Speaker 3: in the day, they didn't throw the ball as much
• 34:07
Speaker 3: as they do now, So the chances of a court
• 34:10
Speaker 3: an old school quarterback, let's say Joe Montana, his ability
• 34:16
Speaker 3: and his numbers stat wise, he probably hasn't thrown half
• 34:20
Speaker 3: of the number of passes completions that are quarterback today
• 34:25
Speaker 3: because of the style, because of the style of the game.
• 34:28
Speaker 3: So I think when you start talking about the goat,
• 34:32
Speaker 3: I think the issue becomes the time frame in which, yeah,
• 34:39
  Speaker 3: you played.
• 34:40
Speaker 5: I agree with that.
• 34:42
Speaker 3: You know, a running back, you if I was gonna pick,
• 34:48
Speaker 3: if I was gonna pick who's the goat, who's the best?
• 34:53
Speaker 3: What's the best running back that I've played against? That's
• 34:57
Speaker 3: easy for me that's Walter Payton.
• 35:00
  Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
• 35:01
Speaker 3: Now Bo Jackson, Okay, I I Bo Jackson is a
• 35:08
Speaker 3: great football player, but the impact that he has versus
• 35:15
Speaker 3: what I saw in Walter Payton because of Peyton. Peyton's
• 35:19
  Speaker 3: not a he's not a huge dude. Bo Jackson's is
• 35:22
Speaker 3: a big old guy. So he's supposed to run over me.
• 35:25
Speaker 3: I can at least work. I should be able to
• 35:28
Speaker 3: do something with Walter Payton, and I can't do a
• 35:30
  Speaker 3: thing with.
• 35:32
Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying. I mean, yeah, I needed
• 35:35
Speaker 2: a whole bunch of ems.
• 35:38
Speaker 3: And so I think so for me, when I start
• 35:40
Speaker 3: thinking about goats, I'm you know, I'm.
• 35:45
Speaker 2: Thinking about on the field. I'm not looking at their stats.
• 35:48
Speaker 3: I'm not looking at Hall of Fame, I'm not looking
• 35:50
Speaker 3: at any of that.
• 35:51
Speaker 2: I have the luxury to say, I'm.
• 35:54
Speaker 3: Gonna judge it from what I saw on the field,
• 35:58
Speaker 3: or what I saw.
• 35:58
Speaker 2: On the on the tape watching a player that is
• 36:02
  Speaker 2: as a player.
• 36:03
Speaker 3: Yes, Now, if I don't know necessarily where and what
• 36:08
Speaker 3: matters to you and what matters to you, Matt might
• 36:11
Speaker 3: see something totally different. He might look at it from
• 36:14
Speaker 3: a different perspective. He might look at it from you know,
• 36:17
Speaker 3: basically like the whole highlights of that athlete where you're
• 36:21
Speaker 3: looking at numbers. So I don't know how you all would.
• 36:26
Speaker 1: Here's the thing about it. The quality and the talent
• 36:31
Speaker 1: level of the league is naturally going to get better
• 36:35
Speaker 1: and better decade after decade after decade. So my personal opinion,
• 36:40
Speaker 1: you have to look at it for the overall accomplishments
• 36:45
Speaker 1: in the period of time that they played. Yeah, if
• 36:49
Speaker 1: you can get another player that has a similar amount
• 36:52
Speaker 1: of accomplishments thirty forty years ago, Okay, fine, so things
• 36:58
Speaker 1: got better over forty years. But if you can accomplish
• 37:01
Speaker 1: the same things in your period of time, in your era,
• 37:06
Speaker 1: then that I think is what you have to look at.
• 37:08
Speaker 1: Let me rattle off a few things.
• 37:09
  Speaker 2: Ok.
• 37:10
Speaker 1: Michael Jordan six Championships, six Finals, MVPs, five NBA MVPs.
• 37:17
Speaker 1: He was All Star Game MVP, three times, Defensive Player
• 37:21
Speaker 1: of the Year in eighty eight, Rookie of the Year
• 37:22
Speaker 1: in eighty five, ten scoring titles. He was ten times
• 37:27
Speaker 1: All NBA First Team. I mean, not only was he
• 37:31
Speaker 1: an offensive player, he was a defensive player. If you
• 37:33
Speaker 1: can find me another player that has similar numbers in
• 37:37
Speaker 1: their era, and those are the people you need to
• 37:39
Speaker 1: be comparing and everybody else.
