- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili mornings on demand on 97.1 Wash FM.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Welcome to a brand new day, Tuesday, the 6th of October.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It's 97.1 Wash FM. Toby and Chili in the morning
- 0:13Speaker 2: at 866-927-4361. You are cordially invited to call us this
- 0:17Speaker 2: morning and tell us why you are feeling good as
- 0:21Speaker 2: we get this brand new day started together. Chili, why
- 0:25Speaker 2: are you feeling good today on this Tuesday? It was
- 0:28Speaker 2: Monday calm. And copacetic for you?
- 0:32Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:32Speaker 4: And there were no meetings yesterday.
- 0:34Speaker 2: Hallelujah.
- 0:35Speaker 4: Can't say the same for today or tomorrow.
- 0:37Speaker 2: I don't know. Would we have a meeting today?
- 0:40Speaker 4: I have a meeting today.
- 0:41Speaker 3: Okay.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Well, good. You enjoy that. I'm not even trying to
- 0:46Speaker 2: worry about no meetings around here. They know where to
- 0:48Speaker 2: get me if they need me.
- 0:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 0:49Speaker 4: But this one is right after the show.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Not.
- 0:52Speaker 4: Almost two hours after the show. Well, at least there's that.
- 0:54Speaker 2: At least.
- 0:55Speaker 1: Yes.
- 0:55Speaker 2: At least you got it out of the way. I
- 0:57Speaker 2: will hopefully get it out of the way. Wednesday's going
- 0:59Speaker 2: to be a nightmare for me. Cause I, uh, have
- 1:02Speaker 2: to go get physical therapy on Wednesday this week. And
- 1:06Speaker 2: that's going to come right after this after work meeting.
- 1:08Speaker 2: I don't even want to think about it right now.
- 1:10Speaker 2: I'm trying to feel something good. You know what? I'm
- 1:12Speaker 2: feeling great today because of technology. And here's why. Uh,
- 1:15Speaker 2: so my car has been in the shop. I had to, uh,
- 1:18Speaker 2: hitch a ride with, uh, Sam. Well, Samuel, who, uh,
- 1:22Speaker 2: Was there for me a lot when I was more
- 1:25Speaker 2: injured than I am now. Picks me up, and I
- 1:28Speaker 2: totally felt like I forgot something. I forgot my man purse,
- 1:32Speaker 2: which is a wearable wallet. I started wearing those just
- 1:36Speaker 2: because when I was injured, it was just easier for me.
- 1:39Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 1:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:40Speaker 2: But here's the thing I didn't forget. My phone. You
- 1:43Speaker 2: know what's on my phone? My Apple wallet, which includes
- 1:46Speaker 2: my passport, my driver's license, enough credit cards that if
- 1:50Speaker 2: anything goes wrong, I'm fine. And it also, well, I mean,
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm covered because of it. And that is a good thing. Technology.
- 1:59Speaker 2: It's not the enemy. Don't be scared of it. I
- 2:02Speaker 2: just hope I don't lose my phone anytime soon or
- 2:05Speaker 2: I'm going to just, you know, totally be upset with
- 2:07Speaker 2: myself for jinxing myself. But you'll have these things. And
- 2:10Speaker 2: so we begin a brand new day. Hopefully you are
- 2:13Speaker 2: feeling good this morning. If not, well, maybe it will
- 2:17Speaker 2: help you turn it around today because that's why we're here.
- 2:20Speaker 2: Thanks for choosing us. We know you need the news.
- 2:22Speaker 2: Top Stories at the top of the hour on this Tuesday. Chile,
- 2:25Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 2:26Speaker 3: In case you missed it, Washington Capitol star Alex Ovechkin
- 2:30Speaker 3: said that this is going to be his final NHL season.
- 2:34Speaker 3: I've got the latest on that story and others on the.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Way in just a few minutes.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 2:42Speaker 4: The president says the U.S.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Is ready to help Russia after a lab worker died
- 2:47Speaker 3: following possible plague exposure. Russian officials first blamed the plague,
- 2:52Speaker 3: then pneumonia, and some reports say that nearly 200 people
- 2:55Speaker 3: have been quarantined. The president also signed an order aimed
- 2:59Speaker 3: at lowering diesel prices right away. Through the end of
- 3:02Speaker 3: the year, anyone can use red-dyed diesel, which is the
- 3:06Speaker 3: tax-free kind that's normally limited to off-road use like tractors.
- 3:12Speaker 3: A fuel spill from a tractor trailer triggered several crashes
- 3:16Speaker 3: on the inner loop of the Beltway yesterday afternoon. Up
- 3:18Speaker 3: to a dozen vehicles were involved. Prince George's County is
- 3:22Speaker 3: all in on bringing a sphere to National Harbor. So
- 3:26Speaker 3: the council voted unanimously for a special taxing district and
- 3:31Speaker 3: up to $ 215 million in bonds to help pay for it.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Metro's proposing an 11% fare increase for rail, bus, and
- 3:41Speaker 3: metro access. Rail fares would range anywhere from $ 250 to $ 750.
