- 0:17Welcome to Live from your heart. I'm your host,
- 0:20Les Paul Klein. For three
- 0:25decades of my life, I've lived trying
- 0:30to get others approval,
- 0:34not the truth. I lived to be accepted.
- 0:39But I wasn't real, authentic. And what did it
- 0:43cost me? Pieces of myself, over and over.
- 0:47I didn't realize I was even losing those pieces.
- 0:53This podcast, it's for anyone who knows deep down
- 0:57that they've been living someone else's version of
- 1:01their life. And they're
- 1:05ready, you're ready to come home to your own
- 1:08heart and be real and be authentic.
- 1:12Doesn't matter how old you are, doesn't matter how long
- 1:16you've been doing this, it's possible to reclaim
- 1:21your own heart. So every week we're going to talk about
- 1:25reclaiming that identity and healing old patterns and finding courage
- 1:29again. And finally living from the truest and most grounded
- 1:33place inside of you, your heart. This isn't
- 1:37therapy. It's not self help. It's just a real huge invitation for
- 1:42you to come and learn how to live a
- 1:47real life from your own heart.
- 1:50So let's jump in.
- 1:57If you've ever said, I don't even know
- 2:03what I feel anymore,
- 2:08this episode's for you. Yeah,
- 2:12I don't want to. I don't know what I feel anymore.
- 2:16I remember a time,
- 2:23Some several years later,
- 2:26after I made my decision
- 2:31to live from my own heart.
- 2:39And I had gone
- 2:43through a divorce. That's a whole story in and of itself.
- 2:51There was a time and a place where I'm
- 2:55single again and I'm
- 2:58in a new city trying
- 3:02to find myself.
- 3:06I'm trying to find my heart.
- 3:10And I.
- 3:14I found myself in a place where I
- 3:19didn't know what to feel.
- 3:25I knew, looking back,
- 3:27I should have felt something,
- 3:33but I didn't know what to feel. I was so
- 3:38lost in this.
- 3:43It was a process that I was going through.
- 3:47And honestly, this is really kind of what took place.
- 3:51I was moving
- 3:55from a false self to
- 4:00find my real self and live from
- 4:04my own heart. And not a life that
- 4:08was mapped out and dictated by my
- 4:13parents. And so I'd
- 4:18always trusted them. So now I don't anymore. I'm not
- 4:22trusting that feeling anymore. And I was
- 4:26confronted with this guilt and this shame over
- 4:32some choices that I had made around my family,
- 4:37my wife, and going through divorce.
- 4:41And I found myself in a city in the middle
- 4:45of the country where.
- 4:50There was a church and a pastor who
- 4:56was familiar with my father.
- 5:01Oh, yeah. So you know exactly what I did.
- 5:04You could almost write the story. So I went to see this pastor
- 5:10and I gave him the bulk of my story.
- 5:17And I guess the
- 5:21reason I went, I was looking for answers in
- 5:24the places that I'd always sought answers.
- 5:28And for me, that always been God
- 5:32and the church that I grew up in. But here's the problem
- 5:36that I, I didn't calculate
- 5:41was I had moved away from trusting
- 5:45that church. And as I said in
- 5:49a previous podcast, you know, my father really represented God
- 5:54to me because he was not only my dad, but he was also
- 6:00the figurehead of who God was to me.
- 6:04And that's much like what many people experience.
- 6:08It's not unusual. So I went to
- 6:12see this guy and oh
- 6:17my gosh, when he got done with me and
- 6:23I walked out of that building and I got into my car,
- 6:27I can tell you I was more lost than
- 6:32when I had walked in. I had been beat
- 6:36up, I had been judged, and I
- 6:41was required to confess
- 6:46my wrongdoings and beg God
- 6:50to forgive me.
- 6:53Now, for a lot of people, you, you may be confronting what I
- 6:58just said and say, well, that's Paul. You know,
- 7:01that's kind of what the Bible says.