• 37:41
  Speaker 2: Is out right.
• 37:42
Speaker 5: And I like what you said, Matt about the time frame.
• 37:45
Speaker 5: Every time period is going to have a goat. In
• 37:47
Speaker 5: my opinion, you can't compare a goat from one time
• 37:50
Speaker 5: period to another. I mean, it's just different styles of play,
• 37:54
Speaker 5: like you said, different athletic abilities, but they do have
• 37:57
Speaker 5: something in common. And Michael Jordan fit the bill for
• 38:00
Speaker 5: all of these the longevity of their play, their consistency,
• 38:05
Speaker 5: their accolades, right, championships, it could be either or statistical dominance,
• 38:11
Speaker 5: clutch performances, right because you know, you know if Mike
• 38:15
Speaker 5: got the ball it was you know, at the end
• 38:17
Speaker 5: of the game, that's who's going to.
• 38:18
Speaker 2: Get the He's going to get.
• 38:20
Speaker 5: And then cultural impact. So to me, those are those
• 38:23
Speaker 5: are the qualifications that you need to consider when you
• 38:26
Speaker 5: are looking at an athlete and deciding whether or not
• 38:30
Speaker 5: they qualify as a goat.
• 38:31
Speaker 3: That's just well and and and and I I one
• 38:34
Speaker 3: agree with you. And then I would say to anybody
• 38:38
Speaker 3: who would say, Okay, well I think it's such and such, Okay,
• 38:44
Speaker 3: I give you that put them beside Michael Jordan, right,
• 38:48
Speaker 3: And because if you're going to go buy stats. Let's
• 38:51
Speaker 3: just look at the stats. Yeah, years played, championships, all
• 38:56
Speaker 3: of those kinds of things. Do they add up right?
• 39:00
Speaker 3: You know when you start talking about you start talking
• 39:05
Speaker 3: about a running back and most people will say bo
• 39:08
Speaker 3: Jackson because he was big. But I would my question
• 39:14
Speaker 3: to that would be with how many games? I mean,
• 39:16
Speaker 3: how many years did he actually play? And then one
• 39:20
Speaker 3: of the concerns or the because my mine is mine
• 39:23
  Speaker 3: is Walter Payton.
• 39:25
Speaker 2: When it comes to a running back, it's Walter pat.
• 39:28
Speaker 5: It's another thing. You can't compare quarterbacks and running backs
• 39:30
Speaker 5: and defensive back more than one game.
• 39:34
Speaker 1: Wakes basketball more unique. Yet again, Football's position players. Yeah,
• 39:39
Speaker 1: there's positions in basketball, but everybody is doing the thing
• 39:43
Speaker 1: everybody's that's different. Lisa, you mentioned something that's got my
• 39:48
Speaker 1: brain buzzing here and I didn't even need a lemon here.
• 39:52
Speaker 1: Cultural impacts every contract, all these multimillion dollar contracts that
• 40:00
Speaker 1: these players are getting today, the shoe deals, the athletic
• 40:04
Speaker 1: air deals, all that stuff. Sure was it happening before
• 40:08
Speaker 1: Jordan entered the league. Yeah, a little bit, but it's
• 40:13
Speaker 1: it's way different now because of Michael.
• 40:16
  Speaker 2: Jordan's right.
• 40:18
Speaker 3: Yes, and and to that, and the point that I
• 40:21
Speaker 3: think that you're making is it was different. Yeah, when
• 40:26
Speaker 3: when when MJ was getting these things, doing these things,
• 40:30
Speaker 3: it was it was different.
• 40:32
Speaker 2: It was what, really, I'm dying.
• 40:35
Speaker 5: That shoe, you know, like, oh, everybody in one of those.
• 40:39
  Speaker 2: And no one.
• 40:41
  Speaker 3: I don't think since Jordan, I don't think there is.
• 40:45
  Speaker 3: I don't care if you've got a shoe, you got
• 40:47
Speaker 3: a jersey. I don't think you have anybody that has
• 40:52
Speaker 3: the impact to to hit the public, to be storming
• 40:58
Speaker 3: to the store and selling out their shoes, shirts, jerseys, whatever.