- 3:48Speaker 3: and a public hearing is planned for this winter if approved,
- 3:50Speaker 3: those new fairs would start on July 1st. Washington Capitol
- 3:54Speaker 3: star Alex Ovechkin says this is going to be his
- 3:57Speaker 3: final NHL season. He made the announcement yesterday, right before
- 4:01Speaker 3: tomorrow night's home opener. Ovi, of course, helped the Caps
- 4:04Speaker 3: win its only Stanley Cup back in 2018. And Halloween
- 4:09Speaker 3: costumes might be a tough sell this year with Only
- 4:12Speaker 3: about three in four Americans, or rather saying they're not
- 4:15Speaker 3: going to be dressing up. So 75% of Americans are
- 4:18Speaker 3: not going to be dressing up. And of those who will,
- 4:21Speaker 3: the sexy version of anything apparently is the look that
- 4:25Speaker 3: people dislike the most. Forecast for today, sunny skies, highs
- 4:30Speaker 3: around 65. Right now, though, it's 50 in Reston.
- 4:33Speaker 2: Now that you've got the news, top stories at the
- 4:36Speaker 2: top of the hour, remember... Tell at least five friends
- 4:40Speaker 2: that you get your news from Toby and Chili in
- 4:42Speaker 2: the morning. Right around 10 past every hour, every weekday
- 4:46Speaker 2: with 97.1 Wash FM. And we also take the time
- 4:49Speaker 2: in the morning to check in with you and your headspace,
- 4:53Speaker 2: your morning mindset. If you've been having an interesting day,
- 4:56Speaker 2: maybe yesterday didn't go the way you wanted it to
- 4:59Speaker 2: as we started a brand new week. This could be
- 5:01Speaker 2: helpful and it's on the way for you. And now
- 5:05Speaker 2: it is time for your morning mindset here at 97.1
- 5:08Speaker 2: Wash FM. Just finding us. Well, this is when.
- 5:12Speaker 3: We find a quote and share it with you to
- 5:14Speaker 3: think about as you go about your day, maybe for
- 5:17Speaker 3: a little motivation or even inspiration.
- 5:19Speaker 2: It's all about you today. And it's all about courage.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Misty Copeland says, do not spend your entire life waiting
- 5:29Speaker 2: to feel fearless before you begin. Don't spend your entire
- 5:34Speaker 2: life waiting to feel fearless before you begin. I mean,
- 5:39Speaker 2: when you think about it, life is full of stories
- 5:41Speaker 2: of people who didn't get their life started until 55, 60.
- 5:45Speaker 2: You know, what are you waiting on? Courage means taking
- 5:49Speaker 2: the next step, even if you're nervous. So jump, even
- 5:54Speaker 2: if you've never jumped before. Do something that scares you.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Don't wait to be fearless or to feel fearless before
- 6:01Speaker 2: you start. Why would you hold yourself back? Keep that
- 6:05Speaker 2: in mind as you get this day started. If you
- 6:08Speaker 2: need those words one more time, you'll find them. Get
- 6:12Speaker 2: to our Insta. Find us on Facebook. Toby and Tilly
- 6:14Speaker 2: Page works too. Thank you for letting these words help
- 6:18Speaker 2: to motivate you to take on this brand new day.
- 6:21Speaker 2: And stay right there because there's a new trend we
- 6:23Speaker 2: should talk about this morning.
- 6:24Speaker 3: Especially if you have trouble trying to figure out where
- 6:28Speaker 3: to go for lunch.
- 6:29Speaker 5: Where?
- 6:30Speaker 3: And we'll tell you all about it and get ready
- 6:33Speaker 3: for lunch today.
- 6:35Speaker 2: You thinking about lunch today? Of course you are. It's Tuesday.
- 6:39Speaker 2: You've got to eat. It's important. 97.1 Wash FM. We're
- 6:43Speaker 2: Toby and Chili in the morning. But oh, where to go?
- 6:45Speaker 2: Sometimes the Rolodex lunch places can get a little lean.
- 6:49Speaker 2: And you're like, why do we have to go back
- 6:51Speaker 2: to that place? Well, there's a trend making its way
- 6:54Speaker 2: around the Internet, social media, specifically TikTok, that you might
- 7:00Speaker 2: want to consider to break up the monotony of lunch.
- 7:02Speaker 3: It's called Lunch in My City. And the rules are
- 7:05Speaker 3: pretty simple. You go to your TikTok page and you
- 7:08Speaker 3: search the phrase Lunch in My City. And then you
- 7:11Speaker 3: just click on the first local restaurant video that pops up.