- 7:05I don't disagree with that statement.
- 7:09I disagree with the methodology.
- 7:14Because when Jesus in
- 7:18the Word reached
- 7:22out to the adulterous woman at the well,
- 7:26you know, what did he offer her in
- 7:31life? He didn't offer her judgment.
- 7:35He already knew.
- 7:38He already knew her and he offered
- 7:43her freedom. Well, I'm going to tell you, that day, I didn't
- 7:46get offered freedom, Okay? I was offered
- 7:52what I would call a form of control legalism.
- 7:58I was judged harshly by this man.
- 8:04And to be truthful, I was more confused
- 8:08about now what I'm feeling than ever before.
- 8:14Totally confused.
- 8:17And so I'm in this. I'm in this flux
- 8:21of, okay, I gotta find some answers. I gotta find some answers.
- 8:25I. I've gotta find somebody somewhere that
- 8:30will listen to me. And I
- 8:36met this lady at a employment
- 8:41agency in. I was actually
- 8:45doing. They hired me to do temp work. You know,
- 8:49they'd send you out on temp job. And I did a bunch of temp jobs
- 8:52for them. I learned it's a great way to fill your days and
- 8:55make money while you try to figure out what it is you're going to become
- 8:59when you grow up. But I found
- 9:04immediately somebody that I
- 9:08had a heart connection to. I mean, and the day I
- 9:12was in there, this lady, she was a salesperson for this
- 9:16company. She came out into the lobby, she sat down with me and
- 9:21her Empathy and her care.
- 9:25She sensed in my spirit the
- 9:30angst that I was in. And she
- 9:35met me where I was. Yeah, I was like this
- 9:39lost little puppy that she's rescuing from the cold.
- 9:45And honestly,
- 9:49she literally invited me into
- 9:53her world. And I
- 9:57found a safe place to
- 10:04verbalize all the things that I was going
- 10:08through and experiencing. And it was met with
- 10:11love and compassion, not with judgment
- 10:16and harshness. And at that moment,
- 10:20I realized there are other people in this world who are
- 10:26thinking and feeling what I've been thinking and feeling,
- 10:31and I'm finding common ground.
- 10:35And so she became a real anchor for
- 10:39me. And honestly,
- 10:44it hadn't been for her, I would have not gotten. I wouldn't have gotten through
- 10:49those days and weeks and months to come and
- 10:54discovering what
- 10:58my heart was really.
- 11:02So our hearts, they don't speak in
- 11:06words. They speak in alignment.
- 11:12And that's exactly what I began to find was
- 11:15alignment. Okay,
- 11:22I want to say some things about the heart and
- 11:26the mind right here, because these are some
- 11:30of the things that I experienced. My mind was
- 11:35afraid, but my
- 11:39heart knew what was true. My mind was afraid.
- 11:43I was fearful, I was panicked. I was running,
- 11:47I was searching. But my heart knew what was true.
- 11:52I just had to find a place where it was safe to
- 11:59open up my heart and to
- 12:03learn how to live from it. My mind has
- 12:07logic, okay? There's a logical process.
- 12:13I was born into a logical process.
- 12:17Didn't mean it was right, but it was the process. I was raised
- 12:21with 200,000 hours of parenting tapes,
- 12:25but my heart is going to give me direction.
- 12:30So the heart and the mind many times are in
- 12:34conflict, and.
- 12:39And we've got to spend enough time sitting
- 12:43with it until we
- 12:47hear our heart and find the direction
- 12:52that we're supposed to move into. So how do we do
- 12:56that? This is what I did. I learned this from my
- 13:00friend, and she used the word meditation.
- 13:04And I went, freak. That's weird.