• 41:03
Speaker 2: I don't think you have that now.
• 41:05
Speaker 1: And Jordan made the Nike brand because he was going
• 41:08
Speaker 1: to go he wanted Adidas, and his mom said, no,
• 41:11
Speaker 1: we're going to go take this meeting with Nike. There
• 41:13
Speaker 1: were a brand new shoe company, and they gave him
• 41:17
Speaker 1: those stock options, which is what made him rich. And
• 41:20
Speaker 1: it's all just because he stopped and listened to his mom.
• 41:22
Speaker 1: But otherwise he was going to go with Adidas.
• 41:25
  Speaker 5: And it's a wild story.
• 41:27
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean think about just how how narrow that
• 41:32
  Speaker 3: choice was.
• 41:34
Speaker 1: I mean he was a gamble on.
• 41:36
Speaker 5: Yeah, yes, it was.
• 41:37
Speaker 3: It was and his mom saw it for whatever whatever
• 41:41
Speaker 3: she saw you she knew whatever was she Yes, she
• 41:45
  Speaker 3: knew that.
• 41:46
Speaker 2: She this is where we need to be. And again
• 41:50
Speaker 2: he was the only guy.
• 41:53
Speaker 5: He pioneered it. He definitely started the trend for all
• 41:57
Speaker 5: of that for apparel for you know, she use that
• 42:00
Speaker 5: kind of thing first athletes, but nobody. I don't think
• 42:03
Speaker 5: I can't think of a recent athlete that has been
• 42:05
Speaker 5: that successful as he was MJ was, don't you guys.
• 42:09
Speaker 3: I don't even think that there is even a shoe
• 42:12
Speaker 3: that any that's named after or somebody's wearing that is
• 42:16
  Speaker 3: even remotely close.
• 42:17
Speaker 1: To Kobe is probably maybe Cochy. Yeah, He's probably the
• 42:23
  Speaker 1: only one.
• 42:23
Speaker 3: And that isn't that odd that those are probably your
• 42:28
Speaker 3: two most like I say, like players. They are you know,
• 42:34
Speaker 3: their their play was was similar, and they would be the.
• 42:39
Speaker 2: Two top shoe shoe market out there.
• 42:46
Speaker 1: Yeah, shoes and jacket jacket.
• 42:50
Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, it's crazy. So so is there some controversy about.
• 42:56
Speaker 1: Lebron Lebron James s Lebron.
• 42:59
Speaker 5: Wants to be the goat? I mean, am I hearing
• 43:01
Speaker 5: that correctly or not correctly? Or is it a rumor?
• 43:07
Speaker 2: It if not a rumor?
• 43:08
Speaker 3: Okay, So all right, I'm gonna I'm gonna just justify
• 43:11
Speaker 3: my what I think the goat is. I think the
• 43:15
Speaker 3: goat doesn't have to be the best player in the league,
• 43:19
Speaker 3: or because you played longer than anybody else, all those
• 43:23
Speaker 3: kinds of things. I think the goat is the is
• 43:27
Speaker 3: the individual who's changing how the game is being played.
• 43:33
  Speaker 3: Behind them, they're changing. Yeah, yeah, they're they're they're changing
• 43:38
Speaker 3: how you play the game. Lebron's a big dude, dunking
• 43:43
Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff, but he's not. He
• 43:45
Speaker 3: wasn't a Kobe. You know, he wasn't Kobe. And you
• 43:49
Speaker 3: give a kid to basketball, what's he wanted to be?
• 43:51
Speaker 3: He wants to be Kobe. He's not really overly interested
• 43:54
Speaker 3: in being, you know, a big guy who's just dunking it,
• 43:59
Speaker 3: you know. And and if I'm not trying to take
• 44:01
Speaker 3: away from his his skill.
• 44:04
Speaker 2: Set, but I just don't think that he is His
• 44:08
  Speaker 2: game is not.
• 44:09
Speaker 5: As likelyary like the perfect Yes, it's just not.
• 44:15
Speaker 1: There's no question he's a top ten player of all time.
• 44:18
Speaker 1: He's an amazing basketball player.
• 44:21
  Speaker 2: Yes.