- 7:14Speaker 3: Usually it's some sort of influencer who's doing a review.
- 7:17Speaker 3: And I try that right before we crack the mics open.
- 7:20Speaker 3: And for me, this place called... Ala, A-L-A restaurant in
- 7:24Speaker 3: Bethesda popped up. It's a small plate Mediterranean restaurant.
- 7:28Speaker 4: And I've never been.
- 7:29Speaker 3: So this is great because it helps you discover places
- 7:33Speaker 3: you've never been to.
- 7:33Speaker 4: What came up for you?
- 7:34Speaker 2: For me, this place that was recommended by DC Cheap Eats. Hello.
- 7:39Speaker 2: Yummy Bowl in Rockville.
- 7:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 7:41Speaker 2: Yes, it seems that Yummy Bowl is a Mongolian stir
- 7:45Speaker 2: fry and sushi joint.
- 7:46Speaker 4: And have you been?
- 7:47Speaker 2: No, I have not. But they have a 1999 Mongolian
- 7:50Speaker 2: barbecue buffet in Rockville. And to me, that could be
- 7:54Speaker 2: very dangerous and very tasty.
- 7:56Speaker 4: By the way, yes, it's lunch in my city. That's
- 7:59Speaker 4: the trend.
- 7:59Speaker 3: But you could also type in breakfast in my city
- 8:02Speaker 3: or dinner in my city. And the same thing will happen.
- 8:04Speaker 3: The algorithm can help you plan your next outing.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Now, just a heads up, too, because you might be
- 8:10Speaker 2: one of those people who still has like a phone
- 8:13Speaker 2: number from 15 to 20 years ago with a different
- 8:16Speaker 2: area code. Or maybe you're logged in and it doesn't
- 8:19Speaker 2: realize you're where you're at. That's the thing with this trend.
- 8:23Speaker 2: I've noticed it. You have to turn on your location settings. Yeah,
- 8:26Speaker 2: turn your location settings on or just specify. Lunch in
- 8:29Speaker 2: my city, Rockville. you know, and then boom, it all
- 8:32Speaker 2: comes up because I got some place in Brooklyn. There's
- 8:34Speaker 2: no way I'm going to make lunch in Brooklyn today.
- 8:36Speaker 2: But you should try this because it's very unique, very
- 8:40Speaker 2: interesting and full of good new ideas for all of us.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Check it. The Toby and Chili page, washfm.com. Top stories
- 8:46Speaker 2: at the top of the hour. That's the news. And
- 8:48Speaker 2: it's on the way in minutes, right around 610. Chili,
- 8:51Speaker 2: what are you working on this morning?
- 8:52Speaker 3: So you're thinking about putting a jack-o'-lantern out on your
- 8:56Speaker 3: front porch coming up in just a few minutes. I'm
- 8:58Speaker 3: going to tell you the best time to carve that pumpkin.
- 9:03Speaker 2: What's doing on Saturday morning? You feel like walking for
- 9:06Speaker 2: a great cause? Well, we would love for you to
- 9:09Speaker 2: join us. It's 97.1 Wash FM. Tell me you're chilly
- 9:12Speaker 2: in the morning.
- 9:12Speaker 3: Well, it is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and every
- 9:16Speaker 3: year we do the Susan G.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Komen More Than Pink Walk.
- 9:19Speaker 3: It'll be this Saturday, National Harbor, sponsored by Mattress Warehouse.
- 9:23Speaker 2: Come on down. Be a part of it. Join the fight.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Get to washfm.com slash pink for all that you must know.
- 9:30Speaker 1: 97.1 WASH-FM, Washington. An iHeartRadio station. Coming up on Top Stories,
- 9:38Speaker 1: top of the hour.
- 9:38Speaker 2: The U.S.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Says it's ready to help Russia after a lab worker
- 9:42Speaker 3: died following possible plague exposure. We've got the latest on
- 9:47Speaker 3: that story and others on the way. With Toby and
- 9:50Speaker 3: Chili in the morning on 97.1 WASH-FM.
- 9:56Speaker 1: Top Stories, top of the hour.
- 9:58Speaker 3: The U.S. says it's ready to help Russia help Russia
- 10:00Speaker 3: after a lab worker there died following possible plague exposure.
- 10:04Speaker 3: Russia first said that the woman had plague and then
- 10:07Speaker 3: called it pneumonia. A fuel spill from a tractor trailer
- 10:11Speaker 3: triggered a crash involving more than a dozen vehicles. This
- 10:14Speaker 3: happened on the inner loop of the Beltway in Montgomery
- 10:16Speaker 3: County yesterday and about 20 people died. were evaluated for injuries.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Metro riders could soon pay about 11% more to ride.
- 10:26Speaker 3: That is a hike that would bring in an extra
- 10:29Speaker 3: $ 45 million. However, kids between five and 18 could ride free,
- 10:35Speaker 3: and the Metro Board will talk about both ideas this week.