- 13:09That's cultish. I mean, that's where I
- 13:13came from. But the reality was that
- 13:19she was saying, just stop the nonsense
- 13:24around you. This is before the
- 13:27Internet, folks. This is before the cell phones, as we
- 13:31know today. I had a brick in those days as a cell phone, and we're
- 13:35talking early on so
- 13:38there weren't the electronic distractions. But she's like,
- 13:43pause and listen. And she said, I want to show
- 13:47you what I do. Every day. She walked
- 13:51me through just pause in her life, and she would
- 13:55journal about what she was hearing.
- 14:00I was blown away, I gotta tell you. I was
- 14:04Absolutely blown away by
- 14:09what she was hearing and how that she spent
- 14:13enough time in silence just to hear her
- 14:17own thought. So she journaled.
- 14:20She. She shared with me days and weeks of
- 14:25journaling her journey and how she got
- 14:29here. And what I learned through this was she had been at the
- 14:33same place many years previous that I had been in
- 14:38this legalistic fundamentalist,
- 14:42Baptist theology of
- 14:47works orientation to lifestyle.
- 14:51The end, um, she had gone through a divorce
- 14:57and she found no place in
- 15:02that culture because that culture
- 15:05is extremely judgmental and shunning, quite frankly.
- 15:11And so she sought out somebody
- 15:15that would care about her and love her and accept her and help
- 15:19her heal. So that's. Her journey was
- 15:24the same as mine. I was just way down the road
- 15:27behind where she had gotten.
- 15:31What she showed me was the, the honest self
- 15:36reflection. Okay, so you're silent, you're journaling,
- 15:40and now you're writing. And what you're writing,
- 15:43it's not really what
- 15:47you write, but that you write that you pour out an
- 15:53honesty on a paper or a page and
- 15:57you reflect on what is hitting that page and
- 16:03you start paying attention to where the energy is.
- 16:07You start paying attention to what excites you,
- 16:11to what motivates you, to what moves you forward,
- 16:16and you start pushing away all the negativity.
- 16:20Because I can tell you that where I came from, there was nothing but negativity,
- 16:24nothing but judgment.
- 16:27I never forget there
- 16:32was a lady that worked in the company I was running,
- 16:37and she came into my office one day. This was before this situation
- 16:42happened. She looked at me and she said, you are so sad.
- 16:47She said, and I can see your brokenness. She said,
- 16:51all the girls from the office are going out to go bowling tonight
- 16:55at a place. Why don't you come with us?
- 16:59It's like, but it's like a girl's thing. She goes,
- 17:02I think you just need us.
- 17:07So, I mean, I went and
- 17:12you know, I was confronted with things that I've
- 17:16never been confronted with in my entire life,
- 17:21but I just sat in it.
- 17:25And I'll never forget the feeling that my heart had
- 17:29at that moment. This is one of the first times that I felt this was
- 17:34a feeling of acceptance and love.
- 17:37Not a judgment for where I was,
- 17:42but just compassion for where I was.
- 17:46I mean, it's like, okay, there are people out here
- 17:51that are just normal people that my
- 17:55peer group would judge for their lifestyle, but yet
- 18:01they're asking me to, to come and they're pouring
- 18:06their love and concern out in a compassionate way
- 18:10for me because I knew I was hurt from a divorce.
- 18:15So here's the signals of your.
- 18:21These are the signals that I got. It took
- 18:24time, folks, I'm going to tell you. It took some hard work and time.
- 18:29But the first signal that I really began to
- 18:34experience was peace, not turn was
- 18:40peace. I can tell you where the turbulent was. You've already heard
- 18:44me kind of speak about it where I came from in my
- 18:48peer group. But there was peace.
- 18:52I found peace. My heart found
- 18:56peace. And then my heart began
- 19:02to pull me in a direction of clarity.
- 19:08And as my heart pulled me into that place,
- 19:12it felt comfortable.
- 19:15It didn't feel like this angst.
- 19:20And I can tell you that the peer group that I came from,
- 19:24that was always angst because I could never live up.
- 19:29But now my heart is signaling peace
- 19:34because I discover that I do
- 19:38have a God who loves me.