• 44:22
Speaker 1: The difference for me, I think is just I mean,
• 44:25
Speaker 1: for one, basically everything that Michael Jordan accomplished he did
• 44:28
Speaker 1: with one team, Yes, you know, after ninety eighty eight,
• 44:31
Speaker 1: came back and played for the Wizards for a bit,
• 44:33
Speaker 1: but I mean he was pushing forty by that point. Yeah,
• 44:36
Speaker 1: Lebron has moved around a little bit. He's had a
• 44:38
Speaker 1: bunch of different head coaches. They've shifted players in and out.
• 44:43
Speaker 1: You know, He's at times been the focal point, and
• 44:48
Speaker 1: then at other times he's been like one major piece
• 44:52
Speaker 1: of two or three major players on a team. It's
• 44:54
Speaker 1: just always something different. I think it's just I think
• 44:57
Speaker 1: it's harder to pin down who Lebron Jeams is as
• 45:01
Speaker 1: a player. For one, because he's been in the league
• 45:04
Speaker 1: so long. He's I think his game has just evolved
• 45:06
Speaker 1: over time. But two, he's been around so many different
• 45:11
  Speaker 1: makeups of teams.
• 45:13
Speaker 5: Not just one. Yeah, like the Chicago Bulls, that whole team,
• 45:16
Speaker 5: they were household names. You could name almost every single player.
• 45:20
Speaker 2: You can't even name how many teams Lebron's been to.
• 45:24
Speaker 1: Well, well, and I couldn't tell you any any team
• 45:28
  Speaker 1: that he's been with. I don't think I even know.
• 45:31
Speaker 1: I mean, maybe one or two other players that he's
• 45:33
  Speaker 1: been with. Everybody else, I mean, I don't know I
• 45:36
Speaker 1: mean I could tell you who was like on the
• 45:38
Speaker 1: bench for the Chicago Bulls and that exactly.
• 45:41
Speaker 2: Yes, yes. And here's the other thing.
• 45:46
Speaker 3: If he wants an award, okay, and if you're if
• 45:50
Speaker 3: you're a Lebron fan, hear me out.
• 45:52
  Speaker 2: Okay.
• 45:54
Speaker 3: If he wants an award, let's give him the award
• 45:57
Speaker 3: of acting her Oh.
• 46:00
Speaker 5: My gosh, let's give him that award for faking injuries.
• 46:08
  Speaker 5: Here we go.
• 46:10
Speaker 3: I'm as as an as a as an athlete, as
• 46:13
Speaker 3: an athlete getting hurt. I'm sitting on the bench. I'm
• 46:18
Speaker 3: trying to get myself back out there, like I'm playing
• 46:22
Speaker 3: with pins in my wrist because I don't want to
• 46:25
Speaker 3: not play. He in this last he's falling and he
• 46:34
Speaker 3: hurts his arm. He doesn't even fall on that arm.
• 46:37
Speaker 3: And according to who watching the video, they were playing
• 46:41
Speaker 3: it on the they're playing here's when when ESPN and
• 46:47
Speaker 3: and and all the sports channels are replaying him falling
• 46:52
Speaker 3: and him grabbing the.
• 46:54
  Speaker 2: Arm, it's everywhere.
• 46:58

Speaker 1: of a power forward. When you're that big, why are
• 47:19
Speaker 1: you flopping? Why are you flopping like you got those
• 47:26

• 47:34
Speaker 3: guy that's six', one one hundred and ninety pounds knock
• 47:39
Speaker 3: you over to the to the degree that you need an.
• 47:41
Speaker 5: Ambulance and when that's big guy's, fall they fall. HARD

Speaker 2: Doesn't fall, hard he doesn't fall. Hard he just did.
• 47:52
Speaker 2: Not he did not he doesn't fall.
• 47:54
Speaker 1: Hard, Well jordan was quicker on his feet. Too plus
• 47:56
Speaker 1: he's got those enormous. Paws he can palm the. Ball,
• 48:01
Speaker 1: YES i mean would embarrass people doing stuff like. That,
• 48:04
Speaker 1: yeah So lebron doesn't have that going for. Him BUT
• 48:07
  Speaker 1: i MEAN i don't. KNOW i, mean of all the
• 48:09
Speaker 1: things that are going to be your, stick, flopping why?