- 10:39Speaker 3: Montgomery County could soon hit street takeover participants with fines
- 10:43Speaker 3: of up to $ 5, 000. A council committee advanced the bill yesterday,
- 10:47Speaker 3: and supporters say that a steeper penalty is needed to
- 10:51Speaker 3: deter the racing.
- 10:53Speaker 4: You want to see.
- 10:54Speaker 3: Alex Ovechkin's final regular season game with the Washington Capitals? Well,
- 10:58Speaker 3: it's going to cost you because just hours after he
- 11:01Speaker 3: announced his retirement, resale tickets for the April 4th game
- 11:05Speaker 3: against the Penguins started at over $ 1, 000. A new grocery store,
- 11:11Speaker 3: possibly a Publix, could be coming to Dumfries. The town
- 11:15Speaker 3: council approved the rezoning last month. And tonight they're going
- 11:18Speaker 3: to take up the final permits for the store. And finally,
- 11:21Speaker 3: if you're thinking about putting a jack-o'-lantern out on your
- 11:25Speaker 3: French porch, the Farmer's Almanac says that the best time
- 11:28Speaker 3: to carve that pumpkin is October 28th through the 30th.
- 11:33Speaker 3: So make sure you keep it cool and out of
- 11:35Speaker 3: the sun until then. And the forecast for today, beautiful,
- 11:39Speaker 3: lots of sun. Highs around 65. Right now, 49 in Riverdale.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And that's the news. Remember, you get your news right
- 11:47Speaker 2: around 10 past every hour. Top stories at the top
- 11:51Speaker 2: of the hour here at 97.1 Wash FM. So coming
- 11:54Speaker 2: up in just a bit, let's talk about college degrees.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Are they even necessary? Because the confidence in a college
- 12:02Speaker 2: degree is now in America at an all-time low.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 12:07Speaker 2: What's made college worth it? What made that degree, that
- 12:11Speaker 2: piece of paper worth it for you? 866-927-4361. Join us.
- 12:16Speaker 2: We're talking about it. You're going to have some thoughts,
- 12:19Speaker 2: more than likely. If you do, either tap the talkback
- 12:22Speaker 2: microphone if you're listening to us on your iHeart app
- 12:24Speaker 2: or call 866-927-4361 and jump in. Toby and Chili in
- 12:29Speaker 2: the morning, 97.1. Watch FM on this Tuesday morning. We're
- 12:32Speaker 2: talking about college and college degrees and what made college
- 12:36Speaker 2: worth it to you. It seems that American confidence in
- 12:39Speaker 2: the degree, Chili, is at an all-time low.
- 12:42Speaker 3: Only 31% of people say that a degree is very important.
- 12:46Speaker 4: That is the lowest ever.
- 12:48Speaker 3: That's down from 70% saying it was important back in 2013.
- 12:51Speaker 3: And the biggest reason is because it costs so much
- 12:54Speaker 3: and you don't get the return on your investment. You're
- 12:56Speaker 3: never going to make enough money to pay off that loan.
- 12:58Speaker 3: So what's the point of going to college?
- 13:01Speaker 2: Right. Especially when you've got trade schools and other like
- 13:05Speaker 2: educational opportunities that can teach you exactly what it is
- 13:08Speaker 2: that you need to know. And half the time, maybe
- 13:11Speaker 2: even faster than that, at a fraction of the cost.
- 13:15Speaker 3: I grew up in a household where college was super important.
- 13:18Speaker 3: It was a must. You have to go. You have
- 13:20Speaker 3: to graduate. We're not raising our son that way.
- 13:22Speaker 4: To your point.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I would be thrilled if my son came to me
- 13:25Speaker 3: and said he wanted to be an electrician or a
- 13:27Speaker 3: plumber because that's called job security, honey. Yeah.
- 13:29Speaker 4: And trade school is not going to cost us as
- 13:31Speaker 4: much as college.
- 13:32Speaker 2: No, of course not. That'll be more money for your
- 13:34Speaker 2: retirement beach house.
- 13:35Speaker 4: That's right.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Just saying. No, in my family, we had four boys.
- 13:39Speaker 2: The twins, my youngest brothers, they got their education degrees
- 13:42Speaker 2: and they both are teachers. They finished. They were the
- 13:45Speaker 2: only two to finish. My brother, Todd. Did not. But
- 13:47Speaker 2: you know what? He's got security clearance. He works for
- 13:50Speaker 2: a company that works for the federal government. And for me, well,
- 13:54Speaker 2: I mean, I was writing for a newspaper because I
- 13:56Speaker 2: really kicked some behind in high school and got very
- 13:59Speaker 2: passionate about writing and then got a job doing it
- 14:03Speaker 2: after I wanted to flip this script, got into radio.
