- 0:01Several years ago, there was a worldwide.
- 0:03Pandemic that affected many 10s of millions of people, which was
- 0:08called the COVID-19 pandemic. It provided us a clear
- 0:13opportunity to see the impact of fear on the reactions of people.
- 0:19Panic ensued. Stores closed, Public access was
- 0:23shut down. In many places, people tried to
- 0:26avoid the pandemic by staying at home and minimizing their
- 0:30interaction with other people, keeping their distance, using
- 0:34face masks, protective gear such as plastic Shields, and using a
- 0:39lot of hand sanitizer products. Individual who became I'll were
- 0:45quarantined, and even those hospitalized or dying from the
- 0:49pandemic were prevented from interacting with family and
- 0:54friends. We saw a similar but less
- 0:57complete response to the HIV epidemic, which appeared to
- 1:01impact a much smaller number of people and be confined more to a
- 1:06specific demographics. Anyone who had HIV was basically
- 1:11ostracized by others due to fear.
- 1:15The bubonic plague in Europe in the Middle Ages had an
- 1:18extraordinarily amount of fear attached to it.
- 1:23With towns walled off and closed down, trade halted in many
- 1:27places and people trying to escape the plague infestations
- 1:32by going out to other non infected areas.
- 1:36Albert Camus, in his book The Plague and Daniel Defoe in his
- 1:42book A Journal of the Plague Year, provided outstanding
- 1:46insights to the events and psychological forces at work,
- 1:50including the influence of societal fear on the reactions
- 1:55of people. The extreme fear weakened the
- 1:58vital sheath of most individuals, who thus were more
- 2:01subject to succumbing to the pandemic, and opened up a
- 2:06pathway for the vibrations that brought on the changes to the
- 2:10body that accompanied the illness to actually enter and
- 2:14carry out their task of infection.
- 2:17The fear and the suggestions that accompanied it predisposed
- 2:22the body to respond to those vibrations, thus making the
- 2:26illness more virulent and effective in its penetration
- 2:30through the protective sheath of the vital envelope, Fiorabindo
- 2:36notes quote they the subtle forces of illness first weaken
- 2:41or breakthrough the nervous envelope, the aura, if that is
- 2:46strong and whole. 1000 million germs will not be able to do
- 2:50anything to you. The envelope pierced, they
- 2:54attack the subconscious mind in the body.
- 2:57Sometimes also the vital mind or mind proper prepare the illness
- 3:02by fear or thought of illness. The doctors themselves say that
- 3:07in influenza or cholera in the Far East, 90% get ill through
- 3:13fear. Nothing to take away the
- 3:16resistance like fear, but still the subconscious is the main
- 3:21thing. If the contrary force is strong
- 3:26in the body, one can move in the midst of plague and cholera and
- 3:31never get contaminated. End Quote Reference Shriorobindo