• 48:14
Speaker 5: Flopping and Now i'm going to pay attention more to. That,
• 48:18
Speaker 5: WELL i was going to SAY i, NEED i need
• 48:20
Speaker 5: to watch one of their.
• 48:21
Speaker 3: Games we're over our, time BUT i was going to
• 48:23
Speaker 3: give you an opportunity to try to defend.
• 48:25
Speaker 2: This if you want to defend, it will go over
• 48:27
  Speaker 2: just a little.
• 48:27
Speaker 5: Bit but you know what we can we can we
• 48:29

Speaker 3: Joe it's Not Joe montana because, one it's not in
• 49:38
Speaker 3: the same. Era because of, this it's not in the same.
• 49:42

• 49:45
Speaker 5: The game still Say montana had an, edge yes for
• 49:48
Speaker 5: goat all, right what do you, Think Matt.
• 49:51
Speaker 1: WELL i don't have any disagreements With Joe. MONTANA i
• 49:54
Speaker 1: don't have any disagreements With Tom. Brady the third PERSON
• 49:58
Speaker 1: i think probably needs to be in that mix Is Steve.
• 50:01
Speaker 1: Young Joe montana protege came in and basically just picked
• 50:06
Speaker 1: up with the forty nine ers right Where montana left.
• 50:08
Speaker 3: OFF i agree and he and he he he made
• 50:11
Speaker 3: about nine of, us missed one touchdown and he beat.
• 50:17
Speaker 2: US i, CAN i can go with.
• 50:20
Speaker 3: Him but If i'm not, mistaken those, two those two
• 50:24
Speaker 3: quarterbacks were on the roster at one time And montana was,
• 50:29
Speaker 3: playing and so you, KNOW i Think Young young could run.
• 50:34
Speaker 3: Better BUT i think to, Me montana was just so,
• 50:39
Speaker 3: smart like he could like you. Couldn't you couldn't shake
• 50:43
Speaker 3: him in the, defense like you couldn't disguise the. Defense
• 50:45
Speaker 3: he finds somebody, who's, oh it's got to be cover.
• 50:49
Speaker 3: Three oh, oh they're all showing, that but he's showing.
• 50:53
Speaker 3: This he just knew where you. Were like he literally
• 50:57
Speaker 3: just beat our defense and we were pretty doll going
• 51:04
Speaker 3: good and he beat us because he knew where we.
• 51:08
Speaker 1: Were Right, well there ARE i think three that come to.
• 51:12
Speaker 1: Mind there might be a few, more but three quarterback
• 51:15
Speaker 1: situations passing off the, torch so to. Speak you've Got Montanay, young,
• 51:20
Speaker 1: Yep you've Got Brett favre To Aaron. Rodgers you've Got
• 51:23
Speaker 1: Drew bledsoe To Tom. Brady, yes, yes, now, yeah those
• 51:29
Speaker 1: are situations that are rare where you had a really
• 51:32
Speaker 1: great backup quarterback just waiting in the wings longer than
• 51:35
Speaker 1: when a lot of players are now are willing to.
• 51:36
Speaker 3: WAIT i was going to, say the fact that they
• 51:38
Speaker 3: would wait right, there they.
• 51:40
  Speaker 2: Would wait is.
• 51:41
Speaker 3: Critical and if you're a young kid and you're sitting
• 51:44
Speaker 3: behind a quarterback that's already, playing.
• 51:46
Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with. That your time can.
• 51:48
Speaker 3: Come you need to wait that, out you, know and
• 51:51
Speaker 3: and keep working, hard try to outwork. Him can you
• 51:55
Speaker 3: imagine having two of any two of those quarterbacks in training.
• 51:59
Speaker 5: Camp, no that's that's crazy, Town like, Wow, like who
• 52:06
Speaker 5: knows if that will ever happen. AGAIN i mean it, Was.
• 52:09
Speaker 2: I'm going to guess.
• 52:10
Speaker 1: No, well most of the, time it's the. Opposite you've
• 52:12
Speaker 1: got a younger quarterback who was your, stud and then
• 52:16
Speaker 1: you've got a veteran quarterback who is just trying to you,
• 52:19
Speaker 1: know living in the twilight of their, career that still
• 52:22
Speaker 1: has the knowledge but maybe not all of the physical.
• 52:25
Speaker 2: Ability, yes that is about where it.