- 14:06Speaker 2: It was because of a college radio practicum class. But
- 14:09Speaker 2: you know what? Once that opened the door, it was
- 14:11Speaker 2: off to the races.
- 14:12Speaker 3: You proved that you didn't have to graduate college to
- 14:15Speaker 3: get into our industry.
- 14:16Speaker 4: There are different paths to get here.
- 14:18Speaker 3: But there are other things that college does give you
- 14:21Speaker 3: that aren't just about what you learn in books. For example,
- 14:24Speaker 3: I learned to be independent and I grew so much
- 14:27Speaker 3: as a person in those four years that I wouldn't
- 14:31Speaker 3: trade that for anything.
- 14:32Speaker 2: I don't know, Chili. For the couple of years I
- 14:34Speaker 2: was there, I ended up having a really good time.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I got some self-confidence in myself.
- 14:40Speaker 4: With the ladies.
- 14:40Speaker 2: Yeah, college. It was an experience. Got thoughts? What made
- 14:44Speaker 2: college worth it for you?
- 14:45Speaker 3: 866-927-4361.
- 14:46Speaker 2: Call now, jump in, and tell us everything. The College Experience.
- 14:54Speaker 2: Once upon a time, a rite of passage, but now
- 14:57Speaker 2: Americans feel like that piece of paper ain't worth the
- 15:00Speaker 2: paper that the diploma is printed on.
- 15:02Speaker 3: Why?
- 15:03Speaker 2: Well, lots of different reasons, mainly cost.
- 15:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:06Speaker 2: We were talking about it a bit ago with Toby
- 15:08Speaker 2: and Chili in the morning here at 97.1 Wash FM.
- 15:11Speaker 3: That only 31% of people in the U.S. think that
- 15:14Speaker 3: a college degree is quote unquote very important. But we
- 15:17Speaker 3: all have to admit there are other things that make
- 15:20Speaker 3: college worth it.
- 15:22Speaker 2: Yes, and the number is 866-927-4361. If you would like
- 15:26Speaker 2: to share some of those College Was Worth It For
- 15:28Speaker 2: Me stories, like in Gambrills. Good morning, Leslie. What you got?
- 15:32Speaker 4: Honestly, it was the people.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Hmm.
- 15:35Speaker 4: Which people?
- 15:36Speaker 1: I met my best friends there, and we still talk
- 15:38Speaker 1: every week.
- 15:39Speaker 4: Are there any courses that stand out?
- 15:41Speaker 3: I don't remember half of the lectures, but I remember
- 15:44Speaker 3: those random Tuesday nights that turned into stories we still tell.
- 15:48Speaker 4: Mm-hmm. Over at Papa John's Pizza.
- 15:51Speaker 2: With some adult beverages, I'm sure. College, it was a
- 15:55Speaker 2: rite of passage. What about you there, David? Thanks for
- 15:58Speaker 2: calling from West Falls Church this morning. Do you agree
- 16:01Speaker 2: with Leslie's assessment?
- 16:03Speaker 5: College is worth it for me because I made a
- 16:05Speaker 5: great career for myself as a lawyer.
- 16:07Speaker 2: Well, counselor, good morning.
- 16:09Speaker 4: What about the friendships?
- 16:10Speaker 1: I did make some.
- 16:11Speaker 5: Friends while in school, but I only really kept in
- 16:13Speaker 5: touch with like.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Two of them.
- 16:15Speaker 2: Well, David, I mean, OK, I think friendships, that's all
- 16:20Speaker 2: part of the college experience that you take with you
- 16:23Speaker 2: after college. But that's maybe just me.
- 16:25Speaker 3: How many friends are you keeping in touch with?
- 16:27Speaker 2: Seven to 10 really depends. I have to check Facebook.
- 16:30Speaker 4: See, social media does make it easy. They do.
- 16:32Speaker 2: They jump in from time to time. They're like, hey,
- 16:34Speaker 2: do you remember that one time? And I'm like, yep,
- 16:36Speaker 2: I do. What was your name again? I'm just kidding.
- 16:39Speaker 2: It wasn't like that. We're Toby and Chili in the
- 16:41Speaker 2: morning here at 97.1 Wash FM. I hope you made

- 16:59Speaker 3: day rituals that you refuse to break? Coming up in
- 17:02Speaker 3: just a few minutes, I'm going to tell you some
- 17:05Speaker 3: of the most common things people do.

- 18:15Speaker 3: Through the end of the year, anyone can use red-dyed diesel,
- 18:18Speaker 3: and that is the tax-free kind that is normally limited
- 18:21Speaker 3: to off-road use like tractors. Prince George's County seems to
- 18:26Speaker 3: be all in on bringing a sphere to National Harbor.
- 18:31Speaker 3: The council voted unanimously for a special taxing district and
- 18:35Speaker 3: up to $ 215 million in bonds to help pay for it.