- 19:42He's the God of the Bible. I discovered this.
- 19:46He is the one true God.
- 19:50He's the God that has always been,
- 19:54you know, he created us.
- 19:58And as I found truth,
- 20:02I began to see God in a completely different with
- 20:08a completely different heart. So that's that
- 20:12peace began to pull this forward. The clarity began
- 20:16to ease me into a place where I
- 20:20knew who to trust. And that voice, I began to live from that voice.
- 20:25Okay.
- 20:29And at this day it's like, okay, this is
- 20:33where I need to go. This is what I need to.
- 20:36It was drawn clarity and I had to
- 20:41make some decisions. I had to, I had to completely on down the road,
- 20:45never involve myself in that community of
- 20:49legalism again and always guard my
- 20:53life that I would never let
- 20:57it back in. I can tell you I was approached and opportunities came
- 21:01later on. Opportunities came to be in ministry again in
- 21:07not in that quote unquote titled group
- 21:12but in a titled non denominational. But the undertone
- 21:16of the non denomination was the same and
- 21:20I kept myself unencumbered.
- 21:24I kept myself rooted in my heart,
- 21:28anchored to who I
- 21:31trusted. God that I was learning to trust.
- 21:36And there was a guy in our our group
- 21:41some years later and I was in back in ministry working
- 21:45with Sickle Sickle again folks. And he approached
- 21:49me and he said have you read this book Wild at Heart? I said
- 21:54I've never heard of it. He said you need to read it because
- 21:57at the point this was presented to me, I was teaching on
- 22:02Sundays and Lee about 500 single
- 22:06kid people from a completely different heart, from a completely
- 22:11different place. Boy was he right.
- 22:15I trusted what he said and forgot the book.
- 22:20And that's more of the rest of the
- 22:24story as we go forward.
- 22:27Suffice it to say, right at this point in my story,
- 22:34I began to totally and completely understand from
- 22:40the author, John Eldridge, what I had been
- 22:44experiencing for Mike. My transition
- 22:49from living from the control of
- 22:53my parents to living for my heart,
- 22:57guided by my heavenly father.
- 23:01There was a complete difference. John Eldridge wrote
- 23:06that book Wild at Heart, and it literally
- 23:09was the story that I had just
- 23:13gone through.
- 23:17So when you live from that voice and you live from your heart,
- 23:21you know what to trust first and
- 23:26you know how to act before fear shuts
- 23:30it down, you know how to
- 23:35act. This fear is always going to be a driver if you've come from
- 23:39that world, in that place. I hope that
- 23:44something I've said today on this podcast has triggered
- 23:49thoughts about your own life and your own heart.
- 23:53Hopefully to motivate you to learn to
- 23:57go through the process of how to hear your heart again.
- 24:02And if you're ready and you
- 24:06want help, that's part
- 24:10of what I do beyond this podcast, is to
- 24:14help people walk a path that I've
- 24:19walked, that I have literally coached
- 24:24others to do the same.
- 24:28You know, I don't try to get formal about my coaching,
- 24:32really try to listen to you, because listening
- 24:36is 80% of learning.
- 24:40So if this is really stirred

- 25:01close the show. I hope I have
- 25:06spawned something because next episode we're going to talk about the mask
- 25:10that we wear and why we hide behind them.
- 25:16That's a tough one.
- 25:20All right. Yes. Have a great blessed day. Day.
- 25:23It's Bless Paul. I'll see you again soon.
- 25:31If today's episode stirred something in you.
- 25:35That'S your heart speaking. If you're ready to go
- 25:39deeper into this work, let me invite you to come
- 25:42and join me in my live from your heart coaching experience.
- 25:47It's a six month journey. I can take you back
- 25:52to the. Truth, help you learn your
- 25:56real identity and uncover that
- 26:00emotional freedom that's yours to have. If you'd

- 26:08from your heart, you'll find the link down in