• 52:28
Speaker 1: Is Joe, flacco for, example right forty one and you
• 52:31
Speaker 1: know two or however old he.
• 52:32
Speaker 3: Was, yeah they're still, yeah, yeah, yeah he's he just.
• 52:37
Speaker 2: Went a little too.
• 52:37
Speaker 1: Long some of them do. THOUGH i, know, YEAH i
• 52:40
Speaker 1: know some kids Say Tom brady went too, long but.
• 52:43
Speaker 5: Yeah well he was still winning Super bowls when he
• 52:46
Speaker 5: when they. RETIRED i mean it's. Crazy he went to
• 52:48
Speaker 5: The buccaneers and showed.
• 52:49
Speaker 6: Everybody but, oh and to have that kind of impact
• 52:53
Speaker 6: when you change your, team like, yeah the whole impact
• 52:56
Speaker 6: that you all of a sudden change the team and
• 52:58
Speaker 6: now you're going to a Super, Bowl you're getting to.
• 53:00
Speaker 2: The last round of the. PLAYOFFS i, mean come, on
• 53:03
  Speaker 2: that's that's that's.
• 53:04
Speaker 5: Mazing and here's the here's the other. Thing and people
• 53:07
Speaker 5: are saying, this you, know it's kind of out there
• 53:09
Speaker 5: that the future goat of THE nfl quarterbacks will Be Patrick.
• 53:14
Speaker 5: Mahomes and they, say because you know he's physically you,
• 53:18
Speaker 5: know he's they think he's a little more physically talented Than, brady,
• 53:23
Speaker 5: right and he's on pace to Challenge brady's, legacy like
• 53:27
Speaker 5: a lot of his, awards a lot of his. STATISTICS i,
• 53:30
Speaker 5: Mean i'm not saying that, this you, Know i'm not.
• 53:32
Speaker 1: Sure to depend a lot on the next five, years.
• 53:34
Speaker 5: Right and whether he can stay. Healthy.
• 53:36
Speaker 3: Right i'll say this just to add to your to.
• 53:41
  Speaker 3: THAT i think he's a great. Quarterback BUT i think
• 53:44
Speaker 3: that they're different. Quarterbacks and WHEN i say, DIFFERENT i
• 53:49
Speaker 3: Think mahomes is the guy that can move around and
• 53:52
Speaker 3: do all these kind of. Things and so now you're
• 53:54
Speaker 3: now you're putting him in a category of like A Steve, young,
• 53:58
Speaker 3: right more so than you, know a quarterback that A'
• 54:03
Speaker 3: montanna who he can move but like he wasn't he
• 54:06
Speaker 3: was trying to stay in the pocket and he could
• 54:07
  Speaker 3: throw the.
• 54:07
  Speaker 2: BALL i think, generationally LIKE i don't.
• 54:12
  Speaker 7: KNOW.
• 54:15
Speaker 3: I think he take all the stats out of it
• 54:18
Speaker 3: and you just have to watch.
• 54:19
Speaker 5: It, yeah watch, performances watch the performance.
• 54:22
Speaker 2: On the, field watch leadership and all those kinds of.
• 54:24
  Speaker 3: Things.
• 54:25
Speaker 2: Yeah AND i think when you when you.
• 54:27
Speaker 3: See, that you, know it's it's easy to see and you're,
• 54:32
Speaker 3: like oh, wow, gosh he's like running.
• 54:34
Speaker 2: That he's running that, team he's running that. Offense AND
• 54:37
Speaker 2: i think there are players who are great, players but
• 54:40
Speaker 2: they're not the leaders of the team as a. Quarterback
• 54:43
  Speaker 2: AND i think that's.
• 54:44
Speaker 3: They're not natural and players don't respect him to that.
• 54:48
Speaker 3: Degree who's gonna Challenge who's gonna Challenge Tom?
• 54:52
Speaker 2: Brady? Yeah you, know who's.
• 54:54
Speaker 3: Gonna come up and say What lineman OR dB or
• 54:56
Speaker 3: whatever it's gonna, Say, man come, on you gotta Do
• 54:59
  Speaker 3: who's gonna do?
• 54:59
  Speaker 7: That?
• 55:00
Speaker 1: Yeah how many clips Of Lebron james flopping do you
• 55:03
  Speaker 1: think There.
• 55:03