- 19:03Speaker 3: just ahead of tomorrow night's home opener. Ovi helped the

- 19:10Speaker 3: a new survey finds that a third of football fans
- 19:13Speaker 3: think that their game day rituals can really sway the outcome.
- 19:17Speaker 3: And another third will not risk finding out. Lucky clothes
- 19:21Speaker 3: top the list of rituals. And for many fans, the
- 19:24Speaker 3: tradition was handed down from their parents. Forecast for today,
- 19:29Speaker 3: lots of sunshine. Highs are going to be around 65
- 19:31Speaker 3: right now, 48 in Bristow.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Let's get into it on this Tuesday morning. The question is.
- 19:42Speaker 3: 48% of people say getting this response is the biggest
- 19:47Speaker 3: sign that someone is really bad at texting.
- 19:49Speaker 4: What is it?
- 19:50Speaker 2: Oh, it could be any number of things. 866-927-4361 is
- 19:55Speaker 2: the number. Figure out what thing it is, get it right,
- 19:58Speaker 2: and you'll go see Usher and Chris Brown in Minty
- 20:00Speaker 2: Bank Stadium on October 17th. Thanks to Live Nation. The
- 20:04Speaker 2: question again.
- 20:04Speaker 3: 48% of people say getting this response is the biggest
- 20:09Speaker 3: sign that someone is really bad at texting.
- 20:12Speaker 4: What is it?
- 20:13Speaker 2: Usher. Chris Brown. Tickets up for grabs right now.
- 20:16Speaker 3: 866-927-4361.
- 20:16Speaker 2: Call now. Game on.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Toby and Chili's Nearly Impossible Question.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Let's get the question one more time for those who
- 20:26Speaker 2: might have missed it.
- 20:27Speaker 3: 48% of people say this is the biggest sign that
- 20:32Speaker 3: someone is really bad at texting.
- 20:34Speaker 4: What is it?
- 20:34Speaker 3: 866-927-4361.
- 20:35Speaker 2: Get it right. Go see Usher and Chris Brown. M &
- 20:40Speaker 2: T Bank Stadium, October 17th. Thanks to Live Nation. What
- 20:45Speaker 2: is your name and where are you from? Hi, this
- 20:47Speaker 2: is Ed calling from Crofton. What's up, Big Ed in Crofton?
- 20:50Speaker 2: How are you today?
- 20:51Speaker 1: Doing great.
- 20:52Speaker 2: How about yourselves this morning? We are great as well.
- 20:56Speaker 2: And thank you for asking. You've got the question. For
- 20:59Speaker 2: these tickets, what's the answer?
- 21:01Speaker 4: I'm going to say when somebody texts back the letter K.
- 21:04Speaker 5: Wow.
- 21:05Speaker 4: That they're too lazy to put an O in front
- 21:07Speaker 4: of the K?
- 21:08Speaker 3: Sure.
- 21:09Speaker 4: Just K.
- 21:10Speaker 2: That's a very lazy move indeed.
- 21:12Speaker 3: Is that a sign for you that someone's not great
- 21:14Speaker 3: at texting it?
- 21:15Speaker 2: No, it's more of a sign for me that somebody's
- 21:17Speaker 2: not into texting. Oh, that's actually a very fair point.
- 21:21Speaker 2: That's true. You know, it's crazy that people still use
- 21:24Speaker 2: things like K because most phones now give you like
- 21:28Speaker 2: complete options to reply with. Like they asked a question. Sure,
- 21:33Speaker 2: I'll let you know what I think. Or, you know,
- 21:35Speaker 2: they give you automatic replies.
- 21:37Speaker 4: I guess it's too much work to find the right emoji.
- 21:40Speaker 2: That's true, too. You know, there's too many emojis these days.
- 21:43Speaker 2: I'm with you. Yeah.
- 21:44Speaker 3: 48% of people say that responding with just K is
- 21:50Speaker 3: the biggest sign someone's bad at texting.
- 21:52Speaker 4: That means you got this answer correct.
- 21:55Speaker 2: All right. No, you're supposed to say K. Usher, Chris Brown,
- 21:58Speaker 2: M & T Bank Stadium, Live Nation's making it happen,
- 22:02Speaker 2: and you've got tickets for the show October 17th. Congratulations. Oh,
- 22:06Speaker 2: that's great. Thank you so much. All right, man. You
- 22:08Speaker 2: enjoy the show and have a good day today, all right?
- 22:11Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:11Speaker 2: All right. Exactly. Let me find an emoji for you. Oh,
- 22:16Speaker 2: I can't. I'm too lazy. All right, brother. Have a
- 22:18Speaker 2: great day. We'll do the same. And remember, we've got
- 22:21Speaker 2: more tickets for you to see Usher and Chris Brown
- 22:24Speaker 2: tomorrow morning. Another round of your nearly impossible question right
- 22:27Speaker 2: around 710 with Toby and Chili in the morning. Don't
- 22:30Speaker 2: wander too far because.
- 22:32Speaker 3: Apparently, social media or the fear of going viral is
- 22:37Speaker 3: keeping people from doing this in public.
- 22:39Speaker 4: What is it? We'll all find out together.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Do you feel like you can be your authentic self
- 22:45Speaker 2: in public? 866-927-4361. It's a pretty interesting question to pose
- 22:51Speaker 2: this morning here at 97.1 Wash FM with Tilby and
- 22:54Speaker 2: Chili in the morning because there's a survey out.
- 22:57Speaker 3: That says 47%. of people say the possibility of somebody
- 23:00Speaker 3: recording them and making their reactions or how they behave
- 23:04Speaker 3: in public social media content makes it tough for them
- 23:07Speaker 3: to relax and enjoy themselves.
- 23:09Speaker 2: No showing strong emotions no dancing no being silly or
- 23:12Speaker 2: telling jokes People are scurred. They don't want to be recorded.
- 23:17Speaker 2: They don't want to become a viral phenomenon. One in
- 23:20Speaker 2: five have skipped hanging out with friends because of this.
- 23:23Speaker 2: And Chili, get this, almost 20%, 19%, they've avoided bars
- 23:28Speaker 2: or going out and enjoying nightlife. why this fear what
- 23:33Speaker 2: are we afraid of people.
- 23:34Speaker 3: Because they're afraid that maybe 10 to 15 seconds of
- 23:38Speaker 3: a moment in your life could then be posted online
- 23:42Speaker 3: and others will basically criticize you.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Well mind your p's and q's everybody does welcome to
- 23:51Speaker 2: the world of social media and video cameras everywhere i I.
- 23:56Speaker 3: Don't really think that much about it when I'm out
- 23:59Speaker 3: and about. Does it cross your mind?
- 24:01Speaker 1: No.
- 24:01Speaker 4: That you might be recorded?
- 24:03Speaker 2: The only time it kind of does is when I
- 24:05Speaker 2: feel myself getting, you know, I feel like the boiling
- 24:09Speaker 2: pot of water on a stove.
- 24:11Speaker 4: That's true.
- 24:12Speaker 2: I reel that back if I'm out in public, because
- 24:14Speaker 2: you know what? Nobody needs to see anybody go off
- 24:17Speaker 2: like that. And especially not at a member of family
- 24:20Speaker 2: or a loved one or whatnot. And at the same
- 24:23Speaker 2: point in time, I can't stand it when people like,
- 24:25Speaker 2: you know, started on me like a dinner or whatever,
- 24:27Speaker 2: because then they get emotional. And it's not like people
- 24:30Speaker 2: don't see that.
- 24:30Speaker 4: Well, that's true.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I think that if it keeps people from being nasty
- 24:34Speaker 3: to each other, that's a good thing. But I hope
- 24:36Speaker 3: it doesn't hold you back from dancing and being silly.
- 24:39Speaker 4: Because that makes you human. And I think relatable. So
- 24:42Speaker 4: continue to be your silly self.
- 24:44Speaker 2: That's right. There's nothing wrong with laying on the horn
- 24:46Speaker 2: when somebody is not going and the light is green.
- 24:50Speaker 2: There's nothing wrong with that. Just go ahead. Let it
- 24:53Speaker 2: out a little bit. You're doing a public service. If
- 24:56Speaker 2: you want to read the breakdown on this, we've got
- 24:58Speaker 2: it for you. Check out the Toby and Chili page

- 25:13Speaker 3: Are you still chasing your dream job? Well, researchers say
- 25:18Speaker 3: That effort might actually backfire, and I'll explain why in
- 25:21Speaker 3: just a few minutes.
- 25:22Speaker 2: You need that reset money, but come on now. Resets
- 25:27Speaker 2: are expensive. Hair doesn't pay for itself, nor does the mani-pedi,

- 26:30Speaker 3: spill from a tractor trailer triggered a crash involving more

- 26:39Speaker 4: About 20 people were evaluated for injuries.
- 26:44Speaker 3: Metro riders could soon pay about 11% more to ride.
- 26:48Speaker 3: That's a hike that would bring in an extra $ 45 million.
- 26:51Speaker 3: But kids ages 5 to 18 could ride free, and
- 26:55Speaker 3: Metro plans to discuss both those ideas this week. Montgomery
- 27:00Speaker 3: County could soon hit street takeover participants with fines of
- 27:03Speaker 3: up to $ 5, 000. A council committee advanced that bill yesterday,
- 27:08Speaker 3: and supporters say that a steeper penalty is needed to
- 27:10Speaker 3: deter the racing. Loudoun County supervisors are going to meet
- 27:14Speaker 3: today on ending a loophole for data centers. Last year's
- 27:18Speaker 3: new rules exempted projects that are already in the approval pipeline,
- 27:23Speaker 3: and the board is deciding whether to keep that exception.
- 27:27Speaker 4: So you want to see.
- 27:27Speaker 3: Alex Ovechkin's final regular season game with the Washington Capitals? Well,
- 27:32Speaker 3: it's going to cost you because hours after he announced
- 27:34Speaker 3: his retirement, resale tickets for the April 4th game against
- 27:38Speaker 3: the Penguins started at over $ 1, 000. And chasing a single
- 27:44Speaker 3: dream job might backfire. Research shows that bosses tend to

- 27:57Speaker 3: a failure. So experts say you should just build skills
- 28:01Speaker 3: that transfer. Forecast today, lots of sunshine. Highs in the mid-60s.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Right now, 48 inboids.

- 28:17Speaker 2: you at 866-927-4361 about something that you got your hands on.
- 28:22Speaker 2: You obtained it. You found it. You bought it. Maybe
- 28:24Speaker 2: you fished it out of a dumpster somewhere. Whatever it was,
- 28:29Speaker 2: you transformed it into something that has become very valuable
- 28:33Speaker 2: to you. So what was it? There's a reason why
- 28:36Speaker 2: we're bringing it up. We'll tell you what that is.
- 28:38Speaker 2: And we've got to hear from you about what it
- 28:42Speaker 2: is that you found. It means so much that you
- 28:44Speaker 2: picked us to be a part of your morning. 97.1
- 28:48Speaker 2: Wash FM. We're Toby and Chili on this Tuesday morning.
- 28:50Speaker 2: Do you see this story floating around the Internet of Things?
- 28:55Speaker 2: It might have been either late last week or over
- 28:57Speaker 2: the weekend. There's a former British soldier who loves vintage clothing.
- 29:04Speaker 2: So much so that he started a side hustle, a business.
- 29:08Speaker 3: And he's making $ 53, 000 a month by buying and reselling
- 29:12Speaker 3: old clothes on the side. Which, by the way, if
- 29:15Speaker 3: you do the math, is about $ 634, 000 a year.
- 29:19Speaker 2: We're way past a side hustle now. Man, that's incredible.
- 29:22Speaker 2: It's actually his full-time job.
- 29:24Speaker 4: Yeah, that's incredible. We're in the wrong business.
- 29:26Speaker 2: We really are.
- 29:27Speaker 3: But I'm not somebody who's really good at transforming something
- 29:32Speaker 3: into something more valuable.
- 29:34Speaker 4: I don't have a gift when it comes to that.
- 29:36Speaker 2: Well, you know, I thought like you once upon a time,
- 29:39Speaker 2: and then I found out. that vintage bag that I
- 29:42Speaker 2: gave to my significant other as a birthday gift after
- 29:45Speaker 2: I went and found the pieces that it was missing.
- 29:47Speaker 2: It It needed this. It needed that. And I went
- 29:50Speaker 2: and scoured YouTube and I went and scoured eBay and
- 29:53Speaker 2: other online sites, got it all together. And she loved it.
- 29:56Speaker 2: That made me think, hmm, maybe there's something I could
- 29:59Speaker 2: do here in the event that I need a side hustle.
- 30:01Speaker 2: Of course, follow through is going to be tough. 866-927-4361
- 30:04Speaker 2: because I never follow through.
- 30:07Speaker 3: What's something you got that you then transformed into something
- 30:10Speaker 3: even more valuable?
- 30:11Speaker 2: Lawrence, good morning in Woodbridge.
- 30:14Speaker 5: I found an old piece of furniture someone was giving
- 30:16Speaker 5: away and I turned it into this nice little storage
- 30:19Speaker 5: piece for my room.
- 30:20Speaker 4: And how did you do that?
- 30:21Speaker 5: Just a little bit of cleaning, some paint and creativity
- 30:24Speaker 5: made it feel brand new.
- 30:26Speaker 3: There are people who are really good at finding stuff
- 30:28Speaker 3: like curbside trash, like dressers and turning them into beautiful furniture.
- 30:33Speaker 2: It's unbelievable what people can do. One person's trash really
- 30:37Speaker 2: is another person's treasure. Catherine Gaithersberg, so tell us about
- 30:42Speaker 2: your side hustle.
- 30:43Speaker 5: I got an old camera at an estate sale.
- 30:46Speaker 4: For $ 15. And how did that become valuable to you?
- 30:48Speaker 5: I cleaned it up, learned how to use it, and
- 30:50Speaker 5: then I started taking photos for friends' events.
- 30:53Speaker 1: And that $ 15 camera eventually turned into a side business.
- 31:00Speaker 2: There are people who are religious about craft beers. Toby
